HISTORY
Born somewhere on Naraille, Erec was originally a noble. He doesn’t say what exactly was the cause of his exile, but he’s been hiding his face behind a mask ever since. He joined the cause willingly, practically begging Darmana to let him join so that he could be of use to people still, and hopefully die an honorable death for a worthy cause. Darmana has to constantly remind him that he is worth more alive than dead. While he mostly helps out on the missions, protecting weaker members of the circle, Magdalena uses his knowledge of nobility in her dealings as well.
PERSONALITY
Whatever Erec was like before the exile, he is no longer that. Now, he barely feels like a noble, self-conscious, trying to feel as small as possible (take little space, don’t waste anybody’s time with conversations) and throwing himself into battles in a borderline suicidal manner. Since his life changed so drastically, he is prone to catastrophic thinking and overthinking. He is not particularly smart, being more of a feeler, but he is brave, good at fighting and, more importantly, kind and conscientious. He feels particularly strongly about other pariahs and people down on their luck. He is the type to give his last coin to a beggar on the street. Everything in the world reminds him either of his struggle or of what he’d lost. He thus values hope, encouragement and, most of all, mercy.

HISTORY
Ada was born in a small village on Theklis, the Isle of Forests. She was taught in a local Church, by the Anvil Church priests. Most of them were dwarves, including some Dakash (underground) ones, so she’d always felt connected to both worlds. She didn’t have many friends because of her shy nature, and the only real friend she had was her neighbor’s niece Karina Tallegh.
One of Ada’s least favorite people in the world was a local mage, Thom Barin. When the Wailing began, he tried to create a protector beast for the village, but the drake he created was uncontrollable. It killed Thom and burned the village to the ground. Since then, Ada has two great fears: fire and magic. Nevertheless, she dreams of returning and defeating the drake. She learned how to wield a mace for that exact reason.
Being two of the few who survived the drake attack, Karina and Ada joined a big group of refugees under the Consolers Order protection. Soon, they decided to join the Order as well, albeit as nothing more than kitchen staff, but still believing they help the cause. They were fairly happy with their lives until Karina disappeared. Ada tried her best, but nobody could find Karina, and all Ada could do is hope for her return and work twice as hard in the kitchen.
One day, after a weird nightmare, Ada went to work as usual. Still thinking about the nightmare, she was clumsy enough to drop a pot of boiling water onto herself, which would have been a death sentence, if she hadn’t teleported to the other side of the room. The only problem was that Ada wasn’t a mage.
PERSONALITY
Ada is an ambivert, neither too social nor too shy, having become much braver since the attack. She is good at making decisions on the fly – not good decisions, necessarily, but quick ones. She cares deeply about others’ happiness, volunteering to help in any way she can. Attentive, polite and honest, she is a generally good person and an even better friend.

HISTORY
Born into a family of master masons, Darmana was a knight-protector of the underground city Minna-Kaz, in Qal-Batan. When the effects of the Wailing (a magical anomaly created by the murder of the God) reached her city, Darmana volunteered to lead a group of other dwarves to the surface to find a solution to the problem, however long it may take. She met Magdalena after defending a church from a pack of maddened bearwolves together. The women realized they had a common goal and the clerics along with the dwarves founded the Consolers Order. Now, Darmana’s the Consolation’s right hand, in charge of the inner circle consisting of the key agents of the Order.
PERSONALITY
As Darmana likes to say, she is a woman of stone, with a heart of stone. Stoic, emotionless, blunt and practical-thinking, she is nevertheless very protective of her comrades. She tends to seek direct solutions for her problems, no matter the difficulties. She values dwarven traditions and praises her homeland a lot. Sometimes she comes off as arrogant because of it, but it is just her overly honest nature. Darmana values honesty, loyalty and the sense of duty, but also recognizes the strength it takes to be softer and kinder than she is herself.

ADERKAS LORE: The Orca Archipelago
318 years ago, the process called The Wandering ended, with humans settling on the Orca archipelago, the six islands surrounded by the Hazy Seas: Teiss, Leithaven, Ampphire, Grunflock, Kolstein and Concana. As they settled, the Haze surrounded the archipelago again, trapping the wanderers on the cursed isles.

THE HAZE
The Haze is a supernatural phenomenon, a thick fog that cuts the archipelago off the world the wanderers originally came from. Although it looks just like any other fog and consists of air and water as well, something makes anybody who spends a lot of time in the Haze go mad, and often violent as well. Mostly, the Haze remains on the edges of the archipelago, but sometimes it moves closer to the islands, causing great distress.
68 years before the events of “Aderkas: Muted Teal”, the Haze almost swallowed Teiss, Concana and Kolstein due to corruption in the ruling dynasty, which led to their execution and establishment of the Aderkas dynasty.
THE TEISSIAN EMPIRE
On the island of Teiss, it is commonly believed that the Wandering ended with the first monarch of Teiss and the Prophet of Kings, Isolde Kalmia, being crowned. Other islands have their own ideas on what ended the Wandering, but now that Teiss rules over them all, their voices on the topic are largely ignored.
The Teissian Empire, as it is known, was established by the Kalmia dynasty, but currently, it is ruled by the house Aderkas, descendants of the Prophet of Clerics. While it is called an Empire, the monarch’s power is limited in favor of the Parliament of three Lodges.
While the entire Empire is ruled by the monarch, each island has its local ruler, the Grand Duke or Duchess, who answers to the monarch directly and not the Parliament, even though they have their representatives in the Highest Lodge.
THE PROPHETS
People of the archipelago worship seven Prophets, each symbolizing the rise of a certain class of people. The Prophets are: The King (house Kalmia), The Knight (house Winter), The Mage (house Octopoda), The Cleric (house Aderkas), The Creator (house Silverlane), The Merchant (house Navalia) and the Worker (houses Rosewood and Heatherton). The Prophets, aside from the house Navalia of Concana, are all conveniently from Teiss.
The Church of the Seven Prophets is a force to be reckoned with on all islands, but is the strongest in Teiss and especially in the capital city of Griskaur. In Griskaur, it has its own military power, the Crimson Brotherhood, a network of masked mages. They spy, they arrest, and they kill if necessary, controlled solely by the Archbishop.

ADERKAS LORE: the Darkened, God of decay and everything abyssal
Love or hate him, doesn’t matter.
By the fever, sword or Haze,
Cultists, fools and non-believers,
All will come to his embrace.
There is no system in his choice of “lovers”, as he likes to call them. His gift is not one of decay and death, as you’d expect, but one of pure magic, hidden in mirrors and all things ancient. He demands nothing, stating that his “love” is unconditional. Whether that’s true is impossible to know. He does, however, care for his chosen's lives. That shows also in how he tries to keep them sane despite the call of the Abyss. He shows his “love” constantly, in hopes that it’d stop them from doing anything they can’t undo. When they do leave this world, he is the last voice they hear, a soft reassuring murmur in their ears.

Aeyera-Mao: He has many names, but I prefer when he is called Beloved. Because they always mean “Desired”, and I can feed off that.

ADERKAS: MUTED TEAL
The long-awaited story pitch for the possible visual novel (is under cut).

After the death of her father, lady Selene Kolmann was supposed to become the Grand Duchess of the Kolstein island, and her twin brother Sebastian was to become a member of the Highest Lodge of the Parliament, far away in the capital. Things went to shit pretty fast. Sebastian organized a coup to accuse Selene of treachery and divine worship (the worst crime of them all on the Orca archipelago). With the guards and the judges bribed, Selene couldn’t escape or prove her innocence.
Selene’s tongue was carved out and as she awaited a proper execution, one of their accusations became true. Kyokojudaa, a Goddess of secrets, imposed her help upon Selene, making her cultists rescue the disgraced lady. For a year, Selene was healing her wounds, learning sign language, seeking out secrets for Kyokojudaa and honing her fighting skills, eliminating her enemies one by one, until only Sebastian remained to be dealt with.
Her plan is to face him during the Empress’ masquerade, tearing the masks off both their faces, literally and metaphorically, right in front of the monarch.
THE COMPANIONS
Selene has two main companions, Dagger and Morgana.
Dagger is one of the infamous Knife brothers, a gangster family controlling three cities on three islands at once. Dagger is in charge of the East-Kolstein branch, but while his brothers think mostly of money and influence, Dagger is also a cultist of Kyokojudaa, concerned with pleasing the Goddess. It is because of Her call that he rescued Selene and nursed her back to health, but over the year, he became fond of her personally as well.
Morgana Blackshore is a former corporal of the City Guard, laid off because she didn’t believe in Selene’s guilt. Once Selene escaped, and Morgana refused to search for her, she was approached by Dagger to help restore Selene to power. Morgana was the one teaching Selene (and Dagger) sign language. She first accepted the invitation to join the counter-coup out of her sense of justice, but became genuinely fond of Selene over time they spent together. Aside from them, Selene is sometimes offered help by Kyokojudaa Herself, the Goddess seemingly having some sort of a plan for her – one she will set in motion, whether she wants to or not.

Personality
Dagger is unusually joyful and friendly-looking for his profession and position within the gang. That friendliness, however, doesn’t stop him from doing whatever he deems necessary for whatever purpose. He is the type of mobster that would call you “friend” or “buddy” even after he tortured you and/or your family, as long as he feels like you are no longer a danger or deserving of punishment.
Despite all that, among the Knife brothers, Dagger is the most compassionate. He is not even a sadist, preferring it when people just pay on time and behave so that he doesn’t have to use force.
History
Dagger is one of the infamous Knife brothers, raised on the street, solely by his older brother Cleaver. He turned to crime as a child, robbing other children. Now, he is part of the Knives’ gang. While Cleaver manages the original Griskaur branch and Lancet controls Leithaven, Dagger is in charge of the gang’s operations in East-Kolstein.
When Selene was thrown in prison, Kyokojudaa ordered Dagger to care for her and help her in every way until she gets her title back. Dagger needed no other reason to do so.
Abilities
As a cultist, Dagger is moderately proficient in magic. He can turn his body into the Haze briefly, sense people through walls and pull small objects towards himself.
He is also a master thief and burglar, but is not particularly strong physically (which doesn’t stop him from getting into fights).

ADERKAS LORE: Kyokojudaa, Goddess of secrets and the Haze
Secret knowledge's layered thick,
Books and memories of old.
Like a serpent of the deep,
Kyokojudaa guards her hoard.
She calls her followers herself — those that are hungry for knowledge or those who are good at finding it. She offers them power over her sacred animals — the moths. Sometimes, she also shares her power over the Haze with them, but that’s a rare occurrence.
No special acts are needed to appease her. She watches the world through your eyes, and that is enough for her. Sometimes, however, she does have a bigger plan in mind. Constant exposure to the Haze slowly drives the cultists mad, but it usually occurs later in their lives, when their mind weakens naturally. Then, the Haze starts looking extremely alluring to them, and soon they find themselves lost in it, with no hope of finding their way back to the shore.

Aeyera-Mao: Kyokojudaa’s hunger for knowledge is so strong I can barely sense anything else when she is around.
Darkened: Kyokojudaa keeps bothering me with her questions. My name, my age, my origin… She’s greedy, even more so than Aeyera-Mao. I am, however, very generous. Just not with her.

There, sitting on the golden throne,
His goblet full of mead,
He offers everything you want,
But never what you need.
He seeks out the insatiable, or those that would seek him out instead. He grants them power over flesh, and minds by proxy. In return, he expects bloody sacrifices, varying in intensity and wickedness. His followers succumb to madness easily, driven insane by the immense power they are granted. Once they are unstable enough, he lures them closer and has his most devoted servants tear them apart, quite literally and painfully. Some say their souls are never to leave his domain afterwards.

Kyokojudaa: Aeyera-Mao is the oldest of us all. He was already ancient when I first entered this world. And he will be the last to leave.
Darkened: Ah, yes, the Old One. He once knew love, as I do. But time fixes everything, even such fatal flaws.

You bet.
So since I am obsessed with Aderkas currently, here's Ombra as she would be in that universe and, because I can't stop myself, a small, mostly dialogue drabble about her meeting with Aeyera-Mao who gave her these sick bloody powers.
“My soul… There you are, at last…” a familiar, much loved voice rings in her head, an unlikely respite in this new world she appeared in so suddenly.
But something feels off. The voice is not quite Quan Chi’s, more melodic and a little higher in pitch. Sounding almost like it’s about to laugh.
Laugh at her naivety.
“How dare you…” Ombra hisses, turning around.
“I can feel your desire…” the invisible voice reveals its true sound, uncomfortably soft, like sourdough. “It’s like a song to me, composed of moans and battle cries.”
“Quit this shit,” the woman growls. “And show yourself, so I can kick your ass.”
The voice laughs.
“There it is. Your greatest desire. An eternal drive for revenge. Do you even see how controllable it makes you?”
That makes her blood boil. Controllable? Never again.
“The moment I find you, you’ll wish you were never born, voice.”
“The name is Aeyera-Mao. And I was never born, just so you know.”
There is a feeling of warmth surrounding her, the kind you’d feel from a living body. It pulsates, making her feel sick with disgust.
“Your desires are mine to read and twist. You want to leave this place, like many did before you. Except they were born here, but I sense no sense of your mother in this domain.”
“Don’t you dare mention my mother," she warns. "None of them.”
“As you wish. After all, it is your wishes that I came to fulfill. What else do you wish for? I know, of course, but I’d love to hear you confess.”
“I wish for you to fuck off,” Ombra spits out.
This voice, whatever it calls itself, is somehow very good at pushing her buttons. As if it could really see through her defenses, but that is impossible. The heartbeat of an invisible force around her quickens.
“Do you feel it, my beating heart? People beg and kill for this power. And it’s yours to take.”
“Keep it and go away.”
“You are alone,” the voice coos. “Alone and helpless, even with all that magic you still have.”
She clenches her jaw, not even noticing it. The situation did seem rather unpleasant at first, but now, it looks more disastrous than merely annoying.
“This heart’s power is yours." the voice sighs softly, an unkind smile evident in the sound. "I’ll take it back, in time, but now, it is your best chance of ever seeing them again.”
“What is your game?” Ombra whispers, her very soul torn between fear and desperation.
“That is a good choice of a word,” the voice commends, sounding sickeningly condescending. “Game... I’d say it’s a tug-of-war, with you both a player and a rope.”
She thinks. Thinks for quite some time, then swallows and addresses him again.
“Don’t think I will obey you, voice,” she says, and lets her heartbeat synchronize with the pulse of this creature’s magic. The power, raw like fresh meat, seeps through her skin and into her veins.
“I won’t need that from you. As long as you follow your desires…”
…she’ll be doing exactly what he wants, she realizes, and so their game begins.

Morgana is a strict, no-nonsense person. She finds it hard to express empathy and care in any way other than acts of service. Originally, she started helping Selene return her title and position as the Grand Duchess of Kolstein simply out of her sense of justice.
Morgana rose in ranks from the very bottom, so she values hard work and high morals and believes that people choose their own destinies. She thinks that the optimal path for Kolstein is maintaining strong social institutions, especially law enforcement.
History
Morgana was born in a poor family and raised on the street. As a child, she almost died in a fight with older children, but was saved by a City Guard. That inspired her to become a Guard herself, so that she could protect the innocent and bring the guilty to justice.
When Selene was accused of heresy, Morgana was the only person who openly opposed the general and the judges, suspecting they were either deceived or bribed. She was nearly accused of treachery herself, but the general decided to simply fire her.
Soon after Selene managed to flee the prison, she was approached by Dagger and invited to join a counter-coup against the usurper.
Abilities
Morgana can’t use magic. Her only special skills are martial training and immense physical strength. As a former Guard, she has some detective skills as well.
