Awright I'm gonna get my take in on the current round of CJ discourse, because I do think I have a couple things to add! I'll be super clear upfront that I don't really care very strongly about Jack in any direction, he's a convenient character from Ed's past but that's about as far as I think about him.
So, Jack is the only character who we explicitly know has known Ed since he was very young, and the only one confirmed to be with him back in the Hornigold days. It's for this reason alone that I tend to take the information he tells us about Ed at face value - not because I think he's an honest character, but because he's the only window we're provided into that time of Ed's life. We can assume Jack also got into piracy young and he's been through the exact same grinder as Ed; this is one of the reasons that Ed takes it so hard when Stede kicks Jack off the ship. He feels like Jack and himself are the same genre of person - if Stede doesn't like Jack, then he'll realize soon he doesn't like Ed, either.
If he and Ed have had a sexual relationship in the past, I think that's so much more interesting than assuming Jack is lying. Ed and Jack very explicitly are not friends. Jack talks about his "dalliances" with Ed so dismissively. I think it's much more interesting to look at this with the takeaway that Ed's past sexual relationships have been emotionally unfulfilling and do not allow him to be vulnerable because that informs our understanding of Ed later (for example, that can be a fun wrinkle into how Ed brings up the satisfying, intimate sex he had with Stede during his panic in s2e7).
Another function Jack serves is he pushes the atmosphere on the Revenge closer to what it would be on a typical pirate ship. He's constantly making cracks at the crew failing to act like "real pirates," making Stede feel left out for not enjoying such rowdy, dangerous games. This is very useful because it cultivates an atmosphere designed to drive a wedge between Ed and Stede. For Ed, these games are nostalgic. When Jack makes him uncomfortable, it's quickly followed by Jack suggesting another game. When Ed tries to apologize for one of their activities hurting Stede's feelings, or when he tries to encourage Stede to join in, Jack is there to distract Ed and make him feel, in turn, that Stede isn't just rejecting the games, he's rejecting Ed.
It highlights one thing we know about Ed: he's very, very good at conforming to what's expected of him in any given situation. He can be a people pleaser, and he very obviously just wants Stede and Jack to get along and feels stuck in the middle. I'm not saying he doesn't hurt Stede in this episode, but I am saying that when Jack is creating an atmosphere that feels like a more "typical" pirate ship, and Ed leans into the behavior that he feels is expected of him, it leaves him easily confused and upset when Stede obviously isn't enjoying it. We see unusual lack of regard for others from Ed in this episode (like him shouting "that's what you fuckin' get!" at the Swede after the Swede gets hurt), and it stands out because it's not how Ed normally acts, only adding to the guilt Ed's going to feel that makes him leave with Jack.
Neither Ed nor Stede are trying to hurt each other in this episode. Ed is falling back on old behaviors, and when Stede says he doesn't like it, the fact that he still sees Jack as being so similar to him makes him take it as a personal rejection. I don't think Ed's intentionally trying to make Stede feel singled out or bullied, and it's not Stede's fault he's not enjoying what's going on, but Jack is a very, VERY good manipulator and he's set up the perfect situation to make both of them feel wrongfooted with each other. He's not just manipulating the two of them, he's orchestrating the entire vibe of the ship to make Stede feel left out and make Ed blame himself when things go too far.

Audio Drama Sunday - 7th April ✨
Happy #AudioDramaSunday! I’ve had such a long week - here’s what made it better!🌈
👻 @tellnotalespod (S2E7) I loved the April Fool’s episode, it really brightened up my day. And the main ep was lovely too. I do so love a parakeet and the idea that some kids can actually see ghosts 🥺 but what the hell was Frank doing at the end there? Please can this be the thing that pushes Leo back into Julia’s (arms) and Riley’s circle of friendship????? Please!
🌲 @hellofromthehallowoods (146) Danielle!!!!! I am rubbing my grubby little hands together waiting for more information on how Clem and Danielle came to be Like That. The fun thing about this ?time skip is that it makes me want to be omnipresent in the narrative too. I need to know what’s happening to everyone everywhere!!
🎙️WTNV (245) Maybe I have father-related trauma, but I am HUNGRY for the Grandad Gershwin lore.
🏛 @the-mistholme-museum (FRANTIC) ohh I was wondering when the Queen was going to make an appearance (Hero is too good not to be featured LBR) but now it’s happened I’m scared!! I think the next episode is the finale and I have no idea what kind of ending is going to emerge!
🔎 @224bbaker Fawx and Stallion released the second part of their Q+A which was so much fun to listen to. We love self-indulgent show runners, particularly when we all want the same things (AKA lava-filled cage matches). Please be really cool and intelligent like me and support the S2 crowdfund! I need the case of the Birthday Boy or I’ll perish.
🍾 @ameliapodcast (30) This was such a cute episode!! Not going to lie, if the first human voice I heard was Amelia’s, I wouldn’t be mad! Not sure that they’re going to get them back as a client though . . .
🍎 @notquitedeadpod (XXX-XXXII) help, oh my god, listening to Alfie talk to Cas is actually destroying me emotionally 😭 I hate how evasive (and manipulative??) Neige is being. I KNOW there’s something huge that hasn’t yet been revealed and I’m not ready to find out what that is!
Hope everyone has had a good week! I'm so excited for more Camlann next week and I think The Silt Verses is returning too!!

HIIIII @maxphilippa IM RLLY SUPER DUPER SORRY I ACCIDENTALLY DELETED UR ASK. anywho super duper happy abt u coming to me abt pickle
so I'm gonna sort this by things that are like. in general abt him and things that might be useful for whatever ur writing.
general
Pickle (despite being labelled "The Idiot") is actually pretty resourceful, and very similair to Lightbulb in the sense that they both 'stumble' into solutions. For Pickle it's best seen in "Seas The Day", where he makes up a stupid plan in a second, however when he takes more than 10 seconds to think, he ends up with a plan that makes Paper really happy.
On that note, contrary to popular belief, he's very social! He can be seen numerous times hanging out with Soap and Cheesy, aside from the s1 contestants (tbf he's not been seen since Seas The Day. so.)
Even so, after S2, Pickle is honestly pretty reserved. He's seen having to build up the courage to talk about what's bothering him, and he's seen by himself throughout s2e7.
Because of this, when people actually take the time to talk or listen to him, he holds on tightly to it and listens to their advice.
He doesn't actually mind thinking about Taco when he decides to think or reminisce about her on his OWN. When it's brought up by someone else, he gets frustrated and upset about having to see or hear about her.
He gets excited very easily, but that's something very obvious about him. Its another thing that can actually be compared to Lightbulb
He seems to have issues trusting others after s1. This is also linked back to why he has so much trouble opening up, even to his closest friends.
He's also depressed!!!!! ougghagghhh my best friend ever :c
He does seem to like spending time with people. Eg. Seas The Day, The Complaint Desk comic, and the episode where he sends OJ, Bomb ans Salt off to get the tree for the team while he ans Taco hangout, when he plans picnics for both Taco and his girlfriend.
He is a SUCKERRRR for big romantic gestures. Big flirt apparently. Loves romantic things.
Applicable stuff
(stuff that MIGHT be useful but idk)
He loves water and swimming :3
He plays the saxophone!!!!! so either he knows music theory or he likes jazz and music theory can fuck off
he has a rubber duck, a book, and a seemingly unlit orange candle in this trash box so. maybe tjay could be useful idk.
he mostly plays multiplayer games, ans when hes playing alone he plays against bots :3
he draws himself as. a little blob.
Tumblr media
if theres anything I didnt mention that you think could be helpful pls let me know!!! I'm sure I left a lot out bc I started thinking abt this on the bus like 3 hrs ago lol. a lot of this is me using his crumbs of screentime to explode with joy. if anything else comes to mind I'll immediately tell u
either way have fun!!! write him however u want he's barely ever seen anyway

from the very first season,  we are shown that dennis cares a  lot  about his physical appearance.  a lot of fans argue that this is his vanity and narcissism,  but i truly think that it is in a eating disorder.  as someone with an eating disorder,  i see a lot of my food habits and behaviors in dennis words/actions.  at the very end of this you will find a list of multiple episodes with direct quotes from the show showing this behavior.  this meta is going to go under a read more because i will be talking in detail about eating disorder behavior, also it just got really long and kind of away from me. please keep this in mind when you read this !!
dennis often worries about his appearance,  asking for validation from others to tell him that he looks good or he is in shape.  there are also often times when dennis critiques someone else's physical appearance,  commenting about how fat they’ve gotten or how out of shape they are.  i think that this is him projecting his own insecurities onto others.
the show does go into great detail about dennis eating habits,  and i’m going to list a few of them here:
restricting his food intake
fasting for a day, or multiple days at a time
exercising multiple times a day
not eating gluten, sugar, or dairy
concerned about calorie contents in food
over eating during periods when he feels anxious
purging when he feels like he has eaten something toxic
drinking hard liquor instead of beer because it contains a lot of "empty calories"
becoming physically ill when he ingests something that has a higher calorie count than he is used to
dennis also worries a lot about his physical appearance. in the show he dyes his hair and puts on makeup to make sure that he is always looking his best. he is frequently worried about other peoples perception of him.
i do think that his eating disorder behavior partially comes from his need to be seen as desirable and attractive, but i do think some of it also comes from his desperate need for control over something. dennis is often controlling others and manipulating things behind the scenes, and ends up going into rage filled rants when things do not go as planned. he has specific systems for everything, and he hates when things feel out of control.
i think ultimately dennis really struggles with the idea of being good enough. i think he tries very hard to appear 'attractive' because he feels like that is what he needs to do. when he was younger, he was clearly his mothers favorite sibling. barbara has admitted that in the show and it is not just speculation. she put an insane amount of pressure on dennis from a very young age to be the very best he can be. i believe this is also part of the reason why dennis often manipulates his personality and puts on a different 'mask' depending on the situation.
i'm not sure exactly what eating disorder he has, i'm feeling like if he were every to get a diagnosis he would probably be diagnosed with something like ednos ( eating disorder not otherwise specified ). dennis shows symptoms of anorexia, bulimia, and orthorexia.
alright, now into the quotes to back up my claims about dennis' eating disorder. there are multiple instances in canon that dennis shows the symptoms of his eating disorder.  i have probably missed a few of these,  but under the cut you can find some quotes from various episodes that really stood out to me. i think these moments really show dennis' eating disorder and the symptoms of it.
the gang exploits a miracle,  s2e7:
dennis: does my face look fat to you ?? dee: yeah dennis: no no don’t screw with me here seriously … it’s just the tv right ?? dee: no it’s been looking fat den: hey matty matthew mara (cricket): hey dennis how are you ?? dennis: i’ve been better,  i’ve been better.  let me ask you a question man. um … i know it’s been years since we’ve seen each other but does my face look fat to you ?? cricket: well we’ve all put on a few since high school dennis: of course, of course,  but i don’t look fat right ?? cricket: uhm no.  dennis,  a few moments later: check it out though,  why did you pause before you said no earlier? cricket: i’m sorry ?? dennis: well earlier when i asked you if my face looked fat you kind of paused  cricket: i’m … not sure.  dennis: hello ( gestures towards himself,  sucking in his cheeks ) dee: what is wrong with you ?? dennis: ugh well i’ve been fasting for three days so i probably look good. dee: you haven’t eaten anything for three days ?? dennis: and i feel great ( said slurred,  looks woozy ) frank: why the hell are you fasting dennis: well i thought i would get into the spirit of the religious aspect that we got going- dee: it’s ‘cus we said his face looks fat dennis: it is not i … p-people have been fasting for thousands of years- dee: face looks fat dennis: -for heath and religious purposes.  moses- dee: fat face dee then continues to talk over dennis while saying over and over again that he looks fat,  that his face is fat, ect.  frank: lets find some coffee sober him up dennis stares off into the distance for a few seconds, not responding frank: did you hear me ?? dennis: hm ?? frank: dennis … i think you really gotta eat.  dennis: no i just spaced out for a second … what’s up ?? dee: whoa,  you are not lookin' good, huh ?? dennis: truth,  truth. face fat ?? dee: no, you idiot.  your face is fine.  i just got mad that you called mine blotchy. dennis: oh.  why-why-why ... dee: what ?? dennis: why you do that ?? dee: oh, um, because you're a bad person. a few moments later dennis ends up passing passing out due to the fact that he hasn’t eaten in several days.
the gang gets whacked pt 2,  s3e13
frank: you leave everything to me.  all you have to do is sit there,  relax,  have yourself a drink,  and just keep lookin’ handsome. dennis: okay i like that arrangement get me a beer frank!  frank: oh,  no beer.  too many calories.  it’s all about keeping this body fit.  i’ll get ya a nice vodka tonic.  dennis: well that doesn’t have much calories so i think that’s a smart drink.
sweet dee has a heart attack,  s3e10
dennis and dee are at the gym,  discussing what type of physique they want to achieve by working out dennis: i don’t wanna get too bulky.  i wanna stay nice and lean and tight.  i want that jesus on the cross look. dee: i see what you’re saying. dennis: jesus had the right idea,  no pain no gain.
the nightman cometh,  s4e13
charlie: dennis, what are you doing ?? dennis,  eating baby sized snickers bars: i'm eating because I'm very uncomfortable.
mac and dennis break up,  s5e9
now i’m not exactly sure if this counts as  disordered eating  but it very well could be,  either disordered talk/beliefs.  i can see this being more related to dennis’ autism and desiere for structure,  but i do think it is related to dennis needing some control over his food. dennis: oh do me a favor.  peel this apple for me please ??  dee: no !!  no,  i’m not going to peel an apple for you. dennis: but mac always does it for me. dee: why does mac peel your apples for you ??  dennis: he doesn’t like for me to eat the apples with the skin on it.  he says the skins are loaded with toxins they argue for a bit more,  and then dennis shouts about how he is not “allowed” to eat apples with the skin on them.
the gang gets a new member,  s6e8
dennis orders salads for himself,  mac,  schmitty,  and frank for lunch.  when schmitty comments that he would prefer linguini,  dennis says  “linguini is too heavy for lunch”.
frank’s pretty woman,  s7e1
mac: this is getting ridiculous dude.  we’re getting older we’re not going to look older. dennis: no i am going to look twenty forever,  mac.  because the older i get the more vigilant i become.  alright,  i don’t eat lunch anymore for instance.  yeah !!  and on odd days i don’t eat breakfast. mac: that sounds miserable. dennis: no dude,  it’s not miserable.  well,  yeah it is a little bit.  but it has to be man !!  no pain no gain !!  i am also constantly in motion.  like right now ??  dude,  i am doing leg lifts that are imperceptable to the human eye.  call ‘em hummingbirds.  and although i seem relaxed,  i’m actually incredibly tense at all times.  a few moments later a doctor goes over mac and dennis’ medical test results doctor: well i see severe dehydration here,  multiple vitamin deficiencies,  anemia,  low blood pressure. dennis: mac,  i don’t want you to fret okay i’m gonna get you on my exercise program,  i’m gonna get you fit as a fiddle. doctor: no these … these are your results mister reynolds.  a few moments later,  dennis almost passes out and says he hasn’t eaten anything all day.
the high school reunion pt. 2: the gangs revenge,  s7e13
dennis: yeah i’m wearing a little bit of makeup,  who doesn’t- tim murphy’s wife: and a girdle  dennis: yeah i wanted to seem thin for the occasion,  that’s not weird.
mac day,  s9e5
dennis,  while eating chips:  carbs wise this is gonna set me back but i don’t even give a shit.
dennis takes a mental health day, s16e8
dennis is trying to order a tea for himself but the employee at the boba tea shop informs him that he cannot order tea without boba. dennis: you know, so, I'll take the tea without the covert diabetes delivery mechanism, please.

You guys!

We got a teaser!! And even though it doesn't show much yet (and the teaser reuses footage from the first two seasons - such as Nine's and Sonic's High Five), there's still plenty of interesting details - starting with the thumbnail actually. Sonic is wearing his Grim attire, and Shadow is standing next to him. I guess that means he will be able to enter different Shatterspaces too now.
Spoilers and some of my observations under the cut.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A possible explaination for why Shadow is seemingly in the Grim with Sonic could be this. The beam to the sky in the Grim from Nine's lab creates something that is reminiscent of the portals the Chaos Council created in the Season 2 finale. Now, these screenshots appear in a different order from how I posted them here in the teaser, but my guess is that the second screenshot with Sonic and Shadow standing in front of the disintegrating mountain actually takes place after someone (presumably Nine) creates the portal thing in the Grim in the first screenshot.
We also see these purple "tears" that seem to act a bit like black holes and suck in the palm trees (a.k.a. the recurring symbol of hope in Sonic Prime - which means whatever is happening, it's deadly serious). It also makes me think of the darkness Shadow mentioned in S2E1 - this might become important in this context. Since Sonic Prime is canon to the games, according to Ian Flynn, my guess is that this could be The End, and Sonic Prime could be some kind of backstory to Sonic Frontiers.
Anyway, my guess is that these tears are a consequence of whatever is happening in the Grim, and they might be what enables Shadow to travel to the Grim, and possibly other Shatterspaces.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The teaser also shows us quite a few examples of Sonic and Shadow working together - including the two of them speeding towards one of the purple tears. Yes, both of them. You can see a blue and a yellow blur. I guess they realized folks really liked that and Tumblr kept talking about it for an entire week. Honestly, I'm not complaining. Sonic and Shadow teaming up is bound to be interesting.
Tumblr media
We also got a look at what seem to be Nine's minions - robots modeled after Rouge, Knuckles and Amy while also being reminiscent of Chaos Sonic, which could make for a really interesting storyline IMO! Curiously, the big robot in the background seems to be modeled after Birdie from Boscage Maze. Oh Nine, what are you doing... But what am I saying.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The teaser makes it look like he has turned into a big time villain, hopefully intentionally in order to be a bit misleading - so far, Nine has been portrayed as hurt and somewhat rash, but not evil for the sake of being evil. I really hope that he can get a happy ending as well, and the fact that they showed the high five from S2E7 gives me hope.
One way or another, I'm excited for Season 3!! Unfortunately, we still don't have release date, so I guess early 2024 it is.

I think I'm losing my grip on the Ed/Stede chemistry, and their chance at a solid rom-com ending.
The true happy ending, I think, would be Ed and Stede winding up together somewhere in the middle of the lives they escaped, but at this point they've shot right past each other into the extremes where they each started, except in reverse.
See, they had very similar struggles at the beginning of the series, just under very different circumstances. They both had external expectations weighing them down. They both had practically zero opportunity for self-determination. They were both discontent and trapped in lives they felt powerless to change or leave.
They did eventually leave, but they just... like I said, they each went TOO HARD in the opposite direction of their initial circumstances instead of meeting in the middle.
As of s2e7, Ed's trying to force himself into a mundane life that he won't find truly fulfilling because it'll turn out as dull and repetitive as piracy became. He's making his life small & slow, trying to hide himself away, denying himself the things he actually wants, just like Stede did before going to the sea.
As of s2e7, Stede is actively cultivating a reputation, a persona. He's building up recognition, hero worship, fear, etc. He's popular and "important". He's immersing himself in the exact same thing Ed has desperately been trying to escape this whole time.
They need to find their way back to some sort of middle. Maybe they really do open an Inn By The Sea, so Stede can sail off and have adventures every now and again, and Ed can learn to be the friendly jailer he described in his "gravy basket" vision. Some of the crew may even want to stay and help. (Probably not Izzy, though; I'm guessing he won't ever stop pirating)
They can't and won't find their way to that place when they're still just as clueless about how to navigate an adult romantic relationship (a functional one, not like Anne & Mary's "adult" relationship) as they were before. This season, as far as I knew, was supposed to lead them to a more mature place as middle-age men in love, but that suuuuuper didn't happen.
They still don't/won't say everything that needs to be said.
Stede hasn't explained the psychological torture he was forced to endure at the business end of Chauncey's pistol, the way all his deepest fears and insecurities were used to bludgeon his psyche into pulp, right before he bore witness to ANOTHER accidental right-through-the-eye Badminton death. He hasn't explained that he wanted to save Ed from the plague, the curse, of Stede Bonnet. He hasn't explained that he couldn't conceive of a reality where Ed didn't eventually either succumb to the poison of Stede's mere proximity, or come to the same conclusion as Chauncey.
Ed hasn't explained that after laying his heart at Stede's feet, and then being abandoned/betrayed, his heart wound up shattered. He hasn't explained that he'd almost let himself waste away before Lucius convinced him to start gluing his heart back together, only to have the fragile broken pieces pulverized into dust by Izzy's threat. He hasn't explained that he lost touch with reality, did a lot of things he regrets, things he finds sickening, things that nearly took everyone down with him. He hasn't explained that he fears Stede will leave him again, which is why he wants to "take it slow," because he's scared to truly start anything; if it never starts, it can't ever end.
And we have 30 minutes to resolve all this, plus MUCH more?!?
I don't see how one final 30 minute episode can resolve... I mean, much of anything, really. Because that's all we're guaranteed at this point. There's not been even a whisper of renewal from HBO, and 30 minutes isn't nearly enough time to stick the landing firmly in rom-com territory.

The bad sweet ending of Leverage: Redemption S2E7 "The Big Rig Job"
If you don't remember the episode, here's a summary:
There's a trucking company run by Nick Stewart who was a Santa guy, who loved his workers and every Christmas donated toys to orphans.
Fast forward a few years later right before Christmas, Nick is long dead and his children run the company, doing bad labor practices and running guns for the mob. The Leverage crew learn this and try to squeeze in a job right before their Christmas plans - Harry going on vacation with his daughter and Breanna and Parker going to visit Nana.
During the job they meet Janice, Nick's lover who still donates toys to orphans and dislikes Nick's children's treatment of the workers.
The job takes too long and they decide to spend Christmas eve together as a Family instead of on a plane going to see their families. They also send the bad guys to prison and make Janice into CEO of the company, so she can treat the workers well. The final shot of the episode is of the crew entering a building together as Family with Christmas cheer.
I have two problems with this ending, that requires you to agree to three points:
1) the ending is supposed to be a good and sweet ending - it's easier to watch the final 2 minutes of the episode than to read the explanation, but basically Janice and the Victim are grateful to the crew, and then there's a shot of Sophie smiling and Parker and Breanna skipping, with a backdrop of Christmas lights.
2) the problems in the episode were created by the good owner's death - it's also pretty obvious from the text. Nick was a good owner, he died, his children inherited the company, and they turned it shady.
3) it's good for the crew to be with their family - this one I have to prove, but you might not agree with me. Lots of episodes end with the crew hanging out, because they're Family and they love each other. But the characters should also make time for their loved ones, right? I'm not saying the crew hanging out during Christmas or Thanksgiving is bad, but this episode specifically said they're together instead of their original plans to be with their families. There are two empty seats at Nana's table and Harry's daughter probably expected her father to snowboard with her. You could argue that Nana sent them pies and they'll see her at New Year's Eve, and that Harry was joining his daughter on her vacation instead of taking her on vacation, but I still think a good ending would've been them going to see their families.
My first problem is this: they didn't solve the problem in the episode. Janice will one day die and her successor could once again hurt employees and smuggle guns. Not only that, this episode specifically says a good boss doesn't prevent problems. Unlike other episodes with a Bad Boss&Good Employee, where by the end the Boss goes to jail and the Employee becomes boss, where you're encouraged to assume it's good that the Employee is in charge, here the text of the episode says it's not the end, and yet there's a heartwarming ending. They delayed the problem by a few years and have the Christmas equivalent of walking into the sunset.
My second problem is they missed seeing their family on a major holiday to spend time with their co-workers. The good ending of them hanging together forgets how excited Parker was to see Nana and how Harry really wanted to snowboard with his daughter. There isn't much to add beyond what I wrote in (3).
This episode is just very emblematic of a big problem with Leverage: Redemption - they are aware the systems aren't good, with how many corrupt CEOs and politicians and grifters they take down, and their constant talk about how the System failed the Victims and allowed the Bad Guys to continue their bad behavior, but they can only take down one Bad Guy at a time and can't change the system. Most episodes pretend to have a good ending when the episode's problem could just happen the next day. The characters know there is a problem, know what the problem is, want to help and have the ability to help, but the show can't let them.
(Leverage was also very aware the systems aren't good, but they were led by Nate who hated Bad Guys more than he liked helping people, so the problem didn't exist as much)

I made episodes tier list because I wanna talk about some of the episodes and I'm bored So there's my personal tier
s1e3 After wathcing the 1st film I thought that the thing with the team becoming too relaxed and arrogant about their victory was soluted a bit too fast?? Which is not a big problem, since the film wasn't focused on that at all and there wasn't time for that, unlike in the series. I think it's pretty intresting that the writers decided to actually use that plotline and the way Deniz has put the team on their place was just gorgeous.
s1e5 What I like about this episode is that it shows how Deniz actually cares for dwk. Judging by some of his lines, he never really had real friends, so his connection with the bunch was pretty cute and wholesome. I also like the depiction of Deniz's relationships with his dad Erol, the way he's strict and pushy, but is still willig to listen to his son (only by the end of the episode but whatever...).
s2e4 Not much to say about it tbh. I just like how the buch interacted (some kind of satisfaction of seeing them nearly falling apart lmao) and Markus's character in this episode. Sad and wholesome.
s2e3 Also not much to say about this episode. Just like Vanessa's character development.
s2e6 Here I like the idea of dwk interracting with siegers in a friendly manner. The reveal of Kong's other side was somewhat cute, I like how the show doesn't show them as complete evil. Well, at least it tried, since all the progress would be watered down in two next episodes, but on its own it was a nice episode.
s2e13 I just think it was a good finale and a good place to put an end to the series.
The whole A tier is mostly because of the interesting interactions between the characters (s2e9, s2e11), the way the series show the gang from a different angle (s1e8, s1e2, s2e7) or Jojo's arc lol (s2e5, s1e7 (yeah i think his character arc is the best out of all of them)).
B tier are just good episodes, not that much to say about them. Actually no, I'm gonna express my feeling about s2e12. Despite it being one of my personal faves, the way they've been making this Champions cup a big deal in the second season ended up being a small game for a few minutes. Like, the 1st season's finale singled out the whole episode for that, but here it's just Leon being an asshole for the majority of the time. At least he finally gets some character development. Wow, guys, he finally apologized for his actions, thank you, we've been waiting for it for two sesons.
C tier episodes are fine, but not my faves. S1e4 had a pretty mixed massage tho. Like girls are cool, but guys are cooler and you can be cool but only if you play with boys. Like eehhh. That's why C.
s1e12 is okay-ish, but kinda boring to me, since it's just the bunch getting beaten. And I don't like s2e8 because it waters down Marlon's and Kong's progress comletly like it was nothing.
That's all I wanted to say basically. Feel free to use this template and express your oppinion on the episodes, I'd be glad to hear it 👀

I wanna talk about the approach to the supernatural in Reservation Dogs.
I'd like to add as a disclaimer that I'm not yet familiar with most of Taika Waititi's other work. I know he has written about the supernatural before, but I haven't seen it firsthand so I don't know if what I'm about to say is unique to Rez Dogs or if its common throughout his work.
The show presents the supernatural and poses the question of whether or not it's "real" in the very first episode of the series with Big and his field of catfish (among other conspiracies). Big is often used as the POV character for these phenomena because he's presented as someone who readily accepts conspiracies, supernatural theories, and is known in his community as a Bigfoot-hunting wackjob. By doing this, the show makes the audience question if the things Big sees are real. At the same time, very "real" supernatural events happen to other characters, such as the Spirit who speaks to Bear. Some truth is shown to Big's beliefs in S1E5 Come and Get Your Love, where the Deer Lady is definitely shown to be real. This is all the Season 1 setup for the glorious romp that is S2E8 This is Where the Plot Thickens (which we'll come back to), where the line between reality and supernaturality is completely blurred, but there's a larger theme at play here I think. I would say Reservation Dogs likes to present reality-based solutions to supernatural problems, but without ever discounting those problems as "fake" or "just in your head." I feel like this is in contrast to a lot of media, which tends to do the Scooby Doo "There was a logical explanation the entire time!!!" thing. Not here.
The supernatural IS real
BUT it is always conquered by the mundane.
First, I want to pivot to Elora. There's a small scene in Stay Gold Cheesy Boy (S2E7) that illustrates what I mean really well. At the end of the previous episode (S2E6), Elora is shown sitting alone in her house. A house she is now the sole owner of. She begins to hear chanting coming from Mabel's bedroom, reminiscent of the elders who chanted as she was dying. Elora nervously investigates. The chanting gets louder as she approaches the bedroom, but it ends suddenly when she turns the light on. Elora turns the light off and walks back into the hallway, looking around her darkened house as if in a panic. There's muffled chanting and a growing soundwall that makes you feel claustrophobic, like something is coming towards you/her. The camera zooms in on her distraught face in the dark and then cuts to credits.
I don't know about the rest of ya'll, but that scared the shit out of me!!! I was like "oh fuck, what might happen to Elora???" This is Reservation Dogs! Shit can get DARK. She hasn't been in a great place mentally.
We don't see Elora at all for the beginning of Stay Gold Cheesy Boy. When Jackie goes to tell Bear and Willie Jack that Cheese was arrested, she says that Elora isn't answering her phone, spiking anxiety in the audience. You're made to wonder if she's okay.
But soon after the three of them find Elora at her house, plugged into headphones, painting the walls of her grandmother's bedroom, and there's relief. But that was quite the buildup to what turned out to be a paint job, right?
Elora is haunted by her grief, and as we saw in Mabel (S2E4), by the memories the house holds that she doesn't, by its history. Elora wanted to leave the Village, but now she's chained to it by this house she suddenly owns. I don't think the chanting and strange noises were just in Elora's head. She was being haunted. But she also didn't get attacked in the night by ghosts and the solution wasn't to hire an exorcist. When we're haunted by the past, the best thing we can do is look to the future. Elora was being haunted by the house's past so she took a step towards the house's (and her own) future. It's a very... reasonable reaction for a person to have. You can sense the urgency Elora felt to get this done after that harrowing night. What would you do if you felt like you couldn't handle living in a house with its history and memories? If you can't move, giving it a new coat of paint might be the next best thing.
Back to S2E8, this episode is a great example because it plays so much with the audience's sense of reality. A character with one of the strongest connections to the supernatural we've seen, Big, accidentally starts tripping on a huge dose of acid. He's soon followed by Kenny Boy. Complete side note, the juxtaposition of nervous and terrified Big's first time on acid, and chill Kenny Boy (hecking love Kirk Fox btw), who has probably done this a billion times, just vibing is hilarious. A lot of what Big sees can be assumed to be hallucinations, although in this show you can never be too sure. Deer Lady appears but is it really her or is it just his memory of her? Until they come upon the cultists. The Field of Catfish was a mystery presented at the start and built up a little every time Big would see or talk about it with no possible explanation. It turns out, the answer was weird cultists who fuck dead catfish. As wild as that is, it's still an answer grounded in reality so it brings your expectations back down a little bit. Then a bona-fide Supernatural Phenomenon shows up to save them. Not only is the Deer Lady confirmed to be SEEN by someone other than Big, but Kenny Boy KNOWS her, they've met before! So, there can no longer be any doubt in the audience's mind.
As a refresher, the Deer Lady is a supernatural woman with deer legs (as the name implies) who kills "bad" men (and men specifically). Figuring out what "bad" and "good" means is kind of what Big's arc is all about. She asks if Kenny Boy has been good and he replies, smiling, "No... but I've been trying real hard." Kenny Boy isn't someone Big would consider "good" in his very simplistic, child-like idea of it. Her affection toward Kenny Boy shows that being good isnt just saying No to drugs and following the law. Her targets are consistently womanizing rich men who have no regard for others or their environment. She does extend to outright criminals like murderers and robbers if the opportunity presents itself, but usually to protect or save someone. I don't think she likes to work in the open if she can avoid it. The Deer Lady is a supernatural phenomenon that punishes Bad Men. You can avoid getting killed by her by being a Good Man. By not flaunting excessive wealth, by not harming others, and by caring about people around you. The fundamentals of being a decent human being.
There's other examples of this throughout the show of course, but these are a couple that stood out to me. A kind of overlapping theme that I'd love to delve into is the reverence given to Weirdos who Just Say Shit. Junkies, homeless, random dudes in waiting rooms, etc. All spewing their strange ramblings to whoever will hear, but the show frames them as wise and worth listening to. I think I need to end this post before I get too off-topic, but I think it plays into this theme as well.
I've intentionally avoided speaking on the scenes of prayer, where there's a very obvious crossing between these boundaries. I think there's a lot to say about those scenes as well, but I am not Indigenous and I feel like I'd be trying to speak on cultural and spiritual practices I know nothing about. I already feel dangerously close to doing that. I really don't want to make assumptions about anyone's beliefs, so I've tried to stick to examining the screenwriting and how it conveys these themes. If anyone else is willing to add their input, I'd be thrilled to read it.

The Buffy Re-watch: S2E7 (part 1)
Lie to me
Playground equipment moving in the wind, not unsettling at all. How many horrors feature this type of thing at the beginning of their films or TV shows?
Then Drusilla comes in, stalks and tries to kidnap a child to amp up the creepy. Well done.
Angel appears and he and Dru have history, which makes sense because if he knew Spike, he would know Dru. We find out later what their real connection is and whoa boy, it is a doozy.
The kicker here is that Buffy sees it all. Doesn't take a genius to work out that they know each other.
Hold on! Giles, wants Buffy to have the night off? Did he get replaced by an alien? Or did he finally listen to his slayer about having a healthy work/life balance?
Passing notes in class. Something I never did in school. I didn't do a lot of things in school. God, my time at school was shit. This is not a new realisation, just remembering.
An old friend of Buffy's appears, probably one of the few she has left from LA, Billy Fordham.
If you have never heard the Divinyls song 'I touch myself' take 3 guesses as to what it's about and the first 2 don't count. This song was also famously used in 'Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery' in the scene where he dance fights the fembots towards the end of the film.
Willow's realisation as to the meaning of the song steals the scene for me.
Angel, honey, sweetie, learn to tell your sort of girlfriend the truth. Things would go much easier if you did.
Ford knows Buffy is the slayer. Buffy keeping being the slayer a secret identity is on par with James Bond keeping secret that he is a spy. Both of them are shit at it.
Mysterious club with very heavy metal doors? Never a good sign. And oh look, vampire wannabes.
Ford taking meds and wanting to turn into a vampire. Hmm, me thinks something is up.
Angel appearing again, but at Willow's house because he rightfully thinks Ford is being sus, and Willow confirms this with the school having no record of him having transferred.
Giles understands that Ford is cute, and that Buffy thinks he is too.
Ford came prepared, he has that going for him, but is still sus.
So, the entire club is made up of delusional people who believe that vampires are fluffy bunnies, and that they are really just misunderstood. Not in this universe they aren't. Hell, Angel and Spike while ensouled can still turn into rage machines if the occasion calls for it. They don't even know that one of the most feared vampires in history is standing right in front of them, that would be terrifying to know. To which I now have to ask, is there much in the way of vampires being good? There's Hellsing where Alucard and Seras are good, Blade from the Marvel comics, Alucard from Castlevania (loved the Netflix series by the way and looking forward to the next one), Underworld has Selene. Are there any others? And not just one or two of them, but where vampires as a whole are the good guys?
Jenny took Giles to go see Monster Trucks... I need to see that.
That angry mob in Prague did a shite job of killing Dru, since she is still walking around.
Dru is referred to as a 'sometime paramour of Spike's' does that mean they have an on-again-off-again relationship or just a very long term one? Because either is sort of believable, especially with how Dru can be.
Genuine question: do I come across as sarcastic in these posts? Because when I read through my notes in my head I definitely sound sarcastic, same when typing. I'm just curious.
Anyway, part 2 will be tomorrow.

I really wish they'd had time to develop Ricky more, because I think he could have been such an interesting parallel for Stede. That's clearly what they were going for - Izzy's Pinocchio joke really drives it home - and the bones are there but I wish there was more.
Ricky's a lot like Stede, except in all the ways that matter, and that could be such an interesting dynamic. He really is endearingly pathetic when he's standing out in the rain just to talk to Stede, but he always condescends to people he perceives as "lesser" than him in a way that Stede never did even at the start. He acts like he's owed a shot at being a pirate just because Stede did it. He's shown to be a good, outside-the-box thinker in a similar way to Stede; in s2e6 when Zheng tells him he could "end piracy without firing a single shot," he repeats "shot" and you can see his plan in s2e7 coming together in his head. In the finale we get a sense others in his social class look down on him just like Stede; one of the officers says "who would have thought little Ricky Banes could do this" and it clearly hits a nerve, making him say "anyone with half a brain." Even with his limited screen time he seems to have a lot of similar traits and insecurities as Stede, just a bit to the left.
I really wish they'd had more time to build him up like I'm sure they originally planned, because the bones are damn compelling.

Heartstopper s2e7 spoilers!
Also TW parental abuse
This is a bit of a trauma dump so feel free to scroll if you need to.
I just watched episode 7 of Heartstopper season 2, and I need to vent about it.
The fight that Darcy had with her mom reminds me so much of how I left home, and it's really getting to me.
When I was 18, I had a stupid fight about nothing with my mom (I can't even remember what it was supposed to be about tbh), which got physical. I don't remember exactly how it happened but she ended up ripping off and breaking the necklace that my then bf had given to me, that's how bad it was.
She then screamed at me to "either follow her rules or get out" and left for work.
I then got some of my things and left.
First I went to my then bf, who introduced me to a really nice family he knew, who took me in.
(They were a family of witches actually and I had a really good time there but that's a whole other story)
Anyways, back to the point. Seeing something very similar happen to someone else brought it all back to me, as if it was buried beneath a whole lot of other shit I've been through, and I don't think I ever actually fully processed it. And seeing it from an outside perspective makes me realise just how messed up it is for a parent to behave that way.
And I'm turning 30 in like, a week. This shit happened OVER A DECADE AGO and it is still there, in the back of my mind. Shit like this can PERMANENTLY damage a child's brain, and I don't understand how any parent could be okay with doing that to their own child. Especially now that I'm a parent myself.
If anyone reading this is in a similar situation, I'm so, so sorry. Your parent should not be hurting you, neither emotionally nor physically. You deserve so much more than that, and there will be a time when you can live more freely. It won't be easy and it will probably never fully go away, but you will be able to breathe. In the meantime, I'm sending all of the digital parental hugs to whoever needs them 🫂

s2e7 belly of the beast spoilers! rambly rambly thoughts. loved this episode, love this show. sorry, it's very long.
jim, jade and tabitha
CONGRATULATIONS JADE for officially not losing your mind and coming on top of the whole thing. CONDOLENCES to JIM for catching the crazy ball and going full conspiracy theorist now it's him that i'm most worried for. basically what tabitha said. they don't know but they gotta cope with not knowing. i'm glad to see jade and tabitha on the same wavelength about that because from my personal experience i think it's the healthiest mindset you can have in a situation like that. jumping to conclusions like i was saying in my other post is extremely dangerous.
also glad to see jade's first actual contribution to everyday life in the town. hilarious that's gonna be "better alcohol" but awesome that he found something to work on to keep him sane. "i needed a project that wasn't fucking terrifying" i love you jade. your soul is beautiful. also i don't care if i'm grasping at straws but i think victor interrupting him when he was in the middle of his crazy guy skit really helped him stay grounded so he kind of wanted to help tabitha too and that's why he roped her along on his project. like "okay, i'll give you the crazy town lore BUT you gotta do a normal person thing too to balance it out and not lose yourself in this". or maybe he was just lonely and wanted someone to work with him on his project. i've been lowkey shipping them since before they even interacted so i guess this episode was like my personal christmas.
ship or no ship i think it's really important for tabitha to open up with someone outside of her family. it's probably gonna make her family life better to have, you know, friends. jade has a talent for knowing what to say around really heavy topics. telling her "fuck, that sucks, i don't think you're being punished though, i think maybe bad things are just happening and that's it" was really what she needed to hear. in the early episodes tabitha complains to jim that him acting like he knows everything and saying it's all going to be fine like it's obvious makes her feel like she's "doing something wrong". jim's kind of doubling down on acting like he's got it all figured out so i'm glad tabby has a friend that's more on her wavelength now.
i'm fully biased because of my own personal experiences i'll admit it, but i don't think trying to fix a relationship that went south a long time ago is always the best course of action. parting ways doesn't have to be a tragedy, sometimes it's a really good thing. in s1 it looked like they were kinda fixing it but now it feels like they're further apart than at the beginning of the show. i feel really bad for jim but he's gotta pull himself out of that hole he's digging for himself. he's not just jumping to conclusions about things he can't know, he's rejecting reality ("that's what they want you to think!!!" about tabitha defending victor because he's proved time and time again that he's a good man) and leaning on someone that's encouraging him to keep thinking that way and who he barely knows. i'm thinking what other character could help him but i'm kind of drawing a blank. maybe also jade. just pushing my ot3 agenda sorry guys.
donna and fatima, victor and ethan
even though pregnancy in fiction is kind of an ick of mine (SPECIALLY when something goes supernaturally wrong with the pregnancy like, the lord is testing me i guess...?) so i can't really get on board the excitement some of the characters show, i'm really enjoying the "can any of the supernatural wild stuff happening here actually be GOOD" theme with the pregnancy and the changing of the leaves. fatima gave me some strong john locke (the bald guy, not the philosopher) vibes with the pregnancy when she's not supposed to be able to have kids. but i'm not gonna be able to breathe well again until they confirm that's not gonna be some night creature baby thing. if i could i'd honestly abort in that situation like absolutely not risking that possibility like can you imagine? can you freaking imagine. nononono. not taking that chance. nopp.
ANYWAY victor and ethan were so sweet and sad and i'm sobbing. victor saying he wants to protect ethan because bad things always happen to his friends here :')))) give me 10 thousand tissues please. but he let him help in the end and ethan was so happy. i'm actually sobbing. i love them i love them i love them. their friendship has my whole heart. also, love victor's vest.
jim and randall
love himmmmmmmmmmmm love him love him he was just flying his drone, he was going to his nephew's bday and that was such a badass present to give. love this guy what can i say. he has such a cute smile too. he's just got there and he knows nothing and i'm scared for him. the bit he added to jim's theory is SO dangerous though like starting to distrust each other is the last thing they should be doing. hell randall himself could be the person that's "in on it" for all we know, that's one hell of a question to raise if you want to cause disruption on purpose. i don't think he is though but like jim should consider it before he goes around distrusting people that have proven to be kind hearted like victor.
kenny's warning to jade in s1 ("the people who can't adapt here, when they can't bend, they break") rings specially true for jim rn. he's genuinely not past his first impression of victor, who he mistook for a child molester when they first arrived (rightfully let's be honest, he was being creepy to an outside observer and he did point his gun at him). unlike jade who's changed his approach (from "i don't do impossible" to "maybe crazy awful shit happens here and that's it"), jim's been completely unable to get past his first impressions of everything and is cracking under the pressure, and pulling apart from his loved ones bc of it... really worrying.
OK THIS IS LONG ENOUGH ILL SAVE THE KENNY THOUGHTS FOR A DIFFERENT POST
