I think what I like most about Abelard is that he is such a genuinely good and caring father/grandfather etc.
He clearly loved his wife, he never pressured his children to follow the same career path he did, he is very obviously immensely proud of all his descendants. It makes me so happy to see a man portrayed as loving his family, not just in a violent ‘will hurt you if you harm them’ way, but in a gentle, loving, ‘becomes visibly proud when his great-granddaughter discusses setting up infrastructure projects with his boss’ way
Every day I curse owlcat’s name that he’s unromanceable. Rogue Trader is a hereditary title, and I can’t imagine a better father for the next generation of the von Valancius dynasty
