Blue Lock AU Thought Dump
Hi, I'm Comet and I have this massive AU that's taking up way too much space in my mind. So I'm just gonna dump it all here. This is basically a self-insert in second person pov lmao (if you recognise me no you don't)
I'm not a writer so it's just going to be random plot bits. Had to guess parts of the timeline to make it work...
Parings: possibly Sae x reader??? Idk lol, Ness is pretty cute
Timeline:
Age 2:
Your family moves into the Itoshi's neighbourhood
Your mom becomes besties with Mrs Itoshi
You befriend Sae (3) and Rin (1)
You enter kindergarten a year early (with Sae)
Age 5-10:
You attend primary school and develop an interest in data analysis while observing the Itoshi brothers' football practice (think Momoi from KnB)
Age 11:
You enter middle school with Sae
Sae (12) gets scouted and goes to Spain
You go abroad to study and get into coding (and eventually machine-learning + AI)
You remain close with Rin (10) but drift apart from Sae
Age 15:
Sae (16) briefly returns to Japan at the same time as you
The fated fight occurs and you take Rin's (14) side
While you understand Sae's pov, you do not agree with his approach and additionally blow up at Sae for being distant and not communicating
Communication with Sae completely stops
Age 16/17 – Present:
You graduate and return to Japan after deciding to take a gap year
You land a job as a lab assistant at a university research lab which somehow leads to you becoming a part-time manager/data analyst at Blue Lock
Notes:
Rin views you as a big sibling and calls you (name)-nii/nee (gender neutral honorific where?).
You are super observant and have an innate talent for spotting trends.
Where you study doesn't really matter but I did it with the UK (England specifically) in mind. Cuz I studied there and they have an extra year of secondary school compared to Japan. Also, the UK does year group cut-offs at September while Japan goes by birth year (I think...) so international students usually round down even if they can technically enter the year above. But you're smart so they put you in the year above.
Also, British slang is fucking hilarious and I want silly Manshine antics.
Unlike the US, it is really hard to skip grades in most other countries since the curriculums are so rigid but with this I can make Reader graduate early without making it too contrived lmao.
Also, independent schools (private schools but that means something else in the UK) tend to force you to learn all modern foreign language in lower years before you decide on your GCSE language. So I can have Reader have rudimentary understanding of French, Spanish and German. Full coverage baby!
The specific language you pick doesn't really matter but it's NOT Spanish (cuz Sae)
It's actually pretty much impossible to get a placement at a research lab right out of highschool cus demand is insane (I would know 😭😭) but let's pretend you have a super banging resume cuz you're smart as fuck idk
Still undecided on exactly when you join BL tho cuz I need Sae to be taken by surprise about you being there but I also want Reader to bond with the boys before NEL. Especially Shidou. So after third selection but a few days before Sae takes Shidou? Coincidentally, you are off-site for whatever reason.
Also, I want Reader to drag Rin out for the outing during the post U-20 break.
Hmm introducing Reader right after the win would also be interesting. Especially with Rin being in peak-angst mode. I want himself to do another behavioural 180° (more like 120°). Sae wouldn't be there cuz he'd be in the U-20 changing rooms. The outing thing could still happen if you exchange numbers with Bachira.
Actually, I like this idea more so I'm going with that. The Shidou bonding could wait.
Job description:
The next bits are completely pseudo-science and I'm bs-ing 💀💀
Anyway, the lab develops simulations of athletes as a training aid. They're collaborating with Blue Lock cuz where else can you find such a large sample size of athletes at a similar stage of development who also conveniently wear fancy biosignal-recording suits 90% of the time? Literally no where.
The only issue is that all the data is stored in servers located in the compound and, for data-protection reasons, need to be completely anonymised. For plot reasons, someone needs to be on-site most of the time to sort out server shit.
The data stuff is real in the UK and EU btw. That's why there's such a big fuss about certain US corps selling personal info. Not sure about Japan in particular tho but most BL participants are also underage so...
This is actually the reason they hired you lol. Especially since you're already familiar with the sport.
So you now have the job of making sure the data is being anonymised and transferred properly while the lab sends you occasional projects to work on. Which isn't too bad but Ego decided to make you a part-time manager to assist Anri (who's super busy with BLTV's explosive popularity) after witnessing your analytical skills.
At least it's amazing for your resume and you're paid EXTREMELY well...

Hopefully this puts things in greater perspective because some tourists just don’t get it and need to hear this. For those who are curious and looking to travel in the future I hope you find this is informative! :) We could all use more perspective on linguistics and traveling imho. I have made some of these mistakes in the past too. We can all learn to be better guests/tourists. This mindset people have that not only is it okay for tourists to exploit and mistreat local populations, but it’s something that should be encouraged is wrong. You’re not entitled to anything special as a tourist just because you have enough money to play around somewhere “exotic” for a few weeks. Regardless of where people travel to. As a guest in someone else’s home you should put more effort into not being a total asshat. You will have a better time and you might learn something cool along the way. I will mostly be using France as an example since I live here and have more insight, but everything I say applies outside of France as well. Note: This information only applies to tourists. Immigrants and refugees are a unique situation and thus face different challenges and have different needs. A tourist chooses where to go and has time (and money) to plan for their trip, which is often only a few weeks or days. Immigrants and refugees often don’t have that same luxury and remain in the country for far longer. (in many cases permanently) Moving to a country places a greater linguistic and cultural demand on an individual. Remember to check your privilege. tourism =/= immigration/asylum. A) English is not the only language in existence. It might be a widely spoken language, but it’s not the most widely spoken language (that honor goes to Chinese) nor is it the only lingua franca. Chinese, Hindu, Spanish, French, and Arabic are all widely spoken across multiple borders and where you are on the planet will obviously dictate which one of these people go with. If you expect that to be English because your sphere of the internet happens to put you in that bubble of “my language or bust” ignorance then like... that’s on you pal. Get with the times and stop assuming everyone should just speak English. English speakers are not the only tourists and English, though widely used, is not the only other language a person might need. I have a friend from Laos who speaks absolutely no English. He doesn’t need it and never has. (even now) He speaks Lao (the regional dialects can be as different as Thai is from Laotian btw), Chinese, a bit of Thai, and French because they still use a lot of French for business dealings there. (something I didn’t know ngl) Assuming he should just speak English because “everyone else does” is ignorant. It’s rude. It puts no thought into his situation. It’s entitled. He’s traveled to visit friends in England and he has an English phrase book. He doesn’t need a lot of English so like... the phrase book is absolutely perfect. Most of what he does in England is sight see and speak Chinese with his friends. Be more like my friend from Laos. B) Official languages may not be the only language a country speaks within its borders. Regional and native languages exist and expecting the locals to speak a 3rd language on top of all that is unbelievably entitled. France has a number of them. There are people who are born and raised in France who don’t speak French in their day to day life. (or at all) Basque, Breton, Occitan, Alsatian, Yiddish, Ladino, Arabic and a number of others are all spoken within French borders. Many are at risk of being permanently lost (that’s why our new regional language law is important btw) and as a result a greater emphasis is placed on preserving them as opposed to learning something new. Most people have to learn the official language as it’s the only language a lot of countries will accept for paperwork, but anything else is up to the individual and you can suck an egg if you don’t like that. (this also applies to immigrants and refugees btw) Heck there are places in the US where people don’t even speak English day to day! Some places actually speak French or Spanish. I heard more Spanish in my day to day life than I did English where I grew up in NC! (moved to Florida and Spanish exploded. loved it!) C) Borders are a thing. People working and living across borders exist and English is often not the language they chose to go with as a result. France borders Germany, Spain, Italy, Belgium, England, and Switzerland. People who share these borders often choose to go with these languages. English is in there, but please note it’s not the only one. D) Culturally speaking a country may not like [insert common language here] and as a result may refuse to speak it. That’s entirely their choice. If you don’t like that then don’t visit the country. It’s really that easy.  Colonialism is often a major factor at play in these situations. Respect that choice. You do not get a say in how people reclaim their identity. As for France? This might come as a shock to some people, but France doesn’t like England. I’m 100% certain these two places exist solely to punch each other in the nuts. (ball tap. an international past time) As a result getting English people to speak French or French people to speak English is about as easy as pulling your own teeth. I’ve been spit on for speaking English because people here just assume I’m from England or they hate “annoying Americans” and after seeing how y’all responded to the last post I made... yeah I totally get it now. Granted, that’s no excuse for someone being hostile, but it is something to keep in mind when you visit and applies to more than just France too. E) Retail workers and small shop owners don’t owe you shit. You have absolutely no right waltzing into a shop and demanding the staff speak your language (I don’t care how common it is) for the two weeks you’ve decided to play around in their home. Always ask them first. If they can’t or choose not to then tough luck. This is why a phrase book is important!
Tumblr media
Retail workers and small shop owners get treated like shit enough. Some of y’all have never worked retail a day in your life and WOW does it show. Please respect retail workers and small shop owners. You don’t know what their day or life has been like. If they’re tired and don’t want to speak to you in a foreign language then that’s their right. I have had no issues using my phone or a phrase book to help communicate concepts when there is a language barrier. (and I fucking live in France. I’m not even visiting) Emergencies also happen and a phrase book or medical card in the native and/or official language is absolutely essential! Even if you just have an allergy to something! This is a great way to stay safe! When you visit another country being aware of and researching cultural differences includes linguistic differences. Tourists are guests. You don’t live here, you don’t get a say. Remember, learning a second language (esp if you don’t use it often) is really hard. If you’re visiting a country do not expect them to just use whatever language you speak. Mind you a phrase book is also important because people within a country may not have a strong grasp on English even if they do speak it. You can very easily get lost or injured without a phrase book to help you. These things allow you to better experience a country and communicate without actually having to learn the entire language... or any of it. And, once again, they exist for free online! You do not need to learn an entire language to visit somewhere, but you need to be prepared for there to be a barrier. People assuming I mean you need to learn a whole language are uh... really something else. Like do you guys think half the people bending over backwards to communicate with you know the full language? Go ahead. Fuck around and find out. ;) Obviously I’m not saying you should be treated poorly when visiting if you don’t know the language. Unfortunately no matter how much effort you put in there will always be someone who’s a jerk and I’m sorry for that. All I’m saying is as a tourist you owe it to yourself and others to be better prepared. Trust me. You’ll have a better time in the end. (and if you did the research you’d find that Paris is not the best first place to visit... even if you’re french lol) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GS64ZT4eWUA Please watch this guy’s video. It is hilarious and touches on a lot of the same points I just made. Thank you for your time. :) ---------------- Cultural tidbit for those who are curious about where I live in France: I live in Alsace currently! (moved from Lyon, but my spouse is from here) In Alsace you might meet people who speak English, but it’s also entirely likely you won’t! Alsace is also a very tourist heavy area because it looks like a German fairy tale and has a lot of tiny villages with cool stuff to do! I highly recommend visiting here over Paris! We have so many storks! (clackclackclack)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our logo is a pretzel!
Tumblr media
That being said, Alsace has its own regional language!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s not uncommon to see bilingual signage or to pass someone on the street and hear them speaking Alsatian. You’ll usually hear it from older people, children, or those from rural areas. It’s really fun to listen to and absolutely wild to see written on museum signs!  Kids here will start school learning French, regardless of what they speak at home, which has resulted in a downswing of Alsatian speakers in recent years. That’s why the new regional language law I mentioned waaaaaay above is so important. It’ll allow schools to teach most of the day in Alsatian instead of French with the goal being fully bilingual adults! :) As of right now, most kids here choose German or English (depending on the school) as their second language. Some kids pick Alsatian and honestly? Good for them! I’m glad!

”LA DIVERSIÓN EN IDIOMAS”
The title above is translated as, “The fun in languages”, something that I never really felt and had at the beginning. Ever since the quarantine started, I really did not plan to do anything nor to improve myself in any of my hobbies at all. Maybe it’s because I expected that all these crisis will be over in a week or two, which obviously and sadly, did not happen. Before, I just like to play my musical instruments, paint, and I got into Korean Dramas as well because of my friends. Sometimes, I bond with my pets and do cooking experiments too. All of these are done in order for me to avoid boredom. However, as time goes by, those things became a bit dull to me and I felt the need to discover something new.
Let me share a bit of my journey first.
As I watch Korean Dramas, I got this tendency to copy what they say and it became a habit of mine whenever I want to express something. So instead of saying, “Salamat” or “Thank you”, I often say, “감사”(gam-sa) which is an informal way of saying “Thank you” in Korean. Also, “안녕”(an-nyeong) which means “Hi”, “네”(ne) which means “Yes”, “아니”(ah-ni) which means “No” and many more. At that time, I didn’t know how to read their alphabet yet but because of my curiosity, I’ve thought of studying it. Surprisingly, I learned “한글”(han-geul) or the Korean Alphabet in just a day! Nine total hours to be exact. I was dumbfounded by how I was able to understand that in just a short manner of time. This inspired me to continue moving forward until I decided to finally learn the Korean language.
In the middle of my journey learning the said language, I began to encounter a lot of interesting facts about it. Such as it wasn’t the writing system of Korea before and how it only existed at about 578 years ago during King Sejong’s reign. It is said that “한글”(han-geul) was created in order for people with little to no education could learn how to read and write. Because before, many Koreans are illiterate due to their very complex Chinese-based writing system called Hanja (漢字) which is difficult to understand. Meaning to say, it was created by the King for the purpose of literacy. Also, the shapes of the letters in 한글 was based on the surroundings and how you say it. These are among the facts that I knew while I became deeply interested in Korea’s traditions, history, and cultures. I was so excited to be fluent that time. I even made flashcards to enhance my vocabularies, watched a lot of tutorials on YouTube, surfed many websites on the Internet, and proceeds to watch Korean series. Little did I know, I was going to unexpectedly give up studying this language. Why? Well, when I got into its grammar, I was surprised by how complicated it is. I also saw videos on YouTube about Filipino learners of the Korean Language that aren’t still fluent after years of studying. So I got a bit down and frankly, I lost my motivation.
Even so, my language learning journey did not stop there. I still want to learn a foreign language that interests me other than the ones I already know which is Filipino, my native mother-tongue and English, my second language. I tried Japanese because of Animes but it was a bit complicated too. They have three kinds of writing systems and the grammar is similar to Korean. French because I have a French uncle and a Filipino cousin and aunt which speaks fluent French but when I knew how it sounded and how the words were pronounced, I already lost hope. French pronunciation is too complicated for me. I also dig up about German because my main to-go-to country in the future is Switzerland and of course, I would want to communicate with people there. However, German is laborious too! The words, the combinations of letters, and the grammar is too confusing. Until I finally encountered the language that’s spoken by the first colonizer of my motherland and it is no other than Spanish.
I started by memorizing basic phrases such as, “Gracias”, “De nada”, “Hola”, and a lot more. I was, once again, amazed by how easy this language is spoken. It is because Spanish is a phonetic language. Meaning, the words are pronounced exactly the way they are spelled. Also since Spain colonized my country for about 333 years, we adopted a lot of words from them which are now considered as loan words. It is estimated that about 4,000+ Tagalog and 6,000 Visayan words came from Spain. Some of the examples include baso(vaso), lamesa(la mesa), tinidor(tenidor), kutsara(cuchara), bumbilya(bombilla), and banyo(baño). As well as the number system, the names of the months, days, expressions, greetings, and many more. For this reason, I was determined to continue learning it because unlike in the other languages, there is no need for me to struggle in memorizing new vocabularies.
I did the same things I did to Korean and just added some new tactics. While my school is on a term break after the first semester, I enrolled at a Spanish Beginner course online where we are taught by a Filipino teacher who is fluent in 5 languages: English, Tagalog, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian. My cousin from France, who’s also fluent in Spanish, gave me books like Spanish dictionaries and grammar textbooks for writing and reading purposes. I was also able to use my Netflix binge-watching skills and started to watch a lot of Spanish series for listening purposes. And on YouTube, I began to discover facts about Spain. Their rich culture, history, and traditions, and how their language was influenced by Arabic as well. Additionally, Spanish is the 2nd most spoken language in the world, surpassing the English language, having over 460 million native speakers located in Spain and in Latin American countries. It is also the 3rd most used language on the internet. That’s a lot of people to talk to!
Furthermore, did you know that being multilingual gives your brain several remarkable advantages? Some of it can be seen such as higher density of the grey matter that contains most your brain’s neurons and synapses. It also helps our brain engage in more activities in certain regions where that language is spoken. And although not yet definitively proven, learning many languages decreases the rate of having dementia by 5 years! In addition, more businesses nowadays are seeking applicants who can navigate the modern global economy. It can be seen that in the 21st Century, knowing a second language is not only beneficial, but necessary for success in life. The continual globalization of the world’s economy is bringing diverse cultures and communities into more frequent contact with each other.
Looking back in time, I was nothing like this way before the quarantine started. Learning languages was never really included in my interests. But now, it is! In fact, I am even determined to shift my college course to something related to languages and pursue a master’s degree about linguistics. Indeed, it changed my life. It changed how I see things from a monolingual perspective and it opened a new horizon for me. Gladly, I was even able to have Spanish speaking friends! I have this one friend from Peru who speaks fluent Spanish and I happily encountered Spanish native people here in Facebook who are trying to learn a different language as well.
Overall, my experience was a blast! There are times that I became tired and almost lose my motivation because of how slow my progress is. But even so, I will not give up. I am not fluent yet and I still have a lot to know but I will keep on practicing until I become one. I believe that in the near future, it will open new opportunities that will be helpful for me too. Moreover, It has always been my dream to travel and I truly think that language learning will be an aid to that. Hoping that I’ll be able to talk to that nearing 500 million people soon!
Before I end my blog, I just want to share this quote from Charlemagne, also known as Karl and Charles the Great, a medieval emperor who ruled much of Western Europe during 768-814, “To have another language is to possess a second soul.”
Bueno. Eso es todo. Gracias por su tiempo leyendo mi blog. Espero que encuentres algo interesante. Además, a aquellos que están aprendiendo otro idioma, nunca perder la esperanza! Pronto seremos fluidos.
Truly, there is fun in languages.

Following that is a quick demonstration on how to translate the words in question to English. Translating Spanish needs localising even if the business is already operating in a Spanish-speaking market so that communication is not hindered. It is this activating dimension of popular free radio that most distinguishes it from the usual pacifying operations of the mass media and that also posed the greatest threat to the authorities; if people were just sitting at home listening to strange political broadcasts, or being urged to participate in conventional, organised political actions such as demonstrations that would be tolerable but once you start mobilising a massive and unpredictable political affectivity and subjectivation that is autonomous, self-referential and self-reinforcing, then this is a cause for panic on the part of the forces of social order, as was amply demonstrated in Bologna in 1977.
Free Language Translator is a useful translating utility powered by Google Translate which enables you to translate texts between more than 40 different languages - just as many as the Google service supports. People who don't know foreign languages are bound to use free translation services on the Internet, which basically provide draft translations, or have to refer to the professional French translator If you speak the French language , you will be able to easily translate French , communicate with people while traveling in the French speaking countries, help your kids doing French translation for the homework, and use the French language in your job. I will show in this article that a complete reliance on translation is often not needed and detrimental to the student when learning English. Old English, sometimes known as Anglo Saxon, is a precursor of the Modern English language. I'm also an English-Spanish translator and interpreter and earned my national medical interpreter certification through NBCMI in July 2015. In this case, you are already well on your way to becoming a Japanese translator. All our translations into Spanish are always carried out by 100% native Spanish translators, working in the mother tongue, and who are completely fluent in the source languages, i.e. English, French, German, Italian or Portuguese.
It's a fast-paced Italian world, and sometimes all you need is a quick English translation to get you up to speed. I know that for studying Ancient Near Eastern studies, eventually you would have to have a good command of French and German because a lot of the scholarly material is written in those languages. It is as funny as Mark Twain's translation and retranslation of his Jumping Frog, from English to French and back to English. Today, thousands of people from western countries such as USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and from most of European countries have already some Japanese Kanji symbols tattooed into their skin. As the mother tongue of 480 million people, Spanish is one of the world's most widely-spoken native languages. I have heard foreign-language speaking people talk about thinking in their native language before they translate. Veritas Language Solutions is going insolvent and I doubt any of the translators will receive money once higher ranking creditors have been paid. What I'm saying is, instead of trying to figure out which existing translation is most accurate, one can learn the languages, and of course the history, and do their own translation. Another thing, translating English to Arabic may have "corny" results i.e. the sentence may sound poetic with a deep meaning in English but very silly & childish in Arabic.
Zanos died of ovarian cancer just a couple of days of her 60th birthday. Our translation team has many experienced document translators who specialize in translating different types of documents including employee handbooks, contracts, leases, books, birth and death certificates, marriage certificates, divorce decrees, diplomas, transcripts, and any other Spanish document you may need translated. Interpreters and translators must have knowledge of medical terminology and of common medical terms in both languages. This is why, educators believe our kids understand computers and their programming languages better than the people who designed them. Below is an "opportunity" I received a couple of months ago from Wolfestone Translation (UK), click here which is encouraging translators to "post-edit" machine translations for GBP 0.015 per word. The democratic African National Congress (ANC) government was elected in 1994, after a half century of the nationalist government's racist policies under apartheid (the Afrikaans word for separateness”), which included political, legal, social and economic discrimination against black people. A virtual keyboard is offered for Russian, Ukrainian, English, German and French languages. So that, if Botha holler what he is purported to have been by the Sunday times article, it holds a whole stack of truths in it. If one understand Afrikaner history, the themes he hit on have been enforced and promoted or talked about by the Afrikaner people.
His argument, in a nutshell, is that technology forms a mass of people, and conditions their essential humanity by restricting their freedom and displacing their responsibility. Let us say this is not true, it is mentioned in the bible that "the book is given to him who is not learned saying read this, and he says i am not learned." Not in those exact words but in the same meaning, mohamed is the only prophet in history to not be learned after the prophecy was revealed, and anyone who reads the story of prophet muhammad pbuh will know that this is him who is prophesized. I fell in love with them all over again and its all because of you translators. When we received the copy, there was no context at all, just the slogan and this sentence: Is it possible to have a few words translated into Spanish by Monday?,” followed by a request that we also translate the word small.
To support my argument, I will present several examples of the current media environments and personal experience, particularly in relation to music and music industries since music is one of the important mass cultural forms, representing current trends of peoples' mind and thinking. Without his work in the 1950s and '60s, there would be no field of study that sought to explain how the nuances and great sweeps of human history are made possible by media of communication—how media determine the thoughts and actions of people and society, in a soft” way. We know about it because we were at least, up to the coming of the Social Networks, reading books, listen to all types of different genre and good music and that has kept us as a "Sane Society' in this day and age. Then, tickled by curiosity, he read it and at the same time compared it with the previous translations. So long as Man Mind has existed, from the crude forms of mass mobilization to contemporary Meida technological mind control, it has always been the desire and aim of those who are rich, and have time to fine-tune and fine-chissel their distorted and concocted strategy of mass control to set and determine the final outcome, social arrangements and reality. Those that have married in to Royal Families since 1800
Japan
Masako Owada
Masako was named Masako Owada before she was married. She is the daughter of a career diplomat and former ambassador to the United Nations.  Her ancestors were samurai. Other members of her family include prominent professors, scholars and headmasters.
She speaks six languages: English, Russian, French, Japanese, Spanish and German. She graduated magna cum laude from Harvard, studied at Balliol College, Oxford and received a law degree from Tokyo University, Japan's No. 1 university.
After completing her studies, Masako worked for the Japanese Foreign Ministry, performing such duties as interpreting for U.S. Secretary of States James A. Baker III and putting together position papers on controversial foreign trade issues such as the sale of semi-conductors between the United States and Japan.
Masako loves sports, music and the outdoors. A natural athlete, she skies, enjoys hiking, plays tennis and once tried out for an all-girl wrestling team under the name Nancy. At Oxford, she was the coxain on the all-male, rowing eights.
Prince Naruhito met Masako Owada, when she was 22, in October 1986 at an afternoon tea in honor of Princess Elena of Spain. It is said he immediately took a fancy to her. Recalling the meeting he later said, "She is so pleasant, she makes me unaware of the passing of time."
Prince Naruhito spent six years trying to convince Masako to marry him. The process began with a discreet meetings and an introduction to the Emperor and Empress, who were "favorably impressed." The meetings between the prince and Masako were always in the company of chaperons.
The prince's first proposals and later proposals were politely turned down for more than five years. Finally in December, 1992 Masako accepted. In a phone call before the acceptance, the Empress reportedly promised Masako there would be no mother-in-law problems. If Masako had turned down the offer of marriage, it was rumored, she and her family would have been ostracized.
On June 9, 1993, Prince Naruhito married Masako. Before the wedding Masako reportedly received 62 hours of private tutorials on matters such as the correct way to walk and the proper angle for an Imperial bow.
In her debut as Princess, Masako sat between Bill Clinton and Boris Yeltsin at a palace banquet for the leaders of the Group of Seven industrialized nations. She spoke Russian with Yeltsin and English with Clinton and no doubt probably translated for them. She also small talked in French with Françious Mitterrand.
Many people have commented what a tragedy it was for her to get married and sacrifice her career as a diplomat. People hoped that she would be a Japanese blend of Hillary Clinton and Princess Diana. Many were disappointed. Rather than challenge the Imperial status quo she dutifully played her role and disappeared into the “gilded cage," rarely speaking in public or making public appearances.
Unlike some members of the Imperial family in the past, she kept in touch with her old friends and they came over tea and meals at the palace residence. Masako reportedly spent much of her time writing waka, traditional Japanese poetry that "members of the royal family are expected to master."
The marriage between Prince Naruhito and Princess Masako appears to be a happy one. In July 1994, the couple moved into the new Crown Prince's residence in the Akasaka Palace compound in Tokyo. They raised two Akitas---Pippi and Mari. In 2000, Princess Masako wrote the following poem about her husband: With my husband as my guide through these seven years, Our words of the heart grow deeper with each passing day.
Masako was once criticized for speaking 39 second longer than her husband and reading the works of Nobel laureate Kenzaburo Oe, who has been critical of the imperial family. Once in a fit of anger, Masako reportedly poked a finger at a paparazzi and called him a worm.
On December 9, 1996, on of eve her 33rd birthday Masako, meet with reporters for the first time without her husband present. She answering the three question directed to her. In regards to her duties, she said, "At times, I experience hardship in trying to find the proper point of balance between traditional things and my own personality. While placing importance on the old things that are good its is also important to take into account the demands of a new age."
She also said, "In my daily life, I try as much as possible to consult with His Imperial Highness on any matter...I am certainly not in a state of depression so I hope no one will worry." She spoke for about 30 minutes, and then politely excused herself, saying she was a "little horse" from speaking for so long.
On December 1, 2001 Princess Masako gave birth to a baby girl. It was their first child after 8½ years of marriage for the 37 year-old princess and the 41-year-old prince.
In December 2003, Princess Masako was hospitalized with a case of shingles, a stress-related viral illness, and the Imperial Household announced that she was suffering from an “adjustment disorder” and “headaches and vertigo." She was treated with anti-depressants. There was a rumor that he she had a breakdown. Many attributed her illnesses to the stress of the gilded cage and pressure to produce a male heir.
After that Princess Masako lived in seclusion and was not seen in public. In May, she failed to accompany her husband Prince Naruhito when went t a string of royal wedding in Europe. It was the first time the price and princess has been apart for a long period of time.
In an unprecedented move, Prince Naruhito criticized the Imperial Household for its efforts to “negate Masako's career and personality." He added, “In the past 10 years Masako, who gave up as a diplomat to marry me, did everything possible to adjust to the environment of the royal family. This has exhausted her."
The Imperial Household Agency was flooded with angry e-mails from ordinary Japanese that were sympathetic to the princess and angry with the agency. The Emperor said he was “downcast” by the prince's statement and wrote “there are still some things that I have not fully understood yet." The crown prince's brother Prince Akishino criticizes his brother for not talking over the matter first with emperor before gong public.
Masako's condition was officially listed as an “adjustment disoder." Psychiatrist Rika Kayama told the Asahi Shimbun that Masako's illness most likely was the result of career-woman's ambitions behind stifled by life in the Imperial cage. “Imperial duties are rather passive and symbolics," she said, “making it difficult for the princess to feel challenged or rewarded, which may have gradually eroded her self-esteem and identity." A former school mate of Masako said, although she was not “career-crazed” she “appears to have felt she was not fulfilling what she expected from herself, and thus felt stymied."
In recent years patience with Princess Masako has started to wear thin as people have asked, “Is it really that difficult to make a few public appearances and smile and be nice?” She has been photographed dining at expensive Chinese, Mexican and French restaurants when she said she was too depressed to make public appearances. The editor of a magazine that reports about the Imperial family said, “People are angry with Masako for making many private outings, although she can not carry out official duties."
Right wing supporters of the Imperial family have called for the Crown Prince to divorce her because of the damage she is doing and the shame she is bringing to the Imperial family. Kaniji Nishio, a right wing academic wrote: “the members of the Imperial family are the passengers of the ship named the Imperial System. If one individual gets seasick and cannot stay on board, then there is no alternative but to disembark."

mickleburger replied to your post “That being said, how wrongly swedes prounced George and Arthur during...”
based on what dad's said about learning english it wasn't common to learn it anywhere until like the sixties (and honestly i maintain that 'whatever r-sound is native to your language' is an acceptable way to handle a foreign r)
in swedens case we always have studied ONLY the languages which were the most important to us to trade and ally with in international relations. so like, sweden used to study german primarly in the early 20th century. then sweden dropped it in like SECONDS, after the ww2.
but before that french, and the the french revultion happened and sweden was like, france who? never heard of this france?
if we talking 16th century spanish, and then the spanish armada got definited and sweden was like: “lol spain? mystery place. never heard of it!!”
etc
swedish is a small language, so our politicans, traders etc have always needed to learn other languages.
and also, we are like REALLY into being able to speak the languages of the political super powers well.
that being said, nothing of this would have mattered for my great-grandparents, becase they were born in the late 19th century, and back then working class and peasant children only went to school to they were 13, and were only taught what was deemed “crucial”. so they would not have known any of those lingua franca of international relations anyway
but for the upper-class, of all their around 1% of the population, foreign language education was always key. many of the elite, who lived during the same epoch as my great-grandparents, spoke good french and german, but very bad english (altough often some english, but not well).
edit!
i forgot! yes i agree that screw trying to change my r-sound. i am keeping my rolled r:s. my mind considers trying to change them highly Fake and Not Possible Or Something

Europe: European History – A Briefest Overview- II
European colonialism lasted from the 16th to 20th centuries vastly extending their reach across the globe by establishing colonies in the Americas, Africa, and Asia. Colonialism was of two varieties mainly: settler colonialism, when cities and cities have been established with primarily European residents and the facilities of a “Neo-Europe”; and exploitation colonialism, purely extractive and exploitative colonies, functioning to take advantage of assets and switch them to the colonizer, with the minimum quantity of investment potential. The aftermath of World Warfare II dismantled European empires and started decolonization.
Settler colonialism typically resulted within the pressured migration of indigenous peoples. This occurred in the USA, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, Argentina, and Australia. When Europeans settled in these desirable territories, natives gave option to the colonialists; and it principally a violent story.
The Unhappy African Story
The Berlin Conference of 1884 systemized European colonization in Africa and is the genesis of the ‘Scramble for Africa.’ The Conference carried out the ‘Precept of Effective Occupation in Africa’ which allowed European states with even the most tenuous connection to an African area to say dominion over its land, assets, and other people. In effect, it allowed for the arbitrary development of sovereign borders in a territory never previously existed.
The financial exploitation of Africa by the colonial powers was excessive. The colonial system produced an entire monopoly on political energy and left the working class small and incapable of collective motion. Combined with deep-seated racism, native staff had to cope with inconceivable circumstances. European quality of life and price of dwelling have been only potential due to the exploitation of the colonies.
Colonialism distorted the private and ethnic identities of natives as a result of it operates underneath the idea of perceived superiority. It disrupted civil societies the world over, especially Africa. Ethnic manipulation manifested itself beyond the private and inner spheres. The genocides because of the frictions between the Hutu and Tutsi tribes in Rwanda is a direct consequence of the colonial guidelines of Germany and Belgium. For instance of its brutality, British officers ordered, sanctioned, paid for, and carried out using smallpox towards the Native People during the siege of Fort Pitt.
Some European Nations With Colonial Histories
Denmark-Norway
Tumblr media
At the start of the thirteenth century, Denmark obtained possessions in Estonia. In private union with Norway, Denmark-Norway in the seventeenth century developed colonies, forts, and buying and selling posts in Africa, the Caribbean, and India. The first colony in India was at Tranquebar on India’s southern coast in 1620.
Netherlands
Tumblr media
The Dutch have been one of many largest colonials with big presence the world over. They have been continually preventing the Portuguese and the British, and misplaced lastly lots of their territories because of wars or treaties.
The Dutch first landed in Ceylon in 1602, and it was then underneath Portuguese control. Between 1636 and 1658, they managed to oust the Portuguese. Ceylon remained a serious Dutch trading submit. In 1796 the British seized control of the Dutch positions, at the urging of the ruler of Kandy. In 1605, Portuguese buying and selling posts in Indonesia fell to the superior firepower of the Dutch. In 1619 a fortified base Batavia (now Jakarta) turned the headquarters of the Dutch East Indies Firm.
The Dutch maintained bases in Taiwan, Malaysia, and Japan too. The part of Australia now often known as Western Australia was often known as New Holland. The Dutch held territory in central and southern Iran from 1623-1766. The Dutch would lose influence to the Portuguese and British. Additionally they held colonies in Pakistan, Ghana, South Africa, present day USA, West Indies, Suriname, Guyana, Brazil, Virgin Islands, Tobago amazingly.
Belgium
Tumblr media
Belgium controlled two colonies throughout its historical past, the Belgian Congo from 1908 to 1960, and Ruanda-Urundi from 1922 to 1962. It additionally had a concession in China, and was a co-administrator of the Tangier International Zone in Morocco. Roughly 98% of Belgium’s abroad territory was only one colony (about 76 occasions bigger than Belgium itself) — often known as the Belgian Congo. The brutal colonial story of Congo is another story by itself.
England and France
The British have invaded virtually 90 per cent of the nations around the globe throughout totally different occasions! Only 22 of the just about 200 nations on the earth never skilled an invasion by the British. Throughout the Colonial period in Africa, the British and the French colonized more than 95% of the continent. The British colonized twenty-two African states while the French colonized twenty. France retained control of North, and West and elements of Central Africa whereas the British took management of East and South Africa. The scramble and partition of Africa led other nations to precise their curiosity together with the Germans, Portuguese, Italians, and the Dutch. The entry of European powers into Africa led to the spread of European tradition, notably the languages, in the continent. At this time, most of Africa use both French or English as the second language
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Spain
Tumblr media
Its conquests of the Americas and Africa have been dangerous enough with long standing consequences. Nevertheless, fortunately, they did not take a look at India else we might have had areas in India talking Spanish and individuals rooting for becoming a member of Spain just as there are some Goan individuals rooting for Portugal.
Nevertheless, the Iberian Union, a dynastic union of the Kingdom of Portugal and the Spanish Crown between 1580 and 1640, introduced all the Iberian Peninsula, as well as Spanish and Portuguese abroad possessions, beneath the Spanish Habsburg kings Philip II, Philip III and Philip IV. So indirectly, by way of the Portuguese, Spain additionally had presence in Goa and other elements of India. The Portuguese Restoration Struggle established the House of Braganza as Portugal’s new ruling dynasty ending the Spanish union.
Portugal
Tumblr media
Brazil was by far Portugal’s largest colony by area and population. Because of the Treaty of Tordesillas, signed with Spain in 1494, Portugal claimed Brazil. The Portuguese imported African slaves and compelled them to develop sugar, tobacco, cotton, coffee, and different cash crops. Brazil gained independence from Portugal in 1822. Portugal had in fact a serious presence in Goa, along with different South-East Asian nations.
Most of the European occupations and wars towards each other occurred within the waters of Indian Ocean. Sanjiv Sanyal elegantly describes them in his ebook, ‘The Ocean of Churn.’
Italy
Tumblr media
Italy was one of many European nations with colonies in Africa through the trendy period. Lasting from 1890 to 1941, Italian colonialism in Africa included Libya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Somalia. Italian colonialism in Africa ended with the dying of the Italian leader Benito Mussolini, the collapse of the Fascist regime, and the defeat of Italy in World Conflict II.
Switzerland- The Paradox
Switzerland defies understanding. It stands alone, one of many richest nations on the planet. It stayed away from the world wars; protected its banks and industries from hostile forces throughout; manages an awesome sum of money in its banks; stayed away from the United Nations till very late; stays away from EU emphatically; has its personal foreign money (Euros are accepted, however the change is in Swiss Francs); and every individual flocks to it, some for tourism and some for placing their cash with no questions requested. It simply doesn’t need to share its money.
How did they rise to such heights, a country poorly endowed with pure assets and in former occasions referred to as one of the ‘sick males’ in Europe? A well-liked public discourse, for explaining the success story is to spotlight the Swiss working ethic, schooling degree, and entrepreneurship. There’s a complicated community of reasons, in fact.
The Swiss did not colonise Africa or any other nation like the rest of their neighbours, but they did have connections by means of mercenaries, businesspeople involving in slave commerce, and a widespread community of missionaries. The Swiss prevented direct confrontation with the English and resorted to the manufacturing of high-quality items. But Swiss did turn English colonial enlargement to their own advantage with out obligation to bear any share of the prices concerned.
Switzerland maintained a state of armed neutrality in the course of the World Wars regardless of sharing borders with opposing gamers, by means of a mixture of army deterrence, financial concessions to Germany and luck. Its banks served each side nicely too! Regardless of the public and political attitudes in Switzerland, some higher-ranking officers inside the Swiss Military had pro-Nazi sympathies, one thing which might have been a think about Germany not attacking Switzerland. During World Struggle II, the financial system profited from the increased export and supply of weapons to Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and different European nations. Switzerland’s production amenities have been largely undamaged by the warfare, and afterwards both imports and exports grew quickly.
Swiss enlargement was additionally due the absence of a patent regulation until 1907, which facilitated the emergence of highly effective food processing, chemical, and engineering industries in the late nineteenth century, as Swiss entrepreneurs might adopt new applied sciences without having to bear any of the high improvement prices.
Swiss neutrality, political stability, and national sovereignty are maybe probably the most essential elements which fostered a secure surroundings for the banking sector to develop and thrive. Presently an estimated 28 % of all funds held outdoors the country of origin (“offshore” funds) are in Swiss banks. In 2009 Swiss banks managed 5.4 trillion Swiss Francs. On the flipside, Swiss banks have served as protected havens for the wealth of dictators, despots, mobsters, arms sellers, corrupt officers, and tax cheats.
Banks and insurance coverage corporations in most other European nations have been always preventing the results of conflict and hyperinflation in the first few many years of the century. Switzerland managed to remain absent from both world wars, stored the change price constant and assured that the Swiss franc remained freely convertible throughout the entire period. Furthermore, the Swiss bankers – invigorated by a banking secrecy secured by the Swiss regulation in 1934 – turned generally known as reliable directors who don’t ask too many questions. All these elements made the Swiss franc one of the engaging currencies.
Colonial India
Tumblr media
Earlier than the Suez Canal, trade between India and the Far Japanese nations involved a trip round Africa. The Europeans rediscovered this route and their naval energy slowly led to brutal domination starting within the 15th century. Trading rivalries amongst the seafaring Europeans introduced other European powers to India. The Dutch (1605–1825), the Danes (1620–1869), the French (1668–1954), the Portuguese (1505–1961), the British (1612–1947) had their colonial presence in India and their inner wars and treaties in Europe had their effect in India too. Apparently, Pope Alexander VI on 25 September 1493 gave the Spanish too territorial rights to India by the bull Dudum siquidem earlier than the Treaty of Tordesillas eliminated these rights less than a yr later.
It’s shocking to see the colonial historical past of the Europeans with scarce trade assets; and outfitted solely with guile and army assets, thought fit to go to any land, occupy it forcefully, and play regional politics. That they had good help from the Church and the Universities which justified their excursions. India surrendered to the British lastly. Sadly, most of Europeans coming with none passports or visas, performed havoc with the tradition, heritage, economics, and each other sphere of the native life. As a author Prodosh Aich places it bluntly, that they had nothing to trade. They came only with the aim of loot, plunder, and a gross exploitation utilizing guile, crafty, and a few many years of superior weapon know-how.
This is, actually, one of many arguments towards making an attempt to get in touch with aliens. An alien civilization with hundreds of years superior know-how would simply destroy us than being nice pals. This is an extrapolation of the standard human behaviour exemplified by the European colonial powers with a number of years of superior army know-how when dealing with the rest of the world!
The Exploitation
In 1750, India and China have been contributing 75% of the world GDP. In 1600, Britain was producing 1.eight% of the world GDP, when the East India Firm was set up. When Britain left India in 1947 after 200 years of rule, Britain was contributing 10% 0f the world GDP and India lowered to a pathetic 1.8%. The British left behind a society with 16% literacy, a life expectancy of 27 years, and over 90% dwelling under the poverty line. Electrical energy was provided first within the 1890’s. Till 1947 in a span of 50 years, all of Britain, US, and Europe was electrified; however the Raj related merely 1500 of India’s 640,000 villages to the electrical energy grid.
India was an ‘extractive colony’. India’s Kohinoor diamond mined in Guntur discovered its strategy to UK largely by deceit and it is but to return back. India’s wealthy maritime commerce and highly developed banking system came to a grinding halt beneath the brutal colonial rule. In 1750, Indians had a lifestyle like those in Britain, but the revenue plummeted to a tenth of the British in 1947. British Raj systematically subverted each of the state machinery instruments, like armies, censuses, bureaucracies, railroads, hospitals, telegrams, and scientific institutions to its profit by plunder and manipulation.
In all the 107 years from 1793 to 1900, an estimated 5 million individuals died the world over in all of the wars mixed. But, in simply 10 years 1891-1900, 19 million individuals died in India as a consequence of famines alone. The famines have been the most important colonial holocausts; and are proper on the prime of a few of the most brutal inhumanities in trendy occasions. The regular famines of Bengal have been the result of careless planning, Malthusian concepts, and extremely racist leaders sitting in England wanting the other approach. Churchill hated the Indians and thought that they bred like animals. Whereas the individuals in Bengal have been dying because of famine, there was export of rice from the world to feed the soldiers preventing the World Conflict in Europe. These are just some examples of the colonial devastation in India. In fact, there are all the time a breed of apologists.
Lastly, they distorted our cultural and ethnic narratives in a fashion which we have now utterly internalised. They did not understand our traditions and created religions reminiscent of Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, Jainism, Shaivism, and so on wanting by means of their prisms of religion consisting of a single god, single Church, and a single e-book. The discourse on caste also turned equally messy as they superimposed their very own issues on our social buildings.
SN Balagangadhara and his co-authors elegantly cope with how Western narratives of caste and faith severely undermined our cultural identities, virtually de-rooting us. His books, ‘Western Foundations of the Caste System’ and ‘The Heathen in his Blindness’ are a must read for our persistently colonized and deracinated minds. Their racial theories based mostly on white superiority created the malignant Aryan-Dravidian principle. The British left with a bifurcated nation, however the discourses they left behind continues to divide us in a thousand methods based mostly on religion, language, region, and caste.
The French and the British- Enemies Preventing on Indian Soil
The Deccan wars between the French and the English happened with Indian soldiers on each side. As the Mughal Empire disintegrated in the early 18th century, and then as the Maratha Empire turned weakened after the third battle of Panipat, many relatively weak and unstable Indian states have been more and more open to manipulation by the Europeans.
In the later 18th century, Nice Britain and France struggled for dominance, partly by way of proxy Indian rulers but in addition by direct army intervention. The defeat of the Indian ruler Tipu Sultan in 1799 marginalised the French influence. A speedy enlargement of British energy followed via the larger part of the Indian subcontinent within the early 19th century. By the center of the century the British had already gained direct or oblique control over virtually all of India.
The French have been continuously in conflict with the Dutch and later mainly with the British in India. At the peak of French power within the mid-18th century, the French occupied giant areas of southern India and the world lying in immediately’s northern Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Between 1744 and 1761, the British and the French repeatedly attacked and conquered one another’s forts and cities in southeastern India and in Bengal within the northeast.
The Portuguese
In 1661, Portugal was at conflict with Spain and needed help from England. This led to the marriage of Princess Catherine of Portugal to Charles II of England, who imposed a dowry that included the insular and fewer inhabited areas of southern Bombay while the Portuguese managed to retain all of the mainland territory north of Bandra up to Thana and Bassein. This was the start of the English presence in India.
The Portuguese dominated Goa for a steady period of just about four centuries, and very blatantly refused to let go of it even after Indian independence from Britain. An army attack finally, led by the Indian government lastly made them flee. The exploitation of Goa is a narrative, which once more a lot of the Indians are unaware of.
Different Players
The Dutch have been much less concerned in India, as that they had the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) as their prized possession. Denmark–Norway established trading outposts in Tranquebar, Tamil Nadu (1620), Serampore, West Bengal (1755), Calicut, Kerala (1752) and the Nicobar Islands (1750s). At one time, the primary Danish and Swedish East Asia corporations together imported extra tea into Europe than the British. Their outposts lost financial and strategic importance, and Tranquebar, the last Dano-Norwegian outpost, went to the British in 1868.
The South Indians have been incredible naval warriors resisting the Europeans fiercely; and it was not all the time a cakewalk for them in the march of colonisation. Many occasions, the Colonials lost very badly. There was a terrific ruler of Kerala referred to as Marthanda Verma (1705-1758) who resisted the Dutch and defeated them decisively. Some declare that if Marthanda Verma had not defeated the Dutch, we might have been using the Dutch language as an alternative of English in the country right now.
The World Wars
The First World Struggle
On 28 June 1914, a Bosnian Serb Yugoslav nationalist, assassinated the Austro-Hungarian heir Archduke Franz Ferdinand. This snowballed first into a conflict between Austria-Hungary on one aspect and Serbia on the other; and later after a posh networking of alliances involving most of Europe into one of the deadliest wars-the World Warfare 1. The struggle involved 32 nations. This lasted from 1914 to 1918. Europe divided into two coalitions: The Triple Entente (Allied Powers)—consisting of France, Russia, and Britain—and the Triple Alliance of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy (Central Powers). The struggle lasted until 11 November 1918. The mobilisation of 70 million army personnel, together with 60 million Europeans, made it one of the largest wars in historical past. An estimated 9 million combatants and seven million civilians died as a direct result of the struggle.
The warfare drew upon every energy’s colonial empire as nicely, spreading the battle to Africa and across the globe. In 1914, the Indian Army was one of many two largest volunteer armies on the planet; it had a total power of 240,000 males. By November 1918, the Indian Army contained 548,311 men- the Imperial Strategic Reserve. It was often referred to as upon to cope with incursions and raids on the North West Frontier and to provide garrison forces for the British Empire in Egypt, Singapore, and China. The Indian Army additionally fought within the European, Mediterranean and the Middle East theatres of conflict in World Struggle I.
Over a million Indian troops served abroad, of whom 62,000 died and another 67,000 wounded. In complete at the least 74,187 Indian soldiers died in the course of the conflict, a struggle without any private stake or honour, besides given that we have been a colony of the British. 588,717 Indians went to Mesopotamia, 116,159 to Egypt, 131,496 to France, 47,000 to East Africa, 4000 to Gallipoli, 5000 to Salonica, 20,000 to Aden and around 30,000 to the Persian Gulf to struggle in World Struggle 1 for the British.
The Second World Conflict
World Conflict II was the deadliest conflict in human history, marked by 50 to 85 million fatalities, most of whom have been civilians within the Soviet Union and China. This struggle concerned virtually 50 nations across the globe. It included massacres, the genocide of the Holocaust, strategic bombing, premeditated dying from starvation and illness, and the one use of nuclear weapons in warfare.
World Struggle II began on 1 September 1939, with the invasion of Poland by Germany and subsequent declarations of conflict on Germany by France and the United Kingdom. It was a battle between the Axis powers (Germany, Italy, Japan, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria) and the Allied powers (U.S., Britain, France, USSR, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Greece, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, South Africa, Yugoslavia).
2,065,554 Indian soldiers fought the Second World Conflict, and over 87,000 Indian soldiers (including those from trendy day Pakistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh) died in World Struggle II. Indians fought with distinction throughout the world, together with in the European theatre towards Germany; in North Africa towards Germany and Italy; within the South Asian region defending India towards the Japanese and preventing the Japanese in Burma. Indians also aided in liberating British colonies resembling Singapore and Hong Kong after the Japanese give up in August 1945.
Area-Marshal Sir Claude Auchinleck, Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from 1942 stated that the British “couldn’t have come by means of each wars in the event that they hadn’t had the Indian Military.” Principally, India fought and misplaced its sons in a struggle primarily based mostly on the interior greed, ambitions, and angers of European powers towards each other.
The Influence of Europe on India and the World
Europe has an intimate relation with India which most of us are quite unaware. The colonial enlargement of Europe and the two world wars deeply impacted India. The story of colonial Europe is a that of plunder and an upsetting of the world order repeatedly in many varieties throughout centuries. The issues going for them have been a couple of advanced many years of armed naval energy backed by a robust sense of spiritual, intellectual, and racial superiority. The havoc created by Europe to Asia, America, Africa, and other South-East Asian nations have been all but obliterated from their historical past books. Shamefully, the epicentre of both the world wars was additionally Europe. Our Independence motion has deep connections to the world wars whilst we needlessly lost hundreds of soldiers preventing for the British.
Whilst physically the colonial powers stripped us, intellectually their discourses led to a near everlasting injury of our social and cultural spheres. European understanding of both religion and caste is having an impression even right now because the colonial consciousness hangs heavily on our distorted educational and public discourses. A lot of the ideas of caste and faith are mistaken even as the division of the country continues every day, a lot after the creation of Pakistan.
But, most of us are ignorant, wanting with large eyes and awestruck brains at the great thing about Europe. The glitter and glory of Europe rests on a really disturbing ground, and we should always always remember this. The Europeans have a purpose to obliterate their colonial historical past as a default position. They used it as soon as to instill national delight. They use different mechanisms now to do the same. But we hate ourselves using the stories they advised us about ourselves. It’s perhaps a time to forgive, however forgetting, never.
The migrant crisis in Europe, Schengen issues involving the 26 nations, issues of Brexit, falling financial system to the point of collapse of many European nations, terrorist points, issues with Russia, reducing start price and rising previous age populations are some of extreme problems dealing with Europe at the moment. The migrations across the Mediterranean is of main worry to many European nations, especially Germany. It’s all very sad and one can sympathise with them. In the present day, it is the privilege and right of each country and its individuals to have peace, prosperity, and happiness; and every white, black, brown, or yellow individual shares the burden to realize this. In a globally related world, a secure Europe is essential for the entire world. But it might be simply that Karma is paying somewhat go to.
Tumblr media
Conclusions
It was heartening to see so many Indians, no longer staying of their shells, swamping the European nations, and filling their tourism coffers. One virtually feels that their tourism is surviving solely on the Indians and the Chinese language! The prosperity of Indians was gratifying to see.
Having travelled to quite a number of places in India too, the overwhelming thought which came to me at the end of the tour was that we have to develop our tourism to the complete, which has much more to supply than anywhere on the planet; and this is not chauvinism. Kashmir to Kerala; Gujarat to Nagaland, each state has something great to offer. If solely we might improve the standard of our roads, our sanitation and bathroom amenities, and ease of going round; India would undoubtedly be the world leader in tourism. From the Himalayas, to the deserts; from the splendours of the North-East to the beaches of Goa; from the greenery of Kerala to the temples of Madhya Pradesh; nothing beats India. In my limited excursions around the globe, I am but to see a construction which gave me a much bigger OMG second than the Tanjore Huge Temple or the Kedarnath trek within the Himalayas. India is the most effective nation within the world for tourism, and I might consider that it is the most necessary ministry in dire want of creating.
The perfect part of the journey have been the stunning Indians from all elements of the nation: Assam, Rajasthan, UP, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Gujarat-much of India had its illustration. It was a huge instructional tour for my family as we have been more impressed with the number of Indian tradition, languages, and the large affection we acquired from everyone than the sights and sounds maybe! Individuals are more essential for the reminiscences than the places.

Aspects of Belgian/ Brussels life: language
Another important aspect of life living in Brussels is the language, or more accurately the languages plural. This, I think, is the main difference for me between living in the UK and living abroad – most western European countries are largely similar, apart from the languages.
Belgium has 3 official languages: Dutch/Flemish, French and German. Brussels has two – the first two, while Dutch/Flemish is the only official language in Flanders, and French the only official language in Wallonia. German is the official language in the German speaking area. The street signs switch abruptly from bilingual to monolingual when you leave the capital, which can be confusing, especially when there are different names for the same places (Antwerp is Antwerpen in Dutch/Flemish and Anvers in French. Liege is Liege in French and Luik in Dutch/Flemish..)
Tumblr media
French signs in Wallonia (Binche to be precise)
Tumblr media
Although Brussels is officially bilingual, French dominates – Emmie can't just start speaking Dutch to people most places. This is because although Brussels is surrounded by Flanders, it's also the capital, and French has historically been the language of the upper classes and Dutch of the workers or farmers (even Dutch nobles used to write to each other in French). Dutch/Flemish was only approved as an official language in 1898, and a Dutch/Flemish version of the constitution was only approved in the 1960s.
I learnt French before I came to Belgium, but have probably improved a lot in my time here. Mainly I've improved my spoken confidence and fluency – the English way of teaching languages gave me a good basis of comprehension and writing, but not the confidence to converse. Living with Francophones has definitely helped that. Belgian French is, of course, not the same as French French, and there are definitely “Belgicismes” I've picked up without knowing.
One of the most obvious is that 70 and 90 are septante and nonante rather than soixante-dix and quatre-vingt-dix (only swiss french uses the logical octante rather than quatre-vingt), others include adding the word “quoi” at the end of most sentences (which always puts me in mind of Jeeves and Wooster era Englishmen adding “what” to everything) and the phrase “Tu viens avec?” (are you coming with?) which the French consider completely grammatically incorrect. That last one is apparently due to the influence of Dutch grammar.
Tumblr media
Then there's the thorny issue of Dutch v Flemish. I'm pretty sure virtually every Fleming I've asked has given me a different answer on this, but as far as I can work out Dutch is what is taught in Belgian schools (the official language) and Flemish is what you learn at home. But implying that there is only one Flemish dialect gives entirely the wrong impression – Flemings often remark how they cannot understand people 10 miles down the road, if they choose not to clean up their local dialect.
Emmie says the Dutch consider that the Flemish use more old-fashioned words and phrases (a little like the divergence between US English and UK english), and have a cute accent. This patronising attitude surely contributes to Flemish resentment of the Dutch :P I've only recently started learning Dutch so my understanding of the differences is limited, but I am probably developing more of a Flemish accent (soft, rather than more guttural g's)..
Alongside these official languages, there are many more in Brussels. It's extremely common to hear multiple languages walking down the street. Moroccan Arabic is supposedly the second most common first language in Brussels (after French). I live in an area with lots of Portuguese immigrants, so Portuguese is common there.
In the international community, and the European quarter, you'd be far more likely to hear English in the streets. In the EU bubble, English is the de facto common language, as when you bring together people from Bulgaria, Spain, Germany and Latvia, it's likely to be their only shared language. That's how I've got by only speaking French at home and in bars, shops and restaurants – as I can speak English at work. Many English people don't learn French at all living in Brussels (it is certainly not the ideal place for an immersion course…)
Of course, when English is being spoken among various European nationals, it's not English as spoken by native anglophones – it's International English or ELF (English as a Lingua Franca). This can result in interesting takes on English sometimes, and it must also have an effect on us native anglophones. The German comedian Henning Wehn did an interesting radio show on this a while back (link).
One way or another, language seems to be central to people's experience of Belgium/Brussels and I often find myself having engrossing conversations about speaking foreign languages, the intricacies of Belgian French, or Flemish dialects, and the effects of raising your children as bi- or even multi-lingual. I find language fascinating – perhaps that's why I like Brussels so much.

At the start of the thirteenth century, Denmark obtained possessions in Estonia. In private union with Norway, Denmark-Norway in the seventeenth century developed colonies, forts, and buying and selling posts in Africa, the Caribbean, and India. The first colony in India was at Tranquebar on India’s southern coast in 1620.
Netherlands
Belgium
Spain
Portugal
Italy
