The more I watch the "Two hours later" scene at the airport, the more I'm starting to believe it could actually be the actual continuation. What if Fyodor somehow did something to prevent Fukuchi to actually die? What if Fukuchi himself tricked Fukuzawa into thinking he was leaving everything in his hands? What if Fukuchi in the new outfit is the result of an ability? (Maybe Agatha's)
I've been reading that "Knight Akutagawa" could be one from another universe. Actually, I feel like it's just OUR Akutagawa, because Atsushi looks genuinely surprised to see him on the battlefield. Maybe he wasn't expecting him to be himself yet. The whole "Just the two of us?" "Do we need someone else?". I feel like Atsushi probably was expecting the "worst" from him, since he tried to attack him (again, as a vampire), and hearing THOSE WORDS gave him hope. He was genuinely relieved. Probably he thought Akutagawa wouldn't come back yet (or at all), but when he did, they fought TOGETHER again.

「 CUDDLING WITH BSD MEN PT 3/4 」
pairings: fyodor x reader ፥ nikolai x reader ፥ sigma x reader ፥ poe x reader
tags: gender neutral reader, no agab mentioned, first person, fluff, cuddling/phyiscal affection
warnings: curse words, I’m sorry I had to curse the doa is cracked
other parts: ada ᨒ port mafia ᨒ doa + the guild ᨒ the hunting dogs
a/n: this is the most cracked part yet
Tumblr media
// fyodor dostoevsky ⌇˚.༄
Tumblr media
⮑ … you are crazy for cuddling him, truly.
⮑ Our dear master manipulator, how you trust him enough to let him that close I do not know how. What confuses me even more, how did you get him to trust you? Anyways— somehow you managed it, and it’s now time for some cuddle headcanons with Fyodor.
⮑ His lap is your throne. He spends pretty much all of his time in front of his monitors, so it’s not uncommon for one of the other doa members to walk in and find you curled up on it. As long as you don’t distract him, he will allow you to stay and do as you please. Sometimes he’ll wrap an arm around your waist.
⮑ He actually doesn’t mind pda, he doesn’t see you as a weakness to himself and trusts that you’ll be taken care of and safe, if not by him then by the others. I think having an arm or hand on your waist is common with him when you two are out. He will make it clear to anyone who stares at you too long that you’re his.
⮑ He’s big spoon always, he will never give up control even with something as small as cuddling. Honestly you’re lucky he will cuddle you at all. He’s not fond of touching much. Seriously the fact you touch him without knowing his ability, you’re absolutely insane. His cuddles I feel like are cold. Oh, and if you annoy him he will kick you off his lap.
⮑ 4/10, when he allows you in his lap and you behave you find that it’s actually quite nice. Good luck though.
Tumblr media
// nikolai gogol ⌇˚.༄
Tumblr media
⮑ I find you crazy for cuddling him as well but for a completely different reason.
⮑ With Fyodor you’re insane because he’s dangerous as hell, and yes Nikolai is too, but I find you crazy for cuddling him because he’s an unpredictable crazy clown. He is the definition of “never let them know your next move”. It’s never safe cuddling him. You never know when he will pull a prank—.
⮑ He will pull shit out of his cloak during cuddle sessions or pull you through. He will come up behind you, hug you, and suddenly you’re teleported to a pool full of rubber ducks. And that’s on the bright side.
⮑ All jokes aside, it scares me to say he’s actually good at cuddling. He’s very attentive, he knows how to read you. Like Dazai, his cuddles feel too secure at time. He knows when to be serious with cuddles, and when he can be unhinged. He’s pretty good at behaving according to what you can handle.
⮑ He’s very comfortable to cuddle, and he loves when you rest your head over his heart. He’s another big spoon for sure, another one who doesn’t like being out of control. Except for him it’s more that it just doesn’t feel comfortable or right. He also loves pda, and he loves messing with you in public. He could care less if people are staring.
⮑ 6/10, you better hope he’s more in an attentive mood than wanting to torment you.
Tumblr media
// sigma ⌇˚.༄
Tumblr media
⮑ He demands cuddles every second of every day. Give them to, him or else.
⮑ Our precious three year old. I promise you he has never been cuddled a day in his life. Like pretty much every aspect of your relationship, cuddles are a new thing that he has to learn. Once he learns though he adores it. It’s his main form of comfort. More often enough he comes home from work and collapses in your arms.
⮑ Due to how stressed out this poor boy is and how he pretty much never catches a break, he’s almost always the little spoon. It’s either a nervous breakdown or you hold him. How can you complain though he’s so precious. Plus he has pretty and soft hair to play with.
⮑ When he is the big spoon he always holds you in his arms protectively, terrified that if he lets go he will lose you. He often will place a hand over your head as he holds you. If you fall asleep in his arms he will sit there wondering how he got so lucky with you. He loves spooning you because again, you’re safe in his arms.
⮑ He loves when you visit him and sit in his lap, it makes working so much easier for him. He’s very shy with pda but if you love it he will do his best. He gets so flustered when people walk into his office and you’re in his arms, it’s actually so precious.
⮑ I could go on and on about him and his adventures of cuddling tbh.
⮑ 10/10, he’s so sweet and cute and does his absolute best for you.
Tumblr media
// edgar allan poe ⌇˚.༄
Tumblr media
⮑ Oh my gosh he’s so easy to fluster I can’t. And Karl?
⮑ No literally it takes nothing to make him flustered he’s so shy. 90% of the time you have to take charge when it comes to initiating physical contact. He second guesses himself and worries he might be too much. So he allows you to initiate it. Yet he panics every time. Crawl into his lap? Tomato.
⮑ Karl constantly crashes your cuddle sessions, which is probably a good thing or things might turn… nsfw. It’s actually quite cute though, Poe will be writing a book, you’ll sit in his lap, and Karl will sit in yours. Honestly you get just as much cuddles from the raccoon as you do your bf, something he gets jealous about lol.
⮑ Believe it or not he’s actually mostly big spoon. Similarly to Sigma, it comforts and reassures him to be big spoon. Though he genuinely doesn’t mind being little spoon, especially if you love being big spoon.
⮑ Your most common cuddle position, besides sitting in his lap when he writes, is either you holding him while he writes, or facing each other in bed holding each other. It’s easy to talk to each other softly and give gentle kisses.
⮑ 9/10, sometimes having to constantly initiate it can get a bit frustrating.

chapter 112
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
hi I'm back with some fyolai thoughts (Sept 20th feels like yesterday and I was definitely not ready to see the manga version...)
first of all, where's Nikolai's hand? there are two panels of him with The Overcoat hiding his entire arm, which cannot be a coincidence. Also, as we know, he's strong enough to support his own body weight with just one arm, and Fyodor looks a lot lighter than him
Tumblr media
"Is that so?"
i have a feeling this is not a regular question. Nikolai is known to use quizzes, rhetorical questions, or in short - there's always hidden meaning. when I first read it, I imagined Gogol saying it in a sarcastic tone, albeit a bit more dejected than usual
when I watched ep 11, it seemed to me that the reasons for Gogol's sadness could be his freedom (to kill Fyodor himself; to use him to achieve his freedom) having been taken away from him, or losing his closest person without being able to do anything, and so on
but seeing the same events unfold in the manga, I cannot help but think that he's downcast because of how unpredictable the vampire's (as well as Dazai and Chuuya's) action were and how fast everything happened, Nikolai had just been talking to Fyodor and the next moment the latter's gone...
or not? given the two panels of Nikolai's hidden arm, perhaps he was able to save his friend this time (in case the theory that the different BSD media are alternate universes turns out to be true). Anyway, Nikolai saving Fyodor here seems more plausible in the manga, as well as Nikolai's hesitation more understandable (if Fyodor's nearby, would Nikolai want to admit out loud he doesn't actually want Fyodor dead?)
Tumblr media
it might be just the translation but this was more heartbreaking than I remember it:
Tumblr media
there's difference between "My life since I met him felt nothing like it did prior" and "The moment I met him I knew that my life had become something entirely different"
I know that I just talked about Nikolai admitting his feelings (if Fyodor can hear him) but it makes sense here. His hesitation is admitting his current emotions, something that affects the present/future, while the second situation is related to the past - something that Fyodor certainly already knows
Tumblr media
perhaps this depends on the translation too but from what I've seen the ending of Nikolai's speech is also slightly different
"Fyodor was right. I fought so I can lose sight of myself. Now I..."
"It's just as he said. I had begun fighting in order to lose myself. And now... look what's happened... Now all I want is just..."
or in other words, Nikolai didn't lose himself, he lost Fyodor

I'm trying to catch up with BSD s5 now that I have time and I'm less than 2 minutes into ep 2 and already I'm going insane and shaking someone's metaphorical shoulders because, because -
"I trusted my soul."
"Actually, I had no way of knowing if they'd believe me."
That's how a story WORKS. The story only has power over you so far as you give it power over you. And if you are a reader or the author of a story, you have that choice to break free from the narrative that's entrapping you. It's like when we get so invested in a piece of fiction and it starts taking over our lives and we have to take a step back and go, right...this is fiction. I know what reality is because I am an individual soul, not a narrative's character and plaything and this story only have power over me as much as I give it power. The characters in BSD might be the characters of the BSD narrative, but they are not the characters of the Book. They are people. Unpredictable, beautiful people that even Ranpo - who CAN predict everything that follows the pattern of a story - cannot fully predict. Because you cannot predict a person's actions or thoughts or future, you can only trust in them

BSD and loneliness
Loneliness and what it does to a person, as well as how far the attempts to counteract it can go, what they can and can't do, is an overarching theme in Asagiri's writing, and many of the stories portrayed can basically boil down to "this person is suffering because they are really, really lonely", which I love. Here I want to focus more on loneliness of the "existential" type, the one that's almost intrinsic to someone and stems from who they are rather than whom they do or don't have around them, because, in my mind, it makes for great tragic stories.
Dazai
He is the most obvious example, and probably one of the loneliest characters I've ever come across. Able to comprehend everything, yet unable and from a point onward unwilling to be comprehended, no one can understand his mind, and even those "like him" who might, like Fyodor, won't understand his emotions. First of all, of course, he controls them too well. Secondly, although I do think there are moments he shows a need for connection, he does that from the safety of his usual persona (for example, hiding behind his usual teasing), so that, in the mind of others, there is no clear distinction between the two. Thirdly, the awareness he has of his own emotions is probably very low, since he's learned that the only way to survive and make sense of himself and the world is to rationalise. There are meagre chances for Dazai the human being with emotions to be less lonely, until he chooses to let himself be seen and be vulnerable, and, at this point, it would probably be extremely hard for him to actually practice that, even if he did make the decision.
Dazai does understand that it's better for people to be with one another rather than alone. It's clear even in Stormbringer, when his mental health is arguably at its lowest. It's clear in Dark Era, when he says that if everyone around him died, it would be a form of suicide (I'm using these examples even though there are clearer ones because these are probably the times he was doing the worst). But he doesn't believe that he can have true companionship, and is also being taught to believe that attachment is a weakness, that loneliness is where he belongs.
And then there's Oda, who, while admittedly unable to understand his mind, comprehended exactly this loneliness of his. He and Ango both did, and, as per the light novel, they could not manage to interfere, but were by him as he experienced it. And yet he barely knew that was the case, until Oda made it clear, and then the one person who he now knew could see him died.
But what people rarely comment on is how much capacity to care for someone Dazai had. There was one person, the first person who saw beyond the unpredictable Demon Prodigy, the first person who acknowledged his loneliness - didn't even manage to break through it, just acknowledged it and treated him with care, and that was enough for Dazai to care about him as much as he did, and that is heartbreaking in itself.
Lastly, but perhaps the most telling point of all is Asagiri himself admitting that he never knows what Dazai is thinking. I don't want to get too into meta, but being the creation of someone, and still not being understood by your own creator is possibly the loneliest position I can think of.
Verlaine
My second favourite example, because here we have someone who was loved, and he knew that he was loved, but it wasn't enough to change things.
Verlaine's loneliness is objective, in the sense that he really is fundamentally different than those around him, he really is not biologically human. That loneliness of his, combined with the hatred that it fostered, was what led him to seek Chuuya - he thought that the only person who could understand him was one who shared that nature, and incorrectly believed that Chuuya would think so as well. He needed Chuuya, and thought that Chuuya would need him in he same way. He was, however, wrong, because Chuuya, being uncertain of his humanity instead of certain of his inhumanity, put great effort into being among other people instead of discarding them.
Rimbaud knew Verlaine's nature since the beginning. He accepted it, he cared for him and loved him regardless. He knew that it made him suffer and was there for him, and he did try to empathise with him, while knowing that it was impossible, because the gap was not one that could be mended. In Verlaine's case, no love could be enough to change his nature, a nature that made him look at the world with hate, including the person who loved him. To a person who feels like they should never have been born, even the sincerest "I'm glad you were born" would only cause pain, until it was too late.
Of course, that's not to say that he actually hated Rimbaud - it's very apparent from the ending of Stormbringer that he cared about him, and that he did appreciate all the efforts he made for him. I don't know if you want to call it love, but it's the closest thing he had the capacity for. But, at the end of the day, nothing that Rimbaud would do could change the fact that Verlaine perceived the gap between himself and the world as unbridgeable. Yet still, he was affected. Nothing could really change, but Rimbaud reached him somehow, although the ending couldn't have been different.
Shibusawa
Here we have an example of someone who shared a similar kind of loneliness, but never had anything to counteract it. He's portrayed as comparable to Dazai and Fyodor: smarter than everyone around him, detached and bored. But, in contrary to Dazai, he isn't shown having any meaningful relationship that could challenge that. This difference is recognised by Dazai, who tells him to his face that he wouldn't think like that if he had any friends. This is a "playful" way to put it, but in reality Dazai simultaneously empathises with his point of view and discards it, because he now knows better than to view people the way Shibusawa does.
I haven't read the light novel, I'm just basing this on the movie, so I can't say much more, but I think his character works as a good point of contrast between people who still try to find "meaning" and those like him, who have decided it's not worth it.
Curious to see where Fyodor, the other so-called superhuman, will fall in regards to this loneliness, but I think we don't know enough about him and how he actually feels in order not to grasp in the dark.
(part 2 about the less existential type of loneliness if i gather enough coherent thoughts)

The Fallen King
Tw for mentions of child abuse because Beast Dazai.
I'm not really well versed in writing manipulative characters. They haven't really come up much in my writing.
Which is kinda werid now I think about it considering the fandoms I'm in.
Suffice to say writing THE manipulator of the Beast universe, Beast Dazai himself is probably not the best starting practice.
But here we are.
It's a bit easier given the bastard is dead. But he's still manipulating Beast Atsushi. He's still lingering in a way, in memory and in hallucinations.
The way I'm choosing to write him is as someone quite unpredictable.
He's nice one minute, he's cruel the next you never really know what mood he's in and it can shift on a dime.
But mostly presents himself as someone quite cheerful, almost light hearted. Almost tricking you into lowering your guard just so he can make his next words hurt.
Atsushi to this day isn't sure what he truly knows about the Boss.
But even at his cruelest Atsushi has always seen Dazai as kind. He saved him, he gave him a name and a purpose and is the reason he has anything.
Atsushi is nothing without Dazai, that's what he's been lead to believe.
No one knows the true extent of Dazai's abuse on Atsushi. Atsushi might have a bond with other menenbers of the Port Mafia but he was also very isolated.
Who would he tell anyway? Even if Atsushi realised this was abuse.... Who's he gonna tell?
Chuuya trained Atsushi and he doesn't even know about the collar. Only Kyouka does and Atsushi is still wearing it. Insists on keeping it on actually.
And at the same time, Dazai's not a one dimensional monster. He cared for Atsushi dearly. His dream which he told Atsushi years ago, was for Atsushi to be happy in the light one day when he's himself was gone.
And he laid the plans have that happen. He knew what he was doing is cruel but to Beast Dazai the ends justify the means.
Atsushi would be safe and happy one day, so what does it matter if he has to suffer to get there? This will make him stronger, this is what is needed.
Than you have his relationship with Chuuya, because oh yeah they were together. It was a secret, albeit the worst kept secret in the entire Port Mafia.
And they were, well them. Dazai loved Chuuya from the moment Chuuya he kicked him in the face. They were partners, they had their ups and downs and really no one could comprehend their relationship.
But they were honestly good for each other. And well Dazai didn't need to break Chuuya to be strong like he did to Atsushi and Akutugawa.
Chuuya was already strong, far stronger than anyone else. So it didn't make sense to Dazai to treat him like he did with them.
With Chuuya and Atsushi, Dazai was reminded that he was human.
For better and for worse.
That's not say Chuuya doesn't know how cruel Dazai can be, it was just never aimed at him like it is with Atsushi. Kinda like how bsd Dazai treats bsd Atsushi and bsd Akutugawa.
Beast Dazai being a good partner didn't change what Dazai did to Atsushi, what he did to the Akutugawa's etc.
He was a ruthless and cruel man. He was kind and loving and he was the best and the worst person you'd ever meet.
... So yeah for a character I don't like I'm really trying to do him justice.

A Theory about Abilities in BSD, and why Fyodor wants to rid the world of Ability users
Originally, I want to delay making this post until I finish reading irl Dostoevsky’s Demons, because I personally find a lot of parallels between BSD’s Fyodor & Nikolai and Pyotr & Stavrogin in Demons, and I truly wish to elaborate on that. However, I just finished the 2014 TV Show Demons and let’s just say I’m moved to the core and nothing except writing about BSD Fyodor could give me peace. I will still be discussing briefly the connection between BSD fyolai & Demons characters in this post, but that discussion wouldn’t be so detailed because I tragically haven’t finished the book yet.
Sorry I’ve rambled a lot. Anyways, here we go.
In addition to the theory that Ability symbolizes trauma response, I want to speculate that Ability also translates one’s negative perception of themself into physical existence. In fact, in irl Atsushi’s work, the Tiger is none but a representation of the self, plagued by vanity and inferiority, that a person has to fight in order to not hurt people around them. Dazai’s ability No Longer Human is portrayed in the 15 manga as a hollow, dark being that only wears his skeleton — that is what dark era Dazai see himself as: non-human, empty, a walking ghost. Sigma believes that he is used as a tool by different ppl, so his Ability was information exchange — a tool for procuring info.
I can list out much more, but basically, I think Ability is an outward manifestation of how BSD characters pessimistically perceive themselves (that’s why Ranpo doesn’t have an ability: he’s confident and in many aspects a child having not yet lost his innocence, protected and loved by Fukuzawa and the ADA). Or rather, the sad, violent, unpredictable self other ppl told them to be. Like Kyouka, who was told that her Ability made her a natural killer. This is why Ability is a pain: it’s the dark side of oneself; it makes Ability users believe that what makes them powerful, useful to other ppl, is this Self that wallows in existential despair, in its own insufficiency, and in the guilt of causing death.
In Dead Apple, our main characters have to fight their own Abilities to achieve growth. In the ADA, Fukuzawa’s Ability keeps all other Abilities under control, creating an ideal environment for ADA members to grow into the better version of themselves. All of these point out Abilities to be trouble rather than strength.
And Fyodor sees that. He sees that for people, Ability represents a past and ongoing pain. No, I’m not trying to justify his cause by presenting him as an all-knowing being. I’m referring to his uncanny ability of seeing into the heart of people’s struggle — his empathy with Sigma, Goncharov, Gogol and even Karma attested to that. And he thinks the only salvation from such darkness is Death.
We already know that Crime and Punishment doesn’t prevent Fyodor from touching ppl, which means he has no reason to hate his own ability to the point of wanting to eradicate it. It is actually just the opposite case. In Dead Apple, Fyodor declared that he himself is the embodiment of both crime and punishment, which are a pair of good friends. He has made peace with the dark version of himself, has accepted his Ability as part of the truth of what he is. Inseparable with his existence. This is why he wants to kill ability users, rather than simply writing away Ability (if that is the purpose he can come up with a convincing story on that one page he already has): his Ability is inevitably linked with his existence; therefore he thinks the only way to take away this twisted, suffering side of oneself is to end their lives.
Now, the second question is that, are Abilities an entirely bad thing? Like everything in BSD, it isn’t a black-and-white matter. We have seen many times our Stray Dogs use their Abilities to protect themselves, and the people they care about. We have to accept that there’s a side of us that feel insecure and unhappy from things we experienced, but this is also the side that help us sympathize & establish in-depth connections with people who are also suffering (see Lucy, Atsushi and Kyouka; Akutagawa and Atsushi; even Teruko’s understanding of Fukuchi may be a result of that).
One of Fyodor’s traits that contributed to his extremism personality is that he doesn’t, or rather refuses to, connect with people. He sees people as mindless chess pieces who live under the lies they tell themselves, easy to manipulate once you grant them the fulfillment of their desires. See? On the surface level he’s on better terms with his Ability — his dark side — than anyone else, and thats why he seems to understand the desires and conflicts in everyone he comes across. But in truth, Crime and Punishment stood with their backs to each other; what seems as reconciliation is actually Fyodor refusing to come face to face with himself. He exalts his pain. He celebrates non-existence. He attributes all his actions to the god — yet as we can see in the two-page spread before his confrontation with Ace, “if god doesn’t exist, then I am god”. He turns his back on his human self, and instead chooses to obsess with the image of a god that is actually how others perceive him to be: the bringer of fear and death, murderer of children, dangerous force of destruction. He takes it in and flips it around, worshipping his darkness, his human suffering, as a source of power.
I’m not saying, however, that Fyodor feels any pain or guilt I have implied here. He is not taking his revenge on the world because he is pained inside, no, let’s not go into that YA dark haired emo boy stereotype. Instead, he is wreaking havoc in the world precisely because he cannot feel this pain. Next will be some spoilers on Demons: one of the main characters, Stavrogin, confessed to a priest about causing a child’s death (won’t go into the nasty details; I’m still shaking from that), and yet he didn’t do it out of guilt — he did it because he wanted to feel proud and noble again, exposing his own sin to let others punish him with their malice, since he didn’t make an effort to repent and couldn’t forgive himself. Stavrogin doesn’t want to move on and trust his own ability to become a better person; instead, he tries to set the whole world against himself, in order to keep avoiding confronting his own conscience and continue to adhere to the false belief of his righteousness. [Spoiler Ends]
This might be a little confusing, but in simpler words, it’s similar to what Fyodor is doing: he doesn’t feel guilty for killing ppl; he hardly feels anything at all. He is a psychopath beyond redemption, that is what others see him as and what he willingly believes. He is excluded from the human world, he has fused himself with his Ability, turning himself wholly into an unfeeling, murderous monster. He forces himself to believe he is doing the right thing in destroying the world because he’s a coward. (Remember that Fyodor is supposed to be a foil of Dazai, and in No Longer Human Dazai calls himself a coward who’s afraid of happiness?) If he steps back and looks at what he did, all the children he killed, he would be forced to feel guilty, which he fears; so he frees himself of his humanity as well as his conscience to avoid accounting for his own darkness. He views the rest of the world as a sin because he doesn’t want to see himself as a sinner.
OK let’s talk a little about Gogol here then because I’m fyolai trash: “In opposition to god, you’re fighting to lose sight of yourself” what does this mean?
This is not actually a very accurate translation. The direct translation from Japanese should be: you are fighting to oppose god and lose sight of yourself. This line also kind of implies Gogol being associated with the military, since the word used for “fighting” here is heavily implied to be war-related. [Spoiler Again] Now, in Demons there is literally a character that resembles Gogol in every way: Pyotr Stepanovich is greatly fascinated with putting on an act, is a master of faking different, often ridiculous personalities to achieve his goal, and he is raising hell all over because he wants to uproot all previously established social systems, calling for a revolution that leads people into decadence and depravation. (AND he even also places the blame of somebody’s murder on an innocent person - while Pyotr is the murderer - as part of the plan!) [Spoiler Ends] This character in Demons is abandoned by his father, so he was always plagued with the belief that he was born wrong, and when his father sought him out only to exploit him further, he lost all belief in god and believed that chaos was the only answer to his empty, unloved existence. This shall provide an answer as to why Gogol thinks human feelings is a thing he ought to transcend: for some reasons his humanity might have been exploited to put him under the control of someone else. Even the person he’s closest with, Fyodor, sees him as a chess piece and he is well aware of that. AND the most deadly thing is that he is comfortable in this relationship because he is used to not receiving anyone’s good will.
Gogol is many things, but perhaps the one thing that draws him constantly to his demise is the fact that he is unloved. He wants to free himself from humanity for an entirely different reason: he feels the constant need to prove that it’s the world that’s wrong, that what he sees is the truth - his actions are controlled, he is trapped by human feelings that never get acknowledged or responded, and these morals/feelings give people power to walk all over him, to use him as a tool. His Ability, which connects spaces, means that his dark side is exactly this need to escape deterred by his fear of being forever trapped by his own limitations.
If I were to put this in a more religious light, since we’re talking about god and russians here, I would quote something from Nietzsche: The demand to be loved is the greatest of all arrogant presumptions. To want god’s love is to give yourself nonexistent sins for Him to forgive — this self-assigned sin is what controlled one’s actions, made one feel guilty. The futile outcry for love, and specifically for god’s love and forgiveness, is what makes people crazy and absurd in Nietzsche’s view. Gogol is sane, and is trying desperately to convince himself that he is so, by seeing through the lie that is called love. He denies himself faith and love in exchange for full control over himself. Why pursue something that he has only known to chain him down? Fyodor understands him, and plays along with his jokes, his games; he isn’t afraid of Fyodor’s understanding, no. He is afraid that he will grow to love his dear friend more until he is consumed by this human lie and forgets how much of a danger it is to his freedom. He trembles in his adoration of the man-god.
I have earlier put out a crack theory that Gogol is a foil of Chuuya. However, in this context, Gogol truly is similar to Chuuya seeing how they are constantly being used by other people, Gogol in a more literal sense since even his speech was pre-written; Chuuya allows himself to forgive and forget, and carry on with life focusing on the present, while Gogol becomes haunted by his hyperawareness of his situation and inability to be free. Neither of these attitudes are healthy and I say it’s no coincidence Asagiri decided to put Dazai, Fyodor, Chuuya, Nikolai and Sigma in the same arc. I look forward to everyone figuring out their problems with equally mentally ill enemies in prison.

I have a question!! So I’m a long-time BSD enjoyer but I haven’t read nearly as much of the manga as I would like. I’ve seen all of the anime though, most of it multiple times through. I didn’t realize until looking at the comments on Danny Motta’s video at how much people fucking hate Fukuchi and his sword. Up until this point I’ve thought it’s cool as hell and he, along with the sword, bring something kinda new and fun to the series.
HOWEVER, I know BSD is FAR from perfect and there’s a lot of dumb shit that faithful manga readers have a better perspective on. Would you mind explaining why Fukuchi and the sword are such a sore point? I hope this isn’t too much to ask. I just really want to know.
Hi anon! Its not too much to ask at all!
Unfortunately the answer to that is best explained in the context of ALL the issues I have with the manga/show so... this is going to be v long... and im done giving this show more credit than it deserves but don't take it that seriously lol I hesitate to even consider my pov to be on par with the average manga reader but ig we'll see how my opinions hold up after i post
And disclaimer: I don't mind answering this but ONLY with the context that this is 100% my opinion (as of late, bsd as a whole has just been REALLY bugging me so im just gonna take this opportunity to explain my gripes since most of them apply to or tie greatly into fukuchi's character/design/motivations/development)
I simply don't want anyone to come for my head bc of anything I say here tho, bc I feel like I may disagree with a large portion of the fanbase but WITH THAT SAID...
***from this point forward there will be a few spoilers from s5e11***
Here are my gripes with BSD...
1. BSD and its "magic system"?
bsd powers suffer from what i like to call a "lack of scope"
granted this could be due to the fact the story isnt complete HOWEVER im sure any anime fan can tell you this story doesnt feel like it is leading anywhere its just... going... (ill get to the awful pacing later)
for comparison sake im going to also talk about The Case Study of Vanitas since it is the world I have the most experience in
what does BSD not have that VNC does?
simply put, the magic system doesnt reinvent itself character to character
in VNC if you have an ability it is EXCLUSIVELY connected to "manipulations of the world formula" which is essentially elemental control (fire, ice, gravity, etc.) based on a sci fi version of chemistry (alchemy, if you will) and this rule applies to EVERY CHARACTER in VNC
its a structure that starts developing from the beginning
BSD however introduces a WHOLE NEW magic system for each character
some character abilities are similar, yes, and can be classified as such, but many cannot be classified
again a magic system doesnt NEED to have strict rules (its actually more boring that way if the rules are too simple) but it DOES need RULES... and solid ones
otherwise its tempting to use the MAGIC system to fill in PLOT RELATED gaps
and if that system isnt defined, well, to me that looks like lazy/sloppy/illogical writing
if you like the whiplash of not knowing whats gonna happen next, fine, (i did for awhile too!) up until the unpredictability started to come from powers that as a whole look like an authors way of trying to write themselves out of their own plot hole
ie: time travel
specifically time travel that isnt introduced FROM THE BEGINNING...
2. Fukuchi and his "deus ex machina" sword
Tumblr media
time travel is NOTORIOUSLY difficult to pull off and especially by my standards
I have watched Doctor Who since 2008, before I even knew what tumblr was I was doing my own solo fandom stuff (basically just watching a LOT of youtube video essays) but basically I have high standards when it comes to time travel in stories
Amenogozen has the POTENTIAL to be a great weapon if used in a logical context... but theres one thing the sword (and BSD as a whole) does not follow
RULES
time travel is TRICKY mostly bc it has consequences... in BSD fukuchi gives nothing in exchange for his powers
lets even toss time travel aside for the moment
what is Fukuchi's innate special ability? Mirror Lion... (read below)
Tumblr media
its essentially an attack multiplier of x100 at CLOSE RANGE
lets say your average untrained human punch is 150psi (pounds per square inch) which is the pressure equivalent of a point 100m below the surface of the ocean...
Tumblr media
with Mirror Lion's multiplier you get 15,000psi which would be 10,000m or 10 kilometers
Tumblr media
a pressure equivalent to the deepest part of the ocean (i dont need to remind you how powerful water is... we all know about oceangate)
MY POINT IS HE'S OVERPOWERED AS FUCK
dont even get me started on his motivations too
im glad we got backstory for him in ep 11 and im sure we are just supposed to sum up his motivations into "he was willing to pay the high price for world peace" but tbh royally fuck that
dont TELL me thats what he believes
PROVE to me how you made that conclusion
also the only reason he even dies is becasue he wants fukuzawa to kill him... we dont have any sense of accomplishment for stopping his scheme because NOW the scheme has been PLOPPED right into fukuzawa's lap which fukuchi intended to do from the start... apparently
and this seemingly retroactive decision-making is a problem A LOT of bsd characters have, especially the one and only character i hate THE MOST... *drumroll*
3. Osamu fucking Dazai
oh boy...
I have thought long and hard about Dazai... im not going to lie, after ch109 and ep10 I was about to admit Dazai might actually have grown on me BUT
this was all erased after 6 minutes into ep11 when he was confirmed to indeed NOT be dead
Dazai just *knows* everything thats gonna happen
Chuuya was never a vamp... he knew this... and somehow his ENTIRE escape plan was just hinging on that? bc yknow... hE kNeW fRoM tHe bEgiNniNg
OSAMU DAZAI IS A PLOT DEVICE USED *ONLY* TO FILL IN NARRATIVE HOLES
HE IS A WAY TO FORCE PROGRESS ON A STORY WITHOUT EVER GIVING A REAL EXPLANATION
HIS CHARACTER IS AN INSULT TO INTELLIGENCE
His character is paper thin, with motivations that do not translate to his actions
and frankly... im tired of it...
additionally... if sigma doesn't survive, all of Meursault was literally useless... so why pick him for nikolai's prison break game?
even if he does, it means the ONLY thing we get out of the arc is information about fyodor... as to WHAT information, who knows... but regardless, a villain arc that has been going on for TOO GODDAMN LONG (40 chapters?) should have a resolution that isnt "i knew what was gonna happen all along"
we spent the whole time being SHOWN that fyodor and dazai were of equal intelligence levels... or at least higher than what dazai was used to dealing with
if dazai could just predict shit like this from the beginning why was fyodor a villain for so long? makes ZERO sense, dazai would've defeated him AGES ago... what makes THIS time any different?
also... why is he even suicidal? yeah ok the author was... but like... why make it such a present character trait?... so we can fake kill him over and over? idk
can you tell i dislike him?
4. THEORY vs PRACTICE
I am a "show dont tell" girlie
ALL BSD DOES IS "TELL TELL TELL" ...its infuriating
almost every power/special ability has an element of "trust me bro" ok SOME OF THEM DONT but most of them do
ie: atsushi is a tiger (what does that even mean), kenji gets strong when he's angry (ok hulk?), and THIS JUST IN we STILL don't know how fyodor's ability works... and now he's DEAD?... we also dont know almost any detail about sigma's ability and he might ALSO be dead
but thats only regarding abilities...
when it comes to writing stories using people of high intelligence it is VERY difficult to not get into the aforementioned "trust me bro" mindset which BSD does REPEATEDLY
im not listing off every example but off the top of my head is one scene from s4...
ranpo explains his plan for saving yosano loosely involved "replacing the engine [of an armored vehicle] with an electric motor and playing engine sounds over the speakers so no one noticed" ...and only i can pick this claim to shreds lol (i engineer electric vehicles for a living) but this is so wrong on so many levels...
Internal combustion engines and Electric motors are IN NO WAY EQUIVALENT
ranpo would never be able to power a vehicle the size of an armored truck with a motor that he installed an hour before the truck was put to use... he just wouldnt... the vehicle is too big... ugh *facepalm*
and dont even get me started on batteries...
MY POINT IS
if you want to write some *genius move* at least TRY to do some research to make the action believable
thats like saying "oh yeah i ran out of gas so a threw a couple AA batteries into my gas tank until i could make it to the station"
BUT THAT WOULDNT FLY BECAUSE MOST PEOPLE KNOW THATS NOT HOW CARS WORK
*sigh*
5. Manga Readers' POV
the.chapters.are.too.short
especially for a monthly released manga
i am relatively new to anime and manga... like late 2020, so I am part of the "new gen" I guess you could say so i know i dont have any right to complain about pacing in comparison to like... the dressrosa arc of One Piece
with that said, not enough in bsd BUILDS on itself
it all feels like a self "one-up"
its been too long since any of my large questions have been answered
honestly its rare that any of my questions are ever answered because the narrative rarely follows logical progression anyway and any scenes thats ARE useful are cut from the anime
characters do not *develop* their powers, they just simply ARE
whatever ability you are born with limits what you can do and thats that... which leads me to...
6. Types of Ability Users
the most coherent thing i think i can speak on so this will be short lol
there are 3 types... i think (excluding lightnovels, i have not read 15, Stormbringer, or any others)
(1) natural abilities (ones that can be nullified by dazai or stolen like in Dead Apple)
(2) human/god fusions (chuuya) -> but this can ALSO be nullified???
(3) when an ability isnt an ability (it CANT be nullified) -> ie: whatever the fuck Lovecraft is
Sigma -> ??? (he could be part of the natural ability category but like... it feels weird to put him there)
but... there is never a comparison between these types so im not even sure of this "list" is exhaustive
this is just another way the story is leaving open ways to dig itself out of a plot hole... which isnt fun... bc now there are no stakes... there are no rules... its disorganized chaos where anything can happen
everyone will always be fine because there is a way out of everything
and thats BORING... and for me, downright infuriating
fukuchi likely falls into the first category... but then again he's also using a tool from another ancient ability user... so does he even fit there?
7. Anime Adaptation
rushed
rushed
RUSHED
and i know why...
BSD is so thin on STABLE plot the story would feel like its dragging if Bones wasn't animating at the pace they are (see Manga Readers' POV)
so to try and counteract the feeling that nothing is happening they are cutting "irrelevant" scenes BUT ALSO important portions relevant ones (ie: aku's death)
do all the plot points from the manga happen? by definition, yes... but the nuance the manga has is lost almost entirely
Atsushi doesn't physically throw an injured Aku's arm over his shoulders... Aku doesn't smile upon his demise... Aku doesn't reach out through the fog of the fire extinguisher (the adaptation of this scene was personally my last straw)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and then we have the new anime content...
why did we tack on an additional fight? zero context... didn't even tie up loose ends from fukuchi like...
is sigma alive?
are chuuya/dazai/nikoali still in france? europe?
is fyodor going to return in some way? (we know nothing of his motives, ability, or MOST importantly, what information did he learn from Sigma??? his ability is an EXCHANGE so why even have that happen if they are both dead anyway?) why would you fucking kill off a character like this
WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THIS ENTIRE ARC??? The mere reason I'm asking this question is, in and of itself, unacceptable
we MAY get an answer later... but its been 20 episodes... why the fuck dont we know anything about the arc we just completed? ...ludicrous
Final Thoughts
BSD does not have enough reliable rules in its magic system to form a solid foundation of... anything
Fukuchi is a disjointed character trying to do too many things at once, he doesn't have solid motivations, and his arc provides more questions than it answers
Osamu Dazai is not a character... he is a plot device used like a saving throw in DND
BSD frequently insults my intelligence to cover it's ass in its storytelling
being a manga reader is like taking 30 days to rip off a tiny band aid... the pacing is unbearable
even with the end of fukuchi's arc now known, there was no sense of accomplishment in defeating him bc technically we didnt… he gave himself up... so the sword was just to make him overpowered... it was pointless
the anime adaptation was rushed, scenes cherry picked, and plot narratively thinned into water... there was no depth this season
In my opinion...
There are very few redeeming characteristics about BSD now
The few meaningful scenes we do get in the manga are overwritten by later context that negates any emotion initially associated with the scene
even with the end of fukuchi's arc now known, there was no sense of accomplishment in defeating him bc technically we didnt... he gave himself up
Dazai is the worst written character I have ever read
It is very likely i drop this story entirely
If I seem salty/upset/etc. its because I am. However is NOT directed at you, it is simply a manifestation of my disappointment in this story.
...
And there you have my opinion... in way too many words... thanks for sticking around if you made it this far im impressed bc i am salty as hell lol

Heyo! Can I pls pls request some tickle headcanons for BSD's Decay of Angels? (Just Fyo, Nikolai, and Sigma).
°•|Hope your day is as great as you are|•°
ℍ𝔼𝔸𝔻ℂ𝔸ℕ𝕆ℕ𝕊
Fandom: boungo stray dogs
Character used: Sigma, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Nikolai Gogol
Tumblr media
Warning: tickles 💙
Tumblr media
Sigma:
Lee:
MY SOFT LITTLE BABY
I feel like he would love to get his neck gently scratched and tickled while someone is doing his hair
Or slightly running fingers along his spines
He got that cute little giggly laugh, and it gets him so embarrassed it's not even funny anymore
He will probably go stiff and not be able to move a muscle when tickled because well it's new to him
My boy probably didn't even know what tickling is-
Well that was before he knew Nikolai, let alone Dazai x)
In short I feel like he would absolutely melt if tickled gently enough, he will try to keep his laughter silent
Key word is "try"
If you tease him he's a goner
Ler:
How????
Okay let's say y'all managed to push him over the edge and make him be a ler
He will try to act cool at first, trying to mask how he is himself flustered
too bad he will probably be struggling to even get his hands on his lee
Y'all be thinking he's building up the tension, while Sigma is just trying to not freak out and actually tickle the lee
He will find himself staring at his lee, more than he would like to admit
He ends up more flustered than the lee lmao
I feel like he would be an extremely gentle ler, making sure his lee isn't overwhelmed
He could be great with aftercare, but that little angel will be running away before (his already falling) confident mask shatter down
Tumblr media
Nikolai:
Lee:
Really jumpy lee, his a little frog, catch him before he disappears in his coat
No seriously, if you wanna wreck him you gotta catch him
It's not that he doesn't like it or stuff
But he likes to see his ler struggle soooo
he likes to be tickled (no shit Sherlock) he doesn't care if it's gentle or roughly
It just makes him feel free to laugh and he seeks freedom
Ler:
Oh boy-
Better run and hide
You know what forget about hiding, you have no chance
He can and WILL use his ability to wreck his lee
I mean can you blame him? You just look adorable when you giggle
This clown is quite unpredictable when tickling someone, he will poke, scratch, rub then go with feather-like touch
You never know what's coming next!
He's a big teaser
Will call his lee "little dove" and stuff like that
Well if aftercare for you means listening to his crazy rambling while he teleports both of you to a comfy place an aftercare, then yeah he's good at that
Tumblr media
Fyodor:
Lee:
Do you have a death wish???? 🤡
Like let's imagine the ler is Dazai or Nikolai
Because Dazai can nullify Fyodor's ability
And because I believe in Fyolai
Sooooo he can't stand feather-like touches
They send him over the edge
But he loves it anyway so~
He doesn't like rough tickling
But he enjoys soft touches
Because he likes to be in control so soft tickles where he can still hold back his laughter is what he prefers
He can and will punch/kick his ler if he feels like he's losing control over his body
Ler:
Okay hum-
Tumblr media
Yes this represents how flustered I'm about to be
MEAN
MEAN RAT
He will tease his lee like "mhh... what if I used my power right now?~"
Teasing
Teasing
Freaking teasing
We know how much this ratty b¡tch can analyze someone's reactions
He will use that to find his lee's most ticklish spots

Hello! Can I make a matchup request for genshin impact and BSD, please? It's not exactly for me, in fact, it's for an OC, but I guess it works anyway? It doesn't matter if it's romantic or platonic. Also, sorry for bad English, my first language is Spanish since I'm from Argentina (I'm poor, yay).
Btw, here is the info:
Mason is an attractive boy of youthful appearance, a pretty face with delicate and almost feminine features, giving him a slightly androgynous appearance, though it's clear that he's a male. His hair is short and white in color, with mesmerizing eyes as blue as the sky, adorned with long white eyelashes. His skin is as white and smooth as porcelain, which contrasts with his crimson lips, he has a slender body with an hourglass shape, flat abdomen and a small waist. He is approximately 5'9 tall.
He is a very clever and cunning individual, he tends to amuse himself by teasing other people. He presents himself as flirtatious, mocking, sarcastic, cunning and playful, even cynical, he tends to flirt with other people just for the fun of it, and sometimes to manipulate them. He has a high economic status, so he has a lot of money and is accustomed to luxury, he's someone arrogant and smug who believes he is better than others because of his great beauty and intelligence. He is cold-hearted and kinda unempathic, has no regard for the pain or suffering of others, and won't hesitate to hurt or manipulate them to get what he wants, though he's not an aggressive person and he has a Lot of patience, so he never loses his calm. Although he's usually playful and mischievous, he doesn't fully open up to others easily, and doesn't often show his emotions.
He's pansexual, born on the first of November so he's a Scorpio. He uses the pronouns "He/him" and he's a cis male. You can choose his age based on the partner you choose for him (yk, so it's not weird or something).
He has sadomasochistic tendencies (if you can do anything with that?) And has a LOT of daddy and mommy issues (my poor boy's traumatized).
Likes sweet things, such as Candy, lollypop, chocolate, perhaps some wine... He also LOVES cats, and although he tends to be apathetic with humans and doesn't really care if he hurts them, he would never harm an animal, or a kid.
Mason also LOVES to tease other people, he always finds it amusing when they get mad at him or the reactions they may have, his teasing, sarcastic, ironic and cynical behavior is already natural to him, almost uncontrollable.
He also likes rain and rainy days, winter is his favorite season of the year, especially if it snows. On the other hand, he absolutely HATES summer and everything that goes with it, insects are a headache and he hates to have them around, and sweating gives him a dirty feeling that always bothers him because he is a very clean and tidy person. Oh, and speaking of order: Mason is quite a perfectionist, and he hates mess. He is a polyglot, he speaks seven languages perfectly. He loves acquiring new knowledge and bragging about it, and hates not understanding something, although this, he's not a curious person, and actually dislikes people who is too curious. He likes mind games and smart people, although he finds unintelligent people funny.
Mason's type varies quite a bit, but he usually likes intelligent and confident people, he is quite versatile, his doesn't really care if his partner is dominant or submissive.
He is amused by people who are easily angered or have explosive behavior, and he tends to get bored easily, so he needs someone who can "entertain" him? You know, someone unpredictable who he can't easily manipulate and who stands out. Oh, and if he's arrogant he's a 10/10, he liked people who don't get flustered easily and can respond to his flirtations without flinching, though he also enjoys getting on the nerves of people who usually keep their cool. He is not a big fan of very mature or serious people, he finds them boring (cofcofhelikesredflagscofcofcof), he LOVES jealous and possessive people, also if they are sarcastic or elegant, sadistic or masochistic (sadomasochistic is a 10/10 for him).
Hi! Thank you for your request! I like doing OC matchups, it's a nice change of pace. Sorry it took so long. I hope you like the matchups!
In Genshin Impact, I match your OC with...
Tumblr media
My first thought was Alhaitham but I think Mason and Kaeya would be an unstoppable duo. They’re both super flirty and have a mocking/teasing side to them so they’ll get along surprisingly well.
Kaeya’s a master at manipulation so he knows what signs to look for when someone is trying to manipulate him. Mason’s going to have his work cut out for him.
I don’t see Kaeya as someone who really gets jealous since he’d feel like a hypocrite if he chastised Mason for flirting with others when he’s doing exactly the same thing but he might feel a bit insecure at times. It’s just because of his past.
Mason would be hard pressed to find someone more confident in the entirety of Teyvat. At least on the outside. Sure, Kaeya’s got some self-worth issues inside but externally, he’s all about parading his confidence.
While their similar personalities might cause clashes on occasion, I think Mason and Kaeya would be a great couple. It’s mutual that they find each other interesting so there’s never any need to worry about one party becoming disinterested.
In Bungo Stray Dogs, I match your OC with...
Tumblr media
Much like Kaeya, Dazai checks a lot of Mason’s boxes for a love interest. He’s flirty, confident, intelligent, entertaining, and, most importantly, not easily manipulated.
The only way Dazai is getting manipulated is if he wants it to happen. He’s too observant and has been around too many manipulative people to miss the signs. He might let Mason think he’s being manipulated for a while before reminding him that it’s not that easy.
Everyone around them is slightly concerned by the mind games they’re constantly playing. Whether it’s Mason or Dazai that started it, you can be sure neither one is backing down.
There’s always some kind of flirting going on as well. Between Mason and Dazai, nothing’s off the table so they’re free to say what they want around the other person. When they’re in public however, they’ll hopefully tone it down…
Dazai enjoys hanging out with Mason since there’s now someone around that can match his energy. Sure, he likes being around Kunikida and Atsushi but they don’t really get him. Mason’s like the other half of him he didn’t know was missing.

BSD "THE BOOK" THEORY
I'm not elaborating much, I've seen several theories about who the author of the book is, I've seen people saying it's Fyodor or Natsume, but I believe it's neither of them and I find the explanation quite simple.
But once again, it's just a theory, and as we all know bsd is known for it's unpredictable outcomes so while I strongly believe this, I also believe it could be all wrong.
Anyway, let's get to the actual theory :)
Tumblr media
The author is Asagiri himself
If you think about it, it actually makes sense. Bsd is a universe similar to a fanfiction, with characters that almost already exist- the writers- except in this world it's like an alternative universe they're in- where these writers have abilities related to their works and live in the present.
I think Asagiri is the author of the book, because as we've seen what's written on the page becomes real- so i thought what if this whole story is the book? In the anime (not in the manga tho, at least i don't remember noticing it) there's this image of the book and the title says "stray dogs", which is a metaphor for the characters in the Bsd universe.
If the current events are happening because they're written on the page, then what if the rest of this story is written on the book?
We never get to see how the writers got their abilities
And, if you actually think about it, it's a bit odd how some of them would notice them- for example, Fukuzawa, his ability is related to the agency. So what before that? Did he have an ability at all before the agency was created? Or does he use it only for those he cares about- but it so, he would use it on his friends and such aswell, right? Something's missing.
Fyodor and the other characters are part of the story
I mean, it makes more sense if it's someone outside of it writting it. Still, there's lots of possibilities and he could be writing about a world he's in, of course. But I feel like it makes more sense if it's an outsider writing it. Fyodor has said himself he wants a world with no abilities, so he's not the writer- why would he write about a world with abilities if he could discard it from the start?
Ranpo said this book is more than just an ability
That's the big thing- Who would have such amount of power? Someone who's not part of the story. Someone who can change it and decide everything as they want. Someone that won't be affected by the changes.
If this isn't an ability how- and who- could create such a thing? The author of the whole series, Asagiri.
----
But again, there's so many theories out there, so many possibilities, so there's no way none of us can be sure until it's revealed.
---
If that was it, how would the story end, or keep going after the author was revealed?
I believe it would be a really interesting ending to have the characters realise they're living in a world of fiction, created by someone's imagination, and the different reactions of each finding it out.
Here's some possible endings I thought of:
They decide they don't want to live in a world that's not "real", that's being created by someone else, so they all decide to end the story, maybe by killing themselves and destroying the world. This is the one I'm least convinced about, since it's unlikely they all agree to do the same.
They all agree to keep the world going and keep living their lives because they've grown with it and it's their reality. But again, for the same reasons as the possibility 1, I don't believe much in this one.
Some of them kill themselves, not willing to live in a "fake" world, and some of them decide to stay and keep things as they are.
---
What do you think? Feel free to discuss theories with me, ask questions, and thanks so much for reading this until here. I hope you enjoyed it!

Bsd characterization and DAZAI characterization specifically is an eighth layer of hell.
But I liked that what you did with them. I liked Atsushi’s child form being significantly more scared or nervous and when he’s an adult you can see bits and pieces of that nervousness he never outgrew. I like that you blended Kunikida’s “YOU SAID. You were going to take on this responsibility so now I’m going to MAKE. SURE. you follow through” attitude was blended perfectly with his desire to care for both Dazai and Atsushi.
And Dazai, my favorite topics of topics, was well handled. His actions were extremely in line with his character “Yes I’ll do it” to “Actually fuck this someone else do this crap” to “WHAT???? I ACTUALLY HAVE TO FOLLOW THROUGH???” To “I’m gonna commit to this bit so hard you’ll alllllll regret it!” His flip flopping was perfectly handled.
The father son interactions had me smiling as a Dad!Cross Marian and Son! Allen Walker fan. The whole “I’m gonna show you I’m safe by riling you up until you snap at me and then I’ll be very positive when you worry about snapping at me” thing is like….such a major favorite of mine. I love it. And it looks good on Dazai.
I am. Very excitable.
I know right-like the characters are so complex, there are so many aspects to consider that I get confused on how to have someone weird and unpredictable as Dazai react to a situation or problem. Will he snap? Close off? Deal with it with humor and his weirdass ways? Subtly avoid it and push it onto someone else? Like who the hell knows? Not me lol
But I'm relieved it worked out in the end! Some kid fics wipe off the character's entire personality as a child and it's a pet peeve of mine. Even with a super fucked up background, a pure trauma bomb isn't all someone is. What I mean is, the kid and their adult version should be recognizable next to each other, some sparks of resemblance remaining to show they're the same person.
And I SWEAR Kunikida's the type to show his care through violent actions and never words. I love his dynamics with everyone else, especially Suicidal Man and Tiger Boy.
Lol I'm glad you found Dazai's reactions in character, thank you again sm!! And I don't recognize those characters, but their dynamic seems like exactly the type I would die for. Yes. Just yes.

I've had many thoughts about Nikolai and Fyodor's dynamic after the last episode, and I think not enough people notice just how amazing Nikolai actually is (both under his clownery - namely his intelligence and cunningness, and with his clownery - namely his charisma).
He is, as far as we know, the ONLY person in the entire BSD universe who is allowed to freely touch Fyodor without consequences, and in such (canon!) intimate ways to boot, as seen in the official art and panels above. Everyone else who has touched Fyodor has either been killed or been silenced in some way (coughs. Sigma passing out indefinitely), but Nikolai is allowed to grab Fyodor's hands, to sit with him in a bloody bathtub and to feed him from behind in a pose that would have easily allowed Nikolai to twist Fyodor's neck or to poison his food. Even moreso, when Dazai described Nikolai as "your friend", Fyodor agreed to the descriptor, which means Nikolai has managed to steal a spot of some kind in Fyodor's heart, something that, again, no one else we know of right now has been able to do. This, I'd say, is due to Nikolai's one-of-a-kind type of charisma, as well as the way he's been shown to care for Fyodor as his "dearest friend" at all times. Fyodor is a deeply skeptical and mistrusting man, but Nikolai has proved enough times that he truly cares about Fyodor to be granted a certain amount of his trust.
On top of that, Fyodor cannot quite manipulate Nikolai. Not necessarily because he doesn't want to or because he can't bring himself to (though that might also be a very teensy part of it), but because he can't - Nikolai is much too unpredictable for that. Fyodor understands Nikolai the best out of the whole cast, but even he cannot say he fully understands him/how he will react in every circumstance (not surprising since even Nikolai himself doesn't know), which makes Nikolai a dangerous person to have around. Nikolai has SUCCESSFULLY surprised Fyodor (the man who seems to know or deduce everything) SEVERAL TIMES, after all.
Firstly, the Decay of Angels' plan had included Nikolai dying during the hostage situation, which Nikolai agreed to in front of them, but then he went against that and saved himself from death, something that Fyodor and the other members didn't know about. We also saw that the hostage scene was written down in the page word for word, which made it much harder for anyone to change it. This goes to show that Nikolai was crafty enough to find a way to go against the page's narrative and survive while simultaneously allowing the plan to go forward, possibly by fooling even the book into believing Nikolai Gogol is dead, because Nikolai Gogol DID lay there on the ground, motionless, cut in half and having bled out to death. Except unlike what the page described, Nikolai faked his death by using his ability to attach someone else's torso and have that be cut off instead of his own (though to everyone else it seemed to be his own).
Secondly, Fyodor sent Nathaniel to assassinate Sigma, which he would've succeeded in... if only Nikolai hadn't randomly decided to go against Fyodor's plan and save him. This is once again something Fyodor hadn't expected to happen, because even Dazai mentions how he picked Sigma to help him during the prison break (partly) because if he hadn't, Fyodor would have disposed of him, this time for sure. That means that Dazai realized Sigma being alive wasn't something that should've happened in Fyodor's plans, and yet Nikolai cheerfully brought Sigma along with him in front of Fyodor to wordlessly explain that he was the one who saved Sigma from Fyodor's assassination attempt.
Thirdly, Nikolai surprised both Fyodor and Dazai simultaneously, two of the world's smartest people, by orchestrating a prison break that would have them go head to head against each other. They would both inject the poison Nikolai gave them into their veins, choose one of his parting gifts, then try to survive the prison break. Nikolai thus managed to make Fyodor willingly inject deadly poison into his own bloodstream.
This other point is kind of half-canon right now since it's anime-only until the manga proves otherwise, but despite all of the above, Fyodor still trusts Nikolai to a rather large extent as seen via how he trusted that the helicopter Nikolai 'guarded' wasn't tampered with, via how he showed Nikolai mutual respect by telling him he'll try to assassinate him next (#just-bff-things) instead of taking him by surprise which would've had higher chances of success, and via how Fyodor didn't seem to wonder if the antidote to the poison was the real thing or if the antidote was the true poison all along.
In short, Nikolai might not be anywhere near Fyodor or Dazai's intellect, but he is plenty gifted in other ways to the point he was able to receive Fyodor's trust up until Nikolai genuinely attempted to kill him, which is when Fyodor decided to try and kill him instead, as well as terribly unpredictable, so much so that he even shocks himself at times, much less Fyodor or other people.

!!!!!!!!! SPOILER!!!!!!! BSD MANGA
I’m sorry but i honestly i didn’t find Chuuya’s “death” as horrifying as the majority of the bsd fandom says it is. Like isn’t he a vampire ?? We don’t know much about what they are either. So they really “die”? Are they considered “undead”? I would be more concerned for Fyodor, since i don’t think his ability is handy in this situation. There’s a possibility of Nikolai intervening, since I think he wanted to end Fyodor himself and not by the hands of Dazai. I noted that many (Soukoku shippers in particular) were upset that Dazai didn’t say a proper goodbye to Chuuya while he was drowning, but it’s obvious that in that kind of situation he can’t possibly express his true emotions about Chuuya (if he truly feels something close to “friendship” or a “kinship” with him). Even if Fyodor dies, Dazai will still have to deal with the rest of the Doa, especially Nikolai. Even Fyodor was somewhat “wary” of him, because of his unpredictability (maybe he even understood him, but that doesn’t mean he can 100% predict his actions). We don’t know if Dazai truly outsmarted Fyodor and dealing with Nikolai will be at least a bit challenging for him.
On a side note, i really wanted to see Chuuya vs Nikolai and if Nikolai is able to avoid Chuuya’s power. Actually i would love to see Nikolai fight anyone (not Atsushi, since we got to see a bit of that even if it wasn’t anything like the Atsushi vs Akutagawa fight). If someone is able to beat him up properly i would be very impressed. In the future, he may fight the Hunting Dogs or the Detective Agency, but we can’t be sure.

BSD OC Insert: Madame Pearl #1
Chapter One: Fortune Is Unpredictable...
{■□■}
After a visit to the office, she went to the restaurant that Dazai has asked her to meet him. She tapped her fingers against the wheel of her roofless Nissan Skyline GTR R34, cyan eyes catching sight of the small restaurant and was quick to park in the parking lot, turning the key in its slot and removing it, placing it in her back pocket, before exiting her car. She stretched and glared at the window of the small establishment, and was going over ideas to make Dazai pay for getting her involved in the Man-Eater's case.
She liked jobs, but as of late, her eyes and body felt more tired than usual.
Maybe it was the lack of food or the dark dreams that haunted her, she didn't exactly know anymore.
Hiromi sighed and fixed her black leather backpack and looked at her green car and  huffed.
She would rather be at home, trying to catch some shut eye. But she shook her head, a job was a job, so she had no choice but to do it. Besides, she was the one that always said she wanted the extra hours.
She regretted it now.
She pushed past the doors, and was walking into the the dining area. She looked around the golden walls and eventually found the the table where Dazai was seated, and then she met eyes with him and his partner, she nodded.
Dazai and his partner, Doppo Kunikida, were both incredibley tall, Dazai having curly brown hair and eyes of the same color, while Kunikida had shoulder length dirty blonde hair, with grayish green eyes, along with glasses. Dazai's attire consisted of a long yellow-metal colored trench coat, the belt that was supposed to tie it closed undone. Underneath, is a black best over a white and blue dress shirt, along with a bolo-tie, which was held by a brown ribbon that was covered by a turquoise opal pendent at the bow. Along with beige pants and leather dark brown shoes, his body was covered in bandages, although no one was sure as to why. Although he never covered his face due to the fact he was to beautiful. Although that wouldn't explain his feet or hands.
Kunikida had a beige vest and pants, with a black long sleeved dress shirt and simple brown shoes. Around his collar was a red ribbon, and his glasses matched the outfit well if anyone asked Hiromi personally.
Both were opposites in personalities, with Dazai being carefree and absolutely nut-balls, with Kunikids being smart and strict. Although in actuality, Dazai was smarter, a genius. Hiromi, she was easy-going, although she loved fun on jobs, mostly ones that involved battle and winning by the skin of her teeth. Although like only hours in the night, she had gotten upset, due to the children being involved with something awful.
It made her angry and uncomfortable, and sometimes, it sent her over the edge.
Eventually, after looking to the person at the other side of the table, ignoring Dazai's flailing arms and Kunikida's annoyed eyes directed at the man, and her cyan eyes met bright yellow/purple hytrometric eyes of s young boy.
She blinked, before tilting her head as the teens both watched each other with curiosity, before both their eyes turned to Dazai, who flailed and cried out to her.
"Hiromi! Come on! We're right here! HIROMI-"
"Shut up Dazai. She can clearly see us." Kunikida tried, but Dazai had continued to wave her over.
She looked unamused, before rolling her eyes, before walking over, shaking her head as she told Kunikida she'd prefer to sit between the two men. He nodded, stepping away from the booth and letting her slip in. The boy had watched her, before their eyes met again.
Something about the boy seemed unusual, but not his ashy silver blonde hair, or his mismatched eyes, but something she felt from something within. Something similar to her own.
And clearly, the boy thought similar.
Like they had met somewhere before.
But then Hiromi decided to forget about it, and turned to Dazai, who was smiling at her with a light grin.
"Was I late?"
"Nope! Thanks for showing up!"
"I didn't have much choice. You always cause trouble." Hiromi smirked at Dazai's devasted expression while Kunikida actually chuckled. The girl turned back to the boy and tilted her head again, cyan eyes meeting those sunset eyes.
"Who is this? A witness?"
Both men watched as the boy looked confused,  before he laughed nervously, stammering.
"Ah! Ha... My name is Atsushi Nakajima. These nice guys have mentioned you. Hiromi Kikuchi? They said your one of their best fighters?"
Hiromi smirked at the table, before looking up at Atsushi, both caught in that same gaze, like they knew each other from somewhere, de-ja-vu.
"That's right. I'm one of the best."
Dazai leaned forward on the table, watching their eyes which were caught to each other like glue, raising an eyebrow,  amused.
"We were just about to explain the case and see if he knows anything." He whispered, before asking the most dreaded question he asked her constantly.
"Did you eat dinner? Or anything at all?"
"Nope."
He sighed, before grabbing his sushi and passed her the plate, glaring at her for her constant mistake that hurt her health.
"Eat it or you'll be taken off the job sight for a week." Kunikida said, also glaring at her.
"What?!"
"President's orders."
She groaned, not feeling even the slightest bit of hunger, before begrudgingly taking a bite of sushi with a pout directed to the tall blonde.
"Damn you and your connection with the president..."
Kunikida shook his head as Dazai noticed Atsushi's confused look.
"She had bad eating habits. Girl could go for days without eating. It's worries the hell out of us."
Atsushi nodded, slowly, before watching as Hiromi glared at the table, continuing to ear the sushi that had been given to her. Dazai ruffled her hair, Clearly showing his worry.
"Anyway kid. You wanted to know about the case?"
Atsushi perked up, and he nodded, not noticing the way Hiromi stared at him, watching his reaction with intent eyes, both glittering with the look of a young child learning to read a book.
Atsushi couldn't believe the day he was having.
He had thought he was going to starve to death. Then he had pulled a man known as Osamu Dazai out of the River, only to learn the man was a suicidal maniac. Then Dazai had decided to use his friend to treat him as an apology for accidentally bothering (if that was the right word to use for that situation) him. After eating a good thirty bowls of Tea On Rice, he learned that they were Superhumans.
Now a woman sat between the two men, eating at the sushi with an annoyed look, he almost laughed.
And he couldn't mistake her for being normal either.
He could almost sense it.
It made his hair stand up on end, heart racing at a fast pace that probably should have killed him by now.
But it wasn't just her gaze.
She had frizzy brown hair, fair skin, and bright cyan-blue-green eyes, black green douyin makeup surrounding her eyelids like shadows, a slim build, clearly she worked out, with just enough feminine looks to not be mistaken for a man. She wore a single earring, navy blue and crystal like, which glittered from her left ear. Her eyes showed the sadness and bravery of a Warrior.
It was odd though.
She wasnt any older than him, maybe just a year apart (with him being the younger one).
All threw turned ti Kunikida as he crossed his arms, eyes meeting Atsushi's purple/yellow orbs.
"As I was saying before, this job doesn't require any secrecy." The table went silent, awaiting Kunikida's next words.
"We're looking for a tiger."
"... A tiger?"
  Hiromi nodded.
"Yes. We're looking for a tiger named then 'Man-Eater'. It had been seen all over the county and had been causing unnatural chaos." She took another piece of sushi, watching Atsushi's eyes clouding with emotions and recognition within his eyes, both Hiromi and Dazai watching for anymore reactions from the younger boy.
"A ferocious Man-Eater who's recently appeared within Yokohama. But we do not know for sure if it's devoured anyone, but it has been spotted raiding warehouses and eating livestock, and causing, as Hiromi said, unnatural chaos." Dazai finished.
Hiromi watched Atsushi's eyes grow wide, panicked about the news as Dazai continued, likely to gain more reaction to the Man-Eater.
"The authorities have received all kinds of frightening reports of the beast-" He never got to finish his sentence.
Because Atsushi had fallen backwards in his panicked state, bringing some of the bowls down with him to the floor, rattles and crashes echoing through the restaurant, surprising the three detectives.
"What's wrong Atsushi?" Dazai asked, although Hiromi could see just what was wrong.
Clearly he knew of the Man-Eater.
The fear, it clouded his judgment like smoke, causing the boy to begin trying to escape.
"I'll... Umm... Be leaving now... Goodbye..." He stuttered, attempting to crawl away from the trio.
Hiromi rolled her eyes at that, honestly finding it funny, watching as Kunikida stood and caught Atsushi by the back of his collar, lifting him up as the young teen attempted to run a few times more.
"Not so fast kid." He stated.
Atsushi continued his feeble attempt of running, but there was no way out of Kunikida's grip.
"Do you know something you're not sharing with us?" Hiromi almost laughed.
Clearly he did.
She smirked.
This might be more fun than she thought.
Although the look on his face almost made her feel bad. The panic and fear, flowing through his entire body like liquid fire, she could almost feel the coldness of it. Something that made her feel almost like getting lost in the past. But she focused.
Atsushi stopped trying to run as he half-faced Kunikida, every last one of his emotions lacing his voice like an overcast sky, returning to his attempt at running away, far away from Yokohama.
"Don't try...! There's no way you can stop that damned animal!"
Kunikida raised a brow as Hiromi played with the fur trim of her coat, while Dazai wrapped his hands together, both watching the spectacle with curiosity. Hiromi replied, shrugging her shoulders.
"Whatever. We've probably faced worse."
"Don't put your two-sense in Kikuchi." She rolled her eyes again, and was playing with a fork instead of her coat as Kunikida turned back to Atsushi.
"Tell us kids, what do you know of this tiger?"
Atsushi continued yo shake, and something inside churned for Hiromi, causing her to drop her fork at his next chosen words.
"It's after me...! It almost killed me!"
Her mind flashed images of trees, of creatures howling in the night, fires sprouting in the distance, screaming everywhere, following a bright yellow line to hopeful freedom.
Only to realize the trees were people, the creatures were murmurs and orders of those people, and those screams....
Dazai was rubbing her back a bit, hand glowing a faint blue as he tried to help the sands from slipping between her lips. She coughed, and she met his eyes, watching them turn blank, and she tried smiling, only to cough more, both deciding it was best to focus on the Detective and teen.
"If it's been seen around here, I have to go! Now!" Atsushi tries running again, all three detectives narrowing their eyes, although pity hazed over her cyan-green-blue orbs.
"Please! I'm begging you, just let me go!" The young teen cried.
Kunikida sighed, before letting him go, only to grab his wrist mid-air, forcing it against Atsushi's back painfully, and letting out a growl as Atsushi groaned in pain, like he might cry.
Ouch...
"Look kid! You'll either pay for the food with your arm or tell us everything!"
Dazai finally stepped in, stopping his light rub on the girl's back, glowing fading away as he stood.
"Now now, Kunikida... Whenever you ask questions, it quickly deteriorates into an interrogation."
"Just like at work." Hiromi whispered, deadpanning to herself as Dazai only chuckled, Kunikida glaring, having heard her words.
Although the tall dirty blonde haired man knew better, she wasn't fazed, similar to Dazai that way.
Dazai made his way over, finished his sentence with an almost tired look.
"You've been talked to about this." Kunikida simply let out a huff and removed his hand from Atsushi's wrist, allowing the boy to sit up.
"Sometimes it's better to let Dazai try with kids like him Kunikida." Hiromi smiled and Kunikida took a second to understand her words.
Dazai then bent down next to the teen, asking:
"Okay now... What do you know of this tiger, Atsushi?"
Arsushi's eyes met Dazai's, rubbing his shoulder in hopes of dulling the pain, before explaining.
"That tiger kept attacking my orphanage... It ruined our vegetable garden... it decimated our chicken coup... And emptied out our food warehouse.... I mean...." He shook his head and continued, Hiromi noting the sadness behind his eyes, the same look she got when she also got lost in the past.
"No one died... But the orphanage was already on a tight budget..." His mind wandered, and she could see the resentment he felt, could almost see the image he was seeing.
Some place dark...
"I got kicked out so they'd have one less mouth to feed... I don't have a home because of that tiger...."
Hiromi didn't know whether or not he could really call it home, she could see the confliction within, and she was now truly curious, especially because of the fact he seemed to be somewhere else, at a different time and placex full of pain and suffering, despite him being with them currently.
"That's quite tragic Atsushi..." Hiromi stated, earning his attention, for both of them to stare a look each other of their similar resentment, for what, neither of them exactly knew.
"It is." Dazai agreed, watching the look between them, seeing whatever gave them the de-ja-vu connection they both had.
"Back to the tiger..." Kunikida began, fidgeting with his fingers that he had placed within his pockets, eyes only watching Atsushi's reactions.
"You said it almost killed you."
Atsushi's body curled slightly in on itself, eyes wandering to the floor, breaking the connection with Hiromi's bright cyan-green-blue eyes.
"It follows wherever I go... Like it's tracking me... Hunting me so it can pounce and tear me to shreds.... Recently, when I was wandering through the Tsusurumi neighborhood..."
He explained the experience, the tiger having showed up in the middle of the street only to glare at him, and Hiromi began to see something just wasn't right with what he was saying.
Something bothered her with the way the story was told, every aspect of the story Atsushi told. Dazai also seemed to think similarly, both sharing a glance, before decidedly, stayed quiet about their thoughts.
"I've been seeing it two weeks before I was expelled from the orphanage, but I've caught glimpses of it many times since then... My instincts tell me, it's come to the city to hunt me down..." Atsushi sweated, and Hiromi tilted her head towards Dazai and Kunikida, who seemed to both be thinking.
"When was the last time you saw the tiger stalking you?" Dazao asked, who watched Atsushi like an eagle with it's prey all the way down on Earth, and Hiromi honestly found it ironic.
The teen didn't notice how he was being watched in that moment, read like a book. Maybe some things that nine of them knew at that moment, he was reading...
"Uhh..." Atsushi looked up, trying to rack his brain.
"I think last I saw it... Was in Tsusurumi four days ago... Yes... Yeah that sounds about right..." Atsushi nodded, before focusing on them again.
"That makes sense." Kunikida stated aloud, catching their attention as he flipped through his notebook.
"Reports of a wild tiger started coming through two weeks ago." He flipped another page, before snapping it close and continued.
"And then it was sited in Tsusurumi, only four days ago..."
Dazai hummed, tilting his head and closing his eyes, while Hironi sighed, knowing she was going to help him catch the tiger.
It's gonna be a long night...
Why was it always impossible to never watch out for the suicidal f*cking manic? She knew she should have avoided calling Dazai back.
"Atsushi, are you free tonight?" That only confirmed her suspicions, and she watched everything else unfold, playing with the strap of her backpack.
"  !?!  " And Astushi clearly knew as well with the nervous look he gave the trio.
"You being the Man-Eater's target presents a perfect opportunity!" Dazai exclaimed, having turned and began to write something down as Hiromi watched Atsushi's reaction, amused by the look he held on his face.
Dazai turned to him with a smile and asked.
"Would you mind helping us find the tiger?"
The reaction was instant.
"NO WAY! FORGET IT! NO, NO, NO-"
Everything played out from there, Dazai sending Kunikida back to the Agency with the note he had written, before she groaned as Dazai suggested driving her car to a location far from normal civilians.
It's gonna be a long, long goddamn night...
