Hii!!

When i was a kid I had this reoccurring dream of being in front of my house, playing in a sand hill and then an old man came up to me and asked "could you please find me a butterfly? It's been so long since I last saw one". After that I spent some time trying to catch a butterfly, and when I finally got it he showed up again, smiled, said "thank you" and sliced my throat open. The last thing I saw was the blood on the sand hill.

After the first time I had this dream I kept having the impression of seeing the old man in our neighborhood, but he only approached in dreams

Could be the Slaughter, but it’s a very clean kill for it; I’d say the End. The butterfly seems symbolically heavy… dying just as you’ve achieved your goal has a particular sting to it.

Tamlin Week 2024, Day 4: (a belated) Happily Ever After

We stood atop the hill in silence, until the setting sun gilded the house and the hills and the world and Lucien called us to dinner. ~ A Court of Thorns and Roses, ch. 45

This was inspired by the meadow scene in Studio Ghibli's "Howl's Moving Castle", hence the Ghibli-esque illustration style I went for here.

Many pro-Tamlin fans prefer to think of ACOTAR as a standalone book, and I am no exception. So my contribution to the "Happily Ever After" theme is them walking off into the sunset at the end of book 1. I hope you like it.

#i know this is incredibly late #it's been a really rough week #i didn't want to complain on main #so i just laid low for a while #but i still wanted to contribute more to the event #so here you go #i debated over whether or not to stick to canon by portraying feyre's tattoo #in the end i decided to keep it #and show tamlin embracing it #i also gave him a scar #any castlevania fans may recognize the alucard influence #but i wanted to highlight the fact that tamlin did get stabbed so that feyre could win the final trial #and it was with an ash dagger #that's gotta leave a mark #so while sjm plays loosey goosey with her magic rules #i used some artistic license to give him a scar #so there #and as you can see #feyre's hand is on his heart #where she can feel it beating #the end #whew #feylin #tamlin #tamlin week #day 4 #my art #my fanart

Something I've learned recently is that there's multiple ways you can respond when you identify hypocrisy in yourself.... like, supposing you notice that you have treated someone in a way that is not in line with your values. You COULD beat yourself up about it and be like "ugh you hypocrite, you SAY you have x values but then you treated these people in this other way"

Or, and I think this qualifies much better as "taking responsibility for your actions": you can go "huh. I definitely do have x values and believe people should be treated in these ways... and much of the time I am able to behave in ways that are in line with those values... and yet under these specific circumstances I was for some reason not able to do that. Let's look at those situations and people and try to find some patterns there so I can identify what types of scenarios make it hard for me to behave according to my values"

And then when you identify situations like that in the future, you can try and give yourself the time and space to really process stuff and try to remind yourself "this is a situation where behaving according to my values has been difficult in the past" which will help you be more intentional and careful in how you proceed.

Anyway. That's hard but it's a big relief to do because it really feels like being armed with magical knowledge lolol

#dysfunction junction #everyone has values and everyone behaves in ways that arent in line with those values sometimes #certain things may trigger us into a state of fight/flight and we arent able to #behave in caring and intentional ways durijg those times #so learning to identify those triggers so you can calm yourself down and make sure you respond #from a place of thoughtfulness andnnot reactivity #is really helpful. and good.#the end

a royal food tester (eats food to see if it poisoned or safe) who, after years of fearing that every meal will be their last, becomes an avatar of the end

a “witch” whose entire life was shattered and who was burned at the stake, who returns in a gout of flame as an avatar of the desolation

roving bands of trackers who slowly grew more bestial and separated from their villages, chasing ever bigger prey as avatars of the hunt

children branded as changelings who become avatars of the stranger

shunned bastard children who beguile their ways into the good graces of their rich parent’s family and gracefully claw their way to the top as avatars of the web

just… avatars in eras long passed. shaped by the world around them
