Ok how would the overwatch cast react to y/n saying on a mission moments before it downpours “ hmmm.” ( insert sniffing noise ) “ it smells like it’s gonna rain. We could probably go inside or seek some type of shelter.” And then forgetting that they grew up in the Midwest, as I am convinced that the people who can smell rain are mutants.

Rainy weather

First of all, apologies for answering this so late. I admit I wasn’t sure about these headcanons at first, but after looking at characters I write for – I thought that I can make something fun out of this. And a little fun fact – I think I might be one of those people who can smell rain lol. Anyway enjoy! <3

Genji Shimada

☁ Genji can't really smell rain since almost all the time he has his mask on

☁ Once you say it's going to rain, Genji looks at you surprised

☁ Once you tell him that you can smell in the air, he chuckles

☁ Then once it actually starts to rain, Genji chuckles again and apologizes

☁ Right after that, jokingly asks what other superpowers you might have

Hanzo Shimada

☁ Hanzo can't really smell rain, so he often got soaked in his life

☁ When you say it's going to rain and how confidently you say it, he looks confused and ask how you can tell

☁ He doesn't believe you at first, but after going to a shelter and sees that it starts to rain, he apologizes that he didn't believe you

☁ You play it off jokingly, because you can tell he's really serious about the apology and explain that everything is fine

Cole Cassidy

☁ I believe Cole is also the person who can smell that the rain is coming, he may even starts smelling the air before you do

☁ But as soon as he hears you sniff the air too, he looks up at you surprised

☁ He does not argue when you say it's time to look for shelter

☁ Once everyone is safe in the shelter, Cole will ask about it and admit you surprised him, because he did not expect for you to be also able to smell rain

Ramattra

☁ Ramattra obviously can't smell rain, but his sensors can inform him that there's a change in the air

☁ He will be surprised when he sees you sniff and says it's going to rain

☁ He knows how to kill and hurt humans, but he does not know much beyond that

☁ After finding a shelter, he asks how does human smell that and how common is it for humans be able to smell things like that

Niran Pruksamanee

☁ Niran is a plant mom, so he's almost always aware of the weather

☁ He may not be to smell the rain, but will most likely be aware before mission that it might rain

☁ Niran is confused by your conclusion, just by a few a small quick sniffs

☁ He asks if you're sure and when your answer is positive, he does does not plan on arguing and looks for shelter with you

Cole Cassidy and Mei hc , bc I love their friendship so much.

I’m not sure where this idea came from, but during his black watch days, Mei started to complain about how bad mowed lawns and those topiary bushes where for the environment, which spurred a conversation about Texan fluora and fauna, which turned into a whole discussion on non-native grasses and plants and how they where taking away resources from native plants and animals.

Sometimes, after their reunion, you can still hear them talking about various plants from their home.

They’re also where the ones who proposed a garden on base.

( I do know what sparked this actually, I live in the Texas suburbs and these Bermuda grass lawns fucking SUCK. They provide no food and no shelter to bugs and small animals and are shit for biodiversity. Also, they aren’t super adapted to the weather here. We’re in a drought rn and this shits r GUZZLING water.)

I honestly have a head cannon that Cassidy knows a lot about nature and flora and fauna, he's a nature type character so it makes sense. I also like the idea of Cassidy being very knowledgeable of random topics, one of those topics being the environment. So I could defiantly see him and Mei having a full on rant about the topics of Texan flora/fauna and non-native grasses and plants and how they impact the native environment and Eco-system.

In all honesty I like to think that scientific environment talk is the only academic language Cass can actually understand, ask him about the periodic table and he has no clue but talk to him about anything about the environment using scientific terminology and he understands perfectly.

But I also am going to add to this.

After Niran joins OW he hears them talking about this and he just joins in the conversation. To the point when they're all eating meals together those three are just talking non-stop.

The idea of Cassidy and Mei asking to make a garden on base is so cute!

Because they would and it would probably be very therapeutic for both of them!

Also in the QuestWatch event one of the things Mei could be doing as an explanation as to why she's late is recycling bottle's Cassidy was shooting;

Which is phrased like something Cassidy just does instead of something Mei insisted he do. Also the little implication that Mei just hangs out with Cassidy while he's shooting means so much to me, it also furthers my head cannon that Cassidy would teach Mei how to shoot or at least help her improve her aim.

These two's dynamic is so cute to cause even their voice lines are adorable;

They're sibling coded and I will die on this hill. I hope the next lot of Story Missions gives us the ability to play them together, I want to see how they interact!

Also Cassidy's habit of befriending scientists will never not be funny to me-

Shower Thoughts Time!

I think it’s obvious how much I can’t wait for the comfort, humor, and angst that the Story Missions will hopefully provide between our favorite heroes, but I’m also excited by the thought of not everyone getting along or seeing eye-to-eye. Does that make sense?

Specifically, I was thinking about the interaction between D.Va and Torbjörn where Hana says “I heard your inventions take five minutes to boot up!” It is OBVIOUS who she heard that from. Torbjörn’s incessant bashing of the rookie in Uprising continues to haunt him, just when he thought endlessly hearing “The cavalry’s here!” after he said it once was the end of it. Of course, Angela was also ruthless towards him in Uprising. I just think everyone harrassing him is funny. I don’t think Torbjörn dislikes Lena in the seven or eight years that have passed, but I hope to see more of their back-and-forth bickering.

There’s also the many lines towards Cole when reviving him in PvE, like:

Pharah: “Cassidy went down again! Somebody save him!... Again!”

Zarya: “Cole, you are being a baby.”

Tracer: “YoU’Re WeLcOmE, PaRtNeR! (giggles)”

But those are all playful. On the other hand, I thought about the contrast between Zarya’s “Revive Dr. Zhou! Quick!” line and “The British one needs to be revived” line, and I found it to be strange. The latter doesn’t sound inherently nasty, but it’s just weird of Aleksandra to not even use Lena’s call sign. I believe the only other generalizations we see like this are when people call Cassidy “cowboy”, probably because the lines were written before the development team settled on a new name, and people calling the various scientists by some form of “doctor”. Maybe I’m reading into it too much, because Aleksandra can be friendly with Lena (See: “You sure know how to bring people together!” / “And you know how to blow them up!”)

I just think it would be interesting to see a clash in ideologies across the newer generation of Overwatch, because no one ever gets along with everyone in real life. What if Aleksandra didn’t agree with how Lena views omnics, for example? I would imagine that she is struggling after meeting Lynx Seventeen. She wasn’t even sure why she felt compelled to rescue them, and she said she would have killed them herself days prior. Even then, she hasn’t grown close enough with an omnic only to lose them much like Lena has with Mondatta and Lady, so she might not get it, you know?

Then, there are characters like Hanzo, who has “This is no place for a scientist” for a revive line. We can presume that Hanzo will join Overwatch after both the Dragons cinematic and whatever happens in his short story in the Heroes Ascendant collection, and I would imagine that he would find fighting alongside a super-intelligent talking gorilla from the moon to be preposterous, for example.

Or is the line, perhaps, directed towards Mei? Proto VI’s video of PVE voicelines claims that the aforementioned line is directed towards Winston, but AFAIK from my own experiences, there is no way in the fanmade file extraction tool to tell how a line is triggered or who it is directed towards.

I say this because there’s also Satya (who might defect to Overwatch alongside Niran after her upcoming short story), who has an interaction with Mei in PvP.

Symmetra: “I can't imagine that you're here to do research. Why are you fighting?“

Mei: “I'm here to make a difference in the world. Just like you, right?“

Jack also had a now-removed interaction with Mei in Overwatch 1.

Soldier: 76: “The front lines are no place for a scientist.”

Mei: “I guess it’s a good thing I have you to watch my back.”

Hanzo sounds condescending, Satya sounds curious, and Jack sounds disappointed, as if he’s guilty that someone like Mei feels they have to fight for the better world that he, a soldier genetically enhanced for combat, could not achieve. Still, their sentiment is all the same: Mei does not belong in combat.

We also have characters like Lúcio. Lúcio was literally created to be the embodiment of Lena’s phrase “The world could always use more heroes.” He is a freedom fighter and political activist who, I would say, has definitely proven his worth in the fight against Vishkar, but we can’t forget that Lúcio is also a celebrity DJ. I love, love, love this interaction you can hear from 2019 demos:

Lúcio: “All we can do is fight. If we can beat them in Rio, then we can beat them anywhere, but we start here.”

Tracer: “We? I like the sound of that...”

The Rio team saw Lúcio in action as they were deploying, and they knew they could use his help just as much as he could use theirs. However, I can’t imagine that, say, the New Blood team will roll up to Watchpoint: Gibraltar and not raise eyebrows at the sight of international celebrity DJ Lúcio Correia dos Santos standing there, glowing green hair accessories, roller blades, and all. Imagine early 2010s Skrillex in his place if you can’t imagine how ridiculous that must look to everyone, as capable of a fighter as Lúcio is.

All of this is to say, I think it would be great to have conflict between our heroes in the form of childish bickering amid trivial disagreements, sure. I would also like to see heroes have disagreements in the beliefs that stem from their different backgrounds. Lastly, it would also tie into the overarching theme of “The world could always use more heroes” if we see a few of our heroes be brushed off and doubted by their peers only to prove that everyone can dare to see the world for what it could be, as Dr. Harold Winston put it.

hanzo

you’ve asked about the behemoth you’ve unlocked the gates—

Sexuality Headcanon: gay gay homosexual gay. i think hanzo’s sexuality in my mind teeters from him being so casual about it that you’d think he’s always known (imo he has) or it’s a source of a lot of grief because of the expectations of the head of the clan to bear children (imo it is).

so, to me, he knows he likes men, and he’s too straightforward to deny it, and in his time wandering he’s sought out quickies with men, but i also think it’s a source of stress and shame for him. esp if you get into any of my transzo headcanons the territory gets even messier. but at the same time i can see him being divorced from the desires of the clan as he gets older. like once he gets to 35 he’s kind of like i mean, fuck it—it’s already been some time and i want what i want so it is what it is. i seriously think trauma+his personality make him struggle in developing like actual close relationships in general let alone romantic ones but he is gay and he wants to be with a dude romantically to Me.

Gender Headcanon: tbh i headcanon transzo more often than ciszo but i do tend to write ciszo more often it’s weird lol. but i think it would be an interesting angle to explore if the clan kind of influenced him to be a man and unpacking his struggles with that but ultimately deciding that he’s a man on his own terms but that’s brain rot thoughts for three am—

A ship I have with said character: the only hanzo ship i have and ever will have is with cassidy. otp for life.

i think a lot of the reason i don’t ship hanzo with other characters (largest contender could be bap but i think he and genji or niran work better) is just realistically because when i put their stories and traumas side by side they have the most opportunity to really gain something out of being with one another. what they gain is understanding: someone who gets them on their roughest days, who can talk them down from a panic attack, who they can share a look with and just understand. the chemistry is there physically (see the “pretty handy with that bow” & “good looks are not enough” voicelines which STILL drive me insane by the way — and yes i know hanzo says the good looks are not enough kill line to several people HOWEVER it confirms that he’s only into men for me because he’s ONLY ever said that line to men. i think he only says it to cassidy, reinhardt, and baptiste that i’ve heard? usually when i play hanzo it is a CLUSTERFUCK and i’m SWEATING so there may be more that i’ve missed but he only says it to men confirmed. That and his va being gay is definitely 👀 but that’s a whole other convo).

they would never let the other one get away with their shit, but at the same time they like to pretend their loners when they desperately crave to be understood and have someone to lean on. i think when it comes down to it baptiste is almost TOO adjusted. he and han are similar in that they’ve done things in their past they’re not proud of, but baptiste isn’t running from it; he’s actively trying to make a difference and make it better and in many ways i don’t think hanzo is there yet, and more than likely he’d probably compare himself to bap and feel like he’s not good enough to even stand by him as a friend or coworker let alone romantic interest. similarly COULD be said about cass but there’s something about him that’s extremely disarming to hanzo i feel like.

i could wax poetics about their relationship for deadass fucking hours however i am going to move on before this becomes an entire dissertation.

A BROTP I have with said character: the one that appears in cage is hana and hanzo! i think their friendship is cute, helpful, elder brother/uncle with younger sister/niece energy. basically everything kiriko will never be LMAO. a lot of the reason i do care about this friendship so much kind of stems from my own headcanons about hana and her story which are entirely deviated from canon and WILL make an appearance in cage later on. but i think the two of them are more alike than it would initially seem—hana’s just better adjusted and more outgoing than hanzo. and every fic i’ve ever read that has them as friends has made me emo.

A NOTP I have with said character: hanzo with anyone who isn’t cassidy LMAO.

if i am serious though, hanzo and akande? like bro i understand enemies to lovers and corruption arc are popular ship tropes but i want hanzo to be well fed, well fucked, safe and happy and with akande that would not happen lmao. i don’t think he has the delicacy and tact to manage to break through han’s barriers and to love him genuinely or tender and i think hanzo (clearly) has trauma around authority so akande trying to take the lead in their relationship would be so fucking rough. like it’s toxic and while toxic relationships can be fun to write it ain’t fun for me because hanzo’s the love of my life and i want the best for him 😭

A random headcanon: HANZO IS INTO VISUAL KEI AND I WILL DIE ON THIS FUCKING HILL FUCK BLIZZARD FOR GIVING KIRIKO THAT VKEI SKIN ITS BOTH BAD AND HAN DESERVES IT MORE FUCK YALL SO MUCH. you mean to tell me that this broody angsty s.o.b wouldn’t be into the gazette?? buck tick????? x japan??? dir en grey???? kill yourself like i’m biting and maiming. i think he’d be more into the grungier and darker groups tbh like more of a dir en grey fan bc of their lyricism and imagery… and it’s also lowkey one of the (many) reasons why cage is named cage. cuz cage is a dir en grey song lmao.

General Opinion over said character: he’s the love of my life. like i have never connected with nor been as obsessed with than hanzo and i’m going to go to my grave loving this man. seriously considering getting a shimada clan tattoo just bc i love hanzo so fucking much (i’m just broke) and he consumes my thoughts just as much as hya lmao.

Surprised you didn't say that there's a TumbleWeaver headcanon that

- Niran knows how to take cactus spines out since he's constantly surrounded by plants. Cassidy goes to him almost on a regular basis, not only to get them out, but also to learn about them in general.

- Niran is sometimes asked if there's a softer less prickly cactus to be around. He's tempted to create one using bio light just for shits n' giggles.

- Cassidy and Niran have a pet lizard. Threw around some name to call it:

- Spines?

- Slither??

- Lucio???

- End up deciding that they're getting two lizards instead, naming them 'Bonnie and Clyde'.

- Sombra has also been known to call them 'Cactus and Butt' just to spite Cole.

- Niran thinks it's cute.

- New way to fluster Cassidy: unlocked.

- Ever seen that one photo of a lizard hanging upsidedown so that the other lizard can take a sun bathing nap on them? Yes, they do that.

All I can say is YES THIS-

And I love the implication that Cassidy getting cactus spins in his but in a common occurrence.

I'm stealing this btw-

But I honestly love the idea of Cassidy loving plant life and just liking the environment in general, to the point of him actually knowing and understanding the scientific terminology that characters like Mei and Niran would use.

Also I didn't say this but they would absolutely garden together and go on nature walks or camping, just general outdoorsy stuff and activities. You can't tell me that wouldn't be what a majority of their dates look like, just them doing outdoor activities.
