hey, your video compilation of 4chan post about shield is a great ressource for fandom psychology. Interesting to see another user who lurk the wrestling board and use tumblr. Did you ever work on compilation of the tumblr fandom during the peak of the shield era ? I did not research it yet. xoxo

glad someone liked that video, only in times when im super fixated on something will i end up searching through the 4chan archives for more content...unfortunately 4chan vernacular tends to get a laugh out of me (if it isnt absolute lowtier content, had to scrape through a lot of that). the shield stuff i tried to get from when it was at its peak and you'll see posts on there from 2013+, but i also got modern stuff now bc the boardspeak actually changed with it.

ironically it is way easier to deepdive and compile stuff from 4chan bc it has a much better archival system than tumblr; ive also looked for lots of old stuff on deviantart due to the crossover but i found that it has a pretty shitty way of archiving/sorting older posts (just like on here. ive been on tumblr since 13 so i know what sorts of areas to look for, but its still very hard to find it directly on here. i havent spent as much time as i did getting those posts for that video so i can try harder.)

fandom psychology is interesting to me too so im happy you saw my video with that angle. ive collected lots of old shield fangirl content off of sites like weheartit and pinterest (ironically those are often better at keeping images up for longer periods of time) too but i didnt know if i should make a comp, maybe i will. i also looked through random forums and places like lolcow dot farms (which only really granted one of the screenshots...not too much discussion over there for good or bad. i was hoping to find discussion abt shieldfangirls or wrestling rpf but surprisingly they didnt think to make a "point and laugh" thread abt those topics). i find it interesting how much shieldrelated psychosis was on both sides of the spectrum (tumblr vs 4chan)....i could talk more on it but im a little brainless and sleep deprived rn

#surprisingly there is actually LESS shield blingees than dx or cm punk blingees. that at least i could find. theres a large number of #desktop background edits from deviantart and content like the fanfic edits/“outfits i would wear to meet the shield”/ogflowercrown phone bg #collages. and the like. i could compile all this shit i just didnt think it mattered to anyone LOL #sorry for the long post everyone #the most interesting thing abt the shields hayday and eventual fall on 4chan was 1) how many guys unironically loved seth up until he #“turned shoot faggot”/or the first knee injury. he was a fan favorite on there even with the contrarian posters saying otherwise (most of #4chan is just being. the contrarian so that tracks). and 2) the huge divide between guys who hated ambrose (usually bc he was over with #female fans...theres still that divide with how straight men dont understand favs among women. also goes along w my noted difference in fav #among queer men/women etc etc - but they would mask this by saying they hated that he was a jobber (true) or his inring technique was slopp #) and guys who adored ambrose bc he was a promo guy...they loved his early promos/“he just like me fr”.. (and a large grouping of dudes who #would call him cute). i dunno just stuff i noticed #also. obviously a lotta mox hate due to dickriding cornette #the shields peak is interesting to me so i might continue to compile more shit like this when i get the time. i have the shield dvds too #and wanted to do a LONG journey of p1rat1n6 all their scenes off of pcock while i still have my sub. but it would take a while #also. love ur acc bc i too enjoy thinkin abt the fem versions of dude wrestlers #fleshclipstag #tactical-asks

#was tired of my steam game shortcuts taking up the whole damn screen #and having to like. maneuver them around so i could still see my background #so i found this software that lets you like. basically put your icons in little compartments #and you can scroll through them and all. and it's So customizable #you can put the boxes wherever you like resize them resize the icons change the color #there's even like a labeling system for the icons ? you can tag them things like ''work'' ''leisure'' ''important'' & all #and then organize with that it's p neat #Mostly though you have an option to make the compartments invisible unless you click on the desktop #meaning you get to see your whole desktop image Yeehaw #loving this shit rn #it's called nimi places if you wanna check it out. it free #the only downside i've found is that like. you can't just drag and drop icons to a compartment #basically each compartment is just tied to a folder on your computer and shows everything that's in it #so like i had to make a folder to put my shortcuts in And make separate ones for each 'category'#so say if i install a new game on steam and it adds a desktop icon for it #i'm gonna have to manually put that in the corresponding folder for it to show up in the compartment #instead of just dragging it in and boom done #but eh. minor drawback tbh it'll take like 10 seconds

My grandmother always asks why we don’t have more pictures from our vacations but what she doesn’t understand is that my brother and I do photography as like artists and my dad takes pictures only to document his carpentry projects or get new backgrounds for his computer so none of the pictures are of us. My dad takes like two landscape shots to try out on his desktop later and my brother and I have like a hundred shots of rain falling on a glass and bees and stuff and you can’t even tell where we were from the photos but those don’t count as tourist photos to her

Chiho Saito’s 1999 Revolutionary Girl Utena Original Illustration Collection

IT’S HERE. IT’S DONE. IT’S FINISHED. NOW…IT’S YOURS. Happy Holidays, my friends.

Vanna here! I have posted some already about this project, and the responses I got, public and otherwise, have been absolutely incredible. Y’all have been reblogging and hyping this before it even finished…I haven’t felt so encouraged about an Utena project since the musicals! (Yes, streams soon, I promise.) You can read the other post to get more details, and catch my post here with more details about the process if you’re interested. The long and short of it?

This is the first artbook I ever scanned. I did it in 2001. In Photoshop, using multiple scans per page that took hours to process. But it was 2001. A half megabyte file that was 1250px wide was considered extremely hardcore and impressive. That’s just always been the business I’m in when it comes to Utena art, you know?

It’s now the latest artbook I’ve scanned, and so much of the process, and effort involved, is unchanged. What has changed, is the result. Welcome to your new desktop background. Your new phone background. Your new poster print.

What I’ve done here is attempt to create definitive digitized images of Chiho Saito’s work as offered by this book--I have removed the print moiré of the original scans, and used my literal decades of experience to try and tease out as much information from them as possible. Without being physically in front of the original artwork (which is a thing I’ve had the great fortune to get to do) this is The Most Chiho Saito you are ever going to get. I’ve tried my best to make sure there is a way to get it that works for everyone:

Check out the ‘compressed’ (not very) 10k ‘web friendly’ (not really) copy at the Bibliothèque, the media archiving wing of the Something Eternal forums at Empty Movement*. I am genuinely really proud of this work.** I was able to tease out so much new detail from these…her incredible layering techniques, the faintest brush of her highlights, and the full range of her delicate hand at whites and blacks… details commonly lost in digitization. I sincerely hope you find something here that you’re looking for, as an artist looking for inspiration, as a weeb looking for a desktop, as an archiver excited to see incredible 90s manga artwork saved forever in the digital realm. I have a confession. This artbook was my ‘side project’ as I worked on this, *the main project.* For a couple years I’ve been banging around with a new domain, and originally I had other plans for it, but Elon Musk ruined my Twitter and Discord is well along on its way to enshittification, and well….we joke on the Discord a lot about ‘reject modernity, embrace forums’ and you know what? We’re right. So Yasha and I are putting our money where our mouths are once again, and doing something insane. We are launching, in 2023, a website forum. Obviously, this is not the official ‘launch’ per se, but I cannot announce the artbook without directing you to the forum, since it sits on the attached very cool gallery system. Oops! Told on myself. Another post more focused on the forum will be forthcoming, but if you are just that motivated to get in right away, you absolutely can! (This will help stagger new arrivals anyway, which is good for us!) If you would rather wait for the ‘official’ launch, by all means that’s coming, including a lengthy screed about how and why we’re doing this. In either case, remember: this is a couple weebs trying to make internet magic happen, we are not website developers by trade. Give us grace as we iron things out and grow into this cool new website thingie…hopefully along with some of you! :D
