#just finished reading iwtv yesterday and im honestly afraid to continue the series after hearing how BATSHIT the rest of it is #but i really really enjoyed it like #annotated and scribbled all over it which i haven't done since like...high school #im wondering if i would've felt similarly abt it if i read the book before watching the show #cause it's that weird thing where if you see one before the other the one you know kind of becomes the 'og canon' version even though #it's derivative #like i kept inserting the (very different) context of the show into what happens in the book and it just....made it so much more rich than #i feel like i might've found it without the show? like if the stand alone wouldn't have resonated with me as much?#idk im SOOOO excited for season 2 to see what it feels like to have read that part before watching #i started tvl and it is.....fine so far like obviously the whole rockstart thing is SAURRR corny but am sticking it out for #crazy unhinged lestat childhood trauma origin story #anyways #iwtv

The one bizarre thing to me about textiles is that warp-weighted weaving is at least 6500 years old, but our oldest knitted artifacts are only ~1000 years old, and crochet 200 years old. Even though you need less equipment to knit (two sticks) or crochet (one hook) compared to warp-weighted weaving (frame, loom weights, batting, heddles). Why the big gaps between these inventions? And why did each one appear and spread when it did?

people seriously pretending EEAAO is overrated suddenly bc it swept awards? it swept awards largely because it is very very very good. I cried like someone who's just had a religious revelation BOTH times I watched it bc it touched something raw and real and beautiful but it was also just very, very funny. everyone's performance kills and the concept is creative and interesting and doesn't distract from the emotional core. you guys are just contrarian.

hey why are the Van Helsings always the Vampire Hunting Family in modern Dracula stories. Abraham Van Helsing might be the guy who knows stuff but his family is off in the Netherlands and/or dead and totally uninvolved in the plot. Abraham's great-great grandson has no reason to be doing backflips and chopping off heads or whatever

You know who is a family who hates Dracula so so much and would totally teach their kids how to hunt vampires? The Harkers. you guys have no idea how much it tickles me to see ds9 trending on the top 20 of shows of Tumblr this week when ds9 literally aired from 1993 to 1999.

this show is 31 years old. it was the black sheep of the franchise for years, was hated by Rick Berman to the point where its canon was disrespected and ignored for every subsequent star trek, including modern trek.

and yet.

still top 20 on trending shows of 2024.

and i'm so glad the youngins are still watching it, and star trek in general.

it just proves my theory that if you make a show that feels like home, people will not only return to it, but bring their children with them too.

also that if you make a really gay and trans half alien half human crew, your show will be timeless.
