SORRY I’M GOING TO BE INTOLERABLE ABOUT THIS I AM GOING TO BE UTTERLY ABNORMAL MY CROPS ARE WATERED MY HEART IS BUOYED BY THE JOY OF FRIENDSHIP

I just know that this whole time, even as Jacob’s been growing on Gregory, Gregory has been holding back, has been telling himself that no, he’s not going to reward this annoying behavior. He keeps most people at arm’s length like it’s his job, so why should he even vaguely entertain this desperate desire for friendship for any other reason than the fact that this person he really cares about just happens to care about Jacob too?

And he’s right, of course he’s right. He’s not obligated to even like Jacob, and definitely not obligated to be his friend. We’ve seen many times that Jacob has a lot of faults, up to and including a bad habit of making himself everyone’s problem.

But fine, Gregory will fully admit it: Gregory likes Jacob anyway. He’s Gregory’s friend anyway. So, feeling unmoored and needing support, Gregory knows who he is willing to turn to for that support, and he decides to just…let this friendship breathe.

He is the one who offers a hug first! Even if it’s awkward, that means so much! The first time Jacob ever met Gregory, he tried to hug him, which, understandably, Gregory found weird and off-putting. He didn’t even know the guy. But now he does, and when he wants to communicate that he genuinely appreciated Jacob, he doesn’t go with a dubious “thank you,” he invites a hug, which we’ve never seen him do before, so he could’ve just…not done that. Jacob was impressively cool about it, but it doesn’t seem like he expected it.

And the thing is that it seems unlikely to me that Gregory, chronic overthinker, occasional unwilling study of human character, doesn’t know that outright offering a hug will cement in Jacob’s head that they’re totally besties, which means he doesn’t care if Jacob gets the wrong idea. Which means he doesn’t really think he’s actually giving him the wrong idea.

And then! Then he accepts another hug, because you know what? He needs one. And he is the one who goes for the full hug because he knows he can, he knows it’ll be okay! He trusts Jacob enough to communicate to Jacob himself that yeah, they do have a connection and he appreciates it and wants it to continue!

He lets himself lean on his friend.

Meanwhile, Jacob lets himself be redirected without feeling shut down or being shut down. He matches Gregory’s energy, realizes that he doesn’t have to try so hard. That he has things to offer Gregory and he doesn’t have to shove them at him, he can just show him. He can just be who he is, and demonstrate that he accepts Gregory for who he is. That his liking Gregory isn’t performance—he genuinely enjoys him. Jacob calms down, and he’s exactly what Gregory needs.

This time, Jacob doesn’t threaten to scream, and Gregory never tries to walk away.

I’m wrecked, I’m walking on air, this is everything to me, I reiterate that I am NOT normal about this in any possible way.

The reason I love Klaus being possessive is that he’s never saying things like “why are you attempting to attract someone else’s attention” but rather is all “how dare he look at someone who’s mine?”

It’s still toxic as fuck, cause he is objectifying his partner (as is seen with Cami in s1) but it’s the reason his possessiveness is tolerable (personally hot if also a bit disturbing). He’s also capable of changing, as we see again with Cami in s3, to an extent. Still possessive but less paranoid/murderous.

This will be a bracket of Ultimate Women's Competence, decided by all y'all here on Tumblr, starting with who gets to enter!

Here's where you can submit yourself to the worship your champion to the bracket.

Here's the rules:

must be a woman (honest to Xena, competent women are still a much rarer sight than competent men…)

must be (canonically!!!) highly competent at at least one skill

this includes superpowers, learned skills, talents - as long as she's visibly and noticeably very, very good at something

this includes women whose talents weren't allowed to shine either due to in-show or writer/producer reasons

I have this thing where I'm bad at remembering names of people in TV shows.

So I nickname people I can't remember the names of.

Maggie and Nina in GO were Bookshop Lesbian and Coffee Lesbian through most of the show.

The three guys from Julie and the Phantoms are known lovingly in this household as Dummy, Gaylord and Cutie.

The guys from One Piece are Gummy Dummy, Braincell Girl, Swordarm and Potter Malfoy. Oh, and there's Axe Arm, Axe Arm's Gay Son, and Bearded Dude. Oh, yeah, and Evil Tumblr Clown.

I have by now retained that Gummy Dummy's actual name is Ruffy. The rest of them are still complete blanks. I hope I'll get at least some of the names down by the end of Season 1 (we're at Episode 2), but I'm not holding my breath.

It took me almost 2 seasons, but by now I do know everybody's names in The Bear. (to be fair, the character writing in The Bear is so good that by the end of S2 you know these people like you grew up with them. Also Cousin is in Andor. Blew my mind when I realised.)

I don't usually have this problem in books, come to think of it. It's mostly TV shows and movies. I think it's partly my brain, partly the bad audio in so many of these shows, and partly bad character writing. If I can sum up a character by the cliche niche they're filling, why should I bother remembering their names. But I do concede it's probably mostly because the audio sucks so bad with most shows nowadays.

I find modern fight scenes pretty boring. They're too choreographed and spectacular, with blocks and flips and acrobatics and stuff. Generally I only need to know who won (though I can usually already predict this by how far into the movie/show it is), so I just surf IMBD until the fight ends.

But I do love brawls. I mean, those fights where the hero is bruised and battered and outclassed, but they just keep getting back up to fight again. Because this isn't just a fight scene, it's telling us something about the character of the hero: they don't give up, no matter how hard it gets. Their determination trumps the strength and skill of their adversary. Maybe there's also something a little cathartic about seeing the hero take the punishment and still come out on top, like we all hope to do in our lives.

And I love slapstick fights! Where you learn that the hero is terrified but possibly better (or luckier) than they think at this whole fighting thing?

Anyway, imo a fight scene, like a sex scene or a chase, is just gymnastics unless it's telling us (or reminding us) something about our characters.
