Have you seen the halfa cass post that's been floating around? I'd love to see your take on that
I'm going to assume you mean the au made by @phandomhyperfixationblog so I'll write about that but if I am wrong please let me know in another ask or message.
Cass was sent to Amity Park to investigate its residents' disappearance. Ghost towns in the USA were fairly common, often after they were abandoned, the earth would reclaim the land and would be left untouched for years to come until a lucky urban exploder discovered it again.
What wasn't uncommon was that everything was left behind when the town was abandoned. Cass walks down three more streets, eyes taking in everything around her. Although the lawns were vastly overgrown and the houses left to the elements, there weren't a lot of open spaces.
Empty cars were parked perfectly along the road or in a lot, chairs and tables on porches were left out, children's toys laid in driveways, and after squinting through a few windows, she could see fully furnished households- some even had a slight mess as if the owners hadn't gotten around to their household chores yet.
One house even had a dinner table set up. The meal was rotten and smelled, but she could tell it was a family dinner that was interrupted mid-way.
Yes, everything was covered in dust, as if years had gone by since someone was last here, but otherwise, it looked like a thriving community had been here only a few days ago.
Even the stores were fully stoked, aisled upon aisled of merchandise left untouched for who knows how long. Restuantants were similar, rotten food aside, everything was open and set up as like a normal bussniess hour.
Overall, it didn't seem like the residents willingly abandoned this place. They left literally everything behind. Nothing showed looting either, which indicated how uncommonly outsiders came here.
The fact Cass was investigating Amity Park at all was because she was doing a favor for Raven. The girls didn't talk much, but it was the least she could do as the magic-user had helped her with a fight in Hong Kong a few days ago.
Raven claimed that an abnormal energy pulse came from the town. It wasn't wrong; some places just had more natural energy to them, but she had always wondered what the cause was.
It is a low-level mystery that she put off exploring due to all other priorities, but about a week ago, Raven sensed another pulse-this one reeking of death- and had asked Cass to check it out while she went on a space mission with the rest of the Titans.
She was supposed to take picutes, do some scenes and get some readings. Cass was not expecting to find literally no one for miles.
Cass slowly made her way down streets, breaking into houses and stores, looking for clues. She found no signs of a struggle but that may be due to the time frame of when this happened.
It wasn't until she got to Fenton Works that she managed that she could figure out some parts of the puzzle. The building itself was a challenge to get into. It was rigged to the teeth with weapons and security measures.
Some were old and rusted, but a majority quickly powered up to shoot at her as she tried to get past. Ducking and weaving through the blast she felt all her muscles burn from the rapid dodge she was doing.
Through years of training, she turned a handstand into a run and then a leap to crash through the front window, and the weapons outside halted as soon as she rolled to a stop in what appeared to be a cozy living room.
Weary, she watched as the gun blasters slowly retreated back into the slight holes along the roof, the fake pathway, and the gnome. Once done the world fell silent again. It's now that Cass startles.
She hadn't noticed Amity Park's silence until it was broken. She hadn't heard birds or the wind blowing through the leaves as she walked. Something was terribly wrong in this place.
Maybe she can find out what it was in Fenton Works.
She began her search by examining the walls. They were lined with family photos- a family of father, mother, and what she assumes are the children of both based on facial features, one girl and one boy. There are art pieces every so often- primarily abstract. The furniture is nothing expensive- coming from a generic furniture store. The kitchen smells rotten food- like most houses- but there is a stack of books on the table.
Cass peers down at them, noticing that they all revolve around a psychology of some sort. An open book is lying next to a notebook filled with notes for teenage development. A pencil is even left over the last unfinished sentence.
Danny's need for acceptance may be due to living in my shadow. I should show him more support.
Cass moves upstairs after confirming there is nothing else of value. There, he finds three rooms- a master bedroom obviously belonging to the parents, a slightly larger room belonging to the girl, and the smallest bedroom belonging to the boy.
Cass can confirm that the girl was tidier than the boy but while her room seemed less personal than the boy's. While the boy has far more personal touches to his belongings, nothing seems to be in order or so driven.
The parents' room was covered with either machinery that could be weapons or images of their children. Whoever they are- or were they loved the two deeply.
In the master bathroom, Cass found that the couple habitually wrote sticky notes with their to-do lists taped on the bathroom mirror's corner. She could tell the differences in handwriting and word choice- the mother wrote explanations while the father did short annotations.
Clean the beakers in lab zone 2. They are releasing gasses, so they must be disposed of properly.
Jazzy-pants slam poetry night. Nov 19th. 6pm.
Danny's sleep study. Dec 10th. Teachers said he's been falling asleep in class too often. It might be Narcolospy!
Dinner Date with Maddie. Nov 22. Classical music reservation.
Cass taps her chin. This happened before December but what year and where did everyone go?
She looks down at the sticky notes again, noticing that many speak about a "lab" downstairs. Seeing as she did not find a lab on the ground level, that only left a lower one.
Leaving the bedroom, she makes her way down to the basement, where she does, in fact, find a large lab. There is a clutter of tools for the eye to see, all surrounding what looks like everyday household items and weapons.
Cass's lips thin as she takes in the strangely shaped guns, staffs, and blades. A weapon maifator? But why here? She tried the computers she scattered about, but none worked. She didn't think so, seeing as the electricity had been shut down across the city, but she had hoped.
Thankfully, this family seemed to believe in paper and pencils because she could find multiple writings throughout the lab. It's mathematical, primarily formulas, a half-baked thesis of "ecto-being" behavior, and notes on "ecto-beings." portal.
A portal that is sitting at the far right of the lab. Cass walks around the perimeter checking to see if it has any traps, but finds none. Then she walks over to the controllers testing the power on it.
She pressed the on button waits forty seconds to confirm that it was not active before she entered the portal. It resembles an early design of the zeta tubes. Maybe the family here were trying to develop teleporting technology-
"GET OUT OF THERE!" Someone shouts. Cass jumps a good foot in the air, swinging around with her fists raised for battle. She hadn't heard him! Hadn't sensed him at all!
It's been long since anyone has gotten the drop on her. She is just grateful she is wearing a mask- not her batgirl or Orphan gear but rather a borrowed ninja outfit Damian had granted her- since it means her identity is protected from the glowing man at the stairway's base.
Wait, glowing?
She opens her mouth to demand to know who he is when the portal powers on. She only had a moment to bite back a swear before her world exploded in pain.
Cass can hear herself scream, but it's too far away from the agony of electricity being poured into her body. She is being ripped apart by it, pushed and molded, and put back together again, only to start the process repeatedly.
It feels like ages before she can't handle it anymore- again, it's been years since that last happened- before the world fades away and she falls into blissful slumber
She has smoke-grey hair and glowing opal-white eyes when she wakes hours later.
The man is leaning over her with snow-white hair and glowing green eyes, looking worried as Cass finds that her body can no longer stay solid. It seemed that she had died and now had the body of a ghost.
She knows who makes this.
"Hello, Danny," She says, pushing through the pain of her death. Oh gods, how will Bruce react when he learns about her stupid error. She doesn't want to think about it, so she pushes it away to give the startled man an empty smile. She had to at least figure out the mystery so that her death can not be in vain."I have some questions about Amity Park."

you were out with your friends scrolling through instagram. looking at new people to follow your eyes find one person you don't like... kang taehyun. you are a snoopy person by heart, so of course you hit the follow button.
you hated each other. although, you hadn't really feuded with him in the past year, but a part of you still found him so annoying. why did you guys hate each other? who knows?
the night goes by quickly, and you are back at home in your bed. your phone buzzes with a new notification.
*kangtaehyun has requested to follow you*
of course you accept, immediately going to stalk his page. no posts, not many followers, and a dull bio... his account must be new, you think to yourself.
after a few minutes of looking at his page, a direct message notification pops up. you open it, and shocked to see that taehyun has sent you a reel.
the video was stupid. it started out by you listening to some guy playing the piano... until you got rickrolled. how mature you thought to yourself. you wonder why he would send that to you, but then you realize...two years ago, you made fun of him for listening to the song (unironically). he then got fussy and tried starting an argument.
from then on you both had always made sure to mock, yell, and argue with each other. couldn't even stand being in the same room.
you answer with a question mark, curious about why he would send that to you.
he responds quickly, with a response that makes you cringe but also roll your eyes.
kangtaehyun: i heard you're a really big fan of this song !
y/n: you're so funny taehyun (sarcasm)... but how could you forget i am a big fan of five seconds of summer?!
kangtaehyun: how can i? they are literally all you talk about. i don't even understand the hype around them anyways.
with this you are appalled, so you immediately respond.
y/n: honestly i think you would like a few of their songs honestly. you should at least try listening to waste the night, you don't go to parties, and more...
kangtaehyun: hmm... fine, i'll give them a try. i'm expecting to be blown away, i'm expecting good things cause of you
y/n: will be expecting a fully detailed report...
kangtaehyun: yes ma'am
immediately you find that entire conversation weird. why in the world did he start conversation with you? wasn't he in some sort of relationship or something? that was the reason you decided to follow him in the first place, you wanted to see if he posted any pics of them. he was so whipped for that girl...
so you decide to leave it alone and go to bed. you wonder if he'll keep his word or not.
you wake up to a text from taehyun. it was indeed very detailed describing the aspects he liked and disliked. he even went and listen to more than you suggested. immediately you respond by saying how shocked you were. the conversation continues, you both talking about types of music you enjoy.
he asks you about other artists you like, favorite songs, and certain performances. he shocks you yet again by watching some of the performances you enjoyed. again you are constantly thinking hard about the situation... you are so confused on what type of game he is playing.
you finally tell your friends, and they immediately tell you to see where it heads. one of your friends saying, "if you realize you don't like him just friendzone him or distance yourself."
you and taehyun talk constantly for the whole week. whenever you get a chance to be on your phone at work, you are either texting him or responding to him. your friends constantly teased you about it. even his friends had found it a bit strange because you two hated each other so much before.
dread has finally settled in. you realize that you like him. and you realize that he probably likes you. he is constantly flirting and makes little ways to poke fun at you.
him saying:
honestly, i don't know why we didn't get along before
and
you are really cool
it gets to the point where he even sends you good night and good morning texts... what are you doing??? at this point, you have told him so much that he probably knows you better than your close friends. the thing is though, you've only texted each other and haven't even seen each other once.
finally he says he is going to show up at your work. but, he brings his friends... which you have an awkward relationship with some of them. beomgyu, who you've had a crush on off and on throughout the years. the others have made slight advances in which you all rejected. finally he shows up to the counter and you just give a slight smile... you couldn't even talk to him. once they made their way out and your friend just gave you a knowing look. what are you doing???
kangtaehyun: why didn't you say anything :( also is everything alright? you seemed a bit out of it.
you decide to come up with some bs response...
y/n: honestly we were really busy and i just wasn't really feeling it. :(
kangtaehyun: sorry to hear that :(
you tell him thanks and decide to leave it at that. you need to think about what you want to do in this situation.
school starts back up again in a week and maybe you'll have everything sorted out.
- - - - - - - - - - -
today is orientation and immediately you spot the pair of boba eyes. you don't sit by him because he is with his friends. you take a seat by you friends and constantly find yourself staring at him.
finally once the long lecture is over you make your way to the hallway. he is already there and you fall in line right behind him. there is no way he doesn't know that you are behind him. someone had said hi to you, so obviously he should know that you are right there. willing to be spoken to.
you've never been able to initiate anything in your life. but honestly right now you were willing to...
"miss y/n you are holding up the line," said the teacher who was dealing with the line. with that you realized that taehyun had disappeared. and once again left confused about the situation.
- - - - - - - - -
the entire month it is the same. you constantly talk to each other online but will act like you don't know each other in person. it is so frustrating. he was the one who initiated this entire thing????
but you decide to let it slide because your birthday is tomorrow. so, with that you go to bed and try not think about as your friends call it "situationship".
you wake up to a bunch of texts wishing you a happy birthday, but you are waiting for one text in particular. taehyun.
once you are driving to lunch, finally, your phone dings.
kangtaehyun: HAPPY BIRTHDAY Y/N!!!!
you thank him and he asks about your plans for the day. once you tell him he responds:
kangtaehyun: i hope you have the best day!! :)
your feelings are growing stronger and you don't know what to do. you think of all of the nice and kind things he says. but, you know that he has also been texting a few other girls. and it makes you feel less special. so, that is why you don't initiate anything in person, because no matter what you do you know you will get hurt in the end.
about a week later, he texts you. in the months you have been texting each other, you talk about the most niche and random things. so it isn't out of the blue that he asks you weird questions.
kangtaehyun: would you ever be interested in playing golf?
you tell him the truth, replying with a no and that sports aren't your thing. he responds with a "fair".
you decide to leave the conversation alone, because taehyun seems to be a bit moody. you ask you friends about the situation, and it turns out you are quite stupid. you completely misunderstood the question.
"he obviously was trying to get you to hang out with him y/n!!" your friend says, basically scolding you. with that you feel absolutely horrible, but at the same time... couldn't he just ask you normally?
the next day you decide to send him something you thought was funny. no response. the day after that you send him something again. no response.
so that's how he is going to deal with it. you decide that things are probably over and you guys are back to whatever you were two years ago.
a month later you and taehyun are involved in the same after school activity. thankfully it'll only last for two weeks but it still isn't easy. everyone was walking around the place you all were at and you were having a conversation with one of his friends.
of course, while you were talking you had said something in a weird way. and while taehyun was passing you two, he decided he would correct you in a passive aggressive tone.
so that is how it is going to be. the least you could say is that you had learned your lesson.
a/n: could you tell i had experience with this type of situation?? haha rip

Hi Shina,
I don't expect you to post this on your page, or answer it, as I understand wanting to keep the drama away from you after everything (and also I really just want to talk to you, but I feel this is easier since you don't even have to acknowledge it, all things considered) - but I want to say a few things myself that I was far too busy and stressed with personal matters to say at the time: First of all, I was mildly fighting against what Indigo was doing. I was, in so many words, in the middle of things when it comes to the whole situation. I thought you did some things that were wrong, but I also thought that Indigo was wrong in some aspects. I still do, really. But you are making efforts to improve yourself, and I think that is literally all anyone can ask for - you're a really great person and a great artist, and I really enjoyed talking to you when I did. I think Indigo should have apologized for their actions, and stopped being so... driven? When it comes to the situation. They were very stubborn, I think. I'm not sure if any of the people who were defending you mentioned that, but I thought it was pertinent to point out. Another thing is: I actually don't even remember unfollowing you? Genuinely, I have no recollection of doing that. I remember waiting for your response and to see how things panned out, since what you had done wasn't exactly worthy of complete isolation and hate. HOWEVER, during the whole thing, I had gone to your page to see one of your responses, and Realized that I was, in fact, not following you. And I didn't want to REfollow you because I feel like you'll think I was being an idiot - and I'm not sure if you could see over the past few weeks but I've been refollowing you, and then quickly unfollowing because I don't want you to think I just suddenly changed my mind - because I didn't, it had always been at this pretty middle of the road stance.
Either way, regardless of what you think, I just want you to know that I hope that you can still enjoy the game, and enjoy your art like you deserve to.
To be human is to make mistakes. To be good is to learn from them - and I could tell that you were and are making efforts.
Hi Lily. I will respond to this.
As I've stated in the posts I really found the silence quite loud. I really want to just talk, not to start drama but to be able to understand, to do what that whole thing was missing.
I hadn't noticed the re and unfollow - I wouldn't find you as an idiot in all this. I would feel a bit disappointed, as I am now by a few folks who decide to silently refollow, esp when I saw a few of them say some very harsh words about me.
However, your decision to unfollow again does seem like a change of mind on just pure theoretical ground since you said you wanted to follow again.
You can if you want though. You don't have to though. It's always your choice.
I admit to the mistakes I had made. They did not. But I never expected them to. And I don't want them to talk further about this matter.
But just because you describe an apple doesn't mean people won't read the note as an apple. And I had seen people call out Indigo on the way they worded my response towards me.
I understand that they wanted to keep the community safe but the fact they had not reached out to anyone involved and questioned them or asked for permission to share their usernames or personal details (where they still got a minor's age wrong) angers me. To say I victimised myself and then start doing it themselves... And then make my crack fanfic into some weird kink fic only because they had seen similar things be kink material when this isn't, which everybody who actually read the fanfic had said...
I really feel there was not enough research done in my case. I hope it was a moment of anger that won over their logic. And they will learn from this experience.
Just like those who decided to judge without any proof will.
Thanks still for reaching out. Good luck with your personal life issues.

omg art i just saw your tags on the animorphs post you rb-d: are you a fellow animorphs fan?? who was you favourite character? which book was your favourite? and what did you think of the ending?
ahh Ari hi!! Yes absolutely I am a fellow animorphs fan! It's the first thing I can remember getting Really Autistic about, actually. I found one of the books in a charity shop when I was in middle school (I just remember it was a Jake POV book) and I have vivid memories of going to my friends on the field during break asking "are you visser three? are you visser three??" and explaining about these shapeshifting kids to anyone who would listen – or, well. More often anyone who wouldn't listen, but I digress. Then in 2021 I downloaded all 54 books and (re)read them over the course of like three weeks, sometimes I was getting through three or four books a day. It sure was A Time lmao.
I imprinted hard on Tobias in middle school (which on rereading I realised was because there was something deeply resonant to me, an undiagnosed autistic child, about how he struggled to be human). I still love him so much, but I actually found myself getting quite attached to Marco on the reread which was? not at all what I expected?? I've literally just seen your post where you quote him on ruthlessness, and I think that actually captures why he appeals to me now. I'm a Big Fan of ruthless characters now and I wasn't as a child, but also there's just this particularly delightful sort of tragedy to his character in that like.. he had to grow up really fast, even before the plot of the books started (as did Tobias and Ax, and they're also my faves so. I think it's obvious I have A Type here), because the way things were with his dad basically parentified him. I also love the comparisons between him and Rachel in the types of ruthless they are; they're both very much of the Do Whatever It Takes mindset, but Marco is the one who plans the What It Takes part while Rachel is the Do It element, and that makes my narrative foil-loving nerd brain go BRRR.
I truly can't pick a favourite book, which I wish I could say is because I loved them all but really it's because my memory is simply quite bad 😔. But! The one where they meet the Howlers haunts me and I think about it regularly.
As for the ending my brain sort of. Breaks. Every time I try to have coherent thoughts about it because there is just So Much going on up there. The two points that stick out to me are the different paths that Cassie and Jake took, and Rachel's death. I loved that Cassie and Jake didn't get a happy ever after-type ending together; Applegate said that the war had changed them too much, and she stuck by that when I think a lot of children's authors would have walked it back for the sake of making readers happy.
Meanwhile Rachel's death felt like it made sense and it fit with the tragic feel of the books, but I also spend silly amounts of time wondering what if she hadn't died. What if she'd survived, how on earth would she have gone back to life afterwards? Could she have? Like, her entire character arc had gone beyond this point of no return; she embodied the war on the yeerks in a way that none of the other kids did, and her death sort of symbolised the death of that war, so maybe she had to die. Maybe it would have been even more tragic if she had lived, and spent years afterwards trying to find something to give her the same rush of adrenaline that she'd come to feel as normal (and even to crave). I don't know. It's an entirely too thorny question for me to ever unravel in a satisfactory way, I think.
But then again, the entire series is one big tangle of thorny dilemmas without satisfactory answers. That's why it's so good.

i literally keep crying today, and i think it's such a mix of emotions, of both the complexities of the holidays, anger at myself/my ex, and gratitude for all the ways my life has changed for the better this year.
i saw some journal prompts about writing down all the bad in a year to release it and then doing another about all the good, and i think... last year, there was so much bad. it was honestly one of the worst years of my life. but this year.... i think the good will far outweigh the bad.
but as far as bad things that happened this year:
i stayed with my ex for a whole month and a half past his dropping the bomb that he's actually NOWHERE NEAR done with his license, when he had led me to believe he almost had it and we could move this year. i stayed even though i was so bored, the relationship made me anxious, i wanted to die, etc.
my first personal trainer quit :( i really liked working with him. but he was working 2 jobs, his mental health was struggling with all the work, he was growing to hate the gym, he was worried he wasn't spending enough time with his girlfriend, he was struggling with most of his clients canceling all the time (like my current trainer does to me now lol), and he mentioned how he was getting paid a fraction of what i was paying the gym to have a trainer. so, like. i was expecting him to quit, and i'm really proud of him for doing what was best for him. but i'm just sad because he was an excellent trainer. he told me he'd let me know if he ever does training on his own again.
i just made a post about this, but my current trainer is... well. idk. when we were set up together, i thought she would be a perfect fit, even better than my last trainer. but then... she cancels so much, she treats me like i don't know things, she repeats herself so much, she does 40 minutes of training when i pay for 60, and all the other things i mentioned in the other post... it's.... i've grown to dread our sessions together.
my horse's old stable.... this was... huge. so, after last year when they were making me out to be a drama queen for telling them that it's unacceptable for them to steal my horse's toys, for them to move her stall without telling me, and all this, this year, they... fired the cowboy who was in charge of taking care of the horses. so. they didn't clean her stall. or turn her out. or even give her all of her meals. i had to go do that even though we were paying them for full care. like, the horror of when i went to go see her on the weekend only to see that her stall looked like it hadn't been cleaned all week... i was FURIOUS. we had to move her because we could no longer trust them to even feed her. i can't believe they're still in business.
loud coworkers who act like you're the problem for needing the office to be quiet in order to concentrate on your work and for not liking to hear shit-talking.
annoying coworkers stay annoying.
people in general treating me like i am stupid.
people trying to put me down and brush off what i am good at/have accomplished.
that one ballet guy who somehow knew where my little brother goes to school... he seemed perfectly nice outside of that, but that was when i was like, okay..... time to find a new ballet studio, lol.
the retinol uglies. those weren't fun. thankfully, they only lasted a month.
i somehow got an STD???? when i went to my yearly wellcheck and the test results came back and the doctor asked about if i'd had any sexual encounters recently, and i was like... only ever with my ex, and i don't even know if we had sex at all in the month and a half leading up to the breakup. so... not sure how that happened, unless he was cheating on me or something.... thankfully, it was super easy to treat, like, it was gone in 2 weeks. but just... how the fuck did i even get that.
my car got a flat tire - which kind of turned out to be a good thing because then it got new tires, and it was likely going to be due for new tires this year anyway.
general mental health struggles, lol
general struggles that come along with not being paid enough to be able to live on your own.
a fantasy photoshoot i had scheduled had to be cancelled because the photographer got covid
i was supposed to go to comic con with another person i'd met the year before, but she left me high and dry, so i had to do the thing alone while also being like... what's wrong with me, she said she'd be happy to go with me, she said she'd meet me here, she said she was on the way, and then... ghosted. so that didn't feel good.
as you can tell, i'm kind of reaching for straws a bit here, lol.

This post is going to be about surgery, but I'll be light on detail.
So last week I had major surgery. It was planned, and should be life-changing once I'm recovered from it. It's a follow up from the first surgery back in May, and there may be two more after this.
At the moment, I ache. That's to be expected. I am, after all, covered in bruising, and painkillers can only do so much. I'm in compression to minimise the swelling, but compressing bruising is obviously not comfortable.
It'll pass. It did last time, and it will again.
What I'm finding hard this time around are the psychological effects.
I spent the run-up to this surgery crying. About anything. On the night before the hospital admission I was considering cancelling the whole thing, which would lose me a lot of money. It made no sense: I want these surgeries; I need these surgeries. What the hell, brain?
I decided to allow the process to take over. Just turn up at the hospital, get admitted, and sit back to let the machinery kick in. Blood tests, covid tests, consultations with surgeons, anaesthetists, and nurses, just let it all happen, and have it fill up all my bandwidth so that I don't have time to cry about random things.
It worked. I'm here, now, the other side, aching but so glad that I didn't cancel. And as I left the hospital yesterday, one of the nurses hugged me, and I burst into tears.
I think this is something obvious, and yet it hadn't occurred to me. Of course life-changing surgery is going to have a massive psychological impact! Of course if I don't deal with that it's going to mug me when I least expect it!
If I wrote a character who was going through all of this, of course I'd explore the psychological impact!
So why hadn't I realised that I would have some kind of emotional response to it?
(The answer, of course, is probably the ADHD. Or the autism. Or that I'm a numpty).
I chatted for ages with another patient who is also going through the emotional wringer for the same surgery, and I honestly sat there and reassured her that of course it's overwhelming, we're literally fighting to get our bodies back from the disease which has taken over our whole lives, and I still managed to not apply my words to myself.
I'm great at fictional emotions, not so great at my own.
So this is me realising that I'll need to chat to a therapist about this before I proceed to the third surgery. And you may be thinking "Well, of course!" but it's necessary to point out that I do have the emotional intelligence of a slug.
Be kind to yourselves, whatever you're going through. Even if you did it to yourself. Even if it's something you have wanted your whole life. It's okay to feel weird about finally achieving your dreams, because the thing with dreams is they seem so unattainable for so long that I think we put them in the "nice to have, but can't ever become reality" box. Dragging them out and having them become our new reality?
It's a lot.
I'm okay, I'm doing great physically, but I clearly have to work through a few things before I start chasing the dream again.
Take care!

After your second kind of a date kind of not a date your very cateful around Techno
Every part of you tells you your being paranoid, but the other knows that theres something he isn't telling you
You know the piglin to well not to know when he's lying
And you care to much to ignore it
Convinced he's done something to upset you Techno doesn't search for your company like he used to
Something both him and the voices aren't very happy about
Being in love is a new emotion for him, he loves Philza sure, he loves Steven but he's never been IN love
He never realized how different those statements were before
Just like when he goes to many days without a kill the voices begin to get louder and louder, only this time he had no idea how to please them
Before he had lost everything he could lose he used to lock himself away during these fits
Know that he knows himself better, and how to control himself, he just goes around slaying any animal that crossed paths with him
Not the most elegant solution but it brought more peace to his mind
Now with no idea how to get the voices quiet he's resorted to quite literally trapping himself in his bunker
He know's your upset
He's convinced himself it's because of him
Theres no way in hell he's going to see you when all he can think about is how good you smell, how your smile makes his frozen heart melt, how soft your skin is compared to his own, how lovingly you adjust his clothes or armour after battle
All the while he scars the stone ground with his claws, chanting mantras alongside unheard voices
It had been a good two weeks since you had heard from the piglin. Not entirely unusual for you, as you rather detested the cool weather up in the arctic. However knowing there was some sort of conflict between you and your best friend made you restless at night, you couldn't keep ignoring him. He didn't deserve that, plus you missed Philza's morning tea, the smell of campfires that clung to everything in his house, the way Steve would bring sticks for you to toss. You missed the magnificent bastards that made up the Antarctic empire. More importantly, you missed Technoblade.
By the time you reached the cabin you had noticed it was unusually still. Steve and Carl were out in the yard, mosing about but there was no sign of Technoblade or Philza. They were both pretty hard workers, stubborn as hell as well, seeing as it was half past twelve you would expect the two of them to be running around doing chores. Surprisingly however it was still, perhaps they had things inside to do? Or maybe they took your suggestion for a lunch break a bit more seriously then expected.
Entering the cabin you call out for them, nothing, looking around you couldn't help but notice how much of a mess everything was. You had only ever seen the house in this much disarray before they traveled, or that time Phil let a creeper into the house and things got fucken wild. But, if traveling was the case why was Carl out front? And why was Techno's sword hung up on the mantle.
And unsettling feeling began to creep over your shoulders as you slowly begin to pick up the clutter. You couldn't come up with a reasonable explanation for things, so you decided to wait until you could come up with one or was given one. The sun had long set before Phil arrived at the house, clearly surprised to find you still sorting through chests. Clearly worried as well.
You turn to greet the man but are quickly cut off, "what are you doing here?" He ushers quickly shitting the door behind him. "I was looking for Technoblade, why is something happening? Is the butcher gang back?" You explain, chest tightening with unease. Something was seriously wrong. "No, no nothing like that we aren't in any danger. Technoblade is having another fit, he's not doing very well at the moment. It might be best for you to leave" Phil warned, his usual cheerful voice dripping with a nervousness you hadn't heard from him in a long time. You wave off the older gentleman scoffing, "Phil you're forgetting I used to go hunting with him I've seen him pretty bad-" "He's locked himself in his bunker. He doesn't even trust himself anymore, he won't eat nor sleep, whatever he has going on in his head is far more then the two of us can handle at the moment" Phil cut you off. You stood in shock, he locked himself away? Technoblade hasn't done that in.. years! What the hell was going on with him.
You wanted to believe Phil was lying to you, that Technoblade was off terrorizing villagers and he was just buying his companion time. But the genuine look of fear in his emerald eyes made your stomach sink. "He's not well Y/N, I certainly don't want him to come back to you dead or injured. He'll come through eventually, just not right now. " The blonde approached you and wrapped strong arms around your shoulders, you hadn't even realized that you were crying until he began to shush you.
"Listen, listen, stay the night here. It's too late for you to travel especially in this sort of weather, in the morning I'll take you back home, I'll let you know immediately when hes better" He assures you, pulling away to cup your face in his hands and wipe your tears with his thumbs. "Let's get you to bed, come on, let's go." Fatherly wasn't something you saw much in Phil anymore, but you couldn't deny how comforting it was, if not a bit embarrassing to have the man tuck you into Techno's sheets before turning out the lamp.
As you lay in the blood God's bed, listening intently to the sound of the howling wind you began to scheme. Something you did best was planning, and this night was no different. You had no idea how long Techno had been like this, if you had the time to curse yourself for avoiding him you would, but for the moment you just needed to make sure he wasn't dead. Slipping from his bedroom and past Phil's you gather a plate of rather light food, knowing he'd get sick if he ate something to heavy.
Stealing one of the Piglins cloaks you shield the food with your arms as you sneak our of the house. You knew Philza only had your best interest at heart, but he should have known better then to tell you your friend was in danger. Especially when that friend was less then a brisk walk away. By the time you get to the false wall your already shivering, the wind nipping at anything it could get at. Your nose was already beginning to run as you hit the disguised button and the wall drops.
At first you see nothing, the darkness and the snow fall blinding you to the scene in front of you. Stepping into what little shelter the cave provided you struggled to steady yourself after stepping on what looked to be the remains of a netherite chestplate. Hung up on the fact that he broke netherite with supposedly his bare hands you don't realize the Piglin lunging at you until your buried in the snow. Plates long discarded and broken you stare the husk of the man you knew in his wild eyes.
Almost like you could read the voices chants of your demise in the pools of ebony fear seemed to strike you harder then his fist. You heard your ribs breaking before you felt them, thank God for adrenaline. You felt nauseous, sick even as you blindly scratch and push at the weight on top of you. Grabbing a tusk by its base you pull left as hard as you can, taking his moment of unbalance to scramble away. Your hands grope for any sort of hold in the snowbank, desperate to get away from the beast on top of you. You dont make it far however before claws tear at the clothes and skin around your ankles, pulling you towards them with little care. Your screams of pain and/or fear are cut short by clawed hands tightening around your throat. Your pathetically small ones meet his, scratching desperately at the exposed hand with one while the other grabs a fist full of snow and smashes it into his face.
The white of the snow falling around you seemed denser then before, you felt cold, to your very bone under him. Under his stare. You've looked death before in the eyes, more then on one occasion, and you had never remembered them being so beautiful. For a split second you swear you hear another voice being carried by the wind, peeling your tear welled eyes from the piglin on top of you the fall towards the direction of the cabin, then at the shards of netherite. You had looked death in the eyes before, and you had yet to die. You weren't going to now.
Grabbing the shard and effectively slicing your hand open in the process you blindly begin to swing. Your chest burns, your skin burns, your vision is beginning to dim to nothing, all you can hear is the wind. Your stabs, or attempts at stabbing does little, with what minuscule amount of consciousness you have in yourself you get one finally blow, to somewhere before you cant feel anything anymore. You had never imagined death to feel so cold.
Technoblade's eyes begin to fall back into focus, pain driving the voices in his head silent as he looks down at the shard of netherite in his arm. More importantly his eyes fall onto a golden ring on the hand belonging to his attacker. A bear etched into its surface. That was Y/N's ring, he had given it to her for christmas. Anger flooding his chest he grinds his teeth, hands tightening around their neck. What right do they have to be wearing your ring? Dark eyes fall back down onto their attacker, bloodied and bruised.. and Y/N. His heart sunk faster then an anvil in a lake, scrambling backwards from your limp body he cant decide whether to look at you or his hands covered in your blood. No, no it couldn't be you, you were.. you were mad at him why would you come up? Why would you attack him?
Crawling to his side he lifted you into his arms, inspecting you closely. This had to be some sort of trick, some sort of lie? No, no you would never attack him you loved him, he loved you! That's why he was like this he was like this because he loved you! Scared lips began to quiver, and tears began to fall and subsequently freeze to his cheeks. No, no, no.
He couldn't think, his mind flooded with the screaming of the voices in his head, begging him to save you, to help you, to hold you. For once in his life he didnt know how, he couldn't save you. He had always been your knight in shining armour, and he cant save you.
He can't save you.

ACOTAR Gift Exchange - I Know pt. 1
Happy Holidays!! This is my contribution for the wonderful @acotargiftexchange for @nesgoddessofdeath!! I hope you enjoy this as it's fully made me team Elucien, and since it's the first time I've written fanfic in god knows how long :) and I kept changing my mind on everything until literally yesterday. This actually going much more in depth than I thought and I continue to keep changing my mind on the second half, which is why it'll be broken out into two parts with hopefully the second part posted next week!
Summary: After months of writing to each other, Lucien and Elain finally meet again that this year's Solstice celebration. Will the months of getting to know each other without the physical aspect of the bond change anything for them? Or will they go find themselves back to awkward encounters and missed opportunities?
Word Count: 2,532
-----
Elain blinked as the laughter in the other room brought her back to the cookies laying in front of her. How long had she been day dreaming? The icing on the cookies was almost solid, and a hint of warmth from them said she hadn't been in her own world for too long.
Especially since no one had popped their head into the room to see what had been taking her so long. Which was a blessing, because she didn't want to lie and say she'd been having a vision - and even then, it had been ages since she'd had one of those.
And if she told the truth...
No, she didn't want anyone to know she'd been thinking of this evening - of him. Didn't want to deal with any of the questions that would come from that.
This Solstice would be the first time she saw him in person since... since running into him in the halls of the River House months ago after he visited to give Feyre and Rhys an update on progress in the Mortal Lands and in Spring Court.
He had seemed even more withdrawn in that moment than Elain had ever seen him, as though the weight of everything he carried had been crushing his shoulders for so long that he was nearly to the point of breaking under it all.
And though she still felt awkward around him, though she didn't know how to dance around the thread that tied them together without losing herself entirely, she wanted to offer some sort of... something. Anything.
-
"Elain," he greeted, giving her a slight bow.
"Lucien," she returned, inclining her head towards him before dropping her eyes. If she looked at him too long, if she allowed the part of her that craved him to take hold for too long, she wasn't sure she'd be able to keep her resolve.
But he didn't deserve it. Look at him. Look at herself.
They could continue to dance around it, and it would continue to eat them alive.
He stared at her a moment longer, before nodding more to himself than towards her.
"I was just about to take my leave," he said, giving her a forced smile before continuing towards the door behind her. "Good day, Elain."
Elain's heart fluttered as he passed. If she let him pass, let him leave... who knew when the next time she might see him. She couldn't let the opportunity pass again, even though she herself didn't know what she truly wanted from him.
"Lucien-" she nearly gasped as she whirled around to face him before realizing she had no idea what she would say. He had turned to face her as well, clearly not expecting for her to continue any attempts at a conversation between the two.
Which was her fault. She had no illusions about that.
Which also meant it was up to her to lead the way forward.
"How..." Elain scrambled for words that could appear casual enough to cover the nerves coursing through her. "How are things?" Good job, Elain. How are things? she cursed at her poor attempt to keep him from leaving so soon. Though, if he noticed, he didn't show it as he adjusted his stance to show his full focus was no longer on making as quick of an exit as he had initially planned.
"Things are... well, things are much as you'd expect them to be, I suppose," Lucien replied. His hands folded behind his back, the gesture formal but not as... stiff as it might have once been. Elain's own hands were grasped in front of her, wringing her fingers together as she tried to navigate this new territory between the two of them.
"So, not that good then?" she asked, a wry smile on her face that brought out a mirroring one on Lucien's.
"Unfortunately," he confirmed. He hesitated as though he was debating how far he could press his luck with this conversation. And Elain couldn't blame him - he didn't know how determined she was to melt the icy wall she had built between them.
If Nesta could do it, then certainly Elain could at least try.
"The Mortal Lands are doing as well as they can in the wake of everything," Lucien continued, and Elain kept a conscious effort of not letting her eyes trail from his. She couldn't let the butterflies in her stomach continue to make him think that the reason she couldn't look at him for long was because of him. "And Tamlin is... Tamlin."
At that, Elain couldn't hide her wince. Though she truthfully had few to no real interactions with the High Lord of Spring beyond the night he claimed her sister, that in itself was enough to confirm everyone else's views of the male. But Tamlin had once been Lucien's friend as well.
"I suppose some things don't change," she said, perhaps the best way to acknowledge Lucien's statement without sounding hostile towards mention of the male that had changed the sisters' lives so irrevocably.
Not that she wouldn't mind the opportunity to give the High Lord a piece of her own mind. Especially with his recent treatment towards her m-
"Indeed," Lucien replied, a more genuine if slightly smaller smile gracing his features. Elain was overtaken in that moment by how handsome he could truly be. Even in this brief moment, his stature had changed from forcibly holding himself straight against the invisible weight bearing down on him to almost casual but hiding an energy he hadn't seem to experience in she didn't know how long.
"I am afraid, unfortunately, that I really must be leaving now," he continued, and Elain could see in his eyes that he was nervous to break this tenuous something between them that hadn't been there before.
Elain didn't want it to break either.
"It was good seeing you," she said. Truly, it was. She could feel him - hear his heartbeat - constantly, even when he was across the island in the Mortal Lands. But still, it reassured her to see that he was still going on despite everything that had happened both before she had met him and everything that had happened since.
"And you." He gave her another small smile and a bow, as he turned once more to leave. Even though she knew it would happen, that this moment would end, her heart raced as he reached towards the door.
"Lucien," she interrupted his exit once more. "How... would... well, I was wondering-" Pull yourself together, Elain. Lucien turned back towards her once more, removing his hand from the door handle to give his full attention towards her and Elain had to keep her knees from buckling under the intensity of his gaze. The soft smile he offered her encouraged her to find her words and continue.
"I know that... that we haven't- that we don't really... know each other that well," she began, cursing herself again for how poorly she was phrasing her words. Elain dropped her eyes from his gaze, unable to hold it as she tried to get the words - the feelings - out of where she'd been holding onto them for so long. He deserved to know how she felt. Her fingers were beginning to ache from how hard she squeezed them to try to alleviate some of the tension she was feeling in that moment. "And I know that that's been my choice. That it's- that it's been hard, ever since..."
"I know," Lucien said as she trailed off and her gaze instantly snapped back to meet his eyes. "I understand."
Elain felt herself deflate at the clear defeat she could see Lucien attempting to hold back and her heartbeat quickened.
"What I mean is- I know you have to- you have duties, and a job and that takes you from the Night Court," Elain continued, not allowing herself to drop his gaze again. She took a step closer towards him, still a respectable distance away but enough to show her concentration on Lucien in this moment. His gaze turned curious as he waited for her to finish what she started. "And I've been meaning to ask- well, for a while now but this is the first real chance I've - that we've had - to see- to talk to each other and- would youwanttoexchangeletterswhileyou'reaway?"
Elain couldn't place the look on Lucien's face immediately following her rushed question, and the silence after seemed to stretch and she couldn't hold his gaze anymore because he was going to say no, that this was a stupid idea, he was going to say that it was too little, too late, and he had already moved on with another female he had met during his travels and why would he continue to wait on a wo- a female who hadn't given him the time of day over the past few years and maybe he would let her down gently or maybe he would-
"You..." Lucien began, and her eyes snapped instantly back to his own. What was he thinking? She wasn't familiar enough with the thread between their souls to be able to read it. "You would like to write to each other?"
A blush creeped along Elain's cheeks as she realized how insignificant this gesture could appear. Surely, exchanging letters as a method of getting to know one another was too human to be truly meaningful to Lucien when their souls were already tied together.
But no. No, she wouldn't second guess this.
If Lucien had ever really cared about her, he wouldn't mock her in this even if it didn't match Fae mating customs. She wasn't even sure if it wasn't, as her the only mated couples she knew were her own sisters and those were most definitely not examples of a typical mated pair.
"Yes," she answered, resolved in her desire. Lucien could reject her, as he had every right to do. But she wouldn't do it for him.
"Yes, if you like," she said, holding his stare. "I would like to get to know you."
Elain couldn't name the look in Lucien's eyes as he replied, "I would love nothing more."
-
Tonight would be the first night they'd seen each other again since that last meeting. Months had passed, letters exchanged about any topic under the sky they could think of.
Some letters were as simple as updates on Lucien's work as emissary or Elain's progress with her baking skills or garden.
Some would contain stories of their lives, like the time Jurian and Vassa convinced Lucien that it would be a good idea to use his flames to make Vassa's entrance to a delegate meeting even more dramatic.
Others would give each other pieces of their pasts - Elain's childhood always being the buffer between Nesta and Feyre or Lucien's memories of walking the grounds of the Forrest House with his mother.
A few would find them focusing on their deepest wishes.
Lucien's desire to have a home that couldn't be taken away from him.
Elain's need to feel loved and accepted even without a smile on her face.
Nuala and Cerridwen were the only Night Court members who she had told of her letters to Lucien, and helped the two with their correspondence. Whether Lucien had told anyone about them, or whether the twins reported to Rhysand or even Azriel of their assistance, she wasn't sure. She could safely say neither of her busy-body sisters had found out as evidenced by the lack of either of them cornering her.
Which would be quite the interesting conversation that she wasn't sure she really wanted to have.
It was safe to say however that Elain was excited to see Lucien again, whereas previously she had anxiously dreaded his visits, though last time the anxiousness had been for a completely different reason. She hoped Lucien was also excited to see her, though she didn't know how they would respond to each other now in person that they had already bared their souls to each other in their letters.
After all, letters were much more easier - at least to Elain - to be articulate and ensure she could say everything she wanted to.
But being surrounded by her family - his friends - would throw another variable into the mix when they thought Elain and Lucien couldn't bear to be in the same room together.
Which would definitely be an interesting conversation that was certain to happen tonight.
More laughter in the other room finally spurred Elain to grab the now finished tray of carefully decorated cookies and make her entrance just as Nesta and Cassian took seats on the sofa nearest the table Elain was now heading to place the cookie tray - no doubt purposeful so that Cassian could be the first to try her newest recipe.
Smiling, Elain greeted her sister with a quick kiss to the top of her head as she passed, grateful that they had been able to work through everything that had happened recently to be able to enjoy each other's presences. Placing the tray on the table behind them, Elain turned to survey the scene in front of her.
Nesta and Cassian casually relaxed on the sofa, Cassian's arm thrown around Nesta to keep her close to his warmth. Feyre was closer to the fire, helping Nyx play with some of his new toys she seemed to have let him open earlier this evening. Amren and Mor were gathered around the dining table while Varian shared a story about that year's Summer Solstice. Rhysand and Azriel were huddled in a corner, locked in a game of chess that didn't seem to be progressing at any sort of speed as they weighed each move.
Even seeing Azriel didn't hurt as much as it might have previously, the thought of everything that had transpired between the two becoming just another footnote in what was soon to be a very, very long life. Something that she was still getting adjusted to thinking about.
The only thing missing was announced by a knock at the door before it opened, revealing the person she was truly anticipating. She could feel her sister's no-so-subtle glances at her, gauging her reaction as her mate entered the room.
She paid them no heed. Couldn't even remember why she had initially thought of continuing the facade of icy indifference as her eyes locked onto his, a small smile much more genuine than her usual, everyday mask, greeting him and once again mirrored on his face.
"Lucien!" Feyre exclaimed as he entered, clearly noting Elain's different reaction to the male but not able to bring attention to it in the moment, and a chorus of greetings from the rest of the occupants accompanying her.
It was as though Lucien couldn't hear them, couldn't see them or acknowledge them, as his eyes were still on Elain's.
"Happy Solstice," she greeted, quiet but loud enough that he could hear the words solely intended for him. His small smile grew into a joyfully smug smirk, as he replied loud enough to be intended for the room but his focus was entirely on her.
"Happy Solstice."

There are exactly three things wrong with Percy's current living situation.
1. He has far too little lounge space for his terribly long body. His shins have hit the coffee table six times today in his attempt to maneuver from sitting on the couch to standing.
2. The spare bedroom is not a good enough sound quality for his guitar or his drum practice. The bathroom is much better. He cannot practice in his bathroom forever, or ever.
3. His neighbour is undeniably, completely distractingly hot.
He hasn't allowed himself to rate the problems in order of most troublesome because he's a little ashamed about which one might take first place.
Since moving in one week ago Percy has had many opportunities to arrange and rearrange every aspect of the tiny two bedroom— or one bedroom and a makeshift studio— apartment until he could walk around it blind. He knows not to step on the third floorboard from the left wall on the way to his bedroom because it creaks unpleasantly and he thinks his downstairs neighbours are going to shove a hot poker through the roof just to brandish the annoying foot that keeps making the noise. He knows that the oven setting has to be juggled just right for it to go on. He knows the curtain railings in the living room are far too thin and brittle— he will have to replace them before the month is out. He knows you have to turn the hot tap in the shower three times and the cold tap four to get the exact perfect temperature. What he doesn't know, however, is his neighbour's name, or the colour of their eyes, or anything about them. All he knows is that they're hot.
But today, bruised shin and all, Percy is determined to introduce himself. If for nothing else but to gauge just how upset they might be when he starts up what his mother used to lovingly call "Melodic Madness".
So far it takes the reign as number one reason he's had to leave his previous living spaces. Mr Chiron from Strawberry Valley, who told the landlord the noise was so loud it made his steel kneecaps rust. Creative, but Percy isn't sure it's feasible. Then there was Minerva from Olive Grove who took one look at him and told the landlord he was a drug dealer, or worse, a drug user. He had raised a brow, couldn't stop his lip from tugging up, liking the way the ring that hugged his bottom lip stretched deliciously. He almost killed her on the spot. He would have laid lillies at her funeral and she would have risen again to throw them away. The last place, a Mr Hedge. Percy was glad to leave him behind. There were baseball bags swinging and yelling almost as loud as he played every time they crossed paths. For his own safety Percy didn't even wait for the man to call the landlord before he wad tucking his drumsticks in his pocket and high tailing it to, here.
Here being Sunset Gardens. Here being in this small apartment that fit him almost perfectly. Here being one knock away from meeting his new neighbour.
Percy wonders, as he looks at the soft cream wood of the door, if he should have worn a turtle neck to hide the snake tattoo wrapping around his throat. Or maybe a button down and a tie, to hide the swirls of ink on his arms. The black t-shirt he has on, a normal longer length to his usual cropped look, is clean and soft from use. He decides it'll have to be good enough because he can't wear button downs all the time. How ever will he afford all the ties that come with the obligation?
Percy knocks on the door.
There's silence behind it. The silence of sleepy world, too cozy-can't move. The silence that doesn't wish to be disturbed.
The door opens.
His neighbour's eyes are blue. Bright blue. Startling blue. Blue enough to make his lungs feel a lack of oxygen. He's reaching for the sky and it's getting harder to breather the higher he gets.
"Hello." Says his neighbour.
Percy is flying closer to the sun than Icarus ever will, ever could.
"Can I help you?"
He needs to stop staring. He needs to say something that doesn't make him look like a gaping angel fish. All starry eyes halos and floundering for relief from the air. Do fish know how beautiful the sky is? He imagines if they did they'd all kill themselves trying to get to it. He's doing it right now.
"Hi," He grins. Teeth white, straight, flossed because his mother forced him to learn the habit. "I'm Percy, your new neighbour."
"Jason," The voice is warm, deep. He knows if he lay his head on that spectacular chest he'll feel every vibration when this blue eyed spectacle talks. It'll be like getting into a really nice car and feeling the seats rumble beneath you.
"How are you finding the apartment?"
They're still standing on his door front. Jason won't relent his sanctuary. Percy won't toe over the line, curiouser and curiouser as he is.
"Good. Living room is causing some bodily harm," He waves to his shin, "But otherwise very good. Cozy."
"We share a wall. I don't know if it's your bedroom and mine or..." His neighbour trails off.
"It's my spare bedroom against you." They both glance to his door, light from his lounge flooding the passage in a perfect parallelogram.
"That's actually what I wanted to talk to you about." He's looking into the sky again. Watches as hair falls over that golden forehead. His hands— tattooed "amare" on his left fingers and "amari" on his right— twitch to push it back, to grasp the white strands, to know what light feels like. He tucks them into the pockets of his sweatpants. He tells them behave. The twitch in their hiding place. He doesn't let them seek.
"What about it?" Jason is frowning, in that worried way that says he's used to bad news and he's tired of it too.
"I uh," Percy's eyes flicker around the world. "I play guitar and drums. I'm using that room as my music room."
"Oh." The relief in Jason is a pointed arrow straight at his heart. Even cupid could never shoot something so potent. "That's okay. I'll use your music as inspiration when I paint."
Percy is Icarus three seconds after he believes he can fly. Percy is Patroclus when he feeds Achilles. Percy is Hercules after completing his first trial. Percy is a hero and a warrior and the luckiest person alive. Percy is alive.
"I hope you're good." Jason shrugs as if he hadn't tattooed a permanent place into the underside of Percy's ribcage.
"I hope so too." He manages to say back.
"I'll show you what I can create from you the first time and you can judge." Those blue eyes are so wide with innocence. Not the innocence of life but of words. His neighbour has no idea what he's doing to him. Has no idea that he is about to go home and make song lyrics out of all these declarations.
"I look forward to it." He smiles wide. It's ocean deep with happiness.
There are exactly three things perfect about Percy's current living situation:
1. The kitchen has a gas stove enough counter space for him to make bread and his mother's gumbo
2. His bedroom is big enough for him to fit a king sized bed easily. He is a sprawler when he sleeps and he cannot be happier to sprawl across never ending expanse.
3. His hot neighbour is perfect.

I woke with a start, immediately feeling my hair sticking to the nape of my neck and the need to shake off my duvet.
The fear of my nightmare still implanted in the pit of my stomach made me reach for my bedside lamp. I half expected someone to grab my hand in the dark, my imagination working overtime to scare the living hell out of me, but nothing happened except for the lamp turning on.
I sat up in bed and took a few deep breaths, trying to calm my racing heart. It was just a dream, nothing real. And I knew that, logically, since I was in my childhood bedroom instead of a dark torture chamber. Yet I couldn't stop crying and imagining the worst.
It was getting worse – the nightmares, the anxiety, the nausea. Ever since Daisy and my mum had told me to see a therapist, I knew it was getting worse, but I still hadn't done anything about it. Clearly, things had to change.
Barely thinking about, I found myself grabbing my phone and dialling Daisy's number. I hadn't spoken to her since she came over, and it was my fault things had been left on a bad note. That was only last week and I felt like an idiot as I heard the phone ringing.
"Hello?" her groggy voice came through, and I immediately felt bad.
I swallowed the lump in my throat as I tried to silence my heavy breathing. "Hey, Daisy. It's, er, it's Y/N. I'm sorry, I– I didn't mean to wake you. I–"
"Y/N?" she asked, voice laced with fatigue and confusion. "Are you okay? What is it? Where are you?"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to worry you," I said quickly, trying to maintain my shakiness. I brought my legs up to my chest and wrapped an arm around them tightly. "I'm at home. I just–" I flinched, closing my eyes. "I'm sorry, did I wake you? My parents gave me your number and I– I didn't know what else to do–"
"You don't need to apologise," she cut me off, wakening up a little by the sounds of it. "I'm glad you called. What's wrong?"
I smiled dryly, wiping away at my tears. "I, er, you were right about me. I should have–" I breathed out deeply. "I need to talk to someone about... yeah. But right now I... I can't go back to sleep."
"Do you want me to come over? I'm not far and–"
"No, no!" I said quickly, slightly embarrassed. "You don't need to– it's the middle of the night. I just– I don't know what I was expecting. I just didn't want to be alone and I didn't wanna wake my parents and worry them."
"Of course," she said reassuringly. "It's okay. I won't come, but I can stay on the phone with you if you'd like? We can talk. Or we can just stay silent. Anything you want."
I sniffled and put my head between my legs, feeling my shoulders relax a little. The last thing I wanted was to be a bother to her.
"Thanks," I muttered, and I wasn't even sure if she heard it. "I'm sorry for how I acted last week... with this."
"We don't need to talk about it," she said softly, her voice raspy as she'd just woken up. "I just want you to be okay."
I closed my eyes, breathing out quietly. I wasn't sure what to say, but the sound of her voice was instantly reassuring.
It was quiet between us, for at least another minute or so, and all I could hear was her breathing on the other side. As much as I appreciated the company, I knew it was unfair of me to keep her on the phone.
Swallowing hard, I said, "Daisy?"
"Yeah? Are you okay?"
I rubbed the bridge of my nose, knowing I wasn't. "I don't think–" I sighed awkwardly. "I won't be falling asleep any time soon and I– er, you should go. I don't want to keep you on here for no reason."
"It's not for no reason," she reassured. "I'll stay on until you fall asleep, Y/N. You'll get tired eventually."
"But if I don't–"
"I'll stay on."
I nodded, despite her being unable to see me. "Thank you..."
It went quiet again, and I felt my heart rate returning to its normal pace as I distracted myself with the sound of Daisy's breathing. It wasn't hard to tire myself to the sound, as I was already exhausted, just scared. But when I closed my eyes and let her breathing comfort me, it almost felt like she was right next to me, and my fear slowly faded away.
When I woke up the next morning, I was drooling on my phone screen as the sun streamed through my curtains. When I wiped my mouth, a yawn escaped my lips and I moved my phone from my pillow, confused to why it was there. But then I remembered the early hours of that morning and felt my face flush with embarrassment. I checked the screen, seeing the call wasn't still on, but there was a text from Daisy.
Daisy: hey, Y/N, I hope you feel better in the morning. I figured you wouldn't want to wake up to me on the phone, so I hung up. Please don't be angry, but I'm on my way over to see you. I just want to make sure you're okay.
That message was sent fifteen minutes ago, so I wouldn't put it past Daisy to already be outside. It was embarrassing, don't get me wrong, but I appreciated that she cared enough to check on me, even after I'd treated her disrespectfully.
I'd just managed to brush my teeth when Daisy arrived. My mum called me downstairs, claiming it was for me, and I tried not to fidget in my pyjamas as I descended the stairs and saw Daisy waiting by the front door. When she saw me, a relieved smile was on her lips.
"Hey," she began quietly, hesitant to say more in case I was mad.
I exhaled slowly, shoulders relaxing at the sight of her. She'd helped me more than she'd known, and with that thought in my mind, I moved forward and hugged her gratefully.
"Thank you," I whispered into her shoulder, closing my eyes as my arms laced around her neck.
She returned the hug and I sensed her surprise.
"Anytime, Y/N," she replied with a squeeze. "I just want you to be okay."
I nodded, lingering for a moment longer than I probably should have, before pulling away. She searched my eyes with a hint of concern and I subconsciously grabbed her hand and kept ahold of it.
"I'm gonna book an appointment with a therapist," I told her, the thought terrifying me in itself, but I knew it was the right thing to do. "And I wanted to ask if you... would you..." I swallowed hard, suddenly unable to meet her eyes. "Will you please come with me?"
"Of course I will," she promised, squeezing my hand and earning my attention. "I'll be with you whenever you want." She blinked, clearing her throat with realisation. "I mean, for the appointments, obviously."
Thankfully, her messy words brought a smile to my face and reassured me about the whole therapy thing.
"Thank you," I said, finding it cute how she was the one to avoid my eyes now. "Since you're here, you may as well stay for breakfast. If you're not busy, that is."
"Breakfast. Sure. I'd love to."
I didn't let go of her hand as I tugged her towards the kitchen to join me.
Having Daisy back in my life was probably the best thing to happen to me in a long time.
Not only had she literally saved my life as Quake, but she was also saving my life every day after. Whether it was accompanying me to my therapist appointments or hospital appointments, or hanging out with me way more than she needed to, she was more present in my life. I didn't ask her to – it only began when I'd asked her to come to my first therapist appointment – but she'd chosen to. And I didn't want to question it because I'd missed her more than I cared to admit.
My parents took her in as family like no time had passed and I was accepting her back into my life, too, but I didn't want to get too attached. She had a job to do at the end of the day, and knowing Daisy, she wouldn't stay for too long. I guess, in the back of my head, there was still that expectation of her picking up and leaving, just like she used to. Which was silly, since that was years ago, but still...
Despite her presence in my life again, we'd been avoiding talking about what we'd missed in each other's lives. The specifics anyway. I knew she joined S.H.I.E.L.D. and found her family, and she knew I became an investigative journalist and did many news packages on different topics, but I didn't know anything more and neither did she. I wasn't sure if it was on purpose or if we just avoided it without thinking, but I knew we had to face the music soon.
We were getting coffee after she picked me up from one of my therapy sessions when I brought it up.
"So, my therapist has been helping me with some stuff," I began, staring at my coffee as we walked back to my house. "Stuff outside of my PTSD, that is."
"Oh?" Daisy asked, and I could see her looking at me in the corner of my eyes. "Like what?"
I took a sip of my coffee, trying not to feel embarrassed as I answered, "Well, we obviously talk about my life. And what happens in it. Who I'm with..."
"Yeah..." Daisy was grinning now.
I rolled my eyes, wishing my face wasn't as warm as it felt. "She noticed you've been dropping me off and picking me up and... you may have come up in conversation."
"Ah, so you talk about me," she said slowly, trying very hard not to laugh. "Did you tell her how amazing I am? Or how beautiful, charming and funny I am?"
I sighed, finally lifting my eyes to look at her. Brown eyes twinkled with amusement as she gave me her usual teasing smile, making me shove her in the shoulder gently. Laughter spilled from her lips and I hated the butterflies in my stomach at the sound.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," she said, falling into step with me again. "You were saying. Go on."
Looking back ahead as we walked, I said, "Yes, well, we talked about you. And then she recommended that I try to catch up with you more. You know? Because we both talk so much about the good old days and even now, but not the in between. Not the parts that we weren't there for."
I looked back to Daisy when I finished, and she thankfully lost her amusement as she nodded in agreement. I half expected her to take the piss, but she was supportive as she glanced at me.
"I like the sound of that," she said, easing the nerves in my stomach. "So. What do you want to know?"
I cleared my throat, taking another sip of my drink and thinking of where to start. "Okay, erm... why don't we start with your S.H.I.E.L.D. friends? They're your family and I would love to get to know them better. What are they like?"
She nodded thoughtfully, sipping her coffee. "S.H.I.E.L.D., okay. Well, you met Jemma. She's basically my sister. Her and Fitz – I think I mentioned him before?" I nodded, recalling her throwing in the name in one of her stories. "They're together and they've been with me since I was recruited a few years ago. We've been through a lot together, but they've got my backs and I've got theirs."
I smiled at the carefree expression on her face. Just talking about them put her at ease and I felt a little better knowing that her time after high school wasn't completely terrible like I imagined.
"Then there's Coulson, of course," she continued, glancing at me every now and then to see if I was listening. "He's basically our dad. He's the reason I'm even with S.H.I.E.L.D. and he's always looking out for me, even when I'm doing stupid stuff."
"So, regularly then."
She nudged me in the arm at my comment, making me chuckle.
"He was how I learnt about my family," she explained. "There for me when I found them. When I got my powers. When I lost my family... he's been there through it all. I'd do anything for him."
I watched her carefully. "He sounds important to you."
Her lips curved into a small smile as brown eyes met mine. "He is."
She continued to tell me about the rest of her team and what everything was like at work, and the whole time she did, she was smiling.
"I'd love for you to meet them all," she finished, and I was surprised at the hint of nervousness in her voice. I didn't think she ever got nervous. "I mean, you've met Jemma, but the others– you should meet them, too. If you want to, that is."
"I'd like that," I said instantly, appreciating the way her eyes lit up and she tried very hard to hide her smile.
She cleared her throat, distracting from the pink spreading on her face, before asking, "So, you basically know about everything interesting that's happened to me these past nine or so years. What about you? Anything life-changing occur for you?" I opened my mouth to answer, and she added, "Apart from travelling around the world and being an investigative journalist?"
I feigned offence. "I hardly think that's fair. That's like me asking you not to talk about working for S.H.I.E.L.D. or being Quake."
Rolling her eyes playfully, she said, "Go on. Tell me something different."
I looked away from her in thought, thinking back to the past nine years. "I guess... oh, I know. I was almost married."
Her jaw dropped. "You were what?"
A laugh escaped my lips at her intrigued expression. She shook her head with disbelief.
"I have to know more," she insisted, before raising her brows. "You? Almost married?"
"It does sound strange," I agreed with amusement, before recalling the event. "It was about two years ago. I was with this guy who worked at the same paper I did. We'd been together for about a year and–"
"–and you realised he had a second family in the Bahamas?" she finished with a roguish grin.
"Very funny." I narrowed my eyes jokingly. "But no. I just realised I didn't love him. Well, I wasn't in love with him."
"Ouch."
"Ouch indeed." I paused, remembering the poor guy's face when I broke the news to him. "It was a month into the engagement when I told him the truth. He was very understanding, but–"
"–but you broke his poor little heart," she concluded, before wrapping an arm around my shoulder and tugging me closer. "Dear Y/N. The heartbreaker."
"Fuck off."
She laughed when she saw me attempting to fight a smile from my lips. Though eventually, one appeared anyway. Daisy always had the ability to bring out the best in me like that – I'd missed it.
"How about you anyway?" I asked, hoping for an opportunity to tease her in return. "Any boyfriends or girlfriends I should know about? Crazy exes, maybe?"
She snorted, swallowing her coffee before giving me a knowing look. "You're gonna need to brace yourself for this one. I doubt you'll believe me when it comes to this."
I rose an eyebrow with curiosity. "Damn, you've got me hooked, Johnson. Proceed."
And of course, that was the first and last time I heard about Agent Grant Ward. An interestingly dark tale of a dickhead of a man whose existence I was glad was no more.
"...so, do I win?" Daisy asked once she finished talking about him.
"Win what?"
She stared like it was obvious. "The best ex story, duh!"
"Wow." I snickered, shaking my head. "I guess you do."
Fist-pumping like an idiot, she said, "Knew it. Nothing ever beats homicidal psychopath almost-boyfriend."
"You need help."
"No, no I don't. I have you."
"Uh-huh."
"Love you, too."
Three months passed since returning from Myanmar and I was finally in a place where I could return to work. Even though I'd been putting together my research and interviews into a coherent news story at home, I hadn't physically been back to the newsroom in about a year.
My therapist had been helping me to treat my PTSD, my physical therapy was helping me get back function in my shoulder and arm, and the injury itself was almost healed, though I still had to wear a cast. Everything was actually beginning to look up.
I'd even sent off the complete news series about what I'd discovered in Myanmar to my editor which got published just before I returned to work. So, of course, as soon as I got there, that was the first thing everybody congratulated me on.
"Views have been going through the roof," Taylor, my colleague and closest friend at work, said as soon as he spotted me walking to my desk. "Your story is all anybody has been talking about!"
"Good to see you, too," I joked, an attempt to disguise my embarrassment at all the attention. "It's only been a year since we last saw each other."
He gave me a grin. "You know I missed you, Y/L/N, get over here."
I rolled my eyes playfully but accepted his hug, being careful of my shoulder. He squeezed me gently before letting go and perching himself on the edge of my desk as I took a seat. It felt strange to be back, but a good strange.
"I still can't believe you're actually here in the flesh," he said after a moment, eyeing me suspiciously. "I've been so used to quick calls and texts where I try to convince you not to do stupid stuff."
Chuckling, I shot him an appreciative smile. "You know I'm grateful for that. Even if I didn't listen."
"You not listening helped you get the best story though," he countered. "I bet you didn't expect S.H.I.E.L.D. to make the bust in the end though."
I sighed, shaking my head. "Definitely not. But I owe them a lot. They saved my life."
His expression softened. "That's another thing... thanks for not dying on me."
"You're welcome," I returned, though appreciated what he meant. "Now. Catch me up on everything I missed. Gossip an' all."
That was enough for him to pull up a seat and remind me of everything I'd missed whilst being away. We'd spoke many times whilst I was gone, but nothing quite beat a good bitching session in person.
Eventually though, our editor ended up interrupting and asked to see me in her office. I wasn't worried in the slightest, but there was still that tiny part of me that imagined the worst.
"You can stop holding your breath, y'know," Karla told me when I stopped before her desk. She seemed amused as she added, "I wanted to congratulate you on the human trafficking story."
Relaxing my shoulders, I raised my brows. "Oh. I– thank you. I'm glad you liked it."
"You put a lot on the line to get the results you did, but it shows," she continued proudly. "You've made an excellent name for yourself and done your fellow journalists proud."
"I didn't do it for that," I said politely, "but thank you. I just wanted to help those people in Myanmar the best I could."
She smiled. "And you did."
"Well, S.H.I.E.L.D. did."
"But you shared the truth, didn't you?" she reminded me. "Don't belittle this achievement."
I didn't know what to say, so I stayed quiet and watched as she took a seat at her desk chair.
"I heard that it was Quake who saved you back there," she said curiously. "You know, we've never actually gotten an interview with her. Nobody has."
Oh, so that's what she actually wanted.
"I thought, well, since you know her, you could get us an exclusive?" she asked.
I chewed on my lip. "Erm..."
"You don't have to," she added, noticing my reluctance. "But it could be good for everyone. The city can get to know its hero, you can get a great interview under your belt. And our paper gets all the views. What d'you say?"
I was beginning to regret putting that one quote from Daisy in my article now... I should have known Karla would want more. That was the thing with editors – you give them one taste and they want to eat the whole thing.
"I'll ask," I decided, which she seemed to love. "No harm in asking, but I can't promise anything."
Karla leaned back in her seat, nodding. "Very true. Thank you for understanding. I'll let you settle back into work now. Remember to take it easy, yeah? Don't want to lose my best journalist from overworking herself."
I smiled awkwardly as she laughed, before nodding in response and leaving her office.
It wasn't that I didn't want to interview Daisy, but I didn't want to ruin what we had by asking for a favour. Everything between us was going well, even if it was probably temporary and she'd have to leave soon. I assumed that anyway. And on top of that, I was certain I was falling in love with her again, just like I had nine years ago.
Could you blame me? It was impossible to just remain friends with her when she went through all this extra effort to make sure I was okay. Her kind, considerate, supportive self was always on my mind whether I liked it or not. A girl could dream, right?
After my first day back, Daisy picked me up outside. She insisted when she rang me at lunchtime to make sure I was okay, wanting to know everything about how my first day went. I couldn't find it in myself to say no, so I eventually found her sat on a chair in the lobby when I came downstairs after work.

Exothermic - chapter fifteen
Amalthea vs The Wolves
Tumblr media
"Isabella Whatever-the-Fuck-Your-Middle-Name-Is Swan, get in this car right fucking now!"
previous chapter
809 words
═ ∘♡༉∘ ═
The mans eyes never budged from Bella's, and Bella returned the favor.
Thea pretended to only notice Sam now, "Oh shit, it's the part time stalker, full time cult leader Uley! What's up, man! Hey, is tiny Uley dead? Mr. Huber is gonna have my ass if he makes us miss the deadline." The elder brother ignored the girl, keeping his focus on making sure Paul doesn't shift.
Amalthea noticed he refused to acknowledge her existence, and resorted to flipping the finger up at him.
Embry Call attempted to stifle the laughter threatening to escape when she spoke about Trevor, only breaking when she gave Sam the finger. Amalthea winked at the boy, attention returning back to the others when she noticed two of the five boys begin to convulse.
As quick as lightening striking down a pole, Bella Swan swung a fist at Paul Lahote. Jaw dropped and owl-eyed, Amalthea immediately took to cheering on her cousin.
"Yo- Oh my god, Bella-- girl. I wasn't being serious, well no I actually was-- but I really wasn't expecting for you to take me serious! I'm so proud of you-- he def deserved it. Amazing job, beloved cousin of mine!" Thea congratulated, smiling brightly at her cousin. Of course this was the first time Bella Swan saw her cousin actually smile. She couldn't help but find herself grinning back.
Both smiles drop when the man convulses heavily, looking particularly cross. Jacob pushes Paul as hard as he can, sending him flying backward.
"Jacob." A gruff voice spoke. The shoved man rises once again, more outraged than before. He threw his head back and growled roughly, beginning to vibrate violently.
'Did he just fucking growl? The hell is he-- an animal?' Thea thought as she looked perturbed, concerned about how nobody else was inquiring why a man just growled.
A yell broke her train of thought, "Bella, get back!" Sam shouted to her cousin.
The shaking man had fell forward, making it halfway to the ground when a loud ripping noise sounded. The man was no longer a man as he exploded into a massive wolf, silver-gray fur standing up as he crouched and prepared to spring.
"What the fuck!" Thea yelled out, terrified at the animal positioned in front of her cousin, ready to attack. "Bella get the fuck in the car right now, I swear to god!" The girl pushed open the drivers side door, waving for attention, eyes not yet leaving the wolf. Bella was utterly horrified when she grabbed Jacob's arm, attempting to pull him toward the car.
"Run, Jacob!"-- Only Jacob didn't listen, yanking his arm from her grasping hands and running right to the wolf in front of them. He dove headfirst into the air, causing for another tearing sound, and producing shreds of cloth that fell to the ground from the jump. In place of Jacob Black was now a gigantic russet-brown wolf.
Bella reeled and fell onto the hard ground below her as the two wolves crashed into one another. All that could be heard was snarling and clashing of skin. It was all rather deafening.
Amalthea felt buzzing in her ears as tears began to build up, her entire body was shaking with anxiety. 'Bella and I-- we're going to fucking die. We're so young. Bella's friend is a fucking wolf. Bella wasn't wrong. The size of cars, they are. Car-sized wolves were going to kill them and nothing was going to stop it.' A million thoughts raced in Amalthea's mind as the two wolves fought, teeth reaching for each others necks.
Thea didn't even know who to root for. Most definitely not the guy trying to kill Bella. That's a given. But not Jacob, solely because he's a flakey bitch. Though, he did just turn into a huge, terrifying wolf to stop the gray one from murdering Bella! Still not rooting for him, Thea decided.
Bella finally stumbled backward, back still to the car as the fight between the two wolves carried them into the woods, beyond the clearing.
"Isabella Whatever-the-Fuck-Your-Middle-Name-Is Swan, get in this car right fucking now." Amalthea spoke, terror seeping into her quivering voice as her eyes hadn't left the clearing the wolves disappeared into. The sounds of the fight still painfully penetrated her ears, allowing for panicked thoughts to brew. What if they came back?
Stalker Uley kicked off his shoes, starting after them.
"Take Bella and the other Swan to Emily's."
Sam disappeared into the woods, paying no mind Amalthea's remark, "I have a name, bastard."
A long, eerie silence surrounded everybody, before the boy who laughed with Amalthea before spoke up.
"Guess the wolf's out of the bag!" He grinned, attempting to lighten the somber mood.
Neither girl was in the mood, Bella still stunned in shock as Amalthea threw a water bottle at him.

fresh paint 一 danganronpa oneshot
𝐒𝐘𝐍𝐎𝐏𝐒𝐈𝐒: byakuya moves in with nagito and kokichi, and realizes it may not be as bad as he originally thought. THIS IS NOT THE FULL ONE SHOT.
𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐑𝐄: fluff
𝐓𝐖: none
Tumblr media
From the moment that Byakuya Togami stepped into his new home, the sun peeking in through the windows, he knew he'd never find another moment of peace in his life. He'd never feel real happiness again, and all chances & hopes of becoming a better person quickly diminished. He would never feel content as long as he lived inside these restricting walls.
Okay, maybe he was being dramatic. He had bought the house, after all, and he wouldn't have done so in the first place if he hadn't been 100% sure that he was ready to accept any & all consequences that came with the purchase.
A small boy with purple hair shot past him, cheering & whooping as he danced around the empty house. "This house is mine! I rule over everyone here!" he chanted over and over again, laughing maniacally.
Byakuya sighed. Nope, he didn't think he was being dramatic at all. Kokichi Oma was the most annoying person he had ever met, & now here he was, living with him. Why did he ever agree to do this? Because he wanted so badly to be under the same roof as the boys? Seemed unlikely, but he wasn't going to dwell on it any longer.
Nagito Komaeda walked in after Kokichi, holding a big, brown box in his hands that was labeled Kitchen & Living Room (⅓). He smiled sheepishly at the shorter boy hopping around, walking over to the island and placing the box down on top of it. He inhaled the scent of the new house and turned to Byakuya. "Heh, I still can't believe you agreed to this. We thought you were going to shut us down on the idea almost automatically."
Byakuya shook his head, flabbergasted. Why did Kokichi have so much energy, and why did he feel like it'd conveniently drain right when the time came to unpack? "I'm starting to think I should've. I'm already getting a migraine." Nagito laughed softly, and the two made their way back outside to the moving van to retrieve more boxes while Kokichi hummed loudly to himself as he frolicked aimlessly around the house.
During that period of time, Byakuya allowed his mind to wander. He hadn't expected for himself to agree to such a foolish proposal so easily. Obviously both Nagito & Kokichi hadn't expected the sudden approval either, for their mouths were on the ground when they realized that the Byakuya Togami had actually decided to go along with their usual "brain-shrinking" plans.
It had slipped out of Byakuya's mouth before he could even blink. The idea of living with Kokichi and Nagito, despite having been friends with them for a good amount of time, was foreign to the heir. In fact, even living with someone sounded absurd to Byakuya. He only needed himself and himself only, or so he thought. Yet, his sudden agreement came so quickly that it had to have meant something. Byakuya wasn't normally impulsive; he did everything with practiced precision. So an abrupt answer that he didn't back down on even after how shocked he was...it meant he was progressing as a person, as a friend. Somewhere. Somehow.
Oddly enough, that was comforting.
During their fifth trip to the house (the boxes were surprisingly heavy), Kokichi waddled up to them and pointed down the hall towards the rooms. "We still have to pick out our rooms! Who's claiming the biggest one?"
"Me, obviously," Byakuya replied, tone as cold as ice. "I bought this house." Kokichi mocked him, raising his hand and opening & closing his fingers together every time the heir spoke, like a sock puppet but without the sock.
"You probably just got it handed to you," he replied teasingly. "Fine, then I get the second biggest room!"
"The other rooms are all the same size." Byakuya's comment made Kokichi huff, while Nagito lightened up a little bit, almost as if he was dreading being told he was going to get the smallest room. Byakuya didn't doubt it.
"Could you help with the boxes, Kokichi?" Nagito asked, taking off his parka and tying it around his waist, wiping the back of his hand over his forehead with a long sigh. Byakuya had to hand it to him; he too had discarded his overcoat. The boxes were harder to carry than he originally believed, and his muscles already felt strained. He was so used to people doing things for him that being independent now all of a sudden was exhausting. Kokichi groaned.
"Do I have to? I'm feeling tired," he asked, laying down on the floor and pretending to fall asleep. Byakuya was right. Kokichi had energy until it was actually needed. Nagito sighed, walking back out of the house. Byakuya chose not to press the matter, instead shooting the purple haired boy a glare and following Nagito out. He heard another loud groan, and then the pitter-patter of footsteps. "Guys, it was a lie! I'm not actually tired. I can help just fine."
Kokichi joined the expedition to get the boxes inside. Within one hour, they had made all their trips, and they were close to death by the time they were finished. Even the water they drank didn't cool the sensation of heat licking at their bodies every time they stepped outside. And when Nagito reminded the two other boys that they still had to unpack everything, Byakuya decided to hire people to do it for them.

note: well, i hope you liked this small excuse of a post! i absolutely adore all three antagonists (emphasis on togami), and i thought this AU i thought of randomly was the cutest thing ever. if you don't understand really what's happening, or if you would like to know more, let me go more into detail for you!
i'm writing an antag AU that will be posted to AO3 soon. the three main antagonists (byakuya, nagito, & kokichi) move into a house for literally no reason other than they want to. along the way, they grow closer, have fun, & most importantly, develop as people and as friends. it's all just lots of fluff and chaos, and i wanted to write it because i couldn't stop imagining the power they have as friends. there will also be naegami, saioma, and komahina every so often bc i said so :)
they can also be read as standalone oneshots, which is why i'll be posting snippets of the chapter i'm working on every now and then. it's not out yet, but it will be by the end of the week, and i'll be sure to post about it as soon as i can!
i am open to critique, as long as you are not too harsh. thanks for reading! <3
UPDATE: it's out! read it here :)

orange and gold
...I just need more Cole and Vania content, they seem like they'd be great friends.
Basically it's just 'Cole goes to visit her there, they almost burn down the kitchen, and make way too many puns', lol.
Set a few months after Master of the Mountain, but before Seabound or The Island.
Also yeah, I couldn't think of a better title, sue me- I just know that they wear one of the colours at some point, so... 🤦‍♀️😂
Trigger warnings: none I think? Huh-
Also, bingo!! I really need to learn better time management, dear freaking gosh- I hope I'm not too late though? I know it's like half a day late, eek- and I was supposed to post this earlier, but I ended up literally falling asleep while writing it😂
Thank you so much Fabro, for hosting such a cool event!:D Your comments on my fics literally never fail to make my day<3. And I'm so glad that I met so many awesome, really skilled people through this event too - it's been a lot of fun working alongside y'all:D, I wish I'd had more time to interact instead of posting stuff and vanishing lol, but exams be like:////
Prompt: cooking (does baking count as cooking? I realized too late lol-) from @ninjago-bingo 's warm board.

Trying to escape from killer dire-bats hadn't been on Cole's to do list today - although the mountains were kind of beautiful.
It was a bit difficult to see them while he was being dragged to his death, but hey, didn't Jay always tell them to be more positive?
That was, until he made the mistake of looking down.
Miles of snowcapped mountains touched the pastel blue sky, but he was more focused on exactly how high he was from the ground.
Great.
Trying to swing back onto the Bounty, he didn't notice a golden-winged blur shoot past the bat, almost dropping their spear in haste.
"Let my friend go, or I'll-"
"Vania?"
She throws the spear at the bird, successfully knocking one of its wings.
Huh. She must've been practicing - throwing with accuracy while flying seemed kinda difficult.
"I'm so sorry!" she replies, grabbing his arm before he fell down too. She winces at the strain on her wings, almost dropping him onto the deck. "I was supposed to come earlier, but there was an issue with one of the mines, and it took forever to-"
"There ain't anything in this world that's managed to kill me yet," he replies jokingly, checking that the autopilot hadn't been damaged. "I doubt an angry bird is going to be the first."
"Didn't you mention that you became a ghost once? Pretty sure that means you were dead-"
"Shh, that's not an important detail," he jokes.
"If you say so," she replies with a grin. "Did I mention that Chompy's been tearing down the palace flower arrangements again?"
"Send my regards to the gardener-"
"Did you just make a pun?"
"Remind me why I decided to visit you again?"
"Because you love me?" she asks stepping onto the ground as the Bounty landed gently.
"I hereby crown you as my platonic soulmate," Cole deadpans, taking her hand. "Vania and Cole-"
"Destined to annoy each other for eternity," she giggles, swinging their hands up and down. "But seriously - thanks. I don't think I realized how much work being a queen was."
"What's it like?"
"I mean - I'm glad that people trust me, and they come to me if they have a problem, but the paperwork is a nightmare. I never get to go outside anymore, I swear."
"Paperwork? Also, you just invited me here for a week. I don't wanna disturb you?"
"Nah, I cleared my schedule, don't worry. And trust me, you don't want to know. Everything requires some sort of official written thing, and it's so boring-"
"Official? But you're the queen?"
"Well, yeah, but I don't really want to change something unless it benefits the people. Not after..."
Her smile dims, eyes straying to the palace walls.
Oh- oh.
"You're nothing like him," Cole says firmly, squeezing her hand. "I mean, if you need to take a break, or you can make your job a bit easier by cutting out something unnecessary, that's just gonna help you become a better queen. You've definitely got the interests of your people at heart, and that's the most important thing, you know? And well, uh, everything seems to be going great so far - you don't have to beat yourself up over someone else's mistakes."
"Thanks," she replies softly, her smile slowly returning. "Speaking of breaks, what do you think we should do this time?"
"You could show me around the city again?"
"You've already seen everything cool," Vania giggles, skipping ahead of him. "We don't renovate much - unlike you guys-"
"Hey, it's not our fault that our city gets destroyed every few months-"
"More like every few days," she teases, tying back her golden hair. "How about we find some dragons to adopt?"
"Tempting, but where would you keep them?"
"They could sleep in my room-"
She breaks off when she notices him laughing. "What?"
"N- nothing," Cole replies, in between laughs. "Jay and I just made a bet."
"On what?"
"How many dragons you've adopted. I bet at least six, he bet fifteen."
"Well, jokes on both of you - I'm pretty sure my advisor's going to throw a fit if I show up with another one," she starts, giggling. "We've got twenty living in the palace right now."
"Twenty dragons?"
"They're so cute! You just look into their adorable little eyes," Vania pauses for breath, continuing her animated gesturing, "and you can't help but wanna hug them!"
"Oh, Jay's going to be so mad."
"Aww, I'm sorry guys. They're just too adorable!"
"...Wanna hear a funny story?"
"Yeah, sure!"
"I actually used to be terrified of dragons-"
"No way!" Vania exclaims. "Y'all have been on a lot of adventures though, so-"
"Nah, we used to have our own dragons at first. They were pretty cool! I just- I'm a simple guy! Huge animals with wings are scary up close when you're barely a teenager."
"Or when you're really short-"
"We're the same height!" Cole exclaims, facepalming in a bit of a fondly exasperated way.
"I'm two years younger than you-"
---
"Ugh, whose idea was this?"
"Yours," Vania grins, sitting down on the kitchen counter.
"You were supposed to help me, not leave me high and dry!" Cole accuses jokingly, staring at all the appliances they'd found in the cupboards.
"'One must always be prepared for new adventures,'" she quotes seamlessly, waving one of- what was his name again? Mulch something? Oh! Clutch! Some explorer he was, leaving them to die in the pyramid - Clutch Powers' books in the air.
"Fine," he sighs, staring at the old recipe book she'd found in one of their back cupboards. "But you've gotta help me? I almost burned down-" "Woah, what? If you finish that sentence with 'kitchen'-" "In my defense, Kai was playing a prank on me-" "In my defense, I wouldn't like to explain how the queen of Shintaro burnt down the palace by teaching one of her friends to cook," she grins, flipping through the pages. "What do you wanna start with?" "Something simple?" "Have you ever tried baking bread before? It's a lot of fun!" "I haven't really had the time, but that sounds kinda interesting."
He skims the recipe, raising his eyebrows. "Wait, why does this take hours? I thought you said it was simple?"
"Trust me, it is," she laughs, adding, "besides, I still wanna hear about all your adventures!" "Uh... okay," Cole replies hesitantly, "but if this fails, I'm so sorry." "Give yourself some credit, you guys literally saved the world! Multiple times!" "Bold of y'all to assume we know how we did it," he laughs, only half-kidding. "Besides. I botched soup once."
"I've botched toast," she mock-sighs, smiling. "Pretty sure that makes us even."
"Lemme get this straight. You've messed up toasting bread, but you can bake it from scratch?"
"Trust me, I don't know either," she giggles, trying to open a brightly coloured packet of... something? Did flour come in packets that small?
"Uh, why are you opening something called 'feast'?" he asks, eyebrows creased in confusion.
"Feast," she echoes, trying to stifle her laughter. "Off to a... rocky start, aren't we?"
It took him a second.
"I already regret this," he jokes, facepalming. "But I'd say that your puns are, uh, gold."
"I've un- unleashed-" breaking off, she half-falls off the counter, laughing so hard her face starts to go red, "a monster."
---
"Uh, is it supposed to look like that?" Cole asks, frowning.
The mixture looked less like the dough he'd been expecting - more like one of Jay's inventions gone wrong.
Badly wrong, he thought, eyes widening at the goopy mess of foam that threatened to spill over the jug.
"The yeast?" Vania echoes, poking her head out of one of the cupboards. "Yeah, all good! It always looks a little gross, and you're gonna doubt ever eating bread again, but at least it doesn't taste like it's fermented-"
"It's what?"
"Yeah," she grimaces, exaggerating her disgust a bit. "If aliens ever fell from the sky, they'd think we were crazy for eating bread-"
"Aliens? I think we're a bit crazy!" Cole exclaims, trying not to laugh.
Vania smiles, then sighs, lugging a huge bag of flour onto the counter. "I can never open these bags properly," she starts, eyeing the the bag a bit warily, "and it always makes such a huge mess all over the kitchen. You'd think they'd make it easier for people to use, right? I swear-"
He jokingly puts his hands over his ears. "I can't hear you!" "But you know that I've sworn off swearing-" she replies, breaking off with a laugh. "Pun not intended - that actually made sense in my head. I swear!"
"No," Cole interjects with a grin, shaking his head. "You don't, remember?"
"See, this is why we're friends-"
"Friends? Is that all I am to you?"
"Oh, be quiet," she shoots back, exaggeratedly dragging a hand down her face. "I mean, sure, just because everyone thinks that we're dating doesn't mean that we-"
Wait. What?
"People think that we're dating?" he asks, clamping a hand over his mouth in a poor attempt to muffle his laughter. "I- I- really?"
"I know, right?"
"Even my friends thought so at first," he confesses, dragging a hand down his face. "I mean, as much as I love you-"
"I love you too," Vania replies, completely seriously. "Even if you'll always be more like an annoying-"
"Hey-"
"Sibling to me than anything else," she finishes, grabbing a pair of scissors. Cole watches, a little alarmed, as she stabs them into the flour bag over and over.
"Is it... supposed to be this difficult to just open the bag? Seems kinda stupid-"
"Well, er, they have this piece of paper with glue that you're supposed to pull away from the rest of the bag, but it never works properly and I-"
"Well, we could always make our own flour," Cole interjects, laughing. "I mean, I've got a scythe? Let's go!"
"Uh, but we don't have wheat growing here. I don't think it'd suit the climate very well?"
"Wheat a shame," Cole sighs jokingly, measuring out the flour (which had, finally, escaped the bag).
"Oh my gosh," Vania deadpans, "you did not just-"
"Yep, I did."
"You're horrible," she giggles, "then again, I was the one who started this whole debacle, so I think we'll share the blame."
"Debacle? Where'd you pick that one up from? Sounds kinda cool-"
"Oh, it's from a book someone wrote about you guys," Vania says casually, pouring a cup of water into the bowl.
"Hey, uh-" Cole starts hesitantly, twisting his fingers back and forth, then breaks off. "Why'd you read all that stuff about us, anyways? Adventure books don't really seem like something you read a lot, since we have similar favorite books. I mean..."
"Well, um..." Vania trails off, clearly uncomfortable. "Uh- I guess, well, it sounds kinda stupid, but I'd never really met anyone my age who wasn't a royal or something. I... er, I didn't want to be left out, you know?"
Cole thinks back to a scroll; a quest, a sacrifice. One that his friends never seemed to really notice, unless it was with horror or flinches. Not that he blamed them, but - joking about how he was much more useful to the team when he was freaking dead than he was before he'd stumbled and fell in the temple?
That had been a bit far, even for his best friend. Locks could always be picked or something, he didn't need to be a ghost to provide some sort of value-
Well, that's not completely true, is it? a small voice questions, and he can't keep his hands from shaking a little.
"Jay here thinks you're the least valuable ninja."
Not enough to be a performer. Now, not good enough to even be a ninja, apparently.
Well, he reminds himself firmly, you don't have to be the best - just stand up to those who are cruel and unjust.
Nothing but a scar that glowed warm orange occasionally left of the whole Cursed Realm ordeal, sometimes it was all too easy to forget - or pretend - that it had never even happened in the first place.
Other times, like when he'd dropped a glass of water on the floor and his hands hadn't stopped shaking for hours, or when he woke up screaming, expecting to fall through his bed again, it still felt like he was trapped as a ghost. Literally - and maybe a little figuratively as well.
Yeah. Yeah, I know.
"Thanks for trusting me with that," he replies softly. "And I'm sorry. That sounds... horrible, but, honestly, you're a pretty cool person, and I ain't just saying that because we're friends. People can be awful, and they can- they can leave, but you don't need to pretend to be someone you're not for people to accept you. I kinda know what it's like, and it's... just, uh, not great."
"No, thank you," Vania says, rubbing her eyes. "You're pretty cool, too. And I'm glad that we become friends, even if wasn't in the- the, er, greatest circumstances."
"Right back at ya. The fall was pretty terrifying, though," Cole says casually, as if memories of that nightmarish plunge into the depths of earth don't still send shivers down his spine.
"No, definitely! I was so sure we were gonna splat onto the ground or something, thank gosh we didn't."
"Yeah..." Cole trails off, reading the recipe they'd been following. "Oh- do we just leave the bowl somewhere for a few hours now?"
"Oh, yeah," Vania answers. "Other than clean up the kitchen, what else do you wanna do?"
"That's kind of you, but, ah, I don't mind. You can choose something."
"I don't mind either," she replies, covering the bowl with a dishcloth. "Seriously, I don't."
"Same here though."
"Really, I don't mind-" Vania breaks off with a laugh, adding, "Well, actually, there is something."
She doesn't elaborate, thoughtfully gazing out the window.
"Well, what is it? Don't keep me in the dark."
"Ugh, it's kinda stupid-"
"I'm sure that it's not- well, unless you want to try to jump off a flying ship with a homemade parachute to prove a bet to someone-"
"Do I even wanna know?"
"...uh, probably not. We're way too crazy sometimes, our Master has a hard time keeping us in check. Your thing, though?"
"Can I give you a hug?"
Cole blinks for a second, expecting some sort of punchline.
"That's your thing?"
"Well, yeah- I mean, I said it was kinda stupid-"
"No no, that's not what I meant. You're so sweet - that's all."
"Well, not more than you-"
"Nah, you're sweeter-"
"Let's just call it a tie," Vania says with a smile, reaching over to give her friend a hug. "Thank you so much, I swear- well, no, I don't, but you know, anyways-"
"Yeah," Cole replies, laughing softly. "I know."

Part 7
" 911, what's your emergency?"
"Yeah, um, I have a guy in the back of my carriage who got his trouser snake caught in his zipper."
"Sir, is this a joke?"
"No, but, this guy sure wishes it were"
"How serious is this?"
"Let's just say, it was the 'frank..and...beans', then something popped, now its just the frank."
Poor Bertrand, all he wanted was to give his sweet Savannah a wonderful birthday. Now he's stuck in the back of a carriage with his manhood on the line.
He is aware of the news reports of a wild boar attack on Contess Madeleine earlier tonight and that said boar is still holding itself hostage inside his estate. He has no idea if his son is okay, but, has no doubt his brother is somehow responsible for the carnage that has taken place this evening.
Hospital ER
Riley and Olivia sit in Maxwell's room, waiting for him to return from radiology. They had only seen him for a few seconds before he was taken for x-rays, but, he appeared in good spirits; then again, when is he not.
They were both intriqued to find out what he meant by "the demon pig", that supposedly caused his predicament. It was surprising to hear Maxwell describe any animal with such disdain, but, apparently he met one he wasn't prepared to describe as a "life changing experience" in fond terms.
Riley jumped up from her seat, "Maxwell, you're back!"
Maxwell was wheeled back into his room on a stretcher, but, he seemed to be uncharacteristically subdued now.
"How is he? Is it broken?" Riley asked the nurse.
"He has a hair line fracture and will be down for several weeks, but, we don't expect complications. Someone will be in shortly to put a cast on him. Also, congratulations on the baby your majesty", the nurse stated before exiting.
That was the fourth time today a random person congratulated her.
"Why does everyone keep congratulating me on a baby? I wonder if it was the bean burrito I ate for dinner last night?", she questioned while patting her bloated tummy.
"You do look a little puffy today." Olivia observed.
"Thanks", Riley said while rolling her eyes, "I have been trying to drink more water and..."
"HELLLLOO!!" Maxwell interrupted in an annoyed tone, "In case you hadn't noticed, I'm here."
"Oh, I'm sorry Maxwell, how're you feeling?", she asked with concern.
"Like a demon pig attacked me, without warning, without cause, out of no where...it was a sneak attack Riley." he began to shake his fist furiously and yelling, "damn you demon pig.....damn you to hell!"
Olivia and Riley tried to calm him down. "Maxwell, Maxwell, shhhh, you've got to calm down." Riley pleaded, "you're going to disturb the other patients."
"Yes you are", Madeleine chimed from a wheel chair at the door with an icy stare.
All three turned their heads in her direction simultaneously. To see Madeleine sitting there with a neck brace on, a black eye, messy blonde hair and a ripped green dress; it was shocking and amusing to say the least.
"What the hell happened to you? Olivia asked with her signature scowl.
"Oh, what happened to me?", Madeleine asked with a smile that didn't quite meet her eyes while patting her chest, "ask Maxwell and his quote 'damn demon pig'."
Olivia and Riley turned to Maxwell trying to make sense of what both were referring to as the demon pig.
"Maxwell, I'm two seconds away from breaking your other leg. What happened?", Olivia spat out.
Maxwell took in a deep breath and recalled the events of this evening.
"Okay...Okay, so, yesterday morning, I was attending Zeke and Penelope's outdoor animal exhibition in the capitol.  Zeke was giving me kind of a private tour before all the guest arrived. We came upon a stall that he said had a wild pig. I thought he meant it was a party animal, wild like me, which, would be an awesome addition to the next Beaumont Bash. I asked if I could have it and he said no, that it was just too wild for me. I thought, nonsense, nothing is too wild for me. I just had to have this pig. So, when I seen Penelope a little later, I offered to buy it from them. She was a little hesitant at first, but, she agreed after I forged a letter from Bastien saying Liam requested this particular pig at the next Beaumont Bash. In exchange for her cooperation, he would emcee her next Dog Fashion Show."
"Maxwell! That's sick", Riley blurted.
"Yeah Maxwell, what made you think she would just go along with that?" Asked Olivia.
"I wasn't sure she would, but, she does seem to respond well to requests from Bastien, so I assumed it would work this time too", he replied.
Madeleine spoke up, "so let me get this straight, Penelope, can't stop talking about her poodles, Penelope, just gave you a wild boar?"
"Oh, no, I had to pay for him", he said.
"How much?" Olivia asked.
"A box of dog treats", he replied.
Riley bent over in her chair, arms resting on her knees, covering her face while shaking her head, "Unbelievable....I'm afraid to ask, but, how did you get him out of there and to the estate?"
"Well, that part was tricky. Penelope told me I had to keep him enclosed or he would go wild. Well, I wanted to make sure I kept his wildness in until the Beaumont Bash. I figured it would just build up inside of him and he'd really let loose at the party",  he chuckled, "anyway, I saw Gladys there and thats when I got the idea for her to cause a disruption..."
"Hold up, Gladys...my majordomo, Gladys, helped you with this?" Riley asked stunned.
"Kind of, see I knew she had cleared the hallways when Anton and his minions kidnapped you and Olivia. I also knew she had the hot's for Bertrand, so, I told her if she would create a distraction for me, I would set her up with him".
"Maxwell, your brother is engaged", Riley stated.
"You are a lot more evil than I ever gave you credit for Maxwell; this is really elaborate for you", Olivia remarked with astonishment.
"Well, Im not proud of myself, but, greed causes people to do evil things" he replied.
"Hold up" Madeleine would interject, "So Penelope knew about this? That little....I just saw her not more than an hour ago at the Beaumont Estate, she interviewed me and everything, she never mentioned her hand in any of this".
Maxwell replied, "I would say not, Penelope's a master at keeping secrets while seemingly innocent of her involvement. She's a sweet girl though".
Riley just continued to shake her head.
"What happened next Maxwell?" Madeleine asked.
He took another deep breath, "Okay, well Gladys started screaming and running around the exhibits. Then she unlatched the pen holding the ducks. They started to scatter. Zeke and his assistants started to chase after the ducks and security went after Gladys. I grabbed a large cage and Gertrude ran right in. Penelope helped me carry him back to the limo and I took him home."
"Okay, how did you break your leg?" Riley asked.
"Welp, the driver helped me unload Gertrude and get him in the backyard. I knew I had to build an enclosure to keep his wildness in, so, I started building a small barn for him to live in until the bash. It didn't take very long to build at all. When it was finished, I opened the cage door to let him inside his new dwellings, but, he ran inside and immediately jumped out the window."
"You put a window in it?" Madeleine questioned.
"Yeah, but, I must've not built it high enough and I didn't put a covering over it. Jumped right out of it" he said while use his hand to motion the jump, "I started to run right after, I swear, I heard it say 'kill Maxwell'. It attacked so quickly, I never had a chance. I stepped on a rock and my foot went sideways, causing me to fall. It rammed me a few times, before running off. Then Drake came out to help me, but, it attacked him also. Let's just say, demon pig-2, Maxwell and Drake-0."
All three women sat in silence. There were no words they could think of in that moment to express what they just heard.
"Does Bertrand and Savannah know about this?" Riley asked.
"I don't think so", he replied.
Riley took out her phone and sent a text, letting them know Maxwell was in the hospital and Bartie was there with Drake.
Meanwhile, in the bathroom....
Drake and Liam were still locked in arms, literally, fighting over an ascot.
"Let go of my ascot Drake."
"Liam, he has to have something covering his bottom until we get a diaper."
"Then give him your denim shirt!"
"What?" Drake gasped, "take it back Liam."
Bartie, who was still lying on the changing table naked, took this opportunity to settle the issue once and for all.
"What the hell!" Drake shouted as his denim shirt was getting soaked.
"Sir Walker, I do believe you have a spot on your shirt", Liam said with a British accent and a laugh.
Drake looked at Liam, "I hope you're happy now. He just pissed all over my good denim shirt."
Liam raised an eyebrow, "Drake, that's the only denim shirt you have, or wear for that matter."
"Why do you think it's my favorite?" he remarked sadly.
Bastien cleared his throat, "Your majesty, need I remind you, we can't leave this bathroom with a naked baby. It may be in everyone's interest for you to hand over the ascot."
Liam thought about Bastien's words for a moment, then looked around to see if there was anything else that could be used as a diaper. Wadded up hand towels, too flimsy, Drakes white shirt, no, he would just be shirtless in a hospital, his own socks, no, too small. He let out a loud huff, reached up and removed his ascot.
Drake reached out to grab it, but, Liam continued to cling onto it. Drake pulled harder, Liam pulled back even more.
"Give me the fucking ascot Liam!"
Liam pouted then handed Drake the ascot.
Drake looked Liam in the eyes and said, "Dude, you need therapy."
Drake began fashioning a diaper out of Liam's ascot. "Aha, perfect fit".
"What do we do about that disgusting car seat?" Liam asked.
"After all this, just leave it in here. When Bastien opens the door, we make a run for it."
Drake picked up Bartie and he and Liam stood at the door, readying themselves for the getaway. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting, shit was on the floor, the walls, the trash can, not to mention, the sink had an exploded diaper full of diarrhea in it. Liam couldn't risk someone seeing the King of Cordonia coming out of that room.
"Alright, on my count, Bastien will open the door and we will run as fast as we can."
"Hang on", Liam said as he removed his suit jacket and covered the top of his head so no one would recognize him. "Okay, ready".
"There's no turning back now. 1...2...3...Go!"
What hijinx await in Part 8?

june
It's june. everyone says this every year, but its crazy how we're almost done with half of the year.
I've just came back from my third and final A/N, and it's back to normal shift for the next 2 weeks and 1.5 days. I never expected to resign so early on as after all, I'm bonded for 4 years. I feel like I've been dealt with a get out of jail free card.
Why med school
I feel like I've come back from A/N with a new pair of lens. And I don't know if it's just me, that I've become more acutely aware of these things, but I see that the world is getting sicker and sicker. In both a literal and non-literal sense. The A&E is always full. There are never enough beds, doctors, and nurses. And the people are genuinely sick and hurt. It's heartbreaking. I know that I can also do my part and serve the patients as a Pharmacist. It's a respectable and valuable calling. But here's where it gets sensitive - after working as a Pharmacist in a public hospital for 2 years, I honestly don't think you need that many Pharmacists to function. If push comes to shove, you can certainly make do with lesser Pharmacists. But lesser doctors and nurses? The system will crumble. I think that if you the ability and the passion to be a doctor, you should definitely do it. Is it a moral obligation? I'm not sure yet - I haven't come to that conclusion. But for myself, God has gifted me with the knowledge and skill in science. God has also blessed me with the passion to heal the sick. Is it fair, and is it God-honoring, if I choose to do otherwise?
Tumblr media
Spirituality
I'm also feeling like I'm growing closer to my CG. Initially, I felt a little bummed that I was placed in one where all the members were so young. Most of them were going to uni/in uni age. Only a few were my age or older. But then I realized that this is where God wants me to be. God knows what is best for me, even when I don't. As I approach this new season of going back to school, I realize that being with people who are too, in school, is not a bad thing at all. It seems like the perfect place actually. It's strange, I don't know how to explain it, but I know that God is working and God is on the move.
Health
You know, I am so thankful for God. God has also healed with me. Don't think I mentioned it here but recently I went for a follow-up appointment at NSC. I didn't want to go initially but I felt like since my company will be paying for it and since I'll be resigning soon, I might as well go for it to take some free meds. But to my surprise, apparently the doctor thought my eczema was not that great and he wanted to start me on immunosuppressants. He also gave me the option of phototherapy. I was quite taken aback because like girl, I only came here for free meds y'know. Thank God I said no to the immunosuppressants and chose phototherapy because the nurse who did the counselling session with me actually unintentionally made me realize I didn't even have a need for it because I wasn't even compliant to my topicals in the first place. So I've started using them religiously for the past few weeks and my skin is SO much better now. So, thank God. I prayed to God to heal me, and heal me He did.
Relationships
I decided to add this part in because I thought I had posted about it a while back, but I actually hadn't. I probably posted it as a private post but I can't be bothered to go and find it and I don't think I penned it down in a nice and clear way, so I'll try again.
Recently, I went out with someone because he had asked me out. It was a very nice date. Good, kind, God-fearing Christian guy with a job and all, good looking, tall, he even has a house and a car. Where's the catch? Well we're separated by a 13 year age gap. I guess it really wouldn't be a problem for some, but I know for me - I want kids and all, and realistically that can only happen after finishing med school and residency. So I'll probably only have kids when I'm in my mid thirties. And he'll be fifty? I think that's quite hard.
It is a sucky feeling. Despite how nice and good looking people tell me that I am, I'll always feel like the short, quiet, chubby, shy girl from secondary school. There will always be that part of myself that lives on in me, and that I'll always identify with. Maybe I identified with 100% of her 10 years ago, and maybe its like a 40% now, but it's still there. I know I've changed, I've gotten more vocal, confident, less shy, more sociable, skinnier, taller, better skin and hair and teeth, but these things just stick with you somehow. Naturally, I felt that it was surreal and something that was too good to be true when he asked for my number and when he asked me out that day. But I guess there really was a catch to it.
I'd be lying if I said I was totally over it. It sounds so silly to be getting over someone who you've only been on one date is. But somehow I still keep holding on to the possibility of being together, which I know will never really work anyways. It's probably for the best if we just went back to hi/bye acquaintances at church. If we were to go out as friends, I'll always be yearning for something more. If we were to actually start dating, the whole thing would be pointless because I cannot accept the age gap. This is probably for the best, but it still feels kinda crappy.
For the ones who have passed on
I've been reading the Book of Job recently. And it's really interesting how when it was written about 2000 years ago, the questions that were raised, like why does a good God allow evil and suffering in the world, why does suffering happen to those who seemingly don't deserve it - these questions are the same questions being raised today! And while God did not provide a direct answer to these questions to Job, the overall theme is to trust in God's good plan and is an invitation to live in and trust God's grace. And there was a sermon a few weeks back about grieving with hope. It was about our attitude to believers who have passed on - that we should grieve, yes, but also grieve with hope. Hope and the certainty that we will see them again with Jesus. And the pastor said something towards the end - we may never know what happens during the last few hours, minutes, or even seconds, of one's life. Whether they accepted Jesus at the realm between life and death. And that made me think of Mama. I didn't minister to her during her final moments as I didn't consider myself a Christian at that point of time. But I'd like to hope and believe that somehow, during her state of unconsciousness which was roughly 24 hours, that Jesus came to speak to her, and that she accepted Him. This is what I want to believe, what I will choose to cling on to. Before she passed on, I had a dream of Ah Mo and Yi Ma, and that they were talking together. And I know it wasn't like any other dream, it wasn't some recollection of past memories. But the dream was actually real. This I know to be true because they were talking about Mama and it was prophetic. Ah Mo became a Christian before she passed away, and Yi Ma wasn't. But if she wasn't, how come they were together? Maybe Jesus also came and ministered to Yi Ma during her final moments. This I don't know for sure, but it could be true. I hope this to be true.
Looking forward
Med school will be starting next month. That's crazy. Recently, I went on my usual weekly run. The weather was nice (it's been extremely hot and humid recently) and so I decided to talk a walk down the boardwalk into the reservoir. And I was just taken back to around this time 11 months ago, when I was in the thick of studying for the MCAT. I was going for runs almost everyday, not because I had too much time on my hands, but because I was just so stressed out and felt that running was the only thing that calmed me down. Back then, this epiphany came to me out of the blue - that it was okay regardless of how much I scored on the MCAT. No matter how much I got, be it a 493, 503, 513, or a 523, I just knew in that very moment that I was already so very proud of myself. So proud of myself for even deciding to take this monster of an exam, to have the guts to even apply for med school. To have the courage to do what no one else around me was doing. I remember coming home that day after the run in tears, not tears of sadness, but just tears of emotion. Fast forward 11 months later, me back in the same spot but in a situation I had only dared to dream about back then.
It still feels surreal. It still doesn't feel real that I'm going to become a doctor.

a summer to remember
hello friends, i definitely just abandoned this whole blog, now didn't i
well i am happy to report that i am still alive, and am thriving!
Here's a rundown of everything that has been going on:
[inserting a readmore because this is long af]
May
So in May, I was definitely just all over the place because I was 1) trying to finish a paper published in a conference!! it literally drove me insane. anyways, then i had to go and finish a 78 page thesis, which involved a really convoluted timeline because i had to finish it ~ a week before the actual deadline so my PI could read it over, but then i had to finish it a few days before THAT so my PhD supervisors could read it over, which meant that i had like one (1) week to write like. all of it.
Luckily I had most of the first half already written, during whatever shitshow April was (April was a lot of coding for the paper, and then not having time to write my thesis). But THEN i had to organize all the data from my own personal experiments, make figures, and draft the entire results section. AND i had like two final reports to do for my class, so my last weeks of academia looked like....
Tumblr media
Of course, the day before my thesis was due, I pulled an all nighter, because, of course. What other way would I ever end my academic career. Submitted it though, and I graduated! [LINK TO MY THESIS]
Tumblr media
Also! I got vaccinated and felt like death for a whole day, but then my friend came over and we ate fried chicken and watched this show called Miraculous, which is a kids show from France, but for some reason is actually hilarious and really entertaining. Then I felt better, so I proceeded to work on my thesis.
Also, I guess I should talk a little bit about the class I took this semester, which was an industrial organization economics class. We looked at things like how different markets are organized, why they are that way, what market concentration means, how mergers affect competition, and what kind of effect that may impose on consumers. For the final case study (which, I will say, I wrote like 2000 words in a single day, so . applause for me), I looked at the Nvidia-ARM merger and how that may or may not affect competition in the GPU market, the CPU market, and the mobile chip market. I think my analysis was a little bit more surface level, which was fine for me, since I'm by no means an economics expert or even remotely should have any expectations at all, but I read a lot and learned a lot and that's the goal!
So yes, my brief excursion into the field of economics was overall positive, I feel like I learned a lot and now I can read financial articles about the tech industry and not be completely lost, which, again, was the goal.
But yes, May was a lot of work, and once it wrapped up, I got to spend a lot of time with friends post-vaccination! After the 1 or 2 week mark after my second dose, I started going back to the gym, especially to play basketball with folks, which I had missed a lot. I spent a lot of time at my old dorm just hanging out, and got to have a cute salmon dinner over at my other friend's place. And we made cheesecake too.
June (MA->NY->MA->CA)
I finally went to visit my best friend in New York. I hadn't seen her in > 400 days, so it was really a very anticipated event, except we saw each other across the crosswalk, but then the light took like five minutes to turn green, so it was really anticlimactic. Anyways, we ended up bumming around New York and Long Island for a week, and it was nice to spend some time with her after such a long gap.
Tumblr media
We spent a day at a vineyard and I fell asleep so
After getting back to Boston, my mom came back from Taiwan to help me move out of my apartment. It was a lot of finding people to sell things to, sweating because it was very hot that week, and praying everything would work out (it did). I also got to have a few final meals with various friends and my mom and I got to take one last lark down the Infinite, which I was really grateful for because it was the first time visitors got to go inside campus in over a year.
Also got into my school's MBA program! Yes i applied to a deferred program (which is like you get into a program, but you don't have to go for 2-5 years, as a way of getting in right after undergrad/grad school, but then accumulating some work experience first). It was hilarious, I was literally shopping in my campus store for a new sweatshirt and I got a phone call from the admissions office saying I got in. My mom had been pushing me to apply to grad programs, and I didn't tell her about it because I didn't know if I would actually follow through. But I got to surprise her with the news, and she was so happy she did the whole "calling all the relatives" thing again.
After flying home, I told myself I'd read more and exercise more, which I have been doing. I got a membership at Planet Fitness, which has been really good for me (going 3x a week), and I've made my way through at least 5 books this summer so far. My holds list at my local library is literally insane. (For recs, I recently read Normal People, which I absolutely devoured, and In the Dream House, which hit really hard for me.)
This summer was also really about reconnecting with high school friends. All three of us were unemployed, with plans to come in the fall, so we were all free to hang out all the time. We started out at the local library planning out a road trip, and we worked out a few times together, and a few coffee dates too. We took a fun day trip down to LA one day, and we visited Malibu, went to the Getty, hit up some local food places in the city. Driving down the PCH with Taylor Swift blaring and the windows down on a hot June day, just hits so different. There is nothing like it.
Tumblr media
My friend's birthday was in June, so we put together a little video for her and bought some jewelry, and had a Zoom call to celebrate. Then I got BBQ with some friends and sat in the parking lot eating ice cream until 11 at night just trading stories from our pasts. It felt like the perfect summer life, just staying out until whenever, grabbing food wherever we wanted, with friends I had had for literally a whole decade.
It was already a really good summer, but then July. July was crazy.
July (CA -> MI -> CA -> NV -> CA -> WA -> OR -> CA)
So one Sunday morning, I woke up to a text
Actually, I'm going to do a separate post on the whole Michigan trip because that sh** was on another level of spontaneous, impulsive, crazy life stuff. But anyways, so July started off with a trip to Michigan to visit my friends, and then I came back for the 4th, had 36 hours of rest before my high school friends and I went on a road trip.
This road trip was a little ambitious. We hit spots all up California, from hiking in Sequoia Nat'l Park to Kings Canyon, driving up to Sacramento and visiting art museums, and then going up to Tahoe but staying in Nevada, going kayaking and hiking and sitting on the beach for hours. It was reallllllly hot, but luckily I don't think it ever broke 90 degrees. The views were beautiful, especially at Kings Canyon. The drive in, you're surrounded by huge rock walls, with a thin river rushing by next to you. The hike itself literally feels like you're in nature, like the trail is somewhat defined but not paved, there are no sounds of traffic, the path isn't heavily trafficked so we were the only ones there for the most part. We even saw a deer and washed our faces in the river. Throughout the whole thing, we climbed into so many waterfalls, trying not to slip on rocks.
I hadn't been to Sacramento in over a decade, but it was a cute day trip. There isn't a ton to do there, but it was a nice reprieve from the constant driving and nature. We visited the Leland Stanford Mansion, the Crocker Art Museum, and Old Town Sacramento. A good chance to get a nice coffee, a sit-down meal, and some air conditioning. At Tahoe, we went kayaking on Pope Beach, with the clearest water I have ever seen, followed up by a hike up to a beautiful view of the Lake.
On our way back, we stopped at a lot of interesting places, like small towns like Lee Vining, where we found an Upside Down House; Manzanar, the site of an old Japanese internment camp during the WWII era (which also hit hard); and Randsburg, a literal living ghost town. Overall, getting to travel with my friends finally was so fun, they were so much fun to be around for five days, and getting to explore so much of California was so fun - even though I'd been here for so long, I never knew these places existed.
Tumblr media
So I came back and had around 48 hours to recover before my mom and I took a trip up to the Pacific Northwest!
I've always wanted to visit Seattle, and figured I'd hit Portland on the way too. We originally wanted to go to Hawaii but it got so expensive by the middle of the summer, so we decided to stay a little closer to home (probs the better decision bc I was already so tired by this point).
Seattle! Got to visit Pike Place Market many times, grab some coffee at the original Starbucks, see Mt. Rainier, and grab food with three friends! Also went to Bainbridge Island for a day which was SO cute - got to do an olive oil/balsamic vinegar tasting, which sounds so extra, but is actually really unexpectedly fun. At Starbs, I did a cold brew flight, which resulted in a rough night of tossing and turning for me, but I think it was worth it. Other things included the Pinball Museum, Space Needle, and Chihuly Glass Museum!
Tumblr media
So I lowkey really wanted to visit Portland because I wanted to achieve a long-lasting dream of seeing an NWSL game in person. So I went to the Thorns Pride game!!
Tumblr media
The Thorns fanbase is actually insane, I cannot express to you, like there's this whole fan section that actually did synchronized cheers and routines and was actually ROARING when they scored the entire game. I swear the audience was actually watching them at points instead of the match. Overall, the stadium was going crazy, like I thought I was at a tied Celtics-Bucks game with how loud it was in there. Also I swear, Ali Krieger made eye contact with me and waved.
In addition to that, Portland also has a huge rose garden, a nice Japanese tea garden, a lot of good donut stores and a huge bookstore, so all very up my alley. We also took a day trip to see Mt. Hood and more waterfalls!!
Tumblr media
That's a summary of the SEA - PDX trip. Once I got home, my high school friends and I did not waste any time on reuniting to hang out - we went and played ball, grabbed lunch, and then coffee, and then did the same exact thing like two days later and watched a bunch of TikToks, and then spent a whole day at the beach to send my good friend off to medical school in Arizona. They somehow convinced me to go in the water and I got body checked by a wave.
Saw this sculpture on the beach and teared up a little
Tumblr media
So proud of my friends for making it to med school, I am so excited to see them at their white coat ceremonies and beyond, I swear I will cry at every step of the way I'm so happy for them. Now that July is pretty much over, most of my fun summer plans are too, and I finally get a chance to catch my breath from that busy busy month. Spending a lot of time watching the Olympics and trying to muster up the motivation to start a fulltime job in < 1 month!!
Overall, I feel like I've been having a really solid summer given the year that was the covid year. I had a Lot of fun, literally probably two summers worth of fun consolidated into one. I think in the beginning of the year, I really wanted this summer to be good, and I didn't have a lot of set plans for the summer, even by the end of May. But somehow, things came together, like Really together, and I had the best summer of my life in this summer 2021. On top of that, I'm reading more than I have since probably middle school, I feel the most in shape that I ever have, I can DRIVE NOW. Only thing that would've made it better was if I got to go back to Taiwan to visit the fam, but unfortunately I can't go back because of strict travel restrictions there and they had a COVID outbreak too :/ I still got around 3.5 weeks of summer to go, so we'll see how the rest goes :)
