I'm not doing this in a reblog because it's not worth starting a fight, but I just saw a post that was saying that if your characters are under 18, they should never be naked on screen, no matter how old the actors playing them are.
And it went on for a bit about unreasonable and exploitative on-screen nudity is, and that there's no good reason to ever have young characters naked.
And it never outright said that all nudity is inherently sexual, but it was so obviously coming from a place of seeing all nudity as inherently sexual, to an extent that I find mindboggling and frankly sad.
One of my all time favorite movies is My Neighbor Totoro--which is animated, so there's no actors on screen, but our main characters are little girls. The younger sister is about 3, and the older sister is only a few years older. There's a very sweet scene of the two of them (and their father) taking a bath and laughing loudly to scare of spirits. This is a cultural in which communal bathing is normal. Nothing at all untoward about it, it's a family bonding moment, and of course they're naked, they're taking a bath.
Pan's Labyrinth also has a couple bath scenes--del Toro has a bit of a thing for using baths as places of sanctuary and introspection in his films. Our protagonist Ofelia is 10, the actress who plays her was 11 during filming. And guess what, she was never naked on set. I have seen the costume department notes for that film with my own eyes, she was wearing a skintone bathing suit and I promise you there was somebody standing by with a robe to bundle her up in as soon as cut was called; del Toro has a rep for being very conscientious about making sure his actors are comfortable on set. Point is thought, character nudity =/= actor nudity, not necessarily.
In fact, because of the laws and regulations around working with under-age actors, a lot of the time you can't have the actor nude. If it's a case of Dawson casting with a 30 year old playing a 17 year old? That 30 year old can make their own decisions about their willingness to do the scene and the character isn't real, the character is fine.
And if you're watching a scene like that and are really that fixated on the young characters' nudity, I think there's something wrong with you, not with the movie.
Are there issues with the ways in which actors--especially young women actors--are often pressured into on screen nudity? Yes. Absolutely. And it's worth it to step back and think about what role nudity is serving in a film or TV show--and, if you're on the creative end, to consider ahead of time if you need to put your cast in that vulnerable position and how you're going to protect their comfort and dignity if the answer is yes.
But nudity is not inherently sexual. On-screen nudity does not inherently require on-set nudity. On-set nudity (and partial nudity) can be done in ways that are respectful and comfortable for the actor. Children have bodies and sometimes those bodies don't have clothes; this is an entirely nuetral fact of life and there is absolutely nothing wrong with film and television reflecting that reality.
This is not the most coherent or in-depth write up I could do on this subject, but I just needed to spit these thoughts somewhere.
Somethingsomething Americans don't see their grandma's tits and it makes them weird.

the biggest change I've made for efri & co.'s college questline is that they have to sneak around for all of it. in the game everyone will just send you off to do whatever but mirabelle is refusing point blank to let this ten year old (+11 year old + normal apprentices) go gallivanting off on a death mission because Obviously. so the difference is that efri has marginally more difficulty getting the necessary information to go anyway and then routinely shows up again going hi!! we did the thing!!! you can't be mad at me because we only ALMOST died and we were successful. and you can't kick me out because you're attached to me now :D (kazari stop trying to get me to tell them about the really extra stupid shit I did. I'm not dobbing on myself)

also i'm surprised by how non-gory the scene with lloyd absorbing the corrupted mana from the undead mastodons is in the webtoon. like. surprisingly so. for a webcomic that likes to make normal things look unsettling and a little bit disgusting at times, they really didn't take the chance to make that scene absolutely terrifying or even a little bit painful looking. it's the one scene i think would've been absolutely justified in going ham with the gory details and they. just didn't take it.
like in the novel lloyd is straight up rotting on the inside while absorbing the mana. he coughs up blood, his heart starts failing, his lungs rot, he gets a stomach ulcer and his liver gets ripped apart. his muscles go numb, he gets arthritis and osteoporosis, his nerves are destroyed and his cartilage disappears.
he's straight up half-dead. the only reason he didn't die is because his manaheart was restoring his body at the same time the corrupted mana was destroying it. hell, the novel outright calls it death and resurrection, which while may be a little bit of drama does let it us know how utterly painful and serious what lloyd was doing is.
and of course the webcomic only took the time to make a joke to give us exposition and one panel of him coughing a little blood. that's. fine. whatever. i'm just surprised they didn't take the chance to give us those extremely detailed and unsettling drawings they really like to show off when it comes to lloyd's demonic smiles 🙃

It's Not a Big Deal by AidaRonan
Transcript:
“You wanna know something fun about DnD though?” “What?” “You can do a game with just two players.”
Steve sits up. “Really?” He looks interested, hopeful. And, fuck, Eddie wishes Steve would level that look at him for something other than Dungeons & Dragons. Though, admittedly, Steve playing Dungeons & Dragons with him isn’t exactly NOT on Eddie’s crush-ridden daydreams list.
Like, Eddie has some weird turn-ons, and that is definitely one of them.

Having a name u inherently get icked out from bcus of a previous abuser with that name is usually not too difficult to deal with but then imagine you start watching a TV show and one of the main characters has that name but you deal with it bcus meh he's like just there not being super plot relevant but then later a character is introduced that has the same name as you which is really cool and neat but then you quickly realize she's meant to be the love interest to the character who shares a name w ur abuser so it's like just double ick and actually really hard to get past everytime they interact and on top of that they are objectively a top tier couple you know you'd enjoy but you literally just cannot and they're literally the main focus of the whole season

Wonderful Things That May or May Not Be Wonderful!!! This is Goldlewis Dickinson. He was the first DLC character for Guilty Gear Strive. He is the first United States Secretary of Defense to also be an active duty military officer and his weapon of choice is a coffin on a chain with a very handsy alien inside. With this extremely unorthodox flail, he can perform his signature technique: Behemoth Typhoon. It looks like he just swings the coffin around but it is oh so much much more than that. You see, in fighting games, most special moves have one or a few variations. When you press B to throw Mario's Fireball in Smash, you only have that one kind of fireball. In games like Street Fighter or Marvel Vs. Capcom, you can have two to three variations of one special move by using a different button for different results. Behemoth Typhoon has SIXTEEN VARIATIONS of itself. How is that possible? Well, I could explain but it might get technical and rambling so here is this neato chart (it should be noted that he can use this move in the air so that's where the other eight variants come from)….
Tumblr media
As you can hopefully see, the way you move the control stick to perform each variation is the same as how Goldlewis will swing his coffin in the game. This allows for a greater connection to the move making it feel awesome to perform and it makes all the variations easier to remember (which is good considering the chart). Plus, while they all have different quirks in their speed, trajectory, and impact, they are all powerful and one hit will send the opponent reeling even if they block it. It is one of the most unique fighting game special moves I have ever seen and it is a blast to pull off. If that still doesn't make sense…well, it's a big burly Texan politician who doesn't mind getting his hands dirty clocking fools with a coffin from Area 51. That's wonderful no matter how you dish it out.

Hm.
'Cause I'm a loser that likes to stalk the TVTropes pages of things I play/watch, I noticed that a piece of Pikmin 4 trivia I posted seems to have been plagiarized~
I don't mind it in the sense that I post trivia to increase general knowledge of the given subject, not for any sense of glory or whatever. I don't really need attribution for things that any random schmo can find. But it's that I know that the way I write and word things is more awkward than most, so it's really obvious when someone yoinks my writing, even when they "edit" it.

Does anyone know how I can "stop" ao3 from automatically adding "freeform" on the additional tags of my fic? Or what are the conditions under which it's added in the first place, cause it kinda seems random?
