actually should i just drop a completely unprompted long take on The Sun and The Star?? nobody asked for this but my audience is 1, and it is me. behold, my list:

Things I Liked:

Nico book!! yeah Nico book, book for Nico!!

Seriously though, this was such an awesome book for queer representation. Nico was such an icon for queer kids like me growing up, at a time when it wasn’t very common to see gay people in media, and he had a happy ending! it’s really cool that he has his own book, and kids today will have this.

Nico and Will were compelling characters, they were well-written and play off each other nicely!

They gave Nico PTSD, which I thought actually made a lot of sense and seemed realistic for his situation. I mean, the guy’s been through a lot.

nostalgia. plain and simple. i am simply biased to like this book bc it is Percy Jackson-related.

Things I Disliked:

i was super surprised that Nico was relatively cool with Will coming to Tartarus with him, especially given the prophecy? i thought Will would have to sneak down there! felt strange that Nico would be pretty chill with his boyfriend coming to Literal Hell with him, especially since it’s a major source of his PTSD.

Will didn’t bring a weapon?? Nico was like “eh whatever” when it came to packing food? it’s TARTARUS ! be so much more serious i am begginggg you.

I wish they’d done more with his PTSD? i mean, he had the dreams, but it turns out those were sent by Nyx, so what really was the extent of his ptsd? Especially going back to tartarus, it might’ve been more meaningful for him to shut down or freeze up in an important moment, or exhibit more symptoms throughout the book

GOD parts of it were cringe. “cocoa puffs”?? be so fr. ik theyre teens, and teens are ABSOLUTELY cringe, but this didn’t feel like teen cringe, it felt more like “older people trying to write teen lingo” cringe

going to Percy’s mom’s house felt super shoe-horned in. i can maybee understand wanting to iris-message Percy and Annabeth, but the whole “we don’t know his schedule thing” was a pretty thinly-veiled excuse

the reveal that Nico was playing Mythomagic in the 40s???? ?? this was such a small detail but it really got to me. no WAY have the “greek pokémon cards” been around 80 YEARS. broke my immersion lol

They didn’t have to drink from the Phlegethon once? What happened to the acid air! i know they were eating a lot of ambrosia, but if that was healing them, it’d be nice if the book explicitly mentioned it. and like, they slept there overnight, and not one mention of their throats hurting bc of the,, poison air? i mean this was a majorrr mechanic of percy and annabeth’s time there! they mentioned it like once or twice i think, but that was about it.

also, in the tartarus flashback, Nico didn’t know what the Phlegethon was! yk, one of only 5 rivers that flows through the Underworld?? the one that’s essential to its ecosystem bc it ensures the tortured stay alive?? as someone who’s very familiar with the underworld, there’s no way he wouldn’t know what it was- if Annabeth would recognize it, he would too!

In general, the descriptions of Tartarus were toned way down from Percy and Annabeth’s experience. i reread HoH in preparation for when this book came out, and you can really tell the difference.

I think at one point in HoH, the true nature of Tartarus was revealed to Percy, and he said something like, “this must’ve been how Nico experienced Tartarus the whole time” and that always stuck with me. turns out, not really? and the book made up new mechanics about the “true nature” being revealed the longer you stayed there, which wasn’t really a thing in HoH

Nyx was a weird villain. why would a protogenos care about some random demigod “coming to the dark side”?? demigods are like ants to her. and Nico is like, a well-established hero, who’s consistently characterized as someone who is very good, and looks out for the forgotten. he’s been through some things, but his “goodness” has never reallyyy been in question (except for like, a tinyyy bit of the 4th pjo book, but still, not really)

What was the purpose of Nyx sending Nico those nightmares, when Bob was already the set trap? even Nico mentioned it was redundant, but then the authors never elaborated on it

Nico’s demons were a cool reveal, but I don’t see how they fulfilled the prophecy at all. are they really of equal value to a Titan? and Nico’s emotions are still inside him, they’re just also manifested on the outside too now. Plus, the cacodemons came with him, so he didn’t even leave them behind?? When I originally heard the prophecy, I thought maybe Bob’s essence would split from Iapetus, and they’d leave the evil titan behind while escaping with Bob. Honestly, i still think that makes more sense than what actually happened.

Wasn’t Bianca reincarnated?? how were they able to have that conversation?? ig it could be written off as “hades’ magic or whatever” but it felt like a MAJOR oversight

WHERE was Hazel??? that made no sense. she was such a big part of Nico’s life in HoO, i don’t know if they mentioned it even once?? Why in the world would Nico call Piper at the end? ik it made sense thematically, since Piper is also queer, but it felt so shallow and surface level. like “ooh let’s have the two gay characters talk”. in reality Nico and Piper never talked in HoO, it really doesn’t make sense for them to talk now, as the final part of the book? where is his sister?? it honestly would’ve been nice to see her reaction to his queerness as well, since she’s from another century. it could’ve been a cool little “being from a different time is not an excuse for homophobia, look hazel’s an ally” thing! idk lol i just wanted to see her again

Things Other People Disliked That I Thought Were Fine, Actually:

people said Nico was OOC, but i thought he was pretty in line with the Nico of ToA. A year or so has passed since the Nico of HoO, and this is the first time he’s been in a really good place. He’s allowed to act happy!

some people reallyyy hated Will in this book, but i thought he was alright. he was a flawed character, but it’s good when characters have flaws! plus he was like half-awake and drained for most of the book, obv he’s not gonna be on his best behavior!

i saw people saying the book was too sappy, but i think it was alright! was it sappy? yeahhh. but like, it was a book explicitly for queer representation, go big or go home right? i’m glad kids today have this!

i saw a lot of people arguing that the book was cringe, in CONTRAST to the previous percy jackson books. and yea, it was cringe sometimes. but this is a well-established precedent within the percy jackson series !!! i hatee to say this but. be so genuine and fr with me rn. are you gonna tell me “seaweed brain” “wise girl” isn’t,,, cringe? the quips have ALWAYS been “erm, it’s right behind me, isn’t it?”-style. i knowww it’s hard to hear but the only difference is that we’re older now and can recognize it.

people were arguing that Tartarus was Percy and Annabeth’s thing, and that sending Nico down there with Will was infringing on that. but i reallyy disagree. Nico was the FIRST person down there, and he did it alone! if Tartarus was anyone’s “thing”, it’d be Nico’s. and besides, if you’re gonna make a Nico and Will-centric book, what better way then to send them through the gauntlet of Tartarus, symbolically saying that their journey was just as valid as Percy and Annabeth’s?

Anyways, there’s my extremely long take on TSaTS. I know it seems like i had a lot of negative things to say about it, but i actually really liked the book overall. Did it have questionable writing choices and weird moments of characterization? yeah a little bit. but i still enjoyed it so much! Absolutely feel free to disagree with me, i’m actually really curious to see what other people thought of the book!!

OH BOY DO I

So some of these are educational graphic novels bc of who I am as a person but they're SUPER GOOD and you should still read them - but here's my list of recommendations in no particular order

Marie Curie: A Quest for Light (a graphic novel bio of the famous scientist that highlights her politics!)

Folklords (only 5 issues, does some really cool stuff with subverted fantasy tropes, Ansel is a cutie, 8/10)

The Magicians (this is based on the book series by Lev Grossman, and if you're familiar with the FX show you already know the premise, but it's VERY FUN and I like it so it's on here)

The Good Neighbors (this is more of a YA vibe and as the title suggests deals with fae nonsense, very fun)

Something is Killing the Children (some other comics go along with this one like House of Slaughter, all are in the horror genre, and it's a GREAT TIME if you're into that sort of thing)

Shubeik Lubeik (THIS IS A REALLY COOL BOOK ABOUT WISHES AND HOW THOSE WOULD LOOK IN A MORE REALISTIC CAIRO AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH)

Pixies of the Sixties (this is a period piece that deals with things like xenophobia and racism while also playing up the aesthetics of 1960s London and fairies)

Now Let Me Fly: A Portrait of Eugene Bullard (a graphic novel bio of the first African-American fighter pilot)

Little Monsters (a horror story about children vampires in a post apocalyptic setting)

Judas (yes, Iscariot, it's a really fascinating look at the Biblical figure)

Heavy Vinyl (wlw, late 90s record store, teen girl vigilante fight club- good times)

Grimm (based on the NBC show of the same name, there are other titles set in this world too, I'm very fond of this extremely trashy fairtytale-cop show mashup and how poorly it represents cops)

Godshaper (there's a god for every person, except one and he teams up with a god who doesn't have a person and together they travel around looking for a warm welcome and a paying rock gig)

Evita, the Life and Work of Eva Perón (a biography of the former Argentinian first lady)

Eat the Rich (a little bit like Knives Out)

Carmilla: The First Vampire (queer feminist murder mystery inspired by the gothic novel, Carmilla, and pulling from Chinese folklore)

Bone Parish (a necromantic horror story about the rich peddling drugs made with the ashes of the deceased)

Blue Book (true tales of ordinary people encountering the strange and impossible - ex. alien abductions)

Art Brut (equal parts police procedural, hyper-fantasy, and psychological thriller set on a backdrop of a trip through art history)

Aristotle (biography of the philosopher dealing with more than just his ideas)

Alienated (a story about having the power to change the world but not being ready to wield that power- more YA vibes but a good read for any age imo)

Abbott (and Abbott: 1973- a tabloid reporter investigates grisly crimes she knows the police have ignored and that she knows are occult in origin)

Cloud Strife fluff alphabet

Genre: slight angst, fluff, slight hurt/comfort

Warnings: lightly implied sex, FFVII remake spoilers, angst, small argument, fem! implied reader

Pair: Cloud Strife x gn!Reader, Cloud Strife x fem!Reader

Notes: Make sure to lmk if you want these for a specific character bc I'll do it for a few others probably? Also, these are SO LONG I’m hORRIBLE at condensing things down into points💀

A- Activities: What do they like to do together? How do they spend their free time?

In any free time he gets, Cloud would want to meaningfully spend it with you talking, kissing or maybe taking you out for a small spontaneous date bc he's too inexperienced and nervous to ask you out before hand. He kind of just tells you you're going and you're going, no questions asked.

B- Beauty: What do they admire about their s/o? What are their partner's best features?

I feel like Cloud would genuinely have such a hard time with picking a favorite about his s/o because he loves you and everything that came with you, so for him it’s like, “why would I have to pick a favorite when I can just favor it all?”. But seriously if he had to choose it’d be your open mindedness and willingness to accept him despite his “faults” because he knows that he’s disliked among many people for his views, attitude and the way he speaks realistically and unforgivingly how he wants. So when you truly looked past that into the meaning behind his words and eyes, it would mean the world and beyond to him.

C- Comfort: How do they comfort their partner during any low moments?

Cloud isn't really good with words, he’s more of an action kind of guy— but he understands over time how to comfort you. If you're not doing so good, he can tell immediately. I consider him to be very attentive without even trying; like he’ll be noticing things about you without either of you realizing it because he’s always looking at you. You don’t even have to say how you’re feeling, he already has an idea. Without asking why, he'll just walk silently into your room at the inn and crawl into bed beside you as you cry into his chest or his shoulder 🥺 he'd be super understanding, not try to suggest solutions unless you asked for them and won’t ask you or beg you to explain… He’ll probably stroke the back of your head and whisper random thoughts in the air to distract you when you quiet down.

D- Dreams: How do they envision their future with their s/o? How do they want to build a life with their partner? (Fem!reader lightly implied)

Cloud still finds it hard to believe that he was able to pull you (strange, because you feel that way as well) but never once has he complained about it. Never will he. If at all possible, he at least wants to put a ring on your finger, however, he is totally okay with just staying with you forever. I feel like he wants to marry you to see you in wedding attire and for the memories but he’s also the type of guy to think that the idea of putting labels/rings on to prove your love is ridiculous. After all, no one/thing can prove his love for you like he can and labels aren’t what’s important; as long as he can stay by your side and call you his, and vise versa, he’s totally happy. Of course, if you want to get married he’s not averse to the idea at all, either, he doesn’t mind either way. When it comes to children… hear me out!! I feel like he doesn’t really want any children. If you feel strongly about it, he’s open to working things out and agreeing on one way or the other. But his childhood was messed up, along with the enemies/people that wish to see him suffer along with his enemies, line of work and just generally not feeling passionate about them, is all what makes him not really want to have any; again, though, he’s willing to work things out. Besides, there’s Marlene and Denzel, they’re enough for him. He is open minded, and willing to change his mind, though.

E- Equal: Who is the dominant one? Who has more control and who does more work on what sides of the spectrum?

I feel like you guys are very equal in terms of dominance (in bed and in general)… like for the most part, it doesn’t matter who’s in the dominant position. However, in most cases, he would have a preference toward being in control. If you ever are on top, he's the one who keeps you there and it's only because he needs to feel something. Again, you two make decisions together and the relationship is equal otherwise. As for house work, obviously no one likes doing any of it but since he’s always out fighting, it has to be taken care of by you; which he always appreciates and thoroughly thanks you for because he knows how important it is (his mother is to thank for this gentleman even if he has a mean first impression). Whenever he has time off, he’ll do the housework he can and surprise you with some not-so-professionally-made-and-maybe-even-burnt (but love-filled) breakfast to emphasize his point. If you work just as much as him or with him, you tend to do housework together!

F- Fight: What do they fight about? Is it easy to forgive and forget? Who apologizes first? What's it like?

So for the most part it's bickering and minor disagreements about the dangers of your jobs, insecurities or jealousy and what not. Obviously, you two will have playful squabbles where you call each other a moron It doesn’t tend to get much worse. Anything else will honestly end in screaming and crying (a lot of it being on your part sorry lol he's not someone who loses his cool easily). However he may raise his voice if gets intense. Whatever it may be over, you'll probably be in one of your rooms, yelling about his job (bc you're scared you poor baby) and he's trying to reason but the insecurities, the fear, the uncertainty and stress are all literally too much. He understands why you're upset but he's trying to make a living for you two and eventually he ends up yelling because he's so stressed and trying to put his opinion out. Occasionally you'll be the only one yelling- These actually make your relationship stronger and always end up okay! He often apologizes first but it's always awkward and stiff because he isn't used to it; but he’s trying his best! Will be very clingy afterwards, a bit more possessive.

G- Gratitude: Do they appreciate their partner? Are they aware of what their s/o is doing for them?

For what he thought was way too long, he didn’t realize how much you changed his life until he (idk) picks up one of your habits or the way you do small kind things for him and he suddenly feels the undeniable desire to do the same for you without realizing he already has. So he does extra just because he's falling harder and harder every day; because he wants to. He wants to be the source of your happiness and to see a smile light up your face. He's genuinely so painfully grateful that you chose him and loved him the way you did… I feel like that thought is what causes insecurities (like “I’m not good enough, “they deserve better”, etc.) and keeps him up at night. But it’s also the thought that makes him hold you tightly to him while you sleep, confident that he would keep you safe while you had your guard down until he, too, succumbed to the blissful darkness alongside you.

H- Honesty: Did/do they ever keep secrets from their partner? Personal? Problems?

High key, I feel like Cloud has a lot of secrets and he is not the type to reveal them or his personal life unless you’d been dating for years. He’s willing to talk about certain things about his past but it makes him uncomfortable and he’s just prefer not to. He isn’t proud of his life experiences, a lot of them made him unhappy, whether the things that happened were his fault or not. When he gets comfortable enough, he’ll slowly open up and answer most of your questions with hand pushing your face into his chest, so that you don’t see his facial expressions. His problems are, in his eyes, his problems alone, so he may mention them if you’re lucky but if you think he’s letting you get involved… he’s not.

J- Jealousy: Are they the jealous type? How do they react? How do they deal with it?

Cloud is 100%, absolutely without a doubt very much the jealous type. Like you could so much as laugh at another person's joke and he'll already be upset on the inside. They seem to have a bubbly exterior anyways, what if you leave him for them? If he’s got a crush on you, he’ll side eye them with a glare and won’t say anything… but if someone is hitting on you or clearly flirting with you and you two are actually dating, he'll wrap an arm around your waist and distract you with something else like “babe, Tifa needs your help.” You’re shocked because he’s not big on PDA but you understand how he feels by the tone of his voice and you play along. At night, he'll get all emotional cs he's tired and will ask you what you thought about that person, hoping dearly that you would deny any feelings of attraction. You comfort him, reminding him of how unbelievably attractive he is, even if he doesn’t know it.

K- Kisses: Are they a good kisser? What was their first kiss like?

The first kiss? You two had separate missions to complete and were unable to see each other for several days!!:( he had a bit of separation anxiety and was so scared to leave you so when he saw you again, his body kinda had a mind of its own and grabbed you when you ran over to kiss him in front of literally everyone. He surprised himself when he kissed you back like it was normal but afterwards he was low key flustered and got reaaaallll quiet >:) at first he isn't a perfect kisser just cs he's new at it but for the first few times, he’s pretty damn good and you’re impressed; so is he. He gets better and better over time and now he's EXPERT. The moment he looks at your lips, you know he’s thinking about it, at the very least. He will follow up with either: 1, a few kisses as long as he’s 100% positively sure that no one is looking. 2, a make out sesh if you’re completely alone. Or 3, he’ll wait until you are alone to put his hands on you. The mere thought of his lips on you has you PUTTY. IN. HIS. HANDS. literally. Like legs weak, arms spaghetti, him telling you to use your legs because you just fucking melt in his arms…

L- Love confession: What was the confession like? How did it happen and who confessed?

Technically the only confession either of you gave or received was that first kiss and you just talked it out after that really awkwardly- I feel like Cloud would NEVER confess his feelings first so he’s so glad it just happened… So maybe you had both thought about it before that and had left things in the air? Maybe you even talked with each other about getting together but like??? Things didn't officially happen until the kiss, because you were both too awkward to properly work things out???

M- Marriage: Do they plan on getting married? How would the proposal go? What would the marriage be like?

This man is set on you and you alone— you're it and the only one he ever intends to be with so to him, marriage is obligatory. He doesn’t care. He doesn't know if it would even work out with how hectic and busy things are nearly at all times, if you two decided you wanted to seal the deal but again, he at least wants to put a permanent ring on your finger eventually. But if you tell him you do want to get married, he wants the proposal to be very private but super special and he wants to do it well. Knowing Cloud, I feel like he would set up a small event like watching the sunset :) If you end up getting properly married, it'll be with like a proper attire for you and MAYBE a tux. It's a hard maybe. Like he'll think about it if you beg him and then you'd have to convince him to get him to happily say yes. It'd probably just be at the 7th Heaven (or a rebuild of it depending on when) and Barret would be the replacement for a priest with Marlene being the little flower girl🥺

N- Nicknames: What do they call their partner?

At first, he just calls you your name or whatever he's always called you. But as you get deeper into the relationship he'll start calling you a shorter version of your name and when he's feeling especially romantic or soft or loving he'll call you babe… I can’t imagine him calling you anything else…

O- Obsession: Are they obsessed or a bit indifferent about their partner and how do they act around them? Are they possessive? Lenient?

So for one, Cloud lets you wear whatever tf you want bc he trusts you completely and ofc there's jealousy and insecurities but he believes genuinely that it's the fault of those who have their eye on you. And I feel like if it just outright ridiculous how revealing your clothing is, he’ll tell you to change or he’ll do it for you. Otherwise, he's not worried ab that stuff. Same thing goes for where you’re going, again ofc there are things that cross lines like going to (strip/night)clubs or whatever it may be, especially when it's without him. That shit scare him especially when you're wearing sexy ass clothes he'll be all, “You’re either bringing tifa or you’re not going.” and he will repeatedly check up on you. When around you in general, Cloud notices he's a lot kinder ab and to everything/one and he kinda likes it???? He feels so comfortable and at peace that there's literally no anger for him to take out (Y'know besides arguments and what not). It all gets dissipates when he sees you enter the vicinity.

P- PDA: Are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag with their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?

PDA is a big no no. He's knows you know better than to do things like smooching and groping and hooking up in public—that shit has never and will NEVER happen. Big big fat no no. The most affection he'll show is maybe wrapping an arm around your upper body or possibly holding your hand when no one is around. (This has exceptions ofc like being scared, in danger, etc. but otherwise???) If he's in a good mood and no one is looking, he mIGHT consider wrapping you in a tight hug and MAYBE (like he has to be in a stupendous mood and super needy) he’ll even place a kiss on your neck. Again, though, if anyone is looking, not in either of your dreams. But then he'll get super shy and promise himself never to do it again until it happens again in a month. The whole gang along with the old hag knows obviously about your relationship but it's not really a topic that comes up often. Usually it's just "how're you guys doing", "take them out for a date, Cloud, you’re so neglective!" or "I saw that hand hold/kiss, Cloudy poo!" However, he is NO WHERE near shy about announcing your relationship. Why would he? You don’t embarrass him, he’s proud of you two and he won’t let anyone try to get any ideas.

Q- Quirk: A random feature about them that's beneficial to the relationship.

Well probably the fact that he's strong asf is helpful but he'd actually do anything for you so it adds a lot of love and genuinity to the relationship.

R- Romance: How romantic are they? Are they original/classy, creative, cliche? What romantic gestures do they make?

In private he's very... romantically affectionate? Like soft, slow kisses, making love, roses, deep hugs and the most classic, occasional compliments. He tries to be classic and original but in like a unique way? Getting a rose but only one and buying them in different colors with their meanings written on a small card. (leaving it in your room before he leaves for a mission and can't say goodbye) Maybe like the candles you made together rather than the perfectly shaped, store-bought ones everyone uses when he's trying to be a bit more intimate. He's a god damn sweetheart most of the time TT

S- Support: Do they support their s/o and believe in them? Assisting them in achieving their goals?

Yeah, I mean to him whatever you do that would make you worried ab others opinions, to him it's like 'I support you but at the same time it's none of my business because it's not my life' kinda thing. If he thinks it's a bad idea, he'll tell you but back you up no matter what. Like he almost has no opinion at all. If it requires his help, then he'll think about whether he agrees with it in the first place and if he does, he'll help you but otherwise no because he doesn't want to stand by something he doesn't believe in and put attention/time and what not into it. If it’s a general life problem/issue, he’ll always assist you and ask you if he can get involved and help you.

T- Thrill: Do they need to try new things to spice things up? Do they get bored or always enjoy the same stuff?

He will always love the same shit honestly. Like if you want to try something new in a certain aspect of the relationship he'll usually agree to try it depending on what it is but he has never once gotten bored of doing/saying, etc. the same stuff. He can't get enough of you and everything always feels perfect— like he's experiencing it for the first time because he knows how to appreciate you.

U- Understanding: How well do they know their partner? Are they empathetic?

Again, at first he doesn't know what your feeling unless he pays attention. If he's paying good attention in general at the moment, he'll immediately notice and if/when you're alone, he'll let you know his ears are tuned and listening for you, after a long while of comfort. Don't want to talk about it? So be it, that's perfectly okay because he knows how it feels. He's very empathetic and usually understands on a personal level how you're feeling and/or what you’re going through. Cloud is very serious when it comes to comfort/emotions and mental health and doesn't ever joke about it. You always have someone to relate to. Always :)

V- Video AND Value: How are they on film? Do they let their s/o film them? How valuable is the relationship to them?

As for video, Cloud doesn't exactly stop you from filming him… he’ll complain a little (especially if he’s in a serious mood) but anyone else? No chance. When you film him, it’s just that he feels a bit stiff and awkward because he doesn't know what to do. If your just filming to vlog or capture a small moment to look back on he'll be friendly and only really talk if he's talked to or has something to bring up. Since you're being silly, he feels more relaxed and can act normal, maybe even comfortable in front of the camera over time. (In a modern au) He falls for honestly most tik tok pranks/challenges, though there are ones where you can’t get him— though eventually he expects them or sometimes suspects you're joking around. Videos like pregnancy, miscarriage, death or breakup pranks? Not funny and not okay, don't do it. You know better anyways, if you’re in a relationship with him. Pulling pranks like those can easily result in arguments and/or Cloud being very upset with you for a few days.

As for value- you're his number one and although he hates to admit it, saving the world has to tie with you. If he saves the world, he saves you and a future with you. So practically everything is done for you in one way or another. And if not, he’s thinking about how his decisions may affect you.

W- Wild Card: A random fluff head cannon!

Y- Yearning: How long can they go w/o seeing their partner? How do they cope with loneliness when away from their s/o?

Again, this is normal but after more than a week, he gets real anxious and antsy and scared and nervous and quiet and sad and misses you and AHHHH don't leave him alone for too long pls he misses you :( has a little bit of separation anxiety but will hold a pillow to try to replace your warmth? <:) but it never cuts it, sleeping alone fucking sucks. Probably can't go more than a month without seeing you without starting to actually not being able to sleep at night and losing his appetite. The one time he did go on a month long mission with Avalanche, you stayed behind because you were injured. Not only was he losing sleep with anxiety over your safety but after approximately three weeks, the gang noticed him not eating and they literally had to return early just because he wasn’t taking care of himself. It’s not like it’s a protest or anything, he knows he has to be there but his anxiety is worse than just a little hunger after a few weeks. And when Avalanche tells him to eat and sleep more, he insists he just doesn’t want to. It’s when they notice the deep bags under his eyes and his thinning frame that they return. He does not object by any means, he’s ready before anyone else. When he returns, he spends all of his time with you and can’t keep his hands to himself ✋

Z- Zeal: Are they willing to go to great lenghts for the relationship? If so, what kind of?

He would do anything for you, he'd die for you, kill for you, lie for you, cry for you. You literally are Cloud's everything so it's only natural the best deserves the best. You would do the same for him, though you’ll never tell him that.

hey i finally watched the evil dead. it was pretty good. b (the b is a thumbs up because i dont have emojis on my keyboard)

im glad you liked the evil dead! it's a funny series

my favorite movie is no question the very first evil dead movie from 1981. you asked why so i put a massive set of paragraphs of incoherent rambling below

it's a very impressive and influential project for its haphazard budget and production (even if its sequel, which used the same shooting methods, is what popularized them) which is admirable. visually is just nice to look at imo- im no film buff or even the biggest movie fan overall so i can't say why it looks as good as it does to me, but it just does. it's gross and strange and erie and i enjoy that in its visuals.

what certainly shoots it to the number one spot for me though is the characterization, most especially of ash but really of everyone. i found the way everyone behaved and interacted especially realistic, and uniquely compelling for me. for horror, which is a genre that usually takes liberties with behavior for dramatic effect (not criticizing that), that's not particularly common

they don't always get along, but they're all clearly friends. characters are hesitant to resort to violence but simultaneously totally willing to defend themselves. panic drives people to make dumb decisions but no one ever makes decisions i would call totally senseless. it's all very much believable. all the characters display this but ash (understandably) depicts it all the best. i wish i could articulate it better than this but i can't lol

two particular scenes i like;

- ash is finally the last one left, and he's just in the house, surrounded on all sides by the dead and dying and demonic, and it's a charged scene, but it's not tense, because it's not supposed to be. you understand in that moment- both because of the structure of a film but also just bc it does a good job communicating it- that ash is physically safe from attack for a bit. no one's gonna pounce yet. that is because the demons are focusing on mentally attacking him. it's the demonic mocking scene, where all of these things puppeting his dead friends and family are just teasing him over and over like children while he takes the time to freak the fuck out, and they laugh and jeer. and idk i just really love that scene it's very VERY compelling to me. i think it's the strange sense of inexplicably physical safety (however short) combined with the childish demonic taunting; a lot of demons in media taunt but they tend to do so in more "ohhhh so scary" or overtly violent ways. the demons in this scene aren't not doing that exactly, it's just that it's way more deliberately annoying and childish in its execution rather than super spooky, subtle, or esoteric

- the walls bleed scene (it's my pinned post rn). ash goes to get amo in the Evil Basement and the demons make a bunch of weird shit happen. why i like this scene is way less deep- it's a deliberately funny scene; goofy music is playing, it's got a lot of visually appealing shots, a comical amount of blood, and it does stuff that ties back into the "childish, goofy, but effective ways the demons torture ash" thing. also 21yo bruce campbell absolutely covered in bright red fake blood is hot i will not deny that

hey how do you get your characters to be Like That? I'm coming to a realization that I need to expand my cast in my original work and i'm not GREAT at character development. tips? tricks? black magic spells?

think about those freaks 24/7 LMAOOO

no just kidding. i have a few tips, i think.

the first one is to READ MORE!!! and NOT FANFICTION!!! sorry to everyone who is going to think im a pretentious asshole for saying that, but i mean you genuinely need to consume actual novels. i dont even mean trad published novels, go for indie if you really want. but you need to consume media that is not fanfiction, because it will teach you how to create characters without leaning on pre-made characteristics. we learn by imbibing new subjects, osmosis or whatever. the more you read, the better your writing, therefore your characterization, will be.

identify what characters you like IN those works of fiction and why you like them. i really loved rand al'thor from the wheel of time novels because he was The Chosen One who was fucking BAD at being the chosen one LMAOOO and i liked his boyishness (there is a reason Xavier is a redhead, thanks Rand).

secondly, think about what you like about real people!! everyone has quirks and intricacies that make them unique. for example my husband never sneezes once, he sneezes three times EVERY SINGLE TIME. without fail. i was just telling frontier last night how their undying love for their friends pets was the most endearing trait ever. think of these sorts of traits when you make a character, because it will make them feel more realistic. its not always enough to say "my oc likes coffee and cats!" you have to add in that they constantly leave the last little bit of coffee in every single cup, or that if they pass an alley a cat magically appears bc they simply attract those strange liminal creatures.

(side note one of my fave quirky not-on-page traits ive given xaviers character is that hes infertile. boys shooting blanks! there is no reason for me to have given him this other than the fact that the Hot and Popular guy having dead swimmers is hilarious to me)

giving your characters flaws is also A HUGE AND VERY IMPORTANT PART OF CHARACTER DESIGN. and when i say flaws they cant be "they're clumsy :(" or "they're just SO nice to everyone !" this is not a character flaw lol you need to make them occasionally mean. you need to let them have bad ideas and make mistakes. you need to put fears inside them that have them acting out in irrational ways. they have to say the wrong thing or do the wrong thing and then accordingly face the consequences for that.

i'm using one of @unknownangels oc's as an example (surprise) but Benji is a character with the very classic martyr-trope. except the way this is USUALLY played, is the way most people feel drawn to. which is that their oc is the big selfless hero, or the overly kind fawn character in a big scary world where kindness is their greatest strength and they win because they let themselves get hurt!!!! and then, after it all, they're praised for it. benji, my sweet little fucking idiot, tries to do that and gets torn to shreds for it because IT'S NOT A GOOD THING! IT IS BAD! IT IS SELFISH AND CRUEL TO HIS LOVED ONES!!! his relationship with his family fractures and he has to repair a friendship that he abandoned. THAT is a good example of CONSEQUENCES in writing.

also i can't lie, having a writing partner to bounce ideas off of has completely leveled up how well i design characters. they get built by two writers essentially, and the way they flesh out is even more in depth because of it.

i would say find a good friend or writing group to try and bounce your writing off of, but also be wary lol people on the internet are deeply insecure and jealous and that did not turn out great for me, except for perhaps with the above writer im mentioning.

and also, as shallow as it might sound, a pinterest board goes a long way. visuals for your characters can be a REALLY good place to start, and even to just get inspiration. i regularly go look at my own ocs pinterest boards just to get their vibe before writing them again. also, rereading my own writing and getting into their tone and character voice helps me continue to ensure they're consistent. because consistency is a huge key.

if you write your oc in a scenario where they go "actually i dont smoke weed very often lol" and then in the next thing you write they're a huge stoner, you see how that becomes confusing? consistency!!!

anyway, sorry if this is both long and not actually helpful, but i'm flattered you asked!!! writing is a very beautiful hobby that i love so much lmao i wish i had more people to discuss it with!

I've been rewatching s2 and I can honestly say it is the messiest season in the entire show. I suppose it's kind of understandable since a) the show was still kind of finding it's footing with expanding on characters and plotlines and b) the pandemic really changed a lot of plans. The messiest thing they did though was the entire storyline revolving around Gwyn and Owen.

As much as I liked Gwyn, I never got the feeling even when the season first aired that she was meant to stick around for good and rewatching has reinforced that for me. Considering we barely even got a mention of her on s1, it seems very strange that they would suddenly have her moving in with Owen in s2. I suspect that the real reason she was even brought in is bc both the actress who played Zoe and Liv Tyler decided to leave and bc heaven forbid Owen have one season without a love interest or at least some female character that he has sexual tension with, they decided to bring Gwyn in. I do like that they chose Lisa Edelstein bc her and Rob Lowe obviously have great chemistry and it's a really cool nod to their time on the West Wing. It's actually really cool bc if you watch their scenes in the West Wing, you can kind of imagine them as a young Owen and Gwyn when they first got together. But then they introduced the whole baby thing. And the whole surprise baby storyline has always been my most despised trope in any show bc it is so narratively lazy and 99% of the time adds absolutely nothing to the show. It certainly didn't add anything to this one. There was literally no reason to bring that in especially considering that the plan was pretty obviously to always have Gwn and Owen break up again.

All this storyline did was make both Gwyn and Owen look pretty bad as parents. I usually defend Owen quite a bit (and will continue to do so bc the hate this man gets is truly ridiculous) but I do understand why people were so upset with him in s2. The Owen we saw in s2 was almost unrecognizable than the one we saw in s1. The version we got in s3 was better than what we got in early s2. It's like he literally forgot that he had a son during that time. And the same goes for Gwyn too. Not once did either Gwyn or Owen think about how they were hurting their son with the way they were behaving. The storyline also made no sense from a realistic perspective. Gwyn would've been in her 50s in s2 and at the very least pre-menopausal yet somehow she gets accidentally pregnant? And then the same Gwyn who is shown to be very pragmatic and reasonable doesn't once consider the very large risk factors involved with pregnancy at such an advanced age? Not to mention how that would affect her career at that point in her life? Instead Owen is shown to be the one who's struggling with the idea. Tbh as much as I commend the show for usually dealing with sensitive topics really well, this whole storyline gave me some real "written by men who have no idea how women even work" vibes. It made zero sense to have the storyline at all considering they have Owen and Gwyn break up anyway.

It made even less sense after they decided to kill Gwyn off. And tbh I wasn't even surprised that they decided to do that bc like I said, it was pretty obvious that Gwyn was never meant to be brought into the show to begin with. Even when they brought her back in s3, it was obviously done to fuel Owen's s3 mid-life crisis. In fact, this point is literally stated by Mateo. As sad as her death was bc I did like Gwyn, at least it contributed something to the show itself as well as allow a deeper look into TK's character. The same can not be said for the baby storyline at all.

I know some people have been upset that we don't see or hear any mention of Jonah or Enzo and I do understand why. It does seem really weird. But at the same time, I'm actually not upset bc I never liked that whole storyline to begin with and I'm glad to just forget about it lol. Besides, I feel that the baby storyline is similar to the Iris storyline but in the opposite direction. As in, with Iris they may well have planned something for her in s2 but bc Liv Tyler left they decided to scrap those plans. That's understandable but then by bringing her back in s4, they ended up creating all these plotholes for the previous seasons. But ok, at least Iris's storyline contributed something and we got introduced to an interesting new character. As I said before, I would be down for seeing Iris again. But with the baby thing, it was created pretty obviously for the sole purpose of drama, it clearly wasn't all that popular even at the time and I think the writers probably regretted creating it to begin with. Not that they'd ever admit it since they couldn't even admit that the Iris storyline was not something that they'd been planning the whole time even though it's super obvious. It genuinely feels like they started regretting it very early on but bc it's a procedural show on cable TV didn't feel comfortable really taking the plunge to maybe find a way to get rid of the storyline in a realistic way (eg miscarriage or abortion) and so just ended up going along with it in the messiest way possible. Any mention we got of the baby pretty much from the beginning felt so forced. As if the writers kept thinking "oh shoot we brought this in and now we have to follow it through." But now they have no reason to do so and I suspect that they're perfectly happy to effectively retcon the whole thing and act like it never happened. And you know what? I'm not even upset about it. All things considered, retconning it actually makes more sense that having had it in the first place. At least, they're still including Gwyn and remembering her. To me, that matters more. I'm not gonna tell anybody else what to do but I feel like it might just be better to go with the flow and erase the baby thing from our minds for our own sanity. It's not like the show makes it hard.

Anyway, I just needed to get these thoughts out bc rewatching the first couple of seasons with the hindsight that we have now is truly an experience

sorry in advance if you've already answered a question like this but i just wanted to ask, how do you improve on drawing?? i think especially for things like coloring, shading, and lighting , its been difficult for me to be happy with how it looks because compared to the sketch (that i think already looks nice) the colors just seem sort of flat and muddy and i feel like i dont have a good grip on what colors to put where and how to make it look unflatt if that makes sense! just curious on maybe what kinds of practices and studying you do for this(if any))<33 obv you dont have to answer if you dont want to, and thank you for being one of my inspirations, love youu<33333

hihi!! for simply shading/lighting, i would suggest you only work in black and white until you're totally comfortable with developing values. why? marco bucci explains it really nicely in this video but basically if you have good values u can have absolutely garbage nonsense colors and it will still make sense aka when i did this lol:

i'm guessing you're more interested in colored artwork though since black and white drawings can't be "flat and muddy" bc theyre in grayscale lol. for coloring, this is so tough for me too so i thought about this for a day or so and i came up with 3 tips that might help^^ 1) getting colors directly from photo reference or color reference, 2) manually adding filters/color harmony, and 3) studying color theory

i always work from photo reference so it informs a lot of my coloring/shading/lighting and often when i don't understand what color I'm looking at i directly just eye drop it and realize that what i thought was purple was actually just a gray-red. working from an actual picture helps make sure my colors don't look strange and while i used to think eye-dropping felt like "cheating" when i worked digitally honestly i've learned a lot from it and honestly if i stare at a color long enough i can get it pretty accurately now but i'm just too lazy so eye-dropping just speeds up my workflow (plus i hate digital color pickers anyways they r not built for artists and i wrote an entire paper on it in college once lmao) anyways here's an example of a color study i did by directly eye-dropping from a gif with @quokki's incredible coloring (love u ale <3)

if you're not working from a picture directly, you can still use other pictures or artwork as a "color reference" which I used to do a lot. i like to look at art from other ppl with pretty colors and create a color palette to use in my own drawings. for example, the color palette for this felix painting came from a piece (idr which) by Simón Prades on instagram but this palette is really easy to use since it's linear values it's like working in black and white but comes out looking cooler LOL

Recently for my lee know kiki's delivery service drawing i felt that the colors seemed a little flat n muddy to me because it was in an animated flat coloring style (lol) so I added a filter layer (just a flat apricot color set to overlay at 25% on photoshop) that livened up the whole thing and made it feel more cohesive. It's a pretty subtle difference to other people but made a world of difference to me :) it helped take the muddiness out of the shadows of his face and the glass reflection and took the painting from gloomy rainy day with stale bread to warm sunny day with fresh bread :]

and finally if u are interested in actually studying colors and lighting and shading and stuff these r some of the youtube videos and channels that i think do a great job explaining these very cool concepts:

pre-realism vs post-realism is a cool video about the difference between the mentality of how beginners draw vs how experts draw and kinda blew my mind tbh i think the big color takeaway from this video is that something that kids would color (like green grass) might actually be a totally different color to an artist's eye (dark yellow, red gray, even a super desaturated purple) depending on a realistic lighting situation

nathan fowkes did a 3-part guest talk series on understanding color temperature and relationships: (1) (2) (3) also not coloring but i love his video on value massing

this lecture on what charles bernard calls "the mother color principle" takes the "filtering" tip that i mentioned earlier to a much more developed level (it's an hour long so just skip through it.. u get the gist of what he's saying in a few min but the whole demo is also cool too)

i mentioned him earlier but marco bucci has many 10 min digestable videos about color on his channel that i like :) (also this lighting/value video is great too)

Thirteen Era Rewatch: The Ghost Monument

I'm re-watching Thirteen's era in lead up to the Centenary and since this is likely going to be my last full re-watch for a while I thought I'd do a post on each ep where I just go over all the things I love, hate or just have some general thoughts on. I've tried to keep this organised but it's a bit ramble-y.

Is it a bit of a coincidence that the Doctor and co happened to end up in a place where there were people to rescue them? Yes. Do I care? Not really.

The way Epzo shoves Yaz even though she was barely in his way ???

The Doctor’s vibe in this ep is once again chef’s kiss. And I love how done she is with Epzo.

Also I’ve seen ppl, mainly a certain vid, mention how Epzo goes on about not caring too much or whatever but it’s like.. Yeah, and 13 makes a comment to him about it. It doesn’t just go unmentioned. Epzo acts that way on purpose.

I like the fam’s reaction to being on an alien planet for the first time tbh. They have moments throughout the ep where they’re like wow, this is strange but then they get on with what they need to be doing. It feels realistic and also imo shows they’re strong people

I am once again reminding people that the shades 13 gives Graham are not THE shades she got from Hepburn/Pythagoras, they just REMIND HER of shades she got from Hepburn/Pythagoras.

I really like when 13 calls Ryan, Yaz and Graham her new best friends. It’s just cute innit

Graham kinda went off in this episode tbh. He has the range. One minute he’s making one liners, then he’s having a go, then he’s tryna have a serious chat with Ryan. Maybe I’m a Graham stan

The gang do low-key kinda just stand around during that long scene in the tent. The moments they do get are pretty good imo but they could probs have done with being given more stuff to say rather than it being all on the Doctor.

The Doctor’s face when she sees the TARDIS is the Ghost Monument

Ryan asking if they’re eligible too lmao I love him. And then at the end of the ep when he goes to touch the console. Don’t understand people who say Ryan has no personality. He has a lot going on tbh.

Graham trying to talk to Ryan about Grace and Ryan saying he talks about this stuff too much versus RotD where Ryan is the one who gets Thirteen to talk !!

Epzo’s story about his mum is low-key very dramatic like what was the reason.

The close ups when they’re on the boat are kinda disgusting tbh like why

Ryan going out to shoot the bots is a good scene imo. I think it’s good for showing that he don’t really know 13 yet and isn’t always going to blindly do what he says. Also it’s a fun scene. I don’t know or care if it’s unrealistic that he’d be a great shot.

Stenza mention felt low-key unnecessary, like they were trying to tie it into the first episode and almost imply a series long Stenza connection when we actually don’t see the Stenza again til 11.10 and even then it’s still only Tim.

I like the mentions of Ryan’s dyspraxia. I don’t think it needs to be a massive focus, the odd mention and acknowledgement that he is struggling to do some things is good imo

The Remnants weren’t really used that much but I think they’re kinda cool? Even if they are literally just rags lmao. Also shoutout to the Timeless Child mention. I like that scene a lot.

Surely that cigar could’ve been set off by literally anyone at any point if they clicked their fingers when they were close enough to it? I would’ve clicked my fingers just to piss Epzo off and then we’d all be dead bc we wouldn’t have the cigar for that Remnants scene

I’ve seen people cry about how 13 gives up at the end but it works for me tbh. I think bc she didn’t know how long it would take for the TARDIS to show up, or if it even would, and she knew they couldn’t survive for long, it makes sense for her to be like oh we’re fucked

Why does the Doctor say to the fam that she left the TARDIS a mess even though one minute before that she said to the TARDIS, ‘Oh, you’ve done yourself up.’ Did she think only the exterior had changed? That’s dumb

In terms of what we know about 13 and the fam I feel like this is also a pretty good ep? We see more of Ryan and Graham’s relationship, we see the Doctor needing reassurance and being kinda snippy, and Yaz talks about her family.

watching korean money heist and comparing it to og money heist under the cut

One of the first things I noticed is how it seems to be a lot more group focused, a lot more group scenes rather than having so much focus on tokyo and having all of them be separate? and how it seems the robbers like each other more as like, friends??? I've seen people say their characters are flatter and I agree but on the upside of that, Berlin is not a creep and Tokyo is a lot more likable so. I do miss og Nairobi and Moscu (and Denver, though korean Denver is very cute) because they were very very charming and rootable whereas I feel less attached to them (the Denver x Moscu dynamic is not hitting as hard for me as well?? it's hard to out-endear Paco Tous). Again, I think it's a mixture of the plot going faster and the downside of having more group scenes, because that means the individual relationships like Moscú and Denver or even the fun silly Nairobi and Mr Torres dynamic suffer :(

I don't know if this is a censorship thing or a choice that they made for this remake but there seems to be a lot less sex scenes or stuff related to sex which on the one hand, Berlin's rapist whole storyline doesn't happen as I mentioned which is nice, and it's less... annoyingly straight in some ways bc of this where in the og it was constant straight horny people (and being a bit homophobic as a joke, I don't the forget nairobi x tokyo dumb scene ) hvjcvhdkjsh BUT it is lessening the chemistry between Mónica and Denver on the downside and I don't know how to feel about korean Arturo just accusing korean Mónica of cheating before they get together? It felt more cathartic to have Mónica and Denver get together and then Arturo see it and seethe over it after what an asshole he'd been to her? (HOWEVER this might happen later, that and my favorite monica x denver scene bc it's on the ending of s1 which they haven't gotten to plotwise yet ! ) tbh korean Arturo is like... too much of a bad guy?? like I think spanish Arturo was a cowardly asshole in a way that felt realistic and you could see him still think he's a good person, but korean Arturo is a full blown super villain who fully gives her up not caring if she gets murdered and immediately thinks she's having sex with the robber and calls her a traitor and later tries to hit her. he doesn't seem like a real person. Another thing I'm very curious about is them dropping the abortion and then pregnancy storyline completely and having korean Mónica not be pregnant at all. I don't know why they changed that?? I guess it's not really important, I was never invested on the baby thing but it's just a strange change.

I'm very intrigued about it being set on a future where North Korea and South Korea have joined and whether they're going to go somewhere with that? because of course the whole Bella Ciao and professor's grandfather thing won't be a thing.

Another upside I forgot is that the ambassador's daughter is very cool and competent? I don't dislike og Allison per se, I think she gets a bit lost in the storyline at some point but I liked her evolution and I liked her scene with Nairobi, but it's interesting that this one is so competent and hasn't gotten in trouble at all so far. (she has now, as of ep finale but she's still. different)

Also korean denver is a baby, a himbo, a softie, even more so than og. Not complaining about that part at all. ( I love og denver as well though )

All in all I'm enjoying the show and am interested in it but I don't think the very emotional scenes that hit me hardest in the og will hit me (not just bc I know they'll happen). A fun watch though ! And generally the robbers are more likable and more like a cute found family. And korean Tokyo is my wife < 3333 she's so cute and is cold without being a complete asshole which is nice ! hoping for some bonding between her and nairobi in the future (this has now happened a bit nairobi x tokyo let's goo)

Hi again! "Not only the whole "IF A MERE FATHER-SON QUARREL IS ENOUGH TO DESTROY THE WORLD, THEN SO BE IT" ---> I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this sounded weird from Jin's part. I completely agree that was his T6 personality. I truly hope we see good Jin again in T8 because I can't deal with another character assassination. I totally understand what you say about Xiao and Alisa's interactions, at times it seemed like ok this is important for the plot but how much of it do we need? Is not that I don't enjoy these two characters (Xiao is one of my faves), but I think the writing was just plain bad and all over the place. I can’t even remember what was the whole point of them spending so much time together 💀. Other than fighting over Shin(?) And yeah, Jin didn't care about hurting her which, again, kind of strange when you see him being so protective of her in the past??? Like you can be an ass but you can also care about your friends. Tek writers said NAH he's an ass with *everyone* and gives no fucks! Imo, I think his design in Blood Vengeance is a little weird. He looks young and grown at the same time. His neck area throws me off lol

Really, it felt like Blood Vengeance didn't really know what it wanted to be. With the whole Alisa and Xiao thing - it felt like they just wanted a cutesy slice of life high school thing with the beloved cutesy girls of the series - especially with fuckin LEE being like a teacher at the school??? And... g... Ganryu being the principal or something??? IIRC??? Which I wouldn't have mind if they did just create a full on silly Slice of Life thing that meant nothing but only for fun. But it felt like they also thought, "well... this is Tekken. We can't just do THAT, people want ACTION, and they want the Mishimas fighting" so they just came up with a contrived plot to get that rolling, and just to get some forced fight scenes going. And it all just became a boring mess and had the viewer wondering why they're even watching it or what's even really the plot of the movie.

I ADORE Xiao - a lot tbh. And tbh, I also liked her much better in Blood Vengeance than the anime, Bloodline. Whenever I complain about Xiao's characterization in Bloodline - people get critical of me and say "well we can't have her be a naive bimbo school girl!! that would look bad!!" And I could get into why I don't agree with that statement itself but it's not just that I didn't like that Xiao wasn't nearly as bubbly/cutesy in Bloodline - it's other parts of her characterization I didn't care for. And Blood Vengeance did her better and I'll say how -

in Bloodline, Xiao was able to DEFEAT fuckin Nina Williams - all on her own. A 16 year old VS a trained assassin. And yes, Xiao is trained, too - but not to kill, I'm sure not as harshly, and also not as experienced. In Blood Vengeance, Xiao struggled against Anna. This is much more realistic. As Anna is quite similar to Nina - trained assassin, more experience, and all that. And many argue that Anna is supposed to be the inferior sister in terms of combat skills. So, it shows just how fierce these sisters are against Xiao (who's 18-19 now, but still) Now this might be nitpicky as hell - but the scene where Xiao "attacks" Jin when they're walking to (or from) school. I guess because she didn't like how injured he looked, and he wasn't talking to her? But it just felt like an example of trying to make Xiao just a "cool female character who takes no shit!11!!" trope. Just because in Blood Vengeance, XIao was a very soft person who understood ppl and never pushed them around just bc she got upset. And in the games, she was also very caring of Jin and wouldn't do that. (hell, in the Pachinkos - she's even very gentle with Devil Jin, going as far to softly touching his face - she only attacks him in self defense.) Anyways - my point is, even if it is just a mere joke and nothing more - it felt very out of character for Xiao, and very forced. And one last example is that Xiao actually showed way more emotion for Alisa's "death" in Blood Vengeance than she did for Jin's death in Bloodline LMAO. Like she screamed, but afterwards - she just sounded more... angry at Heihachi than anything. In Blood Vengeance, Xiao showed she was angry at both Jin and Kazuya for why Alisa had to die. But you could really see her tear up, and crying about Alisa - as well as being gentle with her, and holding her mutilated body. There was a lot more emotion that could pull at your heart strings with Xiao experiencing Alisa's death vs Xiao experiencing her best friend's (and potential crush)'s death.

So, whilst I'd still rather watch Bloodline even if I did think Xiao was a better character in it - because whilst it was boring to me, it wasn't as boring as Blood Vengeance was. Nor did it feel as contrived - it just suffered from expositions and stupid writing choices.

I think the whole fighting for Shin thing was actually just an elaborate plan by Heihachi to get Kazuya and Jin together so he can kill them both and take the power of the Devil Gene for himself, as well as get back the Mishima Zaibatsu. Yes, you see - Shin had an elaborate plan and was playing 4D chess, but Heihachi had an EVEN MORE elaborate plan and was playing 5D CHESS. The thing about Jin in Blood Vengeance is that sometimes he looked fine. But many times he did kinda resemble more of a teenager in the face than his game counterpart does. It's hard to explain, I guess he just looked... more baby-faced, meanwhile Jin in games is "rougher" in the face. I rly don't know how to explain it SDSGJNDFGN.

The thing about Jin being an "ass" before is that whenever he was standoffish to his friends - it wasn't because he's just a jerk, it's because he genuinely cared about them. He apologizes to Hwoarang if he felt he broke a promise they made - he showed concern to Xiao by telling her the tournament is dangerous, and told her to go home. (And in Xiao's TK4 ending, he told her to follow her dreams and make them a reality) Jin may seem cold, but he really shows that he cares for his friends (and his coldness is also just another way to care because he doesn't want them hurt by his dangerous life, or his devil - who wasn't even really in Blood Vengeance lmao)

A good example of just how awful his character has become is in TK6 when he says this to Hwoarang -

or in King of Fighters mobile crossover when he said this...

(annoying little brat - they're literally the same age lmao - nearly the same height iirc) When in TK5, when Hwoarang got offended, and suspected Jin thought he'd found a stronger opponent - which Jin is quick to deny this.

Instead, just telling Hwoarang the truth - life has gotten too busy for him and he can't keep his promise of a rematch (which Jin apologizes for that - twice.) Had this been the Jin in TK6 / other medias, he wouldn't have apologized nor would he have denied Hwoarang's claims. He would've mocked him here. But no - Jin doesn't here because not only does he care about Hwoarang, but because he was also a good person. (Altho not gonna give TK5 all the credit, as they did kinda kickstart TK6 Jin - but who knows if TK6 was actually really planned)

But yeah - I'm just really hoping we see the compassionate, and caring Jin who struggles with his morality instead of the jerk Jin who doesn't give a fuck about anyone else or the world for no reason. He definitely seemed to be better in TK7. Because again, whilst it's hard to really say as he wasn't really in it much. But there was Miguel's ending where he showed remorse, and even wanted Miguel to kill him. (Whereas in TK6 when Miguel confronts him, Jin says "I don't need forgiveness from someone who's about to die.) And whilst they kept his "power is everything" (🙄) and "you're a joke" animations - they did remove his "fear the wrath of god" as well as the smirk pre battle ones. And of course, his determination to kill Kazuya in the end of TK7 for what seems like the better good. So I do strongly believe in TK7, they were already trying to do damage control, and make Jin back to being Better. I just hope in TK8 we get the full on good guy Jin we've always known. The actual Jin, not the cheap Kazuya clone LOL.

Tho I'm also hoping TK8 retcons TK6. At least Jin's involvement in TK6 - so therefore there can be something that can excuse his behavior, and ppl can STFU about him being a villain. Either go with my idea that it wasn't Jin, but just Devil Jin who had completely consumed Jin at the time - and everything he said about "helping the world" was just his way of trying to manipulate good people into siding with him on the war. Or, as I've had someone on here tell me before - have it that Azazel just practically brainwashed Jin. (Similar to how Ogre brainwashed Nina in TK3)

I’ve been moving so I haven’t had time to sit and work on anything really which is unfortunate because school is starting up again ech

butttttttt anyway my self indulgent thoughts that have been sort-of keeping me afloat recently are the rumblings of a couple new ocs who i probably wont end up doing anything with as far as posting goes since the recent reception of my stuff in general just kinda depresses me more lmao but moving on. i keep thinking about my weirdo human oc and her yautja partner, and how they met at the end of a hunt when the bones had been collected and were being brought back to the ship. she's a bit of a weirdo who inadvertently just sort of flaked away from her old life. didn't really mesh with anyone, wasnt hated but wasnt cared about either so it was Whatever when she took off to live a bit more remotely to work closer to her art. i maintain she's a taxidermist by trade and idk if this is realistic or not but since its my fantasy and i choose the rules lmao she makes a decent living selling off her pieces. some are just straightforward rebuildings of the creatures she finds but most are weird and wonderful imaginative scenes & sets (think like,, the rat pope thing only Bigger and done better lmao).

so the bones are her thing and she finds herself trying to take home a bear or mountain lion or smth like that's body at the same time the yautja is. she's not a threat to him like. at all lmfao. just this skinny little bewildered thing looking up in shock when he materializes. the acceptance is,,, weirdly quick actually? like there's an element of wonder ofc but she's still like 'well. strange shit happens all the damn time why not this too.' and in a wild act of autopilot starts to ask him about the other trophies he's hanging onto. i think he would be slightly confused by this but also like. its oddly endearing lmao, just extremely earnest in her curiosity.

something something time passes and a real ~relationship~ starts up between them with every earth visit (she offers to display the trophies, which,, hmm, no, but he Does bring her carcasses specifically for her to work with separate from the trophies lmao) & he just thinks shes the greatest. like yes, very much odd, but still, she's fantastic. 10/10 listener, pretty funny, good looking as far as he can tell, there's really not much to dislike tbh. he's slightly confused about her chosen lifestyle though, bc as far as he knows the humans are also social creatures not unlike his own species and he just assumes that there must be other people in the area somewhere she spends time with, it doesnt make any sense otherwise that there wouldnt be, & she was just so open and social with him in spite of the fact that he wasnt human, surely some other people must be around to appreciate that too?

ofc thats when the conversation gets a bit awkward and she tries to think of someone to seem less pathetic in the eyes of the hunter who, for whatever godforsaken reason, thinks she's interesting enough to keep coming back here for. well, um, not exactly like that? i mean, i do talk to people sometimes. um. when i sell sculptures to them, or when i have to go food shopping. i think the video store clerk knows my name, probably? hahah um. yeah. & for the first time it finally clicks that there is 100% a reason she seems so excited whenever he drops by and gives her the time of day, even for a little bit. those several-week stretches between visits are more than likely very quiet for her, & are almost certainly void of any conversations deeper than asking if she wanted reusable or plastic bags. and she seems kinda :/ unhappy that this has come up conversationally too, bc in her mind now he knows that there must be something wrong with her if she isnt normal in that particular way, and she was kinda hoping to keep that hidden or at least severely downplayed, because he's not From Here; maybe he wouldnt know? maybe she could just pretend?

its not something he can just kill and fix, but maybe theres something he could offer. would she like to come with him for a bit? not long, just a couple weeks. see the stars & some new lands (he would probably pick places that had '''easy''' hunts to ensure she would have a ride back to earth lmao), a break in routine to take her mind off of things + give some sort of legitimate excuse for not being able to talk to anyone. its a weird + temporary solution but his heart is in the right place and you know as scared as i think she would be (space travel is a Lot) i think she would end up having fun. it Would be new and exciting and most importantly, she would not be experiencing it alone. i mean, yes, he's been to space hundreds of times before, its not new for him, but he sort of gets to re-live that initial wow emotion through someone else and tbh thats pretty special.

i have more probably on this but its late so :p thats all there is for now
