A lot of adults women behave like incels but less violent and more manipulative. They usually love the cringe romance movies where the main girl is average looking and not like the other girls and manage to make the badboy soft. Generally they hate hot girls bc they are jealous (see the way Skr stans talk abt Ino and feel victorious bc they "won" against her, the hot girl). Those women are full of insecurities, thats why Skr is so relatable.
The way Skr tries to not think about the fact Sske dont wanna spend time with her is the same way some irl women ignore that their husbands are cheating, and if they cant ignore it they will attack the other women but they will NEVER leave the guy. All their self worth is based on having a bf/husband.
Then there are some lesbian/bi women who stan her as an act of feminism. She is a female character who got what she wanted so its a win apparently. Fortunatly those ppl are minority bc as a queer woman and feminist, it is very embarrassing to read those takes. I'm all for uplifting women and for them to get everything they desire but not at the expense of non sexist men. Plus, Skr dont even look so happy at the end of the day. So is it really a win for her and women?
Yeah that makes sense. But it's sad isn't it? Because even trying to have a dialogue with them isn't helpful. There's no point having it if they aren't ready to be receptive to it.
Sakura really sees no contradiction between what she says and what she does.
And yet...
Lol. Till only two days ago, she was found styling her hair in the middle of chuunin exams, all skinned knees and having suffered minor injuries, while her team mates were working. She let her hair grow in the first place because she thought Sasuke liked it. Lol.
What impression can it possibly give to the reader? Kishi had to stress on it too, with another character this time.
Why would Kishi stress so much on Sakura and her obsession with her hair, just to make her say something totally hypocritical five chapters down? Lol. Kishi is very clever about writing his characters act according to the character traits given to them. Like for example, the panel below, Kakashi acts according to his character (where he has a blindspot for Sakura's negative shades) thinks Sakura is not the type to brag when she is actually exactly the type to brag.
Lol, Sakura's whole personality is about being obsessive for Sasuke which in turn makes her violently jealous of Naruto and Ino. She beats Naruto up regularly for no apparent reason and harasses Ino, even though that girl did nothing but try to help her. And she brags, it's the only thing she does properly. Lol.
And yet, she is always bragging, showing off. From start to end.
And I am positive I am missing some panels here lol. She is always looking for external validation. She revels in it. While external validation itself is not a bad thing, since humans need some amount of external validation to measure their abilities, and Naruto does it too, but for him, it's rooted in his quest for acknowledgement and acceptance, so he could make friends and not be ostracized from community. Sakura does it because of her ego. While Naruto has his principles rooted in his belief systems, his emotions and his dream that egg him on to do better, Sakura finds her motivation in the desire to show off and impress people, mostly Sasuke.
She disrespects Ino, Tsunade, and she fights Kaguya while she says this?
Girl, why are you so embarrassing? If you wanna attack her, just do it. Why even mention her being a woman? She wasn't mocking you, she barely even noticed you. You aren't worthy enough for her to notice.
Lol. And things she says about being a woman are just so cringe lol.
No one underestimates her because she is a girl, in fact Kakashi coddles her because she is a girl. She is underestimated because despite training, she is just weak and unskilled, as compared to her cohorts. And if she is skillful, we don't see it in the same proportion measured against the way she talks about herself. Tsunade never had to sing about her being a woman and yet people are bloody scared of her strength. Temari never had to mention it, neither did Kushina. Chiyo certainly briefly talks about how women always get the short end of the stick in their male driven society, but she not only belongs to a much older generation that has seen a hell lot, she is a master puppeteer and a superior warrior in her own right, she has earned it.
It would have been fine if only Sakura had actually consistently kept her word, proven herself through actions and not just empty words. Because when she doesn't, it reduces the value of those words. I don't know if she really meant it when she said women were fickle. Who? Tsunade? Kushina? Chiyo? Temari? Nope, they didn't give any such impression.
She constantly condescends to Naruto despite him having proved himself to be skillful, strong, the one who wins team seven several battles while she stands in a corner shaking and sweating. Thing is, she realises she makes mistakes. She acknowledges Naruto's strength as well, but she doesn't do anything to change. The whole point of a realization is to work on it and correct your behaviour. She is condescending towards Naruto till the end. Konohamaru takes her down a peg when she is being disparaging towards him and Naruto when they are doing the oiroke jutsu contest. She even hits Konohamaru, and he gets pissed off. So he makes a reverse oiroke jutsu just to show her true face, and that face has a streak of blood trickling down her nose lol. But when Naruto uses it against Kaguya, she again condescends to him. Narusakus are kinda embarrassing tbh, Sakura doesn't get Naruto. She thinks she does but she doesn't. She thinks she gets Sasuke but she obviously doesn't. And yet, she makes her 'strategies' in kage arc around her knowledge of Naruto and fake confesses to him. Naruto rejects her. Lol. She goes to Sasuke and tries to kill him (with a kunai...) by tricking him, only to be attacked, twice. Even when she drugs her cohorts before going to Sasuke, they clock her real plan. Lol.
She overestimates herself, even though it's clear that if she only thought things through, she would be much more successful. She is really blind to her own shortcomings even though she tries but remains unsuccessful, which is even sadder.
She does know Sasuke doesn't wanna spend time with her, she also gets a sense that she will always be much lesser than Naruto in Sasuke's eyes, she knows but she doesn't care. Even if it means long term misery for everyone involved.
Yes, I am sure some women find her character relatable. But relatable doesn't mean everything. I relate to Sasuke and I am very wary of establishing emotional connections but I know it's not something ideal or healthy. Connection is what people thrive on. If I ever started to relate with Sakura, I would really be compelled to take a hard look at myself. Lol.

uh a long time ago someone wrote a post about the love triangle between sakura and naruto, and how im actually at the centre of it. they deleted so if someone else has the link to it please reply with it, but essentially the point was that sakura sees naruto as a rival like she sees ino so shes openly hostile towards him for no real reason other than she cant help herself. then you add the fact that the manga literally presents her as like...a symbol for konoha. i say this because hiruzen puts her on the team for no reason aside from to cause conflict between naruto and i. konoha is really the only source of tension between naruto and i because we have inverse feelings towards it as a result of our unique traumas. he can basically only survive with their acceptance and i can only survive by rejecting them. we both make it clear we dont give a shit about her in the same moment we also make it clear we dont give a shit about konoha, to the point where naruto for a rare moment isnt wearing his forehead protector. i mean shes literally named plant spring...leaf....yknow. then theres also the fact that her entire personality is about getting the most attention and acknowledgment and being popular, what better way to do that than be the best bootlicker pick me?
like i said, shikamaru clearly defines his relationship with naruto as "defending the king". technically the "king" should be the future generations (because he inherited the will of fire from asuma), but he sees naruto as the one who is best poised to do that. the only time you really ever see him interact with naruto is in a capacity even more clinical than kakashi ☠️. he would be more openminded if he respected his dad slightly more, but he sees his dad as a simp (literally) so he pivots to asuma, Thee Alpha Male.
shino isnt bad, hes just there. i have no idea what hes about aside from bugs. but he didnt even use them when he shouldve (defeat orochimaru). i never understand what the fuck hes talking about and he mumbles. kiba is loud because he needs to be the voice for his 2 mealy mouthed teammates.

Kakashi never cared all that much for it, but his natural talent wins out and it isn’t too bad, even when he isn’t really trying
Sakura tries so hard to be perfect at it, but she always needs a bit of a clean up. This makes her furious.
Shikamaru is surprisingly decent at it, because he doesn’t want to go through the trouble of having to do the whole thing over again if Ino catches him with unkempt, poorly-painted nails. Therefore, he can do yours well enough,t oo.
Tenten would make an effort (sometimes), but she isn’t too bothered if they aren’t perfect, tbh. She shouldn’t be your first choice, but she can do a decent job.

Kisame does his best when he must, it’s just...sadly ugly
Naruto wants to be good, and he tries! God, he tries. But he is never quite steady enough for it to truly look good without some outside interference.
Might Guy makes a glorious effort, but he can never wait for his nails to dry properly so they’re always smudged and chipped. This extends to others, so he is not your best bed.
Itachi continues to be blind as a bat and trying his best, but he’s not entirely sure what color he’s even supposed to be painting anyone’s nails, at this point.
Purposefully awful
Hidan would take pleasure in wrecking his manicure, your manicure and anyone else’s.
Sasuke has a steady hand, so he’s truly going out of his way to do a bad job painting nails.
Tsunade does a bad job so no one asks her and also so she can ask others to paint her nails for her.
Tobi would gleefully dunk full fingers in nail polish.

That anon talking about team 7 sannin swap AUs reminded me about that one artist that does that, and who I unfollowed bc they just kept not understanding the characters at all. Their art is very cute, and they are entitled to their own headcanons, but it's annoying when they keep putting down sasuke to elevate other characters they personally like more. They also had a AU where either the clan or just Itachi and Shisui(?) (I don't remember) were still alive, and sasuke felt bad, bc apparently he's just an average joe surrounded by geniuses. One of them being sakura of course, bc called booksmart once at 13 and her thinking highly of herself is enough. They only like the idea of her, but can't stand her how she is in canon, why else are they ignoring major parts of her. Her being an ass is the only thing that's kinda enjoyable about her, bc I knew girls like that when I was that age. Bullied girls that turned into worse bullies, who can be cruel and careless and so so conceited without anything to back it up. No they have to make her into the team mom bc she's the girl, and also they have to overcorrect her flaws, so they can't be accused of misogyny, but I think it's more misogynistic to act as if women are all little baby angels. Some girls are shitty, live with it. Sorry this got very long, but I missed your hot takes!
Genius who never makes a strategy and instead just keeps charging and punching things, and thus often ending up getting her ass handed to her.
Her fight with Ino in part 1 is a great example of this, Ino actually came up with a strategy while utilizing her ability, while Sakura did nothing except punch and talk trash. And of course, Sakura's entire performance in Kage Summit arc is infamous for how many stupid actions she could fit into one arc. She did every possibly thing wrong she could. And needed to be saved multiple times. And despite being a medic ninja, she couldn't even destroy one eye with a kunai. Some genius we have here...
As for her being a bully, I think Kishimoto knew some girl like her at school, because she just feels too real at times lol

ok how i actually think next gen naruto shouldve gone/who would actually have kids
shikamaru and temari- def actually would. i agree. bc of the thing with asuma and mirai, shikamaru is one of the central characters to the theme of growing up from being taught into a teacher and making a world for today's kids to grow up in thats better than the one you grew up in. he likes kids and is good with kids. temari is the type to not super like kids in a general sense and she's not THAT good with them, but she thinks her own kid is the greatest thing in the whole world and better than every other kid that exists. kids like her because of her cool air but she doesnt get why since she's not that attentive to kids that aren't hers. she'd give shikadai cool hairstyles
naruto- he really loves kids but recognizes that he's too busy to be able to give all his attention to raising one, so he settles for visiting the school a Lot and being the cool uncle to his friends' kids, which he does pretty effortlessly. unmarried, not interested in getting married, his best friend is sasuke
sasuke- NO what the fuck.... he would not. he doesn't really care for kids and by design of his JOB is on the move constantly. he knows he couldn't raise a kid and it never even crosses his mind that thats even a thing potentially on the table. unmarried, not interested in getting married, his best friend is naruto
sakura- would probably get married but not to any of her old classmates. she likes kids but her passion lies elsewhere and she doesn't want to split her attention between raising a child and being a top ranking jounin, teaching medical ninjutsu classes, etc. she really loves her friends' kids though and occasionally goes through phases where she wants a kid REAAALLY BAD before she remembers again that she actually doesn't really
hinata- would also get married but not to any of her old classmates. would have kids. sorry i dont have a lot to say on her but she is naruto's canonical wife so i can't not talk about her
rock lee- i dont know exactly how metal lee comes about in canon but i think its perfect tbh. no one really KNOWS where this kid came from he just kind of appeared. lee is not married, and he feels a little sad about it sometimes, but guy won't let him feel bad about it for long
tenten- married to a woman. has a kid
kiba- married with a kid
shino- married to a man. no kids no plans for kids. he likes teaching everyone else's kids instead
ino- not married, swings between wishing she was and being glad she isn't. really wants to the "the cool aunt" to shikadai and chocho, which she succeeds at sometimes but they mostly just think she's trying too hard
sai- i honestly don't know. sells paintings.
choji and karui- kind of left field but sure. and i think chocho is cute
gaara- he adopts 3 kids in canon, i think that works. he just wants them to have a better life than he did. not married, doesn't plan to get married but life is full of surprises
apparently orochimaru has a kid via some sort of asexual reproduction, the kid's name is mitsuki and he's obsessed (not my word choice) with boruto. funny as fuck. packs him pb&j for school with a little note. KEEP

AN: I've seen all of Naruto and up to season 3 of Shippuden so just keep that in mind if I don't have all my Naruto facts right. Also I wanted to throw Sai and Kakashi into this one as a bonus since these boys don't get enough love in the tk community so thats why there are in there too lol

- So like canonically this silly boy is tklish and has been tkled a bit through the show
- So like I hc that most of his friends already know his spots and when he’s being annoying they poke his side and are like “stop or I’ll keep going”

- The whole time he just keeps talking about missions and normal stuff while giving Sasuke and Sakura this look thats like "loosen up or you're next"
- He tries to go easy on them when it comes to teasing but if he needs to knock Naruto or Sasuke down a level he won't hold back
- They know he means it all in good fun though and he always makes sure to stop when his students have had enough
- Most people don't try to tickle Kakashi cause they fear his wrath
- Though there is one person who isn't scared
- Might Guy will tickle Kakashi after he loses to him if he feels sour about it or just if he thinks Kakashi needs a laugh

When you think about it, Sakura was kinda a terrible friend. There’s not one friend she didn’t emotionally or physically hurt (unintentionally or not). Naruto was her main target and I can see why people dislike her for it. She always made everything about her or about Sasuke.
She cut Ino off bc of Sasuke. Called her a pig and everything. She knew Hinata loved Naruto and even says it herself when looking at her being hurt but then go and hugs him during Pain arc (still to this day I feel like Kishimoto did her dirty bc he had Hinata almost die for him just for him not to do anything with it. That hug or moment should’ve been with Hinata. Kishimoto did her dirty so many times even in The Last). If any girl did that to Sasuke, Sakura would not like it at all. Not only that, she tried to emotionally manipulate Naruto (knowing again Hinata loves him) and gets mad when he didn’t fall for her idiotic plan. She left Kiba, Lee and Sai unconscious in an unknown territory to pursue Sasuke alone just to not go through with the plan. Not only did she put herself in danger, had to be saved by Naruto and Kakashi, but she also put her teammates lives in jeopardy.
I couldn’t stand her for all of these reasons and more. Her bad moments outweighed her good moments for me. What do you think of her? I don’t hate her but I also don’t like her in canon
Before I start this, letting everyone know, I'm not looking for a debate about my personal opinion on this character, been there done that not doing it again. Do not @ me with rebuttals or arguments about her. My opinion is set in stone. I'm merely answering this ask. If you like Sakura, keep liking her, you don't need me to like her too in order to do that.
Now.
I make it no secret that I do not like canon Sakura.
I don't like her on a fundamental level.
To me, her personality was extremely annoying, shallow, unnecessarily cruel at times and overall repugnant. She was selfish, mean and whinny for way too long in the show with no real reason that I found palatable. She had moments in the original and Shippuden where she seemed to turn over a new leaf and showed a glimpse of what she could have been, but then she'd completely undermine her progress with the behaviors and actions you described, anon, and I couldn't ever get on board with her. She was a lot better in The Last and for once I found her decent, but it wasn't enough to change my mind about her overall.
She's just missing key components for me to enjoy her character.
The Naruto world has a lot of flawed characters, people that did bad/morally questionable things or had abrasive and distant attitudes, however, a lot of them were relatable and sympathetic due to their tragic backgrounds or them being forced into a terrible situation, not excusing their actions, but their situations prompted understanding and empathy for what sent them down the path of darkness or hatred in the first place. Their story made it possible to like them as the flawed humans they were. Gaara, Sasuke, Zabuza, Nagato, Konan, even Neji, these are people that did bad things, but when you look at them in their entirety, past and present, there's a thread of understanding that makes your heart bleed for them.
Then, I look at Sakura's behavior, check out her past and present and I'm like 😒why tf are you so mean and nasty???? She got teased about her forehead as a kid sure, but had Ino there to help her work through it, then she got into a spat over a guy and ended a friendship...
I'm sorry but that does not garner any understanding or tolerance of her behavior from me at all. To me, the violence she visited on Naruto FREQUENTLY, the insults and selfishness was a part of her personality, not some lingering trauma that needed healing, or a defense mechanism she'd built up as a way to protect herself, she was just mean and that is why I found her repugnant.
There's no excuse for it.
Choji, Kiba, Shikamaru didn't treat Naruto like trash, there was no reason for her to do it other than her nasty personality. They were all around the same age so the 'she's a kid and didn't know better' is out the window. For all her flaws, Sakura is a very smart character, she knew how to be kind, she did it for Sasuke all the time. She was kinder to Lee faster than she was Naruto.
There's no excuse I'm willing to hear. I didn't like her behavior then, I don't like it now, and no amount of twisting words, bullying or arguing is going to change my stance on it (though many have tried, lol) I think if fans of her want to be upset with anyone, be upset with Kishsi who butchered her rather than the people that didn't like the butchered character he served them. He made her distasteful to a lot of people and never, imo, rectified it in a meaningful way and I don't think people are wrong for not liking her.
So that is what I think of her.
I hate canon Sakura, original through Shippuden, but I like her potential which I think really presented itself in The Last.
Sakura is my second most hated character personality wise, RTN Hinata is number one 🤭

naruto girl charas SUCK. and not the charas themselves, i LOVE LOVE LOVE sakusa, ino, tenten, temari, ya name her ! i love her, but the creator just writes them so horribly. he puts them in a light and most fans shit on women bc of their charas when really—they’d be liked if he gave a true backstory and plot for how they act they do.
sakura is known to be ‘two faced’ as she’s sweet outside but has a raging personality inside and everyone hates her for being obsessed with sasuke—but she’s a CHILD!! she gets more development once you meet her future teacher, and it makes me love her so much more bc it shows how strong she is and how CAPABLE she is. she’s more than just a girl with a silly crush // more than a girl who hides her true inner feelings. she cares for everyone around her and is seen as weak when she isn’t.
hinata is known to be a shy girl who’s obsessed with naruto, and she’s one of the strongest characters but the creator makes her weak. tenten canonically have the strongest weapons in the series but the creator makes her weak. temari is seen as strong only for her plot and in the future she’s discarded. all these women are thrown to the side because their entire future plot is to surround who they’re marrying—men. there’s only one female chara i can think of that doesn’t exactly surround a man but she’s still heavily influenced by two bc ones in love with her and the other was her childhood friend. (really tryna not spoil HAHA)
and even female villains, which there aren’t many i can think of, ALLLL SURROUND A MAN! long story short, kishimoto is a POS and probably has never known a woman on an actual personal level. plus the series is a rip off of HXH anyways 😇 emo chara family dies and they have red eyes ? and there’s a big bad group where the person who was responsible for it is homed there ? anyways naruto was my first anime besides DBZ when i was a lil kid and i love it and will cherish it to my heart but only bc i like the charas, i hate kishimoto. he’s dumb. and probably a 50 y/o virgin. (did u kno he got married and didn’t take his wife on a honeymoon bc of he was writing naruto? OKAY YEA THATS WHAT I WAS THINKING!! i so badly want to get to like these characters, but the way kishimoto writes them is just. so bad. SO TRUE they all revolve around a guy and its so..*chokes the air* like in the land of the waves we see that she has the best control of her chakra (which ig makes her perfect to be a medical nin; ik like tiny bits and pieces of what happens in shippuden but also not rlly LMAO), but she never uses it!! she was never involved in any fights; she j stood there because she was written to be like that!!
i was also thinking that since they are like 10-12, they're not going to be the most fun characters; like at that age, children are v annoying LMFAO but its not 100% an excuse because the guy characters aren't as intolerable ;-;;;
im intrigued to see how tsunade is going to be written because like. shes HOKAGE. and SO COOL!! so yes.

Modern AU! Naruto perfume headcanons bc why not:
(English is not my first language so I apologise for any mistakes)
• Naruto would absolutely rock Coffee Break by Maison Margiela, if he did some emotionally hard job like psychotherapy or coaching.
(Sasuke would cling to him on the days he feels drained whenever he wears that smell bc lavender and coffee is a great combo for energy levels yet no haste vibe, very grounding and balancing).
Most of Naruto's perfumes have coffee, sandalwood or citrus notes. Patchouli ones for when he feels truly extra.
• Whenever Sasuke wears Killian's Moonlight in heaven to their movie nights at home or to parties Naruto goes absolutely nuts because of the contrasts and this lingering milky gentle feeling but with sweetness that you would only associate with Sasuke if you know him well. Peak eroticism aimed at one person only. Other people I would assume, mostly hear the top of the pyramid and find it a "bright and fun party smell" on Sasuke.
But on a daily Sasuke wears something more "chill", fresh with a hint of floral, but not sweet. Cedar wood is a must/base in most of his daily ones.
• Haku in Princess by Killian? Stunning. Green tea bitterness + ginger punch + sweetness. "I am a cutie but can still beat you in whatever context" vibe.
Loves peach and honey notes but also unexpectedly owns heavy night-out perfumes with seductive yet masculine vibes. (Leather and pink pepper based ones for example and anything spicy af in general). He got that kick, you know.
• Itachi would wear a lot of herbal and woody smells. Those that are even "too bitter" for some ppl. Like wormwood, pine, bergamot, vetiver, oak moss etc. Absynth. Paired with gin and cognac tones. But that's a more "daily" vibe. If there is an important event – definitely something musky, with a hint of cardamom or cloves.
• Shisui wearing Jazz Club (Maison Margiela). Let me in that club. Sage notes with tobacco + that rum and liqueur and black pepper, hint of freshness. Oh, yes.
Also, oud scents. He would. Like if u know, u know.
• Sasori would love fougere and floral combos. Something like Mugler ones but a little calmer in nature. Maybe with some aquatic notes.
• Sakura would rock any floral+fresh combos but hate them on herself and find them "boring". Even the best ones. What she likes is leather+musk+rum+spice, and she pulls it off well with the right outfits. Mostly wears "male" targeted perfumes and does not give a single fuck.
Ironically enough, Sasori likes her better in those biker vibes perfumes, but suggests her to try a mix between floral and "clean" ones for work. Sakura ends up liking those too.
• Ino would be in between the dessert and floral ones, but always with a woody/heavily bitter or aquatic base to balance it out. Something along the lines of cedar wood + rose + violets + hint of vanilla cake. Elegant yet not boring at all.
• Neji. I think he would like surprisingly light, "clean" smells. Like fresh laundry + some hints of pear or jasmine on the daily. But for the formal situations where he needs to put up a front he would lean towards aquatic and "cold", "monumental" ones.
• Tenten loves and makes the most out of warm and spicy perfumes. Orange + cinnamon + sandalwood? She'll rock it.
• Kakashi would wear something light but "cold", maybe aquatics with lime/hint of bergamot. (Something like Zarkoperfume Cloud Collection No. 2 The Cloud on Ice, but lighter).
But if we're talking bad boy modern au vibes then we're left with more spicy choices. Maybe among the lines of oud + leather + black/chili pepper.
• Obito is a sweet bad boy. So your typical sweet colognes, but he wears a tiny amount of them. Otherwise he feels "overrun" by them.
• Rin and fresh, floral scents would be in harmony, it seems like. But maybe with a hint of orange or any other citrus.
• Iruka would destroy roasted cocoa scents. Like, no jokes. He would. Some unexpected smokiness for nights out when he's not in his teacher mode.
(I have a headcanon that Iruka has some fire, a twist to him, but you can skip that. For those who feel the same: imagine him with a smoky, slightly sweet cognac scent. Damn).
• Kakuzu smells of money and bitchiness (tobacco + alcohol), I don't make the rules.
• Deidara. Gasoline smelling ones. Right? I mean– but! On good days – surprisingly sweet dessert notes with a twist. He loves his vanilla and coconut and is very hardcore about it. Ok? Ok.
• Hinata would wear mostly warm, floral fragrances until the revelation that she actually feels a lot more comfortable in more "masculine" and spicy ones. Imagine her in a suit with the aroma of black pepper, leather and apple notes? Boss.
• Minato and scents that remind you of the sea and sunlight seems about right? With some woody undertones.
• Tsunade is a violets and musk woman, as far as I am convinced.
• Kushina giving rose hip and hibiscus with some chili pepper. Yeah.

Hi! I watch/read a lot of anime/manga, so I figured I'd discuss the filler thing with you! Hope that's ok!
That's actually a very good point, I never thought about it that way! I think people disregard filler and don't consider it a regular addition to an adaptation, like it happens in other movies or shows, because in most cases its point is not to add anything worthwhile to the story, but to gain some time to not catch up to the manga.
So then, particularly in longer anime such as Naruto or Bleach, there are these entire arcs that completely deviate from the story and are ultimately pointless and stick out like a sore thumb. Whatever happened there is never brought back again, and its characters are promptly discarded as soon as the arc ends. This is something that doesn't happen in adaptations in other media (as far as I know), and what makes filler such an unique thing to anime.
Then there are cases where from some point on the anime completely deviates from its source material, such as Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 or Soul Eater. People don't refer to its original content as filler anymore because there's an understanding that they're doing their own thing.
I think what ultimately draws the line on what's filler or not it's its purpose and of course this is not a black or white thing, or matter of quality. Most people would agree that FMA 2003's ending is garbage, and the episode in DBZ where Goku and Piccolo learn how to drive is incredible. But then in cases where filler adds to and elevates the source material, can we still refer to it as such? That's a more difficult question! But I think we can all agree that Naruto's filler is pretty pointless, it made the show near unwatchable, and it's as fillery as filler can get. It's there to fill time and nothing else, no one's happy that it exists but alas it's there.

Thank you so much for your perspective I really appreciate it. (Also I feel like my tags were misleading. I watch a lot of anime I'm just like... Sitting in the corner doing my own thing bc I find active participation in fandom tends to be bad for my specific combination of issues)
But my biggest toxic trait is I fucking love like... 60% of the Naruto filler arcs (they're the only time my most beloved shino gets any real airtime and he DESERVES IT)
BUT based on every conversation I've had with my friends about this, this is because I have very different... Requirements when it comes to the stuff I like. The filler arcs are silly and fun and I enjoy them immensely (the only one I couldn't watch to completion was the robot Naruto one). Have a lot of complicated feelings about them though. Like The Three-Tails' Appearance is great because shino gets to be competent and Lee is a sweetheart and Sakura and Ino get to work together... But if that adorable child plays that leaf whistle one more time I may cry (guess where I'm up to in my rewatch)
Bleach filler is so much worse. Bount arc wasn't even enjoyable 0/10 couldn't even be saved by hot villains. I watched all but one arc of Naruto. I did not grant the same to bleach, it burned me too many times.
DBZ filler is complicated though because a lot of the filler has canon stuff sprinkled in which I think is a more seamless way to buy time - sprinkling filler into existing arcs rather than having just... 76 episodes of near continuous filler NARUTO. I understand the constraints were different though.
(fma:b is one of my favourites and I sort of just pretend 2003 didn't happen. It has some good points but I just can't. The author told them to go with their hearts and I respect that they committed but results were questionable)
Point is I think it's really interesting to see how other people interact with media because I'm mostly just sitting here like "are my favourite little guys talking? Brilliant. 10/10 you're doing great sweetie etc" im stressed out by literally everything else, a few episodes of some kids trying to unmask their teacher is enrichment in my enclosure

Debunking some SS Delusions
Okay so I was reading a post by @carmenserenity123456 and I was amazed by some points a SS fan made to sail her ship, which just showed their poor reading comprehension.
But this is in fact a general idea that all SS fans share so, here we go.
1- Because S´+S had a baby that means they love each other. They always argue with us about if we know how babies are made. Of course, babies are made bc of sex -one of the ways nowadays tho-
Saying a couple who has a child is happy and love each other JUST BECAUSE they had that child is a big ass fallacy, and shows poor knowledge about the world. Having a kid can be proof that that couple had sex ( in most cases) but it's not a symbol of happiness at all, not even in anime, not in tv shows, not in movies. Want an example? Gendo Ikari.
2-SS fans try to justify Sakura's poor knowledge about Sasuke past and history, saying that Sasuke's past is just his past, and she "respects" it. Well no, she doesnt even respect it because she is not interested in it. No interest is not the same as showing respect.
And it's important, absolutely important, to know your life's partner past, because that past is what made that person till that day and all those days coming, and that you will spend by your side. Also, learning about someone's past comes with understanding, something SHE WAS NEVER ABLE TO understand Sasuke. So from this point, this ship starts sinking because she never showed a single piece of understanding him. If that was the case, she wouldn't think the only way to "stop" him was killing him or pretending her so-called Love was going to stop his pain and battle against Naruto.
She doesnt know anything about his past, his family, his ideals, ideology, pain, loss, his feelings for Naruto (however you like to call them) and especially she doesn't know ANYTHING about Itachi, or the path he had to go through.
Saying Sakura respects Sasuke is a fallacy as big as a house, and saying she just doesnt want to know about his past is a red flag too, from sasuke side who didnt share about his memories with his "wife" and from her not wanting to actually more about the person who is the father of her child, at least.
2- When Sarada stopped Ino from greeting Sasuke, i dont know how they cannot see this. Who in the fuck will tell Sarada about this more than Sakura? Sai, Temari, Shikamaru??? Even her fans to these days still continue on fighting SaiIno for god knows what reason. And also that behaviour from sarada was a copycat from her mother, exactly..
3-That person justifies Sakura behaviour with Sarada, saying Sakura is a human. Of course she is a human, but that's not a way to treat your kid, especially with the great strength she has, she destroyed the damn house. Do you SS peeps think this is okay? If your so hated Hinata does the gentle push to Boruto, i bet your ass you would condemn her, and it's fine. But please.
Maybe its acceptable if she slapped Sarada, nonetheless Sarada was asking something absolutely true about her origins. And yes sakura behaviour is human, but human is not the same as justifiable.
Gendo Ikari was also a human, Shou Tucker was also human, and a i can go on.
Justifying Sakura stupid and childish behaviour with her daughter, using -as an abuser- her great strenght just to show superiority and make her child shut up, is human yes, and it's dangerous. Dont use that poor excuse, you fools.
4-Say that Sakura has nothing to show off about getting Sasuke duck because back in the day when they were 12 he SAID TO EVERYONE HOW SMART SHE IS¿¿¿¿¿¿ Okay so this is bad reading comprehension at all, and it's delusion and basically imagining something that didnt happen.
I think you know what pannel we are talking about but Sasuke just told to her, he didnt say it out loud, he just said in a tone that she and naruto could hear, that she was good at genjutsu.
For example, Rock lee said out loud that he liked Sakura, in front of everyone so they can hear it.
And SS said that, when Ino hugged Sasuke it showed how humble Sakura is, because she could say to Ino she had no chance because Sasuke praised her¿¿¿¿¿¿
If Sasuke actually praised her, she would say it and she would fangirl over the place, she got depressed when he told her to train because she was worse than Naruto, how do you think she would react if he praised her? She is a person who is hungry for any word that comes from Sasuke. So basically she didn't take that as praise or a show of love because in fact IT WASN´T.
And last, "Having a child is a decision" aka means Sasuke and Sakura had sex and made love so they could have Sarada because they love each other so much and a bunch of 699 manga chapters supports them.
No dear, this is not 100% true. You can have a child without expecting it, just come to Latin America, and also that doesn't mean at all child= love. Just go and read some victorian novels, asian dramas, or whatever media, when they have a kid bc of that is what society expects from them.
The Gaiden manga shows how kids can be made bc of an experiment and how they can clone themselves, and how Orochimaru can even "make" children with his lab. A very appropriate theme for a very insecure ship, if Kishimoto wanted them to go lovey-dovey about how they made sarada, then this topic about having kids by almost artificial insemination, wasn't the best move. Also, showing her love-rival actually having her umbilical cord instead of the proper mother, making her love rival assist her, and in fact make the kid actually look like her love-rival (cof cof an uzumaki) is a very bad joke, and If i were and SS i wouldnt be happy at all with this.
And last but no least, Sasuke never said he loved sakura. SS says he said he loves her to sarada. Well no, Sarada actually asked her father if he loves her mother and if they are connected. Sasuke only answered the last part of the question, saying they are connected because of her. And sorry but this is very common divorced-couple behaviour.
If you actually love your couple, you have no problems to say it out loud. He never said those words, not to anyone in canon, and yes I include Naruto here.
Someones would say, its not necessary to say i love you because he loves her anyway, well he doesnt even show it. If you dont have the guts to say those words you can demonstrate it, well he never did it, nor in that gaiden even.
As for divorced couples, they behave like these ones, some couples just stay this way "together" for the sake of the child. Because in fact, as Sasuke said "We are connected because of you" the only thing that they have in common is that kid, and no a kid is not enough to maintain a couple.

honestly I feel like that’s an issue with a large amount of female manga/anime characters, they’re just reduced to liking a boy. their personality is reduced to liking a boy which makes them a lot more annoying, and therefor more hated. it’s just very annoying and so easy to NOT make a female character’s whole story revolve around a crush. that’s not to say there aren’t good written female characters in manga and anime, but a good (bad) portion is just girl has crush on mc.
yeah for real. like the amount of times that uraraka is reduced down to say “what would deku do” like i get she admires him, and i get that there’s a level of respect outside of her crush in that statement, but for the love of god for once can she just think for herself ???? she’s clearly not weak. but yeah for sure a LOT of the female characters are reduced down to their crushes, like ino and sakura. i genuinely don’t agree that after ino was the only person to treat her as a good friend after being bullied as a kid, that she’d just drop her over a boy. it wasn’t even like a symbolic thing of like “okay here is where we go from friends to rivals” it was deadass just “oh u like this boy ??? me too. we’re not friends” LIKE HELLO ?????? WHO DOES THAT ?????? like why would you write that ???? i just rly don’t agree with so much and tbh even tho it’s petty, i just don’t accept it. in my mind, sakura is not nearly as bad as we see her to be. i rly form a different sakura in my head bc i refuse to let her character be watered down to a sasuke fangirl and orphan hater

Naruto wrinkled his nose and shook his head. He refused to repeat himself, Kiba should’ve heard the first time he spoke up and asked the most horrific question that ever passed his lips.
“I really didn’t hear you Naruto.” Kiba frowned and leaned in closer to the blonde. Naruto pondered for a second, realizing that Kiba was in fact serious and did not hear his desperate plea.
“I need you to help me get a date.” Naruto copied Kiba and leaned in closer, whispering the favor into the Inuzuka’s ear.
Kiba pulled back and raised an eyebrow. “You? The man that saved everyone in the 4th war is having an issue getting arm candy?”
Naruto rolled his eyes. “I didn’t have time to practice social etiquette Kiba, I was gone for 3 years and then I was thrown into everything so fast my head spun.”
“Well, what’s the issue?”
“I can’t talk to cute people, okay? I don’t know how to flirt, or even how to pick someone up.” Naruto felt his face heat up as soon as Kiba cracked a smile.
“Fine, but only because I owe ya one.” Kiba hooked his arm around the blonde’s neck. “Who’s the target?”
Naruto never really had anyone in mind, but he assumed that was important and he should’ve thought about it before asking Kiba.
“I don’t know.”
Kiba pursed his lips and thought about who he could set up with Naruto. “Hinata?”
Naruto shrugged. Kiba dragged the blonde to where he knew Hinata was at but was shocked to see his teammate with Sakura in front of the dango shop. Normally it wouldn't be an odd thing but they were holding hands and that was the shock.
“Hey!” Kiba was still holding onto Naruto as he confronted the pair. He pointedly looked at Sakura, then at Hinata, and then their hands.
“Yes, Kiba.” Sakura smirked and then returned to her order. Hinata offered a soft smile to her stunned teammate and an annoyed Naruto. His neck was hurting from being jerked around by the Inuzuka.
“She asked me a week ago. I just never got around to telling you or Shino.” She looked genuinely happy and there was nothing the Inuzuka could say.
“As long as you're happy.” Kiba eyed Sakura and then huffed. “Fuck. Anyone got a good idea for who Naruto could take as a date to the party next week?”
“Kiba!” Naruto shook free from Kiba and frowned. “You don’t have to tell the whole world!”
“Telling the whole world would be just telling Ino and letting her do all the work.” A familiar low voice and smell of cigarette smoke alerted Naruto and once again he was angry and flustered.
“Ino isn’t like that anymore.” Choji sighed. Shikamaru only chuckled and set his eyes on the flustered blonde.
“Speaking of, what about her?” Kiba smiled at Naruto only to get his idea blown by Sakura.
“She’s a lesbian. What about Sasuke?”
“No! He’s like a brother.” Naruto shook his head. This was getting hopeless. The group went around and suggested things but no one was agreeing on anyone. Kiba and Naruto left the dango shop after the conversation shifted to Hinata and Sakura’s relationship.
Naruto was feeling more discouraged than before he asked Kiba to help. What was the point of trying to learn if he couldn’t find someone to practice on?
Kiba stopped in front of Naruto’s apartment and sighed. “Ya know I did promise to help. I can still teach ya how to pick someone up. Or how to flirt if ya want.”
The blonde thought he saw pink blush dusted over the Inuzuka’s cheeks but it could be from the cold air. Naruto did say he wanted to learn and if Kiba was still willing, who was he to refuse. He led Kiba up the stairs to his messy but warm apartment.
“It’s not the cleanest place but I have been working on moving out.” Naruto shoved a few full boxes out of the way and then proceeded to the kitchen to make something warm. It would be ramen if it wasn’t for his guest.
“Did you want some coffee or something warm?” Naruto remembered what Kakashi and Iruka told him to do when he had a guest over.
Kiba got a glimmer in his eye and smirked, “No, you’re warm enough.”
Naruto blinked, which made Kiba snort. “What?”
“Flirting?” Kiba rolled his eyes, a sneaky light danced in his eyes but Naruto was too busy fumbling around in the kitchen to notice.
Once the boys were settled in the living room - Kiba unbearably close to Naruto on the couch - the lesson began.
“I have a few cheesy pick up lines you could use. Sometimes they’re so bad the person you’re tryin’ them out on pities you, and then you can flirt.” Kiba snickered.
Naruto raised an eyebrow and nodded, letting Kiba continue.
“I lost my number, can I have yours?”
Naruto gagged.
“Do you believe in love at first sight, or should I walk by again?”
A shudder released from the blonde.
“I lost my teddy bear - can I hold you?”
“Stop! They’re awful!” Both boys were laughing now, the sound made Akamaru whine.
“Look, I think people are just acting like jerks, you’ll find someone and ya won’t have to stoop to my level.” Kiba put a hand on Naruto’s knee, trying to be comforting but it made the blonde tense up.
“Thanks Kiba.” Naruto unleashed his soft and toothy smile - practically making Kiba’s heart melt.
They said goodbye and the Inuzuka left Naruto’s apartment with a lot on his mind. The afternoon made the man rethink his whole life just to fit Naruto in it more. They didn’t see each other for a while after, Kiba just assumed it was because Naruto was busy learning the duties of the Hokage with Shikamaru, so he continued his normal training schedule.
A week later Kiba walked into his house after a long day of dog training to see his mother waving an open card in his face.
“Secret admirer?” She was naturally nosy, but he honestly didn't know who would send him a card.
“Not that I know of.” Kiba snatched the card and opened it.
‘You must be tired from running through my mind all night.' - Your date to the party. Unless you think this isn't cheesy enough ;)
“Damn that’s a good one.” Kiba laughed, happy that Naruto had picked up on his lesson and that Naruto liked him back.

I dont like Hinata & I do still love Naruto, but it amazes me when SNS blame Hinata & Sakura for the dysfunctional family problems in Buruto. Why is it the woman's fault when the father is the absent figure in their kids lives? Are Naruto & Sasuke not to blame bc they married the "wrong" one? What does the "right" partner have to do w/ being a good parent? There are so many divorced parents that try SO hard to still be good to their kids, bc a good Parent & a good Partner are different things.
First sorry for the late answers as I was trying to figure out what to type. Second, I don’t really interact with the SNS fandom, so I don’t really know what they say about Sakura & Hinata or the family problems with the canon ships in Boruto. As for who to blame for Naruto and Sasuke behavior towards their kids; it should be themselves, as they were both orphans who know what it’s like to not have a father figure in their lives and should make it sure that doesn’t happen with their children.
Regardless of what their jobs are there were opportunities they could of done to spend time with their kids when they did, such as the times sasuke visited kohona before gaiden when sasuke told the kage about kaguya’s clan and castle and Naruto literally can create 1000s of himself and can have his clones do they work while he spends time with his children. Though this seems to be forced drama and bad writing as there is no way these two would be absent fathers.
However I do think there is some valid criticism to be had at Sakura and Hinata, for not talking to naruto and Sasuke and telling them that they need to spend more time with their children given their own pasts of loneliness without their fathers to be around.
For example when Naruto sent a shadow clone to his daughter’s birthday rather than show up himself I don’t recall Hinata getting mad that he didn’t show up, that was Bourto who did that. She should of gone and say to him, that when their kids found out that it was a shadow clone and not really him they got really upset and you should go see them now. Or in the kage meeting in gaiden Sakura should of told Sasuke during that time to meet their daughter because she has never met him before and should do so. Plus I feel if Naruto was with someone like Sakura or Ino, who are often outspoken (when not around Sasuke at least) they would not tolerate Naruto sending a clone to their kids birthday. While with Sasuke say he ended up with Karin she would not let Sasuke be absent from their children life for 12 years.

Heck if Naruto and Sasuke got together I doubt ether one of them would allow the other to a neglectful parent.
Now who our partner is doesn’t determine whether you will be a good parent or not, that is up to the individual person in question. Like you said there are divorced parents that work very hard to raise their children usually without the support of their ex partner, my mother is an example. Though I do feel if you are in a relationship and have children you should make sure your partner spends some time with your children, especially if they are the partner you had your kids with.

You put your car in park and sighed. Finally, you were home after longer than you wanted to admit. But you were happy nonetheless. Which meant you were finally going to address the elephant in the room with Neji. Instead of texting till three am you could finally discuss what you were. You looked at your parents' house in front of you as you got out of the car.
“(Y/N)!” your mom called from the open kitchen window.
You smiled wide and you trekked up the driveway. The house was quiet save your mom’s washing in the kitchen. You found your way in there and gave her a huge hug.
“Where’s dad?”
“In the backyard, he’s doing some gardening and collecting the vegetables for me. You can go see.”
You figured unpacking your car can wait for later. You wanted to go see your dad. You kissed your mom on the cheek before going outside. You were thrown through a loop to not see your dad, but see your friends all there.
“Welcome home!” they shouted.
You doubled back smiling before rushing to hug them all. You were overwhelmed. You might have only seen them like two weeks ago you were happy to be home. Even if it was only a little while.
“We missed you.” Naruto laughed pulling you in for another hug.
“We saw her like a week ago?” Sai replied, confused.
You ruffled Sai’s hair when a set of arms wrapped around your middle. You tensed up before smelling the familiar smell of cigarettes.
“Traitor.”
“For?” Shikamaru asked.
“Dating my keyboard player. Smoking. Or where you spending time with Azuma seeing your godchild?”
“The latter.”
You rolled your eyes and he let you go but not without rubbing his cheek to yours and pulling away. You huffed and backed away. You didn’t get far before bumping into something cold. A set of hands-on the back of your elbows.
“You got a tattoo?”
Neji.
You spun around and checked out the inside of your elbow blushing.
“I uh yeah. I have four actually.”
He looked impressed. Not deterred, he grabbed your arm and saw the grl pwr tattoo on the inside of your elbow. You and Temari have matching ones since you two were two women who basically front a band. You have three others. You have a paper airplane on the back of your shoulder, a galaxy piece on your side, and on your thigh, there was a storm cloud that under a UV or blacklight made the lighting bolt shine. Neji smiled at you. You heard someone gag behind you. You had the vaguest feeling it was Kiba. You turned around and pulled your eye and stuck your tongue at him. He hugged you and you laughed.
You spent the afternoon with your friends and parents until you were nearly falling asleep where you sat. You didn’t realize how tired you were until you let yourself relax against Neji. The night grew colder and the party moved inside. It quickly became a quiet night after that, movies and drinks and crashing on the couch. Well you crashed on the couch everyone else went home to Shikamaru’s to get their car or ride home. Neji once everyone was ready to go brought you to your bedroom and kissed you goodnight before leaving.
“Are you going to ask her?” Lee asked.
“Ask her what?” Sai asked guiding Ino to Shikamaru’s.
“Ask (Y/N) out properly.”
Neji glared at Lee and pulled his jacket closed. He ignored the question which Shikamaru didn’t like. He imposed himself over Neji but Neji was just slightly, only slightly taller. Shikamaru crossed his arms and glared. Which in itself is nerve-inducing.
“Well, Neji what are your plans with my best friend?”
“If you must know, I like her. Clearly. So I wish to ask her out.”
“Hurt her and your ass is mine.”
“I don’t like you like that at all but I would never, I’m not Koma.”
Shikamaru gave one glare and then nodded. Neji waisted until he looked away to silently release his breath.
“There’s your answer Lee. Be safe getting back you guys text the group when you all make it back home.” Shikamaru waved before going inside.
Neji gathered Hinata, Naruto, Lee, and TenTen and headed to everyone’s respective homes. He and Lee lived together, Hinata and Naruto lived together, and TenTen lived in the same building at Neji and Lee. Neji didn’t let anyone talk on the car ride back. He didn’t wish to speak about his love life with anyone anymore. Once in the comfort of his own apartment he let his hair down and groaned.
“Neji- I’m sorry. You guys were just so cozy.”
“Lee I’m not upset with you. I mean you were just speaking about what you saw.” Neji replied while pulling off his jacket. “She’s back for a year while some of her bandmates finish school. I have time but no time when I can’t even talk to her about my feelings!” Neji flopped onto the sofa neglecting to take off his shoes.
“You could talk maybe Guy and Kakashi-sensei.” Lee sat by him.
Neji didn’t hate that idea. It would have been better than talking to his own father. Not that he didn’t want to, but he didn’t think his dad could help. His mom made the first move on his dad. But with Guy-sensei it was an accident with him and Kakashi but probably better advice than his father so maybe Lee was onto something there.

The chat died down after that and you fell back asleep. Neji laughed. This chat has bounced admin to admin and the nicknames change often enough to keep anyone entertained. Neji himself got ready for bed. Rock Lee stayed up a bit longer than him to do some work for his up-and-coming school week. He was student teaching this week.
The next morning everyone woke to a few changes in the group chat. You changed a few nicknames and the title

You snorted and walked down the stairs. Kiba just accepted his fate. It was almost perfect. Your mom left you a note about her plans for the day. Your father was there for the day but he was engrossed in work. You ate something quickly and popped your head in to say hello to him. He waved at you and went about your day.

You smiled to yourself walking down the stairs. Your mom was gone for the day. You could hear the television on. You popped your head in to see your dad watching a show about rocks. You smiled while he just read in his rocker the noise in the background. You leaned on the frame waiting for him to notice you. It takes him a moment before he looks up from his book and he smiles.
“What’s up buttercup?”
“I’m going to get coffee, do you need anything while I’m out?”
He shakes his head no.
“Go have fun. I’ll see you later.”
You smiled and blew him a kiss. Walking into the kitchen you grabbed your jacket and purse off the coat rack. You slipped your phone into your jacket pocket and started on your walk. The great thing is The Blossom was a five-minute walk from your house. The walk, while short, gave you time to reflect. You thought about Neji. You probably always liked him, it went through phases where you liked him more than a friend, but then Koma happened. That six months of your life where Neji didn’t cross your mind. But now it all seems to be falling into place.
As you approached the cafe, Neji was already there. He looked beautifully aloof. You quietly walked up to him while he scrolled on his phone. His light skin contrasting against his dark hair and the bright red t-shirt and checkered pants to match. You honestly were a mixture of both impressed and intimidated by him. He always looked like he had his life together. You looked down at yourself and how you were dressed. You layered tights under overalls with a baggy sweater on top. You felt like you weren’t dressed well enough to compete with him. He looked up at you and smiled. He gently pulled you to him and kissed your forehead. You weren’t sure what you two were but you were content.
“This is my treat, come on.” He smiled opening the door for you, “I picked this place because no one would come here or neither do I think our friends care enough to find us. This place has chai lattes and oat milk which I know are your favorites.”
You smiled, cheeks becoming redder.
“You remembered?”
“Of course,” he responded. It’s because I love you. But he didn’t let her know that.
You held onto the crook of his elbow whilst he ordered. He ended up ordering for both of you while you had a small smile on your features. He ordered the chai latte for you and a simple London fog drink. You weren’t expecting that. As if he read your mind.
“I had a small cup of coffee before I decided to ask you out. Do you want anything else?” he asked.
“Do you want to split a coffee cake?”
Neji nodded. His eyes lit up like you hung the stars in the sky. You felt very on par with Neji, finally. You and he walked over to a table situated in the corner by the window. It was a kind of chilly morning for how early in September that it was. You rested your head on your hand looking between him and the window before you asked.
“Don’t you work on Monday? Like a new startup position at a family-owned accounting firm?” You asked, smirking.
Neji smiled at your question crossing his legs and leaning over to rest his head on his hands, thinking for a moment to formulate an answer for you.
“Yes but technically no. My days got changed because I’m going back to school for my masters so my uncle has me working sparingly.”
“Your masters? That’s great!” you smiled excitedly.
He looked very bemusingly at you. He offered a hand to you to hold across the table. The two of you shared the cake and drinks in silence. No need to talk currently. The two of you spoke sparingly and worked on individual projects. You worked on songs and he worked on some classwork.
“Neji. What are we?” you asked.
The keyboard clicking stopped. You felt your body tense. Had you pushed a boundary? He was hesitating and you were getting progressively more anxious. He started wringing his hands, but you quietly waited for him to answer you. Seconds felt like hours to you waiting.
“I-I knew this was coming but I-” He sighed softly, “I was just trying to feel out how you felt before I spoke to you about me.” Neji explained, “(Y/N) I have liked you probably since I was fifteen. But our lives never seemed to line up. Call it destiny if you will always seem to escape me. I dated, you dated. I got scared of my feelings for you but not anymore I can’t. I don’t want to. I- I want to take care of you, and be with you and support you.” He ended up just muttering to himself.
Your heart clenched watching him. You smiled that he was being honest with you. Even though he was avoiding your eye contact. You reached out to grab his hand to get his attention. He slowly let you coax his hand into yours while you figured out how to respond.
“Thank you, Neji for being honest with me. I know how you feel. You bore your feelings to me for how you feel. I accept your feelings.” you replied, smiling. “And I- I would love nothing more than this to work out. It would need work. Between music and you being in school again it won’t be easy, and I’m sorry for that. I wish I can be more for you.”
“You’re perfect enough.” He brought your hand to his lips to kiss. “You are worth the work.”
Kiba was passing by when he stopped and did a double-take. He was convinced that he saw you and Neji but he wasn’t sure.

Kiba was squinting at the frosted glass window. Neither you nor Neji knew what was going on in that chat; both of you had your phones picked up. Kiba needed to know so he quietly snuck into the cafe and to a booth on the other side of the store from you two. Not that you would have noticed, either way, you and Neji were in your own little world. It looked like a date to Kiba.

Neji laughed to himself at something you said. He then leaned in to grasp your chin to press a soft kiss to your mouth. Not wanting to push you. Kiba could hardly believe it. He got up and slipped into the bathroom.

You felt your phone vibrate and Neji felt his too. You both grabbed your phones and checked the messages. His eyes shot up and scanned for Kiba keenly aware. You were confused. You also looked over the messages and glared.
“He’s here somewhere.” you groaned.
Neji pinched the bridge of his nose and looked at you almost apologetically.
“I’m sorry.”
You shook your head. You grabbed his back and yours and pulled him from the cafe.
“Don’t be sorry. I know where we can go where no one will find us.”
You and Neji dipped through the streets. He allowed himself to be pulled by you while you brought him to a home. He didn’t recognize this house. You explained it was your grandfather’s home, but he wasn’t home. You had a treehouse in the backyard that you wanted to show him. He was surprised to see this.
“Whoa.”
“I know.”
You climbed up the rope ladder and Neji followed closely as you went up. Inside the treehouse, it looked older but sometimes you still come up to be alone or to play music. Neji stood hunched because it was made for you who had never been very tall. He looked around and smiled.
“Finally.” he groaned.
He grabbed your face softly and kissed you properly. You gasped quietly and he kept one hand on your face and the other on your waist to make sure this was real. You both needed air eventually and he actually started to giggle. You laughed and the two of you spent the afternoon in the early fall air laughing, stealing kisses, and being in each other's presence.
