this is not meant to sound presumptive or belittling or anything like that, but if you feel like you can't handle duncan, or that maccready will be very negatively affected by duncan to the point he couldn't handle it, there's nothing wrong or bad about giving him to a home that can handle him. kittens are not for everyone, and you're not failing at anything by not being able to give him the best care he could get, especially if it's interfering with your other cats' care

i appreciate that so many of you are so, so understanding about this all. i'm not anti-rehoming. I've done it before and if need be I'll do it again. I'm not going to rush into any decisions either though.

I always get stressed during the adjustment period of bringing home a new pet. I usually cry at least once. I claimed so many of my pets were mistakes (even Chloe) during the adjustment period.

And as far as Maccready is concerned that can also be chopped up to me being stressed. Sure, he hates the baby, but he's fine. I do this thing where every time I'm stressed I convince myself one of my pets is dying. I'm well aware I do this, but until I bring them in to the clinic and Doc points it out I'm fully convinced my pet is dying.

So yes, if it ends up not being a good fit I'll rehome. I probably shouldn't get on here and vent post about "oh my god Duncan is evil, Maccready is dying" without first taking a step back and acknowledging that the biggest problem in this scenario is my own stress

#sorry im so long winded #also for anyone wondering i've rehomed animals twice #both times were dogs that were surrendered to the clinic and i was convinced i was going to be their forever home #ive since learned my lesson. im not cut out for owning dogs #maybe someday but definitely not now #ask #duncan

I have spent the last month absolutely plagued by demons (ADHD impulses telling me to just go and adopt a dog even though it's not a good idea with my current living situation) and today I finally submitted an application to volunteer as a dog walker with the local humane society instead. Everybody say good job vyvansebaby

#in college i told myself i would get a dog as soon as i graduated #but then i figured it was a bad idea to have to deal with a new dog in addition to the stress of starting law school #so i decided to wait another year #now here we are #and i am not good at self denial on my best days #and this is something ive been denying myself for NEARLY SIX YEARS #so you can imagine how much i am struggling #BUT #i will not bring a dog into an unsuitable living situation :(#i absolutely will not put myself in a position where i have to surrender a dog #and right now my apartment is just too small #and i dont have a yard #and also. perhaps most importantly #my roommate's cat is an evil violent high-anxiety ASSHOLE #and it would not be fair to either the cat OR the dog to force the two of them to coexist #SO I AM PUSHING MY SELF DISCIPLINE TO THE LIMITS #and doing some good volunteer work in the meantime 🙂
