The phone rang and I looked up from my book. Jack grabbed it and I could hear his head thump against the wall as he got called in. Laughing to myself, I tried to hide behind my book. Jack hung up and walked back into the living room.
“that was…” Jack said, a smile breaking out as he saw me looking at him from over the top of my book. “You know who that was.” He laughed. I nodded and lowered my book. “Sometimes I wonder if you can read minds you know that.” Jack sat down next to me and put his arm around my shoulder.
“The head against the wall kind of gives it away.” I teased, leaning into Jack. He nodded, kissing my head. “Another long night?”
“who knows.” Jack sighed, leaning back against the couch. “Some meeting with the president. I actually might be home at a reasonable hour.” I laughed and turned to look at him.
“sure Jack.” I smiled at him. “Sure.” Jack rolled his eyes. “Every time the president gets involved with the CTU, something goes to shit. You get fucked over and it all falls apart.” Jack laughed.
“you’re not wrong but I still have to go.” I mock pouted at him. “Tell you what, I’ll sit in the back and not get involved. I’ll keep my mouth shut and let Tony take the fall this time. And if someone volunteers me, I’ll offer someone else up as bait.” Leaning my head on his shoulder, I nodded.
“that sounds like a good plan.” I admitted. “But you have to stick to it.” Jack nodded and held up his pinky. I giggled and hooked mine around his.
“pinky promise.” He said, kissing me quickly. He pulled away. Jacks eyes scanned over my face before he cupped my cheeks and drew me back in. I put my hands on his chest and curled my fingers around the fabric of his shirt.
“Jack.” I breathed out, gently pushing his chest. “You have to go.” He hummed in acknowledgement as he kept kissing me. “Jack. They’ll send someone.” Jack groaned as I pulled back fully. He let his head fall on my shoulder and I ran my fingers through his hair. “I know. But I’ll be here when you get back.” Jack sighed before pulling away and standing up.
“I’ll be back as soon as I can.” He promised. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” I said, waving as he walked towards the door. He blew me a kiss before he headed out of the apartment and I smiled like an idiot as I watched him.
