What is Love?
Long past sunset, Aymeric was sitting in his study, a book open in his hands though he had failed to read any of the words in it for the past twenty minutes. His stomach was jumping around anxiously and a sharp knock at the door made him jolt straight out of his chair, the book falling to the desk with a light thud. “Enter.”
He tried to recover his composure as his steward announced, “My lord, Count Edmont has arrived.”
“Wonderful - could you bring us some tea, please.”
“Of course, my lord.” The steward disappeared; Aymeric left his study and headed down to the living area, steeling himself for the conversation he was about to have.
He found Edmont seated near the fireplace. “Count Edmont, good evening. Thank you for coming at my behest,” Aymeric greeted him, bowing as the older man rose to his feet to offer the same courtesy.
“Far be it for me to ignore such a summons.” Once they were seated Edmont raised his eyebrows. “How can I be of help?”
Aymeric went rigid. “I-that is-” He suddenly found himself tongue tied. Oh, by the fury- he groaned inwardly. The steward’s timely intervention with the tea was a good diversion; Aymeric took a deep breath as it was poured. Sitting up straight, he tried again. “I wish to ask for your blessing to marry Mizuki,” he said firmly.
Edmont stopped as he reached for the cup, retracting his hand.
“Should I not have given it, I doubt it would stop either of you,” he replied with a teasing tone to his voice. “Although she is not legally my child, I am honoured you would seek my approval first.” Edmont nodded, finally reaching for the cup of tea. “Of course you have my blessing.”

#the air smells like charcoal and it's only going to get worse#bc the government simply doesn't want to do anything to prevent it#i can't wait to see what kind of luxury homes are going to be built there /src#i hate it here#my parents went on the roof to watch it#they sed it looks really scary#i can imagine#i saw last year's#i simply can't handle it emotional rn#the planet is dying#and that's just a fact#it's not going to change#i can only think of the poor animals getting burned alive rn#backed against a wall or something#i have been really close to big fires and i know how that feels#how the few feet i had space to move away just weren't enough#and the worst thing is#that they are just animals they don't understand it isn't their fault#they didn't knew that they had to evacuate#and now they just burn#sure a few got away#but the fires have been burning for some days now#the weather isn't helping either#dry and windy#very windy#i mean we all know that the fire didn't accidentally started at the local dumb

Another thing, I feel like it was a missed opportunity to have the flavors of milk simply be Milk Cookie costumes instead of each being their own Cookies
Now granted, I don’t know what you’d do with them all, but we have multiple chocolate cookies, why not have multiple milk cookies?

I'm a cryptid in Stardew valley. I live on the outskirts of town. I disappear for days on end, purchasing daily one-way tickets to the calico desert. Nobody knows where I go while I'm there. Can occasionally be found fishing at random spots throughout town. I am never not running on at least one triple shot espresso. I take the abandoned minecarts to get around and am frequently seen disappearing into the sewers. I carry a sword for some reason. Once every week or two I will stride into your bedroom to deliver you your favorite meal. I'm a self-made millionaire. I attend all the town events and will go to your concert in the next town over. I have donated approximately 2583 items to the local museum and singlehandedly revitalized the town community center. There are rumors I can talk to junimos. I'm friends with the local wizard

Look. Okay.
There are two things you need to know, here.
First: There’s a style of Greek pottery that was popular during the Hellenic period, for which most of the surviving examples are from southern Italy. We call them ‘fish plates’ because, well, they’re plates, and they’re decorated with fish (and other marine life).

They’re very cool. We’re not 100% sure what they were for, because most of the surviving ones were found as grave goods, but that’s a different post.
The second thing you need to know is that when we (Classics/archaeology/whatever as a discipline) have a collection of artefacts, like vases, sculptures, paintings, etc. and we do not know the name of the artist, but we’re pretty sure one artist made X, Y and Z artefacts, we come up with a name for that artist. There are a whole bunch of things that could be the source for the name, e.g. where we found most of their work (The Dipylon Master) or the potter with whom they worked (the Amasis Painter), a favourite theme (The Athena Painter), the Museum that ended up with the most famous thing they did (The Berlin Painter) or a notable aspect of their style. Like, say, The Eyebrow Painter.

the fact that shakespeare was a playwright is sometimes so funny to me. just the concept of the "greatest writer of the English language" being a random 450-year-old entertainer, a 16th cent pop cultural sensation (thanks in large part to puns & dirty jokes & verbiage & a long-running appeal to commoners). and his work was made to be watched not read, but in the classroom teachers just hand us his scripts and say "that's literature"
just...imagine it's 2450 A.D. and English Lit students are regularly going into 100k debt writing postdoc theses on The Simpsons screenplays. the original animation hasn't even been preserved, it's literally just scripts and the occasional SDH subtitles.txt. they've been republished more times than the Bible
#due to the Great Data Decay academics write viciously argumentative articles on which episodes aired in what order#at conferences professors have known to engage in physically violent altercations whilst debating the air date number of household viewers#90% of the couch gags have been lost and there is a billion dollar trade in counterfeit “lost copies”#serious note: i'll be honest i always assumed it was english imperialism that made shakespeare so inescapable in the 19th/20th cent#like his writing should have become obscure at the same level of his contemporaries#but british imperialists needed an ENGLISH LANGUAGE (and BRITISH) writer to venerate#and shakespeare wrote so many damn things that there was a humongous body of work just sitting there waiting to be culturally exploited...#i know it didn't happen like this but i imagine a English Parliament House Committee Member For The Education Of The Masses or something#cartoonishly stumbling over a dusty cobwebbed crate labelled the Complete Works of Shakespeare#and going 'Eureka! this shall make excellent propoganda for fabricating a national identity in a time of great social unrest.#it will be a cornerstone of our elitist educational institutions for centuries to come! long live our decaying empire!'#'what good fortune that this used to be accessible and entertaining to mainstream illiterate audience members...#..but now we can strip that away and make it a difficult & alienating foundation of a Classical Education! just like the latin language :)'#anyway maybe there's no such thing as the 'greatest writer of x language' in ANY language?#maybe there are just different styles and yes levels of expertise and skill but also a high degree of subjectivity#and variance in the way that we as individuals and members of different cultures/time periods experience any work of media#and that's okay! and should be acknowledged!!! and allow us to give ourselves permission to broaden our horizons#and explore the stories of marginalized/underappreciated creators#instead of worshiping the List of Top 10 Best (aka Most Famous) Whatevers Of All Time/A Certain Time Period#anyways things are famous for a reason and that reason has little to do with innate “value”#and much more to do with how it plays into the interests of powerful institutions motivated to influence our shared cultural narratives#so i'm not saying 'stop teaching shakespeare'. but like...maybe classrooms should stop using it as busy work that (by accident or designs)#happens to alienate a large number of students who could otherwise be engaging critically with works that feel more relevant to their world#(by merit of not being 4 centuries old or lacking necessary historical context or requiring untaught translation skills)#and yeah...MAYBE our educational institutions could spend less time/money on shakespeare critical analysis and more on...#...any of thousands of underfunded areas of literary research i literally (pun!) don't know where to begin#oh and p.s. the modern publishing world is in shambles and it would be neat if schoolwork could include modern works?#beautiful complicated socially relevant works of literature are published every year. it's not just the 'classics' that have value#and actually modern publications are probably an easier way for students to learn the basics. since lesson plans don't have to include the#important historical/cultural context many teens need for 20+ year old media (which is older than their entire lived experience fyi)
