i should preface this by saying that i dont think shes like. a bad person. and i dont have some secret knowledge of problematique things shes done that we should all Cancel her for.

tl;dr i just think her videos are really bad. she keeps making videos about stuff that i was there for and then being wrong about them, and it drives me crazy. on top of that, it just rubs me the wrong way to make your whole brand "the lady who talks about tumblr"

like, i think her homestuck video sucks (and i think its very funny that she admitted that she only spent a week making it, but ALSO got really defensive when people said she was wrong about stuff. like, i think the way whatpumpkin and andrew hussie responded to her video was Bad but also that doesnt retroactively defend the original video from being poorly researched and, in my opinion, in bad taste. it was weird to make a video where you talk about all the controversy about hs^2 not that long after the whole project got cancelled because too many of the trans women working on it were receiving daily death threats)

and i think the mcelroys video sucks (that was the last one i watched before i gave up entirely. its really long and very boring, and basically is just her listing a bunch of stuff they did that people had problems with, which essentially puts "travis was annoying on twitch" on the same level of seriousness as "taz: graduation used a lot of harmful native american stereotypes". i genuinely am not sure what the point of this video was supposed to be, because it feels like its her reading a tumblr callout post. also she was wrong about taz: amnesty. the ending WAS foreshadowed, it did NOT come out of nowhere, she just wasnt paying attention.)

but the onceler fandom video is honestly the absolute pits. i am still friends with a lot of the people that i was in the onceler fandom with, and i genuinely havent met a single former onceslut who thought her video was good, or the least bit accurate. her thesis basically boils down to that the onceler fandom was just a bunch of young teen girls projecting fantasies onto a nonthreating decently attractive fictional guy, which isnt that weird and people are only making a big thing about it because they hate teenage girls. and her conclusions arent WRONG, per say, since people DO hate teen girls and this is a thing theyre known to do... its just. thats literally not what the onceler fandom was at all?? first off, when i got into it i was 17 and i was the youngest person i knew by far. almost everyone i saw in the fandom were in their 20s, and a lot of them were not girls at all. and as far as any of US remember, the thing sustained the fandom wasnt 13 year old girls exploring their nascent sexualities, it was people using the barest pretense to make OCs, and then craft stories with and about their friends OCs. it was a really cool unique experience because it was a fandom for the things the fandom built. a lot of the people i knew had never watched the movie The Lorax at all, or didnt really care about it one way or another, but DID get really invested in the dynamic between Swag and One, or got really invested in the two big AUs the fandom had. By the time i got there, most people had kinda moved away from the canon onceler anyway, and were focused almost exclusively on the AUs (there was a high school AU and a zombie apocalypse AU, and then during the summer the high school AU blogs would do a child summer camp AU. i liked the zombie one best because i love melodrama, but the high school one was most popular). i know she was IN the onceler fandom (allegedly...) but as far as i can tell, she was just there at the very start, because it changed WILDLY even just a few months after its inception. and there's no way anyone who saw the fandom that I was actually in would make the sweeping statements about it that she did.

broadly, her videos are too unfocused and not really well-written. her one on Oppa Homeless Style was a genuinely good video!! I know she CAN do good videos!! But so many of her more fandom-focused videos dont really seem to have a thesis beyond "this happened" or maybe even "this was kinda weird right?". like what is the viewer supposed to take away from the video about the mcleroys? that they made a podcast that was really popular and then got less popular? why did that take you TWO HOURS to say? and even when she does have a strong thesis, its always muddied by the fact that she feels compelled to add in really long, boring digressions. I think the video about All or Nothing was good, and made an interesting point about how pan and ace people are really starved for meaningful rep, but i dont understand why she felt compelled to recount the entire plot of the webseries someone made? what did that contribute to the thesis? its like shes reading a wikipedia page, and not like. an actual ESSAY. that someone structured to convey a POINT.

but overall i just take umbrage with her whole "tumblr historian" shtick. i think its kind of gross to put really niche (generally woman-dominated) subcultures on display so people can come gawk at the freaks. ive heard the defense that "she IS a fandom person!! these videos are FOR fandom people!!" but 1. if its supposedly supposed to be for me and NOT an audience of people unfamiliar with the thing shes talking about, then there would be no need to spend so long explaining what everything is, and 2. i can at least say, in my own subjective experience, that i said basically all this to my sister, who told me that thats why she likes sarah z at all, because the videos let her come gawk at all the fandom freaks on tumblr. so its cool that sarah z is giving the person who bullied me my whole life (specifically because the way i engaged with media was too cringe) more reasons to bully me for being cringe. big preesh sarah. glad youre making money off of the free content all of us put out, and even more glad that youre profiting by taking all that free content and presenting it to a largely hostile and judgemental audience who already thinks im a fucking idiot. why dont you make a video about my popular hamlet post next, since you seem to make videos exclusively about things i did.

anyway if i want to watch video essays about fandom, i'll watch princess weekes, whose videos are substantive and not... idk very juvenile. not that i think there cant be more than one youtuber talking about fandom!!! its just that sarah z's videos are mid at best and actively bad at worst, so im not gonna bother.

(all that being said, i occasionally look at her blog and reblog stuff. while shes working down in the tumblr mines looking for content to steal, she does frequently find some decent posts to reblog)

It really is All Over once you realize the United States of America are truly THE villain of all time

Like everyone thinks of Hitler, and sure. I'm not gonna try and argue he was a good guy or anything of course, he was a monster! But Hitler literally said he *took notes* from the American genocide of indigenous people for what he did. And in that same war, as horrific as the stuff the Nazis did was, America dropped the deadliest weapon in human history. On civilian populations. TWICE!! JUST! To swing our dick around on the global stage!!!! Even our own generals were like "yeah we dont really NEED to do this President Truman the Japanese are ready to surrender", but Truman wanted them to HURT! Heck, if you read on news before pearl harbor, it sounds like if Pearl Harbor hadnt happened, America might have joined the other fucking side. We werent big damn heroes like they tell us in school. We were there for our own interests.

And this is just the clearest example of how atrocious America is. There's also been countless other genocides we've perpetrated WORLDWIDE in order to secure money for our rich and powerful! We waited longer than most western countries to ban slavery, *had a war about it that some people still think shoulda gone the other way*, and even LEFT A LOOPHOLE IN THE LAW BANNING IT so we can enslave prisoners. Then there's the fact that our entire culture was based on puritan christians, which were less an "oppressed religion" and more a monstrous cult that wanted to oppress everyone else. And the fact that our revolution was entirely because a bunch of rich slave owners didnt like taxes. AND those same slave owners DRESSED UP IN REDFACE to commit crimes and blame it on the native population!!! I touched on it earlier but this was amidst the beginning stages of our genocide of that population, which continues to this day, forcing indigenous people out of *quite often not even their historical land because we already took that but shit land we shoved them into because we didnt care* just so we can build more deadly pipelines which will destroy the earth and pollute their water. Oh, and we were MASSIVE pioneers of all the technologies destroying the fucking earth too! Again, all so some rich motherfuckers can sit in their mansions and feel like The Big Man. This is all stuff that we *KNOW* happens! We are participating in THREE GENOCIDES RIGHT NOW!!!! THIS IS ALL STILL JUST OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD AND NOWHERE NEAR EVERY HORRIFIC EVENT IN OUR HISTORY!!!!!

Once you start actually looking at our history with a critical eye, of ANY kind, the whole thing becomes disgusting and monstrous and outright indefensible. I hope every patriot in this country shits themselves to death.

I just read and observe people and then after some time I eventually pick up on their habits and the way they talk and that’s what I did while learning English

Obviously I knew English because I learnt it in school but I never spoke it and I wasn’t great at communicating in it because where I live we usually speak my mother tongue which is pashto and urdu (I live in pakistan btw)

I’m 20 so before I was 17 when I started learning, that too because I got into this phase where I didn’t like talking to people and just reading and writing and on my phone and the quarantine really helped lol so that made me learn English and eventually get introduced to all the western media

And I because I had been always very close to my family so we watched the same shows and I wasn’t really at all on social media, probably because the lack of knowing English so I felt kind of insecure being on social media if I wasn’t able to understand the stuff on it, so no idea of western celebs or anything like that (I knew the very famous ones like angelina jolie etc because once I saw her face printed on a bag while I was shopping when I was like 12 and I though she was gorgeous anyways I’m rambling!!! Now hahah)

Anyways the point is, sometimes it makes me feel like, social media and real life are two different planets because the stuff on it so flabbergasting and weird (but also it has its many good sides and effects as well like talking to people and that’s great for me cause I love talking to people) but What kind of makes me sad is that it’s not 2 different planets, it’s all the same and the people who are so unkind and crazy on the internet are among us

i mostly learned english from reading and watching movies etc as well actually but then again i was very young (i was fully fluent by the time i was around 9 i think) and children pick up languages very fast and i live in sweden where american and english media and pop culture is very widespread and part of the culture (probably bc sweden is a western country and america is very dominant in western media in general) so people learn english very well and easily here like swedes are known for it and foreigners often struggle to learn swedish bc the natives all switch to english when they notice u dont speak swedish so lots of foreigners and immigrants have to straight up ask people to talk to them in swedish more so they can learn and practice it lol but i think that goes to show that the best way to learn a language is to watch and read media in that language and observe it in casual conversation rather than just go by how ur taught it in classes etc

i honestly think its a good thing that u didnt partake in social media when u were younger. i think a lot of the people that dont seperate social media from real life are the ones who started using it early so they have almost spent more time in the social media and online world than the actual real world and get less real world interactions than online ones. i think its very unhealthy to not be able to seperate the 2 and just like u said, the online world and the real world are 2 different things and people forget that they are interacting with real living humans thru the screen and thats when it gets toxic and crazy and hostile. people kind of lose their social skills when they only interact with others behind a screen and its very concerning. ive always talked to ppl online the way i would talk face to face and its always weird to me when others dont do the same bc its like would u say these things ur saying online if the person was face to face with u? if u wouldnt then just dont. its cowardly and embarrassing behavior and its just gonna rot ur brain and soul and make u lose touch with reality and how u connect to others on a human level

First dream all i remember is being in a "college dorm" w sydney and we were going thru our room before moving out. Our unit had 3 basement levels underneath it the same size and the surface level livingroom but the bottom floor had a big wode hallway that lead outside. It was very wet in the basements and i had left some things down there like garfield plushes and clothes n theu were now covered in white fuzzy mold. I remember waking up upset that my stuff was ruined that had been in the basement.

Next partial dream i was visiting an art and science museum w other ppl i think colton and rachel?? Maybe not but i had been to the museum several times before and we were kind of glazing thru the exhibits and stopping to look more closely at ones that were either new or we didnt pay much attention to before. I remember we made it to the gift store and i wanted to buy these magnets that were little pieces of textile projects like one was beaded into a made up flag and another was brown w colored thread sewing holes closed in it. The magnet i wanted was $10 and i tried to bargin w the woman selling it. She said she needed to make money and she had bought the magnets from a native american woman. I countered her argument that she could have underpaid the woman who actually made them and was selling them at a way higjer price just because she cpuld and i wpuld have no way of knowing whether she was doing this or not.

Last dream was very surreal i remember being in this big white room w a ton of other ppl sitting at long tables w benches. Everyone looked like a human but they were technically aliens since they all came from different human settlements on other planets. I was from earth from 1998 and the only other person from my time was a younger boy. I was myself at my age but i was a man. I was trying to escape the building by getting to this big whale that could function as a time machine and pass me on to the time i came from. The gameshow part was everyone sat at the tables and weird animals would come and wander between and "catch" ppl but i didnt actually know what the qualifications for getting caught were. I got caught by the ppl running the game for sitting on a table where business ppl were and i was mad because i had sat on multiple tables in previous rounds and it was fine. I was put in a room w a big glass window and had to sit out a round. I was safe from the monsters but i had the "humiliation" of getting in trouble. It didnt bother me bc i didnt understand anythi g ekse abt the game anyways. After that i remember finding the kid who was from my time. He had been caught and was in a room in the wall w other ppl. We went outside the building where there were more ppl having some kind of fair in a big lawn between a bunch of brick buildings. We ran through all the ppl to meet up w a guy who was helping me escaoe and running from the gameshow ppl who were mad i escaped before the full game had ended. We meet w the guy and i think he was going to back out but i berated him telling him i had to get this kid back to his family and that he was too young to understand what was rlly happening and he needed to be back in his own time to be safe. Eventually we went into one of the brick buildings and walked into a snowy landscape w big pillars of rock and ice that were iridescent. The whale thing was there and i set the time i wanted us to go to on a machine next to it and we went insdie this big hole in its forehead. We fell through a bunch of dreamy landscapes before i woke up

Making My Own Post™️ because im not indigenous, and because the post that spurred this on was about Palestine as well, so i don’t want to derail it. that said, it does have me very emotional because i grew up in the central valley of california, and i do my best to pay attention to the land i’m on and the people who know it best. i think that anybody who really cares about the land that america encompasses and learning about what it was like before it was devastated by the arrival of white people would be able to understand my frustration.

i love the valley now, even in its dry and wounded state, because it is where i grew up, but it is obvious that the land was far, far healthier when it was in the care of the indigenous people of the area. that is because the ecosystem was maintained by and for those people.

i’m not indigenous, so i don’t presume to have any better knowledge than what was shared in the other post (which you really should check out before reading on), but what @omusa-inola and @dojense shared was the same as what i learned in my own personal research. the valley used to be home to black oak forests, which were maintained by the indigenous people that live there. black oaks are huge trees which provide essential shade from the intense central valley sun. black oaks also build a root network that nourishes other plants that the indigenous people of the area (including the miwoks, but also other tribes) relied on prior to the destruction of the oaks.

there is a very small black oak grove near where i used to live (that is now being threatened by kudzu, sadly) and standing underneath the cathedral-like shelter of a black oak’s sprawling branches and seeing what grows in their shadow really contextualizes the struggle of the valley. it’s obvious if you open your eyes and look. things grow easily under the black oaks. they don’t elsewhere. meanwhile, white people struggle to grow non-native crops under the direct sun, in huge monocultural fields, by dousing them with water daily. white people act like the valley is dry and barren by nature now, but it doesn’t have to be. it wasn’t before.

if you read that other post, you might be finding it clear that genocidal action and ecological disaster absolutely go hand in hand. both play into each other. california is just one example of that. the healthy, abundant ecosystem that worked for the valley, that was maintained by and for the indigenous people, was destroyed. the oaklands were chopped down, taking the livelihood of the indigenous people with them— all in order to make way for the white way of life. even now, surviving native plant and wildlife continues to die off every day as farms till to prepare for another season of stripping the soil of water and nutrients for profit, and even as farms are torn up and replaced by houses and apartments for the ever-increasing number of those who want to strike it rich in the golden state. public schools in CA continue to refuse to teach the truth about the indigenous people of the region, denying their importance and existence. sacred & historic sites are torn up because they’re worth so much more to capitalism if they’re replaced by a shitty apartment building or whatever.

the disturbed land of the valley is not only home to crops and densely-packed little houses, but it is also home to viciously invasive and highly flammable grasses that literally didnt exist in california before white people brought them over in bags of grain and crop seeds. the native plants that do manage to sprout up between the strawberries and almond trees are destroyed by tilling, but the tilling literally perpetuates the life cycle of these invasive grasses which choke out other life, suck the nutrients and water out of the soil, and then die on top of it in a dry, flammable heap. those invasive grasses also dominate the yellow, barren cow pastures between the orchards, and the black-burnt shoulders of the highways.

it’s confusing and mind-numbing to try to understand how California keeps making ecologically devastating decisions while maintaining the reputation of a Good, Liberal State. at least it was that way for me, until one of my visits to the black oak grove during that period of my life where i was struggling to grow my own food to eat. i saw how easily life springs up under the shadows of the trees even in the heat of a valley summer, and remembered that white people tore all of those life-giving trees down to plant rows of crops to sell off and to build labyrinths of identical houses. the answer is that the state of california is just another part of the capitalist colonial government that exists to perpetuate itself and kill everything and everyone that stands in its way, even until there is no california to rule over, burnt to the ground and then swallowed by the pacific.

no one has cared for the land better than the indigenous people who colonizers set out to erase. dont forget the damage that is done, because colonizer governments with no attachment to the land will never fix the ecological disasters they benefit from, even if that government is california, which brands itself as the most climate-conscious and progressive state. i encourage other americans to research the land you live on to learn what it was and who took care of it before it became built cookie-cutter houses, lawns, and factory farms. listen to the voices of indigenous people around you. it will be frustrating and saddening to learn what has been destroyed, but we have to learn.

hello there! so im worldbuilding the post-apocalyptic thing and im starting off with factions. to note: the faction im talking about right now is NOT supposed to be some weird off-hand representation of native americans. as a foil to a group of tech archivists, i have this group who have distanced themselves from modernity and are living like it was pre-colonial times because they believe that man’s tampering with the land in the first place caused humanity’s fall. they might adopt ndn (tbc)

(worldbuilding anon) agricultural and medicinal techniques, although not religion, to get by. is there anything wrong with this? anything i can improve on?

Couple of things i have a problem with:

The idea that Natives didnt "tamper" with our land or have any hand in actively cultivating, managing, modifying, or engaging with it pre-colonization. This is already inaccurate

The idea that Native traditional practices are anti modern or cannot coexist with modernity and technology (which is kind of an insult to Natives now because that's how we're living currently and not exactly productive or optimistic for the decolonizing mindset)

How a group of people who arent Native American managed so somehow gather all this information on traditional agricultural and living techniques during the apocalypse with no Native members, or even if they do have Native members, why those Native members havent critisized the rest of the group for the above things

Now i know you said that this isn't a group of Native Americans, but the implications are still there. However, if youre implying that these things are what the group THINKS and you're trying to make the same point as i am (that they're wrong, and theyre adoptong or "appropriating" Native practices while getting the wrong idea about them) then maybe add in a whole group of Native charas to sort of balance out that (or even just a few) who critisize this group for those things. Maybe they help out the tech archivists a little bit? Or maybe they just don't like this other group's ideology.

Because like... even before colonization, Natives handled the lands we occupied. We had an active relationship with our lands. The reason we've been getting so many wildfires in the west lately is because Native peoples have been barred from doing controlled fires to burn off dead forest, which become tinder boxes in the summer. They'd been doing that for centuries to prevent fires from getting out of control. Plains Natives did a similar thing with prairie fires, and we kept the plains plains for the bison paths so we had something to eat, and would cut down trees for tipi poles & tools. The corn plant & potatoes (and their multiples species) as we know it was literally engineered to be edible the way it is by Natives. Right from the get go we've been tampering & playing with the lands we were on, and it became a PART of our culture.

But even furthermore, modernity and technology weren't rejected when it was useful to us, and they weren't the main cause for things going bad (at least on its own), colonization was. But when new technology (the "latest" at the time) appeared to us and we found it useful, we used it. When guns came to us we used them for hunting. When metal came to those who didn't have it, we used it. When horses appeared, we used them and cared for them. We still had our traditional practices, but we also used whatever modern technology was available. Even now, we as Natives still do traditional things and practices, and have used things like the internet and computers as part of that and to make things more accessible (like language learning apps for example). So this idea that traditional practices can't coexist with modern technology is already inaccurate, because we've already been doing that for centuries, and so if there's this group of people who say otherwise, then youve gotta make it clear that this is incorrect. Otherwise you've got a troubling echo of the Noble Savage stereotype. The above ideas kinda goes back to the Noble Savage trope & idea that we were running wild and lost, and that we just let the land do whatever it wanted & did nothing to it. The Noble Savage is an idea that suggests we were humans (or just barely) in their most primitive, unmodern, uncivilized, wild, but "natural" form. So maybe if you have some Native characters who are like "hey wtf" to this random group to challenge this, it would be better.

Modernity and technology can coexist alongside traditional practices.

okay since you say you can be george critical then how about the fact that he clearly doesnt give a fuck about minorities he upsets. remember when he did the native american war cry, didnt apologize, then did it again? i dont know why youre acting as if he's any different than dream theyre the exact same breed of privileged slur-saying cishet white men.

yeah, i thought that was fucking weird but at the same time i don't think HE thought he needed to apologize since dream essentially "spoke for the 3 of them" during his apology stream (dream said those words btw), and to be frank, i don't think people were THAT mad about the war cry itself, it's an easy mistake thanks to anti-native rhetoric within history and media that's taught to you/you watch as a kid, something thats only began to be brought to public light within the past 10 years. (think of how most of us gen z kids wrote essays/papers on how great colombus was back in 4th grade, never being taught about the exploitation of the natives until very very later in our educational lives) im not here to explain history to you, but what im trying to get at is that people, including myself probably wouldnt be THAT mad at dream if it was just the war cry, but no, dream went on twitter, declared us all as just "offended without reason" and then said he was part native (spoiler. erm. not the right thing to say) and argued with stans for like an hour before hopping on stream and saying "hey besties. my temper got the worst of me again" (AND BTW. WHEN I SAY AGAIN, I MEAN IT. this was not the first time dream had fucked up infront of his fanbase, lashed out at all of us, and then came back like "im sowwy 🥺") and essentially said he knew he was wrong but he wanted to defend himself . which is so stupid but?

this literally isn't the first time dream had to debate war cries, he's not an idiot. go check lordylordly or whatever, he literally debated with people on the trump subreddit about how this one school's chant or something wasn't a war cry, it was a highschool chant (i don't have the video, but a lot of people were arguing against HIM so i'm gonna guess this was claytons ignorance coming out again)

also can i just say like... georges feats of ignorance happened mostly when he was 15-18, in the 2000s... i know we're tired of hearing "it was a different time!" but it seriously was. the gamer community was toxic and we all knew it! george essentially repeated slurs that came out of bballs mouth when he was 17, and these videos marinated on the internet until he was 24 and then when brought to light, he immediately apologized, said it was ignorant, and said he'd taken precautions to no longer say them. i found his apology sincere and not trying to take the easy copout which is "these are so old like why would you go through my ex friends channel just to find me saying slurs you fucking freaks of nature"

dream on the other hand validates himself calling immigrants "illegals" on reddit no less than one or two years ago (at the time of writing this) and says "i grew up around conservatives! therefore the horrible stuff i said about minorities on reddit is justified! love you guys <3 dream.shop" like that isn't an apology?? that's a justification and there's no justification in the shit dream said, there just isn't 😭

so yes, while they might be the same breed of white man, clearly they've gone on two different paths, george, by shutting the fuck up and listening has kept his pretty platform and stans and essentially gets into no conflict, dream on the other hand managed to do some pretty terrible shit, didn't apologize or even properly explain, and THATS why people are still mad. dream literally paid more attention to a fucking speedrun scandal than actual minorities wondering why the hell he said they didnt deserve rights 😭

most of my george crit lies in how fucking passive he is and how willingly he chooses to ignore issues, i think that's seriously his biggest flaw and what makes me really mad at him, and something that dream is actually better at than him! it's a shame his ignorance bars his contributions from having any sort of positive meaning

Cold (White Demon’s Love Song, Part 1.)

Series description: A new job was what the reason you found yourself on a lonely roadtrip on the western coast, ending up in the woods of Olympian Peninsula. Yet a sudden car malfuction was what cause your unplanned stay in Forks. To your surprise, there was a lot of sinister things going on under the veil of fog.

Part summary: On your way to Port Angeles, your car just suddenly gave up, dying just in front of the Forks welcome sign. Well... It was time to call the local mechanic.

A/N: The series’ name is obviously a call-back to Twilight Saga: New Moon soundrack, A White Demon Love Song (by the Killers), used in the ending credits. Honestly, the song is amazing and you should give it a listen, or two, because it reminds me of Jacob so much.

It was nothing but a small town, located close to the western coast, standing in the middle of nothing but deep, dark woods. Its population never crossed the milestone of 4.000 people at one time - neither it had a chance to do so. The town was located in northern America, in the state of Washington. Its name was Forks - close to Forks, there was a native-American territory named the Quileute reservation, La Push being its tiny, beating heart; a slightly bigger town named Port Angeles, and one big city - Olympia.

The forests and nature of the Olympian Peninsula was one of the most mysterious and beautiful to ever be experienced by a human being. There were mountain lions and bears, wolves, and bigger, more dangerous animals hiding in the deep, all-year-long green woods. For such a small town, Forks had its fair share of unnatural, mythical, and legendary creatures roaming around/in it. The deepest nightmares of horror and fairytales coming true, if you will. It also seemed that the town just can't leave the cycle of repeating events, one man in the woods thought.

It wasn't just a man, no, that wouldn't be accurate to say. It was a man with a literal animal inside his body. An animal about which he hoped will never come on the surface once again. All he wanted was to grow old without complications, that was his whole deal. Now that he was left alone, behind and Cullens, the residing vampire family, had left the town, he and his brothers had a chance to do so... Finally. Five years ago, he and Sam Uley, the leader of another pack, watched the Cullens leave the city for another... Hundred years or so. It appeared it's the time to stop with the whole wolf thing, letting them let the wolves inside of them die.

Being a werewolf, a child of the moon, a wolf, or a shapeshifter, whatever you wanted to call it, wasn't as brutal as it was described in horror stories over the years. More than anything, the men and women of the Quileute tribe were carrying the spirit animal inside - the animal was waiting inside, sleeping, until it was called to rise once more. Not everyone could become a wolf - only the ancestors of the first big chief, Taha Aki, could do so. There also needed specific things to happen for their transformation, whether it was the first one or another beginning of the cycle. They needed to smell the scent of vampires.

No-one could predict a pack of vampires taking refuge just a small bit from Forks, again. Yet this time, it wasn't the 'good' vampires feeding on animal blood; these were wild, unpredictable, and red-eyed. These could not be debated to reach any sort of agreement or truce, as the Cullens did a century ago. These had to be stopped, killed, and burned. Whether they would be acting nice or not, they were a threat to Forks and everyone living in it. Which the spirits realized - they started to re-awaken once more.

First, it caught most of the pack unprepared - both alphas of the Uley and Black pack started to feel the sensation of intense heat, of rage and fury all of a sudden. For Jacob Black, it happened when he was in his workshop, repairing an old engine. He barely had the strength to walk out of the building. His muscles were tensing uncontrollably, a high fever appeared all of a sudden. Just muttered groans of pain and heavy breathing could be heard as Jacob walked past the first line of high trees, waiting for the feeling to rip him apart like a rag doll. This shouldn't be happening. There were no vampires in Forks anymore, why was the wolf urging to come out?

The man fell on both his knees. In despair, his fingers dug deep into the forest soil as he let himself cry out in pain. No-one could see him or hear him now, it was fine. The spasms made him fall on his back as his pupils were wildly rolling. If any Catholic priest would see him, he could easily claim that Jacob was possessed by a demon. Another groan left Jacob's body, which was still writhing in convulsions until the part came - the one where his human form just exploded, a hoard of russet fur sprang out as the wolf tried to get on his feet. The man was highly confused. Why did this happen? He wasn't left in the dark for too long - soon, he heard the familiar voice of Sam Uley, who was just a few years older than him, inside his head.

Sure, both of them decided to separate some time ago, creating two packs in Forks, but they could still communicate telepathically - as two alphas, the leaders of the pack. - 'Is that you, Jacob?' - Sam screamed into the void, being scared beyond his wildest dreams. It was understandable - back in the day, Sam was the first to awaken his spirit wolf when the Cullens moved back to Forks. Naturally, he was alone and didn't get what was happening to him that much - until the elders told him. This time, it might've been the same thing, again. Naturally, Sam was relieved when he felt another mind connect into the web of shared thoughts, even if it was just Jacob. - 'Did it just happen to you too? Are you the only one as well?' - Sam asked with anxiety. - 'Yes. I can't hear Seth or Embry or Quil. You?' - Jake informed about his current situation. - 'I can't hear anyone either. Do you know what's happening?' - Yet this time, Jacob was silent.

He didn't know what was going on. The only thing he knew was that he has to protect his territory by all costs - and that something is going on around Forks.

A few days later, road 101:

"You are now tuning into Radio Forks on 140.5 FM. The weather is nice today, but remember to be careful on the roads anyway. On a request from our listener, we will now play The Violet Hour by Sea Wolf... Take it away." - A woman in the radio said, her voice mashing up into happy guitar rhythms in the end. The song was nice and fast, so it made you dance in the seat of your Beetle while you gripped on the steering wheel. The car was most probably at least twice as old as you were, it wasn't in the best condition and the stereo was also kind of shit, and the AC worked only when you pulled out the lighter out, but it was still your car in the end. Well, you couldn't afford anything better from a teacher payment anyway - the Beetle never gave up on you, it had never malfunctioned and even if it did eat a lot of fuel, you still loved the car.

Now, you were on your way to Tacoma because of the work you've been given there - starting in a few weeks, you've already had moved most of your stuff into the new apartment which you shared with a roommate. It was exciting, starting another stage of your life in Tacoma. Sure, your mom was a bit scared when you told her how far you were moving out, but you promised to call and text her all the time, so she would be calm.

But before your final settling down in Tacoma, your friends advised you to take a short trip along the western coast - especially the upper part of it. So you did as they told you - you were now close to some small town named Forks, which you wanted to just drive through quickly, before continuing to Port Angeles. These towns were small and hadn't much to offer, but according to your friend, it was magical to stay there, even just for a while. So far, you hadn't stopped in many towns, but you had to say that you liked the weather - hot, sunny days? You were starting to question them after spending a week on the road. The higher you got in Washington, the more cloudy and rainy it got. More importantly, it was freezing in this part of the world. What was the sun? You didn't know. You hadn't seen it since you entered the deep, green, and rainy woods of the state. The roads were always slipping from the rain, so you had to focus on the damn road at all times.

There was deer here and there on the road, but even if the view was mostly the same, you liked it. The air was cold and humid even though, in the nights and sometimes even during the day, it got very cold up here. You've chosen to move to Tacoma, didnt you? This was what you should be prepared for.

Quickly, you glanced over the map to see if you're still on the right road when your eyes widened in horror. The motor just made a damn weird sound. Oh no. Oh crap! You cried out internally as you felt the car slowing down. All you did was to ride to the roadside with panic as the car made a few very unpleasant sounds before the engine stopped completely. The Forks sign was mocking you from the distance, telling you that you were just a small while from the city. So much for just passing through, huh? Without too much waiting, you tried to call the local post office, the only number you had on your phone and to your surprise, the woman knew a number on the local mechanic. Why wouldn't she? According to the number on the board, this town was damn small.

Or, maybe, a lot of people called her and asked her for a towtruck.

More so, she switched you over to the workshop just moments after. You've been sitting in the car, already having your winter jacket pulled on since it was getting cold in there rapidly, watching the damn sign just mocking you silently. You were in the temptation to stick your tongue out, but it was just a dumb sign. - "Jacob Black on the phone, what can I do for you?"

First off, the voice, regarding the polite question, sounded almost fed up and annoyed - and you haven't spoken out yet. Someone had a bad day. Second of all - the man sounded quite young. Did the post-office-lady switch you to a bad number? - "Hello? Is someone out there?" - The Jacob mechanic asked again. The tone, again, was unpleasing to listen to. But this time, you gathered yourself to answer. - "Yea, yea. Hi, I got your number? They told me you're the Forks mechanic with a towtruck? Is that right?" - You quickly got out of yourself. While you were talking, you got out of the car and walked around the car in circles, trying to warm yourself up. Which was borderline foolishness when it was drizzling outside, but whatever. - "Where you're stuck? What happened?" - The man said without a hint of caring about the topic.

"My car just... Stopped suddenly." - You described. After a quiet sigh, you could almost hear the Jacob man rolling his eyes. - "I'm just a few yards from the Forks welcome sign. Can you help me or should I call someone else?" - Wow, you got straight to the point. Damn, you didn't need some fed up, annoyed mechanic. He could at least pretend to care. It wouldn't have killed him. - "Listen, miss. The nearest towtruck, except me, is in Port Angeles. If you don't wanna pay ridiculous prices for the service, it will be wise to hire me, okay? It's one mile... So I'll be asking for five bucks just to get your car to my garage, with the services and everything counted in. Is that alright?"

Again, even if the question was meant to be polite since you were his potential customer, it was said in such a manner that couldn't be described other than rude. Jacob was straightway rude with you. You had some money with you, but it wasn't much either. And for now, you had to save until you'd get to know what's wrong with your car. - "Okay. How long until you'll be here?" - You asked, now you were fed up as well. That made two of you annoyed, great conversation. - "In about... Half an hour. See you there." - And the phone line went dead. With empty gaze, you were staring into the woods with both your eyebrows raised as you listened to the long, beeping sound.

Half an hour? Did he want to let you freeze out there, in the woods, lost on the road 101? And for the love of God, you couldn't wait for the moment you'll talk with the man from eye to eye. That will be an unpleasant conversation, you could tell already. Quickly, you ran back to your car. For some time, you tried to get at least the almost non-existent heating system on, but the car was dead. It didn't even start. You were sure that you'll freeze to death before the towtruck comes to save you. And you almost did - by the time you've seen an old, big Chevy truck with a hook on its back, your mouth were already feeling your teeth-gnashing being fully set. You were hugging yourself inside the car, there was mist slowly coming out of your lips. Well, this was bad.

The man jumped out of the towtruck, watching your car in horror. How old was this thing? Sixty years? Well, it was certainly older than its owner, who was sitting inside. It could be told you weren't used to such cold, because you were looking as if you were about to die any minute. With your eyebrows knitted, you watched the man approaching your window. The first thing that punched you in the eyes was the fact he was wearing just a plain, short-sleeved t-shirt and a pair of old jeans. The man also had long hair pulled into a man bun and damn, these eyes could start shoot bolts of lightning at any time.

He also was... Huge. You'd swear you hadn't seen a man who would take as much space as him. This man was at least six feet tall... And a lot of inches more. As he approached you, you suddenly felt the need to scold him down about politeness fading away. As he knocked onto the window, you rolled it down with a super awkward smile, feeling every inch of you being scared by the man. As soon as you rolled the window down, the man leaned both his palms into the door - with a glance, you figured out he would be able to just break the door if he'd want to, and leaned closer to you.

"You were the one that called?" - The man asked, annoyed once more. So, this was Jacob Black himself - the local mechanic in all his glory. A freaky dude, in your opinion. - "Yep. 't was me." - You peeped out while trying to keep the smile on. Jacob straightened up and sighed, looking away from you for a moment. The way you were smiling, as if you weren't feeling physically well, was giving him the creeps too, don't you worry about it. - "Get out, I'll help this bad boy up." - Jacob patted your car's top. For a moment, you were afraid that the car might break down to pieces as the cartoon cars did - the trunk would fall, the tires would roll away and you would be sitting there on the seat with the steering wheel in your palms. That, thank God, didn't happen.

As the man worked on pulling your car up so you could drag it to the workshop, you could ask him a ton of questions - why was he naked in the middle of such weather? Was being pissy his all-around mood? How was he doing? Yet out of respect, you were just standing there with the same terrifying smile and watching him doing all the job. If you weren't standing there and if you weren't watching him without moving, he'd have so much easier job. Jacob would just take the car, drag it to the hook and click to place - but solely because of your stare, he had to pretend he was struggling with the task a bit. Yet even though he was pretending to struggle, he was done in a few minutes. - "Well, get into the trunk. We don't want you to get... Cold." - Jacob spoke out to you carefully, trying to lower the level of annoyance in his voice.

It was just a simple misunderstanding - while Jacob was worried that the weather around here, to which you quite obviously weren't accommodated to, had done something to the muscles in your face, you were just worried that the man might do something to you if you say something wrong. That was the whole problem. You couldn't know that Jacob wouldn't ever hurt anyone and he couldn't know you're just afraid of big boys. With a nod, you walked to the cabin of the old Chevy truck. It was pretty old, but taken care of - the black paint wasn't that old, it was still shiny in the drops of rain.

The way to the workshop was as quiet as hell - and uncomfortable the same. Jake didn't know what he did wrong and how to start a conversation with you. Honestly, you were just glad that the cabin of his truck was nicely warm. The color got back into your face in no time. And seemingly, the worried smile had disappeared as well. The way was quick - sooner than you'd say, Jacob already had the car inside his workshop. - "So, here's what I'm going to do. I'll check your car, see what's wrong and what can I do for you. You wanna a coffee, tea, or a cup of hot chocolate in the meantime? There are some magazines in the waiting room too, if you're interested." - The man looked at you while he cleaned his palms in the rug. - "The chocolate sounds nice if you don't mind." - "That's a buck worth of excess fare." - He mumbled to you, but walked to his office, getting the coffee machine ready. You almost wanted to tell him something back - yet just at that moment, the man turned his head at you.

His palm quickly pulled a strand of his black hair behind his eyes while his brown, warm eyes gave you a look. - "I was joking. It's counted into the services." - Jacob explained quickly. Oh. You nodded. It didn't sound like a joke, but who were you to judge that. Were all the people in Forks like this? If they were, well, this was sure a great place to live at. Just after he put the small cup on the table in the waiting room, he made sure the heating is on in there. After that, he disappeared into the workplace. All you could hear was some quiet music and rattling of tools as Jacob got into work.

All you did was that you sat there like a small kid, sipping on the warm treat. It was making you feel a bit better. Suddenly, the man almost kicked the door, standing in there with a horrified expression. - "How old is the car?" - Jacob asked simply, rubbing his palms into the rug again. Something in his eyes told you he's being freaked out by what he had seemed. - "I don't know. I bought it six years ago from my neighbor who was forbidden to drive because she couldn't see anymore." - You answered immediately, standing up to look the man in his eyes. - "I don't know how did it drive for so long. This is a wreck." - The mechanic informed you and turned on his heels, marching back to the shop. When you didn't get his hint and didn't follow, he turned his head at you and rose his eyebrow. You were there in no time at all.

"I don't even know where to start. The AC is busted, the hoses in the engine are clogged by various stuff, your alternator... Wow, I'm wondering that it's one piece..." - He was pointing his fingers around, talking about the breaks, some small parts, and various other stuff. - "Um, Mr. Black, I don't understand what you're trying to say, so... Can you get to the point? What is wrong and how much will it cost to repair the car?" - The expression you had on your face told Jacob that you, indeed, were confused as hell. He knew women, Rosalie Hale and such, who were into cars massively, so he would never say that cars were just a 'guy thing' - yet there were people who just weren't gifted in this sort of thing. - "Uh, I think it might be better to just buy some new car," - Jacob started, but your face told him you weren't thinking about leaving the beloved Beetle behind. - "Or, I can try to figure out what to do, yeah." - Suddenly, he walked to his small desk and started to work with his calculator, writing things down on a list. Then, he showed you how much you were about to pay - and the sum made you sit on the chair he had there. With a long sigh, you leaned your elbows to your knees, trying to keep it together.

700 dollars with his work counted in. That was quite something - somehow, you were positive that Jacob Black gave you a pity-discount as well. Sure, you had something saved - but you needed to eat something in Tacoma and 700 bucks wouldn't be healthy for your dying bank account. As a university student, you had multiple loans and stuff, you also had to pay the rent... And certainly, you didn't have spare 15.000 bucks to buy a new car. And you needed one. With a shaky sigh, you put your head to your palms and tried to keep it together. - "It will take me at least two weeks to get all the parts I need and then... Listen, I didn't know the car's this bad either." - Suddenly, you realized that the man is standing next to you, smoothing your shoulder. He could understand people in bad financial situations - he hadn't much himself, though it was significantly better than when he was younger.

He wanted to help you somehow, but the parts were simply too expansive against his liking. Especially for something like the Beetle in front of him. This bad boy needed to take care of everything - and Jacob, sure of his experience with old cars, knew he can repair it... Somehow. - "Is there a motel somewhere out here? Do you know the prices?" - You asked silently. Dear God, were you crying? What should he do? A crying woman, when did he encounter a situation tricky as this one the last time? His brain circuits almost burned up when he thought about what should he do with you. And suddenly... The small bulb was there. - "Um, are you a murderer or something like that?" - Jacob mumbled, trying to joke - and to his surprise, you joked back. - "I won't be killing anyone for you to repair my car with a discount." - This made him chuckle.

"That's good to know. I'll present you an idea, okay? Since I'm now sure you're not so mentally okay..." - "What did you say?" - Suddenly, you sprang up, making Jacob grin even more as he walked around the room. - "Nothing. All I'm saying is... The motel could get expansive for a long-term stay and I have one spare room above the shop. It's used for visitors mostly, so nothing you'd have to worry about. I'll ask ten bucks for a week and it would be kinda fine if you'd buy some food sometimes... And if you'd like to, you can help me out here - and in exchange for that, I'll give you a discount. I think I can lower the sum to 500, maybe 450 if I'll be lucky. I have to make something outta this, you know?" - The man leaned his ass into the car standing behind him, smiling at you carefully. Okay, this sure as hell was an act of pettiness, you could tell just by the look he gave you. But, honestly, he didn't seem to be that bad now.

Also, this was genuinely nice of him. When you imagined how much you'd pay for the motel, the car, and your food altogether, just for the two-week stay, your eyes rolled on their own. - "Why are you doing this?" - You asked quietly. You appreciated the help, you did, but it was strange. Maybe, if everyone was like the mechanic Jacob Black in Forks, the town wasn't half bad. - "Listen, I'm not some dude who would be into a kidnapping or other weird stuff... I just know how it's like not to have much money. You're young, driving this piece of crap, what do you work as, might I ask?" - "A teacher. I'll be starting in Tacoma this September." - Jacob didn't answer to your answer, he just rose his eyebrows to get his point across. - "Take it or leave it. That's all I'm saying." - "You also did miss the fact that I don't know cars at all." - There you were again, the joking-around girl he had seen just a few moments before. - "I also didn't say you'd get near my cars, God protects you if you'd try to do so. I have... Uh... Some problems with the administration if you wouldn't mind. Paperwork isn't my thing and picking up calls isn't my stick either." - "I've noticed."

For a moment, you've been looking at the dude in dead silence. Well, it was a risky plan - but you weren't in the position to do much more. Jacob gave you the best possible alternative you could hope for, it was just because he, under all the annoyance, could maybe be a pretty reasonable guy. - "I'll take your offer, only if I can tell the chief of local police that I'm staying in this workshop." - Jacob snorted at your condition, but he needed to say it was fair enough. - "Sure. So... Is that a deal?" - The man offered you a palm and you stood up, shaking it. - "It is a deal, Mr. Black. Name's Y/N, by the way. You probably should know that."

(Don't want to sound clueless/out of loop, but unless you don't feel comfortable talking about him, who is Ray?)

((Ray’s current blog that he apparently logged into recently is @whitecanvased Here’s the callout we did about a year ago, but I understand its long and there’s a lot of trigger warnings for abuse, rape, racism, ect involved.

Keep in mind that the entire time that we knew each other, I was Ray’s friend, not his ex’s. I’m not just ganging up on him or picking sides in a messy breakup.

To just do a quick run down of the stuff i witnessed first hand (that is in the callout, I wrote the stuff from the rvb rpc,and about the icons that he didnt ever make me):

Claimed to have multiple mental illnesses, including autism, OCD, dissociative identity disorder (which he called multiplicity), AVPD, but when confronted with inaccuracies, he would accuse people of being ableist

Used to make his white Jewish character darker skinned because "white people aren't Jewish"

One of his rvb muses (Felix, a Canon genocidal murderer) he made a "Chimera" so that he could have two different skin tones and made that character both Korean and Japanese, playing into stereotypes on both ends

Had at least one Native American character who's two traits were Bloodthirsty Rage and Flower Power

Told a friend of mine with autism that they didn't have it and disregarded them and the way they expressed those traits

Forced that same friend to write a relationship as abusive even though they did not feel comfortable doing that

Forced different multiple friends to write rape kink and abuse

Drove multiple people offline or out of the rpc entirely for capricious reasons.

Insisted that his characters were never in the wrong because they were constantly victims even when others' characters had legitimate issues.

This is not an exhaustive list, and I know I’m forgetting something, but I know for a fact that if you called him on any of the problematic shit he’d do, you were instantly labeled racist/homophobic/transphobic/ableist. I know for a FACT that he hated being corrected because when I brought up to him (on anon because I’m not stupid) that Chimerism in humans usually only presents as like, two different blood types, he complained bitterly and refused to acknowledge it.

Now with the exception of giving his characters mental illnesses that he badly misrepresented and obviously racist toned traits, he mostly pulled his abuse of other people behind my back. I had very little idea that he’d been treating my irl best friend like garbage behind my back. I ALSO didnt know that he was talking shit about me behind my back to his ex. We communicated mostly over skype which means that I dont have 90% of our correspondences anymore, but I can promise I have some back to back messages where he said one thing to my face, and the complete opposite about it to Tony.

Now the big thing is that Ray made a lot of graphics and icons. Hell, the theme I have on @abitofafatass was made by him, and the icons that I use there and on @ceohargrove were made by him. I paid him to do that. I paid him to make me more icons and a theme for my Apollo blog basically when I first started the damn thing, and he never delivered. FOUR YEARS he strung me along, and I was willing to wait because I know how difficult it can be and I thought we were good friends and that he would produce something. He never did.

I did eventually get the money back, after an anon reminded him that technically that was non-delivery fraud, and I could sue for damages. I was not and still am not in a position to do so, especially because there are two different countries involved, but c’est la vie. He did end up paying. But even in his last message he was lying to me, saying that I “must not have seen” his message despite the fact that you can contact me at literally any time of day and I will respond. My email, my dms and tumblr ims are always open. Hell, I dont even turn off anon.

So this got long, but I put up with Ray for 5 out of the 6 years I’ve been rping, and like fuck him and anyone who’s defending him.

I do have screen caps that include timestamps if anyone would like to see, and some images of at least one of his old blogs from the good old Wayback Machine. You can also see his writing on Grif and Apollo since I dont delete shit ever.

her false face of "worrying about disrespecting jay", was the closest thing she could grab that she thought would get others to optimize for my silence. get local warm bodies to pile upon me for continuing to talk about how to get justice and give more information about different sources of injustice in a way compatible with people who have not completely disabled their general intelligence.

she was worried about her reputation and transfems gaining information that would allow them to coordinate along lines of shared oppression (which would start to erode miri/cfar which she wants to survive in order to have a nice (for her) environment to raise her babies), but thats not a socially defensible reason to object so she laundered it through being “worried about disrespecting jay”

Similarly, discussion of REACH beyond what was needed for me to figure this out (about six lines of text) is not at all useful to me. But pointing this fact out to silence Somni suggests some sort of preference to defend REACH. So, if that's the algorithm you're running, then I see you as (probably) sorting people/discussion topics based on what you can socially get away with. Sort of like, the word "appropriate" is in the same class as "uppity" "disrespectful" "honorable" etc, and this applies to asking if it's "appropriate to discuss REACH despite Jay's preferences".

I personally do not participate in long conversations about who is "in the right", because I personally find it very easy to figure out what people are trying to do, and find that continuing on chats longer than that is a waste of my time. But, this is also Somni's space as a victim of Robert, so it's okay if she wants to discuss REACH I guess. I've never talked with her, but she (they?) seems to have good takes with respect to when someone is de facto hurting others or running bad algorithms in a way related to that.

Racism is Everyone’s Problem

Since my skin color is going to have everyone rolling their eyes thinking “this white privilege bitch think she knows anything about racism?” I want to start by saying I AM PUERTO RICAN. Now for my own back story so you get to know me better.

I have seen both sides of the fence. As noted in my opening statement my skin color makes me look like I belong among the privileged. The second they learn of my last name or hear me speak my native language however, they quickly revoke all privilege and reign down on me with their hate. To the Caucasians out there who do not believe White Privilege is real: You’re wrong! If you were a minority who just happened to look white, like myself, you would be in a position to know this.

Let me show you.

Age 15: Walking off high school grounds on lunch break to get food from the deli 3 blocks over. Common thing many of us did as it was permitted to leave school grounds for lunch. Myself, a white friend we’ll call Ashley, and a Hispanic friend we’ll call Jose. Police officer drives by and sees us walking during school hours and pulls over. He asks us our names. Ashley goes first and he tells her to stand to the side, I go and he looks at me with a moment of surprise and tells me to get my ID out. Jose goes last and he ask him if he’s ever been in trouble with the law. (Jose is very tan in complexion naturally and looks every bit of his South American heritage.) He makes Jose put his hands on the trunk of the car while he pats him down, gets his ID out for him, runs his information to confirm he’s never been in trouble, and dumps his entire bookbag out onto the ground to inspect its contents. He checks my ID, asks me where I’m from with a last name like __, and proceeds to do the same thing to me. Mind you it’s illegal for a male cop to pat down a female in my state, but he didn’t want anyone privy to his racial profiling so he didn’t call a female to the scene. He asks Ashley why she’s walking with us, if we were coercing her into any bad activities and sends her back to school walking. While we get escorted back in his car and handed off to the principal after confirming students had consent to leave the property for lunch and it was indeed our scheduled lunch break.

Age 17: Working at Pizza Hut restaurant as a waitress. About 3 months in a friend stopped by to order take out and saw me working. Greeted me in Spanish and after he left I was confronted by the shift supervisor. When asked how I spoke Spanish so well since they literally failed it in school, and if there was a trick to it; I responded by informing him I was Spanish. Soon he and the rest of the crew were murmuring in the back kitchen, getting quiet when I came near, looking at me sideways and trying to avoid brushing against me at the soda machine like I had the plague or something. Next day I came in, looked at the clipboard to see what section I was working and saw my name crossed out. I asked him why ‘Karen’ was working the entire dining room alone and was told “Because you belong cleaning the bathrooms. Go find the cleaning closet and get scrubbing” I reported him to the Manager when she was on duty the next day and she said she’d talk to him, but any shift she was not in the building I was taunted by the staff and forced to work my shift scrubbing toilets. So I quit.

Age 19: Working at a Giant’s supermarket as cashier. I worked my way up to Customer Service Supervisor and then the front end Assistant Manager is like 8 months. My third day as Asst Manager I walked out through the store to shop after my shift. In line at the register the person in front of me was Spanish and having trouble understanding what the cashier was telling her about a coupon she was trying to use. I step in and explain it to the customer in Spanish because it was getting late and I wanted to go the fuck home. The cashier gave me a shell shocked look and asked how I knew Spanish. I told her I was Spanish and got this ‘ew’ look that ended our conversation. My check out was awkwardly quiet for a person that had been friendly with me since my first day on the job. Next day I was demoted without explanation to cashier. My password for the cash room was deactivated and when I found someone to let me into the office so I could start work I was told “You don’t work in this dept anymore. You’re a cashier now. Go see _ and find out what register you’ll be at today”. When I asked why I was simply told “You should know. It only just happened yesterday” None of management was kind to me again, most supervisors looked at me with disdain as I passed, and finally after a week the produce manager told me it was because I was Spanish and they didnt realize that when they promoted me. He apologized for the fact he had to ignore me in the store but that anyone caught being nice to me would face consequences. Apparently they wanted me to quit. So I did.

Age 26: I got a job at Kmart as a cashier. Worked my way up to Soft-line dept Shift Supervisor in 6 months. About 3 weeks later I started dating the Loss Prevention Manager from another store. He is an African American, Italian, German mix race man who solely looks African American. It took about 2 months for the relationship to get out around the job. It took my boss all of 5 seconds after confronting me for confirmation about the relationship to start treating me like shit. After a week I tried to go to HR and was informed that she is the daughter of a very high up corporate executive and by proxy untouchable. She made more than the store manager and basically ran the show there. After another few days I called her out in the front of the store one night at closing time asking what the stick up her ass with me was and she point blank said “I thought you were a good person. You work hard and you’re a natural leader to the girls here but you screwed up sleeping with a black man. Then I find out you’re a spic so it makes sense for you like blacks. I’m just disgusted with myself for being fooled by you” That was the end of that job.

See white folks? Not once but FOUR times in my life things were good for me while people thought I was white, but quickly soured once the truth came to light. Four times I was excelling in my place of employment thanks to the privilege my skin color bestowed upon me but lost it once it was discovered I was just a really pale brown person. White privilege is real.

I won’t bore you all with the blatant racism I’ve dealt with in my life. If you’re not Caucasian you already know the shit people spew out their hateful mouths, and what it’s like to deal with people throwing shit at you.

I want to discuss the fact that racism is everyone’s problem. Those of us being subjected to it must stand up for ourselves against racist people because we’re human too dammit. We deserve to be treated with the same dignity, respect, and considerations that our oppressors grant each other. More importantly is the fact that those of us who are not subjected to it because they have the privilege of being born white should also stand up against racist people. Use the privilege you try so hard to deny for the greater good! BE THE CHANGE that fixes our society. Don’t just turn the other cheek figuring “I’m not the target so it’s not my problem”. Step up, speak up, and help your fellow man. We have to stand together or continue to fall divided. Just because you are not the one who thinks that way or acts that way does not make you part of the solution. Your silence and complacency in allowing racism to continue to thrive and exist is just as damaging as choosing to participate in it. Get outraged that your neighbor, friend, coworker, or just plain old fellow man is being mistreated and murdered for no reason other than their skin color is different. Teach your children to stand up and speak up against racism when they witness it. Teach them how to identify racism, racial profiling, and racial disparity. We have to fix this. Together.

We are one species, one country, and one society. So lets stand as one. United in our right to life.

Meanwhile, in the middle of an unnamed McMansion in the middle of who knows where...

Gratuitously spoken English is heard. To be fair, it’s actually really impressive pronunciation coming from people whose native language are systemically different to ours. Most shows would just settle for “this dude is actually speaking english but everything is said in japanese for better interpretation” but not Symphogear! No siree!

Relic business is afoot.

We have a random blonde lady shooting random Noise from the thing The Gremlin had in her hands.

She’s really trying her best with her accent. She’s also casually shooting Noise because let’s face it, would we not do the same if it were in our hands?

“i do whatever i want with my big stiff rod pal”

Also, she’s a nudist. To also be fair, if you lived in a fuckoff rich McMansion with weapons beyond your comprehension, you likely couldn’t help but walk around naked doing whatever the fuck you want.

The people she’s talking to are the Americans, which we explained before are portrayed strictly in an antagonistic light. They want some relics, and this lady clearly deals them like like some sort of glorified drug dealer.

Suffice it to say, she’s not a very nice person.

Also, the subs don’t match what they’re saying in English in the slightest.

The name of this woman... is Fine (pronounced fi-neh). And she is the main antagonist of this series.

Fucking identical.

And here is the most unpleasant scene in the entire season.

The person we’ve repeatedly alluded to as The Gremlin is called Yukine Chris. She serves Fine in whatever the hell they’re up to right now. In this case, it’s using the Nehushtan armor to run around with Solomon’s Cane to throw Noise around the city.

“shits gonna get real abusive, pal”

Fine is a narcissistic sociopath. She’s manipulated Chris into servitude by believing she is the only one that can pave humanity into salvation.

“i dont like that smile”

Chris thinks Fine can secure her deepest wish. Ironically? It’s world peace.

“yeah! yeah yeah, world peace, yeah, totally. just treat me like jesus and we’re gucci”

Anyway, she proceeds to thoroughly shock Chris.

The lore behind this is that this is helping her resistance with dealing with the physical demands of the Nehushtan armor, as well as deal with the pieces of Nehushtan that may be still inside. Let’s be real, though. Fine’s a sadist, and just likes hurting people willy nilly.

“fuck... that hurt like shit... hey wait... wouldnt some of the electrical arcs hit you and shock you too, given you’re so naked and close to all this...?”

“ya nevermind that food looks real nice and i want a piece of that fuckin turkey”

It’s a real creepy scene, and it cements Fine’s horribleness really well. One of the most pivotal things to take note is that Fine says that people can only communicate with each other universally through pain. Strong, terrible BDSM overtones notwithstanding, this will be a common (though varying in quality) motif of the entire series.

“BITCH YOU THOUGHT WE WAS GUNNA EAT AFTER THAT FUCKIN’ WISECRACK ABOUT GETTING SHOCKED LIKE YOU’RE EVEN FUCKIN’ NIKOLAI TESLA ALL UP IN HERE WE’RE GONNA ELECTRIC SLIDE YOUR ASS TO NEXT WEEK”

“FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK”

“i was gonna invite her to the circus with the rest of the class ‘cause i felt bad about how i treated her but i guess she’s not here”

“isn’t being a part of /fit/ great, hibiki? can you just feel the gains?”

“yeah who needs doting wife based significant others when you have your gym bros, right newly acquired father figure?”

Hibiki, having acquired a new brain cell during her training, asks the million dollar question:

“Why the fuck are we relying on schoolgirls to deal with all this stuff?”

“anime just be that way, hibiki. i’m just the wrong protagonist in the wrong show.”

Japan is super big on keeping the Symphogear a secret because they are strong and the world really, really wants a slice of the Symphogear pie. These people are basically walking super-weapons. Tsubasa literally dropped a sword the size of a skyscraper. It’s like the premise of the series of Iron Man films.

“do i get like a superhero name too or”

Something to wrap your head around. This was released around 2012, and while the setting seems to be slightly more futuristic, the world it was made in at the time had not been through the era of social media/smartphones we have right now. It was on the cusp of doing so, which means the idea of decent (yet vertical) amateur footage of things happening wasn’t something in the mainstream yet. Why do I say this?

Because in Symphogear, the fact that Symphogear exist is the biggest open secret in this unidentified city ever. NDAs are passed like hotcakes to keep people’s mouths shut on seeing monster-fighting singing superheroes. And they sing, too! Symphogears as an entity are the most high-profile fighting agents out there. Bright colors, no masks, constant singing, fighting in broad daylight in populated areas. Everybody knows, but no one says a word.

Which means every politician on the face of Japan hates these idiots, but they’re stuck with them out of sheer necessity.

“i swear to god if you bring up sam reimi’s spiderman one more goddamned time”

“look it’s the truth, all anime comes back to sam reimi’s spiderman. fate zero did it. uhhh, fucking...baccano, probably? now us. face it. its pretty much the bible.”

It’s also pointed out that the very concept of a Symphogear is born from a science that didn’t exist, and it probably contributes to political frustration as well.

“im going to microwave all your sam reimi spiderman dvds. im gonna do it. you try me, motherfucker. i didnt go into acting and get into this position to hear lectures about a decades old film franchise nobody cares about anymore.”

Hibiki asks where Code Ryoko is.

MEANWHILE... IN METAPHOR LIMBO...

Tsubasa has reached the sea floor of the water metaphor dimension surrounded by water, which is her feelings, which are very gay. Imagine the Mariana Trench but like, deeper. Way deeper. That’s where Tsubasa is.

Leave it to Kazanari “I am literally a sword” Tsubasa to successfully spin the very act of surviving a suicidal move during combat as a failure. That’s a special kind of self loathing right there.

“the sheer force of my love for big ladies is keeping me alive”

Tsubasa asks about the point of Kanade’s sacrifice. Why’d she do it? Why was she so hungry at the end?

She personally shows up to answer that question, because that’s Kanade for you.

“being badass is cool, but you know whats cooler? caring.”

“sharing the sauce... you... you shared the sauce...”

“thats right, tsubasa. i wanted to protect the sauce, but... ultimately... sharing it was better. it wasn’t my sauce, tsubasa. it was everyone’s...”

Kanade’s spirit pulls her out of the dimension of water metaphors as she is slowly undrowning from her emotions.

Tsubasa, like Kanade, was lost in the sauce. But now, after Kanade’s touching peptalk, Tsubasa is lost no longer.

“will i ever see you again in my dreams, kanade...?”

“where there’s a sauce. i’ll be there.”

“ill eat taco bell every day just to see you again kanade”

“and i dont even like taco bell... im more of a chipotle girl...”

After accepting Taco Bell as her lord and savior, she is immediately pulled out of the metaphor zone.

And wakes the fuck up.

send a sunflower to listen to me talk !! aka coral continues to talk way more than he needs to n this entire post was the result of hyperfixating on panels so it’s probably reading way into it.

ok first of all .. big mood i rly gotta rewatch soon .. .. . also i’ve said this before but not like . straight out and mmm i love a lot of what they do but … the fact that no black people or like .. even indian coded people (until prince wu showed up in legend of korra).. bothers me ? i say ‘even’ cause as far as i can tell the idea was to take out white people and ….. the opposite? or even that they’re just on the other side of the globe undiscovered i dunno but . taking out white people? sure. but humans ……. when we first evolved we were black !!!!! not to say that black people aren’t evolved cause fuck no but //… it felt really unnecessary in a tv show / cartoon that otherwise focuses on asian / brown people??

tho i’ve seen people in discourse about whether aang is supposed to be white (esp considering his blue eyes which the other moks didnt have.. personally i think of him bein child of monk (for the primary ability / culture) & waterbender (for the eyes) but the point stands) which wld be .. Bad bc monks aren’t white!! and to have the only white rep be . the savior of the world …. (white saviorism, basically)and that he’s the peace-seeker wld be ! Hm ! but he isn’t .. clearly not white like . the fire nation is ??

n i dont like that korra is seen as his ‘’’aggressive opposite’’’ when she’s clearly brown ?? but also like.. they couldn’t change the original series so that they have the avatar to be brown in the first place is .. as good as we cld really get ig? but we dont have anyone .. more aggressive than her in the entire series and idk it’s just weird. like i get that the next incarnation means she’s native bc water (can the avatar be mixed, anyw ??)

but like they did the same thing in atla too, where the only brown rep (’‘‘brown’‘‘ since asian people are often brown too.. but they mostly had chinese — the fire nation — and /…. who knows with the air nation and .. i think it was korea with the earth nation? i’ll need to check) is where.. everyone is like that? like we see.. the fire nation king and he’s violent and stuff but we also see iroh who’s not. we see a lot of earthbenders who are prone to violence (and similarly this cld be a . Problem) and .. fuck im sure there’s someone who’s peaceable …. toph’s parents? but they were also .Bad so. and then the air nation & being peaceable we dont see anyone who’s rly .. Violent? which if they really are meant to be white wld be . Problematic. esp cause that wld make them the victims of colonialism instead of the perpetrators / havingthem be in a sympathetic light

esp if like. the idea was being like their elements water is harsh? but like. fire n hotheaded. so water as its opposite shld Not and! idk

um but then with the water tribe we don’t .. see peaceable people. that they were all mad at aang (well at least the grandmother) and i guess the mom could be seen as peaceable ? but nothing really else. sokka and katara are both prone to easily giving in to anger, and while their dad…. is generally so (??) we don’t really get any good rep (just like w the earth nation) that lasts more than like. an episode,, and i guess yue but she dies (just like katara & sokka’s mom, the only other ‘‘‘‘peaceable’‘‘‘ person besides women that were affected by the northern water tribe’s sexism). again im probably overanalyzing but !! things i kept thinking about through the show .. thought i’d mention

and as for adding in black people .. like it seemed like an unnecessary exclusion ? maybe for laziness w animating or .. this was the best they could get? but idk it just bothered me a lot while watching the show. it wldve been great to seeing them throwing off their oppressors (the fire nation, in majority) but also having variations in types of people instead of the constant lack of variation in media (specifically with either oversexualized or ‘’’animalistic’‘‘‘ / unfeeling charas)?

n that they would .. replace white people’s role with chinese (?) / japanese people feels like pushing off the weight of colonialism? it wldve been nice imo if we saw the fire nation as white ? like it’s not a big deal or anythin but it’s somethin i‘ve been thinking abt

generally tho i rly like how they handled the southern and northern water tribes, but i do have some problems ?? like how the southern water tribe is seen as … primitive almost? at least in comparison to .. everyone else (except the air nomads except not rly cause even they had their own vehicles of flight things that cld only be opened w air bending etc etc).. really reeks of native stuff which is very valid and i liked how they showed that they weren’t.. v sexist? because native american culture .. Generally (i’m sure there’s exceptions, minor or not) promotes equality ?

um but then they kinda took that out with katara doing all of the washing and being the one to take care of sokka (despite being younger(?)) which is ….. more like indian ? and so it felt like .. they were just like ‘’‘native indian’‘‘‘‘ and indian and equating them.. and also not giving a very good representation? and generally just. Smushing them together.

and then that .. the northern water tribe is the ‘‘‘advanced’‘‘‘‘ one, but then they’re really sexist? which makes it seem like . if you’re going to be an advanced culture there’s gonna be sexism .. and a lot of it is me reading into it cause it’s a kids’ show but .. they gotta be careful when working with colonialism and race specifically as the only markers between tribes and that Didnt happen.

& the swamp benders????? like they were just pretty wack overall but they were native american coded as well but .. in a different way? and it wasj ust .. iffy to me

also that they didn’t have mixed-race people was ????? to me. just. in general. like even after the peace we dont see people w more than one bending ability ?? asdgkmdsfkjdskjg anyway yea this is too long imma stop it here
