It's so good when Shen Qingqiu takes care of Luo Binghe. In canon and also in fics. I especially am in love with when he does his hair or helps him dress, it's just so pleasantly domestic. Also endearing whenever SQQ gets a bit fanboy-ish about it, because that's Luo Binghe and SQQ can dress him up in every cool or sexy outfit he has a face thick enough to pay someone to actually make!
I wonder if he ever shares this wisdom with Shang Qinghua. Like at some bitching session or other SQH is sighing a bit about how MBJ always wears like the same three outfits, and don't get him wrong they're all great outfits, but he noticed Luo Binghe flaunting yet another fresh look the other day and part of him really wants to see Mobei Jun in something different...
And then Shen Qingqiu is just like, you're the Lord of An Ding Peak, you handle the basic wardrobe necessities for an entire sect? Go pay someone to make cool/sexy outfits and literally put them on Mobei Jun yourself! You're married to the guy, aren't you?
Shang Qinghua is like "wait you can do that? I can do that? that's a thing that's allowed?" and Shen Qingqiu rolls his eyes and calls him a dumbass and points out that Airplane himself wrote about the intimacy of Luo Binghe's harem members dressing him and it being an even bigger deal for demons than humans, and Shang Qinghua cannot for the life of him remember this but it does sound sort of familiar. So off he goes to nervously sketch out some ideas for outfits, and then get told off by the seamstress he tries to commission for not having realistic ideas about how fabric works. But he does have Mobei Jun's measurements and after some discussion he gets a bunch of stuff that looks even better than his initial ideas, eventually, and then he just has to... give them to his king...
Shang Qinghua awkwardly presenting the topic to Mobei Jun like he's expecting to get a hard "no", but he blinks and his king is naked and standing expectantly in front of his fancy full-length mirror. Shang Qinghua has only ever helped Mobei Jun get dressed when he was injured in the past, and then usually only just putting his arms through some sleeves on an outer robe. They've undressed each other for sex, but putting the clothes on really is a different kind of intimacy. Especially an outfit that Shang Qinghua had specially made to suit Mobei Jun, to highlight the features he likes best about him. Striking blue and icy-white, with hints of An Ding's colors as accents, showing off his build to full effect, etc etc. Shang Qinghua layers each piece on and then does Mobei Jun's hair too, muttering quiet approval for how the look comes together while Mobei Jun preens under all the attention.
Of course, afterwards Mobei wants Shang Qinghua to dress him every day, which isn't always logistically feasible, and MBJ also intends to return the gesture.
Luo Binghe dresses Shen Qingqiu too of course, but Luo Binghe is aware both that other guys want his husband and also that Shen Qingqiu will refuse to go out in public if Binghe dresses him in anything revealing, even if he still lets him put it on, plus Luo Binghe was raised with human sensibilities about modesty. So all in all any "sexy" outfits are reserved for private time at home, and what he puts Shen Qingqiu in for daily wear is all stuff that is perfectly befitting a Qing Jing Peak Lord and scholar.
Mobei Jun doesn't have human modesty sensibilities and also doesn't see any reason why Qinghua shouldn't show off his own best assets while he's going about his day, so, Shang Qinghua is about to rue the hell out of a lot fashion-related world-building decisions he made a lifetime ago...

Exposing SVSSS Fanon: 25/∞
VIOLENCE AS COURTSHIP IS A PART OF DEMON CULTURE
Rating: CANON
A nearly universal trope, especially in Moshang fics, is the fact that courtship is performed through violence in demon culture, and that the misunderstandings between the pair are because of cultural differences. The fact that demons mistreat the targets of their affection is canon, however, it is important for fans to note that this sort of characterization and worldbuilding is rooted in racial and ethnic stereotypes.
This is one of the most-requested topics I've ever written on this blog, and I took a long time to think about how best to approach the subject in a way that both keeps to the intention of this blog (referencing canon & providing quotes) as well as raising awareness to the very real problematic aspects of what is a well-loved and often-used trope in fanon that I don't think most western fans are aware of.
First, the canon analysis:
“If you hold unique feelings for a certain person, how can you make them understand your intentions?” Luo Binghe asked. Obviously, no one dared to tear down Luo Binghe’s facade and expose him directly, but this question was really very…unsuited to the demonic approach. After a long moment, not a single person had answered. In fact, the answer was so simple that any normal human could have given it to you. If you liked someone, you should just tell them. Unfortunately, there was not a single “normal” person on the scene—and aside from Shang Qinghua, there also were no “humans” either. Mobei-Jun thought about it. With the paths his mind was given to take, there was no telling how he had interpreted “unique” feelings. “Beat them up three times a day?” (7 Seas, Ch. 26)
Most of the fandom remembers this passage, and some may think that this is where the interpretation of violence as courtship comes from-- however, that is not the case. This passage might actually not refer to courtship at all-- while that is one possible interpretation, Mobei-jun could also be interpreting "unique feelings" to mean something different than "romantic feelings," since Luo Binghe didn't specify romance directly.
The "violent demonic courtship" idea actually originates much earlier in the novel, just after the invasion of Qiong Ding Peak:
In truth, Shen Qingqiu didn’t intend to tease; he thought himself very straightforward. The one who’d tampered with Luo Binghe’s dream realm was Sha Hualing. Though she did have some harmful intentions, her underlying motive was obvious. Naturally, she was driven by a young girl’s secret yearning for love. Otherwise, she would have directed her aggressions toward others, not specifically Luo Binghe. Demons were compelled to viciously bully the person they liked. Only if the object of their affections failed to die would the demon accept them. If their target died, that meant they were useless and not worth nursing any lingering affections for. (7 Seas, Ch. 3)
This, in fact, has somewhat more serious connotations than the way I have often seen it interpreted in fanworks-- it is not merely beating up a potential partner, but pushing them to their limits, nearly driving them to death, and it is certainly implied that it is not uncommon for the object of a demon's affections to actually die.
Now that the canonical basis of the idea has been established, let us move on to the second, and arguably more important part of this post: the racism.
I would like to add a disclaimer here-- I am going to discuss this in hopes of raising more awareness in the fandom, but I am not North/West/Central Asian myself, so I will only mention things in brief and somewhat generally-- if anyone who belongs to the affected cultures would like to make corrections, or more detailed explanations, or any other additions to this post on this topic, I greatly welcome that, as I feel it is an important issue that should be addressed.
In Chinese fiction, particularly fantasy genres like xianxia/xuanhuan/xiuzhen, but also in historical and wuxia fiction, there is a pervasive, prevalent tendency for authors to use racial and ethnic stereotypes against Central, Northern, and Western Asian cultures such as Mongolian & Arab cultures in their worldbuilding regarding the North, while stereotypes against Southeast Asian cultures are used in worldbuilding regarding the South. These stereotypes are most typically applied to villains and villainous groups, and are so widespread as to be ubiquitous within the genre. MXTX has used these tropes before-- notably with the Banyue people in TGCF, with adaptations of both TGCF and MDZS including design stereotypes, such as CQL's portrayal of the Qinghe Nie (combining their tendency toward violence and 'unnatural' cultivation method, with design traits typically associated with Northern/Central Asian cultures).
It is worth noting, though, that most authors do not intentionally use these traits as racist stereotypes in their worldbuilding, especially when regarding a non-human species-- in the same way that western fantasy authors use goblin and orc characters and tropes without realizing or acknowledging their racist origins and connotiations, these stereotypes have simply become genre tropes without that direct connection to their origins. Nonetheless, it is still worth noting-- and worth trying not to fall into the trap of leaning into stereotypical traits in fanworks' character portrayals.
Stereotypes include but are not limited to barbaric and brutish cultural traits, association with animals/having animal features, dark or corrupt magical/spiritual practices, certain types of braided hairstyles & other fashion choices, and originating from the far north or south.
Some of the prejudice and stereotyping of Northern Asian cultures likely originates from the fact that in the past, China was invaded and subjugated by peoples from the north (under Mongolian rule during the Yuan dynasty, and under Manchurian rule during the Qing dynasty) as well as having many conflicts with these peoples throughout history. In fact, the Qing dynasty only ended in the early 1900s, so some of this oppression is still in recent memory-- nonetheless, people belonging to ethnic minorities in China are still affected by this negative stereotyping today, so regardless of the origin, racism is still racism and should be addressed, and China today is a majority Han Chinese nation-- even if Han Chinese are considered a minority and affected by systemic racism in other places in the world.
Additionally, many tropes specifically applied to the southern demons, but also used for demon culture as a whole, are tied to stereotypical portrayals of Southeast Asian culture, which is rooted in a long history of Imperial China's invasion and oppression.
All of those stereotypes listed above apply to SVSSS' demon culture. Even in Mobei-jun's name-- 漠北 meaning "northern desert," which is the real-world name for a region in the north of the Gobi desert in Mongolia.
Therefore, it is important to remember that though violence-as-courtship in demon culture is canonical within SVSSS' setting, it nonetheless originates from harmful racial and ethnic stereotypes. It would be a good idea for fans to keep this in mind when creating their fanworks, and to treat the topic with sensitivity-- but I will leave any direct suggestions on how to handle this to those who are actually part of the affected groups.
--
(thanks to @flidgetjerome for additional notes regarding SEAsian stereotyping and author intent!)
Also, to be absolutely clear: I am not saying that svsss’ demons are specifically coded as any real ethnic group— it’s only that in many ways the portrayal is similar to the common portrayal of various ethnic groups in cmedia. I don’t believe they are specifically meant to parallel a real life group, unlike for example TGCF’s Banyue— but it’s worth questioning why these traits, why these characters.

I was talking with someone the other day and it got me thinking about something.
I generally run with the idea that part of the reason why Luo Binghe became THE target for Shen Qingqiu's abuse was because Shen Qingqiu fell for the 'white sheep' routine. Like, it was a lot of things all together: coming to the sect at an unfortunate time (Shen Qingqiu was in a mental health freefall because he was at a bottleneck and struggling to form his core, and here comes Luo Binghe with his perfect aptitude who's expected to blitz through all of the hurdles Shen Qingqiu sweated blood to scale), the pettiness he felt towards Liu Qingge when he picked Luo Binghe out (another bitter association), Luo Binghe having Ning Yingying right away as a friend and support (who stuck with him even against her shizun's orders!!) when Shen Qingqiu was all alone, the jealousy that however briefly Luo Binghe had a loving mother
and the crown jewel on this cake was that Luo Binghe, despite having suffered the death of a loved one and poverty on the streets, still seemed like a naive little ray of sunshine. And no matter what Shen Qingqiu does to him, he remains pathetic and vulnerable in the way that makes kinder people want to take care of him and protect him.
Shen Qingqiu is not a kind man and he knows intimately that the world isn't kind either. Not to pathetic children who don't grow up with the power of a rich family to put them somewhere safe where they can become pathetic, maybe well-meaning maybe not adults. To him it's the harbinger of failure.
The Luo Binghe he sees after picking him up is not smart, not crafty in the way he expects a street kid to be. He's not driven (wanting to make his late mother proud... motivation like that ought to fade with the memories. In four or five years Luo Binghe won't even recall the face or voice of his beloved mother and then Shen Qingqiu will be left with a child with no drive whatsoever). All Luo Binghe has going for him is his bright eyed optimism and his servile nature (which cannot, should not last in a cultivator) and his exceptional aptitude, which is useless on its own.
I struggle to believe that Luo Binghe was the first on the peak who was naturally talented (Shen Qingqiu's ruined cultivation base put him so far behind that even with his hard work, he lagged behind Shang Qinghua whose cultivation is mediocre at best). Or the first to have a support network of friends or a loving family. And as much as Shen Qingqiu resented them for having these gifts that he didn’t, he never tried to destroy them the way he tried to destroy Luo Binghe.
Luo Binghe has all the tools of greatness and the hallmarks of failure all in one and it's that combination that triggers Shen Qingqiu's hate. Shen Qingqiu, in his rush to spite Liu Qingge, picked up trash that glitters. He can never admit to this mistake, so he decides that he's going to drive off Luo Binghe or destroy him, whichever happens first, because he can't imagine being stuck with this, this... pathetic little beast. One way or another, he will get rid of him before he can become a stain on Shen Qingqiu's reputation.
And we know how all of that turned out...
But what if he did see through it. Luo Binghe slipped up in his introduction and Shen Qingqiu immediately saw him for the white lotus that he was.
Shen Qingqiu knows the world, he knows its monsters and its beasts. So he looks at this child (not as weak and battered from his life on the street as others, the promise of strength and a bright future written in his meridians) pretending to be small and weak and pathetic and he's terrified.
Only the most dangerous predators pretend to be prey. He took a cuckoo into his nest, he accepted a wolf into his flock. Now it's his job to deal with it, before it grows fangs and bites the hand that feeds it.
He doesn't trust his martial siblings to listen to him on this, to hear him (unpleasant and sharp and biting, hated and hateful) out over the little beast (teary eyed and pathetic, pretty little thing you want to take home and keep safe).
He always did hide his fear the best with hate.
He will wear down this intruder until he can find out what his goal is and destroy him, before the beast can destroy them first.
It's almost a relief, when Luo Binghe stands on the edge of the abyss, his sheepskin torn and staring at him with the resentful eyes of a demon. It's the one moment when he doesn't hate Luo Binghe; he is a demon who will act as a demon does, as is his nature.
Pushing him into oblivion is
relief.

staring at my sqh/yqy peak lord fiance ficlet. consider this! sqh is still consorting with demons while this happens because why not. mobei-jun still exists and is fully aware of the whole "haha i'm engaged to my shixiong and everything is so fucking weird" and sqh is muttering about this as he looks through some northern desert stuff.
it's just. come on, yue-shixiong. we're engaged, you don't have to keep chasing after your xiao jiu -- not that sqh minds!!! if you two get along, great, that's everything that great airplane god wanted! but like, it gets really awkward when you run away while you're on a date with lil ole shang qinghua, and then everyone starts feeling very sorry for sqh for having a fiance so obviously in love with another man, which, okay, sqh absolutely took advantage of to get paperwork done at first, but it's starting to get wayyyyy more awkward now --
mbj finds himself in the wonderful position of being able to give sqh dating advice. does mbj date? no. but does he know what dating looks like? hell yeah. it seems a shame that his best spy/advisor/friend(?) doesn't know the answer to this.
"hit him," mbj suggests.
"what," sqh says.
"three times a day."
and then we get into a discussion on demon courting and sqh going "haha that's nice but yqy isn't a demon" and mbj is like "i don't understand why you don't try it, how else are you going to get his attention".
"humans don't court by punching people???"
"you don't appear to be making any progress doing this the human way." and mbj says this super condescendingly, too. like hey, sqh, you're such a loser. you have no game. of course you have no bitches. how can you have bitches if you don't punch people in the face.
well, yeah?? fuck you too, my king! it's not like you've ever had a date, are you not launching a boulder while being precariously balanced on your glass peak (me: i'm paraphrasing bu-ding-talk, check them out)? sqh could totally make progress if he wants to! not that he wants to! who wants to make progress with yqy??
anyway, this gets buried until the next time yqy pays sqq too much attention and sqh had the most resigned fucking look on his face. like come on. this again?
lqg is there. sqh makes incredibly awkward small talk. like haha hey how's your engagement to sqq. good? bad? ahahaha yeah, actually, sqh didn't have to ask, obviously it's bad. look, our fiances are running away with each other. people keep telling sqh that he needs to keep yue-shixiong's attention somehow, but all the advice is weird. in fact this guy last week said that sqh should hit yqy three times a day, not that sqh is going to try that --
"hmm," says lqg. "that's not a bad idea."
sqh is abruptly reminded that he is talking to lqg, a man who probably would be more interested in people if they punched him in the face.
"is that what you're doing with sqq???" says sqh.
the answer is no, of course not, don't be dumb. but like, if sqq WASN'T a poisonous snake of a man and a decent human being, lqg would mayhaps have his interest piqued with a good fight. that's so much better than flowers and haircombs. who wants courting gifts when you can have a good punch in the face.
"hahaha thanks liu-shidi but maybe not i think yue-shixiong could probably kill me if i tried," says sqh and scurries away.
fast-forward a week or two, in which sqh is having a stressful time. maybe it's tax season. maybe it's a shitty night hunt that he has no business being on. either way, yqy is there with him and good god is yqy zoned out.
is yqy actually zoned out? eh, maybe not. perhaps he is actually fully paying attention, but also he takes a look at a stand for fans while sqh is talking to him and sqh is like "shit, is this sqq again?" exasperation turning into anger while sqh is just, super stressed, and he just needs yqy to pay attention to him just this once, and the thought occurs -- well, at least two separate people have told him that he just needs to hit yqy --
all this to say that sqh just fucking decks yqy

Hi! I loved your Illustrator Shen Yuan au and wanted to know if you had more ideas for it? I feel it makes a lot of sense especially with SY’s ability to recognize literally every plant, animal, and character that showed up in the novel instantly and Qing Jing being the peak of the four arts. Also, if he played a major role in editing the wiki, do you think any of his written headcannons or speculations may have come true? Do you think he and airplane ever just use his art style to distinguish cannon fodder from the rest or do they still follow the rules of his art style despite him having never drawn them? If the first then him meeting Tianlang-jun and ZZL would be hilarious cuz he may just brush them off. Also, how does this go with Liu Qingge’s character design being different than imagined (pretty instead of burly)? How do you think this would play into a post cannon reveal? Are there any other common or uncommon hc’s in the fandom that you would combine with this?
Thanks!
going backwards with your questions: (this will be long, forgive spelling, etc, errors)
Headcanons: this is already the product of multiple headcanons! For one, SQH is solidified as the author instead of a prophet, because SY as the artist means that the world is malleable, to a degree. Also I believe in black-haired Mobei-Jun (irrelevant haha). I also would say the hc where if Shang Qinghua 'writes' something with enough intent, it might just happen.
Also, the 'world' being made of paper and so is from someone/somewhere but i forgot. Sorry ahahaha
I think this makes SY and SQH both paper/creation gods. (Discussed further later on in this mess.)
Tianlang-Jun, Zhuzhi-Lang, and Liu Qingge: The thing is, the 'design' applies to mobei Jun because SY has explicitly drawn him. Binghe's 'design' is same the PIDW official art's because this is only physically, (the contours of a creature's skull rather than binghe's nail polish) because they're real people and persons, which is an important theme that breaks character designs that include distinctive clothing. Also because of this realized state, nothing can be more real than anything else. Through the lens of a reader, we might imagine the 'world' being this collage of the artist, but this isn't the case.
That brings me to my next point: what of the world that hasn't been 'illustrated'? Of course, we can have a creation myth instead of an actual explanation:
The God who brings ascension from nothingness carves the mountains, shapes the moon, culls the suns, and folds the paper beasts, men, and flowers. The God whose palms raise all things into the light so creates the three realms. The God creates and creates and creates.
The God who witnesses watches the creations grow simpler, watches creases deteriorate, watches rushed work. The God who witnesses sees the God who arises with the world in hand grow tired. The God who witnesses paints the paper cranes, refolds the rushed creations, and refines the creases. (The God who watches paints over a tear in a silver leaf. The God leaves the gold leaf be.)
The God who paints the birds and beasts never folds the fresh paper. So concludes the creation of all and every.
(Where the silver leaf of paper is mobei-jun and the golden one is binghe.)
Shen Yuan's headcanons: of course, Airplane is the writer. He takes precedence. His headcanons only applied to his 'domain', and his 'power' only exists in the origin world (though this may change as the idea develops), and draws power from Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky's work. His role is lessening the burden, but the work has already been done.
On postcanon reveals: Shang Qinghua totally gets caught first. Actually, it's the airplane extra with the 'daddy admires you' scenes! He is forces to explain, and along the way he kicks SQQ under the bus. I won't say too much on how this spreads, but probably Mobei saying something to someone. Maybe he calls Qinghua the heavenly emperor/ the ascender in front of all the peaklords. An Ding probably already knows.
why the ascender? Airplane translates literally into flying machine. So, warp that into ascension and omnipresence. Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky ascends reality from nothing (darkness) to something (sunlight). This applies to everything, so it is comparable to a system or machine. Behold, the really irrelevant, misplaced, and overly subtle Rain World reference.
The God who Paints the birds and Beasts from Drawing the Beast's Ire warps the Ire into attention, and then Airplane's protagonist and his cool monsters drew his attention, then the poor writing his ire.
Meanwhile, Shen Qingqiu is only minorly accosted by peak lords. The problem is binghe, upset that Shizun was drawing other people. Drawing the Beast's Ire drew like 2 other characters. One is Mobei-Jun. The other is a modern-clothing binghe. He's also upset that Shang-shishu and Shizun share something as grand as the creation of the world together, and the fact that SQQ is the lesser. Additionally, unlike Mobei-Jun, he wasn't made specifically to please his God! Unfair!
Of course, binghe is very happy about this as well. He's Shizun's favorite character!
This might be high time to mention more headcanons: there are temples and shrines dedicated to airplane and occasionally the witness/the painter in the endless Abyss. This is due to the first heavenly demons, probably. How else did Xin Mo get there?
Anyway, they'd be like airplane folding paper front and center and then the painter doing his thing off to the side. Of course, there are a decent amount dedicated only to the painter.
On additional creations: Maybe Shen Qingqiu/Yuan and Shang Qinghua get together and make OC animals. They're all entirely harmless. Shang Qinghua writes their names, their abilities, and a nice good description while Shen Qingqiu/Yuan paints. Maybe it doesn't do anything. Maybe it does. It's a change of pace either way.

Hmmm…
Looking at your fandoms, I can’t help but think some sort of Bingqiu in Spy X Family (or a SxF Xianxia fusion) could be super fun!
The question is… what would their roles be.
Assassin Luo Binghe, or spy Luo Binghe… and which of them gets gender swapped. 🤔
Oh!! Maybe Shen Yuan was meant to be an ally of the female half of the main duo, Liu Mingyan, but through shenanigans he somehow ends up with her role instead, and the System demands he fake marry Binghe anyway. 😂
This is exactly the kind of prompt i was hoping for! TY!!! 🙏
The way i see it Binghe would definitely be the assassin, Shen Yuan is too big of a softie not to mention one who so easily put on the mask of another man before so he would definitely be the spy.
But also being oblivious to feelings yet a capable badass, bad in the kitchen, feeling inadequate as a partner? All Shen Yuan. Binghe with his protagonist Halo meanwhile would fit better with Mr. All around perfect Husband. So i guess it'd be a little like Yor and Loyd had switched professions.
Shen Yuan's over protective brother in a position of power? I wonder who that would be? Enter Shen Jiu haha. Rather than secret police he'd be a detective looking in to all the murders rather than keeping state secrets from spies though. To keep that rivalry between him Binghe. The family member Binghe became an assassin to provide for? His mom. The gardener AKA the guy who hired him and hands him his missions? Meng Mo. Franky, the spy's funny informant and gadget supplier, occasional babysitter and not to mention bestfriend? Shang Qinghua.
I dont know if i should replace Fiona with Liu Quinge as Fiona's character really would fit Binghe better. But Liushen is a weakness of mine even if onesided and those two were just made for coworker romances. Maybe I should give Binge someone trying to woe him too? Sha hualing? Then if i dont go with your other idea of having SY transmigrate in to Liu Mingyan (which i am saving up in my head because i absolutely love the idea) then i can add something in the background with her and Sha hualing. I'm positive i could find a way to write in Mobei for SQH or i could go with Scumplane and have him end up Shen Jiu and actually yeah that would work, need to distract SJ long enough for Bingyuan to get it on afterall. Oh what about SQH x SJ x LQG? Or should Shen Yuan get a second husbandafterall? Alternatively imagine LQG crying over a bowl of icecream.
Next question is if SY didnt transmigrate into LMY then who is he? What about Ning Yingying? Who could be SJ's little sister in this world? Or he couldve just been put in there as a female version of himself. Or like it was with Shen quingiu a character who vaguely resembles him and has a similar name. She just happens to be a woman though. Or maybe go with the mulan aproach and have him crossdress? But then how does he explain to his brother that he's suddenly - he could say that he's in love with binghe and the only way to marry him was fake his papers to pretend to be a woman since queer marriage isnt yet allowed in their fictional country. Like no one cares if they date its just they havent gotten to the legalisation of marriage yet. And if SJ asks why they had to get married so suddenly anyway (cuz no way in hell is SY getting away with saying he forgot to tell him for a year) he could say that they had to so they could adopt their daughter. Who in this case scenario could be Ning Yingying, should she still have Anyas powers? damian could be Ming fan or the little palace girl or whatever (im not yet far enough in the books to now her and the old man that well so id have to check the wiki) and i could make the palace master donovan desmond and have SY and LBH team up to take him down in the end.
Anyways yeah these are just some ideas, and again thanks for the prompt! I can't wait to write this! Maybe i'll draw something for it later too. ❤️

Submission: Hot take (maybe?): Original Luo Binghe and Original Shen Qingqiu deserve each other about as much as nieyao.
Now, I fully admit in someways I have a difficult time saying original Luo Binghe and Shen Jiu have similar ideals. I think in a way Luo Binghe had become a "perfect disciple" to Shen Jiu as he has been impressionable from their first meeting and took his words to heart. Shen Jiu did raise someone to be as hateful cruel and cut throat as he viewed the world to be. Luo Binghe became everything that Shen Jiu saw and put into the world.
He raised a fellow abuser in the position of being a teacher. In that way I hesitate that these two deserve each other the same way as Nie Mingjue and Jin Guangyao who at least were two adults who had formed their world views. Out of the pure intention of torture porn for Luo Binge to go through to the point of also doing that himself is deeply entrenched in toxic masculinity and also speaks of Shang Qinghua's own nihilistic mindset (as well as us the audience knowing of his apathetic parents as the only glimpse we see him as another person not an ambiguous "author").
In that way, I think Luo Binghe is a stand in of how hard it can be for victims to fight away from the violence that gets associated with them as well as the stigma that they're not worth being cared for any longer if they are not strong and grow into that cruelty almost as an expectation from society. Shen Jiu and original Luo Binghe are horrendous and sad renditions that plague the idea of what someone who has been abused should act according to societal and hypocritical standards society has set.

Rules: Share the first line of ten of your most recent fanfics and then tag ten people. Don't have ten? Not to worry, just share what you have. Tagged by @otakuchan449.
I did all of my fics, which are unsurprisingly all SVSSS, because I was curious as to the patterns. I usually like to name the POV character and illustrate their style of narration in the first paragraph, which is generally humorous, so people know quickly whether or not they're going to vibe with my style. I also like starting in the middle of a situation / inciting incident if possible, so we can hit the ground walking briskly if not running, and get to the good stuff.
23. Shang Houhua - someday unfortunately to be known as Shang Qinghua, once unfortunately known in another life as Airplane Shooting Towards The Sky - came back to himself abruptly. (if words could make wishes - WIP MBJ Time Travel AU from SQH POV)
22. If the System was to be trusted, which it generally was when it came to making Shang Qinghua’s life worse for no good reason, then today was the day! (Stepping Up - 90k Canon Divergence AU, An Ding Disciple LBH)
21. Shen Yuan was conscious when he was reborn, though he didn’t know what was happening at the time, because all he knew at first was pain and golden dust. (Sit With Your Soul - 61k SQQ & SY Daemon Fusion AU)
20. Shang Houhua was thirteen going on, uh, fourteen plus a whole other life that sometimes felt more like a dream than something that had actually happened. (hey, share the weight a little - 70k Canon Divergence AU, YQY/SQH)
19. “Shifu? Forgive the interruption, but there’s a woman here to see you?” (love to the ones I've never met - 83k Fic Companion, Dimension Travel)

1. Shang Qinghua has not been having a stellar transmigration experience. (pride is not the word I'm looking for - 400k Canon Divergence AU, LBH's Mother Lives)
This serves as a pretty good round-up of all my currently posted fics! There are far too many in my WIP folders to begin including everything in there.
I've been a little out of touch with reading fanfiction lately, so please, if you wish, take this post as an opportunity to participate in this game and tag me in it! I highly recommend taking a moment to revisit and admire your own fan works! Look at all that cool stuff you did! If you only have WIPs, then I don't mind if you use WIPs. Sometimes our pieces of writing are full, intensely detailed paintings that take years to complete and sometimes they're just rough sketches we do to warmup or have creative fun when we have the time, and sharing both is nice.
And if you don't have your own fan works to pull from, then I'd still love to see a list of opening lines from some of your favorite fics by other people. Any fandom you like! Give me those fic recs! Give me the opening lines of your favorite published novels if there's one you've been itching to gush about.

GTober Prompt: Cozy
(A/N: Strayed a bit from the prompt on this one, but it was also late at night and I had fun anyway. So there.)
"Shoulder Hamster"
Sometimes, Shang Qinghua really hated his system. All the shit it'd put him through had left plenty of mental scars even if his cultivation had healed up most of the physical ones over time. Missions to do the impossible, with short deadlines and deadly consequences if he failed. And don't even get him started on the wife plots.
But this? Maybe he might be able to keep his complaining down to a minimum for this.
'This' being the chance to ride Mobei-Jun's shoulder, bundled up in the fur that lined his cloak. It was like living in a freaking cloud, the fur trapping the warmth of his body quite nicely. And the view wasn't bad either.
Of course, without explanation that made no sense. Sure, his king was tall, much taller than he was, but not so much bigger that he could just ride his shoulder like that! At least, not normally.
Would have been nice if Cucumber could have warned him that the herbs he'd asked them to go grab for him usually grew in amongst ones that could shrink a human with a single taste of their pollen. Dude usually had a steel trap memory for those little details that he'd long forgotten. But no. And Qinghua had tripped and fallen face first into a patch of flowers, spitting out petals. And then yelping when the ground rushed up at him, flowers looming.
A shrinking flower. When had he written a shrinking flower? Why had he written a shrinking flower?! Donor request, it had to be. But the main point was that it left him six inches tall and staring up at the quickly moving skyscraper that was his husband.
"Qinghua!"
He scrambled back as a boot landed far too close to where he was laying, Mobei-Jun looking for any trace of his human who had, to all appearances, suddenly vanished as he hit the ground. Heart pounding, Shang Qinghua stomped (oh, wrong word to use) on the instinct to run away from the giant, waving his arms over his head instead. If Mobei saw him, he wouldn't be able to panic and run, and also wouldn't be stepped on. Which was the point!
"Down here, my king!" he shouted. Pointed ears twitched, trying to figure out the direction of his voice. "Look down!"
Slowly, Mobei turned his eyes downward, dark blue widening in shock. Normally, Shang Qinghua would have been proud to surprise his unflappable husband, but he wouldn't have gone this far to do it!
With the full force of that gaze on him, Shang Qinghua felt frozen to the spot, staring back up at him. Holy shit Mobei was huge. Like taller than his old apartment building huge.
"My king, be careful with the flowers! Don't let any of the pollen get in your- eek!"
The author let out a little scream (or maybe not so little) when his mountain of a demon suddenly moved, bending down on a knee and scooping him up off the ground without warning. He clung to cold fingers tightly in fear as Mobei stood up with him in hand. Literally in hand!
"We're going," Mobei said abruptly before opening a portal and heading towards it.
"W-wait, what about the herbs!" Shang Qinghua protested, choosing to stick to that idea to keep himself from gibbering in panic.
"Consort Shen can wait." And he stepped through.
The moment they came out in the Northern Palace, Shang Qinghua was hit with a wave of cold. He gasped, pressing himself into Mobei's fingers because even his chilly skin was warmer than the air.
Mobei noticed, his frown deepening as he looked down at him. After knowing him for so long, Shang Qinghua was one of the very few who would see the worry in his face. "What's wrong?"
"It's cold," the shrunken cultivator said with a full body shiver. Duh, of course it was cold. It was the palace of an ice demon. His ice demon. But he was tiny. Meaning he had absolutely no insolation. "Colder than normally. I think- I think it's my body."
Not long ago, the scowl that found itself on Mobei's beautiful face would have had him ducking to avoid a strike. But things had changed, and while it still made him shiver, Shang Qinghua could see that it was directly towards him, yes, but not at him.
"My king, can we go someplace warmer to figure this out?" he asked, rubbing his hands up and down his arms through the fur cloak Mobei had gifted him just last week. Normally, perfectly enough for a chilly day out in the woods. But oh it wasn't enough when he was tiny. "Our rooms, maybe? Please?"
"Hn," the demon said without answering, looking him over with narrowing eyes. Which brought him to make a decision it seemed, because Shang Qinghua was being moved again without warning, lifted up higher and deposited on one well muscled shoulder. More precisely, among the fur that covered that shoulder. "You should be warmer there."
The cultivator latched onto the thick fur of the cloak, marveling at how soft it still felt even with the difference of scale someplace under the freak out that was going on over the fact that he was freaking tiny! Tiny and just carried along for the ride when Mobei started to walk.
"You can't just keep moving me around like that!" he protested. "My heart can't take the shock."
Mobei-Jun tilted his head to look down at him. "Are you warmer?"
Shang Qinghua was about the respond when he realized that yes, yes he was. The fur was soft and dense, and already starting to warm up with his body heat. "Oh! Um, yes, I guess I am."
His nod in response was satisfied, having proved himself caring for his mate once again.
He also hadn't told him where they were going.
Shang Qinghua huffed softly and used the fur like a climbing line to find a more stable place to sit than out near the point of admittedly lovely shoulders. Which ended up being just shy of the junction between neck and shoulder.
Settling down into the fur as Mobei walked, gently rocking him like he were on a great ship, he could admit that maybe, just maybe this wouldn't be so bad. He was certainly cozy when he was. And who else could say they'd ridden the great King Mobei-Jun's shoulder.
No iceberg would be sinking this ship, no sir! Full speed ahead!
Now if he only knew where they were actually going...

:3c Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love❤
1.
and i’m reminded of the simple life (where I work and just be used) (SVSSS) Shang Qinghua
It’s my Shang Qinghua superwhump fic with an overlaying plot that evolved from a one shot I had written one morning over coffee before work a few years ago. I never anticipated it growing into something of this scale. Through this fic, I’ve been able to explore certain characters and their motivations and behaviors in ways I wouldn’t in other stories. It’s great fun for me <3
2.
Shakespeare in the Park (Skyrim) Dominic Moriah (OC)
My good old insert-OC Dominic and his adventures in Skyrim, transmigration gamer style. This one is a story I’ve been working off and on for YEARS and I still have so much planned for it. I’ve barely even started m. The fact i have gotten so many comments on this fic along the lines of “I don’t even go here (skyrim) but I love this story” is mind boggling. I hope my writing was able to inspire someone to play the game at least once 👀
Plus, Dominic as a character is just so much fun to write. And, gratifyingly, I have been told he’s also very fun to read.
3.
Ear to the Wall (Naruto) Hatake Kakashi
Ah, my baby. One of my most successful fics ever. Topping the charts of my statistics. Raking in the bread (I wish lmao).
The fact that this story, too, started from just a one shot of a vague idea I had one day and somehow snowballed into this absolute monstrosity that so many people love is what I live for as a writer. So many people nuts enjoy reading about sick baby Kakashi tumbling blindly through his own time travel fix-it, and it breathes life into me every day.
4.
above, and beyond, and below (MDZS) Su She (OC-Insert)
Genuinely I am so proud of the way I’ve written this story. I can reread it and come across barely any points in which I feel like rewriting, which is rare! The pacing, the emotion, the character voices, the implications of future plot points… I wanna chef kiss myself with tongue for the great job I’ve been doing with this story.
Plus, the amount of people who have raged at me for making them cry with this one specifically is how I survive in this cold and cruel world 💖
5.
bundle up tight (American Dragon Jake Long) Jake
Listen, this fandom could use some new blood. Not people, I mean, just stories — I mean, the world building potential alone! It deserves more attention. The sandbox is unlimited and there’s room for more people to build castles next to my small and humble home.
I’ll come back myself and read this one, and it always brings me joy. Nostalgia paired with my own ideas in writing it just makes me feel cozy.
Honorable mentions:
Pelsitheos (Percy Jackson) Percy [time travel, canon overhaul, character motivation focus, collecting adoptable characters] WIP
cornered animals bear their teeth (SVSSS) Shang Qinghua [throat tearing, badass SQH, infatuated MBJ, just 😏] COMPLETE
Attempt #2 (Trash of the Count’s Family) Cale Henituse|Kim Rok Soo [protective papa Eruhaben, best big brother Alberu, Cale Henituse Protection Squad] COMPLETE

Bringing a MDZS, TGCF and SV crossover again.
Lmao a fix where post-canon: Shang Qinghua finished writting Heaven's official blessing and Grandmaster of Demonic cultivation, because he wanted to do those stories after finishing PIDW -but died- and then began to retell them to his lovely husband. After hearing him read all of MDSZ Mobei Jun stares and him and is just...
"It's about those clans located to the far southeast right?" And Shang Qinghua is like "what? What do you mean?" And so they come to look at a map and see that. In fact. They. Exist.
Shang Qinghua is so confused because tf?!? they aren't supposed to exist at all!! Yet the story had already been placed!
However, as goes through his notes again, he finds a few differences between the novels and real life.
1rst is that the Nie and Jin clan exists, he didn't want those two clans to exist in the second draft so that they don't add fuel to the angst, cucumber bro had dammed him to hell for it! And he doesn't need another cucumber bro!!
2nd is, with the existence of the tiny Mo clan– after the two of them went to explore that southeast part a little bit.– it means that there is definitely going to be the resurrection of the Yiling Patriarch, once more he made angst but just on the first draft!! On the second it was going to be that Wei Wuxian had been kept alive for 13 years raising Lan Sizhui and falling in love with Lan Wangji!
3rd is the fact that the Jumeng clan– after asking nearby people who they are– JIANG FENGMIAN AND YU ZIYUAN EXIST AND ARE ALIVE!
Mobei Jun: "Those characters in the book?"
AHHHHHH AND THEY HAVE ALREADY GOTTEN JIANG YANLI AND JIANG CHENG WHAT THE HECK!!!!
DEATH FLAGS
TOO MANY DEATH FLAGS!!
CUCUMBER BRO WILL HAVE HIS HEAD!!
"Then there is only one posibility!! One!!" Shang Qinghua immediately runs around Yiling city and asks Mobei Jun who is hidding his identity with a shape-shifting talisman of sorts -have to thank those fans for suggesting the weirdest kinky ideas for that talisman to appear- to help him "find a small child very scared of dogs, poor and if you give him fruits! Any! he smiles! And if you see him to capture him right away!"
So Shang Qinghua and Mobei Jun try to find as fast as they can the little Wei wuxian and SQH does find him! Yay! Plot devoid of stupidity! But oh no.
[System Updating]
[Syatem Updating]
"Oh fuck" He doesn't even have time to explain, Shang Qinghua just grabs Wei Wuxian out of the dog fight and holds on to him before any System tries to tell him to stay away so angst continues. And he guesses right because the system starts to crash in his eyes, seeing it as a win he goes back to Mobei Jun who has a lot of kids in his arms. A lot.
"Orphans... I forgot to say orphans." Mobei Jun glares at him while the kids cry for their parents.
The two do a lot of apologies that day.
Meanwhile baby Wei Wuxian is just confused about the whole thing, "who are they?"
At first with how many kids were in Mobei Jun's hands he was sure they where kidnappers but then after all of that the tiny one says they found him? And then they have to quickly run before the cultivators catch them! Are they good guys? Are they bad guys!?
Shang Qinghua finally feels the poor boy tremble under his arm and so he settles the boy down once they are at an inn and very far away from the police sort of cultivators.
Shang Qinghua brings him to a bed and then proceeded to ask him a few things.
"You are Wei Ying right?"
Mobei Jun crashed at that point. Cuz, that's the name of the child, the demonic cultivator in the books. But the books already painted him as a man who had become an immortal, not the little child on the streets ooooohhhh what the fuck—
"You parents... they are Cangse Sanren and Wei Changze are they not?"
The boy beams "You know them? Then are you my mama's family? My baba's?"
"Ah... somewhat..."
"Really!?" Shang Qinghua had to lie saying that he is his uncle, and to go get a shower while they bring him some clothes later on. So now that boy leaves he is left with a Mobei Jun more than willing to listen and ask the thousands of questions he has.
Eventually Shang Qinghua tells him everything. [System Error. System Error] The systems simply says, so he guesses hopes that nothing bad will happen if he told the truth.
And nothing does! Ah! That's so good, goddammit he is crying so much to finally reveal everything. Every single thing! From his life as a writer, to his creation of PDIW how he had to listen to the fans so he could eat for once, how he then met Peerless cucumber which IS Shen Qinqiu though he wasn't meant to be and neither was he also meant to be here, and how both of them where destined to die yet they changed the storyline into something that looked like the first few drafts and then how he was thinking about writting more stories and he finally ends it once they think Wei Ying has been in the bathroom for too long and so Shang Qinghua goes to take care of him, grabbing some clothes they asked a maid to buy for them and had already been delivered.
So Mobei Jun has to process a lot. He is very quiet about it —possibly going through every stage of every emotion imaginable. Well Qinghua can't blame him! He just learned he is God!—
Once Wei Wuxuan has eaten and slept Mobei Jun just goes like "You are the worst god."
"I know."
The next day the cop cultivators are still searching while Shang Qinghua and Mobei Jun book it out with Wei Wuxian to the central plains and crash at Cang Qiong Mountain. No one bats an eye as to why a demon ice king is present, they ask Yue Qingyuan where Qing Jing peak lord is, then find him in in and middle of finishing a papapa, after they let him finish did they deliver the news to him. Sadly Binghe had to leave and not listen because the System works on him, PDIW' pov comes from him and therefore if the readers where to find out the existence of the transmigators... (are you serious system? They are still reading?) [System Error. The existence of transmigation and the System must not be shared with Protagonist Luo Binghe.]
(Fuck you.)
Shen Qingqiu: "Airplane. Private chat. Now."
"I'm going to die aren't I?"
Wei Wuxian flinched at the dramatic screams but Mobei Jun just huddles him close cuz no, he kinda deserved that. (Poor Binghe, his especial husband food is now being given to this Wei child.)
The two modern AU bros are still shouting outside, Shen Qingqiu trying to get all the information of ANY thing he has ever written, Even the textbooks from high-school! Yes! The cringe things he posted at 13 too! Everything! Everything!
But poor Airplane bro can only remember making Grandmaster of Demonic cultivation and Heaven's Official Blessing.
So while Wei wuxian is munching on more delicacy of the Demon Emperor food, and Binghe is eating with the boy, reluctantly. Shang Qinghua, Shen Qingqiu and Mobei Jun begin planning out some things.
1rst- To stop Shang Qinghua from writting ever again or just make him write some thing that could be useful, let's see how his God powers develop really.
2nd- Xianle Kingdom is still alive and surprisingly the place where Granmaster of Demonic cultivation takes place in, so that might explain the existence of ghosts and why no one cared about the kingdom or the Emperor in MDZS. Well anyways Shen Qingqiu will go to Xianle before Mei Nianqing and hopefully intercept the child from becoming a chosen one of Jun Wu and hopefully manage to prevent Xianle's downfall once and for all.
"Ah but Cucumber bro, the story takes place between ghosts and gods. We are neither of those."
[System Updated.]
[Mission: Lighten the story but the events must stay the same. Access to heaven has been granted if one can achieve level 150.]
"Oh look we have the levels above our heads, and the stats of everyone too!"
Shen Qingqiu Level 100
Mobei Jun level 113
Shang Qinghua Level 60
They go to the other room.
Luo Binghe Level 250.
"Jesus fucking Christ."
Alright new plan, Shang Qinghua will become a cultivator friend or teacher in Lotus Pier so as to keep a close eye on Wei wuxian's growth, rescue him before he looses his golden core but still have to learn demonic cultivation, rescue his family, if he can too, and saving the Wen remnants, which is going to be an enough for the clans to have a reason to kill him. Hahaha.....ha...
Shen qingqiu will have to be the Guoshi of Xianle, trying to also reprimand the future Green ghost's misbehavior and setting Xie Lian in a right path but one that is mundane enough. Maybe him just becoming a King will be fine.
Binghe will have to be convinced to become the heavenly emperor in case Xie Lians protagonist powers are too much and Mobei Jun gets to do all the spy work seeing if he can save some other characters from disaster like the ones from Yi city or preventing Banyue from falling, the Wen remnants from being abused and Wen Ning from being killed, guiding the poor bride ghost's resentment away or even saving He Xuan wayyy before the beefleaf arc starts. Shang Qinghua will be there too after taking care of Wei Wuxian first.
- - - - -
It just... it'll be fun seeing like:
- Wei Wuxian learning Demonic cultivation from actual demons. Angst by resusitating Hua Cheng so that he might protect Xie Lian especially during the 33 gods that tried to fight Xie Lian for the mountain.
-Posibility of the Yiling Wei clan established with the help of Shang Qinghua and Mobei Jun bringing in protection and poor characters who definely need to be here: usual Mo Xuanyu, Xue Yang, Wen Yuan, rest Wen remnants, A Qing for good measure. BUT ALSO feral Quan Yizhen, Shi Qingxuan with so much bad luck on his hands (despite Shi Wudu not wanting to) and maybe even Hua Cheng trying to learn how become really strong to protect his Majesty after he got banished by Mu Qing.
- If Mei nianqing gets found out then Shen Qingqiu will have to help him out and OH Heavenly Emperor Luo Binghe fight vs Jun Wu. Will that protagonist halo work?! Will it not!?! Hmmmmmm
-Maybe god Xie Lian VS god Luo Binghe. Who truly is the strongest protagonist!
-Qing Jing Peak's newly turned good but not really disciple: Prince Xiao Jing
-Mobei Jun just being used as a water source for the Burial Grounds and Yong An so they don't die.
-Omg Mobei Jun slapping some Qi or something to remedy Nie Mingjue so he doesn't die, still crashes into a comma or something. Woops.
-Yanli and Yingying friendship. Ultimate Shijies who got each other's back(literally).
-Wen Qing and Mu Qingfang talking about medicine and plants. Or better yet, some of the wen remnants that dont really master demonic cultivation becoming members of Ciang Qiong Sect.
-Nie Huasiang and Ling Wen where helped once by Shang Qinghua and suddenly started gathering suspicion as to who he was coming out of nowhere in their greatest need and deviating some plot points with his husband who is really a demon king. How does this man know other gods and has so many important people by his side? What can he see? What cant he?
-OMG Shi Qingxuan and Mo Xuanyu Dress Up BESTIES!!
-Zhuzhi-lang and Wen Ning just being Zhuzhi-lang and Wen Ning, maybe they strike up a friendship, maybe Wen Ning gets pretty scared at first.
-Demons and Ghosts hell yeah.
-Sha Hualing absolutely wreaks havoc with Wei Wuxian in Ghost City and Hua Cheng already grown up, depending if he died or not he is just : "Wei Shifu, why."
-Mei Nianqing and Shen Qingqiu playing cards. "You know solitare?" "No -_-." "Uno?" " No, do tell Shen Daozhang. 0-0" Song Lan and Xiao Xingcheng also agree to play. Mei Nianqing catching feelings of nostalgia because the three remind him of his old friends.
-Luo Binghe dying trying to teach Xie Lian and Wei Wuxian how to cook. He couldn't T-T.
-Mobei DAD! Of He Xuan because the misfortune killed him so he has to guide this ghost to not kill but he is filled by pure hatred dammit! And the same goes for the Xuan Ji who can't stop obsessing over Pei Ming so he has to tell her "he ain't worth it" every time. He finds Yin Yu and Banyue too and just has to take a minute into buttheading and slamming Pei Ming.
-heh Mobei Jun and Yushi Huang, gods who helped out humanity and are 100% done with Heaven shenanigans.
-Oh Shang Qinghua and Mobei Jun possibly giving the Jiang children all the love they deserve ♥❤<333
-Jun Wu being bad by uniting forces with ghost Tianlang-Jun but ghost Tianlang-Jun gets Jun Wu into ✨Danmei✨
"Luo Binghe that kid... doesnt he look like you?"
"Yeah he is my son."
"..."
"Hes gay."
"Oh... well mine isnt."
TLJ Pointing to Hualian "are you sure about that?"
-OH Maybe Jiang Yanli can learn martial arts under Qi Qingqi!
-Nie Mingjue wanting his little brother to succeed as head of the sect but Liu Qingge just says that he should follow his dreams and passions just like his sister has done. "And what is your sister?" "Worldwide renown writter no you cannot ask of w h a t."
-Xie Lian: Biological son of a King and queen, Emotional son of two Heavenly Gods equal in power and two weird Immortals as they fight for custody. Married to a ghost king who studied under the grandmaster of Demonic cultivation who in turn was taken care of and taught by the literal primordial creator with his demonic ice king.
Oh you know what will be funny? Is if they actually KNOW Shang qinghua is their creator but only after 800 years have passed or something and Shang Qinghua finally archives Godhood and the entirety of heaven just gasps and stays in silence as they see the Immortal Shang qinghua looks THE SAME even to the smallest details as the grand Jade Emperor that stands in the main hall of the heavenly palace. He is truly the first Jade Emperor. AND HE IS BACK OMG OMG OMG!!
Only the most powerful gods could have access to this site, and: Heavenly Supreme god Luo Binghe who didn't care about heaven, Literature God Shen Qingqiu always cooped up taking care of earth whose only reason of becoming a God was so he could endure papapa, God of death Wei Wuxian in Ghost city, God of Winter Mobei Jun having tea times and harvesting Yong An as well as taking care for the Mobei clan, God of Music Lan Wangji playing sad music whenever his husband wasn't home and papapaing when he was, Martial God Xie Lian... um...
WELL All the Gods he knew of where doing one thing or another and therefore NO ONE had told him about the history of heavenly emperors until he had been kidnapped by Jun Wu who then explained that OH GOD NO WHAT DO YOU MEAN GOD SHEN YUAN WAS ANOTHER CREATOR TOO! OF THE SYSTEM!??! THE FUCK—

closed starter for shang qinghua!! ( @irresistiibles )
Tumblr media
the irritation that he'd felt the night before hasn't faded as he heads downstairs, already tensed and waiting for another argument even when the two of them had very solidly agreed to stay away from each other as much as possible. not that that really felt like a solution, considering he still had no answers as to what the hell was going on or who any of these people actually are. the house feels eerily quiet, though he can't place why it's so unsettling to hear no noise coming from the other man's room or office, even so early, when peace and quiet is all he'd wanted for weeks. eventually, he spots a sheet of paper sitting on the table, only a few words scrawled over it, and though they shouldn't, they tie a knot in his stomach as he drops it back to the table. "qinghua." mobei-jun calls, easily loud enough to be heard from anywhere in the house, but there's no reply, and he's already moving back up the stairs, opening the door to qinghua's bedroom a bit more quickly than he'd ever admit, only to find all of his things cleared out. he'd left? after all that, he'd left?
he'd left.
it hits him then, like a ton of bricks, why everything has been so odd the last few weeks. he was going to throttle sha hualing for playing dress up with his corpse. his corpse, because he had died, and lost his memories as a result. and... fuck, what a mess he'd ended up in, he'd once again managed to fuck things up with his human. and now he was gone. again. and mobei-jun had no idea where he was. again. he's trying not to panic, but considering what had happened the last time he'd vanished... it's not going well. there were plenty of texts and calls to qinghua's phone, attempting to explain, as well as to luo binghe, sha hualing, and shen qingqiu, though with the early hour, it's some time before he gets a response, shen qingqiu confirming that qinghua is with him and the emperor. before the other even hangs up, he's stepping through the shadows into the spare room in the emperor's home. he can relax just a bit as he confirms the other is unhurt, speaking up after a moment. "qinghua."

I'm pretty certain this is not a new idea, but it's kinda relevant for one of the fics I'm writing, so please consider:
The Northern Demon Kings all have an expiration date, because the ancestral power their clan hoards and covets is poison. Some bear it better and rule for thousands of years before it wears them down. Some are not compatible with this horrid amalgamation of energies and fade quickly. There was the rare occasion when the wannabe king died from trying to assimilate the power and never lived to be officially crowned.
Mobei-jun - not Shang Qinghua's hulky ice demon, but his father - has been slowly, painfully dying since the moment he took on the power of his ancestors.
In canon Linguang-jun tells young Mobei (Qinghua's Mobei, our Mobei) that he should die young like his father. Linguang-jun himself isn't very old, likely no more than 10-20 years older than Mobei, so Mobei-jun probably inherited the throne not long before Mobei was born. Mobei-jun doesn't even rule a full century, in the end. He wastes away from the strain of keeping the ancestral power controlled. He neglects his family. He neglects his kingdom. He withdraws from the public eye except for his appearances at court where he has all the means to keep up the illusion of a strong, if eccentric and lazy king.
The king is dying.
It's a secret that weighs heavily on those who know.
Mobei doesn't know until he has to take over most duties of the fading king and he still doesn't know the cause; he assumes it has to be the result of some poison or assassination attempt. Mobei-jun is too proud to admit what he sees as the consequences of a personal failing to his son, although he does write his thoughts down in a series of journals meant for Mobei to find and read after Mobei-jun has passed.
Linguang-jun knows - how could he not? He was barely a teen when he had to start supporting his brother, picking up the slack in administration and rulership where his brother can't. Him dropping off his young nephew in the human world was an impulsive act of lashing out - a teenager having to do too much for his older brother with too much responsibility, coupled with his very young nephew going through a very clingy/annoying/needy phase made him snap and deal with the stressor he had the ability to deal with: smol Mobei. He regretted it almost immediately, but he couldn't admit that it was because of all the stress he was under (and he couldn't have explained it to his nephew without divulging his brother's state of health, which he swore not to do) so he just doubled down on the assassination attempt angle and then stewed in bitter regret.
Mobei-jun, when he finally becomes king, gets author's favorite blorbo treatment which means he can basically rule until the end of the world if he so pleases, but not without side effects. One cannot hold the cumulated power of a bloodline as ancient and powerful as the Mobei clan without paying the price.
But that's an idea for another day.

SVSSS AU: Uncle Shen Jiu
Qui Haitang is Shen Jiu's ‘sister’ - and she's shen yuan's mother why? because.  then shen jiu is shen jiu jiujiu
This AU features Shen Yuan going from "huh this isn't too bad" straight to "OH SHIT WHAT THE FUCK"
for the fun sake of this AU - Shen Jiu didn didn't do his murder arson routine
instead, he escaped with help from qht who saw the abuse earlier and incorrectly assumed it was the other servants (Shen Jiu did not correct her)
QJ 100% had creepy designs on his sister because who the fuck marries their prized sister off to a slave they love to beat the shit out of? no one who doesn't intent to murder said slave and make their sister a widow so she stays at the estate
Invest in incest with some extra steps!
i do not know who he probably ends up marrying her off to without Shen Jiu? but, someone i guess who he then murders.  Someone important, probably - He wouldn't accept anything less
but! oh no! qht was un/lucky? enough to get knocked up on her wedding night!  throughout the pregnancy shes,,, starting to see that. maybe. maybe QJL had her perfectly nice husband murdered. and might be a massive creep maybe.
anyway, she's aware Shen Jiu is a cultivator now, they send letters. they are friends. Shen Jiu deserves good things.
also he got back while Yue Qingyuan was still locked in a cave for his own good so hes not as horrifically bitter and QHT teases him aboutYue Qingyuan because hes the only person on the damn mountain that Shen Jiu has ever said anything nice about
Shen Yuan is trans. so everyone is like "oh! QHT you had a little girl!" and QJL is is like "hm." and QHT then is like "oh god oh no i was right why was i right"
QHT has  Shen Yuan young - like 20, so Shen Jiu is also about 20 and is head disciple, in line to succeed
so QHT invites Shen Jiu to  Shen Yuan 's 100 day ceremony, as an 'esteemed cultivator' - he comes in a veil with Yue Qingyuan
 XANXIA HEIST
they need to get the baby out of the house. its a baby heist
the plan is - get the baby out of the house and away to cang qiong, wait for QJL to snap and go looking for the baby himself/with whatever shadey people he finds and then murder the man in a forest. blame some demonic creature
then QHT is lady of the estate and gets her baby back
but! oh no! QJL becomes some svsss version of a ghost king! they cant kill him unless they find his ashes, and because he died trying to find  Shen Yuan he has an obsession with looking for him
so while QHT is safe, baby  Shen Yuan is not! and QHT can't visit too often or QJL will track the baby through her
 so, accidental baby acquisition, heist
also like. the pure fixit fic chaos of Shen Jiu running around doing his shit with this tiny baby strapped to his chest.
Yue Qingyuan and QHT are ghost hunting. QHT is a cultivator because she deserves it. Shen Jiu is a single father
LQG is babysitter. He has no clue what to do. LQG is having an aneurysm and he has no idea how fucking lucky he is this baby is a transmigrator
Shen Yuan causes hell for  Shang Qinghua
Shen Yuan 's favourite pass time is trying to see how many ways he could kill himself under LQG's care. Shen Jiu has picked him up from bai zhan a bit early which made  Shen Yuan panic, because he'd just stolen all of lqg's explosive talismans for laughs
Shen Yuan being way too smart for a baby and all the cultivators being like "yeah idk what children are like, this seems right"
LQG does know, but because  Shen Yuan is "related" to Shen Jiu he thinks it's what to expect.  Of course that bastard would have a smart baby, it's whatever

Sacrifice
I don't seemed to have saved the original prompt but I do love this idea
Ao3
Shang Qinghua should have known better, the second he figured out the mayor was appropriating city funds he should have booked it out of town. Instead, like an idiot, he’d tried to blackmail the man without much of a back up plan.
Which made him an easy target for the angry mob.
They’d pulled him from his bed and marched him several hours away from town and strung him up on a stake at the base of the mountain.
As a sacrifice to appease the dragon.
He’d lived in the city his entire life so he’d never seen even a glimpse of the beast rumoured to rule over the nearby mountains. But he had seen the signs.
Fields burnt at a creature’s whim, livestock bitten in half, claw marks in the soil twice as wide as he was tall.
The people were lucky though, it never attacked the city, or inhabited farmsteads. There hadn’t been a need for a sacrifice in over a century.
Despite that the townsfolk didn’t take much convincing, most had never really liked him much to begin with. Which was understandable, but good luck to them next tax season. The King would still want his due and ‘we sacrificed the bursar’ would probably not be considered a reasonable excuse.
The thought of revenge; even one especially petty, did little to help him out now. They had left him alone, staked in a clearing at the base of the mountain. Easy pickings for the beast.
Except it never came.
Shang Qinghua struggled, begging and pleading, hoping maybe one of his kinder neighbours might return to free him. But no one did.
He twisted his wrists in an attempt to free them from the rope. His skin got scraped raw but the bindings never loosened.
He began to shiver as snow began to fall and the chill easily reached him through his meagre night shirt.
Mobei Jun had heard a commotion while he was out hunting. As a rule he avoided people, but there had been such a large number that his curiosity took hold. Rather than following the group though he followed their tracks to find out what they’d been doing so far from the safety of their town.
The tracks led him to the clearing at the base of the mountain. There was a large stake buried in the ground a hole through the top of the wood where a rope was looped and knotted as it arched down to wrap around the limbs of a poor creature tied to it.
He took a step towards it and hi boot crunched in the snow, at the sound the creature began to squirm and writhe.
“PLEASE HELP ME! I don’t wanna die, PLEASE! Let me go, I’ll do whatever you want! Serve you! Follow you! I DON’T WANT TO BE DRAGON FOOD!”
Mobei Jun approaches the stake and the man eyes him pitifully almost relieved.
“Please, Please untie me, I’ll serve you the rest of my days. Please”
His voice trembles weakly and there are tears clinging to his lashes.  His speckled cheeks are red. He looks vulnerable, enticing—
“Don’t let the dragon take me.”
Unwilling.
It wasn’t an unheard of practice, towns and villages leaving their kin out for the ruler of the mountain. But it had been centuries since the last sacrifice, in the stories of the old kings they had all been willing.
Mobei Jun frowns. What sort of monster would take an unwilling sacrifice? Even his uncle wouldn’t be so crass.
He drops the bear he had caught and moves to untie the man.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you.” Even in this form he towers over the sacrifice. It makes the man look delicate.
The man shakes as he falls to the snow, weak from the bindings. Mobei Jun can smell the blood on his wrists.
 “I—I’m Shang Qinghua.”
“Mobei Jun.” He grunts out his name, it’s only polite. Shang Qighua stares at him in awe.
“Thank you for saving me Mobei Jun,” He says Mobei’s name reverently ”I owe you my life… and I intend to repay it, of course. I’ll serve you forever, that was my promise.”
Mobei Jun doesn’t really know what to make of this man. He doesn’t particularly need a servant, but he nods anyway. If only just to placate the skittish creature.
Shang Qinghua tries to get to his feet but he falls over, much like a newborn deer. Mobei Jun sighs.
He picks Shang Qinghua up and the man yelps, he’s easily slung over Mobei Jun’s shoulder before the hunter grabs his discarded quarry and takes them both to a nearby cave.
The man squeaks again when he’s dropped on hard packed dirt, and Mobei Jun tries not to think about how delicious the sound is. Shang Qinghua is unwilling and that is the end of it.
Except Shang Qinghua is shaking, shivering so much his desperate praise and thanks is nothing more than stuttering. He’s too cold.
Mobei Jun often forgets about the cold.
But he’s seen other suffer its effects and knows it is not good. He drops the bear next to Shang Qinghua and leaves to search for firewood.
The snow had been light, but the search for something dry took him far from the cave. Sure any branch would burn but the smoke from wet tinder would irritate even Mobei Jun’s lungs and that wouldn’t bode well for his sacrifice’s likely weaker constitution.
It was strange for him to have to think of the needs of another, but he had rescued the man. Shang Qinghua would be his responsibility until he no longer needed help. He idly wondered what it might be like to entertain the man for longer.
Hunger starts to gnaw at him, there was a reason he’d been out hunting, but he’d left his kill with Shang Qinghua in the cave, it was likely growing cold.
Perhaps he’d just rip it apart, damn the pelt. He rarely found use for them anyway, his only care was getting the fur in the meat and he was almost too hungry to care about that.
Eventually he finds a fallen tree, dry enough for tinder, he hoists it over his shoulder and makes his way back to the cave.
As he gets closer there is the unmistakable tang of blood in the air, and a worrying thought crosses his mind.
What if some sort of predator had gotten to Shang Qinghua while he was gone?
Something possessive curls in his gut, he’d found the man, and freed him. While Mobei Jun hadn’t laid any claim on Shang Qinghua most denizens of the forest would know to stay away from whatever he touches.
Unless the humans were back.
He increases his speed, dropping the tree outside the cave, his anger leaking out of him in a black aura.
But inside it's just Shang Qinghua. Yelping and scrambling away from him.
The man’s hands are bloody, and some is even smeared on his face, but upon closer inspection it’s not human blood.
The corpse of his prey sits in the corner of the cave while the cleanly removed pelt is spread in the centre, it appears as though Shang qinghua had been scraping the hide clean.
“I— I promised I could be useful.” Shang Qinghua cowers under Mobei Jun’s gaze and he feels shame for letting his emotions take over. Mobei Jun was not used to being so uncontrolled.
Shang Qinghua watches him warily, his hands shake and his breath mists through the cool air. He must still be freezing. Mobei Jun retrieves the log.
“I brought firewood.” He proceeds to snap the log over his knee so he can rip it into chunks for a fire.
Shang Qinghua’s saviour was absolutely terrifying and ridiculously sexy in that order. There were strong men in the town he was from but none with quite the same physique as Mobei Jun.
Watching the man rip apart lumber with his bare hands did things to Shang Qinghua he wasn’t sure his nightshirt could hide if it wasn’t so bloody cold.
He distracted himself with building a meagre hearth while Mobei Jun piled the torn lumber against a wall in the cave.
Once he had the small pit ringed with stone Shang Qinghua realized the problem.
“Do— do you have a flint?” Mobei Jun gave him an incredulous look, “to light it?”
“Go clean up, I’ll take care of it.” Mobei Jun indicated Shang Qinghua’s blood stained hands.
His hands shook as he used snow to clean the blood from his hands, skinning the bear had given him something to do but the cooling blood had chapped his hands, he could barely feel his fingers but the ice relieved some of the pain from his blistered wrists.
He couldn’t stay outside for too long though his nightshirt did nothing to stop the wind. Thankfully by the time he was clean Mobei Jun had managed to get a respectable fire going, and was already working on stripping the bear. Despite his taciturn nature Mobei Jun has been more than accommodating, though he’s yet to accept Shang Qinghua’s offer of service. Which is a little frustrating seeing as Shang Qinghua currently has nowhere else to go. He can’t return to his home, if it is even still there. It’s probably been sacked by now, and even if he went back the mayor would have the townspeople just stake him out for the dragon a second time, or worse.
He couldn’t even use his credentials elsewhere, or the king would wonder why one of his bursar’s had left his post. He needed protection, something a burly woodsman like Mobei Jun could likely provide. He just needed to convince the man he could be useful.
“I— uh, I can cook the meat if you like?”
Sitting next to the fire to cook was a good idea, the heat was delightful, and the smell of the roasting meat was heavenly.
Mobei Jun insisted he eat the first portion, which was probably for th best. The large man picks the rest of the animal clean, barely waiting for it to warm let alone cook. Even with his above average size Shang Qinghua doesn’t know where he’s putting it all.
But he doesn’t really worry about it, right now Mobei Jun is his only hope. He lets Mobei Jun finish eating while he tries to work the stiffness out of his hands.
“I meant what I said.”
Mobei Jun lazily turns his gaze to Shang Qinghua, now that he’s satiated his hunger he can examine the man more closely.
“Mnn.”
“About serving you, I-I’m useful, I can cook and clean, or do taxes if you need.”  Mobei Jun finds it odd that the man who was an unwilling sacrifice would offer himself up now
“Taxes?” “I used to do accounting, but I have other skills! I promise I can be of use.Whatever you need! I just… I don’t think I can go back.”  his eyes shine with unshed tears, “I— I pissed off some powerful people. They’ll probably try to sacrifice me again, or just kill me.”
Mobei Jun cannot stop the growl emanating from his chest. Shang Qinghua had not been a proper offering, not at first. He was an unwilling sacrifice as a pawn to people in power, mocking the tradition they mimicked.
But now he was offering himself proper, not on the behalf of some pitiful town, but for the sake of survival. Mobei Jun had watched over the mountain for years but the town had never been of use of him. Shang Qinghua however had.
The indignity of it moves him to stand, it startles Shang Qinghua. Mobei Jun picks up the pelt and drops it over Shang Qinghua’s shoulders.
“Rest, I protect what’s mine.”
“I’m yours?” The man looked small, enveloped in fur.
“If that is what you wish.” The smile that lights up Shang Qinghuas face pleases Mobei Jun.
“Yes, you’re too good, thank you!”
“Rest, I will return soon.”
“Where are you going?” Shang Qinghua seems reluctant to follow, he’s still too cold to leave the warmth of the fire.
“Hunting.”
He doesn’t wait for a reply leaving the cave. It seems like it was past time to remind humanity of his rule.
He wasn’t just the king of the mountain, the north was his domain and they had forgotten the respect he was owed.
He stretches his wings, unfurling his true form and taking to the sky.
It was time to show them the true might of the dragon, and exactly what one was willing to do for their sacrifice.
