Given the obvious overlap between the Gorcharov and Pathologic fandoms, I’m really curious what role comes to mind first when folks think of Robert de Niro. 

Do you initially picture him as the titular Gorcharov in “Gorcharov” (1973)? 

Or do you think of him first as Daniil Dankovsky in “Novecento” (1976)?

One funny detail from Gorcharov that I haven't seen anyone talk about is that Sofia says she doesn't smoke at the dinner party but she still takes the cigarette that Katya offers it to her later in that same scene

You seem to happen to know what the current craze is about. When I googled it, all I found was a long dead Russian guy named Ivan.

Basically Tumblr has collectively made up a film and is having fun with 'analysing' it and having discourse about it.

It started with a bad typo on a knock-off ''''merch'''' for Scorsese's film Gomorrah, there spelled 'Gorchanov' and then people just ran with it. Like what, are you saying you HAVEN'T seen cult classic Gorchanov??? Pahh. So uncultured!

And then it all just evolved from there.

The marvel films, they are all marked by the hollowness of the studio. It's what Marty and I were trying to get away from in the 70s, these hulking behemoths who just made film after film, chewing up actors, directors, what have you. I feel very bad for the people making these films now because the films they make...they are not theirs, in any substantial way. Gorcharov, that's my film, that's Marty's film, that's the film of Al and Robert and Cindy and all the other actors there. It was a collaborative process, which let humanity shine through.
