Andrew: adidas and that’s the ONLY one. he’s got the whole collection in black
Kevin: dawg is SUCH a nerd when it comes to athletic clothing (and i appreciate that). despite his organized tendencies, he buys each individual item based on its performance instead of looks. he’ll get long distance running shoes from hoka, shirts from Nike, socks from under armour, etc because that’s what fits his performance needs. he definitely gets lululemon shorts when he goes pro
Matt: NEW BALANCE!!!! he gets the retro looking shorts and the dad shoes. (he’s training for the future by breaking those shoes in)

Dan: she’s a champion girlie. she rocks the sweatpants and top/biker short sets like NO OTHER!!! the sets are good for running, lifting, biking, and look good with pullovers/sweat pants. Dan also probably wears adidas, especially their shoes. outside of athletic brands, she definitely only wears short socks
Allison: she wears lululemon exclusively. she’s got the shorts, swiftly techs, and pullovers in every color. she wears the brightest colors the most. Allison pulls it off and looks VERY intimidating in the bright colors cause it makes her stand out EVEN MORE
Jean: dawg is an under armour guy PERIOD. NO ARGUMENTS. i can’t explain this one exactly but i feel it in my bones. he’s just an under armour guy, okay??? he loves their compression tights and sleeves.

So I have mentioned before how I think Israel has no strategy in Gaza, and for helping me understand that Andrew Fox has been one of the better sources. He is a little sus, don't have him be your only source, but he has a lot of direct contact with the IDF and gets some of their thinking across very clearly.
He thinks positively of this approach (lol) but in the above thread he addresses one of the big mysteries - why is the IDF fighting on the same ground on loop over and over? And he points out that the IDF is committed to doing no nation building at all:
The answer is simple: the IDF have absolutely no intention of using the clear / hold / build counterinsurgency tactics the West tried in Afghanistan. Why would they? Those tactics were a disaster in Afghanistan.
I'm setting aside the strategic incoherence because tbh its too self-evident. Instead I want to mention a post I made before - America invaded two countries in the War on Terror! Why is only one mentioned here? Yes, Afghanistan was a disaster of nation building - but Iraq is only *perceived* as such. As a country today, it's fine! It's fine. It's fiiiine. Far from perfect, but its functioning and not invading its neighbors.
As I say in that post, that doesn't make the War in Iraq a success, first because lol and second because our goal was not 'have Iraq be chill'. But that is - on paper - a pretty good goal for the IDF to have! They do not care how well-functioning whatever government is there; they certainly don't care about the quality of life or anything in Gaza. For their purposes, the lesson of the US in Iraq is quite positive, expensive yes but pulling that out would be a huge win for them. They have a different goal. So its really a question of "is Gaza more like Iraq or Afghanistan" and honestly that is a no-brainer, its like Iraq way more, from culture to geography to governance traditions.
Now, I don't think this is driving IDF or Israeli decision-making or anything, they have other reasons for being staunch anti-occupation (incompetence being a big one!). But you definitely see it in wider discourse; the idea that COIN/nation-building was discredited by the War on Terror. It shouldn't be, dinged yes but discarded not at all. And its a good illustration of the dangers of essentialism - because the Iraq War was a gigantic mistake, people have a very strong temptation to regard every possible component as a mistake. Reality just isn't that clean, some of the COIN stuff was pretty decent and also for every force that makes war beget war, there are other forces exhausting it and bringing in peace and they win just as often. Its the damage myths can do.

BOOKS
We Will Devour The Night by Camilla Andrew. The version I read is available in the author's ko-fi (aninkwellofnectar), and the final version will come during fall of this year. I've talked about this saga before (The Essence of the Equinox), and I still recommend it to those of us who like complex characters (especially female characters), gothic horror, and lush prose. This is a sequel, and I like it even more than the first instalment. It gets deeper into the darkness of the world and it's an amazing read. The third and final part has started been posted on ko-fi as well, for anyone interested.
Why Does He Do That? Inside The Minds of Angry and Controlling Men by Lundy Bancroft. I wish I could make everyone read this book. It wouldn't fix everything, because it runs against a lot of people's deep-seated belief systems, but maybe it would make SOME of them start second-guessing those beliefs... Anyway. A MUST read in terms of abuse and intimate partner violence.
Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. I read the book for the first time about 15 years ago, and only reread it now. I loved it even more than the first time. The atmosphere, the revenge tale, the love story between Catherine and Heathcliff, all the ways these families' lives affect the others, how you have to parse through Nelly's account of events... I still wish I could hit Lockwood in the head with a stick lol. Just once. Not even too hard! But hit him in the head, I would xD
COMICS
Batman: Huntress/Spoiler - Blunt Trauma. One of those "it could've been so good if it was good" comics. It would've had to NOT been written by Dixon, of course. His ideas about these two characters are palpable here. He's met real women and girls, I know this, but he's completely failed to take anything from these meetings into account to understand them as people. And boy, does it show in his writing.
Green Lantern: Willworld. I've had this comic in my list for aeons and I moved it up when I found out its author would be writing Jason's upcoming ADITF "what if" story starting July. I really liked this one, and how it showcased Hal's character. It's not a guarantee I'll like his Robin Lives run, because comic writers have biases and blind spots and huge gaps in their knowlege regarding certain characters, but "he seems to be a good writer" is already a huuuuge leg up compared to most modern Jason content lol.
JLA: World Without Grown-ups. This was interesting because I've watched the Young Justice (cartoon) version of this premise, which is VERY different, from the villains to their goals to the handling of the crisis (since the cartoon had an established teen team), down to the emotional beats (the Zataras). They're too different to be compared, tbh. This one was quite fun though, and it made me feel very fond of Bart. Also Tim's parasocial relationship with Jason's memorial made an appearance LOL.
Colin Wilke's appearances. I am MOURNING this kid. He has like 9 appearances (and a couple of them are barely a few pages) but each one is gold. Bring him back. Make HIM Damian's best friend. Integrate him in the storyline!! His character and his dynamic with Damian had so so much potential. I am definitely going to include him in my fics.
Batman: Li'l Gotham. (plus the two stories introducing it in Batman Annual #27 and 'Tec Annual #11). A couple of things conspired (including me finding out there's a version of Colin in this lol) and I ended up reading it while I was sick. It's mostly fun fluff (as opposed to just corny fluff) and a quick read without much meat in it, but a few things nudged the inspiration muscle and Dustin Nguyen's art is adorable.
Batman Tales: Once Upon a Crime. I liked this one more than the above! It follows in that universe (a Gotham where everything is smaller and cuter lol), mixing it with some fairy tale vibes. Pinocchio!Damian is A Concept. Although my favourite story was "The Snow Queen", with Mister Freeze. The art goes into a whole other level in all of these, but especially that one.
Batman: The Chalice. Bruce Wayne receives the Holy Grail. I read this one in my list of Talia appearances and hers is the part that interested me: Ra's wants the Grail to make her immortal, like him, and Talia tells him that she has no desire to live forever. Her words are "Having lived my life in your company, the prospect of eernal life is not the attraction for me it might be for another." There are A LOT of things you can read into that sentence, and one of them, to me, is the idea that death to Talia would be an escape from Ra's, which is... interesting. Sidenote: this one was written by Dixon, who once in a while gets his wired crossed and is not wholly terrible with female characters xD
Ghost/Batgirl. I hadn't heard of Ghost before but I'm kinda curious after reading this mini run. I found a lot of the concepts it worked on (resurrection, mind control, etc.) quite interesting, although I ended up feeling the execution didn't delve too deeply into them. It's an story I might want to reread and pick apart at some point, though.
JLA: Tower of Babel. Yeah, THAT arc lol (also part of my Talia-reading). I also read JLA Secret Files and Origins #3 (in May, though), which shows Talia's whole thoughts on it as she steals the plans + some of the consequences the whole thing has for the other bats whose teammates no longer trust them (Dick, Tim, Barbara) + the wording of Bruce's contingency plans (which btw includes acceptance of lethal methods against Clark lol)... he certainly got off easy after this añsdlkfjasdf. Honestly, imo, the most selfish, cowardly thing he did was walking out before the JLA could tell him they'd voted him out. I know he and the comics probably won't frame it like that afterwards, but that's how it felt to me. The very least he could've done is face his teammates.

I really wish that Sydney sweeny was black cat cause i think her and tom Holland would have great chemistry. I mean I liked zendaya but its time for a new love interest for Peter parker and felicia hardy is perfect for him. Either way I hope tom returns as spider man. Especially when I KNOW they weren't saying this with Andrew and Emma's Peter and Gwen love story. 😒
Second, if there's any villain that I think Sony is possibly looking to introduce into the Spiderman universe, it's more than likely Venom. 👀 They even hinted at Tom Hardy's Venom character possibly crossing over and being introduced into Tom's spidey at the end credit scene of NWH. EVERYONE would like to see a Spiderman/Venom film done correctly. To me, that's the villain that's most anticipated tbh.
But lastly, even if Sony is thinking of introducing Felicia Hardy/Black Cat, I actually would LOVE to see them cast Tati Gabriel in the role. 👀 I know she's not white or blonde, and I know she's worked with Tom before in "Uncharted", but just go with me in this vision here....
Tati is VERY good at playing a convincing villain, while still having a measure of sex appeal, which is definitely needed for the Felicia Hardy character. Not only that, but Tati actually has a martial arts background. 😏
I just don't understand this push for Sydney in this role honestly. 🤷🏾♀️ Is it the blonde hair and the boobs? I don't get it. I mean, she's not the only blonde-haired actress out here lol. 😅 I don't even see this "excellent chemistry" you all THINK Tom would have with Sydney lol. I'm just not seeing it, sorry.
I've joked here on my blog many times before that Tom is a "DAYASexual" lol 😆 🤭 He only has eyes (and chemistry) for Zendaya lol. 👀 🤭
I just haven't seen Tom having all that much chemistry with his other female costars honestly. Sorry. 🤷🏾♀️ And there's nothing about Tom or Sydney's personality that leads me to believe that they would just have the most amaaaaazing chemistry on earth if they ever did a film together.
Honestly? So far, Tom has the best onscreen chemistry with Zendaya. 😊 I liked his scenes with Ciara Bravo, but again, nothing to write home about as far as chemistry goes imo. 🤷🏾♀️ I'm not even gonna talk about the nonexistent chemistry he and Daisy Ridley had on their film CW together lol 🤭
Even Tom and Sofia didn't really have that much chemistry to me in "Uncharted". It's a shame they cut out that little deleted scene though.... they had pretty good chemistry in that scene, not sure why it was taken out.

hwy so i saw ur poll ab arasol and f they were matesprits or not and ive been into homestuck for about 7 years and its a special interest and im autistic and thwy are my first and tbh only otp anf so if this is ok i wld like to infodump my opinion/hcs ab them bc i just 🥰 i love them sm 🥰 (def not frothing at the mouth at the idea of an audience for my opinions bc everyone irl is sikc of me lmao /lh)
ok so i deffo think they ar e matesprits BUT i think they never liie. clearly confirmwd it while aradia was alive. and once she became ghost aradia i think she got so distant and aloof (i think thats the right word?) about everytuing that it made sollux feel like she disnt love him anymore, and he eventually just had to move on, even thouvh it hurt. and feferi was there, not necessarily as a "rebound" but as a shoulder to cry on. someone for sollux to confide in, and to listen to him because he didnt have anyonw else he felt like woild. and i feel like feferi was def nto him and wanted to be his matesprit but i think sollux wasnt really. and i think they developed a kind of mixed/blurred lines relationship and the whole ghost and aradiabot phases pushed him and aradia furhter apart because aradia was dealinf wth so so much and in turn sollux was dealinf with the loss of his presumed (unofficial, wtv) matesprit, because that wasnt the aradia he knew and had fallen in love with. the ghost thing wasnt a bother - he loved her, not her physical form - it was the personality shift, i think.
and so when she reached god tier and regained her body nd her sense of identity, ithink they started to rekindle what they had nefore, if that makes sense? like aradia was his aradia again, an aradia interested in life and adventuee and archaeology and not this stupid, stupid game and suddenly not everything felt like it was collapsing around him and he felt like things could be okay again. and she helped him and he helped her and together they did make thinfs okay again. with each other.
and i think aradia's living>ghost>aradiabot>godtier timeline is a good allegory for depression and how it can absolutely shatter your sense of self and strip your world of colour and how that can make you push people away and self isolate and whatnot. idk thats just how i see it but :3 yea

aradia's depression being the catalyst for their split is very true! especially since she then sort of broke his trust with the whole sgrub thing-- and before that interacting with her was hard because sollux felt so guilty about what he did to her. it's just sad on all accounts, and i'm glad they both got better
honestly my poll was more to ask the question; "so we all agree that aradia and sollux were matesprits right because they do NOT act like moirails lol but it's funny because if they're matesprits that makes the feferi business weirder", but i don't think it came across in the post correctly, pfft
yes i definitely agree that they were matesprits, and also the idea that feferi was more into sollux than he was her is a really interesting one-- i also wonder if maybe feferi was maybe less into sollux than she thought, herself-- it's possible she threw herself into that relationship because she was just so relieved to be finally cut off from eridan and "allowed" to have relationships like that. but that's just my thought!
at the end of the day they're all just kids trying stuff out and it's kind of adorable and not that serious. i'm an arasoler at heart but there's nothing wrong with solfef either

hmm...the conundrum with that is i would like to show it one day so how much to tell...
the thing abt this is julian has ALWAYS been written in andrews life. one of the constants of his story no matter how much he changes. (he used to be named Matty) but ive uh...been a chicken to properly show it because uh its HEAVY.
so hm...i've gone over andrew's family life before so it's not meh to go over it again i think...
that's also mostly stayed the same.
readmore bc...ya boys gonna get long-winded
so andrew has a very strict mother with very high expectations of her children, but especially him. his father is more lax and easy-going, pretty carefree tbh, but bc of this its to a fault where he also just..doesnt want to confront his wife. so things kinda..go out of control in the household as far as...his mom's weird like..competition thing between andrew and his sister
so andrew has a twin sister Alana (anyone remember Jackie? yea) and she's pretty naturally good at whatever she puts her mind to. not that she doesnt bust her ass, but things just? come to her. it's just how it is. and she's very much a daddy's girl which pushes andrew into the role of momma's boy. so then it becomes andrew's dad and alana vs andrew's mom and andrew. except. it's pretty much only andrew's mom pushing this narrative, but she's a very convincing person and is the kinda person to naturally command a room
alana is also a naturally curious person so she likes to pick up hobbies and things and practice them until she's over it or good at it or both. and thus..andrew gets pushed into these things too, to not be outdone
the thing about andrew, though, is that he's got a more particular way that he needs to engage with things to actually pick things up and learn them. first of all, he's a very kinetic learner so just reading or hearing a lecture about it doesn't do anything for him. and unfortunately he doesn't have anyone in his life early on (teachers nor family) who understand this about him. they just think there's something wrong with him or off about him or that he's lazy/doesn't care.
but andrew cares. oh he cares. way too much. and he works. so hard. to try to match with the expectations weighing on him, but it just! doesn't happen! no matter how hard he tries! he can't absorb what he's reading! he can't process what he's hearing! when he DOES get the chance to just get his hands on things and figure things out, he shines
and alana tries to help because despite it all, she cares a lot about him. she tries to show him things or tell him what helped her, but it's just..different. the things that work for her, dont't work for him. and she also can't be with him a lot because she has a lot going on. she has big aspirations and she has lots of friends (more things he struggles with) how did they end up so different u_u
so andrew's daily life is very very stressful. he feels like he's always under watch, under scrutiny, every little thing is being judged, weighed, and measured. and that just makes everything much harder for him. he eventually learns over-time to perform great under pressure but that's because the pressure in his adult-life is nothing like the pressure of his childhood lmao
(and if this is a universe where he's got the necromancy thing goin on, there's THAT whole can of worms too. bc of how looked down on and oo scary necromancy is)
so its like..andrew does have his aspirations, his dreams. he wants to be an astronaut! :) and he maintains some semblance of that goal his whole life. he just likes space! he thinks its neat and would rather just spend all day learning about space than anything he's supposed to be learning. not that it's easier, but he's more motivated lmao
he's a C or low B student (idk how to translate american schooling marks into anything else sorry..american moment) and so he's not doing...too bad, but definitely not enough to his teachers or his parents. and he's "inconsistent" bc go figure sometimes lessons are more to his learning capabilities and he excels so oh no now ppl have Proof He Can Do It why cant he do it All The Time. fantastic.
being so focused on making everyone proud or proving everyone wrong in other cases (yes andrew does operate on a level of spite) has andrew finding little time for himself. especially bc his moms the type to not like uhh idle activities. everythings gotta have a Point of Growth. literally the only reprieve is that his mom works away from home a lot, but she'll definitely call or video-call often to make up for that fact. and andrew's The One she has her eye on. he's Her responsibility to better

anyways so alll of this uh..stuff is to explain: Andrew Doesn't Have Friends LMAO his entire elementary school experience is spent not having time for friends and eventually just not knowing how to Make them bc he had no practice or experience doing so. and the other kids don't think much about him because he doesn't make time for them? they've got other ppl to hang out with. and when a kid does make an attempt he fucks it up somehow or his mom scares them off with the Restrictions for how andrew is allowed to interact with other kids (if andrew wouldnt tell them tho they wouldnt have to know..smh)
by the time he's transitioning to middle school is when he meets julian. julian ALSO does not have friends (gee wonder why (youll see why)) and julian sees andrew not having friends either and thinks well! time to have this loner be MY friend. and julian is a pretty charismatic person when he wants to be. he knows how to small talk and keep conversations going and all that. i say this like a tween julian already has evil intentions but tbh..nah it DOES honestly start off innocent enough. julian has a lot going on at home too and wants someone to be his friend. simple as that. andrew doesnt already have a group, so..easy choice there. should be
the stuff that usually scares ppl away doesnt work on julian because he's a very anti-rules disobedient sort at this point already anyways. he just sees it as a challenge really so even if andrew makes things awkward by parroting his moms rules on how he can interact with other kids based on her paranoias about the typical Child and what they could teach Her Precious Baby it doesnt phase him. he gonna do it anyway
they do have interests in common, turns out! they like some of the same music. some of the same shows/movies. and things like that. the rest of it Becomes shared interests bc julians the type to go "hey i like this. now you will too" and for the most part? their shared tastes go a long way and andrew DOES end up liking most things julian introduces him to
at first julian does kinda..have no choice but to follow the Hard Rules that andrews got for hanging out so..they pretty much only see each other at school, they start picking up writing letters for each other to read only when they get home so they can write a reply and they get kinda lengthy as more topics get added lol
but eventually julian starts convincing andrew to like..shake things up a bit. asks where he lives. turns up at his window. just to chaaat ofc. theyre not gonna get in trouble psh.. its just talking. then it becomes andrew calling julian at home even tho he's not allowed to be on the phone, but if he does it at night then nobody can catch him (or if his moms away bc tbh does his dad rly care..? but andrew assumes he does)
and so julian and andrew get steadily closer and closer that way and andrew is. ecstatic. his first friend! and a really close one! they're best friends! and for julians credit, he's still just thinking "yay i have a friend. someone that makes life suck less :) even if he's a dweeb who i need to teach to live life"
and okay well anything further about them needs content warnings: very unhealthy, toxic relationship talk. manipulation
so unfortunately. julian has a very uhh extreme view on his life. he likes to exaggerate everything (usually for the worst) and jus tlike in general. not just describing it, he actually feels like his life is the worst life anyone could ever have. his parents split up when he was young and now he's being raised by his grandma who is also strict but in a way where its like..shes strict on him but lives kinda like..whatever, herself. shes very do as i say not as i do but julian hangs onto the Example she's putting off and hates her guts for having the Audacity to try to make him do different when she cant even do it herself. he also has an uncle who has his fingers in a lot of very shady pots and so julian is keen to things he rly shouldnt be at a young age
so with all that, he has a tendency to kinda lash out at the world around him. thats sorta his...uh version of coping. and with so many ppl putting him at arms length mostly because of THIS part of his behavior especially, he's only got one person at his side. loyal. always there for him.
unfortunately thats andrew
and it starts small like..playful insults. nothing rly anything at first it could just be the way he shows affection. but then the insults hit parts that sting deeper and deeper. and get more and more personal. and julian starts making almost memes? of some of andrews faults, weaknesses, and insecurities as if that's just one of their Inside Jokes they have, yknow, as best pals. so andrew feels like oh well i have to like this bc its Special and its just for me. i should appreciate that he's doing this. nobody else has this. and he's not being Mean he's just being playful
and unfortunately the more andrew lets him get away with it, the worse julian gets about it. the thing is that nobody's taught andrew self-worth yet. he's been too busy trying to be what other people want him to be. so here he is, also being what julian wants him to be: a punching bag. but he doesnt realize thats what it is. he just thinks julian wants andrew to be the type to be "playfully rude" with but, again, im saying julian goes way past that
and as julian gets older, the more he reserves what used to be how he was with everyone, being him, being genuine in all the worst and best ways, with only andrew. so everyone else gets this very like..agreeable neutral kinda personality out of julian. so then andrew also sees THAT and thinks wow..i really am special
and as years go by and they go from middle school to high school and social situations change around them, andrew feels even more lucky he's gotten somebody special to him and that he's special to because by highschool it feels like everyones already got their cliques and their partners-in-crime and he'd feel like a mega loser without julian. and julians shown him and taught him so many cool things that give him things to actually talk about with other ppl when they Engage with him?
but yeah throughout highschool julian teaches andrew more and more rulebreaking habits. they even set up ways to make money at school w stuff like..selling test answers or snacks or stuff when they can get away with it. or skipping classes or other things. vandalizing things. pranking ppl (harmless :) ofc..but maybe only physically so)
so we return to julian's uncle. liek i said he's a shady dude. well. he starts involving an older julian in his shady shit. so now julian and andrew are peddling fkn weed and prescription drugs around their school and neighborhood. eventually they're hotwiring vehicles to steal. (kinda uhh tragically this is actually where andrew figures out he's pretty good at cars and likes them a lot and even if he's having a constant crisis about Being Awful, he's also uhhh more motivated to learn how to do a new thing and Be Good At It. bc that's the thing isnt it? he's finally Good At Something) and stealing other things too
and i kinda quickened the pace here but its like..well it does escalate pretty quickly because at some point julian has andrew wrapped around his little finger and tho there are the times one or both of them get caught and andrew gets in trouble, has a crisis, and swears off doing anything like that ever again!! julian just has to warm andrew up to it again. because by highschool julian also has the upper hand in that he's become andrew's gay awakening. so now andrew has a huge crush on him and especially wants to impress him and keep him around and notice him and find him cool and worthwhile
and at first julian is sorta confused?? but diversity win! the manipulative toxic asshole best friend is also into boys! but giving andrew everything he wants wouldnt be very fun would it? he has something to dangle over his head. and he's gotten to the point where this is high risk shit. andrew could very much change his mind about everything about them and leave julian and the longer time goes on, the more paranoid julian becomes of this very thing happening. so he holds onto whatever leashes he can get twisted around andrew
he'll entertain his attraction but never clarifies anything. never gives him like..bold affection. never makes it clear how he feels or if he's even completely fine with it? which adds pressure onto andrew that he's just making all this up. or he's being the weirdo, pushing something on julian who might be straight or something
outside of julian tho, andrew's family is noticing his behavior bc i mean..also hes obviously getting caught doing some of this stuff. and his grades are even worse. and sometimes they get calls abt him missing school? and they try to intervene bc like..andrews got One friend. its gotta be this guy. so they try to ground andrew, ban julian, all kinds of stuff but they're slippery and they've got all sorts of workarounds. and ultimately, they still go to the same school. and..sadly. this, at first, just makes andrew desperate to keep julian all the more bc now he's beome this like..symbol of freedom and having Fun and living life to the fullest and anything related to home starts being associated with prison, suffocation, snuffing out his personality and everything he's learned about himself and like..even if he doesnt rly has Friends outside of julian (he's convinced julian is the only friend he rly wants/needs) he's still seen as cool! the Bad Boy, the Hookup for cool shit (snacks, drugs etc) he's a hit sometimes with the Le Popular Kids ooo... and he might even get invited to get-togethers with julian (julian is actually the introvert to andrews extravert but he Humors ppl for the image and he likes the way andrew always looks at him like a lost puppy when he's trying to figure out what to say in convos with other ppl)
but overtime, julians just gotten too comfortable with being too rough with andrews mentality and his emotions. bc he's never stopped his absolute drilling into andrews squishy parts in order to make himself feel better. or somehow blaming andrew for everything, even julians own shortcomings. and playing hot n cold with andrews emotions and etc. like there's just a lot he does that keeps andrew eternally unsure of where he's standing with julian or if he's doing things Correct or in a way that makes julian Happy. and as andrew gets older and starts Understanding things, he starts Understanding that hey...there's actually a lot about this that he doesnt like. he starts trying to...ask julian to lighten up. to consider his feelings on things. that he wants to do..things he wants to do? why do they always do things julian wants to do. why do they always get into what julian likes but never what andrew likes.
julian is...surprised and he does not Like this change. doesnt like that andrew is trying to cause problems? in their relationship? like why make this a thing? when its nothing? it was fine before? but the thing about letting andrew meet ppl, gain reasons for ppl to wanna talk to him and know him is that he gets to know how other ppl are and how they feel abt him. and though he hasnt made any other Friends, he's just learning how..Normal ppl are. and how julian with him is Not Normal. and its in a bad way bc andrew feels bad! he feels sick to his stomach sometimes. and nobody gets to him like julian does! and he thought before it was the crush but now he's starting to realize...he doesnt actually feel that way about julian anymore because he's just gotten so...Cruel
well now when andrew gets grounded/banned from julian, he doesn't fight it. he doesn't find the loopholes anymore. he lets things go and just kinda...tries to see how he feels? and he finds he...feels better. there's ways he feels worse, but there's a lot more ways he feels like he can breathe. like he's a person. and he likes it so...he starts to just ween himself off julian. and julian starts to act up more bc he doesnt have his usual ways to Cope and gets in trouble more, being at school Less and that just causes more distance
and julian is finally living with what he was most terrified of. and andrew is willingly? throwing him away? and he cant have that. he's at his wits end and panicking

he holds the fact over his head that if andrew actually does officially cut ties with him, julian will kill himself. that he has no reason to live if he doesn't have andrew. that andrew is his everything and the light of his life, his joy, all that. and he cant't just? leave him like this?
and at first andrews like wait no this is awful dont do that..im sorry and like..tentatively keeps his ties to julian, tries to continue things the wya they were! just uh..different! bc if julian wants andrew to stay then..compromises have to happen okay? and julian says he agrees but catch things getting worse again and andrew in the same boat he was before

but andrew eventually is just...tired. man. he's getting closer to graduating. he really does NOT need this. it's taking such a heavy toll on him bc rly! nothing else terrible in his life ever really went away, this is just an addition. it's not that his mom saw him acting out and thought oh...this is bc im too hard on him, nah, she stays hard. she gets Harder. his moms stern and affectionless and doesnt understand his plights, his sisters always so busy with her life, and his dad is out of touch. and mostly: andrew doesnt want to bother anyone with his problems. its his own fault, after all. its his mess. and he also is terrified of what anyone would think of even..half the things he'd have to admit to get them to understand. or even a fourth tbh
so one day he just..has had enough. julian threatens to tell his parents what he's done, what he's really like even if it brings julian down too. julian plans to be dead anyways after so what does it matter
and andrew just tells him to do it and hangs up
he feels sick to his stomach for days, but also is too fed up to call and apologize or take it back. he flip-flops on both so much he ends up doing nothing at all
and this is where julian is officially out of his life. i call it Schrodinger's Julian at this point bc did he? or didnt he? well what is the truth is he just does not show up again. so andrew is free but..he literally does not know at what cost. and the guilt eats him up alive for the rest of his life as well as all the damage literally going from like 12-13 to 18 with what this shit did to him

this is where some of the stories diverge? umm..he either goes immediately to college or waits. with the college timeline Also diverging to oh he makes it somehow or oh he has to drop out
my default tho is that he does try, but he has to drop out. and makes an absolute mess of himself while he's trying. college parties and nightlife and everything else. sex drugs and rock n roll pretty much. everything he knows about connecting to other people is completely Fucked and so he thinks he's making connections but it's not real. and nothing feels like it did with julian but that should be a good thing? or should it. he misses the old julian and he misses the good parts and he feels like he'll never have that with someone again or that maybe...if he did...they'd do the same thing. maybe its dangerous to be that close to anyone. but oh he wants it. so bad.
and we'll continue with my usual story but uh (cw: drugs/drug-use)
we have to delve a bit into the fact he becomes an addict. because he very much does. with all the escapism he does in college because he's just trucking along without processing a drop of this? no therapy? not even someone to vent to or hold onto? nah man. shits rough. and he loses himself in many kinds of drugs but heroin is his Drug of Choice and also loses himself in other people but in shallow ways. he becomes a party animal but in the worst way and that becomes his "college" is just this whole social scene that he's not even engaging with in a meaningful way bc he's too terrified of earnest closeness with another human being
meanwhile his grades tank and he just...stops going. needless to say he becomes very much a disaster of a human being at the end of this. the thing is tho..its all self-internalized. he doesnt take it out on other ppl or even want to make it other ppls problems. he tries to just come off as this rly fun guy whos up for literally anything. and like yeah ppl who hang w him enough can definitely See Somethings Up but he's literally just like oh its nothing! its fine im fine! bc no if he opens up about anything everyones gonna hate and abandon him
and unfortunately this gets back to his mom and she uh...cuts him off. completely. if he wont get cleaned up. if he wont just...BE better jst DONT be this trainwreck of a son or else. dont associate with her. thinking maybe itd be a shock enough he'd just Get Better? (lmao) but lmao no. and he rly spirals bad after that but luckily his dad and his sister still sneak contact with him, doing what they can? with someone who doesnt wanna make anything anyone elses' problem and insists he's fine everythings. Fine.
what Does finally have him like?? find hope again? and cling to it and start to eventually put his life back on its feet again depends on the story im writing but something eventually always does and he always has the same Sponsor to help him :'3 darius...(his old roommate from when he was a teacher at thornville..remember that guy? yea rewrote him into here in a different way) and idk..things do look up for andrew! it's just...a very much uphill battle and that's kinda usually where i place him in like Current Events in whatever sceneario/story im thinking of is after he's gotten on his feet (shakily but he's there) and he's usually a mechanic (sometimes moonlights as a necromancer for hire as well) and he's Working himself up to trying college again but hes taking his time. and he's got some sort of support circle (darius, ji-hoon, and sometimes others)
ji-hoon he actually meets as one of his roommates in college and it takes a lot of Effort from ji-hoon but he sees andrew struggling and kinda nags his way into his life to help and is usually one of the reasons andrew gets inspired to get better bc ji-hoon is literally everything julian wasnt but like in a good way. he cares, unconditionally about ppl in general but especially andrew because idk they just Click right. and like i said in another post, ji-hoon's family basically adopts andrew as well and they're so affectionate and loving and give lots of affirmations and stuff and andrew probably cries bc he's never felt that much love tbh and then feels like shit abt it bc crying is dumb, but then everyone else cries too (happy tears) and its like oh
idk this is where i start having lot sof tangential thoughts so ill leave it here but uh! yeah! so that's the story of julian and andrew! and the damage it did! and yes! this is true in every iteration of andrew ive ever written! (the julian and childhood family stuff part, not necessarily all the rest that comes after, a lot of that's new)

8. do they have a nickname? who gave it to them? if it's not derived from their real name, what's the story behind it?
so one of elias's old uni friends calls him dixie!! the nickname pipeline was like . his surname is digby -> shorten to digs -> turns to digsy -> turns to dixie.....its really funny to me because elias is quite sarcastic and has a very wry humour + also when we see him get called dixie its through andrews eyes only a little after they met so he still doesnt really like andrew much and therefore andrew knows him as this short grumpy guy who keeps rolling his eyes at him and is a little too cute for his own good. also i need to potentially research what queer stereotypes were like in the 1920s but potentially dixie is also an incredibly gay sounding nickname which . yk. checks out <3
19. are they quick to anger? what sets them off?
elias is pretty blunt and often sarcastic but hes definitely not quick to anger.....i think it would take someone bringing up his family or calling him a fairy (as in the gay slang) or something along those lines. for andrew it would really just be people being rude to/about people he loves; for nora its very similar but with the added stress of being a female mathematician in the 1920s. belittle her and beware tbh

One of the people who submitted the take that Cats 2019 is good (the longer version). I have read some of the comments and would like to respond:
-I have seen the stage show multiple times, both the 1998 proshoot and the 2021 touring show. The stage musical is obviously superior to the movie, and my take did not assert otherwise. However, I felt it was unfair to compare the stage show and the movie, as they are different mediums with different expectations.
-I have never liked the melody used for the stage version of Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer. It's too jerky and hokey and makes the lyrics harder to follow. The movie's melody is a lot smoother and easier to follow for me.
-I have watched the Sideways video explaining why the music in the movie is bad. His points were all true, but ultimately do not detract from my enjoyment of the music on its own. Also, Beautiful Ghosts is not a terrible song. It's not even in my top twenty worst Andrew Lloyd Weber songs.
-Jason Derulo was actually good as Rum Tum Tugger and I will die on this hill. I hope he gets a chance to try it again in the stage version.
-The added material was about what I expected, tbh. Was it handled gracefully? No, but it served its purpose and was ultimately harmless.
-Someone brought up the idea that Bumbalurina was a victim of Macavity's. I know this is a popular theory within the fandom, but as it is not in the actual text of the show, I don't blame the filmmakers for choosing to go in a different direction. This is also true of any other characterization choices--even in stage shows, those are left up to the interpretation of the director and performer.
-I do agree that James Corden and Rebel Wilson were terrible and Jenny Anydots is the one song I cannot defend. However, they're in the movie so briefly that I can happily ignore them.
Obviously, this is all my personal opinion, and I am aware that the very few people are going to agree with me; that's why it's my hot take and not my comfortably agreeable take. I should also note that I saw the movie in theaters while drunk, which greatly added to the experience, and the last movie I had seen was The Lion King 2019, which is definitely so much worse. (But this has gotten long enough so anyone who wants me to explain that will have to ask me about it on my own blog.)

im gonna say though if your take is simply “i just miss when they did more The Science Of and applying real world logic to games” then. yeah honestly fair take/criticism. but this post isnt really about that. its clearly not as sensationizable but yknow im seeing more of that type pop up from other yters

tldr of this is i like his goofy cherrypicked headcanons esp for games without actual deep lore, but i do think its bad when he chooses games like hollow knight or deltarune, games with actual deep lore and stuff to theorize on, and takes his wacky spin on things, as it feels disrespectful

in terms of him as a person? having watched markipliers powerwash pals video with him, he seems like a nice guy. also definitely past any sort of edgy phase

"This is a pattern that plays out a lot in HS, probably unavoidably due to its scale, the size of the cast, and how many plot threads are being handled at once. Sometimes series of brewing events all coalesce and galvanize through some intense, dramatic, single event, as in Descend, [S] Make her pay, or the mother of them all, [S] Cascade. But then those plot points are taken off the burner and put aside on the counter to cool, often for quite some time. This lets the story drift back to the casual, silly stuff, which can be seen as HS kind of gravitationally reverting to its most fundamental nature: ridiculous kids BS'ing with each other about stupid shit. But it was also a necessary thing to do from a creative production standpoint: I couldn't always focus just on the intense stuff and keep relentlessly following through on it while it was piping hot, because that was not a sustainable proposition in terms of effort (a thing the kids at home never really understood, while feeling inclined to grouse about pacing issues). So this gradual "cooling effect" of hot plot points actually became deeply interwoven with the story construction and how that flowed. The hot material is always revisited though—rarely is anything totally dropped—but when it comes back into play it definitely has a different effect for having spent several hundred (or even thousand) pages sitting on the windowsill to cool. That cooled-off material becomes a different kind of ingredient than it once was while it was red-hot, as if the recipe called for it to be set aside to cool, to change its nature, its feel, and the way it tastes. And meanwhile many other exotic ingredients have been prepared. So when the cooled-off ingredient is reintroduced, now it just feels like all the other ingredients coming together to make something new, rather than still feeling like "the most important thing going on," as it once did. So then this amalgamation of new ingredients together with old, previously amalgamated ingredients, forms a new recipe, waiting for its turn to get thrown into the oven so everything can approach another critical galvanization as before. Rinse and repeat, until HS finally and miraculously ends." -Andrew Hussie
i actually enjoy this about the pacing tbh. maybe it was frustrating to some people when the next update wasnt immediately talking about the Big Thing that just happened, but reading it archivally, i actually really like the way it flows.

First things first.
R's pics with Andrew and with T.
Andrew and R: both of them are physically distant from each other. In all the pictures his hand is in his pocket and there's a good distance between them both.
R also isn't leaning into the touch which seems to be recurrent when it comes to T. She's chill but she isn't seeking out his touch. And they've known each other for how long at this point? And also, for the sake of argument, which or her costars does she mention more often/does she have more pictures of her on her IG?/did she said she loved (other than J and T obviously). This is important and I'll go into more detail after you reply.
Second point, I believe that in 99%of pictures T's hand is in a respectful part of her body. A little bit above her waist, her shoulder, I don't think I've even seen a picture of them where he isn't touching her in any way. If there's any pic let me know, please.
In a few pictures they definitely look like an actual couple. Let's be real, how many men will kiss the heads of their female friends who also happen to be in a relationship already? And how many of them will get into hot tubs with them? (This is incredibly intimate, and yet there we have it).
R is constantly seeking his touch, is often close to him, staring up at him and he's not afraid of touching her back which is funny because even at the premire a lot of journalists were talking about how R and J are dating and its not like they kept it a secret. There was no reason that he'd act grouchy just for them to sell the movie and if people need to tell themselves that, well...
Again talking about the interview, it's interesting to see how defensive R got over the kiss. Ir was a genuine question that she should've expected and yet she deflected it completely and talked about J which is well, telling. I said that because it's a mental displacement - meaning: the brought up subject causes a response that makes you uncomfortable because it forces you to deal with a subject you aren't ready to deal with yet and you displace your mental thought to something familiar and comfortable.
Tbh imo it's almost like she's downplaying the kiss, especially with how she says: it was professional (imo I don't think she believes that herself otherwise she wouldn't have worded it that way). She could've straight up answered and said: oh we did this, this and that and agreed upon this, this and that and yet she fumbled and talked about J. I think T might've been disappointed with the use "it was professional " because maybe it was a little more than that for him.
Tbh there are moments in the movie where it seems that isn't Coryo being smitten with Lucy and looking entranced by her, I think it's genuinely just T thinking how pretty she looks, especially in the lake scene

True! She’s doesn’t believe the kiss was entirely professional and T doesn’t think so either which is why he was neutral when she was talking. I found that interesting because he values privacy and professionalism but didn’t nod to anything she said. Very strange.
T was definitely disappointed by the kiss answer and got a little sad so he brought up J and the love notes to deflect too.
Yeah the lake scene where Lucy Gray is talking and leaning on Coryo. A little bit of T came out because he’s always transfixed by R’s singing.

I loved how Andrew wasn’t the bitter ex band member and put their friendship first and fully understood what George Michael was going to be, probably not the full extent of it but the fact George needed to evolve.
It made sense once he said Wham! Was for the youth and there was never going to be Middle Ages Wham! It clicked for me.
My parents were teens of the 80s and my mum had their greatest hits, I have a vivid memory of dancing around to Bad Boys and the woop woops are ingrained in my head!. I have to say almost all my music taste somehow goes back to their album and George but it is only a recent realisation. I hope you are enjoying them!!! Freedom and I’m Your Man are my favs. Though Careless Whisper is making a comeback after what was revealed in the doco 17 and that???? What talent.
Exactly, which I always thought was super-classy and honestly, very mature of him (I honestly think if I was a teen in the 80s I would have had a little bit of a crush on him for it, tbh).
We had the big hits in Canada in the 80s (My Dad was a teen in the 80s and informed me of this), and it's just interesting to think about what was big in different countries. Obviously "Careless Whisper" and "Wake Me Up (Before You Go Go)" were massive everywhere, but I love how the documentary exposed me to songs they never play, even on our more retro/classic rock stations.
My Dad said "Freedom" was a big hit, but I'd never heard it, and I love it. Same with "I'm Your Man." And then even some of their more "naff" stuff, like "Wham Rap" and "Young Guns" just has that super-youthful energy, and shows a surprising amount of maturity in terms of its themes for something written when you're sixteen to seventeen.
Like, even if I had written a song about being unemployed when I was a teen, I don't think I would have had enough sense of character or myself at sixteen to think, "Wham, Bam, I am a man- job or no job, you can't tell me that I'm not." As an overachiever, it definitely took me until my twenties to be comfortable with not being defined by a job or gaining ALL my sense of confidence from what I do. And then Young Guns talking about premature marriage and children, and being locked into marriages you're not necessarily interested in? Like, there's clearly some great stuff there.
Also, their backing vocals are honestly also just clever and make me chuckle. Like, the thought of chanting "D.H.S.S." as your backing vocals ("Department of Housing and Social Services") when talking about being on the dole, and almost as something to toss back in people's faces with such youthful exuberance and a playful destigmatization of being on state support, is funny and clever and all I've been doing since I saw the documentary is just randomly singing out "D.H.S.S." everywhere I go. Same with "Everything She Wants"- the deep bass "GIVE YOU MONEY- WORK, TO GIVE YOU MONEY" has had me dropping my voice for the past week.
In short, they're so much more than the sum of their parts, despite being a self-described "schoolboy" band. I think they're a lot more clever than they give themselves credit for.
(Plus I just realized that in George Michael's solo career, the organ playing the chord progression at the beginning of "Faith" is the exact same melodic chord progression used in "Freedom," and it's just so clever. George really was far more talented than I ever recognized before. Brilliant. <3).

what started ur obsession with spiderman? Mine was the og movies tbh and then TASM like 😍
i love anything spiderman related omg yay.
so i’ve always been into marvel/superhero movies, i watched the toby maguire movies when i was rlly young (which i have very vague memories around) bc my parents loved them and then i watched the TASM movies when when they first came out (i remember convincing my parents to get the DVD’s and rewatching the first one so many times, it’ll always be my favourite). but at that point i wouldn’t say i was ‘obsessed’ yet, i just rlly enjoyed the movies as someone would normally appreciate media they liked.
but then a couple years ago (3-4) i rewatched the TASM movies and something just clicked inside me (idk if this makes sense??). following that rewatch i was rlly into spiderman. i consumed as much spiderman content as i cld, i got posters, i started buying merch and i read a lot of fanfic too 😭. so it rlly started with andrew garfield’s spidey and the TASM movies.
then when nwh was coming out, my hyperfixation peaked. i was obsessed (even that is an understatement, its more like my being was literally wholly consumed) with spiderman - to a level that it was a defining trait of mine, every single person in my life knew (family, friends, even teachers 😭) - and i wld always get spiderman related gifts and etc. that was the strongest my obsession has ever been and i think after that point was when i truly got involved in the fandoms too - i wasn’t just being interested in spiderman as a ‘hobby’, i guess.
i’ve always resonated with peter parker though, even though we’re very different irl (obviously) i feel like i truly understand him and the nuances of his character a lot. alongside that peter parker is just my exact type of men (im not joking. at all. i could not even tell you how many guys i dated/crushed on who were basically peter parker if he didn’t have powers).
regardless of peter though, i also rlly love most of the character in the mcu spiderman franchise. namely mj watson, i can definitely relate to her character and seeing her being adored and praised across the entire fandom even though she’s a very standoffish character at times rlly makes me happy - bc a lot of her less likeable traits i see in myself. AND last not definitely not least, spideychelle is my favourite ship in any media in all contexts. i love them together so much and i’ve read so many earth-shattering (im not even joking they changed my perception of love) spideychelle fics that it would be stupid not to include them in this.

What do you think of Tyrion ? For me there are 2 of them. The book one and the show one. Show one I hate. Book one I kinda enjoy because he constantly flirts with darkness. I don’t buy show Tyrion poor misunderstood meow meow. And I hate that they did the same with show Aemond. That’s why I prefer Aegon and Daemon. From the beginning you know where they stand, there are no attempts to make them sympathetic bullshit. Stop whitewashing characters in order to make characters more sympathising for audience. The reason why the Joker, Soprano Family and Roy family from Succession are so great is because they aren’t portrayed as some poor people being victims of their circumstances all their life. Aemond wanting to console Jace at Driftmark? What the fuck is that? Also giving him sexual trauma made me laugh. The show made it clear I and everyone else is meant to feel sorry for him but I just laughed at how pathetic they are. Like you have weak Viserys, pedo Daemon, rapist and drunkard Aegon and traumatised and with only one eye Aemond. So yeah, the winner of who should be the fan favourite is clear. Instead of showing the 4 of them as bad and letting people choose who their favourite is, they create 3 of them in unsympathetic light and make one of them #1 victim and the other 3 as monsters or weak men. Sorry but I hate the narrative where I am being shown down my throat who I am supposed to love and who to hate. Especially if 3 out of 4 characters are doing terrible things and only one behaves properly until starting the war. I really can’t wait for Aemond to burn Riverlands, most stans would leave his fanclub and began to see Aegon is not the worst guy out there. I just hope TGC won’t stop playing Aegon until the moment Aemond will show everyone what a legit psycho he really is. And tbh Aemond was my favourite green character in the book but the forced victimisation and the way the fandom act as if aemond is the most opressed character and "feminist" to ever walk in westros when he is the targaryen ver of Andrew tate in reality has completely ruined my enjoyment of him
I don't really have anything to add. I agree with your complains for the most part. I think lots of shows nowadays are painfully censored, the writing has to be simple and the views have to be walked by the hand because they cannot make an intellectual conclusion on their own.
Dunno if you've watched this. But Hannibal nbc was one of my favorite shows of all time. An interesting adaption that was definitely very different from the book material but didn't try to pretend to be better. It was its own thing and was extremely controversial while it was airing due to the violence, themes, and overall subjects. It also remains very much loved despite the years that have passed with an ever so dedicated fanbase.
it seems hard to recreate shows like this. Even GoT's writing was starting to suffering way before the last two seasons but ofc people were trying to be optimistic and we still had hope that one day George might publish another book...
I loved Tyrion and still do in the books. His pov happens to be a favorite of mine, but the show version of him got very bad very fast. It's as you mentioned, there doesn't seem to be a balance about the characters who are supposed to be dark but also possess good traits. It's what makes them interesting in first place.
There's a very weird love for oversimplification in recent times and it kinda sucks out the joy ngl.
As for show aemond, I've ranted so much about him I'd probably repeat myself. I'd only advise to keep expectations low. S1 they managed to make him murdering Lucerys an accident 💀 I wouldn't be surprised if they try something similiar with the burning of Riverlands (perhaps another misunderstanding like the alicent x Viserys one?) who knows. we can only wait and see
