I have a headcanon that Aemond’s first eyepatch was a bulky, ugly thing that the maesters just threw together after Driftmark and then forgot about making a new one.

Helaena takes one look at it and goes “nope not fucking happening” and uses her embroidery skills to make him a new one that Aemond won’t be embarrassed wearing (it’s black and boyish and she hopes he won’t mind the spider she stitched into the corner).

He wears the thing until it’s literally falling apart and mere scraps of cloth (he doesn’t mind the spider).

(As soon as she can, Alicent commissions a leather worker to create a proper eye patch for Aemond, and although he wears it, he keeps the old one in his saddlebag with Vhagar as a good luck charm).
