The Ineffable Ducks

What's with all the ducks in Good Omens that Crowley seems to be inordinately fond of? Turns out, they do have a narrative purpose, they're not just in there as a running joke about Crowley's fondness for the animals of Earth.

They appear in both S1 and S2, and get mentioned in several seemingly random places. Like, really random. There are quite a few in St James Park, where the ducks live, where the international spies also clandestinely meet, where Aziraphale and Crowley meet on several occasions, and where Crowley and Shax have a meeting, exchanging information in S2E1.

Ducks also get referred to here, when Aziraphale suggests they use humans to search and spy out the missing Antichrist, but Crowley insists it will be near impossible because suspicion slides off the boy like water off, what ever water slides off, because he has an automatic defense system.

The he remembers the ducks(!) later in the Bentley when they discuss using their respective networks of highly trained human operatives (Shadwell and the Witchfinder army), and Aziraphale asks if Crowley has a better idea than his. "Ducks!" Crowley suddenly utters.

The ducks that are always there, that you see but don't see, gathering bread crumbs, when any kind of surveillance or secret spy work is being discussed.

Nah, I thought, it couldn't be a sly ref to this famous cartoon by Larson, could it?

Aziraphale and Crowley are always afraid that someone is watching, or listening to everything they do, from both sides. I mean isn't that partly why we got the ending we did in S2, because they have had to be so covert with their communication to each over the centuries they've forgotten how to speak plainly to each other?

Heaven has definitely been watching...

And Hell certainly noticed Crowley's act of kindness in the Edinburgh cemetery, swiftly summoning him to Hell for punishment after his kind deed on behalf of Elspeth.

Then when the duo meet in again 1867 Crowley wonders if "ducks have ears" before declaring they must do - that's how they hear other ducks. So its no surprise that when Crowley asks Aziraphale for holy water that he writes the request on a piece of paper to hide it from those invisible ever-present watchers they know are never far away.

When we come to the start of S2, where Crowley is slouched in St James Park once more, reading the Tadfield Advertiser, and yelling at the Azerbaijani secret agents for feeding the ducks bread. Crumbs, it was alright to do this in the book, and S1, why is wrong now? Has Crowley suddenly become woke and caring for the ducks? Nah.

There's a lot more to it than that. I realized this is the missing Grain offering from my post about altar offerings (see The Altar of Eccles Cakes) in S2. A Grain offering represents a voluntary expression of devotion to God - or the other side you're supposed to be aligned with, in this case.

Shax is part of this scene, discussing the latest news from below, and she mentions some special intel that Hell has received, from their own secret squirrel network. Of course they would meet in St James Park to discuss this, along with all the other spies. While Shax tries to get some intel out of Crowley about what might be going on in Heaven, because she knows he has contact with a certain angel who owns a book shop, Crowley responds by refusing to show any devotion to his former side at this point, and isn't going to give any information away that could be useful. He also doesn't have any intel at this point, anyway, but he's not going to give that away either! Heaven and Hell are toxic, and no one should be going anywhere near them, in his opinion. So stop feeding them that devotional bread!

After Shax asks what they should be feeding the ducks, he eventually says "Frozen Peas. It's good for them, they like it."

The short period of "peas" since they stopped the impending Apocalypse has been enjoyable, and good for Crowley and Aziraphale, but the forced meeting with Beelzebub later that day soon jolts Crowley out of any complacency when they indicate that the "generalized understanding" Crowley thought they had with Heaven and Hell after the body swap to leave them alone, the one Aziraphale-as-Crowley negotiated, while asking for a rubber duck, no less, was looking very shaky and fragile indeed.

And one more random duck ref to discuss.

I was inspired to write this section by lalalunamoth's post calling Muriel a duckling imprinted on Crowley, and of course I did not save it, did I, and a search does not bring it back up again (found it!), so if you're reading this, or know that post, please let me know! I read it, and thought, cute, but nah, then realized that Muriel was sent on a surveillance mission to Whickber St to ascertain the truth of Aziraphale's 25 lazurii miracle. And she did act as the eyes of Heaven, writing up some reports, called Crowley "grice," then followed him around during his escapade in Heaven just like a duckling following a grumpy gander drake while he did his own surveillance measures in a Tactical Turtle neck, channeling his best imitation Sean Connery voice (have you noticed that as well, people?)

No, no, the op wasn't wrong - those big cross ducks, er grice geese, they make good guard dogs, no?

With special mention to Crowley acting as a surveillance duck just prior to this, and Mr Brown doing his own "spying out" of Aziraphale.

To finish this meta, there is one other figure who notably offered the ducks bread, in the book. This passage, which is surely relevant to S3, but didn't appear in S1, shows another character still devoted to God in a way. Lets give Death the final word:

Crowley: "Maybe it's it's all part of a great ineffable plan. All of it. You, me, him, everything. Some great big test to see if what you've built all works properly, eh? You start thinking: it can't be a great cosmic game of chess, it has to be just very complicated Solitaire. And don't bother to answer. if we could understand, we wouldn't be us. Because it's all - all - "

INEFFABLE, said the figure feeding the ducks.

"Yeah. Right. Thanks."

In the absence of dogs, what cow breed do you think would make good guard dog substitutez?

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i dont think cattle would do very good at guarding things woops ! theyre prey animals and they dont really have like.. guarding instincts like a dawggy does!

although fun fact.. did you know that donkeys are sometimes used as livestock guardian animals to protect sheep and cows!

i looovveeeeeeeeee guardian animals i think its so funny. donkeys are used for bigger livestock but for chickens and ducks .. people use geese!!!!! its so funny like. let me get one animal thats kinda like you but kills for fun. hes your dad now.

Okay, its been a hot second since I've seen My Little Pony, but worth it! Buddy is here with their animal friends ready to meet Team Prime and the Elite Guard.

TFA

Buddy’s alt-mode is golf cart. It was Team Prime who found Buddy. Well, more like Prowl and Sari who found them. Buddy was talking to the geese in the lake. Prowl was the first to make his and Sari’s presence known. Buddy shyly introduced themselves and asked if the two of them knew anything about the geese. Later the rest of Team Prime comes in to meet the new bot. It takes a few days to gain the bots friendship, but they seem happy to make such nice friends. Then the Elite Guard comes in…

Optimus Prime

“You’re a good friend Optimus. I’m glad I met you, my friend.”--Buddy

“Thank you, Buddy.”--Optimus

“Are you okay?”--Buddy

Voice crack “I’m fine.”--Optimus

Optimus needs good friends in his life.

Not like Sentinel or Elita-One/ Blackarachnia. They lost their rights to be Prime’s friends.

He has a good friendship with Buddy. Optimus has respect for Buddy as they treat everyone with equality and the same level of kindness. Something that not many people or bots have now a days.

Where was Buddy his entire life?

The only thing that does get on Optimus’s nerves with Buddy is that they want to adopt every animal they see without an owner. He has lost count of how many stray cats and squirrels he has found in their room.

He has no problem standing up for Buddy when they need it. He knows better than to fight others battles. But if Buddy needs the help, Optimus has their back. He does have talks with them about setting their own boundaries and being able to say ‘no’.

Will not hesitate to go out on someone if they make Buddy feel like they aren’t a true Cybertronian. He offers a confidence booster to Buddy if they feel like this, while also plotting against the attacker. Optimus does not care if the attacker is a Bot or human, they are going down.

Ratchet

“Hello there Doctor Ratchet. I cleaned some of your medical tools for you last night and organized them all just the way you like them!”--Ratchet

Need to adopt intensifies.

Oh, he is really considering it,

Ratchet has a soft spot for the younger bots on the team. Buddy is no exception to this.

Buddy’s quiet nature goes along well with Ratchet own quiet nature. Its just introverts being introverts. After his experience with Wreck-Gar, he defiantly has a bit more patience with Buddy.

Ratchet will not hesitate to hurt anyone who hurts Buddy. Whether it be physical or emotional, he has his throwing wrenches ready.

He doesn’t lecture Buddy as much as the rest of the team, but he does take time to talk to them about setting boundaries and saying ‘no’. Ratchet does get worried that one day Buddy isn’t going to say ‘no’ to something that would end up hurting them.

He is going to rain down a whole army on the sorry bot or human who calls Buddy a ‘fake Cybertronian’. Buddy is just as much of a Cybertronain than its inhabitants. Ratchet gives them a mini pep talk about it not mattering whether being a ‘fake’ or not, they are Buddy, one of the best Bots he has had the pleasure of knowing in his life.

Bumblebee

“Hey Buddy! Help me put these boosters on my back!”--Bumblebee

“Umm… that seems a little bit dangerous…”--Buddy

“C’mon please!”--Bumblebee

“… I guess if you use them responsibly…”—Buddy

Oh, he was definitely taking advantage of Buddy’s inability to say ‘no’ at first.

All Bumblebee had to do was sic the puppy dog eyes and a couple of ‘pleases’ and it was done. It isn’t until he gets a reality check from his team that he realizes that what he is doing is a bit messed up.

So, he does try to make up for it.

Mainly in the form of inviting them out to do more outings with him and Sari. But he soon gets the hint that Buddy doesn’t like big, crowded places, he offers Buddy to play video games as an alternative.

With time Bumblebee does try and get Buddy out of their shell. He makes sure they are fine with it first; he doesn’t want to overwhelm them too much. Just taking baby steps first.

He is willing to stand up against anyone who makes Buddy feel uncomfortable and fight them. He does try and help them in saying ‘no’.

He is ready to fight anyone if he hears that Buddy feels bad about being a ‘fake Cybertronian’. He is giving the weirdest pep talk that strangely works and helps Buddy’s self-esteem. Afterwards Bee and Sari are planning on how to make the human or Bots week miserable.

Sari

“Hello there Sari.”--Buddy

“Hey Buddy! You ready for Bird Time?”--Sari

“I thought you’d never ask.”—Buddy

Sari like Bee, definitely used the puppy dog eyes trick but not as much. Mainly to get out of little troubles here and there.

She does get a talk about it like bee though. But unlike Bee she gets a whole new idea.

Sari becomes Big Sister.

She is protective of the Big Little sibling. She feels like she has a special bond with Buddy. Anyways she always wanted to be a sister.

She instated a tradition between the two called Bird Time. Every week or so the two of them would go back to the pond and feed the geese while talking about their weeks. Sari loves Buddy’s empathetic nature and supportiveness. This was especially important when she learned about her not being human.

Like Bee, Sari is willing to fight someone who makes Buddy uncomfortable. Does not matter who it is, no one is coming near her little big sibling. She does have a habit of answering ‘no’ for Buddy when the situation seems fishy.

Sari honestly sympathizes with Buddy when they get called a ‘false Cybertronian’. Being a techno organic she understands that there are a lot of people and bots that will look at them differently. But that does not mean she will be plotting murder behind Buddy’s back. She teams up with Bee to make the person or Bots week miserable.

Bulkhead

“Good morning Bulkhead.”--Buddy

“Oh, hey Buddy…”--Bulkhead

“What’s wrong?”--Buddy

“Well… what do you think of my latest art piece? It’s probably dumb—what are you doing?”--Bulkhead

“I’m going to put this piece of art in my room.”—Buddy

This is Bulkhead’s best friend.

They are practically twins.

Many have mistaken their nature for twins. Which is something that both deep down find endearing and wish it were true.

Buddy never makes Bulkhead feel useless brute that’s only good for smashing things. Buddy does their best to support the things Bulkhead is passionate about.

Bulkhead in return does his best to stand up against anyone who is mean or makes Buddy feel uncomfortable.

Like Buddy he has a tough time saying no to certain things, but is much more honest in saying it and tries to help Buddy when they need it.

He is ready to pound anyone to the ground if he ever finds out Buddy doesn’t feel like a ‘true’ Cybertronian because someone says so. He does a lot of paintings of Buddy and tells them that they are as true Cybertronian as he is and that anyone who says otherwise is dumb. Bulkhead will have a grudge on any bot or human who says anything mean about Buddy.

Prowl

“Hello Prowl.”--Buddy

“Buddy.”--Prowl

“… I brought them in…”--Buddy

“Let me see.”--Prowl

Little meows

“Perfect.”—Prowl

Nature friends.

Prowl loves nature and Buddy loves animals.

The two of them like to walk around the park or go to Dinobot island to escape the city and enjoy nature. Buddy has made friends with all the Dinobots which makes Prowl happy.

The two of them have their own version of Bird Time. Except it involves staying still and seeing how many birds can land on them as much as possible. Buddy so far holds the record with 27 birds.

But there is a little snag in their friendship.

It involves training.

Buddy hates the idea of hurting anyone in any way shape or form. Prowl does it for self-defense or when it’s needed. He often tries to get Buddy to train with him, but it usually ends up with Buddy bringing animals into his room and watching him train.

Prowl still tries to get Buddy to at least know something, but that mission is still on going.

Does not hesitate a nanosecond if someone is making Buddy feel uncomfortable and will verbally destroy them if they even think about being mean to Buddy. Does talk to Buddy about the importance of saying no and setting boundaries.

Prowl is ready to throw shuriken’s as soon as he hears about someone making Buddy feel bad about their origins. He talks to Buddy about it no mattering how they got made, what matters is who they are. They are his friend, they are their own bot and that’s all that matters. May or may not have slashed someone/ somebots tires.

Jazz

“So, how long have you’ve been here?”--Jazz

“I was born last month.”--Buddy

“… You want to take a drive around?”—Jazz

Oh, he loves Buddy’s vibe.

They are a breath of fresh air compared to being 5 minutes around Sentinel. He sees someone who has so much kindness and empathy that he knows it is a gift. He doesn’t know too many bots that have that anymore since the war.

Jazz gets to know about Buddy from their hang outs and from talking to Prowl. He likes asking Prowl about Buddy’s favorite places to visit so he knows where the two of them could hang out when he has time. When Jazz can he likes walking with Buddy about anything under the sun. From the latest gossip in the Elite Guard, to his hobbies, music tastes, etc.

Jazz stands up to anyone who is being mean or making Buddy feel uncomfortable. Most times though he would take Buddy physically out of the company of the offender. No one has time to deal with rude people. He does try and talk to Buddy about the power of saying no while still being the kind bot they are and how important boundaries are.

Jazz would be speechless if he ever heard Buddy talk about someone calling them ‘inferior’ for not being a ‘true’ Cybertronian. He’ll take Buddy out on a walk while talking to Buddy about how people being mean because they don’t have anything better to do than cause misery to people who are living life by their rules. Definitely shares with Buddy a comfort playlist before leaving. Teams up with Prowl to find the bot or person who made Buddy feel bad.

Jetfire and Jetstorm

“Buddy! Buddy! Buddy!”—Jetfire and Jetstorm

“Hello there—whoa!”--Buddy

“We missed you!”—Jetfire and Jetstorm

The twins love spending time with Buddy.

Not only does it mean that they get to skip some of their chores, but they get to have fun too. Buddy offers some of the best places to fly and great places to observe some of Earth’s great nature phenomena. The twins sometimes like to combine into Safeguard to give Buddy a ride above the ground to look at earth.

They do use the puppy dog eyes sometimes, but they don’t abuse it too much. Only on harmless things like staying up a little bit more to continue playing video games with Bumblebee.

They don’t hesitate to get Buddy out of a harmful situation. Maybe flare up their powers a bit as a warning. They act like Buddy’s bodyguards when things get hairy.

They get angry when Buddy mentions that someone told them that they were a ‘real’ Cybertronian. They want names immediately. They do try to distract Buddy from feeling down by cracking jokes to make them forget about that feeling again.

Sentinel Prime

“So, this thing has a fragment of the Allspark?”--Sentinel

“They’re name is Buddy.”--Optimus

“Well just hold them down so we can extract—”--Sentinel

“NO!”—Everyone

Yeah, that’s right he wanted to crack Buddy open just to get the Allspark fragment and call it a day. No one is letting Sentinel anywhere near Buddy after what he said. He has tried pulling the Prime card, but that means nothing here.

Buddy, since they did not hear this, does try to make friends with him. They just want everyone to get along, where’s the damage in that? They are a bit confused in why so many of their friends are so against them even being a couple feet from Sentinel.

The rare times that he does get with Buddy are filled with him undermining them and proud fully boasting about his achievements. Yes, he is defiantly one of the Bots who calls Buddy a ‘fake’ Cybertronian. But these are short times since Buddy’s friends are never too far when Sentinel is around.

All the talking does do a number on Buddy’s confidence and self-esteem thinking they aren’t a true Cybertronian

Sentinel better run and hide because the second that Buddy lets loose that they think that way about themselves and it was caused by Sentinel.

Nothing on this planet or Cybertron is going to stop the war path buddy’s friends are going to be on.

May I request some headcanons of Barnaby,Sally and Wally meeting a Very Old Goose Puppet Y/n? Just this worn out,Raggedy and Intimidating Goose Grandparent who then absolutely babies them and teaches them self defense tricks,making them soup,maybe they worked as some sort of guard or security! Just pepaw/granny goose caring over these silly puppets.also like they could be going round the forest and a feral bear pops up,Pepaw Goose just turns around and hiss at it and the bear scampers off while Pepaw is like “Anyways-“ (Thoight would be funny because Geese are used as Guard animals)

Barnaby

Honestly, when this lad first saw you emerge from the woods...he was about to run back home with his tail tucked between his legs. You gave him quite a fright!

You were a goose who was about Poppy's height--if not taller--with ragged greyed feathers and [e/c] eyes that look nearly bloodshot, your legs and bill having stitches, and some loose stuffing falling out of your main body.

All in all...you had a very intimidating disposition.

But when you approach Barnaby, it turns out you're just returning one of his juggling pins that he accidentally flung out into the forest.

"You best keep an eye on your juggling kits, dear." You speak in a gentle, raspy voice.

"Th-Thanks...are you from the barn too?"

"A different one. I used to be a guard for the little gooselings and other farm animals in my prime years but---oh..how about we walk and talk, hm? Do you live close by?"

And that's how Barnaby got to know you! He felt bad for judging you by your appearance, as while you look scary..you're just a sweet ol' geeser (yes he's made that pun a few times and you love it) whose kind heart and soul haven't gone anywhere.

You've come to care for everybody in the neighborhood, especially the big blue dog who sometimes gets into accidents while performing stunts.

In those cases, you always know how to nurse him back to health.

At some point, he and everybody else start to see you as a grandparent, calling you [Pa/Ma]...which makes you especially happy.

Sally

When you were younger, you saw her descend to earth, thinking it was just an ordinary shooting star.

You made a wish that you'll be able to find some good friends to spend the rest of your days with. Being a geese guard was a lonely job sometimes..

Many years later, you see that same star--now one who walked and talked--strolling through the forest near your barn. And you were ecstatic, wanting to introduce yourself!

Even though Sally's never met you till now, she's flattered to learn you wished upon her....and even happier to know she made that wish come true!

Your initial appearance surprised her, but she's eager to run back to town and introduce you to everyone!

So that's where you two head to, though as you're both talking (which is mostly her rambling about the next play she's performing tonight), an aggressive bear suddenly leaps out and roars, frightening her-

Until you hiss at it, extending your wings in a threatening manner, which immediately drove the beast back into the woods.

Then you turn back to the gawking star with the sweetest, most apologetic smile. "I'm sorry about that, dearie..do continue."

And she does for a little while, but you end up using that bear encounter as a teaching moment, showing her (and the others once you meet them) how to best defend themselves against possible bear attacks (or any wild animal attack in general). You made it your mission to keep these young folks safe.

Sally would definitely incorporate these lessons into her plays, which you grew to adore, refusing to miss a single one.

Wally

It was actually Poppy who introduced you to the gang, since you've watched over the barn she's lived in since she was a little baby bird. She basically considers you her parent.

You helped her out with her anxiety issues and baking mishaps over the years, so everybody warms up to you quick after learning your ties to each other.

Wally's no different. He's not too intimidated by your height nor raggedy feathers (man knows to respect his elders).

If anything, he's impressed that your felt and stuffing are still keeping you together, but offers to help you get patched up.

"Oh thank you, sweetie!" You croon. "You know..this town is blessed to have such a kind and handsome gentleman like yourself here."

Hearing that instantly melted his heart.

Soon enough, you get acquainted with the others and take care of them if they need help with anything.

Within the neighborhood, you ensure no wildlife breaks into the grocery store and makes off with any food (especially apples), always keeping watch.

Wally admires your nurturing and protective nature, knowing you're a very wise bird who offers the best advice..

Whenever he's lost on inspiration for art projects or just...feeling stressed over whatever, you're there to help him how ever you can.

When he got caught out in a rainstorm and got sick one day, you made him some delicious soup that helped him feel better within hours.

And of course, Home's happy to see you taking care of their owner. So you're always welcomed inside.

Over the distant lake, terns glide in billowing swarms, black and shimmering against the blood-red breadth of the sun. Thirty or fourty, Quinn estimated in the afternoon, tip of a pen pressed into his lower lip pensively. Jack had accompanied him on the boat, sprawled on the deck, warm under the oppressive Michigan sun; watched Quinn's careful positioning, the patience with the camera, and then the painstaking counting of the birds over all the photographs when they were lying in bed, in the near-dark of the drawn curtains.

Jack tenses and shakes when Quinn brings a hand to his nape, slowly unwound with each thrust but still keeping this guard up, like this is a part of him Quinn doesn't get to feel anymore. His own hands twitch and pull at the bedding, twist in a trembling fist when Quinn fucks in deep. Quiet uh-uh-uhs tumbling out of his wet open mouth with his spit. Even like this he sounds like he's crying. Quinn kisses the edges of his spine, squeezes his sides, pets his shuddery ribs. Some shameful far cry of an apology.

This is the reality where he watches birds in the lonely mornings, the singular mornings; where they publish his book and praise his unusual prose, the slight absurdism, the tales of monsters and evil men weaved into a story that's meant to be ground in scientific theory. The clock doesn't tick childhood away: it slips from him like a river. He dabbles in cliché sentimentalism that never bleeds into saccharine. There's a dog in the backyard. He calls Quinn from time to time, just to hear him speak. Maybe he cries himself to sleep once or twice. Maybe he misses the old house. And then he hauls himself to the shoreline—he would choose a place near water, of course—and counts terns, geese, adventurous finches.

Quinn presses into the bruise, fingers first while he stretches Jack's arm out, then mouth, then tongue. The muscle jumps under his lips as Jack makes a weird strangled noise.

Domestic dromaeosaurs

This is an idea I've had for a while now, and watching crufts finally gave me the inspiration to actually draw it, so here's some ideas for various breeds of a hypothetical domesticated raptor.

Top left: A husky-esque sled driver.

Top middle: A giant breed with woolly feathers originally used to retrieve shot waterbirds, but now more used to rescue people in water.

Top right: A guard raptor inspired by geese (I also tried to give it what I believe to be the reptillian equivalent of the floppy lips some dogs have).

Middle left: Basically a gundog equivalent (also I gave it a moustache just because).

Centre: The wild ancestor of all the others.

Middle right: A greyhound-like sprinter.

Bottom left: An ornamental breed which in life would be brightly coloured, inspired by certain ducks.

Bottom middle: A scruffy ratter (aka, a terrier).

Bottom right: And last but not least, a small, partially featherless companion breed, inspired by the chinese crested dog.

Not an ask but someone from Discord mentioned it and now it live in my head RENT FREE:

Primarch and legions, and wich animal pets they would raise for fun (a mostly farm edition)

Alpha legions: Guinea pig. They love the squeaky noises and the absolute communal feel of a large colonies of them. They all seem to know the name of each ones, even if they look somehow similar.

Dark Angels: they have a long tradition of Falconry. They love to argue in between them on wich breed is Optimal, there are entire school that prefer things like falcon or Eagles or even Owls.

Space Wolves: They canonly raise big wolf for fighting, so ofc they raise dogs!! They LOVE their dogs!!!

Thousand Sons: They have pets crocodiles! Big chomper, that like to lay on them for cuddles. They often have magnificent scales pattern.

Emperor's children: They have the very bad habits of getting the most impratical pet ever as a one up to each others. "Oh, charming giant ostrich that you have, have you seen my pet reef shark?"

Ultramarines: COWS. I don't make the rules. They see cows, they pet the cows. They can't get away. They love them so much.

Death Guard: Rabbits. Fluffy, calm, cuddly bunnies, who wiggles their noses and fit in the middle of Astartes palms. They love the varied genetic and patterns of their lil friends.

World eater: GOATS. They fight everything, with their HEAD, they give no FUCK, they are agent of chaos and destruction. Love a good goat.

Iron hands: they like their lil Donkey. Very hard workers and very hard headed. Most of them get cybernetic too! So a robot donkey kick REALLY hurt lol.

White scars: ofc they raise horses! Pretty cool breeds and pattern too!! Very interesting beast, and wickedly smart.

Blood Angels: Pigeons. All the pigeons. In every colors and shape. Some are also unusually agressive- it's pretty funny.

Night lords: Cats. ALL the cats. They have huge rats problem on their ships due to all the corpses around, so the logical solutions was to get a TON of cats. Every night lords usually end up with a fav, and they all have ridiculous names. "Deathfang Mudermittens", "Clawclaw Bloodstreak" or "Lord Darkness of Bitey night"

Raven guard: Chickens! In all their forms!!! Very exotic ones too, even if the black/white ones are especially loved for the aesthetic.

Salamander: they raise Geese. Said geese are the sweetest, tamest, most gentle birds with the Sally... And then turn around and violently attack anyone who gets too close. The Salamander keep insisting their pets are nice. Everyone else is covered in angry bite mark.

Word Bearer: They raise snake! Calm, soft, smooth dessert noodles. Very docile and friendly, in spite of their bad reputation.

Son of Horus: They raise the most incredibly ANNOYING fucking Husky in the world. They never shut up. Bunch of bitches.

Iron Warrior: They have a full collections of very cute, calm, affectionate finches. They love perching on their Iron warriors and make the softest noises.

Iron Fist: Hear me out- Tamed. Bears. Big softie brown bears that cuddle their astartes and are extra warm. They do loose a small numbers of aspirant and serf to them every years to unfortunate play fight.

Thinking dumb thoughts as I rotate another game in my head like a rotisserie chicken but like.

If it was ever a case of domesticity with the 141 lads and like you were gonna raise egg laying farm animals? Chickens are cute but you'd need accuracy by volume for how big these guys are.

Get some fuckin turkeys or maybe geese. Geese are great if you need extra guard dogs for when the lads are out.

Dunno I just think the egg consumption amounts of these guys gotta be somethin else. While turkeys take longer to get to laying if the guys are out and you've got time to collect eggs? Jesus they'll be set.

Meet Harrison!

You might remember him from his old design (x), but he's been updated since.

He is german-shepherd/wolf & wapiti mix! His mother is a wapiti named Natasha & his father is a german-shepherd/wolf hybrid named Gunakadeit.

About Harry:

If Tails can face harassment for his two tails, you know a canine with hooves and antlers would have a bad time as well. Mostly isolated as a child, Natasha often put her woes and grief on her child-- reminding him that he was a mistake. Up until Gunakadeit's death, Harrison at least had community with the Sitka Pack-- but Natasha ended that once her estranged lover died.

Natasha is responsible for creating a monster all her own-- some insatiable beast of winter & darkness that she sealed away once he got out of control. But instead of taking accountability for her actions, she left Harrison to guard the temple the monster was sealed within.

Rumors would spread of some unknown power sealed away in the mountains, guarded by an antlered monster. And that was how Harrison first met Robotnik, fending him off from releasing the creature sealed within. While guarding the temple, Harrison would also meet a snow leopard named Cisco ( character belonging to: @stardustrobin ) who he would bond with. They become lovers quickly after meeting.

His isolation would come to a violent end when Natasha releases her creation on the world once more. Instead of trying to go after the monster alone? Harrison went to Robotnik for help-- trusting a familiar face over his own isolation.

And so his time began as Eggman's attack dog.

About the Sitka Pack:

The Sitka pack resides in the snowy, mountainous region of Mobius. Their village is called Tlákw.aan (“Eternal Village”), lined with totem poles to mark the edges of their territory.

Lots of rumors are spread about the fearsome Sitka pack. They are skilled warriors, successfully defending their lands from many invasion attempts (mostly orchestrated by Robotnik), & have often been found harboring a chaos emerald. In neighboring villages, they are the villains of many bedtime stories-- the Mobius equivalent of The Big Bad Wolf fairy tales. However, the Sitka pack are simply isolationists, refusing to assimilate with outside cultures, preserving their way of life.

They are on good terms with Sonic, considering how often they find themselves in charge of guarding a chaos emerald. When it comes down to Sonic & Robotnik disputes, the Sitka pack often find themselves on the Right side of history.

Thoughts About Peeta’s Torture

I’m currently reading Mockingjay. A thought occurred to me when I read the section in chapter 9 in which Peeta blurts out that the people in District 13 would be dead by morning. It was obvious to Katniss that he was in bad physical condition and had an angry, unfocused look in his eyes. We will later learn that he was being hijacked with tracker jacket venom. I wonder if the Capitol deliberately leaked the info about the bombing of 13 as a test to determine whether or not Peeta was fully turned against Katniss enough to want her dead. If so, he obviously failed the test because he warned her.

Haymitch raises geese...

At the end of Mockingjay, Katniss tells us that Haymitch raises geese. I always thought that was an odd hobby. Why geese? I wondered if there was some kind of message Suzanne Collins was hinting at for readers.

Forgive me if someone else figured this out already and posted it, but I think I understand now what S.C. was telling us. It seems geese saved the day for Rome in 390 B.C.E. The Gauls planned a night attack of the city and the sacred geese that were kept at the Capitoline Temple raised a ruckus and woke everyone up.

In keeping with the Roman theme of the Hunger Games books, I think S.C. was letting readers know that even though the war was over, Haymitch didn’t fully trust the new Capitol government. Raising geese for him was the equivalent of raising guard dogs. The geese were to act as sentry for the inhabitants of Victor’s Village -- Katniss, Peeta and Haymitch.

In my recent re-read of Mockingjay, I noticed something that I hadn’t noticed before -- after the Capitol surrendered to the rebels, there was an internal struggle as to what person was going to be in charge of the country. In the past, I’d just assumed Coin was completely running the show since she was calling herself the president and everyone had fallen into line behind her. But another person was vying for power, too, -- Paylor. Let me explain my thoughts.

When Katniss stumbles upon the greenhouse where imprisoned President Snow tends his flowers, she is initially rebuffed by a male and female who guard the entrance. “You can’t go in...President’s orders.” Guards that Katniss describes as not Capitol or from 13, but wearing tattered, throw-together clothes of actual rebels. They stop her from entering until Paylor comes up behind Katniss and states: “On my authority, she has a right to anything behind the door.”

Katniss goes on to mention yet again that the guards are Paylor’s soldier’s not Coin’s. (p. 354) Why does Paylor have her own military force if Coin was the president? And why would Paylor want Katniss to have a conversation with former President Snow?

I suggest it’s because Paylor wants Katniss’ support. Like Boggs stated in Chapter 19, “Sometime in the near future, this war will be resolved...You’ll throw your support to someone...If your immediate answer isn’t Coin, you’re a threat...You’re the face of the rebellion. You may have more influence than any single person.”

At this point Paylor doesn’t know where Katniss stands regarding allegiance to Coin. (We readers have no idea whether Paylor was aware of the Mockingjay Deal in which Katniss has to follow Coin’s directives to keep the other victors safe.) However, Paylor knows that Coin was responsible for the bombing of the City Center and knows that President Snow will bring up that issue as he pleads his case to Katniss.

Paylor even waits outside the greenhouse for Katniss to exit. “Did you find what you were looking for?” she asks.

That statement is laced with double meaning. Yes, Katniss found a rosebud, but also a lot of new information to ponder. In fact, the next few pages focus on her internal thoughts about the matter.

Katniss goes one step further than Paylor probably expected, though, by taking out her political opposition and shooting Coin.

Will we hear more about Anne and her pets? I love hearing about them and Anne's magic

I do have a comic in the works featuring Betty the snake and @meldoesthedraw OC Mari, it probably won't be finished till after Halloween though. As for her other pets I have a few mini headcannons with them but more or less been working on headcannons about Anastasia, since it'll be a while till I can work on more doodles with her have some notes

-Ringtail lemurs eat a varity of things: fruits, flowers, birds eggs, insects, leaves, herbs and bamboo. Trinket was the first of Anastasia's pets to grow fond of Teeth and ever since will randomly bring him pieces of fruit from Anastasia's kitchen or uprooted flowers. She's also the pet that sticks the closest to Teeth, being a lemur she's quick on her feet and is able to keep up with him. Baby lemurs cling to their mothers after birth so when Teeth was itty bitty Trinket was basically always at his side, it was just her mothering insincts. She's chilled out now that Teeth is bigger but will still leave him odd bits of fruit about his bus when he comes to visit

-Spike is a nile crocodile and despite being fearsome predators the are very gentle mothers. Spike took a little longer to warm up to Teeth, but since Spike is more or less the guard dog of Anastasia's shop (more than once Spike has chased out unwelcome thief's) it didn't really take her long to start getting protective of Teeth. Teeth as a kid always clambered over her like she was a jungle gym and Spike would just let it happen.

-Spike had a tendency to just...pick up baby Teeth by the scruff of his shirt and bring him back to the house, Teeth is bigger now she can't really do that but she will on occasion bite at the ends of his sleeve or trouser

-Gertrude the goose is a grump but actually took to protecting Teeth as a baby just as quickly as Trinket did. Geese are very good parents and each mate will help protect goslings. Gertrude, though a grump and at times didn't know what to do with Teeth, often rushes after him with distressed honks when he leaves her sight for too long and angrily chases away stray cats (Teeth is apparently allergic to cats) when Teeth starts sneezing. Gertude also did this thing during winter when she'd try to prevent Teeth going outside to prevent him getting cold

-From what I could find pythons do a bit of parenting with their young, they keep their eggs warm until they hatch and a few weeks after. Betty overall is the calmest when Anastasia brought this teenie baby into the home and declared it was staying. Betty most of the time would stay curled around Teeth when he was sitting in the sofa or in his bed, but otherwise she was chill to just relax and let Teeth do his own exploring. When Teeth visits, she has a tendency to curl up onto his shoulders cuz she finds the fluff of his sparkly coat and beard warm (she tried to eat Rizzo when she came to the studio so now Teeth makes sure to keep an eye on her whenever she's slithering about)
