character-focused sci-fi set in an area divided in two, the rich protected city on one side and everyone else in the post-apocalyptic desert

follows a woman who works under the Emperor in Ashtown, keeping the peace

when mangled bodies start showing up with seemingly no murderer, she’s tasked with finding the cause, and finds out that it’s the result of corruption spanning both cities and multiple worlds

explores oppression and messy revolution, police violence and apartheid

#Those Beyond The Wall #aroaessidhe 2024 reads #space between worlds sequel!!! honestly I’m not entirely sure how I feel about it….. In general I enjoyed it and I think it had #a lot of important things to say but also maybe highlighted some weaknesses(?) in both books?#or - I guess just the fact that the sff stuff (which skews a little more magicy here) is kinda small scope relative to its potential #and more there to serve the plot and characters. Which actually maybe is the point. idk- there's def mixed reviews lol #it has a messy unlikable MC (like actually - when half the weak ass reviews are saying the MC is annoying you know they are Actually a #complex character) and some interesting relationship dynamics #it is pretty solidly a sequel - I wouldnt read this without reading TSBW #cara does show up in here& tbh her characterisation felt quite different to me? unsure how I feel about that? but maybe it's the biased POV #also to be clear: polyam MC; not a polyam romance or anything #(there's - kinda a romance? or various feelings floating around and she 'ends up' with someone. feel like i would have liked that to end #more subtley but that's probably my personal taste lol)#man some of the 1 star reviews of this are kinda.....just racist though. can we get some measured critique in here #as I said i am not entirely sure how I feel about it but not quite in a way I can articulate.... idk! i think it's worth the read tho #it's maybe one of those revolutions that feels solved a little too easily in the end - but then also is it solved or is it just that the #narrative has to end at a certain point

People who hate kaidan have obviously never romanced him or just never spoke to him because how, how can you hate him??? He’s a sweet bean, and I feel like he’s the most healthiest for Shepard? Particularly male Shepard.

name explanations and more info below :3

basic stuff

-each agency is a clan, not each unit. 14-15 clans would be silly and then we would have some clans with 5 cats and some with 2.

-starpro -> lightclan. i couldn’t call them “starclan” for obvious reasons. light is somewhat synonymous with star, so i’m going with that.

-cospro -> nightclan. i don’t think the cats in warriors know the word “cosmic”, but cosmic implies cosmos implies night sky, so we’re going with night

-rhyth lin -> rippleclan. ripple is sort of a synonym to rhythm….? this one was hard

-new di -> fortuneclan. this one is a stretch but neither “new” or “dimension” have synonyms that really fit a clan name. fortune is something that relates to multiple characters in new di though

-starclan still sort of exists, but the cats do not believe in them the way they do in warriors. they are more of a nursery tale than anything, and select cats (ex: tatsumi) believe in them, but it is not written into their code. medicine cats can still interpret signs, but they do not necessarily think of them as coming from starclan.

-medicine cat forbidden romance is not a thing here

-intermingling of clans is ok and common

-there’s like. other cats in their clans besides just the enstars cast i assume

cat names/why i chose them

fortuneclan:

knights

-tsukasa -> scarletstar (scarletblossom) . he is the leader of fortuneclan because he is one of the new di reps for the summits. both scarlet and blossom were chosen bc of his last name (scarlet is a red color… kinda similar to cherry…. and blossom for the cherry blossom).

-leo -> lionheart. ok this one is kind of cheating because lionheart is already an existing warrior, but…come on….

-izumi -> silverspring. sora describes his color as silver, and spring is in his first name

-ritsu -> frostmoon. his first name means cold moon according to the wiki so i just rehashed it

-naru -> goldenroar. since she doesn’t like her first name i didn’t want to use “storm”, and her last name can be read as “thunder” but that’s a little too close to storm? so golden for her hair and roar for her last name

switch

-natsume -> sageeye. a sage is similar to a wizard, and eye is in his first name . also the “dovesong” mentioned is wataru :)

-tsumugi -> bluewing. he is a bluebird. warrior cats probably wouldn’t straight up call a cat “bluebird” so i put wing there instead. deputy cause he’s the vp

-sora -> skyspring . sora means sky. spring is in his last name. i could have used “stream” instead to differentiate him from sena but i think spring is cuter

-madara -> tawnystripe . tawny bc it’s like kind of close to calico if you squint. stripe(s) is in his last name

#my art #enstars #ok so maybe we WOULD have 5 clans bc guess what was announced today #a new agency. and a new unit (or fucking 5? idk)#BUTWHATEVER #um i don’t know why i did this it was a joke at first but #then i started getting really into choosing names….#like originally it was just gonna be switch but then i was like hmmm… what if the agency is the clan #i’ve been reading so so much warrior cats i’m about to finish avos and then i’ll be caught back up to where i was #when i started this rereading journey last year #so like i have to apply it to my other interests #i’m proud of the names i chose i think they’re fun #yes leo’s is a cheat but idc #i hope someone else will appreciate this it’s mostly just me doing stuff for fun #i want to do the other units/agencies too but that might be a while cause yall this took #like a week . granted i’m busy rn but god damn picking designs for cats is hard!!#that’s why so many ended up being tabbies i just can’t resist they’re my favorites i’m definitely not biased #but also realistically tabby is a pretty common pattern so it’s fine #my fave design is naru’s btw i wanted to make her really pretty and i think i did ok #ok i’m going to bed bye #also forgot to mention i wanted to keep the names as close to canon warriors as i could so i had to find words similar to things that #the cats in warriors would know #sage is pushing it i don’t think they use sage in medicine . they def don’t know what a fortune is either but i don’t care

amidst all the discourse I’m seeing over Taika these days I just want to remind the internet that like…real life people are not queerbaiting you??

FIRST of all putting a real life person’s sexuality under a microscope is like…please chill. But also if he jokes about enjoying being a gay icon, if he says he thinks everyone is on a gay spectrum…like, first of all, he has never openly labeled his own sexuality (AND HE DOESNT HAVE TO). so it shouldn’t be automatically assumed that he’s a straight person saying this. But second of all, even if he is straight, it’s not like he’s out here appropriating the gay community or something? Like, this isn’t Misha Collins reverse coming out, this is a guy who’s out here actively CREATING and sincerely engaging with gay content

idk, I just feel like people are frothing at the mouth trying to find a reason to dislike him but can we just, like, let him create his high quality gay/POC rep for us and only jump into this vitriol if he does something actually harmful? or maybe save it for the myriad of other public figures who genuinely deserve it??

(and tangent I see people complaining about the ofmd kiss again and just like…you DO realize that not all kisses look classic Hollywood, right? And even still, you DO realize that that was the first EVER loving kiss either of their characters had ever had, right? And in the first season too?? Like, whyyyy does everything have to look Hollywood fake beautiful lol would you really prefer that)

i feel like i’ve been WAITING for the other shoe to drop wrt people’s opinions about watcher for this very reason. not that i think the reaction is completely not understandable but the greater the parasocial relationship, the greater the fallout as soon as public opinion shifts. you don’t have a relationship with these people they’re just content creators, chill

#ready to see all the people coming out of the woodwork to say how they’ve never liked watcher/unsolved/etc #and act like it’s ‘cringe’ now that their fanbase feels ‘betrayed’#it’s great to have a fanbase but parasocial relationships will bite you in the ass every single time #it’s interesting too though because i’ve seen watcher have a LOT of support as they’ve tried to build something separate from buzzfeed #so this is the first time they’re getting real pushback about a decision they’ve made wrt shifting their platform/expanding their brand #so ig we’ll have to see how they react moving forward #but it’s soooo interesting to see how enthusiastically people dump on buzzfeed #AND how many people dump on youtube and how over the years so much of its functionality has been stripped away #how many ads you have to sit through. how much sponsored content there is now. etc #but when they try to do the same thing with youtube that they did with buzzfeed it’s like how dare you not lick their boots #because if you lick their boots and we lick their boots we can watch stuff for free #anyway.#even if you don’t any to say it’s a bad business decision. it’s not like there’s not precedent for it #1) the move away from buzzfeed was successful and 2) what about the dnd shows or whatever #don’t you guys watch those dnd shows that are ‘behind a paywall’#don’t you guys have netflix hulu disney hbo amazon etc ad nauseum that are actually owned by billion dollar corporations #don’t you guys get on your high horses about supporting independent artists all the time #it’s interesting that people will profess to be such big fans!!! and feel like they’re friends!!!!#but how dare they think their work might be worth paying for #idk. idk. it’s entitlement though #sorry for the rant i’m ALSO not trying to blindly defend a bunch of people i don’t know #but you guys are being soooo fucking annoying about it lol #anyway i’m still waiting to see what their response is going to be from here before jumping to conclusions #also to be fair i am biased to be lenient about decisions made by independent filmmakers vs big studios etc #like everybody freaking out about the ai art used in late night with the devil. who cares honestly #‘they should’ve paid a real artist!!’ idk maybe their budget didn’t cover that #i don’t want it to become the industry norm but at the end of the day i would rather see indie shit getting made then only seeing #the big studios (who don’t have equitable practices anyway!!) making shit #but that’s another conversation. just to be transparent about my viewpoint on this kind of thing #maybe controversial but also can’t we have nuance. for once.

who wants to help me with some minor interior design??

this is my (recently created) bedroom. (it used to be my dad’s wood-shop but he moved it to a bigger room.)

all of the windows in my room are on this wall. they currently have blinds, but i want curtains too.

btw - i like the paint colors and so don’t tell me to change them, even if they make it look like i’m living inside a crayola factory. (that’s part of the appeal tbh)

Korvo properly apologizes for how he treated Jesse in the goobler episode

I’d like to write that, she deserves a proper apology. Am I the only one who thought that episode was a bit out of character? I’d never through Korvo and Jesse had a strained relationship before that. I mean Korvo is neurotic and can be an asshole for sure but he’s never struck me as a flat-out bully like he felt in that episode.
