I'm going to put this under a cut because I rambled a little, but I wanted to offer my detailed impression :P Rest assured! No tearing to shreds occurred. He remains intact.

Well, I didn’t know who this guy was, so I took myself to the ole Wikipedia and my first thought was wow! Look at those label names.

Second thoughts: Ooh, dancer. I'm looking forward to see how the dancing is (if he still dances).

I have heard of INTO1 but don't watch idol competition shows, but it's impressive that he placed first. I decided to listen to/watch two songs/performances: his first single, 靠岸, from 2019, and his most recent single from 2023, Focus.

靠岸 didn't seemed to have an official video, so I ended up watching a live performance from a show called Mr. Radio.

I was pleasantly surprised by this song! Seeing that he had been on Produce Camp, I was expecting a more pop kind of song, but this was a song I could imagine playing in the OT of a drama (in a good way!). I think his performance was a little shaky here, but I sense that maybe he was nervous? Either way, he seems a little shy here, where this song would really benefit from a powerhouse performance. Idk, maybe it was also a sound mixing issue. I like the song, though. Very pretty. I went to listen to the studio recording and it was a lot better—much closer to what I was hoping to get. The oooooh part sort of reminds me of a Zhou Shen song whose title I can't remember at the moment. It was space themed, though. (EDIT: the song I was thinking about was Cassini)

Next up!! Focus. I watched the Official Music Video on Youtube first.

Coming off 靠岸， I could see from the thumbnail that this song would be closer to the pop sound that I expected, so the things I was interested in seeing was the MV concept and the dancing. On first watch, I didn't really listen to the lyrics much, because there were no captions to read and I can't really tell what people are saying in pop songs anyway.

I have to admit that going into the video with the big gray space only, I thought it was pretty ugly at first. I just think that the CG structure on pale BG concept always looks cheap no matter who does it, though, and Liu Yu seems like a sort of tiny guy, so with all the dancers around him, I initially thought he looked a little swamped by them.

At 0:48 when we got a flash of the all-black cowboy look, again I was a bit disappointed, thinking that there wouldn't be much edge to concepts.

Then we got to the, I'm gonna say, test lab sewer gothic, and I thought "ok, at least that's something". It's definitely be done before but there's more production in that set and look, so at least the whole video isn't just going to be a gray void. The flash of Liu Yu standing in as his own princess was kind of interesting (disappointed this character never showed up in the music video again)

Now I know said I wasn't going to rip him to shreds and that's because....!!! When the beat dropped, I went "ok wait" lol. At 1:03, I witnessed evidence of stage presence and was like "oh we are so back, baby"

Still not a fan of the big pale space, and I think Liu Yu's charisma was most visible in the sewer gothic scenes and weakest in the scenes where he's wearing the silver ice skating outfit looking blouse, but maybe that's just because it distracts you with his little twig body. I personally can't buy into the energy of someone who looks like the most movable object on earth.

3:03 the "yuh" made me laugh tho

MV looks ranked (best to worst):

One thing that I didn't like about the MV (but understand is necessary) was that the video kept cutting right as I thought to myself "Oh, this is a nice bit of dancing", and I wish the shots had been wider on the dance moves instead of cutting him off at the ribs. A wider dance version in the sewer (I know that's not what it was but jhkalfjl) would've been appreciated by me. With that in mind, I decided to see if there was a dance performance video and there was! As suspected, the choreography in the beginning of the song is also just not that strong or compelling to me. It sort of gives intermediate hiphop 2 dance recital. My favorite part of choreo is the breakdown at 2:56.

Anyway, I hope these impressions were sufficient! I didn't check him out on any variety shows so I can't comment much on what I think about his personality, but from a music/performance standpoint, I think he's pretty good. Not really the kind of stuff I listen to anymore but if I still kept up with idols, maybe I'd check him out from time to time :)

Ok whoops wrong reference. Happy Valentine's Day everyone! I made a MV of the song "Darling Dance" by Kairiki Bear featuring my favourite little tricksters for the occasion!

I'd rather you go straight to Youtube to watch it because Tumblr always finds a way to cut the quality, lol.

Here it is! Hope you enjoy my pride and joy. Basically like a hopeful child but in video format. Reblogs are specially appreciated because Youtube sucks at promoting new channels!

This also acts as a behind-the-scenes post, so let's get straight into that, shall we?

MV Project 1 "Darling Dance"

Illustration time: 37 hours

Editing time: Approx. 30-35 hours

Total: 70 hours

*Cough* Holy freakin' moly does making an MV take so long. Before you roll off your bed, I'll say that part of the reason making the art took so long was because I have trouble drawing Marx consistently.

Here's some unused assets! Look at them, they're all salty over not making the cut.

In all seriousness though, a lot of times I don't really see a lot of editors/ MV makers getting appreciation for their efforts. And now that I've personally experienced making an MV for the first time, it's also increased my admiration to the people who dedicate their time to this! All the kudos to them.

Now, I'll go scene by scene then comment along the way! Spoilers ahead!

Verse 1

Pretty good for what it is. In the first image, you see that heart behind Magolor? I discovered the motion of it on complete accident lol. Capcut is hard to figure out..

I also really like the color palette of 2nd image. That art of Marx was the last one I did during production (aka I drew it this morning), and just look at him. He's such a bastard he's the best.

Pre Chorus 1

Mmmm yeah it sure is the pre chorus! I put a bar behind the text in the middle because I didn't want people to stare into their soulless eyes for too long. That probably worked!

1st Chorus

When I first added in the expression change, I fangirled over it a little on the first rewatch. Like, come on! They suddenly look mischievous, and the color change on the background! I know I drew it but still!

For the rest, I experimented a little with all the "Nah"s! I think it ended up well. Most of the lyric editing in this MV is completely original, so I had a couple of things to try out!

Verse 2

This song is horrifically outdated because it says Twitter instead of X!! (/sarcasm)

This scene is my second favourite. I'm really proud of the details on the tabs and the editing at the beginning! Wish I could put more images but the app only allows ten. Bummer.

Pre Chorus 2

I think it's cute, and I used it as my pfp on YouTube! That's about it though.. image limit is killing me I can't put anything here :(

Chorus 2

...Not gonna spoil it! I like how I drew them, but there ain't anything notable. Unless you look at the last image I put right before the bridge. :)

Bridge

This is where my editing comes in freakin' clutch. Ooooooh it's so satisfying to look at. Chef's kiss. Also those Marxs (Marxes?) are really cute.

The second part of the bridge is nice as well! I tried to make the lyrics snap to the rhythm. Glad I added that tv effect in the bg too!

Chorus 3

This scene is my favourite! Wanna know why?

This sequence right here. I think I will etch it into my brain forever... I love me some snappy editing. Like a lot. Like a lot a lot!

The second part of the chorus is like the original song's MV! I loved the hearts popping in and out whoever thought of that is a genius. Putting it into the MV was a good decision!

i really wish i had a graphic tablet so i could paint stuff more frequently, because mixing traditional and digital is a pain in the ass sometimes

my process for a fully rendered piece is usually: loose sketch on sketchbook with a pencil (or mechanical pencil), lineart with your usual 0.2mm marker, erase all the pencil lines, take a pic with my phone, edit the pic so the lineart is fully black and the bg fully white for transparency conversion on pc, sometimes if it is a big piece i have to make separate drawings and later put them all back together on pc..

now with the picture on pc i do everything with a mouse and my wrist hates it so much !!

into the process again: open paint tool sai and spend some time fixing mistakes and cleaning the lineart, color block different areas (character, background, etc.) and base colours (this is the most boring and time consuming steps because the bucket fill option works bad with my lineart + i have low precission with the mouse when filling everything manually) and then onto the fun part which is going crazy with lighting and shadows and being messy with it

so i genuinely think a tablet would speed up my process and help with the random wrist pains eventually

Sorry, I couldn't post that link on my blog because that account appears to be unscrupulous and posts a lot of things that are inaccurate and/or out of bounds.

Yes, GG's laugh did appear in the background of DD's card trick video. It's not edited in, it really did appear. I remember the first time I saw it I noticed the laugh myself, before turtles talked about it being a candy, and I was immediately 👀. Of course it could in theory be someone else laughing, but it's a pretty distinctive laugh. If it's someone else with the same odd laugh, that's a big coincidence.

Those wanting to decide for themselves can view the video on SDOC's Douyin channel (the laugh happens about 40 seconds in).

For those who can't access Douyin, here's the clip.

The widespread translation of GG's interaction with Darren Wang on Sina day appears to be incorrect. The inital part of the conversation was covered on Marcus' YT channel, which can be found here.

The claim by some turtles is that as GG and Darren Wang are saying goodbye to each other, Darren Wang says, "You better get going or he (DD) will surely sulk."

I had a whole post about this somewhere in the past but I can't find it. A Chinese-speaking friend told me that's not what Darren Wang is saying, and that people are misinterpreting his words.

I asked @potteresque-ire to take a look and she agrees. Here's what she had to say:

I listened to it several times. There were a few words by Darren that were difficult to make out, but I can hear fairly clearly that Darren's last few words were 鬧你的直播 -- "raise havoc on the live broadcast". In the turtle version of the dialogue, since there was a pause between 鬧你 and 的直播, they omitted the last three words. 鬧你 can mean "scold you ", and so they translate into sulk. TBH though, in addition to the three words being omitted, I don't think 鬧你 as "scold you" is common usage in mainland / Taiwanese mandarin; only Cantonese speakers talk that way.

Without the you — just 鬧 — would have supported turtles version more. But the you is clearly there.

And so, I lean towards Darren saying something about raising havoc to the live broadcast as well. On bilibili, one of the translations given (can be by a solo) is: "Later I will come to wreak havoc on your live broadcast".

Which aligns with what I remember my other friend telling me a while back (wish I could find that post).

I’ve read most of your works and each one has its own beauty and aura(?) that is so uniquely its own. Bd!jk and B and so different from CV!jk and Annie who are so different to YU?!jk and Neva that it messes with my head sometimes. How you’ve managed to give jk such a distinct yet familiar personality is truly astounding.

I’m so happy seeing all the love you receive for BD (which is so soooo very well deserved btw) but i think we don’t talk enough about CV. I mean the plot. The characters. The attention to detail. The insane storytelling. Heck, even the chapter names leave me in such awe. I’m truly truly grateful to have found your work when I did and I know it’s silly to say that I’m a changed person for it. The kindness u show us and the love u have for the tannies is so heartwarming. Holly, I hope the people around u know how lucky they are to be in your presence. Your work is not just some silly little stories, it’s a piece of you that you’ve chosen to share with the world and it is such a privlidge. I don’t think I’ll ever stop talking about it.

The amount of times I’ve cried tears (good and bad ones) from all the emotions surprises me too. I constantly think about your writing and even though this past year I’ve given a piece of my heart to bd I think a bigger chunk will always go to color Vision. This is in no way a comparison of your work, it’s just something I’ve come to realize recently that cv just has a very special place in my heart. before i get into it, i just wanna say thank u for sharing your thoughts with me - I know it takes a fair amount of time to send an ask like this and so I really appreciate it!!

i always like to think of my jk characters as multiverse versions of each other. there are similarities that run through (after all, they're all based on the same muse!!), but they all have different lives that shape them into the character they are.

ahhh cv <3 im currently in the process of doing some edits to it and honestly I wish I had more time to devote crafting it into an even better story. i love the world the world of cv - I'm constantly thinking about the spin off stories I could write (like hobis, gawwd I wanna explore his experience of colour!!)

I know it’s silly to say that I’m a changed person for it.

i'm always in such a state of disbelief whenever I read things like this. to know I've had an impact - and a positive one at that - is just wild to me, and you'll never know how appreciative I am.

writing these stories has really been helpful for me, and sometimes can be a way that I process my own issues. I'm a changed person for them, too.

🌷 I think first step is to choose a theme?

It’s not required and honestly my main blog is just the classic tumblr theme. I just change the color schemes depending on the banner I’ve chosen. I also prefer the grid view so I can see around 4 columns of content since that is my main blog for posting fangirling content + ongoing fics + random stuff. For ggukkiereads, I really prefer if content is posted per column and I decided to choose from different theme creators!

🌷 banners and profile pictures

For banner making, I just use Canva. My pfp is butter Joonie/sugakitty which I had commissioned and I can just change or use them in all banners as I wish. There’d be banners on twitter too for profile layouts that you can use for free but they are usually for twitter layouts. If you like some you can ask the artist if you can use the profile photo or banner for tumblr instead of twitter.

If you need to remove a background, there is a free bg remover online.

Note: important to give credit to the source. In my blogs, I usually document where I get the photos, etc.

🌷 color schemes

I just used Canva for the color codes (hex codes). Tumblr will also suggest a color palette when you’re choosing the blog colors. I guess just experiment and have fun with it? See what colors you like or speak to you.

🌷 mobile

Please note that sometimes your desktop theme will look different on mobile. And this gives me headaches and I am not prepared to give tips because it’s a “let’s wing it” process for me when setting my mobile theme. I guess try simple themes first? Then once you are confident with theme changing, you can start customizing more details of your blog for mobile (you have to use customize for mobile link which you can find on your dashboard settings)

This requires codes but if you are not comfortable to link sites yet, then not required to use this. But if you see on my blogs my bio has linked description, right?

We have the form of Kevlar armor but the plastic would be vulnerable so he said it's like some kind of ceramics and we tried it and it breaks up but you can still get hit a bunch of times and survive it he put the ceramics on the outside it's like a layer of plastic and then you have insulation and it's very warm in the winter let's ceramics make it cold so I tried it with this plastic armor we have it's like the Stormtroopers but it's a lot better and it works great and it's good for atmosphere suits when it's cold now the ones they use down there are professional grade atmosphere suits if it's compromised you can still stay warm but they're expensive and they're big this will be for you know people for regular foot soldier or people who are in the national guard or in EMT emergency groups that like firemen and for explorer post and for rescue workers it's really a huge thing for rescue workers but this armor is not it is a bit flammable you can't use it in fires but he says you can use different suits there's something that we're making for fires and they look pretty cool they don't do too well in the cold I wish it's odd you can't seem to get one that works well in both and he says asbestos it's not as fast as but it's similar it just does not work very well wow so it's learning and it's there's a lot of materials we use in space that would work but this suit works great it looks like this it's similar material and it goes down to like negative 50 and the most I've seen it get even down below is like -60 people say negative 100 but really I have not seen that and people say if we have a freeze out it's probably not going to get below negative 10 and we agree we need that up there all the time so I'm going to take my design and I'm going to try and get BG to fine tune it see if he knows of some other materials it's full of resistant it's bullet resistant and if you put metal in the outside it gets cold even if you sandwich it it gets cold so it really transfers the cold for some reason I don't know why don't ask me why but our friends said it really will make you cold that metal is steel is a cold metal some metals are not as cold but they still do it and it's like conductivity and that makes a lot of sense there's plastic is not very conductive so will and Bill like the ceramics but doesn't work that great and polycarbonate doesn't work too great this other forms of armor but really it doesn't work too good this is what about lexan and I tried it once and it seems that it goes in it and it won't stop it unless it's thick but we have real super hard stuff so I checked that out mess up works great and it doesn't transfer the heat it's kind of fireproof a little bit and he says that you have this scratch proof layer and wonder if you can enhance that and I decided to try it and really it works it's an awesome invention and it doesn't have to be clear and use different colors certain coloring works and he's wondering about nanoparticles to make it weaker or stronger and it makes it weaker but you can put it on the surface and nanoparticles might work certain ones so we're looking at this stuff that's a great idea is it's not really that expensive he says you just have to use this process and it's true and you can have different grades just like glasses I'm getting ready to do this right now

Anything look at this idea these suits can be good to real cold without any electrical systems it is electrical system and it could be really really warm and our friend says that you could use a passive system with certain materials with static I might fry your nuts a little bit so I laughed and said wow that's interesting and the guy said it's possibly true that you can have some material that you wear that it warms up so I'm going to look at that too so damn cold down there almost everybody dies we have the stuff and it works

Wow we're going to get involved this is worth something to us in the static idea is great and this plastic is great too it's really really resistant it's bulletproof at a certain distance it'll block all the lead you can throw at it and it does have resistance to armor piercing it a distance not real close but a 45 caliber won't go through it at 20 yards and that's only if it's like 3/8 of an inch it's really hard and it doesn't weigh much and making it hard works and there's some you can do the surface that makes the surface harder and it's not as strong that's why you don't do it we're going to go ahead with us and you can layer it with the harder stuff boy that's smart like a 16th of an inch thick armor like on a tank can you put pieces on even your visor you could put a few layers that's pretty quick

I saw a post going around about this movie a few days ago, so I got the artbook for the movie “Red Shoes and the Sever Dwarfs”! I’ve heard a lot of positive things about this movie but hadn’t got around to watching it yet, maybe I’ll watch it this weekend.

※Contains spoilers for the movie!! Please read at own risk

I hope it’s okay to post some pictures from it, the book actually had a lot of info packed in it and it was a really nice read, it had interviews, and things about how making 3D animated projects worked, since making this movie was a huge challenge for this studio. I think it was their first major project and apparently it took them 10 years to develop it as a whole.

The first edition of the book came with a mini poster design that was unused, along with a small notebook, it was so cute!

Uhh so as you may know, the story of this movie revolves around the seven princes(dwarfs) and snow white, the princess.

The princes were supposed to be something like the idols of this universe with great skills and looks-

but they’ve turned into dwarfs because they attacked a fairy princess mistaking her for a monster judging her only by her looks. She gave them a curse that’d make them shift into small green gremlins whenever someone “looks at them”. When they are alone they can return to their original selves, but if someone else is there they immediately have to change into this form ↓

and of course they’re in utter shock and they wish to return back to their pretty selves- and there’s only one way back: to find the most beautiful princess ever and receive a kiss from her. And then we get the princess, snow/red shoes.

Snow White is a princess who looks like the one on the left, and she’s actually pretty happy, fond and proud of how she looks. She somehow obtains this red shoes that turns her into this slim and pretty figure on the right though, and seeing how she is in that form, the dwarfs think “wow, she is the one we’ve been looking for” and tries to help her find her dad and help her return to the kingdom she’s from. So she starts to have her own internal conflicts too, thinking how she might be treated differently when she reveals how she originally is?? but she already loves herself as she is in general overall, and she’s pretty much a character that’s fully developed in terms of personality.

It’s the other main character, Merlin, that’s the one who grows throughout the story. Handsome as he is,(or used to be) he really cares about the way he looks and is so determined to get back being pretty. I kind of get him though, I’d want to go back too if I were to be him I mean look at how cute he looks! (although he’s still kinda cute as his little green self)

Really like how he turned out in the finalized design, tbh the reason I initially got interested in this movie was due to how good this guy looked?? he looks so cute

anyhow, he finds it really hard to accept that he isn’t “beautiful” anymore and emphasizes a lot on how he used to be the most handsome guy ever and believes if snow saw him as his original self she’d fall for him immediately as well. But in reality, she ended up loving him regardless of the way he looked (in fact, it says that she actually thought he was cuter as a dwarf)

and later on, he finds out that she is the most beautiful princess in the world for him too, not due to her looks or her kind heart or anything. He just ended up loving her as a whole, for being her. After he realizes it, his curse is finally lifted and him and snow ends up together as their true selves.

the other guys seem to learn their own lessons too from their friend and find their own loves regardless of looks

Overall, really cute story. I already knew about the plot but reading about the director’s thoughts behind the making process and how this story came to be felt pretty meaningful, it isn’t perfect, but I like the message they’re trying to send!

They write that the reason they chose the fairy tale “snow white and the seven dwarfs” as a motif was because that story has a lot to do with “looks’ and “beauty”, with the stepmother trying to murder snow white for being more beautiful than her and snow white eventually being saved due to how beautiful she looks. They wanted to question what is true beauty then? and in that story, snow white leaves with the prince leaving the dwarfs behind (always thought about that too, I hope she remembered to thank and repay them) so they made the dwarfs take a more major role, and flipped the story around enabling the dwarfs and the princess to save each other, regardless of the way they look.

In short, the message this movie’s trying to deliver is “love yourself as you are”, as stated by the director. It could be an overused message by now but I still think they put a lot of thought into this to try and deliver a meaningful message, and it’d be nice if little children could feel more positive about themselves after watching a movie like this in their childhood!

other than that, the book in itself was really pretty on its own too!// looking at the artworks (the bgs especially) was really inspiring! This is my second time buying an artbook from an animated film (the first being zootopia and that movie as great!) and it felt really pleasant! a lot of beautiful concept artwork from production and there were quite a bit of words too? I was surprised it actually had some entertaining read about film production. Pretty convinced I’ll give this movie a try! If it’s good, I’ll recommend it! It seemed rly cute, the artbook was adorable and I loved it for sure.

Oh Yeah I mentioned a Sprinkle of Final Fantasy and KH but I haven’t talked about that Aspect of my Canon At all have I? Well truth be told it’s cause I’m focusing on getting the more Basic Aspects of my Oc’s Before I get into that but Guess who made this Baby on a Whim!

So this is the Map of the Isle of Light well the Main Island at least there are other Littler Bits of land Yet to surface I̶t̶’̶s̶ ̶t̶o̶t̶a̶l̶l̶y̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶ ̶s̶o̶ ̶I̶ ̶c̶a̶n̶ ̶A̶d̶d̶ ̶o̶n̶t̶o̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶s̶ ̶L̶a̶t̶e̶r̶ ̶h̶a̶h̶a̶ oh yeah did I mention it’s a FLOATING ISLAND!! Yeah P Sick right? So The Isle of Light was Originally the Black Forest A Place of Freedom and Expression for all who lead lives who Needed to hide Such and Some Such was The Coven of the Black Forest made up of 3 sisters (not biologically also there was a 4th) they all found comfort and love with each other one being the Princess of the Kingdom nearby (The 4th and Littlest one) She had a fiancé who was Mad with a Lust for power and Control over things he Didn’t need power and control over He Treated the Littlest one Cruelly when the other 3 Decided enough was enough when he did...SOMETHING to Part of the Forest so Horrible it turned Dead and Cruel (Subtle Subtle Hint Hint Wink) When all 3 Of them saw the Ruin They went so mad they turned to Darkness and fought him and all his Manmade monstrosities there when the Princess Arrived there was so much Dark energy everywhere it was Bad like Real Bad So with her friends now monsters she Fought them with a heavy heart her heart broke so much she fell afterwards immediately Unintentionally Sending her Kingdom to somewhere nobody knows where she is though...That’s an even bigger question BUT the story would live on as a Weilder of the key blade who slayed 3 evil witches...(Oh yeah did I mention Crowley knows And that’s Why He Let the Girls Attend because he thought they might be the Black Forest Coven Reincarnated And the Prophecy that when they Awakened the “Keys to their Hearts once more” They’d Free The Princess From her Mirror Prison Oh Yeah also the princess DID Die But her Reincarnation Goes inside a Mirror and is trapped there when she turns 17 and Doesn’t leave until she dIES ALSO ITS HIS OLDEST DAUGHTER THIS TIME ALSO YES HE HAS 2 DAUGHTERS...Okay lemme just calm down..Also yeah she thought of the Princess System) but After a Wish got safe haven for all Keyblade Weilders (I have KH Oc’s other then these don’t ask Longer story they live and basically founded Fortana Haven) I guess the Isle of Light Rose from the Shadow Realm to be just that oh yeah also the Isle of light is literally that kingdom if ya didn’t know

Okay this Place Basically a Modern Fairytale Everything is so Rustic~ but they Have Cafe’s and Stuff~ They’re still very much in Development as a City..or town..or whatever Boss of everything Locket Clover (An OG KH OC) Runs Everything Wonderfully she welcomes everything with open arms and If you wanna run a shop or want a Building for a particular Thing or Activity she’s Pretty open to the idea unless it’s Incredibly Dumb But she will make you get The Wood and Supplies and The Bricks and the Brick Stick Sauce or whatever it’s called she might get give you help constructing but dang is she a firm believer in “DIY” but I like how she’s Determined to Have a Good Balance between Industrial and Rural In fact there is a Mall (God knows how it got there) And that’s pretty much all there is for your Juicy Capitalism Fix She Runs “Hope Stir” Workshop according to Her boyfriend Ephmer It was always Called a workshop but for the longest time she did EVERYTHING Subtle Farmwork And Animal Husbandry ACTUAL Workshop things all cause she wanted to help every Weilder she knew out and made sure they had a place for food and such She is a bit of a Moneyholic but when you’ve been doing what she’s been doing I bet you’d be too overall While it doesn’t have much History yet Fortana Haven (4-Tana is how you say it btw) Is truly well a Haven

The...Crown of the Isle of Light Before We came to the Isle for the first time Apparently Everyone In Fortana thought it was Haunted! Which..Fair enough Before we Placed the Princess Medals (Okay QUICK SUMMARY OF THIS BIT Okay so in the KH Mobile game there’s Medals and I wanted them to be in my story basically They’re Memories formed into powers when all my Oc’s Met the Princess’s Of Heart They Each got a Medal Representing them and then the Medals Restored the Castle I left out some details but basically that’s it) This Castle is the BOMB There’s Cool Pretty Princess Room’s And a Bedroom JUST FOR SLUMBER PARTIES!! And it’s just a good Place to Vibe and Hang out with your friends (I’m sorry I’m about to Lore Dumb all over this place) The Princess’s Fiancé Made a Crown for her before she could put it on he put some of his Subconscious in it poor Eden When she wanted to get stronger for Malleus (Malleus is her adoptive big brother and she was upset cause she felt she wasn’t good enough ran away to get power and found the crown) It really did almost completely overtake her I shudder thinking about it “Kachow”...Ew (The fiancé said that a lot ok) a lotta bad stuff happened here but as selfish as this may sound I feel like I earned my spot here and I wanna keep sharing it with my friends

So Much Happened here as well probably Tragedy I can’t comprehend there is a few good places about this place though Diane likes to Scavange around Here for Interesting Debris Eden doesn’t like the Air around here but she says she finds Interesting Jewels here and Latte says the same thing so there is good to be found here We all come here every so often to try to help..Anything grow but they don’t call this deadland for nothing but still ya can’t give up hope! I wanna grow some beautiful Lillies here one day! Also hey! Also pretty cool name (Matter-RI-a is how you say it btw) All the sadness that happened here it actually did make the land rich in Metal if nothing else there’s even a whole Cavern we found in the mountains...it almost killed us but we found it

She does NOT let a lotta people at once though Heck she doesn’t like Skye that much from what I can tell but she makes an Exception for ~friends~ So...BE NICE TO OUR CUTE MITELLA I’m glad we have a Convient Place for Blitzball practice and also Swimming around with pretty Mermaid Tails (New Nix Mermaid Action Fashion Doll only 25.99! Get it for your Child or they’ll cry!! Also a 5 dollar Boy doll take his Shirt off! That’s it!) Hyde Mi And Skye are kinda an Iconic Trio Mi Also Teaches how to swim with a mermaid tail better for the Weilders who wanna go to Atlantica Hey Mermaids gotta eat so get a Swim Lesson! (And also a transforming Mermaid Doll!)

Well tbh I have the least to say because it’s Appeal is simple ADVENTURE AND MYSTERY! Lots can happen in Bianco Nero it’s Basically the Base foundation of the whole Isle! Presumably cause it’s the Black Forest or was at least though it can be dangerous it’s the only place heartless are know to appear in the whole isle (So where you’ll grind In the Video Game that’ll definitely happen :Says the girl who can’t commit to a single comic) They drop all sortsa cool stuff! Heck you can FIND Cool stuff just...Around so..Yeah!!

color grading/editing rant about supernatural ahead, you’ve been warned.

are we as a society not going to discuss how the supernatural’s color palette in season’s 1-5 went from this:

this show has been lost in translation in terms of both writing and visual style from kripke’s original vision, it pains me so much to see this happen to spn. the older seasons have this grainy, gritty, darker color palette (mostly because seasons 1-3 were actually shot on 35mm film) that for some reason, even with digital technology, the editors on who color grade this show, cannot seem to replicate the look. i tried to play fair and pick lighter scenes as opposed to the usual ‘dark spooky hunt’ that is an often visually reoccurring sight in the early seasons and like... it’s still dull, but it makes the show feel cohesive and fall in line with what aesthetic they were going for.

but the things that always stood out to me the most about the newer season’s colors were just how pink everyone looks, how vibrant the colors are, (even in darker scenes they manage to add blues, purples and greens) , and just the way the trees look, they’re so green now. it’s literally a rainbow of color every episode (the artist in me is screaming YEAH but the spn fan says NOO)

the scene that first had me thinking about this issue was the scene with jack and lucifer in 13x23, the one in the forest, note how bright the green is in comparison with how neutral our characters are, the bg ends up popping more than them which sucks in terms of visual hierarchy. jack gets so lost in the frame too, i even edited it alongside photos from season 1 to match the early season’s color palette to the best of my ability and... wow...

even with color to color comparison with this orange, side by side, with season 2 and season 13... like the difference is so astounding. i understand that one is indoors, the other is outdoors, but gosh, even the outdoor scenes in the early seasons, characters always had that grey/olive/navy shadow that’s never present in recent episodes. their faces always have this orange, pink salmon undertones that are especially noticeable on their noses, lips and corners of the eyes.

and a side by side comparison with the same character, same mood, and the same setting. about 10 years apart (season 5 vs season 14) it’s so clear how the editors color grading the episodes made everything look slightly warmer/pink, despite this being clearly lit with blue light and the setting is such a dark, depressing place. during this episode we get flashbacks of the original scene in season 5 and it gives me whiplash to see the different color palettes seconds apart from each other.

here’s also 2 more edits of screen caps from season 9 and season 15, edited to make them feel more early-season ish and it’s crazy how much the mood has changed with a little de-vibrancy and hue shifting.

what i’m getting at is that this show has changed so much from what it originally used to be just at a visual level and i so wish they could at least try to keep the same consistent color palette after kripke left, instead of picking highly saturated and vibrant colors to light and place our characters in. supernatural now looks like 5x8’s changing channels, where the editors specifically graded the episode to look like something completely different than what it actually is.

color grading is so important in film/tv, it’s essential to a visually cohesive and coherent story. this is visually telling spn’s audience that ‘hey this is a different show from what it used to be’ from the first episode of season 6 onward.

First thought: Homestuck^2 should've just been called Beyond Canon, and more people should call it that.

The 2 was put on for chuckles; HS trending the day it was announced with it being a sequel spoke enough about how such a thing shant be underestimated, and why Homestuck is ABSOLUTELY more than just our small twitter crowd (and the scrap of us still on tumblr). I say that because remembering the Beyond Canon part slightly reassures me about the fact that this is a fanwork that will do some weird shit, and things I don't agree with, but isn't something that I have to subscribe to enjoying all the way with how I engage with Homestuck.

Homestuck 2 is not the canon continuation. Homestuck 2: Beyond Canon, is an OFFICIAL continuation.

Not having it on such an important stool and as the only content we all are only allowed to digest should come from both people who obsessively dislike it, and people who defensively support it. If a character says they kick babies then I can say, hey that's weird, maybe not great writing, but I can pretend they don't in my content, and i dont have to send threats or call people cishet white men for it! and, it's an absolutely great thing that we were all encouraged to create our own ideas without anyone who's influenced us to do so squinting their eyes when we actually go through with it. Glad I don't have to put this story up to the expectations of being a sequel to a 11 year, worldwide IP that's shooketh the internet landscape since it's merely optional, Death of the Author persists, and ideas aren't just dominated and revolved around the perspective of a 1% in this entire fanbase.

That said.

As an OFFICIAL continuation versus a canon one, HS2 is ok. It certainly has that fanfiction vibe, and a story it wants to tell. I can't really tell what that story is since we have like, 10 sub plots rn though. There's not a real a clear indicator on where the focus of main conflict is that connects all these stories together.

I thought that the prose in replacement of Vriska's battle was jarring, but not teeerribly surprising for the format HS2 is going for. It's more so using drawings to compliment text versus Homestuck's usual of panels being side by side with visual importance, or even itself being the one compliment. It sorta feels weird tho that it brought old fans back in with art just for them to get sneered at when they get a bit upset that there won't be main staples of art known to progress the story forward.

Also people who mock people for “having to read homestuck” knowing there’s language barriers and struggling focus from those who’ve been use to something that was never so dense, are ridiculous.

Personally this could be solved by knowing how old flashes worked, having way more artists on the team, maybe even an art director if not already, and noting that we're not asking for the next Cascade. Rome wasn't built in a day, but Rose Ride sure was, and Homestuck’s animation is absolutely not the same as a 12-24 framed 12 minute cartoon. That, or just snuff the illustrative art as a whole since it's very clear on where the focus is.

I’m sure you’re not here trying to see my opinions on how the outer workings are though, versus plot.

Uuuuh, let's see. Yiffy's still a name I don't care to use until I eventually get tired of any of my art that do not show up in tags. This is fine and not as offensive as people are saying it is. Minors who want to cosplay this character don't have to call themselves this character. Not wanting to be one letter away from accidentally entering a very NSFW space of twitter is fine. Also the lot of people call Tavros, Tavvy.

I hope Kanaya's anger at being cucked is actually seen versus being implied through fan guesses and another character having to say she was.

Roxy needs to be more of an involved character. Where are they during all this?

Jane should have a mention of her relations to HIC being a main/bad influence on her current parallels to Alternian dictatorship.

The PRE-RETCON GROUP should have a fun one-shot update for fans who like them, since they oughta be around if they fell through the ghost hole. Most of them. The sprites that aren't Jasprosesprite should also show up too, since they're around.

Aaaaaand I think we should be extra careful going into the future when it comes to the alien rebellion. It's weird that a lot of the writers are white and toy around with concepts that can be a not so great parallel to racism. Currently not great timing rn! If the characters are going to remain aracial, but with them still doing not much to reference other non-white earth cultures or getting new hair cuts that have different textures (looking at you, Rose), we shant make the species with actual biological benefits a racism commentary. the xeno joke at least had a play on words. If any writer has happened upon this then a, please don't get mad at me again haha, and b, consider having more black writers or directional assistance on your squad. You know who they are.

In the future. I casually want the ghost from the Dream Bubbles to be shown since it's a big elephant in the room to not have a single one of them in the bg despite a load of them appearing from the ghost whole. Don't gotta give them speaking lines, especially the dancestors. I personally don't know if I want that right now.

I also hope in the future that we don't get HS content that is only going to revolve around HS2, if it's optional enough to engage with without being the only option. That's why PQ could ended a bit better for me, and why I hope it's not the main thing that's keeping Hiveswap on the backburner. I don't think it's farfetched to consider that multiple HS content could come from more than just one team; to relieve work load, but to also strengthen the idea that Homestuck can be a various amount of perspectives when it comes to the ideas fans have. The most dedicated fans leading the direction of the story is not just a handful of them. If anything, at least acknowledge the massive ass fan projects going on once in awhile to showcase the different avenues.

"Hey Cro, you sure have bitched about this alot. Do you have anything good to say? Why don't you stop reading if you hate it so much!"

Not every comment needs to be golden, love. Again, some of these decisions I eck at, but ultimately they're just words on a computer that I'm not holding anyone at gun point to do, and I'm curious to see how the story handles itself going forward, since again, it's just a fanwork. Sometimes I wish to not only see where the plot goes, but to see a writer's craft in action.

Good Things:

The Art. Again, please have more artists. It'd help so much, especially since the main one is also double timing for VE. That said, HS2 sticks out to me because of the way the color composition is used. Aside from hair and other tiny things, I haven't seen black used a lot, which makes colors pop. It's really nice to look at. I hope we get more sharper styles of character in the future, since it builds on nostalgia and makes the trolls feel much less like they're from Repiton, but I can deal with it for the most part. I also like that one panel where the omega kids and vriska are talking in the dark room, and based on where they're standing, the text aligns. Tasty as hell.

Meat and Candy still do hold neat logic in the direction the stories go. Candy, while it could be more tasteless in some areas, is chaotic and too much of a good thing. Meat is having something a little more straightforward, though I'm not sure quite yet where it's going. I always found Candy to be the part of the epilogue that actually entertained me the most, from how much of a surreal Robot Chicken skit at 3am it felt. Sometimes the jokes slapped real nice and made me wonder, going in, how is this monkeys paw gonna play out and, hopefully, make people laugh or smirk like they got a good roast at themself?

The slightly episodic feel of each update is what I wanted from the Epilogues, so it's interesting to see that play out when it comes to switching different perspectives.

The bonus updates get points for featuring characters that a lot of us have been wanting to see for ages.

Hopefully this isn't unpopular, but I think the tension of Yiffy's introduction was nicely composed and written (ignoring some of the things I wish for Jane). It leaves you with enough want to see what'll happen next time. You could also say that despite her growling and making a lot of noise, it's not actually bad writing: I see it as the audience being forced to see her in the same perspective that Jane see's her; a dog. Upon no context we're seeing the same thing while knowing things are obviously off, and once we see this character in a new environment where their personality shines, it'll have a bigger impact her own character being humanized. So I like that.

Okay, I think that's all I got. I improv wrote most of this; hopefully I won't be taken out of context since I don’t think that HS2′s writing should ultimately be a judgement of the writers as people, nor treated as if they should hold the same unhealthy work environment that Andrew forced himself to do when writing the og comic. And I'm still like, donating to the patreon and everything, lol.
