Basically, why it isn't a dream is during the merge, the timeline? Basically, reset itself to balance all the new energy out so when Lloyd stopped the merge, he soft reset the universe. Now he just thinks it's a dream because that's the only logical answer in his head.
(also a song I think works well for this au)
When he finally wakes up, memories of the show and all, he finds himself in the body of a teenager going to a brand-new high school, and now, he's on a mission to find his friends and hope they also have a memory of this. The best part? He has a whole new family, their good but they aren't his family. The only person he recognizes in his "real" family, is their family friend and local weirdo, the madwoman, the myth, the legend, Mystake. And much to Lloyd's shock, and suspicion, she starts to make subtle references to Lloyd's "dream".
For example;
- Using incense Lloyd knows Wu and Garmadon (sensei Garmadon specifically) both used to use in his "dream”.
- Giving Lloyd word for word advice that she would have definitely given Lloyd before if not advice she gave, advice she “heard from somewhere else” that sounds similar to stuff Lloyd heard from Wu
- Giving him tea to help him relax and saying it was a gift from someone Lloyd knows very well
- She knows stuff about Lloyd even before he actually introduces himself to her
- Making small jokes about how Lloyds reflexes should be better than they are currently
- She makes a small remark about how she was sure Lloyd had green eyes, not grey
You get the idea, my point is, Lloyd starts to think Mystake may remember the dream too.
Which gives Lloyd hope he can make his friends remember too. The only problem now?
Lloyd has to find them, which is no easy feat because people know him as the kid who hangs around the local weird person of their town.
The first of the bunch he befriended? Definitely Jay; why? Because Lloyd remembers how he won Jay over the first time, comic books. So, when Jay was reading a starfighter comic book Lloyd walked over and asked him about it.
Jay was nervous of Lloyd at first but soon grew to be great friends with him after that. After that, Jay introduced Lloyd to Cole, Zane, and Pixal. Through already knowing his friends inside and out in his “dream”, he won over each one easily by playing his cards right.
Cole? All it took was showing he was truly a good person and wanted to help people, which was easy to prove when Lloyd kept pushing bullies away from his friends.
Pixal? He took an interest in her robotics club and helped raise money for a fundraiser the robotics club was hosting.
Zane? He kinda just befriended after meeting Pixal and hitting it off because Lloyd knew how to treat Zane like he's a person.
During that fundraiser he grew closer to his “new friends” and started to be happier and hope he may be able to remind them of who they used to be.
He became friends with Nya after defending a few people from some bullies; the head of those bullies though? Kai.
(What? You think I'd make an au without a healthy dose of RGB sibling angst? You were fooled then insert evil cartoon laughter here😈)
Which made Lloyd's heartache seeing one of the kindest people he used to know, bully and mock weaker people. But Lloyd tries to persevere and befriend Kai, to no avail until one day Lloyd sees Kai nearly get caught by a teacher for smoking. And Lloyd, being Lloyd, saves Kai from getting caught, instead taking the blame saying he's the one who was smoking, not Kai. Kai is shocked when Lloyd saves him and starts to try and treat Lloyd like a friend… By trying to get Lloyd to join him and his goons. Lloyd, not wanting to betray his friends, but also wanting to have his big brother back starts to have a hard time balancing both comfortably.
So, what does he do? He tries to balance both anyway of course! Up until he burns out and goes missing for a week, worrying everyone involved until they hear a rumour that he's staying at Mystake’s house. Nya, Cole, Jay, Zane, and Pixal all go to check on Lloyd, but Kai doesn't, he thinks Lloyd is abandoning him for weirdos and has none of that.. Until he gets a bad feeling (he can't tell what he's feeling, but don't worry everyone, it's just his conscience coming back and making him feel guilty.) for not going to see Lloyd, so he begrudgingly goes to see Lloyd.
Meanwhile; Lloyd is just trying to take a break emotionally after not being able to balance his social life very well.
So, seeing all his friends together, and at each other's throats again, he starts to break down in tears, wanting so badly to go back to his “dream”, where at least his friends were happy together as one big family.
He remembers every detail of his “dream” so much so that seeing who he once saw as family, wanting to fight and argue again, hurts him.
Kai sees Lloyd crying first and grimaces, walking over to Lloyd he hugs Lloyd to comfort him, much to everyone's surprise Lloyd hugs back and cries harder.
Everyone stops arguing and goes to comfort Lloyd until he falls asleep from exhaustion in a group hug.
Once asleep Lloyd finds himself in a weird room that looks like it's a part of Wu’s monastery, looking around on the walls he sees paintings of each of his friends' elements, but each painting is covered in tinted glass boxes. Lloyd tries to uncover the paintings but has no luck, making him feel defeated.
So instead, he tries to leave the room, walking over to the door at the end of the hallway, he tries to open it; and to his shock, it works. Walking out of the weird room he finds himself in Wu’s monastery again, the familiar scent of incense leading him down the halls and into Wu’s library.
He sees the incense stick burning but no one's in the room. Walking over Lloyd sees scrolls sprawled out across the dark oak table in a language he used to understand but now seems like gibberish to him.
It makes Lloyd’s heart ache knowing he can't understand Wu's writing anymore.
(Ngl, I feel like Wu just has horrible handwriting for things that only he'll understand, it's to keep the ninja from snooping.)
After a while he leaves Wu's library and finds himself wandering into where Misako and Garmadons bedroom used to be, on the bedside table of Misako's bed, he finds a photo of him and sensei Garmadon during Christmas hanging up lights on a Christmas tree.
Lloyd leaves the room soon after seeing the photo, and with each room he enters after that, the more grief he feels because he misses his family. As he walks around more, he gets frustrated over the life he had 'lived' in his "dream" and how he can't go back to it, how he can't go back to his family and friends.

lloyd sighed, flopped down on the soft, dark coloured blankets of his fairly well-done bed, boredly watching the sky fade into a gentle blue from a deep night colour. the stars barely twinkled in the light blue of the now brighter sun, clouds were yet to drift around. lloyd turned his head to the door to hide from the shiny gold light that managed to slip through the window, he knew he should not have opened the blinds.
he mumbled a small groan, looking to see jay half awake plopping down on his bed in a similar fashion lloyd had done so a few minutes ago. the difference was he almost nearly knocked out immediately, half from his own grogginess and half from yesterday. lloyd needed to remember to thank him for carrying him up to his room last night.
the blond reached a hand to the bed, blind searching for his phone to find something to do while procrastinating getting ready to go out with nya. patrol was always so tiring, considering sometimes they needed to move away from the city to the smallest villages further south.
but, of course they were not alone in protecting the land, so were the elemental masters they met back when they were teenagers, and barely managing to control the full extent of their elements as respective elemental masters. he smiled fondly of his friends.
he locked the phone he managed to find after finally turning to look back to see the mysterious whereabouts of his disappearing phone, the simple thing evaded his hand every time he managed to nearly grab it.
lloyd shook the hand threading through his hair making the blond strands bounce back and forth, humming softly a well loved song amongst their little group- weekend whip, a little inside joke from back years ago when he first joined the little group of younger kid ninjas by accidently busting down the door to his uncle's house while blasting the song on his headphones. as punishment, lloyd got forced into training for a while before kai figured out that this lil' chaos causer was the destined green ninja.
he smiled at the thoughts of his happier days, flipping through the notifications that puddled in since he jumped in the car. the usual tag and article showed up in the pop-up bar, nothing he found much interest in checking out.
mindlessly he opened twitter, and surprisingly all the usernames were his friends. something he'd never usually see on the daily, usually they'd flock together to make their followers confused over their inside jokes but the use of his name further confused him more.
furthermore, seeing the other elemental masters show up as well surprised him beyond his words, what exactly in the name of fsm happened?

Little Lloyd HCs!
Tumblr media
♢- He used to hide his age regression from the others, but one-day Pixal found him curled up on his bed, thumb in his mouth, clutching a stuffed animal like it was saving his life and she knew something was up.
♢- He regresses to any age under ten, ANY, so the ninja always have to be prepared for anything.
♢- He LOVES physical affection. One little head pat and you're his new best friend for the week.
♢- He used to have only one or two stuffed animals and barely any gear, but after the ninja realized he was a regressor, they bought him so much more than he could even imagine!
♢- Usually very calm, but can be fussy sometimes. Usually, Kai, Zane, or Nya can calm him down.
♢- He is the only one who can make Cole willingly sing (mostly lullabies, but sometimes he just wants to hear Cole's singing).
♢- The ninja have to hide candy from him, but he somehow finds it every. single. time.
♢- He once got so stressed and scared that he both regressed and accidentally transformed into his Oni form. That was...a tale for another day.
♢- On the other hand, dragons always treat him like he's a little baby dragon (he is), which causes him to regress on accident in front of them.
♢- He has TONS of nicknames given to him by the other ninja such as, 'Buddy', 'Bubby', 'Baby/Little Dragon', 'Green Bean', and 'My/Our Baby'.
♢- Since the other ninja feel like they messed up/failed to give Lloyd a good childhood, they do everything to make him happy.
♢- They found a bigger size of the hoodie Lloyd wore when the ninja first met him, and he loves it so much! He wears it 24/7, and he waits right next to the washer and dryer when it's being cleaned.

Baby morro au (also known as me giving him the happy life he deserves). Roughly between season 10 and 11 but it can fit in any peaceful gap with wu
When wu is out walking one day he hears the crying of a child and goes to investigate and maybe help. What he finds is a very small and very much alive Morro (around 3-5 years old). Upon seeing wu, baby morro runs up to him and hugs his leg really tight, so happy to have found his dad. Wu is confused but eventually calms morro down enough to get something of an explanation and figures out that A) morro has no solid memories and has no idea how he got here and B) morro thinks wu is his dad. What a situation.
Wu brings baby morro home and the ninja are not particularly pleased, even after wu explains what he knows. Still, the ninja are good people and can't just separate this little kid from his dad (not that wu would let them, he loves his son). It takes time but eventually the ninja warm up to baby morro because no one can resist that amount of cuteness and overall morro gets all the love he deserves. Wu is so happy to have a second chance and absolutely spoils little morro.
Extra:
Morro is still the master of wind in this au but he's too young to know or understand, though he does use his element on accident alot.
Cole decided he's morros older brother and Lloyd decided to be the best older cousin he can.
Morro does remember some things but not any actual events, more just ideas and feelings. He remembers wu is his dad of course, but other things too. He remembers the ninja as enemies and is scared at first, he remembers liking the green ninja, and he remember some little things like his favorite food being shrimp. He also sometimes gets nightmares about how he died (both times) and it scares the shit out of him

No Title, Just RBG Angst (Puppet AU)
Summary: After over a year, the ninja have tracked down Kai’s location to a small village, but what exactly he’s doing there, none of them could’ve expected.
(Like all Puppet AU content, the AU isn’t mine, it’s @kittydemon9000’s, go look at their cool shit)
The blood in Nya’s veins is boiling.
Seriously, more than it ever has, even for someone like Nadakhan. Because this? This is too far.
It’s been over a year since she last saw her older brother, and she and the others have barely slept, Lloyd especially. Even Misako and Sensei Wu haven’t rested since Kai’s disappearance.
It was supposed to be a simple mission: capture some rouge Serpentine and get them back to the city for Skales to deal with, nothing new there, just a typical Tuesday.
But it was new.
Because Kai never came back, gone without trace.
That’s when the search began. Posters, emails, billboards, TV appearances… anything they could do to get the word out and let people know to be on the lookout…
And that leads to earlier in the day.
Someone had contacted The Bounty, saying they saw someone that looks just like Kai in a village a few hundred miles from Ninjago City. After a year of dead ends, the ninja team ventured out on foot so as to not alert Kai’s kidnappers. If this was, in fact, Kai.
But they found nothing. Many villagers claimed they saw him, but none could tell them where he went.
That’s when they stumbled upon a chalkboard advertisement.
It was for a puppet show, run by some semi-known legacy performer. The ninja went just because they thought they could use a break, something to take their minds off of things…
The puppet should’ve been their first hint something was very wrong.
“It” looked just like Kai, but, since it was just a marionette, the team didn’t- they didn’t think-
They went up to the owner of the show afterwards, a tall, very unsettling person who only addresses themselves by “Puppeteer”. If they only had the purple suit and cape, then yeah, maybe they were just a little eccentric…
But his mask was downright CREEPY.
It was made to look like one of those comedy masks from ancient theater, the kind of stuff Sensei Wu would’ve seen around when he was young.
Anyway, Lloyd asked about the doll, explaining their situation with Kai being missing. They thought that, behind the creepy mask and weirdly on the nose stage name, Puppeteer was truly trying to help them.
They should’ve known better.
The team was allowed backstage to talk privately, away from any stragglers in the audience, which is where Nya saw the puppet hanging from a giant cross brace on stage left. “It” looked even more like her brother up close, even having a chip in “its” “skin” over “its” eye to match Kai’s scar.
Puppeteer called it attention to detail.
Nya calls it sick degeneracy.
While the others talked, Nya’s gaze was kept firmly on the puppet, something about “it” seeming just… too uncanny for her liking.
And that’s when she noticed it.
A detail so small, so perfect, that not even Puppeteer’s alleged “attention to detail” could catch.
A scar. One small, tiny scar ok the puppet’s foot.
A scar on Kai that only he and Nya knew about. One he’d gotten from a minor blacksmithing accident when they were kids.
That’s when it all clicked.
The puppet didn’t just look like Kai…
It was Kai.
All this time he was gone, he was really here, with some traveling show, stuck as the main attraction: a puppet!
Nya couldn’t imagine how long her brother’s been stuck like this. Could he even think anymore? Was he aware of his surroundings? What exactly is the extent of what this monster’s done to him?
Which is why she and the others are currently outside of the carriage they followed Puppeteer to.
They know where Kai is now. They just need to get him back and hopefully reverse whatever magic’s been done to him.
“Zane.” Nya whispers, “Do you hear anyone inside?”
“I do not hear nor sense anyone is currently in the main entrance. We are free to enter.” Zane replies.
Without another thought to the matter, Nya hastily finished picking the lock and quietly sprints into the main room, which appears to be a small auditorium of some kind.
“Kai’s probably somewhere back there!” Lloyd exclaims, frantically gesturing to the stage.
Jay turns around to look at Lloyd annoyedly “Oh, really? This crazed puppet guy who turned Kai into some sideshow puppet wouldn’t just keep his star attraction out on the open?? WHAT A SUR- mrf-!”
Cole covers his friend’s mouth.
“Shut up! Do you want to find out what happens if we’re caught??” He questions.
Jay shakes his head, still glaring at Cole.
“Well then cram it, Zaptrap. This could be our one shot to get Kai back.”
Cole lets go of the motormouth, with a light shove for good measure.
“Stop messing around, guys.” Lloyd comments as he makes his way behind the curtains.
“But they were not, they simply-“ Zane tries to say but is cut off by Cole’s hand on his shoulder.
“Greenie’s just worried, Frosty. Let’s not focus on the semantics.”
Zane nods before he and the rest of the team follow Lloyd backstage, where, much to their dismay, Kai isn’t.
But that’s when they hear it.
Exuding from a seemingly unimportant door, comes music. Older music, sure, but music nonetheless.
Lloyd looks amongst his team before drawing his sword, the others doing the same with their respective weapons, all understanding they may be in for the fight of their lives.
With a deep breath, Lloyd opens the door to reveal…
A corridor.
A long, dark, creepy corridor.
Lloyd motions for the others to follow him, the only lights in their path being the glow of Zane’s eyes.
Nya hates to admit it, but the whole thing is makes her skin crawl. Has this carriage really been Kai’s whole world for a year?
It must’ve been hell…
The music grows louder.
A few doors down, Zane halts the group, pointing to the door they’re currently in front of.
“Here is where the music is coming from.” Zane states.
“Then what are we waiting for??” Nya impatiently asks, “Let’s go get my brother!”
“Perhaps we should think of a plan before we jump to any-“
Zane’s words fall on deaf ears as Nya and Lloyd bust open the door, trident and sword ready to maim Puppeteer at a moment’s notice.
But that isn’t what they come across when inside.
No, instead of anger, the sight makes their hearts simultaneously drop and pound in their chests. The siblings’ grips on their weapons loosing as their eyes widen in shock, tears pricking at their eyes.
Why?
Because in the door, dancing almost hauntingly perfectly, is Kai.
Not a puppet, nor made of a wood, just… Kai.
He’s in a black dance uniform with his hair slicked down, but he’s still Kai!
“Kai!” Nya exclaims, “We- We’re here! We’re gonna bring you home!”
The master of water’s hear pounds in anticipation of her brother’s response…
But none comes.
“Kai..?” Lloyd asks, “You- you do know who we are, right?”
Nya’s heart practically stops at Lloyd’s insinuation. She hadn’t considered the idea of brainwashing. Puppeteer could’ve convinced Kai of anything he wanted if that was the case…
Maybe even something like forgetting his family.
“Hairgel, this isn’t the time to be ignoring us.” Cole steps into the room, “You need to stop dancing.”
Kai makes a leap across the room…
Still no response.
“Ugh! This is IMPOSSIBLE!” Jay groans, “We’re not gonna get Kai back because he’s probably been BRAINWASHED into thinking this is ok and that- OW!”
Cole smacks the back of Jay’s head.
“Motormouth, he’s been stuck here for a year! Maybe think about that before talking!
Jay rubs his head, but shuts up.
“Kai… please, answer us.” Nya pleads, “We’re going to rescue you! You don’t have to be here anymore! Not- Not with that monster!”
Kai halts his dance, side-eyeing his sister.
The ninja hold their breaths.
Kai silently walks over to the record player, where the music was evidently coming from, and turns it of.
“And what makes you think I want to leave?” He asks monotonously.
“What?” Nya gasps, “B-Because you were kidnapped! We’ve been looking-“
“If you were looking, you would’ve found me earlier.” Kai accuses.
“Realistically, given that you were constantly changing locations, no, we could not have.” Zane rebuts.
“Heh- oh yeah? Then I’m sure you all immediately realized who I was onstage then, right?”
The group falls silent…
Nya wants to say something, but even she didn’t realize until seeing Kai up close.
“That’s what I thought. Just do us all a favor and forget I’m here, I’m not interested in rejoining you all.”
“But- Kai-“ Lloyd chokes out.
“Don’t ‘but Kai’ me! You all abandoned me!” Kai shouts, tears sparkling in the corners of his eyes.
“We were looking! We haven’t stopped this whole time!”
“Then why didn’t you find me?! It’s not like I was in the same village I disappeared in for *days* after Puppeteer took me in!”
“We- we checked the whole village! People saw you run off… but not where to.”
“Yeah. I’m sure.”
“Where’s your uniform?” Jay asks without thinking, “You’re kinda gonna need it for-“
“Don’t you get it?!” Kai snaps back, “*This* is my uniform now.”
“You’re not a dancer, Kai.” Cole adds.
“You’re absolutely right.” Kai responds, leaving the others at a loss for words.
Not a dancer? But that’s what he’s been doing, is it not? If not a dancer, then what-
“I’m Puppeteer’s doll now.”
“…What?!” Nya demands, anger rising in her voice.
“Did I stutter?? I said-”
“We heard you.” Lloyd interjects, “But this isn’t you! You- you’re a ninja, Kai! You’re not some- some doll!”
“Last I checked, I get a say in what I am, and I’ve gotta say: being a doll for Puppeteer is better than being a ninja for you any day! So leave me alone and stop acting like we’re still family!”
A silence befalls the ninja.
Lloyd’s sword drops.
Nya has to catch her brother, who almost collapses in shock.
“The hell, Kai?!”
“Hestia.”
“What-“
“I don’t really use ‘Kai’ anymore.” He states, shockingly unresponsive to his little brother’s plight.
“But that’s your name!” Nya shouts back, “You’re Kai! Kai Smith! Master of Fire! Red Ninja! Our brother!”
“Well, it’s too bad you threw away all of those things when you decided to stop looking for me! Puppeteer warned me you’d try to lie like this, and I’m not fucking having it, ok?! I’m not Kai, I’m not your brother, and I’m absolutely NOT a ninja! Ok?!”
Nya grits her teeth, eyes narrowing at her brother.
“SHUT UP AND LISTEN TO YOURSELF! YOU’VE BEEN BRAINWASHED, KAI! LET US HELP YOU!”
“Well I-”
“𝐿𝒾𝓉𝓉𝓁𝑒 𝒮𝓅𝒶𝓇𝓀𝓁𝑒𝓇? Is everything alright?” A voice comes from the doorway.
The ninja all snap their heads to face Puppeteer, mask and voice has chipper as before.
Nya hands Lloyd off to Zane.
“Everything is NOT alright you SON OF A-“
As Nya draws her sword to attack, a wall of fire separates her from Puppeteer.
“H-Huh?” She looks at back to brother, flames licking his frame as his arms are outstretched.
“Don’t hurt him. He’s more my family than you were.” Kai glares.
Nya would be lying if she said that didn’t sting.
“And no, Puppeteer, they were just watching me practice our new routine and were about to leave.” he continues.
“Like hell we-“
“Please, escort them out.”
“Kai… we’re not going to leave-“ Lloyd tries to say, but is cut off.
“Out. Now.”
Nya’s grip on her trident tightens as her whole body tenses.
She- she can’t leave her brother. She just- she can’t! He’s so clearly been brainwashed by this lunatic that he- he-
“AUGH!” Nya shouts, all of her pain and frustration unable to be put into words.
“𝒪𝒽 𝓂𝓎, you are quite the 𝒻𝒾𝑒𝓈𝓉𝓎 one, aren’t you?” Puppeteer comments.
“Cram it, asshole! You’re nothing more than a fucking monster!”
Puppeteer falls silent for a moment.
“𝐿𝒾𝓉𝓉𝓁𝑒 𝒮𝓅𝒶𝓇𝓀𝓁𝑒𝓇, might I..?”
“Don’t, it’ll just convince them more I’m somehow suffering here. Just… get them out some other way.”
“Ah, 𝐼 𝓈𝑒𝑒.” Puppeteer comments, looking around at the ninja before speaking once more, this time in some kind of… unknown language.
Nya conjures a torrent of water, channeling all of her rage, all of her fury, and all of her pain into one singular blast of water, and once it’s fired…
It slices a tree clean in half.
…A tree? But they were all just-
Looking around, Nya and the others notice how they’re no longer in the carriage, but, rather, about a few yards away from it outside.
…What?
Before anyone can properly react, the sound of clopping hooves and turning wheels echos throughout the thin forest.
The carriage- it’s leaving.
No- not now, not today, LIKE FUCKING HELL THEY’RE TAKING HER BROTHER AWAY AGAIN!
And so, Nya runs.
For how long? She couldn’t tell you.
But by the end of it, the carriage is at least half a mile away and the sun is peeking up over the horizon.
She falls to the ground, legs too exhausted to carry her anymore.
She isn’t sure when she falls asleep, but she wakes back in bed to Misako holding a cold washcloth onto her forehead.
Misako says something Nya doesn’t understand.
But she doesn’t care.
She’d care if her brother were around.
But he isn’t.
She failed.

Supernatural au ninja! A quick sketch of heights and all that!
Au tidbits and character reasoning under the cut
Lloyd is self-explanatory. His heritage is already Oni, so I just made him more oni-presenting. I imagine that his dad, Garmadon, is completely oni presenting - like the series. This would mean the whole four armed shebang and all that. I want to play into the whole shape-shifting part of being an oni as well. Perhaps he often hides his oni parts because he is reminded of his father, whom I believe left him alone with Misako, alone (who is human, who doesnt know how to raise an oni, who cant protect him, cant teach him, cantcantcant). After a long while living with Misako, who had grown bitter raising such an "evil" child, he ran away. Maybe at around the same age as he was in s1. The ninja found him and raised him - not as a human but as a supernatural, an oni. I think in this au, the ninjas are hiding out someplace. Because of Lloyd's shape-shifting ability, he would often be the one to go on supply runs for food, clothing, etc. The others are terrified of letting their little brother out into the wild by himself, but they don't really have a choice. He often takes form as a pre-teen/teen so people dome question him when he goes into stores by himself. Perhaps he started feeling like he was more useful older, so he stayed that form. The others resent that but can't convince him otherwise. (He doesn't want them to leave him. He's useful so useful he can help, please)
Nya is the second youngest and is, well, water. I think the s14 was a really good supernatural base for her. She's fluid water like the series, but she certainly has a better grasp on her body, seeing as she lived like that since birth. When she gets surprised or shocked, she might make a splash or melt her form unconsciously, though. She's very touch starved. I think her and Kai's parents were hunted or something of the likes, and she never saw them again. She lived her entire life with her brother, who is her complete elemental opposite. When she was younger and woke from nightmares terrified, she sought out her brother. She wanted so badly the comfort and warm embrace of her family, but she couldn't touch him without hurting him. The first time she accidently brushed against him was when her parents were still around- she reached out towards him as a baby and her body splashed happily towards him. She still remembers his scream and the days following it when he couldn't use his left hand. She works hard on her mechs and other devices so someday she'll find a way to protect him from water. Somehow, she'll find it. That day will be the happiest day of her life, when she can give her lovely older brother a nice, tearful hug.
Jay is a satyr. I don't know why. He gives the crafty, bubbly personality that I imagine a satyr would have. Unlike most of his friends, he had been raised by completely human parents. One day, Ed and Edna found a small boy bundled in worn cloth crying in the forest next to their scrap yard. They couldn't help but take him in and give him love, no matter how furry his legs. Of course, they didn't exactly know how to care for him, so they made due with reading all about goats and myths and horse-hoof care in their local library and then some. The librarian had learnt to set aside those types of books when someone donated some so she could give them to the nice elderly couple who so eagerly love mythology. Jay grew up and prospered around the many, many scraps so he can be his creative self. His scrapyard was his forest, the machines he made were his nymphs and furry friends. The Walkers let him use whatever he wanted for his endeavors, but they did get quite worried when they saw a bite mark in a piece of metal. When he met Cole, who adores music, he immediately made himself instruments and they both made a quaint little "band." They play a strange combination of folk, rock, and classical. They don't know how it works but it does. He gets emotional often and the ninja cheer him up by either letting him play music, rant about starfarer, or get him a "forbidden" snack. Do not let him near the wooden pencils oh my gosh he eats them so quickly no one knows how he does it but you look away for one second and he's halfway through the pencil and it's wood and- JAY DONT EAT THE TABLE WE EAT ON THAT
Kai, the fire boy, the perpetual older brother. He grew up too fast, taking care of Nya and working hard to put food on the table. He learned that the world is unkind far too quickly. He did small jobs for everyone to get money and tried to improve his smithing skills. When he realized their parents' emergency money stash started to deplete and his unsteady income wasn't funding much more than the occasional oatmeal, he started looking into underground or supernatural fighting. He, at the ripe age of 14, had become one of the most feared supernatural fighters in the ring. He came home battered and bruised to his little sister - stop worrying so much, lil' sis! I'm fine! You know how clumsy I am with the hammer haha - and cooked food and helped her study - yes it is very important to study! You don't want to end up like me, do you? You need a degree. When he got older and saw a little oni kid running away from some digustingrevoltinghowdareyouhurthimimgoingtokillyou people, his big brother instincts told him to help. So, he did. He brought him back home to his little sister and their little family got bigger. Next came Cole, then Jay and Zane. His family got bigger and bigger and the responsibilities heavier and heavier. He had to protect them, it was his job, he cannot let anything hurt them, it was his job, he does the dirty work for them, it was his job. When Cole found out about his tendencies to put everyone else above himself when they were running away from hunters and Kai tried to sacrifice himself, he was not happy. They had a nice, long chat that ended in Kai promising to delegate his responsibilities and relaxing a bit. He's reminded that he isn't the only older brother anymore. His family can take care of themselves, yes. He's still needed, loved, important, but they are responsible. They can protect themselves. He can finally, finally lower his hands and release his fighting stance. He can sink into the relaxing domestic lifestyle that they were able to live in.
Cole is a werewolf- big, beefy, and protective. He didn't have the big brother instincts like Kai, no, but he certainly had the burning need to take care of his family. If Zane was the mom friend, Cole was the dad. He thinks it has something to do with his horrible relationship with his dad, so he wants to be better. His dad abandoned him when Cole started presenting more were-like. Lou could excuse the strange sharper teeth, the large pointy ears, and the love of the moon. But when he came home one day to a half-teen boy, half-wolf with the snout to complete it, he exiled Cole. He knew his dear Lily wasn't human, he knew. Well, he knew in theory. She had told him, but she was aware of the stipulations around it. So, she made sure he was never home when the reality reared its ugly head. She died before she could show him the real her. Lou thought something was so horribly wrong with his son. He was a monster, a freak- Lily was never like this, never destructive, always so sweet, kind, perfect. This wasn't his son. So, he kicked Cole out with the clothes on his back. Of course, Cole couldn't take any of the belongings in his room- Lou would wait until the real Cole came home. This boy was an imposter. He couldn't be his son. Cole left and had to scrounge around for food, dumpster to dumpster, person to person, begging pleading for scraps. Kai was on a walk with Lloyd, taking him to go get the newest issue of Starfarer, hood over his blazing hair and amber eyes when he caught sight of a beast in an alley. He paused. He hid Lloyd behind him as he walked closer to the animal. Kai was surprised to find out that it wasn't an animal, but a malnourished, frightened werewolf clinging tightly to a half-empty days old McDonald's bag are those bugs crawling over that burger or is he crazy. Cole was brought back to the little family and he became more of himself. Stronger, faster, filled with unbridled rage and unwilting kindness. Where Kai might directly bring his family somewhere they enjoyed or bought them their favorite treat, or where Zane might keep their teacup full or bake them a cake for a small accomplishment, Cole would be a steady rock of support for his family. If anyone needed a shoulder to cry on, a hand to hold, or an ear to listen, he was always the one they would go to. He could be drawing or reading and his ear might twitch and seconds later he would walk and find the sad soul that he could just feel needed him. They don't know if that's a werewolf thing or a Cole thing.
Zane is still a robot, just less human looking. His face is full of pixels and moves just like those cool mask thingies. His creator, his father, had sort of a Frankestein "I can do it so I'll do it moment," even if it wasn't exactly right. He stole parts and scraps around the world and had thought that he had created a working artificial human, but Zane didn't start up. He found that he could not start without a proper heart - a human heart. So - in the name of science - he dug his first grave. It was of a young teen named Zane, who died just a few weeks prior. He stole the heart and placed it into his machine, hoping for his new creation to work perfectly as his assistant. Zane worked. He woke up, confused, scared, whereamiwhoamiwhatamipleasehelpwhatsgoingonmomdadwhereareyou and was promptly shut down again due to his emotional tendencies. To stop this malfunction, Dr. Julien wired Zane's heart to power his body, not his mind. Which... worked? He was a living doll- he listened obediently to his maker. Dr. Julien's fatal mistake was trying to make another. He was caught trying to dig into another grave and taken away by authorities. Without Dr. Julien, Zane was stuck in the lab by himself for years before someone found him. This someone was a curious and lost Jay. He had left Ed and Edna because hunters came knocking on their door. He was told to run. He did. He found this cute little house in the middle of the woods and knocked on it. When no one answered, he tried the door and it opened. He looked around and found a hidden basement, of which the young satyr curiously explored. He found a basically falling apart Zane sitting in the corner, unresponsive. He noticed how much pain he was in and decided to do something about it. He fixed the wiring to Zane's heart and they had a nice conversation, mostly comforting Zane and informing him of his humanity and how yes be deserves to live no he is not an abomination stop Zane please stop messing with your heart latch don't do that pleasepleaseplease. A while later, they decided to leave the house together. They wanted to find others like them and they were able to do that when they saw a watery girl inside the ocean throwing a frisbee, a young horned boy making a sand castle, a man made of fire fanning himself, and a hairy man runningrunningrunning for the frisbee very happily. The fire one spotted them and noticed their unnaturalness and called them over, not before alerting his family to stay back and looking over to Cole to take Lloyd someplace farther back. Jay and Zane explained their situation and Kai happily let them stay with them, though he did watch Jay when he made those googly eyes -they're not googly eyes! Yes, I believe they are, Jay. My database says that when-- SHUDDUP!!!- at his sister.
And so, the family became, well, a family. All six of the unlikely nonhumans friends, together. Fighting, protecting and loving through the harsh (untrue) words and comfortable moments that any family goes through.
Thank you for reading this <3 I have a bit of ninja brainrot right now and I finished making this post/art in like 2 hours

How is the morro situation handled considering... well... everything?
Good question!
So the Morro stuff in the past goes fairly similarly to cannon. He was a homeless kid that Wu found scavenging for food in the garbage cans outside of the Monastery. At that point, Wu hadn't fully succumbed to the Venom, but due to Misako and Garmadon recently becoming a couple he wasn't doing very well.
Morro, like Kai and Nya, is distantly descended from Wojira, and bc of that he's partly dragon. This subconsciously brings out some of Wu's draconic instincts to protect the abandoned hatchling, and leads to Morro trusting Wu almost immediately.
Like in cannon, Wu takes Morro in, and starts training him once he discovers Morro is the Elemental Master of Wind. And this actually starts to help Wu cope with the Venom better than anything had, like how in cannon the one thing Garmadon was able to hold on to when the Venom overwhelmed him was how much he loved Lloyd.
But, there's one big difference from cannon; Wu does everything he can to hide the Green Ninja Prophecy from Morro. He see's how strong Morro is at such a young age, and feels like he could possibly be the Green Ninja. But that would mean that Morro, whom Wu has come to see as his own child, is destined to fight and defeat Wu. He refuses to let that happen.
Unfortunately, Wu can't control everything.
Morro discovers the Prophecy on accident, and wonders if Wu has been training him to be the Green Ninja. But when he asks about it, it triggers an episode with the Venom; the first one he had since adopting Morro.
Wu loses it and terrifies Morro. He runs away, and blames himself. He doesn't know about the Venom, and thinks Wu got so upset bc Morro wasn't nearly good enough to be the Green Ninja and him even thinking he was a potential GN was an insult. So the boy figures if he can do something big and grand and impressive, he would prove to Wu that he isn't a waste of time and space.
Something like finding the Tomb of the First Spinjitzu Master.
Meanwhile, once Wu's Venom fueled episode dies down and he realizes what he just did, he is distraught. He searches for Morro, swallowing his anger and feelings of betrayal to ask Garmadon and Misako for help. But Morro is never found.
He still dies in the Caves of Despair, and his ghost is still stuck in the Cursed Realm.
Fast forward, and Morro gets out of the Curse Realm. Wu has been defeated, as has Chen, and Morro heads to the Museum to start his part of the Preeminent's plan to Curse all 16 Realms.
Which is where we get to the part where things can go a few different ways.
At this point, all of our main characters will have found out that Lloyd is the actual Green Ninja, not Kai. But that isn't publicly known; I haven't decided if the public definitely knows Kai isn't actually the GN, since everyone knows the truth about Wu now, but at the very least people suspect that Kai isn't actually the Prophesied Green Ninja.
((There's actually quite a few people who think Garmadon is the Green Ninja since he defeated Wu, but thats stuff for a different post))
Either way, Kai is still wearing the Green Gi and doing anything that can be considered 'Greed Ninja Duties'. He's not doing it bc he wants to hold onto the title though; Lloyd doesn't get hit with Tommorows Tea, so he's still only like, 11. After learning the truth, Kai kinda hates being the Green Ninja, but he'll chew off one of his own limbs before letting the Green Ninja Prophecy steal someone else's childhood.
So Kai gets possesed. And things quickly get messy.
Morro and Kai have a lot of similarities in cannon; in VT, those similarities get ramped up to 11. They see each others memories of being raised by Wu, and they both get angry. They also start to empathize with each other greatly, and where Kai ends and Morro starts gets blurred. They quickly get to the point where They throw the Preeminent's plan out the window in favor of a new plan.
Find Wu and make him pay for what he did to Them.
It's easy to brush off the other ghost's concerns; no-one knows what happened to the FSM's staff after Wu traded it out for the Mega Weapon except for Wu, so going after him is the easiest way forward.
Unfortunately for Them, Wu was briefly transformed into an Anacondrai with Chen and the rest of his followers, and his cell wasn't built to hold an Anacondrai, so he used the opportunity to escape from Kryptarium, and hasn't been seen since.
I haven't decided on if Morro sticks around as a member of the main cast after everything is over, and what the full consequences of him possessing Kai are. But he does get a full redemption arc, even if he won't survive it.
Sooo yeah.

Theories I had that are headcanons/slightly canon to this AU
I'm just gonna put out on a whim here and say, if you ever reblogged a post that has the same theory as mine and it has the display name 'lilacartsmadison' that disappeared all of a sudden, then most likely that was mine, but I had accidently deleted my acc so now you can't see it...
also, for story purposes, this theory will play into the AU.
So I've seen a lot of people try to 'rewrite' Ninjago, and I definitely I understand and actually am interested in what people rewrite it as, buuut...for me, I wanna sorta 'rewrite' an inconsistency in my AU.
specifically, a headcanon I had that inspired a theory.
SO, I know that Ninjago's magic system is all wacked up and that Lloyd's connection to the elements doesn't make sense...and that's because they had to...'go with the flow' and improvise it. But I decided to fix the inconsistency and turn it canon here in this AU
so I propose these theories
1.) None of the Ninjas stood a chance with becoming the Green Ninja and it was not because of 'Destiny'
Lloyd was going to be the Green Ninja from the moment of Birth. Whatever Finnwick said in Cloud Kingdom was a lie. The Green Ninja was always going to be Lloyd.
The thing I asked myself is, what makes the Green Ninja the Chosen One? The prophecy stated that he would be the one to defeat the Overlord...But with what? And that got me thinking, that being the 'Green Ninja' meant that the Chosen One should retain the elements of creation once more, time and time again, both Oni and Dragon powers (specifically the Four Elements or at least one of them) seam to weaken the Overlord, and not just any 'Oni Power' like Garmadon's seems to be pure Oni, but specifically, the one who wields both sides of the powers, the one who wields both Oni and Dragon.
The Overlord gets weakened, by Lloyd's power the first time he is defeated, only appearing as a computer virus, all because Cyrus Borg built it in the place he died. He was shun out as a virus when the Ninja used Lloyd's power after hearing him while being stuck in the Digiverse. Zane legit apparently absorbed the power of the Golden Armor so any mere mortal could touch it. (So that would mean pre-MOTO, Lloyd, Garmadon and WU could potentially touch it?) who's to say that Zane couldn't defeat him that way all because he absorbed the powers of Creation? and in Ninjago Crystallized, again the four elements or the Dragon element defeated the Overlord, but the Oni Power did great damage to him compared to Garmadon's power.
So the key should possibly be 'One who posses the power of the First Spinjitsu Master.' and since the Elements in this world, seem to be either HEREDITARY or UP TO DESTINY and with Lloyd being FSM's grandson, it seems very likely Lloyd's powers were hereditary.
2.) All the powers of the Ninja were given to Lloyd.
The reason that the other Ninjas didn't get their powers through hereditary means, is because the powers had to return to Lloyd or at the very least be given back so that Lloyd could get the full powers of Creation. Which is why the Ninja couldn’t inherit their elemental powers. Lloyd needed the four elements in order to gain his true potential, thus, skipping the ‘original bearers’ to the true bearer. This could also be the reason that Wu had the Green Ninja Prophecy in his satchel in the first place. Wu saw that the Ninja somehow didn’t inherit their powers, and took it as a sign that The Green Ninja was coming. Which also explains another thing.
I feel like that the Golden Weapons are also related to the original elements in a sense. It is already confirmed that you can heal it from corruption if you use your respective elements and channel it. But what if the one who wields all 4 elements is the reason the Golden Weapons reacted in the first place? If Lloyd inherited all four elements, which hasn’t been done before, then it would explain how the Golden Weapons would react if the Green Ninja was near its proximity. Probably how Misako found out. How does this confirm though? Well in earlier seasons, The Four Ninja don’t have their elemental powers yet, and the first time we see the Golden Weapons react to Lloyd in the form of the Armor it glows. Granted this is just speculation and Garmadon was there with him, but what’s a theory without good speculation?
Anyways, story-wise it could try and fix the inconsistency and why the Ninja needed Lloyd to get their powers back. Lloyd as the Green Ninja inherited the powers of the Four Elements in order to become the Chosen One and defeat the Overlord.
The elements were hereditary but, with Lloyd’s birth it basically had a choice. Hereditary by the means of the bearers of the Elemental Powers or Hereditary means by the FSM.
There was no choice at the matter, honestly, I believe if Lloyd had a sibling or biological cousin, there would definitely be a choice made by the Cloud Kingdom, but since he was the only grandson to the FSM via hereditary means, he’s the only heir with Oni and Dragon powers.
3.) The reason why Gramadon nor Wu somehow can’t tap into each other’s powers.
Something that’s also bothering me that could rip a hole into the ‘Lloyd was never chosen, it was always gonna be him either way’ theory into shreds and that’s Garmadon and Wu, if Lloyd was supposed to gain both Creation and Destruction powers why him? Why not the sons themselves? My first speculation is biased…and it seems to be the case…
After all, Garmadon’s full Oni form has Dragon Wings.
But why doesn’t Wu have it? Like he could just do it?
I feel like, because Lloyd since he can control both, (There’s a theory from a tumblr user that Lloyd can control both if he’s using the Green Powers. Honestly it makes sense since, ‘The Energy powers’ have to be created then they are created to destroy) using Green Powers, without any personal bias (He just refuses the Oni form) which is why he is the Green Ninja
He has balance, he is trained to KEEP the balance, whereas Garmadon and Wu are personally biased. Wu not only using his powers less, but only using creation, and Garmadon Destruction. United, they were powerful and they were keeping balance and peace. But when they separated, the balance begun to shake off-course. With Lloyd he kept the balance in check, he did things that Wu and Garmadon could not. Balancing himself as a person and holding the responsibility as a Ninja. Thus making him the Green Ninja.
Though that doesn’t exclude the existence of ‘Destiny’ here ‘destiny’ still plays a role, making sure Lloyd becomes the Green Ninja instead of Choosing him. They had to make sure he was born, had to make sure that he was the Green Ninja. Wu and Garmadon had to be biased. The FSM had to die and Quanish had to predict the future for the Green Ninja. Perhaps…perhaps destiny did indeed choose Lloyd, but not in the way that it made it sound, Perhaps his destiny as the Green Ninja was paved and built upon, forged for his fate. But in any way…Lloyd will always be the Green Ninja, due to hereditary means and fate.

Random ninjago hcs, go!
Mistake isn't dead! she was badly injured in her fight with Garmadon in Hunted but used Oni trickery (shapeshifting) to assume a new identity deep within the city. The only person who knows she's still alive is Lloyd. He found her on accident while walking down the street and was able to sense that it was her
more of an Au but I hc that either just after the Garmadon comics or Just before Crystalized, Garmadon was sent back in time to just after he died in Possession. Mostly it was the universe or FSM showing him his son and how much he needed him/loved him. But the kicker was that he could only watch. He was like a ghost. No one could see or hear him so he just watched Lloyd go through All the Posession shit and how much he'd missed Sensei Garmadon. It's the inciting incident that makes Garmadon go to Vinny and try to learn how to be good again
Kai absolutly has a scrapbook/photo album that he's always working on. It's massive and one of the ones where you can add more and more pages to. It's filled with photos and keepsakes of the team. He started a little after Lloyd was aged up by putting the first pictures they took together as a team into the album. But now it's huge and there may or may not be tear tracks on some of Nya's pictures bc he'd flip through them after Seabound (He thinks the other ninja don't know about it but they all do and they think it's super sweet)
Lloyd can sing! He's actually pretty good and he loves a lot of the same music as Cole. So they'll put music on sometimes and just jam out. The first time he started singing really loud in the car the others just stopped and stared bc they had no idea he was so good at it. Nowdays (DR) he's Always humming and singing to hismelf to pass the time and as a way to remember the members of his family they still havn't found
more on Garmadon bc he's my favorite sorry
While he was imprisoned in the Cursed Realm, he was able to sort of extend his senses and watch over Lloyd. He saw everything that was happening but was unable to help. It's probably only possible bc of his father being FSM and shit but it's a super useful thing bc it helps pass the time yk. He Knows he's going to spend eternity in there; you don't die in the Cursed Realm. You just turn into a ghost once you're relased. So he knew he would never get to live again. But he was okay with that bc his son was OKAY and happy and protected by his friends.
But then Morro shows up and I bet the reason Garmadon is the ony one fully chained rather than just in a little cell like Chen and Clouse, is because he raised absolute Hell to try and get to Lloyd. And he nearly Did. He nearly became the first person to escape on his own. But the Preimenent caught on and nearly destroyed him before she chained him so tightly that he could never escape. She made sure he was too weak to put up a fight liek that again. Tho i think if given a few months Garmadon would have been able to escape. Thats why he looks Like That when Lloyd sees him at the end of Possession
Garmadon also Knew that the Preimenent was going to be destroyed and was actually at peace when he went to the Departed Realm.
A part of him (the good part) remained in that realm for a long time, even after Harumi brought back the Oni part of him. But through time and his Oni part's hard work, he's slowly beginnign to re-merge his seperate selves. It's not really a conscious thing but it is happening.

Note
absolute mess of my random ninjago headcanons if you still want them:
-Cole is HoH and wears an earring on the ear that hears better so people remember which direction to talk
-Jay and Lloyd are both ADHD (Lloyd is autistic as well) and united they are a force of chaos. they nerd out over starfarer and other hyperfixations they've shoved at each other over the years, and have gone to cons together
-Cole and Zane are also both autistic. Zane is aware of the notable difference between how he communicates/behaves and how the average person does. Cole often doesn't know and doesn't care. This results in both of them being different flavors of socially awkward but Cole being 10x more confident about it. It ends up helping Zane to feel more accepted and to gain confidence in himself as well.
-Garmadon had a section of time between seasons 2 and 3 where he was no longer evil but was just a weirdo because he was trying to enjoy life again and went through some Phases. he attempted to learn a bunch of jokes for a while. it was painful. but Lloyd, Misako, and Wu were just glad to see him happy and free again
-Nya gives really good hugs, but is hesitant to ask for affection for herself. she fears depending on others too greatly, and this was a strain on her relationship with Jay until they talked some things out.
-Jay's music taste is like *7 dubstep songs in a row, anime theme song, more dubstep, money machine by 100 gecs, more dubstep, random 80's love song with the opposite vibe of the entire playlist, more dubstep, 6 consecutive 100 gecs songs, thunderstruck by ACDC, more dubstep--*
-Cole cannot STAND this
-Kai is dyslexic but didn't know it for years and thought reading must just be Like That
-Pixal helped Zane run diagnostics on himself when she was in his head. Without her he has a bit more difficulty figuring out where he is damaged or if he needs maintenance. he's somewhat out of touch with his body at times
-Lloyd, Jay, and Nya all bit people when they were kids
-Kai has therefore been bitten by both Lloyd and Nya. and threatened by Jay
-Wu genuinely doesn't remember his age at this point. like why keep counting
-Zane bribed his way into Lloyd's heart with food very early into the friendship and they've always been chill with each other since
-Kai always felt untalented as a kid while Nya seemed to be able to pick up a wide range of skills and hobbies, so his abilities as a ninja are more personal and vital to him than to most of the team
-every single one of them has accidentally called Wu dad
ooug u sent a lot!!! thank you! the numbered points r corresponding to the hcs points
2.
Tumblr media
they're debating if it's worth going for the other con days after the first day
4. garmadon would've been alive for way too long so he's also has time earlier going thru different phases
6. ed also collected old music that he might've found/bought and would play them a lot at home so there's just a bunch of super old n obscure music in the mix
8. the others would've noticed smth might've been wrong once he starts trying to reading smth long out loud
11. kai being bitten by nya n lloyd can just be excused since they are kids. jay has no excuse, he will die if he actually bit kai.
12. both him and garmadon didnt keep any track from the beginning since FSM didn't need to remember when they were born, it's not like they would've needed to fill out some kinda documents or smth? i don't think so at least. right now they do have fake birth dates just for the sake of documents tho
14. when they were younger, kai didn't have any time to focus on hobbies and wanted to help out his neighbors that took him and nya in as much as they could and any free time he had he would spend it w nya or attempting to blacksmith
15. in the beginning when only a few of them did call wu "dad" by accident, they would make fun of each other for making such a mistake but once all of them has accidentally called wu "dad" at least once they would just stop making fun of each other bc theyd be made fun of back

(☞゚ヮ゚)☞ eyyyyyy I pop from the void to again haunt your blog!
Could I ask for a one-shot where Reader joined the Ninja by accident?
They didn't think that taking in and caring for the son of Lord Garmadon after the Ninja hung up him on their work's shop sign would result in becoming a member of a dysfunctional group!
-🖋
(Basically Reader being at wit's end with the Ninja for how they treat Lloyd)
PENON!!!!💞💓💘💞💓💗❤
Hmmm I imagine the ninja wouldn't get along with them very well at first, but it's not like they can kick them out because Lloyd will have a fit. They get along eventually obviously, but it's just a little rough at first.
Sobbing because I completely missed the bottom part and instead turned the whole thing into why the reader would join the ninja instead of sneaking off with Lloyd-
Wisteria
You sighed heavily, glaring at the Anacondrai in front of you as you hoisted a napping Lloyd higher up on your back. He insisted you call him Pythor, but you refused to do such a thing.
You grew up in a ruthless war village, who trained its citizens to either fight or tend to the injured. Those who were too weak to fend for themselves were taught the finest medical practices available at the time. This made your village a highly sought after ally during wars, and a last resort for families with sicknesses they didn't know how to cure. With your intelligence and strength, you were able to not only go through your entire battle training, but also have enough extra time to learn basic medicine and first aid as well. Once you were an adult, you left to do personal work around Ninjago.
Thus, growing up in this small yet powerful village skewed your look on the outside world. You saw children as weak things that needed protection, and your trust issues with adults led you to refuse help from anyone. When you went to Jamanakai village, you found Lloyd strung up by the back of his shirt, and after helping him down, he didn't want to stop following you. You didn't mind it at first, just warning him that you were a dangerous person and that he should go back home, but he told you he had no home, so now the two of you were wandering through Ninjago, unleashing Serpentine left and right at Lloyd's whim. You quickly went from doing what you wanted to do with Lloyd tagging along, to you following him around to protect him and care for him.
Right now, you were on your way to Darkley's school for bad boys. Or something like that, you didn't quite care enough. You were currently thinking of a way to keep Lloyd from hurting himself and others without making him upset. Pythor sighed from beside you, "we've known each other long enough, yet you still don't trust me?"
You tilt your head to look up at him. There's something about the face that he's making that makes him seem insincere. "People like you are a lost cause. I'm not here to take over the world, I'm here to make it better. I can still fix things; convince others to be good. But I can sense you don't want the same things I do; there's no need to talk to you."
He thinks it over, humming. "I suppose someone like you wouldn't trust a snake, hm?"
You don't take the bait. He just wants to argue. You adjust Lloyd on your shoulders again, and continue on in silence. When you arrive at Darkley's, you wake up the tired boy, and he becomes excited. "We should capture and tie up everyone!"
You shake your head, folding your arms, "sorry, Punk, I can't let you do that to the other kids in there." You address him by his nickname.
You catch his disappointed frown, and Pythor looks at him oddly, "you don't have to listen to them, they sound like a party pooper."
"Then it's a good thing I have a plan B, huh?" You smirk, holding up stink bombs.
Lloyd's eyes glow, "you always do!"
You all plan together, to tie up the teachers, then use the stink bombs to flush out all the kids. There wasn't much to do after that except for set up traps for the ninja, then gloat. Your job was to set off the stink bomb while Lloyd set the traps and Pythor captured the teachers.
Once that was all done, the three of you sat up on the roof and waited. You told Lloyd old tales from your village while Pythor looked off into the distance, probably doing more scheming than looking out for ninja.
"-and when her lover died, she mourned for 100 years, and cried so much that her tears grew the forest that protects our village from outsiders." You finished your story. Lloyd listened in awe. "It's said that every time a child is born, a new tree appears in the forest. If I take you to my village, I'll show you where my tree is. It's a simple oak tree, but the trunk is wide and sturdy, like me."
"Do you think I have a tree?" He asks.
You shake your head, "no, you weren't born in my village, but if you did, it would definitely be Wisteria."
He's about to say something, but the three of you hear screaming right over your head. You look up, just in time to catch the sight of a falling anchor, with only half a second to lunge towards Lloyd to get him out of the way. He coughs a little, dust floating around in the air from the destruction as you land a little away from the impact.
Growling angrily, you turn to shout down into the hole the ninja left, "you shitheads could've killed someone! What is wrong with you?!" The guilty little 'sorry's that come from them don't satisfy you.
"Hey, Punk, stay here, I'm gonna fight them for you, okay?" You salute him then drop down the hole.
"Go (Y/N)! You kick their sorry butts!" He cheers for you.
The ninja look at you in confusion. "You came down by yourself?"
"Yeah, four to one's hardly a fair fight."
You can hear the smirking in their voices, "we're pretty strong, just saying."
You change your stance to look more intimidating. Someone needed to put these cocky ninja in their place. "And why do you think you haven't fought me before?" You grin, cracking your knuckles and showing off your teeth. The bravest one, the red one, runs at you with his sword. You can tell they aren't done with their training, so your experience heavily outweighs theirs. You clap the flat edges of his sword between the palms of your hands, spinning and redirecting his attack to the side so that he not only misses, but drives his sword into the wall behind you, unable to stop his momentum.
"So," you crack your neck, "who's next?"
The ninja weigh their options, quickly able to tell their skill levels don't match yours. "Split up, split up!" The blue one screeches, running towards the elevator. The black one heads for the chain, and the red and white ones head for the stairs.
You laugh loudly and tauntingly. "Run, ninja, for I love a good chase!" You can hear the blue one scream again and frantically slap his hand across the buttons on the elevator.
Turning towards the anchor chain, you leap towards it, hauling yourself up the links at an insane rate. You didn't practice scaling mountains for nothing. Unfortunately, it seemed he was also a climber of some sorts, always just out of your reach. You growl ferally, "I won't let you get to him!" Reaching out with your hand in a claw shape, you manage to hook it around his foot and yank as hard as you can. He looked strong based on his size, but you guessed he hadn't been training long enough to gain bulk. This left you strong enough to pull him off the chain and drop him to the floor. He recovers quickly and instead lands on another level of the school.
"What are you doing?!" You can hear Lloyd cry out in confusion. "I thought you were my friend!"
Of course, you left him with Pythor. What was that serpent doing? Your instincts kicked in and you ignored the other ninja, jumping up the chain like a wild cat in a tree, landing on the roof. "(Y/N)!" Lloyd cries.
Pythor waves at you, grinning cheekily, "you were right, my dear. Never trust a snake." He shows off the map he nabbed, before turning invisible.
"I don't need to see you to fight you." You hissed, swiping out in a large circle with your leg. Your foot bumps into invisible Pythor, and you react quickly to it by punching at him. "What the-?" You miss completely, but don't give up, instead just lashing out wildly. You weren't trained to fight this way. Sure, you've been trained to fight an enemy you couldn't see, but that was only when they were hiding in fog. You locate the patterns and swirling of the fog and attack accordingly. However, you couldn't exactly fight something that was completely invisible.
"We'll meet again." His voice is right beside you, but when you twirl around to deck him in the face, you can't hit anything.
"Slippery bastard." You grunt, fuming at your loss. "Sorry, Lloyd." You frown, slinging an arm around him and holding him close.
He sighs sadly. "It's not your fault. Pythor was right, I shouldn't have trusted a snake, any of them."
The ninja arrive behind you. "Give it up, Lloyd!"
You get into a fighting stance again, only to have Lloyd put a hand on your arm, "let's just do what they want."
He seems upset about the loss; normally he would just order the snakes around, or have you be his last minute escape plan. Did losing over and over finally cause him to give up? "Are you sure?" He nods, and you nod in response, dropping your intimidating battle pose.
The ninja seem bewildered. "He's in charge of you?!"
You don't respond to them. The blue one goes to pick up Lloyd, but you react quickly and snap up his wrist in your grasp, not even turning to face him. "Don't."
"Got it, got it, please let go, ow ow ow-" he complains.
Some old guy flies down on a boat with a girl beside him. "Lloyd Montgomery Garmadon! You come here right now." He sounds angry, and you recall Lloyd calling the old man his uncle. Lloyd reached out for your hand, and you held his, walking him to his uncle. "And who is this?"
"(Y/N)." Lloyd responds shortly. "They took care of me. I don't want to leave without them." His uncle gives you a once-over, then nods, letting you board the ship as well.
"So, what kind of punishments are we going to give the brat?" the black one asks. The other ninja nod in anticipation.
"I could paralyze every single one of you if Lloyd asks." And you left it at that, following the old man onto the flying ship.
"Dude, they're scary. Do we have to take them with us?"
"I believe it is an 'all or nothing' type of deal." The white one whispers with the red one.
You're given your own room with Lloyd on the other side of the ship, farther away from the ninja because his uncle didn't want the five of you to start anything with each other. He, like Pythor, insists on having you call him by his first name, but you refuse to do such a thing for a man you don't respect. So, naturally, when Lloyd falls asleep, Wu takes you out for a talk on the deck.
"What do you want, old man?" You cross your arms and tap your foot impatiently.
He smiles gently, "actually, I have a favor to ask of you." He sits down, and pours himself a cup of tea after offering you one, to which you turned down. "I know where you come from. Your village creates the strongest warriors I've ever fought."
You tilt your head, suddenly interested, "you've fought against our village before?"
"A long time ago, since before you, or even your great-grandparents, were born. Your village has been there for centuries, and I've been alive to see every war your people have fought in. I've seen your village be born of people from all over Ninjago, trading their strongest fighting and healing techniques to make them a powerful ally. I myself have both fought with and against your village, and no matter which side I'm on, I've always been impressed." He sips at his tea.
He...was there from the beginning? Why did he tell you all of this? "So? Spit it out, or I'm leaving."
His eyes darken as he puts his tea down. "I'm sorry, (Y/N). The Serpentine lost to your village in the last war they were in, so in order to avoid having to fight you again..."
You can feel your throat tightening as you tried to hold back tears. "I...I don't understand. My village wouldn't just...let that happen. They'd kill every last Serpentine if a single one of them even looked at us wrong." You grabbed Wu by the clothing around his shoulders and harshly shook him, "that's not possible! Tell me that's not true!"
he shook his head, "they circled the forest and burned it, trapping everyone inside it."
"THAT'S NOT TRUE!! Maya would've gotten rid of the fire and saved us, if that's what they did!" You screamed. "Sure, she left with that stupid fire guy, but when her village depended on it, she would come back!"
"She's not coming back. Neither her nor Ray have been seen in Ninjago for years. They're dead by now, with only Kai and Nya left of them."
"Kai and Nya...the red twins?" Wu nodded to your words. You slumped over in your sitting position, staring at the floor as you tried to process everything that happened. This was your fault, you were the one to unleash the Serpentine. The very same ones who... "My...my village? My family?"
"They hid in the river until the flames died out, then fled before the Serpentine could locate any of them. Every single one of them is safe, just scattered across Ninjago. Some are trying to regroup, others are still lost."
"So - we have to find them all! I have to get revenge on those stupid Serpentine!" You were in hysterics, still sobbing over what had happened. You thought you had steeled yourself; not needing to cry over anything ever again, but...this was an exception. This was a great loss.
Wu shook his head, "you can't do it alone. That is why I asked you here." It was true that you could take on a maximum of 10 people at once, but he was talking about not only 1, but 4 entire armies of Serpentine. He was right, you would need help. But surely he wouldn't recruit the ninja to do this job? They couldn't even fight you off with their weapons! You had none! "I would like to help you regroup your people, but in exchange, you would have to train my students in any way you can."
You scoffed, "don't you know how I was trained? I spent my entire life dedicated to training to become someone worthy of being a warrior, and even after leaving, I didn't stop training. I push myself to the limits every morning, waking up as early as I can to get an entire routine through before wandering Ninjago. Your 'students' are too soft and squishy to do any of the things I can do."
Wu smiles, "and that's why I would like you to train them."
You blinked a couple times, suddenly feeling tired. You didn't like his stupid ninja team one bit, and now you were tasked with training them? But...your village was worth so much more than losing your dignity to training these...squishy and weak ninja. Every single person in that village was as much family as you were their child. Everyone shared aunts and grandfathers and sisters and parents and children. Soon, you would become a parent, even if you bore no children of your own, but only if you found them all again. "Anything for family."
Nodding, Wu stands up and leads you to your room again. "You may train them as you like, even if it means waking them up as early as the sunrise."
The loss of your home was still too much to take in. You would need some time to heal and grieve first. "...thanks."
You opened the door to your room, Lloyd snoring soundly inside. Before Wu left, you turned to face him. "...Wu?" He didn't respond, but he stopped to listen. "Did even a single thing make it in the fire?"
He thinks for a while. "I believe something did." He nods, looking past you to his nephew. "A single Wisteria tree, out by the river."

for the characters: thoughts on harumi from ninjago ive seen some of your takes and i wanna hear more👀
I HAVE THINGS TO SAY!!!!
First impression
uh-oh a love interest? Nahh bro.. wait no they're kinda cute together
Impression now
Nevermind! She's a nutjob! but wow girlboss
Favorite moment
Bro the scene when he's trying to help this family escape the collapsing building and you can see how regretful she is because she's finally understands that her actions caused this awful catastrophe in ninjago, and realizes that every bad thing she's done in the name of exacting revenge on the ninja only leads to her directly perpetuating the cycle of pain and tragedy that she experienced herself at the hands of an accident caused by the ninja. And the fact that at the end of this realization, she just has a brief eye-contact conversation with Lloyd who's like. 10 rooftops away and that entire moment is just,,,,, UGHH LEGO NINJAGO YOU DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT-
Idea for a story
Turns out! Rumi SURVIVED the building collapse and she went into hiding. One day Lloyd finds out and he like, confronts her and stuff, and he's still feeling all emotionally conflicted about her and wants to give her another chance and the whole thing is about Harumi not-necessarily being redeemed but like, putting her trauma behind her and becoming a marginally better person, all at the same time she's making some sembalance with peace with Lloyd.
Potentially in the form of a duo quest without the other ninja?
Unpopular opinion
I like her a lot a lot a lot, but like, she's just. Objectively a terrible person. But I think that she's also the MOST sympathetic villain Ninjago has offered us, has more grounds for becoming a better human being, and would have a IMO veryyyyy interesting redemption arc (compared to like... Morro. don't @ me)
and on top of that her "evil design" bro.... impeccable
Favorite relationship
Her and Lloyd obviously. Not romantically, but they're such interesting foils for each other! She's a lot like,, if Lloyd didn't get his found family support system and stayed bitter and spiteful about all his loss and trauma, he could have ended up a lot like her. Also their parallels are just... poetic
Favorite headcanon
Y'know how Harumi's hair changed in a span of like, inbetween episodes? Well I like to imagine she cut herself straightbangs literally right before "Dread on Arrival" just to make her Quiet One look that much edgier.

We’re Not Really Strangers
Jay’s not really sure why Cole has always been so touchy with him, but he decides to welcome the physical contact- to an extent. And so he resigns himself to a great and terrible boundary of friendly intimacy with his best friend; more than strangers but never more than friends, perhaps destined for something greater.
In which Jay is one-hundred percent, entirely straight.
a/n: 4302 words, tw for internalized homophobia
When Jay first met Cole, he first noticed his arms. His really nice, lean, smooth arms. They were unusually buff for a thirteen-year-old, and reflected years of mountain climbing and muscle building. The very next thing he thought was what? because that was a weird thing to notice in a guy.
In his reckless adolescence, the little lightning ninja chalked this first and silent observation up to the fact that pre-teens shouldn’t be so buff and that it was only natural for him to notice Cole’s inherent, smoulder-y attractiveness.
Because Jay liked girls. He liked their skin, their long hair, and…
It doesn’t matter. Jay liked girls, exclusively.
Five years later Jay can’t imagine a life without Cole. He’s his partner in fighting, combat, and training, but also in just day-to-day life. Their conversations range from fighting about which flavor of ramen is best to more serious topics such as relationships...with family.
Jay remembered when Cole had first opened up to him about losing his mother and his rocky relationship with his father. He had looked down, until finally, Jay scooted just a little bit closer to him. His side pressed into Cole’s, and the earth ninja crumbled, allowing himself to be emotional and sincere. And when it was all over, Cole put his hands on Jay’s and thanked him; Jay ignored the warmth in his chest, attributing it to the vulnerability of the conversation and the delicacy of the talk.
But Cole’s physical presence persisted. It started during gaming nights, when the two were so close they were practically on top of one another, their thighs touching and oh god Cole’s bicep flexing against Jay’s arm as he gripped the game controller tighter.
Jay decided he didn’t mind the contact and allowed Cole to continue being close.
During training, Cole would not miss any opportunity to help Jay stand from the ground, extending hand to help him up and gently pulling the blue ninja to his feet. During physical combat training, Cole would win- and rather it was because Jay liked when Cole would swiftly pin him down to the ground or simply because the earth ninja was a better fighter than he, Jay wasn’t sure.
As they were sitting for dinner, Cole’s hand would brush against Jay’s. It was fleeting and probably an accident.
This was the problem: Jay found himself thinking about Cole’s muscles much more than he thought about kissing nameless girls. But he maintained that it was only because Cole was his best friend and naturally a pretty handsy guy- not to mention he does have stellar muscles, anyway, so it was only natural that they were noticeable to Jay.
But this resolve crumbled one hot summer day during training. They were both seventeen.
“You all have such cool places to keep your weapons,” Jay complained. Kai, Zane, Cole, Jay, and Lloyd were all out in the monastery’s courtyard, taking a small break from the morning’s rigorous training.
“Do we?” Zane asked, quirking an eyebrow.
“Yes,” Jay said, dragging the “s” sound. “I just have to carry my nunchucks.”
Kai suggested he get a belt that would hold them, and Jay liked that idea, until the belt finally came.
Kai had made it for him. Jay was grateful- he really was- but this was by god the ugliest thing he had ever laid eyes on. Not to mention it weighed about as much as he did, and it hardly even was able to hold his nunchucks.
But as to not disappoint the fire ninja, he tried to put it on. Tried. Unfortunately- or perhaps fortunately, Jay’s not sure- Kai was also not an expert in design and practical effectiveness.
“Kai, this buckles in the back,” Jay said. “I can’t get it on.” Internally, Jay breathed a sigh of relief. At least he for sure didn’t have to put the belt on now.
But when Cole offered to help him put the belt on, he quickly accepted.
So Cole took the belt and knelt down beside the blue ninja, buckling the buckle (in the back!) with gentleness and care. All throughout practice, Jay found himself annoyed by the cumbersome feeling of the belt, even if he did have a place to store his nunchucks. But, the next day, when Cole offered to help him put the belt on again, Jay said yes before his mind could catch up.
Jay was uncomfortably comfortable with it all. When he should be trying to focus on training, all he can think about was Cole’s warm and calloused hands gently touching his hips, steadying them to buckle his stupid little nunchuck belt.
The third night after the belt incident, the lightning ninja was in his room, mentally reprimanding himself for stewing over Cole’s likely innocent acts of kindness- not because he wasn’t grateful for Cole’s help and generosity, he really was, but because he should be used to Cole’s touchiness by now.
And that was that. Cole has always been a little bit more physical in his...affections, and had no issue giving gentle touches and reassuring looks to anyone. That was right, Jay supposed. It didn’t matter because the entire situation was just Cole being the nice guy that he was. If it had been Zane with a belt fiasco, the earth ninja wouldn’t have hesitated to help him clasp the buckle either. Jay wasn’t even sure why he was so worked up about the whole thing anyways.
He dismissed the thought. Plus, no matter how physical Cole was, it didn’t matter, because Jay liked girls anyways. He really liked Nya, who, despite being the only girl he had ever had some sort of connection with beside his mother, seemed to like him too.
So he drifted off to sleep, dreaming about kissing her... but everytime he closed his eyes and conjured up this mental picture, she didn’t have a face.
---
A week later, after dinner, Jay and Cole were alone playing some game when the black ninja set his controller down and assumed an aura of stoic-ness about him.
“What’s up?” Jay asked.
“I’m bisexual,” Cole responded.
Jay’s mouth hung wide for a moment, before he mustered a smile and a “cool!” and cracking some stupid joke like leave it to you to overachieve. But he had also noticed the strength and vulnerability of Cole’s tone. When he came out then, he might have been scared, but he wasn’t afraid. Jay even remembered finding it admirable how relaxed Cole remained.
And then the moment was over, ending with Cole muttering “just wanted to let you know.” Jay didn’t mind, and they resumed gaming.
Minutes later, the door opened to reveal Kai, Lloyd, Zane, and Nya.
“C’mon, lovebirds, Wu wants us to try out some new training technique. He said-”
“Lovebirds? That’s a new one, Kai,” Cole interrupted, a light and playful smile on his face. He seemed to be handling Kai’s words with considerably more lightheartedness, either not putting more than two cents to Kai’s words or just not caring regardless.
But Jay cared, a lot. He jumped from the couch and met Kai’s eyes.
“And at least I’m straight!” Jay shouted in a valiant display of defense, perhaps more as a reminder to himself than the others. He felt his cheeks burn and his stomach twist; he regretted saying that almost immediately.
(Jay would spend the next week regretting his reaction, loathing himself for his intonation and word choice. Soon, though, the regret turned into a serious analysis of why he cared so much about Kai’s tease, but this rhetorical question stumped even Jay’s genius. Because- in that moment- Jay wanted whatever it was Kai thought he and Cole were.
The lightning ninja came to the conclusion that he and Cole were naturally going to be drawn to spend time together, because obviously. They were best friends, and Jay couldn’t imagine not spending time alone with the earth ninja. It’s what kept their friendship so strong.)
“Okay, uh,” Kai stammered, glancing to the side, as if he were trying to avoid something. “It was a joke. I was kidding.”
Nya scoffed. “Let’s just go,” she said, turning to leave. Lloyd and Zane followed her path in suit, presumably towards the monastery’s courtyard to do whatever it was Wu wanted them to do. Then Kai inhaled quickly and turned, and Jay made a move to follow, but something stopped him.
He spared a final glance back at Cole, who he expected to still have a kind expression. Instead, he was sitting on the couch, head in his hands, and cheeks twinged ever so slightly pink.
Jay shook his head and left him alone.
They didn’t practice together that night; Jay practiced with Nya and left Cole alone with Lloyd. Afterwards, everyone had gone inside to shower and head to bed, save for he and Nya.
“Hey,” she called. “Thank you for practicing with me tonight.” Jay’s shoulders stiffened.
Surely it was at least 11 at night by now, completely dark outside. He could hardly see Nya standing directly in front of him.
“You’re welcome. I…” he trailed off, trying to think of something he should say. “I really wanted to. And you’re a good partner.”
“Yeah?”
Jay smiled. “Yeah.”
Then their hands brushed. It was silent for a moment, the only sound the small, labored breaths coming from the two ninjas. They were close, and Jay was elated. This was exactly how it was supposed to happen. This is always how it happened in the books he read or the shows he watched.
Then Nya smiled, and Jay smiled, and then he kissed her.
He supposed it was nice. Even though he couldn’t really see her, he liked kissing Nya. He had thought about it for quite some time. They pulled apart, and Jay looked at her once more, as if he had just seen her in this light for the very first time.
“Thanks again, Jay,” she whispered. The water ninja turned to head inside, but he stopped her, catching her hand.
“Nya,” he said, and it sounded more like a question than a statement. “I like you. I really like you.”
“But you wish I was Cole?”
Jay felt his heart drop and face flush, before he was spitting defenses left and right. That was not what he was expecting after he kissed the girl of his dreams.
Nya didn’t know what he felt. How could she? But as Jay almost expected himself to be angry with her, he wasn’t. His heart began to rapidly beat, and suddenly he wanted to leave this conversation so badly he probably would have faced a djinn again if it meant he could wish this all away.
“Don’t play dumb, Jay,” she laughed. Her smile was kind. “You two hold hands all the time. I’ve seen the way you look at him. You just think you like me.” She took his hand, despite the fact that it was shaky and sweaty from anxiety.
“Listen to me, Jay. Take a deep breath.”
The lightning ninja almost protested, but remained silent, deciding anything he said might just dig himself deeper. “I think you’re great,” Nya began. “But…” she looked off in the distance, probably at the mountains far away. “Trust me. Think about it, and you can talk to me later if you want. Truth is, Jay, I love you, and care for you. And I’m observant.” She let go of his hand, gave his shoulder a squeeze, and went inside the monastery, leaving him alone.
He had one single, fleeting, yet distinct thought as he watched her turn away: Nya’s never been wrong before.
---
Somewhere between denial and anger and bargaining and depression there was Jay. Cole- or, at least, the thought of him- started to keep him up at night, in a real bad way, because every time he closed his eyes he saw him. It was like a rhythm known only to him, the way Jay would push the earth ninja as far away as possible from him during the day but at night wish he was closer than ever.
He was repelling Cole, ever since that night, that terrible, terrible night, when Cole trusted him and when Nya stepped out of her place. He didn’t want to, though. Still, Jay took no initiative to restore their intimacy they once had, even though his heart ached for it.
Of course, though, nothing gold can stay; as the weekly movie night rolled around, he found himself sitting next to the black ninja on the couch, maybe just a little too close for comfort.
But the chosen movie is boring. He was looking at the screen, yes, but his mind was somewhere else- maybe on Cole, whose head was nearly resting on his shoulder, asleep soundly and taking in small, shallow breaths; maybe it was on Nya, who was watching the movie, seemingly very interested in whatever the plot was but probably not really; or Kai, Lloyd, Zane, and Pixal, the latter of which were holding hands and smiling, and Kai and Lloyd fixated on the movie.
See, that was the thing about relationships Jay never really understood. How did Zane know he liked Pixal? Zane was a robot. How did he ever fall for her? Was it human nature, or lack thereof? Or something more innate?
“I believe the term for it is ‘pansexuality,’’' Zane had once said, a couple months ago. “I love Pixal because of who they are. I do not think it is in my coding to see...” he paused, thinking. “...gender. I simply love her regardless, and they love me. I firmly believe that’s what matters most.”
Jay had liked that. Maybe he could be comfortable with that, but his eyes drooped from fatigue before he could stew over it any more.
When he finally awoke, he and Cole had shifted considerably. Everyone else was gone- the movie probably long over- but Cole was nearly on top of him, curled into his side, his face relaxed and soft from sleep. His hair is brushed over onto his face in soft waves, his eyelashes fluttering, mouth slightly open.
Surely Jay must be half-asleep, because he feels the urge to continue dozing like that, his arms wrapped around Cole and at ease in his comfortable presence. But there’s something else, too: a warning. His mind was screaming at him, telling him that this was too close, that friends don’t touch like this. Sure, he and Cole had always displayed their friendship in more physically intimate ways, but this was too far…
He pried himself out of Cole’s arms, stumbling off the couch.
“Jay…?”
Cole had sat up from his position, eyes weary and dreamy. Jay just smiled, ignoring the flushing panic and embarrassment- oh, god- burning bright. “It’s late,” he said. “Go to your room and sleep.”
He did. And Jay somehow managed to make it back to his room, too, despite nearly falling over into Cole’s arms multiple times from the sheer self-humiliation of it all.
---
It went like this: Jay spent half of the next day lying to himself, that no, he did not want to be in a relationship with his best friend who happens to be a guy, and then the later half realizing that he had been lying to himself for much, much longer than a day.
He and Cole weren’t just friends. They weren’t acquaintances, but for some reason, it felt like they were strangers all over again. If they were taken back to the very first day they met- brand new faces, a fresh start- would things have gone differently now that Jay...knew?
He didn’t want to really be lovesick strangers. He wanted something forever. The most terrifying part- besides maybe Nya being right- was that his entire being was yearning for a relationship with Cole.
His mind was racing all through dinner that night, meaning he had nothing to say. It had been an easy day, no missions, just lazing around, and Jay hated it, because he needed something to preoccupy himself with. Nya spared him a few loving glances with a glint of mischievousness in her eye, but otherwise, no one seemed to notice his unusual silence.
After dinner, Jay busied himself; he didn’t think a single thing when he saw Nya tell Cole something, and then when Cole precariously disappeared out of the monastery, and after dinner was over, he volunteered to clean the kitchen. Zane had thanked him, and Jay was alone to wipe down the counters and do the dishes.
Methodical and logical- cleaning was a matter of the brain, not the heart, and thank the FSM for it. The blue ninja’s heart was growing tired. He cleaned until the kitchen was spotless, then retreated to his bedroom.
It was too cramped. Everywhere reminded him of Cole, of Nya; the picture on his nightstand, the one on his desk, where he could see his hand wrapped loosely around Cole’s pinky finger. He needed out, and he needed out fast, and he just needed a place to collect his thoughts and get some fresh air.
It was at least midnight by now, but Nya was in the living room, so he told her where he was going to make sure no one worried (a habit formed due to the unnaturally large number of times one of them has been kidnapped, or worse.)
“I’m going for a walk,” he mentioned in passing.
“Really?” she didn’t sound surprised. “It’s late.”
Jay fidgeted. “Yeah, I’m sure. Plus it’s a nice night out. I’ll be fine.”
“Okay.”
He walked out of the monastery and into the courtyard, relishing in the initial breeze that hit him. He would walk down the mountain and back up and be fine.
But a walk turned into a jog, and soon into a sprint. He wondered briefly why he thought he could run away from this realization, leaving it all behind in his bedroom at the monastery. And at least, for a few moments, it succeeded; the burning sensation in his chest and side stitches gnawing at his muscles made him completely forget about the whole situation. But soon, he asked himself why he was running down the monastery’s mountain, and the whole thing came back to Jay, and he audibly groaned.
He wished things could return to normal. He wished he could be normal. But for now, he was only concerned about placing one leg in front of the other as fast as he could despite the strong protest of his lungs.
He quickly tired out, doubling over to place his hands on his knees as soon as he reached the bottom of the mountain. The warm midsummer night breeze offered little reprieve from neither his anxiety nor his feelings for Cole.
“Jay?”
Speak of the devil.
It must have been an odd sight, Jay thought, to see him there, just after 12 at night, heaving and sweating to no end.
Jay sucked in a breath. “What are you doing here?”
“What am I doing here…” Cole trailed off, before glaring at Jay. “What are you doing here?”
Jay couldn’t meet his eyes. His heart was beating out of his chest, and no, it wasn’t from his impromptu run down a mountain. The FSM must have been playing some sick joke on him, because not only was he facing a life-altering realization tonight, now he had to face said person who had been the catalyst for this life-altering realization.
What the fuck.
Cole’s face shifted from that of possibly some unreadable shock to concern. “I was watching the stars, but I take it that was not what you were doing,” he sighed, taking one step closer to him. “Jay, what are you doing here,” he repeated slowly.
The prospect of explaining the entire thing to Cole seemed silly. Maybe because Cole should already know, or maybe because he had been in denial for nearly five years of his feelings and oh god the anticipation and anxiety were overwhelming. And so Jay opened his mouth to say something to Cole that might satisfy his queries, but all that came out was a choked sob.
The tears began and didn’t stop, not when Cole reached out a strong and steady arm and whispered reassurances like “hey, it’s okay,” and “shh, there.” The tears didn’t stop when Cole said “let’s get you inside,” and swooped Jay up in his arms and carried him all the way up the monastery’s steps up the mountain.
Jay cried harder at the prospect that this might be the last time he’s ever in Cole’s arms like this, bridal style.
And finally, Cole made it inside, shirt stained from tears that weren’t his and dotted with sweat from Jay’s temple. He took Jay to his bedroom and laid him down on his bed, before covering him up and sitting on the foot of his bed, as far away from arm’s reach as possible.
“Do you want to talk about it?” He asked.
Jay sniffed pathetically, sitting up from where the earth ninja had tucked him in.
This time, Jay instigated the closeness.
He slid his hand towards Cole, close but not touching. The other ninja held out his arms, and for the first time in a week, Jay quickly consented to falling into his embrace. It was a warm hug, with Cole’s strong, sturdy arms around Jay’s shaking frame.
Jay spoke, voice just above a whisper. “I think I might be gay. Or something. I dunno. Men.” Cole hugged him tighter, and the embrace grew more sincere.
Cole was about to say something, but Jay shushed him, as he had become aware enough to realize that a.) this might be far too intimate and b.) he just made Cole carry him, crying, all the way from the base of the mountain to the top.
“I’m sorry,” he said, and he was overcome with some relief that had been just out of grasp for the last five years. He pulled away from Cole and wiped his eyes. “I’m not sure why I’m crying.”
“That’s okay,” Cole smiled. “I don’t mind.”
“No, I’m serious,” Jay said. The pair remained quiet, eyes downcast, some unspoken feelings of tension hanging in the air. “ I came to terms with my sexuality and then I- I just ran all the way down the monastery mountain like a lunatic and I probably really smelly and gross and you still hugged me and carried me. I’m sorry.”
Cole gave a soft smile and a small, gentle laugh that made Jay’s stomach flip, but he could almost sense the upcoming conversation:
Hey, Jay, how’d you realize you might be queer?
Oh, nothing, besides the fact that I often pictured your face on Nya’s when I kissed her (once) and that you sitting right here in front of me makes it pretty easy!
Jay nearly squeaked- yeah, no thanks. He’d rather not do that tonight. Instead, he laid back down on Cole’s bed.
“We don’t have to ever talk about it, if you don’t want to. But I do want you to know that this won’t change anything between us, okay? Like- I won’t stop being your friend…”
Jay felt a twinge of guilt, so he closed his eyes, perhaps pretending to be overcome with sleepiness.
“...and I’ll still love and support you unconditionally. As a partner and friend. Nothing will change because you’re gay, I promise.”
The lightning ninja isn’t sure what spunk possessed him in that moment, but when he found himself saying “what if I want things to change?” before his mind could think clearly, he nearly punched himself square in the jaw for his sheer audacity.
Cole blinked from the foot of the bed. “What?”
Jay composed himself, staring at the ceiling, and decided it was now or never to confess his feelings. “What I guess I mean is that I’d be okay with a change. Maybe not for the worst. Because I like you, Cole. Like- like like you. And you’ve always been touchy with me, and now I want those touches and hand holdings and long hugs to mean something.”
At first he was afraid he had upset Cole, because the black ninja didn’t say anything for what seemed like an eternity. But then, in a swift and fluid movement, he was lying in his bed beside Jay and spooning him.
“This means something,” he said. “And really, for me at least, it always has.”
Jay cuddled into Cole. This was nice. And now that he was comfortable, it was even better. No more suppressed feelings, no more denial. He could admire Cole for who he truly was- yes, a good training partner, with nice wavy black hair and dark skin that looks like amber in the afternoon light and biceps and abs that could rival a god, but also as a crush. A support. A partner...not only for training.
Jay was nearly asleep in Cole’s arms when he whispered, “can I kiss you?”
The earth ninja looked at Jay. “I’ve been waiting for you to since the day I met you,” he said, and their lips met with enthusiastic and warm vitality. Cole’s lips were soft, a stark contrast to his muscular body, and Jay wondered why he didn’t do this sooner.
“By the way,” Jay whispered, “I always hated the feeling of the nunchuck belt. I just let you put it on me because I liked the way your hands felt around my waist.”
“And you just now realized you’re gay?”
---
Nya peeked into the room and, admittedly, felt a little relieved when she saw Jay in Cole’s arms, both sound asleep.
She was so glad she had told Cole to go stargazing that night.

ninjago for the series asks?
favorite character
cole cole cole cole cole cole cole did i mention cole ninjago ??? he is Literally one of my favorite fictional characters ever y'all. like, he's been my favorite since s1 ep6 the snake king aired. the love in my heart for cole is immense. i adore him. he means so much to me. one of the biggest comfort characters.
second favorite character
kai ! kai becoming my second favorite is actually a recent development, but God i love him. he's so funny and so loyal and he's just trying his best... usually! kai holds a very special place in my heart <3 also need to give darreth an honorable mention just cause i think he deserves it
least favorite character
fanon jay what ahem i didn't say anything about how i hate the way the ninjago fandom babies and treats jay and that they have contorted and twisted his entire personality what hahaha... ha. no, um. probably misako oops. love you kathleen barr !!! miskao is just. kind of a terrible mom ??? the skull sorcerer was also Very Mean to cole and that is Not Allowed. so also him.
the character i’m most like
hmmm... on some levels, cole. but, really, i think jay. no. not fanon jay. the Actual jay walker in canon. but i am cole where... as jay is an extrovert, cole is an introvert. where jay was humor to cope, cole throws himself into whatever he possibly can to distract himself. so, that's kind of my two major things
favorite pairing
i hate this question. i Literally changes all the time. sometimes it's glacier because they and also my favorite ninjago fanfic ever (morning sun everyone please read it) is a glacier fic. then sometimes it's lava because DUH. it used to be bruise no questions asked, but again, fanon has ruined that for me :) i still Like the ship, but i like My interpretation of the ship. and sometimes i really am a sucker for jaya. i mean, the last resort is one of my favorite episodes and the jaya in it is So Good! and then sometimes i'm like yeah... pixane... they... lloyd x therapy is a great one too tbh
least favorite pairing
gREENFLAME !!! i mean, lloyd x any of the ninja in general. he is aroace and he needs to heal first. but greenflame is my ultimate least favorite because of the greenflame shipping war on ffn when i was in middle school and because kai and nya are the siblings lloyd never had. let them be siblings. but then also conya cause cole is gay and i hated the love triangle. then also cole x cake because cole had an eating disorder in canon that everyone makes fun of all the time and in this essay i will--
favorite moment
dad, i didn't mean for you to hear that, but i'm glad i did. there's something i've been wanting to tell you. all these years, i haven't been training to be a singer or a dancer. i found something new that i'm really good at! dad... i'm a ninja. and the truth is, if we don't steal that fangblade... i mean, blade cup, there's other people that will. bad people. serpentine. and we need it to save the world. and i know how ridiculous this sounds, but i'm proud of who i am and i want you to be proud too.
what? what is it? where's cole? where's cole? somebody say something! where's cole? / he-h-he's gone. / what'd you mean, gone? / lloyd... he fell... into the cloud. / i-i'm so sorry. / he's... he's really... gone? / *garmadon head tilt* / it was my fault! i pulled the thrust lever the wrong way and--*throws head in hands* / it wasn't your fault, it was an accident. / it could've happened to anyone. / alright, let's get going. / do you mind??? / yes i do. we are wasting valuable time! all that matters now is this! / the golden armour! / what about the realm crystal? / it didn't work. but this will, they fear it. / cole was our friend, he was more than a friend, he was family! but you don't understand that, do you? what's the point! you're never gonna get it! because you don't care about anyone but yourself! / every moment you delay risks our survival-- / there's more to life than surviving! gah! / how do you reason with that? you, nindroid. if Any of you are capable of logical thought, it is you. tell them. / i am happy to say, you are mistaken. at this moment, even i am incapable of logical thought
it was her... / what? / it... wasn't the blades. / i told you that. / it was her... the power inside my mother... it was the spinjitzu burst! / alas, you're not half the warrior your mother was. / no, but i am her son. and i made her a promise to stand up to tyrants like you. always! / what are you doing? what is this?
TWINS LOOK ALIKE!
rating out of 10
hmmm imma say nine because: cole only had one season, the love triangle, s7 as a whole (except for twins look alike), the lack of recognition and attention they gave cole.
send me a series and i'll tell you my...

But to change the topic from all the Lloyd ship thingy that’s going on…
F U T U R E S H I P P I N G
Oh yes! I might be rewriting some headcanons but I love them so much and I just gotta write out how it’d be in my AU when I come around to it.
Once more, we begin with Acronix crushing on the inventor when he was kidnapped. It didn’t confuse him too much since he’s been with some guys before but none of them were really in for the romance. The only thing that conflicted his feelings was needing to go through with the plan with his brother and maybe he just buried it far beneath.
Of course he’s helping plan out Cyrus’s escape and they end up bonding over it. Cyrus is on his old spider mech chair and Acronix practically jams the auto pilot button while distracting the inventor with a short kiss. It’s a sad goodbye, but the plan still goes on which means Nix is lost in time for a while.
They reunite by pure accident and begin bonding again. Krux is happy that his brother found some joy outside of tech but he didn’t expect Cyrus to be Nix’s boyfriend. He confronts him about it but Acronix just shoots back with “At least I caught feelings talking with someone. You caught yours in the middle of getting fucked by an actual demigod. So, don’t you come at me about who I want and like when you don’t even know what you want anymore. Now excuse me, I’m going to meet up with him and hopefully he’ll help us find the Ninja to take little Wu back.”
Anyways now that’s out the way, I just want to think about the development they have together. It’s slow, sweet and fluffy. Cyrus is a literal boss of his own company and Acronix is the first to test any new tech products. He gives reliable advice to Cyrus on what to advance and what’s unnecessary. He’s just plain honest with him and Cyrus appreciates it.
Sin down below because I have no filter and I can’t be stopped:
And don’t get me started on the saucy sin with these two. Ah!
The first time was honestly nerve wrecking, at least for Acronix. He’s so used to one night stands just getting their fill and leaving, but Cyrus?.. He’s so sweet and he’s gentle. It’s just soft kisses all over and his hands roaming. Basically Nix actually gets worshipped and he’s so overwhelmed by it.
Later on, Cyrus sees that Nix is more energetic about the bedroom and basically he takes notes. Name what he’s noted and he’s got it. Positions? Kinks? How long he can last? The fact that maybe his restlessness was connected to his elemental powers? Favorite toys? Past flings? He’s got it all, even makes sure to avoid what he doesn’t like or makes them both uncomfortable.
When Cyrus can’t keep up some nights or needs to focus on work? Don’t get him wrong he loves Acronix but unfortunately he can’t meet some standards and he’s okay with it. He’s allowed Acronix to be more open with partners as long as they both were comfortable with it, which sometimes leads to Cyrus eventually joining in.
One partner was in fact Garmadon. Garm is a perfect example of a fling. He has experience, has the energy, and no strings attached. Yes his wife knows of his habits and they had a talk about it. How do you think he got to the city? She drove him there and they met up with Acronix and Cyrus. That’s probably when Cyrus brought up the idea of open partners. Acronix is embarrassed by Cyrus bringing it up but admits he likes the idea.
“We’re not looking for any adultery. It’s just I can’t keep up with him and I don’t have much to offer him in bed at the moment so.. I was thinking maybe on some occasion you can.. visit and help me tire him out?” “Let me talk to my wife about it.” “I don’t wish to put strain on your marriage.” “Oh don’t worry about it. He’s been alive longer than I have so it’s almost unfair to tie him down.” “Yeah but I need someone to help make decisions with me.” “I know you do.. Anyways I don’t mind. Besides it’s not like I’m looking for another kid anytime soon. I’m happy with Lloyd for now.” “So.. when’s the first visit?”
Did he take notes on Garm during the visit? Yes. Yes he did. Mind you, sometimes, Garm was in full monster form. Long forked tongue? Yes. Grabby claws? Yes! Horns perfect for grabbing? Yes. And if he has his Anacondrai tail? Then you bet Cyrus saw how excited Acronix was when he saw the double flesh staves. Cyrus mostly found his different forms fascinating. If Garm was still in Anacondrai form, I realize that there’s one for each of them and Acronix ends up dragging Cyrus in anyways.
And yes, Cyrus does put the notes to use and perhaps on the side, he makes some personal projects. They’re surprises for Acronix later and boy he’s happy when he sees Nix absolutely loving the toys.
And yes there is a safe word for when it gets too uncomfortable or overwhelming. It’s been used a few times but for good reasons.
Anyways, with the two of them, it’s an amazing time until Acronix sub-drops. Basically, his body by then throws away the high and the adrenaline which causes him to suddenly feel vulnerable to many negative emotions. Cyrus is scared, but he basically sticks with him and feels terrible for what Acronix is going through. (Honestly subdropping needs to be brought to light more often.) He provides some aftercare and gentle words.
The aftercare itself? Oh it’s absolutely mandatory. The process of it is needed, cause the aftermath actually can lead to injuries; mental and physical. Its a red flag if anyone says otherwise. Thankfully neither possess that red flag so that’s good. It’s so sweet and gentle. Cyrus makes sure Acronix is okay and they’re just laying there and cuddling for the rest of the night. And yes, when it comes down to it, it can go the other way around for Cyrus.
I really don’t understand why the aftercare isn’t talked about in relationships because it should be about love and not gratification. And the pairing just offer that kind of love to one another.
Oh and before I forget, yes. Acronix is little spoon and if you want sin added in, then he likes it when he can just slip Cy in and proceeds to grind on him... It’s a slow and gentle and they both enjoy the change of pace.
