Oh my god lalita u tried boba?? :0 i’m sorry cuz u didn’t like the tapioca pearls tho bejebdjehs they’re probably undercooked, they’re not supposed to be too chewy to the point it’s grueling to chew on i mean that would defeat the whole purpose of a boba drink, i suggest trying a different place maybe or making them at home! They’re quite easy to make and prepare but rolling the dough into balls takes ages X__X have you tried adding other types of toppings (?) on your boba? There’s coffee jelly and pandan jelly (i never tried it but it was an option i think) there’s also nata de coco :3 and popping pearls! Those are nice if you don’t mind them straight up bursting liquid into your mouth tjwheiwhe I remember choking when i first tried them lmaooo 😭 they’re good tho i always get the mango popping pearls!! Are there other flavors for the drinks in that boba place you went to? I usually get taro flavored milk tea or honeydew milk tea, i don’t prefer drinking regular milk tea cuz it can taste weird to me :P sometimes it’s too light sometimes too bitter it’s never just right so i just settle for the flavored options

KARMALITA!
Yes, I did try a boba milk tea. Under is the tea beverages page from the restaurant's paper printed menu. A few months ago, my mom took me to get sushi after a dental appointment I had. When we arrived at the site, I went ahead of my mom and entered the restaurant. As soon as I entered, I walked towards the middle-aged lady standing behind the cash register counter with my eyes locked on her. I stopped in my tracks on the tile floor. I stared. She stared back at me. Then I bursted into laughter. Then she laughed.
***
After I received my order of spider rolls, she handed me a menu. She told me, “You can keep it.” I said, “Thank you. I love you.” Then I walked out the store.
re (in response to): “have you tried adding other toppings (?) on your boba?”
I haven't tried yet! It's my first time buying one from a store. I would love to try egg pudding with the boba milk tea :B eggs come from chicken hen cloaca.
re (in response to): Are there other flavors for the drinks in that boba place you went to?

I took these photos while laying in bed :B yes, my mom is proud of me.
My order of a boba milk tea came with a lot of boba. I finished the tea before getting to the bubble/boba/tapioca pearls. I wanted to go with something basic (boba milk tea) because I get stressed looking at multiple options and unknown ingredients. Hmmn, black tea with milk mixed in and tapioca pearls; that's something that seems familiar. I genuinely liked the taste of the milk tea minus the boba. I would get it again and again and again.

18. your boba/tea order?
for boba i usually do just like standard black tea or taro w/ tapioca pearls
for tea i often get an iced chai latte w/ oat milk and maple syrup. if i’m at work (i work at a cafe) i make an iced chai w/ oat milk and panela syrup OR an iced earl grey w/ oat milk and white chocolate and pistachio syrup. if i’m just drinking tea at home it’s usually earl grey with nothing added. if you couldn’t tell i adore tea lol
29. preferred pasta noodle?
big fan of any spiral shaped pasta

Five Drinks that Define Me
I was tagged by @mikaharuka, so let's go~
Coffee. Strong, but the instant type - I don't have any money or space for a proper coffee maker. With milk, no sugar.
Earl Black Tea. If I wanna feel healthy ~
Mojito. If I wanna feel healthy while drinking. Favorite cocktail in the world. The mint, lime, rum, brown sugar and ice really make this one for me.
Coconut Milk Tea with Rainbow Jelly and Mango Popping Boba or Caramel Milk Tea with Tapioca Pearls. Yes, I am basic, yes, I drink Bubble Tea, yes, I have still a good 3kg of dry tapioca pearls in my cabinet I ordered from Amazon a year ago and lost interest in after the second time I tried this at home.
Vodka. I am Russian. What did you expect?
Leaving an open tag for anyone who is interested 🖤

OOOH can we hear your favourite bubble tea orders? 👀 in as little or much detail as you like!!!
Hohoho I'm VERY passionate about bubble tea 😏
My favourite most amazing adored flavour is Wintermelon milk tea: it's smooth and balanced and milky and creamy and perfect. That is the best milk tea and I won't accept criticism over this.
Second favourite is Peach milk tea. This one can be a bit too sweet (coming from "sweet tooth incarnate") depending on the store's recipe but its overall a great choice when wWintermelon is not available.
Next is Japanese pop rice milk tea. This one is unfortunately only available in 1 of boba chains in the city and all the stores are far away from my house so I don't get to have it that often. It's roasty and smooth and tastes just like the pop rice snacks
Watermelon milk tea is surprisingly good and it's pink! And pink drinks are always cute hehe. Tried it once on a whim and it became a favourite, really refreshing.
Original milk tea is also really good. It's usually the same in any boba chain: black milk tea with "Thai flavouring" whatever that is... in places where bubble tea is mot really popular yet (my hometown) is literally the only viable option 🥲
Some honorable mentions are: Taro milk tea (very creamy, I was surprised), Honeydew melon milk tea, Brown sugar milk tea and Thai milk tea (that it's not the same as Original milk tea🤷🏾)
When it comes to trying new flavours I normally try to choose something that's very different from things I've tried in the past. I'd say most common flavours are good but I have had some fails in the past... very sad indeed. Hazelnut milk tea & Caramel milk tea are the worst I've ever had.
When talking about toppings popping boba is my favourite: any fruity flavour will work but I try to choose something that compliments the flavour of the drink. Tapioca pearls are a classic, pretty solid option and they look amazing with any color drink so there's that. Golden tapioca pearls are better cause they're a tiny bit sweeter and much softer. I don't really like the jelly and cheese doesn't belong on drinks so I never have those. I tried red beans once and was not a fan of the texture...
And that is for bubble tea from stores. When I make it myself at home I buy the strawberry popping ball in the asian grocery shop cause thats the only flavour they have and I rather make the tapioca pearls over buying the premade one but I'm also very lazy and they take so long so I never do 😅 so strawberry popping balls..
With flavour I have 2 syrups: watermelon & mi t and belgian waffle. The watermelon one I use when I make earl grey tea and the belgian waffle when using any other tea type. But I recently discovered another great combination 😳 pu'er tea with homemade peach syrup! Just out of this world amazing.
And that's the end of my rant, thanks for coming to my TedTalk and thank you for reading if you made it this far ☺️ you get some boba as a reward 🧋

Bubble Tea: A Delicious Journey into the World of Boba Tea
Tumblr media
If you're a fan of unique beverages and sweet treats, you've probably heard of bubble tea, also known as boba tea. This delightful drink, with its intriguing bubbles and chewy tapioca pearls, has taken the world by storm. Whether you're searching for "bubble tea near me" or "boba milk tea near me," this article will not only introduce you to the world of bubble tea but also guide you on how to make this refreshing and satisfying drink right in the comfort of your own home. boba shops near me
What is Bubble Tea?
Bubble tea, often referred to as boba tea, is a Taiwanese-originated beverage that has gained immense popularity worldwide. It's a delightful concoction characterized by its sweet, flavored tea base, chewy tapioca pearls, and the unique addition of bubbles. These bubbles, also known as "boba" or "pearls," are made from tapioca starch and give the drink its signature texture.
What is Boba Made Of?
Tapioca pearls, the star of bubble tea, are made from tapioca starch, which is extracted from the roots of the cassava plant. To make tapioca pearls, tapioca starch is mixed with water to form a dough, which is then rolled into small balls. These balls are cooked until they become soft and chewy, creating the delightful texture that bubble tea enthusiasts love. popping boba near me
How Do You Make Boba?
Making boba at home requires tapioca pearls, which you can find in many grocery stores or order online. Follow the instructions on the packaging for cooking these pearls. Typically, you'll need to boil them until they float to the surface, then simmer for a few more minutes until they reach your desired consistency. Afterward, drain and rinse them in cold water to prevent sticking.
What Are the Bubbles in Bubble Tea?
The bubbles in bubble tea are the result of mixing the tea with various ingredients, such as milk, fruit juices, or flavored syrups. When shaken vigorously or blended, these ingredients create a frothy layer on top, giving the drink its bubbly appearance.
What is Bubble Milk Tea?
Bubble milk tea is a popular variation of bubble tea that includes milk in its recipe. It combines sweetened tea, milk, and tapioca pearls to create a creamy and slightly sweet beverage that appeals to many taste buds.  what is bubble in bubble tea
How to Cook Tapioca Pearls for Bubble Tea
Cooking tapioca pearls is a simple process. Boil a pot of water, add the pearls, and stir occasionally. When they start to float, lower the heat and simmer for about 15-20 minutes. The pearls should become soft but still have a chewy texture. Drain and rinse them in cold water to cool them down.
How to Make Boba Bubbles
To create the characteristic bubbles in bubble tea, you'll need to vigorously shake or blend your beverage. You can use a cocktail shaker, a blender, or even a sealed container to achieve the desired frothiness.
How to Prepare Boba
Now that you have your cooked tapioca pearls, you can prepare your bubble tea. First, select your tea base, whether it's black, green, or a fruit tea. Brew your tea and let it cool to room temperature. Then, add your choice of sweeteners, milk or non-dairy alternatives, and flavorings, like fruit syrups or purees. Finally, add the cooked tapioca pearls, ice cubes, and shake or blend to create the bubbles.
What is Pearl Tea?
Pearl tea is another term for bubble tea or boba tea, often used to describe the drink's unique appearance due to the tapioca pearls.
What is in Boba Milk Tea?
Boba milk tea typically consists of brewed tea (commonly black or green tea), milk (regular or non-dairy), sweeteners (like sugar or honey), and, of course, the star ingredient – tapioca pearls.
How Do I Make Milk Tea?
If you're interested in making milk tea from scratch, simply brew your choice of tea (black, green, or herbal), add your preferred milk, and sweeten to taste. You can experiment with different types of tea and milk to find your perfect combination.
How to Make Bubble Tea Recipe
To make a basic bubble tea recipe at home, follow these steps:
Brew your choice of tea and let it cool.
Cook tapioca pearls according to the package instructions.
Combine the brewed tea, sweetener, milk, and ice in a shaker or blender.
Add the cooked tapioca pearls to your glass.
Pour the tea mixture over the pearls.
Shake or blend vigorously to create bubbles.
Insert a thick straw, commonly referred to as a "boba straw," to enjoy your bubble tea.
Popping Boba, Bursting Boba, and Boba Coffee
For those looking for unique twists on traditional bubble tea, there are various options available. Popping boba and bursting boba are gelatinous spheres filled with fruit juices that burst in your mouth when you bite into them, adding an extra burst of flavor to your drink. Additionally, if you're a coffee lover, you can explore boba coffee options at specialty cafes, searching for "boba coffee near me."

you could honestly make a lot of drinks at home !!! i see it all the time on tik tok nfjsjf the tapioca pearls themselves aren’t all that difficult to make + u can order them online too i believe !! also depending on where u live / what u can order online, there are like those “instant” boba kits like trader joe’s has them and they’re honestly not bad !!

Korean Food In Uae
Hello and thank you for visiting my blog. Because I know you're probably looking for Korean restaurants or palaces that serve K-food in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, I'll do everything in my power to make you happy. In conclusion, Dubai is home to an abundance of Korean restaurants, but not everyone can get there. Why is this the case? Yes, I will address your issue with the price, which is so excessive that even Korean food enthusiasts can't afford to eat there. Everyone will be content, nevertheless, because this Korean restaurant charges a reasonable price for its Korean cuisine.
Visit the Korean eatery Roll & Bubble for food. The Al-Barsha street position on the ground floor of the Al-Khoory hotel is sufficiently prominent, so you can find it immediately and with ease. The dish is frequently referred to as Korean street food or food sold on Korean streets. This lunch is fantastic, so men, come see what you've been missing out on. In addition, as was already noted, the restaurant's menu includes popular Korean street food. This dish is well-liked in Korea due to its flavor and the components required to produce it, such as Korean sauce or paste, which becomes one of the most important ingredients for manufacturing that particular Korean food.
Tumblr media
Due to the summer's OMG unbearable heat in Dubai, The Roll and Bubble Korean Restaurant offer a delivery service. They are juggling two distinct food delivery applications, Talabat and Deliveroo. So, if you don't want to leave the house, you can utilize those applications to get Korean food. the bubbly tea, tea with boba, and tea with milk. Whatever you choose to call it, there is no disputing that it has quickly spread across the country in terms of popularity. If you're new to the fad and don't know what boba tea is, don't worry; we've got you covered.
What is boba tea? Milk or fruit juice, tea, and a variety of toppings are the ingredients in the Taiwanese treat known as boba tea. It is available in a variety of flavors and may be customized with a wide range of toppings. Pearl Milk Tea, the most well-known boba tea concoction, is created with milk, black tea, and tapioca pearls (little black, squishy balls). However, why is it so popular? Given that everyone can find something to enjoy. There are several flavors and toppings to choose from. It's fun to go out and experiment with different toppings and beverages. It doesn't take long to find cocktail combinations you enjoy and repeat ordering.
The boba tea balls are exactly what? Tapioca pearls are the balls you see circling in your boba tea. The balls go by a variety of names, including Boba Pearls, Boba Balls, Tapioca Pearls, and Tapioca Balls. Whatever name you choose, your boba barista will most likely be able to identify what you're purchasing. Tapioca pearls have traditionally been made using tapioca starch, which is derived from the cassava root plant. To make a substance that resembles dough, brown sugar, water, and starch are combined. Tapioca is made by rolling it into small balls and cooking it in water for an hour.

Genshin Event Tavern Tales - Genshin men as drinks + their subtle flirting
Characters: Aether, Albedo, Ayato, Bennett, Chongyun, Dainsleif, Diluc, Gorou, Itto, Kaeya, Kazuha, Razor, Scaramouche, Tartaglia, Thoma, Venti, Xiao, Xingqiu, Zhongli, gn!reader
Warnings and notes: NOT PROOFREAD, alcohol in some, based on my own interpretations, some drinks are fictional and my own creation (except if they happen to overlap with a drink I don’t know about), some are researched on the interweb (which took a long while btw), Also, which one would you order? Haha.
Aether - Traveler’s Hope
A loose leaf black tea mixed in with dried sunsettia fruit. The result is a fairly simple tasting tea, with a hint of sweetness from the sunsettia. A drink that is easily loved by many because of how uncomplicated it is. It’s kind to the tongue and smooth to the taste.
“Just something simple is fine. Traveler’s Hope? That sounds good. How are you doing with this bartender work? I could help out once in a while...Only when you’re on shift though,”
Albedo - Home by the Mountains
Made with 80% dark chocolate, vanilla and frothy milk, there’s a sophisticated bitterness with an aftertaste of aromatic vanilla. It’s familiar and comfortable, like sitting next to a fireplace in winter. Perhaps the slight sugar rush helps with keeping one’s mind awake and active when pondering over tests and examinations. Marshmallows on top are optional.
“Dragonspine? Yes, it is quite cold. Not to worry, I do have my own ways to keep myself warm aside from the fire. If you come along, I assume it’ll be a warmer experience,”
Ayato - The Tieguanyin Pearl
Tieguanyin black tea leaves boiled with milk. Tapioca pearls are added afterwards. The mixture brings a complex, roasted and nutty flavour. The taste is quite luxurious, but it’s contrasted with the fun pop of pearls in your mouth. Can be served iced or hot (Don’t be fooled, it’s just a fancy name for boba *wink*).
“Mm, this is exquisite, thank you. It seems that you’ve put your own twist to the drink. How about considering being a bartender or tea master at the Kamisato House instead?”
Bennett - Red Berry Blast
Fresh strawberries soaked in a lemonade for hours. A wonderful, refreshing booster for those low-energy days. The brace-yourself-sourness from freshly squeezed lemons and strawberries combine into a good wake-up drink. Guaranteed to give you a strength bonus.
“Wow! I just got back from a commission, but I feel like I’m ready to take on another one! Let’s go together next time! What time are you done?”
Chongyun - Divine Ice
Iced tea with crushed blackberries, mint and Qingxin flowers. It’s only the slightest bit sweet but still packs a punch from the mint, leaving a lingering cold feel on the tongue. Perfect for hot days.
“This is...impressive! I can feel my spiritual energy rising! M-Might I have the recipe for this?...No? Uhm...Then do you mind making it for me every time?”
Dainsleif - Lost Star
Butterfly pea tea whisked with milk and half a shot of vodka. Served in a glass with spherical, purple-coloured ice. Pouring it into the glass creates a picturesque blend of purple and cream blue, like looking into the galaxy. It’s a beautiful looking drink, yet the taste is one that brings out a hit of nostalgia.
“...Remembering the past is easier with a drink in hand. This one...is particularly evocative...Care to sit and join me for a moment?”
Diluc - Best-Kept Secret
It looks like plain old grape juice. The secret? A squeeze of lemon. Just a tad. It really brings out the great flavour of grapes, the ones from the best vineyard in Mondstadt, whose owner also likes to keep to himself.
“A little different, but pleasantly so. Seems like you’re adjusting well to your role as bartender. Well, I don’t mind. I suppose it’ll be more reason to check on the tavern more often,”
Gorou - General’s Secret Colours
Matcha, milk and strawberry compote layered on top of each other over ice to make a tricolour drink of green, white and pink. It’s sweet and creamy with a touch of nuttiness from the matcha. Order this when you want to indulge in something sweet.
“!!! This is...! Amazing! I know what would pair well with this. Dango! Speaking of, you haven’t been to Inazuma in a while. It’s great to visit you here, but it’s different from walking around Inazuma Town with you,”
Itto - Roar of the Mighty
Orange and passionfruit blended with ice and water to create a slushie. A drink that will put you in a good mood and high spirits all round. The colour of it is striking like the sunrise, and it’s difficult not to keep coming back for more.
“Now that’s a drink I’d pay for!...Ugh, if only I had more Mora...Hey, how ‘bout takin’ me as your bodyguard eh? Hm? What for? Well, you were complainin’ about all the drunks here at night!”
Kaeya - Freeze in Your Tracks
Two parts sparkling wine, one part dandelion wine and a shot of blue Curacao. This arctic blue drink is usually served in a rocks glass with a large ice ball instead of ice cubes. Classy, charming and playful. Just one sip and you might get addicted.
“You might give the original bartender a run for his money at this rate. Anyhow, you know one glass is never enough for me. I’ll have you coming back to my table over and over again, sweetheart,”
Kazuha - Poetry in a Cup
A hot green tea blend with dried peach and apricot. A classic and mature taste but refreshing like new sights and new experiences. Drinking a cup is like travelling without moving. You can almost feel the fresh air around you.
“It’s revitalizing. Bittersweet and honeyed at the same time, though most likely more enjoyable when drank with a companion. Pay me no mind, I shall wait till you’re done for the day,”
Razor - Home Under the Stars
A blend of wolfhook and valberry juice. A straightforward and uncomplicated recipe. The berries used can only be found in Mondstadt, and so for Mondstadters, this blend tastes like home. Anyone can make this juice after a quick forage and a lot of squeezing.
“...Taste like...wolfhook...Good...but don’t gather by yourself! Dangerous.”
Scaramouche - Icy Red
Blood orange juice with a shot of lime juice. There’s no alcohol, but why is it so bitter? It’s the blood orange peel at the bottom of the glass. There’s a shock of sourness from the lime too. An intense drink that almost feels like a slap to the face.
“...I’m not staying around here for long, so get that other bartender on shift while you stay here and entertain me...I’m not gunna say it again,”
Tartaglia - Death o’clock
A red wine heavy base with a shot of raspberry brandy and blackberry juice. Alcohol heavy and certainly strong. The drink borders on a mahogany red, teetering on the line of turning black. If you need liquid courage. This is it.
“I’ve drank stronger blends in Snezhnaya, so nothing to worry about. I’ll be just fine. Though, I do wonder if you’ll take the liberty to take care of me if I have too much. Should I order a dozen more?”
Thoma - Perfect Morning
Espresso, melted dark chocolate and heated milk. Whipped cream topping is optional. There is no other way to wake up after you’ve tasted this. It’s warm and is a great start to the day. Even better if mixed by your husband.
“I’m surprised! It’s coffee, but, seems like I won’t have any issues drinking this any time of the day! I’ll make it my mission to figure out the ingredients, it’ll be my turn to make it for you next time,”
Venti - Party on the Statue
Two parts dandelion wine one part green apple cider. Can only be bought in a bottle, and so its usually a communal drink--though it’s not unusual to see someone drinking a whole bottle by themselves at the tavern. It tastes slightly sweet, but the cider is a refreshing hit, like a cold breeze.
“Hm? What’s with that look? Oh, cheer up! I’ll just have a bottle today, I’m mostly here to visit you, after all. I’ll miss out on all your cute expressions if I pass out. Ehe~”
Xiao - The Nightly Watch
Equal parts espresso and almond milk. Creamy, nutty and aromatic. For those who want a slightly healthier alternative to normal coffee. Almond also aids in boosting alertness, so it’s good for keeping your mind awake.
“You made this?...It’s a little...strong...That bitter taste...What do you call it? Coffee? Huh? Don’t take it away, I’ll drink it! W-Who said I wouldn’t?”
Xingqiu - Dark Light
Pu-erh tea base with a shot of milk and two tablespoons of coffee. Mostly tastes like black tea but richer and smoother to the throat and a good energy boost during those nights where you’re hiding under your blanket with a night light, trying to finish a book. It’s bad for your eyes, so it’s a good thing pu-erh and milk helps with maintaining one’s eye health.
“Ah yes! A familiar taste, but more velvety. It’s easy to drink. You’re most welcome to sit and drink at my home library. And I’ve just recently obtained the newest volume of the book you’ve been looking for!”
Zhongli - Vow on the Rocks
Cassia wine. Also known as Osmanthus wine. This blend is a mix of soaked coconut flakes in osmanthus wine and a tablespoon of coconut milk. The result is a slightly creamy and sweet taste. A modern take to a traditional wine, topped with gold flakes. It may not taste the same as you remember, but it’s still good to share memories over.
“...Hm...It’s an extraordinary and invigorating taste. A short stroll down memory lane, but also a reminder to look towards the future...Hopefully one that includes you in it,”

Seungcheol threw the wrench on the pile of tools next to him before rolling himself out from underneath the car he was working on. “I don’t see the point in it, Shua.” He sat up, grabbing the towel he had next to him, and tried his best to wipe the black smudges of his fingers. “I’m already a disappointment to my parents, why not add one more to their list?” He shrugged, eyeing his best friend who had decided to come and visit him at the car shop he worked at.
“I think Shua has a point; you can’t brush this off. You don’t want to end up forgotten in a ditch somewhere.” Jeonghan said, pointedly resting his forearms on top of the hood of the car he had been working on.
“I’m not going to end up in a ditch and forgotten. The higher-ups--” Seungcheol stuck a pointer finger out and pointed at the cement ceiling, “are just going to set me up with someone.” He stood up and brushed off his whitewashed jeans, the only ones he seemed to wear as they had various oil stains etched into the creases of the fabric. In actuality, he had many of the same pair, and each of them had their own unique patterns of different oil stains.
“But wouldn’t it be better if you married your soulmate, your other half, your partner in crime, the person the Stars destined you to be with,” Joshua spoke in rushed sentences as he ran a frustrated hand through his jet black hair. His wedding ring shining in the light of the sun, glowing in all its glory. A reminder that he had chosen the path that he and Jeonghan were trying to get Seungcheol to take.
Sometimes curiosity would seep in s when he saw how happy his best friends were with their soulmates, or when the ticking of the clock scarred into the skin of his wrist, and got too loud to ignore. Seungcheol knew he didn’t belong on that path. He was never one to follow the crowd, and the proof was in his parent’s disappointment when he decided to study music instead of medicine.
“Nope.” He stood up and closed the hood of the car. He could feel their glares burning holes into his scalp as he strode over and opened the driver’s door. “I’m a firm believer that soulmates are made not found.” Seungcheol grinned before getting behind the wheel and inserting the keys into the ignition. He had spent all morning working on a minor problem in the engine; he was hoping that after many failed attempts, he would finally be able to get the car to start again.
With a deep sigh, he turned the key listening as the engine sputtered a few times. The hope and confidence he had gained diminishing with each hiccup until, finally, the car roared back to life. A sigh of relief leaving his chapped lips along with a light laugh. He rested his forearms against the old battered steering wheel, peering through the windshield, catching Joshua’s nod of disapproval. He turned on his heels and walked out of the large garage door of the shop.
Seungcheol knew his friend’s meant well, and he knew they didn’t want him to end up unhappy with someone that wasn’t his other half. But how was he supposed to be sure that happiness was a given? When at the end of the day, everyone’s given soulmate was chosen at birth by a group of old white dudes calling themselves Stars.

Hour 2 - 18:00
“What are you going to do then?” Jeonghan closed the hood of the car and dusted his hands. His blonde hair grasped the light of the afternoon sun. Seungcheol placed down the paper bag that contained his and Jeonghan’s lunch on top of the aluminum table they kept in the far corner of the shop.  “I don’t know...eat lunch.” He stated, shrugging and started taking the contents out of the paper bag. “Shua leave?”
Jeonghan rolled his eyes and pushed himself off the hood of the car. He strode over to where Seungcheol was and took the burrito he had held out to him. “Said he doesn’t want to stay and watch you ruin his life.”
“I’m not ruining my life,” Seungcheol sighed, shaking his head and sat on top of the table, unwrapping his burrito. “I’m choosing the road not taken.” He finished before taking a decent bite out of his burrito.
“That’s ruining your life in my book.” Jeonghan gave him a pointed look and unwrapped the foil of his burrito, cursing when he noticed some its contents start to fall out of its confinement. “Aren’t you at least a little bit curious about how they look?” He dug inside the paper bag and took out a napkin to clean off the salsa stain of his grey graphic tee. Jeonghan rarely dressed down, unless he was working. Though, sometimes he’d show up in outfits Seungcheol always deemed to clean for the oil splatters he would obtain throughout the day.
“If looks were the all end tell-all, you’d be an actor instead of the owner of your father’s car shop.”
“Are you calling me sexy, Choi Seungcheol?” Jeonghan gasped, making the other boy scoff in annoyance. Seungcheol took another bite of his burrito, the salsa running down the stubble of his chin and sighed. “Cause may I remind you I am happily married.” Jeonghan jokes, raising his hand, wiggling his ring finger.
Seungcheol squinted as the ring got caught in the crossfire between the heat and summer sun. The churning at the pit of his stomach started up again, along with the little voice annoying voice that lived in the back of his head. The red block of numbers on the inside of his wrist laughing at him as he tried his best to push the thought to the back of his head. Like he had done his entire life.
“Sure...but that would just be an excuse, and it wouldn’t be fair towards the other person.” He shrugged, finally cleaning his chin the rest of his mouth. He crumpled up the foil in his hands before throwing the ball he had formed into the paper bag. “It wouldn’t matter soon anyway; I don’t have much time left.” He jumped off the table and made his way to shelves where they kept most of the tools along with small spare car parts they might need some time in the future.
“How much time do you have left?” Jeonghan asked a little too exasperatedly than he would’ve liked, but Seungcheol had managed to catch his tone, and it was starting to make him feel uneasy. He closed a drawer he had mindlessly opened and dropped his head. Seungcheol hated looking at his timer because it never brought a good reaction out of him. He hated the way the anxiety would filter in through his veins as he let his mind wander to the what-ifs.
For as long as he could remember, he only allowed himself to stare at the number scar before bed but never enough to dwell on it. Last night he had twenty-four hours left; now he was positive the timer had reached the single-digit zone, and to be frank, he was afraid. He didn’t want to feel the pressure against his chest and the shortness of his breath. He didn’t want to feel the shaking in his hands and sweat that formed against his brow bone. Seungcheol had already chosen, but he knew that the second he glanced over at the timer, his doubt would start to run free. And he hated that feeling more than anything, but he also hated Jeonghan’s burning gaze staring him down as if he were doing something he wasn’t supposed to be doing. So he caved.
He turned his wrist and pushed the bracelets he used to hide his soulmate mark with his other hand. His breath caught itself in the back of his throat, his lungs closing in like two crushing walls as he saw the numbers ticking down. For a split second, he wondered if he had chosen the right path if his parent’s and his friends had been right all along. But he had been so sure just like he was confident that his name was Choi Seungcheol, that he had chosen right, so why was he letting his thoughts take over.
Maybe it was the teachings of the Stars he grew up reading at home and at school, or the guilt has finally started to consume him. Whatever it was, he decided to push it aside, bury it deep inside the archives of his mind. He had chosen right, and he wasn’t going to let any false pretenses change his mind.
“Five hours.”

Hour 3 - 19:00
Seungcheol moved the straw of his bubble, creating soft caramel tidal waves in the cup. He had already picked out all the tapioca pearls leaving him to deal with the unpleasant honeydew tea he had ordered. The soft melodies of an old pop song played in the background, drowning out the flirting going on between the lovers in front of him. He kept his eyes trained on his cup; it had started to accumulate the condensation that came with the humidity of the summertime. His index finger traced over the water droplets that had fallen onto the table, creating a small picture of nothing.
Jeonghan had dragged him to their usual boba shop after closing up the shop for the night. He had given Joshua a frantic phone call, claiming it was a 911 type of emergency. Seungcheol wasn’t sure how they weren’t tired at having the same conversation, and why they couldn’t let him live with the consequences in peace? If he ended up unhappy, that was his problem, and he would eventually deal with it, but he couldn’t stand the way everyone around him always seemed to have an opinion on how he should live his life.
It had started the day he was born, scarred with a mark against his own will. It carried out onto his childhood, his parents and teachers telling him how to sit, how to dress, how to speak, and how to breathe. When he left for college the same day his parents decided to disown him, he had finally felt free. He thought for himself, walked for himself and lived for himself. But now his best friend’s the ones he thought he could always count on and he felt knew him better than anyone in the world. Where the ones were trying to guilt-trip him into making a choice, he had made years ago, and frankly, he was getting really tired of it.
“Are you even listening to us Seungcheol, this is your future you're putting at risk,” Joshua whispered angrily, his grip on his cup grew tight enough his knuckles had started turning white.
“Why does it matter?” Seungcheol lightly flicked the straw of his drink before pushing it away and crossing his arms. Jeonghan and Joshua both looked at him as if he was growing a third head, annoying him even more. He wasn’t sure why this was such a big deal to them, it wasn’t their life getting ruined.
“It matters because we don’t want to see you dead.”
Tumblr media
Hour 4 - 20:00
“Are you serious? Do you guys actually believe that kind of stuff?” Seungcheol shook his head and looked out the restaurant window. The sun had finished going down for it’s deep slumber and in return awakened the night life of the city. He took in the people smiling and laughing as they joked and clinged onto one another. He saw limbs start to give out as the alcohol they had previously consumed started to replace their blood. Seungcheol found himself wishing he was one of those people, where the one controlling his body wasn’t the one that gave up on their dreams but instead still held onto that small sliver of hope. It would at least be an escape for a little and most importantly it would be an escape from the painful talk his best friend’s were giving him.
“Fuck you Seungcheol.” Joshua spat out, quickly he stood up grabbing his coat and shrugged it on. “I’m not going to stay with you and watch the clock count down until you die.” He stuffed his hands in his pocket and took out his wallet before throwing some money onto the table. “Are you coming with me?” He said before facing Jeonghan who was biting his bottom lip in contemplation. Seungcheol saw the gears turn in his head as he thought over his options, his eyes traveling between the furious looking Joshua and himself.
“Joshua calm down, look there have been some cases in the news lately of mysterious deaths and the only thing they have in common is that their timers went out before they got to meet their soulmate. I don’t know if it's all connected but it can’t just be coincidence Seungcheol.” Jeonghan stated, he tapped his forefinger against the wooden table as Joshua eyed him down waiting impatiently.
“And what if it is, what if I do find this person and then they turn out to be horrible? You guys got lucky but my life has never been a series of unfortunate events since the beginning of time so who's to say this is any different?”
“If you keep sitting here and mopping and feeling sorry for yourself, you’ll never find out.” Jeonghan nodded before taking out his wallet and throwing money onto the table. He hated the pity he saw behind his eyes. It only frustrated him because to him it felt like they had given up on him already. That they were planning his funeral without him leaving the world yet. Seungcheol wasn’t entirely convinced that death was at the end of this unfortunate journey, he sadly hoped it was. That way his friend’s would actually have something to pity, but he was alive and healthy (for the most part) so their pity in Seungcheol’s eyes was uncalled for.
“Then let me find out. Everyone is always telling me what I should and shouldn’t do, I didn’t need you guys to also be one of those people too. You’re supposed to be my friends but here you are nagging me like you’re my parents. If I’m not worthy of hanging with you guys anymore because I’m not married and I have no interest in ever getting married then just leave me alone. I’m better off by myself anyway.”
Seungcheol knew that as soon as the words left his mouth they had been a mistake, but mistake or not he would never take them back. No matter how the luck of hurt flashing in their handsome features affected him more than it should’ve. These few hours could be the last of his life and instead of living it to his fullest with his closest friends he was pushing them away. Just like he always did whenever he felt too comfortable or afraid.
“Jeonghan let’s just go, he’s already made up his mind. He’s not going to listen to us.” Joshua sighed, the exhaustion was evident on his face. It was clear he had given up long before the events of tonight. He knew how stubborn Seungcheol was, he knew that once he sets his mind to something there’s no way to turn it back. Seungcheol suspected that’s why he hadn’t tried as hard as Jeonghan to convince him to change his mind.
“Cheol, just think about it okay. You don’t have to go out and actively look for that person but just keep an open mind and they might just appear right before you. I know you think that we’re trying to do this to change you or to get you to settle down, but we don’t want to turn on the news tomorrow and have your names be part of one of the victims. If you can’t do this for us or yourself at least do it for you mom.” Jeonghan nodded one last time before scooting himself out of the booth. He stood sending a glare to Joshua that wasn’t missed by Seungcheol and somehow it made him feel uneasy inside. He didn’t want to be the one to cause a rift between him and Joshua’s friendship, they had known each other longer than they had known Seungcheol. For half of their life’s Seungcheol was simply an outsider between the threesome. He didn’t know at what moment they became inseparable, but now he wished they hadn’t.
At least they wouldn’t be involved in the webs of Seungcheol’s complicated life, and they certainly wouldn’t be here showing the utmost care for him when he himself felt like he was unworthy of it.
“I’ll call you tomorrow” Jeonghan mumbled before dragging Joshua out of the restaurant, mumbling angrily underneath his breath. Seungcheol knew the small comment was Jeonghan’s way of holding onto the little amount of hope he had for his friend. The hope that he would walk into the car shop tomorrow morning and see Seungcheol passed out drunk, his drool stain embedded into the checkered pattern of the old battered couch in the office, because he couldn’t remember how to unlock his front door.
Though, it was a phrase full of hope, it wasn’t a promise, and it felt more like a goodbye to Seungcheol. It made him uneasy and Seungcheol hated feeling uneasy because it only made the ticking sound of the clock tattooed onto his skin louder.
The front door bell to the restaurant sounded, signaling that someone had walked in or out. He turned to face out the window again and saw Jeonghan and Joshua in a heated argument before Jeonghan kept dragging him away by the ear this time. The scene could’ve been comical to him at some point, but now he just wondered if they were all going to be okay by the time the night ended and morning came again.
Either way it was clear to him that they had walked out of his life, maybe not for good but they also wouldn’t be the first ones either.
Tumblr media
Hour 5 -21:00
Seungcheol paid the bill and exited the restaurant quietly, his best attempt to remain invisible. It would be a lie if didn’t admit how scared he was after Jeonghan and Joshua left him alone with his thoughts for the first time since he awoke that morning.
Would his faith really be death?
Or where they using their evil tactics against him to convince him to do the right thing. Needless to say he was scared, more scared than he ever was whenever he thought about falling in love.
He had once, a long time ago, back when he was still studying music production in college, before he dropped out and took up a job at Mr. Yoon’s carshop. During the three years he was there, all the songs he had composed resembled something about her. Whether it was a phrase she had said or the way the color blue seemed to make her honey doe eyes pop. He was in love, head over heels, ready to give it all up, his friends, his pride, his dream, his life, everything under the sun, for her. He had his bags packed long before she had agreed to run away with him.
In fact, he almost did, but the morning as he stood underneath the winter sun, waiting at the bus stop with two overprized one way tickets, with his fingers threatening to fall off from the cool. Everything became clear to him, she had abandoned him and their plan. She had given up on him, just like his parents had when he first told him he was going to follow his dream, instead of theirs.
Seungcheol was angry, it boiled inside of him like an overflowing calderon, and the closer he got to the university and his dorm, the more it spilled over. In a frenzy he had entered his home and destroyed everything he owned. His studio setup, his computer, his many notebooks that were filled with lyrics, because everything had been touched by her and he wanted nothing to do with her anymore. Not after she had lied boldly to his face the night before when they shared the most intimate moment with each other.
And just like he promised to her underneath the moonlight, he gave it all up, but this time because she had broken him.
There was a letter she had left for him to find. It didn’t come into his possession after he had stopped attending classes and was living on Jeonghan and Joshua’s couch. The university had called him to pick up his belongings from his dorm after he dropped all his classes on whim one Saturday afternoon. When he did, when he opened the front door of the wretched dorm room, the room that once held so many beautiful memories turned sour. The toe of his shoe was met with a brown paper envelope, his name scribbled neatly on the back. Instantly he knew who it was from.
Seungcheol had once prided himself in memorizing the way her letters curved with one another. A useless talent he now wished he could forget entirely. With a hesitant he opened it and skimmed through, not wanting to linger long enough on every single one of her words so it would hurt less.
In the end it did.
It hurt more than her leaving him stranded on the bus stop that morning. It hurt more than finding out that the little things she had strategically left at his place had mysteriously disappeared when he came back home that morning. It hurt more than giving up entirely on a dream so pure that it ended up tainted. It hurt more than dying, or so he assumed because now he finally knew the truth. A truth he had been blinded to the entire three years they spent lost in each other’s thoughts and arms.
She didn’t love, and she never did. She had a passion that consumed her to the point of greed and when she realized she wasn’t going to achieve her dream with Seungcheol at her side.
She left and he had given up love for good.
Which is why Seungcheol was so against the entire soulmate phenomenon. If death was the outcome then so be it, even though the thought of his mom finding him out he was dead scared him to the point it welcomed chills to his body. He was stubborn though, and his father always hated that about him because it reminded him of his younger self. But Seungcheol was never going to give in, no matter how loud the click on his wrist was ticking and how fast he found himself walking.
There was a little bit of hope. It was reserved for special occasions and those had been a rarity in Seungcheol’s life for longer than he liked to admit. But it was still there, buried deep inside, behind his walls and his pride. And it was threatening to burst out into the open, because as much as Seuncheol was scared of falling in love again, this time with a complete stranger, terrified him. The thought of not knowing if his life was really at stake was far scarier. He was gambling with his life line and that was a risk he found himself not willing to take. Though he would never admit to himself and especially not to Jeonghan or Joshua.
He was in complete denial at least for a slight second. Yet, he had started to walk with fever and hastily. He was desperate, he didn’t know where to start or how to start or if he should even start. He just walked, until his body was running on autopilot. He didn’t know where he was going or where  he was going to end up, but the only thing on his mind was that the timer was blaring inside of his eardrums at an alarming rate, and the hope he kept at bay spilling out of his pores.
He needed to find his soulmate before it was too late.
Seungcheol didn’t want to die, he still had a dream to achieve. He will do it, he had promised himself that much. And he wasn’t going to let anyone take it away from again.
Tumblr media
Hour 6 - 22:00
Seungcheol was panting, bending over, with his sweaty palms against his jean clad legs as tried his best to put the air back in his lungs.
He wasn’t sure how long he had been walking, all he could remember was bumping into a few people along the way and mumbling sorry’s underneath his breath when they had sent him glares his way. But he had ended up at the park across the street from his studio apartment, the one he rarely lived in because more often than not. The old raggedy couch at the car shop had been his home for as long as he had worked there. He had bought it last year after saving up enough money, in hopes of it becoming his new beginning, his safe space, where he could jump right back into working on his one goal in life.
Though, the first night he had spent there, he had hated it. Occasionally he would give it a second chance. He had given it many second chances, but the outcome was always the same. He would stay awake until four in the morning, get frustrated and then end up running laps at the park until sunrise.
This park had been his sanctuary, the one his apartment couldn’t provide, so it was no surprise his body had carried him here. He felt at home here, the hollowing of the wind chiming and wrapping around him like a blanket of safety. Here, in this park, Seungcheol felt comfortable enough to let his mind race through the thoughts he would keep hidden behind a wall.
He straightened himself out, running his fingers through his wet sweaty hair and made his way to the park bench by the basketball court, where he would occasionally lay down in the middle and look at the sky, counting the lack of stars in the sky. He knew they were there, but because of the city's light pollution they were invisible to his eye. Those were the only stars he trusted, not the ones that used the Universe’s gifts for their own selfish desires and to control everyone.
The stars in the night sky, the one’s he used his imagination and intuition to connect with, trusted him. They were the only one’s in his life that believed in him, even when he couldn’t believe in himself, and it made him feel at ease knowing that at least someone out there was rooting for him to win this losing battle.
Seungcheol took a deep sigh and placed his palm over the watch on the inside of his wrist. He had only two hours left, and he would rather not witness the time ticking down. He could hear it, it was drumming loudly against his eardrums, loud enough to the point in which he couldn’t hear the wind and the tree’s surrounding him singing their natural melody. The last thing he needed was to see the visual representation of his last breath nearing him.
He wanted to fight, but he was tired. If tonight was his last night living a life he had been so cruel to. He would at least take his last breath at the place he felt most at home.
So, he sat back and closed his eyes tightly. He felt the wind against his cooling skin, the familiar shivers running up his spine. For the first time since he woke up that morning he felt at peace.
Tumblr media
Hour 7 - 23:00
The ringing of his phone startled him. He had only had his eyes closed for about five minutes. Only five minutes of peace before it was interrupted by the ringing of his phone. He let out a frustrated sigh and fished out his phone from the pocket of his oil stained light washed jeans. His gaze and heart softened when he realized his mother was the one calling him. Without hesitation he unlocked his phone and placed his phone to his ear.
Silence. He was met with silence, until a choked sob broke it, his heart shattering in the process. “M-Mom, what’s wrong?” Seungcheol sat up. His eyes grew wide. The anxiety running through his body making his leg bounce.
“Joshua called me. He was freaking out saying that you were making a mistake. What is talking about? You’re not thinking about leaving again?” His mom spoke. Seungcheol could visualize the almost heart attack Joshua had given his mother when he called. He could visualize the color draining from her face as her hands shook while she dialed his number. Seungcheol’s mother was an over thinker and she always thought about the worst possible scenarios. Especially when it came to Seungcheol and his brother. Joshua knew what he was doing when he had called his mother. He knew that his mother was his weakness. Despite the differences they argued about over the years, Seungcheol loved his mother and knowing she was in such distress because of him, scared him more than what he already was.
“Nothing mom, he’s over exaggerating. Jeonghan, him and I had a small argument earlier but it’s nothing mom. I’m okay.” He spoke into the receiver lying through his teeth. He wasn’t fine, although he was in his sanctuary and at peace. His timer finally reached the fifty-nine minute mark and his heart was racing to the point he was scared it would literally squeeze through the spaces between his ribs and rip through the safety of his skin, onto the concrete pavement beneath his feet.
“Are you sure? He sounded really scared and worried, what did you guys fight about?” The words came rushing out of her mouth at lighting speed. He knew that question was coming and although he tried scouring through the files in his mind to come up with a concrete answer that would make his mother worry less. He couldn’t. There was no answer he could give her. If she lied she would know, but if he told the truth, his mother would certainly never be able to recover.
He knew he could prevent her heartbreak. All he had to do was get up and start walking again, let his feet carry him as his intuition and the Universe led him to where he needed to be, but he stayed seated. His hand closing into a fist taking the roughness of his jeans between them, the frustration, fear and anxiety coursing through his veins faster than before. Maybe if he wasn’t such a coward, maybe if he didn’t let his own selfishness consume him to the point it clouded his judgment, he could’ve let himself do what he needed to do. What he wanted to do.
“It’s not a big deal, Jeonghan asked him to be his best man and I got a little upset. Tomorrow we’ll be fine and laugh about it.” He said letting out the breath he had been holding in. He knew he sounded like he had just ran a few miles rather than sitting down in complete silence and stillness.
“I know you’re lying but I have been able to get the truth out of you, so I’ll drop it. At least I know you’re okay and you’re still here.” Seungcheol’s mother stopped speaking for a second, he could hear his father whispering something to her and his mother answering in agreement. “Visit us tomorrow, your brother is coming over tomorrow for dinner. Your dad wants to see you.” She half whispered the last part and it brought a slight smile to his face. For years Seungcheol and his father had not been on good terms, whenever they saw each other, his future always became the topic of conversation. His father always shared his disapproval and disappointment on how Seungcheol’s life had turned out. His father expected too much from both him and his brother, he had dreams in which he had tried to instill in them. It wasn’t enough that one of his sons had achieved his dream, his pride was attached to the two of them. And knowing that Seungcheol always refused, always followed the beat of his own drum, wounded his pride.
His mother and brother always tried their best to bridge the gap between them that had only grown deeper over the years.
Seungcheol admired their commitment, but just being in his father’s presence fully aware of how he felt towards him was only a simple reminder of what he did not want to become, and it only made him resent him even more.
“I don’t know mom, I work until late tomorrow and I wouldn’t have enough time to go home shower and change. Maybe some other time.” Seungcheol whispered. The wind blew causing a single leaf to escape its perspective branch. Seungcheol watched it closely as it flew down, landing on his lap. He picked it up in between his forefinger and thumb, twirling the steam as he listened to his mother sigh out.
“Just come after work...it’s important.”
Seungcheol wanted to say yes. The simple three letter word was one of the hardest ones to say. With the urgency in his mother’s voice, he knew that she wasn’t lying and that whatever his father had to tell him. It was important. But Seungcheol didn’t want to make a promise he could not keep. For he didn’t know if his tomorrow would ever come. If the last thirty minutes (indicated by the timer on his wrist) would be the last thirty minutes of his life.
He wondered if it was possible for time to run faster than before, and the quick ticking sound in his head proved that he was right. It was now drowning out the sound of his mother’s low and desperate pleas.
“M-Mom I’ll see what I can do, maybe if Jeonghan is in a good mood I can convince him to let me off early, I’ll try to be there by dinner time.” The almost empty promise escaped his throat, running past his teeth and perfect lips faster than he could stop himself.
“Perfect. We’ll see you tomorrow.” His mother cheered. He could hear and sense her happiness through the receiver of his phone and it shattered his heart. When tomorrow came and what Jeonghan and Joshua both claimed to be true would happen. What would be his mother’s reaction?
“I’ll try mom, you know I’m not good at keeping promises.” He half joked, the tears had started to pool in the corner of his eyes. He looked up at the night sky, making eye contact with the moon. They had once been intimate, but over the last few months they had been disconnected, the stars surrounding her protecting her from his own selfish needs and acts. He missed her, he wished he could feel her light upon his skin, caressing him and holding him in ways he wanted to be held. Ways in which he needed to be held. Though, he could feel her reluctance as he took in her beauty. She was there with him, keeping him company as the last twenty minutes of his life counted down.
“You always find a way to keep them Seungcheol. I’ll see you tomorrow night. I love you.”
“I love you too mom.” He whispered before the line went dead. Seungcheol sighed, bringing down his phone from his ear. He stared at his mother’s contact name, trying to decide if he should call her back again. Tell her that he wasn’t fine that he was scared and that he wanted to be in her arms, singing the song she always sang to him whenever his imagination betrayed him, plaguing his dreams with nightmares. But he didn’t again, his own pride and reluctance, the one he gets from his father and the reason why they clash so much kept him calling her back.
Instead he looked at his timer one last time, noted that there were ten minutes left and placed his phone down next to him on the bench. He took in his surroundings one last time before leaning his back and closing his tired soft eyes.
Tumblr media
Hour 8: 24:00
“Excuse me?”
Seungcheol opened his eyes upon hearing the sound of the soft voice behind him and the light tap on his shoulder. He sat up quickly looking around frantically. He only had five minutes left and his peace had been disturbed. He turned around his gaze falling upon someone he had only seen in his dreams.
“You dropped your phone.” You said shakingly, handing him his phone. He assumed that it had fallen through the cracks of the bench; he had been so deep in his thoughts he didn’t hear the thud of it hitting the ground.
“Oh um, thank you.” He spoke quickly, taking his phone. His fingers accidentally brushed over the soft skin of your wrist, the familiar digital clock appearing before him and the ticking sound became loud enough to the point he couldn’t hear the nagging voice that had stayed with him for the last twenty five years of his life. Quickly he glanced down to his wrist and then at yours, he could feel the fear radiating out of your pores as the seconds counted down faster than the speed of light.
Seungcheol almost laughed. In fact he felt the laugh suppressing itself in the back of his throat. But as the timer finally reached the infamous zero’s, his last breath didn’t come, and neither did yours. He watched as you looked around frantically before your eyes found his. You let out the sob you had been suppressing for the entirety of the day. Your knees gave up on you and you leaned down hugging your calves, burying your face into your thighs, the sobs came quickly and Seungcheol sat there not knowing what to do.
It was like his body was acting on his and he stood up, rounding the corner of the bench and crouched down. His shaking arms wrapped around you tightly, running a soothing hand down your back, smoothing out the wrinkles of your navy blue sweatshirt.
The next words we muttered, were words he never thought he would say again. But again it felt like he wasn’t in control of his body. It felt like after the timer hit the long awaited double zero’s his body belonged to someone else, almost as if he had been reborn again after twenty five years.
“It’s okay, I am here.”

here is a boba reveal
so i saw @buggachat‘s adrienette boba art n the stupidest reveal idea popped up in my head (i work at a boba shop so now my head is spinning bc i love this au (is it an au?))
so adrien pegs me as the sort of person who wouldn’t drink smtg like boba on his own bc it has so many calories (a large size with reg sugar + pearls can be from 500-700 cals, gabriel would have an aneurysm)
adrien probably doesn’t really know of it either? but marinette is 100% the sort of person who loves boba and would probably drink at least one per week. she has a favorite shop near the school; she’s tried all the flavors
when adrien mentions he doesn’t know what boba is she decides to drag him there
he looks at all the flavours. ponders for a while. then chooses the most horrifying one: durian
(im sorry if u like durian but i’ve poured durian smoothies and get hit with the smell which i detest fhjdlfHD its terrifying)
marinette hates durian, like she should. she tries to convince him otherwise. tries to recommend her favourites. but he’s dead set on durian. so finally, he gets durian.
and adrien, God help him, loves the flavour
marinette, of course, smiles along even though she’s lowkey judging him. but if it makes him happy, then... oh well?
ladynoir also go on coffee runs, and when ladybug doesn’t get her weekly fix of boba, she suggests they grab that instead. chat noir is more than happy to oblige  (n also get his newest favourite drink)
ladybug orders something classic, chat noir barely hesitates before going for a durian boba
ladybug demands if he knows what he’s ordering ( “wait, have you tried boba...?”) and he says yes
“so why durian?”
“one of my good friends introduced it to me earlier this month, and this is the flavour i tried n i really liked it”
ladybug’s too smart NOT to put two and two together. she tries to give chat the benefit of the doubt; she really does. maybe someone else went to her favourite boba shop with chat’s civilian self this month, introduced boba to him and he had chosen durian. it didn’t mean anything. not at all. definitely doesn’t have to do with the very uncanny timing and choices adrien had made.
(she screams into her pillow when she gets home)
when marinette asks adrien the next day if he’s gotten boba again recently, he says he went with a friend yesterday as if it’s the simplest thing in the world. then, oblivious to the fact that marinette’s gone sheet white, returns to talking to nino
chaos ensues
the rest ,,,,,, may be written,,,,, if when i write this bc i think i acc might,, uhhh,,, self control who is she
this is literally the stupidest thing my brain has conjured the whole week, but after a solid 4 hours of pouring drinks today my brain has officially turned into tapioca and boba is all i can think about

_________
Toshinori texts you religiously after that weekend. A sprinkling of messages throughout the day that make butterflies swarm in your stomach. They start off in the morning when you’re already working at Sweet Bean.
It’s always something simple like Have a good day! :-) or Good Morning! But nonetheless, his messages always stirred up warm feelings.
It always makes you smile, which Aiko takes full advantage of. The teasing you got when you saw her was merciless. The number of jokes centered around “you’re absolutely glowing” astounded you. If she wasn’t such a valuable employee or a good friend, you would’ve thought about sending her home.
Yamada outright teases you, much to your horror. He’s relentless, maybe even worse than Aiko. But it’s Aizawa’s knowing grins that make your stomach flip. But when Toshinori messages you, the growing waves of affection confirm that you would put up with all the teasing and giggling in the world for a chance to have something real with him.
The days slip into something warmer and longer, the air becoming sticky and thick with rising heat. You can’t help but breathe a little easier in the summer. It’s especially nice whenever students come in while they’re on break. They bring a sense of life and youthfulness that warms your heart.
The group of girls Sato brought are back again, lounging around a table. They have stopped by a few times since then, and it’s been nice, watching them study, gossip, and celebrate the end of the term. This time, they’re joined by two other girls, and you can’t help but smile.
“Boss, stop being weird,” Aiko whines from next to you. You roll your eyes, tearing your gaze away from the group of girls to your bubbly employee.
“Don’t you have a summer class you need to be getting to?” you ask bluntly. Aiko’s mouth twists as she’s about to volley back another teasing remark before she freezes. Her eyes widen as she processes what you said.
“Oh shit!”
Your customers offer the two of you a small glance as Aiko rips off her apron, throwing it into the back. Without another word, she sprints out the front door. As she exits, she sails past Toshinori, who looks mildly alarmed.
You grin as Toshinori shyly waves at you from the entrance. There’s someone with him that piques your interest: a boy with green curls and freckles scattered across his face. When they walk past the group of girls, the young boy waves excitedly, stopping to talk.
Toshinori’s been stopping by more and more, much to your pleasure. There were some days where he forgets to order something, too enthralled in chatting with you and watching you work. But you’ve never seen the kid that’s with him.
When Toshinori steps up to the counter, your phone buzzes. Your head tilts as you read it, and you pinch the bridge of your nose.
Please clock me out!
“Suga, can you clock Aiko out?” you call to the back. You hear him mutter, and you smile when he tells you she needs to be fired or demoted.
“He doesn’t mean that,” you tell Toshinori, who looks a little concerned. “Also I want you to try something!” You beam up at him, watching as his eyes widen before a soft, tired smile crawls across his face.
“I trust you. I’m good with whatever you want to make,” he mumbles, not quite meeting your eyes. You hum excitedly, turning around to make his drink.
He watches you fondly as you flutter behind the counter. He meant it, that he trusts you. He just can’t tell you everything. Not yet, at least. It’ll all come crumbling down if he says anything now. The smile on his face slips into a frown, the peaceful feeling evaporating from him. Toshinori’s so lost in thought, he doesn’t even notice when you’ve turned back around and placed the cup down in front of him.
Furrowing your brows, you wave your hand in his field of view, grounding him in the moment.
“Where’d you go?” you ask gently. He shakes his head, eyes downcast.
He’s about to answer when the boy that he came in with bounds up to the counter. Toshinori smiles and glances down, placing a hand on his shoulder.
“This is Midoriya. He’s one of my students.” Midoriya beams at you, and something clicks. You’re almost positive you had heard about him before. You don’t know whether he came up from Yamada or Sato, or the group of girls, but you’re positive Midoriya has been brought up before.
“It’s nice to meet you, Midoriya. I’m Y/N.” He waves at you, and your eyes pass over the faded lines that cover his hands and arms. Your heart drops into your stomach as you force your gaze to meet his, trying to maintain the cheery attitude.
“Got any plans for summer break?” you ask, hoping he didn’t notice your concern for his scarred body. He blinks up at you, his smile never leaving his face. If he did notice, he’s doing a decent job at not caring.
“Just training camp! It’s what we were all talking about.” Your head cock’s to the side, and you glance at Toshinori, silently asking for an explanation. He chuckles at your confusion before elaborating.
“There’s a training camp for the Hero courses coming up, so both Class 1-A and 1-B will attend.” You make a noise of understanding before nodding your head. Your gaze flickers to the group of students that are giggling about something. Your heart warms at the thought of them getting a nice break to train somewhere fun.
“Well, Midoriya, I just made Toshi a drink that all your friends are drinking. Would you like one too?” Toshinori’s face flushes red at the use of a nickname in front of his student, and you wink at him. You stifle a laugh as his blush darkens. Midoriya looks at the counter, mildly uncomfortable at how you tease his mentor, but he nods at the offer. You immediately get to work, when his quiet voice pipes up again.
“How much is it?” he murmurs. You shake your head, working quickly.
“Don’t even worry about it. My treat!” When you turn around with Midoriya’s drink, he looks very excited, like he’s about to vibrate out of his skin. Maybe giving him caffeine is a bad idea.
“Oi!” A voice draws your attention to the back, and you roll your eyes at Suga sticking his head out of the kitchen. “Giving out free things all the time is not a sustainable business practice.” Your nose scrunches up, and you stick your tongue out at him. He rolls his eyes before disappearing to bake. You purse your lips and set the drink down next to Toshinori’s.
“Ignore him. Anyways, it’s a coffee milk tea with boba!” you say excitedly. “Suga felt like making boba, and I figured why not add some black milk tea and a little coffee!” Toshinori smiles down at you, affection running off of him in waves. You watch as Midoriya and Toshinori both take a tip. Midoriya’s eyes widen as he chews one of the tapioca pearls.
“I know! The texture’s perfect,” you hum happily. “Suga kind of makes whatever he wants, and I’m alright with that. We’ve been talking about expanding so he can do some more actual cooking besides the ‘fucking sandwiches’, but it’s pretty expensive.”
You tap your chin in thought as you ramble to Midoriya, and Toshinori’s face pulls into a sharp grin. He’s going to tell you soon. He swears he will.
_________
You fall back against your bed, exhausted after a long day at work. The temptation to just shut your eyes crashes over you. Your phone buzzes much to your annoyance, but any frustration you harbor disappears when you see the message is from Toshinori. You smile stupidly at your phone, curling up on your side as you read the message he sent over and over again.
Can I call you?
You bite the inside of your cheek, glancing out the window. The moon’s drifting across the sky, city lights washing away the stars. It feels warm, and something syrupy makes its home in your chest.
Of course! <3
You narrow your eyes, thumb hovering over the send button. You delete the heart and hit send. A stillness hangs over you, as you wait. When your phone lights up with his incoming call, you sit up, bringing your knees to your chest. Tentatively, you accept the call.
“Hi,” you murmur, trying not to feel shy. He’s fucked you before; a phone call should be nothing. You flush, shaking your head at the thought.
“Is there something you wanted to talk about?” you offer hesitantly.
“Not particularly, just wanted to hear your voice.” A smile unfurls on your face, and you let yourself fall back onto your bed, your legs spreading out in front of you.
“Oh I see, you go a few days without stopping by Sweet Bean, and you just go crazy without me.” He stutters at your words, not able to form a reasonable answer. You laugh at his panic, but change the topic, offering him a way out.
“How’s work going?” He sighs in relief at the question.
“I worked on some lesson plans, and the students will be leaving for camp in a few days.” Your eyes slightly widen as you remember the way Midoryiya said everyone was excited.
“Right, camp! That’ll be fun for them!”
“They’re there to train. But the Pussycats will treat them well.” You bolt upright at his casual tone.
“The Pussycats? As in The Wild, Wild Pussycats? The hero squad?” you ask, desperate for confirmation. He laughs but reassures you that it’s true. Your rest your head in your palm as the realization that Toshinori probably knows some really famous heroes settles in. Your thoughts drift back to the green-haired boy you met and the scars that litter his skin.
“And Midoriya will be going too, right?” you ask. He makes a noise of affirmation, but something lingers: an unspoken worry, a hint of doubt.
“Are you worried for him?” you question lightly, trying to get a better grasp at what’s eating away at him. Toshinori sighs into the receiver, the silence hanging heavily between you too. You hold your breath, waiting for whatever he’s debating over to spill out and into the phone.
“I want him to push himself and grow stronger, but not to the point where he breaks his bones. But Aizawa will be there, and I trust him.” You hum into the phone, brows furrowing with concern. He feels farther away than normal, the phone distorting his voice, but not doing much to hide the fact that he’s avoiding something. A seed of doubt lodges itself in the hollow of your chest, but you drop the subject. Whatever Toshinori’s hiding isn’t coming out anytime soon.
You frown thinking of the first time he slipped up. It was subtle, so tiny that you could’ve easily missed it. Just a few inconsistencies about where he had been. They were small enough that you didn’t say anything, and there’s a chance that you were overthinking it. But at the same time, it sat uncomfortably in your chest, where it rests now, weighing you down. You lie back, letting yourself flop against the bed.
“Besides working on lesson plans, what else are you doing over the next few weeks?”
“Not a lot,” he answers quickly, relieved at the change of topic. “I have some meetings, but that’s it really.” You nod to yourself, a sly grin spreading on your face.
“So, would you be interested in, I don’t know, having another date?” You hear him sputter into the receiver, and you practically see flames of red spreading from the tips of his ears to paint his cheeks. “And it’s not that I don’t like you coming to Sweet Bean, but it’d be nice to see you other places too,” you murmur. His breath catches and you bite your lip, trying to stifle a giggle at his reaction.
“I’d like that very much.” Toshinori’s voice is soft, sending butterflies gently floating through your stomach. You sit up again, nervously tapping your fingers against your thigh.
“Good. I was worried you were beginning to lose interest,” you tease. He lets out a laugh at the notion.
“Sweet girl,” he groans, making you flush, memories of the last time he called you that overwhelm your brain. “I’ll take you anywhere you want.”
“There’s a small festival that’s going on, actually. It’s some sort of dance competition I think. Would you wanna go tomorrow and check it out?”
“It’s a date.” A large smile forms on your face, and you make a satisfied noise.
“I’ll see you tomorrow,” you whisper.
“Goodnight, sweet girl.”
Laying your phone down in your lap, you look out the window and your brows crease, the twinge of concern solidifying its roots. The city lights look a lot colder now.
_________
The festival is wonderful, full of games, a variety of colors, and inviting scents. You had been right, and it was some sort of dance festival, much to your delight. Troupes of dancers in beautiful, flowing, clothing performed in the street all day.
You let out a little hum as you bring a spoonful of kakigori to your mouth. The sun hangs low in the sky, painting the scattering of clouds gold, and shining beautifully in Toshinori’s hair. You glance up at Toshi, before pulling the spoon out of your mouth and offering it to him. He grins sharply, accepting the spoon and taking a bite of the shaved ice.
“I swear, those people have the best topping options,” you exclaim. He scoffs at you, shaking his head as he returns the spoon.
“I’m pretty sure they’re the same as they are everywhere.” You narrow your eyes at him and pout. Toshi’s eyes widen before he lets out a laugh that resounds in the air around you, enveloping you in something warm and soft.
“I mean, you are right. Their menu is special,” he corrects himself, shoving a hand into his pocket. You laugh at him, before carefully holding the kakigori with one hand, and sliding your other arm around the one he just placed in his pocket. You rest your head on his arm, and when you glance up, a deep red blooms at the tips of his ears. You grin before looking towards the crowds on the street.
“I kind of wanna see another performance. What about you?” you ask. A noise of agreement rumbles through his chest, and the two of you walk towards the mass of people. You never let Toshinori go, holding him close until you reach the crowd. Making sure to keep an eye on your kakigori, you take his hand, trying to guide the two of you forward, but the crowd is surprisingly dense. You stand on your tiptoes, trying to see the current group of dancers that were performing, jealous of Toshinori’s height.
His phone buzzes in his pocket, and he gently pulls his hand away from yours. His eyes flicker over to you, and then back to his phone. You take another bite of your kakigori as you wait for him to tell you what’s wrong. Toshinori shifts uncomfortably on his feet, reluctantly looking back at you. Your stomach drops at the way his pointed face is twisted.
“There was an emergency at the school. I have to go.” Your brows shoot upwards. You had not been expecting a school emergency. Especially when they’re on break. But then again, it’s one of the most prestigious schools in the country, and some of the classes are about to go to a training camp.
You set your spoon down in the ice, and you nod, forcing a smile onto your face.
“I understand. Don’t worry about it.” His shoulders sag in relief, but you smirk and bat your eyelashes at him. “But I was looking forward to taking you home again.” Something full of pain and longing slips into his eyes, and his mouth fixes itself into a sad smile.
“Let’s have dinner tomorrow night. If you’re free.” Toshinori sounds sad as he says it, and you reach up to gently grab the side of his arm.
“Sounds good. I’ll see you then.” Your words give him permission to leave, and yet he hesitates. You squeeze his arm in reassurance. “It’s okay, Toshi.” He nods down at you, before stalking off into the crowd. You let out a sigh and turn back towards the dancers, taking another bite of the sweet kakigori.
_________
Toshinori is late. A twinge of annoyance flickers in your chest. He had already called you, apologizing to you about not being able to pick you up because something had kept him at work, and he was just now heading out. That was thirty minutes ago.
Starting to get flustered by the sad glances the waitress keeps sending your way, you pull out your phone pulling up Toshinori’s contact again. Before you hit the call button, Toshinori is sliding into the seat across from you. You blink blankly at him, before slowly setting your phone down on the table.
Something hot and sharp grows in your chest. He looks worn out, as if he’s being spread too thin, tugged in too many directions. He’s always looked tired, and you partially think whatever caused his scar is to blame, but this, this is different. A small frown forms on his face, and you reach out, resting your hand on his.
“Is everything okay?” you ask quietly. His eyes flicker between your hands and your concerned face. Toshinori’s face softens before he shifts his hand to squeeze yours lightly.
“I’m just glad to be here now.” You flush under his gaze and tighten your hand in his.
“I’m glad you’re here now, too,” you murmur. His large, calloused thumb strokes the back of your hand. You lean forward, wanting to bask in this moment. Toshinori mimics you, a smile tugging at his mouth. Your eyes trail up and down his face, and the tips of his ears turn red. Eventually, the waitress comes by again, and she looks relieved that someone’s finally joined you. She takes your order happily and manages to make only one comment about how long you’ve been waiting, much to your horror.
“Anyways, how was your day?” he chokes out once the waitress scurries off. Giving his hand one last squeeze, you pull it away, drawing back into yourself.
“It was fine. Same as every day. I’m sure your’s was more interesting.” Leaning against the table rest your head in your hand, looking at him expectantly. His eyes widen, and he opens his mouth, but before he can get a word out, he’s interrupted.
His phone buzzes on vibrate, and you bite the inside of your cheek. Toshinori exhales shakily, and he rubs the back of his head sheepishly. His face is downcast, shoulders slipped, and he meets your eyes reluctantly.
“Y/N, I am so sorry,” he starts, but you just shake your head cutting him off.
“It’s okay. We can reschedule,” you try to say brightly, ignoring the cold feeling seeping into your bones. He nods at you sadly and rises from the table. His mouth quirks up sadly, and he ducks down, pressing a kiss to your forehead. When he pulls away, Toshinori leans his forehead against yours and brings his hand up to caress the side of your face.
“Tomorrow,” he reassures. You nod against him, and he’s gone, tearing out of the restaurant in a flash. You twirl your straw in your drink and purse your lips, brain twisting along with the liquid. A frigid thought pierces through your muddled mind: maybe he wasn’t interested in you and didn’t know how to let you down? When the waitress drops off the check, she smiles sadly at you; you wish you were a thousand miles away.
_________
He doesn’t even make it the next night. You’re left by yourself for about an hour, trying to ignore the pitying looks from the waiter. You had been excited earlier, watching as the sun sinks lower and lower, until the sweet orange shifts into soft pinks and deep blues. But it’s dark outside now, and you feel nauseous.
Your phone rings, jolting you from your thoughts. Your mouth twists into a small frown when you see it’s Toshinori. You let it ring, tilting your head to the side as you look at his contact picture. It’s a selfie of both of you holding to-go cups from Sweet Bean. He had to duck down to fit into the frame, a pretty blush covering his face as he looks at you with more tenderness than you’re used to. You had taken it when he walked you home from the police station with the intention of sending it to Aiko. Taking a deep breath, you answer the call.
“Hi.” You wince at how pathetic your voice sounds.
“Y/N, I am so sorry,” Toshinori practically yells. His frantic tone jolts you out of your self wallowing pity.
“Toshinori, what’s wrong?” Your stomach flips as your mind races through all the worse case scenarios.
“There was a villain attack at the camp, and -” he breathes in sharply, trying to calm himself down. “I won’t be able to make it tonight.”
“Oh my god, do not worry about it. Do what you need to. I’ll talk to you later,” you reassure him, guilt pooling in your stomach. He quickly sputters out a goodbye, and the line goes dead. You walk home by yourself, and the entire time you think of those girls laughing inside Sweet Bean just a few days ago. When you finally go to sleep, your cheeks are wet and your eyes are sore.
It’s only the next day that you find out one of the students has been kidnapped. Bakugou Katsuki. You don’t know him, but you recognize him from the Sports Festival.
You close Sweet Bean for the day.
_________
Aiko is over the next night, watching you from the couch while you tend to the tea plants on your tiny balcony. She’s brought over takeout that’s been forgotten in your kitchen. You’re much too focused on trying to stay busy.
You hold the plants tenderly, trying to turn on the faucet of warmth inside you.
It’s foolish to be this worried about someone you don’t even know, but you can’t help it. You’ve met his classmates (and you are constantly worrying about them now), you know some of his teachers, and it’s horrible that he’s been kidnapped. It twists your stomach, and you bite back the bile that’s threatening to rise.
Your hands stay cold.
“Y/N, you should see this!” Aiko calls from the living room. Standing up, you wipe your hands on your pants and join her. On the screen is Aizawa, another teacher, and the principal of U.A. Your nerves pool in your stomach at seeing how much worse the bags under Aizawa’s eyes have gotten; you can’t help but think of Toshinori.
You space out, chewing on your lip nervously as the conference comes to an end. You hadn’t heard from him all day, and considering what was going on, that’s to be expected. But you just want to know if he’s okay. The panicked tone that was in his voice plays on a loop in your mind.
Aiko’s gasp jolts you back to reality, and your eyes zero in on the screen. There's a fight being televised. You squint, trying to make out the hero as the camera zooms and refocuses. It’s All Might, you realize. A shallow sense of relief overwhelms you. He’ll take care of this. But to your horror, the villain’s power is on par with his. You reach out, gripping Aiko’s arm, your jaw clenching.
Your brain slinks back to the day he had chastised you for running recklessly into a situation. It’s best to leave situations like this up to the professionals. That’s what he had said to you that day. And then he had stuck his neck out for you for no reason. He can’t lose. He can’t lose. He can’t lose, fuck.
You watch, mouth tightened into a firm line, as he takes a beating. After another forceful blow, Aiko stills next to you, the atmosphere between you two crystallizing into something cold and sticky as your jaw slackens.
On the screen, in All Might’s now baggy outfit, covered in blood is Yagi Toshinori.
