I love humans. I love watching them, talking to them, i love the way they look. They are capable of doing and making such wonderful things. their buildings, their art, their stories, their science! I feel so blessed to get to experience this life among them. Of course they're capable of such horrible things and I often have my moments of being sick of them, I can't spend more than 10 minutes in a supermarket without turning evil™ but idk I feel like it will always be worth it for their love and curiosity.

I think discovering myself and exploring the fact that I am fairykin has really made me rethink and re appreciate the humanity I have. I think humans are beautiful creatures and I think we deserve a bit more kindness and credit for the joys we are capable of creating.

I have fallen down a rabbit hole tonight of re-finding dragonlance (the dnd setting, I think. or at least older dnd?) books that I read ages ago and two of them have draconians (evil wizards take the eggs of the good metallic dragons and cast evil spells on them so instead of one normal baby dragon they instead hatch into many evil smaller and more humanoid draconians for their evil armies) as pretty central characters (The Doom Brigade has a sort of washed up draconian army and Silver Dragon Codex is at least partly about a silver draconian who wants to be a silver dragon (spoilers: he can't because hes only one small part of what would have been the full baby silver dragon and his personal shapeshifting ability (which functions by way of killing people and turning into them if they're smaller than him) will not work on his mom.) and I think its at least a little cold con/MTO-esque? just, that sort of artificial birth, made for purpose, ? ish.

hm. tldr for clarity, I fell down a rabbit hole of finding some fantasy books I read a while ago and in the process was reminded of some lore/setting stuff in them about how draconians are made and for what purpose (normal dragon eggs are altered by evil magics to turn the baby dragon into lots of smaller humanoid dragons aka draconians who are made to be soldiers in the evil army) and they reminded me a lot of idw cold cons/MTOs.

Edit since a lot of people seem confused - your "real" name is the name that you want to be referred to in real life. It doesn't have to be your legal name. So if you're trans and you have a different name to whats on your birth certificate, even if not many people call you by the name, it still counts as your real name.

so im rewatching el camino right and its like,,,idk the breaking bad universe has a penchant for highlighting characters that like,,,arent black and white. no one is purely good or purely bad. people do bad things for a well intended cause. but the breaking bad universe doesnt make that point to justify those actions. it’s not saying “hey, walter killed a bunch of people, but it’s okay!!! because he’s doing it for his family :)))”. however, i do think that it makes the point to then integrate the message that everyone deserves peace. and i think that’s what el camino stands for to a degree. one of the last things mike says is “just let me die in peace”. i think walter just wants to be at peace having the knowlege that his family is ok. in the same sense, gus wants to be at peace knowing that max was in the end justified. jesse does objectively bad things, but at the end, he finds peace, and he’s finally okay.

all the rise boys get done dirty on characterization by fandom in different ways i think. (not ALL the time every fanwork etc etc these are just like, trends i tend to notice?) every fandom suffers from losing character nuance.

- leo i’ve talked about plenty on this blog, how some of his canon traits (genuine belief in his skill and cockiness, capacity for joy, his manipulativeness whether for good or ill) seem to get watered down or wiped off the board and supplemented with generic sad boy. his struggles with purpose and identity and not wanting to fail somehow morph into “he hates and completely holds no value for himself”

- donnie’s canon personality gets blurred out and largely replaced with whatever list of Neurodivergent Traits. and i think there’s such a fine line to walk between exploring a character that’s been word of god confirmed as on the spectrum and overwriting what’s canonically there. it’s a hard needle to thread. it also feels like a lot of his canon emotiveness gets left off the table for some reason. bc he does have his moments of flat/deadpan delivery, but a lot of the time he’s honestly very emotive. he has the passion of a theatre kid and the vindictiveness of... also a theatre kid. and the mind of a scientist.

- raph loses so much of his rowdy teen boy energy it’s kind of wild? like interpretations sand off that he’s also impulsive and can be reckless and dumb and LOVES fighting and roughhousing and isn’t the most eloquent person. suddenly there’s this pitch perfect soft boy big bro who would never hurt a fly and always says the exact right supportive thing and singlehandedly raised his 3 brothers (which simultaneously sands off all the nuance of splinter’s issues emotionally connecting with his sons and how that affected all of them). and like i LOVE raph, he’s so full of love and care and anxiety, he clearly has learned to put a lot of work into being aware of his strength and size. but there’s a difference you know?

- mikey is like. where raph gets overparentified by fanon, mikey gets over “family therapist”-ed IMO. the impulsiveness, the goofiness, the powerful emotions including a VERY powerful temper, the flat-out dumb teen boy choices... they get ignored. suddenly there’s this only very sweet and earnest boy who has read a hundred psychology books and runs group family therapy weekly or something. he is crying in his room bc leo and raph are arguing about something. which is so. he IS very sweet and can be very earnest and is full of love! he HAS come in with his opinions and unsolicited advice a couple of times and life coached for the greater good. but there’s a difference between what he does in canon and the role he gets in fanon.
