Madness - Chapter 7
Warning: violence, mention of past abuse, swearing etc
I hope you enjoy the new chapter :)
In the best interest of preserving peace within Navarre, no more than three cadets carrying rebellion relics may be assigned to any squad of any quadrant.
– Addendum 5.2, Basgiath War College Code of Conduct
In addition to last year’s changes, marked ones assembling in groups of three or more will now be considered an act of seditious conspiracy and is hereby a capital offense.
– Addendum 5.3, Basgiath War College Code of Conduct
“Damn it” I mutter as my toe catches a rock, and I stumble in the waist-high grass that grows alongside the river beneath the citadel. The moon is nice and full, illuminating my way, but it means I’m sweating to death in this cloak to keep hidden, just in case anyone else is out here wandering after curfew. If on my way back from the General someone questioned me why I was out, then I had a good excuse. But now? It would be troublesome.
The Iakobos River rushes with summer runoff from the peaks above, and the currents are fast and deadly this time of year, especially coming out of the steep drop of the ravine. No wonder that first-year died when he fell in yesterday during our downtime. Since Parapet, we lost two first-years.
I move closer to the river, along the ancient line of oaks where I know one vine of fonilee berries will be coming into season soon. Ripe, the purple berries are tart and barely edible but, picked prematurely and left to dry, will make an excellent weapon in Vi’s hands. She knows a lot about poisonous herbs. She has a book that contains dozens of them.
Spotting the boulder I’ve used as a landmark for the past five years, I count the trees on the riverbank. “One, two, three” I whisper, spotting the exact oak I’ll need. Its branches spread wide and high, some even daring to reach out over the river.
It’s strange. The grass is more trampled around the tree, then I expect if Vi was already here.
“Vi?” I whisper “Are you here?”
Silence. Then…
“Aelin?” I see Violet’s head pop out between two branches near the top.
“How do you get up there with your arm?” I raise an eyebrow.
“It wasn’t really that difficult.” She sighs.
“Then I’ll climb up too and help you gather these berries.” I grab a lowest branch and start to climb toward Vi.
The fonilee vines looks deceptively like ivy as it winds up the trunk, but I’ve scaled this particular tree enough times to know this is the one. The tips of the vine leaves are white at this height, barely visible in the mottled through the canopy, but I grin as I see that Vi found a lot of those berries.
“Here” she whispers and hands me a vial.
Then I pluck just enough berries off the vine to fill the glass and shove the stopper back in.
“There. It should be enough to make it through the next challenges.” I hand it back to her.
“I collected mushrooms and other items, so I’m set for about a month.” She packs back the vial in her bag.
“Good. You’re a genious Vi.” I grin at her and start to climb down the tree.
I’m almost down the tree, only a handful of branches to go, when I spot movement beneath me and pause.
I signal Vi to stop. She pauses and looks at me quiestioningly. I point down and signal her to be silent.
Hopefully it’s just a deer.
But it’s not.
Two figures in black cloaks - apparently tonight’s disguise of choice - walk under the protection of the tree.
Maybe it’s a meeting point we didn’t know. It makes sense that the grass was visibly trampled around the tree.
The smaller one leans back against the lowest limb, removing her hood to reveal a half-shaved head of pink hair I know all too well.
Imogen, Violet’s squadmate who nearly ripped off her arm.
My stomach tightens, then knots as the second rider slips off his own hood.
Xaden Riorson.
Oh shit.
There’s a few feet between us. I can’t do anything to conceal us. If they look up surely they’ll see us.
They begin speaking, but I can’t hear what they’re saying, not with the river rushing by. Relief fills my lungs. If I can’t hear them, they can’t hear me either, as long as we don’t move. Imogen probably can’t see us from her place, but Xaden can. Shit, all it takes is for him to look up, and I’ll be toast, literally if he decides to feed me to that Blue Daggertail of his. Maybe Violet is high enough in the tree not to be seen. The moonlight I was thankful for a few minutes ago has now become our biggest liability.
Slowly, carefully, quietly I move out of the patchy moonlight to the next branch over, cloaking myself in shadow. What is he doing out here with Imogen? Are they lovers? But Xaden said that they aren’t. Friends? It’s absolutely none of my business, and yet I can’t help but wonder if she’s the kind of woman he goes for - one whose beauty is only outmatched by her brutality. They fucking deserve each other.
Xaden turns away from the river, as though he’s looking for someone, and sure enough, more riders arrive, gathering under the tree. They’re all dressed in black cloaks as they shake hands. And they all have rebellion relics.
My eyes widen as I count. There are almost two dozen of them, a few third-years and a couple of seconds, but the rest are all firsts. I know the rules. Marked ones can’t gather in groups larger than three. They’re committing a capital offense simply by being together. It’s obviously a meeting of some sort, and I feel like a cat clinging to the leaf-tipped limbs of this tree while the wolves circle below.
Their gathering could be completely harmless, right? Maybe they’re homesick, like when the cadets from the Morraine province all spend a Saturday at the nearby lake just because it reminds them of the ocean they miss so much.
Or maybe marked ones are plotting to burn Basgiath to the ground and finish what their parents started.
’Report them’ I hear the general’s voice in my head.
No. I don’t know what is this meeting, but if it’s something harmless then I can’t do that. They suffered enough because of a Melgren. I don’t want to be like my father. Never.
Shit. Shit. Shit. I have to get closer.
I signal Vi to don’t move as keeping myself on the opposite side of the trunk and sticking to the shadows that wrap around me, I climb down another branch with sloth-like speed, holding my breath as I test each branch with a fraction of my weight before lowering myself. Their voices are still muffled by the river, but I can hear the loudest of them all, a tall, dark-haired man with pale skin, whose shoulders take up twice the space of any first-year, standing opposite Xaden’s position and wearing the rank of a third-year. That’s Garrick? I only see him talk to Liam once, but he’s always by Xaden’s side.
“We’ve already lost Sutherland and Luperco” he says, but I can’t make out the response.
It takes two more rungs of branches before their words are clear. I’m close enough for any one of them to see if they look hard enough - well, except Xaden, since his back is turned toward me now.
I can see familiar faces from my hiding place. Liam. Another squadmate, Ethan. And some first-years whose name I don’t remember.
“Like it or not, we’re going to have to stick together if you want to survive until graduation” Imogen says.
I just happen to value my own life more than I want revenge  at the moment, so I keep my feet to myself.
“And if they’re find out we’re meeting?” a first-year girl with an olive complexion asks, her eyes darting around the circle.
“We’ve done this for two years and they’ve never found out,” Xaden responds, folding his arms and leaning back against the limb below my right. “They’re not going to unless one of you tells. And if you tell, I’ll know.” The threat is obvious in his tone. “Like Garrick said, we’ve already lost two first-years to their own negligence. There are only forty-one of us in the Riders Quadrant, and we don’t want to lose any of you, but we will if you don’t help yourselves. The odds are always stacked against us, and trust me, every other Navarrian in the quadrant will look for reasons to call you a traitor or force you to fail.”
There’s a muttered assent, and my breath hitches at the intensity in his voice. Damn it, I don’t want to find a single thing about Xaden Riorson admirable, and yet here he is, being all annoyingly admirable. Asshole.
Have to admit, it would be nice if a high-ranking rider from my province gave a shit if the rest of us from the province lived or died.
“How many of you are getting your asses handed to you in hand-to-hand?” Xaden asks.
Four hands shoot into the air.
“Shit,” Xaden swears, and I would give anything to see his expression as he lifts a hand to his face.
The big one—Garrick—sighs. “I’ll teach them.” I recognize him now. He’s the Flame Section leader in Fourth Wing.
Xaden shakes his head. “You’re our best fighter—”
“You’re our best fighter,” a second-year near Xaden counters with a quick grin. He’s handsome, with tawny brown skin crowned by a cloud of black curls and a litany of patches on what I can see of his uniform under his cloak. His features are close enough to Xaden’s that they might be related. Cousins, maybe? Fen Riorson had a sister, if I remember correctly. Shit, what was the guy’s name?
“Dirtiest fighter, maybe,” Imogen snarks.
Most everyone laughs, and even the first-years crack a smile.
“Fucking ruthless is more like it,” Garrick adds.
There’s a general consensus of nods, including one from Liam.
“Garrick is our best fighter, but Imogen is right up there with him, and she’s a hell of a lot more patient,” Xaden notes, which is just ludicrous considering she didn’t seem too patient while breaking Violet’s arm. “So the four of you split yourselves up between the two of them for training. A group of three won’t draw any unwanted attention. What else is giving you trouble?”
“I can’t do this,” a gangly first-year says, rolling his shoulders inward and lifting his slim fingers to his face.
“What do you mean?” Xaden asks, his voice taking on a hard edge.
“I can’t do this!” The smaller one shakes his head. “The death. The fighting. Any of it!” The pitch of his voice rises with every statement. “A guy had his neck snapped right in front of me on assessment day! I want to go home! Can you help me with that?”
Every head swings toward Xaden.
“No.” Xaden shrugs. “You’re not going to make it. Best accept it now and not take up more of my time.”
It’s all I can do to smother my gasp, and some of the others in the group don’t bother trying. What. A. Dick. The smaller guy looks stricken, and I can’t help but feel bad for him.
“That was a little harsh, cousin,” the second-year who looks a little like Xaden says, lifting his eyebrows.
“What do you want me to say, Bodhi?” Xaden cocks his head to the side, his voice calm and even. “I can’t save everyone, especially not someone who isn’t willing to work to save themselves.”
“Damn, Xaden.” Garrick rubs the bridge of his nose. “Way to give a pep talk.”
“If they need a fucking pep talk, then we both know they’re not flying out of the quadrant on graduation day. Let’s get real. I can hold their hands and make them a bunch of bullshit empty promises about everyone making it through if that helps them sleep, but in my experience, the truth is far more valuable.” He turns his head, and I can only assume he’s looking at the panicked first-year. “In war, people die. It’s not glorious like the bards sing about, either. It’s snapped necks and two-hundred-foot falls. There’s nothing romantic about scorched earth or the scent of sulfur. This”—he gestures back toward the citadel—“isn’t some fable where everyone makes it out alive. It’s hard, cold, uncaring reality. Not everyone here is going to make it home…to whatever’s left of our homes. And make no mistake, we are at war every time we step foot in the quadrant.” He leans forward slightly. “So if you won’t get your shit together and fight to live, then no. You’re not going to make it.”
Only crickets dare to break the silence.
“Now, someone give me a problem I can actually solve,” Xaden orders.
“Battle Brief,” a first-year I recognize says softly. Her bunk is only a row away from ours. Shit…what’s her name? There are too many women in the hall to know everyone, but I’m certain she’s in Third Wing. “It’s not that I can’t keep up, but the information…” She shrugs.
“That’s a tough one,” Imogen responds, turning to look at Xaden. Her profile in the moonlight is almost unrecognizable as the same person who shredded Vi’s shoulder. That Imogen is cruel, vicious even. But the way she’s looking at Xaden softens her eyes, her mouth, her whole posture as she tucks a short strand of pink hair behind her ear.
“You learn what they teach you,” Xaden says to the first-year, his voice taking a hard edge. “Keep what you know but recite whatever they tell you to.”
My brow furrows. What the hell does he mean by that? Battle Brief is one of the classes taught by scribes to keep the quadrant up-to-date on all nonclassified troop movements and battle lines. The only things we’re asked to recite are recent events and general knowledge of what’s going on near the front lines. At least I thought so, but after the meeting with the General I have a feeling that there’s a lot more going on than they le us know. Otherwise why would he want me to report everything about Xaden and the marked-ones? And that strange dagger. It’s only logical if all of this is somehow connected.
“Anyone else?” Xaden asks. “You’d better ask now. We don’t have all night.”
I realize then—other than being gathered in a group of more than three, there’s nothing wrong with what they’re doing here. There’s no plot, no coup, no danger. It’s just a group of older riders counseling first-years from their province.
“When do we get to kill Violet Sorrengail and Aelin Melgren?” a guy toward the back asks.
My blood turns to ice. The murmur of assent among the group sends a jolt down my spine.
“Yeah, Xaden,” Imogen says sweetly, lifting her pale green eyes to him. “When do we get to finally have our revenge?”
He turns just enough for me to see his profile and the scar that crosses his face as he narrows his eyes at Imogen. “I told you already, the daughters of generals are mine, and I’ll handle them when the time is right.”
He’ll…handle us? My muscles thaw with the heat of indignation. I’m not some inconvenience to be handled. My short-lived admiration of Xaden is over.
“Didn’t you already learn that lesson, Imogen?” the look-alike Xaden chides from halfway down the circle. “What I hear, that Melgren girl did a number on you on the mat.”
Imogen’s head snaps in his direction. “She was just lucky. Besides Sorrengail’s mother is responsible for the execution of my mom and sister. I should have done more than just snap her shoulder.”
“Her mom is responsible for the capture of nearly all our parents,” Garrick counters, folding his arms over his wide chest. “Not her daughter. Punishing children for the sins of their parents is the Navarrian way, not the Tyrrish.”
„The same goes to Aelin.” Liam interjects with arms crossed.
„And you fucking friends with her. How can you do that?” Another first-year shouts.
„As Garrick said, she’s not responsible for her father’s actions. And she’s not a bad person.” He answers with narrowed eyes.
That’s…kind of him. I mean everybody down there hate me but he isn’t. It seems he’s really my friend. I feel somehow relieved.
“So we get conscripted because of what our parents did years ago and shoved into this death sentence of a college—” Imogen starts.
In case you didn’t notice, they’re in the same death sentence of a college,” Garrick retorts. “Seems like they’re already suffering the same fate.”
“Don’t forget the youngest Sorrengail’s brother was Brennan Sorrengail,” Xaden adds. “She has just as much reason to hate us as we do her. And I heard that Melgren grew up with the Sorrengails.” He pointedly looks at Imogen and the first-years who raised the questions. “And I’m not going to tell you again. They’re mine to handle. Anyone feel like arguing?”
Silence reigns.
„Good. Then get back to bed and go in threes.” He motions with his head, and they slowly disperse, walking away in groups of threes just like he ordered. Xaden is the last to leave.
I draw a slow breath. Holy shit, we just might live through this. But I have to be sure they’re gone. I don’t move a muscle, and signal Violet to do the same as I count to five hundred in my head, breathing as evenly as possible to soften the beats of my galloping heart. Only when I’m sure we’re alone, when the squirrels scurry past on the ground, do I finish climbing from the tree, jumping the last four feet to the grassy floor. Violet is almost down too.
A shadow lunges behind me and I open my mouth to shout Violet to run, but my air supply is cut off by an elbow around my neck as I’m yanked against a hard chest.
’Shit. It hurts.’ I thought as pain shots to my cracked ribs.
“Scream and you die,” he whispers, and my stomach plummets as the elbow is replaced by the sharp bite of a dagger at my throat.
I freeze. I’d recognize the rough pitch of Xaden’s voice anywhere. “Fucking Melgren.” His hand yanks back the hood of my cloak.
“How did you know?” My tone is outright indignant, but whatever. If he’s going to kill me, I’m not going down as some simpering little beggar.
He scoffs. “I command shadows, idiot.” He lowers the knife and steps away. „You can come down too, Sorrengail.”
I gasp and briefly touch my ribs. Shit. He eyes my hand curiosly as I lower it as soon as I can. He knows that something is not right. It will give him an advantage.
“Your signet is a shadow wielder? And „idiot”? What happened with the sunshine?” I step away from him, closer to Violet, who lands behind me.
No wonder he’s risen so high in rank. Shadow wielders are incredibly rare and highly coveted in battle, able to disorient entire drifts of gryphons, if not take them down, depending upon the signet’s strength.
“What, Aetos hasn’t warned you not to get caught alone in the dark with me yet?” His voice is like rough velvet along my skin, and I shiver, then draw my own blade from the sheath at my thigh and raise it, ready to defend us to the death.
“If it hadn’t occured to you than Dain and I aren’t exactly friends.” I roll my eyes. „Is this how you plan to handle us?”
“Eavesdropping, were we?” He arches a black brow and sheathes his dagger like I couldn’t possibly pose a threat to him, which only serves to piss me off even more. “Now I might actually have to kill you.” There’s an undertone of truth in those mocking eyes.
This is just…bullshit.
“Then go ahead and get it over with.” I unsheathe another dagger, this one from beneath my cloak where it was strapped in at my ribs, and back up a couple of feet to give me distance. Violet moves with me, daggers in her hands.
He pointedly looks at one dagger, then the other, and sighs, folding his arms across his chest. “You really want to fight with me? You barely won over that second-year and I’m way better than him.”
Cocky bastard.
“I’m better than you think. I’m not some damsel in distress.” I flat-out bluster.
“So I see. I’m quaking in my boots.” The corner of his mouth rises into a mocking smirk.
Fucking. Asshole.
Two daggers shots past me and past his head, one on each side. They land solidly in the trunk of the tree behind him.
“You missed.” He doesn’t even flinch.
Shit, Vi. It’s not a good thing to give him more reason to kill us.
“Did I?” I hear Vi behind me. “Why don’t you back up a couple of steps and test that theory?”
Curiosity flares in his eyes, but it’s gone in the next second, masked by cold, mocking indifference.
Every one of my senses is on high alert, but the shadows around me don’t slide in as he moves backward, his eyes locked with hers. His back hits the tree, and the hilts of her daggers brush his ears.
“Tell me again that I missed,” she threatens.
“Fascinating. You look all frail and breakable, but you’re really a violent little thing, aren’t you?” An appreciative smile curves his perfect lips as shadows dance up the trunk of the oak, taking the form of fingers. They pluck the daggers from the tree and bring them to Xaden’s waiting hands.
My breath abandons me with a sharp exhale. He has the kind of power that could end us without him having to so much as lift a finger —shadow wielding. The futility of even trying to defend myself against him is laughable. But I can’t let him to kill us so easily. I need to buy some time for Vi to run away.
I hate how beautiful he is, how lethal his abilities make him as he strides toward me, shadows curling around his footsteps. His allure is a warning not to get too close, and I am definitely too close. Switching my grip to the hilts of my daggers, I prepare for the attack. He looks ready to slit open my throat.
„Run, Vi!” I order her as I move as fast as I can, as I cut in his direction with my daggers.
He easily dodges, than with a strong blow at my right hand knocks my dagger out of my hand. Swiftly I turn in the other direction to avoid the another attack. It seems he waited for exactly that as he deals a blow with his fist in my side.
The air rushes of my lungs as I drop on my knees. Bloody hell. I cradle my ribs with my hands as I wheeze for air. If they’re not broken now, they never will be.
“You should find another guardian, it seems the current is useless.” He says to Violet as he approaches her. „Show that little trick to Jack Barlowe,” Xaden says, turning his palms upward and offering her the daggers.
Useless? I flinch. That word… A wave of memories tries to drag me under.
“I’m sorry?” She blinks at him.
This is a trick. It has to be a trick.
He moves closer, and she lifts her blade.
My heart stumbles, the beat irregular as fear floods my system. I need to stand up. I push aside the pain, the memories. I need to help Violet.
“The neck-snapping first-year who’s very publicly vowed to slaughter you,” Xaden clarifies. He reaches under her cloak and slides one blade into the sheath at her thigh, then pulls back the side of her cloak and pauses.
I cautiously step beside Vi with another dagger in hand. When I see his face I pause. It’s…strange.
His gaze locks onto the length of her braid where it falls over her shoulder, and I could swear he stops breathing for a heartbeat before he slides the remaining dagger into one of the sheaths at her ribs.
I feel a pang in my chest. What is this feeling? I’m…jealous? Ridiculous.
“He’d probably think twice about plotting your murder if you threw a few daggers at his head.”
This is…this is…bizarre. It has to be some kind of game meant to confuse me, right? And if so, he’s playing it really fucking well.
He actullay likes Violet? He doesn’t hurt her as he did with me.
“Because the honor of my murder belongs to you?” She challenges. “You wanted me dead long before your little club chose my tree to meet under, so I imagine you’ve all but buried me in your mind by now.”
He glances at the dagger poised at his stomach. “Do you plan on telling anyone about my little club?” His eyes meet hers, and there’s nothing but cold, calculating death waiting there.
“No,” she answers.
„Good.” He steps back and turns to me. „And you Melgren? Can you keep shut your mouth?”
„I won’t tell anyone. But not because of you.” I say while sheathing back my daggers. I don’t think he will kill us now.
“Why not?” He tilts his head to the side, examining my face like I’m an oddity. “It’s illegal for the children of separatist officers to assemble in—”
“Groups larger than three. I’m well aware. I’ve lived at Basgiath longer than you.” I lift my chin.
“And you’re not going to run off to Daddy, and tell him we’ve been assembling?” His gaze narrows on mine.
My stomach twists to the mention of the General.
“You were helping them. I don’t see why that should be punished.” It wouldn’t be fair to him or the others. Was their little meeting illegal? Absolutely. Should they die for it? Absolutely not. And that’s exactly what will happen if I tell. Those first-years will be executed for nothing more than asking for tutoring, and the senior cadets will join them just because they helped. “I’m not going to tell.”
He looks at me like he’s trying to see through me, and ice prickles my scalp. My hand is steady, but my nerves tremble at what the next thirty seconds might bring. He can kill us right here, toss our bodies into the river, and no one will know we’re gone until they find us downstream. But I won’t let him end me without drawing his blood first, that’s for damn sure.
“Interesting,” he says softly, then looks at my chest. „What happend with your ribs?”
„Today was assessment day, you know that well.” I lie fluently, I’m good at that.
„Do you mean the second-year whom you fought cracked your ribs?” He raises an eyebrow?
„What other explanation would there be for it?” I’m playing the dumb.
„That’s what I’m curious too.” He crosses his arms. „I watched your match and except from the bruise on your face, the second-year can’t even laid a hand on you. After that I escorted you to the Healers Quadrant. You stayed there until night and with Sorrengail you gone back to the dorms.” He recites my movements with alarming accuracy. „I doubt that you fought someone in the dorms or one of the first-years told us about it.”
„What? Are you watching me that closely?” I try to dodge the topic. He’s smarter than I gave him credit for, and I already knew he’s not an idiot.
„Of course. You’re a threat to all of us, Melgren.” He says. „So where do you get that injury?”
„It’s none of your business, Riorson.” I grit my teeth.
„You told us after Battle Brief that the General wanted to see you after classes.” He thinks out loud. „Someone caught you on your way to, or back from him?” He asks with narrowed eyes.
Violet gasps and I turn my head to her and see the horrified expression on her face.
Shit. I told her years ago that he stopped doing these kind of things. In reality he doesn’t, I just got better hiding the bruises. And now she knows.
„Who hurt you?” He steps closer, with something wavering in his eyes. It’s…pity, and anger? No, it’s impossible, he wants to kill us.
„I say for a last time in case you didn’t hear me earlier, Riorson.” I hiss at him. „It’s none of your fucking business. And if you won’t kill us tonight then we should go back to the dorms.”
“Hm. We’ll see if you keep your word and keep our secret, and if you do, then unfortunately, it looks like I owe you a favor.” Then he steps away, turns, and walks off, heading back toward the staircase in the cliff that leads up to the citadel. Wait. What?
“You’re not going to handle us?” Violet calls after him, shock raising her brows.
I groan. Vi, for fucks sake.
“Not tonight!” he tosses over his shoulder.
She scoffs. “What are you waiting for?”
“It’s no fun if you expect it,” he answers, striding into the darkness. “Now, get back to bed before your wingleader realizes you’re out after curfew.”
“What?” I gawk after him. “You’re our wingleader!”
But he’s already disappeared into the shadows, leaving me talking to myself like a fool.
„Aelin, is the Gen…” Violet turns to me with panick in her eyes.
„Vi.” I hush her. „We’re not going to talk about it. You probably pieced together what happened but that’s all. Someone can hear us.” I look in her eyes with a serious expression.
„But… There has to be a way to stop him.” She says pleadingly.
Sweet, kind Violet. That’s why a lied to her for years.
„Don’t worry, Vi.” I smile at her. „I will handle it. Everything is going to be alright. I won’t see him for who knows how long. It’s another advantage of this quadrant.”
I can’t tell her the General wants weekly reports. She would get herself into trouble on my behalf. I can’t let it.
„I… Okay.” She sighs. „But if I can help you, than you must tell me!” She says firmly.
„Deal.” I smile warmly at her. „Now come, we need to go back. We deserve a good sleep, it was a long day.” I link our arms as we starts our way back to the dorms.

Chapter 1 - Chapter 2
Chapter 3
All the roads lead to you
Everything in her life was a disaster after the other.
She stood there, helpless and trapped by an iron hand on her forearm while you walked away without never looking back. At that moment, something inside Wanda stirred like knives burning her skin and water drowning her lungs; she never got to see the broken look in your eyes much like you never got to see the desperation in Wanda’s. The world around her came crashing down, and the grip on her arm tightened to remind her of the man still waiting for her.
“Y/N, wait!” It was her last attempt to call out for you, but you were already gone and all that was left was emptiness and a sense of danger Wanda hadn’t felt since ending the affair and her marriage.
“Wanda, love, what are you doing?” Vision towered over her; his hand firmly placed on her forearm to prevent her from moving further away from him.
Vision offered a side smile, and for those who didn’t know him too well it was looking kind and almost playful though his eyes betrayed the real emotions he was experiencing at the moment. Anger and resentment were the most obvious ones, the rest of those emotions Wanda decided it was not worth trying to find out.
It was at that moment that Wanda realized how stupid she had been when dealing with you, she had tried to hide her past with half truths and hidden facts. She never told you the full story of her marriage or the affair, she never told you how she ended up alone in the world and all of a sudden wanting to reclaim those things she had lost. Now she was standing in the middle of her hall, with the very man she had tried to break up months ago and that hadn’t stopped following her around.
“Vision, let me go.”
She faced the man straightening herself up trying to put her arm away without any success. She was thankful with the fact her voice didn’t quiver or hesitate but came out as a command, with all the authority she could muster to the tall man standing beside her.
Vision made a confuse face, his eyes blinked rather rapidly and his smile turned into a cold one as he spoke dangerously low to Wanda.
“But dear, I made dinner and I was hopping we could enjoy this time to clear out our relationship and what would happen now that you’re finally divorced.” Vision tried to put Wanda closer to him, backing towards the open door of the flat. “It wasn’t easy to convince your landlord to let me in, but I got a couple of pictures I took of you, dear, and he was convinced I was the love of your life.”
Everything with Vision had been a game of threats and sweet talking, it was one of the very first things Wanda noticed too late. His comment only made her pale, her mind already going overdrive by the kind of pictures he would have shared with her landlord to get access to her apartment. Her heart shattered some more, and she was trying to look for a way out of this moment in her life because fear weas starting to cloud her judgement, and it was making her weak on her knees.
“Vision! Let me go!” This time around she raised her voice, she was begging her neighbours would catch up in the desperation on her tone and that someone would dare to come forth and see what was happening.
“I don’t know what the hell are you doing here but let me go and leave!” The man stepped back again, dragging Wanda more forcefully this time around. His eyes opened wide and he glanced around to make sure no one was coming out of their apartments.
“Please, dear, let’s not make a spectacle in here. I am not Kevin, I’m not as patient.” He all but lowered his voice, and this time around Wanda did scream.
“Jarvis! Let go of me, NOW!”
Jarvis clenched his jaw when she used his name out loud, his real name. He tried to hold back his anger while dragging Wanda back inside the house, his free hand lift without a clear intention. But before anything happened, before he decided what to do with his free hand a door was heard and a couple of footsteps came forward.
“Hey, Wands! Are you oaky? Need any help?” It was a young voice, and one Wanda was familiar with.
Never before had she felt so grateful to see Peter Parker standing right behind Vision with a scowl adorning his young features. Behind him was Ned who had a baseball bat on his hands while shooting a worry glance at Wanda. Wanda could see the tension growing in Vision, his whole face changed into a rictus of pure anger, his eyes went hard as steel and his voice was supposed to be threatening leaving no argument as to who he was and what he was doing.
“I don’t know who you are, kid, but please this is a matter between my wife and me. Try to not get mingle in things you don’t understand.” He said flatly, not bothering to turn around but keeping his eyes on Wanda.
Peter stepped forward, his shoulders throw back while he tilted his head glancing from Wanda to Vision and then back again.
“I though you divorce your husband, Wands?” Peter feigned ignorance crunching up his nose while speaking loudly. “And he looks nothing like the pics you show me of him.”
It didn’t go lost on Wanda the fact that Peter kept on using your nickname for her. He was trying to build a familiarity with her that Vision could not dispute. Wanda let her green eyes fell on Peter, and she made sure he could read her gratefulness at him being there. At him trying to do something; Wanda realized right there that you really shared everything with your friends. Or at least the general details, she didn’t know if she should be angry because right now that knowledge was working as a leverage against the man who was weighting his options at the moment.
All of a sudden, Vision let go of her.
Wanda stepped back almost falling if it hadn’t been for the man standing behind her. Flash Thompson stood with a frown, he helped Wanda while shooting a quick glance at Peter and Ned then back at Vision.
“Is there a problem in here?” He finally asked directing his eyes to Wanda who could not tear hears from Vision, her left forearm was hurting a little and she knew there would be a bruised there the next day.
Vision shot a glare to Wanda lifting his arms in defeat, “why don’t you tell them, dear? Who am I so we can go inside and discuss this like adults, I did prepare you your favourite for dinner.”
Wanda straightened up, her hand closing around the notebook you had given to her the only thing she had been holding onto to try and get some strength in the midst of this disaster.
“Vision we are over, I already told you this.” Wanda said stepping forward. “Get the hell out of my house before I call the police.”
“My brother is a Sargent in the nearby station, Ms. Maximoff. He wouldn’t have an issue in coming right now.” Flash stated standing firmly behind the young woman.
Wanda was about cry; these kids didn’t even know her very well. She had picked up this appartement because it was cheap and nearby to the university; it was the only thing she could afford while her divorce was over and she got a better position back at work. They didn’t owe her anything, and yet here they were all in defensive positions with their eyes on Vision. All but Peter, of course. The young man had his eyes on Wanda, on his left hand he had his mobile at the ready
“Now, dear, that’s not what you used to say when I make you cum.” He replied nastily, Wanda felt her cheeks burnt in embarrassment and the rest of the males in there shifted uncomfortably but neither one of them moved.
“Fuck you, Jarvis.” Wanda said shaking her head. “Leave, now!”
Peter and Flash stepped forward; Vision clenched his jaw once more before lifting his arms in defeat.
"Fine, I leave but this isn't over. You're not going to ditch me like that good for nothing of a husband you have." Vision said in a low voice sending a heated glare to Wanda before leaving with the apron still on.
Wanda clenched her eyes closed trembling in the middle of the hall, she jerked away rather startled when a hand placed tenderly on her shoulder. Peter Parker was looking at her with a frown in place, soon Ned and Flash circled around her all of them with the same concern stares on their faces.
“Thank you.” She all but whispered.
“Ms. Maximoff, if this guy entered your home without your permission, I think it’s better if you talk to the police.” Flash was looking on his pockets for his wallet, he put a card from it handling it to her. “My brother is really a cop, and I will tell him you will call so he can help you out.”
Wanda melted at the gesture; she offered a smile to the man who blushed looking away.
“Thank you, Flash, really all of you I…” She didn’t know what to say, she was embarrassed her life was once more crumbling under her feet and she wasn’t sure how to go back to her feet.
The only light in her world was you, and she had been ignoring you for quite some time only to have you misinterpreted the situation that day. Peter nodded at Flash and Ned; he didn’t dare to touch Wanda but tried to direct her to her apartment; Wanda didn’t protest hugging herself while finally getting into her home. The smell of paprika was strong inside the place, the dinner and the table had been set and a wave of nausea came right at her.
“Is there anyone or any other place you can stay in for the night, Ms. Maximoff?” Peter asked while going to the kitchen for a glass of water.
Wanda sat down on her chair, her lips curling in a bitter smile.
“What happened to Wands?” She asked and Peter stiffened shaking his head.
“That’s only for Y/N, but I thought it would be a good way to create familiarity.” Peter offered a smile to her while handling her the glass of water.
Wanda winced at the mention of your name, her hand still holding tightly onto the notebook you had given to her. Peter sat downright next to her, his phone on the table with a picture of you and him on your contact number, he was about to call you if necessary. Wanda felt her heart ached at the thought of you knowing this, of you just….
"Are you alright?"  Peter finally asked, and true be told he was worried. He didn’t like one bit what he had seen and he wondered if you knew something about it.
“I’m fine, thank you.” Wanda hesitated for a moment before speaking again. “Peter, Y/N she…I just…”
A flash of realization crossed his eyes, “she doesn’t know about this?”
Wanda shook her head, a watery smile form on her lips.
“It’s just complicated, I just…please, can we keep this between us? I don’t…” Wanda trailed off knowing she was asking too much of Peter, the young man pressed his lips together before speaking.
“I will keep it secret, ma’am, but I can’t keep it forever.” He said taking into a more serious posture, his eyes went to those of Wanda and he understood why you were so attracted to this woman. “Y/N is my best friend and she…I mean, you have changed a lot of things in her and I don’t think it’s fair to keep this from her.”
Wanda nodded in understanding, she glanced at the notebook you gave her. Her lips broke into a tiny smile.
“I will talk to her just…” Wanda didn’t know how to say she didn’t want you to run away, she didn’t want you to finally realize just how damage she was, how Wanda was really not that smart, or funny or beautiful the way you had always made her felt.
She didn’t want you to realize just yet how messed up she was, how everything she touched got destroy by her and finally decided that you were better off without Wanda.
“Very well, as long as I have your word you will talk to her.” Peter then grabbed his phone standing up. “Have you thought about my question? If you don’t have a place, Ned has a spare room and he is leaving today to his parents’ house for the weekend so…”
Wanda blinked away shaking her head, “oh, thank you, Peter. Actually, I do have someone I’ll call her right now. I just…”
Wanda couldn’t believe she would need to leave this place, that she actually was considering talking to the police. Natasha was going to kill her as soon as she called her. Peter stood up and made his way back to the main door, he stopped before going out turning around to Wanda.
“We’re going to be nearby just in case.” He said furrowing his brows, “you know? Y/N really…I mean, it would be nice if stop avoiding her. She had been a little miserable this week because of that.”
Peter left with that and Wanda couldn’t help but wince at the thought of you not understanding why she had been avoiding you. Wanda finally got a chance to examine the notebook you gave her; it was completely black and by the material it was made of it seemed to be quite expensive. With curiosity, she opened the notebook finding in between the pages two silver tickets.
Wanda gasped when she realized what it was.
It was a VIP invitation to the Stark Book Fair. The two invitations came in a notebook where the lines were made with small letters, if Wanda were to read them she would realized it was extracts of different books. The redhead felt her heart skipped a beat when she realized the VIP invitation include full access to the strange and private collections brought to the fair by several personalities of the world.
Including the book she needed it for her dissertation. Wanda clenched her eyes shut biting her lower lip.
God, N/Y is just so…
Wanda really didn’t deserve you, for a rich girl that had everything at her feet from birth you were nothing like the pompous asses she had meet in her life. And certainly, you were nothing like the people she had involved herself with in the past. With a trembling hand she grabbed her phone and dial the one number in that list she knew would help her out no questions asked.
“Hey, Nat how is everything going?” Wanda listened as Natasha started talking about her day then, all of a sudden she stopped.
“What happened?” Wanda let out a sob, she couldn’t stop herself. Natasha grabbed her phone tight. “I’m coming over sweety, you’re at home?”
“Y-yes.”
“I’ll be there in ten.”
“Thank you.” Was all she could whispered before the line went dead.
She really wished her life was not a fucking mess like it was right now, she really wished there was something she could offer you instead of trouble and a broken person.
_____________________________________________________________
The moment you got home you decided you didn’t want to talk to anyone.
You left your phone on the kitchen counter and started taking your wet clothes leaving them on the floor while directing your heavy footsteps to the bathroom. The warm shower was refreshing on your cold skin, it helped you clear out your thoughts and washed away the tears you had shed while driving back home.
You didn’t know why you were so surprised; it was obvious Wanda was with his lover. That was one of the reasons why she had divorced, right?
You weren’t even sure anymore, the hope you had harboured with this woman had grown out of proportion in your heart and you allowed emotions that were putting you in a very dangerous position at the moment. You munched on the cup of ice cream you had served while putting on some movie.
You felt stupid, really.
It had been two months of you trying to get a woman that was obviously completely straight, and completely spoken for probably by the man she had been cheating on her husband with. You were just the lost puppy she thought adorable, a friend that obviously had a huge crush on her. It had been so long since you let yourself feel in such a way, not since high school you allowed your emotions to rampant and unhinge for someone you barely knew.
Last time had been a disaster, and this was the self-fulfilling prophecy that said the past repeated itself.
With a heavy heart and ignoring the vibrations coming from your mobile you decided you needed time to think, and that was what you were going to give yourself.
Time.
*****
Three days was all it took for you to get your thoughts in order, and a decision as to what you should do in regard to the situation at hand.
You had come to terms with your feelings, in the little time you had gotten to know Wanda you realized your crush had grown into something more complex and undefined. It was not love, but it was closer. At first you panic, the woman had a boyfriend and you were not about to come in between that relationship for two reasons: first, Wanda was straight. Second: you didn’t stand a chance because you didn’t have a penis.
That was it.
You knew this discussion needed to be had with Kate and the others, but for the time being you were your own councillor and you didn’t think your own advice was that bad. Not at all. You were going to stop pursuing a romantic relationship, but you would continue the friendship; regardless of everything you felt, there was affection in your heart for the older woman and you really weren’t ready to stop that friendship. To stop seeing her.
The phone on the kitchen counter came to life, finally able to show you the unread messages and the hundredth and a thousand missed calls you had from Tony, Kate, America, Kamala, Peter and…Wanda?
Your heart skipped a beat at this, soon your realized there were several messages from her, all of them with the same kind of content.
Can we talk? Are you there? Are you avoiding? I’m sorry, I stop bothering you now.
Now this in itself was strange, but no unheard of.
You disappeared for three days so perhaps Wanda wanted to just say thank you for the tickets. Nothing strange there, you chewed on your lower lip while you started answering messages in the order of importance. First was Kate, and then was Tony.
Not sooner had you answer his message, your phone rang and the picture of Tony, Pepper and Morgan flashed before your eyes. Your lips broke into a content smile as you answer the call, your feet directing you to the cabinets and the fridge.
“She is alive!”  Tony’s voice came right though the phone, you chuckled preparing yourself a sandwich while rolling your eyes at your brother’s antics.
“Barely, I think I need to go to the store for more food, I’ve been surviving on peanut butter and jam sandwiches.” You replied giving your sandwich the first bite. This was a lie, of course, you had asked for take-out and you also eat some flan and more ice cream. But Tony didn’t need to know this.
“I really hope you’re kidding, Y/N, or I will go down there to drag you here and make sure you’re feeding correctly.”
“Hello to you to, Pepper.” You smiled softly, your chest warming up with affection. “So, should I wait for the SWAT team anytime soon or were you just exaggerating your love for me?”
Tony chuckled clearing his throat, “I was told I could not use government property just because my little sister was mopping.”
“I wasn’t mopping.” You made a face knowing Tony would never believe it, you usually did this when you were, in fact, mopping.
“Aja, Kate gave us a quick glance to what has been happening and why you haven’t answer any of our calls since Monday.” There was a short pause then Tony continued. “How are you holding up, kiddo? How did it go with the tickets I got you? I guess something happened but you decided to deal on your own.”
“Kate is worried, so I suggest you call her after this phone call.”
You made a face knowing Pepper was talking seriously, the older woman had always liked Kate and she had always tried to set the both of you up ever since finding out you were gay. It would never happen, though. You loved Kate with all your heart, but you could never feel for her anything else but friendship. Sisterly love even.
“I will, don’t worry.” You munched on your sandwich playing with your phone answering some of the messages until your eyes fell again on the one from Wanda. “The tickets were a hit, tony. I think she is going with her boyfriend.”
There was a long pause and you knew Tony and Pepper were interchanging knowing glances. You wished you were not so easy to read, but there was no avoiding this.
“But I’m fine, don’t worry, I just…I need to clear my head, things didn’t go my way and instead of parting and going around sleeping with everything that moves, I decided to meditate.”
Pepper started laughing when Tony gasped in indignation.
“Is that an accusation? I taught you everything you need to know! And this is how you repaid me? Throwing my past in my face?!” You chuckled alongside Pepper.
“She got you there, you know? You were kind of childish while dealing with rejection.” Pepper laughed some more and soon Tony mocked argue with her.
You lowered your gaze hating the piercing pain on your chest at the word ‘rejection’.
“Anyway, guys, I’m fine. Really.” You trailed off before continuing. “I was thinking I could go over there tomorrow night. I mean, I miss Morgan and you guys, and I think we need to fix some details for the auction, so I was hoping…”
“Absolutely, baby sis, I was actually going to propose it. I want to see you, and I know Morgan is dying to create mischief with you.”
You chuckled missing your niece already, finally there was a weight lifted from your shoulders. Talking to Tony and his family always brought comfort to you, knowing that whatever happened they would always be there.
“Good, I think we could also work on the last detail of your first event, I want you to be prepared because from now on you will run most of the show at Stark Industry.”
Tony spoke excitedly about his plans for you and the oncoming event, you had always known this was part of the things he wanted for you. He had always been proud of the path you choose in life, and that was why he never pressed you to take care of some of the family business until you were ready. Like now. It had been you the one who proposed the auction, and it had been you the one who asked to be a part of the family business.
You rolled your eyes smiling at Tony’s long rant.
Your phone vibrated once more, your heart speed up at the name on the screen.
Wanda.
Please, can you talk to me? I’ve been trying to…I just…
Are you avoiding me?
If I promise a double chocolate drink with chocolate chips and whipped cream would you talk to me?
The last message made you smile, whenever you asked for that one she would only said…
Though I still think is too much sugar. She sent the last message that actually brought a huge smile to your face. Yep, she always said that.
“What do you say?” Tony trailed off waiting for your answer.
“It sounds perfect, I think we can handle that.” You hesitated for a moment before unlocking the phone and opening the chat.
I'm not avoiding you.
You held the phone anxiously, Tony speaking in the background. Soon the typing signal appeared and you were waiting for the answer.
"Kid then I expected you tomorrow, and we will see how we worked the details.” Tony went silent for a moment before continuing. “Take care, and don’t go missing without informing me first, okay?”
“Will do, Tony. Next time I’m mopping I will tell you.” You replied amusedly. “Bye Tony, see you tomorrow.”
The line went dead and your eyes were glued to the conversation you were having with Wanda. You couldn’t help the tingles going around your body and chest, the fluttering butterflies in your stomach at her response.
I knew chocolate was the key to get you to talk to me.
You sighed holding back your smile, trying to remember Wanda had a boyfriend that wore a stupid apron and was waiting for her at her apartment probably with dinner and hot, heavy sex.
That's a dirty tactic, not even Kate dares to do so much.
Wanda sent you a pleased emoji before writing again.
Well, I'm glad I could use it to get your attention.  There was a pause and then she was typing again.
Y/N I want to apologise about the other day.
You furrowed your brows unsure as to why she was apologising for, your fingers hesitated for a moment before writing the next message.
You don't have to say anything, I mean I… you know?  I can of get it now but…I mean, your boyfriend…
NO!
Wanda wrote the word several time, your heart jumped in your chest when all of a sudden your phone rang and the ID came with Wanda’s name and phone number. You almost dropped the phone before picking up the line.
"I didn't want you to go that day, I really wanted to talk to you to…God, you left before I could explain and before I could thank you for the gift.”  Wanda all but blurted out before you could even say hi.
You sat on the chair pursing your lips, her voice with a tinge of desperation and something else you couldn't identify
"Hey, Wands, you don’t need to explain anything to me, I mean…”
You heard the huffed of exasperation coming from the other end, you could imagine her frustration, the crunched-up nose and you just clenched your eyes shut knowing you were screw.
"Look I think we need to talk." Wanda finally said with finality, you cringed shaking your head.
You didn't think you need a public confirmation of anything.
"I don't think…" You started but Wanda spoke above you with a hint of plead in her tone.
“Please? Look, I even have a great proposal for you.”
You furrowed your brows, your mind already giving in to accept whatever the woman offered you.
“Okay, I’m listening.”
“I got my hand on two VIP invitations to the Stark Book Fair.” She said and you could almost hear the smile on her face as she said this, you smiled back hearing as she continued. “I know how much you like history and books, and these invitations are free access to private collections, so I was hoping you could come with me.”
“I thought you have a hot date for that?” You replied softly, there was a heavy sigh at the other end.
“She kind of ditch me last minute.” Wanda said just as softly as you had spoken a moment ago. “She left before I could explain what she saw and now…well, I’m trying to get her to talk to me, I’m not sure is working.”
You closed your eyes for a moment, what the hell was happening? Explain what? Your heart was hammering hard against your chest and after a minute or two of silence you spoke again. Wanda said she instead of him. God…
“You should ditch her too, come with me? I bet I’m more fun than her.” You couldn’t help the flirty tone in your tone, she laughed lightly almost sobbing through the line.
“I don’t doubt that. I just wish she could…her friendship these last months have been important to me.” Wanda said softly. “That’s why I was so…I wanted to talk to her.”
“Well, this event sounds perfect, you know? Perhaps, you should take her and she would talk to you.” You replied letting out a heavy sigh. “So, how about you try inviting her over and if she really is that much of an idiot to say not to you, I could take her place.”
Wanda laughed again, and you enjoyed the sweet sound of her laughter. Wanda cleared her throat taking a moment before speaking again.
“Do you think she will come with me?”
“If you ask nicely and bring that chocolate drink you promise, I’m betting she would say yes.”
There was a moment of silence, Wanda wrapped her hand tight around the phone before asking the question.
“How about I go pick her up to her home, I take the drink, and we can go to the Book Fair?” By now, Wanda was sounding quite serious, you chewed on your lip thinking over your options.
It had been your idea in the first place, and the tickets were supposed to work as a bridge to either expand your relationship with her or stablished the friendship. You closed your eyes knowing you really were screw and were not able to even keep up your own conditions for this friendship.
“Tell you what, I pick you up but you still have to buy me my chocolate drink?”
“I’m starting to think all of this is only for the drink.” Wanda sounded slightly amused, though you could detect the doubt in her tone.
“Of course, it’s about the chocolate beverage, Wands! Have you tried it?” You replied lightly, Wanda chuckled.
“Right, I think I can live with that, then.”
There was another moment of silence in which the both of you let your insecurities and whatever else was happening between the both of you to get in the way. You chewed on your lower lip before speaking again.
“So, tomorrow let’s say at 10am?” You asked softly, Wanda took a deep breath before answering.
“That sounds good.”
“Good, then tomorrow at your place…”
“I…I’m not living there anymore.” This revelation caught you by surprised, you blinked a couple of times unsure on how to proceed but it was Wanda the one that took care of it. “I’ll send you the address, and…yeah, I think we can talk about everything tomorrow.”
For the first time you noticed there was something different, something that you were probably missing. She was sounding, strange almost tired and a little sad; could it be something happen with her boyfriend? Her ex-husband?
God, this really was a mess.
“Hey, Wands, are you alright?” You finally asked because you knew there was something strange about her.
The older woman remained silent for a moment before speaking, “I….no, I’m not. But I don’t wanna talk about it right now.”
You made your way to your sofa, the sight of the city at night had always been soothing in your world. You sat down on the sofa putting your earphones to go through your phone while speaking with the other woman.
“Do you want me to hung up or do you think we can talk about something I just discover?” You asked all of a sudden, your heart felt lighter when you heard her laughed and her voice was now warmer. Tender.
“Yeah, let’s talk about your most recent discovery.”
“Well, it turns out that Criminal Minds is right.” Wanda snorted at the other end of the line, and you knew you already had her hooked in the conversation.
The rest of the night, up until you realized she had fallen asleep with the phone on her hand and your phone was showing it was 2 am. You clenched your eyes closed passing a hand through your hair, what the hell were you doing?
You gave the screen one last glance before going to bed.
You were not about to think about that, not when you had spent a good night and you and Wanda seemed to be going strong with that friendship. Yep, nothing else. Nothing more.

jumbo reading challenge update #3
Tumblr media
This post has been sitting in my drafts for months. I have procrastinated posting this update for so long. I still have no plans for the rest of the challenge and I am trying to fit in the books I am reading randomly, so I have no idea if I will complete the challenge by the end of the year. I surely didn't expect to be 75% done with it in the first half of the year. Here are the links to my first and second updates on this challenge.
The Priory Of The Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon for the high fantasy prompt:
I don't know where I got the courage to approach a 800 page book, but I am surely happy I did. This is one of the best books I read this year. Challenging my fear of big books is teaching me how immersive they can be, and how special the reading experience becomes. This fantasy book in particular is very well made, I would even recommend it to people who don't read a lot of epic fantasy. I cannot wait for the sequel to be translated so that I can get it (I know I could get it anyway but I want matching editions).
Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman for the main character of color prompt:
This was the last unread book in my Gaiman bookshelf (which means I have to look for the books my collection is still missing). For some reason I procrastinated reading this book for years. I am happy I finally picked it up, but it was definitely not my favourite novel by this author. I was expecting something along the lines of American Gods, which is not the case. It's an entertaining novel, but I prefer darker fantasy.
Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney for the horror or thriller prompt:
I listened to the audiobook for this novel, which was made pretty well. It's a story inspired by And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, which is one of my all time favourite novels. I was a bit scheptical at first, but it wasn't as bad as I feared. After reading it I was a bit confused over my feeling for this novel, especially for the big twist at the end. It's now been a while and I can say that although the audiobook was very entertaining and well paced, I am not a big fan of the ending. I see what the author was trying to do, and I am prersonally not a fan. But it wasn't that bad.
Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton for the minimalistic cover prompt:
This book was surprisingly fun. While reading it I was a bit frustrated with a couple of things that felt very stupid, but to be honest after finishing it it made sense. It's one of those lighthearted adventurous books that needed a couple of silly things to work and it's fine. As I said it was really fun. I feel like it would be a great pick for a summer read, so much so that I am considering reading the sequel this summer.
Through The Woods by Emily Carroll for the clever cover prompt:
This was a rererad for me. I got this book last year and loved it, and since in the past month or so I have been in a big graphic novel rereading mood this felt perfect. I picked it for this prompt because the longer you look at the cover the more you notice some hidden detail. The art in this book is amazing, and it's overall one of my favourite graphic novels I own, it's the perfect gothic horror with fairytale vibes, I couldn't ask for more.
Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe for the non-binary author:
I am so happy to have this in my graphic novel collection. It's a very special addition, it was very insightful and emotional, and I know for a fact that I will be rereading this book more than once. I very much recommend picking this up. I felt like it did a great job at giving an idea of what it's like to question your sexuality and gender, how complicated and scary it can be, but also how joyful it is.
She Who Became The Sun by Shelley Parker Chan for the pun in the title prompt:
When I realized there was a pun in this book title my brain expoded. It's genious. The story of a girl who takes the identity of her brother to claim his destiny, becoming "the son", I loved it. I loved all characters. There's a light fantasy element that I hope will see more of in the sequel. Overall it's a very well done and engaging historical fantasy, and the gender in this is amazing. There's very interesting parallels, really strong characters that completment each other, it was a great read that I will be recommending a lot.
The House In The Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune for the water in the title prompt:
This book has been often described as part of the cozy fantasy genre, and honestly it's a great way to describe it. I really enjoyed my time with this book, it was the perfect lighthearted read I needed.
The individual book reviews are linked in the titles above as usual.

Genre: Fantasy adventure
What is it about: A boy named Kaiki who gets recruited by a magical hidden society named Onemia, and relutantly becomes a magician. In Onemia, however, things are not exactly paceful, since an old-time enemy seems to be active again... A very basic plot, but its originality is not the main work here
Who is in it:
Kaiki (he/him) - Main Character, a trans boy with some trauma bagage and really No Special Magic, Powers or Heritage at all. He's just a random boy who became a magician by coincidence. He is a perfect hero, by the way. I mean, he's shy, he's got some confidence issues and he's a softie. Aside from that, he is Not Special. I made sure of that. Not sure how he defeats Villain thought.
Arielle (they/she) - A powerful, but young Onemian magician who's also the one to find Kaiki and send him to Onemia. She has military training (her job is to maintain peace in the non-magic world) and is also one of the closest people to Kaiki in all the nation.
Lis (she/her) - abrosexual, thought mostly hetero. She's an albino cis girl with some inferiority complexes, a magical genious and a chaotic dumbass. She is besties with Kaiki and Arielle.
Simba (he/him) -

Eyes In The Dark
"You sure about this, Donald?"
"Of course," Donatello doesn't even look up from his tablet, ", this time we got it."
This time. Leo feels like he has heard that an hundred times already. Mournfully, he doesn't have the energy to point that out. They have been in this Hunt for hours now, without any trace of their price. They should have stayed in the Hidden City and Hunt Down the real thing: pizza. Leo almost had it in his hands: warm, cheese pouring at the edges, the smell. Looking like pure sin and smelling like the sweetest of blessings, Leo could almost taste it... And then Don's alarm went off.
Not like any other that Leo had hear before, but even with all their questions his twin refused to say what the alarm was even for, he just dragged them out of Hidden City into a chase for a ghost.
And truly, they have been at this for hours without sight or sound of the thing that has Donald on edge.
And Donald is... being very intense, even for them.
Full of maniatic energy and looking from his tablet to his surroundings, a glint in his eyes that means he will not let this down and is actually enjoying this challenge. Challenge against what? Leo has no idea.
A ghost? A leaked gas? An invisible threat? WHAT? Some yokai? A mystic unknown force? Some type of genious vs genious contest?
"Dee," Mikey whines from his place in Raph's back, "We've run all of New York by now."
"No, we didn't."
"But we will?" Raph asks cautiously, and the silence of their bother is enough answer. "Don!"
"I'm hungry!" Leo shouts, raising his arms and trying to make his twin look at him. "And we promised Casey we would bring him pizza!"
He has no victory, even with bringing Casey into the mix. Shame.
Don keeps walking, eyes going from his tablet to the sides, searching for something Leo is sure is not there.
"D, maybe we need to start considering that your thingy is..." Don's eyes pierce trought his own so fast and hard that Leo's words die in his tongue.
"What? My 'thingy' is what , dear brother of mine?"
Leo stops, sparing a glance to his other two brothers. Mikey, bless his soul, gives him thumbs up, but Raph grimaces, clearly not wanting to go that route. Leo inhales, irritation in his nerves when a drop of water lands on his head. Great. Rain.
"We're hungry, hermano mío, hungry and cold and bored." Leo doesn't whines, he a grown turtle and a bad ass warrior and none of those things whines but he is close. "And it's starting to Rain!"
Don doesn't seem impressed, raising one of his fake ass eyebrows and Leo feels attacked.
"It's not raining. You done?" He asks, and Leo is so offended. Le gasp.
Raph choses that moment to talk, taking a few steps closer and raises his hands in a pacific gesture. Another drop.
"Now, now, what if Don tells us what we are looking for? Uh?" He asks, "And if we know, we can help better. If we can help, we can go home faster."
Leo watches the brows in D's forehead furrow in doubt, looking from to the screen and back.
"A person. I think. Let's call it a living being."
Drop.
"Okey..."
"And why are we looking for them?" Mikey asks, resting his chin in the top of Raph's head.
Don looks back at his tablet, doing a grimace, and puts it down. Thanks pizza supreme.
Drop.
"It's a tear in quantum space," he begins, ", something similar happened a couple of months ago, big one, but i couldn't find a trace." His frown deepens, looking at the ground for a second, "Now it happened again, but much smaller. It leaves a trace, something not from this... dimension."
Drop.
"Dimension? Dimension?" Leo repeats, his eyes big, "You telling me we could be chasing a giant monster with eight eyes and twelve tentacles? Or something like—"
"Not like them." Don shakes his head, and something in Leo's chest lightens with that.
Good. Good, good, good.
"And it's not a giant," Don mockes, deciding to ignore that, and crossing his arms, ",we would have already seen it if it were."
"Can we go back to the fact that it happened before and you didn't told us?" Raph says, imitating Don's posture. Leo does the same. "And that first time whatever came from the tear was bigger than whatever we are chasing now?"
Drop.
"Maybe we are chasing a baby monster and it is looking for it's giant momma!" Mikey exclaims, a big smile plastered in his face at the mere idea.
And that would be amazing. A little baby monster! Leo would be a great surrogate mother until they found it's mamma. Maybe it even has laser vision!
Another drop of water lands on his head, but he pays it no mind this time, there is a baby monster on the run and Leo will be the one to catch it!
"What are we waiting for then?" He asks, jumping up and down, "Where is it now?"
"Thought you were scared of the non-existent rain."
"Who cares?" Leo whines, throwing his arms around.
"Where is it now?" Raph asks curiously, more soft now, worry clear in his eyes.
Don comes closer where Leo is standing, and Raph does so too, until they are all in a close circle, and Don raises his tablet so they all can see.
Drop.
There is a map of the area where they are, and Leo can see colorful spots all close together. That must be the dark and dirty alley they are now.
"Where is it?" Mikey asks cheerfully, hanging from Raph's shoulders to see better.
Don doesn't talk, very, very still, just looking at the spots.
"Donald?" Leo asks, frowning.
He looks back at the screen, at the spots: purple, blue, Orange and Red— and pink.
"It is here." He whispers, realization hitting him like a train.
Suddenly, the idea of encountering a baby monster lost and probably afraid looking for it's mother is not so great.
It is with them.
"It brought us here." Don whispers, and Leo feels his heart pound hard on his chest.
"What?" His voice comes cracked and sharp, his hand flying to one of his swords.
"We've been chasing it around all New York," Don mutters, eyes piercing the screen. ", a game of cat and mouse."
"Yes..." Raph says, cautiously, and Leo can feel him moving on his feet, nervous.
"But we didn't chased it." Don looks up at them, frowning, ", it lead us there, an abandoned, dark, empty place."
"Alone." Leo breathes.
Oh God, oh god, oh god, oh god–
"WE ARE IT'S DINNER!" Mikey screeches, horrified.
"MIKEY!"
Leo's heart is pounding in his chest, something like fear crawling his spine, and he looks around.
The alley is empty and dark, long and disgusting, the type of alley that show up in horror movies or police dramas.
Where people end up dead!
He can see nothing. Just like all night long, he can't see or hear absolutely nothing, like there is nothing other than them in the alley. But Don's toys rarely are wrong.
"Hey, hermano mío," he starts, drawing his swords, ", do you think baby monster can be invisible?"
"It's not out of the realm of possibilities." His twin says, wich is not what Leo wanted to hear.
He can hear his brothers drawing their weapons as well, alert and at the ready.
Drop.
"It's okay baby," he calls out, smiling sightly, trying very hard to not look as nervous as he feels. He thinks he nails it down. "We are the good guys here, we can help you to find your momma!"
"Yes," Raph gets in, far more calm and soothing than Leo, ", sure you do miss her, uh? We can find her and take you two back home, that would be very nice, yes?"
Leo nods hard and serious.
"No need to be scared, Don may look ugly but I'm charming enough for the two of us. He won't do nothing to you." He promises solemnly.
"Doubtful, it is a great opportunity to test..."
"DON!"
"Right..."
A giggle.
He almost doesn't hear it, it's silent and childish and muffled, but there.
Leo looks around, far less fearful and very encouraged. He smiles while looking around, sharing a quick and victorious look with his brothers.
Got it.
"You won't eat us, right baby?" He calls out, "I'm far too handsome for the world to lose me and Don's far too ugly. Bet he tastes bad."
Another giggle.
Drop.
Leo frowns, lowering his swords.
It's not raining.
Just one drop after another. In the same place in his head.
He looks up.
At first he doesn't see nothing, just darkness and the forms of the buildings, he can't see and his heart is doing bumb bumb bumb far too hard and...
Drop.
This time in his forehead.
He puts one of his swords down, and touches his forehead very slowly.
It's not water.
He puts his hand away, right in his line of visión, and a tiny yelp comes out of his throat wen he sees his finger tinted with red.
Blood.
Oh shit is blood oh shi–
Mikey's scream cuts his line of messy and frankly terrified thoughts and makes him look up again.
A pair of white eyes are looking down at them, shinning in the dark, and Leo feels suddenly and very much like prey.
They have been the prey all night and they didn't even knew.
He moves closer to his siblings, picking his sword again and raising it towards the pair of eyes, a scream trapped in his throat.
"Leo!" Raph sounds scandalized, trying to put Leo's sword down. "It's probably a baby!"
"And it has lead us there to be it's dinner!" Don points out, his hand falling in Leo's shoulder.
Leo nods vigorously.
"We were the mouse all along!" He exclaims.
"Well, probably not in the beginning..."
"And it's been dropping blood over me all this time!" Leo adds, raising his voice to be heard over Mikey's.
"It probably eated someone." Donald mutters darkly and somewhat interested and Leo won't look into that.
"Or is hurt." Mikey says vehemently, wich could be true, but Leo's senses are screaming danger and he won't risk it.
"Maybe we should calm down." Raph says camly, and Leo is about to look at him until he sees the pair of eyes move. "Little buddy, maybe you could come out of the shadows for us?" He calls out.
Moving like... like it is tilding it's head.
"Oh Pizza suprime it's looking for our throats!" He shouts, his heart going fast and loud.
"LEO!" Both Mikey and Raph scream, not happy with him.
And what. They have experience with multidimensional monsters, don't they? Don't they? Who says this thing is any different to...?
The thing falls.
It almost doesn't make any sound, and Leo probably just imagined what he heard, but he knows it is now in the ground, far too close to them, to him, to his brothers—
When the two eyes open again, white and dangerous and close to the ground, He draws his sword right to were the Thing is.
His blade is meet with another, the sound piercing his ears, his breath catching in his chest.
The two white eyes look up at him, unblinking.
His arms tremble, and he can feel D's hand retreat from his shoulder and can hear him draw his own weapon.
Leo looks at the other blade.
It's old, scratched and obviously has meet many battles.
Well cared for, too.
A katana's blade.
Slowly, the eyes and the blade rise, slow and careful until they are eye to eye.
Leo's breath rises.
"Ca-careful now." He says, and the thing tilds his head again.
When he notices it moving, Leo does too, his mind screaming so loud he can't hear anything else. He moves, and so does the thing.
It's fast, too fast, and Leo's mind is twirling as well as his body, and in a swift movement both his swords are out of his grasp and he is far from his brothers and—
And he isn't in the ground.
He isn't in the ground, nothing hurts at all, and instead two big and warm hands are on his shoulders, keeping him up in his shaky legs and Leo is looking up not to white dangerous eyes but to warm and amused baby blue ones.
"Sup, little dude," they say, sounding young and carefree and nothing dangerous at all, ", you good there?"
Leo's jaw hangs wide open, looking up and down to the 'baby monster'.
It's not a baby monster, that's for sure.
It's a turtle.

Back in 2020 I just had find out Godzilla Existence and it was great
One month later I thought "Why not make it human?" and omg I spend nights thinking on a Ghidorah(My fav kaiju) human design and BOOM!
-What If Ghidorah had bangs? one each side
my mind was blowing lmao I thought "omg I'm genious" and literally 5 months later I find out about Ruubesz existence and his gijinkas.
that was my reaction lmao
Tumblr media
I was shocked, I mean I just shared the same braincell with someone else lmao
Tumblr media
anyway, Lots of Gijinka kaijus of my Au are similar to his coincidently lmao but I will change it, except Ghidorah bros, the design is gorgeous and I don't think I can have another great idea for them again. the coincidence was killing me lol
anyway I'm rebuilding my Godzilla Gijinka Au and I will start with San :D
Tumblr media
maybe one day I will do it on digital(Maybe when I learn lmao I do not understand a single THING in digital art, congrats if you do digital art you have my full respect)
little comic lol
Tumblr media
well that's my human version of Kevin-San, since he and Ruubesz Kevin are basically siblings, I changed the much I could for not see it has the same character.
His personality is more to Canon than Fanon, which means he is curious but also cruel and mean, also very vengeful. San is always carrying a notepad and pencil for doing notes about humans(he doens't write but Draw, cause is more dynamic for him lmao), He were once "Adorable and funny" but after GvsK events he became more like his brothers.
currently lives in Mecha Godzilla City(hidden city from other Kaijus, just like in the anime), and he is bestie with Shin Godzilla and see Kiryu like a master or guider.
Kevin hates certain humans, and look at us with superiority and disgust, but also think humans are fascinating. His brothers came back to life thanks to Kevin, but they don't see each other anymore(Ichi and Ni don't have contact with San).
After GvsK events, and meeting the other Mechas, Kevin did notice Mechas were no well-seem beetween the flesh kaijus, and with it, especially being now a Godzilla similar, he thinks his brothers will hate on him. So he keeps distance, besides, sometimes Kevin do stalk them just for checking(San actually miss them a lot, also Ni and Ichi miss San, but he's scared of being rejected)
anyway, got quite big, but there it is. hope you like it

some fav things this year
Read
Detransition, baby - Torrey Peters' book. just adding a one more assurance that it is just as good as everyone says.
Shopping Star as a semiotechnical code modulating Greek femininity in pharmacopornographic capitalism - fun opulence of hard words discussing interesting things. (article utilising Preciado's analysis tools to discuss (post)recession Greece)
Chimamire Sukeban Chainsaw - Rei Mikamoto's insane gory gross, hard to explain, manga about a girl with a chainsaw trying to kill the person responsible for turning her classmates into grotesque minions.
One Piece - caught up finally. yes, it is worth it.
67,292 Things Car Guys Can Teach Transsexuals by Adrian Glenn - part of the 2 Trans 2 Furious zine. as a car guy associate and transsexual i deeply loved this one.
The Shape of Premodern Nonbinarity: A Conversation with Leah DeVun - I'll never stop talking about this article.
Watched
Bronson - Tom Hardy movie, biography of "Britain's most violent prisoner " Charles Bronson. It doesn't completely highlight everything essential about his story (having a less than nuanced view on untreated mental illness and its relationship with incarceration) but it's such a good fucking movie!! And at least artistically very loyal to who it's depicting (insane and absurdist).
this video of jack harlow at a chiropractic appointment - we live such weird fucking times. like it isn't heartfelt but it isn't disgusting either it's just, w-what? eh?
Little chinese everywhere - vlogger Yan who travels though less tourist heavy provinces in China, really respectful look to everyday life in more rural communities. these have given me a lot of peace and joy. a lot of extremely intresting architecture as well.
Inflatables and the adults who love collecting them - by furry youtuber Ash Coyote. Truly a gem of respectful by fandom, of fandom documentaries. Touching and lovely!!
MerPeople - don't touch netflix anymore but this documentary of the mermaid community and industry is incredibly good.
this rose ramdin x html jones vid - the well read terminally online gen z musical artists who get their estrogen money from twitter shitposting are the modern greek philosphers. in the sense that i'd sit on a stone public square step and listen to a convo like this for the whole day.
A normal creepypasta retrospective - there's hope for youtube actually
Cat soup / Nekojiru-sou movie
Earth Maiden Arjuna - early 2000s environmentalist anime series lovers make some noicee. this one is sooo lovely and gorgeous. real hidden gem.
Gigs
Sabaton - as expected, bit of a weird vibe in the crowd demographic :--------D but show itself is an insane fucking spectacle I'm happy I saw. You can really sense these men are swedish, the "my country hasn't been in an active war for two centuries" theater kid energy is wild. Tank on stage.
Death Grips - I'm pretty sure this rebooted my whole brain. Went with close friend, pretty sure my biggest bruise came form her hands.
Antti Tuisku - Farewell gig of the best pop performer in finland. I do not understand how he doesn't pass out on stage with everything he's doing. The jesus allegory album is forever my favorite, it's so genious in how it discusses fame so well while staying funny and self-avare. Neck hurt for the next week due to headbanging.
Suistamon sähkö - small gig yet one of the absolute best this year. (i cried) You need to see these guys live, the vocal ability of the main singers is absurd, it doesn't come through fully in recordings. And they create a very special atmosphere and community within their gigs, literally joined hands and danced in a circle.

So from what Jimin said about his songs:
Face off is about friendships going bad, which I suspected because of certain interviews I remembered from 2020.
Like crazy is about Jimin's thoughts of feeling lost, but it was framed with the story inspired by the movie Like crazy.
And the hidden track is a letter to the fans. (Though I will forever side-eye the part that begins with the word "baby", is written in banmal and he sings it with Jungkook, because that part especially doesn't really feel like it's for the fans)
I wish they would have gone through all the songs, but maybe Jimin will tell about them later on his live.
Also it's quite genious how Jimin mentioned that the album cover is like the surface of water where you can see your reflection.

Chapter 1 ✦ I'll never forget the day we met ✦
Read new chapters here:
2nd Chapter 3rd Chapter
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
10 Feb. 2022
Breaking News:
SM Ent. released "Elayne"'s first teaser pictures and we finally know who the members are!
As we announced last week SM released today "Elayne"'s pictures and the company shared with the public who's going to be part of their new girl group. Elayne is a 5 member girl group composed by the very well known to the public former SMROOKIE girls: Koeun, Lami, Hina and Herin. What nobody was expecting was for a foreigner to join the line up of Elayne. Y/n is the first european idol to debut under SM. Entertainment and the fans are super excited to see a big company like SM make such a bold decision, possibly making way for other foreigners to join Kpop. "Elayne"'s mv will be released on Valentine's day and we are on countdown mode for the hottest debut of the year so far.
tyxoxo_neo commented : I'm happy that SM is debuting a foreigner but I'm worried about her fitting in ://
yulyuli commented : I can't tell who the visual is... they all look meh kkkk
okneok22 commented : OMG YES FINALLY THE SMROOKIE GIRLS AAAAA
lala_lisa_luv commented : i'm actually excited for this asdfghjkl they look so pretty <3
wooyahnah commented : stop putting foreigners in kpop groups -_-
kooki3 commented : me (an empath) sensing that MY''s are bitter
Herin scuffed and closed her phone, she was laying down on the floor of the training room along with her group members. It didn't take a genious to understand how they were all feeling at the moment, when their debut was four days away and the internet was on fire with mixed opinions since the announcement of their debut all the girls shared the same state of spirit, panic. Koeun sighed, while walking in circles and bitting her nails, Lami was on the couch laying down with her hands in her stomach, she had been feeling sick for the past week because of anxiety. Hina's phone began to rang, she lifted her head from the ground and looked at the caller ID.Upon seeing it she hung up, sighed and got up stomping her feet.
"Jaemin?" a muffled voice asked, coming from a girl also laying on the floor, she was laying face down, wearing a very oversized hoodie. Hina humed and chugged down her bottle of water.
Koeun finally stopped and sat down on the floor signaling the girls to join her and form a circle.
" Girl I already know what you're going to say and I-" Herin started.
" No listen. I'm not going to try and give us a motivational pep talk about how it is NOT our fault that we have an unhinged background because we thought we were never going to debut, and now that we are, instead of being excited we are all shaking in fear because we have to have very awkward interactions with people we despise."
The girls looked at her with raised eyebrows and a look on their faces that read "You're doing it again". Koeun brushed her hair away from her face and began to play with her fingers, speaking in a low tone:
" Y/n I'm sorry about the bad things people are writting about you... I'm sorry that as a leader there's nothing I can do, but I know you're going to amaze everyone and prove that all the things their saying are wrong. You belong here and we are a team, we are sisters and I would fight them all if I could."
Y/n slid closer to her friend and gave her a small hug "I know you would Koko, don't worry about it. Haters is the least of my problems..." Koeun gulped and lifter her head to look at Y/n giving her a small smile.
"I said I was not going to give you a pep talk and I'm not, what I suggest it the following." Koeun got up putting her hands in her hoodie pockets, she had dark circles around her eyes, similar to the ones in her group mates faces. " We go to the dorm, we get some delivery food, something like really greasy that will make our manager have nightmares, we chug down the hidden vodka bottle that Herin has, NOT YOU LAMI, and we...we drink the pain away."
" Can we maraton Adam Sandler movies?" Y/n asks getting up and linking arms with Koeun who nods.
" Sounds like, a pity party. I need it immediately." Herin grabbed her things and Lami. " I was saving that vodka for a special occasion."
" I have another idea but I fear it may be a little ilegal..." the four girls all stopped in their tracks looking back at Hina that was zipping her cardigan up.
Herin made a intrigued face.
" Proceed..."
" We need plates, and a dark alley. And some sharpie too."
" Plates? The dish?" Lami asked confused " What are we going to do with those?"
" Trust me little one."
_________
It was a chilly night in Seoul, it hadn't snown in a long time but it was raining almost everynight, like today. The girls head out from a small store with the five plates and sharpie Hina requested to buy. Upon hearing her idea while they headed to the store the girls got excited to complete the task. Having already bought the plates they started to look for a quite and hidden place in an alley nearby.
After a few minutes of walking they climbed some stairs and reached a dark street where no cars could pass. They sat on the stairs and began to scribble with the sharpie on the plates.
" Hina how the hell did you come up with this?" Koeun questioned shivering because of the cold " If we get caught we are done for" she looked around worried.
" I saw this in a movie, I don't remember which one but I always wanted to try it." she said writting with trembling hands.
" Chill Koko, we're good, we just have to sprint really fast when we're done." Y/n said hugging her friend and sneaking a peak at her plate.
After everyone wrote on their plates they turned the corned into a part of the alley that had only one street lamp on, you could see the city lights in the horizon and the silhouettes of the girls on the wet concrete of the road.
" Who wants to go first?" Herin asks secretly hoping nobody would volunteer so she could do it. " OK I'LL GO FIRST"
The girls cackled and told her it was okay, Herin turned her plate around and showed the words she had written on it.
" Explain your plate before breaking it!" Hina requested in a hurry.
" Don't worry babes, uri leader has run out of motivational pep talks but I've got some words to say" she cleared her throat. " I love you all, I know it's been hard but we're ending a chapter, and even if we feel scared because we don't know what's coming, let me say that being in this journey with you has been the best adventure of my life."
Y/n fake sniffed and got a dirty look from Herin.
" Not even a tear?" she asked with a pout.
" Only from the cold but it might freeze."
" Ok let us get this over with..." Herin looked at her plate for a few seconds and gripped it hardly sniffing from the cold too. Small clouds of smoke came from her mouth because of the way she was breathing. " So, in my plate I wrote down some things that make me stressed and that I want to let go off from now on."
The words "low self esteem and loving someone who doesn't love me back" could be read in her plate. Y/N placed a hand in Herin's shoulder and gave it a light squeeze. In a matter of seconds the same plate she had been holding fell to the floor breaking in tiny pieces. The other four girls gave her a round of aplause before quickly doing the same.
" I wrote down some things I hate" Hina said quickly before showing her plate with the words " Our debut song ,Giselle, Endless Training period, Xenophobia and Na Jaemin" on it before smashing it on the floor too.
" I wrote down my worst biggest fear at the moment, having a floppy debut and losing one of my members because of hateful comments from the public...also, our company giving up on us again...and being a bad leader." Koeun said in a slow pace reading the words she had written as if she could visualize all of those scenarios. She threw the plate with more strength than expected making the girls jump and giggle a little.
" That's a lot of accumulated anger Koeuniie." Lami followed before throwing her plate with " Having to give up my dream to become a singer" writen. " I don't ever want to feel that again... we have to do well." Her three unnies hugged her while Y/n stared at her plate. She bit her lip and threw it with all her will on the ground.
As it fell and shatered the sound of a window being open and an old lady screaming was heard.
" WHO'S OUT THERE? I WILL CALL THE POLICE!"
" Shit.." Herin cursed starting to run grabbing Lami by the arm. The other girls followed her and ran as fast as they could terrified about getting caught and having their first scandal three days before their debut. They reached a busy street and stopped at a bus stop with their hands on their knees gasping for air. Lami began laughing and hitting Koeun in the arms expressing her satisfaction.
" We have to do that every month it was so freeing!" she said while twirling around with her arms in the air.
Koeun half sat half fell into the seat of the stop looking defeated.
" I think this was enough adrenaline for me."
" What did you write Y/n?" Hina asked Y/n putting an arm around her shoulders. She gulped a little but her mouth was still dry from all the running and cold air that she had been breathing.
" I wrote down a date... February 14." the group mates looked at her waiting for more information. " February 14th 2020... the day I met him."
Koeun got a apologetic look on her face and gave Y/n a small smile before getting up and patting her head.
" Our debut date really sucks doesn't it?" Hina added before signaling to the bus for it to stop.
When the manager and the president announced their debut date Y/n heart fell to her feet and she could feel her stomach in her throat, she couldn't believe it. It must have been a curse that someone put on Y/n because the 14th of February always ended up on becoming a day that became special to her somehow. Her mind started to race with flashbacks from that meeting and from THE other 14th of February. A voice called Y/n's name and woke her up from her daydreaming transe, Hina hurried Y/n to get into the bus.
____________
When they got home Hina and Lami ran to the bathroom fighting about who would shower first. Koeun placed their orders for delivery food and began to set a small pillow fort in the floor of the living room with the help of Y/N. The night passed with them in their cozy pajamas, eating fries and burgers from their favourite fast food chain while watching "Grown Ups". Hina always had the best ideas for activities and dared them to play a drinking game of jenga which left them very drunk after downing Herin's hidden vodka bottle because of the game. The group of friends layed on top of the blankets and pillows that Koeun and Y/n had put together, laughing out loud because of their drunken state and because of the dumb movie playing on TV. They didn't realize how late it had gotten until they heard several knocks on the door.
Startled from the noise they all covered their mouths and looked at the door as if they could look throught it laser vision.
"Who could it be?" Koeun asked with squinted eyes.
Y/n got up and walked in zig zags until she reached the intercom, pushing the bottom making the camera turn on and show the figure of a person on the screen.
She made a big O face and looked at her friends in slow motion before covering her mouth to not laugh out loud.
" WHO IS IT?" Hina screamed making Herin push a pillow in Hina's face to shut her up while making a shush sound.
Y/n opened the door trying to act composed.
A tall and slender men stood before her with a serious look in his face. When he saw the state she was in he started to shake his head.
" Howwwww may I help you Johnny Suh Sir?" Y/n said trying to look sober.
" Do you guys know how late it is? You're making so much noise... Everyone is pissed and they made me come down because I'm the only one who doesn't have beef with you guys. Funny enough, I was sleeping ok, because I have my noise cancelling thingies one you know but NO, they woke me up on purpose because you were being loud and nobody upstairs has the balls to come down here and tell you to zip it."
Herin appeared beside y/n at the door frame and gave him a nod as a way to greet the boy.
" So. They made you come downstairs because they are little bitches?" she said while downing a vodka shot followed by a bite in a french fry she had in her other hand.
Johnny rolled his eyes and entered the apartment.
" You guys have food? The least you can do is share since I got woken up because of you" he said while joining the rest of the girls on the floor and bitting some onion rings.
" So debut is in 72 hours, I'd ask how you're feeling but this speaks for itself." he pointed at Lami now knocked out sleeping in a weird position with a fry hanging from the corner of her mouth.
Herin and Y/n had closed the door and gotten a cup for Johhny.
" Vodka soda my friend?" Herin offered.
" It's...4 a.m..." Johnny said while looking at her with a serious look on his face.
" If you're boring just say that." Y/n added.
He grabbed the cup and downed it in a second.
" I'm your only friend, treat me nicely."
" Yes Johnny" you guys sang in unisone.
Johnny spent the remaining hour eating and watching the rest of the movie with you guys before falling asleep on the couch. Y/n was the only one still up when Johnny's phone began to rang, without looking at the ID caller she picked it up.
" Johnny's phone this is Y/n speaking."
The person on the other line remained silent for a moment but Y/n could hear them breath.
" Hello?" she asked before realising she could just look at the ID to see who she was talking with, but before she could a familiar voice spoke in a soft voice.
" You're debuting on my birthday..."
She could feel her heart skeaping a beat when she heard his voice. Her mouth went dry and now she was the one unable to find the words to speak. For some reason none of them talked, they stayed on line in silence for what felt like an eternity.
" Your birthday..." Y/n finally managed to say with a crack in her voice.
Almost like in a hurried way the person on the other side of the line answered
" I'll never forget the day we met. It was on my birthday, two years ago... I couldn't take my eyes off you."
Tears began to fill Y/n's eyes and she gripped Johnny's phone while biting her lip trying not to start crying.
" I mis-"
" Goodbye Jaehyun."
Y/n hung up, taking a deep breath and hugging her knees not realising Johnny had woken up and heard the last part of the call. He came down from the couch and put an arm around her, giving a comforting hug while she sobbed. She promised herself she would never look back, that she would not miss him or crave for his presence, but hearing his voice was enough of a trigger for her to want to get up, run to the 11th floor into his arms. But she couldn't, he didn't deserve her love. It was almost two years ago but she could remember like it was yesterday when her eyes first landed on him and his dimpled smile made her heart melt. And it was all because of another dumbass heartbreaker named Mark Lee.

Foxbury - 11.30 am
Olivia: So now that we have discussed the needs of the paper... How’s your life at Ubrite going so far?
David: Not so bad... Once Robb moved out, I have much more peace and free time! His parties were a bit too much for me
Olivia: I guess he hasn’t changed much... And how’s Lottie doing?
David: She’s- She’s fine... Still fighting with Robb as usual
Olivia: Just fine? You two are dating, right?
David: Yes, we are... So far, is going well, but we still need to work on some stuff
Olivia: Some stuff as in meeting ex-boyfriends?
David: I guess you saw the news... It’s not what the media says. She’s not cheating on me, but she did meet him behind my back
Olivia: I don’t think Lottie would ever cheat on you. She wouldn’t do anything to hurt you. At least not on purpose
David: Yeah, but I guess it took me a while to figure it out. I kindda overreacted...
Olivia: I can’t blame you! My boyfriend once texted his ex to ask her for a book he’d lent her, and I freaked out!
David: So I see you have a special someone too. Who’s the lucky man?
Olivia: His name is Marcus and he is a sophomore in Art History. We have been dating for three months
David: A future journalist and a future art genious. That’s a nice combination, Liv
Olivia: For now, it seems to be working, but I wanna take it slow. I’ll hate to ruin it by going too fast
David: I guess that’s kindda my fault...
David: I’m really sorry about how things ended, Liv. Specially about trying to push you into doing something you didn’t want
Olivia: You were just trying to do the right thing, Davy
David: But I shouldn’t have constantly remember you what happened. I just- I couldn’t let it go so easily
Olivia: Neither could I... But I needed to distract myself with something, so I guess I just did everything in my power to keep it hidden
David: I guess we both had different ways to deal with the situation
Olivia: Yes... But I have the feeling we have made peace with it at last
David: I still can’t believe I wanted to get married at eighteen! Could you imagine what that could have been like?!
Olivia: A complete mess! We would probably fight all the time. Mostly about who should change the baby’s diapers
David: *laughs* And let’s not forget about Robb complaining about the baby crying all the time
Olivia: *laughs* And about the smell!
*both laugh*
Olivia: Well... I should get going. I have to meet Marcus now so...
David: Yeah, I have to go back to Ubrite, so I better go too
David: It was so good to see you, Liv
Olivia: It was nice to see you too... Don’t be a stranger, alright?
David: I won’t...

Ikerev Characters as Harry Potter Wands
NOTE: all of the below information about wands are taken from the Pottermore website. Go check it out for more information.
Ray: blackthorn (blackthorn wand owners are known to be warriors & needs to pass through dangers and hardships with their owners to be truly bonded. Ray is the King of Spades, and he has certainly passes through a lot of danger and hardship in his past. Also: Blackwell, blackthorn...)
Sirius: cedar (cedar wand owners possess strength of character and unusual loyalty, and Sirius is one of the more stable guys in the game, and he always cares about his friends. It’s also said that cedar wand owners shouldn’t be crossed, especially if their friends are hurt.)
Luka: ash (ash wand owners are usually stubborn and courageous, and Luka fits both of these, especially the stubborn part, since he’s not easily swayed from what he truly believes. Also, he’s neither brash nor overconfident, unlike someone else, so ash would be a great match for Luka!)
Fenrir: sycamore (sycamore wands are adventurers, and dislike mundane, everyday activities. Guess who jumped to my mind when I first saw those descriptions. Also, they tend to explode when they’re bored. Fenrir probably also explodes when he’s bored. Or at least cause something to explode.)
Seth: hawthorn (hawthorn wands are all about paradoxes, and Seth is all about paradoxes. They’re both pretty complex and conflicted. The entirety of Seth’s route is basically about him double-crossing the Black Army and then the Magic Tower There’s also a lot of that good-or-evil thing going on.)
Lancelot: elder (elder wands only select the most capable master who’s superior to their company, and who’s more capable and superior than the King of Hearts himself? It’s also said that elder wand owners have a special destiny, which certainly fits Lancelot. Plus, elder also has an affinity with rowan)
Jonah: rowan (rowan is a very protective wand, and Jonah is a very protective person. Just ask Luka. Moreover, no dark wizard has ever owned a rowan wand before. Jonah, as we know, has a diamond heart, and I can’t ever imagine a dark!Jonah, since he’s so noble and honorable and just super good. Rowan wand owners are also known to be good at duels, and we all love a strong Queen.)
Edgar: walnut (it’s a wand for the highly intelligent, and Edgar is the Red Army’s last remaining brain cell. It should be noted that walnut wands shouldn’t be in the hands of those without a conscience, and Edgar actually has a conscience despite often acting otherwise.)
Zero: aspen (aspen wands are particularly suited to martial magic, and aspen wand owners are often good duellist. Zero takes great pride in his swordwork, and I remember that one of his wishes was to find a worthy opponent. Aspen wand owners are also strong-minded and determined, just like Zero!)
Kyle: willow (willow wands have a lot of healing power, and it totally fits Kyle because he’s a genious doctor. Also, willow wand owners often have an unwarranted insecurity that they try to hide, and Kyle is pretty insecure about his ability to save people ever since his brother died, but he always covers it up.)
Harr Silver: pine (independent ✓, individual ✓, a loner ✓, intriguing ✓, mysterious ✓. It’s honestly the perfect wand for Harr. All of the personality traits match. Besides, pine wands like to be used creatively, and Harr can get pretty creative with some of his spells.)
Loki Genetta: dogwood (ik it’s kinda weird to give a cat a dogwood wand, but it works! Dogwood wands are usually quirky and playful, and so is Loki. However, they can be capable of serious magic as well, which kinda reminded me of how Loki also has hidden depths to his personality.)
Blanc Lapin: apple (apple wand owners are supposed to be well-loved and long-lived, and possess great personal charm. No one in Cradle seems to truly dislike Blanc. The long-lived part is obvious, since he’s like the oldest living guy in the game.)
Oliver Knight: hornbeam (people with hornbeam wands usually have one passion that they dedicate their lives to. Oliver has pretty much dedicated his life to inventing, especially so when it comes to hats. Boi literally ran away from home to make hats.)
