This was very fun to answer!!

Marshall's favorite is jellyfish because they're just pretty. I feel like his favorite would be moon jellyfish.

Lawrence likes seahorses, he thinks they're very cute. Plus they're the only sea creature he really knows anything about. Long-snouted seahorses are his fav.

Sadie would like crabs. Mostly because that crab meme still lives rent free in her head, but she also thinks they're just really neat. Loves Atlantic ghost crabs the most.

Nathan likes sharks, which I'm sure isn't shocking. He likes how cool they look, and finds how people misunderstand them relatable :') He loves tiger sharks.

Charlotte isn't very fond of most animals, sea creatures included. She finds coral pretty, but that's pretty much it. Could see her liking blood belly comb jellies tho.

Harper likes manta rays. Not for any big reason, since they also wouldn't know basically anything about marine animals, but they just look cute.

Adding Nadia because I just wanna expand on what she was like more. She'd like octopuses, specifically dumbo octopuses. They just have such cute little faces.

i forgot one of the things i hate most about the arcana is how openly hostile every single fucking character is to julian. it's so stupid. every other love interest besides julian and lucio are besties or at least like each other, but julian is despised by the others and the narrative itself past the point that it even makes sense.

sure at first they can hate him, that's fine, they think he's a murderer, but even past that it's STILL constantly "oohhh julian's stupid julian's childish julian's work and interests and passions and sexual preferences are all so funny and silly and worthy of ridicule by everyone despite his discomfort and without his consent but also we're going to frame it as 'good-natured ribbing' narratively even though it's objectively just bullying" biting and clawing and maiming and killing. i hate these writers so fucking much.

EVERY OTHER CHARACTER is allowed to be portrayed as competent at their job and hobbies, even lucio to an extent. but not julian!!! julian sux lol!!!!! julian a Medical Doctor puts more trust in science than magic? omg BIGOT! julian who does not like, trust, or have any interest in magic, and has never studied it, can't tell when something is ""obviously"" magic to experienced magicians and assumes its effect to be medicinal? wow he's so STUPID OMG... julian uses strange methods in his practice like leeches? a common old-fashioned treatment in a old-fashioned setting [nevermind that it's a FANTASY setting and leeches may very well be effective in broader applications than irl (and yes there are modern irl instances of medicinal leeches why does everybody act like leeches are so wild and crazy medicine-wise?) in this universe? like they might literally just work? we don't know?] he must be a total hack lol i bet he gives patients cocaine too!! he was a pirate? bet he was bad at it! he's an actor? bet he's bad at it!

not to mention how WEIRD they are about his identity. like for a game that supposedly takes place in a world with no identity-based bigotry julian suuuuure faces a lot of what looks a lot like homophobia and bottom-shaming. don't worry you don't have to be threatened by him he's not a REAL man... no no he's cis we just mean he's submissive. but that's something everyone's allowed to tease him about, also, even though that's obviously inappropriate and mean as fuck. just. GOD. i fucking hate these devs. it's so fucking gross and stupid and weird. it doesn't even make sense, it just makes the other characters seem like assholes for how they're treating him, and especially when they write portia to bully him it doesn't even sound like her. i'm in hell. i'm in hell.

The Arcana Mini-HCs: M6's kid gets unfairly dress coded

Julian: gets so annoyed that he rants about it to all the other parents and accidentally kickstarts a clash between them and the school

Asra: wears the exact same outfit to dropoff the next day, collecting compliments as they head into the principal's office to discuss it

Nadia: does a surprise school visit the next day and calls out all the ways the teacher is breaking code in front of the principal

Muriel: goes in to ask the teacher to explain the dress code claim, accidentally intimidates them so badly they leave the kid alone

Portia: reads the entire dress code front to back, finds every loophole, and helps her kid exploit that for next time >:3

Always on time

Secretly hates most of the classes bc the teacher is boring

She'll try to take the professor's place

She's just so good that the principle pretends she's an actual student

Everyone is happier this way

Asra

Sleeps through the class

Takes a lot of colorful notes

...none of them are about the lecture

Trades tarot readings for notes and explanations by their classmates

Interrupts the lecture often with random pieces of information about the subject

Random, but accurately correct

Somehow he passes

Julian

There's no knowledge he would deem as boring

Sits in the front row and takes actively part to the lecture

Never takes notes, survives on Nadia's

Always late

Still loved by the teacher

Will go play chess with the professor because he thinks he's sad no one likes the lecture

Like many fans, I wasn't super happy about s2's writing of Shadow and Bone. Yet despite that, I knew even then how desperately we needed a third season --- for the crew, the cast, the writers, and every other wonderful person on that production team. Most importantly, I needed a third season for the little girl I was who didn't get that representation onscreen. Growing up wasian and queer in a mostly white and religious community meant conforming to an ideology that erased who I was. Shadow and Bone, as messy as it was, showed us queer-coded wasian leads, POC queer characters, and queer interracial couples. Even as a grown-ass adult, I felt like a twelve-year old kid seeing Nadia and Tamar, Wesper, Kanej, etc. give such nuanced romances. Fuck Netflix for taking that away from not just me, but for the thousands of others who had this same experience. That show and this fandom proved to me I wasn't alone. I'd love for Netflix to give me a sound explanation for why they'd cancel a show that did as well as S&B.

Day 1 of our second-ever Sloane Washington Appreciation Week begins TOMORROW!!

Tomorrow also happens to be (in most years) the International Day for Women and Girls in STEM, and what better way to celebrate this day, than to celebrate one of Choices' most illustrious scientists, Sloane Washington!! She's an inspiration in so many ways. Struggles with social anxiety, loves coding and astronomy, writes bomb science fiction!

She is also an inspiration to women and girls outside of her scientific pursuits. She's brave, smart, and more resilient than she thinks! Both her mother and her are amazing - and each of Sloane's relationships with the women in the group particularly - whether it's Nadia, Alana or f!Hayden - are rich with humour, affection and solidarity!! Which is why our second theme for today is Girl Power!!

Today, we celebrate Sloane as the girl who looked up to so many scientists, and the woman who will become the scientist so many girls will look up to! 🥰

Any and all creative works are welcome!! Fanfic, fanart, meta, edits, moodboards, playlists, headcanons, interactive media...even screenshots of your favourite scenes!! Our only requirement is that the pieces should be Sloane-centric and show a positive depiction of her!

We also welcome WIPs - we know that it can be difficult to complete pieces in a week, so if you've finished even a portion of the work and would like to present just that for now, do send it across and we'd be happy to include it!! We also keep the event open for entries the year around, though we do keep a deadline so we can make the appreciation video on time ❤️

A friendly reminder that these are merely themes for you to use. It isn't completely necessary for your content for a particular day to be posted on that day only. You can post something you intended for Day 2 when Day 5 is on, as long as you tag the post for the day you meant it for.

Be sure to keep these points in mind when you make your posts:
