sleepy and v fed up w this blasted reading for japanese history class tomorrow. give me 45 minutes to finish this article and i will be back to talk about kissing or something

#for the blissfully uninitiated: hello i am history student #which is a fantastic thing to be but also a significant pain in the [REDACTED] when it wants to be #the professor for this class is almost unbearably terrible which does not exactly make me WANT to do this reading #but the exam is in like 2 weeks lol #so yk. i have the hardest life of anyone on earth etc etc #god forbid i actually do the degree i asked to do lmao #also i up early this morning to drag myself to the immigration bureau for a visa amendment #which meant a decidedly unpleasant hour on the metro during rush hour :(#its bc im applying for this english TA position in spring #its literally only for 5 days and tbh i wouldn't mind doing it for free bc i am sad like that and enjoy teaching for fun #but it IS paid - and paid work is Not Allowed under my student visa #so even though i literally have not even GOT the job (applications close today) i still had to go and apply for permission to work #watch as they dont hire me lol #oh i should mention - for those who may not know i am in tokyo this year #i am british and i usually go to uni in the uk but im on a study abroad year this year #i came to japan in sept of 2023 so ive been here for coming up on 5 months and i will be going back home in august on 2024 #its weird to think that im approaching the halfway point #tbh i should really just make this a separate post but whatever #coming to japan has been very strange but a good thing i think

Ongoing Series - Thai

City of Stars (Fri iQIYI) ep 11 of 12 - Like most Thai BL pulps, this show doesn’t have much story to it. But I'm discovering that what it does have I actually really enjoy. I love that the gay boys got to play matchmaker for a change and I like how just GAY they are. It's nice. Refreshing.

We Are (Weds GMMTV iQIYI) ep 1-2 of 16 - University ensemble BL featuring PondPhuwin, WinnySatang, AouBoom, MarcPawinPoon. I like it. It’s old school Thai BL, but having fun with itself and its tropes. I’m not expecting much, so I don’t mind it waffling. All the couples are comfy. Chemistry is okay. Friendships are nifty. I like Pond's floppy hair. We fine.

Two Worlds (Thurs IQIYI) ep 5 of 10 - What an extremely bloody episode. And bad guy turned out to be very bad indeed. And now pretty much everyone is dead. Nice kiss. Of course.

Deep Night (Thurs iQiyi) ep 6 of 8 - It’s cute, they happy, not a ton happened. Random gratuitous bathing. As you do in BL. And I still think the sides should just end up in a thrupple

Only Boo! (Sun YouTube) ep 2 of 12 - Oh they very cute. Also very silly.

1000 Years Old (Thurs iQIYI) ep 9 of 12 - No. NOT THE GUITAR. YES abandon guitar for the sniff test! Love this for them. And me. My most favorite trope defeated my least favorite trope. VICTORY!!!

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Unknown (Taiwan Tues YouTube & Viki) ep 8 of 11 - It’s just so good. Baby went away, grew up, and learned how to become a temptation... and a husband.

Gray Shelter AKA Gray Currents (Korea Thurs iQIYI) 1 of 5 eps - SooHyuk, only just surviving, reunites with YoonDae, his (brief) younger stepbrother who feels abandoned. They end up living together. The younger brother is played by Lee Jae Bin of Choco Milk Shake. OMG. STEPBROTHERS TROPE. Lucky me! Two in one season. Yay!!!! It's Korea so great visuals too. I shallow but yeah, this is great.

Living With Him AKA Kare no Iru Seikatsu (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 1 of 10 - Kindly Ryota goes off to uni only to find his new roommate is his childhood bestie, Kazuhito. Kazuhito doesn’t have a girlfriend and Ryota tries to help him figure out why. Same director as Old Fashion Cupcake. It’s utterly charming. I am charmed. Also the framing is gorgeous (of course). Very stylish.

Love is Better the Second Time Around AKA Koi wo Suru nara Nidome ga Joto (Japan Weds Gaga) ep 6fin - I don’t know. Kind of a flat ending with the leads apart for most of it. I enjoyed this show but it never really hit with me.

Summation

After a teen betrayal and resulting separation a reporter reunites with his first love. That love wants him back. I enjoyed the authenticity of a reunion romance explored in Japan's quintessentially contemplative yet surreal way. The juxtaposition of the tenderness of the sex scenes with this Japanese style of authenticity was oddly elegant but all in all this still fell a little flat for me. There's nothing objectively wrong with it, but in total the narrative felt sluggish and the main couple were just... stiff (in the wrong way). Frankly, I'd rather just rewatch Tokyo in April is. 8/10

Love is like a Cat (Korea Mon Viki) eps 3-4 of 12 - What is going on with this show? No, I get the plot. I just don't get the show or why I’m watching it. Annoying.

To Be Continued (Sat C3 Thailand grey) ep 7-8fin - I can't for the life of me find the final 2 episodes. Haven't had a real hunt, but yeah. No dice so far.

Takumi-kun Series 6: Nagai Nagai Monogatari (Japan Furritsubs) eps 1-? of 10 - I may wait and binge it.

Lady Boy Friends (Thai WeTV grey) 16 eps - reminds me a bit too much of Diary of Tootsies only high school. Not my thing. DNF unless it turns a corner and is truly amazing.

Kiseki Chapter 2 (Sun iQIYI) 6 eps - It’s so boring DNFed at 2.

Close Friend Season 3: Soju Bomb! (Weds iQIYI) 6 - The problem with situational comedy BL is it must be situational, comedic and a BL. This show gets 1 of 3 claims correct. 33% is not a passing grade. Dropped at 3.

Memory in the Letter (Thai WeTV) - only 4 eps, tell me if I should bother?

4/18 At 25:00 in Alaska AKA 25 Ji Akasaka de (Japan Thurs Gaga) 10 eps - Yuki lands his first starring role in a BL drama alongside superstar Asami (previously his senior at uni). Said superstar suggests they form a sham relationship until filming concludes. As they actually begin to fall in love, the spotlight begins to burn. I think I've seen this before (joke) and also the trailer doesn't inspire confidence.

4/25 Boys Be Brave! AKA Roommates (Korea Thurs Viki) 8 eps - Trailer Jung Ki Sub is Kim Jin Woo's slacker friend - and secret crush. So when Ki Sub crashes at his place, his heart tingles to be near him everyday. But as the short stay turns into permanent mooch, how long can Jin Woo keep his true feelings under wraps and hold back from confessing?

4/26 My Stand-In (Thai iQIYI) 12 eps - adaptation of Chinese novel "Professional Body Double" by Shui Qiang Cheng. Stars Up (Lovely Writer) and Poom (Bake Me Please) directed by the same team as KP (not a recommendation IMHO - my biggest criticism of that show was the clashing directing styles). This one looks complicated, lemme try: Joe is a stuntman for famous actor Tong. Joe falls in love with Ming but Ming sees Joe as nothing more than a Tong-replacement. After learning this horrible truth, Joe dies. Joe then wakes up in the body of another man also named Joe. He manages to rebuild the same life as before—with the same people eventually re-meeting Ming. Ming wants Joe back but Joe doesn't understand why. But Ming seems to know what's going on and wants to give him some kind of explanation.

I'm exhausted just trying to describe the plot.

Knock-Knock Boys (Thai WeTV) - 4 college friends conspire to help their friend lose his virginity. Familiar faces like Seng (yes, Billy's previous pairing) and Best, news here. But will it actually air this month?

things from these days i loved 💓 #5:

guess who couldn't hear her alarm again 😙 thank god its only trial week so I don't think attendance matters yet. the courses yesterday were a bit,,, not it but i have a full day of cinema and photography ahead! 💖

I also got accepted into the homestay program and im going to meet a family soon!! <3

I also managed to get a hold of a suica card! basically they are tokyo's transportation card BUT they are currently mega hard to find because of a chip shortage. and let's say I was going crazy over the tokyo metro every single time I had to buy a ticket. its sooo complicated. and i always made everybody wait :( it got delivered super fast and the seller even put a small origami inside the package <3

wednesday was also a nice lovely day <3 after we were all done with lessons (one of which was absolutely bonkers, but at least i met a. again) me f. & k. went to eat out at ikebukuro and I had great sushi!!! I'm also glad we got to hang out with k. in a smaller setting because I'm kind of having a hard time understanding if he wants to be friends lol but seems so!!! (he made me try a station vending machine exclusive type of water that literally turns into jelly lol it was fun!!)

I also attended my one and only literature course and the professor seems very nice and part of the exam is just making a playlist for one of the short stories we're going to read and how cool is that!!! (italy could neverrr)

ive been super busy during trial week (basically you get to attend every course you want to check them out but then you have to decide and register officially, so ive been attending so many classes) so ive been eating lunch outside. im trying some konbini stuff and surprisingly their egg sandwiches are DIVINE i thought i would like them the least!!!

I also had some more awesome cinema related classes <3<3<3<3 i have a course thats called japanese film in comparative perspective but the professor essentially made it a socialising class where japanese students and international students can mingle and the exam is just making an ACTUAL movie together!!! and then at the end we will be hosting a uni academy ceremony (how FUN and CUTE is that!!!!)

It was also very funny because f. came to attend this one film class with me despite it really not being his thing and he was soooo uncomfortable with it all, he so wanted to run and he actually did at the first chance lmao

The movie class i had right after was also soooooo interesting...... im like overwhelmed by the amount of classes i want to take lol

we finally settled on the okinawa trip!!!!!!!! 💖💖💖 im so happy the guys were supportive of my idea, it has been on my bucket list FOREVER and I still haven't processed that I'll actually be in naha!!!!!!!!!!!! it's me, f. & j. so far (my bestiesss <3) but we could potentially invite two more people and we are,,, pondering 👀 id really be fine with just them, because the only other person I feel would not ruin the vibes is k. but hes settled on going north all on his own. maybe e. would be fun but I haven't spoken to him much!!! and f. and. j. both really like h. but he literally doesn't talk to me lmao we'll see 👀

we also finally ate takoyaki from the food truck outside campus and it was DELICIOUS <3<3<3

I have a super busy day ahead pray for me!!! I'll also have to explain to the japanese teacher that im still jet lagged and I couldn't go yesterday so I can't hand in my homework today sigh sigh sigh but I'll live 🙏🏻 and then I have all the photography course!!!

Bandai Namco US Details San Diego Comic-Con 2023 Offerings

Are you ready for the kickoff of the World Tamagotchi Tour in the United States? Bandai Namco US is headed to San Diego Comic-Con 2023 on Thursday, July 20th through Sunday, July 23rd, 2023. The Tamagotchi booth is #3345, and will feature some exclusive Tamagotchi’s!

Bandai Namco US elaborates on their website that have some awesome merchandise for sale. First off you have the two Tamagotchi Original convention exclusive shells which are titled Mametchi Spaceship with P1 programming, and Mimitchi Spaceship with P2 programming. These two Tamagotchi originals will be available for $30 each. Next up is a convention exclusive lanyard for your Tamagotchi along with a character charm for $10.

Tamagotchi Uni! The Uni wil be available for sale for $60, so if you haven’t gotten one yet, you need to pick up one or perhaps two. Then you’ve got the Tamagotchi Uni lanyard along with a character charm (black is pictured) for $10. They’re also selling the Tamagotchi Uni bands in both black and white which are $10 each.

Next up is the Star Wars Gorgu Tamagotchi in the Grogu Limited Edition shell for 35. Then you’ve got the regular Gorgu Tamagotchi for $20, if you’d like the Grogu Tamagotchi silicone set that will be available for $28. If you want the Star Wars R2-D2 Tamagotchi you can get one for $20 each.

girl she looked PHENOMENAL !

there was y2k inspiration all over the damn place !

kaori wanted to show that she was fun and fashionable but still strong, so there was a lot of military elements and a lot of pants BSNDMDSJ she’s a bit of a tomboy

ofc, the theme of the self title era was literally just her ! so there was a lot of personal elements like rhinestones, fingerless gloves, highlights in her hair, etc !

the costume design for this tour was a lil simple, but ofc, it was only her first so they couldn’t go too hard lol

there was a LOT of inspo taken from early namie amuro, ayumi hamasaki, girls’ generation, 90s christina aguilera, and britney during her oops i did it again tour !

the vision board for the costumes was insane and ofc kaori was behind most of it SKMSJKWJ

her costume changes were so cool btw ! there was one instance where she ripped off one costume to reveal another in between songs it was just insane sjsjwukd

also yes she did have different versions of her military uniform for practically every show lol

TOUR HIGHLIGHTS !

the second that those tour dates dropped the demand was INSANE !

originally, avex had booked smaller venues since kaori was a rookie artist ofc, but then the demand started rolling in

it was so huge that adding more seats wasn’t enough, they had to change venues ENTIRELY !

like she literally sold out arenas,, she sold out both the tokyo metropolitan gymnasium and the jamsil arena,, the way her fanbase exploded within just a few months was actually crazy

she even managed to sell out the wembley arena ! like girl her appeal was insane !

anyways getting to the actual tour, it was a great one ! the sponsors for the tour were shiseido and dsquared2 (!!), who actually made most of kaori’s costumes

she also collaborated with colourpop in the us to sell themed makeup specifically for the tour ! there were these cute booths all over the venues, but unfortunately, they were only sold in the us </3

now onto the actual shows !

the openings were SO cool ! at first it started out with just her dancers on this raised platform, and she practically appeared out of nowhere and went straight into “treat me”

the crowd went batshit like girl that song was EVERYWHERE when it dropped

and ofc she was wearing that military uniform !

the setlist was essentially the entirety of her album + some covers, but it was all so fun ofc

like there was this one instance where kaori started the second half of the show in a ballgown and started singing a piano rendition of “sakura no hi,” and everyone was so sad like they thought the concert was over skhdjwjsj

but then she just. rips the skirt off and goes right into “try me” ?? insane !

and girl when i tell you that EVERYONE knew the lyrics to “try me,” i’m not kidding BSMSJMDNS

like kaori has SO much fun performing it too ! there was this moment during her tokyo finale where she let the crowd scream the “oto o tatete” (make some noise !) that she usually does before the song’s breakdown, and girl you could hear it from OUTSIDE !

crowd favorites were definitely “treat me,” “orite no shake it,” “try me,” “get up,” and “yeah-oh” skhdjdkwks like pretty much the entire crowd knew the words to ALL of those songs

and omg let me tell y’all abt those covers

she literally covered britney, christina, and janet all in one show !

first was “…baby one more time” and kaori was wearing her classic school uni, but then that got removed to reveal a white two piece and then we got “come on over baby”

and everyone thought she was done but then that turned into a black two piece and we got “black cat” !

like that medley was truly crazy

before we get to the encore, there was this one time during kaori’s los angeles show where she caught a water bottle with one hand, and the crowd lost it SWJSJSBSN

and she was so confused like all she did was catch a water bottle 😭

it’s her female fans y’all WJHSJD

anyways, the encore was amazing like,, the staff pushed her around in those portable stages (wth are they even called girl BSWUHJ) and she waved at so many of her fans

usually this would be a safety hazard, but she did ask a fan to throw a bouquet onto the stage !

the encore during the tour’s finale in tokyo was so sad though ! like kaori rarely cries but she was damn near sobbing at the end

she did not expect so many people to show up like she was just so touched y’all

also ! her call and response chant was coined during this tour !

it happened during her first show in tokyo, where kaori said “kao kao” and the crowd responded with “rin rin”,, it was just too cute

also, side note, but during this era netizens LOVED calling kaori a weak singer, but then this tour happened and she sounded INCREDIBLE live

like you could tell that she had been training girl !

and the choreography ?? insane ! like kaori was dancing her ass off during literally every show

anyways, there were meet ‘n greets held before each concert, and there were SO many people who wanted to meet kaori that she was actually thrown for a loop SMNSKJWJSJ

there was also some after each concert for fans who had backstage passes, but girl there was this ONE time,,

it was after kaori’s finale in tokyo and ofc a bunch of her friends came ! but after she finished greeting them her mom walks in !

and ofc she starts crying like that’s her mama !

but then girl he DAD walks in not even a second later and kaori just starts crying harder, sobbing, full on bawling,, like the whole 9 yards

atp she hadn’t seen her dad in 9 YEARS

getting to hug him again after years truly meant sm to her mhm

at the end of the year, a docuseries covering the tour was released onto youtube (even though kaori alr vlogged half of it 😭) ! and on the tour’s 1st anniversary in 2013, avex released a full concert film of her finale in tokyo,, girl it broke RECORDS in japan, and she even visited fans during the premiere !

anyways ! all in all, such a phenomenal tour ! ofc it was kaori’s first one and it was a bit hard to adjust to, but it was so fun ! everyone loved it ♡

like people were literally comparing her to namie, ayumi, and 2000s era britney y’all like it was serious WMSDJWJS

"Hanma-san? What are you doing here?" You squealed seeing the man knock on your dorm window.

"Yo!" he chuckled, "sorry I came without letting ya know, I just really missed you~"

You flushed at his words, averting your eyes, "well now that you are here, come on in."

"Man, now I kinda wanna come back to Uni, fun days," he exclaimed while laying, ruining the bed you had just made.

"It's not like you studied anyways," you pointed, clearing up your desk.

"Why you gotta be so rude, huh? Respect your elders!"

You stuck your tongue at him, "stay here, I'll get some snacks. I recently got a whole stock of chips and chocolates because you always end up eating mine. I kept them in my friend's dorm, I'll go get them"

Hanma flashed you a huge grin, "aren't you the sweetest, angel?" You huffed and ran to avoid him.

He chuckled and his gaze fell on a certain book sticking out from between the mattress.

He gently removed out, thinking it was some academic book that you might later look for until his eyes fell on the neatly written letters: Diary of Baji Y/N.

'Oho! this is gonna be good,' he thought while opening the diary.

He started reading from the most recent pages.

Dear Diary,

Hanma and I hung out today. Have I ever told you how tall he is? He is 6'4! I wish I was a little taller so I could reach my hand to smack him on his head.

Why? Well you see, we went to a cafe, and he just ordered a sandwich and a cold drink. i..saw him dipping a sandwich in cola...I knew he was unhinged but my god.

Dear Diary,

Hanma helped me sneak into the library for material to study. He knew all the blindspots where cameras are not focused. It was so exhilarating! I felt like I was in a James Bond movie!

When we entered the library, it was pitch dark, and we used flashlights to look for the book. When we found it, I was carefully taking out the book and suddenly the pile of books on top of the book fell.

One fell on top of my head, I hissed and it drew the attention of the person who was taking rounds.

He called out, "who is there?" and walked close. I was so scared!

Then Hanma grabbed my hand and we huddled at the end of the book rack. We were so scared that we couldn't think properly. As soon as the person left, I realized our position.

Hanma was sitting with his back touching the shelf, his legs were folded with a little space an I was sitting between them, my hand was on his chest and his large hand was on the small of my back.

Cliche right?

I swear to god I was so glad it was dark that he wasn't able to see my flustered expression, but I was close enough to make out the smirk on his face.

His other hand had cupped my face, thumb running on the apple of my cheek.

He whispered with a dulcet voice that kissed the air like the smell of a fresh blossom of Night Jasmine.

"Pretty," he said like it was my name. A small whimper escaped my throat, only the sun has ever come this close, only the sun. Y/N

Hanma felt heat bloom in his chest, of warmth and solace. You were truly something else, Y/N

Dear Diary,

I really miss big brother today.

People say Mikey-san has suddenly disappeared, I wonder what happened to the kind and caring Manjiro Sano. I saw an article in the newspaper about this new gang called Bonten.

I knew Mikey made it, it had to be the result of the battle of three deities. Bonten is the Japanese name for god Bramha which also gave way to the gang Brahaman. Unoriginal right? If Keisuke was alive, Mikey would have never gone astray. Big brother would have beat Mikey up until he came back to his senses.

I wish everything could go back to normal, from the day Kazutora killed Shinichiro-san.

Hanma sighed and walked up to you, you closed your eyes thinking that he was gonna yell at you.

He kept a hand on your cheek, "why did you not tell me?"

"I was scared that you won't want to be friends with me anymore and it's true isn't it--."

You were pushed onto your bed until you were sitting on the edge, your brows were knitted in confusion when you saw Hanma sitting on his knees.

"What are you doing?" you asked.

Hanma kept his hand on the nape of your neck, leaning close, "I am trying to kiss you, I don't this my back can handle bending so much, short-stuff."

He leaned in slowly, unlike his do or die behaviour, he dealt with you like you were made up of glass. Something fragile that might break if he was not too gentle.

Your hands wrapped around his neck, and you gasped when you felt his hands circle around your waist. He pulled you to the ground on his lap, slowly ravaging you like you were someone worth worshipping. Gentle caresses littered like he is afraid to break what is already damaged, maybe his sultry and soft touches might heal you after all.

When you two pulled away, you were breathless.

He tapped your cheek and gave a toothy grin, "Let's take it slow for you sweet-cheeks, besides we have got all the time we need in the world."

see i got my switch like..... almost 3yrs ago now? it was a gift for my 16th birthday bc that happened during the pandemic and my dad was like "we can't get you a car rn" and i was like "i like this better actually" (and i still like my switch more than i like my shitty car back home)

where do you want to travel the most: i wanna go to the south of france + tokyo + venice, but i heard it’s not all that. my fav places that i’ve been to are vietnam and america which r two very different places and i adored them - vietnam more for the food and culture and surroundings, american more bc of family + tourist attractions + theme parks. so. maybe one of those wins.

Also I loved reading The Alchemist but I seriously need to get my own copy for a reread. Have you heard of No Longer Human by Dazai Osamu? It’s Japanese classic literature and I was very emotional by the end of it because at that point in my life I could really relate with so many things the author wrote abt. I need to reread it eventually with a new set of eyes and now that I’m in a much better place in life. I actually first got into it because of Bungo Steay Dogs LEAVE ME ALONE I FOUND SOME VERY GOOD BOOKS THROUGH THAT ANIME ASHKHFFGCC. I’m currently in the long process of making my way through H.P. Lovecrafts stories and I need to start Crime and Punishment at some point but we’re not ready for that level of commitment and annotating yet 💀. Do you annotate books? I only recently got into it and sometimes I hate it but other times I love it. Like I hate it when it starts to feel like another homework assignment but I love it when it helps me collect my thoughts and I can take my time to actually digest what I’m reading. So it’s a 50/50 experience. From my birthday book spree, I got the omnibus (joint) volumes 10-11-12 of One Piece (I’m collecting all the omnibus volume sets where it’s like 3 volumes in one manga cause collecting the box sets is really expensive and I’m a very impatient person sometimes lol), the omnibus volume 1-2 and 3-4 of Tokyo Revengers (when I found out that they had finally released physical English versions of the manga I walked into Barnes and Noble with the mission to get that volume first and foremost and I was so excited and surprised and happy that they had also released the second omnibus volume too so I got both at the same time rereading Tokyo Revengers from the beginning is so nostalgic and makes me cry so much but in a good way because at this point in the story everything’s still almost great and happy), I also got volume 2 of Blue Lock and ordered volumes 1 and 3 (I figured I might as well start collecting the manga now so I can start binge reading immediately after the first season ends). I also got actual book books too. One was a new buy (not from my tbr list) and it’s called Belladonna by Adalyn Grace (one of the store people recommended it to me last time I was there and it sounded fun and interesting so I got it, it’s also hardcover since it’s new, and oh man I haven’t purchased a hardcover in such a long time lol), Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco (it’s was all over my fyp for a while but that’s not the reason I got it, I got it because a lot of my favorite booktokkers recommended it and it’s not mainstream, made that mistake with The Poppy War already, so I got it), and the paperback copy of The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes (idk why this book got so much hate but I liked the first one so we shall see). Oh and I’m also rereading PJO in honor of the show coming out soon. Do you like Percy Jackson? The trailer for the show was asvjgdffff amazing it was like seeing my childhood come to life I have high hopes for the show. And I’m also reading Chainsaw Man rn because I had gotten volumes 1-5 already before the anime started cause I heard it was great and I wanted to be ahead if the show you know but I finished volume 3 before life happened so I wanna start reading it again. The moment I read 'no longer human by Dazai Osamu' I knew it had to be BSD 💀 and reading further I turned out to be right; I’ll have to give it a try though. With Japanese books, I have the memoirs of a geisha and another autobiography of a geisha and ikigai. Murakami’s works have been complimented a lot so I’m contemplating if I should read that or not… maybe once I’m done with this book.

I tried reading Brida and Valkyrie by Paulo coelho but I was too young and didn’t understand it 😮‍💨

I do annotate books! It’s kinda a necessity atp being a uni student; but otherwise I annotate books as well cause life lessons to use later amirite?

I have a bleach Omnibus, a black edition of death note but otherwise I read manga online cause it’s easier in a way but for book books, I prefer the physical copy when I use travel or something along with music playing. Music makes the experience of reading good and even when I’m working or writing something. Most of the recs I get are from friends and family or something I pick up when I’m out shopping for books. I’ve heard of Lovecraft’s books but I’ve never had the chance of reading them… I read mostly non fiction works but I do enjoy a good horror.

Funny thing, I started getting into Percy Jackson in eighth grade cause my peers were reading it but in five pages of lightening thief I just stopped reading for some reason? But. I managed to finish twilight in two days and proceeded to buy the entire collection. Then I sold it off cause I realized I was being cringe and it was a phase (I’m so embarrassed of even telling this story 😭) and then I read Harry Potter as well… managed to finish the goblet of fire and I had other books in the series as well like the order of the phoenix but I decided to give those away and finally found my place in mangas and anime and works of non fiction… the only fiction I read recently was Verity by colleen Hoover ; and that inspired me to write ruined Rome (which is currently on hold and will continue once I edit the new changes into it)

As for chainsawman , that manga provided me comfort in a way cause i had to travel at that time since a member of my family had passed away. And while I was at the funeral, I wasn’t in a good shape cause we were pretty close so I decided to read chainsawman and the story of Pochita and Denji gave me an odd sense of comfort I would say? Cause it’s like ‘I’ll always be a part of you.’

Switching onto the lighter side of things, people are going crazy over Makima and I’m just waiting for mappa to animate that part 😶‍🌫️

I’m doing good bb <3 worked out this morning, got through two bottles of water, had brekky and my roommate is planning to cut my hair this week and I’m also working on an art of me and Aiku (yes I am that obsessed, but hey selfship is the best ship) uni goes on; and I’m doing work in advance so that I can relax later (I’m so sleepy but caffeine isn’t good for my system as much so I stick to just milk), writing a lot more and studying as well. Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs. Organized by which ones (in each category) I’m enjoying most.

Ongoing Series - Thai

Laws of Attraction (Sat iQIYI) 4 of 8 - Omg the way the bodyguard (handler?) looks at the rich kid. Gah. I see why @heretherebedork loves these 2. But I really hate him (not the handler, the kid). Fun fight scene. I love lawyer babygirl SO MUCH. HE WILL BE MY 2023 FAV CHARACTER. I’M CALLING IT. This ep, Srs? You’re killing me. Suits! Pussycat bows! And then... The Public Claiming!!!!! One of my favorite tropes! And openly flirting? Boys. I’m getting spoiled. Wait… is that…? NO SINGING. Ah well, Thai BL giveth and Thai BL taketh away.

Hidden Agenda that isn’t hidden (Sun GMMTV YouTube) ep 4 of 10 - I like the script for this. It feels like the conversations they have are very honest to a uni experience. It’s comfortable and breezy. I did not expect the kiss. Bit early in the arc. There is either going to be a lot of backend drama, or a long domestic honeymoon period. (Bet you can guess which one I vote for.)

Low Frequency (Sat iQIYI) ep 5 of 8 - It’s moving along in a Ghost Host kinda way (minus the killer chemistry). I’m not mad about it, I don’t think I'll remember it tho.

Be Mine Super Star (Mon Viki) ep 5 of 12 - My ambivalent relationship with this drama continues. Cohabitation trope. Punn is basically a huge puppy trying to spoil/cuddle/fuck his pretty kitty prince. It is what it is. Meanwhile, I just want more of Big Daddy & the Hot Doc. (Also the name of my burlesque show.) Why does Kevin have more chemistry with Ashi in a 1 min long scene than Punn has had… ever? Is this nascent bad boy effect or nascent 2nd lead syndrome I’m feeling? (Meanwhile Ben! Hi! Long time no see!)

Wedding Plan (Weds YT & iQIYI) ep 3 of 7 - I have decided that Lom’s theme song is BigBang’s Monster. Listen. You’ll see what I mean. Also BigBang = also very problematic but banging. What I’m saying is, I wanna punch Lom so bad, I went slightly bonkers. Water sports are addressed. A trash watch is happening!

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Jun & Jun (Korea Thurs Viki) 3 of 8 - How DARE they make me love this show so much? I feel personally attacked. The smell thing! Gah. The way they automatically go informal in private. The flirting. The language. The suits, the EVERYTHING. It’s embarrassing how much I rewatch the final bits of each ep.

Stay By My Side (Taiwan Fri Gaga) 6 of 10 eps - I adore this ridiculous show. (I just realized that the actor playing Jiang Chi played Ray’s evil 2-timing bf in About Youth). Baby boy is quite clueless. Sweet dreams tho. I love them both so much. The washing his jersey scene was so fucking cute. Couple’s numbers, couple’s keychains, bridal towel, kisses. Thank you Taiwan for NOT activating blushing maiden. However, confident gay/confused bisexual is a go. And we got us some justifiable angst. Sigh. I’m so happy.

Sing My Crush AKA Follow The Wind (Korea Weds iQIYI) 1-2 of 8 eps - supposed to have released in the first half of 2022 this is a adaption of Myung’s webtoon, from the director of My Sweet Dear, and Love Tractor’s production house, basically Korea does About Youth. It’s sweet (the singing bits are easy to skip) and very much a story of young first love but less stiff than KBL’s usual high school fare (kinda Taiwan feeling). I like it but that very imprecision in production makes me concerned for an HEA, especially with such a low MDL rating.

Tokyo in April is... AKA Shigatsu no Tokyo wa (Japan Fri Gaga) ep 8fin - Rough final episode, but it does end happily. Fortunately, I had some warning for my personal triggers, but this is Japan and they did go dark. Full review below.

Minato's Laundromat Season 2 AKA Minato Shouji Coin Laundry Season 2 (Japan Thu Gaga) 5 of 12 eps - Shin is so cute and proud and boldly out. I love him. Movement in the relationship with both couples, even if it’s movement into arguments and misunderstanding. I suppose we got 12 eps they need to do... something.

Stay Still (Hong Kong Tues YouTube) 1 of 5 eps - It’s confusing. And… not good? Some flashbacks some present day?

Review: Tokyo in April is... AKA Shigatsu no Tokyo wa

I had to chew on this for a while but here’s where I ended up.

Two young men with a shared tragic past reunite and fall in love all over again, but the past will not stop hunting them. Based on a manga, this office set reunion romance is GREAT… damn it. It’s Japan in full on soft focus which means it gets emo, abusive, and chewy. These two characters are giving parts of their souls away in a desperate attempt to shape themselves to the expectations they have of each other.

Japan gave us the Bed Friends that Thailand could never even imagine. But here’s the thing: I don’t enjoy my BL this heavy and cutting. I know that for The 8th Sense crowd this is peak BL and I can’t argue with the fact that the romantic devotion, domesticity, script, and acting IS all on point. It’s just not my personal preference for that point to be so damn sharp. I appreciate that this being 2023 I have the luxury of consistent quality (especially from Japan) and thus the ability to say…

I acknowledge that this SHOULD get a 9/10 but I can’t emotionally go higher than 8/10

RECOMMENDED BUT KNOW WHAT KIND OF BL THIS IS AND TRIGGER WARNINGS LIKE CRAZY

Japan = sticking to its lanes like their BL is on rails.

I mean if Korea remakes it, we lose all the sexy and then... would we have a story at all? No we would not. Not even for six short eps. It’d be like one of those mesh shopping bags.

Casual Sunday Diary 24/3

It's been about a month since I started uni. It was good for the first week, then after that, the work started to ramp up. I submitted 2 assignments last week, with another due next Sunday, and it's a 1200 word essay. Aye aye aye, I don't know if I can keep this up.

On another note, now that I have a free day in my schedule, I can use it to keep up with my hobbies like painting, drawing, cooking, and my new vlog youtube channel which I started just for fun! I don't know if it'll go anywhere, but I do love to make videos nevertheless. This free time in my schedule also means I can hang out with friends and not neglect this blog lolol.

Today, I just went to a restaurant for lunch. It's called Tokyo Table, and my family's been there before many times. I had their kimchi tonkatsu, which was this massive cutlet on a bed of kimchi and bean sprouts, served with yummy steamed rice. I always prefer short-grain rice to long-grain rice, which is what we usually have - it's somehow tastier and has a nice texture and bite to it without being dry. However, the cutlet was unfortunately so soaked in kimchi sauce that it was no longer crispy, and instead it was soggy....I also had tea with it. It was provided free of charge, and I think it was genmaicha, which I think is best paired with heavy savoury food.

When I got home, I spent a few hours researching for my 1200 word essay. In high school, we never really read peer-reviewed papers for assignments. We would just memorise stuff in the textbooks for our SACs. This is quite a big change for me but I hope it'll get easier over time. Anyway, I'll meet a friend soon for some coffee and a catch-up. It'll be a nice change of pace.

🩰the move draken's most proud of: for this one i had an internal debate but! i think if draken were to start pole the moves which are big and flashy, so dead lifts or something like a iorn x, would be less challenging to him since he already has a lot of upper body strength & core. so when he got remi bridge* he was so surprised with how much more flexible he'd gotten inadvertently through practice, and how despite having an easy start with some moves given his strength- his balance & technique had really improved. how he can now so easily lift his legs into this knot like formation also the kinda pole cred that comes with doing remi bridge because it hurts!! also also it's a v good move to show off well developed shoulder muscles & abs in lmao

🩰the move draken's most impressed by: okay okay so, draken is a protective soul, the moment he sees you lift into an invert** his heart is already racing away from him in concern as you seeming float upside down- no matter how many times he's seen it before, his heart will always saw in wounder and concern much like at anything you do. as you shift and adjust your leg, bringing it up to the pole he's sure that if your hands were to even shift on the pole he'd have a heart attack. it's as you hook your outside leg on that he slowly starts to relax, releasing an intentionally held breath as he sees your leg lock securely around the pole- back arching and extending to for a gentle curve. his moment of brief respite & appreciation is short lived as, having found your if not comfy then secure grip, you lift your hands away back arching into a gemini***

on a slightly more sexie note, there's another difference with gemini, how the familiar plush of your thigh is distorted by the grip on the pole, now instead of moving wrapped up in his large hands, it’s pushed against by the pole, holding you so delicately in the air. it’s fun when the class ends too! as not only is gemini a beautiful move, but (especially when learning) it has a tendency to leave a small line of bruises along the inside of your thigh- somewhere draken is determined to keep his monopoly over

*remi bridge! draken doesn't have this good of lower back flexibility but don't tell him i said that- it hurts your feet like hell, next to the right/bellow is **an invert! this is how you get upside down lol! (you don't hold that position that's it's own move called a chopper! but it's a position you should move through to do a clean basic invert)

and lastly! *** gemini, i'm not sure how clear the transition is from the images but you can quite naturally move from an invert or held chopper to a gemini, in the case of the above photo you do so by hooking your left knee & allowing your body to naturally tip backwards (i'll find a gif if that is you want that'll be much easier to explain)
