Cursed Tamagotchi RPG
🔥 Final cover art by Evangeline Gallagher for PARABYTE by @goblinmixtape for The Lost Bay RPG KS - cursed tamagotchi user manual Will you let them feed on Fresh Blood and Memories? Will you still love them once they grow into a Torso with a hundred hands or a Fleshy Millipede?
You guys, I'm super excited about this contribution by Sam. It's so wild, written in a super fun way. A great module to hook into your campaign, to play solo, or just to enjoy reading and grin :)
It's written like an in-game user manual, and will take you through all the steps to grow your own hellish tamagotchi
I'm so grateful it's in The Lost Bay pack, but above all, I can't wait to play it!

Would you let them feed on you?

"And don't ever forget, you're never alone in those woods."
I'm so proud of this piece! I wrote a folk horror journaling game, and right before you get to the prompts, you'll turn the page to this spread.
If you'd like to see what I mean, take a look at the free preview!
If you want to help me fund a print run of the game, please follow the Kickstarter!

Wanna ttrpg with cards instead of dice? Want to create a world and then burn it with your friends? Do you like Enneagrams? Open up a nice deck, gather some friends, and enjoy a GMless dose of Neon Shadows! Play as one of the 9 ennegram based playbooks, create a world with a blank map, and begin to tell the story of your characters as they follow their desires. Will you save the city from a ruthless govt? Maybe trek the wilderness of the world outside the city? Explore old Aether mines? It's your story to tell, how will you tell it?

There comes a point in every high-concept indie RPG author's career when one must ask: "Is this piece of orthodox rules tech I'm carefully avoiding really objectively bad, or is it merely present in D&D?"

The Kickstarter for Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy is Live!!
Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy is our team’s debut TTRPG, over three years in the making! The campaign will run from April 10th to May 10th!
youtube
How far would you go to learn the truth?
Play amateur detectives caught up in things they barely understand, and explore how the lives of your characters unravel as they push themselves to dig deeper into the unknown!
Tumblr media
Tense investigations!
Delve into an investigation-focused mystery and horror system that lets players take initiative and use their characters’ unique strengths to find clues and deduce conclusions themselves. A few bad rolls won’t get the party hopelessly stuck, but at the same time Eureka respects their intellect and lets them take charge of solving the mystery!
Tumblr media
Character-driven gameplay!
Stats and abilities are based on who your character is as a person. Freeform character creation allows you to build a totally unique little guy, and have a totally unique gameplay experience with him! This is supported by the backbone of the Composure mechanic. Stress, fear, fatigue, and hunger will wear your investigators down as they trudge deeper into the unknown. Food, sleep, and connections with their fellow investigators are the only way to keep them going!
Tumblr media
Secrets inside and out!
Any investigator could be a monster, helping their friends while trying not to reveal their true natures. The party will learn to trust and rely on each other, or explode into a tangled net of drama!
Tumblr media
Intense, tactical combat!
Hits are devastating, and misses are unpredictable–firing a gun will always change the situation somehow, for better or for worse!
Tumblr media
Now in Technicolor!
Evocative artwork from talented femme-fatales @chaospyromancy and @qsycomplainsalot and the mysterious @theblackwarden paint a gorgeously-realized portrait of a world with shadows lurking in every corner.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Elegantly designed and thoroughly playtested, Eureka represents the culmination of three years of near-daily work from our team, as well as a lot of our own money. We are almost at the end, we just need some financial support to put the finishing touches on it and make the final push to get it ready for official release!
With every stretch goal we meet, the game gets better and better. Tons of beautiful new artwork, new options for gameplay, and even two entirely new playable Monsters could be added to the book, so visit the Kickstarter and secure your copy today!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you want to try before you buy, you can download a free demo of the prerelease version from our website or our itch.io page!
If you’re interested in a more updated and improved version of Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy than the free demo you got from our website, subscribe to our Patreon where we frequently roll our new updates for the prerelease version!
You can also support us on Ko-fi, or by checking out our merchandise!
Join our TTRPG Book Club At the time of writng this, Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy is the current game being played in the book club, and anyone who wants to participate in discussion, but can’t afford to make a contribution, will be given the most updated prerelease version for free! Plus it’s just a great place to discuss and play new TTRPGs you might not be able to otherwise!
We hope to see you there, and that you will help our dreams come true and launch our careers as indie TTRPG developers with a bang by getting us to our base goal and blowing those stretch goals out of the water, and fight back against WotC's monopoly on the entire hobby. Wish us luck.

TTRPG Design For Evil
In my somehow unending quest to write the worst TTRPG, I have designed the following:
What Little The Flames Leave Us, a game where you light your character sheet on fire and put it out. Repeatedly. To pass basic checks.
Fear No Evil, where you throw a d4 into a room, turn the lights off, take your shoes off, and then stride fearlessly through.
Bottom Gun, where you can only take actions by texting emojis at the GM, who has to interpret them.
Sexyback, where there's one player and like an entire greek chorus of GMs who vote on the player's next actions.
And finally Hot In Here: A Game Of Antarctic Exploration, where you play as members of the Shackleton expedition and the mechanics consist of stripping, but there's also a counter mechanic where you can put clothes on other people.

Have you played VOID 1680 AM ?
By Ken Lowery
Tumblr media
With a deck of cards, a six-sided die and a stack of music, you will build a 12 song playlist, invent and interact with Callers to your show, and evolve their stories in a single session or ongoing play. No matter their motivations, they simply must be heard. In that way, you are very alike.

VAST Guides are here!
By using VAST, you can learn how to add accessibility tags for screen readers to your PDFs, by using Adobe InDesign and Adobe Acrobat.
I'm super excited to release a brand new publishing community resource: VAST (or Visual Accessibility Skills Toolkit).
VAST is a collection of short articles aiming to spread awareness about what visual impairments are, and how folks in the small press industry can accommodate them.
The guides are split into four sections:
Visual Impairment 101 explores what visual impairments are, how visually impaired people navigate digital content, and introduces some current language and definitions (circa 2023).
Screen reading PDFs explores the basics of how screen readers navigate through digital content. Includes video examples!
Using InDesign introduces different tools that designers can use to make their documents more accessible.
Putting Into Practice presents case studies of common structures in roleplaying games, and how they could be given accessibility tags using tools covered in section 3. (Coming soon!)
Tumblr media
VAST was developed by Brian Tyrrell (me!), and disability advocate and accessibility consultant Yubi Coates. Visually impaired consultants and InDesign experts were brought in to corroborate the guides.
All of the information in the guides is up to date, and we’re committed to reviewing and updating the guides in 2024 and 2025.
This project was completed using a small pot of funding provided by Creative Scotland’s Create: Inclusion program in 2022.

The Lost Bay - First Look Release
Your one-way ticket for the 90s that never were.
Tumblr media
Today is the day! after countless play tests and tweaks The Lost Bay - First Look has been released digitally. In it you play as a young person touched by the Weird, an ancient force that gives you supernatural powers. You roam the Bay with your gang, its malls, arcade games shops, skateparks and beaches, and fight the Horror that has awakened.
Key features of the game:
1. You play Vibes. Each vibe has a distinct flavor and set of powers. You can play as Splinter, Screamer, Scanner, Firestarter, and many more. Vibes are granted custom growth opportunities: every time they fail at using a power they get a Scar, and this can include getting new powers, or discovering something about the Bay.
Tumblr media
2.The lore of The Lost Bay is spread throughout the ruleset, tables, and game procedures. You’ll discover it as you create your character and play, without having to read boring lore text blocks. The lore of the Bay is embedded in the items, powers, Scars and NPCs you’ll encounter.
3.Open and play. Three attributes, two resources to manage (Heart and Weird), one mechanic to rule it all: a D6 dice pool. If you have a basic knowledge of tabletop RPGs you’ll need fifteen minutes to familiarize yourself with the ruleset.
GET THE LOST BAY FIRST LOOK
4.Weird is cool. And there’s a lot of it in the Bay: cults, curses, relics, and Living Saints. The Lost Bay is both a familiar playground and an uncanny world that portrays an alternate version of the 90s. It’s wicked enough to give you the chills, and it’s open enough for you to expand it the way you like.
Why the 90s?
Because they’re a decade where the ancient analog world mixes with the modern digital one. This mix creates infinite clashes and conflicts, ideal to spark tabletop RPG adventures, and horror stories.
The Bay itself is the incarnation of this contrast. Ancient creatures and forces dwell right next to modern technology and buildings. Even the playable characters embody this duality: they are archetypes inspired by the late 80s/90s media and culture, but their powers derive from the ancient and mysterious forces.

What you’ll get in the First Look edition?
Spooky Locations
Scary MOFOs
Supernatural Horror
Powerful Vibes
Loads of items
Relics
Living Saints and immortals
Story sparks
VHS, arcade games, skateboards, evil cults, demons, ghosts, blood and fear.
You can get the First look edition right now at an affordable price. The game PDF is updated on a weekly basis, and its price will increase as new sections are added. Meaning that the earliest you get it, the less you’ll pay for it. Pretty neat right? Funds collected will allow commissioning more art from Evangeline Gallagher and to pay for editing.
Have you ever wanted to play a zombie or a ghost? Now you can!
This week’s update features two new Vibes (playable character classes): the Half-Dead, and the Spirit. To unlock them you have to die first, and if you’re lucky enough you’ll become a Reborn. You might even get a Zombie cat pet.
MINIDUNGEON
If you have little time on your hands and are looking for a ready to play horror adventure compatible with The Lost Bay check UNIT DH-17. This suburban horror mini dungeon has been updated to fit The Lost Bay ruleset.
You can also get them both as a bundle with a 20% discount here https://itch.io/s/99423/the-lost-bay-rules-adventure

Weird is beautiful
Want to know where this game comes from, what it’s really about?
I grew up in an environment where toxic masculinity was the rule. Both at home, and outside of it. And by toxic, I mean horror-movie level toxic. Murders, blood and all. That was just the way things were, the world of the grown ups. Normalcy. I didn’t find that normal at all! I was pretty scared most of the time. But I was lucky enough to be part of a gang of kind souls. We loved each other and helped us survive the harsh world of the Bay. We were Geeks, Punks, Queers and Dreamers. The normies called us Weird. At first that felt hurtful, and it took me years to understand that being “Weird” is more than ok, that “Weird” is beautiful. Eventually, I made “Weird” my one-word motto, and used to wear a Why be normal? pin. I was proud of my Weirdness. Things felt better, the Bay was my playground, I loved its marshes, forests, beaches and skateparks. I was happy.
Then one day, something unexpected happened. I had to leave the Bay, without notice. Like in the movies. At dawn, hiding, in secret. I didn’t come back for more than 15 years. During that exile the Bay grew in my mind like a place of fantasy, and actual memories blended with fiction. The Lost Bay became a dream, partly familiar, partly alien, a place of wonder shrouded in a terrifying mystery.
TAKE ME TO THE LOST BAY
The Lost Bay - First Look is the travel guide to this wondrous and wicked place I’m offering to you. If you accept the invitation you’ll play beautiful and powerful characters, you’ll fight the horror in breathtaking combats, and rewrite the Lost Bay’s history.

Shouting out into the void for this one but: any tips for someone who legitimately gave up ttrpg game dev because of both stress over not being able to translate my ideas into the dice stuff and the realization i could not logically make a living out of it but now wants to get back at it with risus or a original system?

I don't disagree that there's some level of congruence between filmgoers who defend narrow viewership by acting like it's a binary choice between watching the latest MCU film and watching black-and-white Eastern European art films about depression, and tabletop RPG players who defend narrow playership by acting like it's a binary choice between playing Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition and playing one-page diceless storygames about gay catgirls smoking cigarettes.
The difference, of course, is that folks who advocate expanding one's cinematic horizons are rarely advocating going straight from watching the latest MCU film to watching black-and-while Eastern European art films about depression, whereas folks who advocate expanding one's tabletop roleplaying horizons very often are, in fact, advocating going straight from playing Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition to playing one-page diceless storygames about gay catgirls smoking cigarettes.
