Ok it's really out of nowhere but youtube recommended me a remastered version of A Very Potter Musical and nostalgia brain told me had to watch it. I was so obsessed with this thing in 2015. And it holds up honestly it is still very funny even if I don't really care about hp anymore

I'm going to say something absolutely controversial:
Severus is neither particularly short, nor particularly tall.
He's just your average, 5'9"-ish guy.

anyone else out there think severus is just a chronic pain haver. i know the dark mark pain is real, but i feel like he might be miserable in more ways than just mentally in other ways

Spring 1995.
She had promised she wouldn't do it again.
It might have been a lie.

Character: *is canonically violent and abusive but has a sad backstory*
Normal people: he isn't real and it's cool and fun to explore his character in different scenarios
Freaks: he was right actually AND he is a poor little boy, he was MISUNDERSTOOD. actually those children were abusive towards him first but the narrator was unreliable so :/

since people are asking for them, here are my unpopular marauders opinions
(note, and i mean this in the most serious way: please, for the love of god, if you don't agree, just scroll. there is no reason to cause drama over some unpopular opinions of some random tumblr user just because you don't agree with me.)
remus is my least favorite character. don't get me wrong, i love him to bits, he's just the least intriguing to me. he's the character we've been given most of; not only that, i find sirius and james' character, as well as peter's (and his betrayal), as far more interesting
i don't really like jegulus for the same reason as remus; the dynamic is interesting, there is a lot to work with there, including the death eater and order member dynamic, but i just find some ships as more interesting
most of the characters are written as super one-dimensional and therefore i do not like most fandom characterizations which is a crucial point, to me, in whether i read the fic. i like fics in which the characters are written as real people, with human emotions and flaws, and not some qualities thrown together
some wolfstar shippers are pretty much the most annoying people in fandom (coming from a wolfstar shipper). shipping the only consistent ship in this fandom does not make you inherently better than everyone else, and just because someone else splits wolfstar for other ships dynamics does not mean anything
the black sisters and the evans sisters, if written well, can be more interesting than the black brothers and i don't think we talk enough about them (i also find the black brothers are really interesting, and i need more fics in which the intensity of these dynamics are explored)
i dislike the main characterization of regulus in fandom, being a huge fan of morally grey regulus. however, each with their own characterization, and i'm no one to judge next. i find him to be a very interesting character, however, and i like fics that dive deeper into his character
people who ship jegulus and hate lily for no reason need to chill; furthermore, people who hate mary and lily for "getting in the way" of their mlm ships are... i'm not going to comment on this, but you probably know what i mean
"stan bambi" comments on snape videos are really annoying because the very same way we don't like (and sometimes get aggressive) over snape lovers attacking the characters we like, why are we doing that to other people?
i need more peter-centered fics, and i do not like him only being a sidekick or ignored. also, mary is also a very interesting character, and i don't think we credit her enough for it
dorlene > wolfstar
the girls are far more interesting than people make them out to be and i NEED an atyd-like fic (long canon compliant etc) from their povs. it's not a want, it's a need, and i might just write it myself, because i think that a fic like that has a lot of potential
dorcas is morally grey and i need more fics in which that is a thing
this might be my most unpopular opinion but i prefer lily to regulus; i find them both to be very interesting characters, but i find myself more drawn to lily
pretty privilege is REAL in this fandom. bet that if peter and snape were conventionally attractive, they would be as loved as evan, barty, and regulus
i do not see sirius as transfem but why do people have to be so pressed about this hc. lif you don't see it, shut up, move on with your day, and let people who see it do their thing; this fandom is TOO pressed about other people's hcs
i kind of dislike fanon james because they strip him of all humanity and emotions, and make him a ray of walking sunshine with no issues (hence my essay on it, which you can read here)
james would choose sirius over regulus any day

In SWM, we have this iconic monent:
“I don’t need help from filthy little Mudbloods like her!”
Lily blinked. “Fine,” she said coolly. “I won’t bother in future. And I’d wash your pants if I were you, Snivellus.”
“Apologize to Evans!” James roared at Snape, his wand pointed threateningly at him.
“I don’t want you to make him apologize,” Lily shouted, rounding on James. “You’re as bad as he is. …”
“What?” yelped James. “I’d NEVER call you a — you-know-what!”
“Messing up your hair because you think it looks cool to look like you’ve just got off your broomstick, showing off with that stupid Snitch, walking down corridors and hexing anyone who annoys you just because you can — I’m surprised your broomstick can get off the ground with that fat head on it. You make me SICK.”
... In which Lily says James Potter is as bad as Severus Snape calling her a mudblood. And she expands on that, equating James being a show off, conceited, walking around and hexing people for trival cause is equal to calling Lily a mudblood. It doesn't seem like the insult from Snape meant that much to her by this comparison of it equalling petty silly teenage dunderheadedness that isn't even personal to Lily. Pissed her off, certainly. Hurt her? It doesn't seem so.
I contend that the "mudblood" moment was of little importance to Lily - it was only a trigger, a last straw, the final pebble to break this friendship. But to Severus, it was a mountain; he didn't understand or see what had been building on Lily's side and of course he hung the fallout on the tip of the iceberg that was all he could see.
That was mean of her. She had no obligation to stay his friend but given his apology attempt and their 7ish years of (best on his sidd) friendship, she cannot have not understood how big this was to him. She chose to kick him away instead of just shutting the door.

Hello! Would you mind elaborating on your post about some people thinking of LQR as Snape? I don't think I have seen it (thankfully) and it confuses me because the characters are very different in basically everything I can think of (principles, methods, priorities), so I don't get where the comparison could even begin. Sorry if you don't actually want to talk about the subject, you can totally ignore this ask if that's the case. Have a nice day! (And happy belated new year!) 🐰💛
Hi Nonny! no worries about asking and happy new year too you too!
oh it was mildly a shitpost, but people talk about LQR and his teaching and whether or not he was a bad teacher and if he was mean to WWX in a way that uhhh strongly reminds me of the way that Snape? was a teacher? like in the "he was terrible and stifled creativity and he was a bad teacher who doesn't deserve to work with children and he was probably also a shitty guardian for his nephews" way + joking about how he's homophobic/"would qi deviate bc of [x]" (also there's a popular thing in fic where LQR is bitter about CSSR and takes it out on WWX) which! sorry there's no basis for this in canon and I hgggg. Is it bc there was no "always" is this why it's not sexy.
Like for all intents and purposes:
LQR was a good teacher. People WANTED to attend his classes it's not like the kids were STUCK there like this is some sort of potions dungeon. NOR was HE stuck teaching kids when he didn't want to.
Yelling at a student bc the student proposed necromancy instead of the many suitable options when necromancy is a huge taboo is not the same as yelling at Neville and making him cry or having weird racist opinions OR only being interested in some child bc you wanted to fuck his mom.
why would you slander Shufu like this.

Oh, hey, quick question for the classroom. Might be silly.
So, Dumbledore made Lupin a Prefect to keep the other Marauders in check.
Which means he was very well aware of the bullying issue (how could he not be, really?).
He has also been shown to pick/not pick Prefects based on more than mere academic achievement and rule-abiding on their part, but also for more subjective reasons (such as Ron becoming a prefect as a confidence boost for the kid with five older, successful siblings, Lupin as a buffer for his friends, etc).
Now, my question is: why didn't he make Snape a Prefect, too?
It would be the logical, practical course to follow. If one is actually intentioned to put an end to the issue at hand, that is.
It would be a teachable moment for Snape, too, if you will. Being given just a little of power and confidence could've made all the difference to a kid who had no control of his circumstances whatsoever.
(And I don't want to hear "yeah but he would've taken points off unfairly, based on bias"... Draco was a Prefect, too, and did exactly that. Ron ignored the twin's antics. Points don't matter in the grand scheme of things).
Just my two cents, could honestly be wrong.

Maybe I'm missing something but it seems kinda fucked that James Potter is viewed as some huge bully. Snape tells the story of James in the same way I'm sure Draco would tell the story of Harry. Dumbledore even literally compares Harry and Draco to James and Snape. That is literally a canon comparison in the very first book.
Harry turns invisible and throws snowballs at Draco who has no way of defending himself. He laughs when Draco gets turned into a ferret and embarrassed in front of the school. Ron straight up considers leaving Draco in a room of fire, and everyone loves Ron. Harry almost kills Draco himself with the septumsempra curse. Nobody accuses Harry of being some huge bully. He routinely fights Draco, and Draco fights him back. They each give as good as they get.
Just like James and Snape.
Not to mention that James hated Snape for almost one to one reasons that Harry hated Draco.
Both Draco and Snape eventually became death eaters and showed signs that they agreed with death eater ideals long before they actually joined. Both of them called someone that James/Harry cared for 'mudblood'. Like.
Unless you're willing to say Harry is a bully then there's no reason to say James is.

I mentioned this briefly but while Sev asking Voldemort to spare Lily definitely wasn't his finest hour because he was willing to trade her husband and child, I still think it must have taken serious balls to ask voldemort to spare a muggleborn for him. And I've kind of got to admire that haha. While I believe Severus was most likely on an upward trajectory among the DEs during this time due to his skill, I doubt he was inner circle the way Bellatrix or Lucius Malfoy were, he was pretty new and also a poor half-blood with no status-- we know Voldemort coveted markers of pureblood status like heirlooms, and it was Bellatrix and Lucius that he entrusted with his horcruxes. I tend to think Severus was a pretty low-ranking Death Eater, even if he was climbing the ladder (relaying the prophecy can't have hurt, and it seems like voldemort was trying to position him as a spy inside hogwarts, even though he knew that as DADA professor he'd only last a year)
I have to think that Sev knew that asking voldemort of all people to spare a random mudblood, pretty please, for me, was a long shot. He was desperate, and I think he immediately realised that this wouldn't work and went straight to Dumbledore as a contingency plan-- but he had to try all avenues. And I think he was smart enough to realise that "I'm in love with this muggleborn woman pls dont kill her" would not go over well with Voldemort. At best he'd be laughed out of the room, at worst he'd be killed on the spot for possible disloyalty/being a pathetic mudblood simp, rendering him unable to save Lily.
Tumblr media
I think Sev was smart enough to know that he had to frame his request in a way Voldemort would understand. I imagine he straight up told Voldemort that he wanted to fuck her and that she had rejected him in school so he wanted a chance to right that "wrong", likely he was pretty disgusting about it just to make it believable. I highly doubt Voldemort would go out of his way to spare anyone even for his closest followers like Bellatrix and Lucius, let alone a muggleborn and a sworn enemy. But we see that he did at least make some effort to comply with Sev's request, which makes me think he was probably amused enough by it to give Sev that little bit of consideration. Framing it as a selfish, purely physical passing fancy (a story Voldemort clearly bought) was really the only option, because if Voldemort thought his servant was actually emotionally attached to Lily that would give him more reason to kill her, not less.
And, inadvertently, Severus asking Voldemort to spare her was what gave Lily the opportunity to choose to sacrifice herself and save Harry. Which is kind of wild. Not that Sev's motivation and methods weren't twisted and selfish, but idk I kind of gotta give credit for the bravery and cunning involved here like it's cold as fuck
