To the Filipinos messaging me today over the ongoing election results (and for the foreigners to be aware of our political situation),
I feel you — this is humiliating, painful, and devastating. A legacy of dictatorship back on the seat of power, over hundreds of reported bribery and cheating cases with evidence, an election committee with their own preferred people, actors and abusers over human rights lawyers, history forgotten and rewritten.
But let's never forget that we're on the right side of history. My first vote was for someone with the best possible credentials and character, along with a colorful senatorial team with great campaigns.
We'll grieve this time around, but let grief turn to anger and let anger turn to hope for a better future.
I'll always remember how every university banded together for her; how professionals and celebrities chose her and her team. I'll never forget the flash mobs singing peace hymns in malls, markets, and streets; the house-to-house campaigns where my friends ventured to the most unreachable places; the sports games where everyone wore pink instead of their school colors; the crowded rallies where food and water were passed around, and not a single wallet was stolen.
We turned a political campaign into a movement for change and love — and I'll always be proud of that. We made the right choices. We did what we can. That, in itself, shows promise for our future.
For brighter futures, laban lang, Pilipinas! fighting! 💗

it's Cain here. i'm back for a bit.
to the Filipinos, to my Filipino followers.
i know. i know it's hard. it's difficult to see the partial count results. it's okay to cry, it's okay to feel angry, it's okay to feel sad, it's okay to feel hopeless.
i'm here. your Kuya/Ading Cain is here. i'm sad, angry, and devastated too. grabe, nakakaiyak. i'm in the restroom crying because i can't let my family see just how affected i am. (they're that kind of Asian family.)
things will definitely change after this month. and it might become difficult to adjust, and to let everything sink in.
but there's still hope. the official count is starting, and we can still call the odd things out. we have our voices, and we can use them. let's speak up for what's right.
to the adings, the youth of the Philippines:
i am so proud of you.
you showed that you truly are the hope of the nation. you are wonderful kids, and you all stood up for what's right, for change. change for the better.

Eleksyon 2022!
Call me crazy, but I cried a little when I read my voting receipt. This is how it feels pala! Voting for someone you actually believe in. What a foreign concept. I feel like I have been drifting through life turning up in my precinct (and my old grade school) every few years to vote the lesser evil, until someone actually fit to be president came along.
What a roller coaster. Hindi man ako pumunta sa rallies (mga Takot sa Tao for Leni), it still feels good to be part of a revolution, a part of history. Highs: the spirit of volunteerism palpable, seeing an organic support base quadruple before your very eyes. Lows: unfriending people, especially close friends you no longer see eye to eye with. This campaign period is like no other, it's history in the making, and there is no one else who has inspired this kind of difference, this hunger for truth and real change (not the fake one that the older Duterte sold to 16 million Filipinos in 2016), than a widow from Naga.
The las time I prayed this fervently, my grandfather was on his deathbed. Last night I was wide awake, for the first time since becoming a voter in 2009 excited to come to the polls, and I whispered a disclaimer to God "Ok I know I have not prayed in a while..." I'm no longer religious, but I still believe, and I cannot imagine a world where a righteous God would allow a prayerful country go through another Marcos in power. The Philippines is waking from its stupor. Hope springs.

00 POLITICS : Break Until May 10, 2022
This is something really important to me 😙
Taking a Genshin break in favor of the ending election season for my country (I'll still post shorts and brainrots but the pre-election anxiety is real!)
I've mentioned this a few times that I utilize all my socmed platforms when it comes to advocating social issues, Tumblr is no different (as much as I want to make it my happy place 🥲) this has to be the pinnacle of my digital advocacy life.
In a few days, the nation will be choosing between a dictator's son and an active woman leader. This doesn't seem like a hard choice at all, except, the tides are turned against us.
I am a Leni-Kiko supporter, and I also believe that several of the senators under their party are qualified leaders who believe in human rights and compassion.
So please, if you are a Filipino, if you have Filipino friends, or you know an eligible voter in the Philippines, take the time read through some of my upcoming posts! I'll make sure to make them short and entertaining without the anxiety politics gives :)
And if you're a foreigner, you're even more welcomed! Awareness is important!

hoping for a clean and honest election; may we elect someone with a clean record, someone with well-researched plans and concrete platforms, someone who's able to answer the hardest questions well and has proven her worth and ability through her actions and already mobilized projects; everything shall be decided today so let us vote wisely, look and read the facts, reliable news sources and of course the accounts of history they keep on telling us to forget.

Dun tayo sa malinis ang record.
Dun tayo sa ready humarap at sumagot sa mahihirap na tanong.
Hindi biro ang maging presidente.
Dun tayo sa may mas malawak na experience.
Dun tayo sa may malinaw na plano hindi puro unity lang, hindi niyan mapapakain ang nagugutom na kababayan.
Mas ok nang "lugaw" kaysa magnanakaw.
NEVER FORGET.
The son maybe different from the father but the son has the power to make it right this time but the lies continue. Victims of martial law are being denied. Wala daw ninanakaw. Huy! May kaso na pong nasampa laban sa inyo. Golden years? Yung mama ko, mga tito at tita ko po buhay na nung '70s pero ni isa walang nakaramdam nung "golden years". Karamihan sa kanila nasa EDSA for the People Power Revolution.
'Wag mo kaming paikut-ikutin. We Filipinos deserve better!
Sorry for the rant, but it's scary to think that an inexperienced candidate but an experienced liar (Hi Sir BBM!) with a questionable running mate and a senatorial slate filled with people with tainted reputations as public officials, can be sitting in our country's highest position. Ano na Pilipinas? Ayaw na ba nating makabangon? Marcos ulit? Jinggoy ulit? Robin Padilla? Jusko. Gadon? Another Duterte? Di pa ba tayo natuto? Daming casualties nitong pandemic. Nakita na natin na lack of experience, corrupt and egotistic leaders can do nothing good for the country. Sila na naman? We need clean and honest governance, someone who's willing to show the receipts. Yung sweldo natin ang laki nang kaltas na tax, tax na napuputa sa gobyerno para magawa nila yung dapat nilang gawin para maserbisyohan ang mga Pilipino pero napupunta lang sa pansiriling interes ng mga pulitiko. Kailangan natin nang pagbabago and it starts with choosing a good leader. Hindi lang puro salita pero may gawa din. Complete package dapat.

P.S. Ranted here since all my FB friends except one are already passionately for Leni and Kiko. This just goes for all those faceless BBM supporters I randomly see in shared posts of friends and those I hear on tv. Just need to let this out as anxiety is beginning to rise up again.

THE PINK MOVEMENT

Kamusta? Been a while! I know that the 2022 election is over and this might be late but I just gathered all my energy to post this long planned post that I kept on postponing because either I do not have the enough time or I am still trying to find the right words to use.
To share, it took me more than 2 weeks to come up on how to go about this post. I have to make myself embrace the mixed emotions of anger, disappointment, tiredness, denial, understanding and so on, so I can come up with a better headspace.
Despite having a week after the election, I am still trying to figure out what to feel, what to say or heck, even on what stage of grief I am now. But before I discussed my “post-election” emotion, allow me to take you to the start. On how this People’s campaign or Pink journey started. Or at least, my journey on being a proud Kakampink
If you happen to know me or you’re one of my social media ‘friend’, you know for sure that I am a critic. I voiced out the wrongdoings of the government and call them our for their injustice. I feel like being silent is a guilt and I do not differ to those who's taking advantage.
I remember getting a question from one clever friend who I will vote if in case. I said I don't know yet. As there is no official candidates yet, I said I don't know. Then she mentioned the daughter of the current President we have. She bring up Leni too. She said she heard news about her but VP Leni doesn't have an impact for her. In my mind, "Ghad- Not another Du🐢".
Throwback to 2021, I’ve been researching, silently reading the possible Presidential runners for the upcoming 2022 election. I realized we're all ignoring VP Leni Robredo. It is no secret for me how she managed her job so well despite short to no budget at all. How she act quickly during pandemic. I can go on for hours on the achievement and actions she and her team have done. So, when she declared her decision to run, I am one of who's celebrating. I remember putting a plain pink photo on my IG stories. Letting everyone who can see who I will vote for.
I may need to post another story on what she have done or what is Angat Buhay program because that’s a whole long topic. But if you are one of us, you know. Among all the final candidates, she is the most deserving.
Fast forward to 2022. What I thought of the few, is actually a millions. This even brought me, my sisters and our cousins closer too! To be a part and be involved on the rallies, the house to house campaign, the solidarity walk, the miting de avance - is something that is embedded to my heart forever. The glimpse of hope that is getting bigger and louder as May 9 is getting closer. To see the what they called modern bayanihan, to witness the generosity of every stranger, them lending a hand, the genuine smiles, the different faces of hope, chanting, feeling empowered because finally, and hopefully, there’s a change. I will forever be proud. Habang buhay! ♡
(Next few post is about the different event I attended. This letter is a reminder that for some time, may kasama akong 14 million na lumaban para sa’yo, Inang Bayan.)
