To the Filipinos messaging me today over the ongoing election results (and for the foreigners to be aware of our political situation),
I feel you — this is humiliating, painful, and devastating. A legacy of dictatorship back on the seat of power, over hundreds of reported bribery and cheating cases with evidence, an election committee with their own preferred people, actors and abusers over human rights lawyers, history forgotten and rewritten.
But let's never forget that we're on the right side of history. My first vote was for someone with the best possible credentials and character, along with a colorful senatorial team with great campaigns.
We'll grieve this time around, but let grief turn to anger and let anger turn to hope for a better future.
I'll always remember how every university banded together for her; how professionals and celebrities chose her and her team. I'll never forget the flash mobs singing peace hymns in malls, markets, and streets; the house-to-house campaigns where my friends ventured to the most unreachable places; the sports games where everyone wore pink instead of their school colors; the crowded rallies where food and water were passed around, and not a single wallet was stolen.
We turned a political campaign into a movement for change and love — and I'll always be proud of that. We made the right choices. We did what we can. That, in itself, shows promise for our future.
For brighter futures, laban lang, Pilipinas! fighting! 💗

i have never been proud to be a Filipino.
There are flashes of pride, sure, when Hidilyn Diaz won the Olympic gold for one. When I listen to our indigenous groups’ songs, when I dive into the waters of Coron, Palawan.
When I read about the historic EDSA I movement that ousted Marcos from power after decades of killing the country. But now? I have never felt so ashamed, so angry. It’s a suffering, being a Filipino under the son of the dictator we ousted not half a century ago. It’s a suffering - watching an actor take top spot in the senatorial race and a lawyer not even getting into the Magic 12.  I’m exhausted. Ashamed. And done.  I’ll be fine - relatively. Middle class girl, with more or less the capacity to migrate. But shit, man, that’s another thing -- who tf wants to be a second-class citizen in white countries?  I don’t know. i don’t know.

Don't Lose Hope.
After watching our candidate, her team, and supporters put all their work, effort, time, money, and tears into the 2022 Elections, it feels like a dark shadow has been cast on our country again and there's nothing we can do about it.
I'm so sorry to the families who were victimized by the Marcoses. I'm so sorry to those who died trying to stop a ruthless and corrupt dictator, only for his son to wind up as President of our poor and starving country. I'm sorry to victims of the Marcos family, to those victims whose bodies were found and those whose bodies are lost in a place that their loved ones cannot find. I'm sorry to those who witnessed Martial Law and celebrated when Ferdinand Marcos was ousted, thinking their children won't have to suffer the way the Filipinos did in the 70s-80s. I'm sorry to those in lower socioeconomic status families who voted for Leni with hopes that she would be able to bring about change as our President. I'm sorry to everyone who hoped for a better future, only for evil to prevail.
Our hearts ache. Today, I watched my 81 year old grandfather sit on his own in a depressed mood because he couldn't believe that after doing his part in history by joining the EDSA revolution and voting on May 9, he was watching history repeat itself. He is too old to worry...but he worries because he cares the future of his family and country when he is gone.
But this is only the beginning. Before things will get better, they will get worse. But things can still get better. We cannot lose hope, because that's exactly what our corrupt government wants.
If you are lucky enough to be in class A and B, please do your part to help the less fortunate. We will suffer, but we will not suffer as gravely as those who live hand to mouth on a daily basis. It is easy to think that they might deserve it because they were the bulk of the voters who supported the Marcos family's return. But the truth is that their return has been carefully prepared for, for decades. Fake news, vote buying, poll manipulation, cronyism, corruption, political dynasties. The real evil lies in those with power and privilege who are educated enough to know better but choose not to do better. There is a reason why education is normally given the smallest budget, because these corrupt politicians benefit from the less fortunate's ignorance and miseducation.
The day will come when we are called to rally again and fight for our freedom. Until then, do not lose hope and do not forget to act as the miracle in other people's lives. The evilness of our government should not push us to tolerate and enable such behavior or worse, be as uncaring and without compassion as they are. Our country can be better if we continue to push ourselves to be better and demand our government to be better.
God bless you guys. To the non-Filipinos, please pray for our country or help spread the news about what is happening to us. We really need it.

PLEASE SUPPORT FILIPINO ARTISTS!
This is going to be a bit of a read but I’m going to try to keep it as concise as possible.
The Philippines just held elections yesterday, and it’s getting really messy over here because of the current unofficial count showing Bongbong Marcos, the son of a previous dictator, in the lead for presidency. I’m not going to get into the details of the politics, and I don’t want to make this about the candidates, but essentially a lot of investors are pulling out of the country and PH stocks are falling. This has led to a rumor that PayPal will be shutting down in the Philippines (likely because of what happened in Russia), but there is little to no real basis for the claim, especially since the situation is quite different from Ukraine.
However, news, no matter how credible, spreads fast on social media. A lot of PH artists are the sole source of income for their families and rely a lot on commissions from international clients via PayPal, and while it is highly unlikely that the service will become unavailable here, they have every right to be worried.
Another issue is that because of the news surrounding the election, a lot of clients from overseas are backing out of commissions simply because the artist they were working with is Filipino. I’ve seen posts where clients say that it’s “too risky” to commission someone from the PH, even though they have no ties to politics or for some, aren’t even of voting age. It’s likely that the whole PayPal situation is a reason as well.
All of the things happening in the Philippines is NOT the fault of anyone but the corrupt government officials. So if you’ve been looking for someone to commission, please look into filipino artists!
A lot of them are on Twitter and Instagram as far as I know, and you can probably find a few easily by just searching! I’ve also linked support threads here and here that have a lot of people in the replies.
PH artists on tumblr feel free to promo yourself however you like under this post too!
I have all of like 350 followers on here, so I don’t know how many people I can reach with this, but hopefully this can help out a bit…

In 1986, the dictator Ferdinand Marcos was ousted from the Philippine presidency in the People Power Revolution. He and his family fled the country and were exiled to Hawaii. 36 years later, his eldest son is elected president in one of the dirtiest elections in our history, with countless reports of broken vote-counting machines, torn ballots, pre-shaded ballots, and election day violence that even resulted in deaths.
To this day, his family continues to deny the human rights violations committed under his father’s martial law, and refuse to return their billions of stolen wealth. They have invested into a decades-long campaign to distort history and restore the reputation of their patriarch’s regime, claiming that under Ferdinand Marcos the Philippines had experienced a “golden era”, and in doing so, they have successfully scammed their way back into Malacañang (the presidential seat of power equivalent to the White House).

! Important !
Hello this is not something I usually post here but please help me spread awareness. If you don't know what's happening in the art community in my country (the Philippines) let me show you this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Currently Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. commonly known as Bongbong Marcos/BBM is leading the presidential race. BBM is the son of Ferdinand Marcos (the 10th president of the PH) he was known for his corruption and brutality.
Because of this many foreign clients are cancelling art commission from Filo artists (with some claiming they "don't want to support someone who supports a dictator")
I just want to make it clear that not all of us voted for him and not all of us supports him. Many Filipinos are grieving right now because they don't want the Marcoses to rule the PH again.
I don't do commissions but I have friends who do and I can see how people cancelling greatly affects them. Most of these artist rely on art to earn. Most Filo artist also rely on foreign commissions since the value of art here is dirt cheap.
Please support us. Please don't make assumptions and cancel a commission without hearing the artist's side first.
If you're a filo artist please feel free to share your commissions.
I'm sorry for posting too much about the elections here but I really don't know what to do anymore.

We only have a week left before election day in Philippines. If you are a Filipino and a registered voter, please dedicate your time to do research on who to vote for. Our economy is in the hands of our future president for the coming years. This shouldn’t be about your personal interest, this is about the lives of 112 million Filipinos.
Look at their accomplishments, have they kept their promises as a public servant in the past? Their track records, achievements and educational attainment are one of the factors that can qualify a President, not their “surnames”. Are they corrupt? Do they pay their taxes? It’s not too late to change your mind. Vote wisely.

HELP THE YOUTH STAY EDUCATED ABOUT THE MARCOS DICTATORSHIP
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pre-order these books here.
With Sara Duterte as Vice President and now Secretary of Education, we must prepare for the likelihood of historical revisionism in the youth's education, which first started when corrupt Dictator Ferdinand Marcos' body was allowed to be transferred to Libingan ng Mga Bayani (Cemetary of Heroes) despite the protests of thousands of Filipinos.
"presumptive vice president Sara Duterte-Carpio on Thursday said the Philippines needs a future generation of Filipinos who will advocate for “peace and discipline” in the communities."
The daughter of a man who killed thousands of people, and paved the way for the Marcos family to be accepted by Filipinos once more. She intends to do this under the leadership of Bong Bong Marcos, who has refused to apologize for the murders, tortures, sexual abuse, and theft that his family and cronies have committed.
Before they get their claws deeper into our education system, please try to buy any one of these books for your younger relatives or future children.
We cannot allow them to change history. We cannot lose hope. We must continue to fight for our country, even if it just means staying educated.
If you are not Filipino, please pass on the news about what is happening to our country. Help the world know what is happening to us, because this could happen to you.
