(This is the tweet that kind of set me off to write this, and is what I mostly address)
(image id: a tweet saying “people are going at Dream fans’ throats for “hating” on mcc. but they’re not adding the rules to actually make it more fair, otherwise they would’ve removed build mart which is a pain for the colorblind people AND those with adhd. no one’s hating, they’re understandably upset.”)
Hot take of the day, the twitter freaks arguing that BUILDMART is ableist or whatever literally only care about ableism in terms of their favorite white boys, more specifically dream and George. Like buildmart is literally a game designed to diversify the roster and to benefit players who arent good at movement or pvp, two disciplines that are very mechanics heavy. If we're following the logic of some of these twitter users, every game would be ableist because it demands a certain level of physical or mental ability that not everyone has. I vaguely remember Eret saying he has dyspraxia and has spoken about how parkour in particular is very difficult for her as a result. Are the word puzzles in sot ableist as well because some contestants are dyslexic? The reason mcc is more fair and enjoyable for people with different skill levels, and different abilities, is because there's such a diverse rotation of games, so even if your fine motor skills arent the best, for whatever reason, there are plenty of other games you can excel in that arent nearly as demanding of those skills!
Buildmart is a good game, you cant keep blaming dream or George's poor performances in the game on ableism.

Trying to explain how queerphobia + racism intersect in this fandom especially with the treatment of Eddie, Buck, Buddie, and now BuckTommy.
Oliver and the fandom already touched on how henren and David/Michael shouldn't be ignored because of Bucktommy (as that one anon said the white boy supreme).
I think:
• "People are jumping ship from buddie to bucktommy because they don't truly care about Eddie."
Lines of thinking: Eddie is ignored as the POC in favor of Buck and another white character (+ his role with the bigotry in the past).
While this fandom does have a problem with ignoring, incorrectly portraying the people of color on 911, including Eddie, and while some people may be doing this due to racism, in this instance most people are just celebrating being queer and feeling seen.
This is where the queerphobia steps in. People being happy about someone's queer journey (Buck in this case), should not be seen as a negative thing just because you don't like that person.
• "Buck is not receiving the same level of anger for spraining Eddie's ankle as Chimney received for punching Buck"
Lines of thinking: Buck is white, is being excused for his violent behavior, Chimney got hate because he's Asian.
Chimney did get hate because he's Asian and this fandom is racist. So those who were hating on Chimney, block them, especially if they are excusing Buck's actions. Fortunately, the show, through Maddie and Buck, all say that Buck was wrong. Probably why nobody else echoed it online + the excitement for Bi!Buck and being that much closer to canon Buddie.
I get the confliction when it comes to hearing Eddie felt bad, but Buck did not hurt Eddie on purpose and Eddie and Buck understand each other which is why Eddie feels bad because he also didn't mean to hurt Buck. (Of course Eddie living his life shouldn't hurt Buck in any way but the show says that, too. (Could say something about buddie being in love here but I digress.))
I also get wanting to see Buck apologize. He makes a lot of mistakes and some of them are more shitty than others, but he's also a fictional human character and we have seen him apologize to Eddie (3.09).
There's even "you want Buck to hurt Eddie that's disgusting" pre basketball scene line of thinking which wanting conflict between buck and Eddie shouldnt come at any cost since this show isn't dark and we want our relationships to be healthy here but it's an accident in this case.
And it is fine to not like Buck, to be tired of seeing him after s6 centric stuff, but people holding love for both Buck and Eddie in different ways and in different moments does not mean you can be queerphobic.
It also means people shouldn't ever be racist and should seriously examine the roots of their behavior in regards to Eddie, Chim, Hen, Athena, and their extended family members.
I implore a lot of you to realize where people are actually being very sneaky in their racism, ableism, misogyny and queerphobia. In the group chats you are in, with the fics you read and they write, and with that gut feeling that something is wrong but you ignore in favor of being friends.

Bit of a controversial take, but I don't think Mike not liking Max in s2 had anything to do with him being jealous because of Will. I think there was 2 main reasons:
1) Mike isn't good at making new friends. He (like the other party members) are outcasts and frequently bullied, it seems plausible that this caused an adversity to people he doesn't know. And since he wasn't attracted to her like Lucas and Dustin, nor is he as kind to strangers as Will (Tonka truck), it makes a lot of sense for him to push her away. "Awesome? You haven't even spoken a word to her" "How can I hate you? I don't even know you" He didn't know or understand her and didn't like that his friends were becoming close to someone he couldn't gauge, nor was there wasn't any reason for Mike to want to be friends with her. Even with El in s1, Mike didn't really want her to stick around at first. He had a suspicion she knew something about Will, but since he didn't have any proof, so he was ready to send her away at the first chance he got. But the moment she said something that could hint at Wills wearabouts, "she said bad people are after her. I think maybe these bad people are the same ones that took Will", he was on her side 100%. He didn't have that type of insensitive with Max. He had no reason to want to be friends with her, and he was perfectly fine with letting everyone know that.
2) Not to sound like a milkvan, but it definitely had a lot to do with El. "We don't need another party member.... And Els our mage" Mike didn't accept the fact that El was gone, and still considered her a party member, unlike Lucas and Dustin, who believed she was dead. Accepting Max into the party made him feel like he was replacing her, and it made the possibility that she truly was gone very real. He didn't want Max knowing anything about El, "Lucas, he told be about her" "Yeah well he shouldn't have", because he wanted to keep Max and El separated in his mind. He described her as "annoying" because he was bothered by the fact that her presence constantly reminded him of the fact that El wasn't there. He wanted Max to stay a stranger so that El could stay a party member. Once he knew El was in fact alive, he stopped being such a duche to Max, and cooperated with her without issue when they burned the vines. Because in Mikes mind, Max was no longer a threat to El. There was no reason to dislike her anymore, nor would she be replacing anyone anymore, so he was finally able to accept her into the party as the zoomer.

sometimes I don't want my ships to be canon. I ship zukka to hell and back but tbh it'd be really weird to write it into the show bc navigating aaaaaall the politics of what it would mean for the firelord to be in love with not only a man, not only a commoner, but a male commoner from another nation????? that would take SO much work which would mean devoting a lot of time to zukka as a subplot. and atla doesn't really have the space for all that.
sometimes it wouldn't make sense to make a good ship canon and that is ok. fanfic is good. fanart is good. stories and their characters exist as more than what happens in canon and that is a good thing

I'm sorry but autism and/or ADHD not being disabilities is a genuinely dogshit take, they are, by definition, disabilities, and they sure as hell disable the shit out of me. Yes I get autism is a spectrum but saying it's because of society is definitely NOT it because trust me even if society were perfect I'd still be fucking disabled.

One of my favorite parts of the headcanon of Snotlout and Hiccup being cousins in the series is thinking about how crazy Haddock-Jorgenson family dinners must've gone in the pre-httyd1 era (by crazy I mean one-sided awkwardness and insanely passive aggressive comments.)

After recent events, I ended up going back to the beginning to check things, because my first reaction will always be "wtf, this is shit, why would you do this" and my second reaction will always be "okay maybe that was a bit much, maybe he's not THAT bad, maybe has a good reason-

Okay.. okay this looks, well maybe he's just leaving some recordings in case kaito found something he shouldn't! It's not like they can hide it forever! The room is part of the house! Kaito lives in the house-

What??? What do you MEAN "designed to open after 8 years"???

I have been angry since April 12th and I've reached a point where I don't even know what to feel anymore I don't even know what to tell y'all.
Like, wow, omg, movie reveals. Other than family relations, the other thing isn't exactly anything new. We've all read Midnight Crow. We saw Kaitou Corbaeu. We've been in denial until finally reaching acceptance. For me at least. And then we spend a few years bargaining, bc surely there's a good reason kaitos not in the know. That kaito has to be KID. Surely there's a reason? Right?
Right???
At this point we don't even truly know if Jii is in the know and was acting as planned out by the parents or not. Or if he's just like kaito. Tricked, lied to, played for fools. At the very least ginzo doesn't know, so there's that. Not sure how much that would help kaito when he inevitably finds out. Because he will. The fact remains that it's quite suspicious that Jii just so happen to choose to don the KID outfit and become KID to draw out toichis murderers exactly 8 years after toichis death. EXACTLY the same amount of time that was set for that trap door portrait to open to kaito.
There's a lot of implications to think about

The angle that all trans men have male privilege is racist at worst and white centric at best. What you're thinking of is white privilege.. you're thinking of the white trans men with enough money and stability to pass and enough whiteness to have never faced the intersectionality of it all. But why are they the face of trans masculinity? Actually, why is the face of transness as a whole completely white dominated?
It just feels like part of being a trans poc (and what I feel is massively worse for your aveeage black trans person don't even forget it) is that not only are you a victim of misogyny and white standards of gender your whole life but you also get the finger pointed at you for the wrongdoings of your white counterparts In your own community and completely talked over by even the most well meaning trans people. It drives me to tears sometimes. You know in the eyes of our oppressers we're all failures of womanhood? Trust me if I could have male privilege I would but even if I was cis I'd still be getting racially profiled by the undercover theft prevention employees at every store I walk into in my town
I could articulate this better but these thoughts have been articulated better by black people several times over that you should seek out right now if you want to know anything about gender and intersectionality, I think I'm just venting, peace and love
Btw if you use any of this to affirm your bias against trans woman you're scum to me. Scum.

rambling about Haruka
As an ND person I just hate how Haruka's character is either completely infantilized or reduced to a selfish, evil murderer, when, to me, he is so much more than that.
Especially the latter; I hate when any MILGRAM character is called evil because what's the point of MILGRAM, then? They're all morally grey! That's how they test us. But Haruka in particular because I feel like it comes from a place of ableism, intentional or not.
I'm not sure if I should put TWs, but well I talk about ableism, murder (obviously lol), childhood trauma and well... it's Haruka
Haruka's outburst in the VD and his implication of killing animals (I know it's basically canon but erm... i can explain why I think it's an implication later) (i just finished writing the post and actually i explained why at the bottom of the post but its not a full explanation so lol) are the reasons I see people calling him either evil or childlike, and while I do think that Haruka is stuck in a childlike state in some aspects, this is emotional dysregulation of an ND and/or traumatized person, to me.
The uglier sides of being ND/traumatized, the ones that get heavily stigmatized and seen as intentional or evil; I think this was a display of one of them. And I really wish to see more people focusing on Haruka's disability in the ways it can affect his communication and day-to-day life skills more than "oh, poor baby, he has a disability that makes him feel unwanted" without actually understanding the details of the disability and, well, the reason why it is a disability.
Like, the emotional dysregulation that comes with being autistic, which is my headcanon for him. The hyperempathy and literal thinking that might make him harder to communicate with, and get people frustrated with him more often.
That and being severely neglected; I think neglect is one of the lesser discussed forms of childhood trauma and the fact that Haruka was shown to be neglected as well as abuse really means a lot to me, because I think some people don't quite understand just how much neglect and isolation fucks you up.
All those factors combined are a recipe for an unstable, impulsive, clingy shell of a human, and him getting called evil for that really saddens me. It's important to remember that these MVs are extracted from the prisoners' own memories and thoughts. It comes from their perception of their surroundings, their murders, and their own selves. The manic look that Haruka has on his face for a lot of AKAA, for example. The makeshift shirt he's wearing, as if he's desperately trying to sew himself together into a normal person, the exhausted, frustrated look when he picks up the necklace, it's important to remember that this is how he sees himself. A monster who has lost control of himself. The line "I'll keep killing to be your good boy" was a shock, but the way he meekly apologized to Es at the end of his VD, I really think that shows that he feels guilty, that he wants to convince himself more than anyone that he was a good person, that he was really trying to be one despite how his unlucky life frustrated him to his breaking point.
As for his infantilization, it has already been addressed by many thoughtful members of the fandom and I'm grateful to see that, but I also want to say it myself since god knows I hate being patronized.
It feels very ableist saying he's just "someone stuck in a childlike mindset/age regressor" Yes, and how does age regression as a coping mechanism develop? Usually through prior trauma that makes you "stuck" at said age, and that can present differently. It can be longing and yearning for a simpler time, for an actual happy childhood, or having flashbacks to a traumatic event that happened at a certain age; it is not uncommon for trauma survivors to be "frozen" at the age their trauma took place.
I think both of these are the case for Haruka. Frozen at that moment, but trying to reduce himself to nothing but a little, unaware child to avoid reliving it again, relishing in the innocence and purity of his good younger times (emphasis on purity--Haruka's murder was by strangulation, yet there's a shot in AKAA where he's covered in blood. I know it's after he killed the animals, but he's in the stitched-together outfit here; I think there's more to this MV than just killing the animals. Since this outfit is... not very likely to be worn in reality, did the animal killing happen at all? Even if it did, I think this shot remains an indicator that he sees himself as impure; guilty. I have a LOT to say about the inconsistencies in Haruka's MVs, but I'll save that for later... Anyway, back on topic) It is NOT "having the mental capacity of a child, so being unable to date etc." Haruka has still lived 17 years, maybe even more, since he isn't too interested in remembering his age. How do you treat actual neurodivergent people if this is how you see him?
When I rewatch the MVs, relisten to the VDs, reread the interrogations and timelines, I see no evil, just an incredibly broken, misunderstood person.

Sexualising a character from a children’s book now show is really weird.
idk its not weird to me bc i didnt have an attachment to pjo when i was younger at all and i just dont see the correlation w him coming from a kids book. like what does that have to do w him being hot or putting him in sexual situations ? idk i just feel like just bc they came from a source material marketed towards younger people doesnt mean it cant be marketed towards grown(er) ppl and their situations cant also become more adult as well ? if that makes any sense
