Came across this very informative video about the Hmong/Miao people (for people who like TGCF, this is the culture that Hua Cheng's mother comes from, and that's why Hua Cheng is perceived as this somewhat "exotic" figure in the novel since Miao is an ethnic minority in China). I recommend this video if you're interested in their culture and history :)

Nhia Neng Vang conducts a soul-calling ritual at his home in St. Paul, Minn. on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023. In traditional Hmong spirituality, humans are composed of multiple souls, which may become separated over time. The soul-calling ritual returns them for the new year. (AP Photo/Mark Vancleave)

Never Fall, Never Rise
An AU where XL didn't ascend...but that doesn't mean everything is okay
Cults spring up convinced he's a god even though he isn't, leaving the awkward situation where his father can either anger the Heavens or the rapidly growing population of people who worship his son...(spoiler: he chooses the people)
XL ends up being constantly in danger of people trying to "prove" his divinity.
Things this story includes:
Characters all living at the same time for the fun of it (also I wanted SQX and the Xianle Trio interactions) and worldbuilding to fit
HC growing up and not dying (also finding a way to circumvent his fate and becoming immortal adjacent) (obviously he joins the baby cults for a bit before leaving)
Examinations of characters' families whether mentioned or not (including HX and FX and to a degree HC's as well)
Rivals to lovers Fengqing
XL & QYZ friendship (and salty AF QR)
HC getting what he deserves~ (he gotta work for it though)
Hualian together (like around each other, not romantically) pretty much since the Land of the Tender incident
HC living a double life since he's about 16 lol (one as Wu Ming, the loyal bodyguard and brat and the other as Lord Hua, the self made city master who everyone is afraid of)
HC using magic as a human (mostly glamours for himself and E-ming but occasionally making magical items like his dice as well)
JL is FX's legal concubine (for her own protection, he didn't want to take one) and Cuocuo gets to live and grow
No one dying unnecessarily (that doesn't mean no one suffers...)
And much more!!
However: I should warn you that this is an Omegaverse au (it wasn't supposed to be but it ended up making the most sense for ONE THING and the worldbuilding got away from me.)

Twin Cities, MN gets singled out as a White city a lot, I think we should diversify our portfolio of Midwest Cities to hate.
We should bring back memes dunking on Cedar Rapids, or West Des Moines.
Any of my followers live in Midwest's Little Egypt? It's EXTREMELY lacking in diversity because the vibes there corroborate Nikola's Tesla's death blast claims, so everyone moved out.
the Twin Cities are hardly New Orleans but they're still a pretty diverse and beautiful metro area.

You can't tell me this isn't discrimination because this is happening every time I go shopping now. Cashiers will instantly change their voice when they are checking out the non-Asian customers behind me. It's fine if they don't use a customer service voice with me, but it's clear they're treating me completely different and the customers behind me aren't always friendly either.

No one wants me. No one would want me.
I'm gonna make it so I don't need anyone.
I don't know daddy. Mommy isn't around. That's why... you don't need anyone Nana.
People might hate me. Then they talk behind my back. After all, that's all I'm worth.

#on one hand i'm not supposed to have an identity out-of-sys#for masking purposes#that's like. my job ! and i'm fine with that. I don't want to want something else.#but also like.#i'm bored. and it feels weird to personal post on side As Gin because i'm Not Gin#but like#i Am Gin#and i want to be treated as such. not as kou.#so i can't really post here either?#bc it reminds people i'm kou#you know#ough#unrelated but i have mixed feelings about the name#like#it can be from Many different languages and i'm not particular on which you interpret it as#but like.#it means gold in hmong. this is the primary reason i chose it. which is like. paying homage to the OG name (gin)#and gin means silver. but it supposedly comes from/is related to jin (chinese; it can be spelt as 金; meaning gold)#i also considered yin (chinese; can be spelt as 银; meaning silver) but i think any name that sounds like gin is a no-go#and like. there's a weird line to walk when it comes to culture and identity w DID yk. because there's the lived experience and there's als#the identity factor yk#and like. i get a little more lenience from the Greater Online System Community bc the body is a POC.#but like. it's hard to find a name i find a connection to without feeling like i'm appropriating???? you know.#like my identity or whatever is not comparable to the lived experience but it exists nontheless#like yeah western names with the same meaning exist but a lot of them just don't. fit??? does that make sense#i might change up the name. idk. i like kou. but yk.#; kou

“This is my National Costume. I am so proud to wear this beautiful and amazing costume.
It combined 3 big ethnic groups together such as Khummou Lao, Lao Lum and Hmong Lao. It show the united of Lao people that we come together at one.”
Side note: the musical instrument here is a very important instrument to the Hmong people. It is used for funerals and special celebrations.

"do the jewish people not deserve a homeland" is such an obvious bad faith argument because it assumes a premise that nobody believes (every ethnicity on earth must have its own state) is in fact universally believed and to deny its application in this one case is a special prejudice. when of course not even the people making this argument believe that--if they did, they'd go around all day clamouring for an ethnostate for bretons or tuvans or hmong. the only purpose of that question is to falsely imply that whatever it's said in response to (in 100% of cases, an expression of support for palestinian liberation) must be a covert expression of antisemitism as a way to avoid engaging with the statement itself
