Wait, what do the neighbours do to more or less get money? Like what do they do for quests wise?

Howdy's tavern has a board where people can post jobs/quest requests - a lot like in Fairy Tail! a lot of times requests are sent in the mail to any tavern/area that will post them, so you gotta be quick about responding before anyone else does. if the posting was sent in, they have to reply via some form of message to confirm it and essentially say "dont let anyone else take the job, i'm/we're on my/our way"

the quests/jobs have a wide range. sometimes its like "collect this item for me", sometimes its "bodyguard me & my belongings while i travel", and it can be "kill the monster terrorizing my town." it can be anything! it's a mixed bag!

and its a little risky, too. the job postings arent always... In Depth. one time the Neighborhood rushed somewhere because the posting just said HUGE EMERGENCY, LIVES IN DANGER but in reality it was an elderly farmer who had them build a new coop for her chickens before the winter frost. then another time it was all "id like help with a small issue at our town's border" and then the Neighborhood got there and it was a fuckoff huge dragon that they were Not prepared to handle.

the Neighborhood doesnt just take job postings though! their travels often take a while because they'll get into shenanigans/trouble, or in completing one job something else will be asked of them, etc. they also don't always do it for money. if someone's in trouble while they're traveling, theyre gonna help without asking for compensation.

#sometimes their jobs/quests start at home base #sometimes they have to travel #sometimes someone will even arrive asking specifically for them!#the length of their travels also varies wildly #sometimes its a couple days #sometimes its a couple months #one time they didnt return to home base for a year #now THAT was an adventure #rambles from the bog #wh fantasy au #the neighborhood is known for being capable and very helpful #so theyre lowkey celebrities! theyre the pride of their lil town <3 #but yeah their skills and time tends to be in high demand #people will sometimes send their requests specifically to howdy's tavern #in the hopes of the neighborhood picking it up #but yeah honestly they do more Unpaid stuff than paid #they're always doing a coin check - who has what & can they afford a hot meal at an inn #all of them crouched in a circle counting out their collective money after a completed job #thats why theyre always happy when howdy joins - he rakes in So much extra shine #also hes their friend. but with him around they can afford to sleep in beds #oh my god howdy is the neighborhoods sugar daddy #sugarpillar....

Kim really doesn’t know what the fuck he’s doing.

But Kim wants to know how Porchay is doing. The bodyguard at the compound that he has reporting back to him tells him Porchay has been spending some of his time in the medical wing of the compound, assisting here and there where he can. He’s also been spending time in the kitchen, helping prepare meals and learning to cook. And in the gardens, helping out there too.

And sometimes he spends the evenings with Tankhun, doing God knows what, because no one Khun hasn’t invited directly is allowed into his rooms.

The guard does not tell him if Porchay is still making music.

Shit. What does that even mean? Is Porchay… not fine?

How does he even respond to that? What was he thinking, trying to talk to Porchay like this?

Kim really does not know what he’s doing.

I'll never be against an athlete choosing the job with the higher salary (hello, tons of regular people do that every day, I might do it myself one day if offered the chance) but I'll be honest, when the lesser offer is still a 7 numbers figure, I'm not going to think that that offer is a bad one.

#yes this is about fabio and deep down yes I understand his choice and no I don't think this is about just the money #of course it's also about pride (factory seat) and staying with the team he's won with and that he considers family #I get that!!!#and yes motogp riders should be paid more when you compare them with other racing series #but I think it's a little out of touch to not consider a salary in millions (besides all the brands deal) something already huge #esp when some moto2/moto3 riders have to PAY for their seat #and I don't even want to know about what's in wsbk riders' contracts #and I'm not saying this only about motorsport #the base contract for an nhl player is like 800k or something #even if he just plays 4th line/3rd pairing minutes #yes they can get injured and out of job in a snap of fingers #and I have read so many stories about former athletes going broke because they can't manage their money #(and yes sure maintaining a high lifestyle cost more and they spend more money but be real with me we're still talking millions here)

I got an ad for joining the NPS for a summer job, and maybe I read fire watch au too recently because my first thought was “you want me to do that? Grian did and look what happened. He found the dead body of his best friend and nearly died in a wildfire”

i always find it so funny whenever people send me an ask or write a review that to some effect implies i scared them off of hiking/camping/backpacking/seasonal jobs because honestly the entirety of Firewatch AU is written with the context that me, the author, is someone who is barely holding themselves back from applying to every NPS or FS job listing on USAjobs because I already have a job. every now and then i haunt the job listings for fun

Anyway to be absolutely fair, Scar did that for like 8 years and never had any of this happen to him, so maybe Grian's just the unlucky one LOL

#dont join the nps or the fs if you want a high paying job though 😔 they are rated as one of the lowest graded agencies in the country #grade as in GS level as in 'amount you will be paid'#NPS apparently gives management positions at GS8 that other agencies give GS14 for.....#but DO join them if you wanna work outdoors maybe and maybe in a pretty place #< which is why they keep underpaying all their staff; they know their staff Wants to work there. people at the IRS? a little different #quara asks

My previous neighbors in my hometown left to get high paid jobs in dubai. And another guy i know is now doing the same and moving to bahrain

All of them cite the high pay and no income tax as a strong draw but you know, two out of three here have girlfriends, how the fuck do you move your gf with you to a muslim kingdom/emirate….

#i think europeans moving there in general have something seriously wrong with them #but these are all oil rich countries with low innovation and research production #so im not surprised they need to recruit high paid western expats for some jobs #and on the other side exploit african/south asian low wage workers in what is modern slavery

this is such an indulgent au I made for myself that's not even related to selfshipping but i love to imagine the dexholders in a filipino school setting where some of the kids are part of the class officers and this is definitely based on my irl experiences with my old class when I was elementary to... freshman. <3

#ill just ramble in the tags from here on out #the class batch counts from the kanto to the hoenn dexholders - since they're all the most tied to one another #the officer list might change but the ones ive definitely settled were like #blue. he's the president of the class - he's quiet smart but handsome and would be a teacher's pet because he's also oak's grandson #red is vice president - he's a goofy compared to blue but he still has that vibe of someone you can absolutely rely on (and he does it)#would sometimes get told off by blue for being too carefree with his duties but they still go well together as a duo #i think i wrote secretary for crystal!! since crystal would definitely have a lot of biodata on her pokemon #it's only natrual that she'd be pretty good at being a secretary #in my class being a secretary means to keep track of students' attendances and names - basically writing a lot of things!#she's the smartest i like to think shes probably in the same ranking as blue (high honor students)#red is around the middle #green is the treasurer! Thinking abt the other day at work where one of my tables (2 middle aged white women) asked to speak to the manager bc they had to wait like a few more minutes than usual for their food (there was one cook in the kitchen and they got shit that takes a while to cook anyway) and then they said I "disappeared" and never checked on them in the maybe 10 minutes they were eating. bc I was in the back doing backups and silverware. And they tipped me like $3 after getting the manager to discount their $30 bill for literally nothing

And then LATER that day I had a table (3 middle aged or older asian men) who came in before we got busy and then I fucked up their order bc they wanted 3 of everything they ordered and I only put in 1 of everything bc I couldn't hear the guy ordering very well (i thought one person was getting a soup one getting wings and one getting steak not 3 of each) and the other two had to wait an HOUR for their food bc we got wildly busy when I put the rest in and it was like explicitly bc I fucked up and I told them that and they were so nice and still paid the whole like $200 bill and tipped me like $50 without like any complaints at all

INSANE tonal whiplash in one day
