I love when comics do this thing where they have three panels that are exactly the same. It's such a clever thing to do to show emotion, demonstrate the passing of time, and build tension.

I love how beautifully impossible-to-label Donna and Dick's relationship is
I also love how it confuses everyone who tries to force a label onto them. It's so special and complicated and unique!

Words can't describe how much these two mean to each other (or what exactly they mean to each other either).
This is mostly so I have all these panels in one place.

Helena Bertinelli/Huntress Reading List/Completionist Guide
Tumblr media
Helena Bertinelli is the Huntress of Prime Earth. She has existed as a character since 1989, and has appeared in her own series as well as multiple other series throughout the years. Most well known for being a Bird of Prey, she has a long history that tends to be hard to track. Instead of hunting down all of the issues, this guide has every one of her appearances in the attempt to follow her chronologically, but where her movements couldn’t be followed the natural passing of time was used to follow the story.
This is both a reading list and a completionist guide. This means there will be times when the issue only has a cameo of Helena. For a casual reader this list may be a little much. If that is the case click [here] for a shorter list that can get you started on Helena.
Moving onto Content Warnings.
There will be mentions and depictions of Sexual Assault of Adults and Minors, Slavery, PTSD, and Murder. These are some of the big Content Warnings. That being said let’s get started.

@inkareds I finished the complete guide if you want to check it out.
If I made any mistakes or forgot something leave a comment, or send me a message. I tried to include everything, but I could have messed up. I will also try to update this as new Huntress stuff comes out, so the list may grow.

Hal Jordan Reading List
Tumblr media
Hal Jordan is a man of many names and many legends. He was once the Green Lanterns' best and brightest. His name and legend is written into the stars. He fell, brilliantly and terribly. He rose again as the Spirit of Vengeance, the Spirit of Redemption! He returns in the end to his place among the Green Lanterns. But to truly know the man, you must read the stories.
Most important stories are bolded and my favorites are asterisked
Origin Stories
Some of these repeat, not all are necessary but I advise reading at least Emerald Dawn/Emerald Dawn II or Secret Origins or Showcase #22
Emerald Dawn (1990), first appearance of the Martin Jordan backstory
Emerald Dawn II (1991)*, Hal is trained by Sinestro for the first time
Secret Origins (Green Lantern (2005) #29-35), Geoff Johns’ version of Hal’s backstory if reading modern Hal stuff, its important
Showcase #22*, what actually started it all
Superman: Man of Steel Annual #4*, Hal meets Clark for the first time
Secret Origins (1986) #36, Hal retells his origin to a new friend (set post Action Comics (1938) #606)
One Shots
Green Lantern Secret Files (2004) #1 “Flight”, three flights in Hal Jordan’s life*
Justice League: The Darkseid War - Green Lantern #1, Hal becomes a God and gives it up*
Green Lantern 80th Anniversary, a tribute to the Green Lanterns across the ages* (Skip Geoff’s story. You’ll thank me. Four should be read after Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #35.)
Early Days
Green Lantern (1960) #6, first appearance of Tomar-Re*
Green Lantern (1960) #7, first appearance of Sinestro*
Green Lantern (1960) #8, introduction of the Solar Director of 5780 plot*
Green Lantern (1960) #9, second appearance of Sinestro + first appearance of Hal’s brothers*
Green Lantern (1960) #13, first team-up with The Flash (Barry Allen)
Green Lantern (1960) #16, first appearance of Star Sapphire
Green Lantern (1960) #26, second appearance of Star Sapphire
Green Lantern (1960) #30, first appearance of Katma Tui*
Green Lantern (1960) #36, Hal falls in love with an alien*
Green Lantern (1960) #45, Hal and Alan team up issue*
Green Lantern (1960) #49, Hal leaves Coast City
Wanderer
Green Lantern (1960) #51, conclusion of the Solar Director of 5871 arc
Green Lantern (1960) #53, family team up issue*
Green Lantern (1960) #57, an old enemy returns
Green Lantern (1960) #63, Hal saves the world from an alien who wants to destroy it*
Green Lantern (1960) #64, Hector Hammond returns*
Green Lantern (1960) #70, Hal gets a new job + first questioning of Guardians*
Green Lantern (1960) #73-74, Hal returns to Coast City and fights Sinestro and Star Sapphire* (note: there will be a panel that will make your jaw drop in how racist it is, there’s some good meat besides that panel but that panel…its bad)
Questioning and Politics
Green Lantern/Green Arrow
Green Lantern (1960) #76-#87, #89
The Flash (1959) backup stories: #217-#219, #226
Hal’s solo backups in The Flash (1959)
The Flash (1959) #220-#225
Space Exile and Return (I frankly rec reading all of Green Lantern (1960) #133 to #200, but these are the best issues out of it)
Green Lantern (1960) #149-150, 164-170, space exile!
Green Lantern (1960) #172, Hal gets to return to Earth

just read all of NTT and came out of it a huge donna fan but i have no idea what else to read for her. perez' wonder woman? titans 99? kyle rayner shit? give me donna recs please
omg hi!! you have come to the right place<3 congrats on finishing all of ntt by the way that’s such an accomplishment. the short answer is…pretty much all the things you said lmfao. there are lots of reading guides out there- I know I have a few in my donna tag, the ones I used were made by @/senorscotty- that will be comprehensive lists of her appearances but I’d be happy to give you a roadmap. My own personal recs for must-reads would be Titans 99 and the return of donna troy miniseries.
If you want to follow her story on from ntt chronologically the next thing to read would be darkstars (for donna specifically starting at #21), but feel free to skim some of it because that series is… not the most engaging lmfao. around this time there was also some back and forth with green lantern as she and kyle start their relationship so you can read those side by side if you want. she specifically appears in green lantern (1990) #58-59, 61-62, 68-69, 70, and 73-75. after the darkstars disband really the only place donna was hanging out was gl, just as a civilian- this is from issues 78, 81, and 88-90. A lot of these are just small cameo appearances but are necessary if you’re interested in keeping up with her and kyle’s relationship. those last few issues are very important for her though.
The next important donna rec would be Wonder Woman vol 2, specifically issues 123-136. This arc reinstates her as a superhero & aligns her with the amazons again, so going on from there she appears pretty often in the rest of that WW run! I would definitely recommend it for Donna, and it’s pretty easy to go to places like dcu guide if you want to know specifically where she appears.
JLA/Titans #1-3 comes next, and then Titans 99 after that! I’d recommend reading the whole thing, it’s only 50 issues and it’s a good time. Directly after titans comes the titans/young justice graduation day special, and obv her next appearance after that is the return of donna troy mini.
That’s about the buffer for my donna knowledge unfortunately! I am definitely not up to date on her post-2005 appearances but like I said there are lots of guides that should have that info for you. I hope this was at least a little bit helpful lol!

i hope this isn't too big of an ask but i have an idea for a fic with jenni and bart and i really want to get jenni right. is it possible that you could create a jenni specific reading list? i basically want to read only the comics she shows up in. im not saying that legion of supers is bad i just dont have the time to read everything for one person.
Tumblr media
Post-Zero Hour Legion of Super-Heroes but it's only Jenni Ognats Reading List (you're still reading a lot of comics anon).
** NOTE ** Jenni is a reoccurring character in two comic series that run simultaneously for a long time; Legionnaires and Legion of Super-Heroes (1989) - you will be flipping back and forth between series. For my sanity, I am grouping the series separately and listing just the issues she appears in.
Suggested LOSH reading.
Legionnaires
#0 - Her first appearance #19-#27 #29 & #30 #35-#43 #45 #50 #53 #55 & #56 #58 & #59 #61 & #62 #64 & #65 #76 - #81 Annual #2 Annual #3 - Jenni centric, this is her journey back to the 30th century after she leaves Bart in Impulse #12
Legion of Super-Heroes (1989)
#62-#69 #72 #75 #80-#84 #88 #91 #100 #104-#106 #108 #120 #122 & #123 #125 Annual #6 - Her origin story Annual #7
Once these series end you will no longer be flipping back and forth.
Teen Titans/Legion of Super-Heroes: Universe Ablaze
#1 & #2 #4
Legion Lost (2000)
#1 - She doesn't really say anything or do anything so this may be skipped honestly.
Legion Worlds
#1 #4 #6
The Legion
#4 #6 #10-#18 #20 #22 & #23 #25 #27-#29 #32 & #33
Teen Titans/Legion Special
Single issue. The 'end' of her primary run where she and her team are flung into the Void to become the new Wanderers.
Final Crisis: Legion of Three Worlds
#1-#5 - Where Geoff Johns retconns her origin (it's his primary thing) and gets multiple things wrong but she does play an important role.
That is it for her primary 'team' appearances, there are many other comics however that she appears in!
Suggested Flash reading
Impulse (1995)
#9-#12
The Flash (1987)
#108-#111 #145 - #150
The Flash 80 Page Giant (1999) #2
Single issue. Jenni uncovers some history concerning Wally that leaves her hopeful...
Other suggested comics
Young Justice: Our Worlds at War Special
Single issue, not much happens but she does meet with Bart.
Green Lantern (1990)
#98 - Jenni meets Kyle Rayner and talks about how Green Lanterns and Speedsters go together, Kyle nopes out.

Okay so I got several notes on my "Things Jason Todd should freak out over that happened while he was dead/in a coma/braindead/gone" post about using it in a timeline EXCEPT I listed those events off the top of my head and didn't actually look up when they happened relative to each other so I know that they weren't in chronological order so I am relisting each of those plus a few new ones in chronological order with issue dates here if anyone actually does want a timeline. If the comment references events that take place some time apart then I listed by whichever happened first. Check the issues listed to figure out when the second event happened. I may edit this post later.

Blasted tumblr won't let me upload multiple videos in a post (and would compress it too much as a gif).
Anyway here is the comparative growth maps of the 50 most-appearing DC comics characters.
Note: it is not the amount of comic issues they were in each decade. If it were, it would be basically just a boring increasing line for all of them. Instead, this is charting the proportion of DC comic's issues released each decade that they appeared in. Then, it is scaled so each line is around the same size.
Essentially, this the graph is looking at the maximum proportion of DC issues they've achieved over time, and then comparing all of their other decades to it. If the max they had was 8% in the 1990s, and in the 1970s they took up 4% of DC comics' issues, then it would read on this graph as: 100% in 1990, 50% in 1970.
The first dot on the lines is at 0% for each character, starting the decade before their debut. Because the furthest this goes back is the 1930s, Superman and the rare other characters that did come out then don't start with their graphs at 0% and just jump right into it.
The comparative charts of DC characters that are not in the top 50 can be found here.
I also have the proportion of DC issues each decade that are taken up by Batman-adjacent characters here.
A look at Flash, Green Lantern, Red Tornado, Hawkman/woman/girl, and Blue Beetle mantles are here.
General overview is here.
Tumblr media
Here is an example of how it scales when not manipulated to being the same height.
Tumblr media
Additionally, we can see that the amount of issues in which one of the decades’ top 10 or top 20 characters appears is increasing, from around 25% to 70%. Now, I am not 100% confident on the popular characters list of the 30s and 40s so you can treat those as a rough guideline but not settled.

Who's Carol Ferris/Star Sapphire?
Carol Ferris is the boss and occasional love interest of Hal Jordan. Her family owns the Ferris Aircraft company, where she acts as an executive, and sometimes as a pilot. She is also Star Sapphire, a once villainous character occupying another part of her personality entirely. In the Star Sapphire Corps, where she fights for love across the universe, she has taken on a more heroic role.

hey bestie can tell me about Kyle's origin story like how he vecame green lantern if possible can you explain how the others besides hal became green lantern
OF COURSE
so, kyle's origin is the most interesting and compelling to me, but in order to fully understand his start, we need a bit of context.
Hal Jordan. ya know him ya love him or maybe you cant stand his ass. he'd been The Green Lantern for decades!! but suddenly its the 80s. and he's exhausted. he's worn down and tired. and the 80's are like a minefield for him as he tries to find what he wants to do with his life. feeling lost and beaten down (both metaphorically and literally). then theres a reign of the supermen crossover thing where Mongul destroys the entirety of Coast City
Tumblr media
7 million people dead in an instant, a lot of which were Hal's friends, family and neighbors. He grew up there and suddenly it's all gone and it's just a crater left. It breaks that final thread for him and he creates a massive construct of the city. The Guardians (the corps bosses) HATE this because rings aren't supposed to be used for personal reasons, so they revoke his ring.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hal gets pissed and runs back to Oa in an attempt to argue with them... and it turns deadly. VERY deadly. Out of the 3000-4000 lanterns, only a handful survive Hal's rampage. He kills every Guardian except one (Ganthet), and absorbs the power from the central battery.
Anyways, long story short, Kyle is literally at the club and walks outside to get some fresh air and Ganthet goes "you'll have to do i guess" and gives him it. LMAO yeah that's his origin story. 100% CHANCE AND LUCK. it's fucking awesome. because it's completely different from all the other lanterns, who are chosen specifically by the guardians and the rings. like John and Guy for example. Guy was the second choice for Hal, but happened to be further away when Abin Sur (Hal's predecessor) died. John was then Hal's replacement. (I haven't read a whole lot about them since i'm working my way through some other runs, but thats the gist of it!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kyle, on the other hand, was completely alone, untrained, and also caught up in the middle of a cosmic massacre. It's really fun watching him figure things out and the ups and downs of his life. to me, being a 20-something year old art major too, his story resonates extremely deeply with me. Ron Marz has some AMAZING writing too. Highly recommend reading Green Lantern 1990 (kyle's run starts at around #50). It's super fun and engaging and we get to see Parallax (Hal) vs Kyle and how sometimes violence really genuinely isn't the answer, and sometimes people just need a friend to talk to. it's so freaking awesome
Lmk if you need more info I didn't wanna infodump too much today........ teehee

“you go blank inside” babygirl. you are dissociating
the abuse that hal suffered at martin jordan’s hands (and words) are. pretty indispensable to understanding hal’s time as a GL leading up to becoming parallax... hal became part of the corps pre-conditioned and primed for easy indoctrination. despite recognizing martin’s behaviour as abusive, and hoping to never become like him, compliance at one’s own expense was all hal knew. it was what felt safe, what felt familiar, and made up that last tendril of sanity—the universe couldn’t be that cruel, and a parent wouldn’t be so hateful for no reason. there must be something hal can fix—can compromise—to be accepted. if only hal could have given martin what he wanted, whatever that may have been. if, if, if.
fealty won’t earn you happiness—only survival.
when that illusion finally crumbles—when the realization that decades of loyalty to the corps and to the long-deceased father has reaped zero reward—so does the remainder of hal’s belief system.
captions below:
1. dc comics presents: green lantern (2004)
Willpower. Absolute concentration. Split second timing. Where does that come from?
Instead it’s all feed in more trim and if you’re still nose-down, put your feet in the stirrups and blow the canopy before you red out. You do what you do. You go blank inside.
2. back issue #80, on Green Lantern
Fearless people tend to be cocksure of their actions and tend not to question anything, including authority. I recall a number of John Broome[-written] stories where Hal was totally (and happily) subservient to the Guardians of the Universe.
3. zero hour: crisis in time (1994) #0
I used to be the errand boy for the Guardians of the Universe. It was a thankless job. I knew that. I had never asked for anything.
The one time I did, I was denied. It dawned on my just how unfair the universe really was…
4. green lantern (1990) #63
Your rules. Your rules kept me from any happiness. I served the corps more faithfully than anyone, and my loyalty got me nothing.
5. dc comics presents: green lantern (2004)
Like what you learn at the end of someone’s arm. You learn to go blank.
Like maybe things with him would change if could just give him what he wants. If you would just take it like a man. But nothing ever did change. He just kept calling you a loser. And if he ever had a warmer opinion, you never heard about it. You took that like a man, too.
6. back issue #80, on Green Lantern
I always believe it is very hard for people to actually change their personalities. So the best Hal could do was reach a happy medium, intellectually realizing he should be feeling differently about a situation, but emotionally having trouble doing so.
7. dc comics presents: green lantern (2004)
I don’t think I can do this anymore. “Fearless.” It’s all a crock.
8. green lantern (1990) #50
9. dc comics presents: green lantern (2004)
You go blank inside.
Maybe sometimes that’s all that stands between this thing on my finger and the hot green end of everything.

you're the kyle authority on my dash so i figured i'd ask if u have a reading list or if there's a particular list you'd recommend 👀 or just what your fav/most recommended issues/arcs are for him in general
sobbing and crying i cannot be called a kyle authority because i have basically only read him in green lantern 1990 and countdown. and i read countdown before gl90 so i dont even remember how good his characterization was in that fhasdkjfhsajdf
BUT. that will never stop me from being annoying about him. gl90 is all i need i refuse to read anything else. heres a reading guide that has a lot of good stuff on it but uhh i havent read everything on that #lol
but some of my fav arcs/issues!!!! or just arcs that def should be read for him fhdskjdfs
green lantern 1990:
#50-55 (origin story <3 rip alex)
#58 & 59 (donnakyle brainworms)
#71-73 (he gets to have a fun silly time with other heroes yippee!!)
#76-77, & green arrow #110-111 (connorkyle brainworms)
#83-85 (FOAMING AT THE MOUTHHHHH I LOVE THIS ONE. YRRA!!!!!!!)
#94 (i just like his interactions with kon fhakdfjha its so sweet)
#96, green arrow #130, flash #135 (three of a kind arc my beloved)
#98-99 (this one is honestly just okay but also there are a couple moments in it that im obsessed with so it deserves to be recommended)
#113-114 (i really like a lot of the introspection with effigy so this arc can be rly nice as a treat)
#121-124 (trapped in a dream trope my beloved <3 also some good stuff at the end to finish marz's run)
#128 (roykyle brainworms)
#129-136 (starts off judd winick's run,,, irc theres some iffy stuff in these issues bc winick's a freak but theyre pretty good)
#143-150 (oh my fucking god. ION. greatest arc ever. do not read this first because you need the full context of his character to appreciate it. but once you read it itll change you forever)
#153 (this one is just adorable i love fhdakhfbdfa calm before the storm)
#154-155 (the storm. hate crime arc, very sad so tw for uhhh homophobic hate crimes. but its a good arc)
can i be honest i dont remember any of the rest of the issues really grabbing my attention. there are good moments (#157 my beloved) but no issues stand out hfksadjhfa
also i was so upset by the ending of this run the first time i read it. i have no problem with sad endings to stories but this one made me so upset and i still havent gotten over it. it ends with him losing all the friends he had on earth and going "well im off to space forever now" and i dont know why i reacted so terribly to it but i remember pouting about it for like 2 days
anyways outside of gl1990 i think green lantern: circle of fire is 1000000% worth reading (honestly i only read the first issue, the only with alex & kyle, and the last issue and i got all the important stuff). also completely unbiased and totally no ulterior motivation of new titans #126 (where he just happens to have a rly sweet interaction with rose.....)
i hope this helps u at all <3 i honestly recommend reading all of green lantern 1990 (or well. starting at #48) because its mostly really fun and has a lot of good moments <3333 and if anyone has more kyle recommendations please feel more than welcome to drop them

remember when green lantern 1990 spent 50+ issues excruciatingly detailing why the military complex is absolute dogshit and then Geoff Johns proceeded to spend his entire run making sure that Hal was a certified bootlicker
