ATLA LIVE ACTION RANT/MANIFESTO
After watching it I started typing and couldn't stop. Sorry it's really really long and probably not very coherent.
(Since I wrote this, Big Joel put up a vid on his side channel talking about his thoughts on the first episode and he had a lot of points I agree with so watch that too if you’re interested) <- eta: ok jk sorry it already got taken off youtube it's only on his patreon now
I really dislike starting the story with the beginning of the war. It's like they don’t trust the audience enough to care about the protagonists without laying out all the Big Important World Context out right at the start, or they don’t trust us enough to understand non-linear storytelling. I’m trying really hard not to just hate on changes simply for being different than the show I grew up with, because god knows I have my own issues with it. There are scenes that are nearly shot-for-shot, line-for-line remakes of the original, which makes the parts they change really jarring and frustrating. I don't mind the way they combined some episodes or storylines or changed some details, like, June being the one who hits on Iroh instead of the other way around, but other changes just feel like they either miss something fundamental (to me) about the characters or the story or are just… arbitrary, which is almost worse.
One thing that REALLY frustrated me right from the start was that Aang wasn’t actually trying to run away. He goes flying to “clear his head” and gets caught in a storm coincidentally right as he says “ok Appa let’s head home”. Why? Everyone treats him like a coward anyway. Everyone is way meaner to him than in the cartoon about something that, in this version of the story, objectively was not his fault. Why? In the cartoon, he feels intense shame that he wasn’t there for everyone, even though he was twelve and about to be taken from the only person that wanted him to have a childhood, and he got so overwhelmed and scared by what the world expected from him that he tried to run away from it. In the live action, he gets to reunite with the spirit of Gyatso, who says, “you couldn’t have done anything if you had stayed. You just would have died,” (paraphrasing bc I can’t be bothered to give it more views just to get exact quotes) which is fine, I don’t think he needed a spirit world reunion with Gyatso but I can accept it. But if that’s what that gives Aang closure, what is the point of changing him to be less responsible for disappearing? In the cartoon Katara is the one who reassures Aang and helps him process his guilt, representing the people of the present who he can still help. The live action has the voice of the past, the people that he’s ‘failed’, reaching forward in time to absolve him of any sins. And remember that in this version he literally was trying to go home. It just feels like they’re trying to remove moral complexity from his character.
Less importantly (except to me maybe) I think that showing us the Air Temple pre-genocide removes impact of seeing it for the first time in the cartoon. I loved Aang hyping it up to Katara and Sokka, unwilling to believe that it could have fallen. It almost makes the viewer think maybe some of them could have survived in secret. Then, the contrast between his idyllic memories and reality start to sink in. It was an incredibly hard-hitting moment, dulled in live action by the audience having seen exactly what happened to the temple already (including an incredibly hamfisted “you can’t beat us while we have the power of the comet!” line from who I think was Sozin.) I think Momo is pretty cute though.
Another thing that pissed me off was the way they handled the Agni Kai: They combine Zuko's duels with Zhao and Ozai into one, where Zuko not only fights back against his father but gets an opportunity to deliver (presumably) a winning blow and hesitates. This choice weakens important aspects of his backstory and, to me, flattens his relationship with Ozai: 1) That he was never a prodigy firebender like Azula, feeding the inferiority complex that Ozai fostered 2) The Agni Kai was meant to be public humiliation, meant to teach Zuko ‘respect’. It was in front of hundreds of people, and it was a thirteen-year-old child against a full grown firebending master. Zuko prostrates himself and begs his father for mercy. His refusal to even fight embarrasses Ozai by exemplifying the 'weakness' Zuko's mother 'instilled' in him. In his duel with Zhao, Zuko makes a conscious choice to be merciful despite Zhao telling him to “do it” and kill him. Despite knowing how the fire nation views it as weakness, as cowardice, especially in this specific setting. It foreshadows his later choices, and shows his innate kindness. Combining the two duels doesn't allow us to see that parallel nor that growth. Reducing his act of mercy to a mere hesitation in the moment of victory, furthermore, reduces his agency.
In fact, the adaptation softens a lot of Zuko's role as an antagonist, giving most of his actually villainous actions from the cartoon to other characters. They keep him capturing Aang in the South Pole, but Zhao leads the attack on Kyoshi village, they remove the episode with the pirates (s1e9), combine aspects of episode s1e15 ‘Bato of the Water Tribe’ with ‘the Blue Spirit’ (s1e13) and ‘the winter solstice’ (s1e7/8) removing three instances of Zuko capturing or attacking Aang in favor of one with Zhao capturing and Zuko rescuing him. But I guess they add a fight in Omashu. Look, this is inevitable as a result of combining 20 episodes into 8. I don’t really mind streamlining a lot of these episodes, nor removing others (having episodes like ‘the great divide’ and ‘the fortuneteller’ only referenced as rumors Zuko hears in a bar is cute, to be honest), though the change to the Bato episode where Sokka merely has a flashback of his father implying he thinks Sokka is an incompetent warrior is a really unnecessary and bad change, to me. But they took out almost every instance of Zuko posing an actual threat to Aang and replaced it with one fight scene in Omashu. To me, what it feels like is the show runners know Zuko is going to become a Good Guy and thus they don’t want to make him act too Bad.
On the topic of Kyoshi island: giving Aang a reason to go there aside from wanting to ride the giant Koi, whatever. Removing Sokka’s chauvinism, okay, I guess. But it ends up replaced with extremely awkward flirting between him and Suki that feels motivated by nothing beyond each being the first non-relative young adult of their preferred gender either one has ever met. Whether or not you want to have Sokka start off sexist, and that could be a whole conversation on its own, him humbling himself enough to ask Suki for instruction was an important moment of growth for him that he doesn’t really have in this version. And they don’t even put Sokka in the dress and makeup!!! BOO! Also minor moment but I think it’s also sus for the show to have Suki remove her makeup as soon as it’s time for her to be a love interest and then just not wear it again. BOO!! She looked really cool though. It’s not like I think her first appearance in the cartoon is full of depth or whatever, and I think the cartoon turned her into a cardboard cutout as soon as she became a love interest, but it’s like the live action clipped through a wall straight to my least favorite parts of s3 Suki. It’s just disappointing. I also don’t like Aang being able to just talk to Kyoshi and his other past lives so easily but that might just be my cartoon-purist talking.
I didn’t mind putting Jet and Teo into Omashu, even though I think Danny Pudi’s ‘I had no choice’ justification for working for the Fire Nation holds up less well when he’s in a position of privilege in an Earth Kingdom stronghold as opposed to protecting a community of refugees in an isolated air temple. I don’t think they needed to add the Cave of Lovers plot from season 2 into the mix though. Not only that, but to rework that plotline so that 1) Aang isn’t even there, 2) it’s Sokka’s idea to put out their lights and follow the crystals, 3) that’s not actually The Solution 4) badgermoles can sense…. Emotions???????? Sorry that’s so fucking stupid it makes me angry. They include the legend where Oma and Shu learned earthbending from the badgermoles, so why would these giant creatures have learned to sense human emotion instead of the pre-existing explanation from the cartoon: sensing the world through the earth. You know, the thing that connects them to Toph’s earthbending. I guess setting up stuff as far away as… next season… isn’t important. They used the stuff from the season 2 episode “the swamp” for aspects of the winter solstice plot anyway, which is where Aang originally had a vision of Toph and thus was able to identify her as an earthbender in spite of her appearance. I guess they can come up with something else, but it’s just a decision that feels arbitrary. Sokka could have had his flashback without the spirit vision, but since this is before he meets and loses Yue they needed something, I guess. At this point I’m describing these changes not necessarily because I think they’re inherently bad but because I want to describe how fragile this jenga tower is getting, and how unnecessary they feel.
Ultimately it’s like… the things they’re the most faithful to are all the most surface-level easter egg references, while missing or changing the actual soul of the source material. Gran Gran gives the opening monologue word-for-word because Fans Will Get It. They include Bumi’s rock candy trick and lettuce leaf joke but make him resentful and angry at Aang for no reason I can understand. Sokka isn’t sexist anymore, he just has issues where his dad apparently thinks he ‘shouldn’t have lives in his hands’. Ozai is… wait- is he tearing up while he scars Zuko’s face?
I know we all love Daniel Dae Kim but we did not need Ozai so much this season, let alone Azula, let alone Mai and Ty Lee. We especially didn’t need a scene where Ozai praises Zuko to Azula while belittling her. For the record, because people defending this scene seem to think the issue is that the rest of us fail to understand that Ozai is playing his children against each other: That is not the issue. It’s that he did not play his children against each other in this specific way. He uses Azula to show Zuko how much he fails to measure up and threaten his position as heir, and he uses the example of Zuko’s failure to keep Azula in line. If she’s good enough and Zuko is bad enough maybe she’ll become heir. After all, that’s what happened to Ozai and Iroh. They are allowed to change this dynamic in adaptation but personally I think it’s a change for the worse, and the shot of tears in his eyes as he abuses his son lends credibility to an interpretation that maybe he does want Zuko to succeed. Lol. The cartoon focuses on Iroh’s reaction, his inability to watch, instead of Ozai’s… emotional conflict? Or whatever.
Katara and Sokka getting stuck in the spirit world as a replacement for their fever in The Blue Spirit is fine, I think condensing that plot and the winter solstice works decently. It’s fine that they changed Aang’s motivation for finding Roku to be getting info on how to save his friends instead of getting crucial info about Sozin’s Comet. After all, they clumsily introduced that in episode 1. It’s honestly fine (Read with as much cope in my voice as you want.) Combining that with Zuko’s half of The Storm is also…. Okay, even if I’ve already described why I don’t like how they adapted Zuko’s backstory. What frustrates me is that The Storm parallels Aang and Zuko’s backstories in a way that works really well with the events in The Blue Spirit. In fact, they’re back-to-back episodes. But the live action has moved Aang’s backstory to the beginning of the first episode. So instead of getting to see how they’re both constrained by the roles and times they were born into, and how heavily others’ expectations weigh on both of them, we have to have Aang explicitly spell it out for us. Rewatching these two episodes of the cartoon I was just really struck by how efficient the storytelling is. All Aang has to say after he’s saved Zuko is that he misses his friend from the Fire Nation, and that he wonders if he and Zuko could have been friends if they’d been born into a different time. All Zuko has to do is attack him in response. Because we’ve just seen why they can’t be friends in this time, in this world. The live action has to create some plot point about Aang having stolen Zuko’s diary, and Zuko having researched Airbender culture or something. They bond a little bit over brushes before Aang goes like ‘why don’t you turn against your family?’ The conversation (before that part) is cute, just like, not a good replacement for trusting the audience.
I guess once we’ve gotten this far it doesn’t matter much that Katara and Sokka have been captured by Koh, because of course they were. Yeah, they changed how it works, yeah, now he steals your face once you’ve succumbed to despair or something. Whatever. At this point it feels like nitpicking to point out that what made Koh so scary was that he would steal your face if you showed him any emotion at all. Who cares anymore.
^ok I wrote most of that before having seen the last two episodes, which cover the last three episodes of the first season of the cartoon. Dude it got even worse somehow. It’s been a couple days and my friends and I rewatched all of s1 of the original show in the meantime.
First of all, the changes to the dynamic between Hahn, Sokka, and Yue were completely inexplicable to me. Yue gets nominally ‘empowered’ in the sense that she’s no longer trapped in an arranged marriage to a total shithead, but at the same time they made Hahn seem like a… genuinely good guy? He’s humble, asks Sokka for his expertise, and nobly accepts that Yue broke up with him. When asked about it, Yue says ‘he’s great, he’s just not the guy of my dreams’, before kissing Sokka. (They also reveal that she was the sexy fox spirit that flirted with Sokka in the spirit world —I didn’t mention it before because I didn’t think it mattered at the time— so I guess we are meant to believe that Sokka is the boy of her dreams. Which we know from these two and a half conversations that manage to be way less cute than the awkward/shy flirting from the original show.) Even if they wanted to completely change Hahn’s character, Yue’s conflict in the original show was between her heart and what she saw as her responsibility to her people. They could just as easily have kept that element: that she isn’t in love with Hahn, but that for Political Reasons can’t just break things off. That’s way more interesting! But I do love a forbidden romance, so maybe that’s just me. The adaptation does say that they were at one point betrothed, which raises more questions than it answers. If both of their parents were anticipating this marriage so much that they set it up years in advance, why were they okay with her just breaking things off because she didn’t like him like that? Are arranged marriages in the Northern Water Tribe (I’m so sorry I forgot the name they gave it in this adaptation) purely meant to be love matches? There’s no financial or political element at all? Even for a princess? Whatever. Hahn still dies, this time it’s just offscreen. This time I’m actually a little sad for him, if just for his wasted potential.
They actually take out the engagement necklace stuff altogether, including the history between Pakku and Katara’s grandma, and the story of how and why she fled. I don’t really know why but maybe they thought “you lost the so-called love of your life to backward practices” was a weak reason to change his mind. So instead they have it that he doesn’t change his mind but it turns out Katara doesn’t need a master anyway because she’s already good enough to be a master! Despite not having been able to waterbend ‘more than a thimbleful’ before meeting Aang, and us not really getting to see her train at all. Gran Gran gave her the waterbending scroll she stole from the pirates in the cartoon, so I guess we can assume that contained everything you’d ever need to know. She loses the fight but wins the hearts and minds of the people. The women of the tribe support her when she goes against Pakku and go “we want to fight too!” Oh, did I mention this is all after they realize the Fire Navy is at their doorstep, so it’s less a fight about the right to learn waterbending than about the right to fight in war. And then again the issue of Katara needing to learn from Pakku is sidestepped by her magically being good enough now on her own. I don’t actually mind the change to include other women from the North standing up against sexism but to be honest I don’t understand taking out the betrothal stuff. It was a deliberate parallel in the cartoon- women trapped in loveless arranged marriages and also forbidden from learning any waterbending aside from healing. But whatever, it’s a choice. I can live with it.
What I don’t like is the way they’ve undermined Katara’s journey in season 1. Aang teaches Katara how to waterbend at first, and she also doesn’t learn to heal on her own before an elder shows her how to do it. In the cartoon, she’s been trying and figuring things out on her own all her life. Her hunger to find someone to teach her is a major motivator for why she wants to go to the North Pole. We see her struggle, get intensely frustrated and jealous that Aang picks up waterbending more naturally than she does, and work really hard at it. Her dedication and hard work are what Pakku eventually praises about her when he teaches her. He compares her to Aang, who is naturally talented but distracted. This is after an indeterminate amount of time, but whatever, condensed timeline, 8 episodes, whatever. We don’t even see Aang waterbend at all this season, which is kind of wild to me. I guess if you take out the Summer Solstice Comet deadline to master all four elements (which they did) Aang doesn’t really need to rush. Instead they kind of just have Aang have a thing of like “I have my friends to help me” which is….. ok….. Oh wait, is this why they don’t care that much about foreshadowing Toph? Are they just not gonna bother having Aang learn the elements and just have her show up and join them for whatever reason? Is that why they just totally removed ‘The Deserter’? Wait sorry, I’m assuming they’re planning that far in advance at all, my bad.
Okay also like I have to talk about this because it bothers me so much. Zhao was handled so badly. Whatever, have a Fire sage just give him the moon/ocean spirit exposition in a flashback instead of the way it unfolded in the cartoon (I guess we’re already not bothering to set up the great library since the gaang already met wan shi tong, I guess that’s… fine… Appa can get captured a different way, if they’re even going to bother with that plotline in season 2. If they’re even going to do a season 2.) Sure, the moon and ocean spirits are only in the physical realm and vulnerable for ‘only one night’ now as opposed to permanently. Zhao knows this but not that they’re fish. Okay. Whatever. Blah blah blah. Those are personal nitpicks. But what really gets me is that in the end, Iroh and Zuko kill Zhao. Or rather, Zuko doesn’t finish him off, Zhao tries to attack when his back is turned, and Iroh finishes him off (similar to the way their Agni Kai in the cartoon plays out.) In the cartoon, Zhao and Zuko are fighting, Aang-as-Ocean-Spirit grabs Zhao, and Zuko reaches out to try and help Zhao, which Zhao refuses. He chooses to meet his fate at the hands of the spirits he provoked rather than swallow his pride. This is such a good conclusion to Zhao’s character! The live action also fails to set Zhao up as a formidable firebender, which is also not strictly necessary but I think complements other elements of his character well. His first episode in the cartoon includes the Agni Kai between him and Zuko, establishing Zhao both as a firebending master and as someone who values his ambition and pride above all else. In s1e16, ‘the deserter’ we see him as the embodiment of fire’s destructive hunger: he is baited into destroying his own ships in his desire to “win” his fight with Aang. He gloats of how his siege of the North Pole will earn him a place in the history books, and to win he is willing to kill the moon, against Iroh’s exhortations. In the live action, we get a weird revelation that he was working with Azula, and she was the mastermind behind a lot of his plans? Huh? He also “reveals” that Ozai was only ever using Zuko to “motivate his sister”, which is both incredibly heavy-handed and completely redundant. I guess I should mention that the finale has a couple scenes thrown in where Azula is doing firebending training to pass some kind of arbitrary Test Ozai has set for her, while Mai and Ty Lee watch and tell her that her dad is like, being way too hard on her and she knows he’s manipulating her right? Thanks girls!
Anyway, I guess since the live-action completely removed the golden child/failure dynamic between Azula and Zuko we needed something to replace it. The “my father always said Azula was born lucky. He said I was lucky to be born” line summed up that relationship dynamic nicely. Oh well, who needs it. Instead Zuko is good enough to have beaten Ozai in a duel at 13, but Ozai decided he was weak for hesitating. Meanwhile Azula is struggling to meet his expectations. He banished his heir on a mission that, for the last hundred years, was considered a complete dead-end, so that he could, uhhhhh, Motivate her when he miraculously started succeeding. Masterful gambit, sir. Okay sorry to harp on that again. Back to Zhao. Actually, what else is there to say. He has a couple funny lines but he’s just not the same guy at all on either a superficial or deeper level. It’s so disappointing. It’s also just a really weak choice to make Iroh and Zuko responsible for his death. Maybe they couldn’t figure out how to make the special effects look good when the ocean spirit picked him up. It just misses the point of Zhao’s ultimate tragedy, to me. The man so lacking in self-control, so ambitious, so assured in his own superiority, that he saw the spirits themselves as his prey. To be destroyed by the forces he tried to destroy is so poetic! Instead let’s water down Zuko’s mercy and Iroh’s pacifism.
This is all I can remember at this point aside from nitpicks. Do I think the Koh vs Kuruk backstory needed to be spelled out like that? No. Did we need to almost have Momo DIE to get Sokka and Yue to the oasis? Not really. I don’t think the way Zhao “assassinated” Zuko in the live action made as much sense, but we took out the pirates so oh well.
When you get to a certain point I guess the question becomes ‘how much can you change in an adaptation and still call it an adaptation’. What do adaptations owe to their source material? Where does the spirit of a story reside? If the same plot beats happen, does it matter if characters are different? If the characters are faithful, does it matter if events are moved around? If the destination is the same, how much does it matter how you get there? What do I personally want to see in a ‘live-action’ adaptation of Avatar, this show that I loved so much growing up? Well, assuming that “don’t make one” isn’t a possibility, I would have preferred they follow more in One Piece’s footsteps. That adaptation wasn’t perfect either, and it condensed around 100 chapters of manga into 8 hours, but it really felt like it got the characters right. Avatar had a tough job too, but it condensed 7 hours 40 minutes of cartoon into 8 hours of- wait. No. Well at least we got the cabbage merchant.

ATLA Live Action Stream of Consciousness (Episode 1, Part 3).
How does Gran Gran know all of this (how does she know that Aang is the avatar?)
I AM SORRY ANIMATED KATARA WOULD NOT GO HIDE BECAUSE SOKKA TOLD HER TO! Yeah character reinterpretation is a thing but no.
Okay Katara’s monologue to Sokka I see her character there she is! And confirmed the problem was the directing because Kiawentiio acted the hell out of that. Now do more of it! I have also seen her energy in interviews and I know she can bring the power if they just…let her.
“Lord of snow and ice” lmao
Zuko continues to be a reckless idiot that’s good (don’t fall for it-proceeds to fall for it)
I wonder if the substitution of “glory” for “honor” has any deeper connotations because those words don’t mean the same thing.
I know the Water Tribe being SO unprepared for war was a key point in the original but I did like the moment with the village kids I thought it was sweet.
Okay Zuko is the one instance so far where I liked someone saying “burn it all down” because I’ve seen all the comments about him being soft and this reminded me that no, he’s still a bad guy for now.
Who told Kiawentiio to stop moving the second Ian Ousley touched her? That struggle (when she’s trying to stop Aang from turning himself in) doesn’t look realistic at all I’ve seen better stage directions in my high school theater productions. Somebody hire new directors.
I know the Aang and Iroh scene is fanservice and I don’t care.
This Iroh is more overtly conflict averse and I like that we may be exploring that some more. I love Iroh but I’m also glad for the chance to get to see some of his flaws.
The transition onto the Water Siblings flying on Appa was awesome and very reminiscent of the cartoon. I don’t personally need this to resemble the cartoon too much in terms of energy because I can tell it’s so different, but those moments are nice.
God Zuko’s room looks like an emo theater kid’s room too.
He has a fucking detective wall it’s my murder mystery fanfic! Wish fulfillment! (Also self plug here’s the only fanfic I’ve ever finished I’m fond of it and you should check it out).
There’s some good old Zuko yelling.
Katara waterbending moment! Nice!
How are there 15 minutes left in the episode?
They’re fitting…another episode in here? Okay.
I’ve seen people say that it doesn’t make sense to have Aang go into the Avatar State when he sees Gyatso’s skeleton since he already knew about the genocide. I think it passes since seeing something is different than hearing about it. I do, however, think that we didn’t need to see the genocide, have Gran Gran tell Aang about the genocide, and see Aang react to Gyatso’s skeleton. One of those (probably the middle one) could have easily been removed to make time for some more character moments or something.
I miss Katara pulling Aang out of the Avatar state. The vision is nice but having it be Katara emphasized the power of friendship and family which they literally did…so why couldn’t they do it in a way that made Katara more useful? Because book 1 Katara already veers in the damsel in distress direction (ish-more so than in later books) without them taking away when she does important things. I did love the Katara/Aang hug though.
THE TRANSITION TO ZUKO WHEN AANG WAS LIKE “THIS WAS MY HOME AND NOW IT’S GONE” NARRATIVE FOILS MY BELOVED!

Have you ever noticed how Zutara shippers will praise Zuko for all the same traits they criticize in Aang? Like the possessive behavior, expecting her to follow his culture, leave her home behind to live with him, be submissive to him, etc. etc. are all wildly common tropes in the Zutara fandom despite the same people criticizing the same narratives surrounding canon kataang. Like I’m sorry but it couldn’t be more obvious most of y’all are emotionally immature white chicks who fetishize abusive men (not that Zuko is canonically abusive but these people sure asf portray him that way). Stop projecting on Katara, it’s embarrassing and quite frankly insulting to drag a powerful indigenous female character down to your level
LMAO the last part iktr. it actually annoys me the amount of art there is of her in red and then they want her to live in a palace with the same amount (or usually more 😃) of children that she has with aang. mind you the same people call canon katara a baby maker for having 3 kids.
also the way people (including some canon shippers) decided katara was a housewife because she wasn’t in a flashback with her husband and not that she was at work idk healing or teaching? like since when do healers heal in their bedroom especially in atla (yagoda comes to mind)? but these same people can give you a list of “important” things the firelady supposedly does which is not supported by the canon at all. so funny how their imagination runs wild depending on who katara is and isn’t with.
and for the first part, lol zuko literally threw a guy into a vase for talking to mai while aang makes faces when he gets jealous. plus judging from EIP katara could put him in his place if he did anything that stupid again (even tho we already see he has learnt from that in the N&S comic 🤧)

I think where people get caught up on the healing/blood bending dichotomy is that we see healing with water bending as taking a glob of water and moving it over the skin until the burn goes away, using it to direct energy in the body, while they think of blood bending as some thing more internal somehow and I’m sure someone would think it’s easier to directly bend the blood and force it to clot then to take a glob of water and press it against the wound and somehow make the blood stop… I think it would’ve been neat if we had more time devoted to katara getting instruction in the art of healing, to learn some more technical details about it, because people really seem to ignore healing as an art form and then try to reinvent it through blood bending, when in reality it’s just forcing the water in someone’s body to move around thus forcing the body to move.
Maybe Aang should have gotten some time to learn healing while Katara was mastering more advanced forms, but idk. Sorry this is a bit rambly.
we see some of how healing works when katara enter's yugoda's classroom. once you realize that healing isn't just about treating surface wounds but also manipulating chi paths in the body, it becomes a lot clearer that healers are already using the techniques people think katara "banned" when she said no one should bloodbend.
Tumblr media
katara: it's wrong to violate someone’s autonomy in this way that is akin to rape or torture
fans for some reason: omg she hates surgeons!!!!!!
also yes i definitely agree that it was weird for aang to never express interest in learning healing. i've said it before but i can't find where so i'll just say it again now. healing is one of the coolest powers ever and i don't understand why anyone with the potential to do it wouldn't want to do it?? it's not that aang believes in the gendered binary between healing and fighting that the northern water tribe does, so i can only chalk it up to his naivete, and imagine that as he gets older he learns healing from katara, as anyone with a shred of common sense would.
Hot take: Hama wasnt “right” exactly but she shouldnt be imprisoned again. She should be home with her people. She should be with Kanna , not living her twilight years in a firenation prisoncell. She should be pardoned or some shit idk. If we take her age and The conditions of the other victims in her flashback to the logical conclusion , she is likely the sole survivor of a concentration camp for the SWT benders. Its fucking abysmal. IDK what it would take but its so cruel her current status.
yeah i've said this before too. i like to think that instead of being reimprisoned or executed she manages to escape, and after the war katara finds her and sends her to the south pole to live out her final years there.
I like the great divide because I like the sibling arguing part over something that is kind of ridiculous, Katara and Saka are not part of these groups and neither has any particular reason to believe one over the other but they both pick a side and go whole hog, and as someone with a sibling with about the same age gap as those two that felt pretty realistic.
i mean katara and sokka fight over trivial shit all the time, that much is true, but the argument itself makes no sense. not only would katara not care about getting rained on, seeing as she is a literal waterbender, but the zhangs and the gan jins have the stupidest fucking "conflict" like this show that is otherwise wonderfully nuanced presents the most simplistic two dimensional plotline ever, and also expects us to believe in the process that katara is prim and proper and prepared and sokka is messy and spontaneous or whatever not only is that blatantly untrue it's just straight up bad writing it's a bad episode and you guys need to stop trying to justify it. that said aang's first ever conflict resolution as the avatar being a straight up lie is pretty funny.
Sorry for spaming ur inbox i am full of thoughts atm
i can see that

Sapphics: I want an enemies to lovers arc
Sapphics when the characters act like enemies: no not like that!
Like seriously, the hells wrong with some of y’all? Catradora were literally at war with one another and with the current power dynamics in the show Catra couldn’t just drop whatever she was doing and play for the other team. Especially once s3 happens and Shadow Weaver ends up in Brightmoon. How do I know this? Cause we already got our answer once she popped back up in s5. The only plus side would be Catra seeing through the bs that was Glimmers behavior in s4 (speaking of which, “Glimmradora was healthier” people need to get off your high horse cause she treated Adora JUST as poorly in s4 basically saying “hey you’re only here cause you’re sometimes useful to us” ok I can’t start talking about this cause I’ll get sidetracked by getting angry. Moving on)
And it’s outright boggling to me that sapphics will cry out “we want enemies to lovers” until they ACT like Actual Enemies. Cause the truth is you don’t want enemies, you never did. And the reblogs on my last post only prove my point on the matter cause while Amity and the others of the Boiling Isles grew up under strickt rule by Belos and their parents it wasn’t War. That’s what we gotta keep in mind here. Catra and Adora grew up as child soldiers in an army however Adoras mind want fully loyal so when she saw what the Horde was doing and needed to ditch her ideologies she abandoned them. However, Catra saw that as a “Im leaving because of you” kinda deal no matter how the latter claimed the opposite.
Another thing i find Absolutely Hysterical is that y’all will bash Catra then immediately turn around and praise Zuko’s character even though they had practically the same character arc “Zuko didn’t do things as bad” eh did we Forget he helped Azula take over the Earth kingdom at the end of s2 and Aang would have died if it weren’t for Katara’s magic water (plus Several other things?all I’m saying is that Y’all don’t remember pre-redemption Zuko as well as ya think ya do) but I’m getting sidetracked here. Im probably gonna talk more about this comparison later hell I might go rewatch ATLA and take notes on this.
If you don’t like “enemies to lovers” Whatever. Don’t ship it. I honestly don’t care it’s Your shipping preferences. But for gods sake don’t get pissy when enemies act like enemies cause it’s exhausting for those of us who do enjoy it watching your little screaming matches while trying to find content. 🤦‍♀️
(Im probably gonna also bring up Caitvi at some point cause even they don’t truly fall into enemies to lovers but that’s for another time)
(And one more thing: a lot of people claim Glimmers “I love you” came out of nowhere but it was in very much the same vein as Catra’s “Im sorry for everything” as in “I may never see you again, so make this last meeting count”. Yk? Ok NOW I’m done)

10 Fandoms, 10 Characters, 10 People
Thanks for the tag @jaywalkers <3. I love your list of characters, you’ve got great taste : )
Rules: name 10 of your favourite characters from 10 different fandoms, then tag 10 people to do the same
1) Andrew Minyard from All For the Game
My blorbo of all time probably. No character has given me brainrot and writing inspiration the way he does and likely no character ever will. This post sums up his appeal perfectly
2) Lan Wangji from Mo Dao Zu Shi
My newest blorbo from my most recently joined fandom. What can I say, I’m a sucker for incredibly queer competent stoic prob neurodivergent men that are absolutely insane about one person. When I watch the MDZS donghua, I literally have to pause every time he comes on the screen just so I can stare at him a bit, so you could say I’m a bit obsessed
3) Kim Theerapanyakul from KinnPorsche
He’s this weird little guy that is simultaneously the most competent character in the show and the biggest cringe-fail loser. He looks so suave and cool on the surface with his whole Taylor Swift by day mafia prince detective by night thing but then you realize he’s actually a complete nerd with a whole ass literal murder conspiracy board hidden behind a giant selfie portrait of himself and I love him so much (also he’s played by Jeff Satur, who makes my aesthetic attraction senses go haywire, but that’s neither here nor there)
4) Kyuzo from Samurai 7
My 1st fictional crush and prob my earliest blorbo. My type in favorite fictional male character (hypercompetent stoic character that doesn’t talk much with bonus points for iconic hair) can 100% be attributed to him. His story was the earliest villain redemption arc I can remember encountering in media (this was the 1st anime I ever watched so I was like 4 or 5 when I 1st saw this guy) and so for me I always think of him when I see people talking about iconic redemption arcs (sorry Zuko)
5) Midorima Shintarou from Kuroko no Basket
At the peak of my high school sports anime phase, this guy was my favorite. He’s tall, he’s green, he’s an anime glasses character™️, he’s tsundere, he’s prissy, he’s weird af, he’s got one of the most bonkers basketball skills ever, and he’s even an astrology girlie. What’s not to love
6) Merlin from BBC Merlin
BBC Merlin is the fandom that sucked me in at a time where I thought I was growing out of fandom and fanfic (spoiler alert: I very much was not) and it’s responsible for completely changing my relationship with fandom into something much more intense than it was previously. And it’s all thanks to this funky skinny wizard man who for whatever reason captivated me enough that I read hundreds of thousands of fan-created words about him for nearly a year and a half
7) Jasnah Kholin from The Stormlight Archive
She’s one of the rare canonically asexual female characters, and she’s even from a major fantasy book series too! I fixated on this character long before I knew I was ace (though perhaps that should’ve been a clue lol), mostly because I just thought she was so cool and I found her whole “why would I want a relationship when I’m busy with all this shit to study” attitude so relatable
8) Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender
I wanted to be her so badly when I was a kid y’all have no idea. She just made such an impression on me because she’s so cool and so strong but also unapologetically and obviously feminine and that really struck a chord with young me and is prob the reason why I didn’t really have a “not like the other girls” phase cuz she was revolutionary for little me’s idea of how a “girl” can be. To this day she is the character that to me has the coolest powers ever
9) Cassandra of Troy from Greek Mythology
It’s prob weird to include her but I was a real greek mythology girlie (in that I was into it before Percy Jackson came out) and Cassandra has always my favorite. The tragedy of her story has always been very appealing to me and upsettingly relatable in a lot of ways
10) Kym Ladell from Purple Hyacinth
Ms. Kym one of those characters that’s ostensibly the comedic relief except nope she’s hiding oceans of pain under her smile. She’s got trauma and a tragic backstory that she hides from the rest of the main characters in one of the strongest “this is fine” performances you’ve ever seen

Hi! Sorry I took so long to share. This is the picture from season 4:
https://www.instagram.com/p/C2zsCNAr8tT/?igsh=MTNrajRhM3R3aXM4dg==
I’m not sure if links work through asks but the official account (umbrellaacad) posted it on instagram. I don’t think having an account is necessary to be able to see it.
Tumblr media
It worked, thanks, friend!!!
Hm. Hmmm. Yeah that...is a thing that they posted. Huh. lol.
I mean. This will seem shallow, but Klaus's appearance has always seemed intentionally tied to his inner emotional and psychological (and yes, spiritual) journey--his tattoos alone attest to that--so I think I'm particularly critical of what doesn't seem aligned to his character development visually. That said, I can see how he'd maybe revert to a point in his life when he chopped off and straightened his BEAUTIFUL CURLY hair ( =_=;;;; lol) since the excruciating journey he just embarked upon in order to START seeing himself as worth more than the mastery of his powers ...has kind of been...nullified lol by losing them (I get it, it's a Gerard Way esque thing to be totally nihilistic). Klaus may feel as if he can go back to his younger years (the tennish years preceding the start of Season One) and relive them totally detoxed, harm to his brain and organs also reset, sober. And that's valid, plus I know Klaus has a penchant for going through phases to distract himself from his real problems.
Which is why I'm So Tired™ when I see the nitrile gloves. They have to be in a "still-no-powers" timeline in this shot because Luther is still not fused with ape DNA. I am guessing this is going to be some kind of dumbass ableist gag (lbr, TUA has never cared about stepping right in it when it comes to ableist tropes) a la Adrian Monk and "hoho haha, compounded, severe and complex trauma gave him germaphobic OCD!" (in Klaus's case, because he now has remembered all the murder-experiments Reg did on him in the crypt, and he's no longer immortal, so that makes him hyper-aware of anything that could kill him without his safety net). On the one hand, if this is true I'm happy he has something to lose and therefore cares about how to spend his limited remaining days. On the other hand, no, I don't want Klaus to die, I want him to still have his powers but also CHOOSE to do the work of slowly recognizing he doesn't need them to be worthy of unconditional love.
Is the potential germaphobia good writing? Probably, in many respects.
Is it what I want, because I'm a soft-touch who just wants to see her favs heal because it gives her comfort? Nah.
Is reducing Klaus and his character development to a punchline what I want? God no. I'm so tired of it. I don't care how satirical the show is. Pick on someone else, lmao. I know he's the fandom fav which translates somehow into making him the target for the worst disastrous twists, but LET THE DUMB GAY DANDELION REST.
I saw someone write an alternate theory which I now have forgotten but I KNOW I reblogged it so please feel free to go digging in my reblogs.
Other thoughts: You can tell by the way he's the only one looking a different direction, Five is still the real leader, and I'm glad Luther gave up on that, bc he's Ferdinand the Bull and it doesn't suit him to be all stressed out and bossy. He picks up siblings and throws them down stairs or strangles them when he's overwhelmed, haha DDDDD: Anyway, poor Fivey never wears civilian clothes, except that One Time when he and Klaus went looking for Klaus's birthmother (they are good for each other and need to just like...get in a fucking car and leave again. LOL).
Ben and Viktor look hot but also confused which, fair, especially in Ben's case since he's a Sparrow and a moody Edgelord who needs hugs, lol. And possibly a more dangerous enemy than Reginald, which I frankly hope brings out Klaus's "I'm a big harmless sweetheart who finally snapped a la Katara bloodbending in Avatar" moment. I Need It. Literally every other sibling has had the chance at a minor nervous breakdown, come on. Let Klaus not be okay and acknowldge it to anyone who'll listen! And yeah I know his siblings all love him, I've never disputed that once. Sometimes love ain't enough, and needs to pair up with respect. Sad but realistic truth.
Finally, I wanna know if Allison has reconciled with the family and if so, how. She is fascinating and I think her villain era in s3 was 100 percent in alignment with her character development and her lifelong issues with consent (also Reginald's fault!)
This all came out spicier than I meant LOL. Im not snarking at you, anon, I swear. Thanks for sharing <3 I just expect VERY little out of Season 4. Hopefully I'll be wrong! I was similarly wrong with the Loki series, which gsve me a perfect final-arc scenario for my favorite character of all time.

-Azula either poisoning or chest wound
-Zuko. Take a guess lolol face hurtie
-The Blue Spirit is Zuko but like. Splitting off a part of himself (before Ozai bound them) so it acts as a separate being, but like, hivemind sorta thing. Thats also why he can resist more

-Aang when rescued from Pohai realises its a spirit. Also goes. Hmmm. ur familiar
-The cover story for Azula is Zuko is that they are children of a concubine

-He is VERY weird .
-Cause his soul is split he is able to be sorta like a person cause not full Ozai control
-But like. Still uncanny valley
-Azula is just. Inhuman. What Ozai thinks is ‘perfect heir’
-Zuko patrols border, hears of Avatar INSTANT control mode
-They are both notorious for single minded focus (control….)
-Zuko catches up to them when they are leaving the South Pole
-Fires at them
-THey run
-Earth Kingdom random port
-”AG SCARY FACE GUY IS BACK”
-”Sokka! That’s rude we can’t call him that :(“
-Sorry Aang let me just have a look through my nice names list for people who ARE TRYING TO KILL US!”
-This happens a few times
-”How does this guy keep finding us?”
-This guy is a spirit and avatar is like, spirit hotspot. Spirit GPS auto defaults to him
-Aangs spiritual energy
-Kyoshi Island
-Sokka: Wow you guys are so good you could beat like everything ever
-Suki: HA I dont even we could defeat the Blue Spirit
-Kyoshi island gets too laser focused on Aang. Kung Fu-ed by Suki
-Omashu King Bumi goes…Zuko? Now thats a weird guy
-Literally like. Out of no where
-Apparently the children of the firelord run cold to the touch…But thats just a rumour tehe xD
-Meet Jet
-Hear of Blue Spirit
-Sokka goes…OKAY WHO IS THIS GUY??
-Later Sokka says that this super awesome sword guy should really help them
-Katara goes Nah we are not chasing legends
-WHy not we already have one? You just want to stay with Jet dontcha??
-Aang fades into memory
-Pohai stronghold goes same except he ~somehow~ deflects the arrow
-Hes a spirit . it goes through him
-Scene where Aang goes bro theres something funky about that guy
-What guy?
-The Blue Spirit.
-HES REAL??
Jeong Jeong and stuff
-Is there any other deserters?
-No…not really. Theres other rebels. I’m sure you’ve heard of the Blue Spirit
-The man is an invaluable source of information.
-He speaks??? (aang)
-Oh Agni no. I doubt anyone has ever heard a word from him
-He throws information packets at us
-Mainly about troop movements but it still counts
-We dont know how he finds us though
-^^Spirit powers?? Tracking their inner flame?
-In the siege of the North Zuko tries to stop Zhao.
-”Every life has an inner flame. Even spirits”
-The fish lives because Zuko fuels their inner flame
-Misunderstanding. RIP he in the snow (Fish lives)
-Also Zuko Katara one sided fight scene (he hold the inner flame sorta near the oasis)
-Aang and Katara there cause Aang ran off like I FEEL SPIRIT POWERS
-She followed cause duh
-Yue and Sokka left alone in oasis
-Zhao whoops both of them
-’Kills’ fish
-Iroh whips him out of there
-Real gentle with fish
-Seals wound with fire (cauterised) and lowers back into water
-Pray
-Glow from water
-Fish lives Yue goes psycho spirit mode (also glowing)
-Aang arrives because brooo what is the freaky energy
-its yue
-The water mimics the knives
-Going through the soldiers who run or fights chests and then dragging them into the sea
-3 go for Zhao and pull him in all different directions
-After
-Yue. What was that
-I..I don’t know. But..I think the spirits are angry, very angry about something. I was just a release.
-Aang thoughts
-I…we need to…
-Katara goes EARTHBENDING. WE SHOULD DO THAT WHAT DO YOU THINK AANG
-That…Yeah! Yeah, let’s go do that
-have supply please
-Alright. Lets hope that we find an Earthbending teacher easier.

Chapter 13 of “Book 1: Beautiful Ghosts” is up now!!!
Summary: Aang tries to learn firebending to disastrous results
Here’s an excerpt:
Upon seeing his appearance outside of the cottage, Aang leaps up and approaches him with an eager demeanor. “What happened? Can I see Jeong Jeong now?,” the airbender asks excitedly. Looking downcast, Chey replies, “He won't see you. I’m very sorry, Avatar, but he wants you to leave immediately”. Aang’s smile falls, his face looking shocked. “What? Why won't he see me?,” he questions. “He says you're not ready. Says you haven't mastered waterbending and earthbending yet,” the former captain replies. Katara walks over to the two, telling Aang, “he does kind of have a point”. Undeterred, Aang declares, “I’m going in anyway!” before storming his way inside the cabin.
Katara tries to follow him in, but Chey blocks her path. “Don’t. Perhaps the Avatar might be able to persuade him,” he gives her a hopeful smile. Taking a deep breath, she takes a seat on a log, looking into her own reflection in the swampy waters. She feels Chey sit next to her with an empathetic smile. “Copper piece for your thoughts?,” he asks. Not really knowing how to take that offer, she decides to ask him something that had been on her mind for a while. “Chey, you said you were once a top captain for the Fire Navy. So, what was it like, y’know, doing what you were doing?,” she inquires, curiously. Chey replies, “To be honest, it felt great in the moment. The Fire Nation was all I knew. I grew up dreaming of being a Fire Navy Captain. But, once the high settled in, I don’t know, I guess it just wasn’t what I had once believed it to be. I discovered a lot of things that contradicted what I had always been taught. Thr last war meeting I had attended was the last straw. After that, I couldn’t in good faith support my country as it is currently run”. As the waterbender looks at the man through the reflection in the water, it began to feel as if the image of everyone in the Fire Nation she had held onto for so long, the image of power-hungry elites in fine robes getting their satisfaction from hurting those they feel are inferior to them, was finally beginning to crack. “Do you still love the Fire Nation?,” she asks. “Of course. I love my country. I always will. That’s why I left. I knew that by supporting the current regime, I would be aiding in its destruction. I needed to leave so that I can be part of restoring balance to the world, so that way, once the Fire Lord finally falls, we can start restoring it back to its true honor and glory by helping others,” he answers with an optimistic smile.
Katara thought about how she had previously thought of the Fire Nation, as well as its people. How even those at the very top had good hearts and just wanted what they believed was best for their homeland. Those thoughts then began to gravitate to thoughts of Zuko. Could he be in a similar position? Is that even possible? The waterbender shakes those thoughts away. Zuko is the crowned prince. The next in line to the Fire Nation throne. The fate of his whole identity literally depends on the Fire Nation winning the war. There’s no way he could just be blind to the reality of how much hurt the nation has caused the rest of the world. Or is there?
“It’s getting late. I should probably get some rest, anyway. Thanks for the talk,” the waterbender nervously stammers as she stands up and walks over to Appa, not even waiting to hear Chey’s response.
These thoughts and feelings for Zuko better stop by morning

I am so confused by people who seem upset at the Netflix Avatar the Last Air Bender show coming out. I’ve seen comments saying the characters were white washed 😳. I’m sorry…did yall not watch the movie?
THIS is who played Katara in the movie.
Tumblr media
And THIS is who played Sokka
Tumblr media
And then we have the kid that played Aang, also a white boy. But honestly, M Night’s casting seems to be more from the Brandy Cinderella page where race didn’t really matter…in a sense. Cause think about it, Dev Patel played Zuko and he’s Indian. The man who played Uncle Iroh is from Iran. Commander Zhao, also Indian. Fire lord is from New Zealand. Monk Gyatso was a black man. Sooo it seems like he was trying not to focus on race or nationality at all, but at the same time it’s very clear that this story and original show takes inspiration from a very specific culture and that culture should be recognized. I wouldn’t want rainbow casting for a story that specifically took place in an African environment and elements from that culture.
So as far as I’m concerned, the Netflix version did sooo much better with casting. But people are nitpicking, and yes I guess I can agree that the characters do appear more brown in the animated show. Especially Sokka and Katara. So yeah Netflix could have casted people who have a bit more of a tan. But come on y’all, this is NOT on the level of white washing that we’ve seen in other projects. Not to the point of boycotting or canceling the show 🙄 😑.
Plus, this cast legit looks like the live action versions of these characters. I mean Sokka literally looks like Sokka. It’s weird actually lol. His jaw line and how his features sit, literally looks like the cartoon character (some of yall mad at this because yall don’t think he’s “attractive” enough. Go watch the movie if you wanna see a cute white man play Sokka and get your rocks off that way. The focus here is storytelling) Even the chick playing Katara looks like her animated counterpart. I mean really everyone is spot on when it comes to their facial features and I think that was what Netflix was focused on more so than skin tone. Which I’m actually not too mad at.
I mean colorism is still a thing, of course. I’m black. I get it. But let’s not disown the show quite yet when they’re doing everything in their power to be as authentic as possible and respect the nationality or nationalities that inspire the story.
That’s a lot more than Mr. Shamalama did.
(Respectfully. Im being silly. No intention to maliciously disrespect his last name. He’s a good director and the movie had a FEW decent moments but all in all it was a BIG miss/mess.)

the day that we as a society realise that katara is a better waterbender than amon will be a good day
the only skills we saw from amon are bloodbending, and while this is a VERY powerful skill (he’s a very close second on my list), that’s not all that waterbending consists of, and so we can’t make an accurate judgement !!
also, katara can break out of bloodbending grips. she is so powerful she was able to defeat a master fire bender during sozins comet. she has defeated multiple masters!! she can bloodbend herself!! and learnt everything she knows within a year!!

Imagine being Azula’s friend but secretly dating Zuko behind her back
Tumblr media
One of the first things you and Azula bonded over was your annoying brothers. Azula told you how her brother had stolen one of her best friends away from her and you related to that. Your twin brother was none other than Sokka of the water tribe, who was also very popular with women. Most of the women you knew liked him, from Yue to Toph to Suki to Ty lee! It sometimes felt like you were the second attraction in a friendship and so you and Azula quickly became close over your shared frustrations.
Then....you betrayed her.
Well, betrayal is a bit dramatic but maybe not given how upset she'd been when Mai and Zuko started dating. You knew that had been hard for Azula to process.  How difficult it had been wondering if her friends really liked her or just wanted access to her brother. So when you started liking Zuko you didn’t plan on acting on it at all. Then Mai broke up with him.
Zuko was around at yours quite often, whenever he visited the water tribe he stayed in your home and when you visited the fire nation he extended the same hospitality. So throughout the years, you just naturally got closer and closer until....it happened. You started hanging out just the two of you and these occasions felt very date-like until Zuko just outright asked you out. You liked him and told yourself one date was fine, what harm could a single date do? But then as you kept seeing each other and one date soon progressed into many many more you knew your time to do the right thing and tell Azula you were dating her brother was approaching.
However the idea of doing that idea terrified you. You guessed Azula wouldn’t take it well and didn’t want to lose your friendship with her because of your relationship with Zuko. You wouldn’t break up with Zuko just to make her happy but you also didn’t want to lose Azula’s friendship, so when Katara’s birthday arose you were fairly nervous. There was going to be a large party and all of Katara’s friends were coming...which included Zuko and Azula. You hadn’t been together with everyone since you and Zuko started dating so you had no idea how it would feel. The whole time you and Zuko would have to convincingly act like you weren’t a couple and not make anyone at the party suspicious of the two of you. So when Zuko’s ship got in you fixed your eyes on Azula and tried not to stare at him any more than usual. You greeted him formally and didn’t admire him as you usually would. You fell in step with Azula and decided just to focus on her. It wasn’t hard, you were best friends and very close...however fate was not on your side. You got seated across from him at dinner which felt like some sick punishment and struggled not to get lulled into conversation with him. It didn’t help that Zuko was in a playful mood. He kept making comments about the things you’d done on your date and then sending you sly looks across the table. When you met his eye he smirked blatantly and you lightly kicked him under the table. That only made Zuko chuckled and look adorable so you sighed and decided to just keep your eyes down the whole time to survive dinner.
However, Zuko had no intention of stopping his teasing. After dinner you set about preparing the party for Katara tomorrow and having sent Sokka, Aang, Suki, Azula and Toph on their assigned jobs turned to your job of decorating. You were hanging streamers in the living room when you felt a hand curl around your waist. “Need some help there?” Zuko asked moving closer and he leaned up over you to hang it. “I could have done that myself” you smiled turning to face him and Zuko shrugged “I know you could’ve, but then I wouldn’t have been able to do this”. Zuko gently kissed your neck trailing down to your collar bone making you sigh. “Zuko...stop” you said faint heartedly and Zuko sensed that smirking "I don’t want to and you don’t want me to either, I can tell by how softly you said my name" he smiled "it’s been so long since we’ve had any time together". Your skin erupted in goosebumps and a shiver went down your spine as Zuko pressed closer against you. But you knew how badly this could end if literally anyone walked in. So swiftly you grabbed Zuko’s hands and twisted your way out of them. You held them tightly in one hand so he couldn’t try and slink around you again and used the other to make him look at you "Zuko we can’t okay, not on this trip. God knows i want to, i’ve missed you too but there’s too much that could go wrong i’m sorry". Zuko sighed but nodded his head "don’t worry i understand". Zuko’s shoulders sagged and you knew your insistance on keeping this quiet was difficult for him. "Thank you for understanding" you said hugging him quickly "i know it can’t be easy for you and I appreciate the effort you're going to for me". Zuko smiled resting his head on top of yours "it’s fine, i’d do a lot more for you if you asked but promise me it won’t always be like this....we will tell everyone soon?". You gulped but nodded pulling away "i promise, i will tell Azula...soon!". Zuko nodded “I believe you” and let his hands drop away from you. Not a moment later Sokka and Aang appeared in the room making the two of you jump. “Zuko just the man we need! We were thinking of making an ice sculpture, fancy some fire bending?”. Zuko nodded “sure” and with a last glance to you left the room.
Hours later the party preparations finished you returned to your room which you were sharing with Azula for her visit. “Sokka made me blow up balloons” she said angrily “something about fire benders being full of hot air”. You smirked at your brother’s nerve when Azula’s next sentence wiped it off your face.  "Also I think Zuko’s dating someone again" Azula said softly and you paused. "Ow really?" you asked and she nodded "he’s been spending a suspicious amount of time in the southern water tribe lately. Lots of visits which he claims are diplomatic but I can’t work out what he actually does here! He doesn’t know that many people and so it got me thinking, y/n do you think your brother and mine....". "No Sokka's still with Suki" you said shaking your head. Azula sighed “and it’s obviously not Katara, she and Aang are basically married, have you seen him hanging around anyone else? He doesn’t know many people so it should be easy to spot". You paused pretending to think but were really just trying to buy yourself time. "Honestly i don’t pay much attention to him when he visits" you said cleverly covering your back "but i will from now on and let you know". "Thank you y/n" Azula smiled. You smiled back relieved Azula didn’t suspect anything and let out a large breath you’d been holding for this entire conversation. You were now more than ready for sleep and got into bed hurriedly. You laid your head on your pillow and closed your eyes utterly exhausted.
"Goodnight y/n" Azula called and you nodded. You were very sleepy and after a long yawn smiled "good night Zuko".
You realised the name you’d said seconds after it came out of your mouth.
You froze
As did azula.
"Did you just call me Zuko...". You blinked "did i? I’m sure i said Azula". Azula was quiet for 2 seconds before she shot up "it’s you!" she cried "you're the one my brother’s dating!". "No Azula that’s crazy!!! We'd just been discussing Zuko, that’s why he was on my mind!". Azula shook her head "you're lying! I can tell by the tone of your voice! You’re the new girlfriend aren’t you?". You sighed "Azula i’m sorry i was going to tell you...". "I can’t believe you" Azula yelled and suddenly the door opened. "What’s wrong?" Sokka and Zuko asked bursting in “we heard yelling” and Azula glared. "You! Couldn't just have Mai huh? Had to take another one of my friends? How about when you’re done with y/n you try things with Ty lee?". "Ow she told you...." Zuko frowned awkwardly. "No i worked it out!” Azula spat “Y/n accidentally uttered your name because she’s so lovesick" Azula cried "you both make me sick" and she strode away slamming the front door hard as she exited the house.
After Azula left you all looked at one another unsure what to do or say next. "So...you two are a thing?" Sokka asked and Zuko paused "yes...is your reaction going to be as bad as Azula’s or can i go deal with her?". Sokka shook his head "go deal with her before she burns the village down”. Zuko went to move past Sokka when your brother put a hand to his chest "but come back and see me after, me and Katara will want to talk to you about dating our sister". Zuko surprisingly looked intimidated and nodded "I'll be right back". "Zuko wait i should come too" you called "this is as much my fault as yours". Zuko nodded "let’s go" and led you outside into the cold night after Azula.
You found Azula trekking in the snow and as she wasn’t in proper shoes you gained on her quickly. “Azula!” you called and she jumped. She looked around and glared “ow look the happy couple, how nice of you to grace me with your presence”. Zuko rolled his eyes “only you’d be so attention-seeking to make this about you”. “Attention seeking? Who’s the person who can’t form his own friendships or respect boundaries? No always have to date my friends, is it some weird way for you to gain power over me? A sad way to boost your ego?”. As Zuko and Azula went to square up to each other you stepped between them. “Alright enough the both of you! Zuko please go back to the house, i’ll handle this”. “But she...”. “Zuko please” you said sharply and he nodded “fine” and with a glare left. You watched him go before turning back to Azula. You’d been about to suggest you go home given that Azula was surely freezing out here in the middle of the night but Azula broke into a rant. "Everyone leaves me for him" she cried "Mai! My uncle! Mother! Even my father...after i was smarter, a better fire bender, more loyal and younger he still gave Zuko every little chance and only crowned me after Zuko literally ran away! When will i be good enough people don’t just choose him without a second thought for me?". "Azula i didn’t choose Zuko over you! Just because i like Zuko doesn’t mean i don’t like you still". "That may be true but this changes our friendship completely, it did with Mai! People always prioritise their partners over their friends so i’ll be second best once again". "Are you kidding?" you asked "Azula now i need you more than ever! Relationships aren’t when you ditch your friends, they’re when you need them the most! Who else are you going to go to for a break or a nice getaway? Who else is going to support and love you in only the platonic way a friend can? Who else can i complain about Zuko to when he annoys me or we fight?" you asked "they’re all things you need your friends for! Desperately and that’s going to be the same for me". "But when Mai dated him...". "But i’m not Mai" you smiled softly "Azula we are good friends, i won’t sideline you because of this. You mean just as much to me now as before i started dating Zuko". Azula huffed but you could see her melting. "So...how about we go inside, get some warm milk and talk a bit more about this huh?". You offered Azula your hand and she took it but she didn’t stop there. Azula threw her arms around you and hugged you tightly. "I’m partly doing this for the cold but thank you" she said softly "nobodies ever tried to make me feel supported when they've chosen Zuko, they just tell me to deal with it but you’re the first to try and reassure me and so i know you mean it, to still be my friend". "Of course" you smiled "you're my best friend!". Azula smiled and linked her arm through yours "i like that!”.
Zuko stared in awe as you and Azula returned grinning. "How did it go is everything okay?". You nodded "your extremely cool sister is fine with it". "Yes i thought this would be a great way to have an inside scoop on you zuzu". "She’s kidding i won’t talk to her about you...a lot". Zuko blinked "okay if everything's okay then i should go speak to Sokka and Katara, they’re waiting for me in the kitchen". Azula smiled "that’s a good idea, when you come back zuzu find me, i have some threats about what will happen if you hurt my best friend". You smiled at Azula and stepped to Zuko "good luck but don’t worry Sokka’s all bite, Katara’s the one to look out for but she has a big heart, just tell her how good a time we’ve had and you’ll be fine". "Good tips, any for my sister?". You smiled "Azula is one i have not worked out yet" you grinned "but i’m sure you’ll manage, you are the firelord after all". Zuko smirked and you patted his shoulder "after your appointment with my brother and sister and then your sister....you could always come find me in your room?". Zuko smiled "is that my motivation for surviving this?". You shrugged "you can think of it as that" and stepped away from him. Zuko watched you before sighing "alright let’s get this over with” he said loudly and strode towards the kitchen.
You turned back to Azula who raised an eyebrow at Zuko’s sudden confidence and she frowned. "Do i even want to know?" Azula asked and you shook your head "no". “Ow and don’t worry if I’m not in our room tonight”. “Euch Y/n!” Azula cried and you shrugged “what? I didn’t say why”. “I know why” she sighed before she smiled “at least I can have your bigger bed”. “Be my guest” you smiled, you had a firelord to get reacquainted with.

Love Conquers All
Zuko x Male Reader
Word Count: 1856
-------------
Y/n could understand where Zuko was coming from, but he knew he wouldn't be surprised if it didn't go as well as he had perhaps envisioned.
It was all very well and good that he had finally found his way, but he had hurt the Avatars group a fair bit before finding his way. Y/n also knew that as someone who had been a part of Zuko's attempts to hurt them, he had no leg to stand on in helping smooth the situation over. He hadn't been as single-minded in his focus on capturing the Avatar, but he had only cared because Zuko cared.
He didn't think that would matter to them, but then, Y/n didn't particularly care one way or the other how they felt about him. The only person who mattered to him was Zuko. Well, and Iroh, but that was a given of anyone who had met the calm old man.
When they made it to the kids campsite Y/n hung back, staying by the exit. It wasn't that he didn't trust them not to ambush him and Zuko, oh wait, it was that. Never mind.
Y/n watched the exchange carefully. He could feel it in the air mere seconds before she struck.
Faster than their eyes could follow, Y/n moved. By the time that everyone had caught up with the events, Y/n was standing in front of Zuko, sheathing his sword after having deflected Katara's water whip.
Silence reigned for a single heartbeat. Then Katara shrieked in outrage.
"How dare you!"
Y/n was sure she was still speaking, but he had a habit of being selectively deaf when it most benefited him.
And then, with almost no warning she was throwing water at him with increasingly wild movements.
It was no match for Y/n's technique.
It wasn't common knowledge, in fact, he had hidden it for most of his life, but Y/n was an airbender.
Yeah, literally the biggest lie in their world was that there were no more airbenders. The Air Nomads had had the practice of removing non-benders from their society and giving them to the other kingdoms.
What they didn't know was that all it took was for the right circumstances to happen and suddenly you had airbenders in the descendants of those non-benders.
It didn't change much ultimately, they were so few that they wouldn't ever be considered a threat to anyone, not that the Air Nomads had been when the Fire Nation had attacked them a hundred years ago.
What it all came down to, was a confused child suddenly developing powers that no one was able to control anymore.
Luckily for Y/n, the only person who had been around the first time he had bended was Zuko. As secrets tend to do, it had bound the two closer together than anyone would have thought ever since that day.
It was a loyalty that had seen Y/n stowing away on the ship Zuko had been banished on, and one that had been returned by Zuko had never once considered that the apparently Fire Nation child could be the reborn Avatar.
What it came down to, was that Katara was having no luck besting Y/n. Much as he wanted to put her in her place properly, Y/n knew that what they were trying to accomplish here would be hurt by that. From the looks of things though, they might have lost that chance.
Y/n stayed on the defensive, letting her tire herself out instead of outright attacking. He was worried about the look the Avatar was giving him though. That wide eyed expression couldn't mean anything good for his secret. He had always known that it would come out eventually, but he had hoped it would last longer than this dammit!
"Katara stop!"
The kid was trying to get in between then now, but the water tribe girl was apparently past the point of caring. She was just not backing down.
"Wait, I wanna talk to him!"
"No! They need to get out of here and never come back!"
Y/n was sure that her words might have been more intimidating if she weren't so clearly out of her league. He decided to ignore the voice in the back of his head that whispered that if he had used even half of his abilities properly before this they might have caught the Avatar long ago.
The element of surprise couldn't be taken for granted after all, and judging from the kid's reaction just now, all they would have had to do was show him Y/n's powers and he probably would have stayed on the ship that first day.
Y/n pulled himself out of his thoughts with a shrug. It was a bit late for that right now.
The Avatar had managed to get between Y/n and Katara, and seemed to be trying to talk her down from her rage. Y/n watched, only mildly interested. This wasn't how he had thought today would go.
He turned to Zuko, who was still standing behind him.
"Are you okay?"
He just looked Y/n over, head to toe looking for injuries.
"I'm fine, but are you sure it was a good idea to show them that? I could have taken a few hits. I've had worse before, you know that."
Y/n clenched his jaw at the reminder.
"I know. I'm sorry. You know how I feel about you willingly putting yourself in danger though. You didn't even try to defend yourself. Don't think I didn't spot that."
Y/n leveled a flat stare at Zuko.
He at least had the good grace to blush in shame and hide behind his fringe.
Y/n turned back to the group of kids gathered in front of them.
He gave them his best blank stare. He had nothing more to say to them, this was about Zuko teaching the Avatar firebending after all.
Besides, he was sure that anything he said would be twisted around and spat back at him by the water tribe girl.
"You're an airbender!"
Y/n refused to give up his secret that easily.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
The little blind girl perked up.
"You're lying. You are an airbender? I thought they were all wiped out."
Y/n stubbornly refused to respond. He could see the water tribe girl's eye narrow at his silence. She was just about to explode on him again when Y/n felt a shift in the air. Less than a second later he felt Zuko's hand on his shoulder.
He slumped slightly. Damn Zuko's soft heart.
"Yes. I can bend air."
The shout of pure joy that the Avatar let out was enough to make Y/n feel slightly guilty about keeping it from him the whole time he had been after him.
"I'm not alone! There must be more, right? Some of the monks survived and hid right? Please tell me!"
Man, this kid was excitable, and as happy as he was, Y/n didn't want to be the one to tell him that he was wrong. He couldn't take the soft option of letting Zuko tell him though, they would probably turn on the both of them and Zuko wouldn't be able to fulfill his destiny.
"No."
"No you're not going to tell him?"
That girl was really starting to get on Y/n's nerves.
"No, they didn't survive."
That shut her up.
It also made the kid tear up, but there was no point building a lie just to make him feel better in this moment. That would be more cruel than the truth.
"The only reason that I exist right now is because of your ancestors though. Your people had a practice of testing their babies for airbending potential."
The Avatar was nodding along. Good, this wouldn't be a surprise to him.
"Well, when they showed to be non-benders your people gave them away. They were sent off to the other kingdoms, not welcome in, nor considered to be, a part of the Air Nomads."
"Air Nomads are airbenders, so if they aren't airbenders they aren't Air Nomads. That's just the way things are."
Y/n grit his teeth. It was an old hurt, but it still stung. He pulled in a deep breath and the only thing that stopped him from screaming about the injustice of it all was Zuko's hand that was still on his shoulder lending him the strength to continue.
"Your people were wrong. Occasionally their methods would be wrong, and they would let a bender slip away into another kingdom. But more than that, its in our blood, in the thing that makes us who we are. When enough of your ancestors were born from the Air Nomads, no matter whether they could bend themselves or not, you have the possibility to end up as a bender."
The Avatar's jaw was hanging open as he stared in horror at Y/n.
"But, they couldn't possibly have known that! If they had, maybe they wouldn't have done what they did."
Y/n's eyes shone with a dark light. This was something he would ultimately have to give up, but it was worth planting the seed if he could.
"So your saying that the only possible use non-benders have is the possibility of benders being born from them?"
The Avatar stopped cold and stared at Y/n in horror.
"What? No! Of course not!"
"Then what? You had no problem with the idea that they would be thrown away like yesterday's garbage up until now. The only thing that's changed is this piece of information."
Y/n pulled back as he saw the tears form in the Avatar's eyes.
"Think on that for a while. You have a non-bender in your group. Do you consider him to be useless?"
The kids all looked like they had been hit over the head.
Y/n was sure that this would be the end of their interaction for the day.
"We'll come back tomorrow. Maybe then we can talk without resorting to violence."
He turned back to Katara who looked like she was getting ready to unleash whatever thoughts had been happening in that head of hers.
"Before you put your foot in it, consider this. We have two things you want. One you desperately need, the other, something you desperately want. Have a good night."
Zuko turned and walked back the way they had come, with Y/n bringing up the rear. He didn't trust them not to attack them from behind.
Y/n hoped that with the reminder that they needed Zuko to teach the Avatar firebending, they would be more open to meeting the next day. If that weren't enough, then there was the added bonus of Y/n being the only other airbender that they knew. He was sure that the Avatar wouldn't be able to resist the pull to be around someone who was like him for long.
Either way, they still had a long way to go to convince them that they didn't want to hurt them and that this wasn't a trap.
'Oh well,' Y/n thought as he lay sleepily beside their fire, 'things always look better in the morning.'

I knew there was discourse again about Katara being reduced to only a healer in LOK because I got harassed by multiple people on an old post for daring to say that Katara can be a compassionate healer and also love fighting, and that the only reason she "changed" in LOK is because that's what we expect of women once they reach a certain age (which is also why teenagers on tumblr think women should lose all their interests after thirty), but I do want to address something I saw yesterday, a question posed by the "aren't you being sexist for expecting more of this female character" crowd, which was "did Katara love fighting, or did she love bending?"
With the obvious implication that she loved healing just as much as she loved fighting, if not more since she apparently doesn't fight at all once she becomes a mother, and not only is this claim demonstrably not true, but here's the thing about that:
Katara loves bending, she loves learning to bend, she clearly loves the competition, she loves taking pride in bending as a skill and being recognized for her accomplishments. And I would argue that she would find equal joy in learning new healing techniques and being able to show how good she is at it IF using bending to heal were EVER presented that way by the show.
Part of the problem is that the depiction of healing is inconsistent. It's introduced to us as a rare ability that is innate rather than learned. Katara did not have to get any instruction to know it or become better at it, the way she does with using her bending to fight. In its introduction scene it is associated with "the great benders" but then when we get to the North we learn that healing is treated as a lesser art, and women are actively taught to only focus their bending on healing. You can chalk this up to a sexist society, but the problem is that the show itself doesn't do anything to challenge this view of healing.
Katara snubs the healing huts but unlike with combat bending, she doesn't need to learn anything to be a great healer. Her healing is enhanced by the spirit water but even without it, she's able to bring Zuko back from the brink of death without developing this skill at all.
Healing bending SHOULD require skill. It should be an ability that requires study and practice just like anything else, and in the real world, healing is just as much of an art as fighting. But the show doesn't portray it this way, ever.
That's why it comes across as condescending when LOK does not allow Katara to fight, when they tell us she's the greatest healer in the world but don't treat healing like it's something she needed to develop. Even when she uses healing in LOK, as @fireladykatara pointed out, it's only as a plot point to show us how bad an injury is that even Katara can't heal it. This isn't just a problem with LOK itself, which is why the argument that Katara isn't a main character there also rings false. It has to do with the way healing is treated in both series.
So I'm sorry, but the accusation that people who take issue with this depiction don't value healing as an art rings false primarily because the show doesn't value it as an art. This is a consistent problem with the way female characters are often depicted in media. It's reducing the character because the things we are told she is known for are informed abilities that don't seem to require any skill to learn, even when they should. People get mad about Katara not getting a statue because of the same issue. Katara in ATLA is someone who would have been THRILLED to have a statue. LOK tells us that women should be content to not be recognized for their talents, despite that being the norm in our society, and the talents they do have are so often treated as innate feminine abilities. It takes work to be a healer! It takes work to be a mother! It's not just something that comes naturally, although our society thinks it does. Women are historically devalued by society no matter what they choose and Katara not getting a statue despite a large part of her character revolving around fighting to be recognized as just as capable as the boys is just another reflection of that.
That's also why many people write fic about Katara incorporating bloodbending into healing, because it is a skill that Katara was required to learn through hard work. I love fics where Katara uses her bloodbending knowledge to hone her healing abilities, because they focus on it as a skill rather than an innate quality, something that Katara can take pride in. If Katara was going to outlaw bloodbending, the law should have been against using it as a weapon or without consent, because that's where the problem with it lies.
And like many people have also said, it's not just that Katara is relegated to stereotypically feminine or informed abilities, it's that even within that sphere she is not allowed to be relevant where she rightfully should have been. She could have easily been shown at Yakone's trial, even if she was only standing there in one shot. She wasn't there not because she "changed" but because it literally did not occur to the writers that she should be anywhere other than at home keeping house. It's not that being a stay at home mother is bad, it's that writers get mysteriously, suddenly uncreative when it comes to writing women, even if those same women are allowed to challenge the status quo as little girls. The assumption is that they will eventually grow out of it because that's what is expected of women in our society.
And if this were really about fans just being sexist by not valuing healing enough, then why is it that Aang never is shown learning waterbending healing? Why is healing so important for Katara - more important than the combat moves she spent all of ATLA mastering - but not good enough for the Avatar to even try to learn? If you want a character who never wanted to use bending to fight, look no further than Aang. But the show NEVER suggests that this is something Aang should learn, and it's because the writers coded it as a feminine trait and simultaneously did not think it was important enough. I doubt it even occurred to them. So no, don’t come at fans for pointing out the double standards here.
Of course Katara doesn't hate healing, her whole deal was wanting a choice, but If ATLA were a modern show and we saw Katara tell Pakku she didn't want to heal, she wanted to fight - without LOK reassuring us that Katara grew up to become a good little housewife - some of y'all would be screaming about "internalized misogyny" because that's what pop faux feminism wants you to think about women who challenge the status quo.

ATLA Characters Commenting on Their Relationships
…but in Clickhole interview quotes.
(I’m so sorry for this, but Discord made me post it…NSFW below the cut.)
Katara (or Mai), on handling the Firelord in the sack:
“Handle him? I don’t have to handle him. That’s why I bring rope.”
Zuko, on handling the Fire Lady in the sack:
“Toph, if you’re reading this, stop selling those metal toys to my wife! She isn’t using them on herself!”
Sokka, on his wedding night with Suki:
“I would like you to imagine a tree trunk passing through a keyhole. Most folks would say that there’s no way it could fit, but they’d be wrong. With the power of love—and lots of prep—anything is possible.”
Suki, on her wedding night with Sokka:
“He said the thing about the tree trunk and the keyhole, didn’t he? Well that’s complete nonsense. It was more like an Unagi trying to swim down a sink drain. But thank Kyoshi that boy can use his mouth. He could probably lace up my gloves with his tongue.”
Hakoda, on reuniting with Kya in the Boiling Rock:
“So I was out in the prison yard minding my own business when I overheard some guy say, ‘Damn, who knew Prison Mom had enough cake to feed a whole village?’ And in that moment, I just knew she was alive. There’s only one woman with that much cake, and it’s my wife.”
Kya, on reuniting with Hakoda in the Boiling Rock:
“Over the six years I spent locked up in the Fire Nation, I eventually became the Boiling Rock’s de facto ‘Prison Mom.’ The other prisoners came to me for advice, counsel, and mediation. They saw me as a source of compassion and humanity—someone they could look up to in a hellhole of cruelty and amorality…and then what happens? My hot himbo husband and that absurdly thick [redacted] of his show up on the trolley, and the next thing I know, I’m on my back underneath the cafeteria tables getting my [redacted] [redacted] and [redacted] [redacted] by Hakoda. We were both making up for lost time, but he literally [redacted] in my [redacted] when he could’ve just [redacted] in my mouth instead. So why in [redacted] [redacted] [redacted] [redacted] was he surprised when I missed my next period??? I’ve been praying to Tui that Sokka and Katara don’t do the math on when their twin siblings were conceived. If they do, my big-[redacted] husband can explain it to them. But anyway, that sort of tarnished my ‘Prison Mom’ image. Sorry…did I answer your question?”

Sorry about the last question lol. Can you do both? I rlly like your opinions on things!
Yeah totally!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here are some of my ships!!! This is in no way to disrespect people who ship the ships I dont like (besides ships like Sasha and Grime. Guys, she's a teeenager)
I dont really have a lot of ships I dont like, I think anything is a possibility in fanon!! But I do have a LOT of ships I like! That's why I have an honorable mentions column lmao
I have some ramblings under the cut
ATLA:
Obviously we have Katoph there, if you scroll even a little bit down my blog, you're sure to find something of these two. I just think they're AMAZING!!! With Toph's neutral jing and the mix of positive and negative for Katara, they are literally all or nothing and I'm- I liked how their relationship started out rocky in the beginning but had the chance to grow into a mutual respect and kinship with each other
With the amount of Katoph stuff I do, I bet you're surprised that I LOVE Tophzula. I think their dynamic could be SOOOO interesting. Toph being with the only person in the WORLD who could lie to her and Azula being with one of the few people who could match her in abilities and strength?? Talk about a fucking POWER COUPLE!!!
And Zukkaang, listen LISTEN, this ship is GOOD. I LOVE THIS SHIP!!! I love the idea of Zuko and Sokka getting together first then, after a couple years Aang kinda realizes "oh shit I'm like, madly in love with these two amazing people" and straight up tells them. They'll obviously take some time to process but then they all get together AND GET MARRIED WITH 3 DIFFERENT CEREMONIES FOR EACH OF THEIR CULTURES AND HABE KIDS AND BE HAPPY-
I put Taang in my dislikes because I see Toph and Aang as siblings, like just,,, twins,, I think they have an adorable dynamic as these insanely string children who still like having fun and have a strong appreciation for freedom.
Tokka has similar reasons. I think Toph's crush on Sokka in the series was ADORABLE but I dont ever see it going anywhere. Honestly, I see her growing out of it quickly but Sokka reminding her of it everyday and SOKKA IT'S BEEN 10 YEARS SINCE THEN, PLEASE LET HER LIVE IT DOWN IT'S EMBARRASSING
Sokkla, I just see these two as frenemies who are CONSTANTLY trying to one up each other in ANYTHING, I imagine it's super funny to watch
And again, no shame or hate towards people who DO ship it!! People really make these ships work and stuff!!! It's cool!!!
Sokka and Suki are so cute as this sort of young love/clinging onto each other for any sort of steady ground because everything else is falling apart sort of way. And honestly?? HHHHH CUTE!!
Yuetara is of course here because OH MY GOD COME ON, THE OCEAN AND THE MOON??? THESE BITCHES ARE GAY!!! THEY ARE BALANCE!!! THEY ARE IN LOVE!!!!
Jet/Teo/Haru (anyone have their ship name??) Is just cute okay??? I liked Teo and Haru but I also liked Harua and Jet so I decided TO JUST SHIP THEM ALL BECAUSE YOU CAN JUST, DO THAT!! IT'S CUTE GUYS
Amphibia:
Sashannarcy,,, do I need to say more?
Grime/Hop Pop/Sylvia (ship name anyone?) Is SO CUTE!! I don't see Grime and Sylvia together though, they both just shake hands on loving Hopadiah Planter
I also don't know the ship name for Sprig/Ivy/Maddie but I think is adorable!!! I think that Sprig and Maddie don't like each other like that but both DO like Ivy!! I only have like,,, one ship in this fandom that isn't polyamorous,,,
Sprig and Anne, I don't like because I see them as siblings. Anne is such an older sister to Sprig in good and bad ways. Like, she'd help him no matter what (and literally went super sayian and beat the shit out of a king for him) but also shows him memes and is an overall TERRIBLE INFLUENCE on him and I mean that in the nicest possible way
Also, Felicia/Wally, I saw a post that headcanonned that they used to be lovers but couldn't be together because Wally's family disapproved and he was also Ivy's dad and HHHHHH I LOVE THAT!!! I love the idea of them not being together but still pinning for the other secretly, always looking at each other a little too long in passing and stuff like that,,,
But yeah!!! My ships!!! Thank you for the ask and I'm honored you wanted to know what I ship and dont ship!!
