Thoughts on Indigo

- Namjoon is amazing, full stop.

- him showing us his insecurities, his empty feelings, the not so beautiful emotions (but still so beautiful to Army) is amazing, truly a gift

- the last song on his album has given me a lot of thought, combined with Yet to Come, with J-Hope’s album, and with Astronaut - to me these individual works and what they’ve done together paint the most amazing picture. Don’t look back, the best is yet to come, be honest about your feelings, even in the darkness, and although we have to be apart, we will be okay, we will grow (like those nameless wildflowers), and we will come together again.

—to go deeper: The overarching message that ends Namjoon’s album is to look ahead, and Hobi’s is that at the bottom of Pandora’s box of pain and suffering is hope - and Jin, I mean his is that he has walked this path with us and we can handle his absence, and that’ll he’ll be back. To have hope for when he’s returned

— Combined with Yet to Come, together and apart the boys are telling stories of their pain but also their hopes

— there is sadness, But there is also happiness too, and family - it seems that the boys realize there are seasons to it all, for suffering and exultation. Right now, with things like Jin going into service, etc. those changes and growing pains hurt

- his statement about those nameless wildflowers seems like such an analogy to army, and even making them purple in the MV? Priceless.

— And I think why Namjoon was so insistent on his album being listened to in order was because he knows us well enough to know that we will focus on his pain, and he doesn’t want that

Anyway, I love him, he loves us, and we will continue to run - the Best moment is yet to come!

Ala Ebtekar, Thirty-Six Views of the Moon (from the San Jose Museum of Art)

Cyanotype prints on found book pages exposed to moonlight.

Thirty-six Views of the Moon is a collection of night exposures, left from dusk till dawn and exposed by moonlight on book pages from texts referencing the moon and night sky spanning the last ten centuries. Working with photographic negatives of the Moon from the Lick Observatory archives in Northern California and treating each book page with Potassium ferricyanide and Ammonium ferric citrate (cyanotype) to make the surface of the page light-sensitive, the pages are then exposed overnight by the UV-light emitted by the moon. The work takes its cue from a poem by Omar Khayyam that imagines us as the objects of the Moon’s omnipresent gaze and, in response, produces a vignette of windows on the Moon that abstract the typical celestial gaze, merging galaxy with ground to collapse space and time. As blue as my jeans.

That was what he told me when I asked him about his inspiration, and I couldn’t understand it. His favourite colour was blue, that melancholic feeling that he gets at the mention of it and the sight of it. “As blue as my jeans.” he repeated with a smile. Because jeans are hard, it’s something that you need to break into, and with time it will get soft but it’s still a tough material. A reference to his character, and a reference to his experiences that shaped him, still a melancholy boy made out of tough material that has gone soft over the years.

I loved him then, but I love him more now.
