Can we talk about how crazy talented and skilled Chaeyeon is?
She started training/skating in the 5th grade (2017) but at the end of 5th grade her mother made her quit because she didn't see her getting anywhere (due to starting at a later age). She later convinced her mother to allow her to train again. She didn't compete in juniors when she was age eligible at 13 simply because she had only been skating for two years.
Her first international competition was the Asian Open in 2019 where she placed 1st in the Basic novice category.
In the 2021/22 season she made her ISU JGP debut placing 2nd/5th at her two assignments. In 2022/23 season she competed on the junior circuit for the second time whilst also doing half a senior season. She got 2nd/3rd on her assignments, with a 2nd place at Finlandia Trophy in between. Then ended the season with 3rd at the JGP final, 4th at 4CC, and 6th at her first worlds.
Her success continues now, at aged 17, in 2024. 1st/3rd in two Challenger events, 2nd/4th on her debut on the senior GP circuit, 2nd at 4CC, and now 3rd at her second worlds!

Does wtt work like the team event at the olympics (e.g. shoma would compete either sp or fs) or do all single skaters from the men/women compete both sp and fs? If it’s the former do you think shoma is more likely to compete the sp or the fs?
It's a team event but it's not working the same way as the Olympic Team Event.
Every competitor (singles and couples) skate both of their programs - SP/RD and FS/FD
They earn points based on placement for each segment. Also the scores of the SP ans FS are not added. So a skater earns individual points over the SP and FS. Means you could be 1st and get 12 point for the SP and place 5th and get 8 points for the FS.
The huge difference to Olympics is also TWO single skater for each men and women category are taken into account and only ONE ice dance couple and ONE pair. So there is an imbalance from the start as pairs and ice dance teams don't have the same value for the result as the single skaters, in other words it favors the countries with good single skaters aka Japan. (Even if now Japan does have a World Champion Pair, Japan didn't have good ice dance couples or pair skaters in the past, but still managed to win WTT titles bc of the single skaters. Imo Japan as the sole host country of this event and who even invented the event, also wanted a chance at gaining the title that is why there is an imbalance)
Because of the imbalance and well...quite some heavy overscoring through all disciplines...this competition isn't taken this seriously neither under skaters nor by fans. But you can still earn personal ISU best scores, so this is not exactly just a joke competition...let's say it's complicated and I am not sure anyone really knows how to value this 😅 Skaters also often try out stuff they wouldn't try in a normal competition. This is for example where Shoma tried 3A4T both times in 2019 and 2021.
Last WTT 2021 Shoma didn't have a good competition and ppl wrote him off afterwards and haters called his career over, well...they couldn't have been more wrong. Two time World Champion, GPF champion and 3 time Olympic medalists since then! 😁
Even when 2021 WTT isn't exactly fun memories, it's the last team competition Yuzu and Shoma did together and it gave dear memories 🥰

BTS Jimin is still gaining popularity not only in the pop music industry but also in the sports industry. Jimin's "Set Me Free Pt 2" was used as the background music for the taekwondo gymnastics team's taekwondo junior "K-Tiger" at Yongin University in the Taekwondo Junior 2-3 (domestic) finals on the third day of the 2023 Seongnam World Taekwondo Hanmadang on July 23.
“ Filter" and "Lie" from BTS' albums are also influential in the sports world and show off their popularity as genre-agnostic artists, including the 2021 Star-on-Ice and the second ISU Figure Junior Grand Prix in Ostrava, Czech Republic. “

Hello! I was wondering: does every figure skating competition offer prize money for their medalists?
Not every competition, but major ISU competitions such as the Junior/Senior Grand Prix, 4CC/European Championships, Junior/Senior World Championships, and World Team Trophy do. The top-ranked skaters in the Challenger Series after all the events are complete also get some prize money.
Here is the amount of prize money for these events, currency in US Dollars. Sources from the last event that was held. The prize money for pairs and dance teams is per team, not per skater. (Unfortunately, pairs and dance skaters end up getting less money than singles skaters do.)

It’s Pride month, so let’s celebrate some of our LGBT skaters!
While skating is stereotyped as a ‘gay sport’ for men in the US and Canada, homophobia, transphobia, and a strong push for conformity to old-fashioned gender norms remain a huge problem. But despite the bullying and disgusting comments, and even the ravages of the AIDS pandemic, queer skaters have been out there making their mark on the sport for decades, and there have been more out skaters at the elite level than can fit in one gifset (or even several!). And of course, there are many more at the recreational and adult levels as well. The skaters featured here are:
Jason Brown (2019 Worlds SP) - Beloved by fans for his skating skills, graceful and complex programs, flexibility, and ray of sunshine personality, Brown is the 2015 US champion and has finished in the top 10 at two Olympics eight years apart. After competitions, he visits Ronald McDonald houses to personally share the toys thrown at him with the kids or make meals for families. Rumor has it that the Greensboro Coliseum had to be shut down for repairs after he skated there in 2014 because the crowd blew the roof off the building in their excitement for his Riverdance.
Fleur Maxwell (2006 Olympics SP) - A 3-time Luxembourg national champion, and the only competitor from Luxembourg in any sport at the 2006 Olympic games, Maxwell’s international senior career spanned more than a decade, even excluding the three years she retired in the middle. With flexibility, lovely arms, and fast spins, she was a beautiful skater to watch. She now runs a fitness business out of New York City. The asteroid 255019 Fleurmaxwell was named in her honor.
Axel Médéric (1988 Olympics FS) - Médéric was a French national champion and one of the earliest black skaters to go to the Olympics when he competed there in 1988. While he sometimes struggled with his jumps, commentators praised the quality of his transitional movements and his flow over the ice, and he was a lively performer. After he retired, he toured and performed for many years, doing shows and competing in pro tournaments.
Ondrej Nepela (1973 Worlds FS) - The 1972 Olympic champion, 3-time World champion, and 5-time European champion, Nepela became interested in skating as a child in when he watched a fellow Czechoslovakian win the men’s European title on the television. While not the most artistically inclined, he was known for his precision and working very hard at practice. After retirement, he performed in shows and coached a student to become European champion in her own right. He died in 1989 due to complications of AIDS; the Ondrej Nepela Memorial competition is named in honor of him.
Kaitlyn Weaver (On Ice Perspectives solo) - With her partner Andrew Poje, she won three world medals and two GPF championships in ice dance. The team were known for their emotional skating and interesting, innovative programs. She came out in June 2021 and openly discussed how she was afraid that coming out while competing would hurt her and Poje’s scores. Since then, she has been one of several skaters consulted by the ISU on how to make skating more inclusive and is on Skate Canada’s working group for equality and inclusion.
Rachel Parsons (2017 GP Russia FD) - In the 2016-2017 season, Parsons, along with her brother, was the National, GPF, and World champion at the junior level in ice dance. As a team, they brought interesting positions and sense of ease to their skating. She retired in 2019 due to an eating disorder, which she recently said she has made a lot of progress in recovering from, and came out as bisexual a few months later.
Javier Raya (2016 Worlds SP) - Raya was the 2011 Spanish champion and a six-time national silver medalist. While he was still competing, he had a chance to work in media for summer sports and also did commentary for figure skating events. Raya came out as gay in 2016, and in June 2020, he started the Skate Proud project to share interviews with out and ally skaters. He is now working at the IOC with the mission of promoting inclusion and diversity.
Christoper Caluza (2021 Finlandia Trophy FS) - The 3-time Philippines national champion, Caluza first began with roller skating, before discovering ice skating when his local roller rink closed; he developed a graceful and emotional style. After the 2013-2014 season, he took a break from competitive skating for several years to do professional shows, including on cruise ships. He decided to return to competition when he learned that the Philippines would be hosting the South-East Asian Games, where he ended up winning the silver medal, before he retired again in 2022.
Timothy LeDuc (2022 USNats SP) - Two-time National champion and a 4CC silver medalist with their partner Ashley Cain, LeDuc was the first elite figure skater to come out as non-binary, as well as the first out non-binary athlete to compete at the Winter Olympics. Their programs emphasized the pair’s wonderful lines and synchronization, and LeDuc was open about wanting to portray a sense of equality between partners rather than the traditional ‘stem (man) and flower (women)’ image of pairs.

Thank you for responding to my question about Yuzu being underscored! I'm still not sure I understand 100% but you mentioned politicking which always confuses me so there we are :D I also just want to clarify about my statement RE the Olympics - I only mentioned it as I think I'd seen something about Yuzu changing his priority because he knew he was being underscored, so I think if he hadn't been consistently mistreated by the ISU that he likely wouldn't have gone for it, and would have then had cleaner skates as a result (I think he also fell on the 4s in both skates if I remember right?). Not trying to say he made the wrong decision, as tbh his 4a was REALLY exciting :D Also shout out to him for being the only skater who has made me cry while watching - his gala performance at the Olympics was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, I think.
I'm sorry that it confused you - the truth is skating is very much hand in hand with politics which sucks.
I'll try to clarify about Beijing.
First of all, he fell on the 4S only in the free. In the short program, there was a hole in the ice (pics exist with him going to the spot where the hole is, putting his fingers into it*, it's clearly a crater in the ice). His blade got caught in the ice and the take off was risky, so he chose to pop the 4S into a 1S instead of risking a shaky, possibly dangerous landing.
*I put a photo of that below the cut
I'll try to give a timeline of how Yuzu got to Beijing Olympics and why he chose the 4A. This is also with help of new info from Aoi Honoo III, the timeline is kind of this (I might have gotten some minor details wrong, if I did, please, people who know the right things, jump in the replies and correct me):
Yuzu won the 2018 Olympics, but didn't want to turn pro yet, he went for the 2018/2019 season
At that point, he knew he was being underscored, but wanted to skate for himself - that was what he stated as motivation at the start of the 2018/2019 season. But he competed and competed, got injured, recovered, got again underscored at 2019 Worlds.
The actual plan was to go for the 4A asap (a jump he had dreamt to do since he was a child). I don't remember if in 2018/2019 or 2019/2020 he had it put in the planning for his free skate layout, there is surely a video in which a piece of printed paper is shown with this info: 4A (4Lo / 4Lz). If Yuzu had gone for the 4A and ratified it, that would've been it.
Yuzu stated clearly he wasn't sure about Beijing, his one goal was the 4A. He struggled a lot in the 2019/2020 season - he did the 5 quads Origin at 2019 GPF and still wasn't enough
Not having landed the 4A at that point, Yuzu went on.
In 2021, he had to withdraw from the GP circuit because he had injured his ankle again practicing the 4A. The last stop should've been JNats 2021. Again, the 4A was not what he hoped for, he was chosen for the Olympic team.
Last chance, 2022 Beijing Olympics. No matter of how the short would've played out, Yuzu was determined to go for the 4A. Again, Yuzu stated that had he made that 4S in short, he would've still went for the 4A, but maybe he wouldn't have thrown himself into the practice of the 4A with the "at all costs" mindset. He might've been more careful. The reality is that he went in, got injured, and "were it another competition, [he] would've withdrawn from the free".
I'm not sure if there was ever talk about him saying he didn't want to win the 2022 Olympics, I know only that he went in for the 4A, maybe aiming to win with it, but his main goal was definitely the 4A.
In another recent interview, Yuzu revealed he skated with a painkiller shot because that made his ankle stiff, he wouldn't have been able to move it. So, Yuzu skated the free without a direct painkiller shot, his ankle was hurting (I think he still was on painkillers, but not a local painkiller shot). That's why he fell on the 4S in the free.
Sorry for the long post, again, but when it comes to Yuzu, I try to give all the info possible as accurately as possible.

JGP Austria ice dance -
youtube
Darya Grimm/Michail Savitskiy 🇩🇪GER (16/20 yo) they were 5th at the JGP Final last season and 6th in the RD at junior worlds but had to withdraw from the FD due to food poisoning. he was the engaging commentator for Nebelhorn Trophy last fall. their ISU bio hobbies are cherry pit spitting (her) and failure management (him), and their skating has personality as well 😊 he's been the stand out - lovely skater, strong partner - he draws your eye when you watch them. she was very young when they began, has lots of potential. her extension and free leg weren't quite matching his last season. their RD is to ELO, and they have a Habanera (so, Spanish themed?) FD. this is their 3rd and final junior season. the podium at worlds feels like an attainable goal for them
youtube
i wrote this before news of their accident 😢 we won't get to see them skate, but check out their previous programs if you like. hope she recovers stronger than ever and that we see them back this season
Angelina Kudryavtseva/Ilia Karankevich 🇨🇾CYP (17/19 yo) known for their creativity and flair, they had a cheerleader FD last season. every season they do something nobody else is doing (2021, 2019). i love their audacity and quirkiness - most of their programs have some surprise, their take on most styles has their stamp on it. they like no hands balance lifts where she's holding on by her heel or toe, or rotational lifts where she's spinning on top of his head. even in a lyrical program ⬆️ look. at. these. lifts! maybe not every novel thing works, but so often it does. they've been as high as 8th at junior worlds but tend to lose points on levels and twizzle errors. there are details of unison and control that they need to improve in order to move up. i'm sure they're aiming for top 5 in the world and want to make the JGPF. they're skating a Madonna RD and a Nights of Cabiria FD - if that's the Fellini film music, it's bright and jazzy but more in a characterful than cool way, 50s, kind of lush in places, and it’s the story that Sweet Charity is based on - am very interested to see what they came up with for their final junior FD
youtube
Elliana Peal/Ethan Peal 🇺🇸USA (16/19 yo) a sibling team, they've been as high as 3rd at US Nationals and have silver medals from Dallas and Lake Placid this season already. they're aiming for the worlds team for the US this season. they have a Janet Jackson RD ⬆️ and Lord of the Rings FD. they've always been coached by their dad, who went to jr worlds for US ice dance himself, but at Lake Placid, Igor was also at the boards for them although he's not officially on their team. they maybe lack speed but have good unison
youtube
Iryna Pidgaina/Artem Koval 🇺🇦UKR (14/19 yo) she looks more mature as a skater than her years, so they seem balanced as a team. last season was their first in int'l competition, and they had a 4th place at JGP Gdansk. this season they're skating George Benson and Pump Up the Jam for their RD, Robbie Williams and I Love Rock n' Roll for their FD, and Nazarova/Nikitin are 2 of their choreographers😭
dailymotion
Chloe Nguyen/Brendan Giang 🇨🇦CAN (18/20 yo) they're a newly formed team training with WIng/Lowe in Vancouver. both have been to the JGP with their previous partners. they won the Next Gen competition, have good fundamental skills, seem well matched and are off to a good start (they're at 1:09:30 ⬆️) i really hate their Aspects of Love FD music- it's from an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical that was a huge flop on Broadway. i'd dislike the music anyway, but what makes it worse is that the show, among a number of storylines, has 2 inappropriate relationships between an adult and a minor, and two of the songs in this FD are about those relationships. i don't know why their team would choose this for a junior program
youtube
Ashlie Slatter/Atl Ongay-Perez 🇬🇧GBR (14/16 yo) they are musical and have been vibrant performers since they were little. as their skating skills develop to catch up to their performance quality, they'll rise. levels in step sequences and patterns have been a challenge. but they have interesting choreo and i think? skate more in hold than a lot of teams. they were 18th at junior worlds in march. their RD is Run-DMC, and their FD is jazz, blues and Great Balls of Fire
youtube
Caroline Mullen/Brendan Mullen 🇺🇸 USA (17/19 yo) they had to sit out last season due to injury and also switched camps from WISA to Rockville with Dmitri Ilin but have been spending time at MIDA getting choreo as well. they have a bronze medal from Lake Placid this season, and this is their first JGP
Ambre Perrier Gianesini/Samuel Blanc Klaperman 🇫🇷 FRA (16/16 yo) this is their 2nd junior and 2nd JGP season. they medaled at some events last season and have nice qualities but also were prone to falls and twizzle errors. hopefully they got their nerves out and will have good outings here

Let's talk about Shoma...NHK edition...
Two 2nd places and Shoma is in the GPF. He had a much better free skate than at CoC. So it should be something to be happy about. But clearly I am not.
If you have seen my post from CoC you know that I am not upset about Shoma getting 2nd, I am upset about the way he got 2nd. Fight me on this but in any other tech panel of the season he would have a 195+ score for his skate, if not even 200. (And if you looked at the tech box it was 106 TES and that would have given him a 198 score even with those PCS) I don't want to speculate about any political games or anything, for now I simply want to believe Shoma was simply disliked by the tech panel ppl.
(And btw I like Yuma a lot and I am happy he is back! Iif one is winning over Shoma, I am happy if it's Yuma just not like this and this isn't Yuma's fault ofc, so nothing against Yuma.)
What's most sad about Shoma's silver today is that it made him question competing and his abilties. 😭😭😭
He felt good about his performance and then tech panel completely deflated all positive feelings. His comments are so defeated. Ofc he is Shoma so his reaction is still polite and everything and he smiled at Yuma and interacted like normal. But still this is a new low. He perfomed good, he did all combos, landed the 4F and Axels that he was insecure about in the practice, even yoloed a 4T which alone shows his superiority bc who else can do that??? And yet it wasn't enough for the fcking judges to give him high scores.
We all knew Shoma wasn't gonna skate forever and I always knew that it could very well be his last season, but his comments didn't sound so final, so I thought there was maybe a tiny bit hope he'd still continue. But today I am not even sure he will not retire after Nats. I have my doubt he would neglect the opportunity if he's selected for Worlds but if you'd ask him today he probably won't go. Pulling a Tatsuki Machida never seemed more real...and part of me wouldn't even mind. I would lie if I say I won't be sad about Shoma's retirement, but all I really want is him happy and if competing isn't making him happy anymore...better retire on own terms than the Jfed and ISU waving you goodbye by lowballing you...
I hope though that while his comments now are negative, that he will rethink the attitude bc it's not him who has reached a limit or who isn't capable of better scores, it's a fcking judging mishap. Keiji said his 4Loop was brilliant and rotation clean, Shoma himself said he was surprised about the 4Lo and 4T being called (as he could see his landing), Stephane shook his head at the score, no it's not your fault Shoma. And I hope he gets the prep talks of his life by his surroundings!
There are two ways this could lead to, Shoma being on the verve of retiring and motivation for competition is completely lost or Shoma is fired up and rebounds stronger than ever from this disappointment with new fire. As Shoma fans we have seen many ups and downs of Shoma and usually Shoma always came back stronger. Ppl saying that's the end for him after IdF 2019 -he went on to win JNats, ppl saying he is done at WTT 2021 proceeds to win an Olympic medal and World Gold 2022, let's see what happens now...atm a positive way seems impossible but after a few days the world may not seem as dark...
I am truly furious for his 2nd place and petty me who thought I could stand seeing Shoma in 2nd is now completely on skating gods pls let Shoma win all Gold medals from now on as perfect revenge arc 🔥🔥🔥

Berakar Lokal Bertumbuh Mandiri, IDEP Gelar Pekan Masyarakat Tangguh
Tumblr media
Laporan SOFI (The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World) tahun 2022 mencatat angka kelaparan penduduk dunia mencapai 828 juta orang di tahun 2021. (aar/bpn) Read the full article

Keunggulannya adalah waktu yang seringnya memang on time. Meskipun didera isu kebangkrutan, banyak masalah saat pandemi, dll, masyarakat umum masih memandang bhw Garuda still the best airplace service… Dan memang dibuktikan dalam ajang Skytrax World Airline Award 2021, Garuda menyabet penghargaan di tujuh kategori unggulan yaitu Top 15 World's Best Airline, Top 4 World's Best Airline Cabin Crew, Top 5 World's Best Airport Service, Top 20 World's Best First Class Airlines, Top 20 World's Best Business Class Airlines, Top 10 World's Best Economy Class Airlines, hingga Top 6 Best Airline Staff in Asia. Ahhhh I'm so sad that it's over. This was my first time watching the World Championship and I'm so glad I did. It was a brilliant week, there was a lot of talent on the ice and overall beautiful performances. And Happy Birthday to Anna!! My heart melted when Nathan brought out that cake!! It's a shame Yuzu wasn't able to keep his place in first, but at the same time Nate and Yuma skated so well and definitely deserved their medals. Congratulations to all of them!
