Alright if I'm gonna look like a loon (moon ref) about some Aaravos ideas then at least I'm not alone now, LESSGO
Before we get confirmation on the actual title of 605, I wanna share the idea that I haven't been able to shake since "Moonless Night" became a possibility. Because let me tell you, when someone found those words, my gut dropped down a black hole and I wasn't sure why.
I mean, I can kind of guess why. It's the middle episode of the season. Multiple people have said it has wrecked them just to work with it. On that detail alone, I think we can guess who wrote it. And Devon's episodes always hurt me the most (affectionate)!
Why is the concept of a Moonless Night so scary? Lots of reasons come to mind this late in the show. The moon is the primal source for several characters in the show. It's a source of light and normalcy at night. And nights without moonlight are extremely dark. We all know this deep in our DNA already.
We could get Ruthari angst - Runaan suffering without the moon in his coin, trapped in darkness. Ethari suffering without Runaan and the hope and love he brought to his life.
Maybe it's Rayla struggling during a new moon, unable to do her usual moon powers in a clutch moment.
Maybe it's about the stars themselves being all the light that is, and how that's really not much and things are dark and powerful without the balance of other arcanums.
Maybe it's some or all of these.
But here's the thought that won't let me go: Fayla.
From what we think we know, Callum and Rayla get to the Starscraper in episode 4. We've seen images on promotional material, and etc.
But what's troubling me is the bits we got from NYCC attendants last fall, about how in the first episode the pearl is mysteriously empty, and Aaravos is somehow missing from it.
Where has he gone? Is he in Callum somehow? Is he doing things to his brain while he's awake, instead of giving him weird dreams?
And then there's the new twitter podcast account, Banter Lodge, posting a new Dear Callum letter yesterday.
No idea if this is fan-made or a sneak peek yet. But this is what tipped me into "holy shit" territory, because consider this with me for a second:
This letter makes it look like Rayla didn't go with Callum somewhere.
What if that somewhere is the Starscraper.
What if Callum gets all the way there and does all the things he does, and he doesn't realize until he's in the middle of the starry darkness that Rayla was never with him at all, and he has no moon at his side.
Fayla. Fake Rayla.
If his companion, all along, is Aaravos in Rayla's guise, nudging him toward wherever he wants Callum to go.
If he cannot outmatch Callum's love and trust for Rayla, he will simply shift the narrative and become that trusted source. Then, he thinks, Callum will do whatever he wants.
Sleep tight.

sorry I'm on one now. Narnia is one of my Big Rant triggers.
but like. I would be lying if I said I didn't love Narnia
(everything except the Horse and His Boy, which a) even as a tiny kid made me uncomfortable with how fucking racist it is (literally there is ONE. ONE. character of colour who isn't evil, selfish, greedy and violent. even when you're 5 and white and don't really understand racism it's like. sorry there are just no nice people in this whole country? and every Narnian is lovely?) and b) is just fucking DULL partly bc of the 2 dimensional racist caricatures populating the world)
but I can't pretend for a second that it isn't specifically built around a Christian theology that's explicitly racist, hierarchical, supremacist, colonialist and The Bits I Like Least Of Anglicanism
and my FAVOURITE books in the series (except the Silver Chair which tbh is WAY less theological and way more mythology-nerd) are the first and last, which are by far the most explicitly Christian. even more so than TLTWATW.
and I can just about stand by the Magician's Nephew bc it's mostly just a mix of Christian creation myth and CS Lewis's sci fi interests in the esoteric and multiverses and it honestly feels fine. but my all time favourite most iconic Narnia book is The Last Battle and I just. cannot. justify it for a second from a political or philosophical standpoint.
it's got it all bc it's the book where Lewis is like ok hold up let me lay out explicitly what my theology is. and what he thinks it's important to say is:
Almost all Muslims are bad and evil
They worship Satan by doing Bad Evil Deeds to please him
There are a couple of Good Muslims who do good deeds. they need to be brought to the light, understand that the voice calling them to do good deeds is the Christian god, and they too can achieve the kingdom of heaven
Some people will use Christianity as a mask for exploitation and mistreatment. They are bad and their faith is false (ok fine)
...and they're doing that because they're CONSPIRING WITH THE EVIL MUSLIMS TO OPPRESS GOOD CHRISTIANS
...and THAT'S THE ONLY REASON ANYONE WOULD TELL YOU THAT GOD AND ALLAH ARE DIFFERENT NAMES FOR THE SAME GOD. because they're either conning you or because they've been misled and can't really think for themselves.
DID I MENTION. THAT MUSLIMS ARE EVIL AND TRYING TO BRING DOWN CHRISTIANS.
and other than the GOD AREN'T MUSLIMS JUST THE WORST of it all, he also goes back over to more fully explain several points he's made throughout the series, such as:
white Christian public school kids are the god ordained leaders of the world and attempts to think otherwise are heretical
god places people where they need to be to serve his purpose
free will is largely an illusion - your only choice is faith or chaos, and as a godly person your actions are preordained
the problem is though. he's kind of a really good character writer? and in The Last Battle he pulls out most of his best classics (hi Reepicheep! hi Frank! hi Jill!) and gives us a whole wealth of really fun new characters (Tirian and Jewel, Emeth, Puzzle, Shift, Griffle and Ginger are all just SO FUN) and it's such a solid adventure. for me it's hands down the most FUN Narnia to read and an effective and affecting end to the series.
but like. god its unjustifiably fucked philosophy is baked into every single character and event. it's so hard to ignore. it's my favourite book in the series. it's the book that makes me angriest. it's everything right with Narnia and everything wrong with Narnia. I like it cause it asks me to engage critically with Lewis' philosophy and I hate it cause it requires me to engage critically with Lewis' philosophy.
in conclusion, Narnia is a land of contrasts. also occasionally brownface.

So I didn’t think I would be making another post so soon (I’m actually supposed to be working right now, but I’m doing what the kids call “procrastinating”... mostly because I don’t want to work 😭) but I just noticed my follower count:
🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
Not too shabby for a blog that I only made for this fic specifically - because you can’t post pictures on AO3 (or you can, but it’s super difficult? I’m confused by tutorials) - and only has one fic.
I promise you all that there will be more, I’m just so overloaded with work right now that I haven’t been able to finish the fic I’ve literally been working on since... *has to check notes because it’s been so long I’ve forgotten* ...April.
*sigh*
So we have about... two months? Three months until I can post the next fic. It’s maybe halfway done in the writing stage, but then I need to let it rest for a bit and then read it again so I can find all (or at least most) of the mistakes. Then I need to make all the texts (and that took like two straight weeks last time and a lot of carpal tunnel inflamation).
I can give a hint though, in case anyone is curious what might be in it, so I’ll just post the screencap I’ve been holding on to, that inspired it:
(Thank you for the idea @luvvvx )
You’ve heard of One Set of Idiots, now try Two Sets of Idiots!
Also, it’s going to be an Ateez fic. (I’ll be changing the icon and theme of the blog when we get closer lol)
So again, I apologize that this is taking so long, I just have no time 😭
But it will happen.

Look at this meteorite chonk! Look at it!! And the Herkimer diamond! Look at this thing! It’s heavy and amazing and older than Earth!
The Herkimer is half a billion years old formed in New York during the cretaceous period when New York was under water.
The iron meteorite fragment from the inside of a chunk of rock broken off an asteroid ☄️ from the main asteroid belt between Jupiter and Mars is 4.5+ billion years old. Formed in a solar nebula when our solar system formed. It’s older than EARTH.
Some meteorites even have microdiamonds discovered that are dated to be 12 billion years old. WAY BEFORE the formation of our solar system.
Like, dude, your energy was living somewhere else entirely before we all saw this and went, "Wake up, babe. New planet dropped."
THIS WAS OUT THERE CRUISING THROUGH SPACE BEFORE EARTH WAS A THING.
And it's speculated that meteorites carried the building blocks of ife - like amino acids, water, ect - could potentially be what seeding life on Earth.
We ARE literally made of stardust. We even have iron in our blood (plus a lot of other things.). We're ghosts driving meat suits made by this stuff. If it hadn't hit Earth, we might not have meat suits to drive.
Like…
Damn.
Space is so cool.
