Possibly one with Dr Halstead please where he realises his gf is pregnant before she does because he knows and recognises the symptoms very early on and he waits for her to realise and tell him and when she does, he's like "I know baby, I realised ages ago"
Or or, maybe he suggests he thinks she's pregnant and she's like "no I'm not, don't be silly" and he gets her a test and acts smug when it's positive
Idk, whatever you think
Will Halstead- Known For A While
Tumblr media
I loved it this much I will be doing one for Will and one for Connor. Both imagines will be very similar though.
Trigger warning- emetophobia (talks about feeling sick and being sick)
Will and YN have been married for only 3 months after dating for 4 years. Of course the topic of pregnancy and babies had come up and they both knew they would like a baby at some point but they haven't been actively trying.
Recently YNs breasts have been tender but she is due for her period and it's not unusual for her breasts to grow and be sore, she also has a day before her period where she feels nauseous and a bit faint.
This morning YN wakes up feeling sick. Groaning she sits up and rubs the sleep from her eyes 'that seafood medley I had last night must not have agreed with me at all' YN thinks to herself
"Baby" Wills gruff voice pulls YN out of her thoughts "what are you doing awake?"
"Think the sea food was off. I'm gonna go grab some water, you want me to make you a coffee?"
"No, I'll get up with you" slowly YN gets out of bed and makes her way downstairs to the kitchen, but the urge to throw up overcomes her and she rushes off to the bathroom. Within seconds Will is by her side rubbing her back
"Shit. You think I got food poisoning?"
"Not sure. Why don't we get you back into bed see how you feel later" YN throws up once again but now she feels better
"I actually feel a lot better"
"Really?"
"Yeah. Maybe I just needed to get it out of my system"
"Huh. Well I still think you should have a bed day and rest. I'll bring up some water"
Throughout the day YN stays in bed while Will waits on her hand and foot.
That was a month ago and YN's missed her period and thrown up a lot, she's also started crazing weird foods so after talking to her friend Natalie, YN has decided she should take a pregnancy test. After reading the instructions and peeing on the stick YN waits 5 minutes before looking.
2 lines
Positive!
YN excitedly runs back to the store to find a bag to put the test in. She also decides on getting some cute baby socks and a hate. While in the store YN bumps into Jay and Hailey, her brother and sister in law. YN quickly puts what she has in her hands behind her back
"Whatcha got there?" Hailey asks smiling
"Nothing" Jay moves around her to quick for her to know what he's doing. He gasps seeing what she has in her hands
"Are you pregnant?"
"Yes, but Will doesn't know yet, so when he tells you can you please act surprised?"
"Of course. Congratulations" Jay pulls YN into a hug before letting her go pay for the items.
Back at home YN puts the pregnancy test in to the small gift bag with the socks and hat. She then makes dinner for them both for when Will gets home from work.
"Hey baby I'm home"
"Hey" YN rushes over to her husband smiling wrapping her arms around his neck then placing a kiss to his lips
"Woah what's got you so happy"
"I made us dinner. Come see" YN drags Will to their dining room
"YN this is...."
"Want a drink?" YN asks
"Yeah, just a soda"
"No beer again? You feeling ok?" YN asks chuckling
"Yeah yeah, just not feeling like drinking"
"Ok soda it is" YN leaves the dinning room to grab them both a drink, but also picking up the bag. Placing the bag behind her back she carries 2 sodas into the dinning room with one hand. Will take one off her
"What's behind your back?"
"I got you a present"
"A present?" Will smiles "what for?"
"Just because I love you" YN shrugs. She hands Will the bag. He opens it up and laughs taking out the baby hat and then the pregnancy test. YN frowns not understanding why her husband is laughing
"Babe this isn't a prank or something. I'm actually pregnant"
"No I know. It's just I've known for a while. Probably a month or so"
"What? And you didn't think to tell me?"
"Wanted to see how long it would take you. I saw the early signs most people probably would chalk down to period or bugs, bit like you"
"Oh.... are you happy?"
"God course I'm happy baby" Will gets up and moves over to YN hugging her from behind "we're going to have a baby"
"We're going to have a baby" YN repeats smiling.

Kissing in the backseat
Going to galas wasn’t something that you were accustomed to, you were used to staying up in your little cove of Intelligence, working crazy amount of overtime hours while going up against Chicago’s worst. Flutes of expensive champagne and fancy finger foods weren’t exactly your forte, but when Trudy Platt was winning an award, the entire squad was going to be there to show their support.
The other thing you weren’t used to was keeping your hands to yourself on a Friday evening. Those were reserved for date nights with your girlfriend, dinner and a movie, hours spent wandering book stores with warm cups of coffee while picking out some new favourites. Take out on the couch while you sprawled across it together, watching old movies and binging tv show with cheap beer. All of course followed with hours tangled in the bedsheets together, which was exactly what you were looking forward to the most after this damn thing was over.
Because Hailey looked amazing.
She’d surprised you by going the route of a suit instead of the easier dress option, but you certainly weren’t complaining. It was extremely fitted, ghosting just over her frame perfectly, clinging to the curve of her ass that was accentuated more thanks to the heels on her feet. Her hair pinned up off her neck, a single strand of her bang framing her face, lips painted a deep red. Yes, keeping your hands off her was going to be a long and annoying task of the night, simply staying put and watching as she made her way around the ballroom. You would pretend to listen to what she was saying just to have an excuse to stare at her while she talked, your eyes trained on her lips, on her hands as she accented her words, daring to sneak down to the swell of her chest just peeking out over her shirt. Her lips would twitch up into a smirk whenever she caught you, which became more often than not after a few drinks.
Which is why you pounced on her the moment you were in the backseat of the uber. Your hands cupped her face, pulling her to you in search of her lips, meeting them hurriedly, letting out a small but uncontrollable moan at the feeling of her on your lips again. Your tongue slid across the seam of her lips just as she let out a surprised laugh, her lips bursting into a wide grin.
“Baby…” she giggled, “what has gotten into you.”
“You.” You replied with a smile, stealing another kiss, “you look so fucking gorgeous tonight, do you have any idea how hard it was to stay off you?” You leant in again, peppering her face with kisses, “sometimes I really can’t believe you’re mine.”
“Well you better believe it.” With a smirk her hand slid up your throat, only to gently guide you back to her, her thumb rubbing across your soft skin, “cause I am all yours, you’re stuck with me.”
“Good.” You murmured against her lips, kissing her again, “you better not make me go another five hours without a kiss ever again.”
“I don’t plan on it.” She said, nipping at your lip, “though if it gets you this needy maybe I’ll have to.”
“Now you’re just being mean.”
“How could I ever be mean,” she chuckled, her lips trailing across your jaw, “to the person I love?”
“You’re being mean right now.” You breathed out, feeling her teeth nip at your pulse point right before the car rolled to a stop. “and I love you too.”
“Well,” she reluctantly pulled herself away from your body, tugging you out of the car, “let’s get up stairs so I can show you just how much I love you.”
“Now that, sounds like something I can get behind.”

Pirate AU (An Upstead + Upton Sister Imagine)
A/N: I've been working on this one on and off since July. But, between moving out for the first time, full-time grad school, and working almost full-time, I'm finally getting it out now. Don't forget to reblog and comment! Also, the italics are the "present" and the regular font is the story/"past". I just didn't want to write almost the whole thing in italics.
Anyway, enjoy!
"The girls want a story," Duchess Natalie Halstead said to her husband, Duke Will Halstead, one night.
"And you can't tell them one because...?" Will trailed off and looked up from the letter he was writing.
"Because they say you do the voices better than me, and well, I agree on that front. So, if you would like our two lovely daughters to even think about sleeping tonight, I think you should come and tell them a story."
"How old do you think they'll have to be to go to bed without listening to a bedtime story?"
"I for one think it's adorable. Now please, I'd like to get out of this horrid corset in the next hour."
Will smirked, stood up, and pulled his wife close to him. "Only if you'll let me help you out of that corset later."
Natalie blushed. "Will, you scoundrel. Guess you've got some of your brother in you after all."
"More than just a little, love. But, I reckon you already know that."
He began kissing her, but she stopped him. "Will, the girls."
Will stopped and cleared his throat. "Right, yes. Bedtime story."
Natalie scoffed. "You men are so easily distracted, I sometimes wonder how you manage to wage war on each other."
"We have our moments of clarity. Plus, usually you're not around then to distract me."
Natalie rolled her eyes. "You're insufferable sometimes, do you understand that?"
"I do, but—"
"No, buts. C'mon."
Then, the two made their way to their oldest daughter's bedroom where both daughters were seated on the bed, impatiently awaiting a bedtime story.
"Daddy!" they squealed.
"Oh, will you tell us a bedtime story, pretty please?" The oldest asked.
He pulled up two chairs for he and his wife and then they both sat down.
"What will it be tonight?" Will asked.
"The pirate princess, oh please, Daddy!"
"Yes! The pirate princess, please!"
Natalie laughed. This was the one the girls always requested and Will must've told the story every week at this point.
But, Will would do anything to keep his daughters happy, so he began the story.
"Once upon a time, there were two girls and they were running..."
"Hailey!" you whisper-shouted. "Slow down!"
"We've got to hurry while it's still dark, Y/N. C'mon! And don't slip or else we'll be found out."
The two continued moving as fast as they could down the docks holding their skirts up so the dirty water wouldn't soak them.
They continued moving until they saw a ship with no torches lit.
"This one. Hurry."
You looked the ship up and down. The only way you could get aboard was to hold on to a rope that connected the dock to the ship and there was one rope that was connected to a rope ladder.
Your older sister, Hailey, was already on her hands and knees, preparing to grip the rope and maneuver herself across and to the ladder.
"Hailey," you hissed.
The only way to see was by the light of the moon and underneath was the dark abyss of the ocean. There was no telling what lurked below if you didn't make it across to the ladder.
"It's the only way," she told you. "I'll go first so that I can help you across if I need to." Then, she took off her shoes and stockings. "Enough with these. They'll only make it harder. You, too, Y/N. Get rid of them." Then, she dropped hers in the ocean and you tentatively took off your shoes and began working on your stockings while Hailey grabbed tightly onto the rope.
You held your breath as Hailey made her way across and thought your heart was going to stop when she took one hand off the rope and put it onto the rope ladder. Then, she moved her other hand to the ladder as well and then her feet.
"C'mon, it's simple. Just don't let go and look straight ahead," she told you.
"Hailey," you whined.
"Y/N, c'mon now. You can do it. You don't want to go back to dad after this, do you?" Hailey knew it was wrong of her to use one fear to get you to do another thing that scared you, but it was all she had at her disposal at the moment. She sighed. "I'll grab onto your hand as soon as you get close to me. Now hurry."
You crouched down just as Hailey had done and then listened to all her instructions about how to get across.
You moved across at a snail's pace, all while looking down as little as possible and trying not to think about what lay in the dark waters below.
Finally, you got to the point where you could grab onto Hailey.
She moved up on the ladder so that you had room to grab on. She left one foot dangling off, though.
"If you think you can't reach the ladder, just grab my foot."
"O- Okay."
"Now, keep your feet clamped around the rope and move one hand to the ladder."
You did so and felt your whole body shake while doing this.
Hailey directed you on how to continue and eventually, you were both securely holding onto the rope ladder that hung over the side of the ship.
Then, you climbed.
Hailey got to the top first of course.
"I'm gonna get on to the ship and then I'll reach over in case you need help."
Without giving you time to respond, Hailey made her way over the edge of the ship and onto the upper deck.
"This is the easy part," she reassured you.
And she was right, it was the easier part. You got over easily and Hailey held your arm as you made the final leap onto the ship so that your landing wouldn't be so loud as to arouse suspicion.
"Now what?" you whispered.
"Hold onto my hand," Hailey ordered. "We're going to try and find a door and it's dark, so I don't need you getting lost."
You walked around the ship for what felt like hours, and with each passing second, your palm got a little more sweaty thinking about the fact that you could be found out.
Eventually, with the help of what little you and Hailey could see by using the light of the moon, you found a door.
"Keep holding my hand," Hailey told you as she eased it open.
Hailey made her way down the first few steps, and you followed, and then she told you to close the door.
"But, Hailey! We won't be able to see!"
"Shh! Keep your voice down," she whispered sternly.
"I'm sorry, Hailey," you mumbled.
Hailey didn't respond, but you did hear a rustling close to you and then, there was a scratching sound and you could see by the light of a small flame that Hailey was holding.
She had brought matches.
"Now stay quiet," Hailey told you as the two of you began descending the stairs.
There were multiple places Hailey could've turned off of the dark staircase, but she continued down it until you got to the very bottom and, in turn, to the very last possible door.
Hailey tried the door and winced as it squeaked. She paused and held her breath, waiting for movement indicating that someone was on the ship and had heard.
But nothing came.
Hailey quickly opened the door, pulled you inside, and then reached over you to close the door as quietly as the squeaky door allowed.
The match was burning low—almost to Hailey's fingers—so she quickly shook it to extinguish it and held the dead match between her teeth. Then, she let go of your hand and quickly grabbed the packet of matches from between her dress and struck it.
"Follow me," she whispered.
You diligently followed Hailey while looking around you.
Everything around you was covered in thin blankets and netting and the few things that were uncovered were a few barrels.
You followed Hailey to the very back, to something that was covered by a blanket or tarp, you couldn't be sure.
"Hold this up while I look under it," Hailey told you and you lifted whatever kind of fabric it was so that Hailey could look underneath. "Just more barrels," she told you. "Under you go."
"What about you?" You asked.
"I'll be under after you. I want to make sure you're hidden because if there's only room for one, then I'll have to find another place to stow away."
"But, I don't—"
"Y/N, get under there. Now."
Hailey hated being this stern with you, but she'd rather this than the alternatives.
You got underneath the thick fabric and waited to see if you'd hear Hailey's footsteps moving away from you.
Instead, you felt the fabric being lifted once more and then heard Hailey blow out the match and felt her sit down next to you. There was a slight rustling as she made sure the fabric covered all of her and then, it was silent.
"How long do we stay here?" you asked Hailey.
"What did I tell you?" she asked.
"Until we don't understand what people are saying?"
"Until we don't know the language, that's right," Hailey confirmed.
"How long will that be?"
"I do not know, Y/N. I do not know."
***
12 hours later
"What I can't believe is that I'm just now learning that all five of you decided it would be a good idea to leave the ship unattended overnight. You boys are a half step above powder monkeys for god's sake and you can't even do one simple thing right. Next time I'm just gonna have to order two of you to stay on the ship. I tried to be reasonable and let you decide amongst yourselves who'd be staying, but I can't do that now, can I?" Captain Jay Halstead took a deep breath to steady himself before he exploded even more on the boys who were between the ages of sixteen and twenty. "Go check the stores in the orlop, make sure nothing was taken while you five were out gambling, drinking, getting laid, and having yourselves a grand ole' time last night."
The five youngest crew members walked away from their captain without a word to go do as they were told.
***
Hailey could feel her heart beating out of her chest as she rubbed soothing circles on your back. The seas didn't feel very choppy to her, but she had also been drunk before so she was used to the world spinning in circles while she tried to keep her composure. She'd give just about anything right now to be able to get you a cup of water or peppermint tea to help soothe your upset stomach. But, unfortunately, neither of these were options.
"It's okay. It's okay," she soothed. Luckily for both of you, you had nothing in your stomach, so you were only dry heaving. Hailey wished something— anything— would come out if only to stop you from being so miserable.
"I don't think he's being reasonable," Hailey heard someone saying. "It's not like he's never done—"
"Would you just shut up?" another voice asked. "Let's just do what we're told. I'm not losing my spot on this ship because of you."
"Y/N, I need you to be very quiet, okay?" Hailey said.
"But, I—" you tried, but were cut off by your older sister. Then you gagged again.
"Hold your breath if you have to," Hailey urged.
You took a deep breath through your nose and then held it just as the two of you heard a door swing open.
"I'll start with this side, you take that one. Check under everything, especially the food and drink stores."
Then, there were more footsteps.
You tugged on the sleeve of Hailey's dress as your eyes went wide but she just held a finger to her lips. Then, you covered your mouth and breathed as deep as you could through your nose to hold your breath again.
But, you felt the strong urge to gag and empty the contents of your stomach as the footsteps of men echoed throughout the room.
You looked at Hailey as tears came to your eyes and you opened your mouth and gagged.
Hailey squeezed her eyes shut.
"What was that?"
"Wasn't me."
"Check under everything. It sounded like it came from that way."
Footsteps grew closer and closer to where you and Hailey were hiding.
Hailey knew what she had to do. She had come on this ship to save you, and now she was going to possibly get herself in trouble to try and save you once more.
She took one last look at your pale and sweaty face and then ducked out from under the fabric.
Hailey put her hands up as all five of the boys'—they were not yet men— eyes landed on her.
"I mean you no harm."
The boy who had his hand on the sheath of his sword withdrew his hand and put it back at his side.
"What do we do?" one asked. "It's a lady."
"Go get the captain," said the one who looked the oldest.
"You're going to make me look like the crazy one? What will I say? Captain Halstead, please come to the orlop right now. There's a lady down here?"
"Yes!"
"He'll think I'm bluffing. Are you—"
"Go!"
He left and Hailey heard his footsteps bounding up the stairs and a faint call of Captain!
"How'd you get here in the first place?"
"I—"
Hailey was cut off by the sound of retching.
The one who had been talking and giving orders didn't hesitate to take a few long strides and lift up the fabric that was concealing you.
You screamed and then scrambled up and ran to Hailey.
"Two of yous. Anyone else you hiding down here?" he asked.
"No, there's no one else," Hailey answered and pushed you behind her. "Please, don't do anything to hurt us. Please."
Then, there were more thundering footsteps and a booming voice.
"If you are trying to make a fool out of me, I swear—" This man— who Hailey assumed as the captain— paused when he saw that his men hadn't actually been lying. "Oh."
"There's two of them, Captain."
You retched again and the captain moved to be able to see you hiding behind Hailey.
"One of which is a child who looks to be quite seasick," the captain said. "Come to one of the upper decks so we can help her," he offered.
Hailey stayed where she was, and in turn, so did you.
"I don't mean to harm you," the captain said. "I give you my word."
Hailey never trusted anyone easily, especially men. And she wasn't going to start now.
"Give up your sword," she said sternly.
"I beg your pardon," said the captain.
"Lay down your sword as a show of good faith and then we'll come with you."
"And how am I to know you won't pick it back up and use my own weapon against me?" he asked.
Hailey motioned to either side of her. "I'm clearly outnumbered here. It would be a death wish if I did that, don't you think?"
"Bold thing, aren't you?" Hailey kept her expression stern and didn't even so much as blink at his words. "Fine. If I set down my sword, will you both come up to one of the decks with me? I can have someone get clean water and oranges for you both."
"Correct," Hailey confirmed.
Then, with both his eyes still on this mystery girl who had snuck onto his ship, Captain Jay Halstead unsheathed his sword and laid it on the ground.
"Follow me."
You grabbed for Hailey's hand as she started to follow the captain. You'd heard stories of pirates, of them making prisoners walk the plank and how they locked others up in the lower decks and chained them up until they got to a port and could bring the prisoners to a proper prison.
Your lip began to tremble, but you bit it to stop from crying. Crying didn't help you escape your father and it wasn't going to help a pirate have mercy on you either.
You got to the top of the stairs and then the captain opened the door, the bright noon sun so blinding that you had to put a hand up over your eyes.
"One of you get oranges and drinking water for them," the captain ordered the boys who had found you and Hailey. "The rest of you, leave. Do not come to this deck unless absolutely necessary until I say so."
There was a chorus of yes, Captain and one saying that he'd get the food and drink.
The captain quickly moved two boxes. He gestured toward them. "Sit, please." Hailey skeptically looked up at him. "Please, I insist. Again, I mean you no harm."
Hailey looked at you and nodded and the two of you sat on the boxes, you still holding her hand. The captain moved closer to you both and sat down cross-legged on the deck.
All of the fear you had felt these past few minutes made you forget about your seasickness, but now that you were sitting still, you started to feel the familiar feeling of nausea.
"Hailey, I think..." you trailed off and dry heaved once more.
Hailey opened her mouth to comfort you, but the captain cut her off. "Take a few deep breaths and don't fight it," he told you. "If you fight it, you'll make it worse. Be one with the sea." He turned his attention to Hailey. "Once we get you some water and oranges, if it's okay with you, we can get her a mixture of wine and wormwood. Pirate's remedy for seasickness."
"Only a few sips," Hailey answered.
Then, there were footsteps coming toward you and the younger pirate handed you and Hailey each a glass of drinking water and two oranges. The captain then ordered him to go get the wine and wormwood mixture for you.
You were completely focused on not throwing up while you took small sips of your water and started to peel your orange that you weren't really listening to what the captain and your sister were saying. That was until you were through with your first orange and were almost done peeling your second.
What you heard made your heart drop.
"You'll have to tell me why you're here, love," the captain—he had mentioned his name but you were too busy trying not to vomit that you had forgotten it already—said. "I can't in good conscience let two ladies live with scoundrels for no good reason."
You saw Hailey hesitate, trying to figure out how much of your lives to reveal. In the end, she decided on the safest reason, which was also the reason why the two of you had run.
"Our father," she began, "he's not a good man. He's trying to marry her off to pay his debts. She's only twelve years old. We had no other choice but to run. Please, Captain Halstead. Let us stay."
You had never heard Hailey like this. She was usually so stern, so strong, so...independent. And here she was, practically begging a stranger to let the two of you stay on a pirate ship, mainly for your safety.
She'd rather have the two of you live with pirates who ruled the seven seas than have you go back home.
"I see," was all he said.
Then, he took a closer look at you. You looked like a terrified little girl, one who was not close to the eligible age of marriage. He may be a scoundrel, but he wasn't a brute.
Then, he was saved by the wine and wormwood being brought to you. The pirate handed it to him and then he held it out to you.
"Please, take it," he said. "It'll help."
You slowly reached out and grabbed it. The captain didn't let go until he knew it was securely in your grasp.
"Thank you," you softly whispered.
He knew then that he had no choice but to let you and Hailey stay. After all, when he became a pirate, he was also running from something. It wasn't dangerous, but he was trying to leave the life he was born into behind. So, in some way, he understood what you and Hailey were doing. Who was he to refuse someone the right to create their own destiny?
"I'll let you stay," Captain Halstead said. "On two conditions: One, you both sleep in my captain's quarters, and two, you call me Jay."
***
"Really, we can stay somewhere else," Hailey said to Jay once more. "We don't want to kick you out."
Jay waved his hand. "Nonsense. I can't let the two of you sleep downstairs with a bunch of smelly men. You'll be much more comfortable up here anyway. Plus, it'll help with Y/N's seasickness. You feeling better, love?" Jay asked you.
You nodded, still wary of the seemingly nice pirate.
"Good, I'm glad. If you two would like to stay here and get some rest, you are more than welcome to. Or, you can go out to the other deck we were just on. Not much to do out there now though since most of us are working after going to port yesterday."
"Thank you. I think we'll just stay in here to rest."
"Right then. Make yourselves at home. I'll bring up dinner when it's finished along with more water and some more wine and wormwood just in case."
Then, Jay nodded politely to the two girls and left his captain's quarters.
He needed to figure out what to do and he needed to do it fast.
Adam or Kevin? he thought. Adam or Kevin? Adam's the quartermaster because of how good he is at fighting and Kevin's the sailing master because of his smarts and logic...Kevin.
So, Jay made his way back down to the orlop to retrieve his sword from where he had laid it down in a show of good faith and made his way to the helm where Kevin was standing at the wheel, despite the seas being very calm today.
"Kevin, can I steal you a moment? I need to talk something over with you," Jay said.
Kevin said something to one of the men nearby him and then stepped away from the wheel. "Certainly, Captain."
"Right, follow me," Jay said. And then, remembering that the orlop was empty when he had been down there to retrieve his sword minutes ago, he started down there with Kevin in tow.
"No disrespect, Captain," Kevin began, "but why are we here?" Kevin asked as Jay was busy inspecting the areas behind barrels to ensure no other crew members were down here and that he and Kevin were really, truly alone.
"Listen, I've a bit of a problem right now and I need logical advice," Jay started and Kevin nodded, urging his captain to continue. "Last night, when we were in port, the junior crew members made one of the greatest fuck-ups of all time and left the ship unattended—"
"The entire ship? Unattended? For the whole night?" Kevin asked, flabbergasted.
"The entire ship for the whole night," Jay confirmed. "And, during that time, a woman, Hailey, and her younger sister, who's twelve years old, snuck onto the ship. We found them earlier and they're in my quarters right now. I don't know what to do."
Kevin furrowed his eyebrows. He didn't think his captain was this dense. "Drop them at the next port."
"I can't do that. The reason they snuck on here was because their father was trying to marry off the twelve-year-old, name's Y/N."
"Twelve years old?" Jay nodded. "Jesus Christ."
"Now you see my dilemma. I can't let them live with pirates nor can I, in good conscience, drop them at the next port."
"What do you think that you should do?" Kevin asked.
"You need time to figure out an answer, don't you?"
"A few moments would be nice, yes. So, enlighten me about what you plan to do with these two, Jay."
Jay sighed. "I suppose they could stay on the ship for a while, until we figure out a plan or until they feel safe enough to leave the ship."
"That's a good idea and I agree. Where will they sleep? Can't have them down there with all of us."
"God, no," Jay responded quickly. "The two will take my quarters and I'll sleep below deck with the rest of you."
"And when we get to port and leave the ship? What's your plan then?"
"We're at sea for a few more days," Jay answered. "I'll figure that out when we get that far."
***
Hailey laid in bed that night, waiting for you to fall asleep. As she held you close and shushed your whimpers due to the slight churning in your belly because of the motion of the ship on the sea—it had gotten better since the nice captain had given you that drink, but it still wasn't fully gone—, Hailey remembered how she and you had ended up in this predicament.
Hailey stumbled in the house just past five in the morning. Technically, she didn't stumble, but she tiptoed. Despite being an adult, she still had that fear of waking her father from his drunken stupor.
But, what she saw made her eyebrows furrow.
There, sitting at the table by the light of a kerosine lamp, were her mother and father. And, from the look on her mother's face, she'd been crying. Hailey scanned her over for any visible marks, but there weren't any.
"What's going on?" Hailey asked, still quiet so as not to wake you.
"None of your business, Hailey," her father said gruffly.
"Well, if mom's crying, then it damn sure is my business," she said smartly. She'd learned long ago that she could stand up to her father. Yes, sometimes she'd pay for it, but the regret had always been the worse pain of the two.
Her mother sighed. "Your sister's being married off."
Hailey didn't know if she had heard her right. Her twelve-year-old sister? Married off? She'd just started bleeding last month, surely they weren't serious.
"She's twelve!"
"She's a woman now and I have debts to pay!" her father whisper-yelled.
Hailey didn't care about waking you up now. She knew if you heard Dad yelling, you'd stay up in the loft anyway.
"She's twelve! She's still a child! Take me instead! Marry me off to whoever you planned for her!"
Her father scoffed. "You know I can't do that. Not with what you've been doing for the last however many years."
Hailey gritted her teeth. "Then lie!"
He slammed his fist on the table. Hailey looked up to the loft area where she saw you jump slightly. She quickly shook her head slightly and you turned around, scurrying back into your bed.
"Not when you've slept with half the townsmen for money!" he yelled. Hailey winced. Her mother put her head in her hands. "What's done is done."
"When?" Hailey asked. "When is she getting married?"
"A week's time," he answered.
Hailey drew a sharp intake of breath. "I need some air."
Then, she walked out into the night, trying to form a plan to get you out of this life.
She shook those thoughts from her head and listened to your even breathing, which ensured that you were asleep. Then, she finally succumbed to sleep herself because, unlike you, she found the motion of the ship on the sea quite soothing.
***
Jay felt like he'd barely slept last night. He'd forgotten how loud men snore and how uncomfortable the crewmen's beds were compared to the bed in his own quarters. But, he'd rather be the one sleeping down here instead of you and Hailey.
Quietly, he crept up the stairs and to the main deck. He knew it would be time for breakfast in about an hour and knew that most of his men would be waking soon. Because of this, he knew he needed to get out of this nightshirt and grab his sword--locked in a cabinet in his quarters, the key attached to a piece of twine and tied around his wrist for safekeeping--or else lose the respect of his crew.
So, he quietly pushed the door of his quarters open. He quickly opened the wardrobe and, with his back facing you and Hailey, he changed out of his nightshirt and into a more respectable shirt, even for a pirate.
Then, he went about opening the cabinet. After maneuvering the key into the lock and turning, he pulled out the key and then pulled the door open.
He never realized how much it creaked when it was just him in this room.
You woke with a start.
Jay heard a gasp from behind him and turned. In the dim light, he could see that you had sat up and had drawn your knees to your chest.
He fumbled with the matches on the table next to the cabinet and then struck on. Quickly, he lit the kerosine lamp.
He shook the match out and then put his hands out in front of him. "It's alright," he whispered.
You visibly relaxed when you saw that it was just Captain Jay who was in the room. You didn't think that he'd hurt you.
He grabbed his sword. "Would you like me to leave this lit?" he asked you, referring to the lamp. You nodded. "Okay. I'll come get you two when it's time for breakfast."
You nodded once more and he smiled at you. Then, he left the room and you laid back down and, after a few long minutes, fell asleep once more.
***
An hour later, Jay came back and knocked on the door.
"It's Jay," he said and Hailey told him to come in.
The two of you were sitting up in bed and she was braiding your hair. You looked up at Jay. He was carrying a pot with steam that rose from the top and two cloths were sloppily thrown over his shoulder.
"Figured the two of you might want to wash up." He set the pot and cloths down on the small table next to the lamp that he had left on an hour ago. "I'll be back in about twenty minutes to bring the two of you down to breakfast. Or, I can bring it up to you, but I figured you'd want to get out of this room."
"Going somewhere else on the ship sounds nice," Hailey said, and you agreed.
"Alright, I'll be back then to come and get you."
Then, he left the room and made his way across the ship and down one section of stairs to the kitchen. Most of his men were already there.
Good. He needed everyone—except Kevin since he's already talked to him—to be here for this. Granted, he knew the word was already spreading because things travel like wildfire on a ship, but he needed to get ahead of this...especially before the two of you came down here for breakfast.
Jay put his fingers in his mouth and let out a shrill whistle that got everyone's attention.
"Listen up, lads! We've two ladies aboard the ship! I don't want questions from anyone about how they got here because that situation has been dealt with. All you need to do is show them respect and there will be no funny business, you hear? Any of you so much as lay a finger on one of them or whisper a snide remark, I'll push you off the plank with my sword pointed at your back." He paused and looked around the room. "They'll be down here for breakfast soon, too, so I expect everyone to be on their best behavior and act like gentlemen."
Then, he turned around and strode out of the room and back upstairs.
He was about to go retrieve a telescope when a door slammed behind him. He turned to see Adam walking toward him, knife in one hand and apple in another.
"You sure it's a good idea?" Adam asked once he caught up to Jay.
Jay sighed and looked around. Barely anyone was above deck right now other than those who were lookouts or working the sails. He motioned for Adam to walk with him. Then, he moved up the staircase and told one of his men who was steering that he'd take it from here and to go get some food.
Jay's hands found the smooth edges of the ship's wheel while Adam used his knife to cut himself a piece of the apple.
"Well?" he asked once he had had a bite. "You really think it's a good idea to have two women surrounded by pirates?"
"Technically one's a girl," Jay responded, eyes still on the horizon. "More like a child."
"Jesus."
"Not like I had any other choice." So, he told Adam what he had told Kevin last night. He couldn't believe it had only been a day since you and Hailey had been on this ship; it seemed like so much longer with everything he'd had to think about regarding the two of you.
"Son of a bitch," Adam said once Jay was through. "What kind of person essentially sells off a twelve-year-old to marriage?"
Jay shook his head. "The world is a scary place...which is why we've chosen to be only on a land a fraction of the time."
"Pirate and philosopher. Who would've thought?"
Jay chuckled. "Never thought I'd even be a pirate, yet here we are. And, stop swiping food from the kitchen, would you?"
***
Breakfast went fine. Jay had stayed close to you and Hailey the whole time and you'd also met two of Jay's friends, Adam and Kevin.
Now it was nearing noontime and Hailey could tell you were getting restless. She'd asked Jay if there was any chance there was a needle and thread on board so that she could patch up a snag/small tear in the bottom of her dress. (Hailey really wasn't bothered by the tear, but wanted something to keep her hands busy and pass the time.) He'd brought her some and then the two of you sat on the small stairs below where Jay was steering the ship.
You had been staring out at the open water while Hailey had been busy fixing her dress. You sighed loudly. You were glad to be gone from your father and his wicked ways, but there was only so long that you could stare out at the vast sea before you.
Jay called over one of his men to take over the wheel. When you heard his footsteps coming towards the stairs, you looked up. Hailey looked up and then back down at her mending and then continued that. She didn't want to stick herself.
"Do you want to see a real sword fight, Y/N?" he asked.
Your eyes grew wide and you quickly nodded your head. You'd only heard stories of sword fights in fairytales!
Jay held out a hand to each of you and easily helped both of you up at the same time.
"Atwater!" Jay yelled. "How's about a duel?"
"You're on, Captain." Kevin unsheathed his sword from his belt.
Jay pointed to a set of crates and urged you and Hailey to go and have a seat.
Once the two of you were safely out of the way, Jay strode up to Kevin with a cocky swagger that only a captain of a pirate ship could have while he unsheathed his sword.
"May the best man win," Jay said.
Kevin nodded and the two began.
You watched in awe as their swords clashed and they ducked and narrowly missed the point of the sword. You watched their footwork on the ship's deck; it was like they were dancing, but it was a very dangerous dance.
Jay swept a foot in front of him, knocking Kevin's front foot out from under him. Quickly, in order to brace himself, Kevin dropped his sword. Then, he landed with a thud.
Jay leaned over him. Then, he pointed his sword at his friend's throat; it was just mere inches from actually injuring him.
"I believe that I've won," Jay said with a smirk on his face.
There were a few reasons why he had risen in the ranks and become a captain so fast, and his sword fighting skills were one of them.
"You have. Now, get that sword off me and help me off my ass, would you?"
Jay kicked Kevin's sword away from him so that he couldn't grab it on his way up. He then maneuvered his own sword and helped Kevin up his opposite hand, still on high alert in case he tried anything.
Only once Kevin was back on his feet did Jay sheath his sword.
The two shook hands, a show of good faith despite the fight being just for fun.
"I think you've a couple of admirers," Kevin said quietly.
Jay turned his head to look at you and Hailey. You were both clapping enthusiastically.
He strode over to you.
"Did you like it?" he asked, watching Hailey for any signs of discomfort. He knew some women were not fond of violence.
"It was impressive," Hailey complimented.
"That was so exciting! Can I learn how to sword fight, Hailey? Please?" you asked.
Who knew that in less than 36 hours, you'd be totally comfortable on a pirate ship?
"It's not ladylike for you to sword fight, Y/N," Hailey replied.
Jay smirked. "We're on a pirate ship, love. I think you're both well past the point of being ladylike."
It was like Jay could see the wheels turning in Hailey's brain as she mulled this over.
"Fine," she agreed. "Promise me she won't get hurt."
Jay nodded. "I promise. You have my word, Hailey."
"Okay. Go ahead. But, be careful," she told you.
You smiled. Then, you practically ran to the open space on the deck where Kevin and Jay had just been dueling. Jay just walked behind you while chuckling to himself.
But then, as he watched, he thought of how childlike you still were. Yes, you usually followed directions well from what he had gathered, but you still stared in awe at the sea and at other new things. There was no way he could imagine you getting married off.
He felt anger seethe inside him at your father for putting you through all of this.
Then, he took a deep breath. He needed to be calm while teaching.
"First," he began when he was in front of you, "we'll work on the basics. So, we'll work on how you'll stand and ensure you duck. No sword right now."
"Okay! I don't want to get hurt by pulling out the swords too early," you responded.
"Me either. I think your sister might have my head if that happened."
"She probably would," you responded. "She's very protective of me, but I know it's just because of what she's been through and that she doesn't want that for me."
Jay wanted to know what had happened, but he knew not to pry. So, he just put one foot in front of him.
"Stand like this. It's called a split stance," he instructed.
You lifted up your skirts slightly so that he'd be able to see your feet and up to a little higher than your ankles.
If you were in town, you'd be called scandalous. But, as Jay had already said, you were on a pirate ship so you didn't think those unspoken rules applied here.
Then, you stood as instructed. "Like this?"
"Perfect," Jay praised.
Hailey watched on as all of this continued and her heart swelled as she watched a man be so gentle and lighthearted with her younger sister.
You finally had the chance to be a kid—even if it was on a pirate ship—and she didn't want to take that away from you. She'd also be lying if she said that when you began working on ducking (still without the sword) that she clutched the dress she was working on and couldn't tear her eyes off of you and Jay. Every time you were safely on the other side of Jay's arm, she let out a her breath.
You were safe. He promised he wouldn't let anything happen to you. And, even though she vowed to never trust a man even if he had given her his word, for some reason, she was beginning to trust Captain Jay Halstead.
***
One week later
Hailey took Jay's hand after you were safely on land and allowed him to help her off the ship.
"Thank you," she said.
"My pleasure," Jay answered. "Now, I want both of you to stay close to me, alright?"
"I can handle myself," Hailey shot.
"While I don't doubt that, allow me to be a gentleman."
Hailey smiled. "Fine, I will allow that."
"Thank you."
Jay glanced at you. Your eyes were wide at all of the colorful dresses at the vendors. There was also a bird sitting on one vendor's shoulder as well as goats being herded into a fenced-in stall. There was a stand with freshly baked bread and pastries and one with fresh fruit. And, you couldn't even see all the way down the way to see all of them. There was already so much compared to what you had at the market in your small village!
"Where are we?" Hailey asked. She still understood the language that people were speaking, so she hoped she was still in England, but she'd no idea.
"Portsmouth, England," Jay answered. "Now, if there's anything you see that you would like, let me know. I do want to get each of you a nightgown and another dress so that you are not stuck in the dresses you've left in."
"You don't have to—"
"Please," Jay cut her off. "It would be my pleasure." Hailey nodded. Jay looked at you. "Where to first?"
"I- I don't know," you stuttered, still trying to take everything in.
"That's quite alright. You just let me know if you see something you like. I just told Hailey that each of you gets a new dress and nightgown. You can choose whatever color you want."
Your eyes widened. "Can we look at the dresses first?"
"Of course."
Then, the three of you made your way toward the stall with all of the dresses.
***
An hour later, you and Hailey had your dresses. Jay had asked for them to be wrapped in paper so that they wouldn't get dirty while the three of you continued walking. Like the gentleman he had been raised to be, Jay was carrying two of the packages, which meant that you and Hailey only had to carry one a piece.
Jay surveyed the area. He knew a tavern would be up ahead and he didn't know whether to bring the two of you inside or to leave you both outside, perhaps perusing some of the stalls close by.
He figured it would be safer to let you both stay outside. There was a pastry stall right across from the tavern where the two of you could meet him.
"I need to run in here and pick up some rum," he told you and Hailey. He noticed the way you instinctively gripped Hailey's arm at the mention of the drink. "It's mainly for my men. I'm not much of a drinker myself, especially not when we're at sea and need to be vigilant." You relaxed at his words. "But, there's a pastry stall right across. Here's some money. Get yourself each something and I'll meet you back there."
Hailey took the coins. "Thank you. Do you want something as well?"
Jay shook his head. "I'm not one for sweets."
"Alright then. C'mon, Y/N," Hailey said.
Then, you and she and you made your way to the stall that sold pastries. And Jay didn't go into the tavern until he knew that the two of you had made it to the correct stall.
After scanning the selection, you and Hailey each ordered your pastries. She decided on a blueberry muffin and you decided on a slice of lemon loaf with white icing.
Once you had the desserts, the two of you moved to the side and unwrapped them. You sighed when you breathed in the sweet, lemony scent.
"This smells like it will be the best thing I've ever tasted," you said to Hailey.
She laughed. "Well go on then. Give it a taste and tell me how you like it."
You took a bite and felt the icing melt on your tongue.
"Delicious," you sighed.
Hailey smiled and then took a bite of her muffin. "Mine is, too. We made good decisions."
Just then, a man came into their view.
"You look like you're enjoying that. Can I get you another?" he asked.
Hailey bristled. "We're fine, thank you though."
He looked at you. "What about you, love? Want another?"
"I- I'm okay with one," you said.
If Hailey said no, then you were saying no, too. And, even though you were young, you knew what could happen. Men weren't just nice to random women out of the blue on their own accord, usually they wanted something more, which was why you had been wary of Jay at first.
"Oh, c'mon, lassie. Won't cost you much later."
Hailey moved to stand in front of you.
"We said no. Thank you for the offer, but we do not need more pastries," Hailey said sternly.
As Jay walked out of the tavern with a bag full of bottles of rum, he saw Hailey standing stiffly with a man blocking some of her from view. He hoped you were behind her.
He opened the door to the tavern again.
"I'll be back for this," he yelled and then set the bag just barely inside the building.
Then he withdrew his dagger and jogged over to the pastry stand.
"Enjoy the pastry, love?" Jay asked as if nothing was wrong.
"Yes, it was very good," Hailey answered.
"I didn't realize she was—" the man started, but Jay cut him off.
"Enough with your excuses, mate. You should get out of here while you still can. It'd be in your best interest not to piss off a pirate." He began twirling the dagger between his fingers.
"Yes, sorry, have a nice day!"
Then, the man ran off.
Jay quickly put his dagger away. "Are you alright?" he asked Hailey. "Did he hurt you?" Then, he peeked over at you. "Did he hurt you?"
You shook your head.
"I don't know what he would've done if you hadn't come when you did," Hailey said. "Thank you."
"It's what any kind person would've done," Jay said, waving off the thanks. "Now, I've got to grab the rum and we'll keep walking around, yeah? And the rum is just inside the tavern and already paid for, so both of you are coming with me. Don't want that guy lurking and getting any other ideas."
***
"Captain Halstead," the man at the metals shop began when you, Jay, and Hailey entered. "What can I do for you?"
"I've a bit of a situation and all you need to know is that these two ladies need a way to protect themselves. We're here to look at your dagger selection," Jay answered.
"Daggers, Jay? I don't know..." Hailey trailed off.
"Y/N's already learning how to sword fight and I can't be there when we're in port all of the time. Please. It would keep my conscience clear if you both had something to protect yourselves."
"I get a miniature sword?!" you exclaimed.
Jay laughed. "I figure you can think of it that way, yes. We call it a dagger. So if a strange man comes up to you like one did today, you just take it out and flip it between your fingers. Should get him to back off. If not, I'll teach you a few tricks with it."
The man who owned the metals shop laughed as your eyes lit up. "Looks like you've a miniature pirate on your hands, Captain."
"She still has a bit to learn, but I think she's well on her way." Then, Jay shot a playful wink your way.
"Right then, I'll go get the daggers for you three to look at."
He walked into a back room and came out with three boxes stacked on top of each other. They looked like jewelry boxes.
He set them on the counter and flicked each of them open. "Here we are. The finest selection of daggers in Portsmouth. What suits your fancy?"
Shockingly, you stepped up before Hailey did.
You studied the daggers and their handles. Some were simple, with plain metal designs and a few ridges on the handle so that a person's grip would stay steady. But, others had more intricate designs on them, including color on the handle.
One drew your attention. The handle was of normal material, but the ridges were dyed purple and there was a gemstone embedded in the center. The blade of the dagger was curved.
"This one?" You touched the handle and looked to Jay, making sure that you'd chosen a good one.
"Good choice," Jay agreed.
"Not only is it one of the most beautiful ones I have in this shop, but the curved blade makes it one of the most dangerous," the shop owner added.
You looked at Jay, not knowing what to do next.
"Take it," he told you. "Make sure it's comfortable in your hand before you make the final decision."
You picked it up and felt the ridges of the handle pressing against your palm, contrasting with the smoothness of the gemstones.
"Let me have a look, make sure it's small enough for your hand," Jay said.
You held your hand that contained the dagger out to him, blade pointed at the floor so that you didn't accidentally injure anyone.
He furrowed his brow and studied it for a few moments.
"Looks like a perfect fit to me. Does it feel like you can grip it easily?" You nodded. "Alright, final choice."
"Yes, I like this one."
"Perfect. Hailey, your turn, love."
As you held the dagger in your hand, you felt powerful. And you never wanted to lose that feeling and you'd be damned if you lost it because of a man like how your father wanted you to.
***
Jay thought he was done with the bullshit that was drunk men after a day in port. But, alas, you and Hailey had put a wrench in that. He was currently in the belly of the ship trying to sleep, while he heard some of the men groaning from sickness due to how much they had drank—he even heard vomit splatter into a bucket—and some telling others about their escapades with women during their day in port.
So, Jay stood up and started out of there and up the stairs to the deck, anything to get out of there and get some fresh air.
***
Hailey was standing on the deck, staring out at the sea, not that she could see much because it was pitch black. The candle she'd brought from Jay's quarters flickered next to her, sitting in its holder on top of a barrel next to her.
She couldn't get Captain Jay Halstead out of her head.
And she needed to.
She knew love was dangerous.
Hell, she'd vowed to never fall in love, yet here she was.
Earlier in the day, when he held out his hand to help her back into the ship, she felt butterflies in her stomach. They were small like they had just broken out of their cocoon and were learning to fly, but they were there nonetheless.
That was when she knew she was in trouble.
She'd seen what happens when someone falls in love, which is why she vowed to never do so. She'd live her life as an old spinster if it came to that.
But, with Jay, she felt different. And that was what terrified her.
She jumped when she heard footsteps behind her.
"It's just me." She heard Jay's voice. "I couldn't sleep down there. You couldn't sleep either I presume?"
He was right up next to her now, both of them looking out at the vast, dark sea, not that they could see much of anything, though.
"No," Hailey answered.
"Good place to be on a night like this. Slight breeze to keep things moving. Warm night. And just look at those stars."
Hailey looked up just as a shooting star flew across the sky.
"Make a wish," Jay said.
She didn't know what to wish for though. Maybe more nights like this? Ones that tasted like freedom?
So, she let it pass.
Wishes didn't come true for girls like her anyway.
"I don't see stars like this back home in the city," Hailey said. "Too crowded."
Jay nodded. "One of the reasons I love the open water, just me, the stars, and well, no one can tell me what to do out here."
Hailey smiled and let out a laugh. "But you can tell others what to do?"
Jay chuckled at that. "I try to be as fair as I can."
Then, they fell into a comfortable silence as they stared up at the stars.
Jay broke the silence a couple of minutes later.
"I don't mean to pry, but why couldn't you be married off instead of Y/N? I know no one should be married off, but based on age, wouldn't it make more sense for it to be you and not her?"
Hailey swallowed. She knew this question was going to come eventually.
"Again, you can tell me to get lost if you want," reminded Jay.
"No, it's just, I don't want you to think less of me when I tell you."
Jay shook his head. "I'm a pirate, love. There's quite a bit you can say that I won't bat an eye at. Unless it's murder. That I can't excuse."
"But don't you..." Hailey trailed off.
Jay chuckled and shook his head. "As a pirate murder people?" he asked, finishing her question. "No. At least not directly. We just blow holes in their ship and hope that the other pirates know how to swim through a shipwreck. I've never slit anyone's throat if that's what you're asking."
Hailey nodded, mulling over whether or not she wanted to tell him about her past.
"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to," Jay reiterated.
"But you've done so much for me and Y/N, I probably should," Hailey said.
Jay quickly shook his head. "I never expected anything of you, Hailey. Just because I've helped you, doesn't mean I'm privy to your life story. That's yours to tell whenever you feel comfortable doing so."
Hailey closed her eyes and then opened them. Here goes nothing.
"Well, when me and Y/N ran and came on your ship, we thought we'd be hiding in the belly of it the whole time. Never imagined someone would help us out. It has always been us against the world and every man or woman for themselves."
Jay looked at her intently. He wanted to reach out to hold her hand, but he restrained himself. "I see," was all he said.
"Trust me, I wish it were me who could be married off. But, I can't. Everyone knows what I am: a whore."
"Hailey—" Jay reached out his hand, but she stepped back, so he put it down.
"No! It's true! I was sleeping with anyone who would pay me so that I had a chance to get out. And look where that got me. The only chance I had to save my sister, was gone because of my stupid decisions. But, I couldn't let her go with a man, she's just a child! And I couldn't let her stay home because our dad likes to talk with his fists. It's all my fault."
Hailey's legs buckled, the weight of everything being out in the open making her feel faint.
Jay quickly grabbed onto one of her arms. "I've got you," he said gently. "Let's go sit over here, yeah?"
Hailey nodded and Jay led her over to a stack of crates and didn't let go of her until she was safely sitting down. Then, he went back to grab the candle that was burning low and came back and sat on a crate opposite her.
"Are you alright?" Jay asked.
"Yes, I think I'm fine now. I don't know what happened."
"Just getting it all out in the open may have been too much for you," Jay began. "But I'm glad you told me."
Hailey sighed. "If I wouldn't have done that then maybe we wouldn't be in the predicament!" Her voice broke with her next words. "It's all my fault, Jay."
He reached for her hand and gently clasped it with his. "It's not your fault, love. You were trying to do what was best for the two of you."
"I just don't want her to turn out like me. She shouldn't have to turn tricks to get what she wants and—"
"She won't have to," Jay cut her off. "Not if I can help it."
Hailey looked up at him as a few tears ran down her cheeks. "What?"
"You two can stay here as long as you need. Hell, you can make it your home if you like. I know what it's like to run from something and you two shouldn't have to run anymore and live your lives in fear."
Hailey wanted to ask what he was running from, but she didn't want to pry and be considered improper, so she just said, "Running isn't easy. Leaving family, even though I hated my dad, I loved my mom, and leaving her wasn't easy."
"I understand," Jay agreed. "I left a life of luxury to come live as a pirate."
Hailey furrowed her brows. "What?"
"It's a bit of a long story. Are you sure you want to hear it?"
"If you don't mind telling me."
"Alright then." He paused. "At the time I left, I was sixth in line for the throne. My brother, Will, was fifth and my father was fourth. He was a duke. And, that gave me privileges and a very nice childhood. I won't bore you with the details.
"But then, my mother died of the fever. Some say it was brought on by the cholera outbreak and that a servant may have brought in that disease with them when they came to work, but I didn't care who brought it in or how my mother got sick. All I knew was that she was gone.
"My father was never the same after that. He was constantly drinking ale and wine. So, my brother, Will, and I were schooled harder in political and geographical relationships than ever before because everyone knew that my father was unfit to take the throne if the time came for him to do so.
"I realized that I couldn't live like this. I know it seems quite stupid compared to yours and Y/N's predicament, but I couldn't just sit around in a posh mansion and learn of all of these things that might not even be of use to me. I wanted to make my own fate.
"So, one night, I left. I slipped a note under Will's door explaining that I was leaving and I'd write when I could. I advised him to burn the note once he was finished reading.
"I bought some commoner's clothes from a nearby village at first light and made my way to the docks, looking for work. One of the ship captains offered me a spot on their ship as a crew member. I quickly moved up in the ranks due to my sword-fighting abilities. That was fifteen years ago and now I'm captain of my own ship.
"So, I know what it's like to want freedom and chase after it with all your might."
Hailey was stunned. She had never imagined that this was the story of how Captain Jay Halstead came to be. She knew that the shock was written on her face, so instead of expressing it verbally, she asked, "Do you and your brother still write each other? What of your father?"
"He drank himself to death," Jay answered without emotion. "As for Will, I write him every month or two. He's married now and has two little girls. He's active in politics and has fulfilled his duties as a duke."
Jay was speaking matter-of-factly now. Hailey knew he was trying not to show emotion.
"You miss him," Hailey stated. Jay nodded. "Will you ever go back?"
Jay thought for a moment. He'd be lying if he said that this hadn't crossed his mind on hot, stifling days when the summer sickness was going around the ship. "It's been years since I've left. I think I've a good thing going here and I don't want to ruin it by leaving."
Hailey nodded. She was starting to feel the same way with this ship.
"Have you thought of where you're going to go yet?" Jay probed.
Hailey tilted her head. Realistically, she hadn't really thought about this since the day after Jay found her and you hiding in the belly of the ship.
"I said we'd leave when I can't understand the language. Maybe I'll still do that."
Jay nodded. "Well, if you like, one of Kevin's closest friends, Vanessa Rojas, is a native of Spain. I'm sure she'd be able to help build your life back up in Spain if that is what you want to do."
"And it wouldn't be a bother to stay there?"
"Oh, no," Jay said quickly. "She vowed to never get married, for similar reasons such as your own, so sometimes she's mentioned that she gets lonely at times. I'm sure she'd love to have you. Would you like me to write her and ask?"
"Um, sure." Was Jay trying to get rid of her?
"Again, you can stay on this ship as long as you want, love. I'd be happy to have you and Y/N. And, the longer you're here, the more Y/N can hone her sword-fighting skills."
Hailey threw her head back and laughed. "Oh, don't remind me!"
Jay suddenly became serious. "I mean it, Hailey. You can stay here as long as you need. I—." He suddenly cut himself off.
Hailey gave him a puzzled look. "You what?"
"It's just that, I haven't been this happy at sea for long time. I love it, but having you and Y/N here just makes it so much better for whatever reason."
Hailey blushed and was glad that it was dark and hoped the candle didn't give enough light for Jay to see the effect his words had on her.
Then, he said the words she never thought to hear him speak: "Dance with me."
She cannot help it. A laugh escaped her lips as a smile stretched across her face. "What?"
He stood up and held a hand out to her. "Dance with me."
She took it. "But we've no music."
He began to hum. "Now we do."
Hailey laughed and threw her head back. Then, she took his hand and the two began to dance under the light of the moon. Jay hummed along with the sound of the water gently moving all around them, calming her. Soon, her eyelids began to droop and her movements became slower.
Jay noticed this and helped her back to his quarters. He turned around while she got dressed.
"You don't have to stay you know," she said as she pulled on her nightgown.
He smiled slightly. "By the way you were moving, yes I do. Can't have you falling over from tiredness."
She began to laugh and then quickly placed her hand over her mouth. You were sleeping peacefully, and she did not want to wake you.
Hailey moved closer to the bed and began to pull the thick blankets over her. "You can turn around now."
Jay does and strides over to her. He takes the blankets in his hands and smooths them over her.
She shook her head playfully and smiled. "You don't need to tuck me in as if I am a child, Jay."
Jay shrugged. "Sometimes it's nice to be cared for. Let me do that for you."
She laid her head down on the pillow. Then, Jay leaned down and pressed a kiss to her cheek.
"Good night, Hailey."
"Good night, Jay."
And then, he blows out the candle, turns off the kerosine lamp, and leaves the room. Hailey feels the smile on her face until she falls asleep. And, in her dreams, she dreams of Captain Jay Halstead.
***
The next afternoon, you were standing on the deck in your new dress with your dagger gripped tightly in your hand.
"Loosen your grip, love," Jay coaxed. "Just like the sword, you want to have enough grip on it so that it can stay in your hand, but also so that you can move swiftly and quickly."
"But what if it falls out of my hand?" you asked.
"With practice, we'll make sure that doesn't happen."
Hailey watched from afar, thankful that Jay was only using a piece of wood as his pretend dagger. He knew you didn't know how to dodge a blade yet, and he didn't want to hurt you while teaching you how to use your dagger and get out of the way of others.
"Now, I want you to jab right under my arm, like this."
He jabbed the air and then pointed right under his arm.
"Now you try."
So you did. You jabbed your arm forward and hit the air right under his arm. And Jay didn't even flinch!
"Good job! Now try and keep your arm tight, like this." He demonstrated again and kept his muscles tight this time. "This helps with controlling the blade."
Hailey would be lying if she didn't blush when Jay pulled his arm muscles taut when he jabbed again.
After a few more minutes of practicing this, you and Jay moved on to footwork and making sure that you could control the blade even when your feet stumbled.
Hailey was watching from afar and when your foot caught, her heart caught in her throat. She did not need you to be injured while on a pirate ship of all places. But then, Jay quickly reached out to grab ahold of you and helped you back up. Who would've ever thought that one of the most famous pirates of the seven seas was so caring and gentle when need be?
***
Jay and Hailey were once again standing on the deck late at night, gazing up at the stars. You had talked her ear off earlier and described every minute detail of what you and Jay did and what he had taught you earlier in the day.
"Y/N loved her lessons today, thank you," Hailey said.
Jay smiled. "I'm glad. You'll have to let me teach you sometime."
Hailey laughed. "I don't plan on being aboard a ship my whole life, Jay."
"And you think Y/N does?"
"I don't know. I can't leave her here, but I wouldn't be shocked if she begs to stay. She seems...happy here."
"Freedom and the seven seas will do that to a person. My first few days, I was nervous that my family would find me, but then as we got further from the land, I felt freer than I had felt since I was young. Maybe the fresh air had something to do with that, too," Jay joked.
They stood in content silence and Hailey took the chance to lean into him and rest her head on his chest.
"I've been thinking," Jay began and pushed a strand of Hailey's hair behind her ear, "I just finished the letter to Vanessa and will mail it at the next port. It's up to you though. You and Y/N can stay here as long as you want. But, if you're here a long time, I'm going to have to teach you how to fight one of these days."
"Hmm," Hailey hummed. Let's just enjoy the stars right now."
"They're beautiful. Just like you."
***
One week later
"Now, remember what I told you," Jay advised, "Adam's left side is the weak side—"
Jay was cut off by bells ringing.
"They're coming from the east, Captain!"
Jay cursed and quickly stood up.
"Everyone to your posts!" he yelled. "Girls, my quarters, I'll be in there when I can! To your positions!"
You didn't know what was going on, but you knew it was bad as Jay took off running while he unsheathed his sword. Then, Hailey quickly grabbed your arm and the two of you ran towards Jay's quarters.
As you were running, you saw what was coming: another pirate ship.
***
Jay knew he'd prepared him and his crew for this. Hell, he'd been in too many battles to count, but he'd never had to worry about women being on the ship if this were to happen.
"Canons?" Jay asked as Adam came up to him.
"Being loaded as we speak."
"Someone's guarding the food and water?"
"Two."
"Good. What could they have that we want?"
They hadn't been on a raid in weeks, so they were running low on valuables. They'd only been to one port after the one where Jay had bought you and Hailey dresses and daggers, but that was a week and a half ago.
Jay started to hear creaking and yelling.
"Here they come."
***
You and Hailey stood quiet in Jay's quarters. You had your dagger gripped tightly in your right hand, just as Jay had taught you.
The second you heard yelling, Hailey thought that you'd get scared and grab her hand. But you didn't. You kept your eyes trained on the door and bent your legs, preparing if someone were to come in.
It felt like ages before you heard it: the pounding on the door. All that was heard before that was men yelling and the clashing of swords.
Hailey pushed you behind her just as the door broke open.
"Well, well, well," one raggedy old pirate began, "we heard Halstead had a girl, we just didn't think one would be so young."
"Don't touch her!" Hailey yelled. "You want someone? Take me!"
"Fine." He quickly yanked Hailey into him, causing her dagger to clatter to the floor.
"Make her watch," the raggedy one said and pushed her to the man behind her.
She started yelling and kicking, but there was no way the man would let go.
What was it Jay said earlier? Go for the weak side and catch him off guard.
You quickly saw that he had his dagger in his right hand, meaning that his left side was his weaker one.
You lunged.
You don't really remember what happened next, but you do know that you jammed your dagger as far into his thigh as you could.
Then, you heard a pop!
"Get the fuck off my ship unless you want me to try this new toy out on you!"
Jay.
Then, there was silence. And then, the sound of more yelling and quick footsteps and splashes. The other pirates swimming for their lives.
"I'd let her go if I were you."
Jay was holding the small revolver he'd taken from a rival pirate to the other pirate's head. Adam ran up and pointed his sword at the throat of the raggedy one that you stabbed.
"Someone come get this fucker off the ship!" Adam bellowed.
The one who was holding Hailey rushed forward.
Jay held his revolver to the back of the pirate's head as he helped the raggedy one to the side of the ship. He and Adam watched as the two climbed into a dingy and then got lifted into their normal ship.
"Keep the canons loaded," Jay ordered Adam. "Just in case they try anything."
Then, he ran back over to you and Hailey.
"Are you okay? Are you hurt?" he asked.
Hailey shook her head. "I- We're okay. Y/N got him just in time. And then you came and— I need to sit down."
Jay held Hailey's arm as he helped her back into his quarters and onto the bed. You sat down next to her.
"I did it," you told him proudly, not grasping the gravity of what could have happened. "I went for his weak side and caught him off guard. Then I got him in the leg and he fell down and then you came."
Jay's eyes went wide and Hailey gave him a subtle nod.
"Still think she's not a pirate?" Jay asked with a joking sparkle in his eyes.
"She might be now."
"Well, in any case, I say the two of you spend a couple weeks in Spain with Vanessa. Enjoy land for a while."
"Will you be there?" you asked quickly.
"Not at first," Jay answered.
"But you'll come back, right?"
"I promise, I'll come back."
He gave Hailey a kiss on the forehead and then bent down to your height.
"You did so, so good today. I'm so proud of you."
Then you gasped. "My dagger! It's still in his leg!"
Jay threw his head back and laughed. "We'll get you another one when we dock in Spain. I promise. But tomorrow, I say we start teaching your sister how to fight. What do you say?"
Will looked down at his sleeping daughters.
"And then Y/N and Hailey went to Spain, Jay got Y/N a new dagger, and a year later, Jay and Hailey were married. Y/N's now the first mate on Jay's ship, no matter how much that sometimes scares Hailey."
Natalie gave her husband a look. "That last part's new."
"Well, I learned some new information."
"What?"
"Come with me."
Will took his wife's hand and led her to his office. There, he pulled out a stack of letters that dated back years.
"You're still in contact with him?"
"I have been since he left home. He always sent a letter every six months with his port. I just...never told you until now because I didn't want to scare you about Jay coming back and turning our girls into pirates."
Natalie shook her head. "I'm never scared of that. I don't think they'd leave, but if they did, I trust your brother and Y/N and Hailey to take good care of them. Maybe one day I can even meet him."
"Maybe. Those three don't stay on land for long, though."
"Once a pirate, always a pirate," Natalie said.
When Will and Natalie went to bed that night, they talked about what it would be like to sail on the seven seas. They knew they wouldn't last, but Jay, you, and Hailey wouldn't be able to stand living in a castle all of the time.
Everyone had their things, and if Hailey had known all those years ago that she'd be married and live happily ever after with a duke turned pirate, she wouldn't have been able to believe it.
But, despite the challenges, the Halstead brothers, their wives, and you, all got your own version of happily ever after.

I'll Take You Home
Fandom: Chicago PD
Pairing: Hank Voight x Reader
Genre: Pre-romance, fluff, slight angst
Warnings: Alcohol mention
Word Count: 2853
A/N: I keep dreaming about Hank lately, always trying to get cosy and huggy with him for some reason. (And also a dream about him confessing his love tearfully to Lizzo. Don't ask, idk.) So here's a fic!
-
These past few weeks had been the weeks of all weeks when it came to a case’s workload, it had been painstaking in every sense - from gathering evidence to running the city’s streets in the hopes of keeping hold of suspects, to eventually making sure the case would even hold up in court at the end of it. It was all-around worthy of a very very long weekend of junk food, tv and sleep. Yet, the catch was that in amongst your work-life, your personal life had somewhat been put into chaotic confusion. That confusion was fuelled by the existence of none other than your Sergeant, Hank Voight.
You had been struggling with your ‘crush’ on him for almost a year now, and it was starting to take its toll. You had tried in every way to shake the unwavering urge to be in his aura, to know him personally, more intimately. So much so that from time to time he would raise his eyebrows with a small chuckle, then ask “You good, kid?” To which you’d have to swallow your words, curse your blushing cheeks and nod with a sheepish smile. “Yes, Sarge. All good.”
To which he’d usually say “Good." and that would be it.
If he ever knew of your feelings he didn’t let on, and he certainly had never called you out on it. As for returning the feelings, well… you thought it would quite frankly be a miracle.
So here you were, fresh off the back of the unending case from hell, and being goaded by the rest of your colleagues and friends to at least join them for “ a few” drinks at the bar. You had already slipped into your most comfortable sweats, a hoodie and some sneakers that had already seen past their glory years, topped with a cosy beanie on your head to keep the chill away. That, apparently, wasn’t the best of excuses as the others had all put their comfort clothes on too, this was simply going to be a chilled out evening with oddly satisfying bar food and several rounds of alcohol to see out the case's end.
You had subtly, or so you thought, questioned Kim and Adam on whether Hank would be in attendance, to which they shared a glance and chuckled softly at you. Kim poked you gently, “I doubt it, he’s not one for socialising too much, you know that. Are you relieved or disappointed, Y/N?” She winks.
You stutter on your words for a moment, cursing internally as you try and recover. “What? I was just wondering, he is part of our team last I checked.”
Adam holds his hands up in surrender before wrapping an arm around your shoulder, kissing the top of your head. “We’re just teasing, Y/N. It’s all good, he said he’d probably just head home, so you can relax.”
You nod meekly, exhaling. You really couldn’t tell if you were relieved or disappointed, but you figured it was an obvious mixture of both.
Choosing to avoid his name at all costs in the evening, you let your friends carry the topics of conversation, from academy mishaps to relatives who seemed just as unruly and unusual as your own. You laughed, you ate, and you most definitely drank. To the point where Jay, Kim and Hailey began to periodically check on you. You could handle your alcohol physically, but mentally it was an unfortunate feature that you got to a point where emotions would spill out, for better or for worse. So one might imagine the shock and panic you felt when Hank Voight did indeed make an appearance 2 hours into the gathering’s festivities.
“Hey hey, boss! Good to see you.” Adam cheered.
“Nice of you to join us, Sarge.” Kevin smiled, already standing to get Hank something.
You sat between Jay and Kim who also greeted your boss, whilst you stayed still and silent, a deer in the headlights as he briefly made eye contact with you and nodded in your direction with a half-smile. In your surprised state, you eventually remembered to nod and greet him in return.
“Evening, ‘Sarge.”
“Evening, Y/L/N. Are you enjoying your well-earned break?” You licked your lips, you weren’t sure if he was genuinely enquiring or making a comment on your appearance. You hoped with all you had that it wasn’t obvious that you were drunk as a skunk, but the collection of cocktail glasses, your red-rimmed eyes and your slight slant into Kim’s body seemed to be the giveaway. Yet, in his eyes, sincerity did in fact remain. So you answered,
“I sure am, Han- Sergeant… Voight.”
If you could have asked Jay to stand across the other side of the bar and snipe you out, you would have. Wincing at the total mash-up of his name and title. He thanks Kevin for the drink that appears in his hand, and then hides his smile as he takes a sip.
Unbeknownst to you, Hank was very much aware of your crush on him. Not only did he have eyes, but Trudy Platt did too, and had told him to be careful. To not lead you on and do anything that would end up hurting you. So he hadn’t, he had kept himself away and did his best to not pick up on the sense of your wanting of him.
In the shuffle around the table, you’re not really sure how you went from being next to Jay and Kim to being next to Hank and Kim, you think you heard something about Jay heading to the bathroom and then grabbing the next round for the others - you made a mental note to kick Jay in the shins later. You hastily took in some of the water you had poured from the pitcher on the table, averting your gaze from Hank’s direction. Eventually, you had become so hot and self-aware, that you had to take off your hoodie, leaving you in an Eagles t-shirt that was a few sizes up from your actual size. Hank glanced your way, seeing how flustered you were he dared not engage you just now, leaving you to nurse your now alcohol-free drink and get your mind back under control.
Time passes and you feel calmer than you did, occasionally glaring at an apologetic Jay who was also in the loop on your weird, complicated, feelings towards your boss. Kim occasionally pats your leg, talking to you about more horror films she thought you’d enjoy the next time you came over for movie night. That was your element, and you were soon just lost in the animated excitement of talking to your friend. Which, regrettably, led you to supply more money for more rounds, everyone still very much in the joviality of togetherness.
Hank would occasionally just take in the sight of his team carefree and enjoying each other’s company, especially taken by your passionate conversations with Kim, clearly not aware that you had little by little let yourself relax, and subsequently, your thigh was pressed against Hank’s in the cosiness of the curved booth. Every so often you would lean into his side as you had with Kim, and even more shockingly wrap your arms around him, never quite consciously realising yourself, nor realising the widening of everybody’s eyes each time you did it. Hank simply took it in his stride, gently uprighting you and prying you off after a few moments. Not because he didn’t want to hold you, but because he didn’t want you to feel embarrassed in the morning.
Another hour passes and the buzz of alcohol starts to snake its way back through your bloodstream, eyes heavy with drunkenness and tiredness, now everything was somehow an amusing maze of topics that crisscrossed, much of the table reflecting the same. It was Jay and Kevin who held their drink the best, suggesting that it was time to call it a night, to which the much more sober Hank agreed.
Jay and Hailey would be taxiing together, whereas Kim, Ruze and Kevin were doing the same. You had, mistakenly, forgotten to arrange yourself a ride home, not even really intending to be out at all. In the dying moments of the evening, you felt the familiar feelings of heaviness creep up on you, you always felt alone at the end of the night, and the lack of a shared ride only compounded that feeling. It would otherwise not bother you had you been sober, but alas you were most definitely not.  Jay is just about to suggest you ride with him and Hailey when Hank gently places a hand on your arm to steady your swaying frame, he looks at you with a flicker of concern, the sadness in your eyes makes his chest ache,
“I can take, Y/N home, I’m still under the limit and she’s closer to my neighbourhood. If that’s alright with you, Y/N?”
You don’t immediately process the fact that a) Hank is holding your arm, and b) He’s offering a ride, until your brain completes its surprised buffering and you let a small, “Oh.” You swallow, blinking. Looking from Hank’s hand and your arm to the others, each of them with an amused expression, subtly nodding in encouragement to let Hank look after you.
“Sure, Sarge. That would be, uh, that would be really helpful. Thanks.”
“Not a problem, Y/N. Let’s get your sweatshirt back on, it’s cold out.”
Everyone resumes their gathering of belongings, smaller quieter conversations now that the bar is clearing out for the night. Everyone starts to migrate to the front doors to the sidewalk, but you’re drunkenly fighting the octopus that is the sleeves of your hoodie.
“Here, I got it.” A firm and soothing voice comes through the barrier of fabric that’s around your head, you feel the light pressure of hands as he helps your head surface through the hole for your head, and then he helps you tuck your arms into the sleeves, eventually pulling it down so that it fits comfortably around you.
With a fizzing warmth in your stomach, his hand remains on your arm, keeping you focused and upright, for which you’re grateful, and then it’s the classic phrase that you’ve grown attached to, “You good, kid?”
Hank eyes you curiously, lips turned into a smile, but his gaze holds something else too, something tender, something soft.
You lick your lips, nodding meekly as you smile back, eventually having the confidence to take steps out from behind the booth and towards the exit with your chaperone. Your legs wobble here and there, but you do a good job of making it out. You find yourself in a hubbub of goodbye hugs and “See you, Monday!” before you just as quickly find yourself alone on the sidewalk in the frost of the Chicago night, with Hank.
“My SUV is just down this way, you alright to keep walking?” He queries, eyes sincere.
Your heart is hammering, and you suddenly feel very self-conscious, as though you might be letting him down for not being sober enough. “I’m alright, thank you again for the ride.”
But there’s no hint of annoyance, disappointment or anger in his eyes, only genuine concern about your comfort, “Don’t even mention it. Come on.”
-
You spend most of the ride trying to keep your words in your head, afraid of what nonsense rambling might spill from your lips if you gave them half a chance. Yet, your mouth still finds a way to let a few things escape,
“It smells good in here. Like leather and aftershave.”
“Good to know it doesn’t smell like garbage.” Hank makes a grunt of amusement, smoothly taking each turn to get to your part of the neighbourhood.
“You drive good too, sensible, it’s so nice when we’re not in chaos mode.” You sigh wistfully, leaning your head against the cool glass of the passenger side window, absentmindedly fiddling with the hem of your hoodie.
Hank has to press his lips together to keep the laughter in, glancing at your faraway expression, looking the most relaxed you had all night.
You sigh again, humming this time, tracing your fingers across the bumpy texture of panelling on the passenger door, “Oh, Hank. You’re my favourite.”
This time Hank feels his stomach bloom into a flurry of butterflies, he knows you’re not at all in awareness of what you’re saying, but it affects him all the same. He had been trying so hard to quell the feelings he might have for you in return, but with each passing day, it seemed to get all the more difficult. He doesn’t respond to your words, however, with a cursory glance he sees that you’ve dozed off against the door, light huffs of breath filling the silence of the car.
-
You were supposed to be dropped off at home, but it was with great surprise that you discovered your keys had been left in your locker at the District and were not actually in your bag.
Those melancholy emotions started to bubble up inside you once again, feeling like a massive inconvenience for bringing Hank to a building you couldn’t even get into.
“I’m so sorry, Hank. I’ll just get a cab back to the district, sleep it off there and drive home tomorrow. Don’t worry, I’m so sorry, I’ll get out now…”
“Y/N, it’s alright, why don’t you-”
“God, I’m such an idiot, always an idiot in front of you, I’m really sorry, really-”
Hank doesn’t yell, but he does take a firmer tone with you to get your attention.
“Y/N, hey. Listen. It’s absolutely fine. You can sleep in the guest room at my house, then we’ll take you to the District tomorrow to pick up your keys. Alright?”
He has his hands on your shoulders, imploring you to keep focus, eyes shine in your tears but you can see he is serious about the offer and yet again there’s no trace of irritation.
“Okay, okay. Yeah, that would be great. Th-thanks.”
“Good. All right, back in we get, my place is only 5 minutes from here anyway.”
-
It’s almost like you blink and the five minutes were gone, now shakily gripping the handrail on the stairs that lead to Hank’s front door. He fishes out his own keys from his jacket and pushes the door open, a hand on the small of your back as he guides you through. Gently steering you to sit on a chair in the hallway as he crouches to undo the laces on your sneakers.
You sit quietly, letting him do the work as you take in the emptiness of his home. It wasn’t empty of material goods, but it felt lonely. Your stomach clenched in sadness for him, looking back down as he carefully pulled your feet loose. You never wanted him to feel that kind of sadness, and you sneakily swipe a tear away whilst his attention is elsewhere. Once he’s done he stands back up, smiling warmly, as he pulls you to your feet once more.
“Let’s get you up to bed, then I’ll bring you some water and pills.”
You look at him with such gratitude, “Thank you. Again. Really I mean it.”
“I know you do, sunshine. It’s no sweat.”
He doesn’t bat an eyelid as he throws out the term of endearment, meanwhile your mind catapults with shock, he had never ever called you something like that. And to hear it was, quite frankly, an absolute delight.
Your chest radiates warmth, and in the next moment, you’re no longer in your hoodie again, your body melting into the plushness of a mattress and plump pillows.. Your hat has been put with it on the chair next to ‘your’ bed for the night, socks are pulled off with the same gentle nature as your shoes, and you look up through drowsy eyes to see Hank smiling again.
“I’ll be right back. Just get comfy, and if you need anything you let me know, alright?”
You hum, allowing yourself to wriggle under the covers and feel the softness of the linen, it was utter bliss at the end of a long day.
You’re on the verge of sleep when Hank reappears with water and tablets as promised, setting them on the nightstand, he then sets down an extra item of a bowl. Presumably, for the scenario of not making it to the bathroom in the middle of the night. He observes you for a moment.
“Okay, that’s us for the night. I’m going to be next door, if you need anything at all, you just wake me up, okay? Sleep well, Y/N.”
“You sleep well too, Sarge. Sleep…sleep happy… dreams…” You mumble, already in your preferred sleeping position, melting into rest.
Just as your eyes fall shut, moving into the further depths of sleep, you’re faintly aware of soft lips on your forehead, and a low rumbled whisper to the room,
“You’re my favourite too, Y/N.”

For Siv and Onnie (I love seeing the differences between them tbh)
Eros 3 and 4, Ludus 2 and 5, Philautia 3 and 4
Eros
3: How do they feel about public displays of romantic affection? Does it make them uncomfortable? How do they feel if a romantic partner kisses them in public?
Before her death, Siv and Gina were one of THE most affectionate couples. However, after Gina was murdered, Siv becomes much more withdrawn, trying to avoid any show of affection (and really, emotion in general) in public.
For Onnie, it depends on if it benefits her or not. If being openly affectionate with a partner (most of the time it's just fake relationships for allyships because she's the queen of the nepo babies) advances her or Eobard's goals, then yeah, but otherwise, Onnie's actually super awkward with romance and PDA.
4: Do they believe in love at first sight? Have they ever developed a crush or romantic (or erotic) fixation upon a stranger based on their appearance alone?
Siv absolutely does not believe in love at first sight. However, she 100% believes in infatuation at first sight, since that's what her and Hailey had. At that point, Siv was working as a dancer at a strip club just to make enough money to stay alive, and Hailey was bodyguarding a guy who demanded to go to said club to get his rocks off or whatever. Hailey saw Siv up there on the pole, and she was basically immediately entranced by her. Siv, when they saw Hailey, was basically the same. They ran into each other a few nights later at the grocery store and ended up hooking up right after.
Onnie doesn't believe in love at first sight. They're not even sure if they believe in love in general, even after they meet Pippa. She definitely belives in erotic love, since she's hooked up with multiple women since becoming Eobard's second in command- turns out being able to vibrate your hand fast enough to phase through someone's chest has more than one use.
Ludus
2: Is your OC particularly skilled at flirting? Have they had to practice this or does it just happen naturally?
Siv's kinda an idiot when it comes to flirting. The best they can give you is a really corny pick-up line, like "Hi, I'm Siv, but you can call me after work." or something like that.
Onnie definitely has to practice her flirting skills, but they're better off than their E-2002 counterpart, mostly because of the entity they're bound to, since it automatically makes her more dangerous and seductive- which is, unsurprisingly, something a lot of women are into.
5: What seduction techniques are most likely to be effective when it comes to your OC? Are there some things guaranteed to get them going? Or are they immune to such things?
If you're gonna seduce Siv, be straightforward. Since she's kind of a useless lesbian, she's often unsure whether someone's flirting or just being nice in a totally hetero way.
If you want Onnie in bed (but why tho????), your best bet is to come at her with the same angle she would. Be seductive, and flirtatious, and definitely make a very large use of innuendo and double entendres.
Philautia
3: Does your OC judge themselves by the same standards as they apply to others? Or are they sometimes hypocritical in condemning others for faults they also possess? Or perhaps they find it easier to forgive others for things that they cannot abide in themselves?
Siv absolutely DESPISES themself, to the point that she sees herself as an irredeemable monster, and would forgive others far worse than themself.
Onnie sees herself as above human morality, so she often judges others for the things she frequently does, like crime or being an asshole in general.
5: Which of your OC's qualities makes them the most proud? Do they think more people should be like them in this regard? Or do they quite like being rare in possessing it?
Siv's best quality- in her opinion- is her relentlessness. Once they set their mind to something, they're not backing down, no matter how much it tears her and her reality apart to achieve it.
Onnie's power is their best quality- in their opinion, at least. She sees herself as near-godlike, and would prefer to be the only one with that level of power, even if it nearly destroyed her to get it.

The Halfblood Chronicles- Part 2
CHAPTER 2 Jealousy
'Deirdre? Ah, there you are!' Mitchells familiar voice cut through the air. I turned from my desk to face him. 'Hey man, wassup?' I folded my arms and lay back on the chair. 'Deirdre seriously, you haven't spoken to anyone since you lost the sparing match with Marie!!!' He huffed. I held back the urge to yell about my parent to him. 'I'm tired, Mitch, I'm going back to sleep' i groaned. That just made him even more frustrated. 'Deirdre hailey waves.' He began to scold. 'Ugh, your so bloody annoying!' I turned to him angrily. He just pursed his lips and put his hands on his hips…hey! That rymed! Okay, yeah, lets be serious for once. 'Deir, somethings up with you, even before the spar, it started the morning before it actually' he pondered. I sighed. 'Mitch, i had a really, really bad nightmare and its something best forgotten, i promise i'll tell you if anything else happens, alright?' I smiled. God, i hate lying to him. He thought for a moment before nodding suspiciously. 'right…Well anyways, lunch is ready' he held out his hand and i took it, and together we raced of to lunch.
Maria and Mitchell spent the next few hours whispering or training. I spend all that time training. More so with Varian, i decided to try a spear instead of a sword, Which i realized suited me better then the latter. Soon i mastered the spear completely, no one could beat me, Mitchell especially couldn't beat me. 'Miss. Waves? Uhm, M'lady has requested you, Mr. Craggs and Miss. Berman, to meet her in the Great hall' Avery, a helpful servant, Bowed and waddled of to gossip with her other servant friends. Maria and Mitchell kissed and laughed. God, i wish i could be somebody to someone. We all jogged down the Corridors, quickly arriving at the Great hall were Moon was waiting for us with eight others. 'Ah! There you are, Deirdre! Maria! Mitchell!' Moon happily greeted us. 'M'lady, Could you please explain why we are here?' I asked politely as i bowed, I quickly smoothed my shirt down and retied my corset. 'I would like you to meet some people! Here we have Sun' a short blonde walked over and winked at us. 'I'm sun! And, uh, i don't know, so, uh, im, gonna, uh, stand over, uh, here!' Finally she stopped talking!, the 'uh's were getting way to annoying. 'This is Iris and August' Moon pointed at two people who smiled and waved. 'Then we have Levi, olivia, Evelyn, Artemis and Ophelia' She pointed to four girls and one guy. Then another group walked in. Moon laughed awkwardly and scratched the back of her neck before continuing. 'right here we have Piper, rose, lydia and lucas' She pointed to four of them. 'Then we have Juniper, Callum, Cora, Skylar, Echo and Raven' She gestured to another load of people. 'And finally Rosalie, Naomi and then the twins Calliope and Caspian' She gasped for breath while we looked at the new people. 'Ehm, i'm Wolf' someone who looked around 16-17 rolled his eyes. Moon nodded quickly. 'We're here to train and become the new Blouna army, as the last perished in the last war, we are training to be the best' Cora explained. Okay, well thanks for the explanation cOrA. 'Right, guys, lets go sleep or train, im gonna sleep dunno about you guys' Wolf yawned and walked to a dog door. Which confused me till he morphed into a literal wolf. That confused me even more. 'How about we split into groups?' Piper suggested, 'who wants to train, put your hand up if you don't want to' She continued. 'Alright, so me, Rose, Raven, Echo, Rosalie, Naomi and Lucas are going to train while the rest sleep, is that okay?' She finished. Everyone nodded in agreement.
'Block! No, Slash! Your a failure! Your mom sucks!'. Watching Rosalie and Lucas train was just ehh, well, they really just distracted each other with insults. Naomi and Raven were good fighters but Raven was just that bit better. Rose and Echo were training together, as was Piper and Maria. I just decided to go for a walk outside of the kingdom, were i came across a meeting between two men. I hid behind a bush to eavesdrop on there conversation. 'Lord, noone expects it, well maybe the Deirdre girl, but apart from that, the Kingdom is unprotected, not a single being there has been trained well enough as the new soldiers only arrived today, and the three others have only been here for a week, they're too weak' one of them spoke. 'Well, Jamie, we should launch an attack on kampidescopia or Uldercoul, so no suspicion is raised, if they think we are attacking a different Empire, they will lower security and become reckless with their decisions' the leader spoke. My phone was recording it for Moon. 'yes, my lord' Jamie slithered away as a car pulled up, The leader got in and the car left, but not before i got the number plate on camera.
'Hmm, maybe we should save it till later, we'll look like fools if she already knows' Maria rambled. Mitchell looked unsure but agreed anyway. 'Right fine' I mumbled angrily. 'Dinner is being served' The voice of the familiar maid put us out of our thoughts of war on Blouna. When we got to the great hall, everyone else was already there. I ended up beside Mitchell and Lydia. I spent a good twenty minutes playing with my food before actually eating it. Mitchell kept looking at me in concern, seeing as i usually dig in, but i ignored him and ate my tea-spoons of soup quietly. Lydia showed no signs of concern seeing as she didn't know my usual behavior at dinner. I looked over at Maria, who was chatting with Raven, Echo and Caspian. Moon sat at a different table with Sun, piper, wolf and Other people. I ate quickly, before sprinting to my room.
'Who?'. I stumbled back from the girl i'd ran into, She had long wavy white hair, and her eyes were white aswell, she wore a simple nightgown and her pale skin glowed. A silvery moon crown was sat lazily on her head. 'Uh- who are you?' I rephrased her question, 'I'm Zia, but more importantly, who are you!?' Zia tripped and i caught her. 'I'm Deirdre, so, like, do you live here?' I replied slowly. She looked sleepily up at me and cuddled closer. 'Yeah…my mum is the queen….' She yawned and cuddled even closer. 'Umm, weres your room?' I asked looking for any doors that looked maybe fancier then the others. '…mhmm………..there' She pointed at a door at the other end of the corridor. I sighed and carried the heavier-then-me-princess the whole way across the corridor. I got a few strange looks from servants, and the princess' hand maiden, whos name i later learned was Claire. I finally got to the door and stepped into the room. It was huge, it had white walls with golden decorations, Zia's four poster bed stood up against the wall. Half of the wall was just a large window, with a door leading out to a balcony at the other wall. Zia shifted and cuddled me more. I was beginning to find this kinda embarrassing when Maria peeked through the door because she heard my voice replying to something that Claire had asked. Speaking of Claire she was near choking on her laughter while she did Zia's laundry. I glared at her and lay the princess down on her bed, which was a mistake as she took me with her. So now i was stuck clinging to her, with half my body falling of the bed. Eventually i managed to get out, with help from Claire who helped me replace myself with a teddy bear. As i left Zia's room, i glanced back at her, she was now drooling all over the bear, Classic princess. 'Deirdre! There you are, i have bad, bad news. Its Varian, hes in a coma!!!!' Avery exclaimed.

Author: Lisa Renee Jones
Release Date: August 9, 2022
ABOUT A PERFECT LIE
Secrets. Lies. A man. There's always a man. And there's always a truth to be told.
I'm Hailey Anne Monroe. I’m twenty-eight years old. An artist, who found her muse on the canvas because I wasn’t allowed to have friends or even keep a journal. And yes, if you haven’t guessed by now, I’m that Hailey Anne Monroe, daughter to Thomas Frank Monroe, the man who was a half-percentage point from becoming President of the United States. If you were able to ask him, he’d probably tell you that I was the half point. But you can’t ask him, and he can’t tell you. He’s dead. They’re all dead and now I can speak.

EXCERPT
“Can I join you?” he asks, motioning to the table.
There’s interest in his eyes, the kind a man has for a woman, but who knows, maybe it’s real or maybe it’s not real. Maybe he knows who I am and sees a path to power and fame. The way Tobey wanted me for money and power, right up until the moment I’d called his number aka his agenda; thus, he has not called me since I left. Maybe Harvard will lie even better than Tobey did. Maybe Harvard will at least kiss better than he did, and the lies would taste like temptation rather than convenience. At least then, if I’m used, I’ll enjoy being used.
Whatever the case, it’s clear I might actually be angry with Tobey and that aside, the interest that Harvard has shown in me, must be controlled before my Denver sanctuary is destroyed. “You can join me,” I say, “but only because I’m trying to save the rest of the place from the attorney in the house.”
I am pleased when Harvard laughs, where Tobey would have scowled, proving that Harvard has a sense of humor, which is rare for those in my life. I’ve barely completed this thought when he moves forward and claims the seat next to me, not across from me, settling his briefcase on that chair instead. In the process, his leg brushes my leg and for the briefest of moments, I’m transported back to the place that I’m now trying to forget: to Austin, to Drew’s leg next to mine, his wink, and I do now what I did then. I jerk back. If Harvard notices he doesn’t react. “Since we haven’t been formally introduced,” he says, resting his naked hands on the table. “I’m Logan. Logan Casey.”
“Logan Casey,” I repeat trying to ground myself in the present, at least for now, but some part of me is still swimming in that memory, which naturally has me wondering if this man is a shark in the water around me. “Two first names,” I add. “Sounds like your parents fought over who got to pick your first name. Did they draw straws for which choice became your middle name?”
“You’re actually right on target,” he says, laughing again, and it’s a nice, masculine laugh, and oddly this thought feels familiar while Logan does not. “No one has ever guessed that,” he adds. “My mother won the name war. The women always win. Speaking of names. Do you have one?”
“Hailey Anne Pitt,” I say, “and in my house, my father won the name war.” Because in my father’s world, I add silently, the women don’t win the wars. At least, not that he knows, not in an obvious way. I’ve learned this well.
“Well then, Hailey Anne Pitt,” he says, “what’s a Stanford girl like you, doing in a place like this? You’re a long way from school.”
I’m smacked in the face with a lesson I’ve long ago learned and forgotten with this man; strangers do not always remain strangers and all offhanded remarks can come back to haunt you. “That was a joke,” I say, shutting the door connected to my real life, and a path that leads to my father. “I hate attorneys, remember?”
He narrows his eyes on me, and for no reason other than instinct, I believe he’s looking for a lie that he won’t find. I’m simply too well-taught from birth, too skilled at being more than one person to allow such a detection. Well that, and the fact that I really do hate attorneys, which is why I’ll be a good one.
“That was a joke?” he confirms.
“Yes,” I say. “Are you amused?”
“Yes, actually. I am. What does a lawyer-hating smart ass like yourself do for a living?”
“When not busy taunting those who went to law school,” I say. “I’m an aspiring artist.” Both honest answers, if you put a “was” in front of the “aspiring artist” which I’d thought that I’d come to terms with, but the knot in my stomach says I have not.
Logan motions toward the art room. “Your career explains why you ended up here.”
“I guess it does,” I say, as this place serves me well to reconnecting to the Pitt part of my life, which is a place I really need to be right now, for all kinds of reasons.
“Are you good?” Logan asks, as if he’s read my mind.
My father’s words answer him in my head. Art is useless unless you’re famous, he used to say often, because of course, it was inconceivable that I might be good enough to be famous. “Art is like movies and food,” I say, shoving aside that bad memory. “Good is subjective.” I don’t give him time to reply. I ping the conversation back toward him. “What kind of law do you practice?”
“Corporate,” he says, and this time he pings back to me. “Do you live in the neighborhood?”
“Yes,” I say simply. “Do you?”
“I bought a building a few years ago where I live and work which means this is my home turf, and why I know you’re new here.”
“I am,” I say and since he’s clearly going to ask for details, I quickly preempt with an on-the-fly story. Actually, it’s the suggested story, Rudolf included in my file. “I came here for a job, and my new boss owns a house he’s rented to me for dirt cheap.”
“And what does an artist do but create art for a living?”
“I’m working for a private art acquisitions firm. I now hunt for treasures for a living.” This lie is actually my dream job that I’ve never been allowed to entertain.
The horror flick loving waitress delivers my coffee and brownie. “Thank you,” I say, because every politician’s daughter has manners beaten into her.
“No problem,” she says, “but if you come to your senses and want a better version of that coffee, just shout.” She eyes Logan. “I already know you want a crappy tasting coffee, on endless pour and a chocolate chip cookie. Coming right up.”
“Thanks, Megan,” he says, giving her a wink that I don’t classify as flirtatious, just friendly, and Megan is gone.
“Obviously you’re a regular,” I comment, “and they even like you.”
“And they like me,” he confirms, “despite knowing I’m an attorney.
“Because you’re good looking and use it to your advantage.”
He arches a brow. “You think I’m good looking, do you?”
“Oh, come on,” I say, crinkling my nose. “Everyone thinks you’re good looking. I’m simply stating a fact. We use what we have and those of us that are smart, know what we have.” I move on from what is really quite inconsequential. “Why work here, not at home, or in the office?”
“I find I get a lot of work done with a cookie, coffee, and no access to streaming television,” he explains.
No one in my D.C. crowd would make an admission of being human and distractible. Some people in my situation might take comfort in that fact, but I don’t. Logan’s an attorney, and my gut, which I’ll confirm with research, says he’s a powerful one, the kind that radiates toward my father. Maybe that’s a coincidence and maybe it’s not. Maybe he’s testing how well I execute my cover story. The possibilities are many. Though in all fairness to Logan, perhaps I’d lean toward his innocence, if not for the laundry list of recent events such as Tobey being gay and the FBI agent, who is likely working for my father, that I slept with to prove I was a) still desirable and b) not a killer.

AND WHATEVER COMES AFTER THAT| K.M.
Pairing: Klaus x Fem!Reader
Word count: 1991 words
Warnings: none
Summary: Klaus has been trying to convince the reader to be with him for years, but has always failed. At the end of one of Elijah's peace parties, Y/n finally gives in.
“For the lady…” Rebecca says with a smile, holding out my glass of wine for me.
“Thank you,” I say, taking the glass in my hand before refocusing my gaze on the dancefloor where the last few people are still keeping up with the silly beat of the current 60’s song. “You’d think they would have given up by now.” I say, laughing softly as I point down to where Hailey and Elijah are dancing, attempting to keep a somewhat respectable distance between them. Rebecca smiles and moves to rest her glass on the banister of the balcony.
“You’d also think he’d have officially made a move by now, but my big brother does things in his own little way.” She tells me, smiling still as her eyes linger for a sweet second on Marcel Gerard who is making quite the show of the way he’s twirling around his date, her dress shifting higher up her thigh with every turn. Rebecca scoffs softly, taking another large sip of her drink.
“He’s not the only one.” I say with a raised brow, her glass making a soft clinking noise against her ring when she grips onto her glass tighter, eyes drawn tight to show me she’s not exactly pleased with my statement.
“I don’t know what you’re implying, Y/N, but I’d remind you to think very carefully about what you’re going to say next,” She says and turns to face me, leaning forward to make sure I could hear her. “You may very well be my dearest friend and my brother may very well be completely smitten with you, but I’m not above kicking your ass.” She tells me and though her words would prompt a serious tone, I catch the little smile that slips onto her lips when our eyes meet.
“I have yet to see you try, Rebecca,” I offer in reply, laughing lightly as she shakes her head. “Besides,” I start, taking a sip of wine before handing her my glass. “I’d have to remind you that you’d be ruining your own clothing in the process.” I tell her as I move to do a slow twirl and she gasps softly, taking in the Audrey Hepburn inspired ensemble, the black dress and gloves being something that Rebecca had kept from her time spent in the actual decade. Her shock sinks into a small grin as she looks me over, eyes lingering on the pearl necklace we brought at a secondhand boutique last week.
“You look perfectly in place,” She tells me and nods towards the hallway behind us. “Maybe you could convince my brother to step out of his hole long enough to save you a dance.” She says and squeezes my arm softly as she passes by me, losing the glasses on her way down the stairs where she calmly clears the last few guest from the dancefloor and out the door, waving quickly as she closes the door of the ballroom behind her.
I smile, the music seeming louder somehow now that I’m alone in here and I find myself almost drifting down the stairs. I hum to myself, dancing towards the drink table. Swaying to the rhythm as I start pilling empty platters and used plates together.
“You missed the party,” I say softly, not stopping what I’m doing as I hear him still on the balcony above. “It was quite the turnout.” I add, stepping back from the table to look up at him, his lips tilting into a lopsided grin when he sees me.
“My apologies, love,” He shrugs eyes darkening as they slowly make their way from my lips downwards, lingering for a second on the pearls around my neck before slipping lower and lower, until he clears his throat softly, meeting my gaze in an instant. “I clearly had no idea what I’d be missing out on.” He tells me, voice low as he pulls a hand through his hair.
“Maybe you should come down here and get a better look.” I offer, tone matching his as I step back even more, slowly making my way to the dancefloor where he meets me in mere seconds, hands carefully resting on my waist as I move slowly to sway to the gentle melody, eyes glued to his as he lets out a soft breath.
“You are…” He starts, moving a hand to carefully take hold of mine. “Ravishing,” He whispers, the sound sending an almost electric shiver down my spine as he lifts my hand to his mouth where he places a delicate kiss to my palm, not once breaking eye contact. “Tell me..” He begins, using his teeth to carefully pull the glove away, holding my bare hand tightly in his own as he leads me into a dance. “Why won’t you be mine, Y/n?” He asks, holding me against him as he dips me backwards slowly, carefully turning us together before pulling me up to be but inches from his face. “Why won’t you let me love you?” He asks, keeping hold of my waist as he turns me around in his arms where he nimbly lifts my hand in the air, removing the other glove as he attentively traces the length of my arm until I can feel his skin against mine, the glove dropping soundlessly to the floor as I tilt my head to the side to see him.
“We’re dangerous together,” I tell him, carelessly letting him guide my hands to where he needs them and numbly allowing him to spin me out and then in before once again coming face to face with him. “We’d hurt each other,” I say, moving with him as we move one step forward and one step back, twirling and then repeating. “You’d hurt me.” I say, momentarily leaning back against him halfway through the twirl.
“I would never,” He offers and pauses as well, risking the loss of the rhythm to touch my cheek and gain my attention. “I could never.” He adds and I turn around in his hold.
“That’s what they always say,” I say and move my hands to his shoulders where I lead him into the same steps as earlier. “They always promise me forever,” He holds my waist delicately. “They never mean it.” I tell him, his eyes darkening as he tries to read my emotions.
“I am not them, my love,” His eyebrows knit together as he looks me over. “I will gladly give you forever and always and whatever comes after that. I love you. I burn for you,” He announces simply and I let out a shaky breath. “Can you truly say that you don’t feel the same? Tell me you don’t feel anything at all for me?” He asks, voice raw as he waits for a reply and I shake my head, dropping my hands to the side when he suddenly released me from his hold, looking to the sky as he shakes his head as well.
“Klaus,” I begin, pulling at the pearls to release the necklace from my neck, it along with the very obvious tension in the room making me feel like I’m suffocating. “I do feel the same. I feel everything and more, but it doesn’t change the fact that I can’t do this. I can’t possibly give you the power to hurt me.” I drop the pearls to the floor as I fold my arms around me, the playlist coming to an abrupt stop when the slow song ends.
“I understand,” He says after a moment, looking around the room, eyes scattering through the mess of dirty glasses and plates and coats that were left behind. “We should probably allow the staff to clean this place,” He tells me and forces a slight smile when our eyes meet. “Give me a moment to retrieve your things from upstairs and I’ll walk you home.”
“You don’t have to do that.” I say, guilt filling my heart as I see the hurt in his eyes that he couldn’t possibly hide from me even if he had attempted to do so.
“I know,” He says, picking up the fallen gloves and carefully handing them to me. “I want to.” He says, giving me a soft wink before walking up the stairs.
I let out a shaky breath as I pick up the pearls as well, folding them into the gloves to keep them safe and before my mind could even process the thought, I’m walking up the stairs, following the sound of his heartbeat that leads me to the room he spent the night in hiding away from the guests.
I use my foot to carefully push open the slightly ajar door, Klaus’s silhouette visible at the end of the room where he pushes handfuls of paintbrushes into cups of water as an overturned painting rests against the dresser.
“I couldn’t leave them uncleaned,” He informs me, my own heartbeat probably giving me away. “I got distracted downstairs is all, completely slipped my mind.”
“It’s okay,” I say and he looks at me quickly to nod before going back to his brushes and I walk to the center of the room, pulling at the string to turn on the light and get a better view of everything. “You were painting?” I ask, now noticing not just the one canvas, but a whole collection of them, all scattered and resting against multiple pieces of furniture.
“I felt remarkably inspired.” He comments shyly and I smile.
“By what?” I ask, mindfully reaching to turn around the largest of the canvases, the one I saw first and I can’t prevent the audible gasp that leaves my lips when I see the beautiful medley of colors that he’s somehow managed to create my face with.
“You.” He answers absentmindedly, shrugging slightly as he waves my coat and purse in the air to show me that he’s found it amongst everything in here. I smile, bending down to take it all in, every brushstroke and color, every piece of himself that he used to create every stroke of me.
“This is beautiful, Klaus.” I laugh softly, holding the hand with the gloves to my heart as a sudden rush of emotions run though me.
“The painting is only as beautiful as the muse who inspired it,” He comments simply, looking at me sweetly. “I don’t think I could ever verbally explain how much you mean to me, how much I care, how much you’ve changed me purely my existing. I don’t think I could ever completely fathom how remarkable you are and how extremely lucky I am that by some strange twist of faith I’ve been lucky enough to know you,” He laughs softly as well, smiling sheepishly as he catches my gaze. “I want to live my life with you, and I’d wait however long it takes for you to feel the same.”
“Forever?” I ask, standing up and placing the gloves onto the dresser beside me. He nods.
“And always.” He adds and I smile, the dreadful and fearful feeling in my stomach slowly dissolving.
“What about just one more minute?” I ask and he tilts his head, smiling as I slowly make my way towards him, pausing only for a second before cupping his face in mine. “Thirty seconds,” I say and he holds onto my arms. “Ten seconds,” I whisper, his forehead against mine. I breathe out slowly, nodding when our eyes meet, silently asking for permission before his lips delicately meet mine. My entire body filling with butterflies as he pulls away and I smile. “Let’s get married…” I say and his chest vibrates lightly as a happy laugh fills the air, pulling back slightly just to see me.
“Are you sure?” He asks carefully and I nod, pulling him closer to me again.
“I am yours, Niklaus Mikealson. Forever and always.”
“And whatever comes after that.”

You walked into the kitchen, still only barely awake. You were greeted by Steve, who was chopping up an apple for breakfast. “Someone’s tired” he said, smirking as he looked over at you. You just leaned into his side, too tired to hold yourself up.
He chuckled and wrapped his arm around your shoulders. You were so small in comparison to the muscular super soldier. You felt the butterflies appear in your stomach, just like they always did when Steve was around.
It was a stupid crush. He was old enough to be your dad even if you ignored the fact that he was technically over a hundred years old. You knew that he probably thought of you as just a kid.
What you didn’t know about was the huge crush Steve had on you. It made him feel horrible and creepy. You were so young and innocent, and he was an old man lusting over you. He was raised in a time where it was taboo to marry someone that was more than five years younger/older than you, but there he was: in love with a nineteen year old.
“Do you want to spar after breakfast?” He suggested, really only desperate for any excuse to see you. You slowly nodded your head. Your sleepiness was visible to the eye, from your half-open eyes to how you were practically moving in slow motion.
Steve couldn’t help but chuckle and point towards the coffee machine. “I made coffee. It might wake you up” he said, amused as he watched your eyes light up.
You quickly walked over to the cabinet and reached for a coffee mug. You struggled to reach, even on your tiptoes. “Here you go, sweetheart” Steve said, easily grabbing it and handing it to you.
Once the coffee had passed your lips, you felt ready for the day. He handed you a bowl of apple slices. “Is this where you give me a lecture about how important breakfast is?” You teased, gladly accepting the bowl.
A small grin slipped onto his lips. To him, you were the human form of perfection. He loved hearing you giggle or watching you get excited. All of your silly jokes managed to put a smile on the old man’s face.
“I still hate that they made me do those dumb high school videos. They just made me seem like an old man” he said. You loved to tease him about those videos. It was a nice little inside joke that the two of you had.
You both ate together in quiet silence. Once you finished, you jumped down off your stool. “I’ll take care of your dishes” Steve volunteered, already taking them from you. You couldn’t help but smile to yourself.
“Thanks. I’ll go get changed and meet you in the training room?” You suggested. He nodded in agreement, giving you a peck on the top of your head. You froze, shocked by the sudden action. He quickly apologized and bashfully looked down at the ground.
You felt the heat radiating off your cheeks as you walked back to your room.
Steve had always been a mentor to you, and you both were normally pretty affectionate. It wasn’t out of the normal for you two to be cuddling and watching a movie on a Friday night. There were sometimes when things would get a bit too affectionate, whether it was a kiss on the forehead or holding hands.
He always left you with a fluttering feeling and a schoolgirl smile on your face.
You grabbed a sports bra and some leggings out of your dresser and got changed. After throwing your hair into a ponytail, you headed down to the training room. You didn’t normally opt for a sports bra, but all of your athletic tank tops were dirty. So, you threw a light jacket over your sports bra.
You saw Steve through the giant glass windows. He was already lifting some weights. You opened the door, and he looked up to meet your eyes. He greeted you with a small smile.
When he turned around to set down his weights, you took the opportunity to admire his back muscles. You set down your workout bag and unzipped your jacket, throwing it on top of your bag.
Steve turned around to face you, and you saw his eyes go wide. You noticed his eyes roll down your body. Then, he forced himself to look up at your face. “I—ummm. I’m sorry” he mumbled over his words.
His cheeks were on fire as his face became bright red. He didn’t know where to look, so he settled for the floor. He was too ashamed to look into your eyes, but couldn’t stare at your body anymore.
“Actually...I can’t—I mean, I have to go,” his words were rushed and frantic. He didn’t even pick up his bag before quickly jogging out of the door. You were left all alone.
You looked back at where he had just stood, feeling nothing but confusion. You didn’t even know what to think. He hadn’t said much of anything before running out the door.
You slung your bag over your shoulder and went back to your room. You set your stuff back on your bed and heard people talking outside your door. You peeked out the door and saw Steve talking to Tony, Nat, Wanda, and Sam, who were all sitting on the couch.
You kept your door only cracked open, so they couldn’t see you. “Oh come on. Just tell her how you feel. It’s better than running around avoiding her” Natasha told him. Steve put his head in his hands. He had no idea what to do.
“She probably knows anyway. You aren’t exactly the most subtle. You two and your little movie nights” Sam said, chuckling. You wondered if Steve liked you and that’s what they were talking about. “You knew about that?” Steve’s cheeks became an even darker shade of red.
You could hear Wanda and Natasha whispering to each other about how cute you both looked when you were cuddling. You could feel your heart racing.
Did Steve really like you?
“Come on, Cap. How do you feel about her? Do you love her?” Tony asked, aiming for a serious answer.
The room was quiet for a moment. You thought they could hear your heart pounding as it rang in your ears. You stepped into the room, so you could hear better. They all saw you, but didn’t make any gesture so Steve wouldn’t know.
“Of course I’m in love in her. I think about her all the time. How could I not? She's the sweetest person I’ve ever met, and I love being around her. I love how she giggles when she tells jokes, and how she gets flustered when anyone compliments her. But at the end of the day, I am so much older than she is. She’d probably think I’m a creepy old man if she knew how I felt. She definitely doesn’t feel the same way, so what the fuck am I supposed to do?” He asked, running his hand through his blonde hair.
You couldn’t form the words to respond.
“Steve?” your voice sounded weak and vulnerable. He spun around and met your eyes. You saw the panic wash through him. “Oh shit” he mumbled to himself.
You could only think of one thing to say. “Is all of that true?” You asked him, still having a hard time believing. He nodded, but hung his head in shame.
“We’ll give you both a minute” Wanda said, before they all exited the room. You walked closer to Steve, but he still couldn’t look you in the eye. “Look at me” you said, softly.
His big blue eyes met yours, and you could see all of his worry. “So do you think I’m creepy yet?” His voice broke. You let your fingers slip through his, interlacing your hands. His eyes darted to your hands.
“I don’t think you’re creepy. I think you’re kind of cute” you said, bashfully. He tilted his head towards the side, confused by your words.
You watched his eyes glance down at your lips. “Can you just kiss me already?” You practically begged him. He chuckled before slipping his arms around your waist. He leaned in and slowly connected your lips.
He hesitantly pressed his lips against yours. Your grinned as you noticed his nervousness. You slid your tongue against his bottom lip, encouraging him.
You wrapped your arms around his neck, toying with the ends of his hair. You both pulled away as you heard whistling. You looked over your shoulder and saw Sam watching you both.
“Come on, let’s go” Steve said, taking your hand and pulling you towards your room.
Sam wolf whistled again at the both of you. “Ignore him” Steve whispered in your ear, before closing the door behind you.
You laid down on your bed and pulled him down with you. “How about we watch a movie?” You suggested, running your fingers through his hair.
He nodded his head before adjusting himself on the bed. He sat with his back against the headboard, and let you sit in between his legs with your back against his chest.
You ran your fingers up and down his legs beside you as you started the movie. He pressed a kiss to your temple.
“So why did you run out of the training room this morning?” You asked, glancing back at him. He chuckled to himself before answering you. “The sight of you in that sports bra. I felt like a creep ogling at you. I knew I couldn’t stop myself. I didn’t want to freak you out” he told you, scratching the back of your neck.
You felt the heat rush to your cheeks. “I wish you would’ve told me that. I was having a hard time not staring you, Mr. Muscles” you teased, leaning into his touch.

Pairing: Jay Halstead x Reader
Requested: Yes
Prompt: Bearded Jay Smut
Warnings: swearing, smut (18+)
A/N: I know the timeline is off but just go with it.
Sitting at the bar, you couldn’t help where your eyes wandered across the room. You were at Trudy and Mouch’s wedding, and even though it was a joyous occasion you were kind of ready to go home from the start. The night before you had discovered your ex-fiancé and the new girl in intelligence were dating, and it was safe to say you were drowning in your sorrows. You and Adam had been broken up for almost a year, but you still loved him and in the back of your mind you just hoped time would give you both the perspectives you needed and you would be back together. You had no right to be upset, but you were having trouble convincing yourself of that. The night was starting to wind down, as you downed a shot. You had held it together for Trudy wanting her to have the best day ever, but since they had left a few minutes prior you were ready to get drunk enough you couldn’t remember your own name.
“You know the longer you sit still the harder it’s gonna hit when you stand.” Jay teased sliding in next to you.
“Good.” You sighed, turning around to take another drink.
“Well in an effort to ensure I don’t have to carry you out of here would you like to dance?” He asked, holding his hand out to you. Contemplating for a minute he smiled when you took a hold of his hand following him out to the dance floor. Frank Sinatra played in the background while his hands slowly moved to rest on your hips. You and Jay were friends. You worked together and were around each other a lot. You got along well, and you weren’t afraid to admit he was an attractive guy, but you had always been locked in on Adam. So, your friendship never even toed the line. You never even thought about it, until tonight.
“I’m going to go out on a limb and say you found out.” Jay whispered into your ear looking down at you.
“Found out about what?” You eyed him curiously until he nodded towards where Hailey and Adam sat laughing together.
“Wait..you know?” He nodded, “How long has it..?”
“I only found out a week or two ago so it probably hasn’t been that long.” He shrugged,“How’d you find out?” He continued. Sighing your hands rested on his chest.
“Today was actually supposed to be Adam and I’s wedding day. Before we decided to push it. So, I kind of went down a dark hole after the rehearsal dinner and went to see him. When he answered the door I saw her come out of his room.” You chewed on your lip.
“Oh fuck. What’d you do?” He pried.
“I made some excuse about not being able to find something I needed for today so I thought I might’ve accidentally left it there when I moved out or left or whatever. I was just going to leave, but then I had to pretend to look for it, and when I went into his room a bunch of her stuff was there. You know in the dresser I used to use.” You recounted the night before swallowing hard.
“That sounds awful. I’m sorry.” He shook his head pulling you closer as he moved a hand to rub your back.
“Yeah it wasn’t my finest moment. I’ve been avoiding him all day,” you chuckled blinking tears away, “How are you feeling about it?” You looked up at him hoping to shift the focus off you.
“What do you mean? Why would I care?” He masked.
“Come on Jay.” You scoffed giving him a look.
“I don’t have any say in what or who she does.” He said.
“How do you let it roll off you so easily? Not let it bother you?” You wondered.
“I want her to be happy, and wishing that I was the one over there isn’t going to do anything for either of us.” He shrugged nonchalantly, “You deserve to be happy. You deserve to have fun too right?” He continued.
“I don’t know. I guess.” You replied.
“You do, and that is why you’re out here dancing with me.” He smiled, spinning you effortlessly, causing you to laugh. You and Jay would spend the next hour talking and dancing letting your minds push away the two people across the room.
Jay and you were caught up in conversation, your bodies practically up against each other causing heat to surface on your face at the feeling of his hands holding you close. His tie now hung loosely on his shoulders, the top few buttons of his dress shirt open, and his sleeves had been rolled up allowing you to see the veins throughout them. You had never realized how attractive he actually was until you were this close, eyes counting the freckles that covered his face.
“Incoming.” he mumbled looking over your shoulder; breaking you out of your thoughts. You turned to see Adam walking towards you.
“No no no.” You whined hands gripping Jay’s shoulders tighter. Adam clearing his throat when he reached you,
“May I cut in?” He asked, looking between the two of you. A glint of confusion present in his face. Jay’s eyes shifted from him to you, registering your panic of having to face him right now.
“Uh actually I just offered to take her home. We were just heading out.” Jay attempted to save you.
“Oh well we’re going to be going right past your place we could just drop you off so Jay doesn’t have to go out of his way, and I’d actually really like to talk to you for a sec-“ Adam started to grab your hand.
“No it’s all good. No big deal. I already promised her I would.” Jay stepped slightly in front of you.
“Yeah I’m just going to go grab my coat and say bye to Sylvie. See you on Monday.” You pointed walking off to leave Adam and Jay alone on the dance floor. “You didn’t have to do that.” You smiled softly when Jay fell back by your side.
“He shouldn’t get what he wants all the time.” Jay shrugged.
“So is the ride offer actually on the table?” You asked.
“Of course.” He smiled helping you put your jacket on before pulling his on and heading out to his truck.
Walking outside you had made it almost to his truck ensuring you were far enough away from the door that people wouldn’t be watching before grabbing onto his arm to stop him. This could be a terrible, horrible idea, but that thought didn’t seem to over power your want.
“What’s wrong?” He asked, turning to face you where you leaned against the brick wall.
“You know I had every intention of waking up tomorrow either horribly hungover, or in someone else’s bed, and considering you prevented the latter..” You trailed off looking up at him.
“Are you serious?” He asked after a few seconds of silence.
“I’ve been holding out, hoping for something to change with him. I’m done waiting around.” You admitted weakly.
“I don’t want to just be some outlet to make Adam jealous.” He shook his head.
“This isn’t about him. This is about me and what I want. For once.” You laid a hand against his neck.
“Are you sure this is a good idea?” He whispered stepping closer to lay a hand against the cold brick, body just inches away from yours.
“Jay, I am going home with someone tonight, and I really hope it’s you.” You bargained. You hadn’t done this in months, and you were just ready to let all the pent up need out. Jay searched your face for hesitation before leaning in to capture your lips. You quickly responded, hands wrapping around his neck to pull his body against yours. Letting him take control of the kiss when his fingers moved to tightly grasp your jaw. Tongue slipping into your mouth in time with the movement. You hummed when he nipped at your lip pulling away to take heavy breaths.
“My place?” He whispered lips almost up against yours again. Nodding quickly you reached into his coat pocket fishing out the keys to unlock the vehicle. Chuckling he took them from you opening the passenger door to help you in before walking to the drivers side and starting the truck. You could see him looking at you from the corner of his eye as you chewed on your bottom lip appreciating his features lit up from the street lights. He turned to wink at you before putting the truck into drive and heading towards his apartment.
The silence was tense and a little bit awkward as you started to second guess your forwardness. You weren’t just using him to get back at Adam, right? You were a grown woman and you had needs. Needs that hadn’t been met in far too long, and the person that was going to satisfy them just so happened to be your co-worker from the same unit. That’s all. It was all coincidence. Plus Jay was hot. Everyone knew that. Why couldn’t you enjoy that fact when the opportunity presented itself? “What’s going on in that head of yours?” Jay asked jarring you out of your thoughts.
“Nothing. I just..I don’t know. Kinda embarrassed.” You admitted shrugging.
“Why?” He questioned grabbing a hold of your hand.
“I could’ve approached that better instead of acting like a horny teenager.” You laughed looking down.
“I would be lying if I wasn’t hoping you’d say something though.” He looked over at you grinning.
“What?” You looked at him confused.
“I mean you’re obviously beautiful and I thought we had a great night together, but I didn’t want to overstep bounds or make it awkward. I was just hoping you picked up the same vibe I was catching. I’m not the greatest at saying what I want.” He chuckled. Shaking your head you looked down smiling to yourself, feeling a little lighter in the knowledge that he wanted you too. Lifting the center console up you scooted closer to him. “Well hello.” He smirked, hand falling onto your thigh.
“I like your beard.” You smiled running your fingers through it. The last time you had seen him with one was when Erin left, and the only time before that was when he had been kidnapped. Remembering the bruises that accompanied the facial hair. Tracing his face where they had healed completely.
“Yeah?” He replied smiling at the gentleness of your hands as you admired his face.
“Yeah, I think you should keep it.” You voiced your opinion.
“Maybe I will.” He squeezed your thigh when you leaned over to lay soft kisses along his neck, nipping at his ear as you moved your palm over the crotch of his jeans. You felt his breath hitch at the movement, letting out a low growl when your lips attached right below his ear, heel of your hand pressing down simultaneously. “Oh god, I can’t wait to get you inside.” Jay whispered, breaths becoming labored at the insistent pressure of your hand. Quickly pulling into the parking garage of his apartment two minutes later. Putting the truck into park he let his eyes fall shut, head falling back onto the rest his hips finally moving up in time with the movement of your palm. The sight before you and the feeling of his obvious arousal already causing moisture to gather between your legs. Giving him a couple more rocks of pressure before slipping your hand up his shirt to rest on his stomach.
“Jay?” You whispered pressing a gentle kiss against his jaw, his facial hair tickling your nose. He turned his head to look at you, pupils already visibly darker than before. “I want you.” You stated. He grinned giving you a quick but hard kiss before shutting his truck off and guiding you towards the elevator. Pushing you against the wall as soon as the doors closed mouth molding over yours, hands bracketing you in against the wall. “Mmm.” You hum when his lips start to trail down your jaw. “Someone could walk in.” You remind him head falling back to give him more access. The dinging as you pass each floor prevalent in the background.
“Don’t care.” He growls lifting one of your legs to rest on his hips, fingers moving up your thigh, starting to move your panties to the side when the elevator comes to a stop on his floor. “I don’t think it’s ever moved that fast before.” He joked letting your leg down and grabbing ahold of your hand to pull you towards his apartment before pulling his keys out to unlock it and ushering you inside. “Do you want anything to drink?” He asked casually as he set his keys down slipping off his shoes, ridding your heels in the process you giggled stepping towards him to take the lapels of his jacket in your hands.
“I’m definitely thirsty but not for water.” You winked pulling him back towards your lips, before you pushed the jacket off his shoulders. Beginning to unbutton his dress shirt his hands moved down to your ass, lips breaking from yours long enough for him to whisper,
“Jump.” You let him pick you up, shedding his shirt on the way towards his bedroom.
“You have too many clothes on.” You sighed when he laid you down on the end of his bed tugging the bottom of his shirt. Laughing he stood up to pull it over his head for you.
“You haven’t taken one piece of clothing off and I’m the one that’s wearing too much?” He teased falling back on top of you.
“Lucky for you, you’ll find there’s next to no obstacles once this comes off.” You snapped the strap of your dress. Jay eyes trailed down your body slowly, hands following as he pulled you up to slide the zipper down slowly, lips falling to your collarbone in the process.
“Tell me if this is okay.” He hesitated sliding the straps down.
“It’s okay, Jay.” You voiced helping him pull the tight dress from your body. Face instantly blushing when you looked up to see his eyes wandering all over you, left in only your panties.
“You’re fucking gorgeous.” He complimented hands squeezing your hips.
“Your voice is really sexy when you’re turned on.” You blurted out, causing Jay to laugh.
“Well I can assure you I am in fact very turned on right now.” He grinned nuzzling your neck.
“Can I..?” You asked tugging on the button of his pants popping it open when you felt him nod. He breathed a quiet sigh at the pressure being released when you opened his zipper, pushing them to the ground with his help. He returned back on top of you leaning down to press his mouth to yours, moving slowly to appreciate the action. In no hurry for this to end. Your hand trailed from his chest to his stomach, tip of your finger sneaking under the hem of his boxers. His hips involuntarily bucking at the anticipation, coaxing your mouth open with his tongue. Reaching further down you took a hold of him giving him an experimental squeeze earning a groan against your lips. Beginning to slowly move your hand his forehead fell against yours eyes closing while his hips began to move in rhythm. Swiping your thumb across the tip, gathering the precum that had started to leak out. He watched as you brought it to your mouth, licking it off your finger to enjoy the taste of him. Breath hitching at the sight, seemingly flipping a switch in him as he lunged forward capturing your wrists and forcing them above your head, his lips capturing yours in a bruising kiss. Roughly biting at your lip before moving down your body. Stopping first at your chest. His teeth nipped at the skin, laying soft kisses all over before taking ahold of your left breast tongue swirling around your nipple. Other hand pinching and rolling the right between his fingers. Swallowing a moan your legs opened further letting him slide between them more comfortably. His mouth moved farther south as his fingers gently started to make soft circles to your center outside of your underwear. Sighing your hips moved slightly trying to get more pressure as you felt Jay smile against your hip bone. Teasingly his fingers fumbled with the side of your underwear occasionally swiping his finger inside while his mouth bit and sucked the inside of your thighs no doubt leaving a few marks. “Oh, yeah you’re keeping the beard.” Your fingertips dug into his head, goosebumps rising at the rough feeling of his facial hair against your thighs, jaw tightening, not wanting to make a sound.
“[Y/N] [Y/L/N], are you insinuating we will be doing this again?” He looked up at you, eyebrow raised, cocky smirk on his lips.
“Stop talking.” You ordered, face going a little red.
“If I remember correctly you just said my voice was sexy.” He quipped.
“And if I remember correctly you were in the middle of something.” You pushed his head back down.
“As you wish.” He winked teeth grazing the inside of your thigh as he moved closer and closer to your core. Your legs were starting to shake at the anticipation, your mind picturing your juices covering his mouth and throughout his beard.
“Jay, please.” You actually whined when he laid a kiss on your clit outside of your panties.
“I just wanted to hear you say my name. I can tell you’re trying to hold back, but all I want is to hear you [Y/N]. Helps me figure out the best way to make you feel good.” He admitted hooking his fingers into your panties and slowly sliding them down your legs before tossing them to the floor, “Let me hear you baby. Let me know I’m doing a good job.” He reminded you before his mouth connected to your center, eliciting a moan that you wouldn’t have been able to hold back even if you tried.
“Such a pretty sound, sweetheart.” He commented, before his tongue swirled around your clit, gently sucking it. Head falling back you let yourself give into every sensation. The way his hands pinned your hips down, preventing you from moving. The way his tongue worked you so soft and smooth like he did the research on exactly how your pussy was structured so he could hit every sweet spot imaginable. The way he pushed a finger in slightly curling it up to perfectly hit your g-spot over and over again while his tongue flicked against your clit. The way his stubble burned against your thighs only heightening the realization that this was Jay. Jay Halstead: your co-worker, friend, and apparently now fuck buddy. Your legs started to shake, hips trying their hardest to fight their way out of his grasp, uncontrollable noises flowing from your lips, knot growing tighter with each tap of your sweet spot.
“J-Jay.” You warned, hoping he could hear your voice that was barely there. Your fingers tightening in his hair, the other one moving down to his cheek, thumb rubbing over the roughness.
“Go ahead, sweetheart.” He encouraged fingers moving faster, tongue licking harder. This was Jay Halstead and he was eating you out like no tomorrow, and with that thought your thighs came up to trap his head, back arching as you screamed out the knot inside of you unraveling hard.
Legs falling back apart you released him and Jay made his way back up your body. Kissing you, taste of yourself covering his mouth. “That was beautiful.” He smirked, cupping your cheek.
“That was incredible, how did you even learn how to do that? It’s like you knew my body better than I do.” You laughed still a little light headed.
“Everyone is different. You just have to pay attention to the signs. For example I already know you’re not going to be able to cum from just penetration. Just like you have a hard time cumming from just oral. You need the best of both worlds. I always knew you were high maintenance.” He joked.
“You already have me all figured out.” You rolled your eyes, but. what he was saying was true. You don’t know how he came to the conclusion, but you weren’t about to complain.
“If you want to stop here I completely understand. We don’t-“ He started to say when you cut him off.
“And deprive myself of discovering whether your dick game is as good as your head? No thank you.” You grinned starting to push his boxers down.
“Well I could never live with myself if I left you wondering.” He shrugged, getting up to push the last remaining piece of clothing between you two to the ground before reaching over to fish a condom out of his nightstand. You took a hold of him again, twisting your hand up and down his shaft to make sure he was fully ready. He ripped the condom open with his teeth, rolling it on with your help. “You’re absolutely sure about this?” He asked again, positioning his dick at your entrance.
“Yes, completely.” You nodded.
“Just tell me if you want to stop at any point.” He reiterated, leaning down the rest of the way to kiss you when he started to push in. Groaning you focused on his tongue slipping into your mouth knowing the pain would subside soon, and a few short thrusts later the pleasure started to seep in.
“Ahh fuck.” You moaned relaxing into him.
“That’s my girl.” He smiled feeling the way you loosened more for him still making small movements, knowing there was no way he would be able to go hard right away, but within a few strokes your pussy started to clench him even harder than before. “Baby, you gotta loosen up for me or I’m not gonna be able to move at all without blowing it.” He groaned biting his lip, hips shuttering.
“I’m sorry you just feel so good.” You cried, it wasn’t your fault. Well not really anyway you had a hard time controlling it.
“Okay okay okay.” You closed your eyes, begging yourself to relax when he hit your g-spot for the first time. “Shit!” You cursed nails digging into his shoulder blades. “Right there. Again. Please.” You informed him, but you knew he was already aware as he hit it again before you were finished talking. He took one of your legs positioning it on his shoulder as he bracketed himself above you. Hitting harder this time, earning a loud moan from you. “Jay, faster. Please baby.” You begged.
“You feel incredible [Y/N]. I’m gonna cum so hard. Jay moaned above you.
“Your dick feels amazing babe. I love that I get to make you cum.” You reciprocated attempting to move with him. His thumb moved down to start rubbing circles on your clit in time with his long thrusts. “I h-hope you think a-ahhh-about this every time you - fuck - see me at w-work this week.” You got out between heavy breaths.
“I’m not going to be able to think about a-anything else baby. How f-fucking good you taste. How much I loved being between your legs e-eating you up. How good your pussy feels s-stretched around my cock. Holy fuck [Y/N] I’m so fucking close. Fuck fuck fuck, [Y/N].” He screamed louder with each word, collapsing onto you as he worked through his high, but you were already gone. Pulsating around his dick the minute he reminded you how good he looked between your thighs. Opening your eyes just in time for you to watch his orgasm and to catch your name falling off his lips with a few curse words.
“Is it true?” You asked after a few minutes of silence, heavily breathing being the only sounds that filled the room.
“Is what true?” He replied confused when he started to pull out of you before carefully disposing of the filled condom.
“You’re going to think all that stuff when you look at me this week?” You explained, causing him to chuckle still breathless.
“Maybe not every time, but I’d confidently wager 80% of the time.” He smirked rolling over to kiss you, “unless you don’t want me to?”
“Well it wouldn’t be fair for me to be thinking about it and not give you permission to as well.” You shrugged, knowing full well this wasn’t disappearing from your mind anytime soon. You got up to use the restroom as Jay cleaned himself the rest of the way.
“Is he bigger than me?” Jay asked, when you walked back into the room.
“I am not answering that question.” You laughed loudly laying back down beside him.
“Why not? It’s for research purposes. You know purely for your benefit.” He smirked down at you.
“Oh yeah? How so?” You urged.
“I just gotta know the level of game I have to bring. Should I be more focused on the motion or does the size make up for it?” He gestured south.
“Motion is always more important than size.” You rolled your eyes.
“I don’t think that’s true.” Jay scrunched his eyebrows,“Next time this happens I’ll just use my finger and remind you of what you just said.”
“I said it was more important. I didn’t say it’s not important at all, but I can assure you the level of game you brought tonight is better than I could’ve imagined.” You smiled completely satisfied.
“I totally am.” He decided, wiggling his eyebrows at you.
“So what’s the plan here?” You changed the subject.
“I think that all depends on what you want.” Jay answered.
“Well..I’m not going to deny this was fun and you did say I need to have more fun.” You shrugged sheepishly.
“So then we keep having fun.” Jay said simply.
“But we need ground rules.” You laid your chin on his chest looking up at him.
“Okay..” He looked down at you waiting for you to continue.
“Like I don’t know..is this purely friends with benefits? Do we go out for dinner sometimes? Do I bring you coffee in the morning?” You started to list the things running through your head.
“If you want to bring me coffee and dinner, who am I to tell you no?” He joked causing you to sigh.
“Jay, I’m serious.” You pushed.
“Can’t we just kind of roll with it?” He asked, hand rubbing up and down your back.
“I guess I’m just scared of what will happen if they find out.” You admitted.
“So what if they do?” He seemed unfazed.
“You’re not concerned at all how Hailey would react?” You asked.
“I like her. I really do. That’s not a secret, but she’s sleeping with Adam. Why should we have to wait around and agonize over it? You deserve to be just as happy as he does [Y/N].” He tucked a piece of your hair behind your ear.
“What if this turns into some fanfiction shit where we end up having feelings for each other?” You giggled.
“Well then I hope the author writes us a happy ending.” He smiled kissing you on the forehead. “Now I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty tired after that performance.” He yawned. You agreed, waiting for him to slide further down into his bed before pulling you back into his side, your head falling back down on his chest.
“Promise me you’re not going to freak out in the morning.” He whispered kissing the top of your head after a few minutes of silence.
“I promise.” You replied kissing his chest before letting his heartbeat lull you to sleep.
Waking up the next morning you felt the heat before your eyes even opened. Quickly registering that you were laying on someone. Slowly opening your eyes you looked around the semi dark room, black out curtains trying to reduce the amount of light peeking through. You knew who it was, but you had to confirm it. Gently sitting up you were met with Jay’s figure still sleeping beside you. Oh shit. You started to panic, memories of the night before suddenly flooding your mind. Remembering the things you did, the things you said. Eyes darting around the room you started to contemplate an escape. You’d sneak out and pretend like this never happened. That’s probably what Jay would want you to do anyway and-
“Lay back down and stop freaking out.” Jay grumbled beside you, eyes still closed. You reached for the sheet to cover your still bare body.
“How did you even-“ You began to ask causing Jay to smirk.
“I’m a detective for a reason, [Y/L/N]. Come back to sleep.” He urged pulling you back into his chest.
“It’s probably just a better idea if I leave.” You sat back up causing him to sigh heavily.
“You promised me you weren’t going to freak out.” Jay reminded you.
“I’m not freaking out.” You tried to defend, voice squeaking a little.
“Then stop biting your lip.” He challenged. Stopping your actions you looked over to still see his eyes closed.
“Okay seriously how the hell-“ You started
“I know you better than you think.” He opened his eyes to look up at you, dark circles obvious under them reminding you of late the two of you were up last night a blush covering your cheeks at the thought. “What’s going on, what are you thinking about at 6:30 in the morning?” He asked, looking at you like you were crazy after seeing the time on his alarm clock.
“I don’t know.” You shrugged looking away from him.
“C’mon talk to me.” He pushed sitting up to face you where you clung tight to the sheet that was also still covering him up to his hips.
“I just said a lot of stuff last night that’s kinda embarrassing looking back on it now.” You admitted remembering distinctly how you encouraged him to fuck you.
“Like?” He urged making you groan.
“I am not answering that.” You shook your head looking around the room for any piece of clothing.
“I can’t think of a single thing that didn’t sound incredible coming out of your mouth.” He shrugged just as you found a shirt slipping it on before realizing it was his.
“It’s probably just a good idea for me to leave.” You sighed contemplating what to do.
“We’ve gotten like 3 hours of sleep. Please lay back down.” He looked at you with puppy dog eyes.
“Jay.” You sighed running a hand down your face.
“Just come back to bed and let me cook you breakfast later. Then if you want to leave you can.” He bargained, voice still raspy from lack of sleep. Your mind was all over the place. You did want to be here, and last night was great and you’d be lying if you said you weren’t hoping for a morning encore. That’s what friends with benefits were for right? But how would this end? You just didn’t want to get hurt again somehow, but maybe that was just something you had to risk.
“Only if you make French toast.” You reasoned making him grin.
“That can be arranged.” He lifted his arms to pull you back to his chest.
“Your voice is sexy in the morning too.” You whispered after a few minutes, hoping he was asleep already.
“I think it’s a little worn out from all the sounds you had me making last night.” He retorted making you giggle.

Aftermath
Jay Halstead
Tumblr media
Pairing: Jay Halstead x Sister!Reader
Description: People always tend to forget about the aftermath.
Words: 2,122
Requested: yes by anonymous; second, if it's ok i wanted to request a part two to the imagine? i was wondering if you could just explore the aftermath of her assault, as she continues to heal and accept what's happened to her. by this i mean experiencing ptsd and having nightmares, flashbacks and dealing with certain triggers. also, maybe she could still sometimes turn to substances as many survivors do, and just break down sometimes. obviously since it's a halstead sister fic and i love the support system in the last story, i'd love to see jay helping her through everything and being super protective + some scenes with the rest of intelligence? but it's obviously up to you. thank you so much <3
Warnings: mention of drinking, sexual assault, drugs, language, PTSD, Jay Halstead and all of Intelligence being the best.
A/N: This is the long awaited part two to Infliction, and by long-awaited I mean like a month later. I tried to make the end light hearted because it seemed like a good way to go. I apologize in advance for any grammatical errors.
It had been a few weeks since the party and things were beginning to look up. You and Brayden started hanging out more and it was safe to say the two of you were on your way to becoming best friends. The group of guys had all been arrested and sent far away from you. You, Jay, and Will have been having more frequent family movie nights instead of them heading out to Molly's every free night they got. Intelligence had basically adopted you as one of their own and even went out of their way to hang out with you. Kim and Hailey had girls nights away from the ever-annoying guys they work with. Adam and Kevin practically chauffeured you to hangouts with Brayden and took you out to your favorite diner on the weekends. Even Hank had called you once in a while as a check-in and to keep you informed about your case. Overall things seemed to be getting better for you.
Except for one little detail. Your PTSD was hitting you like a truck. Of course, the only person who even remotely knew what was happening was Brayden because he was the one person you spent most of your time with. Thankfully he was there to help ground you and calm you down when it all became too much for you. This wasn't sudden, it's been building up since it happened and clearly you needed to work on accepting it rather than shoving it all down. That's one thing you and Jay had in common, the two of you always had trouble addressing your problems no matter how big they became.
Currently, you were laying in bed and staring up at your ceiling that Jay had covered in stars for you. If there was one thing about you is that you still are a child at heart. You had been shocked awake by your recurring nightmare. It always followed the same premise of the night of the party but every night there were either different people, points of view, or different actions you took that still led you to the same outcome. There were dried tears staining your cheeks that you hadn't bothered to wipe away and every few moments there would be a soft sniffle to break the eerie silence.
Having enough of staring up at your ceiling you let out a low huff and pushed yourself up to a sitting position. You turned to the side and looked at the clock resting on your nightstand. The clock read 4:19 AM which was clearly too early for you to be up but too late for you to try and go back to sleep before Jay's rustling while getting ready would wake you up. Reaching over to open the drawer in your nightstand you checked the small bottle hidden under the glasses case that held your blue light ones. It was three-quarters full of vodka you had inconspicuously stolen from Jay's cabinet. You kept promising yourself that you wouldn't drink anymore, but clearly, that wasn't really panning out in your favor. Sure you would have a swig or two before braving yourself and heading off to school but it was to take the edge off, not to get drunk.
If Jay were to check through your drawer he'd probably think otherwise. You had stopped with the pills since he had found you, but what he doesn't know won't hurt him so you continued to drink. Obviously, it wasn't a lot and definitely not enough to get you drunk off your ass. You just wanted to be buzzed enough to have the courage to walk into your dreaded school every morning and deal with the numerous triggers you kept on discovering.
Eventually, it was time for you actually start getting ready for school. Jay had already left for work a while ago, leaving a kiss on your head before stepping out the door. You pulled on a random outfit that was comfortable and your usual pair of shoes before throwing your backpack over your shoulder and walked downstairs. Deciding against your worst judgment you made the choice to brave the day without the buzz of alcohol. Waiting at the front entrance of your building was Brayden. Like every morning the two of you would walk to school together if Jay had to go into the district early. If Jay only had paperwork that day he would drive the two of you to school instead, but that didn't happen very often.
The two of you walked to school silently, only exchanging a few words of greeting. Once you had made it to the large building you both had to split up for your classes. The day went on like usual, boring teachers droning on about upcoming assignments and tests. Lunch had arrived after what seemed like forever and you sat at an empty table practically half asleep. You held your head in your hand as you kept your eyes from slipping shut at the exhaustion.
"You not feeling too hot there?" One of your classmates from English asked as he passed by.
You froze at the familiar words before shaking yourself out of the memory.
"Fine, just tired." You brushed off their comment as he nodded with an understanding smile before continuing to his table.
Moments later the door opened and you picked your head up reluctantly. It was a few guys on the football team.
"You not feeling too hot there?" One of the seniors asked you.
You simply shook your head which only worsened the pain in it. The boys walked a few steps closer before placing their hands on your shoulders. They shoved you back onto the bed and immediately your body began to react.
You kicked and punched aimlessly to get them off of you but your movements were uncoordinated and your mind was foggy. There were too many of them and they began to overpower you, their hands wandering to unwanted places.
“Y/N?” Brayden’s voice pulled you out of the flashback.
“Huh?” Your teary eyes darted around his face before focusing on his concerned expression.
“Let’s head to the library, all right?” Brayden suggested already standing up from his seat across from you.
You nodded silently before hiking your bag over your shoulder and walked to the library beside him. Luckily at your school, they were lenient enough to let you head to the library during lunch. Usually, the kids didn’t take advantage of it but it was an unspoken spot of peace for you and Brayden.
The two of you sat at a table near the back and Brayden pulled a chair up beside you.
“Want to talk about what happened back at lunch?” Brayden asked softly.
You bit your lip in contemplation. This had been happening for weeks and every time you’d shake your head and change the subject. But the fact was it wasn’t getting better and you just needed to tell somebody that you weren’t okay. A few tears slipped out of your eyes which led to quiet sobs escaping from your lips. Brayden offered you a hug with outstretched arms, making sure to check if you were okay with it. You leaned forward into his embrace and squeezed his waist tightly. He held you there while rubbing soothing circles on your back until your cries stopped. You lifted your head off his chest and wiped away the remained tears on your cheeks before speaking up.
“Uh, flashbacks. I’ve been getting them for a while. I thought they’d go away, but they haven’t.” You explained with a sigh, avoiding his gaze and instead taking interest in your hands.
“Okay first, if they happen again tell me, or pull on my sleeve and I’ll get you somewhere quiet. Got it?” Brayden bent his head to try and get into your eye line.
You nodded your head with a hum before he spoke up again, “since they haven’t gone away maybe you should talk to someone. Preferably a professional, but if you’re only comfortable telling me then I’m all ears. Although, I’m not sure that I can cure you with magic, wish I could though.” Brayden tried to lighten the mood with his magic comment.
“Thanks, Brayden. Jay actually has been bugging me about seeing a therapist. Said it helped him with his PTSD, I think I might take him up on it.” You looked up at the boy with pursed lips.
“That’s good. Just know we’re not trying to force you into anything, we just want you to feel better however long that may take.” Brayden gave you a soft smile.
“You are wise beyond your years, you know that?” You smiled back with a small laugh.
“I try, I try.” Brayden shrugged nonchalantly.
“Can you come with me to the district after school?” You asked cautiously.
“Of course, not like I’d rather do my homework.” Brayden laughed.
“And there’s the Brayden I know.” You smiled widely.
Soon enough you and Brayden had been making your way to the twenty-first district to talk with Jay and probably the rest of Intelligence. The air was lighter between the two of you once you had finally started to open up. Of course, you hadn’t spilled everything but the little you had told him made the weight on your shoulders lessen slightly.
“Ah, baby Halstead and company, what brings you here?” Trudy greeted from the front desk with a tight-lipped smile. Even if she didn’t want to admit it, she had a soft spot for you.
“Can you ring us upstairs? I need to talk with Jay.” You asked.
“You’re lucky they haven’t caught a case today.” Trudy walked out from behind her desk and led you and Brayden upstairs.
“Thank you, Trudy.” You smiled and followed the woman.
“I have a special delivery for Detective Chuckles.” Trudy spoke up once the three of you reached the top of the steps.
Jay’s head snapped up from his desk with a look of confusion when his eyes landed on you. He quickly stood up and scanned you over for anything.
“What happened, are you all right?” Jay cupped your cheek in concern before sparing a glance at Brayden for any sign of something bad.
“I’m okay, I just needed to talk to you.” You reassured him.
“All right. You wanna head into the kitchen?” Jay asked.
“No, we could talk at your desk. They’re all gonna find out anyway.” You gestured to the rest of the unit who was watching the two of you intently.
Jay nodded his head and led you to his desk. You reached out and held onto Brayden’s arm as you pulled him along to take a seat and sit beside you. Of course, at this, the entire unit had gathered around with concerned faces once you started to explain to them. Jay’s expression was held with soft eyes as he listened to you agree with wanting to try therapy and asking for help.
Once you were done Jay stood up and placed a kiss on the top of your head before whispering into your hair, “I’m proud of you.” Jay pulled away to give you a warm smile.
“All right come here you little muffin.” Kim held out her arms with a smile.
You stepped forward into her embrace as she squeezed you tightly, she rocked the two of you from side to side eliciting a small giggle out of you. Hailey joined the hug with a laugh once Kim pulled her by the arm.
Antonio placed a hand on your shoulder once you, Hailey, and Kim pulled away, “I’m proud of you, kiddo.” He offered you a kind nod.
“So proud.” Kevin gave you one of his signature bear hugs.
“Okay, it’s my turn.” Adam squeezed his way to stand in front of you. Which caused everyone to laugh at his eagerness.
“I could never forget about you, Ruz.” You wrapped your arms around his shoulders as he lifted your toes off the ground.
“Are we done yet? You guys are treating my sister like an attraction.” Jay sassed.
“You’re just mad that you only got to kiss me on the head and not a hug.” You retorted from leaning back into Brayden with a smirk.
“No, not true.” Jay shook his head with furrowed brows.
“Yup, totally jealous.” You nodded convinced.
“How did we go from a serious topic to Halstead and mini Halstead having a sarcasm battle?” Adam questioned with a confused expression.
“I learned to stop questioning it.” Brayden shrugged from behind you.
“It’s how we cope. Halstead thing, I guess.” You said with raised brows.
“Fair enough.” Jay sighed.

"Hey. Where are you going?" Jay asked me sleepily as he noticed me getting ready.
"I've got to get home and shower and stuff," I reply and continue throwing my clothes on.
"I have a shower, and you have clothes here," Jay pointed out.
"I know, but my landlord is on my ass for never being there. Something about me wasting the space," I murmur.
"So then move in with me," Jay spoke. I froze in place for a few seconds, my mind running a mile a minute. I then turned around to face my boyfriend, who was still laying in bed.
"Really?" I question.
Jay nodded, a small smile lighting up his face. "I mean, if you want to. We've been dating for almost 8 months now, and I don't see my feelings for you changing any time soon."
I grinned widely and climbed back onto the bed so that I was laying on top of Jay, and leaned down to press a kiss to his lips. "I would love to move in with you. But you do know that because we're moving in together, we're gonna have to tell the unit that we're dating, right?"
"Give me a few days to prepare, and then we can tell them," Jay said.
"Okay. Now, I really do have to go if I'm going to make it to work on time. See you later," I tell him and peck his lips one last time before taking off. At my apartment, I took a quick shower and threw on some new clothes, barely making it out of the door in time to get to the district. After parking my car, I walked into the station and up the stairs, putting my hair into a ponytail as I did. When I got to the bullpen, I was surprised to see only Hailey and Kim sitting at their desks. "Morning, guys," I greet the two women. "Where are the guys?"
"I think I heard Adam say something about a donut run," Kim mentioned.
"Gotcha," I chirp and make my way over to my desk. Kim and Hailey both glanced at each other, confusion settling onto their faces. "What?"
"The past few months, you've been acting different. A good different, but different," Hailey noted.
"Yeah. You're always so cheerful in the mornings when the rest of us are miserable. So spill it. Who's the guy?" Kim quizzed.
I choked on the water I was drinking and coughed a few times to clear my throat, glancing up at my two co-workers. "What do you mean?"
"A girl only acts like you do when there's an amazing guy in her life," Kim answered. "So tell us who it is?"
"I never said...how'd you...shut up," I stammer, a slight blush rising to my cheeks.
"So there is a guy," Hailey stated. "When do we get to find out who it is?"
"Uh, give me a few days to get back to you on that," I confess and turn my attention back to the paperwork spread across my desk. At that moment, Adam, Jay, and Kevin walked up the stairs, their arms all filled with goodies and drinks.
"Hey guys. What's going on up here?" Kevin asked as he set down a box of donuts.
"We were just trying to get Y/N to tell us who see's seeing," Kim responded. My eyes darted to Jay, and I could tell that he was trying not to smile as he passed out coffees.
"Hold up," Adam interjected. "Y/N's got a boyfriend? Why am I just hearing about this now? Who is it?"
I groaned and set down my pen. "We're not talking about this right now. And I know you've all got paperwork to finish up, so you better get it done before Voight gets here in 10 minutes." The conversation stopped after that, but I knew the issue would eventually come back up, and at one point I'd have to talk about it. It just wouldn't be today
Time-skip Two Days
I was sitting in the interrogation room with files spread out all over the table, my hands occasionally moving the files around so that I could get a better view of certain ones. Lets just say that I was behind on paperwork, and I needed to get everything done before the end of shift. And being in here gave me more space than my desk did. I was just a little over a quarter of the way done when Kim and Hailey entered the room, taking up the two seats across from me.
"Uh, can I help you guys?" I question and sign another piece of paper, sticking it into a file to signify that it was completed.
"We'll be asking the questions here," Hailey cut in and folded her hands in front of her.
"Yeah. This is an official interrogation," Kim added.
I huffed. "Guys, if you couldn't tell, I've got a lot on my plate right now. And just because we're in the interrogation room does not make this an official interrogation. I could walk out of here right now if I wanted to."
"Who's the mystery man? Just tell us," Hailey pleaded.
"Hailey, Kim, I love you both. You're like sisters to me. But this," I exclaim and gesture to what was going on, "is insane."
"Y/N," Kim groaned and reached over to grab onto my arm. "Just tell us who the guy is! We want to know who's making you happy!"
I sighed and set down my pen. "So if I give you both some answers, you'll stop bugging me?"
"Yes," Hailey and Kim answered at the same time.
"Okay then. I won't tell you his name, but I will let you both ask some questions. But be aware that I'm only going to answer vaguely," I warn.
"Yes!" Kim cheered. "Okay. How long have the two of you been together?"
"8 months," I reply. "We're actually thinking about moving in together."
Hailey smiled. "That's amazing. Where does this mystery man work?"
"He's also a first responder," I respond.
"Wait a minute. Do we know him?" Kim quizzed.
"Maybe," I say and stand up, gathering my files as I did. "That's all for questions. Talk to you guys later!" And with that, I sped out of the interrogation room to get away from my two best friends. That night, back at Jay's apartment, the two of us were sitting in the living room eating pizza, a movie playing on the TV.
"Hey. You ever get that paperwork done today?" Jay asked and took a bite of pizza.
I shook my head. "Kim and Hailey wouldn't stop bugging me about the mystery man I was seeing."
Jay chuckled softly. "Well, I'm ready to tell everyone whenever you are."
"Right. Whenever I'm ready," I murmur.
Three Nights Later...
Our case was finally over, and all I wanted was a night off. So, everyone decided to go to Molly's to celebrate and let loose for a bit. Hailey, Kim, and I were sitting at the bar, drinks in front of all of us. I was sipping my beer lightly, waiting for Jay to arrive. I had told Kim and Hailey that my mystery man would be at Molly's tonight, so both of them were on the edge of their seats.
"Would you both settle down? He'll be here shortly," I tell him and take another sip of beer.
"We're just excited," Kim spoke. "You've been dating this guy for 8 months and haven't said a word, so he must be one hell of a guy."
"Oh, believe me, he is," I declare. Just then, the door to Molly's opened, and Jay stepped into the bar, immediately making eye contact with me.
"Jay! Over here!" Hailey called out and waved him over to the three of us. Jay made his way through the crowd to get to us, and as soon as he was close enough, I hopped off of my bar stool, grabbed him by the shirt, and brought his lips down to mine. I could feel Jay smile against my lips as he kissed back, his hands automatically gravitating to my waist. The kiss only lasted for a few seconds, but as soon as we pulled apart, I saw the shock etched onto my friends' faces. "Hold on a minute. My partner, the guy I've been working with for like 2 years now, is the mysterious man you've been dating for 8 months?"
"Surprise," I chirp and lean back against Jay's chest.
"I don't even know what to say," Kim confessed. "How did we not know the two of you were together?"
"We're just great at hiding it," Jay answered and gave my hand a small squeeze. "I'm gonna find the guys, okay? It's only fair that they know now too."
"Okay. We'll be over there in a few minutes," I say. Jay nodded and pecked my lips quickly before heading off to find Kevin and Adam amongst the crowd.
"So? What do you guys think?" I ask.
Hailey smiled. "You guys seem happy together, so I'm happy for you. Even if you did hide this from us for months.
"Yeah," Kim agreed. "We're just glad that you're happy."
"You guys are the best," I exclaim and finish the rest of my beer. "All right, next drinks are on me. It's the least I can do for making you two wait this long to find out who my boyfriend is. But, Hailey, I think the real question here is, 'What's going on between Kim and Adam?'"
Kim's face flushed a deep shade of red, and she gulped down the last of her beer. "Herrmann, we need some more drinks over here!"
"Oh, you're not getting away that easy. Y/N and I will hound you until you tell us everything," Hailey claimed. "But you're lucky that we just found out about Y/N and Jay, because right now, that's all I want to hear about. So Y/N, tell us everything."
I let out a mix between a sigh and a groan. "Okay. I guess we'll start out with our first kiss."

Hostage | Part 1
Summary: Y/N is a Firefighter at Firehouse 51, they get taken hostage inside the Firehouse with Casey's niece, Violet.
Fandom: Chicago Fire / Chicago PD / Chicago Med
Characters: Reader x Kelly Severide, Firehouse 51, Chicago Med, Jay Halstead, Hailey Upton
Warnings: Swearing, violence, injury
Word Count: 4575
It’s a crisp November morning in Chicago, Engine 51 is parked out front ready for the second shift. Plumes of water vapour dance in the sky as the surrounding neighbourhood tries to stay warm.
Squad 3, Truck 81, and Ambulance 61 are tucked away from the chill inside the garage, items for breakfast are waiting and ready to be cooked, members of Firehouse 51 sit intently listening to Chief’s briefing for the day. You’re not one to shirk focus when listening to the Chief, but Kelly’s thumb rubbing the back of your hand as you sit next to him is a comforting and welcome distraction.
You had been struggling to catch a good night’s rest lately, following a particularly difficult call involving two sisters who had got themselves trapped in the inferno of their burning bridal shop; it was a family business, only survived by their father and their uncle. You couldn’t get to them in time, despite a most relentless effort, the blaze had reached flashover point, Chief wasn’t giving you a second longer; Casey and Stella had been given the go ahead to pull your ass out of there.
The memory of the two women being in your reach but not close enough had haunted you, their burnt bodies were a jarring sight, no matter how many times you had seen such a scenario. You had spoken to the Chaplain about your grief and you were getting better at dealing with it, but the nightmares were still lingering.
Accompanying your grief was a nagging feeling that something wasn’t quite right with the whole situation, OFI had been given the case report to make their own determination; as much as it looked like a simple accident, you couldn’t shake the feeling there was more to it. You knew grief came in all shapes and forms, but those brothers didn’t seem too phased by the death of their daughters and nieces respectively. Kelly’s hand squeezes yours gently, pulling you out of your reverie, you glance at him with a soft smile. You don’t know how you got so lucky to have him in your life, but you were always counting such a blessing. He returns the smile with a fondness, eyes twinkling as he turns back to focus on Chief, warm hand still clasped with yours.
“Oh, one more thing… There will be a service check on the washer and dryer this afternoon, so please make sure you’ve got enough uniform before that is done, or speak to Connie if you think there’s gonna be a problem… and I think that’s everything, let’s have a good one, Fifty-One. Dismissed.”
With a nod from Chief Boden everyone begins to arise from their seats.
Kelly releases your hand gently, standing up as he rubs your back, “Okay?” He asks, gaze focused on you with concern. “I’m good, just got a bit lost there for a second… but I’m back, all good.” You’re being genuine when you say those words, it’s no secret that it’s been hard on you, but you are definitely getting there and you know you’ll be fine with Kelly and the rest of 51 by your side.
The briefing room files out to go about their business before their next call, Kelly kisses your cheek as he parts to go talk to Squad about some planned drills, you caress his forearm as he parts from you, loving him so much. You’d be okay, you knew it.
… It takes a small jog to catch up with Matt who’s about to head off to squeeze in a washing load before the machines are out of action. “Captain, are we still on for this morning? I’m all set to show Violet the ropes with Stella and Sylvie.” Matt nods with a smile, “We are, Violet texted me, she’s on her way with her mom. ETA 10 minutes or so. Thanks again for doing this, Y/N. I really appreciate it, and I know Violet does too.” “It’s no problem, boss. Happy to help out a future firefighter.” You grin, excited that Stella’s Girls On Fire initiative had become so popular with the local girls in your ward; Violet in particular was eager to come to a working Firehouse and see how things were run.
It only made sense that it would be her Uncle Matt’s firehouse; Stella of course was more than thrilled to offer up a day with 51, and Brett had offered her services to demonstrate the medical aid side of things. “You’ll make a good Academy Instructor yet, Y/N.” Matt pats you on the shoulder,
“I’ll catch up with you later, I’ve got some laundry and paperwork that needs clearing up.” “Of course, Captain, see you in a bit.”
Matt’s kindness and belief in your abilities as a member of Truck had done wonders for your confidence lately, he was a firm but encouraging influence. It was a no brainer why he was such an adored captain.
You’re laying out some ladders, dummies and ropes ready for various activities as you hear a chipper voice from the other side of the apparatus floor, “Y/N!” Violet’s waving off her mom as she turns to you with an excited grin, she greets Kelly and the rest of Squad as she walks past their drill area with her duffle. “Hey you, all good to go?” Violet nods with a cheeky salute which makes you chuckle, “Brilliant, Junior Candidate, we’ll be getting started shortly, Stella’s just wrapping some things up with Herrmann, and your Uncle Matt will be out in a bit too… in the meantime why don’t we set your stuff down and get you familiarised with some equipment?” “Sounds great, I’m so excited. Thanks, Y/N. You and Stella are the best.”
You’re in the middle of showing Violet how to effectively wrap a rescue rope around a civilian dummy when you catch sight of two people approaching, a lingering glance makes your stomach churn as you realise who it is. The brothers from that fire. They instinctively activated your fight response, but before you could get a word out your worst fears were confirmed. Guns were produced from the back of their jeans, aimed right at you and Violet - the younger girl letting out a small yelp as you moved immediately to shield her.
You had been hidden from the others by one of the trucks, nobody else had seen the two men approach. Violet’s yelp catches the attention of Kelly, Capp, Joe and Tony who are just in earshot but it all happens so fast. The two intruders yank you and Violet front and centre into Squad’s eyeline, each of them standing with fists clenched, wanting desperately to approach and disarm, pushed back by the threat of guns aimed right at them. Kelly’s stomach drops, he knows you’re brave and tough, he wouldn’t even bat an eyelid going on a call with you, but this… this was different. He can feel the blood boiling within, knowing immediately that your funny feeling about these men had been correct all along. “Nobody does anything that I don’t tell them to do! Is that clear?!” The older of the two barks, his grip on the back of your neck and in your hair is unbearably tight, and the sight of the other holding onto Violet’s wrists makes you want to spit in their faces and yank her free.
A door opens to the left, your stomach flips in panic, willing nobody else to be dragged into this… It’s Stella. “Alriiight! Let’s get this party started Junior Candi-” Stella’s words die in her throat as she sees the scene before her, her eyes widen as her movement snaps your captor into action; you feel yourself snatched further away from your friends as guns are placed to yours and Violet’s temples. You try to slow your breathing, but you can’t help the trembling that vibrates through your body, feeling so sorry for Violet who has been brought into this. “Get inside. Move! Or I blow their fucking brains out!” The guns are pushed harder into you both, and you close your eyes for a moment, trying to regain composure. Kelly and the rest of the apparatus floor are forced to hustle back into the Firehouse, immediately turning back to look at the situation through the glass panels of the doors.
“Get the Chief, now! And call someone from Intelligence!” Kelly snaps, eyes never leaving yours, which is equal parts reassuring and agonising when all you want to do is be free from this nightmare and in his arms, back to having a normal day. You watch as Stella speaks on the phone, she catches your gaze and tries to smile to comfort you, but you can see the guilt and the terror on her face. You want so badly to reassure her that this can be in no way her fault; she couldn’t have known this would happen. The commotion and Kelly’s yelling finally gets the others to see what the hell is going on, a smattering of gasps and curses break out as the scene plays out before them, everybody recognising the two captors immediately.
“Son of a bitch. These heartless, VILE-.” Herrmann huffs, ready to march through the doors and give them a piece of his mind, shaking his head in utter disbelief, he can’t stand to see you and Violet like this. Mouch stops him in his tracks, squeezing his shoulder, worry written all over his face too but not wanting Christopher to get into a situation that was already in quick escalation.
Casey arrives from the back of the firehouse, his stomach plummeting at the sight he’s greeted with, adrenaline surging through his mind as he watches on, “What is this about? We can help!” Casey yells even though he knows exactly what this is about…
Your words on Casey’s report had pushed for OFI to investigate the Bridal Shop Fire as an arson, your statement had clearly backfired their plan to palm this off as an accident and claim insurance. Casey also had a hunch that the two men had never anticipated that the sisters would go back into the inferno to try and save their livelihood. Somehow these two animals had made it 51’s fault. Casey bit his cheek, wanting to let rip and cuss them out just like Herrmann wanted, but he knew he’d make it worse for you and Violet. “You’re going to learn what it’s like to be helpless as you watch people you love get hurt. And you’re going to watch as it becomes too late to do anything about it!” The words are insincere, their upset over the two dead women is sickeningly fake, the loss of a payout their only true tragedy.
That thought is startlingly interrupted when they see the butt of a gun colliding at full force into you. Agony explodes throughout your face, a sickening crunch in your nose makes you wail, blood instantly pouring from your nose, skin tightening by the second as it begins to swell and bruise, you stagger where you stand, your captor yanking your hair again which sets all of your nerves on edge. You feel your shirt becoming sodden with blood, a rusty iron stench quickly surrounding you. The gang all yell in anger and anguish, Kelly and Casey pounding their fists on the strips of window, Brett and Stella feeling equal parts horrified and pissed off, even Tuesday is barking relentlessly. Violet yells your name in horror, and your instinct to protect her is unwavering,
“It’s okay, honey. We’ll be okay.” Squeezing out a pained smile, trying to ignore the dizziness and nausea that rolls through you.
Violet nods, trying to keep her whimpers to a minimum, not wanting to draw anymore attention to you both. “Shut the fuck up, enough talking! You’re going to fucking do as you’re told until we can make them understand that this bullshit investigation is going to be dropped.”
You’re gasping for air, blood dripping into your mouth which makes you splutter. You fight hard to stay upright, the urge to argue back and plead crosses your mind, but it’s clear they’re not going to listen right now.
You glance in the direction of the doors, watching all of your friends, your family, looking so distraught, wishing this wasn’t happening. __
It had felt like hours since this whole nightmare had begun, but in reality it was minutes.
Capp comes back with an angry and tense Chief who is on his radio to Main, requesting Police assistance immediately, with the added stipulation that Intelligence be informed.
The dispatcher repeats the situation back to the Chief to confirm the situation, and then more terse chatter over the radio to confirm that 51 is removed from service until further notice.
His eyes land on the scene, jaw clenched as he sees you and Violet in the iron grip of the two men. He casts a look of fire and fury at the brothers, moving to give an abrupt knock on the doors to get their attention...
“Hey! This is my Firehouse, and those are our people. You are making a very very big mistake, whatever problem you need solving, it will not be solved like this!” Chief shouts, standing ramrod straight, hands on his hips as usual, authority oozing off him in waves.
But the brothers are on a high of rage and greed, fuelling each other’s aggravated actions.
“Get me someone who will do as they're told!” The second brother barks, yanking Violet by her hair, gun now digging into her stomach, making her squirm and squeal; a slight pang of panic ripples through your gut.
“Hey! Hey! Just take it out on me, she has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with this. You hear me? Leave her be!” You can’t stand to see Matt’s niece so scared and vulnerable, someone so bright and fearless in her everyday life. Your speech is garbled from the thick buildup of saliva and blood in your mouth, but you let your adrenaline carry your voice.
His malice turns towards you, punching you in the ribs. One, two, three times, knocking the air from you as you double over, your whole world seems to fizz into a blur. He growls into your ear, hot and stagnant alcoholic breath making your eyes water, “You like it rough, huh? We can make damn sure it’s you that gets it all, baby! Now shut these fucking garage doors, this is my show!” He spits at you, making you gag as you glare at him... as best you can with a smashed up face.
__
Everyone is vibrating with tension, Matt and Kelly are pacing like caged lions, wishing they could throttle the life out of these two pieces of shit. “I’ll fucking kill them.” Kelly mutters, hands on his head in frustration. “They’re never going to see daylight again after this. Never.” Matt huffs through his nose, Mouch, Herrmann and Joe watching on, feeling helpless.
Words float in your head, “Shut these fucking garage doors!” It takes you a moment to register that you had just been spoken to, long enough that the leader is about to join in on his brother’s beating and hit you again, you hold your hands up in a silent “Wait a second.” Gathering energy to upright yourself and speak. “We-we have to go over here then, that’s where the door panel is.”
You point shakily towards the panel on the other side of the apparatus floor, your legs feel like a newborn fowl’s as you stumble towards the switches, the two monsters keeping their hold on you and Violet as you move.
You’re dragged out of view by the two invaders, waving their guns at any Firehouse members that happened to be outside of the main building when all of this began, forcing them back outside and away. The doors are engaged and begin to slide down, cutting Firehouse 51 off from the outside world, casting an even darker shadow over the day.
“P.D. are 3 minutes out, Halstead and Upton are coming too.” Chief informs the group, squeezing both Kelly and Matt’s shoulders, everyone trying to get a better angle on where the girls have been taken.
Chief Boden exhales, trying to centre his thoughts and do what needs to be done to take command of the situation, he gets the attention of the group... “We have to do our best to stay calm, and make certain this situation can end with no further damage...Brett, Kidd, I want you to let Med know about our situation, and tell them to expect us at some point.” “Yes chief.” The two busy themselves with something they can actually do, gathering up any supplies they might need to treat you and Violet.
Maggie’s face is etched with worry as she reads the alert from Firehouse 51, springing into action to be ready on Med’s end.
“Ethan! I’ll be needing you, so standby. Firehouse 51 has a situation that’s ongoing. Let Connor know there’s potential incoming trauma, we have to be ready for the worst. They’ve got Y/N, Ethan. Matt Casey’s niece too.” “You got it Maggie, I’ll get us prepared… April-!” He moves off with speed to apprise his nurse of the situation and Connor too. Will glances over at Maggie from a computer station, tuned in to what the Charge Nurse had just said... “Maggie, did I hear you right? Y/N? And Casey’s niece?” Maggie touches Will’s arm gently, “Yeah… P.D are on their way over there, so’s Jay and Hailey… They’ve got the best going to help them, Will. We’ll be ready here too.”
Will nods, eyes narrowed in concern for you and Violet, squeezing Maggie’s shoulder in appreciation for the reassurance.
“Thanks, Mags.”
You had made good friends at Med, including Will. Between him and meeting Will’s brother, and his friends, in the process, you had formed a small community around you that you cherished so deeply - and they cherished you in return.
You zone out as the doors hit the floor and stop moving, you’re starting to flag on energy, the pain is radiating through you, breathing is a struggle with every sharp stab in your ribs, panting breaths as your nose is beyond being useful. Violet’s tears are silent as they push you both back towards the spot near Squad’s table, making sure that nobody gets the idea that they can try some sort of rescue. The sight of you is a sad one as your friends watch you fight to stay conscious. “It’s gonna be alright, sweetheart. We’re right here, we’ll get you.” Matt calls out to Violet, trying to keep her spirits up and redirect her attention, she can’t stop looking at your fragile and battered body. …
The second brother snarls, “I said-” His words die in his throat, the sound of the sirens are fast approaching, his brother yells out in anger, he points an accusing finger right at Chief with a growl, “You stupid son of a bitch, you were supposed to wait for MY instructions! Calling them was a big mistake, you’re going to live to regret it!” He’s caught in the throes of rage, neither he or his brother had thought much past making a show of kidnapping someone from 51 until the arson case was dropped.
With a venomous roar he fires his gun, the sound is deafening, echoing throughout the garage, vibrating through the doors where everyone stands, they look on in stunned horror… Kelly’s knees feel like jello as he watches you, Matt and Stella holding his arms to keep him steady. The silence is a split second, but it’s piercing, time seems to slow before reality kicks back in with full force. The cries of your name are swimming in your brain as you hit the ground with a sickening smack, blood oozing rapidly from your thigh, soaking your pants, strangled cries of pain escape you… you try and put pressure on it, but it hurts too much, everything hurts too much. You wanted Kelly. Kelly.
Violet scurries forward to hold the wound and apply pressure, leaning all her weight on the wound - like Uncle Matt showed her, squeezing her eyes shut for a moment as you cry out in agony. Matt’s words echo in her ears, she knows that even if it hurts you it’ll save your life. The blood flow slows to a crawl, only ever so slightly seeping through her fingers, nausea circles in her throat but she stays focused, knowing that you need her to be brave. The two brothers are stunned themselves, they weren’t quite sure how they got themselves here, their panic continuing to manifest hysterically…
“I’m warning you now, anybody making a move won’t be making it out alive!” The two men watch you grow weaker by the second, Violet’s covered in your blood, pushing as hard as she can, despite your whimpers of protest, wanting the pain to stop.
The leader of the pair shoves his accomplice to the side to have a stern word, the gunshot was not part of his plan, everything was spiralling way too fast.
… P.D. are pulling into Firehouse 51 as they hear the gunshot, Jay Halstead is already at the glass watching you hit the floor, adrenaline flooding through him, Upton is on the other side of the building, eyes wide at the scene before her - she starts directing other officers into a formation, ready to take down these assholes for good.
Jay's fists are pounding on the garage doors as radios around him light up with chatter of “Shots fired, two hostages, one is a minor, two suspects armed and dangerous! Firefighter down!” Somewhere in your haze of sluggishness you could have sworn you heard Jay’s voice, your good friend Jay Halstead, here to save you. But you couldn’t be sure, everything felt like a dream now, starting to lose sensation of your extremities as Violet kept up her attempts to keep your blood inside you. Herrmann, Mouch, Joe, Capp, Tony, Brett and Stella all move to the side as officers, led by Hailey Upton, pile into the Firehouse’s main building; The Chief stays behind to update the detective on the situation as Kelly and Casey sprint to the other end of the Firehouse and bust through one of the exterior doors, trying to catch Jay up to speed. The two invaders are frazzled by the sudden rush of commotion, turning on each other in an instant. “What are we gonna do, you've messed this all up, you and your stupid whore spawn!” The younger of the two is waving his weapon around, pointing it as his brother now, sweat pouring off of him. His brother is incredulous, taking a swing at his idiot accomplice. “Me? I messed this up? You fucking shot a firefighter, genius!”
… “These knuckleheads are distracted, this is our best chance to wrap up this circus... “ Hailey watches the two brothers tussle, eyeing you and Violet a few metres away. You were eerily still, Violet still steadfastly keeping pressure on you. Upton turns to the waiting members of Firehouse 51, “Be ready, alright? Don’t move until I say we’re clear. Cruz, you think if we cover you you can get those garage doors moving?” “You bet, Detective. Ready when you are.”
He turns back, the conditions are still good for a breach, no more time to lose. [“Jay, you in position?”] [“Good to go, Hailey, we’re ready. Extra Ambos are on standby.”] [“Breach on my count.”]
[“Copy.”] [“1, 2, 3… Breach! Go go go!”] Commotion bursts into the garage, a cacophony of voices fill the air, you’re barely awake but you can recognise Jay and Hailey’s voices instantly. “Chicago P.D. drop your weapons, get on the ground, DO IT NOW!”
“Down! Down on the ground, DO IT!”
The two brothers clatter their guns to the ground, angry gibberish about “Justice” and “What’s theirs” Pushed to the ground as their hands are cuffed behind their backs by officers, the doors slide back up letting light and fresh air back in. You’re tired, so damn tired. You can feel yourself sinking further away when gentle hands are on you, securing your neck in a C-collar, “Hey sweetheart, can you go see Stella and your uncle for me? They’re going to make sure you’re alright. You did amazing Violet, you saved her life.” Violet nods tearfully, turning to Stella and Matt who quickly scoops her into his arms, making sure she’s okay. Violet’s pressure disappears and you’re vaguely aware of it being replaced with an adult’s pressure, gauze packing the wound and being wrapped tight. You can hear Kelly’s voice too, he’s helping Brett. You blink wearily at the vague shapes around you, that familiar warm hand taking yours, stroking again. Instant relief floods through you despite your pain. “K-Kelly... Kel…” You can’t seem to get your words out, sleep is pulling you closer. “Stay with us, baby. It’s over. We’ve got you. You’re incredible, I love you... Just stay awake a little longer, please?” “Y/N, it’s Sylvie...Can you hear me? Just blink if you can.” Brett shine’s a pen light in your eyes, checking for a pupillary response, you blink twice… at least you think you do, that simple act feeling like a shift’s worth of energy in one go. Brett’s assessing your ribs gently to check the extent of the damage, you whimper, everything is so tender, your face is throbbing and your thigh is radiating hot pain throughout your body. “Sorry, I’m so sorry. It’s okay, we’re here. Don’t speak, but try and stay awake for me, okay? I’m going to give you some oxygen and something for the pain, you’re safe.” You can feel Brett finishing assessing your injuries as Kelly, Herrmann and Mouch secure you onto a backboard, as they count and move you you barely react, making everybody’s stomachs drop at just how bad a shape you were in. Kelly looks at Brett, his eyes sad with worry. “She’s lost a lot of blood, we’re going to trauma her to Med. You can come with us if you like. There's a second Ambo waiting for Violet and Matt.” Kelly nods, glancing at Matt who gives him a silent comforting look. “Go. We’ll be right behind you, buddy.”
They’re carrying you to the back of 61, carefully slotting you in and securing you. Herrmann watches Kelly and Brett shut the doors as Stella hops into the driver’s side. He pats the back doors, willing Ambo to fly like a bat out of hell to Med. … The others are left to gather their thoughts and get their things to go to the hospital, Chief rubs a hand over his face, turning to find Jay and Hailey approaching with sympathetic, worried, looks. “Hey Chief, we’re gonna follow you guys to med. I know it’s an awful time, but we’ll need statements from everyone.” “Whatever you need, we know who these guys are, and we’ll all make damn sure to help get them put away where they belong.” The three exchange handshakes and head to their respective cars to get to Med, there was a lot to unpack.
