first off i think laios relationship to sex is super removed for like 50 reasons without even getting into his actual sexuality

he grew up in a place with very repressed ideas about sex and has a lot of fear about asserting his presence in situations

his special interest takes precedent over any social interactions he has and the level of closeness he feels towards people

he has a hard time figuring out his feelings towards other people both bc hes autistic and bc he has freaky deviantart fetishes that make sex in his mind a very abstract concept <- this one is me projecting mostly

that aside, i feel like gender-wise hes attracted to ppl so infrequently it may as well be entirely case-by-case

the idea of him being gay appeals to me from the 'raised with traditional values he Does Not fit into/hasnt begun to question it yet' perspective, i lauve characters who put a lot of stock into performing a role thats expected of them and fail miserably for unknown (gay) reasons

from his perspective tho i dont think he would ever really label himself anything. hes going to pride parades in the shirt+shorts Ally Fit to clap for his friends

hes also 'cis by indifference' imo... i love tmasc laios hcs it just doesnt mesh w his personal history to me. i do think hes got some kind of therian gender thing going on (not trans or nb but a secret third thing) but i cant see him changing anything abt his appearance/pronouns to accommodate that post-canon. hes just doin his thang

falin is in a similar boat for gender. i LOOVE tfem falin but the village repression thing has been bugging at me so i dont think i subscribe to it anymore (canon purist sorry) BUT if u hold that hc i am clapping and cheering regardless

adding onto this i rly think senshi got some type of euphoria from being an elf in the changeling chapters. he was feeling himself so much i think he was using it as an outlet to have fun being a little fem and fruity without needing to justify it. do u understand

izu to ME is a transmasc aroace lesbian (this one has the least basis in canon i just know it to be true) shes a little genderfluid with it nd uses he/she i think. i like to imagine she consistently uses masculine personal pronouns to refer to herself either way tho (boku, ore)

i think izutsumis gender/sexuality is entirely secondary in priorities to her body dysphoria. she has a lot of learning and acceptance 2 do before that kind of self discovery is on the docket and in my mind eschewing gender on some level is part of that. get sillay

kabru is a transmasc bisexual this is also practically text. his whole thing of being treated like a doll by milsiril to put in pretty dresses, plus i think it would be pretty easy for him to stealth in the west since tallmen are seen as inherently more masculine than elves

(i also think changing genders is just more common for elves. theyre androgynous enough that it wouldnt be hard and like who in their right miiiiind would be the same gender for 500 years. dwarves too)

i think he started presenting as male socially in the west but didnt need to consider medical transition until he moved to a more mixed culture where other races might see him as a woman

Steph Lauter as Olive Ostrovsky

Thought process: We know Olive's dad works a lot, is emotionally distant, and Olive implies that he can be downright cold or abusive during the I Love You song, which lines up pretty well with Steph and Solomon's relationship. Olive's mom ran off, and we never get any mention of Steph's (picture Steph being introduced by the hosts mentioning her mom won Honey Queen or something). Both know their strengths and weaknesses but have serious self-doubts about their own intelligence (Steph being convinced she's dumber than she realizes, Olive never answering until she whispers the word to herself). Also I thought about Mariah singing TILY Song and sobbed.

Pete Spankoffski as William Morris Barfée

Starting off strong, they both have very stupid names that they KNOW are stupid and try to defend the moment they can ("It's Polish" / "There's an accent aigu"). Both of them have grumpy/cold exteriors, but when you get down to it, they're both just socially awkward and autistic coded but very intelligent kids that are really just at the Bee to try to make something of themselves (Barfée dropping out because of an allergic reaction at the previous Bee could totally translate to Pete having a diabetic emergency). Both develop crushes on Steph/Olive by the end of act 1 of their respective shows too, so. There's that I guess.

Grace Chasity as Logainne Schartzandgrubinierre

"But Ember, wouldn't she match better with the Catholic--" GRACE DOES NOT LIKE CATHOLICS. Also I have thought this through. Logainne is politically aware, cutthroat, and automatically assumes herself to be the most important person in the room. She takes up every project and social issue that she can to appease her dads, determined to be as perfect as they want her to be. She loses the Bee because she gets overconfident, taking a serious blow because of her pride. Grace takes up every project and social issue that she can (anti-hocoming posters and the prank on Max for example), can be cutthroat (canonically has murdered at least two men), and thanks to her holier-than-thou nature, assumes herself the most important person in the room. She takes up cancelling HOCO and is always early for school and is extremely devout because that's the perfect little girl her parents expect from her. And she'd probably get so into it she'd fall from pride, too.

Max Jagerman as Marcy Park

HEAR ME OUT! Marcy has been the top of her class all her life, to the point she was moved one grade ahead. She's popular, she's intelligent, she's multitalented, and she's peaking at age 12 and aware of it. "I Speak Six Languages" is literally her having a breakdown realizing she's been the "best" for too long and it's stressing her out. Max, meanwhile, says he knows he's peaked in high school, and therefore is making the most out of his popularity and status while he can. Like, I can picture him mentioning he's done every sport available to him and being the best athlete is only going to do so much for him in his life in a "I'm so sick and tired / of always being the best and brightest" type monologue. So when he drops out on purpose, who would he daydream about instead of Jesus? Maybe some NFL star idk. Everything I know about football is about the Chiefs (Missouri represent) and also learned against my will.

Ruth Fleming as Chip Tolentino

They're both horny, both proud of their own nerdiness, and would both ABSOLUTELY catch feelings for a competitor's sibling and immediately forget what word they had to spell. And would both make jokes about the especially dirty sounding words (to be fair all his words are kinda funny. And I DID learn the word "tittup" from this show) (look it up I dare y'all). Ruth singing Chip's Lament? Funny to me.

Richie Lipschitz as Leaf Coneybear

AuDHD coded, tendency to have the wrong takeaways, generally socially awkward even among the other nerds. Tbh that's all I got, they're matched up because they're the last ones. Still kinda fits though.

TYSM FOR ENABLING ME ANON BC THEY ARE MY BLORBOS AND IM VIBRATING ABOUT THEM. buckle the fuck up because this is gonna be a long fucking post

Okay first up is Aeris Sharphawk- aro/ace, he/him. he's my main character, my hunter, and the Young Wolf of my timeline.

He’s half-Awoken, half-Human (I’ll get to that in a moment, he’s actually an older oc of mine that I ported over from Bloodborne whose bastard nature needed a D2 equivalent), and the older half-brother to my solar titan, Marcelline Attenbough- one of the few little remnants from their past life that they were able to discover in a diary on Marcie’s corpse when they were rezzed together (which occurred because their ghosts are twins). He’s autistic, lawful neutral, and vastly prefers using Darkness over Light because of sensory issues; his ghost (Hoarfrost, previously Mercury) mods his helmets to drastically reduce noise, but he can’t help how Arc tingles, Solar burns, and Void numbs. Tends to spend most of his battles either hyperfocused or dissociated to deal with it. As for the lawful neutral title, that’s because he doesn’t fight for the Vanguard because of a loyalty to humanity, but exclusively for the survival of the Last City and everyone in it. This extended to House Light and the Cabal under Caital instantaneously, and would do so to Eramis if she so chose, because he really just doesn’t take most things personally. He's sometimes derogatorily called 'the Vanguard's Hound' because of this.

He’s skilled with a bow, and is cursed with a resting haunted stare that can rival even the fiercest bird of prey- hence his title, given to him because his last name wasn’t present in the little diary that Marcie had when they were rezzed. Personality wise, he’s quiet, stoic, extremely efficient at what he does, fiercely protective of those he loves, and deeply curious about the unknown- though if you don’t know him, you’d never be able to guess it, because he struggles deeply with facial expressions and tone, giving him the appearance that he’s ruthlessly cold and unfeeling (pretty much the Guardian we see in game). Because of this, he tends to do much better with Eliksni than most of humanity- bar the Awoken, though Mara makes him deeply uncomfortable- and is thus far more comfortable with them. He’s the moon to Marcie’s sun, and helps keep her in check, for despite her cheery personality, she has a very strong sense of justice and a penchant for impulsive, temperamental behavior when she thinks that justice has been wronged. This goes both ways, however, as Aeris is the very definition of ‘curiosity killed the cat’; he voluntarily gets bit by venomous snakes at venom labs to see how immunity/allergies develops over time, and has a fascination with the Vex that got him a ‘needs watching’ report after he nearly jumped into a pool of radiolaria to see what would happen. The older-brother affection isn’t related to just Marcie, though; he’s unofficially adopted Eido as his younger sister (or kid? Because uhhh that curiosity of his has extended to fucking Misraaks once or twice), and is a mentor figure of sorts to Crow, though he’s unaware that Crow idolizes him; he only hunted Uldren down to keep Marcie out of trouble, as he didn’t like Cayde and was neutral on Uldren, so seeing Crow for the first time didn’t bother him at all. Tutored on occasion by Osiris, and thus has a very deep respect for him.

People other than Marcie that he likes: Zavala, Ikora, Osiris, Eido, Misraaks, Eris, and Variks, Petrichor-12 (oc), Viper-4 (oc, lightless guardian), Crow

People he dislikes: Cayde, the Spider, Clovis Bray, Savathun, Mara Sov, Petra Venj (can’t read her very well), anyone who is loud or insistent or confusing

Primary class (Dark): Stasis

Primary class (Light): Arcstrider

Motifs: Dark, cool blue/silver, viper and hawk symbolism

Likes: Learning about things, working with the Eliksni, being good at being a hunter, bows/glaives/swords, playing with Strand, Gambit (surprisingly)

Dislikes: Crucible, loud noises, fusion rifles, snipers because of the kick (despite being very good with them), shotguns, fans and most other guardians

Fun fact: When Hoarfrost and Solaris found them, it was in a frigid part of old Russia, with Aeris holding Marcie close to his chest with his back to the door- they had frozen to death while trying to keep each other warm, and were under a thick layer of permafrost. When they were risen, they found out their names, their relationship to each other, and the fact that their father was a cheating bastard who produced Aeris after screwing an Awoken woman for the novelty of it because Marcie had a little diary in her front pocket, which had been somewhat preserved by the cold. Both their ghosts theorize that the reason why Aeris is so drawn to Stasis and Marcie to Solar is because of how they died, though neither guardian will say anything about it. He can also speak near-fluent Eliksni.

Then there’s Marcie, younger half-sister to Aeris and the sun to his moon; she/her, Solar Titan, lesbian, lawful good. Where he is quiet and introverted, she is loud and bombastic, and where he likes to dart in and strike down his enemies from afar, she likes to punch. I just recently made her in Destiny because the character creation doesn't really match how I see her, hence why she's got Arc on here

Unlike her half-brother, Marcie is a full human, and- according to the diary she rezzed with- was objectively her father's favorite, though the feeling was not mutual, and their relationship was strained by her taking so kindly to the bastard son he tried to send away. Compared to Aeris, she's bright, bubbly, and outgoing, but has a fierce temper, and is quick to snap if something has pushed her too far-think a jack russel's terrier of a human being. Her ghost's name is Solaris (previously Quicksilver), and she prefers the Light and Solar by far. Her preferred method of combat is to hit first, ask questions later, which can be incredibly effective or incredibly dangerous depending on who's on the opposite end of her wrath. Her and Aeris share many quests together, with me typically attributing all the seasons that I didn’t play to Marcie, given that I didn’t make a Destiny character for her for the longest time.

She was best friends with Cayde, and was so devastated by his death that Aeris had to go instead, as she would have killed anything and everything in vengeance without a second thought. She did, however, kill Riven- something that Aeris himself was somewhat reluctant to do,given his fascination with the Ahamkara. She's stubborn as a mule, surprisingly strong despite her small stature (well, small-ish), and is an absolute massive lesbian, with her type specifically being 'big strong ladies who can kill me'- which was primarily why she wasn't allowed to fight Eramis, or other big hotties, as she has a pretty hardcore crush on her. (The second reason was that she would have stood and bickered with Eramis about the ethics of what she was doing until either one or the other yielded). Instead, she was assigned to work with Misraaks to evacuate House Light refugees, which ended up being a fortuitous partnership with the coming of the Endless Night. Now, her primary work for the Vanguard consists of aiding Eliksni refugees, along with general alien-human politics and tackling xenophobia, as well as working on being an apprentice Splicer. She is very, VERY passionate about equal rights and will drag you to the Crucible if you fight her- and good fucking luck winning against her, because she fucking loves the Crucible and will beat your ass everytime. She’s somewhat of a local celebrity in that reguard

Her deep fondness for her brother comes primarily from the fact that he is one of the few people to take her seriously without either asking her to calm down or come off as patronizing- he's also a well of stability to her excitable moods, the voice of reason to her hyperempathy. While he keeps her from biting off more than she can chew, she acts as his translator + guide, yanking him back onto the path of sanity if he starts to wander into the Deep, and helping him with dysfunction things that Hoarfrost can’t do. She also enjoys working through the data he collects, even if she has no desire to go searching for it herself, so they make a good pair- even if, like most siblings, they will argue over every little thing and sometimes drive each other up the walls with their stubbornness.

I've already mentioned that she got along with Cayde, but her other friends at the tower are Shaxx, Drifter, Saint-14, and Ada-1. Misraaks is her mentor, as well as one of the few people who can talk her down from stupid shit, with uh…questionable results. And while she couldn't stand the sight of Crow when Aeris dragged him back, she managed to befriend him reguardless, mostly because he was so different from the Uldren she remembered that she couldn’t help but accept him for who he was. She often went out drinking with him and Amanda, and was devastated when she died.

People she likes: Cayde, Shaxx, Drifter, Saint-14, Ada-1, Misraaks, Crow, Amanda (rip), Caiatl

People she dislikes: Uldren Sov, The Osmium Siblings, The Spider, Lakshmi-2, anyone against the Eliksni or people who are rude to Aeris, Calus

Likes: Crucible, Gambit, fucking around with weapons in new and creative ways, going out to drink with friends, playfully flirting, helping with construction work around the Eliksni District, playing around with the Light, moths and other fuzzy creatures

Dislikes: Fighting Eliksni, any exploding enemies that she can’t punch, bows because Aeris will always be better than her at using them, the fact that Aeris fucked Misraaks at one point for science, being alone, her inability to score a girl who isn’t a war criminal

Fun fact: Her grasp on Eliksni is actually more fluent than Aeris, and she spends a good deal of her time in the Tower socializing with people while he’s off doing…whatever.

Okay, now onto Petrichor-12, who decided to nope out of being a Guardian so I deleted their slot to make Marcie before I really did anything to dazzle them up

Petrichor-12 is a now-retired guardian that actually came from a dream I had before I even played Destiny. They/them or he/him, neutral good, Void titan, ghost is seldom-speaking and called Whisper. Neutral good. I attribute them with D1 content, so they’re the guardian that killed Crota and Oryx, though Marcie and Aeris were also there to help.

Petrichor is an older, somewhat quiet, melancholy do-gooder that's been haunted by guilt ever since they found out the memories of who they were via the Deep Stone Crypt- a bodyguard for Clovis Bray that was turned to a path of anger, abuse, and violence after agreeing to be tested on for power, and got corrupted by the Darkness. This, paired with being rezzed in the Dark Ages, means that they have a lot of trauma surrounding violence, power, and the dilemma of being made to kill when all you want to do is save people. As such, Eramis's predicament troubles them greatly, and while it was them who gunned her down in conjunction with Aeris, they often found themselves returning to her frozen body on Europa to talk to her (presumed corpse) about Darkness corruption in a sort of venting monologue-advice system, which worked both as a way of fending off their troubles as well as keep an eye on her state- though now that she’s defrosted they’ve vowed never come near her again out of embarrassment.

While retired, they are a stalwart defender of anyone who needs it and a keeper of peace, driven partially by a genuine desire to do good and a need to prove themselves not the person that they used to be. No longer able to mingle with other guardians or humanity at large due to PTSD from what they learned, they live in the Botza district as an ambassador between the Eliksni and humanity, they like to knit + quilt in their free time, teaching whichever hatchlings will listen and getting tutored on weaving by old Wolves in return. They're also 6'3", so…lorge. Zavala and Misraaks are the two people they talk to the most outside of the Eliksni refugees, and they drop by to say hi to Eva and knit with her whenever they have the chance. The war with the Witness is threatning to bring them out of retirement, something that they are deeply unhappy with.

People he likes: Namrask, Misraaks, Saladin, Zavala, Ikora, Osiris (recently), Marcie and Aeris, Saint-14, Eris (complicated)

People they dislike: Themselves, Osiris (formerly), Eramis (reminds them of themselves), Ghaul, Oryx, Xivu Arath, Clovis Bray, anyone who goads them to fight, Elsie and Ana Bray by association, Rasputin

Motif: gold and sapphire blue, used to have a gryphon motif but stopped wearing it because they don’t want to be recognized as the Kingkiller

Likes: Knitting, sewing, weaving, gardening, really anything restorative they can do with their free hands that forces their mind not to wander

Class (Light): Void, sometimes Arc

Class (Dark): no.

Dislikes: War, fighting, being a guardian, everything that has to do with what they used to be, anything Braytech sciences, the cumulative trauma from the Dark Ages and seeing recordings of who they used to be in the Deep Stone Crypt, their own fear of themselves

Fun fact: Petrichor-12 can speak Eliksni fluently, having modulated their voice and hearing to be able to incorporate the subsonic clicks and chirps in their speech, and is now working on learning Ulurant despite not at all liking the Cabal empire

Ash: Another dream character of mine, and my newest Guardian (so she’s somewhat of a wip). She/her, solar + void warlock, chaotic neutral to lawful evil depending on her mood. Pansexual but bitchless. Rezzed in the tail end of the Dark Ages, just long enough for her to see how horrible everything was but not long enough to see the true extent of it. Scholar of the Light, and most recently a scholar of the Dark as well.

Ash is a warlock with an awful temper, a moral code that changes on a whim, and a ravenous appetite for knowledge that comes at the cost of everyone else, including herself. Her ghost (an anxious and caring little lass) is called Nutmeg, and is pretty much the only indicator that she has a soft spot. Ash dedicated herself to learning how to get closer to the Light, but unlike the more conventional meditations that people usually do to, she was inspired by ancient Greek priestesses and decided for a more unconventional route- by doing hard drugs. By getting either extremely drunk or very high, she claims that she overcomes the need for meditation (or, rather, bypasses it entirely because she’s too impatient for it) and gains a deeper connection with her powers, as she’s connecting with it instinctually rather than choosing to seek it out. Nutmeg and many others are not as convinced about this method, but they also can’t deny that it doesn’t have its perks, as Ash does have a very powerful connection to her light- mainly through exploding things, or setting everything around her on fire. It’s how she used to survive the Warlords she’d steal from in the Dark Ages, and she’s known specifically for her ability to mimic a nova bomb, but with solar power, which is strong particularly for how unexpected it is.

However, being constantly hungover and harbouring no friends doesn’t exactly have its benefits, and as a result Ash is almost always grumpy, abrasive, quick to anger, quick to turn to cruel jibes and mocking when being defensive (which is often), and is generally awful to be around. She has no friends other than Nutmeg (whose bond has become strained as of late, since Ash is now turning to substance abuse for coping with the impending threat of the Witness rather than simply using it for her studies), her apartment is an uncleaned shithole she only uses for crashing in when she’s particularly out of it, and she's constantly in a state of passive-aggressive warfare with Osiris, as she and him used to occasionally cross paths and share research; they might have had a student-teacher dynamic if they didn’t grate so abrasively, and if Ash wasn’t so much of a lone wolf. He’s tried to whip her into shape a couple of times, but to no avail- they just devolved into shouting matches. Pretty much the only people she listens to are the Drifter and Nutmeg, but whether or not she’ll actually take their advice is a toss-up.

Despite this, she will overall always choose to do what's right and will begrudgingly trudge along with people in random strikes to ensure that important missions get done, as she fears failure more than she does judgment. And yet, to an extent she also fears judgment, for part of the reason why she’s so cruel is to keep people at arm’s length, so as to prevent them from learning her weaknesses- not even her constant complaining about being bitchless will cover up that the core reason why she makes no effort to clean herself up and be nicer is because she fears vulnerability. She’s also brilliant with the Light and cunningly adept with the Dark, which is why the Vanguard continues to ask for her help and expertise.

People she likes: the Drifter, Hawthorne, Nutmeg, Eido, Toland, Shaxx to most everybody’s surprise

People she dislikes: Pretty much the whole Vanguard and 90% of other guardians, Saladin, the Iron Lords, Osiris, Misraaks,

Dislikes: Being told what to do, being reminded that she’s a mess, being reminded that she’s afraid and that her behavior is starting to turn self-detrimental, being looked down on by other Guardians, the restrictive nature of Vanguard protocol that keeps her from playing around with her experimental supers, guardians who have no respect or care about mortal lives, getting kicked from bars for fighting said guardians with no respect or care for mortal lives, being reminded that she has a soft side and cares so much for other people that it scares her

Fun fact: Likes the Hive aesthetic, and knows their tongue just for the hell of it. Has quite a bit of fun tormenting and taunting Hive Lightbearers, loves digging around the Osmium Siblings. Despite this, she’s not passionate about the Hive, and doesn’t care one bit if they’re wiped out or not. She also pretty much never takes off the Stag helm, as dropping a rift on death has saved her ass more than once, and tends to sleep in her robes. It’s a miracle that she doesn’t stink something awful, but smells perpetually like smoke instead.

and last but not least: Viper-4, an ex-guardian who I have almost nothing on because he tends to be a side character: he/him, trans exo, primarily black chassis with red markings, not yet settled on alignment. A friend of Aeris, he's an ex-Hunter who is now the primary caretaker for a variety of venomous snakes whose species have survived the Collapse. He collects their venom to try to recreate old Golden-Age medicines and antivenom- which he does with Aeris's help- and had his forearms modded with soft silicone so that the snakes don't hurt him if they bite him. Generally a friendly and chill guy, but has a melancholy air as most Ghostless do, and wants to learn Strand so that he has some modicum of control over the elements again, as his lack of feeling the Light was the hardest part about his Ghost's death. Much like Brya and Sagira, his ghost sacrificed her to save him, but he blames himself for her death and pretty much entirely refuses to talk about it. Used to be quite adept with Void. I note that he's trans here because it carried over into his exo body, as he was raised with synthetic top surgery scars that were then worked into beautiful engravings of flowers, swords, and snakes by Viper-1

Well, finished reading Marcy’s Journal and I’m not entirely sure how to feel about it. There were some parts I really liked, some parts that hurt with the foreshadowing (basically 99% of the Andrias-related parts), and then parts that felt kinda dragging. I’ll go into a full depth spoiler review under the cut here.

So, parts I liked. The parts involving Andrias all hurt, but were great. I liked seeing Marcy get to build up her own crew in Newtopia (though now I’m sad that they’re also included in the goodbyes the trio never got to have). All the entries involving characters reuniting were great too. You could really feel the excitement of them being back together.

I love seeing more of Marcy’s autistic traits (maybe she wasn’t initially meant to be autistic, but as an autistic person, she just spoke to me this entire book). Her not liking the texture of eggs, how she doesn’t really let her geek flag fly even with Sasha and Anne, her wishing she was better at people, her clinging to Anne and Sasha because she doesn’t think anyone else would really give her the time of day, it all speaks to the neurodivergent experience.

I liked seeing more of Anne’s thoughts regarding Sasha and Marcy in 3A, especially that one where she felt really desperate and was talking in all caps about how no one else was understanding how bad it was and how she was the only one who could save everyone. I wish we could have gotten like a whole episode on that in place of one of the “Wacky Adventures on Earth” eps.

The story of Anne and Marcy’s first meeting, oh my god, it was so cute! Just little Anne and Marcy at the beach trying (and failing) to protect Marcy’s giant sandcastle 🥺

The True Colors entry was heartbreaking. The hurried handwriting showing Marcy’s turmoil, the darker spots where tears had previously fell, the charred portions of the page, the “WHAT have I DONE?”, the last words that Marcy would write in that journal until after the invasion just being “I’m so sorry” in such small text...

That entry freaking got me.

But I guess onto the not so positive parts.

We still know hardly anything when it comes to Marcy’s or Sasha’s family life. On Sasha’s side, we know that Sasha’s parents both have different partners now and and one of those partners also has kids. Not really anything on which parent she’s living with, the custody situation in general, or the family dynamics. But I can understand the book not going into it much since it was in Marcy and Anne’s point of views, not Sasha’s.

On Marcy’s, we know they held off moving until Marcy came back, had a birthday celebration for Marcy’s 13th, and that they cried when reuniting with Marcy. That’s it really. Given that this was Marcy’s journal and the majority of it was in her own point of view, I expected at least a few more hints.

Then there was the sorta “Episode Commentary” effect once we got to the point in the series where Marcy and Anne reunited. At first, it was kinda nice getting to see Marcy’s (and later Anne’s) inner thoughts to the plot at hand.

But after a while (probably partway through S2B for me), it was just feeling a little repetitive. And I was definitely feeling tired of it through a good chunk of the S3A bits.

This “Episode Commentary” feel was at its most obvious for me with the S3 entries Anne wasn’t in. 3x07b aka the one where Marcy was possessed? She just happens to be thinking a lot about Marcy then. 3x16b with the Andrias backstory? Now, Anne’s wondering exactly what his deal is and how he became the way that he is.

I’m not saying that either of those entries were bad (I actually liked both of them), but it’s definitely evident that they put those entries at those spots to act sort of like a placeholder to the fact that Anne doesn’t appear in those episodes and thus doesn’t have a POV to share.

I wish there was more sort of “between the episodes” type content where we could hear more about the adventures that might have happened off screen. That’s what I loved about the first arc in the book, it was almost all new content to us. Names and faces that we either hasn’t seen or had, but barely knew anything about. It gave new depth to the world of Amphibia and its characters.

If not that, then perhaps piggybacking off of events in canon. Like, we know Anne sent those letters to Sasha and Marcy’s parents, maybe there would have been an entry where they got the letters and talked to the Boonchuy parents about it and then Anne’s parents talk about it with her. Still goes with canon while giving us more new content.

Overall, I liked the book. I don’t regret buying it and I raced through it in like two hours. But I do get the same vibes from it that I got from Amphibia S3: it had the potential to be great, but turned out to be simply good.

That’s just my two cents though.

Managed to catch it live! Glad you think my thoughts are interesting, I'm autistic as shit and love to talk about anything people throw at me. That being said, my thoughts on how Amphibia ended are... extensive, I guess. I'll keep this under the cut to spare my followers.

I've honestly had a very mixed experience with Amphibia as a whole? I originally was not interested in the show, then got very interested in it, and then the tail end of season 3 kind of... lost me. Maybe not entirely, but it definitely didn't capture my attention the same way the first two seasons did. A lot of people say that season 1 and a fair bit of season 2 is "filler," but honestly? It felt like it was all (or most of it anyway) important for establishing the cast, the tone, and the overall liveliness of the show. If the majority of the first 2 seasons was episodic adventures with an overarching narrative, then it did an excellent job at delivering on that status quo.

Then, of course, True Colors aimed to change the status quo in a really interesting way. Things were getting more intense, consequences were becoming more tangible- so you'd expect the writing to pick up in the same direction the end of season 2 leaves you on. In some cases, this works. In others, it doesn't.

It's, unfortunately, another example of a show stretching out of its established expectations and then failing to deliver that same new quality consistently. It's trying to be dark and high-stakes and fantastical but it's also trying to be... a TV-Y7 cartoon with episodic antics contained in 20 minute time slots. Namely I don't understand why the finale felt so stretched out when most of it was recruiting different branches of an army that ultimately contributed very little to the final fight.

On that same note... I'm kind of getting really tired of the same formula of "big finale" that a lot of cartoons seem to be following lately. Everything has to end in a big fight with marvel-level theatrics even when it's completely tonally off from the rest of the show. I liked the Darcy fight! I thought Sasha and Anne teaming up to act as co-leaders was a very cool culmination of their dynamic! ...But ultimately it felt like it was all getting away from what was actually important in this show in the first place. Big, dramatic, precure-esque magical girl fights completely take away from the soft fantasy charm that made Amphibia endearing in the first place. It felt like the Plantars suddenly came second to everything else, despite their family unit being so important previously. It felt like Marcy and Sasha existed to fulfill a prophecy rather than as... people? And I enjoyed their development for the most part- but namely, Marcy was almost entirely shelved until she was important for the prophecy.

The Marcy issue could be a totally separate post, actually, thinking about how disappointing the conclusion to her arc was.

Anyway, I'll just make a little list.

Things I enjoyed seeing: -Yunan and Olivia are canon yaaay gay people #Win -darcy's fight with sasha felt like a great conclusion to Sasha's arc specifically -the weird space house with that god taking domino's form was... unexpected... but cool? i mean, it mostly seemed cool as like... a setup for a completely unrelated video game, but it was still cool.

-sasha bi flag <3 we finally did it. sasha finally likes women.

Things I did not enjoy so much:

-The fact that Andrias... lived? and was largely meant to be seen as sympathetic because WAAAAA IVE HURT SO MANY PEOPLE :< SPECIFICALLY MY FRIENDS </3 like man I don't care about you losing your friends because of your own actions. what about all the people who suffered from you Choosing to be a genocidal colonizer. Dude. Marcy destroy this man.

-I think it's boring when characters suffer very intense injuries and there's no repercussions or lasting effects because making a character visibly or noticeably disabled is too confusing of a change for children or whatever but that might just be me being... beyond the age demographic for this cartoon

-the fact that they waited up until the very last episode to even remotely confirm yunan/olivia. was their romance entirely off-screen? when the hell did they realize they like each other? and i actually really Like yulivia so i don't know how they managed to fuck that up so bad

-same principle as before but bi flag on sasha's rearview mirror. you had to wait..? until now........?

-I don't understand how sasha and anne could have possibly drifted apart or why that's supposed to make sense Sorry if that's me not liking a "mature" writing decision i don't think it's realistic though. or even like... lines up with what they established. Weren't we supposed to come to the conclusion at the tail end of season 3 that they were deeply important to each other? yeah, normally people drift apart after middle school, but these are clearly not... normal circumstances. They went to traumaworld together. same thing with marcy like even if you move you have Phones and computers just make a groupchat damn

-I don't understand the moon thing. I know they've been leading up to it since season 1 supposedly but it's just so funny. the final boss is the moon.

-powerpuff calamity trio looked bad. it was cute in like a pretty precure way i guess but my god it was so power of friendship in a show that was supposed to be like... a little less generic.... than that.... i thought....

-the biggest complaint im seeing is the complete saying goodbye to Amphibia thing which.... yeah i'm going to have to agree. I know the show has kind of been leading up to the girls going home and i think THAT is good, they've always been meant to go home, but i don't necessarily think growing up = abandoning all the things that were fantastic or "magical" about your childhood? this is supposed to be the Realistic ending i guess but it's just depressing. very "growing up sucks and you will grow apart from your friends Get used to it." maybe that wasn't the intention but i don't understand how they could just separate everybody like that after All the shit they went through. crazy to me.

anyway that is enough out of me i hope you didn't expect a super glowing review but i think... amphibia may have just not been for me in the way i thought it was. I really enjoyed the writing of this show for the most part so i can appreciate that but it's going to take a while for me to sit with this finale before I can come back to it probably. not the WORST finale i've ever seen but not great either.

Continue from Analysis L Change the World, how similar and different Maya and L are in their genius talent. L can read people's hearts that is his genius talent. Maya as well. To be able to wear each mask of her talent. Maya needs to understand their characters feeling and hearts. Even Normal people still can't understand their hearts even their people even their lovers. So that's why I call charisma talent. Maya is a hard person for normal people to figure out that Maya is a genius because Maya can live with normal people and friends with normal people and even fall in love. Unlike L, he is not good at being friendly with social. People said L is half autistic. But for me, I do not see him as autistic much.

This is not just acting but also understanding the character's heart.

For someone who knows Marcy Wu from Amphibia. Marcy was insanely clumsy and very oblivious. This causes her to be heavily reliant on her friends—Anne and even Sasha constantly feel the need to look out for her, and she relies on Sasha to make decisions for her. In Amphibia, she has learned to manage herself better and make independent decisions on her own without any influence from other people, although she is still fairly clumsy and sometimes dependent on Anne. Maya is the same as Marcy. She still needs her friends to help her. She's clumsy like Marcy too. The only difference was Marcy has always received straight A's in school and was an avid fan of retro video games. Maya's interest in both movies and acting is very addictive. Marcy is a hard person for normal people to figure out that Marcy is a genius too. Because Marcy also can live with normal people and be friends with normal people. They only care about what they like and stick to it in their own imaginary world, but they like to learn new things. I wouldn't say it's autistic. So why is it so hard for ordinary people to see them as geniuses? They will see it as being smart rather than genius. (Prove that Anne is good friends with Marcy. even called her a genius.)

So, my prediction is, Maya “wins” with her interpretation of the Crimson Goddess and they key to that is Masumi. Those two share an insepperable bond and have truly found their “one true love” in eath other, they just haven’t had the chance to live their love. Their relationship was complicated from the very beginning, when Maya was still obviously much too young to be Masumis lover and it was all about a taltented actress. Fate has been very cruel to them resulting in a very tragic love, even after they both are very aware of eath other’s feeling. Actually, I think the realization that they’re deeply in a mutual love, made it even worse, because of their difficulties being together. Maya’s extreme hardships in her relationship to Masumi will make her come out as the true Crimson Goddess and I’m sure when she’s on stage acting her part, she won’t do it for herself, or her Sensei or anyone for that matter, besides Masumi. She wants to act for him and she wants to show him her perfect Crimson Goddess and I’m pretty sure he will be moved to tears, because he’ll be the only one who’ll truly understand her acting.

:O Ramble about your Amphibia Gymnastics AU.

FLAPS AT YOU OK SO.....

ok so this is a little less detailed than the toh gymnastics au bc ive had it stewing in the brainscape for less time BUT

basically its an artistic gymnastics au specifically. anne, marcy, and sasha have been doing gymnastics together since they were in kinder classes (so like 4/5)! and they all kind of move up together too, though sasha herself started at 18 months she didnt really like it at all at the beginning and didnt try until marcy and anne came along.

marcy was put in because she was really clumsy and had significantly delayed motor skills as a young child so her parents put her in it to help her coordination. sasha's mom is one of those Gymnast Moms vicariously living thru her child and is deadset on her being the very best (she wants her to go elite). anne's parents put her in it because she was a really hyperactive kid who like climbed all over the furniture and scaled walls and she kept trying to do cartwheels in their house and nearly breaking things so they were like 💀 you gotta get out of this house kid

i would say theyre all hm jo level 8 but they all have different specialties. also theyre all aware that at this point with their ages and ability levels they are Not going to be olympians but despite sasha's mom being in total denial about it they are ok with that! marcy's parents are pretty uninvolved and just happy that shes Active, and anne's parents are extremely supportive but often struggle with tuition and meet fees and the like so its kind of hard for them sometimes esp since theyre small business owners

back onto specialties-

marcy is very good at beam because it takes all of her focus and theyre very flexible (hypermobile in fact - she has hypotonia too) but she really struggles with bars due to not being as strong as their teammates. their lines on floor are also really pretty so her dance is good but she struggles with generating power (im totally projecting mind u). they also get injured all the time because her coordination issues and the fact that their connective tissue is just Not With It. shes the type of person who does a super graceful floor / beam routine and then trips and falls the moment theyve saluted walking off the mat or floor uwu (again. projecting). if you haven't guessed this marcy like all marcys is very autistic and adhd and gymnastics is one of her special interests which is why shes stuck with it so long even with her coordination issues and injuries 💜 marcy is also not very competitive and doesnt particularly enjoy competing but they love the sport and score very well on floor exercise and beam. she hates the way leotards feel and no matter how much she wears them they cant seem to get used to wearing them. oh also she is pretty short height wise and has very long limbs! they dont come out as nonbinary until maybe late high school

anne is a powerhouse! floor tumbling and vault are her specialties! she absolutely hates beam because flexibility and dance isnt her strong suit and she has trouble with focusing and applying herself when she isnt 100% into smth. her form is not immaculate, never has been, because she has trouble paying attention to detail (my girl has severe adhd 😌). bars is not her strongest event but shes much stronger than marcy upper body wise! she's also fairly tall (by gymnast standards - shes only 5'5) and had a growth spurt early on, so she towers over her teammates a little bit. she isnt insecure about her height though and likes that she is Strong and Fast. she isnt a perfectionist and doesnt really mind if she doesnt score as well as expected. most of the time she tends to ignore things that bother her to the point of detriment though, so she has gotten a few injuries - namely a broken arm caused by tumbling that didnt heal right because doctors are racist and didnt think she needed surgery right away. that has made bars a bit harder, but shes super stubborn and tries to not let it get in her way! oh and also shes a trans girl uwu (please let me know if im being stereotypical at all, this is mostly a brain storm and i am tme and dont want to hurt anyone) i am also aware that there are a lot of transphobic rules out there for athletes so i need to do some research as to how this would affect her ability to compete but in 2020 the usag rules changed to allow trans gymnasts to participate inclusively in gymnastics so i might just make it so in the fic that rule was changed earlier. ill think on it.

sasha is extremely talented. this being said, she has a mostly hate relationship with gymnastics. she loves her friends, and his mom wouldnt let her quit even without that, which is why he's stuck with gym so long. she really wants to be a cheerleader, but his mom wont let her do anything but gymnastics :( she also has significant body image issues and does struggle with disordered eating because of the perfectionism forced upon him. she eventually realized hes bigender but it... takes awhile. he actually gets really anxious before and during meets because she knows his mom is Watching and she can be... very easily disappointed. her best event is bars! hes super strong but also fairly flexible. she is also extremely short, like shorter than marcy short, and very Angy about it >:3

still deciding who owns the gym, but anne helps out with pre-k classes and wants to be a coach eventually. she's really good with kids ! sprig is on the boys gymnastics team (level 6 maybe???) and polly is competing jo level 2 this season. shes kind of a Prodigy and at only 5 is the youngest on team (little caveat: she still has super short arms and legs and she struggles with vaulting and tumbling just cuz shes still so small 😭 my tiny baby). oh and im considering making hop pop the team dance teacher bc of his performing arts bg idk....

andrias gets No Rights so he might not appear in this au idk for sure 💜 i dont like him 😌

olivia specializes in coaching beam, bars, and floor, and yunan prefers coaching tumbling and vault!

i think thats all the ideas i have rn... but i will come up with more 😌

Amphibia Weekly Reviews: New Wartwood and Friend or Frobo?

Hello all you happy people! And welcome back to another week’s worth of Amphibia reviews! And we got two standout episodes today as Marcy tries to home improvement her way into people’s hearts, and Polly makes friends with a destructive but endearing robot. Find out what I thought about in full under the cut!

New Wartwood: Marcy episode! Wu-hoo! And true to the show’s current status quo, and I do love how it evolves, it’s her first day in Wartwood and she’s pumped. And true to the awkward, probably autistic like yours truly, nerd we’re dealing with.. she does not make a great impression or intergrate herself to the naturally suspcious of outsiders tow. So when questioned by Anne how her day went she gets into how the town’s carefully built on a swamp.. and how the townsfolk hate her, complete with Angry Mob. Anne disperses it but it’s still the funniest moment of the episode to me, both in how a small one sprouted up so quick.. and how polly’s there despite LIKING Marcy (”I go where the mob goes anne!”). ALso i’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Anne just.. casually blushing while talking to Marcy. There’s no catalyist or any reason she would for any other reason than being sweet on her.

So Marcy, after fixing a statue she knocked over, decides she can earn their love faster as she dosen’t want to wait. This does get to one of Marcy’s core issues.. while she has many, like any of us, it ties back to the fact she has trouble getting this isn’t a video game. I mean she does get the diffrence between real life and a game on an objective level, but she can’t get real life dosen’t WORK like fiction, something i’ve also struggled with and can massively relate to. So she assumes helping them, via fixing up the town a bit, will make them like her. It makes them warm up a little but they still don’t.

So naturally, who should come in by blimp to give her a tempting offer that will end badly but Mayor Toadstool! He also has a blimp now but it keeps escaping... I think I know where it went.

So THAT’S how he can afford those things. Naturally seeing how nice Marcy made things he has a plan to exploit the hell out of her gifts with masonry to pretty up the town as a tourist attraction to make him more money. Anne talks her out of it.. but she ends up caving in the middle of the night. I also love the touch of her staying in the Fwagon, not forgetting the plantars bought it and finding a practical use for it in and out of story now i’ts no longer needed. I also love the little signs she has on it.

The next morning the town awakes to marble pillars in front of all of the shops to make them look fancy and Marcy and the Mayor promoting the town’s new effort,s including a golden founderss tatue and a horrifying golden clock of toadstool, with Anne warry of her girlfriend’s antics. Mostly becaue you can’t force people to like you or bribe them to. Otherwise you cause the entire town to sink into the water bellow... like now. But while Marcy is now convinced the town will never accept her she still dosen’t want them all to die, and summons Joe Sparrow.. who continues to be the best thing ever added to this cast I swear to god as he helps her save the day, removing the various new things to reduce weight, saving some villiagers from a pillar (as Croaker points out their frogs ending up in the water isn’t that deadly), and getting rid of the gold monstrosities.

So the end result is that the town is rightfully liviid, though she does genuinely appologize.. and suprisingly.. TOADSTOOL actually tries to take all the blame. The town rightfully dosen’t let him, but it’s clear he’s somehow growing as a person. Even if anne’s assement of him as “What would happen if the Monopoly Man had a Baby with a PIece of Fried Chicken” is still 100% accurate. They do agree they’ll like her with time, just like Anne, and if supscious, will gladly give her another shot. So Marcy’s learned her lesson.. always listen to your girlfriend. And while she literally fixes her damage.. the mascot toadstool hired explodes as it’s full of bugs.

Final Thoughts on New Wartwood: This was a fun episode. A fairly simple and predictable one, but sometimes that works perfectly and this one was just damn funny, charming and full of good character stuff. Top notch.

Friend or Frobo?:

I have a confession to make: I fricking love robots. It’s something that really HASN’T come up before, but I love a good robot. There’s just tons of good stories to be had with artifical beings, their struggles to be recongized for who they are, their cool powers, their awkward but endearing attempts to fit in with us less than deserving humans. And ficton’s had TONS and TONS of awesome ones: The Vision (in both 616 and MCU flavors), who is one of my faviorite heroes period, Red Tornado, Jenny Wakeman, Shard the Metal Sonic, BOYD, Aya, Data, Crow, Tom Servo, Gypsy, Growler, Robo, Grimlock. the list really DOES go on into infinity for me.

WEirdly though I didn’t pay much mind to Frobo before this episode.. but with no real personality other than endearlingly running into the same obstacle for hours, and no real background yet, I didn’t really have anything to attach to other than “Cool anne’s either going to nearly get killed by a robot or get one”. But this episode changed that using the oldest trick in the book: having a child befriend it. We’ve seen it before with Sentinels, Badniks, Autobots and Iron Giants. Now we get it again with largeish frog robot. And it is pretty damn good.

This is a Polly episode. It’s Hop Pop’s faviorite day: Seed Store Day! Naturally Marcy has come along and naturlaly she’s just as geeked out about seeds as he is because she’s precious and I must protect her from the horrible trauma her trusted father figure is about to inflict on her. Polly naturally wants to get into some shenanigans but suprisingly.. Anne and Sprig don’t wanna anymore. THey’ve learned their lesson and decide to just play video games. So polly does the resonable thing.. and blames them for some shenanigans on her part and goes out to get into more shneanigans only to find it’s lonely without a friend.

Enter Frobo, named that because he looks like a frog and she heard the term robo from anne’s game. And despite very limited programming... Frobo is VERY loveable. As Polly notes he’s essentially a baby: he starts by mimicing her, including his horrifying but endearing laugh, and even doing her spin dash she gained a few episodes back I didn’t mention because I forgot. That one’s on me. Sprig also did the Yooka Laylee thing on top of her spin dash then so there’s that.

Point is it’s all fun, games and heartwarming bonding till Frobo accidently floods the city and gets mobbed and one of the mobbs makes the terrible mistake of accidently kicking polly.

He goes into Red Eye Iron Giant HOmage mode and starts fighting everybody.. including Anne and Sprig who show up to contain things, but eventually Polly wins everyone over with a heartwarming speech as she stops him, pointing out it was her fault and while he is weird, he’s just an innocent> The town.. decides why not. As the mayor points out “We already have two freaks what’s a third”. And given Marcy nearly killed them all yesterday and they begrudginly acepted her and anne did it WAY more than once and they see her as one of them, yeah they give up.

Naturally once they get back Marcy is an easy sell. Now she can do chrono trigger cosplay! Hop Pop is a bit till it’s shown that frobo can farm super fast, and he’s part of the family now. Sprig and Anne shrug off him having come from the factory, and this surely won’t backfire on them surely.

Final Thoughts on Friend or Frobo:

This one was excellent. The idea of Polly having to learn repsonsiblity was a nice idea, and Frobo is as I said endearing: he’s simply an innocent being who knows nothing and is slowly learning and his friendship with polly is really fucking cute. And giving him an emotional attachment to the plantars means whatevers going on with him gets higher stakes.. and given how robots are treated in fiction i’m just counting the minutes till he tragically gets blowed up real good. But until then this episode was a standout for the season. While as I made clear the “Kid befriends death machine” trope is not NEW, the baby concept made it feel fresh. It also as usual had some good jokes.

So all in all a top notch week, really great stuff and i’ts only going to get better next time!

Nexttime: Mayor Toadstool is tempted to leave. Kay. But more importantly MADDIE EPISODE AGAIN BITCHES. AND IT HAS MARCY IT. I’M READY.

LOVED the new Amphibia episode! It really helped improve my mood after, you know… Anyhow, Newtopia is a BEAUTIFUL setting and I adore it! It’s so wonderfully vibrant, and I love the look we get into the Newts as being more aquatic compared to the other species of Newtopia (as seen with Bella the Bellhop, I’d die for her)! The character designs, from background characters to minor ones, just have so much CHARM to them, they’re amazing!

I really appreciate our first look at an alligator here! I was literally just wondering why he hadn’t seen one yet, and now we have! I love that the characters don’t even hold anything against it for being an animal that just wants to eat, and once they can safely interact they feed him Gnatchos! Best character, honestly, brilliant design!

Marcy is autistic, she has trouble being social and can’t look others in the eye! It’s canon, and I love her for it! Given how much of a nerd she is, it makes sense she’d provide so much to Newtopia given her knowledge of modern plumbing, architecture, engineering, etc.! You know, I have to wonder… Matt Braly said Sprig was Anne’s first non-toxic friendship. I know we’re all concerned for Marcy being toxic to Anne in her own way, but… What if Anne was the toxic one to Marcy??? Remember when she first met Sprig, she initially bullied him into hanging out at the lake because of the toxicity she picked up. THAT, or these two girls are both toxic to each other…!

Andrias is an interesting fellow. His way of communicating through puzzle games, the little tricks and things he does with his guests… I have to wonder if he sees everything like just one big game, which could also lead to him disregarding others in the process. It’s an interesting pair-up with Marcy, who’s also projecting some of her RPG and videogame fantasies onto her adventure in Newtopia, although whether or not either of them take it too far, and forget that they’re dealing with real people and consequences, we have to see!

And I LOVE the design of those Elite Newt guards! I… Just one look, and I think they’re among my favorite designs in all of fiction, EVER…! Just the sleek, armored look, the armored skirts, the tails to balance out the design, those RAD helmets… No offense to all of the other brilliant designs I’ve been enjoying, but I think those Elite Newts have my PERSONAL favorite character-designs out of the entire show!

Also, I don’t blame Anne for not noticing the jewels as gray; She’d barely gotten a hold of the Calamity Box while its jewels were colored, and amidst the chaos of being transported to another dimension, I don’t blame her for forgetting! Like maybe she THOUGHT they were colored at first, but then checked and say they were gray and then assumed she was wrong! Also, Marcy taking the lead in group projects is so relatable to me.

Like I said, I’d die for Bella the Bellhop! I know she’s probably going to appear in just this one episode as a guest star, but I’ve already savored our time together! I love getting to appreciate Sprig as a character, he’s such a wonderful kid with so much energy and it was a joy to see him be nice to Bella, to extend his graces to her… And I LOVE the joke of the old Newts taking their sweet time and rubbing it in Sprig’s face; And instead of just bearing through with it like in most cartoons, Sprig just says SCREW THIS and throws those boomers’ walking-things through the elevator! A very hilarious yet satisfying subversion of that trope!

In general, we see that Newtopia is THE pinnacle of society, of class and wealth… But naturally there’s also privileged elitists, like those old newts who showed no regard for Sprig’s time, and the various other characters we see! Given their place of privilege, where does it come from? Where was it built upon, and by whom? We’ve only ever seen Frogs and Toads in ‘the boonies’, as Yunnan would call them! Not saying Grime has a point about revolution, but he KINDA does… Although it’s clear his idea of revolution is more putting Toads on top of the caste system, instead of just abolishing it entirely! Well Hop Pop, now’s your time to shine…! Also I really found it adorable how wowed he was about the Beetle Burger awards, as was his Burger Boy armor!

This was just… a FEEL GOOD episode! An episode that’s written and animated to make the viewer relax, to laugh, and to enjoy themselves! Which after Agony of a Witch, was MUCH appreciated…! Thanks Amphibia!
