Son Of Hecate Part 2
(Yugioh GX/PJO HOO crossover, and now on A03 nice @strangevol part 2)
Part 1
"Hey, this the Hecate cabin?" Asked Judai, walking inside and seeing a girl sat in one of the living rooms. "Hm? Yeah, this is it. Are you a new camper?" She asked, seemingly studying him as she did so. Judai nodded "yup, just showed up and got claimed. I'm Judai. Judai Yuki" he greeted. "Judy?" She asked, Judai shook his head "Judai, Ju than Die" he explained.
She nodded, giving it a few tries before he grinned, she smiled "well nice to meet you, Judai. Welcome to the madness of Cabin 20, I am Lou Ellen Blackstone." Greeted Lou Ellen, Judai chuckled "so that means your also a child of Hecate and my sister?" He asked, trying to recall what Nico told him earlier. "Half sister but yeah pretty much." She explained.
Judai smiled "sweet, I've never had a sister before" he said sitting on one of the chairs. Lou Ellen chuckled, something told her she would like him a lot and it would be nice to have someone else living here. It didn't escape her that Judai looked to be around her age, and had been left unclaimed until now but she wasn't too surprised, perhaps their mother had tried to protect him and him being claimed earlier would've resulted in him entering the camp during the war.
'Especially given her...previous alliances' she thought. Judai, clueless of her thoughts was looking through the rucksack that Hecate had left him with when he had been sent of Olympus. He found with great relief that his dual disk and deck were all hidden safely inside as well as some of his clothes and...
"Pharaoh?!" Yelled Judai in surprise as Pharaoh the cat jumped out from the bag and onto his lap. "What are you doing in there?" He wondered, though he probably shouldn't have been surprised by his presence.
"Is that your cat?" Asked Lou Ellen, blinking in surprise as Pharaoh bounded over and curled up beside her. "Pharaoh the cat, Lou Ellen Blackstone. Lou Ellen Blackstone, Pharaoh the cat." Introduced Judai, shaking his head with a chuckle. "Weird name for your cat but hey little guy" she greeted, petting him. He purred, sprawling over the sofa.
"I've never heard of someone smuggling their pet to camp" she commented, petting Pharaoh as she did so. "That's Pharaoh for you, he was the pet of one of my teachers but he got attached to me. When I left he came with me, hasn't left my side since" explained Judai.
"Your teacher didn't have a problem with that?" Asked Lou Ellen, Judai shook his head "he passed away, the rest of the staff didn't know what to do with Pharaoh so they let me keep him." It was a more simpler of an explanation than explaining to her the true fate of his instructor, Pharaoh merely meowed as if that answered everything. Lou Ellen nodded slowly "sounds like a nice guy" she said and he nodded with a smile "yeah, he would've loved it here."
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Judai hummed to himself as he wandered around camp, he figured he should go and explore his new surroundings. Pharaoh had taken a nap on the sofa and Lou Ellen had left to go meet up with someone called Will Solace. 'Summer camp huh, don't remember those having lava walls' he thought, he felt Yubel chuckle inside of their mind. 'This coming from someone who's school had an active volcano right beside it' they teased. He sighed good naturedly, they had him their he couldn't really judge.
'What do you think of all this?' He asked, looking around at the different cabins 'that as much as I know you hate all this, this is our duty' they replied. Judai sighed, knowing they were right, but no one liked being kidnapped. 'Oh don't get me wrong...if it wasn't for them being our only ticket home and Lady Hecate, I would have gladly taught them a lesson or two'. That made him chuckle, sounded about right.
"Woah hey look out!"
Judai blinked, not even having time to look out before getting hit back by a jet of water. "Sorry, I wasn't aiming for you I swear. You alright?" Asked the camper, rushing over and helping Judai to his feet. "Yeah, it's fine" said Judai, wringing out his jacket before the water fell to the ground and he was completely dry.
"Woah" he marvelled, the other smiled "your the Hecate kid aren't ya? Nico mentioned you, I'm Percy Jackson...this is not how I wanted to meet you." Greeted Percy, Judai smiled "it's alright, accidents happen" he said dusting himself off. "Yeah, still getting the hang of that. Was aiming for Clarisse but, yeah went way off course" explained Percy. It was than Judai noticed that Percy had a sword, much like Nico had when they had met.
"Honestly Percy, Nico said greet him not soak him" said another camper walking over "hey I fixed it, see he's dry its all good." The girl rolled her eyes but their was a fondness to it. "You guys are Nico's friends?" Asked Judai, the girl nodded "we are, he mentioned you earlier and this place can be a lot for new demigods so we figured we'd say hi. I'm Annabeth, Annabeth Chase. It's nice to meet you, Judai" she greeted.
Percy blinked in surprise "wait that's your name?" Judai nodded "I'm learning that it isn't an easy one" Percy chuckled sheepishly "been calling you Jude in my head" he admitted. Judai snorted "seriously? Man I'm gonna have to start carrying it out in writing or something" he said, getting a laugh out of both of them.
"So why were you blasting water everywhere?" He asked, curiously. "Oh you know, sparring. Well it wasn't really a spar but she threw the first hit and yeah that's where it went." Explained Percy with a shrug, Judai blinked. "Spar? Like fighting each other?" Percy nodded "yeah, what did you think I was doing with this sword?" He teased, Judai shrugged "I dunno maybe you were some really dedicated theatre kid, That's what you guys do here, fight each other?" Annabeth smiled a little "well its more like training for fighting the monsters and stuff that exist out here." She explained.
"Wait monsters?!" Asked Judai, fighting monsters...with swords? This didn't feel real and yet both Annabeth and Percy were both nodding as if Judai was asking them something so simple.
"Nico left that part out?" Asked Percy, softening. He knew what that feeling was like, of just waking up one day and your life being completely different. "I...I guess I missed that part. He was telling me the myths were real and..." Judai trailed off, suddenly very aware that he was completely out of his depth here. He was a dualist, that was who he was above all else and to know he'd have to fight with something other than his deck was bizarre.
"Hey its alright, it's a lot to take in for anyone. Why don't we go grab something to eat and we can talk?" At the mention of food, Judai's stomach rumbled and now that he thought about it when was the last time he had eaten? 'That's easy, I was eating an eggwitch in a park and was talking to Johan....' He paused, he had been sitting and talking to Johan, they had met up together... and he had just vanished off the face off the world. "Judai?" Asked Annabeth, noticing his face quickly turning pale. "I'll catch up with you" he said, leaving to his cabin without another word.
He stormed in and rifled through his rucksack before pulling out a red phone and dialling a number he at this point knew by heart. The phone rang several times before Johan's voice flooded through "Judai?! Judai is that you?!" He cried, panicked and Judai felt a wave of relief go through him. Really he shouldn't have underestimated Austin when he gave him this phone, of course it would work through dimensions.
"Johan! Johan it's me, I'm okay." He replied, hearing the others sigh of relief. "Thank Ra...where are you? You just vanished, I thought something horrible had happened or you got lost..." And if the kidnapping didn't anger Judai it was the fact they had scared Johan, after everything he had gone through making him think Judai had vanished was too cruel.
"I know, I'm sorry it's a long story..."

wooden clock (mark lee)
Summary: you’re paired up to help the new student in woodshop class, a nice boy who goes from being a stranger to an enemy to a friend. ft. bully!Jaemin
Genre: angst, fluff, high school!au ?
Pairing: Mark Lee x reader
Word count: 1.97k
Tumblr media
“Y/n, despite your size, you’ve been excelling in this class. I know you’ll be a great help to the new student,” said your woodshop teacher. “Just work together on the next project, then we’ll let him work on his own on the next unit.”
“Um… sure, I guess.” you agree. When you first signed up for woodshop, it was just because the electives you really wanted to take were already full. It wasn't something you were particularly interested in, but after the first semester, it turned out you were a natural, detail-oriented in the crafts you made and extremely precise despite your short height. Though you struggled to handle and lift the machinery most of the time, your instructor consistently praised your clean work. You were just here to mind your own business and pass the class, not make friends with the rambunctious wood shop kids who talked about weird shit. But it's not like you could say no to your teacher now.
--
“Hi, my name is Mark,” he says, putting his right hand out for a handshake, as he pulls out a chair beside you. “Mr. Slater told me to sit next to y-”
“I know. I'm y/n,” you say, greeting him with your eyes and ignoring the hand. Interacting with people was not your thing. Especially in this class. Everyone's personalities and interests just seemed to clash with yours, a quiet and reserved personality who preferred two-dimensional soft paintings rather than three-dimensional physical crafts that required blades and loud machines.
Mark seemed like a nice kid. He had moved here from Canada and he seemed like someone who could make friends easily, with all the (sometimes funny, sometimes not) jokes that he cracked and his contagious laugh. Yet each day, he only sat by you and talked to you.
--
“What do I do first?” He asks.
“You have to cut the planks with the saw machine. Line up your marking with the red line here,” You demonstrated, placing your piece in the slot. “Then you just pull down the blade to cut it.”
You had to tiptoe a little bit to reach up and grab the handle of the saw machine. You felt Mark watching your every move over your shoulder. With his gaze burning into your back, the machine handle felt heavier than the last time you had used it.
“I-I got it,” Mark says, sensing your struggle. He reached over you to pull down the blade, slicing through the wood plank almost effortlessly. “Like this?”
“Yeah,” you say, a little embarrassed. You were supposed to be helping him, yet his height and strength gave him an advantage in the work that you couldn't have.
It was also kinda cute. Watching him control the blade so effortlessly though he didn't know what he was doing.
Each day, you began to find something admirable and adorable in all of Mark’s actions. The way he didn’t know how to hold an awl, the way he looked so focused when measuring, the way his cheekbones beamed when he smiled to greet you each day.
 --
As the weeks passed, you became closer and more comfortable with him in class. Some of his jokes were getting funnier and funnier to you, and you began to think that he might be someone cool you could hang out with outside of class. However, as his personality blossomed into a more colorful, extroverted persona, he also became more popular in school, making friends in his classes easily and getting along with the oh-so popular Jaemin’s friend group, which made you a little uncomfortable. In middle school, Jaemin had made you do his homework for him each day, knowing that his social presence intimidated you and that you were too shy and quiet to go against him.
Yet every woodshop class, Mark remained by your side, unknowing of your history with Jaemin, reminding you that you could never truly be friends with him.
At the end of one class, you left the classroom trailing closely behind Mark, but unexpectedly saw Jaemin waiting for Mark by the door. You avoided Jaemin’s eyes and tried to leave quickly without saying anything, but of course Mark had to speak up.
“See you tomorrow, y/n,” Mark said, raising a hand to wave goodbye.
“You know her, Mark?” Jaemin said with raised eyebrows. “Y/n, long time no see,” he sneered, his devilish gaze piercing through you.
“Yeah, she’s my woodshop partner.”
“That’s interesting... See you around again maybe, y/n,” Jaemin said, cocking his head with a slight smile, as if the fun memories of bullying you were playing through his mind again.
The interaction with Jaemin had you completely out of it the next day. Whenever you tried to clear your mind, the image of Jaemin mocking you replayed in your head, bringing back bad memories, and seeing Mark in class didn’t help.
You held the awl in your hand, grinding it against the wood to create a hole. While grinding it into the wood, you were so lost in thought that you had embedded it in there.
Mark interrupts your clouded thoughts. “Isn’t that deep enough, y/n?”
“-hm? O-oh, yeah, my bad.” You had to use some extra arm power to tug it out of the wood, scratching the sharp metal tip against your palm in the process when the awl finally came out.
“Ow! Fuck!” you exclaim, dropping the awl.
“Are you okay?” Mark asks, his eyes widening with concern shining in them. His hands reach to turn over your palm and check the gash, but you pull your hand away from him and press it against your jeans to stop the bleeding.
“I'm fine,” you say. Why did you agree to this? To have this new student on your tail for the past months, watching your every move, asking so many goddamn questions. And worst of all, acting like he cared about you. You only saw him for an hour each day, but every minute of it was filled with thoughts of Mark. His cute smile, his cute cluelessness. Even when you wanted to escape him, you couldn't. Because he was assigned to follow you around. And at the end of each class, he linked arms with Jaemin, reminding you that your life was destined to have not one good thing in it.
“Y/n,” Mark started, watching the blood smear across your skin. “Y/n, I’ll get some-”
Without responding, you got up and left to go to the bathroom.
Staring at your reflection in the bathroom mirror, you glared down your pupils. You were nothing. Just an accessory to the lives of people like Mark and Jaemin. Every interaction with Mark, every question, every statement seemed to mock your quiet lifestyle and introvertedness. Grabbing some paper towels, you clumped them together and wiped your palm before heading back to class with a weighted frustration in your chest.
You were tuned out for the rest of the week, ignoring Mark’s jokes and responding dryly to his questions. As you pass the clock to Mark for him to take turns working on it, you tense up, making sure to avoid brushing your fingers against his.
--
When the bell rang, you grabbed your bag and dashed for the door, wanting to leave Mark as far behind as possible. The closer he was to you, the more you were reminded of your experiences with Jaemin. You pushed open the door, making eye contact with Jaemin waiting beside it.
As you stormed away from the classroom, Jaemin raised his eyebrows, surprised that you weren’t beside Mark today. He decided to change it up today and chase after you.
“What’s wrong, y/n? Why aren’t you following Mark like a dog today?” He sneered, walking closely beside you despite you trying to speed up your pace.
“Wow, am I not worthy enough of a response from the great y/n?” He tilted his head to try to look into your eyes, but you avoided his gaze. “It’s been such a long time since I got to talk to you, y/n.” In the crowded hallways, Jaemin’s mocking words became muddled with the footsteps of other students rushing to get to lunch, and the loud chatter between friends. You just wanted to escape the chaos and get home.
“Y/n, why do you think you’re too good to answer me?” Jaemin teased. “Talk to me, bitch,” he said, twisting the strands of your ponytail around his finger before pulling on it, jerking your head back.
“A-ah!” you reached back to remove his grip from your hair, but before you could find his hand, another one was already locked around Jaemin’s wrist.
“Jaemin, what are you doing?” Mark asked, his knuckles turning white in their tight grasp around Jaemin’s wrist.
“Oh, Mark, there you are.” said Jaemin. “Y/n and I used to be good friends in middle school, if you didn’t know.”
“I-I don’t think -- Jaemin, I think you went too far,” Mark says. “Come on, y/n, let’s just go.” Mark lets go of Jaemin’s wrist to grab yours and lead you away.
“What was that all about?” Mark asks.
You figure you might as well just tell him the truth. “-and I-I just didn’t want to get too close to anyone that affiliates with Jaemin. That’s why I didn’t feel like talking to you the past few weeks.”
Mark didn’t know what to say. He felt guilty for outwardly befriending someone that had hurt you so much. He felt ashamed for befriending someone that was such a mean and disrespectful person. He felt regretful that he couldn’t notice the signs and be there for you. He felt thankful that you had told him the truth and deemed him someone that you could trust and confide in. And most of all, he felt like he wanted to protect you. From Jaemin, from anything. He wanted to be in your life.
From that day on, instead of parting ways after woodshop, you headed together with him in the same direction, to eat lunch together. He was no longer with Jaemin, and you were no longer alone.
You became inseparable, eating lunch together, working on your wooden clock together, studying for science and math exams together. Your feelings for Mark grew more and more each minute you spent with him, but you didn’t want to risk losing the friendship, so you repressed those feelings. It had been this hard for you to make a real friend, you were not going to lose him so easily.
On the last day of the wooden clock assignment, the finishing touch was to engrave a phrase onto the back of the clock. It could be your name, the name of the receiver of the clock, a shape, or anything you wanted. As Mr. Slater explained the process, Mark whispered to you, “Can I do this part all by myself? Please?”
“Sure,” you say. It would be nice for him to do a day of assignments completely by himself before he’d have to do the next project alone anyway.
Throughout the period, he toils away, staring intensely at his engraving on the back of the clock, carving carefully and meticulously while you work on assignments from another class.
With five minutes left in the period, Mark says excitedly, “I’m done! Y/n, look, look.”
You raise your head from your book to see the small words carved on the back of the clock: Will you go on a date with me?

Turning his phone off Yoongi headed out to the nearby park. Although he had spent the majority of his time with you he never did forget about his friend. Yoongi had been wondering what exactly had happened so long ago that had caused the big ruckus at the party. The walk wasn’t a very long one and in a matter of minutes he was able to see Hoseok. He was already sitting in a bench waiting for Yoongi. Without making too much noise Yoongi sat next to him.
“It’s a nice day out don’t you think?” Hoseok was startled at the sudden noise. “this was a perfect opportunity to steal your wallet.” Giving a playful punch Yoongi made Hoseok snicker and a small smile appeared on his face.
“Yeah I was just thinking about a lot of things.” Hoseok leaned back on the bench and looked up at the sky. Yoongi just looked at him without saying anything. “Sorry I brought you out here, I know you would much rather be out with Joon’s sister, y/n is her name right?” Sitting back up straight and turning his head towards Yoongi he was able to see his face getting red. This only made Hoseok start to laugh and Yoongi look away.
Clearing his throat Yoongi spoke up. “I came here because you said there was something you wanted to talk about, and besides what would you know about love.”
“So you do love her huh, and I know a thing or two about love. But on a bit of a serious note thanks for agreeing to come here.”
“You’re one of my best friends so of course I would come. So, what is it you wanted to talk about?”
Hoseok leaned back and rested his arms on the back of the bench. “There’s something that I want to fix, but it’s been so long that I don’t even know where to begin. Things that I thought were in the past came back even when I tried to forget about them, about him.”
Back when Hoseok was much younger he was all over the place. All around school he was known as the hot-mischievous-playboy. It wasn’t uncommon for him to have a hookup here and there and most girls knew that, and of course there were the select few that thought they could change him or that they were the only one. He didn’t care much for anyone except his few friends, so it was quite easy for him to walk out without second thought. Over time that’s what everyone knew him as and he intended on keeping his image that way, except for one little detail.
Hoseok loved to dance.
Yes, the infamous Hoseok loved to dance. Nobody knew this and he wanted to keep it that way. He didn’t need people going on about how he liked to dance and ruin his image. Hoseok wasn’t planning on changing any time soon, at least that’s what he wanted, but someone just had to come in and break all that down.
It was one rainy afternoon that he had forgotten his house keys so he decided that the best place to spend the day was at the small dance studio he would always go. So that day that’s exactly what he did. Going inside the studio he wasn’t expecting to see anyone there, but he did.
At first glance his face wasn’t quite visible, but his movements were. His movements were precise and smooth, he moved with grace, and everything was in sync with the music. Hoseok couldn’t help but want to keep watching him until he finished. When the boy finally did stop he spotted Hoseok watching him by his reflection in the mirror.
“good afternoon hyung. Sorry I didn’t know you came here,” standing straight Hoseok was able to look at him properly. His eyes were bright and held a type of sparkle he hadn’t seen before. His cheeks were also pretty in the sense that he wanted to squish them. “I’m Park Jimin.”
“nice to meet you, but do you know me?”
“we go to the same school, and well everyone knows about you”
“oh yeah that makes sense. That was very good by the way”
“oh, thank you! I’ve been practicing for some time, but I still feel it’s not perfect.”
“I thought it was incredible, but improvement never hurts. Don’t you agree?”
“Yeah, but the dance instructor already left.”
“how about I help you, I’m a pretty good dancer myself.”
“I didn’t know you were a dancer hyung.”
“nobody really knows so you must promise you won’t tell anyone. And I mean no one. I can’t have people at school know that I’m a dancer.”
“ok, I promise”
And as simple as that Hoseok would meet up with Jimin almost every day after school at the dance studio. Everyday Hoseok would look forward to seeing Jimin, and dancing with him of course, but mostly it was to see him. Even after Jimin had learned whatever Hoseok was teaching he never wanted to let him go. Deep down inside him he knew he was playing a dangerous game. If anyone were to see them together he didn’t want to imagine what would happen. Jimin was a goody-two-shoes, top student and the student president. They were like total opposites, but they got along perfectly and Hoseok didn’t want to ruin that. Jimin also knew that so he was careful whenever he said anything to Hoseok at school.
Over time both of them grew feelings for each other and it wasn’t hard to tell. There were days where both of them would just go to Hoseok’s house and watch a movie or simply just talk about their day. The days of sitting across from each other turned into Jimin snuggling in Hoseok’s arms and the times of being awkward in each other’s presence turned into them enjoying the feeling of just being together.
One day Hoseok wanted to make things official with Jimin. That day they both agreed to meet up at the dance studio. Jimin ran to the studio as soon as school ended not wanting to waste a single second. When he got there, he saw that all the lights were off. Turning on a few lights he saw Hoseok standing in the middle with a poster in hand and a single rose.
Jimin couldn’t believe his eyes as he read the poster.
I feel I found my dance partner in you. Will you go out with me? Please
With tears in his eyes Jimin nodded. “yes, I would love to go out with you Hobi”
Hobi. It was a nickname Jimin had given him and he loved it. Jimin ran into his arms and Hoseok couldn’t help but kiss his head again and again.
They had both agreed to keep their relationship a secret until they both graduated. Hoseok had already graduated and Jimin was on his last year. When their anniversary was getting near Hoseok wanted to take Jimin somewhere he had never been before. That same week a friend of Hoseok had invited him to a party and he decided it was a perfect opportunity. So that day Hoseok told Jimin to get ready and that they were going to a party. At first Jimin was skeptical on the idea but he agreed after Hoseok promise to be with him all night.
Hoseok had gone to many parties before but on the contrary Jimin had never been to one. Hoseok knew this so he wanted everything to be ok with Jimin before doing anything. Wanting to impress him Jimin took his first drink.
“You know you don’t have to do that right. You can have a good time without it.”
“No, I want to actually.” Jimin was a pretty light weight so with a drink or two he was already getting tipsy.
Feeling in the moment Hoseok couldn’t help but admire how gorgeous Jimin looked.
“You look wonderful tonight. God you really make it hard to control myself”
“Then why control yourself. I’m all yours aren’t I?” Maybe it was the alcohol in his system but Jimin couldn’t control his mouth or his actions. Pulling Hoseok closer to him he kissed him.
That was all that Hoseok needed. Without wasting any more time he pulled Jimin to the nearest empty room. It was dark but that didn’t stop them from being on top of each other in a matter of seconds. The mix of emotions and lust made them hungry for each other’s touch.
“Are you sure you want to do this? I don’t want you to regret this later love”
“Hoseok if I didn’t love you enough I wouldn’t have come with you in the first place. I love you so much.”
Those words just made Hoseok fall even more for Jimin. That night was something Hoseok would never forget. Ever since he had started going out with Jimin he hadn’t slept with anyone else. Being able to be together that intimate with Jimin was like heaven.
That day was probably the happiest Hoseok had ever been. Everything was perfect for them. But when things are perfect is when everything can come crashing down, hard.
Two days after the party Hoseok received a message from an unknown number. It was a short message, one that he had wished he never got.
Unknown: I see that our old Hoseok is back [Image]
It was a picture of him a Jimin at the party, together.
Him: what do you want? Why do you have this? Who the fuck even are you???
Unknown: you didn’t even save my number. That hurts Hoseok
Him: answer my question
Unknown: You left me when I gave you everything. And for that, that kid? Gosh I was so much better
Him: he’s not a kid. I don’t even know who you are?
Unknown: although you can be so clueless sometimes I still miss you Hoseok. It’s me, Eunbi.
Him: I’m sorry but you don’t ring any bells. Now leave me alone.
That was a lie. Eunbi had been a girl that he somewhat dated before he meet Jimin. She could be controlling at times and Hoseok got bored with her quickly.
Unknown: but you don’t understand. And if you don’t meet me I will show everyone at that kid’s school just how much of a slut he truly is. Like really, the school president getting fucked by the biggest playboy. Gosh the things they’ll say.
Him: you will do no such thing because I swear I will choke you Eunbi
Unknown: just like the old time, I like it
Unknown: now hurry because I’m not a very patient person. [Location]
As soon as Hoseok got her location he drove off. On his way there he couldn’t stop thinking of what could happen if that picture was ever leaked. He was worried of what were to happen if everyone were to find out about their relationship. He knew that he had a very bad reputation unlike Jimin. He was an example student that everyone respected. To everyone Jimin was the perfect student, so what would happen if they were to find out that he had been in a relationship with him. Hoseok wanted to scream and cry but he refused to let himself do it. When he arrived at the location he had been sent he saw that it was a hotel. He already didn’t like it.
Him: I’m here now where the fuck are you.
Unknown: chill down. Room 248
Walking inside he headed up to find room 248. After a minute or two he found the despised room. He knocked once on the door. Not two seconds later Eunbi was opening the door. She was a pretty girl but her attitude ruined that pretty face.
“I’m here now fucking delete that photo.”
“calm down hoseokie,” she blew a kiss at him and giggled. “come on in first and then we’ll talk”
Hoseok went inside and sat down and Eunbi walked to him seductively. She had once known how to turn on Hoseok and get her way but this time it was different. His eyes didn’t grow dark in need for her instead they were filled with rage and anger. Eunbi sat on the bed and sighed.
“come on hoseok just relax it’s just you and me here.”
“Stop playing around Eunbi and just tell me what the fuck you want”
“You can really be so stupid sometimes Hoseok, I want you. I want to be with you again. I honestly can’t believe you left me and for what that scrawny little kid. I can be so much better than him and you know it.”
“I didn’t ask for what you thought. My relationship with him is not your business. We’ve been done for a long time and I honestly don’t want to even see you anymore. Now delete that photo immediately.”
“Fine. If you don’t want me back that’s your loss and I promise you will regret it. If you want something you’ll have to earn it.”
“So what the hell do you want”
“Just, just have a drink with me. That should be enough, right?”
“Fine whatever but just one drink and you delete that picture”
“Deal. Just one drink should be more than enough”
Eunbi got up to get them some drinks. What Hoseok didn’t know was that she had other plans. Giving him his drink Hoseok drank it all in one shot.
“Now delete... that... photo... god... my head hurts”
With that he feel asleep. Eunbi only smirked to herself and kissed him. She laid down Hoseok on the bed and unbuttoned his shirt. After that she looked for his phone and opening it with his fingerprint and took a picture.
He missed me. We had a good time btw. In the picture she was kissing Hoseok.
With that she sent it to one person, and one person only
Jimin.
Smiling at herself she fixed herself up and left. “I told you that you would regret it Hoseok”
When Hoseok woke up he was all alone. He knew that Eunbi had done something and when he looked at his phone it just confirmed it. Jimin had already seen the picture that she sent. He wanted to find Eunbi and send her far away. But that would do nothing now.
He shouldn’t have agreed to anything.
The next day when Hoseok went to visit Jimin you were there. You were the one that opened the door.
“What are you doing here? Why don’t you go back to that girl if you missed her so much”
“I’m sorry, please let me explain.”
“No. You really hurt him, and I won’t let you do it again. Yesterday he called me while sobbing. He said that he didn’t want to believe that you had done it. He gave you everything Hoseok, and you didn’t value it. When he told me he was going out with you I didn’t want him too because I knew something like this would happen. But he was genuinely happy so I let him when I shouldn’t have. He’s really hurt and someone like him doesn’t deserve that and you know it.”
“But I do value him. I know he gave me everything. He’s the only one I truly had feelings for, that I loved. And I know I fucked up but please let me talk to him.”
“You’re right. You did fuck up but I won’t let you talk to him. Now please leave before I lose it and kill you.”
He knew that he had messed up and he didn’t even know what he would say if you did let him in. Deep down he thought that separating himself from him would be best. That way he wouldn’t hurt him or ruin him. “Fine but please tell him that I loved him, and that I only want the best for him.”
Back to the present.
“After that I never saw him again. He finished school and moved. I never got to explain what really happened.”
“You’re really dumb you know that right” Yoongi had been listening closely to everything that his friend had said. “If you loved him why didn’t you reach out to him.”
“I was scared, and I just didn’t want to ruin him. He’s so pure and wonderful and just perfect.” Hoseok’s mind went back to the past as he remembered all the good times they spent together. “I know I can’t be with him, but I want to make things right at least. I don’t want to keep running from my past like a coward.”
Yoongi smiled and patted Hoseok on the back. “You’ve changed and I’m sure you can make things right. And I’ll help you.”
“Thanks, Yoongi. Really I don’t know what I would do without you.”

Season 7 or 8, I'm not sure - Episode 1 First Aired: February 26, 2018
Episode Recap of "In Love in Switzerland"
From TV Guide: "In the Season premiere, Joy and Austin finally get to enjoy some alone time in Switzerland after saying "I do." Meanwhile, Joe and Kendra get their engagement photos taken; and the siblings help Jinger and Jeremy move into their new house." The house moving is the next episode.
I’m back! My recap season of life has returned and I pledge to make my recaps shorter so I can have a life. I always say that but then find too much stuff to comment on.
1. The season begins a few days after Joy’s wedding way back in May 2017. They show the clip of their first kiss and I swear they faked it. I can see no lip on lip action. This may be a precursor to Gideon’s faked home birth episode. Yeah, I know, I’m speculating. But some conspiracy is obviously going on there. Jessa, Jinger, and pulled off the show Jill, talk about how barriers break down after you say, "I do". Barriers that shouldn’t have been up in the first place except for the saving yourself for marriage if that is your choice. Barriers don’t make for a great understanding of who you are marrying. As for Jill, Derick is a liar. Pulling your family off the show means just that. That’s what you said and it isn’t what you did. You are a lying hypocrite.
2. TLC again airs the honeymoon suite that has occurred in all of the previous marriages to much my horror and snark. Why must they show off the deflowering room? Joy is happy to have thirty minutes to read the Bible with Austin before flying off to Switzerland on TLC’s dime. She is most likely already pregnant at this point.  Austin has always wanted to go to the Swiss Alps and marrying Joy made that dream come true. They debate who is going to be the better skier and I hope they both break legs. Yep, I’m already bored and need a wake me up. They drive up to the airport and abandon their car out front for a tow truck to take care of for them. I guess they were too distracted by the thought of sweet Swiss sex to care about their car.  Austin talks about being able to navigate their own lives without any outside guidance all while a crew from TLC films his every move. You’re not on your own yet, buddy.
3. 24 hours later, they are finally in Geneva, Switzerland and are very tired and horny. After solving both those problems they go out for lunch at a fondue place. The waiters tease them with a French menu but then later give them a menu in English. Joy is then bewildered by sparkling water. She calls it water with gas. As bewildering as water is for Joy, the cheese fondue is mind blowing. Austin checks out the other diners using his phone to figure out how to eat cheese fondue. The waiter instructs them on how to fundue but Austin does it wrong and burns his mouth. I wonder who instructed them on how to fundue in the honeymoon suite that first night. Dip it in and swirl it around. Suffer some serious burns if done wrong.  End up with an after taste of morning sickness if done without thinking. Too much fondueing  leads to weight gain and sleepless nights. Who knew cheese was so dangerous. Too much fondue can also lead to yodeling. Joy is set up by TLC and some local yodelers to try her old yodeling skills in the restaurant. Talking head Duggars try their yodeling skills as well. You can tell they have all seen The Sound of Music. They all do the yodel from that movie. Jessa and Ben are interviewed separately here. I wonder why. They don’t show much but Joy does pretty well with her yodeling skills. Austin just continued to stuff his mouth with cheese.
4. Joeken are taking their engagement photos back in Arkansas. Jinger wasn’t available to take them so another ATI trained photographer, Elizabeth Shoemaker, is in charge. Elizabeth is a long-time Duggar friend and Gothardite who is now wearing jeans!  Joy is amazed by sparkling water and I am amazed by Gothardite women who are breaking free from legalistic rules. Joeken brought Kendra’s younger sister, Lauren, to chaperone because Kendra says the desire to jump each others bones is too strong for them to be trusted alone. When will these kids develop some self-control? The photographer tells Joe to put his hand on Kendra’s waist and Joe seeks the approval of Lauren. What is wrong with these young adults? They are so emotionally stunted. Joeken are now allowing a few more sidehugs, hand holding, and I love yous, throughout their engagement days but holding out on kissing, sex, and really getting to know each other for after the wedding. Joe says the wedding is for the girl and for her to look back on and remember. I guess the honeymoon night is for the guy. The producers ask the talking head Duggars which Duggar guy is next for a relationship. There isn’t a lot of confidence in John. John just needs to run off and elope and stop with his families’ silly games.
5. Joystin take a chocolate making class. This is the typical honeymoon activity for these people. In the class they meet a couple who have been married for eleven years and have five kids and their advice to Joystin is to have a lot of kids. Seriously?!! Did Jim Bob arrange this ahead of time? They are in the same cooking class as a Swiss couple with five kids which they admit is a lot in Switzerland? Talk about coincidence. The brainwashing continues out of Arkansas. Joy says God won’t give you more kids than you can handle which is sad when some are only blessed with two or three or even none. They must think God thinks those women are incompetent. Does Joy know about those big families who abuse and neglect their kids? The Turpins, the Willises, the Rodriguezes, and so many more, including her own parents? Michelle couldn’t handle all her kids, she has admitted this, without depending on her own little village to raise her children. Don’t these people ever think beyond the silly little catch phrases they are taught?
6. Hang gliding time. A lot of death jokes happen here. I think they’re all freakin' insane! At least when Josh and Anna went parasailing on their honeymoon they had the water to fall into. Joy lands by belly flopping on baby Gideon. I’m sure hang gliding is pretty safe and controlled but just watching it gave me a panic attack. I’m rewinding back to chocolate class to ease my nerves.
7. JinJer finally show up on the show to play a safer sport. It’s tennis time for these two. I have taken tennis classes myself so my nerves are calming down until the producers make it a big point of showing Jeremy and then Jinger exiting their car in modern day clothing that doesn’t fit into the Duggar tin box. Jinger in a short skort and a sleeveless top and Jeremy is wearing what looks like a bathing suit that doesn’t quite match his shirt. What happened to his vane style? They are both competitive and sweaty. The producers spring a strange question on the Duggar talking heads as the tennis scene is playing. They ask, “What seed are you in the Duggar family?” Seed is a tennis term which of course they are clueless about. They all look terribly confused which I don’t blame them. They all watch football, not tennis. The producers know the family lacks diversity and are clueless about most things. Jessa claims to be a watermelon seed and Jed is the seed of Jim Bob and Michelle which is sadly accurate. My seed in tennis is the bench warmer as Jeremy's was in soccer. Jeremy beats Jinger and I imagine Jinger taking secret tennis lessons from a pro and you know how that usually ends up. Next season on Counting On: Jinger courts the tennis pro and Jeremy seeds himself.
8. Back to the honeymoon of cheese, chocolate and terror.  Joystin are now heading to Zermatt to go skiing but first they must buy tickets for the train. They hold up the ticket line by trying to buy a ticket in German but fail. They get yelled by some guy in German…I think. They flirt on the train and kiss through some tunnels. How Freudian. They worry about there being no snow on the glacier. Just wait a few years. Climate change is working on that. They finally find snow and hope a magically arranged by TLC ski instructor would pop up out of thin air but I guess TLC decided watching them flail and fall would be more fun. They actually both do pretty well except for not knowing how to stop. Joy later stands on the mountain barefoot because that is her natural state of being and her boots were too damn tight.
9. The episode ends with them packing up to go home which is a lie because they were out of the country for two or three weeks and ended up in Israel for awhile.  Anyway, besides the lie, it was a nice travelogue episode. I hope to go to Switzerland someday so it was nice to see the scenery. You won’t catch me hang gliding though. Hell no! Chocolate making and eating is my thing!

Pretty unusual begin
Komi san wa Komyushou Desu manga had a pretty unusual begin, on the first chapter it was shown that our primary character named" Fujii Natsuo" was in love with her teacher, Hina, who was known for being a very gorgeous instructor. Yet that's not all, prior to reading this testimonial you might have checked out the synopsis first, our main personality lost his virginity to a lady called Rui for the sake of wishing to experience it. To our Natsuo's surprise, he ended up being brother or sisters with the teacher he loves and the woman she made love with after her daddy remarried.
Komi-san wa Komyushou Desu manga's story is something that you wouldn't see daily. It has a little bit of NTR and incest if you take into consideration step-sibling love as incest. A whole buttload of phases have to do with Natsuo trying so hard for him to belong on his teacher's heart while Rui locates herself to be crazy with Natsuo.
The story can sometimes be irritating to check out not because it's uninteresting or has a negative story, however as a result of the personalities; Hina and also Natsuo.
Why do they make Komi-san wa Komyushou Desu manga a frustrating read? For something, it's due to just how Hina couldn't choose what she actually feels. Occasionally it appears as if she's forcing herself to like a person because they liked her. Her relationship with Natsuo is a lot more discouraging, on-off-on-off; she always considers the repercussions if she continued her connection with Natsuo, which was cut off for a short while.
Tumblr media
As Peerless Dad stated over, the main personalities of the tale are Rui Tachibana, Fuuji Natsuo and also Hina Tachibana. Rui Tachibana, the woman she made love with, which in the future created feelings for him. Hina Tachibana, the instructor who is clueless as to who her heart truly defeats fory. Lastly, Fuuji Natsuo, a hopeful author who has loved his instructor and is camouflaged as a" nice man ". My greatest issue with the characters is Natsuo, since he's the sort of person who desires whatever to take place, his means. The method he always pressed his sensations to Hina, simply for his purpose.
There are extra personalities in Komi-san wa Komyushou Desu manga yet most are pretty irrelevant as well as are probably devices for a harem for Natsuo (not truly ).
The art of the manga isn't anything distinct, but it feels suitable for the tale it's attempting to depict. The personality styles are additionally fit, and includes a more reasonable ambiance to the manga; no hair shades for most characters aside from black which is a good thing. It isn't untidy and is really very easy to follow. Incidentally, you can find another collection in numerous review manga online websites similar to this.
As high as I really felt upset as well as unfortunate while reviewing Komi-san wa Komyushou Desu manga, it was really satisfying as to just how Natsuo searches for services to troubles not just his, yet also other people's troubles; and also regarding how he pursues his desires with the turmoil of the entire love triangle.

""How does car insurance in Ontario, Canada work if deductibles are involved?""
Maybe I'm missing something here, but the way it's been explained to me is this: I've got a $500 deductible on my policy. If someone backs into my parked car, this will be deducted from the payout I get for repairs. OK, let's say the damages amount to $900. That would mean that because of MY $500 deductible, the payout to me would be $400. I'd have to pay the other $500 out of pocket to repair my car. The insurance company would then reclaim that $400 from the other guy's insurance company. Now, if the other guy also has a $500 deductible (very likely), then he'd have to pay $400 out of pocket. That seems wacked to me. Someone damages my car, and he has to pay LESS than I do for the damages. Am I missing something?""

People who cant afford health insurance are quacks?
i see the merits of having universal health care, kind of, but it seems to me that the problem is a lot of middle class citizens who just decide nto to purchase health insurance on the premise that they cannot afford it , and instead opt to buy material goods that are solely for luxury. you cant go out and buy nice cars and houses and bypass health insurance and then cry it off that the government should give free care to everryone.......i definitely agree it should be cheaper for the poor etc. bottom line: ppl need to realize health is the most important thing in there life, and satisfy that need, before thinking about personal possesions (nice cars etc)""

Health insurance in California?
My wife and I will be moving to California in December. We've heard that health insurance is more expensive there than in other states. My question is this: If I'm unable to get a job that offers health insurance as a benefit and I'm forced to buy my own policy - about (exact quotes not necessary) how much should I expect to pay monthly? I have health insurance through my job and I'm currently pregnant and due in August. I just found out that if I add my soon to be daughter to my insurance plan my insurance will go up to 634/month. Why do a lot of health insurance plans through your parents employers cut you off at 25 yrs old?
I'm a full time student and turned 25 in September. I guess once September ended I'm no longer covered under my dad's health insurance. I was surprised because I at least thought I had the semester to finish off since it was that way with my friend. But anyways, why do a lot of companies cut you off by then? I know a lot of people at that age are done with college, but there are still plenty who aren't. I'm still an undergrad, but what about the ones that are going to medical school, dental school, etc, that aren't even done with college until there late 20s if they went right out of high school? 25 is still young, and it's still hard to afford for most people at that age. I want a car but my parents wont pay for insurance?
I asked this question before, but people were being extremely rude so I deleted it. If I get a car, I will be paying for everything myself. The car, the gas, the maintenance, etc. The only thing that I will not be able to afford is the insurance. I don't really care about having my own car, but I can't drive my parents' cars: my mom's is for her work, and my dad's is really expensive and he doesn't want me driving it. Either way, just to drive someone else's car I have to have insurance to cover myself and any damages I could cause in case of anything. So, anyways, the only thing I need my parents to pay for is the insurance. They absoulutley refuse. They think that I don't need to drive. I don't want to depend on my friends to drive me everywhere. They can definitely afford insurance, they just don't want to pay for it. I might sound spoiled or whatever but I'm not. Ever since I could remember, I've had to pay for most of everything I own. All of my clothes, toys (when I played with them), iPods, the computer that I'm on right now. I'm paying for my text messaging, too. so, I understand the value of money. I just want them to pay for this one thing. so, my plan was to buy a car, and then threaten to drive uninsured until they get insurance. Kind of mean, I know, but I'md esperate. What do you think?""

Why do people drive without auto insurance?
Don't give me because it costs too much and they cant afford it. I think it's the price of having a car. You wouldn't get a car and say well tires are expensive, I can't afford them you just need them. The point of insurance is to be able to afford to fix any damages you may cause to another driver's car or person. Need help on car insurance for young driver?
Hi! I've been struggling to get a good quote for car insurance for a while now. I tried all the big name comparison sites and every one is quoting me 4k (monthly installments). I opted for third party and theft, i am 22 years of age and my postcode starts with sl1 (slough) and i got pass plus and had my licence (manual) since march 2011. I got my car already its a Peugeot 206 1.6l petrol manual 1999 3doors. If you have time you can try for yourself with the above details the quote is freaking too much. Is this just how it is or am i doing something wrong? If you can point me to the right direction that would be amazing!!""
How come different auto insurance agencies charge different prices for the same insurance company?
yes i went to three different insurance agencys to see what quotes theyll give me. one say said ill pay 50 a month and 140 down payment for access auto insurance . the other agency said ill pay 60 a month and 90 down payment for the same company. and the third agency said i would probably not qualify for access auto insuranc. im 20 year old male riverside ca 94 accord. why would three different agencys quote diferently for the same auto company ? whyyy is it a scam

Law in regards to company cars and insurance...please help?
I was hired at a company but instructed that I could not drive the company cars nor my own car during work hours because I have had my license suspended in the past due to parking tickets (alot of them, a long time ago) My license is fine now. I have never had anything more than parking tix on my record. I want to apply for another job within the company but it would require driving. I am willing to drive my own car...for insurance purposes is there a waiver or something I can sign which would let me drive my own car on the job which would relieve them of any liablility should an accident occur?""

Insurance company wants to total my car/not insure it.?
So my dad rear ended someone really softly, but it was a truck that he rear ended with a hitch or something that damaged the grill and the bumper. Problem is, I put a total of $2700 to have transmission replaced and the engine repaired after the timing belt broke and caused damage over the last 2-3 months. It is a 2004 dodge neon and the body to these things are flimsy to begin with. I'm taking it in Monday to get it looked at better, but they said from what they could see it might be a total loss. Which means its only gonna be worth $2000. they said they have to replace the hood, the grill, and the bumper and other stuff which is **** because I know people who could fix these problems for less than $500. they aren't even visibly bad, a few dents in the places i mentioned but when i took it in they reacted like i had been in a head on collision going 50 mph. It runs perfectly, we wouldn't have even reported it except we were worried the guy might claim injury after the fact (which he did). What can I do? This is my only car, and I am already in debt from student loans. $2000 isn't gonna buy me a new car. How can I convince them not to total it when I take it in?""

What kind of life insurance is out there for ppl 70 years and up that does not require a medical background? She has a bad hip, smokes like a turned over train, and she hasn't had a physical in aprox. 15-20 years. And she has no assets of any kind to help with expenses if she should pass unexpectantly. I need to know where i stand with insurance?
basically a guy drove into the side of me and my car is in the garage awaiting assessment to see if its to be written off or fixed. of course the insurance wants whatever is cheapest and its looking like it would be cheaper to write it off. if this happens can i 1. offer to pay more on my excess to get it fixed? 2. get the car picked up and pay for it all myself to get fixed at my own mechanics? its not that the car isn't fixable its just that the insurance is looking at the cheapest option, which looks like writing it off, because my excess is so high, but if they do this i will never be able to afford the insurance, so would rather keep this policy and fix it, anyway is this possible and can anyone find a loophole?""

Low Cost Health Insurance (Indiana)?

It would be nice if it was under $50 and still managed to cover most of the things that I need, generic drug coverage, and doctor office visits. I think my short term disability due to giving birth got messed up?
So I want on leave on May 20th due to best rest. I used all my vacation and leftover sick time, and the rest is paid by short term disability, a total of about 9 weeks total. I stayed home 6 weeks after my baby was born since my work doesn't cover any of my pay. I work in a very small private business, just 3 of us. My boss had never handled maternity leave before, and I think he did it wrong. A few weeks after I gave birth he said he got a check from the disability insurance agency, it was made out to his business. So he cashed it and wrote me a check for the total amount from his business account. There was no explanation of how to dole it out, so he just gave me the total amount. Then, just now, 3 weeks later, I got another check mailed to my home from the insurance company?? What happened? I should of only got paid for the 3.5 weeks I believe from short term disability because I was paid for the rest. The insurance company is not open until tomorrow so I cannot call them yet.""

Ms. Shelley Devine is a multi-disciplined martial arts practitioner and yoga teacher based in Massachusetts. She is also the host of the Evolve WMMA Podcast.
It meant so much to me to be treated as an equal and not looked at as, you know, “oh, you’re a girl you cant do that…”
Ms. Shelley Devine – Episode 292
Our guest today found martial arts later than some while accompanying her child to a martial arts class. Ms. Shelley Devine might have started later than others, but she’s never stopped since. Ms. Devine’s journey shows her dedication because she has not only accompanied her child to the class but she herself has multiple disciplines under her belt. Not only that, she’s launched her own martial arts podcast that’s a welcome development to our ever growing martial arts community. Ms. Shelley Devine definitely embodies the spirit of martial arts. Hey there, thanks for coming by. Welcome, this is whistlekick martial arts radio. My name is Jeremy Lesniak and today I’m joined by Ms. Shelley Devine. You probably know whistlekick where the ones known for making great sparring gear, fun apparels some training accessories and honestly a ton of websites more than I can go into right now, so the best place to start is whistlekick.com, that’s where you can get links to everything we’ve got going on. Of course, if you want to show notes featuring links, photos from our episode, sometimes videos, and a ton more, oh transcripts, we don’t talk about that too often, there are transcripts you can read right there while you’re playing the episode or download as a pdf, we would make it accessible for you those are all over at whistlekickmartialartsradio.com. Today’s guest is fairly local, she is just a couple hours away from me Boston, Massachusetts area and we spent a lot of time talking about women in the martial arts, we talk about women in MMA some of the folks that she looks up to in mixed martial arts and her interesting journey that has left her starting over a couple times rediscovering the love of being a perpetual student and all the wonderful things that have led her to where she’s at in life and as a martial artist. So, let’s welcome her to the show. Ms. Devine welcome to whistlekick martial arts radio.
Shelley Devine:
Hi Jeremy. It’s nice to meet you.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Well, it’s nice to meet you too. Listeners that this is one of those where you know it’s a referral like most of our episodes, it’s a referral either a listener or past guest and so other than the let’s see what does skype say the seven minutes or so that we’ve been on the phone we haven’t spoken. So, I’m in the same boat as all the listeners I’m gonna take this ride with them and learn all about you your journey through the martial arts.
Shelley Devine:
Okay well it’s funny that you know I’m in the middle of developing a podcast and how I came to you through a referral was I was interviewing one of your listeners who was a black belt who used to be one of my students many, many years ago when I was actually a yoga instructor. And then also training my slides but then teaching like a cardio kickboxing class and she went on to become a black belt so there you go. It’s funny how things you know wind around and you end up in places like I’m in the hot seat right now being you know the interviewee and instead of the interviewer.
Jeremy Lesniak:
It’s weird isn’t it?
Shelley Devine:
It’s very interesting. I mean, I’ve been in this seat before but in a different context and not about so much about myself but it is funny doing it this way. I’ve been on video before and then I’ve also spoken, years ago when women’s mixed martial arts was coming up when you know the women were just getting into the cage and speaking to, oh god what was his name, Goldman he does the no holds barred podcast I think do you recall that at all Jeremy?
Jeremy Lesniak:
I don’t but keep talking and I’ll see if I can look it up real quick.
Shelley Devine:
Yeah, I mean it was some time ago he interviewed me after I been in New York watching, while actually photographing and writing an article about women’s Muay Thai fight in New York, you now like they didn’t they didn’t have an MMA in the art but they would allow for the Muay Thai kickboxing so I was there watching that and photographing some of the women there and also you know, interviewing some of them writing a little article about you know women fighting. It was all that was just strictly women shout which was kind of unusual at that time.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Eddie Goldman does that name sound right?
Shelley Devine:
Yes. Eddie Goldman. Yes yeah. I can’t think of his first and last name but yeah, he spent he was kind of like the first podcast that I can never really remember before like even joe Rogan’s out there. People would listen to him you know he was really pretty much the only show I thought was kind of around.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Yeah. You know it’s fun to go back to some of those early days of podcasting because you had to work for it. You had to work to produce and you had to work to listen to it for the most part. There weren’t the convenient options that you know you and I were talking a little bit before we went live here that you know, there is some work that goes into this but you really at the end of the day it’s about consistency, it’s about the relationships you build in getting the guests and the content the technical stuff which 10 years ago was the limiting factor is not the limitation now.
Shelley Devine:
Not at all it’s become so much easier now to be able to do it. I mean last year when I started even, I had help from a friend of mine who was the videographer and he knew sound so he had all the microphones and he had all the, I don’t know, all the gear and the contraptions know what he did but he put a microphone in my friend my mouth then and I would talk tonight, we had guest and he put mics in front of them you know in front of them and they would talk and then he would go back to shop and I didn’t know what happened how he would put it all together. I was clueless and I’m learning that now and I was like oh wow it just got so much easier. You know, that they have all these like I mean, you can do this on skype now you just need a microphone and the microphones are really great now too so it’s really definitely come a long way.
Jeremy Lesniak:
A very long way. Well of course this is not how to start a podcast, podcast. This is martial arts radio and obviously we have you want to talk about martial arts. Let’s go back, you mentioned yoga we talked a little bit before we started about kickboxing, but let’s go back all the way to the beginning when did you start martial arts?
Shelley Devine:
I started late in life. I started well actually my daughter when she was young probably in elementary school wanted to take a karate class so I think she was maybe you know first grade, 2nd grade and one of her friends parents was opening a school that was local to us so I was like well you know let’s go over and try it out and I got the kids both kids involved and they loved it and then they said that they were going to have a cardio kickboxing class for the women and so I took that and you know it’s kind of funny because I remember hitting, I still it’s a visceral feeling, I remember hitting the heavy bag and I was just like oh my god, I have to like explore this more and as I got into just doing the cardio can boxing class it was a gateway for me to take the karate class, it was a gojiru karate and I did that learn some forms and stuff and then, there was an evening class that was more scary and there was no women in it and want to do that it was a traditional jujitsu class and it was with a ragtag kind of group of guys that didn’t really have a gym and they would go around and they would, oh can we rent space here and use your gym in the evening and they happened to be friends with José Alfonzo who was my karate instructor and I ended up going into that class and I remember watching it being terrified because they actually used like real knives and real weapons and the guys were really kind of hard core and the more I learned about them the more I was like oh my gosh these guys are nuts. And you know it was safe but it actually really was and it was safe under you know while in that environment of the two main instructors José and bob Pasolini but if I went off with those guys to their own like you know what they were out in the street maybe training it was not a safe environment to train at all. These guys were a little nutty and by the time I started, I got to my yellow belt but that then the school shut down and I was lost, I didn’t have a place to go my kids were kind of you know they did have a place in and they were kind of like I don’t want to do this anymore and a couple of women who their kids ended up going in to Hyde park to, actually kind of a bit of a famous school it’s called one step beyond in Boston. I don’t know if you’ve heard of it?
Jeremy Lesniak:
That the name is of slightly familiar but I can’t place why.
Shelley Devine:
Well Billy blanks used to teach there, he used to do cardio kickboxing out in Hollywood whatever he used to teach the stars well apparently, I didn’t know this at the time but he used to work there I guess. And so, some of the women were saying oh you know we know this girl that could teach a cardio kickboxing class so I started teaching cardio kickboxing there. I think Paul [00:10:39.49] was the owner at the time and stayed there for a bit I wasn’t like I was in this place, I was like I need to learn in and I kinda felt like I need something else I didn’t know what it was and then my old instructor José called me cause he had moved to Florida and said Shelley what are you doing you now and I said I can’t find a place and he goes, I think you like this place up in [00:11:07.52] mass called small circle jujitsu with the guy there and [00:11:10.21] he’s a great instructor I think you’ll feel really like it you should go up and check that place out. I trained there for a bit, I think you’ll really like it. So, I went there and I stayed there for a lot of years I got my brown belt, I think I was about third-degree brown belt and I was in there like little black belt club and at that time was opening up my yoga studio with my ex-husband which led into we open up a martial arts studio inside the yoga studio so that was kind of cool. We had both things going on but we you know with having a business together and all that we both ended up going our separate ways he took the studio and made his way with that made it into a great gym it’s a pretty good just now a lot of people go to it and I transitioned to [00:12:03.04] Muay Thai kickboxing. So, went back to kickboxing and I have been there ever since, it’s been my home I have my blue monk called there, trained in Thailand for a little bit, I went there for a month got to train with [00:12:16.01] and also got to go to Singapore and train a little bit there too you know, just for about a month but was such a great experience but that’s when I pretty much my travels in martial arts.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Here you are, you’re bouncing around your finding your way through the world martial arts and I want to go back one of the first things you said that you remembered hitting that heavy bag and needing to, I don’t remember the exact word you use explore that was kind of my take away, what is it about that experience that the light bulb switched on?
Shelley Devine:
It was a really visceral. It was something that like, it’s almost like you recognize the part of yourself that was never really explored and as a young girl I can remember are you now watching say Muhammad Ali fight and you know that was kind of something I will watch with my dad and I used to kinda get in fights when I was a little girl and I was the one that people would come around you know if they were having enough they were being bullied or something and I would protect them or something and I’d have you know, first I talk to the person and then it would lead to okay fist are getting thrown and I would usually walk away. Okay and it was kind of even like boys that happen with girls in my teens and I just never really, I mean, the martial arts weren’t really an option it was only saw boys doing that you didn’t see girls doing it. And so it never really I think you know all those years it really wasn’t an option for me and then when I was taking the cardio kickboxing class, you now, I was in my late 30s and I just was like wow I loved it and I wanted to explore and I got to you know when I, I think there was an instructor there, gosh I wish I could remember his name, on it was a boxing coach and he’s like you fought before and I’m like, not really he goes well you know how to stand and I was like well it’s just innately natural, I’d [00:14:45.00] had no training but maybe just watching fights when I was a kid watching the boxers and stuff. And just one thing led to another and I was just so curious and I loved the, a little bit of that adrenaline rush of being fearful of you know the weapons attacks when I was doing the traditional jujitsu and learning all the technical aspects of things and how the body moved and then I could relate to a spiritual sense so it was just kind of something that was aha! It’s all coming together. And you know how it affects your body that holistic kind of effect that martial arts has where you know, you you’re working in a circular fashion a bit of, you have an opponent and then you have your yourself and the opponent is only a reflection of something that you are fearful of anyways to begin with and its just kind of contrast and that’s what fighting has always been for me. Or are dealing with something in martial arts when you’re training, it just helps to improve you and whole-body sense in that bag I think just when I hit it just brought it all to the forefront and I was like oh my god I love this. You know, kind of crazy but that’s, I think that’s the best description I can give to it. It just embodies everything that I felt like I could I wasn’t you now, experiencing my life, how strange was that right?
Jeremy Lesniak:
Well, it is and it isn’t. Because it’s not that dissimilar to what we’ve heard from others on this show and you know without an attempt at sexism you did bring it up I think sometimes for women, this is a real thing. You know I think this is why typically when I look into cardio kickboxing fitness kickboxing whatever is the ranks and there tend to be women whereas when we look at traditional martial arts the dynamics overall 10 the flip it is a male-dominated pursuit unfortunately but here is kind of the more visceral the more physical aspect in an approachable way for women and I think that’s great. I mean personally and I’d love to see it much more balanced on both sides but it is what is.
Shelley Devine:
Yeah, it’s moving in that direction. You know, we have women now that are fighting on a male platform that you know you have in the UFC, you have women men fighting in the same cage and women are fighting the same cage, you know they were fighting for same-sex opponents which is the way I would want it, but it’s something that’s new, this is you know so new and you know when you look at the cardio kickboxing classes they’re just gateways for women to take it to the next level to enter like say a karate class or traditional jujitsu or Brazilian jujitsu class or a kickboxing and Muay Thai kickboxing class and where they would be typically afraid to do that because there’s a part of them that is just not exercise, it’s the part of their natural law, human, I was talking about this with another woman yesterday about like bringing in that aggressive side of being a human being and I think it suppressed in women and I think it has been for a very, very, very long time and it is just maybe in the last you know generation of women it’s starting to really reveal itself you see it more because it’s more accepted that women are playing sports. You know, when we can play soccer, they can play baseball, they’re playing football, they’re playing you know we see it in tennis but we have, now we have racecar drivers that women. So, you’re seeing women doing things that would typically male dominated by you know now it’s worth seeing, young girls are saying that there are no limits. Not just, you don’t just have to be a hairdresser or not that that’s a bad, you know, I’m not knocking hair dressing but those were the only options is the be a teacher or nurse or a hairdresser or something of that you know or a massage therapist and those were really the only work kind of opportunities that I saw in growing up and or be a mom and stay at home with the kids which is all fine. I mean I think that’s a great, those are great professions and there’s no job tougher than being a stay-at-home mom I think. You know, if your home with kids and stuff there’s no greater job that you could do on earth or even to be a father. But those were the only things that maybe a young girl saw or now they could be an architect or they could be a mixed martial artist and fight in the cage and that wasn’t you know, that’s only in my lifetime that I’ve seen that my generation, you know and it was later in life you know, I’m saying like didn’t start until I was in late 30s and hitting 40s so…
Jeremy Lesniak:
Not only is, say like MMA, an option for women but we had a several year period with the biggest mixed martial arts draw in the world was a woman. And there is not another sport that we’ve had that I’m aware of or that you ever been able to say that. People tuning in to watch Ronda Rousey, this is not an MMA show and listeners don’t worry we’re not gonna, you know take a hard left here and really go down that path but it bears mentioning because at least in the early days, MMA folks were coming out of traditional martial arts and Ronda Rousey I mean maybe she’s moved on the professional wrestling now but you know I still look at her is one of ours, because she came out of judo.
Shelley Devine:
Yes absolutely.
Jeremy Lesniak:
So, I think we get we get to claim some ownership over her and what she has done for…
Shelley Devine:
Absolutely she truly a flashlight as I think you know, being a mixed martial artist is exploring all different types martial arts and that’s the journey of being a martial artist, sticking with one system isn’t necessarily going to you know, limit you but why not explore other you know judo is one thing, you learn how to toss somebody around and in learning leverage and learning your own body’s balance but then if you decide to go online kickboxing that that’s a whole other you know, that’s a whole other way of using your body as a weapon you have eight limbs to use in a different way other than you know, say tossing somebody in judo.
Jeremy Lesniak:
There’s a bit of a Muay Thai reference in there isn’t there? Eight limbs. Not everyone may get that reference.
Shelley Devine:
Yeah so it’s just you know martial arts is, offer’s such full spectrum of how to exploit yourself as a human being more so than you know I we touched on that, I was a yoga instructor and the only downside of it’s kind of I feel like in my own practice being a yoga instructor and then being martial artist, the two were like okay they seem like very at odds with one another but bringing them together I think yoga is a part of mixed martial arts too which I don’t think god customarily mixed martial artist would say that but it is cause it’s another art and it is another way to the body and to connect with source. And I think as much license were trying to do too, depending on you know through our bodies, to our minds, to our spirits and I don’t know. I think you know, going down that road of you know women being in mixed martial arts you know Ronda Rousey doing what she did and she’s on that platform and she created this this this opportunity but she started out as you know a judo player and she became an Olympic athlete but she couldn’t do anything with that. That was her love and her passion she couldn’t survive on being an Olympic athlete and I don’t know too many martial artists unless they open a gym that can survive on just being a competitor.
Jeremy Lesniak:
I would say there are none.
Shelley Devine:
Yeah. And why is that? You know like it seems kind of when we’re on this question, we love this kind of movement in our body and it’s an interactive movement and it really expresses who we are as humans to one another. It’s like oh what do you, how come we can’t, I don’t know what I’m trying to say here but it’s just going down a rabbit hole. It’s just interesting to me and I don’t know where to go with that I guess.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Well you’re not the first person to wonder about that why is it that the best of the best when it comes to martial arts do not have the opportunities that so many other disciplines pursuits do if you are the best biologist in the world you have grant money thrown at you, academic institutions will fight over you and say ‘hey do your research, we just want to support you and maybe we you know, take somewhat some your patents’ or whatever you know that there’s a path there, but the best martial artist in the world are not exploring martial arts. They are not bettering martial arts and moving it forward as I think most of us if we at least considerate would wish they would. And it’s because those opportunities aren’t available and hopefully in the coming years it will be an option, and you know full disclosure that something that we are hoping to do here at whistlekick, we are hoping to be able to take you know these amazing people when they retire from competition or you know they maybe they aren’t even competitors and say okay you know what you go spend the next three years and train and teach and explore and research and figure out what you want to figure out on this sort of sabbatical and then come back and share it with the rest of us. And where would traditional martial arts be now if we done that the last 20 years? It would be amazing.
Shelley Devine:
Yeah exactly I mean yeah there was never really a platform for it and I do think you know, now that there’s say you know these promotions out there you know UFC, they have bellator, those sorts of things. It does give anybody an option to actually excel on a platform and earn a living but it’s a short-term living compared to other sports or other you know.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Well let’s step out of this rabbit hole and jump into another one. Here we were, we told some stories. We heard about your origin story if you will and I’m sure you have others so I’d love for you to share with us your favorite martial arts story.
Shelley Devine:
My favorite. There’s a couple but one of it and this has been… Well when I started sidyotong, I was, there was a few other women there I was teaching and you have an occasional woman come in to class and it was another gateway class where it was like cardio kickboxing but we did put Muay Thai into it and there was this one girl that came in, woman, and she wanted to be a mixed martial arts fighter and but you know, to get there is a lot of process that you have to go through to get there but she, we were having a smoker at the gym and the smoker is an in-house unsanctioned opportunity to go hundred percent against your teammates. You know, you have to go through all the process of you know, having a fighter competing so you know, you might have to cut weight, yeah. You have to prepare, you have to train for it, you have a coach that’s coaching you, all that so she had begged me, begged me, begged me, begged me and I had no intention of really doing that but somehow my name came up and she basically beg me to do it and I was like okay you’re twisting my arm but it turns out that it brought back when I can remember being in that in the ring and it brought back like this little girl in me that wanted to do what the boys were doing and so that was a real high for me and a weird really weird sort of way. And then shortly after that [00:29:26.27] had been here and I got chance to and he’s the instructor, he’s the son of the instructor over in Thailand for sidyutong, and he’s been the lead instructor there for a lot of years and he was back here at the time too so I got to be in the in the ring and he held focus mitts for me and that was just sublime. I was like wow this this particular man is holding focus mitts for me or thigh pads for me and I’m getting to you know kick and punching and he’s guiding me through you know typical Muay Thai strikes and I just was in awe and I was blissful I just because he just had such knowledge and i’s like actually standing in the ring with him and then had an opportunity took over in Singapore while he was teaching a class that involved MMA, he was teaching and I got to open the class with some you know, some warm-up drills and he honored me they are in front of the whole male class and it just was, it was really hugely profound for me, really it meant so much to me to be treated as an equal and not looked at as you know, oh you’re a girl you can’t do that or I just I didn’t even have that feeling it was beyond all that and he’s really centered around I think on that was a huge, huge, huge time in my life I guess and it wasn’t just the one it was the combination of all that and I didn’t realize until now telling it that he was centered around that which is really was really kinda cool.
Jeremy Lesniak:
I’m imagining you in front of that group of men and just having that honor. What was going through your head? I’m imagining you are nervous…
Shelley Devine:
I wasn’t say just what I typically, you know it’s funny because I would do this warm up for the class back at it here in Boston and I used to do it all the time and I know it was appreciated but for some reason being there because it was, there was some guys that were professional fighters and there were students it was all mixed and was a fight team class and for me to lead it and the opening drills of it, it was just really and in another country even, you know it was I was just really, it was a bit surreal and I was just like just so blissed out and having fun, it was so fun and just really happy, just real, real happy I just felt like I was in my own spirit and uncompromised by anything yeah, it was really, it was a really great, great time.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Now, you said that you had a couple story? If you want we certainly have time until another one.
Shelley Devine:
Well, it was pretty much that, you know, having the fight, that was like a cool time. I’m trying to think let me see, some right now I
Jeremy Lesniak:
There’s something behind that laugh. I know what that laugh means.
Shelley Devine:
Well this one’s kind of funny. I think I was getting my brown belt over a small circle jujitsu and what how they do it, you know you go through all the tests you do you like they have a checklist of things that you going to do but at the end of it, they give you want to attack after another. And typically, it’s usually about maybe 10 attacks and you, you know people are lined up and they give you know, they’ll come at you with either a weapon or whatever they got you know. So, I’m standing there and I know how many would be. How many attacks it would be but I knew this was the end of it and a whole lineup of guys and the first one out was pretty like you know I’m 5’5 and half and he’s pretty tall guy pulling out close to 6 feet if not a little bit more, you know like a little taller. You know, big guy and I’m thinking there’s this whole lineup of guys and some of them have clubs and some of them have this and that you know? And I’m like I’m exhausted now as it is and because it is like a full day and I was like ‘ooh, I am going to set the pace for this right now and make this easy’ because I had seen how they were attacking other students and they were going you know not a hundred percent but it’s like, you know they’re going kinda hard and I’m like I can’t keep this up. So, I went low like the guy came at me I think he had a club or something, went I at me, I went in low grabbed him right by the family jewels, if you know what I mean and just held, and I looked around like a quick look but everybody knew this is what is going to come to him when I drop you guys fast and I’m telling you what I’m going for. Then everybody just like they came at me nice and easy after that. I went through, I mean it was still tough but I set the pace where if anybody was going to get wild with me or you know oh I’m gonna like you know especially sometimes white belts get a little  oh I’m gonna have to go against somebody who’s brown belt I gotta have to go hard against them. Everybody was like they all kind of like you know shifted their gis and held their junk in place and they came at me, kinda like a little you know, a little more with caution because they didn’t know, I just set the total tone of the class and then later at the end of it when I was handed my belt or whatever the instructor said yeah we gave you like about you know 10 more attacks than we usually do because of that whole set up they just wanted to see what I could do and it was really funny. But I just remember looking around and then one of the guys was happen to be an MMA fighter and you know, I don’t know if you ever notice that when you, you know when you’re in your element and you connect with like a spirit, the spirit of the soul of somebody and I could just see that little glint in his eye when I did I was like damn girl you just totally set the tone of what’s gonna happen you owned this room. And coming from him, the way he looked at me I was like yep, thank you and you know, just that it was recognized it was kinda cool it’s really a cool experience.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Nice. I’d like to talk about a time in your life when you know, maybe things were off, low, however you want to define it and how you were able to reflect on your martial arts or maybe it was a physical situation you used your martial arts to move past.
Shelley Devine:
Well I’ve a lot of loss in my life. I think martial arts has made me really a lot stronger in ways that I never would’ve imagined. You know I think, as human beings we come up against you know betrayal, we come up against being hurt in different ways whether or not we’re betrayer or somebody else is, we were human and we do things that you know we don’t feel good about and sometimes people do things to us that they don’t feel that great about either and we don’t feel that great about either. And I’ve had my share of that and I think who hasn’t and coming out of it, I think you know you always kinda have to move forward in any part of martial art training that I’ve experienced what it was with jujitsu or traditional jujitsu or karate or the Muay Thai, you’re always moving forward. But you gotta make sure that you keep yourself intact and how I mean that is you have to be accountable for or responsible for whatever actions you take so if you hit someone, I guess I’ll use this is an analogy, if you hit somebody you have to kind own it. Like you know, if you punched them you own it, if they punched you back you know you evade it or take the hit you’re like okay, I’m gonna move forwards, that hurt and I’m gonna move forward. So, I think, in life when you know, crappy things happen like I mean, I’ve been through a divorce that was kind of crappy. My sister died around the same time that was kinda crappy. It’s you feel the pain of loss but you know you have to get up and you have to kind of move forward because your people around you that you’re setting an example for. And I think martial arts has taught me to be a leader and you have to kind of yeah, I gotta get up and move. I got to keep going forward, journey hasn’t ended yet, I still have time here, I’m gonna make the best of it, I’m gonna best possible version of myself and martial arts has help me give me the strength that inner fortitude to be able to do that because I know a side of myself that I didn’t know before like from that day I hit the bag, I recognize something in me that wasn’t being, that wasn’t fully being expressed and martial arts help me express that.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Of all the people that you’ve trained with and under you’ve named a few names, if you had to pick one who was the most influential, the person who without their guidance or training or whatever it was, you would be a completely different person, a completely different martial artist. Who would that be?
Shelley Devine:
People that I’ve trained with already? I would be some somehow different if I can train them?
Jeremy Lesniak:
Yeah who would you know, if you were accepting an award you know, who’s gonna to be that first person that you say, you know without so-and-so I wouldn’t be here today. Or is there a person maybe there isn’t?
Shelley Devine:
You know I don’t think there really is. I think that’s an interesting question and that the people that I attracted into my life and saying in martial arts that have been present there for me. They’re not the only ones that have guided me, or… They’ve been a reflection I guess of something that was in me already and that might sound really egotistical but I don’t mean it that way it’s just about self-discovery and these people might have held up piece of me somewhere and I had to go collect it. So, it would be a combination of many, many, many people that I’ve interacted with over my lifetime which is a bit profound and I’m feeling like as I’m saying this in describing it’s almost like oh wow I didn’t know that about me until really this moment.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Cool. What I’m hearing from you doesn’t sound egotistical at all it sounds like another way of expressing when the student is ready, the master will appear which exists in our world so much that it’s become a cliché. It’s something that we see in martial arts films dating back quite a ways and a lot of us have experienced it and you’re just looking at the situation from a slightly different perspective so, it doesn’t come across that way to me. Now if we flip the question who would you want to train?
Shelley Devine:
That’s kind of a fun question because there’s some really cool people out there that train in martial arts that are really neat. I used to think, which is kind of funny Anderson Silva just because of the way he moves and he interacts like when he would, when he would fight the ring or in the cage. I just thought his style and he was exploring so many different things, not necessarily train with him but I like to go see how he trains and like just be like him vicariously like watch him train. And I think Connor McGregor would be another one. He has recently been trained with Ido Portal and I’m not sure if you’re familiar with him.
Jeremy Lesniak:
I am familiar with him. He is, he is a brilliant man and someone I look up to when it comes to movement.
Shelley Devine:
Yeah, I think you know seeing movement, you know he use movement and then Connor McGregor kinda going to that then it’s not just they’re martial arts aspect of it’s just how they create their world and their life in and what’s important to them and the people that are behind them I find that fascinating and into that there such purpose Wendy perfectionist isn’t really the right term but they execute their craft well and they’re really focused and I admire that. I find Ronda Rousey another one too I admire even though she’s trained in different things but it’s how she’s living her life and she is a true martial artist. Another one that I Miesha Tate. I wasn’t always a fan of hers, I you know, I and now I look at her far differently now that she’s kind of a little more removed from being a fighter and then how she’s interacting with other fighters and training other practitioners coming up. I think she would be kind of really cool to train with a little bit but I think you know Jackie Chan might be kinda fun.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Who wouldn’t want to train with Jackie Chan I mean, come on.
Shelley Devine:
I think it would be hilarious like, just or jet li or something like that. Just they are and you know if Bruce lee was still alive, he’s another one. Just sitting in the room with them you know and listening to them speak or watching them I think that would be really kinda cool thing to do.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Absolutely. Do you watch movies? You know you mentioned a couple martial arts actors there, is that is not a thing for you?
Shelley Devine:
Yeah. You know what I recently just watched and I’m like oh my god this was so good was atomic blonde. I was like oh my word. Her moves in that were so you know, just amazing to me and I don’t know who choreographed all the moves that she performed in that movie. I was just like wow just a cool movie I really liked it.
Jeremy Lesniak:
It was a fun movie I certainly enjoyed watching it and it’s one that hasn’t come up too much on the show of course, Charlize Theron is the star for anyone that hasn’t seen it but I was actually just working on pulling up to did that and of course the imdb mobile website is not the easiest to use.
Shelley Devine:
I just thought about that at the top of my head because I had just watched it and I and I like I could watch it again just for I mean, of course I love style clothing and everything in that she is [00:47:03.03] but I just thought it was really well choreographed and I usually you know, I like all the funny stuff, I like Jackie Chan all his and I can’t think of any of the names of his movies but I always enjoy watching him like when he does that you know the drunken kind of masters and just how he is able to do all these you know stunts and then I always like jet li. I always like the way he moved in his movies and the philosophical kind of you know, him being a master and always know that good and evil kind of thing I was going for the good. There were some other really good ones what is it crouching tiger and then there was that one this kind of a funny one, can’t think of the name of it.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Its ok. There’s a bunch of them.
Shelley Devine:
Yeah there’s so many.
Jeremy Lesniak:
There are.
Shelley Devine:
Those aren’t usually like if there’s gonna be something on like martial arts movie, I have to see it. [00:48:13.08] a lot of good striking and you like a little twisted.
Jeremy Lesniak:
I think I think we all are I think you have to be as I certainly do not coined did not coined this phrase but I don’t know where it doesn’t came from, the idea that we get together, we choose to hit our friends. You know were kicking our friends in the head or punching them in the face, that takes a special kind of person. How about books?
Shelley Devine:
I actually just for this, I’m actually getting I just ordered a couple books that have been written by some fighters and some judo practitioners that one is Ronda Rousey’s my fight your fight and Kayla Harrison she’s also
Jeremy Lesniak:
You like the judo women it seems?
Shelley Devine:
well you know what? They get some attention because maybe they’re Olympic athletes and they’re’ a little more known out there for that and they actually came from you know, they trained in this area with jimmy Pedro and you now and they have books you now and I think they are a pathway for other women to come up. I think that’s probably why I am a little fascinated with them.
Jeremy Lesniak:
And of course, I reached out to both of them no one from Ronda Rousey’s camp is written back but have had some emails exchanged with folks on Kayla’s end so fingers crossed that that will happen at some point whenever on the show. What are your goals? You’re still talking about martial arts in the present tense, so I’m gonna imagine there are things you’re looking to accomplish.
Shelley Devine:
Well I’d like to, I’ve been out of training for a few months just because I moved. I do need to get back to it but I am in the process of working on this podcast so I’ll be interviewing other women that are involved in martial arts and so that’s kind of a goal and then creating some digital online products for you know that involved martial arts training I guess and then maybe helping MMA fighters to help them recover from injuries or keep them injury free, that’s one of the things so I’m kinda looking at those things. As far as training goes, I was training in an MMA class like learning to do take downs again and then I just bounced back into doing the Muay Thai kickboxing because I just love it, it’s just so much fun just you know going into a class and maybe light sparring any of that or learning a new technique of learning a new combination, just those things. It’s very simple, I don’t have just staying consistent in it, over the long haul over the long term. You know, for years and years and not, not doing it. You know, I think that’s pretty much the goal is just staying really consistent in going and doing a class and keep learning. Cause you never know who the instructor is going to be to like you know, what are they gonna teach you that day its gonna come up, you know.
Jeremy Lesniak:
And of course, any of the women that have been on the show the I might be able to make an introduction to, if you want by all means happy to.
Shelley Devine:
Sure, that will be great thank you.
Jeremy Lesniak:
You’re welcome. Hey, were all in this together you know and you know there are people out there that and you know some time I get an email you know you’re helping other martial arts podcast you know, one of my best friends in the martial arts is Jared Wilson who hosts martial thoughts which is probably the podcast most similar to this one out there and we’ve become good friends because of that. You know and I look at it as a parallel to martial arts. Were all doing similar things, but we’re doing them in our own way, for our own reasons and why not lift everybody up? You know let’s make each other better.
Shelley Devine:
Absolutely that’s a great, great way to be you know unifying people and, yeah there shouldn’t be this fear of oh you know they’re gonna you know tap into your business or whatever it is you know, because it’s like now you can have your you to develop your audience. People are gonna like you for you and they’re gonna listen to you for you. For a very specific reasons because of your originality and don’t realize that.
Jeremy Lesniak:
People are silly. Now if some of the non-silly people out there listening or even the silly ones, if they want to reach out to you and how can they find out about you and your podcast and the other stuff that you’ve got going on you know, let’s call this commercial time and just let it rip.
Shelley Devine:
Okay so it would be for my podcasts it’s evolve WMMA. I do have a blog there too, I’ll be writing about you know some of the current fights that are coming up to with say the UFC or bellator and invicta fc and I also do an outdoor fitness boot camp if you’re in the Boston area. Yeah and that’s evolve boot camp, so evolve is one of those names that just goes with everything that I do. Just look for that, you’ll find me.
Jeremy Lesniak:
are you on social media?
Shelley Devine:
I am. I have a Facebook page for women’s mix martial arts, it’s I love WMMA and yeah, I would probably be at an evolve boot camp.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Well of course we’re gonna link all that stuff over on the show notes whistlekickmartialartsradio.com so those of you that might be new to the show that didn’t know about that or those of you driving you know, let’s not risk vehicular manslaughter as you try and jot down domain names. Alright, well thank you for being here and I’d love for you to send this off with just some parting words, wisdom or what have you for the folks listening today.
Shelley Devine:
Oh well just if you’re on a martial arts journey are you having started one, you might want to get into the gym and try it out. It’s a long road ahead but it’s a wonderful journey you’ll make great friends great acquaintances, there’s just a great group of folks that train in martial arts and I love it and I think you will too.
Jeremy Lesniak:
One of my favorite things about this show is that, we get such different people from different backgrounds, different experiences to talk about their journeys through the martial arts and if you like that makes me not only a better martial artist and host of the show, but a better person and that was how I felt even from the beginning of today’s episode that Ms. Devine has a different perspective, not just as a woman, but as someone who’s trained in different arts who started at a different time in life and really has embraced that and made martial arts her life and her lifestyle. You know, I respect that so thank you Ms. Divine for coming on the show. If you want the show notes those are at whistlekickmartialartsradio.com we’ve got pictures and a bunch other great stuff, check that out if you want to follow us on social media we are @whistlekick Facebook, YouTube, twitter, Instagram bunch other places and if you want to get a hold of me directly, you can it’s [email protected]. Hopefully you’ll head on over to whistlekick.com check of the stuff that were making and we’ve got new stuff adding all the time. Seriously. If you saw the pile of samples, products in development on my desk right now it’s insane. We’re growing so fast, so much fun, kinda scary though. That’s a whole other episode maybe we will talk about that sometime. Enough of the sidetracking those tangents, got enough of that, today didn’t you? Until next time. Train hard, smile and have a great day.
