you asked about my oc's so here's a more in depth malware character explanation (you will regret giving me the opportunity to talk about xem, i could go on for hours)

this is an older reference and i'm planning on updating it soon but it works for now

malware is a 0.1% who emerged near a hotspot close to the location that would soon be iacon. she was soon found by a younger alpha trion and an even younger nova prime, both of whom were captivated and intrigued by the green glow of xeir spark.

due to nova prime's newly acquired position of power over the rest of cybertron, alpha trion thought it prudent to assign the new prime a body guard. and who better than the hulking warframe with the oddly coloured spark and an outlier ability that allowed her to go at speeds that most bots could only dream of achieving

malware was not consulted about this decision and though she enjoyed filling her time with the then sane nova prime, xey always found observing jhiaxus and shockwave's experiments to be far more interesting than protecting the prime.

malware's original altmode was a motorcycle and xey kept that particular form throughout the prewar era, though she never grew particularly attached, viewing it only as a tool to assist the primacy.

for most of cybertron's golden age malware was a kind, calm mannered, and mentally stable bodyguard who took great pride in xeir job. she was trained by both arcee and galvatron and often accompanied the prime and his companions (dai atlas, galvatron, jhiaxus, and later on, a newly forged cyclonus) on their expeditions around cybertron and the surrounding planets in the solar system.

however, once jhiaxus created monstructor and nova prime got it into his processor to spread the glory of cybertron across the galaxy things took a turn for the worse for malware. she was ordered by galvatron to stay behind on the planet while the ark-1 left for the benzuli expanse. alpha trion, shockwave, and arcee did their best to comfort malware, who was rightfully distraught at being left behind while those xey considered family left for the stars but once the ark-1 was declared missing and nominus prime was chosen as the new prime, it was already too late.

malware very quickly spiralled into an intensive psychotic break spurred by the influx of religious teachings in the newly broken cybertron. she fell very deep into the delusion of being watching and controlled by primus himself, to the point that she developed intense auditory hallucinations, extreme paranoia, and mental breakdowns so severe that xey would completely dissociate from reality for weeks at a time.

none of these symptoms were helped by nominus' newly corrupted senate and many of the senators (particularly the functionalist ones) encouraged malware's delusions as it made xem a lot easier to control.

malware was a weapon for the senate, a tool to be cast at political opponents and misbehaving citizens who wouldn't fall in line. and anytime that malware's common sense was able to break through the delusions and requested assistance with her declining mental state, the senate would merely utilise mnemosurgery to submerge xeir psyche back into a religious fervor.

the only really reprieve from the centuries and centuries of dissociation and intense stress were the conversations with senator ratbat's new charge, a young telepath named soundwave who was utterly fascinated by the older assassin and the two, along with soundwave's cassettes, quickly found comfort in their shared misery (though for malware those conversations were mostly a way to not have to listen to the senator's arguments. she was not in a healthy mental state to properly form emotional attachments and intensive paranoia actually made it a lot harder to xem to be around soundwave since there was always the possibility that he could read her mind.)

eventually nominus prime was assassinated, though it wasn't by malware since sentinel and proteus knew that asking the hyper religious prime bodyguard to kill a prime wouldn't go over very well.

once sentinel became prime, ratbat had soundwave enact his little arm's deal with the newly formed decepticons and had malware assist his charge as a bodyguard.

with nominus' death still fresh, malware had been going through another clear spell partially helped by ratbat assigning xem megatron's writings under the guise of "being able to spot dissenting citizens when they appear" and thus malware was far more agreeable with helping the decepticons overthrow the senate.

she never much liked sentinel anyways and with the promise of finally being able to attend university once the senate was destroyed, malware quickly agreed to help the decepticons bring down the government.

now idw doesn't ever really state how much time passed between when sentinel prime died and when zeta took over but i'm just going to say that's it was like 100,000 years (enough time for some more political reform but not too long since cybertronians live for ages)

in this time malware attended iacon university and graduated with a degree in biochemistry, specialising in organic plants and the study of the cybertronian body. xey wrote a lot of papers regarding the claims of functionalism from a scientific lens and eventually her work reached the optics of a former student of shockwave; damus.

the two of them quickly became very close friends, in fact damus was the only real friend malware had made in the time since the senate was overthrown and sentinel prime was beheaded by megatron. as such, malware very quickly formed an unhealthy level of attachment to the mech and became incredibly protective of him.

basically what you'd imagine would happen when someone is incredibly isolated, used as a tool for the gain of others, and then let out into the world for the first time in literally millions of years.

a little bit before zeta unleashed his weird vampire weapons he had damus kidnapped in an attempt to get malware back on his side, or at the very least keep xem from rejoining the decepticons under threat of violence against her only friend.

malware tried to ask orion pax for help, but since he was on his "i need to kill all decepticons right now" thing, he denied xem help and basically said "not my problem sorry" and dipped.

any of malware's respect for the autobots went out the window and she promptly broke damus out of prison xeirself before the two of them joined up with the main decepticon army shortly after they killed zeta prime.

malware joined shockwave's science division, underwent a full body modification into the frame seen in the reference, and picked out a new altmode, a medicine cabinet.

while damus was fucking around in grindcore, malware finally got to do science on a less than ethical scale! and this is when she spiralled into another psychotic break, one fueled by the newly hyper atheistic decepticon faction. any sense of loyalty or comfort from primus was ejected right out of malware and firmly replaced with an intense loyalty not to megatron, but to the cause of the decepticons itself.

when damus, then renamed tarn decided to form the djd, the first person he asked to join him in his self righteous mission to rid the cause of any traitors was malware who took up the role as the first helex.

helex's method of killing was primarily geared towards poisons, using xeir needles to inject a variety of nasty concoctions inside whatever unlucky decepticon happened to be next on the list. unlike most of the other djd members, helex didn't revel in the sadistic killing games and applied the same energy that the senate requested upon finding a victim; swift, painful, and with enough force to send a message.

helex and tarn's relationship was not a healthy one. they both struggle with intense co-dependency and combined with helex's constant detachment from reality along with a series of very bad mental breakdowns which tarn refused to treat because much like the senate he viewed her delusions as actual genuine devotion to the cause.

basically it's two people who really really need therapy and proper medication but are in the decepticons. so yeah no dice

eventually helex was sent on a solo mission to dispatch a runaway con who was being treated in an autobot field hospital she was given a harsh reality check by a minibot medic treating the patient helex was sent to kill.

most autobots cowered in fear but the doctor stood firm and argued that the djd were no better than the prewar senate, eliminating anyone who disagreed with them, and what kind of freedom is that?

sunburst, over a very long period of time managed to convince helex to fake her death and defect to the autobots. where xey was then put on trial, sentenced to roughly 1000 years in garrus-5 and then put into intensive therapy.

rung of the pious pools was very easily able to see that his patient was suffering from very intense delusions and he quickly had malware put on anti-psychotics.

though she had defected and was firmly convinced to stay on the autobots side, malware was and has never been well liked by most of the autobots. xey were put on constant surveillance by prowl and beyond sunburst, did not make many friends due to both fear and general paranoia that someone might rat xem out to tarn.

malware's alliance to the autobots isn't actually out of loyalty though. she's only there because of sunburst working for them and xey readily and openly hate optimus prime and his high command. she thinks them hypocrites considering how deep into the primacy malware was entrenched.

xey did however become very attached to sunstreaker and sideswipe, finding their violent tendencies and asshole personalities to be very endearing. that and also they would not stop pestering xem for sparring matches and well let's just say that annoying someone can be a love language in specific cases. malware is kind of a mom figure to the two of them. mostly because everyone else hated the twins for being so violent and they didn't have any role models growing up so why not become emotionally attached to the former mass murderer con.

malware was part of the team stationed on earth during the events of phase 1 of idw and she stuck around to look for sunstreaker after he was kidnapped. xey were seriously considering nuking earth just to find him and she was horrified to see what had become of her son.

all you need to know about malware before phase 2 of idw starts is that she fucks up the US government after getting trapped in their basement and then promptly fucks off as soon as possible. oh also xem and drift are decent friends just because of the con association. she thinks his primus worshiping is fucking stupid but judges internally.

once phase 2 starts malware ends up joining the lost light with sunburst because fuck staying on cybetron am i right. for the two years that the first part of mtmte takes place, malware is pretty happy. xey've got a new home, her conjunx by xeir side, and one of her kids on board.

and then overlord happens and malware almost kills rodimus. mostly because he allowed a massive murderous asshole on board, kicked out one of malware's only friends, and then covered it up because he didn't want to accept the blame. basically any trust that malware had in the primes was firmly destroyed and xey nearly rip out his spark in sheer rage

regarding megatron, malware honestly doesn't care that he's on board the lost light. xey think that both megs and rodimus are terrible leaders and they deserve each other. the lost light is a means to an end in regards to avoiding cybertron at all costs and if it means megatron is captain, then so be it.

the rest of mtmte and lost light play out and malware's only role of significance is that xey are the one to turn off tarn's statue on the necrobot's world. (at least in the canon compliant timeline) in the bad ending malware ends up slipping mentally when xey learn sideswipe died. loosing so many friends in such a short period of time really fucks her up and sunburst has malware sent to krok's con therapy centre to avoid malware self harming any further.

in the non canon compliant timeline, malware ends up saving kaon from death and tries to reform him and the rest of the djd in the good ending. which i already explained in my reblog earlier. basically the rest of the djd bar kaon end up being magically revived in the new universe and the last chapter is going to focus heavily on malware and tarn's relationship because i have too many thoughts. also going to feature tarnma because i want pharma and malware to bond over how stupidly hot their shared boyfriend is while also hating him for benig such a stubborn freak
