Iā€™ve seen a bit of a troubling trend going around of things being said likeĀ ā€œCallaghan did nothing wrongā€ orĀ ā€œhe was just doing risky things to save his daughter orĀ ā€œwhat if he didnā€™t start the fireā€ or something along those lines.Ā  Come on, guys. Apart from the fact that he stole someoneā€™s tech, nearly crushed the gang under flying debris in the car chase, left them to drown when they crashed into the bay, nearly crushed them again in their next encounter at Akuma Island, and destroying public property with the new Krei Tech building, he literally caused a fourteen-year-old boy to live the rest of his life without a brother, did emotional and physical damage to him, and brushed Tadashiā€™s death off like it was his mistake. Thereā€™s literally no way to play apologist to his actions considering he himself did harm to other peopleā€™s lives. Iā€™m not saying you canā€™t like Callaghan. Iā€™m just saying that if youā€™re going to like a villain, donā€™t have your blinders on when it comes to the wrong things they did. Acknowledge that a wrongdoing is a wrongdoing and thereā€™s no way around that.
So I have a pretty love/hate relationship with Callaghan and Iā€™m gonna share a little bit of why that is, because I see this same trend of displacing blame from him all the time and itā€™s actually genuinely upsetting.
Letā€™s start with the fact that I really loved this movie because two years ago a family member of mine was murdered.
And Iā€™m not going to lie to you; particularly in westernized culture, getting to grieve and not be okay for more than a standardized set of time is actually pretty goddamn taboo, so seeing a movie that embraced grief as itā€™s centralized theme, showed someone going through the many, many emotions of it, from sadness to numb to flat out rage without being told by someone ā€œyou have to truck onā€ or ā€œtime heals everythingā€ was the most cathartic, wonderful thing to me.
And Callaghan is meant to be a sympathetic villain; itā€™s utterly clear in the way he sets an almost consistent parallel to Hiro, in the fact that, before the rest of the gang stop him from committing murder himself, heā€™s very much on the path to being Callaghan, himself. Both of them, up till the point where Hiro sees the videos Tadashi left behind, are blinded by the concept of revenge; on an eye for an eye.
Now I want to remind you all that the biggest difference between them is that Callaghan literally set a fourteen year old on this path. And when confronted (ā€He was trying to save youā€) he does not respond with a wit of remorse, but rather, self justified anger- ā€œThat was his mistake!ā€
I totally understand Callaghan, I do. Because if I feel like I relate to Hiro then on some level I have to relate to the professor, as well.
Because when someone you loved is ripped away from you by someone else thereā€™s a piece inside you that changes. And people like to compare loss- compare this, to a hole; Iā€™m not. I donā€™t.
Itā€™s a stain. Itā€™s a thick, black stain somewhere on your soul that you carry for the rest of your life. Because someone you love isnā€™t only gone, theyā€™re gone because of someone elseā€™s actions. You donā€™t. Recover. From that.
And itā€™s utterly bewildering as a victim to deal with that, because sometimes all you want to do is tell that person you understand and sometimes all you want to do is cause them every SINGLE piece of pain and fear your loved one must have felt before they died.
Professor Callaghan is a man completely and utterly blinded by grief and I have no doubt in my mind that no only was he aware Tadashi died, but he feels no remorse until his own loved one is returned. Until his own happily ever after is ruined by his prior actions. Remorse for himself, remorse that he wonā€™t get to be there for Abligail; not for the things heā€™s done.
And I can understand wanting to give him reason and excuses because good lord is he a good, intelligent man. Heā€™s amazing. And I love fostering the characterization that he had in the movies in my own writings, where he can be the mentor and almost father to a young man who hasnā€™t had one, because heā€™s been too busy being one, instead.
But the next time you want to say he did something wrong Iā€™m gonna ask yā€™all to do something for me. Because this is a pretty creative, inspiring fandom, and Iā€™m sure you can all appreciate looking at this from a new angle.
Next time, I want you to close your eyes, and say out loud ā€œCallaghan did nothing wrongā€
And imagine that youā€™re saying it to Hiro.
Get back to me on how justified the sentence feels afterwards.

Hey so I only really got into the Sonic World last year and I can't actually play the games so all I've seen are gameplays and video resumes
But if my opinion is worth anything, I have a love-hate relantioship with Frontiers. I agree with what you said.
I can see what they were trying to do with the characters, and it could worked if only it didn't seem so forced. It genuely makes it look like Sega is trying way too hard to tell the fans they're "right" about the characters even though half of the hate/critism they get can be quite exaggerated sometimes imo. I get that Tails' character was inconsistent at times, Knuckles keeps toeing in between being part of the main cast to a background character with the old excuse "he has to watch the M.E" and that Amy's obsession with Sonic was a bit much and overtook her character sometimes. But honestly, Frontiers could have had the opportunity to fix all of these issues by having the characters *doing* rather than *saying*. Like you said, most of their lines sound more like fans/haters' complaints. So all the time that was wasted with the characters venting about themselves could have been used with them acting up already rather than waiting to be rescued until the Final Horizon updates. For example, instead of Tails venting about how he feels like a burden, he could've shown how he's never been a burden from the start. Instead of going on a journey just because he doesn't want to be in Sonic's shadow, it could've been about how he simply wants to know more about the world, all the magic and ancient legends about Mobius. Plus, it could have be about how he wants to find more people who were insecure like him and help them believe in themselves. (which is one of the best main points in his character imo)
The same goes for Knuckles and Amy. Knuckles has left the island and proven being the guardian of the M.E is not all his character is about. And Amy has proven there's more to her than just being in love with Sonic and she has never been a "dansel in distress", she always helped out in her own way. I get there are some things that need to be more consistent and "fixed" in their characters, but Frontiers seems to push them down way more than they needed to. Actions will always be stronger than words.
I know I'm just rambling at this point and I probably shouldn't have much right to speak about this since I haven't been in the Sonic world since it all started, so sorry if I said anything innacurate. But I just felt like sharing my thoughts on this lol
Out of Sonic's three friends in Frontiers, Knuckles was the only one handled fairly well in the base game of Frontiers. Besides his arc making no sense (he's left his island before lol) his characterization was solid in my opinion.
Meanwhile Tails is a puppet used to vent grivances against his character from the 2010s (even though ironically he does more in Forces than in base game Frontiers. Why is Tails saying this? He wouldn't say this, someone who is criticizing his character would say this)
Tumblr media
and Amy got the life sucked out of her. She's boring at best and toxic at worst (I seriously hate the moment when she guilt trips Sonic, why did this need to happen. It's especially awful because she's aware of how awful it is being trapped, yet doesn't care about Tails or Sonic's concern for him)
Tumblr media
Idk everyone praises this game as "fixing the characters and putting them back on track" but I don't really see it.

1- yes
2- yes, they are. They were taken by the Black Carriage. (except people don't know about it. Another part of Gnag's plan, since he's keeping a good image) In the AU, people who are taken by the black carriage are to be transformed into fangs still, EXCEPT that Maraly and Sara managed to escape together. However, when they ran away to Glipwood forest and seeked for shelter in the abandoned castle, they were caught by one of the Stone Keepers, that also turned them into objects. (Maraly could be a dagger and Sara a fork? Or do you have a better idea? šŸ¤)
3- Armulyn is another one of the cursed talking objects. A guitar
4-Yes and no. He still holds a grudge agaisnt Artham, but he pretty much believes he's dead. He doesn't he's the beast holding his grandkids captive. Once the curse is broken by the kids' true love, there will definetely be some tension, though.
5-If Esben is the beast, Artham would still be the crazy old man Peet, and would probably try to go to the castle once he found out the Igiby kids were being held captive. You guess what happens next.
Vice-versa, Esben would still be a cloven lost in the Blackwood.
7- Yes, definetely. At some point in the story, when the kids are growing closer to their beastly uncle/father, Nugget goes back after them, and the beast allows him to stay with them, much to Leeli's delight
TWS gang, please, hear me out.
So, I still got wingfeathers in the brain (I'm starting to think I may never get rid of it...) and one of my favorite fairytales has always been Beauty And The Beast.
Since exams week has been draining me, why not come up with another thing to daydream about?
I present you... The-Wingfeather-Saga-Beauty-And- The-Beast AU!
The Jewels And The Beast for short.
Or Jewels and The Cloven.
Or Jewels and The Birdman.
You'll see.... Just bear with me.
I'm debating in whetever Esben or Artham should be the "beast". In one hand, it would make sense for it to be Esben since he's all bear-like but I would also like it to be Artham since we have more information about him and what he's like. But either way, the "Beauty" is none other than our favorite jewels, Janner, Kalmar and Leeli.
Here's the idea: so, the kids still live with Podo and Nia in Glipwood. However, in the Glipwood forest, there's an abandoned castle. (Bonus points if Artham is the "beast" cause then it could be Peet's castle only bigger and creepier) Podo goes on a trip for whatever reason, and ends up being taken by the oh-so-horrible beast of Glipwood. Danny, the horse, comes back to the Igiby cottage where Nia and the kids get nerve struck when they find the horse without its rider. Nia leaves to get help to find Podo leaving the kids alone, and one thing leads to another, they decided to go to the forest by themselves to rescue their grandpa because main characters moment. There, they meet the "beast", and bargain to stay as prisioners in Podo's place. Podo obviously tries to fight, but ends up having to flee, leaving the kids as captives in the castle.
The "talking objects" are the Glipwooders, plus a few other characters from other regions. We got Oskar, who's a book, (are you surprised) and basically takes the role of Cogsworth. We also got Addie and Joe, Maraly, Sara, Thron, Rudric and others. (No, I haven't thought of what objects they would all be, sorry. You can suggest in the comments tho!) As the story goes by, it focuses mainly on the kids bonding with either beast! Esben or beast! Artham, and teaching about kindness and stuff. The "rose" would be a set of three actual jewels, that may or may not represent the kids themselves. Meanwhile Gnag, will be the one to take the role as Gaston. Unlike the TWS, Gnag will play to be the good guy and the whole town loves him, (like Gaston and the villagers) so when Nia and Podo announce that the kids have been captured by a beast, he will try to play the hero and claiming he will "rescue them". However, what Niaz Podo and the Glipwooders don't know, is that Gnag is the one who helped to turn Esben or Artham into a beast in the first place, with the help of the Stone Keepers (who take the role of the Enchantress). Gnag knows the Janner, Tink and Leeli are the Jewels Of Anniera, and has only been waiting for the right moment to strike, to capture them and begin his plan on taking over Skree, the Hollows, and the lost Shining Isle, which everyone believes to only be a legend.
Anyways that's all I got for now.
Maybe I'll write a small fic or something on that in the future...
Maybe.
Thank you for reading my rambling!

Gammon would be one of the only people that doesn't trust nor worship Gnag, he would be suspicious if he really plans to "save" the kids. The fangs wouldn't exist at the beggining, at least not on the audience's knowledge. Remember Gnag is trying to keep the "good guy" facade. The fangs would only really be revealed at the end, after the beast lets the kids go back to the village and they claim the beast isn't evil while everyone else thinks they've been brainwashed and turn into a mob going to the castle. I'm thinking said mob could be the citizens that were already turned to fangs, since it's been showed to us that unlike the Hollowsfolk, the Glipwooders were too scared to fight. So during the final battle scene in the castle, it would be the Gnag and the Fangs VS Esben/Artham and the cursed objects. Meanwhile the Janner, Kal and Leeli are working to get out of the carriage they've locked them, Podo and Nia inside, and despite Podo's and Nia's warnings, they go to the middle of the battle in the castle anyway.
TWS gang, please, hear me out.

Yes, they would still be beariah and hawkish. I think it would be more fun
Especially in the scene where the kiddos break the rule about not going to the West Wing... Just imagine a bear person roaring at you or a hawk person going "KEE-AHH". I wouldn't blame them for running away in fear into the snow.

Unlike in TWS, Gnag will pretend to be the good guy and the whole town loves him, (like Gaston and the villagers) so when Nia and Podo announce that the kids have been captured by a beast, he will try to play the hero and claiming he will "rescue them". However, what Nia Podo and the Glipwooders don't know, is that Gnag is the one who helped to turn Esben or Artham into a beast in the first place, along with the Stone Keepers (who take the role of the Enchantress). Gnag knows that Janner, Tink and Leeli are the Jewels Of Anniera, and has only been waiting for the right moment to strike, to capture them and begin his plan on taking over Skree, the Hollows, and the lost Shining Isle, which everyone believes to only be a legend.
Anyways that's all I got for now.
Maybe I'll write a small fic or something on that in the future...
Maybe.
Thank you for reading my rambling!

Tails and Rouge AU
Just a small AU concept I came up with where instead of Tails meeting Sonic he met Rouge instead and taught him how to be a Jewel Thief along side her
Main points in this AU Is:
- Tails is still very smart and ofc mechanic/tech savvy but in this case makes gadgets/accessories that aid both him in Rouge in their heists
- Rouge would still have her affinity for gems and know hot spots for them, but Tails would love gems with any kind of powerful ability or energy that heā€™d could turn into a sort of weapon or other gadget
-Rouge would still tease Knuckles, whilst Tails would be a playful/sassy brat towards Sonic anytime they meet and sometimes try to convince him out of Jewel Thievery, ofc failing each time

TWS fans, I got a genuine lore question I hope one of you can answer
*******SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE BOOK 1******
okok, so we know the Jewels Of Anniera are the three first born children of the king, the Throne Warden, the High King/Queen and the Song Maiden/Master. But I think I've red *somewhere* that the jewels were originally actual jewels... If i'm not wrong, it was something about an emerald, an amethyst and a third one that I forgot. It said something about how they represet wisdom, strenght and beauty or something. I *think* it might have been on one of the extra Wingfeather Saga books, though I'm not sure if it's on The Wingfeather Tales. Can anyone explain this to me?
