okay last post before i decide on what im going to do for the next couple hours but old lady crafting club is tomorrow and i don't have a crochet project decided on yet still fsdjkl

my options for continuing on WIPs are: dragonscale dice bag, isopod amigurumi, or a little stuffed pokeball

or if i want to start a new project instead of completing a WIP: strawberry hat i'm going to make for a friend, hand warmers/fingerless gloves, polar bear amigurumi, and idk if i have yarn for these (definitely not enough for a the second) but i also would like to make a junebug beetle amigurumi and a hood/scarf/hat combo garment thing

i dont currently plan to get more isopods but dreamy species (that are actually within reach. So none of those adorable spiky ones like shiny gators, ancient gators, thai spikies... Just absurdly expensive and hard to get) are uhhhh:

armadillidium cf espanyoli “marbelized”

(pic source) i just loooove the patterning its so pretty ive seen some really stunning ones in pictures too. theyre really tiny apparently. i already think my cappuccinos are tiny and theyre like twice the size of the marbles from what i can tell. itd be cool to have more Sizes u kno. these are the most tempting to me like if i was looking for another species to keep or if i had more room. itd definitely be these. great combo of beautiful pod and not so expensive or notoriously hard to work with or anything.

porcellio expansus “orange”

(pic source) theyre BIG fuckers!!!! not as big as hoffmanseggi but preddy big and very flat and i like their big exopods/uropods (?) (the funky tail things the guys have longer ones of) allso. isolated from the general porcellio expansus from spain which is sometimes calld the beetlejuice isopod and i have brain rot. They do have such cute little striped black and white antennae though, see? 

A strain like autumnal equinox is also tempting but..... idk 

cubaris sp “lemon blue”

(pic source) arent they stunning. ok so i want one of the yellowy ones i think theyre cute but it could be lemon blues it could be jupiters it could be some rendition of the bees. rubber bees, emperor bees, bumble bees.

armadillidium vulgare “gem mix”

(pic source) this is actually a really commonly available mix and was almost my first set before i got that absurd deal on my cappuccinos. I just love how rich and deep the colors are and they all complement each other so well. there are other mixes of other species like ‘lotto ticket’ and ‘party mix’ but the gem mix is so pretty to me

armadillidium nasatum “peach” - absurdly cute to me. such a pretty color and such nice markings. not SUPER up my alley in terms of what id want to keep but just so nice to look at. if i had space and saw a good deal. itd be tempting.

cubaris sp. “pak chong” - they are also. so cute. they were actually one of the other ones i was considering as my first isopods, the reptile store in my area has some (as well as that gem mix) but i had been worried they would be too hard to care for (and then i went for the theoretically Harder to care for cappuccinos anyway so i had to level up my isopod keeping really fast and early for those little thangs) anyway i like their little red face and butt.

venezillo parvus “kumquat” - maybe i just like the food names especially. bc i have cappuccinos and chocolate zebras at home. but also a lot of morphs have food names. They are just so so cute conglobated and they are teeny tinys. i like their coloration and markings. this section is kind of repetitive now that i think about it

cubaris sp “white shark” - literally would be on the list but theyre just so tinys. idk why but them being tiny seems like a big L in this case but in other cases a species is tinys and im like. epic....

i think one of my isopods died last night :( he wasnt moving much yesterday but his legs still moved a bit, but he hasnt moved at all since last night so ... RIP little guy :(

hi cervical delving, was wondering if you think isopods are more comparable to cows or horses IF we were small enough to milk / ride them. their many pretty patterns remind me of both, honestly. but i dont know much about isopods. i like to imagine owning large fields of them and they also large, but i hate the thought of putting them through the industrial torture cows go through... i understand there is a more comparable cow beast that ants milk, but

in my bugs-as-vertebrate fauna understanding I see isopods as rodents actually; they’re incredibly prolific and numerous where they exist, can eat anything and have these nasty little gnawing mandibles that can cut through whatever they want. being small enough to ride an isopod would be like riding a giant rat & probably either would kick you off its back and then eat you, bones and all. I have seen hungry isopods tear into their molting brethren and fight one another to eat live beetle larvae. they have been known to bite holes into the tarantulas and centipedes people mistakenly cohabitate with them thinking the isopods will “clean up” the enclosure. as soon as the predator molts they’ll clean the enclosure really well. isopods are a menace

millipedes are probably more your speed and I could imagine a relatively peaceful millipede farm with a bunch of big spirobolids munching on a bale of old rotten wood. not sure what you’d milk them for other than benzoquinone defense fluid. or in the case of flat millipedes maybe bottling their cyanide gas for chemical reagents

to be honest with you, Woodlouse (pillbugs / roly-polys/rollie pollies) are actually a type of isopod! they are the only crustatuon to have completely adapted to spending its life on land which is honestly very fascinating!

tho they are commonly called bugs! which i suppose technically means i dont have to answer this ask but i will because again, people usually think they're bugs!

Woodlouse (Woodlice, plural) symbolize balance between once's self. they remind us to protect ourselves, to hide your true self from those who don't have the best intentions at mind. to set clear boundaries, have a protective "armor". they also remind you you embrace your truest self, to have confidence in who you are. to be free and childish and play! to me, these little guys are a sign to put yourself first. either because you're not taking care of yourself or letting someone roll you around! they also could be a sign that you're letting your inner child heal, but that's just me projecting i think ^^"

i know you also said that you've only seen a couple (one at a time) but i would also like to note that they do enjoy wet locations! so if you continue to see them in specific areas i would see if you might have a leak in your home, as much as i think seeing these little guys is adorable. they are harmless to humans but it's always important to keep safety in mind! so just be aware if more start to appear in your home 💕

ok ok ok. disclaimer i do not know how the power system in worm works yet. so this may all be rendered useless in. however many chapters it takes for me to get there. BUT. there are 2 options in my mind for how to define taylors powers and they are LOGIC and PERCEPTION. basically the way i see this going. until i learn more. taylors powers hinge for me at least on the definition of bug

im gonna talk about perception first bc i have more to say about logic. perception hinges on the definition of bug being the colloquial term and not the scientific term. taylor can control anything that people who arent in the field would look at and go "oh ew a bug" so that includes. worms! spiders! centipedes! isopods! stuff that is NOT insects and not even necessarily arthropods but look/behave similar . this allows for a LOT of leeway with fucking with the rules which i think would be SUPER fun !!!!! however i cannot escape my biology brain so

LOGIC !!!! this is the. assumption that her powers/powers in general follow some sort of scientific rules. i say scientific loosely bc this is ultimately a superhero setting which by definition is not logical BUT i like 2 think about it anyway. i said this before but my first assumption with the word bug would automatically be INSECTS, but we already know that shes not just limited to insects because of the spiders! so the next classification up the taxonomy chart that includes both arachnids and insects would be. arthropods. so maybe taylors powers are scientifically "she can control arthropods" WHCIH OPENS UP. A WHOLE NEW DOOR OF POSSIBILITIES THAT I AM SO INTO. if i dropped taylor into the ocean could she control shrimp and lobsters. what about horseshoe crabs. if i give her a giant isopod could she tell it what to do. i dont think we've seen her do anything with centipedes yet so can she actually control centipedes?!?!? (they are neither arachnids or insects they are their own separate thing)

they r little black and yellow spotted fuckers (scientific name) and they live in a little terrarium made out of a coffee pot!! like if you can imagine those coffee pots that come with drip coffee machines but full of dirt and moss and bugs. i haven't had them for too long like?? maybe a week but they are already so important to me and i love them and check in on them every day

since i've only had them for a little bit though they're still shy and i haven't had the chance to name them all fksjfkd but there are roughly like. ten of them... once they get used to me and i can see them all i will give them silly names. as of right now theres like one big one i am calling bok choy bc it likes it i guess but also i have only fed them bok choy (i like to regrow it from cuttings but w/ bok choy it will like Bolt (start growing flowers) so you have to pinch off the flowers and ive been feeding those+little leaves to them) so i think that's like. a moot point like we dont name all babies milk because thats the first thing they eat and they like it? i will revisit names later but they're probably going to all be veggie themed

but also i got them at likw. like ok so i wasn't expecting to be a Bug Father i went to an antique/vintage fest for my state But they also had artists and stuff there and there was a guy who made terrariums and like. i love plants (i have 3 plants living in the office i work at alone but i have More at home) and ive always wanted to build terrariums but i never got into it bc they seem so much more like Labor Intensive BUT this guy had like. cool terrariums and i was like "hey can i get that coffee pot one" because i 1. love coffee so much and 2. love plants and he was like "oh btw theres isopods in there. heres a care sheet and just like drop a piece of carrot in there once a week" and like. i was not sure if i was ready for fatherhood but like he was a local artist guy (support local artist guys!!!) and also i was w/ my friends and didnt want to hold us up bc i would've agonized over it for a while so i was like Yeah Thats Ok :) (but like in a way that would make anyone be like "r u sure?") so i ended up going home w a coffee pot full of dirt and bugs on like. a funny impulse purchase type thing. i barely even got any fun vintage things aside from like tje worlds scratchiest sweater but i Did get bugs and also we went out for pho afterwards which is like. best weekend ever really (i am lame)
