Swearing Jar || Upstead x daughter
Tumblr media
Summary: Sophia is Hailey's and Jay's teenage daughter. She deffends Makayla from some bullys, now she has to pay the price.
*re-posting this because I'm stupid and accidentaly erased my other blog 🫠
This was the first fic I dared to post, I'm so glad I found it!
"Yeah, get out of here, you fucking asshole!"
Everyone at Molly's stood silent when they heard the screeming from outside the bar. The voice of the girl was unmistakable, everyone knew who she was. Hailey and Jay shared a concerned look.
"And don't you dare to even look at her again, you moron!"
It was defenitely Sophia. No doubt.
Hailey and Jay stood up in a hurry to go outside, followed by Adam and Kim, naturally Makayla was with her. From the other side of the bar, a concerned Severide also rushed to help.
"Or other wise you'll have to respond to me, you jerk! And I won't be any gentile!"
That last phrase made Hailey's and Jay's blood run cold. Everything happened so fast. Before they could reach the entrance door, it opened. Will Halstead was leading a furious Sophia and a crying Mckayla inside of the bar. Once the three of them were inside, and before the door closed, Lydia pocked her head out and yelled her last insult.
"Fucker!"
-"Sophia, please! That's enough!" Will took her from the shoulders and turned her inside of the bar.
Molly's was closed to the public that day, there was a party to celebrate Violet's and Gallo's engagement. So Sophia and Mckayla were able to be there along with their parents and friends. The place was full of firefighters, detectives and some doctors from The Med.
All of the guests were shocked looking at the girls, mostly looking at Sophia. They knew she was an impulsive girl, but their faces were showing confusion and concern.
Kim and Adam immediatly ran to hug their daughter. When Sophia raised her head she saw Hailey, Jay and Severaid in front of her, but also Platt, Hermann and Cruz had arrived to the scene. They were in a defensive position, ready to go out to defend the girls. Will raised his hands, saying that everything was ok.
Hailey walked to Sophia, Jay behind his wife. Both of them looking at their daughter straight to the eyes, asking for an explanation with a simple sight.
"-Mom, they were bullying her, ok? They were saying bad things to her and I wasn't going to let them! Not anymore!".
Jay was about to say something, when Kim interrupted without taking her eyes off Makayla.
"-Bullying? Who was bullying her?"
-"Some shitheads from school" -Sophia said right away.
-"Language!" Jay, Hailey and Will said unison, thought their first instinct was to laught.
Everyone at the bar was paying attention to the scene and they couldn't help to laugh a bit. Even Hank Voight smirked a little bit at the girl's reaction. That's when Sophia realized that this wasn't a private conversation.
"-Sorry", she muttered. "Look, I was trying to...protect her..."
-"At least she didn't hit anybody this time" -Mak said in a funny tone. She was feeling better now, surrounded by her loved ones.
-"Yes, because I happened to appear before she did something ~stupid". -Will completed Makayla's tought, which made her laugh.
-"That happened once and it was an accident. I thought we were over it?"
Jay rolled his eyes at her daughter's argument. "Ok. Let's leave this in here for now. We should go back to the party". -He said realizing the attention they were drawing.
-"Yeah, we should go back" Adam reafirmed, looking around.
Hailey hugged her daughter's shoulder and kissed her head, she couldn't deny she was proud of her daughter's grit.
Everyone went back to their seats. When Sophia passed by Severide, he strocked her head as a symbol of affection. He and Stella were very fond of her. Later that day, when Stella arrived from her shift, Kelly told her what happened with the girls and she bursted into laughs: "That girl has been a sassy pants since she was in diappers".
The party continued normally. Everybody seemed happy, having fun. Makayla was dancing and sharing laughts, as if nothing had happened before. Kim and Adam where isolated on a table having a serius conversation, those bully boys were not going to have it easy.
Sophia was seating between her parents at the same table as Will, Severaid and Stella. On the next table Voight, Platt and Mouch were part of the same conversation. Sophia told them how the boys were harrassing Makayla and how she felt the urge to defend her to make it stop. Hank suggested she had the gut to be a cop or maybe even a lawyer, Jay discarded both ideas. Trudy finished the conversation on the matter by saying "You've always been my favorite Halstead".
-"I'm a little bit hungry. Can I go get some pizza?"
-"Sure. Go get a slice and bring some more to me too. I can descount the favor from your new debt to the swearing jar" - Jay said teasing his daughter and then stood up to let her out. Sophia just rolled her eyes. He gave her a mocking smile.
Kim approached to the table in that exact moment, looking for Sophia.
-"Hey, Soph. I just wanted to thank you...I know this is not the first time that you stand for Mack like this, she has told us, so... just thank you. You've been a lot of help for her".
Sophia shrugged in shyness "She's my best friend", she stated reffering that the obvios thing to do was to stand for her friend, sister.
Hailey and Jay had their eyes on their daughter, they couldn't stop looking at her with a proud smile on their faces. The atmosphere was calm and full of love, when Will interrupted the feeling: "You still have to pay the swearing jar, you won't get rid of it".
Sophia abruptly pointed to Makayla and said as a joke: "You owe me like 10 dollars for this".
-"Are you kidding me?" -Jay stared- "You owe the jar like 50 dollars, kiddo".
-"Are you serius!?"
-"Yeah, I'm with your dad in this" -Hailey continued -"Those were really bad prohibited words, sweetie".
-"Yeah, and I only used them for a good reason".
-"Bad words are bad words, and you must follow the swearing jar law". Her father said raising an eyebrow and proceeded to drink from his beer.
Sophia crossed her arms and continued the funny argument "Really? How many criminals have you handcuff by talking to them politely?"
-"She's got a good point" -Trudy said.
-"I'm with her at this" -Voight followed.
They all laught at the silly debate. Those around who listened to the conversation shared some giggles, also because the family dynamic was adorable.
-"All right" -Hailey stood up- "If mom doesn't get the pizza, you two are going to starve, so excuse me".
Father and daughter sat down again, Jay hugging her by the shoulder "I love you, kiddo. I love you so much. You're still paying, though".
Sylvie approach to the table with a bright smile: "That won't be a problem. We all saw what you did, so Violet, Blake, Ritter and I collected some cash for you. Here you have".
-"Geez, thanks!"
-"Pay the jar, and don't you dare to curse ever again, or you'll leave us broke". -Violet yelled from her spot, next to Blake.
-"Straight to the jar" Severaid and Stella threatened.
Hailey came back to the table giving one slice of pizza to her daughter and another one for Jay: "This girl and her mouth...she's going to make us rich, I tell you".

~
There’s no Halstead family dinner that’s uneventful and that includes tonight. Everyone’s here at dad’s home for our weekly dinner. Will was the one who insisted on having dinners like this to spend time together after dad’s narrow escape from death in the apartment fire (and to watch dad’s diet once in a while, not that Will would admit that).
Dad’s seated at one end of the table and Will at the other end while Jay and Hailey sat at one side of the table and Alina and I sat at the other side of the table. Alina is my niece, Jay’s and Hailey’s daughter, who’s turning 8 years old in a few months.
Our plates were all loaded up with food that Will and I cooked since we’re in-charge of dinner tonight.
“The mashed potatoes are so good! I’m guessing Evie cooked it?” Jay said, in between mouthfuls of mashed potatoes. I laughed, “That’s right, big brother, and it’s mom’s recipe so can’t go wrong.”
There’s a pause of silence after I mentioned mom but that’s normal, we all miss her. Trying to cheer the moment, Hailey complimented the pasta that everybody knew Will made because it was his go-to dish to cook (and his most famous in the family). Dinner resumed and everyone made small talks with each other.
“I want to eat bread with nutella,” whined Alina and I glanced over to see that her dinner was already half-eaten. “Go and take the bread and nutella from the kitchen,” I instructed and Alina smiled cheerfully, skipping to the kitchen and back to the dining table with said items.
I helped Alina to spread the nutella on the bread and continued eating my dinner. Not even 5 minutes later, Alina called out to me, “I want more,” so I said, “You can do it yourself, Alina”. I pushed the bread and nutella to her. I was about to continue eating when dad voiced out, “Why can’t you just do it for her? She wants to eat it.”
Before I could even answer, he continued, “Sometimes, I think that you don’t like Alina. The way you treat her at times is just uncalled for.” I looked at dad, was he being serious? Was he really going to talk about this during dinner? Granted I’m not the kind of aunt who’s lovey dovey with their niece but that doesn’t mean I don’t love her. I’m rough with her because she’s like my younger sister who can tolerate and even return that treatment to me. It was like your typical sister siblings behaviour. Regardless, it was a mutual agreement that we don’t upset each other while eating and dad being dad, went straight to break it.
“Dad, Evie’s in the middle of eating, she hasn’t eaten since lunch and was busy the whole evening, besides, Alina’s old enough to spread the nutella on her own.” I heard Will saying. I felt myself shut down, which usually happens when I’m upset.
“Yeah dad, Alina can do it herself, don’t be mad,” Hailey started before turning to me and apologised, “Sorry Evie”. I shook my head and smiled (more like grimaced) at her, whispering a short “it’s okay”. Then, before Alina could reach the bread, I took it and made one for her. My eyes got teary and I knew if I talked I’d cry so I whispered to her, asking if she wanted more. Alina nodded so I made another piece for her.
I went silent the entire dinner. Having lost appetite after what happened, I ate slowly and ended up picking half of what’s left on my plate. I felt Will nudging my leg from under the table and I looked up to see the concern in his eyes. I smiled and continued picking at my food.
One by one, everybody finished their dinner and I carried my own plate together with what’s left on the dining table to the kitchen. Tonight, it was also mine and Will’s turn to clear the dishes and clean the kitchen. So while the two of us were in the kitchen, the rest were in the living room watching tv.
“I’m sorry about dad. He shouldn’t have said that, especially when we’re eating.” Will said, starting what he hoped to be a conversation that I honestly was not in the mood for. I shrugged and replied, “Whatever, not the first time and i’m sure it’s not gonna be the last. Let’s just clear all these so we can go home.” My tone giving Will no room to retort or continue the conversation. So we cleaned in silence and soon dad’s kitchen was back to its original state, clean and tidy.
‘Hey dad, I’m gonna go home first. See ya around,” I didn’t bother to wait for any replies before heading out the front door.
“Evie!” I heard Jay called out and stopped. I felt Jay approaching before he entered my line of sight. “I want to apologise for dinner, about Alina and Dad. I know you love my daughter, no doubt about that. It’s not fair for dad to say that to you, after what you’ve done for Alina ever since she was a baby. I’m not excusing him but it’s not like you don’t know him, right. Please don’t let this be our last family dinner.” Jay said.
I scoffed because yeah, I know what dad is like, but I thought he could’ve at least spared my dignity over dinner. “Don’t worry big brother, I’m not gonna disappear just because of tonight. I’ve faced worst than this, and I’m sorry too about Alina, I could’ve just prepared more than one piece of bread and no drama would occur. It's my fault too.”
Jay laughed and shook his head, “Don’t blame yourself, we’re Halstead, what’s life without drama,” he paused, then continued, “Okay, not gonna keep you here any longer than you’d want, so see ya around kiddo, and wait for Will, you live with him,” Jay ruffled my hair and went back in. Seconds after, Will was rushing out of the house.
“You’re so impatient, lil sis, left me high and dry in there to explain to dad why we’re rushing back home,” I heard Will and rolled my eyes. As Will turned the car engine on, he looked at me and said, “Dad said he’s sorry for what he said just now,”
I nodded. I looked at the house dad stayed and thought about the people inside and knew that I wouldn’t change this family for anything, even with the baggage it comes with.
“Okay.”

Pairing: Hailey Upton x Single Father! Former FBI profiler! OC! Kristoff "Kris" Aller
Summary: here
Author's note: these are just some ideas I gathered until I can't come up with the first chapter. I hope you like it
First Stake-out
“You know, you can ask me anything” He seemed comfortable in the passenger’s seat, his voice was serene and low. The night was perfectly still, his slow-moving chest and words being the only proof of life in the whole block. Unlike her, he felt easy, and his breathing was silent and light. His gaze was on the streets, focused but unpreoccupied. Hailey, on the other hand, froze for a second, and her breathing stopped when he suddenly spoke. “It’s easier than following me around, you know.”
She quickly turned to him, and their eyes finally met. Her widened look found his cool expression.
“Why did you do it?”
"I'm uncomfortable with this partnership" Hailey admitted with a sharp voice
"This isn't a partnership." He replied almost immediately. "I'm here for a case. Only one. Then you don't get to see me again."
Hailey sustained their shared gaze — she analyzed his features as he grew unsletted before her light blue eyes.
"I don't think you mean that. Any of it." She stated. " It's useless to ask you anything if you're going to answer with lies."
Kris snorted. "Are you serious?"
"Everything about you seems fake." She argued back "So, yes, I'm serious."
"Hmm." His eyes were burnings hers; his annoyance was clear "Why is that?"
"You have a juvenile record, but almost none reports from the police academy. Several promotions, only compliments, even Platt likes you...On paper, you're a perfect cop, but—"
"I turned it all down." His semblance softened; he shook his head slowly as if her suspicions were perfectly reasonable. "Do you wish to know why?"
For a second, Hailey saw his eyes water, and she was ready to say 'yes' — but Kris turned his face away in reflex. "Someone's here." He whispered, now analyzing the empty streets.
They were not alone.
Context
• At first, Hailey didn't like the idea of Kris becoming her new partner; Technically, he wasn't even suppose to know about the case. For some reason, however, Voight trusted Kris — yet, it didn't mean Hailey would trust him
• "C.I Bishop" that's what Ruzek called him. No long after, Hailey figured out why he had this title: during his patrol days, Kris assigned more C.Is and got confessions for many cases. Suspects would talk to him as if he was a priest in the confessional. No wonder he was selected for the first team of the Special Investigations Unit. Few years later, FBI itself selected him and took him to N.Y
• Voight and Platt treated him with respect and warmth; it was unusual to see Trudy being chatty and asking about his daughters nearly every time Kris passed by; Voight would do the same thing, and worse: many times, he would take Kris to his office for some sort of secretive conversation. Hailey could only watch them
• Adam was willing to be his partner; Torres was making up theories Kris very often agreed with; Voight trusted him completely — and it was clear that Kris wasn't excited about getting a desk for himself. But the Sargent teamed him up with Hailey, and the man occupied Jay's former table with discomfort. They both had to admit, it was awkward
Partnership
• There was something off about him, Hailey could tell. No one could possibly be so balanced, light headed and calm as Kris . No true profiler or police officer could be so easy going while watching and analyzing the most horrible scenes she has ever seen. He looked like a pshyco, staring at the crime scenes and victims with a totally blank face. Another odd thing: he didn't come up with any theories on the first days, even though this was his only job
• He looked, sounded, and behaved like a lie, a fraud. And this case was too important for him to mess everything up. Hailey felt she had no other option: she started to investigate him
• It didn't take long until she figured out: his wife suspiciously passed away four years ago; he left FBI for unknown reasons; he has the guardianship of two girls: Amber, 6, his daughter, and Tessa, 14, his niece. She could find nothing about Tessa's mother. He had brilliant ratings and few complaints. On the paper, he was one of the best police officers Hailey has ever known — who suddenly gave up everything to work at a rehab center. He was either an angel or a demon running from his past
• Another problem: he had a juvenile reccord, which required autorization to be accesed. He came to Chicago when he was 17, and got in trouble just a few days after arriving. The only thing Hailey could discover: Voight took care of his case
A bit more about the plot:
"I have a clue." He spoke out of the sudden as soon as the shift began. His eyes shone with an unsettling energy. "A theory, more precisely." He walked over to the board. "The animal-based accelerator, the abandoned factories and now companies. It's evolving, growing like a story-line." The whole unit looked at Kris with confusion. "I looked up the first arsons again. All the buildings once were public places, hospitals, secretariats, stations and so on." They asked how the companies buildings would fit into that, and he went on "They don't aim at the people, but at what the place symbols. At 3 a.m, they go to old community centers, lock whoever is in up, and set fires to it." Silence again. "Mission-oriented type of serial killers. I'm just missing their manifest." "Why you keep saying them?" The team asked. "It's a group. Probably white, young men, trying to make a statement for the whole town to see." Adam, Kim and Kevin glanced at each other, all of them confused and surprised. Voight, Torres and Upton stared straight at Kris. "I made up a list of possible next targets. They might act tomorrow." Then, without questioning, Voight said "So let's get ready."

SERIES MASTERLIST || JAY HALSTEAD MASTERLIST
Previous Chapter || Next Chapter
Tumblr media
You needn’t have worried about Chloe. By the time the four of you had left the bakery, Chloe was totally warmed up with Will and it only took an ice cream at the nearby cafe for her to be best friends with Jay.
You glanced back at where Jay was sitting with Chloe, before you handed your credit card over for the extra drinks.
“This is why you don’t do the girl’s night thing, huh?” Will asked casually.
You turned back to him and smiled, nodding. “Yeah, I try not to overwork the babysitter.” You paused. “You know you guys didn’t have to do this.”
“What?” Will asked absentmindedly as the both of you waited for drinks.
You angled your head towards Chloe. “To hang out with us. She likes the both of you, but you don’t have to…”
“Y/N.” Will stopped you. “Please, Chloe’s way better company than Jay. For me, at least.”
You laughed and Will continued. “We’re happy to be here. And you know, if you need anything, you can always come to me. Or Jay.”
“You guys are really brothers.” You commented, as Will picked up the tray.
“What?” He asked and you shook your head.
“Nothing.”
Tumblr media
Things were going as well as they could be. Chloe was doing well, considering the run-in with her father and his new girlfriend, but she might have been distracted with the Halstead brothers, since she wouldn’t stop asking questions.
“So are they like your best friends? Like me and Ashley? Why isn’t Jay a doctor with you? Why doesn’t Jay have red hair too?” And finally the most important question of all, “Can they come to play?”
You’d answered her questions with barely hidden amusement, but it had also got you thinking about the changes you were implementing in her world and yours. It had been a while since you’d felt like you had friends . You’d been a little worried about her attachment to Jay and Will after one afternoon, but Chloe had shown more of her own cheerful and talkative personality in that one afternoon than she had in the four months since you’d separated from her father.
You also knew that this could be something good for the both of you, so you hadn’t resisted the idea as much as you thought. In fact, despite feeling a little anxious, you felt pretty good.
The only thing was you hadn’t had the opportunity to actually tell Connor, Maggie, or any of your other Med friends about Chloe. It felt a little weird, like you’d missed the timing to tell them and bringing it up randomly was too weird, but you didn’t want them to think you were blowing them off either.
“Dr Y/L/N, you’re going to Treatment 4.” Maggie called, handing you an iPad.
“Thanks, Maggie.” You called back, turning to head towards the room.
You headed towards Treatment 4, pumping a generous amount of handrub onto your palm as you walked in. “Hi, I’m Dr Y/L/N…” You trailed off as you saw who was sitting on the bed.
“Jay? What…”
Jay looked semi-annoyed to be here, like he’d been forced here.
“I told them I was fine, it’s just a graze.” Jay said, his voice exasperated, as he cast a look at his partner, who introduced herself as Hailey Upton.
She looked up and smiled. “Almost had to handcuff him to get him here.”
You let out a small quiet laugh before you headed to Jay and peered at his arm. “It doesn’t look too deep, but I still want to do a scan to make sure it didn’t hit anything while it was tearing through the side of your arm, alright?”
Jay gave you a look and you smiled, shrugging.
The x-ray came out looking good and you nodded at him. “It did go in deeper than a graze, so I’ll need to stitch this up I think.” You looked up. “Does Will know you’re here?”
Jay didn’t have time to answer, interrupted by April. “Dr Halstead needs you.”
You frowned. “Now?”
“He said it’s urgent. It’s a four year old.” April said, shrugging.
You glanced at Jay who nodded. “Not gonna die.”
You rolled your eyes. “I’ll be right back. April, can you…”
April nodded. She’d been on the job long enough to not need specific instructions. Besides, it wasn’t like Will or April to pull you out of another patient’s treatment room unless it was urgent or serious. “He’s in 5.”
You headed out, straight for Treatment 5, freezing as you ducked around the curtain.
“Mom!”
It was your four year old. Your four year old with a huge gash on her forehead.
"Chloe?” You tried to pull back but you couldn’t stop the anxiety mixing in with your voice as you looked at your kid that was sitting in the hospital bed.
“Sorry, I wasn’t sure if you wanted people to know.” Will said from where he was crouched next to Chloe’s bed.
“Thanks, Will.” You nodded at Will before you turned towards Kate. “What happened?”
“Y/N, I’m so sorry. We were at the park, I took my eyes off for like two seconds to get her bottle and she tripped…” Kate sputtered, and you could tell she was really nervous.
“Kate, Kate, woah. It’s okay, kids get hurt, it happens, alright?” You smiled at Chloe who smiled back at you, before you glanced at Will.
Will nodded. “Nothing looks out of the ordinary, but she’ll probably need a few stitches?”
You turned to peer back at her wound and nodded. “Yeah, battle scars.” You responded, smiling at your daughter.
“I don’t wanna.” Chloe answered, pressing her lips together like she did when she was being stubborn. “Billy had stitches last time and he said it hurt.”
You glanced at Will who gave you a small smile. “Yeah, she hasn’t let me get anywhere near her after I disinfected the wound.”
You sighed. When Chloe was stubborn, she was really stubborn.
“I’ll take care of this. Your brother’s in four.” You told Will. Now that you knew the patient was your daughter, you weren’t sure you’d make it back to patch Jay up.
“What?” Will asked, getting up.
You turned towards him. “He’s fine, but I hadn’t gotten around to stitching him up.”
“I’ll be right back.” Will told you and you nodded, turning back towards your daughter. Sometimes, Chloe was way too smart for her own good.
You were in the midst of trying another approach when the door opened again.
“Jay!” Your daughter’s excited voice might have been picked up by the whole hospital.
“Hey, sport, I heard you’re hurt too.” Jay said, flashing you a smile before he headed towards Chloe.
Chloe nodded.
“So listen, I’m hurt too and I need your mum’s help. But I know it’s scary, so how about we do it together?” Jay asked, perching himself by the side of Chloe’s bed.
Chloe glanced at you and then back at Jay. “Together?”
Jay smiled, not even taking his eyes off Chloe. “Yeah, together. You know like we’ll have the same stitches, like stitch buddies!”
You pressed your lips together to stop yourself from laughing. Jay was really pulling this out of his ass for your four year old.
“Like when I have the same stickers as Ashley so we’re best friends?” Chloe asked again, glancing at you for confirmation. You just nodded encouragingly at her, glancing at Will who nodded.
“Okay! Then will we be best friends too?” Chloe asked.
You watched her, seeing a light in her eyes that you hadn’t seen in a while. You couldn’t interfere even if you wanted to, as Jay told her that of course he would be her best friend. Jay really had a way with her.
“Alright, sweetheart, Will is gonna do it for you alright? And Mom will be right over here doing Jay’s.” You told her, reaching over to stroke her hair and smiling. “You’re gonna be a brave girl?”
Chloe nodded, glancing over at Jay who shot her a smile.
You watched as Will spoke to Chloe and worked on her before you tore your eyes away and met Jay’s green ones again. “Sorry.” You busied yourself with cleaning his wound again and looked up. “And thanks.”
Jay flinched as you took the needle and you glanced at him. “Did you flinch before the bullet flew at you?” You asked, genuinely curious, only lowering your voice at the word bullet.
You heard Will give a chortle. “Please. As far as Jay is concerned, there is nothing worse than needles.”
“Shu…” Jay stopped himself just in time, his eyes flicking over to Chloe, who made a face at the word needle.
It was a strange feeling being in there with Chloe, Will and Jay, and Maggie and April moving in and out as they assisted you and Will respectively. Other than the fact that you were stitching up Jay’s arm and that your daughter had been hurt, you could almost forget you guys were still in Med.
“Take it easy for the next week. Once you get your stitches out, you can go be a hero again.” You told Jay, smiling.
“Alright, kiddo.” Jay turned to Chloe. “I have to go back to work. But you were even braver than me today.”
Chloe’s eyes almost sparkled. “You think so?”
You smiled, as everyone took turns assuring Chloe that she was braver, Jay put his jacket back on. “Thanks.”
You shook your head. “I should thank you. You didn’t have to do that.”
“I can’t take credit for the idea. But I was happy to. She’s a great kid.” Jay smiled.
You glanced at Chloe. “Yeah, she is.”
You’d seen Jay off, reminding him to come back next week, which had only prompted him to remind you that he was Will’s brother. After he was gone, you went back to check on Chloe who’d smiled at you, and it was the best opportunity to introduce her to Maggie, April and Connor who had walked in while Chloe was chattering about ‘Mom’.
“Sorry, I meant to find a time to tell you but it just kind of…” You told them, after sending Chloe back off with Kate, assuring her you’d be home as soon as you could.
Maggie shook her head. “Hey, we get it. But if you ever need help, anything…”
You nodded. “Thanks, guys.”

Daughter Figure.
___________________
Al Olinsky x Reader
Requested by: Anon
#32 with Al Olinsky, reader is his partner, but he sees her as a daughter.
#32. "I know I don't say this often, nor do I show it, but I love you." ... "I know."
Warning: fluff, hurt Y/N
___________________
“Alright, Y/N, can you hear me?”
“Loud and clear.” You murmured, smiling at the tall man you just passed.
The team was currently in undercover mode to try and capture one of the bad guys that’s been wanted list for longest time. You were inside the bar that was suspected to get one of suspects, Kevin was not far away acting like the bodyguard/bouncer, while Adam and Al were working as bar tenders.
“How are you feeling?”
You continued making your way past everyone, looking for the man that name was given up. “Feeling a bit better, everyone really had me scared when y’all suggested that I’d wear a short dress.” You teased lightly, still maneuvering past the crowds.
You heard Al snort, which had you fighting to not smile. Pretty soon you heard Adam talk. “I was not gonna let Y/N go out like that, can you imagine me blowing our cover because I had to keep off the men off of her?”
This time you snorted and took a small sip of your drink. “Overprotective much.” You replied, and just as you felt like the rest of them team was going to weigh in, you finally found the person you were looking for. “Found him, I’m going to approach him, now.”
The line went a bit silent and you heard Voight telling you to be careful, fluffing up hair and pulling your top up, you started to make your way towards the suspect who was sitting in the V.I.P section. Finally, you decided to act drunk, so you stumbled past them, accidentally tripped and spilled your drink on his lap, letting out a loud gasp you turned to the man.
“Oh my god, I’m sooo rry.” You slurred, swaying a bit. The man you guy you spilled your drink on stood up and gave you a small smile.
“No, it’s fine. I don’t mind getting spilled drinks on my lap when it comes from a cute girl like you.”
You let out a drunk giggle. “I betcha you tell every girl that.” you said, leaning against his body now. The man wrapped his arm around your waist, and you began to touch his chest. “Say, why don’t you leave the bar with me, go somewhere else and have a bit of fun.”
The man smiled, and you giggled, following as he lead the both of you out, just where you and the team wanted, glancing back you gave a small signal to the guys and relaxed a bit more, when you noticed Al following to make sure you were going to be alright.
********************
It all happened way to quickly.
It happened way to quickly for Al Olinsky, or anyone for that matter, to comprehend what just had happened. After catching the man last night, Voight took his cage, he confessed where the stash house was, they all suited up and were going to catch everyone else.
But things went sideways pretty fast, Y/N was supposed to be standing behind Jay, her gun up ready to shoot, but when he kicked down the door, a two shots rang out. The door happened to have a small trap that would shoot when knocked open, something that they weren’t told.
Jay had managed to get out the way, but Y/N wasn’t so lucky. As soon as the gun shot, Y/N was hit and everyone watched in horror.
“Y/N!” Al yelled, rushing towards you, and putting pressure on your wounds, on your lower abdomen, and the other on your shoulder. “You’re going to be okay, sweetheart. Stay with me, Y/N, just stay with me.”
Hank was growling commands at everyone, while he kneeled on your other side, Kim was paging the ambo, the rest of the team left to investigate, and try to find whatever evidence they can use to find the bad guy.
You were gasping for a bit of air, and everything seemed to be muffled all around. Al was besides you, ripping off your vest. “Where’s the ambo!” he yelled, Kim turned to him.
“They’re on their way, they’re three minutes out.” She stammered.
Al just nodded and continued to help you, while Hank took off his jacket and made into a pillow to levitate your head. “She’s losing a lot of blood.” He muttered to Al, who just clenched his empty fist and looked around.
Kim soon joined and took over in keeping your shoulder pressured, when finally, the ambo arrived. Sylvie and Gabby both got off and rushed over. “What happened?” Gabby ordered.
“Trap, the door had a gun ready to fire when he knocked it down, it hit Y/N on the lower abdomen and her shoulder.” Olinsky explained. The paramedics both nodded and quickly go to work, putting the oxygen mask, and everything.
“Syvlie call Med, tell them we’re on our way with Y/N.” Gabby ordered.
Hank pulled out his phone. “Don’t, I got it, you girls just rush to Med. Kim, Olinsky ride with them.” He commanded and the both nodded, they helped the girls and took off, Al rode back with Gabby, while Kim rode up in front with Sylvie.
**********************
By the time the team arrived at Med, Kim was on the chair, looking blankly ahead, while Olinsky was pacing. Hank entered the small waiting room first. “Anything?”
Kim looked up and shook her head. “All the doctors are busy, and we haven’t heard anything on her since we arrived, we’ve tried asking Maggie, but she’s currently busy trying to place whatever victims they’re bringing from the other hospital.”
Hank nodded, and Adam made his way over, and sat next to Kim, while the rest started to sit down, a few minutes later, Trudy entered the room, heading straight towards Hank and Olinsky. They stayed there for the next few hours, some heading down to get coffee. It was finally night time, and Will along with some other friends joined them, waiting, when Connor finally stepped out.
Voight and Olinsky stood up. “How is she doc?”
Connor sighed. “It was rough, we almost lost her, but she’s a fighter and hanged on, but she’s going to be alright, she will have to sit out from her job to recover.”
Everyone let out a breath of relief, and Al nodded. “Can we go see her?” he asked. Connor nodded.
“Yes, but one at a time for now, she’s just waking up and we don’t want to overwhelm her.” Connor replied, Hank shook his hand, and Connor told them all Y/N’s room number, assuring them after another hour, they can all go in her room and visit her.
Hank turned to Olinsky and patted his back “You can go first, we can all wait another hour.” He said, Al looked at him and nodded and made his way towards Y/N’s room, he knocked the door, before opening it.
Entering the room, he saw Y/N laying there still asleep, he slowly made his way inside, closing the door behind him, and made his way towards the empty chair recliner that was there. He scooted the chair closer to the bed, and he slipped his hand into yours and held it, he brought up to his forehead and then pressed a light small kiss.
Y/N began to stir, and Al stood up. “Y/N?”
You let out a small whine and felt your body ache all over. You could hear someone calling your name, so slowly you opened your eyes, and saw Al standing there. “Al?” you called out weakly.
Al smiled softly at you. “Hey, Y/N.”
You let out a small cough and Al grabbed the glass of water that was there and helped you drink it. “What happened?”
“Gave us quite a scare, the mission went wrong, it was a set up and when Jay kicked open the door, a gun was set up to shoot, and you got hit twice.”
“That explains why my whole body feels heavy and it aches”
Al sat back down and stared at you. "I know I don't say this often, nor do I show it, but I love you."
You looked up at and stared at him, after a minute you gave him a small smile. "I know."
Al snorted. “I like that reference.” Giggling you smiled and scooted a bit closer to him. “You know I see you as my daughter figure.”
“Daughter figure?”
“Yeah, you know how you often say that you seem me as you father figure, well I see you as my daughter figure.”
You blushed a bit and nodded. “Okay, does that mean that I can call you dad at times.” You lightly teased, wincing. Al smiled and nodded.
“Sure thing, kiddo.”

Hostage | Part 1
Summary: Y/N is a Firefighter at Firehouse 51, they get taken hostage inside the Firehouse with Casey's niece, Violet.
Fandom: Chicago Fire / Chicago PD / Chicago Med
Characters: Reader x Kelly Severide, Firehouse 51, Chicago Med, Jay Halstead, Hailey Upton
Warnings: Swearing, violence, injury
Word Count: 4575
It’s a crisp November morning in Chicago, Engine 51 is parked out front ready for the second shift. Plumes of water vapour dance in the sky as the surrounding neighbourhood tries to stay warm.
Squad 3, Truck 81, and Ambulance 61 are tucked away from the chill inside the garage, items for breakfast are waiting and ready to be cooked, members of Firehouse 51 sit intently listening to Chief’s briefing for the day. You’re not one to shirk focus when listening to the Chief, but Kelly’s thumb rubbing the back of your hand as you sit next to him is a comforting and welcome distraction.
You had been struggling to catch a good night’s rest lately, following a particularly difficult call involving two sisters who had got themselves trapped in the inferno of their burning bridal shop; it was a family business, only survived by their father and their uncle. You couldn’t get to them in time, despite a most relentless effort, the blaze had reached flashover point, Chief wasn’t giving you a second longer; Casey and Stella had been given the go ahead to pull your ass out of there.
The memory of the two women being in your reach but not close enough had haunted you, their burnt bodies were a jarring sight, no matter how many times you had seen such a scenario. You had spoken to the Chaplain about your grief and you were getting better at dealing with it, but the nightmares were still lingering.
Accompanying your grief was a nagging feeling that something wasn’t quite right with the whole situation, OFI had been given the case report to make their own determination; as much as it looked like a simple accident, you couldn’t shake the feeling there was more to it. You knew grief came in all shapes and forms, but those brothers didn’t seem too phased by the death of their daughters and nieces respectively. Kelly’s hand squeezes yours gently, pulling you out of your reverie, you glance at him with a soft smile. You don’t know how you got so lucky to have him in your life, but you were always counting such a blessing. He returns the smile with a fondness, eyes twinkling as he turns back to focus on Chief, warm hand still clasped with yours.
“Oh, one more thing… There will be a service check on the washer and dryer this afternoon, so please make sure you’ve got enough uniform before that is done, or speak to Connie if you think there’s gonna be a problem… and I think that’s everything, let’s have a good one, Fifty-One. Dismissed.”
With a nod from Chief Boden everyone begins to arise from their seats.
Kelly releases your hand gently, standing up as he rubs your back, “Okay?” He asks, gaze focused on you with concern. “I’m good, just got a bit lost there for a second… but I’m back, all good.” You’re being genuine when you say those words, it’s no secret that it’s been hard on you, but you are definitely getting there and you know you’ll be fine with Kelly and the rest of 51 by your side.
The briefing room files out to go about their business before their next call, Kelly kisses your cheek as he parts to go talk to Squad about some planned drills, you caress his forearm as he parts from you, loving him so much. You’d be okay, you knew it.
… It takes a small jog to catch up with Matt who’s about to head off to squeeze in a washing load before the machines are out of action. “Captain, are we still on for this morning? I’m all set to show Violet the ropes with Stella and Sylvie.” Matt nods with a smile, “We are, Violet texted me, she’s on her way with her mom. ETA 10 minutes or so. Thanks again for doing this, Y/N. I really appreciate it, and I know Violet does too.” “It’s no problem, boss. Happy to help out a future firefighter.” You grin, excited that Stella’s Girls On Fire initiative had become so popular with the local girls in your ward; Violet in particular was eager to come to a working Firehouse and see how things were run.
It only made sense that it would be her Uncle Matt’s firehouse; Stella of course was more than thrilled to offer up a day with 51, and Brett had offered her services to demonstrate the medical aid side of things. “You’ll make a good Academy Instructor yet, Y/N.” Matt pats you on the shoulder,
“I’ll catch up with you later, I’ve got some laundry and paperwork that needs clearing up.” “Of course, Captain, see you in a bit.”
Matt’s kindness and belief in your abilities as a member of Truck had done wonders for your confidence lately, he was a firm but encouraging influence. It was a no brainer why he was such an adored captain.
You’re laying out some ladders, dummies and ropes ready for various activities as you hear a chipper voice from the other side of the apparatus floor, “Y/N!” Violet’s waving off her mom as she turns to you with an excited grin, she greets Kelly and the rest of Squad as she walks past their drill area with her duffle. “Hey you, all good to go?” Violet nods with a cheeky salute which makes you chuckle, “Brilliant, Junior Candidate, we’ll be getting started shortly, Stella’s just wrapping some things up with Herrmann, and your Uncle Matt will be out in a bit too… in the meantime why don’t we set your stuff down and get you familiarised with some equipment?” “Sounds great, I’m so excited. Thanks, Y/N. You and Stella are the best.”
You’re in the middle of showing Violet how to effectively wrap a rescue rope around a civilian dummy when you catch sight of two people approaching, a lingering glance makes your stomach churn as you realise who it is. The brothers from that fire. They instinctively activated your fight response, but before you could get a word out your worst fears were confirmed. Guns were produced from the back of their jeans, aimed right at you and Violet - the younger girl letting out a small yelp as you moved immediately to shield her.
You had been hidden from the others by one of the trucks, nobody else had seen the two men approach. Violet’s yelp catches the attention of Kelly, Capp, Joe and Tony who are just in earshot but it all happens so fast. The two intruders yank you and Violet front and centre into Squad’s eyeline, each of them standing with fists clenched, wanting desperately to approach and disarm, pushed back by the threat of guns aimed right at them. Kelly’s stomach drops, he knows you’re brave and tough, he wouldn’t even bat an eyelid going on a call with you, but this… this was different. He can feel the blood boiling within, knowing immediately that your funny feeling about these men had been correct all along. “Nobody does anything that I don’t tell them to do! Is that clear?!” The older of the two barks, his grip on the back of your neck and in your hair is unbearably tight, and the sight of the other holding onto Violet’s wrists makes you want to spit in their faces and yank her free.
A door opens to the left, your stomach flips in panic, willing nobody else to be dragged into this… It’s Stella. “Alriiight! Let’s get this party started Junior Candi-” Stella’s words die in her throat as she sees the scene before her, her eyes widen as her movement snaps your captor into action; you feel yourself snatched further away from your friends as guns are placed to yours and Violet’s temples. You try to slow your breathing, but you can’t help the trembling that vibrates through your body, feeling so sorry for Violet who has been brought into this. “Get inside. Move! Or I blow their fucking brains out!” The guns are pushed harder into you both, and you close your eyes for a moment, trying to regain composure. Kelly and the rest of the apparatus floor are forced to hustle back into the Firehouse, immediately turning back to look at the situation through the glass panels of the doors.
“Get the Chief, now! And call someone from Intelligence!” Kelly snaps, eyes never leaving yours, which is equal parts reassuring and agonising when all you want to do is be free from this nightmare and in his arms, back to having a normal day. You watch as Stella speaks on the phone, she catches your gaze and tries to smile to comfort you, but you can see the guilt and the terror on her face. You want so badly to reassure her that this can be in no way her fault; she couldn’t have known this would happen. The commotion and Kelly’s yelling finally gets the others to see what the hell is going on, a smattering of gasps and curses break out as the scene plays out before them, everybody recognising the two captors immediately.
“Son of a bitch. These heartless, VILE-.” Herrmann huffs, ready to march through the doors and give them a piece of his mind, shaking his head in utter disbelief, he can’t stand to see you and Violet like this. Mouch stops him in his tracks, squeezing his shoulder, worry written all over his face too but not wanting Christopher to get into a situation that was already in quick escalation.
Casey arrives from the back of the firehouse, his stomach plummeting at the sight he’s greeted with, adrenaline surging through his mind as he watches on, “What is this about? We can help!” Casey yells even though he knows exactly what this is about…
Your words on Casey’s report had pushed for OFI to investigate the Bridal Shop Fire as an arson, your statement had clearly backfired their plan to palm this off as an accident and claim insurance. Casey also had a hunch that the two men had never anticipated that the sisters would go back into the inferno to try and save their livelihood. Somehow these two animals had made it 51’s fault. Casey bit his cheek, wanting to let rip and cuss them out just like Herrmann wanted, but he knew he’d make it worse for you and Violet. “You’re going to learn what it’s like to be helpless as you watch people you love get hurt. And you’re going to watch as it becomes too late to do anything about it!” The words are insincere, their upset over the two dead women is sickeningly fake, the loss of a payout their only true tragedy.
That thought is startlingly interrupted when they see the butt of a gun colliding at full force into you. Agony explodes throughout your face, a sickening crunch in your nose makes you wail, blood instantly pouring from your nose, skin tightening by the second as it begins to swell and bruise, you stagger where you stand, your captor yanking your hair again which sets all of your nerves on edge. You feel your shirt becoming sodden with blood, a rusty iron stench quickly surrounding you. The gang all yell in anger and anguish, Kelly and Casey pounding their fists on the strips of window, Brett and Stella feeling equal parts horrified and pissed off, even Tuesday is barking relentlessly. Violet yells your name in horror, and your instinct to protect her is unwavering,
“It’s okay, honey. We’ll be okay.” Squeezing out a pained smile, trying to ignore the dizziness and nausea that rolls through you.
Violet nods, trying to keep her whimpers to a minimum, not wanting to draw anymore attention to you both. “Shut the fuck up, enough talking! You’re going to fucking do as you’re told until we can make them understand that this bullshit investigation is going to be dropped.”
You’re gasping for air, blood dripping into your mouth which makes you splutter. You fight hard to stay upright, the urge to argue back and plead crosses your mind, but it’s clear they’re not going to listen right now.
You glance in the direction of the doors, watching all of your friends, your family, looking so distraught, wishing this wasn’t happening. __
It had felt like hours since this whole nightmare had begun, but in reality it was minutes.
Capp comes back with an angry and tense Chief who is on his radio to Main, requesting Police assistance immediately, with the added stipulation that Intelligence be informed.
The dispatcher repeats the situation back to the Chief to confirm the situation, and then more terse chatter over the radio to confirm that 51 is removed from service until further notice.
His eyes land on the scene, jaw clenched as he sees you and Violet in the iron grip of the two men. He casts a look of fire and fury at the brothers, moving to give an abrupt knock on the doors to get their attention...
“Hey! This is my Firehouse, and those are our people. You are making a very very big mistake, whatever problem you need solving, it will not be solved like this!” Chief shouts, standing ramrod straight, hands on his hips as usual, authority oozing off him in waves.
But the brothers are on a high of rage and greed, fuelling each other’s aggravated actions.
“Get me someone who will do as they're told!” The second brother barks, yanking Violet by her hair, gun now digging into her stomach, making her squirm and squeal; a slight pang of panic ripples through your gut.
“Hey! Hey! Just take it out on me, she has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with this. You hear me? Leave her be!” You can’t stand to see Matt’s niece so scared and vulnerable, someone so bright and fearless in her everyday life. Your speech is garbled from the thick buildup of saliva and blood in your mouth, but you let your adrenaline carry your voice.
His malice turns towards you, punching you in the ribs. One, two, three times, knocking the air from you as you double over, your whole world seems to fizz into a blur. He growls into your ear, hot and stagnant alcoholic breath making your eyes water, “You like it rough, huh? We can make damn sure it’s you that gets it all, baby! Now shut these fucking garage doors, this is my show!” He spits at you, making you gag as you glare at him... as best you can with a smashed up face.
__
Everyone is vibrating with tension, Matt and Kelly are pacing like caged lions, wishing they could throttle the life out of these two pieces of shit. “I’ll fucking kill them.” Kelly mutters, hands on his head in frustration. “They’re never going to see daylight again after this. Never.” Matt huffs through his nose, Mouch, Herrmann and Joe watching on, feeling helpless.
Words float in your head, “Shut these fucking garage doors!” It takes you a moment to register that you had just been spoken to, long enough that the leader is about to join in on his brother’s beating and hit you again, you hold your hands up in a silent “Wait a second.” Gathering energy to upright yourself and speak. “We-we have to go over here then, that’s where the door panel is.”
You point shakily towards the panel on the other side of the apparatus floor, your legs feel like a newborn fowl’s as you stumble towards the switches, the two monsters keeping their hold on you and Violet as you move.
You’re dragged out of view by the two invaders, waving their guns at any Firehouse members that happened to be outside of the main building when all of this began, forcing them back outside and away. The doors are engaged and begin to slide down, cutting Firehouse 51 off from the outside world, casting an even darker shadow over the day.
“P.D. are 3 minutes out, Halstead and Upton are coming too.” Chief informs the group, squeezing both Kelly and Matt’s shoulders, everyone trying to get a better angle on where the girls have been taken.
Chief Boden exhales, trying to centre his thoughts and do what needs to be done to take command of the situation, he gets the attention of the group... “We have to do our best to stay calm, and make certain this situation can end with no further damage...Brett, Kidd, I want you to let Med know about our situation, and tell them to expect us at some point.” “Yes chief.” The two busy themselves with something they can actually do, gathering up any supplies they might need to treat you and Violet.
Maggie’s face is etched with worry as she reads the alert from Firehouse 51, springing into action to be ready on Med’s end.
“Ethan! I’ll be needing you, so standby. Firehouse 51 has a situation that’s ongoing. Let Connor know there’s potential incoming trauma, we have to be ready for the worst. They’ve got Y/N, Ethan. Matt Casey’s niece too.” “You got it Maggie, I’ll get us prepared… April-!” He moves off with speed to apprise his nurse of the situation and Connor too. Will glances over at Maggie from a computer station, tuned in to what the Charge Nurse had just said... “Maggie, did I hear you right? Y/N? And Casey’s niece?” Maggie touches Will’s arm gently, “Yeah… P.D are on their way over there, so’s Jay and Hailey… They’ve got the best going to help them, Will. We’ll be ready here too.”
Will nods, eyes narrowed in concern for you and Violet, squeezing Maggie’s shoulder in appreciation for the reassurance.
“Thanks, Mags.”
You had made good friends at Med, including Will. Between him and meeting Will’s brother, and his friends, in the process, you had formed a small community around you that you cherished so deeply - and they cherished you in return.
You zone out as the doors hit the floor and stop moving, you’re starting to flag on energy, the pain is radiating through you, breathing is a struggle with every sharp stab in your ribs, panting breaths as your nose is beyond being useful. Violet’s tears are silent as they push you both back towards the spot near Squad’s table, making sure that nobody gets the idea that they can try some sort of rescue. The sight of you is a sad one as your friends watch you fight to stay conscious. “It’s gonna be alright, sweetheart. We’re right here, we’ll get you.” Matt calls out to Violet, trying to keep her spirits up and redirect her attention, she can’t stop looking at your fragile and battered body. …
The second brother snarls, “I said-” His words die in his throat, the sound of the sirens are fast approaching, his brother yells out in anger, he points an accusing finger right at Chief with a growl, “You stupid son of a bitch, you were supposed to wait for MY instructions! Calling them was a big mistake, you’re going to live to regret it!” He’s caught in the throes of rage, neither he or his brother had thought much past making a show of kidnapping someone from 51 until the arson case was dropped.
With a venomous roar he fires his gun, the sound is deafening, echoing throughout the garage, vibrating through the doors where everyone stands, they look on in stunned horror… Kelly’s knees feel like jello as he watches you, Matt and Stella holding his arms to keep him steady. The silence is a split second, but it’s piercing, time seems to slow before reality kicks back in with full force. The cries of your name are swimming in your brain as you hit the ground with a sickening smack, blood oozing rapidly from your thigh, soaking your pants, strangled cries of pain escape you… you try and put pressure on it, but it hurts too much, everything hurts too much. You wanted Kelly. Kelly.
Violet scurries forward to hold the wound and apply pressure, leaning all her weight on the wound - like Uncle Matt showed her, squeezing her eyes shut for a moment as you cry out in agony. Matt’s words echo in her ears, she knows that even if it hurts you it’ll save your life. The blood flow slows to a crawl, only ever so slightly seeping through her fingers, nausea circles in her throat but she stays focused, knowing that you need her to be brave. The two brothers are stunned themselves, they weren’t quite sure how they got themselves here, their panic continuing to manifest hysterically…
“I’m warning you now, anybody making a move won’t be making it out alive!” The two men watch you grow weaker by the second, Violet’s covered in your blood, pushing as hard as she can, despite your whimpers of protest, wanting the pain to stop.
The leader of the pair shoves his accomplice to the side to have a stern word, the gunshot was not part of his plan, everything was spiralling way too fast.
… P.D. are pulling into Firehouse 51 as they hear the gunshot, Jay Halstead is already at the glass watching you hit the floor, adrenaline flooding through him, Upton is on the other side of the building, eyes wide at the scene before her - she starts directing other officers into a formation, ready to take down these assholes for good.
Jay's fists are pounding on the garage doors as radios around him light up with chatter of “Shots fired, two hostages, one is a minor, two suspects armed and dangerous! Firefighter down!” Somewhere in your haze of sluggishness you could have sworn you heard Jay’s voice, your good friend Jay Halstead, here to save you. But you couldn’t be sure, everything felt like a dream now, starting to lose sensation of your extremities as Violet kept up her attempts to keep your blood inside you. Herrmann, Mouch, Joe, Capp, Tony, Brett and Stella all move to the side as officers, led by Hailey Upton, pile into the Firehouse’s main building; The Chief stays behind to update the detective on the situation as Kelly and Casey sprint to the other end of the Firehouse and bust through one of the exterior doors, trying to catch Jay up to speed. The two invaders are frazzled by the sudden rush of commotion, turning on each other in an instant. “What are we gonna do, you've messed this all up, you and your stupid whore spawn!” The younger of the two is waving his weapon around, pointing it as his brother now, sweat pouring off of him. His brother is incredulous, taking a swing at his idiot accomplice. “Me? I messed this up? You fucking shot a firefighter, genius!”
… “These knuckleheads are distracted, this is our best chance to wrap up this circus... “ Hailey watches the two brothers tussle, eyeing you and Violet a few metres away. You were eerily still, Violet still steadfastly keeping pressure on you. Upton turns to the waiting members of Firehouse 51, “Be ready, alright? Don’t move until I say we’re clear. Cruz, you think if we cover you you can get those garage doors moving?” “You bet, Detective. Ready when you are.”
He turns back, the conditions are still good for a breach, no more time to lose. [“Jay, you in position?”] [“Good to go, Hailey, we’re ready. Extra Ambos are on standby.”] [“Breach on my count.”]
[“Copy.”] [“1, 2, 3… Breach! Go go go!”] Commotion bursts into the garage, a cacophony of voices fill the air, you’re barely awake but you can recognise Jay and Hailey’s voices instantly. “Chicago P.D. drop your weapons, get on the ground, DO IT NOW!”
“Down! Down on the ground, DO IT!”
The two brothers clatter their guns to the ground, angry gibberish about “Justice” and “What’s theirs” Pushed to the ground as their hands are cuffed behind their backs by officers, the doors slide back up letting light and fresh air back in. You’re tired, so damn tired. You can feel yourself sinking further away when gentle hands are on you, securing your neck in a C-collar, “Hey sweetheart, can you go see Stella and your uncle for me? They’re going to make sure you’re alright. You did amazing Violet, you saved her life.” Violet nods tearfully, turning to Stella and Matt who quickly scoops her into his arms, making sure she’s okay. Violet’s pressure disappears and you’re vaguely aware of it being replaced with an adult’s pressure, gauze packing the wound and being wrapped tight. You can hear Kelly’s voice too, he’s helping Brett. You blink wearily at the vague shapes around you, that familiar warm hand taking yours, stroking again. Instant relief floods through you despite your pain. “K-Kelly... Kel…” You can’t seem to get your words out, sleep is pulling you closer. “Stay with us, baby. It’s over. We’ve got you. You’re incredible, I love you... Just stay awake a little longer, please?” “Y/N, it’s Sylvie...Can you hear me? Just blink if you can.” Brett shine’s a pen light in your eyes, checking for a pupillary response, you blink twice… at least you think you do, that simple act feeling like a shift’s worth of energy in one go. Brett’s assessing your ribs gently to check the extent of the damage, you whimper, everything is so tender, your face is throbbing and your thigh is radiating hot pain throughout your body. “Sorry, I’m so sorry. It’s okay, we’re here. Don’t speak, but try and stay awake for me, okay? I’m going to give you some oxygen and something for the pain, you’re safe.” You can feel Brett finishing assessing your injuries as Kelly, Herrmann and Mouch secure you onto a backboard, as they count and move you you barely react, making everybody’s stomachs drop at just how bad a shape you were in. Kelly looks at Brett, his eyes sad with worry. “She’s lost a lot of blood, we’re going to trauma her to Med. You can come with us if you like. There's a second Ambo waiting for Violet and Matt.” Kelly nods, glancing at Matt who gives him a silent comforting look. “Go. We’ll be right behind you, buddy.”
They’re carrying you to the back of 61, carefully slotting you in and securing you. Herrmann watches Kelly and Brett shut the doors as Stella hops into the driver’s side. He pats the back doors, willing Ambo to fly like a bat out of hell to Med. … The others are left to gather their thoughts and get their things to go to the hospital, Chief rubs a hand over his face, turning to find Jay and Hailey approaching with sympathetic, worried, looks. “Hey Chief, we’re gonna follow you guys to med. I know it’s an awful time, but we’ll need statements from everyone.” “Whatever you need, we know who these guys are, and we’ll all make damn sure to help get them put away where they belong.” The three exchange handshakes and head to their respective cars to get to Med, there was a lot to unpack.

When Your Parents are Detectives, You Gotta Try Harder || Upstead x daughter
*re-posting this because I'm stupid and accidentaly erased my blog 🫠
Also Burzek x daughter and Stellaride x twins
Sophia is Upstead's daughter. // Leslie and Benjamin are Stellaride's twins. //Makayla is Makayla.
Jay, Hailey, Adam, Kim, Severide, Stella, Violet, Gallo, Ritter, Will, Joe, Sylvie, Matt involved.
☆
-"What the hell is that?" Jay said dramatically pointing to his daughter as she entered the kitchen.
-"Sophia Halstead. Human. Nice to meet you". -She had inharited her father's sense of humor.
-"I mean what the hell are you wearing!?" -He asked shocked, not paying attention to his daughter's joke.
-"Oh! This is called a dress. Girls usually use them when the weather is hot outside". -Sophia replied sarcastically. -"It's fresh, you should try it".
-"Yeah, I'm not into it, too short...why isn't it covering your knees?" -Jay crossed his arms in a scolding dad position.
-"Seriously, Jay?" -Hailey raised her eyebrows and gave a look to her husband, while pouring herself a cup of coffee.
-"Well, good morning to you too". Sophia rolled her eyes and sat at the kitchen island to have breakfast, trying to ignore the situation. Anyway, she had foreseen her father's reaction the moment she decided to wear that green dress with small white flowers for the picnic that day. He was, after all, old fashioned, as he used to joke about.
-"You look really pretty, hunny". Hailey smiled, knowing what was going through her daughter's mind.
Sophia never tought she would feel so embarrased. Other than the school uniform, no one had ever seen her wearing a dress or skirt before, not even her parents. To be honest, it wasn't her type of clothing, she preferred jeans and not so tight shirts or blouses, always big boots as shoes. But she wanted to give it a try, she wanted to feel "pretty" and look femenine as the other girls at school.
-"Yeah, I mean that's not in doubt". Jay continued his wife's statement. -"But I find it innapropiate, you can't just go out like that. You are too young, dress' too short, lot of psychos out there. Do the math". And he took a drink from his coffee mug with the "Ranger" insignia.
-"Whoa, ok It's not like I'm going to a rave or something. This reunion it's supposed to be only for friends and family, isn't it? There are not psychos in that group...that we know of at least". Her parents grined at that. -"Besides, I have my platform boots on. They are iron point, I still can kick some asses if I need to".
-"Swearing jar!". -Hayley and Jay said unison, closing their eyes tiredly. This language matter was begining to be a problem and the swearing jar wasn't helping enough.
-"All right, you oppressors of free speech". She said while standing up. -"I'll get the jar". And she dissappeared.
-"Since when does she like wearing dresses? -Jay threw the question into the air. -"I mean, what's next? Make up?"
Hailey stared at Jay with a smirk on her face and he felt deep in his bones how she was reading him, so he avoided eye contact.
-"Is she acting like this because of a boy? Because she does talk a lot about that Severide boy".
-"Jay, you are over reacting" -Hailey laughed. -"They are friends, and for the record, she mostly talks about his twin sister, Leslie. They are both Severide, you might be confusing them".
Hailey leaved her seat and stood next to him: - "This is not even about the dress, is it?".
Jay opened his mouth to say something, but words didn't come out, he was feeling a little bit silly. At the same time, he tried to match his toughts with gestures, but he just ended up doing strange movements with his hands.
-"I don't know what hand gesture to make". They both laughed and he used one hand to grab her waist.
-"I know it is only a stupid dress. I do worry about the psychos, though. -He pointed out. -"But the thing is that when I saw her, reality hit and made me realize that she's not a little girl anymore. Yesterday she was pucking over girly stuff and now...she grew overnight".
-"Yes, I get that feeling, but...". She sighed. "-If it makes you feel better, she's just pretending. I know you're scared of loosing what you have with her, but you won't".
-"What do you mean she's pretending?". -He frowned his eyes.
-"I think she just wants to feel pretty, or what she sees around that is supposed to be pretty. Hard to believe coming from that girl, but she's in a vulnerable position right now".
-"But she is beautiful". -He didn't say it just because he was his father, he meant it with his heart. Hailey's eyes lighted up.
-"She just wants to fit in, you know?"
-"She never cared about that".
-"Mh. She's a thirteen years old girl now and let's say that kids at that age can be really mean".
Jay nodded with a confused expression.
-"She's exploring to find herself, but she's still the impulsive tough girl climbing trees, playing to be a cop, screaming at the TV watching sports with his dad and watching horror films at midnight thinking we don't notice". Both smiled at those ideas. Then Hailey's countenance changed and she look to another way crossing her arms. -"Also the girl who hasn't hesitated in throwing punches to defend her friends from bullies...". They both stared into the abyss remembering that time they got a call from school because she hit a boy who had been bothering Makayla. Blood was involved and stitches were sponsored by uncle Will.
-"Yeah, we still need to work on that". Jay shruged.
There was a small moment of peaceful silence where they just stared at each other.
-"I think I just unlocked the fear of she not wanting to spend an afternoon watching a hockey game with her dad, if you know what I mean...".
-"What are you talkig about? I'm always up to watch hockey with you". Sophia entered the kitchen again, this time carrying the jar on one hand and a pair of skates hanging on the other one. -"Much better if you take me to a live game".
Jay looked at his daughter and laughed when he saw her knees all full of scratches from recent bike falls.
-"What's up with the skates?" Her mom asked.
-"We all are taking our skates or boards to the picnic".
-"Sounds like fun".
-"Yeah. It was Severide's idea".
Jay gave an annoying look to his wife.
-"All right, let's go. We have to pick Will on our way".
Social reunions were usual between the firefighters from Firehouse 51, the Intelligence squad and some doctors from The Med. They had known each other and even worked together for years and now their kids were also good friends. It was Cindy Herrman's plan to organize a reunion in other place than Molly's. Violet had the idea of a picnic and she was not going to allow it to be otherwise, therefore Ritter and Gallo were forced to help with the organization. Silvye also helped with excitement.
It was a warm sunday morning , the weather was perfect to be outside. When Hailey, Jay, Will and Sophia arrived to the park, some of the guests were already there.
-"Hey, Halsteads!" -Kelly yelled and waved inviting them to seat at his picnic table with Stella and their twins: Leslie and Benjamin. Kelly and Jay were good close friends.
Sophia approached to sit next to the twins. Since Leslie was sitting on the edge of the bench, the vacant space was next to Benjamin. Before she could sit, Jay took the box of lukumades Hailey was carrying and gave it to his daughter: "Go put them on the food table". And he took advantage to sit next to the Severide boy. Everything happened so fast and natural that nobody noticed it but Hailey, who was looking at him with a look of disbelief.
On her way to leave the greek donuts her mom had baked, Sophia started to feel insecured. She felt as everybody was staring at her, and part of it was true, because they weren't used to see little Halstead dressed delicately and they found it too cute. Cindy smiled kindly when she saw her and greeted her with a warm hug: -"You look specially pretty today", to which Christopher agreed. She was relieved when Gallo and Ritter approached her talking nonsenses, treating her with normality. She rushed back to the table when she noticed Trudy staring at her with amazement.
When she went back to the table, Adam and Kim had arrived with Makayla.
-"Did you bring it?" -Sophia asked her hurriedly, wanting to get out of there.
-"Yes, it's in my backpack". -And she took a blanket out of it.
-"Let's go". -Leslie said standing up, followed by her brother.
-"We brought a blanket for the picnic, if you don't mind us leaving the table". -Makayla said to Kim.
-"I find that real cute". -Stella intervened. -"You guys even brought a basket. Real definition of a picnic day".
And the kids ran off without waiting for an answer or permission from any adult.
-"Don't get too far!". -Adam yelled at them.
Hailey looked at Jay with a smirk, teasing him because his silly plan to separate Sophia from Benjamin didn't work. He just rolled his eyes.
Time passed, everyone was having a blast, and now that everybody had arrived and lunch time was near, it was time for Kelly to shine.
-"Grilled sausages cooked by Severide". -Cruz said excited. -"You don't get that everyday".
Tired of waiting for the food, the kids took their skates and ran off the place.
-"We're going to skate". -Benjamin informed before disappearing along his friends.
-"Don't get too far!" -Adam yelled once more by inertia, as if it was his responsability to tell them so, this time not even looking at them.
As soon as she put her skates on, Sophia started to brag: -"Hey guys, I bet you can't do a cartwheel in your skates". And she did one as if it was nothig. She didn't even remember she was wearing a dress.
-"Cool". -The twins said at the same time.
-"Easy to do it on ice for me, not in wheels". -Makayla said.
Benjamin was the only one on a skateboard and he started to do some easy flips. Everyone was goofing around, when Sophia dead stopped and stared towards the horizon.
-"What are you looking at?" -Leslie asked intrigued. And the four teenagers looked towards the same place, trying to figure it out.
-"There's no way!" -Ben looked at Sophia and she turned to look at him with a smirk and challenging eyes as saying "Watch me". She was looking at a hill, a very steep hill and she wanted to go down on her skates.
-"It's too dangerous". -Ben tried to stop her, but his words and worry only worked to encourage her more.
It was Sylvie the one that saw how Makayla and Leslie were running back towards the picnic.
-"I think something happened". -She said to Matt and they stood up from their places.
The girls' screams for help started to echo among the adults.
-"They were four when they left and I only count two of them". -Ritter observed.
-"Where's Ben?" -Violet asked.
-"Wherever Sophia is, for sure". -Gallo answered.
And suddenly they visualized the figure of the little Severide boy helping Sophia to walk, carrying her on his side. The girl was full of blood, it looked dramatic at the distance.
Not knowing what was going on, and not understanding a word of what Mak and Leslie were trying o explain, their parents ran to the kids.
Without thinking, Jay took Sophia in his arms and rushed to carry her back to the picnic, which wasn't too far away. She was silently crying in pain. Hailey followed with a worried face. Stella and Kelly patted his boy on the back and walked close to their friends.
Will quickly checked on his nice, helped by Sylvie. She was full of wounds, mostly on her legs and knees, but also on her hands and elbows. Some scratches on her face.
-"Ok, what happened?"
-"She wanted to skate down a hill...a really steep hill". -Benjamin started sounding very concerned. -"I told her not to do it, but I couldn't stop her! She did it really well to tell the truth, but that only worked for her to want to risk it more and...". He swallowed hard.
-"And what!?" -His father forced him.
-"She did it again, ayes blindfolded...backwards".
-"Jesus Christ, Sophia!" -Will said scoldingly.
-"Are you crazy!?" -Her mother was starting to loose her mind. These stories were recurring for her, but they were escalating in madness.
-"It's my foult. I should have tried harder to stop her. I'm so sorry!".
-"It's not your fault". -Jay said in a calming tone. -"The more you had tried to stop her, the worse she would had made it".
-"I helped her up the hill. I tried to carry her so she wouldn't get more hurt, but she didn't let me. She's a stubborn". -Those last words came out with certain recentment.
-"Stop talking shit about me as if I wasn't listening!" -Sophia screamed in pain. There was no space to think about the swearing jar in that moment.
-"Ok". -Will started. -"For a girl so young to have such stupid ideas, you are very luck. There's no need to go to the hospital, your wounds are not that deep, but it will hurt like hell for days".
-"Stupid dress". -She muttered.
-"I brought the first aid kid". -Violet gave it to the doctor.
-"I need to clean your wounds. This is going to hurt tons, Soph".
Hailey took her daughter's hand, knowing what was coming next.
-"All right, everybody go back to you activities". -Sylvie started. -"This is not going to be pretty, let's give her some space".
-"Let's go, Benjie". -Stella said to his son who didn't want to leave his friend. -"She's going to be fine".
After that, Sophia didn't want to go home, she was too proud to do it. She was silently eating her sausage sitting in between her parents.
-"Thank you for helping her". -Jay broke the silence talking to Benjamin.
-"Yes, thanks". -Hailey continued. -"It was very brave of you".
-"I could have done it" -Sophia shaked her head- "But this stupid dress got tangled".
Kelly and Stella laughed at Sophia's statement. The spirit of that girl had always intrigued them greatly, she really was the daughter of their parents.
-"To be honest, even thought I was scared about it, I was absolutely sure you were going to make it".
-"Next time make sure to use kneepads and a helmet". -Leslie pointed out.
-"There's no way there'll be a next time". -Hailey closed the conversation.
-"Listen to me". Adam said to Mak. -"If you ever do something stupid like that, you won't get out of the house until you turn 21".
It was noon when they got back home. On their way, Sophia was strangely silent. Jay sat on the living room couch to watch TV. Sophia came in slowly, not being able to bend her knees due to the wounds.
-"You need help?"
She sat next to her dad, while he pulled up the coffe table close for her to to bring her legs up and keep them straight.
-"Thanks".
-"My pleassure". He turned the TV off, knowing she had something in mind.
-"You don't need to worry. I will never use a stupid dress ever again".
-"Soph, you would've get hurt anyway...clothes are not the problem, it's your lack of criteria". -Hailey entered and sat on the table, looking at her daughter's knees.
-"No, I mean...it's not about that". -She sighed. -"Everyone was staring at me, as if I looked silly or something, felt like a clown. How could you even let me out like this?".
-"I think that if they stared was because you looked georgeus and nobody had ever see you like that before...not even us". -Jay said honestly.
-"I don't know what I was trying to prove. I just...". -Her eyes got teary.
-"You just what?" -Her mom asked.
-"I just wanted to feel pretty. Everybody sees me as an impulsive and reckless girl...".
-"And they all love you like that, for who you are".
-"Yeah, well...I don't know what I was thinking. Things have happened in school and it was a feeling that grew inside me. It's stupid...".
-"No, it's not". -Hailey reassured her.
-"It felt good at the begining, but when I was there at the picnic I didn't feel like myself. I was really unconfortable". Calmed tears began to roll down her cheeks. -"I don't even know why I'm crying".
Jay and Hailey remained silent looking at her.
-"I just want to look and feel normal as the rest of the girls...I feel small around them".
-"Sophia Anne Halstead". -His father started. -"Look at me: You are the most beautiful girl I've ever known. I'm being objective here".
Sophia grined: "What about mom?".
-"She's the most beutiful woman, you are the most beautiful girl".
They laughed.
-"I mean it. Inside and outside, you are precious. Who cares about the looks, anyway? You are beautiful if you want to look girly, you are beautiful if you don't. And if someone can't notice that, it's because they're blind and they can't see the wonderful piece of little human being that you are".
-"Thanks, dad". He wiped his tears with his hands and hugged her with one arm. Hailey sat on the other side.
-"Don't squeeze to tight". -She said to both of them. -"There are parts of my body that I didn't even know existed in pain right now".
-"Now, if being more "feminine" is what you want.." -Jay said releasing tension. -"...you should start working on that". Her dad pointed to the swearing jar that was over the edge. -"I'm just joking".
-"I owe it like $5 for this afternoon".
-"You owe it like $20, but we can let it go". -Hailey said strocking her hair.
-"What do you want to do now?".
-"Is there any hockey game tonight?" -Sophia asked cleaning her face.
-"We can find a repeated one or we can always watch one of those terrible horror movies you like to watch".
Sophia opened her eyes in surprise.
-"When your parents are detectives, you gotta try harder". -Hailey said standing up: "I'll make popcorn".
The tone of the conversation had changed to a more relaxed one.
-"Not that I approve, but you know who was truly amazed by your looks today? That Benjamin". Jay said playing in annoyance.
-"What are you talking about? He made fun of me, said I looked snobby".
-"He was lying! Tried too hard to hide it" -Her mom yelled from the kitchen.
-"We are detectives, don't you remember?" -Her father teased her.
Thanks for reading. If you liked it, it would help my soul if you give it a like, comment or share. 😌♡

Y/D/N (your daughter’s name) was born 6 months ago and every weekend since she got here, Jay and Will would take turns visiting you to see what they could do to make things easier. You loved the help.
Jay didn’t start bringing Hailey by until recently, but you enjoyed having your girl time again. It had been a while since you had the mental capacity for it.
This week, you could tell that the detective had something on her mind. Between the baby questions and her asking you when you knew you were ready for a baby… all the beating around the bush, you just decided to get to the point.
“You and Jay ever talk about kids?”
“Yeah, we have. It's just that...Jay would be such a great dad.”
“I agree. We love Uncle Jay, don’t we,” you cooed as you shoveled mush into the baby girl’s mouth. “So what’s the problem?"
“I just— I don’t know. Would I even be a good mom? How would I know if I'm ready? If we're ready? Babies and I aren’t really on the same page… and the job..."
“Oh come on. Hailey." You can’t stop the scoff that escapes from your lips. "You never know if you're truly ready or not, but I’ve seen you with kids, you’re great with them.”
“Kids aren’t the same as babies, Y/N!"
You rolled your eyes, knowing damn well that Hailey Upton would rather chase down bad guys and put people in jail than hold a baby.
“They’re so little and fragile,” she whined, her face twisting in discomfort at the thought of dropping one of them.
“You wanna practice?” you asked as you held out your daughter for Hailey to hold.
You really meant to give her a choice, you think, but you’re placing Y/D/N in the blonde’s arms before she even gets a chance to answer.
A rainbow of emotions appears on Hailey's face from confusion to shock, to panic as she realized there was an infant in her arms.
You let out a chuckle as you watch her mouth something to your brother and awkwardly bounced the baby on her chest. It was probably something like “what am I supposed to do with this”, but you knew she’d get it eventually.
After all, who could resist the sweet facial features you and your brothers seemed to share? Your daughter was no exception to Halstead genetics.
Jay quickly raised his hands in surrender and left the room, that knowing smirk on his face telling his girlfriend that she was doing fine and to figure it out.
Tumblr media
Just like you expected, it didn’t take long for Hailey to melt from the happy girl’s giggles. No less than 20 minutes later, someone wasn’t ready to let Y/D/N go.
“Are you ever going to give me my baby back?” You laugh as you see the pout appear on Hailey’s face, hugging the little girl tighter in protest. “I’m just kidding, Hails. I’ve got a couple more things to do before I’ll need the munchkin.”
“She’s just so cute, Y/N. Look at those cheeks. Look at that smile! Oh my god, she’s smiling at me.”
“What can I say, she loves her Aunt Hailey,” you say as you walk over to where Hailey was sitting with your daughter propped up against her legs. You can’t help but admire the sight for a moment, before leaning over the back of the couch and giving her a rub on the shoulders. “And for the record, I think you’d be a wonderful mom.”
Hailey turns at your words, looking at you like you couldn’t possibly know that. But you did because for some people, you can just tell. It's so obvious.
You could tell by the way she looked at your brother, how much love she had for him and the trust they had for each other. When Jay got hurt, she was right there by his side, every second of the day that he had to stay in the hospital.
There was no doubt in your mind that Hailey was going to be the best mom to their kids.
“Really?” she whispers, and the small nod and smile you give her made her heart soar. You didn’t need to say anything else, she understood.
Standing up to return to your chores, you plant a comforting kiss on the crown of Hailey’s head.
It was something you started doing after you had your daughter and Hailey shut her eyes at the feeling, thinking about how much your validation meant to her.
You, being the ever-observant baby of the Halstead family, were the first one to notice there was anything going on between your brother and his partner. Since day 1, you were their biggest supporter.
You and Hailey were fast friends and you always saw her as the older sister you never had.
“I’m gonna steal her,” Hailey calls to you as you turned your back.
“Fat chance, blondie!” Your voice echoes down the hall, leaving her to continue playing with your daughter while you got things done.
Hailey, too infatuated by the tiny fingers wrapped around her own, doesn’t hear the soft footsteps making their way over to her.
“See? Even my sister thinks you’d be a great mom.” Jay’s voice broke the silence as he walked into the room, taking a seat next to his girlfriend on the couch. "And Y/N would know because she's one herself.”
“You heard that?”
“Mmhm."
“That was a dirty trick you pulled back there, leaving me alone with this little squish,” Hailey cooed, her finger stroking Y/D/N’s chubby cheeks.
“I knew you had it under control. You always do.”
“How do you Halsteads have so much faith in everyone? You and Will, and Y/N definitely has it the worst.”
Jay chuckled to himself, knowing that you had always been the best pep talker, even when you were a little kid.
“Well, that’s how our mom was and Y/N is, without a doubt, her mini-me if I ever saw one. I just wish mom could have met you. She would have loved you, so much,” he murmured as his hand came up to cup Hailey’s jaw, running his thumb over her skin lightly.
She leaned into his palm as he turned her face towards him and brought her lips to meet his.
Tumblr media
Nothing happened, but moms hear everything. Even the almost indiscernible moan that escapes from Hailey’s mouth as Jay bit her bottom lip didn’t go unnoticed by you… all the way from the laundry room.
“I swear to god, Jay, if y’all are gonna make a baby right now, get your asses outta my house please!”
“We should get out of here,” Jay whispered and the blonde nodded eagerly.
Jay got up from the couch with his girlfriend riding his coattails, finding you in the house in record time and handing you back your kid like she was a sack of potatoes.
Y/D/N was giggling like a maniac at her uncle's manhandling and you manage to shoot your brother a "really?" look before you're tackled by another person.
“Thanks for the baby fix, Y/N/N!” Hailey chirped as she wrapped you in a quick, albeit tight, hug and gave a peck to your cheek.
“Go.” You shook your head as you chuckled to yourself and the two were holding in their own laughs as they fled from your doorstep, hand in hand like they were teenagers again.
When did you become the mature one around here?

Pairing: Hailey Upton x Single Father! Former FBI profiler! OC! Kristoff "Kris" Aller
Summary:
Nine corpses, nine burnt buildings, nine victims --- no connections.
The Intelligence unit of District 21st had been unable to find anything. All the clues were dead ends, all the people murdered were different - there was no pattern, no connection.
The only thing in common in all the cases: the modus operandi.
More murders were happening as the unit remained stagnant -- the cases were increasing, and they weren't getting any closer to having even one suspect.
Voight had no choice: he called the most efficient criminal profiler that he knew - who had also left the Bureau after a terrible event.
Kris Aller didn't want to go back, he didn't want to look a monster in the eye ever again, not after what had happened to his daughters.
But the sergeant needed him. This case - all the murders - were linked to the tragedy of his life. A tragedy that Hank couldn't avoid.
A tragedy that only Hailey Upton would understand --- and uncover.
Chapter One: Benjamin Cooper
— God, I hate this song — the teenager complained in a grunt. Even though she was sitting in the passenger seat, she could hear the younger girl singing from the back. — Can you tell her to shut up?
— No way. — The man driving replied quickly. — Amber's expressing herself, I can't tell her off for that.
— So tell her to express herself with another song! I swear to God if I hear — the girl on the back sang loudly: I was good she was hot — Argh! — The teen grunted. — I gave up. My ears will bleed forever.
— Blackhawks won yesterday, let her cheer. — He looked at the girl by his side, worry present in his semblance. — Is there something—
— Billy's here! — Amber shouted, making both the man and the teenager flinch. He stopped the car.— Papa, can I go? Please, I need to talk to him—
— At least she stopped singing.
— I heard that, Tess! — He stared hardly at the older girl before turning to the other. — Yes, you can, Amber, but behave in class, ok?
— Thank you! — She freed herself from the belt, kissed and hugged her father, and held the door of the car. — Bye, papa. Bye, Tessa. See ya later! — she dropped off and ran into the school. Her shirt of the Chicago Blackhawks got the attention of some girls around but she didn't mind.
They watched the little girl go as they waited inside the car in complete silence.
— Oh, no. — Tess suddenly spoke. — Mother Alert, we gotta go.
A woman appeared on the horizon: it was too late, she had reached the car and was already asking for the teen to lower the window.
— you're a terrible getaway pilot. — she mouthed to the man before rolling down the glass and allowing the woman to come even closer.
— Kris! How good to see you! — the woman screamed.
— Hello, Margaret. — only Tess could tell his smile was fake. — How are you?
— Oh, dear, I'm suffering because of you! — Tess widened and moved away from the window. Being between the two now should be her punishment for complaining. — My boys won't stop asking for your pretzels! My house is a mess.
— I'm sorry to hear that. You haven't tried the recipe yet? — Kris kept his hand on the wheels. He wanted to leave as much as Tess did.
— I have, but I don't have the magic hands you do, dear! Would you like to stop by tomorrow and teach the boys how to make it? I think it's the only way to calm them down.
— Oh, no, I wouldn't like to bother you. — One of Kris' hands fell to the gearbox. — I'll bring some more to their training, don't worry. — the car started to move. — Sorry, I gotta go. See ya!
The woman was left behind in sidewalk as both Kris and Tess started to breathe easily again.
— Was she smelling? — Tess asked.
— Don't be mean. It was just some cologne...I guess.
— It's paradoxal, you know. The mothers love a single dad but are crazy to make you no longer single.
— This is the conversation you want to have right now?
Tess' smile faded away. Kris wouldn't miss a thing, would he?
— I don't want to talk about it.
— Okay.
— It's just silly stuff from school.
— If it's bothering you, then it's not silly — he started, and Tess finished the sentence with him, her voice was filled with impatience and discomfort.
— I know, I know. — she sighed. — Still, I don't feel like talking right now.
— Sure. — Kris kept driving. — Do you want to get some ice cream?
— I have class.
— It's okay, we have time. — He turned the wheel to the right and started to look for an ice cream parlor. They arrived at a commercial street very quickly. — Here it is.
— It can't be open.
— It is! — he parked without any problem. At this time in the morning, no one was driving or passing by a street like that, but, thankfully, the parlors and cafeterias were open — still empty, but open.
— So, — he turned off the car. — ice cream?
— I hate when you do this
Kris smiled.
— you hate many things but you love ice cream, don't you?
— yes.
— So let's go.
Kris made her smile — well, she was smirking but it counted —, and they approached the parlor with joy.
The man was about to crack a joke when a man showed up by the empty street corner.
Kris' steps slowed down, recognizing him immediately. He, however, didn't allow Tess to have the chance to look at the other man.
— Tessa. — He turned her over to him. — I'll be right after you, ok? Here, get the one you want. — Tessa noted something was wrong, but she obeyed and walked over to the parlor, keeping distance from the other man.
As she reached the shop, Kris waited for the man to come closer.
— Sergeant Voight. — Kris spoke with a tense voice. He already knew what this was all about. He knew what he was going to ask. That's why he didn't take any of Voight's calls. — How can I help you?
— You know how. — Voight was holding a file. — I need a profiling, off the books.
— The feds would be happy to help you with this.
— No. — Hank stepped closer, — they can't know. We still don't know the length of this and...
— Maybe one of them can be involved. — Kris grunted under his breath. He looked away and remained in silence for many minutes.
— We've got 9 victims so far. — Hank would say whatever he needed to convince the man. — It's a clear M.O but we cannot predict too much besides that. My team and I—
— Okay. — Kris spoke suddenly. This time, when he looked back at the Sargent, his eyes shone discreetly. — I'm in. — His look jumped to the girl in the parlor, now appreciating her ice cream. — With one condition. My daughters have to be safe , no matter what.
— Nothing will happen to them. — Voight handed him the file. — I already spoke with your boss, he said he'll take care of the center until you're done helping us.
Kris laughed.
— You're a step ahead, as always. — Kris walked away from the Sargent. — See you there.
Voight nodded and left.
And Tess was watching everything when Kris finally came to the parlor.
— You're getting back, aren't you? — Tess sounded suspicious. Her hands were squeezing the bowl of ice cream with strength.
— You don't have to worry about it. — Kris said, helding one of her hands in an attempt to calm her down. Her expression slowly softened. — I made sure you and Amber we'll be safe and... — He showed a mischievous smile. — you have your own high school drama to live now, forget about me.
Tess rolled her eyes at his words.
— I'm not telling you anything.
— Yeah? I doubt it. I think you will come up with five profiles by next week.
— God, you make me sound creepy.
Kris laughed proudly and loudly.
— What can I say? It's our family thing.
X
Arriving at the police station would never be discreet: as soon as Kris left his car, half a dozen officers turned to him. Some smiled, some widened their eyes, but the loudest of all was Ruzek, who cheered and shouted as he came closer.
— Can't believe you're here, man — Adam hugged Kris and tapped his back. — I always thought you'd come back
— Hold on, I'm not back — "yet", Adam whispered, interrupting Kris while they walked to the unit floor — Voight asked for help and that's it. Don't get too excited.
— I'm not, but Kim will be. She's been curious about you since Myk and Amber started playing together.
— But she already knows me… — Kris was confused, he couldn't understand the reason behind Adam's excitement in time
— But she doesn't know ‘Bishop’! — Kris grunted in distress — It's good to have you back, Bishop
Adam walked away laughing as they came upstairs and met with the rest of the unit. Voight, Upton, Torres, Burgess and Atwater stared at Kris immediately.
— Team, that's Aller, former FBI profiler. — Voight introduced him — He’s going to help us with this case, so bring him up to date.
The man nodded respectfully and came closer as Torres stepped in and showed him the board.
— We have 9 corpses, 9 places and 9 crime scenes. All of these men were killed between 9 p.m to 3 a.m, with chains and inner burns.
Inner? Kris frowned at the words and stared attentively at the photos.
— They were cooked. — Kim explained with a choked voice. — Tortured during the whole night. We can’t get why, we don’t have any suspects…We don’t even have images. Only the bodies.
— And we don’t have much more of them, either…They had to be identified by their dental arch.
— It’s cruel. — Kevin said.
— It’s personal. — Kris spoke. — The victims had any enemies in common?
— No one. Nothing, to be honest. — Adam approached the board with the photos of the victims. — Different jobs, different homes, different colors and ages…But the same way of death.
Silence took over the room. Again, confusion and tension paired in the air as the new member of the unit stared at all the data, and all the other members watched him. He was totally still, eyes frozen on one name on the board.
— Benjamin Cooper. — Adam broke the silence with anxiety, pointing at the name that Kris so determinedly looked at. — No criminal record, but he testify years ago in—
— I know him. — Kris cut him off, and his eyes finally moved: his gaze landed on Voight. His expression, even though still as before, focused on the sergeant for too long. — He’s the reason why I’m here.
Voight looked away: the discomfort made him move around the room as Hailey watched them both suspiciously.
— Why do you mean? — Kim inquired.
— I…I worked on the case he testified in. — Aller explained. — Thanks to him…it all went wrong.
— I want you to talk with his family. — Voight demanded. — They know something, but didn’t tell us anything. They’ll talk to you.
Kris crossed his arms over his chest. He didn’t take long to agree with the sergeant.
— Is this a pattern? — He asked before walking away from the board. — The other victims were involved in the case too?
— No. None of them had ever testified. — Torres replied.
— Cooper was a dead loss, the testimony was the only thing that could get him killed. — Kris went on. — He might be our connection.
— You heard him. Investigate the man, make a timeline of the night he was murdered, discover every single contact of his and find a connection. Every little detail can be important. — Voight gave the orders as he followed Kris.
They were about to walk downstairs when a strong voice stopped them.
— If Benjamin was a ‘dead loss’ as you said — Upton spoke up — why waste our time on him? The killer might act again tonight and we have to—
— Do we have any better leads? — Voight’s voice was sharp, his reaction was abrupt and harsh. His voice would grow louder if Kris hadn’t held him. — What? — He screamed at Aller.
— Calm down.
— I am perfectly calm for this case, Kristoff, but I cannot bear to see another dead body because of him .
Kris’ expression went dark. He bended over Voight.
— You’re not thinking straight….— Kris whispered. — Stay here. Remember what we talked about. I’m going to talk with the Coopers.
Voight walked back to the unit floor, and, before going into his office, he ordered again:
— Upton, you go with him.
She opened her mouth to protest, but Hank had already shut the door close.
Hailey picked up her coat and walked away with Kris, in complete silence.
They went downstairs and passed by Platt's balcony with a quiet goodbye. Even though the Sergeant clearly tried to talk with Kris, the man walked across the entrance and ignored all her glances.
Again, Hailey watched his behavior in silence and kept her way to the car.
— I'm sorry about Voight. — Kris said before getting closer to the passenger side. — This case is…. complicated to him.
They got into the car and Hailey asked:
— Yet, he won't tell us anything about it.
— It's a confidential case. — He argued.
— So confidential that you think everyone involved in it's a target. — She started the car.
— You need a connection. That might be it.
— Is this your profile? Or just a guess?
Kris responded with a snort.
— You're better off without knowing much about this case, believe me. — He shrugged in his seat. — Are we going to the Coopers or not?
Hailey grunted and drove away from the police station.
X
The house of the last members of the Cooper family was simple and humble. The garden looked abandoned, the grass was tall and the fence was almost completely broken. The car parked in the open garage was lowered, with empty tires and cracked windows.
They did not look simply poor — they looked like they had given up on life itself.
— I think it’s better if you stay here. — Kris spoke before Hailey could exit the car. Luckily or not, she froze for a second, giving him time to leave and walk over to the house.
After collecting herself, Upton got out of the car and ran after him.
— Excuse me? — She grabbed his arm and made him turn to her. — Who do you think you are?
— Look, don’t make this personal. Just — He cut her off before she could argue back — Just look around. They won’t talk to you.
— But to you they will? You're as arrogant as any shrink who's never been in the streets.
Kris watched her speak in silence: with his hands in his hips, he only waited for the woman to be done.
She stopped talking very quickly — after all, it was useless to say anything to his blank, strained expression — and the man enjoyed the silence of the street before finally replying:
— They will talk to me because they know me. — He stepped back. — Now, if you excuse me…
Ignoring his arguments, Hailey followed Aller close behind. He didn’t utter another word to her, and finally knocked on the house’s door.
— Anna? — Kris called. — It’s Kristoff. Can we talk?
Unlike the reception Upton and Voight received a few days ago, the woman answered him quickly and promptly. Her eyes were widened when she opened the door, but she frowned at Hailey. Anna’s face dropped, and she muttered to Kris a few words.
Kris signed to Hailey and they both followed the woman into the house.
— Can I see Benjamin's room?
— She already did — Anna replied before Upton could — They took all his gadgets and notebooks.
— I know. — Kris smiled gently. — I just want to check one thing up
Anna stared at him for too long — her gaze was heavy, not suspicious, but, somehow, sad. It carried so much guilt that she eventually showed him the room.
— I'm waiting in the kitchen. — she told them before opening the door of Benjamin's bedroom.
Kris stepped in as Anna walked away.
— As she told you, we already searched in here. You won't find anything useful.
— Maybe not. — Kris replied with a whisper, his whole being focused on analyzing the room. The walls were empty, and so was the bed and the dressers. — Looks like a prison cell.
— Or he was just minimalist. — Hailey argued. — Cooper's never been in jail.
— Yes. — Aller came closer to a drawer. — But he also had three records for criminal harassment. He was a stalker. — Kris wandered through the drawer and collected a few flyers. — Here it is.
— What?
— Our connection.
He didn't give Hailey time to question — Aller stormed out the room and came to Anna.
— Thank you for your help, Anna — He held out his hand to her. — We're already leaving.
The woman shook his hand and blinked slowly, as if gathering courage to say something.
— I have to tell you something. — Anna admitted.
Hailey saw Kris' expression drop — he stepped back and prepared to leave right away.
— You'd already told everything you needed. — He tried to be polite, but Hailey purposely stood in his way. He stomped on the detective and was obligated to stop.
— I did thank you. — Anna came closer, but Aller didn't look her in the eye. — But I never apologized for leaving you there. I shouldn't—
— It's okay. — He cut her off. — You don't have to. It's already gone. I don't resent you.
He smiled at her for a brief moment — only enough time to make her feel forgiven and understood.
Then he shook his head and left the house after saying a quiet goodbye.
Hailey stood there without understanding much — where was 'there'? What was Anna talking about? why would she thank him?
Upton followed him keenly — she wasn't going to stay in the dark again.
The way to the police station was silent: the tension stretched the air, making the atmosphere too heavy to even breathe. Kris shifted in his seat, his eyes were either moving to the window or to the driver's side. Hailey, on the other hand, kept her gaze on the streets.
When they parked and got out of the car, Platt was already waiting for them — for him.
The look that the Sargent gave Hailey showed her why the garage was completely empty. Trudy was furious.
— Have you gone mad? — She stomped over to Aller, and the man stepped back immediately. — What are you even—
— I guess your best ability is pissing the sargents off. — Hailey’s smile dropped as soon as Platt's gaze landed on her.
Kris spoke before Trudy could shout.
— This isn't the best place to talk about this. — He made Platt look at him again. — And you don't have to worry about it. — He held the sergeant's shoulders. — No one does. No one knows.
— Voight shouldn't have called you. You shouldn't be involved in any of this—
— Trudy, please— His eyes, shining with exasperation, turned to Upton for a brief second. — Don't—
— You can't help him! — She screamed.
And Hailey was watching and listening to everything. Maybe the whole station was.
— I can. — Kris' voice was still low, stable. Serene, the complete opposite of his face. — I will. Please, you—
— Aren't you thinking about your girls? How can you? He did—what he did was monstrous! — Platt would not stop. She could not stop. — He spanked you.
— I know. — Kris whispered as his arms involved the older woman. She was trembling under his hands.
— He raped you. — Platt sobbed, her tears were falling nonstop. — And you're being used again, you're ruining your life again for what? For him?
— I'm going to be fine, Trudy. I can do it.
— Voight's using you. — She pleaded again: — You can't—
— It's okay. — He hugged her tighter. — It's okay.
They stayed in the garage until the Sargent was able to stop crying. Until she was able to stop trembling.
And Hailey stayed there too.
She now had — at least a few — answers for all her questions about him.

They Don't Know About Us - Vanessa Rojas x Voight!Daughter!Reader - Chicago PD
Request: Can I get a vannessa rojas x reader where the reader is voights daughter (no one knows they're together) they are on a case and the reader gets shot and she has to be taken to med and vannessa I'd really worried like shes almost crying but no one knows why? And then vannessa calls reader "babe" or something and then the rest of intelligence is like "ohhhh"
Warning: gun violence, injuries from getting shot, mentions of surgery and fear of hospitals
Dating someone in Intelligence was hard.
1) You were Voight's daughter.
2) You were also a member of Intelligence.
3) Your girlfriend lived with another member of Intelligence so you couldn't go over there without raising suspicions.
Your were dating Vanessa Rojas. Someone who, despite being new to Intelligence, had caught your attention back when she was undercover.
It was almost laughable how you actually met her back when she was doing undercover work. The situation being that the undercover group had tried to arrest Intelligence and vice versa.
Vanessa had admitted that Hailey had suspicions she was dating someone, but the two of you were careful enough that nobody had any evidence.
Until a case hit the desks that had everyone ready to hit the ground running.
Tumblr media
You were in pursuit of a suspect when they pulled a move that had you swearing under your breath.
"How the fuck did they do that?" You grumbled, taking an easier route through the fence instead of over it as Kevin ran behind you.
Vanessa and Hailey spotted you sprinting after the suspect, they even saw the car that almost hit you until you jumped over the bonnet. What they didn't see, but heard, was the gunshot.
"50-21 Ida, 10-1, 10-1 shots fired at the police, officer down, I repeat officer down." Adam exclaimed down his radio.
It was Adam and Kim that found you on the ground, putting pressure on your wound as your dad and Jay went after the suspect that had shot you. Kevin was left to try find a way for the ambulance to get through the streets in the mean time.
"50-21 Eddie, roll an ambo to our location." Kim radioed in, leaving Hailey and Vanessa to run over.
You were barely conscious as your eyes landed on how Vanessa had frozen on the spot, staring at you in shock.
"Rojas, hey, Vanessa, are you okay?" Hailey asked, obscuring Vanessa's view of you as you were loaded into the ambulance.
///
Voight was talking to the receptionist whilst the rest of Intelligence sat in the waiting room. Hailey chewed her lip, eyebrows drifting into confusion as she glanced over at Vanessa.
Vanessa wasn't much better, sat with her hand in her hands as she tried to control her breathing.
"Vanessa, hey, it's going to be okay, Y/n's going to be fine, she'll pull through." Hailey stated, gently placing her hand on Vanessa's shoulder as she looked up, trying her best to stop the tears from falling.
Her mouth opened but no words left it as Voight walked over, briefing them all on how you were doing.
You were out of surgery and now in recovery, they could go visit one at a time when you wake up.
///
It took a while for your eyes to adjust to the brightness, your hand going to cover your eyes until you felt the wires attached to your arm. A sick feeling ran over you as you acknowledged each of them, wanting to remove them but knowing deep down that nothing good would come from it.
"I wouldn't remove those if I was you." Your father's voice caught your attention as you shifted your gaze over to him.
"Ever since you were little, you've hated hospitals." He pointed out, gesturing to the grimace on your face as the heartrate monitor's beeping filled the silence.
"Reminds me too much of what I lost before you took me in." You replied, fiddling with the hospital gown for a moment before you remembered.
"Vanessa! Is she here? Can I see her?" Your urgency had Hank raising an eyebrow before he realised you'd just given him the last piece of the puzzle.
"You know how I feel about in-house romances."
"You don't know how I feel apart her." You retorted, leaving him to raise an eyebrow.
"You really care about her, don't you?"
"Enough that I'll transfer if you try kick her out for dating me." You replied, receiving a brief nod before Hank looked over, gesturing for Vanessa.
The rest of Intelligence watched in confusion as Vanessa all but ran into your recovery room, already talking before the door was shut.
"Babe, are you okay?"
"Uhh?" Adam murmured as they each exchanged confused looks.
Voight barely stopped rolling his eyes at their responses as Trudy walked over with a smirk.
"Atwater owes me $30." She explained as Intelligence began to realise what had just happened.
"How long do you think those two have been a thing?" Jay asked, glancing between everyone before he looked at Voight, "did you know, Sarge?"
Voight glanced back at where you and Vanessa were now, so enshrouded in the warmth of each other that neither of you cared who saw.
"I had a feeling." He admitted, chuckling as he watched you practically melt into goo in response to Vanessa's smile.
The two of you were cuddling, inseparable.

Hailey is a bomb-ass character and I’m so so glad that we got to meet her. It’s been nice getting to know her and I don’t feel as though there are nearly enough Hailey Positive posts out there.
That having been said, I do love all of the ladies that have been on Chicago P.D., from Kim Burgess and Trudy Platt to Erin Lindsay and Nadia DeCotis. (Even Al’s daughter Lexi and Antonio’s daughter, too!) All of them brought something special to the show and that truly needs to be celebrated more in general.
But alas, this playlist today is all about our girl Hailey Upton. The love and heartbreak I feel for her get me everytime. She’s truly one of the best detectives to ever be on a TV show in general! I would go as far as to include her with the likes of Dana Scully and Olivia Benson (:
Hope you all like and enjoy the songs I have picked for her (: As always, if you want to see something added to the list, feel free to shoot me a message or an ask!
